Difference Between African American English Diverging From...
African American English is diverging from Standard American English. As shown in Do You Speak
American (2005), AAE originates from the time of the trans Atlantic slave trade. English was
introduced to trade ports in Africa by colonialists, resulting in the creation of pidgin a mixture of
English and African languages that is still in use today. More recently, African Americans who have
moved from the South to the North have been more segregated, creating greater divergence between
AAE and SAE. As many African Americans maintain ties to the South, such as continued contact with
friends or family in the south, similarities between AAE and southern dialects remain. However, each
group have selected features that are important, such as maintaining r in the North or keeping certain
features as a way of preserving history, resulting in different dialect patterns between the North and
the South to develop.
It is arguable that African American English is a dialect of contemporary American English. While
AAE is different and is easily distinguishable from Standard American English, the two dialects still
share similarities and are forms of vernacular English. As AAE stems from and shares many linguistic
patterns with Creole and other African languages, it is possible to argue that AAE is in fact not related
to contemporary American English at all. However, I feel that the different influences on language are
simple markers of regional variation and not enough to fully

How Is Ancient Egypt Different From Our Culture
Did you know that the Egyptians kids were naked untill they were six years old? If you are six years
old or younger you would be naked right now if you lived in the Ancient Egypt time. The Egyptians
had many different cultures than us. Clothings, jewelry, makeup, and etc. are some examples that were
different than our culture. Clothing is very different than us. Most of the men in working classes wore
either loincloth or short kilt and sometimes a type of shirt. Women wore straight dresses with one or
two straps. Animal skins, above all leopard skins, worn by priests and by pharaohs. At times Kings
and Queens wore ceremonial clothing adorned with feathers.
Another example is the jewelry. Specific materials, colours, and designs were often associated with
certain gods or goddesses or magical qualities of protection. Any changes to these could affect the
spiritual value of the items. Everyone wore jewelry in Ancient Egypt, from poor farmers to wethly
royals. For the wealthy, pieces were made from semi precious ... Show more content on

Egyptians appeared to care a great deal about the way they looked. Pharaohs had their own
hairdressers and manicurists and cosmetics was big business. Archaeologists have unearthed mirrors,
hair pins, makeup containers, brushes and other items. On special occasions ancient Egyptians wore
greasy cones of fragrance on their head that melted in the heat and dripped perfume on their wigs. To
decorate their eyes, the Ancient Egyptians used black and green paints. The black paint was derived
from powdered galena (now known as kohl) and it was supposed to protect eyes from the hot sun. The
green paint was derived from malachite powder (a green coloured mineral) and was used because it
would make eyes appear larger. In addition, green paint was believed to invoke the eye of Horus, the
god of The Sky Sun and also of healing. For this reason, the Egyptians thought green paint would
protect those who wore

Individualism in The Fountainhead Essay
Individualism in The Fountainhead
Individualism, the doctrine of free thought and action of the individual, forms the basis of Ayn Rand s
novel The Fountainhead. The major theme of her fiction is the primacy of the individual, the unique
and precious individual life. That which sustains and enriches life is good, that which negates and
impoverishes the individual s pursuit of happiness is evil.
The Fountainhead is Rand s fullest explication of the primacy of the individual. As she worked out her
interpretation of the inalienable rights: the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; and what
these entailed, she saw three areas of conflict where these rights were held in balance.

Henry Cameron, Roark s mentor both in work and principles had been very successful, but had
gradually faded away into oblivion. He did not give in to others demands on him and worshipped and
believed in the heroic in man....... he wished to build as he wished, and for that reason only. For him
Gail Wynand represented everything that s wrong with the world.
Peter Keating, a successful young architect, Roark s senior, possesses a modicum of talent but guides
his life by pursuing what other people want of him. Though openly successful he is actually a bundle
of anxieties. This he tries to obscure by amassing wealth and following proper public opinions. In all
his major works, it was Roark who provided him with ideas.
When he achieves everything he should want, he doesn t understand the hollowness of it all. He can
never be satisfied because he has never gone after what he wants. He is a parasite, a second hander as
Roark calls him; incapable of self direction.

Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach the complete works
Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach the complete works
This is the volume I of the Series II. It includes sixteen sonatas. Only one of them is unaccmpaniment
flute sonata, other fifteen pieces are wind and string instruments and basso continuo. Excepts the
manuscripts and the scores, this volume also contains three useful sections which are an introduction,
Abbreviations, and the critical report. The critical report is located on the page one hundred and
twenty seven to page one hundred and forty six.
First of all, the author described the detailed information about the composed years and historic
background. Even some of the pieces is hard to track the composed year, but the author still tried to
find out the evidences to figure out the years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other section of the commentary report is the commentary of the scores which are collected in this
book. The commentary is arranged in a really standard form, and the comments on performance are
quite helpful to the performers. For instance, the commentary of Sonanta in B flat Major for Flute and
Basso Continu, Wq,125 is located from the page one hundred and thirty six to page one hundred and
thirty seven. In the commentary, it mainly shows the measure numbers, part of the voice, and remarks.
For Measure number, it used the number to mark each specific measure. In the part of the voice, fl
means the voice of the flute, and b.c. means the voice of the basso continuo. In the section of remarks,
it contains very detailed comments on the performance. Even it points out the version that it follows.
As I have tried out all the comments on this piece, I found that the changes make music sound more
interesting and artistic. For instance, the Sonata in B flat major for flute and Basso continuous second
movement Allegro. In the third measure, it suggests the note 2 changed from F to A. After this
changing, the melody of flute sounds more interesting. In the measure six, it suggests moving the slur
from notes 3 4 for notes 2 4. That lets the melody skip a minor third and sounds more stable in the
beginning section than the original one. In the measure twenty seven,

Reflection On The Stamp Act Of 1765
Today, I sat down with my family at our home in Boston, and we had a very interesting conversation
about the most recent actions of the British Parliament that is hurting all of the colonists, their
families, and communities that we live in. Of course, I am talking about the Stamp Act of 1765. At
first, I thought I was the only person in our family who paid any attention to the political events and
unfair actions of good old mother England. I was a little nervous about how our family was going to
react when I told them that I had just signed up to be a member of the Sons of Liberty. My family was
very interested in what the Sons of Liberty were going to do to help the colonists in the fight against
what all colonists see as unfair taxation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The colonist argued to the king that the representatives should be the only ones to tax the colonist.
They thought it wasn t fair and started using the phrase taxation without representation . Which meant
that the colonist wanted a say in whether the taxes should be balanced or not. In my opinion, I believe
that it wasn t fair and the British should let us have a say. Which everybody believes that too probably.
After the declaring of the stamp act, The Patriots formed a group of protesters known as the Sons of
Liberty. Who fought for the other colonists. The leader of these protesters were the one and only,
Samuel Adams. These protesters used many the different methods, but the one that stood out was the
method of intimidation to get tax collectors to resign from their job. this method worked really well
for the Sons of Liberty. This is one of the many phenomenal reasons that the Sons of Liberty were an
import role in the American revolution.
In the year of 1766, a group of protesters known as the Stamp Act congress started meeting in the
great and wonderful City of New York City. The dates of the meeting were the month of October 7
until October 23, 1765. In result of this act of the Stamp Act Congress, The British repealed on the
date of, March 18,1766. Which caused the act to have no more play on the colonists. Now the
Americans have the freedom of the possession of paper

Society Moral in Tithe by Holly Black Essay
In the world where both fairies and humans live together as one, but still not knowing one another
exist, both society follow the same moral. Tithe a modern faire tale by Holly Black suggest that no
matter who you are you should have loyalty in friendship though the faithfulness between the
characters , trust and scarifies that have been made for each other.
Loyalty in friendship is shown through the faithfulness of the characters. Robien, a faire had stayed
faithful to Kaye after the day he met her. When the Unseelie court faire had come back and wanted
Robien back he said, I am home, lady. Now tell your men to put down his weapon and I will allow
you to leave Unseelie court unharmed. (Black 325) Robien was very actuated to the ... Show more

