What Is Alan Turing s Speech On The 150th Anniversary Of...
In the speech given by Woodrow Wilson on the 150th anniversary of Princeton University, what was
to become the unofficial motto, Princeton in the Nation s Service and in the Service of All Nations,
was first recited. In that address, Wilson concluded that our most important contributions to society s
well being depend on the continued pursuit of fundamental truths and basic research. I believe he was
saying that while it is imperative that we remain aware of the needs and demands of our own circle of
influence and generation, truly meaningful service to society comes through our passion for
knowledge and the desire to advance mankind. Alan Turing who was a 1938 graduate of Princeton
University, Computer Scientist and Cryptanalyst and Father of Artificial Intelligence embodied this
motto. Alan Turing was a mathematical genius and inspirational visionary, famous today for his code
breaking work during World War II that saved the allies from the Nazis. His study of mathematical
logic eventually led to the birth of the field of computer science. Although Alan Turing undeniably
changed the world for the better during a time when the world was at great risk, his academic work
was not purposely responding to concerns of the day. His inspiration was a ... Show more content on

Alan Turing was a tragic man who was disgraced despite his massive scientific contribution and
wartime service because it was revealed that he was homosexual. At the time it was believed that a
homosexual was vulnerable to extortion and enemy sabotage. Turing was arrested, stripped of his
security clearance, and forced to submit to barbaric medical treatment. Investigations concluded that
indulgence in homosexual behavior weakened the moral character of an individual and deemed them
unfit for positions of responsibility. Turing was virtually discharged from the work he had

Budweiser Clydesdale s Commercial Analysis
Brotherhood Budweiser Clydesdales commercials are always one of the most recognized commercials
during a super Bowl. They have been aired every year starting on Super Bowl XX in 1986, because of
this, many consider Budweiser ads as part of Super Bowl tradition. From the many, I chose the one
aired on Super Bowl XLVII (2013), titled Brotherhood . Not only was this one of the top Budweiser
commercial but it broke record over other commercials as one of the most shared Super Bowl Ad.
Brotherhood is about a farmer who raises a horse (Clydesdale) from its birth, creating a beautiful
relationship with it as it grew up. Although he has cared for his horse since birth, he sells it to
Budweiser s Clydesdale. Three years later, the farmer was reading

Body Cameras And The Law Enforcement Officers
In todays society, American citizens are unpleased with the law enforcement officers. These officers
are here protecting the people of America, and to get the people doing the wrong things off the street
so the rest of the people can be safe. In the past few months, there have been shootings of American
citizens, and shootings of law enforcement officers. The people of society are only seeing the bad side
of police officers, and never understand the whole story when needed to be heard. As the internet
continues to expand, the promises it makes is beyond human understanding (Carr 56). The internet
and television are the most complex form of technology, and only portray the bad side of cops. The
idea of multimedia is to combine text, sound, and pictures in a single package that you browse on
screen (Gelernter 97). The idea of body cameras put in the uniforms of the law enforcement officers
has been talked about, so that everyone can see the exact truth of the situation. The idea of body
cameras for the law enforcement officers has it benefits and drawbacks. I think having the body
cameras will greatly benefit the law enforcement officers in society today and in the future.
To begin with, allowing body cameras as a part of a law enforcement officers uniform would be
beneficial to the police officer. A benefit of having body cameras is decreasing complaints filed
against police officers. One of the most favored advantages brought about by body cameras is the

Making Sex, AAnd Of The One Sex Model Essay
Unit Two Sex is a complicated topic for a variety of reasons; one of which is how he differences
between men and women are described and explained. In Laqueur s book, Making Sex, a discretion of
the one sex model is given along with several contributing factors to the shift to a two sex model. In
this paper I would like to touch on some of the influences given in the book and out as evidence for
my own interpretation of how our current model developed. With the coming of the modern age came
a rapid influx of ideas; it was a time for revolutions to be made. I d like to start a bit before this time
though to see how the shift began. In the premodern era conquering other peoples was very common.
In a sense it was conquer, or be conquered. We rationalized that some people had progressed faster
than others, and therefore that is why they were able to overtake other communities or nations. These
people were civilized and the others savage . This difference in progress was a driving force in
developing technologies and ideas to stay above the people it ruled over. To do this, a strong military
and economy was needed. The developed nations needed the strongest population to defend, invade,
produce, and profit. In addition to this, the ruling class felt that it was not fair to leave their colonies so
underdeveloped; so in order to prevent the progression gap from widening it sought to help the poor
savages. This was achieved by several efforts to better the health of societies

Individualism In Rocky Iv
Ronald Reagan was the 40th president of America from 1981 to 1989. His arrival brought the promise
of a new dawn in American politics because he came to power in the midst of the Cold War(Richards),
a clash between two titans: the capitalist U.S and the communist U.S.S.R. During the Cold war, the
media became an extremely influential tool, especially in film. It was used as a form of propaganda by
both superpowers. Rocky IV, directed by Sylvester Stallone, is one such film that highlights and
endorses the ideals laid out by the Reagan Administration. These values can be briefly summarized as
the instigation of family values, the concept of rugged individualism, and perhaps more importantly,
the endless debate between communism and capitalism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The years of presidency lead to the decline of communism and the end of a grueling Cold war. He
redefined the purpose of a government (Bio). He reiterates a government is always elected for, by and

