Joan And The Salic Law
Around January 6th, 1412, a girl named Joan was born in a small peasant village. Although her family
lived a peasant life they lived comfortably until one day, at the age of 13, Joan started hearing voices
in her head that was said to be from saints . The saints urged her to go to the dauphin (the oldest son of
the king) and ask permission to lead the fight to go save France from the English that had been
fighting for around 60 years before her birth. This war is known as the hundred year war. This war
was started because Charles IV of France died without any children so Charles the 8th thought he
should be king but Henry the 6th thought he should be the king because of the Salic law. Joan
attempted to persuade the dauphin multiple times to

Hurricane Katrina A Natural Disaster
Hurricane Katrina was one of the worst natural disasters in US history, the perfect storm in one of the
most impoverished parts of the US. The damage from the storm, flooding and the resulting loss of life
and property was astounding. However, I lack the words to describe the economic impacts of such a
disaster to the peoples of the Gulf Coast. As with all major catastrophic events, even with all the
planning in the world it comes down to people helping people to survive. FEMA, the local and State
Government, Emergency response/first responders, National Guard, and Private Corporate Assistance
did what they could to mitigate the damage, however, the planning for such an event was (in
hindsight) far too little and made the emergency even more dire. I see the responsibility for
preparation for future hurricane/natural disasters can be divided into at least 4 parts: The Federal
Government, State/Local officials, private corporations/industries, and personal responsibilities.
Federal Government Continued training and emergency planning at various Federal agencies.
Unfortunately, in the case of chaotic natural disasters, Human element (looters, gangs, violence) prior
to Katrina may not have been fully part of the emergency response scenarios played out in simulations
at a federal/private think tank. This enigma may never be solved as regional behavior is almost
impossible to predict without local experts in sociological phycology and behavioral science.

The Blithedale Romance Analysis
Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Blithedale Romance (1852) illustrates the Nineteenth Century s industrial
revolution that spurred social discourse and movements to erect utopian societies. The book chronicles
a Mr. Cloverdale, who, with cynicism towards the utopian setting, sets off alongside a brotherhood to
become encapsulated by transcendentalist notions. This work s inception was made possible by
Hawthorne s partaking the Brook farm project of the 1840s. Hawthorne s objective during this
experiment was to concentrate on his writings in a comfortable environment devoid of distractions and
industrial life but Brook farm taxed him physically with manual labor so he vacated. Hawthorne
confirmed that, The Blithedale Romance in 1852, adhered to the ... Show more content on

The connotations of a paradise, or a utopia, are that of a flawless society where its patrons do not
pursue nor indulge in the near inherit need for materialistic conquests; however, such is not possible as
demonstrated by real life occurrences and the certainty of human expansion. America has pushed past
its parameters, seeking more territory within its frontiers as the demand for land rises with its
population; it s because of the exponential growth of mankind that utopias cannot be sought. Varieties
of different dispositions cannot be merged, and because of such shows the flaw that human nature has
in its design: diversity. Yet America embraces its diversity and advertises itself as a country accepting
of all different backgrounds so one can postulate that maybe America is a

Netflix Case Analysis
Competition and Strategy
January 31, 2006
This case represents an analysis of the DVD rental business and specifically how Netflix positioned
itself in the market and the direction of the industry as a whole. Several tools were utilized to help
analyze Netflix. Case facts were considered in addition to possible future strategy in relation to market
position.
Introduction
Netflix was founded in 1997 by Reed Hastings who is the current CEO of the company. Mr. Hastings
has experience with the birthing of a startup company in his venture with Pure Software, which he
founded in 1991. Mr. Hastings background in the software industry would prove to be an asset for his

Wal Mart developed a rental program almost identical to that of Netflix, through walmart.com. Even
the envelopes and movie selections were similar to Netflix s. However, it was estimated to only
accumulate 1/5 the number of subscribers as Netflix by the end of the first year. In addition, it only
had 7 distribution centers compared to Netflix s 15. Wal Mart did plan to open more centers at other
facilities in the future. Wal Mart was still debugging its online software, where Netflix had already
spent years debugging its software.

mom and pop video stores and then video chains throughout the Southeast. It continued expanding
through this aggressive approach until it reached 1678 stores in 42 states and five Canadian provinces.
It did not have an online program, but it was not expected to be far away.