Also, fairies do not trust anyone with their names but while Kaye is helping Roiben at a stage of death,
he told Kaye his name. Kaye thought to herself, Faires didn t give their names easily even apart of
their names, although she had no idea why. (Black 27) Robien knew she could control him if she
found out his full name but still decided to trust her, because of her noble deed. In friendship trust is
the most important part of loyalty.
Moreover, the scarifies one makes for their friends also show the loyalty in the friendship. As Kaye
saved Roiben from dying, sacrificing her own life shows the kind of friendship they have. While
laying on the ground under a tree Roiben says, I am in your debt. I mislike not knowing how I must
repay it. (Black 42) He is thankful to Kaye from saving her and now believes he has to give her life to
her. This sacrifice shows how loyal friends would do anything for one another. Along with that Roiben
ends up saving Kaye from begin sacrificed for the Tithe. When he saves Kaye, she says, Roiben had
known all along what he was offering her his life, (227) During the sacrifice when the Unseelie court
Queen began the ceremony he whispered to Kaye What is your but they use it more than you, telling
Kaye she had to command him with his full name. Here he scarified himself to her even if it meant to

Poisonwood Bible Analysis
The beginning of The Poisonwood Bible immediately informs the reader that this story is not going to
be like any other story the reader is going to read. The beginning gives the reader curiosity because it s
bold and is unusual to any other narrative beginning. It allows the reader to get a sense of what the
setting will be for this book and informs the reader that when reading he or she should pay close
attention. Things like what and why things are occurring and how the characters are dealing with those
situations. This beginning tells the reader that the environment will play in the lives of the characters
and somewhat alludes that this environment will create problems. I believe the you that Orleanna is
speaking to could possibly be the reader because the things she states when she does say you are direct
questions. It is almost like she is having a direct conversation. It seems more likely to be the reader
since she is one of the main characters and the reader is the one learning about her story and what she
went through. However, this is only a prediction and could later turnout to be anyone within the story,
but her children. It can be anyone but her children because if she is speaking to them she would most
likely state their names instead of saying you. During the beginning chapter, Orleanna casually alludes
to to disasters that will occur within the story. She informs that her and her children will suffer from
hunger, for she states that they have are

The Steam Engine Essay
In the never ending search for energy sources, the invention of the steam engine changed the face of
the earth. (Siegel, Preface) The steam engine was the principal power source during the British
Industrial Revolution in the 18th century. The steam engine opened a whole new world to everyone.
The steam engine maximized production, efficiency, reliability, minimized time, the amount of labor,
and the usage of animals. The steam engine in all revolutionized the Eastern Hemisphere, mainly
European society. What does revolutionize actually mean? It means that something such as the steam
engine brought about a radical change in something, and this something is the European Society. The
steam engine specifically brought about a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The steel industry was also revolutionized through the use of the steam engine. Steel, smelted from
iron, was beaten, rolled or shaped on steam powered machines. This steel became very cheap, and was
able to be used for the railroad tracks, and also used later on in construction. (Gordon). Without the
steal to be shaped so fast by the steam engines, countries couldn t have expanded its trade and travel
the way it did. It is also said that, The water works and, in many cases, the canals could not exist
without steam power, for their very existence depended upon the regular raising of large quantities of
water to high levels. Steam was the only power that made this possible. (The Penetration of the
Industry by steam power) Without the steam engine, these factories, mills, agricultural advances, and
other industries could not have been revolutionized in the way they were.
The steam engine used in means of travel revolutionized the transportation of goods, as well as the
importing and exporting of them. The steam powered railroad changed geography and history. When
grain merchants transported their goods by horsepower, they could go only so far before the horse
consumed more than it could carry. (Gordon) In this aspect, the steam engine in railroads allowed
people to import and export their goods on a faster, more reliable, source. Another major effect of the
steam engine on society