Dream. He encouraged the ideas of life, liberty, and freedom. He dared America to dream of greatness.
It is indeed, Reagan s dedication in the pursuit of individuality and self determination, which gets so
adequately illustrated by Rocky Balboa s resilience in Rocky IV. The film shows America that there is

Frictional Force Lab
The labs was about sliding surfaces and frictional force. The measurements were in Newtons. There
was different sliding surface, table top, waxed paper, paper towel, fine paper and coarse sand paper.
You will have to measure with a spring scale. You will have wood blocks to slide over the five surface.
You will have to do it 3 4 times and average it. The main thing is learned is how the sliding surfaces
creates frictional force.
In 4.1 you will have 5 different surfaces, you will have to slide the block over each surface 4 times the
the spring scale reading newtons. After when you are all you will have to average the number you got.
Like for table top trail 1(.75) trail 2(.75) trail 3( 1) trail 4(,75) add them up and divide by three
0.81(N). The average for waxed paper was 0.43(N), for paper towel 0.37(N), fine sand paper 1.56(N)

You will double the area and keep the weight safe, than triple the area and keep it the weight the same.
Last but not least when you four times the area and keeps the weight the same. When you double the
area and same weight what will happen to the friction. Same as triple and four times the area and keep
the weight the same. I said increase because I thought if you add more the friction will add a tiny bit
more. Every area of the block came out to be 2(N). So the friction stay the same, the sliding friction
does not depend on the area. Overall , we learned sliding surface and frictional force. Also when you
slide the blocks over different surfaces. The force can stay the same, increase and or decrease the
numbers. Took are measurement and meade two bargraphs, one was in lab 4.1 how the forces increase
or decrease. In graph 2 4.2, you had to graph the averages of the overall forces. For example you will
mark the depend and impend variable. Then graph the table top and the coarse sand paper 1 block 2

Pros And Consequences Of Sex Trafficking
Sex trafficking is a modern day form of slavery that involves the illegal trade of human beings for
some form of sexual exploitation. Crimes under the umbrella of sex trafficking are defined in three
ways: acquisition, movement, and exploitation, and include child sex tourism (CST) and prostitution
(Hammond McGlone, 2014). In a 2014 report, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime
(UNODC) estimated that there are approximately 800,000 people trafficked across international
borders annually, of which 80% are women or girls and 50% are minors, with an average age of 13.
This form of coerced sexual abuse has come to be considered the world s second largest criminal
industry and the fastest growing currently worth a whopping US $32 billion.
Another closely related form of abuse is commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC),
involving crimes of a sexual nature committed against juvenile victims for financial or other economic
reasons... These crimes include trafficking for sexual purposes, prostitution, sex tourism, mail order
bride trade, early marriage, pornography, stripping, and performing in sexual venues such as peep
shows or clubs (Institute of Medicine and National Research Council, 2013). Also included in this
definition is the exchange of sexual activity for necessities such as shelter, food, or money or survival
sex , a practice not uncommon among runaway or homeless youth. When CSEC involves United

Computer Industry And The World Of Mobile Phones
BY:DONTE. NETHERLANDS TECH .VS. USA TECH period3 Think different. It was more than an
advertising slogan. It was a manifesto, and with it, former Apple CEO Steve Jobs upended the
computer industry, the music industry and the world of mobile phones. The digital visionary s next
plan was to bring radical change to schools and textbook publishers, but he died of cancer before he
could do it
Some of the ideas that may have occurred to Jobs are now on display in the Netherlands. Eleven Steve
Jobs schools will open in August, with Amsterdam among the cities that will be hosting such a facility.
Some 1,000 children aged four to 12 will attend the schools, without notebooks, books or backpacks.
Each of them, however, will have his or her own iPad.
There will be no blackboards, chalk or classrooms, homeroom teachers, formal classes, lesson plans,
seating charts, pens, teachers teaching from the front of the room, schedules, parent teacher meetings,
grades, recess bells, fixed school days and school vacations. If a child would rather play on his or her
iPad instead of learning, it ll be okay. And the children will choose what they wish to learn based on
what they happen to be curious about.
Preparations are already underway in Breda, a town near Rotterdam where one of the schools is to be
located. Gertjan Kleinpaste, the 53 year old principal of the facility, is aware that his iPad school on

Examples Of Censorship In The Film Industry
Censorship is the act of controlling, filtering and suppressing of information within society. There is
censorship in almost every form of medium, especially in the film industry. Censorship is used to
control the content in movies that will be released to the public. Starting with the earliest examples of
motion pictures, a debate arose about whether the film industry was fit to control the content of its
own products. In 1909, the People s Institute in New York City created The New York Board of
Motion Picture Censorship . The board gained a great deal of influence beyond New York City, and
most of the major film producers eventually agreed to turn in all of their films to the board and also
agreed that any movie that does not meet the standard s of the board, will ... Show more content on

With today s more open minded and liberal way of thinking, censorship has been decreased vigorously
ever since the beginnings of the film industry, though it has not removed censorship completely.
The debate on censorship in the movie industry has always been whether censorship is an effective
way of quality control for the content being published in movies, or it is a direct violation of freedom
of speech. I personally believe in the latter. Why should the content creator be responsible for what the
viewer s take on their content? The film industry has an art to it that makes every consumer of every
movie take on a different perspective of the content they are consuming. But there will always be
someone looking at this argument and go Yes, I agree. But the reason why humans desire the removal
of censorship is to attain freedom, and freedom gives power, and with great power comes great
responsibility, and surely we don t want to leave that much power to someone .