Technology Negative Essay
Defined as the purposeful application of information in the design, production, and utilization of
goods and services, and in the organization of human activities , technology has many applications in
today s world (WebFinance, Inc.). Whether the newest cellular device, video gaming console or tablet,
or even some new vaccine or cure for a disease, technology is meant to make humans lives easier,
faster, less stressful, more enjoyable and ultimately better, and make society a better place.
Technology grows with humans and their needs and wants. When humans needed some sort of way to
protect themselves, gather resources more easily, and farm, humans developed stone tools and
weapons to use. Windmills, steam engines, use of petroleum, and the harnessing of electricity made
life easier, faster and less stressful whether that energy is used for textiles, metallurgy, agriculture, or
transport, the harnessing of wind, steam, petroleum and electricity truly helped society grow and the
individual prosper. Later, militaries had better weapons to fight with and technology to use (radar,
sonar) to use against their opponents, and hospitals had pharmaceuticals, anesthetics, antiseptics, and
better examination techniques (X Rays, radiation therapy, blood transfusions). While it can be useful,
many question the usefulness and application of technology that seemingly does not help society and
the individual and instead are a detriment. After World War II, some questioned the

Physics Of Running
The Physics Of Running
Mokhtar Miguil 10A
Running is a sport that is very much connected to physics. Scientists have done many significant
research in the past on the physics of running, and I will try to discuss some of the main aspects of it
here.
There are are many forces acting upon a runner when he/she is pushing off the ground with one foot.
The force Fx is the horizontal force due to the contact between the runner s foot and the ground, and
the force Fy is the vertical force due to the contact between the runner s foot and the ground. The force
Fg is the force due to gravity which pulls down on the runner. This force acts through the center of
mass of the runner, represented by the purple dot. During a run the force Fy is greater than Fg in order
to lift the runner off the ground as he runs.
An Olympic sprinter can push off the ground with a total peak force of more than 1000 pounds (with a
time averaged Fx equal to about 200 pounds, which is less than the peak Fx). In contrast, the average
person can apply 500 600 pounds of total peak force. Reference:

The physics in running is very interesting to high level athletes who strive to optimise their everyday
performance because If they know and fully understand the forces acting upon them while they are
running it will help them to improve their running. Utilising a expert coaching and state of the art
training facilities runners spend most of their careers trying to improve their technique and speed to do
this you must first understand the science behind sport. For most people, the physics behind running is
hardly given a second thought. But when medals, such as Olympic medals, are on the line then such
thoughts become commonplace and turn into active areas of

The Eurozone is the worlds most sophisticated currency Union and has since its foundation helped to
spur the economic Development of European Countries. This essay will firstly address the question to
which extend Germany has benefitted from its membership since it joined. Furthermore, the currency
union will be critically examined to figure out in what way it does fulfil the requirements of an
Optimum currency area. Finally, policy lessons learned from Germany in the OCA will be set out.

With smaller and less productive countries in the Eurozone losing its macroeconomic sovereignty, the
competitiveness of Eurozone countries is now determined by its productivity of labour and capital.
Germanys profits from its high productivity and the non existence of macroeconomic policies that
could be implemented by other European countries to counteract against Germany. With a common
currency in the eurozone, the possibility for south European countries to depreciate their currencies in
order to boost their exports becomes obsolete. On top of that, the lower productivity relative to wages
becomes more obvious in single currency area where prices are then dictated by the amount of labour
costs. [Zitat jep germany] At the same time, Germany benefits through the non existent risks in
exchange rates in the eurozone. The lack of a variability in exchange rates creates more certainty in
transacting products within Europe. This leads to the absence of exchange rate losses with various
trade partners within the Eurozone, as Table 2 shows that Germany is dependent on a variety of
partners from within the Eurozone. (In a nutshell, the common currency and the one fits all

of the leading companies in the industry of energy and sports drinks in Great Britain and Ireland
(Suntorybeverageandfood europe.com, n.d.). Originally named Glucozade, Lucozade was created in

Henry Viii s The Mary Rose
Henry VIII s flagship the Mary Rose was a four masted carrack built in Portsmouth by a team of
skilled shipwrights, which would have been led by a master shipwright, in 1510 11. It is an important
example in the history of the transition in England from clinker (edge joined planks) to carvel (frame
orientated) shipbuilding style, a progression with interesting implications on the design process. At the
same time, the growing artillery requirements required innovations in gun port design and hull
reinforcement. When Henry VIII became King in 1509, he had few warships. It was usual to
repurpose merchant vessels by adding guns in case of war, but as Scotland and France were both
threatening war it was felt necessary to be better prepared.

connect with how humans interact with each other. Especially how they treat each other after
problematic issues, like when their goodness is at stake impacts human behavior. Thus, leading to the
expression throwing someone under the bus and causing distress to both parties of this situation. The
first example is a classic Christmas film, Elf. The second example is an episode from a popular TV
show, Gossip Girl, based on a novel series by Cecily von Ziegesar. During these difficult