The liability issue was introduced to the Indian Parliament by invoking the horror of the Union
Carbide Bhopal Gas tragedy incident where a gas leak from the Union Carbide operated pesticide
plant resulted in the death of thousands of civilians. The CLNDA 2010 has a simple purpose in that, it
makes sure the victims of a nuclear accident can receive quick compensation, without having to prove
that the plant operator is negligent irrespective of who is at fault.
In light of President Barack Obama s landmark visit to India this year, the two nations reached a
tentative agreement regarding the nuclear liability issue in terms of shared risk and U.S tracking of
nuclear material. The main idea was to transfer the financial risk to the insurers in case of an accident.
The US India civil nuclear deal (123 Agreement) had been stalemated for several years on 2 counts
1) The Liability clause that the US companies (GE and Westinghouse) saw as affecting their
profitability the compromise worked out is the creation of some kind of an insurance pool. Under this
workaround, an Indian state run insurance company GIC Re will contribute $122 million to the
insurance pool with the balance being covered by the Indian Government.
2) The US insistence on tracking the movement of nuclear fuel from third country sources this has
now been addressed by the US letting go of this demand and both countries agreeing to

Stephen Harper s Wealth Gap Analysis
Stephen Harper has continually disgraced Canada and its citizens throughout his almost 10 year reign
as Prime Minister. There are many problems that have risen throughout Harper s governing; the
widening of the wealth gap, the lack of women s rights and aboriginal rights are just a few. With an
election around the corner, it s time for change.
The Harper government tend to push aside many problems that exist in this nation. The wealth gap is
widening tremendously; the rich are getting richer and the poor are still poor. According to Statistics

Harper s actions.
The Harper government has also been neglecting important basic human rights that are given to
women and aboriginals. The Conservative party has cut funding to many women s groups. In 2006,
the Conservatives cut Status of Women Canada s budget by 37 percent and closed 12 of its 16 regional

How Did Thespis Use Masks In Ancient Greek Theatre
Masks played a vital role in many aspects of Ancient Greek theatre. The use of masks in Greek
antiquity originated not from the theatre, but from religious rituals honouring the god Dionysus.
Masks also partly originated from Greek mythology. From the rituals and festivals came Thespis, who
became the first known actor and playwright, as well as the first person to introduce masks to theatre.
The masks were intricately designed and served many purposes within the theatre. Masks that are
inspired by those used in Ancient Greek theatre are still used today in stage performances, and are
widely regarded as one of the most iconic components of Ancient Greek theatre.
The use of masks found their origins from religious rituals in Athens honouring Dionysus, the God of
wine, and fertility. The rituals were performed by the Ancient cult of Dionysus, which took over most
of Ancient Greece after 6th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Thespis was supposedly alive. It is believed that he was originally a poet, who was acknowledged as
creating a new style of performance, where a single actor would recite speeches in character and
interact with the chorus. This style became known as tragedy or tragoidia , meaning goat song , which
is referring to the goats sacrificed to Dionysus and the goat skins the actors wore. Thespis is also
credited with replacing the dithyrambic makeup early actors wore with linen masks to portray
characters. Competitions were held in City Dionysia in Athens to find the best tragedy in 534BC.
Thespis won the first known competition, and from here started capitalise on his success. He also

popularity in the Greek theatre meant that the masks that he introduced also became

However, Islamophobia picked up again when these European powers, which were mainly Christians,

also be used to increase signal reach in some areas and also make room for new services too. As well
as this, it will give viewers a wider variety of channels to watch and reduce costs for broadcasters that
would have had to pay more to transmit services in both formats. The downsides of the switching off
analogue will mostly affect homes in the UK as they will be the people who will have to start paying
for different means of watching TV. As well as affecting domestic settings, they will also be affecting
non domestic settings such as hospital s and TV rental businesses who rely on analogue TV. Having to
make the switch from analogue to digital will be difficult in hospitals as they will not only need new
TV sets, but will also have to pay for new Freeview TV set top boxes for their patients. It also means
that TV rental businesses will not be able to provide analogue TV s anymore as they will have no use,
cutting back their income. As well as this, some areas may even need new roof top aerials installed,
totalling up to a large sum of money to make the switch. As Digital televisions such as Freeview offer

The Lecture At The Angelica Library
The Opportunity in Lecturing
Things to Take From my Latest Historical Lecture at the Angelica Library
On August 18th, 2016, I had presented a historical lecture on the Abolitionist History of Allegany
County, at the Angelica Library. A number of times over the years I have given presentations and
lectures at my local library, for the sake of helping to spread ideas and information to others,
developing my skills, and other such purposes. I believe there is some use in reporting and reflecting
upon it, and that there can be some things to take away from it.
As part of my activities for during the summer break, I had figured I would give another historical
lecture at the Angelica Library. I figured that it would be a useful continuity with some of the
historical work that I have been doing. In the preceding semester I had written a paper on the
abolitionist history of Allegany County for a class in American Slavery. Following this, I had
uncovered some further information on aspects of the subject. When it came time for submissions to
the annual Phi Alpha Theta regional history conference, I had decided to write another paper on the
subject incorporating this additional information. I had presented this paper at the conference at Ithaca
College during my speaking section. From that point I had also gained some other interesting bits of
information to add on my knowledge on the matter. For instance, during another section of the
conference I had listened to the presentation