1. Elf
In the Christmas film, Elf, Buddy the elf is suffers from being throw under the bus by his biological
father, Walter. Throughout the film, Walter s goodness was damaged by his son because he was an elf.
Buddy has lived his entire life in the North Pole as a human sized elf, technically a human who thinks
he is an elf. The first time Walter and Buddy met was in his office when Buddy wandered around the
city to find his father. The first jab that Walter initiated towards Buddy was, Who sent this Christmas
gram? when Buddy stated, It s me your son, Susan Wells had me, and...and she didn t tell you, and and
and but now I m here. It s me, Buddy (Favreau, 2003). After Buddy told him he was his son, he
questioned Buddy as if he was just as irrelevant as a Christmas gram by the condescending tone of his
voice. During this scene, Buddy has been thrown under the bus because he was being serious and
genuine in telling his biological father that he was his son and his father completely disregards him
and calls him out for being a foolish Christmas gram. The reference of comparing to Buddy to the
Christmas gram was taken in a negative way because Walter was stating how Buddy was a joke. This
situation damages Walter s goodness of normalcy and having an ordinary life with a typical family
because Buddy enters his life as his son with the unusual fact that he is an elf in different attire and

The Pros And Cons Of The Gun Control Movement
In the words of Dr. Suzanna Gratia Hupp ¨ A politician stands on the Second Amendment tells you
how he or she views you as an individual... as a trustworthy and productive citizen, or as part of an
unruly crowd that needs to be lorded over, controlled, supervised, and taken care of¨. Both the pro gun
and anti gun movements raise some persuasive and plausible points about their sides. The anti gun
movement has a history of an oppressive, racist and totalitarian way of trying to control people s right
to bear arms which in no way prevented gun violence. The gun control movement as a whole doesn t
care about protecting citizens but it instead wants to give the federal government more control over its
citizens.
The earliest forms of gun control in America had barred the sale of guns to Indians, African
Americans, Catholic, and indentured servants. Now the anti gun movement uses these early forms of
gun control to justify their actions against guns, but the early forms of gun control had targeted groups
and ethnic minorities of people who being oppressed because they didn t want those groups to rise up
against their racist and oppressive system. Spitzer, Robert J. Five Myths about Gun Control. The
Washington Post, WP Company, 21 Dec. 2012. Even after the colonial period in America gun control
such as the black codes were used to suppress African Americans right to bear arms and it also left
them defenseless to the terror that was being imposed on them by white supremacist groups and
corrupt local governments.
The common argument that the anti gun movement push is that high caliber weapons mainly so called
¨assault rifles¨ cause mass destruction and that they kill thousands of people a year. They also claim
that there is no use for the weapons and they wish to impose a nationwide ban on ¨assault rifles¨. Now
to the average American the term ¨assault rifle¨ may sound intimidating but anti gun politicians use
this term to scare Americans into thinking that a regular semi automatic rifle is an fully automatic
machine which it is not. The most common rifle that the movement goes after is the ar 15 which is a
semi automatic rifle. Now according to FBI crime statistics rifles accounted for 285 of murders in

people to excel in their respective tasks. Economic and politic have changed how each country

Advertising Affects A Wide Variety
Advertising is a concept all Americans have been exposed to in their lives. It is a normal component of
life that affects Americans more than they are led to believe. Advertising is constantly evolving.
Advertising has been forced to change to meet up with the changing of times. The price spent on
advertising raises at a rapid rate each and every year. Moreover, the every increasing money spent on
advertising shows that it is effective on reaching and influencing the American consumer.
Advertising affects a wide variety and a large amount of people. According to The Statistics Portal,
The United States is, by far, the largest advertising market in the world. In 2015, more than 180 billion
U.S. dollars were spent in advertising in the United States. This figure is more than double the amount
spent in advertising in China, the second largest ad market in the world. From this, it is effortless to
see that American s are highly exposed to advertisements.
According to the International Advertising Association, Advertising can encourage companies to
compete and provide new products. This encourages more consumers to buy because these products
meet the needs and wants of more consumers. Thus, the economy is positively affected. In addition,
advertising can help create more jobs. As the demand for products and services goes up because of
advertising, more people are needed to manufacture, supply, ship and test those products and services.
Thus, more jobs are created. It has

Exploring Revelation Essay
Exploring Revelation
What is revelation? There are many different uses of the word revelation. It can be the speech act of
making something evident, an enlightening or astonishing disclosure or a communication of
knowledge to man by a divine or supernatural agency.
The last book of the New Testament contains visionary descriptions of heaven and of conflicts
between good and evil and of the end of the world. The author of this book tells us his name is John.
However, the John of Revelation does not claim to be a disciple or to have known Jesus. Scholars
have said that John of Revelation was a significant figure in the early church in the Roman province of
Asia Minor. The Book of Revelation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

faithfulness will be rewarded to Christians and justice will be done. Although most people believe that

Revelation is also known as The Revelation of John and St. Johns Apocalypse.
The Book of Revelation is the primary source of inspiration of Christian prophecy believers. The last
book and only apocalypse in the New Testament, it was likely written in the last decade of the first
century, during a period of great turmoil after the destruction of the second Jewish Temple by the
Romans in 70 A.D. Biblical scholars are sceptical of the historical claim that the Apostle John was its
author. Millions of Christians have taken the events so vividly described in Revelation as a blueprint
for what will happen in the last days as God brings an end to this world. But beyond that, many ideas
and symbols from Revelation have found a place in the wider culture, including: the Mark of the
Beast, represented by the number 666; the seven seals; the four horsemen of the Apocalypse; the

This experiment was designed to examine the efficacy of naturally occurring antimicrobials against
common bacteria located in a normal human microbiome. Three antimicrobials, Melaleuca alternifolia
(tea tree) oil, commercial honey, and Capsicum annuum (red chili pepper), were tested on the gram
negative Escherichia coli and the gram positive Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria. Quantitative
data was taken using the filter paper disk method to determine the zones of inhibition produced by the
three antimicrobials. The results collected showed that Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) oil is an
effective broad spectrum antimicrobial, while honey produced partial inhibition with an outer ring of
stimulation signifying that the honey is merely bacteriostatic for a short period of time before growth
reoccurs. The Capsicum annuum (red chili pepper) stimulated bacterial growth indicating possible
contamination or lack of antimicrobial properties.

Creating Up The Equation Of The American Dream
Homeownership is one of the many aspects that make up the equation of the American dream. Buying
a home for the first time brings pride of success and independency from the person who has this
opportunity. This American dream is something that parents dream for their children from the time
that the child is conceived. Being able to buy a home for the first time is an accomplishment and a
dream of a lifetime. However, this dream isn t cheap and cannot happen in a short amount of time.
When a person buys a house there is a lot that goes into it such as knowing about your credit, your
budget, and the type of home that you would like to purchase.
Even though buying a home has a lot of steps, it can be a smooth sailing ride because everything is
lined up and ready to process being able to buy the home. There s other cases where in order to get the
home, there are obstacles ahead that the person has to deal with. Sometimes there are even times when
everything has gone great and then the person gets hit with situations that leave them with a decision
to downsize ending up putting their house up for foreclosure. Foreclosure is when a homeowner s
rights to a property are forfeited because of failure to pay the mortgage. When the owner can t pay off
the debt then the house becomes the property of the lending institution.
There are 4 steps that happen before the bank ends up taking the house from the homeowner. These
steps give the owner time to try and get the money that they still

Allusions In The Bible
In today s world it is difficult to read any piece of literature that has not been at least minorly impacted
by a piece of literature that has come before it. In fact, many stories published today incorporate
elements of past works or reference them directly in a literary device known as allusion. One of the
most commonly alluded to literary works is the Christian Bible, one of the oldest books to be
published in the common era. Because the Bible is often alluded to in other literary works, it has been
analyzed by countless scholars in many different ways. The most important way, that is, the way in
which Norman W. Jones analyzes the Bible is in a literary manner. Because of this, this review will
focus on Jones s literary connections and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He asserts that the Bible is a literary work that is meant to be interacted with in a different way than
most other books, and that that is what leads to the Bible having so many different ways of being
interpreted and understood in various works. He uses many examples of Shakespeare to display his
ideas about reception, explaining the historical differences and why biblical allusions and
interpretations in Shakespeare s time, and the time of John Milton and his classic Paradise Lost, would
have been received differently from how they are received now. He is constantly reminding the reader
of the differences between the past and the present in order to show how reception may have been
different. His assertion that the Bible is so ingrained in our culture and that we do not notice allusions
because of this was one that made the lack of biblical literacy understandable. The idea of the Messiah
coming to die on the cross and sacrificing himself for all of humanity is one that many people are
brought up with in the present day. Because of this, the idea of a character sacrificing themself for the
greater good or to protect their friends is not a novel idea to us in the present. In fact, it may even be
considered an overused trope or plot device. It is almost cliched and not original in any way. We are so
desensitized to this basic Bible inspired plot that we do not even realize that that is where it has come
from. While I did agree with Jones s argument about this, I also felt that when a book uses the trope in
the right way, like in Harry Potter where Harry sacrifices himself not just for his friends, but for the
safety of the entire wizarding world and muggle world s combined, the biblical allusion becomes

Criminal Activity Vs Terrorist Activity
Criminal activity and terrorist activity have a relationship that is closely related, with only minor
differences separating the two. Terrorist activity are criminal acts that are motivated by a higher cause

about criminal activity. Serial killers often plan out their acts just as much as terrorist organizations,
however the same cannot be said for certain crimes like random assaults. (Newman Clarke, 2008) The
relationship between crime and terrorism is brought closer when terrorist organizations use common
crime to fund their attacks. For example, a terrorist organization may resort to stealing chemical