The Future Of Transportation, Electricity, And Energy
When Benjamin Franklin first discovered electricity, it was one of the biggest discoveries known to
mankind. Even though our dependence on electricity is enormous, it is still easy to forget just how
dependent we are on electricity. Electricity has played a huge part in our everyday lives and will
continue to do so. In fact, it is quite hard to imagine humanity without electricity. When it comes to
transportation, electricity will someday rewrite the history books. One of the most important issues in
the future of transportation is to decrease emissions. The amount of people that are driving individual
vehicles will also need to be reduced. One of the bigger problems is that we are using our fossil fuels
in a bad manner and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because they are supposed to give power during a large amount of time. In result, deep cycle
batteries are used instead of SLI batteries for these applications. Many current technologies have much
lower specific energy which impacts the maximum all electric range of the vehicles. On the other
hand, metal air batteries have high specific energy because the cathode is provided by the surrounding
oxygen in the air. One definite application of electromagnetic technology relates to a form of
transportation that might appear to be old news at first, which is trains. However, magnetic levitation
trains are as far removed from the old stream engines of the Union Pacific as the space shuttle is from
the Wright brothers experimental airplane. Those type of engines most likely laid the ground work for
the other engines even though they are very old fashioned. Having some basic knowledge of the
various sciences as it is a starting point for Maglev would most likely be in best interest. Having some
basic knowledge on how to assign common variables to physics terms and a brief overview of the
laws of chemistry dealing with magnetism is very important. This is so important because most of, if
not all the equations used to determine how the Maglev trains move is derived from formulas used to
calculate electric current. You have to understand the use of magnetism in

Explain How To Teach Children To Swim
To teach children to swim, you will need a pool and patience. Lessons are taught by lifeguards, as well
as by individuals in the community. Swimming is a helpful skill to learn for people as it is great
exercise and fun to do. This can be a frustrating job but is worth the trouble. The first thing to teach
children is to put their face in water and blow out of their nose. This is vital to teach early on in order
for them to grasp the concept that they will not get water in their nose. They really have to figure that

These skills can be life saving in some circumstances. To teach the child how to float on their back,
you should use a noodle under either the back or under the arms to start. The child will be scared at
first, so they must be convinced that nothing bad will happen when they lay their head back. You
should help the by getting their body in the right place by getting them to move their legs as if they
were slowly riding a bicycle. After they are comfortable, remove the noodle carefully. It will take a
few tries for this to be successful as the child is alarmed by their support being removed. Once
learned, floating on the back is a relaxing a life saving skill to obtain. Treading is a more tiring activity
but is important nonetheless. To teach this, you should be in an area of the water that the child can
touch but is not halfway out of the water. You should explain to the individual that they should move
their legs like they are riding a bike in the water. The arms should move around in circles to help. This

The Sixth Extinction Analysis
Today s world, meaning the 21st century, has changed significantly since the time of the early 18th
century. Yet, some ideals still hold value and importance when in reference to how people should live.
This essay will explore how Alexander Pope would interpret the actions and choices of people from
the 21st century if he were still alive. The pieces of work that will be critiqued by the perceptions of
Pope are two books The Sixth Extinction and Los Angeles against The Mountains. The piece of work
that I will be using to support Pope s interpretations and perceptions is Essay on Man , which is
written by Alexander Pope. The general message from Pope in Essay on Man is that God has created
everything to its perfection, and that the limits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is this deep conservatism that brings a dilemma as to how Pope would react the the
content in The Sixth Extinction because this piece of literature sets out to make awareness of a mass
extinction that is being created by people which theoretically, would be supported by Pope. Yet, he
could also be disapproving since the end of the book sets forth to prevent an extinction, which in a
sense is trying to control nature. For example, in The Sixth Extinction Kolbert says There are all sorts
of seemingly disparate reasons that species are disappearing. But trace the process far enough and
inevitably you are led to the same culprit: one weedy species . (Kolbert 18). The weedy species that
Kolbert is referring to is the human race, and it is this species that is causing harm to other species.
Either way, the etiology is the same, without being located by someone onto a boat or a plane, it
would have been impossible for a frog carrying Bd to get from Africa to Australia ... (18). The author
goes further to depict the reason why some of these animal extinctions occur, but the most interesting
in my opinion is when she discusses how human beings interact with the habitats of certain animals.
The slice of the habitat they ve been marooned on is inadequate. A big cat that requires a range of
forty squares miles isn t likely to make it for long in an area of only twenty square miles (180). With
the weedy species cutting away and sectioning of parts of animal s habitats, it forces them to live with
restrictions and limitation. Smaller ranges to live in, less food, and cramped populations. All these
problem eventually attribute to death because these animals can t move at the same pace as humans
do, to adjust to the renewed habitat. This problem clearly would be disapproved by Alexander Pope.

vacation. Experiencing a new culture is exciting, but rather nerve wracking as well. So, how to
smoothen the experience and focus on having a good time? Here are a few tips on travelling abroad on
a vacation stress and hassle free. Stick to 6 month passport rule Travel documents are one of the most
important things to get right. Your journey won t last that long if you forget to take care of your

tourists! Check for online discounts You will want to visit tourist attractions and other such places
during your holiday. But try skip booking them once you are already abroad and instead, look for
online discounts before you travel. Places like jetparks.co.uk have special vouchers online that could
cut the entrance and staying fees, especially if you book well in advance. The same can even apply to
restaurants and hotels. Besides, booking online will save you a lot of queuing time. Check your

How Did The Silk Road Influence The Spread Of Buddhism
In the fifth century BC, in the eastern parts of ancient India, Buddhism was born. This faith was based
on the teachings of Siddhārtha Gautama, and is one of the oldest religions today. As it spread along
trade routes in Central, East, and Southern Asia, it evolved. Buddhism influenced most of the Asian
continent at some point. An important part of the spread of Buddhism was the Silk Road. These trade
routes were not only used for goods, but also for belief systems, one of these being Buddhism. The
Silk Road influenced the spread of Buddhism by encouraging intercultural exchange, by influencing
the language and meaning of Buddhist texts, and by providing leaders control of the way Buddhism
spread.