The Abols Of Symbolism In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The...
In life, people see different meanings to the same events based on their perspective. In the same way,
authors place symbols in a book to intensify the characters emotions and further the plot. Nathaniel
Hawthorne uses symbols in The Scarlet Letter such as the color red, sunshine, and various characters,
such as Chillingworth, Hester, and Pearl. Red is a color that can represent passion, sensitivity, or
power. Throughout the novel, the color red represents all of these descriptions. Hawthorne creates red
objects such as the rosebush, the letter A, and a meteor. The rosebush, as described by the author,
...symbolizes some sweet moral blossom, that may be found along the track, or relieve the darkening
close of a tale of human frailty and sorrow, (Hawthorne 34). Being at the door of a dark prison, the
rosebush stands in contrast to the prison, a place of suffering and shame, and instead gives joy to all
who pass by. This symbol foreshadows Hester s future lifestyle and helps develop her character
throughout the story.
A similar theme of red is shown in the scarlet letter. The Puritans shame Hester by forcing her to wear
it, symbolizing her sin; however, she overcomes this shame by helping the needy. The author
describes the scarlet letter, in fine red cloth, surrounded with an elaborate embroidery and fantastic
flourishes of gold thread, appeared the letter A, (Hawthorne 37). The letter is significant because while
the Puritans wanted her to feel ashamed by the letter,

The Role Of Commercial Bank Operations Play Role On...
Introduction
Commercial Bank operations play crucial role in monetary policy transmission mechanism. This has
been studied extensively in the theoretical and empirical level. After the ground breaking research
study of Kashyap and Stein (2000), few research have conduct to explore diversity in bank lending
process as responses to monetary policy changes . However these empirical works are purely related
to credit channel that studies how the bank lending behavior changes with the monetary policy. Since
the outburst of the financial crisis in 2007, policy debates have focused on how to restore commercial
banks operations. In particular, governments of developed countries had conducted an extraordinary
monetary easing and capital injections into the banking system. Those policy initiatives were
primarily focused at recovering the functioning of the financial system and restoring commercial
banks lending. Last financial crisis episode shows inherent problem of asymmetric information faced
by the bank and how banks were penalized on their reaction to monetary policy. Fundamentally,
change in interest rates effect individual banks in different degree and creates distributional effects
across banking industry. The crisis demands analysis of research question on the risk taking channel of
monetary policy.

The Second Treatise Of Government
In the Second Treatise of Government, Locke explains human beings right of private property as a
natural, enforceable right that men are granted with in the state of Nature as part of his larger
justification of the replacement of the state of Nature by civil governments. The basis of Locke s
interpretation of such right comes from God s ownership of what God creates, including both human
beings and worldly resources. While human beings ownerships of their bodies are granted directly
through God, Locke laid out 3 main conditions to be sufficed in order to justify private appropriations
of worldly resources. This paper will examine Locke s premises regarding the state of Nature and his
explanations of these conditions, compare them with Rousseau s version of requirements for private
holdings in The Social Contract, and at the same time discuss whether each condition for private
appropriation is sufficient in his effort of justifying unlimited properties.
To begin with, Locke believes that at the state of nature, human beings are given the right of
properties, and private appropriations can occur as long as they fulfill three main criteria. Such
assumption allows Locke to discuss private properties without the interference of other parties,
including civil governments. According to Locke, human beings and their private properties are
protected by nature as God s will to expect human beings to thrive and to develop, also driven by
human beings natural rights of living and

The Importance Of Trust In Education
The moment a child is born into the world, the child automatically forms a bond with the mother. This
bond is not based on any prior understanding between mother and child but an innate, unquantifiable
feeling that exist without spoken words. This is a form of trust. The child solely depends and believes
that the mother will always be there to cater to any needs and protect them at all cost. Although this is
trust in its simplest form, trust can have a different concept to various individuals. Trust defined by
most dictionaries would be to; have faith in, have confidence in, depend upon, have belief in, et cetera.
Therefore, I believe trust to be the absolute certainty in someone or something, to carry out their task
or duty as their ability dictates. Trust exists in every work of life and understanding the relationship
helps to better our everyday progress.
As a student, the main objective of my education is to gain the required skills needed to be able to
properly take my place in the society and contribute to its progress. Education comes in all forms and
from the different individuals, we encounter in our lives. In school, studious students sit in the
classroom to be taught the required knowledge to succeed. This knowledge is imparted by qualified
teachers. Therefore, they pay rapt attention to what is being taught because they trust that the
information being given to them, must be accurate. These students trust their teacher to be right.
Therefore, students need not

The book details the rise of Blackwater and the growth of security contracting, especially the role it
has played in the Iraq war and the War on Terrorism, which Scahill tries to expose the conduct of
Blackwater. With the introduction of the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the United States government
increased its support on using contractors to assist the military. While other PMCs are used by the
government, Blackwater was the company that benefited the most, which has now secured $1 billion

In the book, Scahill argues that the company s rise is a consequence of the demobilization of the US

how Blackwater serves in Iraq and Afghanistan, protecting top authority figures and enjoying

provided significant assistance in that setting. Scahill makes several key arguments in his book. He

do. Adding on to that, she feels every one of the parents should get involved to prevent the explosion.
Following that, Abana stayed true to her word and put the news of the military attempting to blow up
the barrier on social media. In the text, Abana writes, Everyone! Emergency! They are blowing up the
dome. I have solid proof that they are blowing up the dome. All families immediately call your
senators and congressmen and the media (Grant 450). This implies that she feels she needs to get all

  • 2. Joan And The Salic Law Around January 6th, 1412, a girl named Joan was born in a small peasant village. Although her family lived a peasant life they lived comfortably until one day, at the age of 13, Joan started hearing voices in her head that was said to be from saints . The saints urged her to go to the dauphin (the oldest son of the king) and ask permission to lead the fight to go save France from the English that had been fighting for around 60 years before her birth. This war is known as the hundred year war. This war was started because Charles IV of France died without any children so Charles the 8th thought he should be king but Henry the 6th thought he should be the king because of the Salic law. Joan attempted to persuade the dauphin multiple times to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Hurricane Katrina A Natural Disaster Hurricane Katrina was one of the worst natural disasters in US history, the perfect storm in one of the most impoverished parts of the US. The damage from the storm, flooding and the resulting loss of life and property was astounding. However, I lack the words to describe the economic impacts of such a disaster to the peoples of the Gulf Coast. As with all major catastrophic events, even with all the planning in the world it comes down to people helping people to survive. FEMA, the local and State Government, Emergency response/first responders, National Guard, and Private Corporate Assistance did what they could to mitigate the damage, however, the planning for such an event was (in hindsight) far too little and made the emergency even more dire. I see the responsibility for preparation for future hurricane/natural disasters can be divided into at least 4 parts: The Federal Government, State/Local officials, private corporations/industries, and personal responsibilities. Federal Government Continued training and emergency planning at various Federal agencies. Unfortunately, in the case of chaotic natural disasters, Human element (looters, gangs, violence) prior to Katrina may not have been fully part of the emergency response scenarios played out in simulations at a federal/private think tank. This enigma may never be solved as regional behavior is almost impossible to predict without local experts in sociological phycology and behavioral science. However, ... • 4. The Blithedale Romance Analysis Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Blithedale Romance (1852) illustrates the Nineteenth Century s industrial revolution that spurred social discourse and movements to erect utopian societies. The book chronicles a Mr. Cloverdale, who, with cynicism towards the utopian setting, sets off alongside a brotherhood to become encapsulated by transcendentalist notions. This work s inception was made possible by Hawthorne s partaking the Brook farm project of the 1840s. Hawthorne s objective during this experiment was to concentrate on his writings in a comfortable environment devoid of distractions and industrial life but Brook farm taxed him physically with manual labor so he vacated. Hawthorne confirmed that, The Blithedale Romance in 1852, adhered to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The connotations of a paradise, or a utopia, are that of a flawless society where its patrons do not pursue nor indulge in the near inherit need for materialistic conquests; however, such is not possible as demonstrated by real life occurrences and the certainty of human expansion. America has pushed past its parameters, seeking more territory within its frontiers as the demand for land rises with its population; it s because of the exponential growth of mankind that utopias cannot be sought. Varieties of different dispositions cannot be merged, and because of such shows the flaw that human nature has in its design: diversity. Yet America embraces its diversity and advertises itself as a country accepting of all different backgrounds so one can postulate that maybe America is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Several tools were utilized to help analyze Netflix. Case facts were considered in addition to possible future strategy in relation to market position. Introduction Netflix was founded in 1997 by Reed Hastings who is the current CEO of the company. Wal Mart developed a rental program almost identical to that of Netflix, through walmart.com. Even the envelopes and movie selections were similar to Netflix s. • 6. Technology Negative Essay Defined as the purposeful application of information in the design, production, and utilization of goods and services, and in the organization of human activities , technology has many applications in today s world (WebFinance, Inc.). Whether the newest cellular device, video gaming console or tablet, or even some new vaccine or cure for a disease, technology is meant to make humans lives easier, faster, less stressful, more enjoyable and ultimately better, and make society a better place. Technology