Individual Subjectivity And The Question Of Selfhood Essay
Individual subjectivity and the question of selfhood have been common themes in Caribbean literature
throughout the years, as the Caribbean has struggled to find its own identity.
This search for selfhood is most evident in the work Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid. In this text, Lucy, a
young woman from the Caribbean, moves to America to work as an au pair for a rich couple, Lewis
and Mariah. However, she has not moved here for the money alone. Instead, Lucy is trying to escape
her Caribbean roots and find a new identity in North America. To what extent, then, is Lucy able to
change her selfhood? How malleable is a person s individual subjectivity? To answer these questions,
it is important to evaluate what affect various factors had on Lucy s sense of self, paying close
attention to her race and gender, the other people and the society that she chooses to surround herself
with, and her own internal desire to change who she is. After exploring these topics, it should be safe
to conclude that altering one s individual subjectivity is extremely difficult, if not impossible, and
Lucy is no exception. While there are many personal factors and situations that dictate Lucy s
experiences growing up and her opportunities in life, there are none as dominant as her gender and her
race. Being a woman impacted Lucy in many ways, from her job opportunities to her sexuality.
However, the impact of her gender on her life is most evident through her relationship with her
mother. This

of documents into clusters so that documents within a cluster have high similarity in comparison to
documents in other clusters. It is measuring similarity between documents and grouping similar
documents together. The study of similarity measure for clustering is initially motivated by a research
on automated text categorization. There was several similarity measures used for document similarity.
It provides client representation and visualization of the documents; thus helps in easy navigation also.
It has been used intensively because of its wide applicability in various areas such as web mining,
search engines, and information retrieval. The key of organizing data in such a way is to improve data
availability and to fasten data access, so that web information retrieval and content delivery on the
web are improved. The main idea is to improve the accessibility and usability of text mining for
various applications. By optimizing similarity measures the optimal clusters can be formed thus
performance is improved. 1.

Comparing Marie Clements s The Unnatural And Accidental Women
Between 1965 and 1988 Gilbert Paul Jordan was linked to the murders of ten women of aboriginal
dissent. Marie Clements play The Unnatural and Accidental Women puts a fictional account to the
realistic murders of the aboriginal women in Vancouver. During the original murders the large
misunderstanding and misinterpretation around aboriginal culture caused the murders of the women to
be ignored, the women themselves to be viewed as invisible, or the murders to be deemed not
important or accidental . In her play Clements recreates the original murders of the boozing barber ,
Gilbert Paul Jordan, however in the play she creates an identity for the murdered women that was not
shown by the media, police or culture in Vancouver at the time of the original murders. The original
murders of the boozing barber were completed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most important aspects that Sharon Sullivan highlights in her article about the play is how
its surrealism allows for the focus to be on the women, and not the killings. Clements decentres the act
of murder by focusing on the experiences and actions of the women before and after death,
emphasizing their individuality and the possibility of redemption. (Sullivan, 68) The film, however,
nullifies any attempt by the play to humanize these women, for it cuts out the witty dialogues between
the women, portraying them only as they are represented in the media, as alcoholics, prostitutes, and
victims. The movie places the murder and Rebecca, Aunt Shadie s Daughter, at the center of the plot
line and completely erases the side stories of the murdered aboriginal women. While the screenplay is
also written by Marie Clements, it dehumanizes the women by stripping them of their identity and
turning their stories back into a classic Hollywood horror

Applications Of Photonic Circuits
2.1 Introduction
There have been extensive research in field the integrated photonics and industry in recent years.
There photonic circuits are advantageous as compared to conventional electronic circuits in a vast
range of applications.. Therefore, so much research have been done on photonic devices, such as
HCGs and photonic crystal based hollow waveguides, Bragg reflectors and their integrations with
electronic devices.
2.2 Literature Review
High index contrast gratings have been a very appealing choice over conventional DBRs in terms of
high reflection, size etc, also unlike DBRs, they provide phase and polarization control of light. The
huge mismatch between the electronic and photonic devices blocks the realization of high ... Show

So in order to increase the delay of the structure ,the input waveguide is extended with sharp bend
waveguide and the output waveguide with a smooth bend waveguide. The modified D flip flop
structure has been operated with a delay of more than two fold of the basic structure by having nearly
the same CR at the output. The simulation results as well as compact design of the proposed structure
make it suitable to be a part of photonic integrated circuit.
Takeo Katayama et al. 2016 [42] have done research on the optical coupling between a polarization
independent high index contrast grating (HCG) and two orthogonal in plane waveguides. They have
fabricated HCG with waveguides on a SOI (silicon on insulator) substrate. The proposed waveguide
coupled HCG can be used into a polarization bi stable vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL),
which would switch the output waveguide by changing the lasing polarization of the VCSEL. It has
been demonstrated that we can switch a waveguide with a strong output by changing the polarization
of light injected into the HCG. The light is more strongly coupled to the waveguide in the direction
perpendicular to the polarization of the incident light than to that in the parallel direction.
Eungtaek Kim et al. 2016 [43] have suggested functional passivation layers in the form of a
distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) which is composed of ZnS and LiF for transparent thin film

herself in hopes of making her audience laugh along with her. This type of writing, labeled as