grows with humans and their needs and wants. When humans needed some sort of way to protect themselves, gather resources more easily, and farm, humans developed stone tools and weapons to use. Windmills, steam engines, use of petroleum, and the harnessing of electricity made life easier, faster and less stressful whether that energy is used for textiles, metallurgy, agriculture, or transport, the harnessing of wind, steam, petroleum and electricity truly helped society grow and the individual prosper. Later, militaries had better weapons to fight with and technology to use (radar, sonar) to use against their opponents, and hospitals had pharmaceuticals, anesthetics, antiseptics, and better examination techniques (X Rays, radiation therapy, blood transfusions). While it can be useful, many question the usefulness and application of technology that seemingly does not help society and the individual and instead are a detriment. After World War II, some questioned the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Physics Of Running The Physics Of Running Mokhtar Miguil 10A Running is a sport that is very much connected to physics. Scientists have done many significant research in the past on the physics of running, and I will try to discuss some of the main aspects of it here. There are are many forces acting upon a runner when he/she is pushing off the ground with one foot. The force Fx is the horizontal force due to the contact between the runner s foot and the ground, and the force Fy is the vertical force due to the contact between the runner s foot and the ground. The force Fg is the force due to gravity which pulls down on the runner. This force acts through the center of mass of the runner, represented by the purple dot. During a run the force Fy is greater than Fg in order to lift the runner off the ground as he runs. An Olympic sprinter can push off the ground with a total peak force of more than 1000 pounds (with a time averaged Fx equal to about 200 pounds, which is less than the peak Fx). In contrast, the average person can apply 500 600 pounds of total peak force. Reference: http://www.thepostgame.com/features/201107/usain bolt case study science sprinting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With smaller and less productive countries in the Eurozone losing its macroeconomic sovereignty, the competitiveness of Eurozone countries is now determined by its productivity of labour and capital. Germanys profits from its high productivity and the non existence of macroeconomic policies that could be implemented by other European countries to counteract against Germany. With a common currency in the eurozone, the possibility for south European countries to depreciate their currencies in order to boost their exports becomes obsolete. On top of that, the lower productivity relative to wages becomes more obvious in single currency area where prices are then dictated by the amount of labour costs. [Zitat jep germany] At the same time, Germany benefits through the non existent risks in exchange rates in the eurozone. The lack of a variability in exchange rates creates more certainty in transacting products within Europe. This leads to the absence of exchange rate losses with various trade partners within the Eurozone, as Table 2 shows that Germany is dependent on a variety of partners from within the Eurozone. This campaign was intended to change the perception of the fizzy drink as a cure for colds and hangovers and reposition it as an ally of busy people. The campaign included TV and radio advertisement and was mentioned frequently on Lucozade s social media pages. In some of England s top train stations, floor decals using the campaign s brand colours directed commuters in and out of the station, improving the flow of the station (Grey.com, 2016). Henry Viii s The Mary Rose Henry VIII s flagship the Mary Rose was a four masted carrack built in Portsmouth by a team of skilled shipwrights, which would have been led by a master shipwright, in 1510 11. It is an important example in the history of the transition in England from clinker (edge joined planks) to carvel (frame orientated) shipbuilding style, a progression with interesting implications on the design process. At the same time, the growing artillery requirements required innovations in gun port design and hull reinforcement. When Henry VIII became King in 1509, he had few warships. It was usual to repurpose merchant vessels by adding guns in case of war, but as Scotland and France were both threatening war it was felt necessary to be better prepared. ... They include dozens of videos and thousands of pages of investigation files, veterinary records, circus train logs, and courtroom testimony. Feld Entertainment is a privately held corporation owned by Kenny s namesake, CEO Kenneth Feld, whose family bought Ringling for more than $8 million in 1967 and folded it into an entertainment empire that includes Ringling s three year round touring circus troupes, as well as Disney On Ice, Disney Live, and Monster Jam. Throughout the film, Walter s goodness was damaged by his son because he was an elf. Buddy has lived his entire life in the North Pole as a human sized elf, technically a human who thinks he is an elf. The first time Walter and Buddy met was in his office when Buddy wandered around the city to find his father. The first jab that Walter initiated towards Buddy was, Who sent this Christmas gram? when Buddy stated, It s me your son, Susan Wells had me, and...and she didn t tell you, and and and but now I m here. It s me, Buddy (Favreau, 2003). After Buddy told him he was his son, he questioned Buddy as if he was just as irrelevant as a Christmas gram by the condescending tone of his voice. During this scene, Buddy has been thrown under the bus because he was being serious and genuine in telling his biological father that he was his son and his father completely disregards him and calls him out for being a foolish Christmas gram. The reference of comparing to Buddy to the Christmas gram was taken in a negative way because Walter was stating how Buddy was a joke. • 13. The Pros And Cons Of The Gun Control Movement In the words of Dr. Suzanna Gratia Hupp ¨ A politician stands on the Second Amendment tells you how he or she views you as an individual... as a trustworthy and productive citizen, or as part of an unruly crowd that needs to be lorded over, controlled, supervised, and taken care of¨. Both the pro gun and anti gun movements raise some persuasive and plausible points about their sides. The anti gun movement has a history of an oppressive, racist and totalitarian way of trying to control people s right to bear arms which in no way prevented gun violence. The gun control movement as a whole doesn t care about protecting citizens but it instead wants to give the federal government more control over its citizens. The earliest forms of gun control in America had barred the sale of guns to Indians, African Americans, Catholic, and indentured servants. Now the anti gun movement uses these early forms of gun control to justify their actions against guns, but the early forms of gun control had targeted groups and ethnic minorities of people who being oppressed because they didn t want those groups to rise up against their racist and oppressive system. Spitzer, Robert J. Five Myths about Gun Control. The Washington Post, WP Company, 21 Dec. 2012. Even after the colonial period in America gun control such as the black codes were used to suppress African Americans right to bear arms and it also left them defenseless to the terror that was being imposed on them by white supremacist groups and corrupt local governments. The common argument that the anti gun movement push is that high caliber weapons mainly so called ¨assault rifles¨ cause mass destruction and that they kill thousands of people a year. They also claim that there is no use for the weapons and they wish to impose a nationwide ban on ¨assault rifles¨. Now to the average American the term ¨assault rifle¨ may sound intimidating but anti gun politicians use this term to scare Americans into thinking that a regular semi automatic rifle is an fully automatic machine which it is not. The most common rifle that the movement goes after is the ar 15 which is a semi automatic rifle. Now according to FBI crime statistics rifles accounted for 285 of murders in 2013, ... In fact, many stories published today incorporate elements of past works or reference them directly in a literary device known as allusion. One of the most commonly alluded to literary works is the Christian Bible, one of the oldest books to be published in the common era. Because the Bible is often alluded to in other literary works, it has been analyzed by countless scholars in many different ways. The most important way, that is, the way in which Norman W. He asserts that the Bible is a literary work that is meant to be interacted with in a different way than most other books, and that that is what leads to the Bible having so many different ways of being interpreted and understood in various works. He uses many examples of Shakespeare to display his ideas about reception, explaining the historical differences and why biblical allusions and interpretations in Shakespeare s time, and the time of John Milton and his classic Paradise Lost, would have been received differently from how they are received now. He is constantly reminding the reader of the differences between the past and the present in order to show how reception may have been different. His assertion that the Bible is so ingrained in our culture and that we do not notice allusions because of this was one that made the lack of biblical literacy understandable. The idea of the Messiah coming to die on the cross and sacrificing himself for all of humanity is one that many people are brought up with in the present day. Because of this, the idea of a character sacrificing themself for the greater good or to protect their friends is not a novel idea to us in the present. In fact, it may even be considered an overused trope or plot device. It is almost cliched and not original in any way. We are so desensitized to this basic Bible inspired plot that we do not even realize that that is where it has come from. While I did agree with Jones s argument about this, I also felt that when a book uses the trope in the right way, like in Harry Potter where Harry sacrifices himself not just for his friends, but for the safety of the entire wizarding world and muggle world s combined, the biblical allusion becomes abundantly ... • 32. The Abols Of Symbolism In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The... In life, people see different meanings to the same events based on their perspective. In the same way, authors place symbols in a book to intensify the characters emotions and further the plot. Nathaniel Hawthorne uses symbols in The Scarlet Letter such as the color red, sunshine, and various characters, such as Chillingworth, Hester, and Pearl. Red is a color that can represent passion, sensitivity, or power. Throughout the novel, the color red represents all of these descriptions. Hawthorne creates red objects such as the rosebush, the letter A, and a meteor. The rosebush, as described by the author, ...symbolizes some sweet moral blossom, that may be found along the track, or relieve the darkening close of a tale of human frailty and sorrow, (Hawthorne 34). Being at the door of a dark prison, the rosebush stands in contrast to the prison, a place of suffering and shame, and instead gives joy to all who pass by. This symbol foreshadows Hester s future lifestyle and helps develop her character throughout the story. A similar theme of red is shown in the scarlet letter. The Puritans shame Hester by forcing her to wear it, symbolizing her sin; however, she overcomes this shame by helping the needy. • 38. The Second Treatise Of Government In the Second Treatise of Government, Locke explains human beings right of private property as a natural, enforceable right that men are granted with in the state of Nature as part of his larger justification of the replacement of the state of Nature by civil governments. The basis of Locke s interpretation of such right comes from God s ownership of what God creates, including both human beings and worldly resources. While human beings ownerships of their bodies are granted directly through God, Locke laid out 3 main conditions to be sufficed in order to justify private appropriations of worldly resources.