Szymborska Relationship
Szymborska s display of her relationship with and between poetry and society over time through
Poetry Reading and Stage Fright
Although the majority of her poetry was written about the political and global happenings in her time,
Szymborska wrote a fair number of poems about poetry. These poems served as her hotline to society,
a glimpse into her personal life and an example of the lives of similar poets. Szymborska clearly felt a
conflict between herself and society s relationship with poetry. Although her depiction of her feelings
changed over time, there was a common theme of discomfort or confusion. Szymborska visits the
topic of poetry through her poems to share her opinion as it grows and changes. Szymborska displayed
her relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the poem, the complains about how unfairly poetry is viewed in society, and almost
sarcastically questions an unidentifiable person, possibly society as a whole, are you serious? Is this
really what you expect of me? Poetry is put on as a show as something more than it is. Upset by this
unfair portrayal, Szymborska rhetorically questions why it has come to be like this, and if people truly
expect her to go along with it. This is uniquely shown by her use of em dashes in place of question
marks, and ending the poem with a question mark. She is clearly upset with how she is flaunted, when
in reality her life is quite simple. She compares herself to a clumsy ersatz angel , a cheap substitute for
a figure revered as peculiar (179). In Poetry Reading , Szymborska is let down by the lack of interest
in poetry. However she now is disgusted by the cheap exploitation of a rather humble career. However,
Szymborska s calmness about poetry itself stays true to Poetry Reading . When referring to the poems
themselves, she does not take care to describe the details. She states the actuality of her life, such as
writing by the light of an ordinary bulb / to the typewriter s tap tap tap (179). To Szymborska s
disgust, society now uses poetry, which it once pushed aside, as an outlet for exaggerated
entertainment.

The Bible Passage Judges Chapter Fourteen
I have selected the Bible passage Judges Chapter Fourteen verses One Twenty and have analyzed and
interpreted this specific passage by using the King James Version Study Bible. I have also read the
article, A Black Feminist Approach to Biblical Studies by Wilda Gafney, which also interprets and
analyzes this specific Bible passage. After interpreting this passage myself and then reading Gafney s
work, I can see that we had both seen the story pretty similarly except for that she noticed some
specific details in the passage that failed to catch my attention. Her points are strong and compelling
but is she looking too deeply into the story?
The Book of Judges is thought to be possibly written by Samuel and the purpose of this book is stated
to be, to show that God s judgement against sin is certain, and his forgiveness of sin and restoration to
relationship are just as certain for those who repent (KJV Study Bible). Judges Chapter Fourteen
verses One Twenty is specifically the story of Samson s Feast and Riddle. The author of this passage
(thought to be Samuel) is saying that you should not use God s blessings for selfish purposes. It is a
special gift for God to give you these strengths and abilities and to use them selfishly is robbing God,
the church, and his fellow believers (KJV Study Bible). As you use the gifts God has given you, you
should be sure that you are helping others as God would want you too, not just yourself. This specific
Bible passage tells the story

Modern Food During The Medieval Era
Food is an essential need in order to survive. Medieval food took a turn during the Middle Ages.
Different foods were put in groups to be consumed according to the social rank of individuals. Noble s
diets would be unquestionably different than the peasants. Religion also played a significant role on
food during the Medieval Times. People celebrated large banquets and feasts during this Era. During
the Medieval Era, there was a difference in food that was consumed by the rich and poor. The diet of
the rich and the poor was not considered healthy and balanced. Rich individuals were called nobles or
royalty. The quality of food that was ingested by the rich and poor differed significantly. If you were
considered royalty, ingredients such as spices, sweet foods, and sugar was available to you. Upper and
lower classes both ate three meals a day. The upper class s food would be served from silverware and
gold dishes. Here in the United States, liquid food is generally eaten with spoons, but people during
medieval times drank liquid food from cups. Expensive spices such as pepper, cinnamon, cloves,
nutmeg, ginger and so on was put in most of the food consumed by the Upper class. The nobles drank
a variety of wines.
The poor were called peasants. Peasants had to eat food that came from the ground; these vegetables
consisted of cabbage, beets, onions, garlic, and carrots. Their diet was mainly bread, pottage, and dairy
products. Peasants consumed many carbohydrates daily. These

  • 2. What Is Alan Turing s Speech On The 150th Anniversary Of... In the speech given by Woodrow Wilson on the 150th anniversary of Princeton University, what was to become the unofficial motto, Princeton in the Nation s Service and in the Service of All Nations, was first recited. In that address, Wilson concluded that our most important contributions to society s well being depend on the continued pursuit of fundamental truths and basic research. I believe he was saying that while it is imperative that we remain aware of the needs and demands of our own circle of influence and generation, truly meaningful service to society comes through our passion for knowledge and the desire to advance mankind. Alan Turing who was a 1938 graduate of Princeton University, Computer Scientist and Cryptanalyst and Father of Artificial Intelligence embodied this motto. Alan Turing was a mathematical genius and inspirational visionary, famous today for his code breaking work during World War II that saved the allies from the Nazis. His study of mathematical logic eventually led to the birth of the field of computer science. Although Alan Turing undeniably changed the world for the better during a time when the world was at great risk, his academic work was not purposely responding to concerns of the day. His inspiration was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Investigations concluded that indulgence in homosexual behavior weakened the moral character of an individual and deemed them unfit for positions of responsibility. They have been aired every year starting on Super Bowl XX in 1986, because of this, many consider Budweiser ads as part of Super Bowl tradition. From the many, I chose the one aired on Super Bowl XLVII (2013), titled Brotherhood . Not only was this one of the top Budweiser commercial but it broke record over other commercials as one of the most shared Super Bowl Ad. Brotherhood is about a farmer who raises a horse (Clydesdale) from its birth, creating a beautiful relationship with it as it grew up. • 4. Body Cameras And The Law Enforcement Officers In todays society, American citizens are unpleased with the law enforcement officers. These officers are here protecting the people of America, and to get the people doing the wrong things off the street so the rest of the people can be safe. In the past few months, there have been shootings of American citizens, and shootings of law enforcement officers. The people of society are only seeing the bad side of police officers, and never understand the whole story when needed to be heard. As the internet continues to expand, the promises it makes is beyond human understanding (Carr 56). The internet and television are the most complex form of technology, and only portray the bad side of cops. The idea of multimedia is to combine text, sound, and pictures in a single package that you browse on screen (Gelernter 97). The idea of body cameras put in the uniforms of the law enforcement officers has been talked about, so that everyone can see the exact truth of the situation. The idea of body cameras for the law enforcement officers has it benefits and drawbacks. I think having the body cameras will greatly benefit the law enforcement officers in society today and in the future. To begin with, allowing body cameras as a part of a law enforcement officers uniform would be beneficial to the police officer. A benefit of having body cameras is decreasing complaints filed against police officers. One of the most favored advantages brought about by body cameras is the noticeable ... In Laqueur s book, Making Sex, a discretion of the one sex model is given along with several contributing factors to the shift to a two sex model. In this paper I would like to touch on some of the influences given in the book and out as evidence for my own interpretation of how our current model developed. With the coming of the modern age came a rapid influx of ideas; it was a time for revolutions to be made. I d like to start a bit before this time though to see how the shift began. In the premodern era conquering other peoples was very common. In a sense it was conquer, or be conquered. We rationalized that some people had progressed faster than others, and therefore that is why they were able to overtake other communities or nations. These people were civilized and the others savage . This difference in progress was a driving force in developing technologies and ideas to stay above the people it ruled over. To do this, a strong military and economy was needed. The developed nations needed the strongest population to defend, invade, produce, and profit. In addition to this, the ruling class felt that it was not fair to leave their colonies so underdeveloped; so in order to prevent the progression gap from widening it sought to help the poor savages. This was achieved by several efforts to better the health of societies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His arrival brought the promise of a new dawn in American politics because he came to power in the midst of the Cold War(Richards), a clash between two titans: the capitalist U.S and the communist U.S.S.R. During the Cold war, the media became an extremely influential tool, especially in film. It was used as a form of propaganda by both superpowers. Rocky IV, directed by Sylvester Stallone, is one such film that highlights and endorses the ideals laid out by the Reagan Administration. These values can be briefly summarized as the instigation of family values, the concept of rugged individualism, and perhaps more importantly, the endless debate between communism and capitalism. ... There was different sliding surface, table top, waxed paper, paper towel, fine paper and coarse sand paper. You will have to measure with a spring scale. In 4.1 you will have 5 different surfaces, you will have to slide the block over each surface 4 times the the spring scale reading newtons. After when you are all you will have to average the number you got. Like for table top trail 1(.75) trail 2(.75) trail 3( 1) trail 4(,75) add them up and divide by three 0.81(N). There is censorship in almost every form of medium, especially in the film industry. Censorship is used to control the content in movies that will be released to the public. Starting with the earliest examples of motion pictures, a debate arose about whether the film industry was fit to control the content of its own products. In 1909, the People s Institute in New York City created The New York Board of Motion Picture Censorship . I personally believe in the latter. Why should the content creator be responsible for what the viewer s take on their content? The film industry has an art to it that makes every consumer of every movie take on a different perspective of the content they are consuming. But there will always be someone looking at this argument and go Yes, I agree. The amount of people that are driving individual vehicles will also need to be reduced. One of the bigger problems is that we are using our fossil fuels in a bad manner and the ... In result, deep cycle batteries are used instead of SLI batteries for these applications. Many current technologies have much lower specific energy which impacts the maximum all electric range of the vehicles. On the other hand, metal air batteries have high specific energy because the cathode is provided by the surrounding oxygen in the air. One definite application of electromagnetic technology relates to a form of transportation that might appear to be old news at first, which is trains. However, magnetic levitation trains are as far removed from the old stream engines of the Union Pacific as the space shuttle is from the Wright brothers experimental airplane. Swimming is a helpful skill to learn for people as it is great exercise and fun to do. This can be a frustrating job but is worth the trouble. The first thing to teach children is to put their face in water and blow out of their nose. This is vital to teach early on in order for them to grasp the concept that they will not get water in their nose. They really have to figure that out for themselves, but you must in order to guide them in the right direction. You should help the by getting their body in the right place by getting them to move their legs as if they were slowly riding a bicycle. After they are comfortable, remove the noodle carefully. It will take a few tries for this to be successful as the child is alarmed by their support being removed. Once learned, floating on the back is a relaxing a life saving skill to obtain. Treading is a more tiring activity but is important nonetheless. To teach this, you should be in an area of the water that the child can touch but is not halfway out of the water. You should explain to the individual that they should move their legs like they are riding a bike in the water. The arms should move around in circles to help. Yet, some ideals still hold value and importance when in reference to how people should live. This essay will explore how Alexander Pope would interpret the actions and choices of people from the 21st century if he were still alive. The pieces of work that will be critiqued by the perceptions of Pope are two books The Sixth Extinction and Los Angeles against The Mountains. However, it is this deep conservatism that brings a dilemma as to how Pope would react the the content in The Sixth Extinction because this piece of literature sets out to make awareness of a mass extinction that is being created by people which theoretically, would be supported by Pope. Yet, he could also be disapproving since the end of the book sets forth to prevent an extinction, which in a sense is trying to control nature. For example, in The Sixth Extinction Kolbert says There are all sorts of seemingly disparate reasons that species are disappearing. But trace the process far enough and inevitably you are led to the same culprit: one weedy species . (Kolbert 18). The weedy species that Kolbert is referring to is the human race, and it is this species that is causing harm to other species. Either way, the etiology is the same, without being located by someone onto a boat or a plane, it would have been impossible for a frog carrying Bd to get from Africa to Australia ... (18). The author goes further to depict the reason why some of these animal extinctions occur, but the most interesting in my opinion is when she discusses how human beings interact with the habitats of certain animals. The slice of the habitat they ve been marooned on is inadequate. A big cat that requires a range of forty squares miles isn t likely to make it for long in an area of only twenty square miles (180). With the weedy species cutting away and sectioning of parts of animal s habitats, it forces them to live with restrictions and limitation. Smaller ranges to live in, less food, and cramped populations. All these problem eventually attribute to death because these animals can t move at the same pace as humans do, to adjust to the renewed habitat. This problem clearly would be disapproved by Alexander Pope. The most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Individual Subjectivity And The Question Of Selfhood Essay Individual subjectivity and the question of selfhood have been common themes in Caribbean literature throughout the years, as the Caribbean has struggled to find its own identity. This search for selfhood is most evident in the work Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid. In this text, Lucy, a young woman from the Caribbean, moves to America to work as an au pair for a rich couple, Lewis and Mariah. However, she has not moved here for the money alone. Instead, Lucy is trying to escape her Caribbean roots and find a new identity in North America. To what extent, then, is Lucy able to change her selfhood? How malleable is a person s individual subjectivity? To answer these questions, it is important to evaluate what affect various factors had on Lucy s sense of self, paying close attention to her race and gender, the other people and the society that she chooses to surround herself with, and her own internal desire to change who she is. After exploring these topics, it should be safe to conclude that altering one s individual subjectivity is extremely difficult, if not impossible, and Lucy is no exception. While there are many personal factors and situations that dictate Lucy s experiences growing up and her opportunities in life, there are none as dominant as her gender and her race. Being a woman impacted Lucy in many ways, from her job opportunities to her sexuality. However, the impact of her gender on her life is most evident through her relationship with her mother. This ... It is measuring similarity between documents and grouping similar documents together. The study of similarity measure for clustering is initially motivated by a research on automated text categorization. There was several similarity measures used for document similarity. It provides client representation and visualization of the documents; thus helps in easy navigation also. It has been used intensively because of its wide applicability in various areas such as web mining, search engines, and information retrieval. The key of organizing data in such a way is to improve data availability and to fasten data access, so that web information retrieval and content delivery on the web are improved. The main idea is to improve the accessibility and usability of text mining for various applications. By optimizing similarity measures the optimal clusters can be formed thus performance is improved. 1. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Marie Clements play The Unnatural and Accidental Women puts a fictional account to the realistic murders of the aboriginal women in Vancouver. One of the most important aspects that Sharon Sullivan highlights in her article about the play is how its surrealism allows for the focus to be on the women, and not the killings. Clements decentres the act of murder by focusing on the experiences and actions of the women before and after death, emphasizing their individuality and the possibility of redemption. (Sullivan, 68) The film, however, nullifies any attempt by the play to humanize these women, for it cuts out the witty dialogues between the women, portraying them only as they are represented in the media, as alcoholics, prostitutes, and victims. The movie places the murder and Rebecca, Aunt Shadie s Daughter, at the center of the plot line and completely erases the side stories of the murdered aboriginal women. So in order to increase the delay of the structure ,the input waveguide is extended with sharp bend waveguide and the output waveguide with a smooth bend waveguide. The modified D flip flop structure has been operated with a delay of more than two fold of the basic structure by having nearly the same CR at the output. The simulation results as well as compact design of the proposed structure make it suitable to be a part of photonic integrated circuit. Takeo Katayama et al. 2016 [42] have done research on the optical coupling between a polarization independent high index contrast grating (HCG) and two orthogonal in plane waveguides. They have fabricated HCG with waveguides on a SOI (silicon on insulator) substrate. The proposed waveguide coupled HCG can be used into a polarization bi stable vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL), which would switch the output waveguide by changing the lasing polarization of the VCSEL. It has been demonstrated that we can switch a waveguide with a strong output by changing the polarization of light injected into the HCG. The light is more strongly coupled to the waveguide in the direction perpendicular to the polarization of the incident light than to that in the parallel direction. Upset by this unfair portrayal, Szymborska rhetorically questions why it has come to be like this, and if people truly expect her to go along with it.