Structural Factors Of Homelessness
Homelessness: Individual and Structural Factors Influencing This Wicked Problem According to
recent research, homelessness affects between 150,000 and 300,000 Canadians a year (Cherner et al.
2017, 219; Gandermann et al. 2014, 341; Piat et al. 2015, 2367). This increase in homelessness began
in the 1980 s following economic changes as well as shifts in government policy that lead to a
reduction in supports for low income families as well as a decrease in affordable housing available
across Canada (Gaetz 2010, 21; Piat et al. 2015, 2367). Though proving a national problem, a concrete
solution for homelessness does not exist, making it a wicked problem seemingly impossible to solve.
Homelessness continues to present itself as a multifaceted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in order to eliminate homelessness as a crisis in Canada, these individual factors must be
analyzed alongside the structural influences that lead to homelessness. According to the literature,
structural risk factors that contribute to homelessness are: transitioning from an institutional placement
into the community, social policies such as a lack of affordable housing and the dismantling of
national housing strategy, transferring the responsibility from federal to provincial governments, and
discrimination (Gaetz 2010, 22; Piat et al. 2015, 2368). By acknowledging these structural risk factors
as contributing alongside individual factors, a social ecological viewpoint proves effective in
preventing homelessness (Piat et al., 2379). As the literature suggests, the social ecological perspective
provides a lens for understanding homelessness in Canada as a complex social issue that warrants a
coordinated response across sectors, levels of government, and society (Piat et al., 2380). By
considering the issue of homelessness across all levels of society, we are better prepared to formulate a
proper and effective solution towards the national

Asses the Extent to Which the Ideal of Equality Is Shared...
Assess the extent to which the ideal of equality is shared by all Australians
The idea of mateship and the trendy notion of a fair go for all emphasises the strength of Australian
support for the value of equality of opportunity, the ideal goal of all Australians having equal
opportunity to achieve success. Notions of Egalitarianism are what Australia strives to accomplish
within its society, through the implementing and practicing of legislations such as Anti Discrimination
Act (1997), Sex Discrimination Act (1954) and Racial Discrimination Act (1975) which were
established in order to conclude unfair treatment based on people s looks, beliefs or choices. Human

Only recently, the Australian Government introduced reforms to de facto relationships. This meant
that same sex couples are entitled to the same benefits and subject to the same obligations as opposite
sex couples (Property Relationships Act 1984 NSW). The legislation of Same Sex Relationships
(Equal Treatment in Commonwealth Laws General Law Reform) Act 2008 removed discriminatory
treatment of same sex couples. These acts included laws about tax, superannuation, Medicare, workers
compensations, employment entitlements and family law. Homosexuals are discriminated against in
terms of marriage, donating blood and are also victims to abuse due to their status. A study conducted
by the Victorian Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby revealed that 84% of participants aged between 14
and 21 had been treated unfairly because of their sexuality and almost half had suffered verbal or
physical abuse. With these inequalities present, it is difficult to achieve equality and fairness around
this group. Although Australia proposes the ideal of egalitarianism, it is hard to justify whether it is
present or not. The ideal goal and desire which Australia values within its diverse hybrid society is
that Australia is a lucky country , priding itself of mateship and equal opportunity which establishes
Australia s nation identity. However with conflict and discrimination against groups such as Muslim

Abstract
As the days go by the technology of the world advances too. We sit back as people present to us these
new inventions to improve our environment. Do you ever think back the materials and supplies you
use for your personal needs? Over consumption of natural resources is huge problem in our world.
With the new technological advances there are alternative ways to meet these needs. As I sit in my
environmental science class, we discuss what natural resources are being over consumed not for our
needs anymore, but for our wants. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our consumption patterns can be measured by our social status and acceptance. The bigger the
pressures upon a person to conform to safe and accepted social standards, the more they end up
expressing their aspirations and their individuality in terms of what they wear, drive, eats, what they
call home, their pattern of food serving, their hobbies . My invention is a bracelet that one wears on a
daily basis that keeps tracks of the consumption of natural resources. This monitoring bracelet will
help many become aware of the over use of natural resources that they use in their everyday lives that
they do not need. For example we use a calorimeter, multi meter, gas chromatograph and mass
spectrometer. Each of these measure a different natural resource.
As you look around where you are sitting, think about how many do not recycle at home and how
many leave the water running while they brush their teeth. Over consumption of natural resources do
not come into mind when you are using the significant resources that are slowly being unavailable to
us. In California, the third largest state of the United States of America, we have been in a drought for
four or more years, although government has made announcements, sent out notices, set
laws/restrictions, and made commercials to show on television. The state of California is over

no established way to handle such a request. Every courthouse will handle this request the way it

Newsboys In The 1800 s
Despite the major setback of being part of the youth population in the late 1800 s, the Newsboys
fought the authorities for the sole purpose of understanding what they deserved, as well as any child
within the labor force. On July 20th, 1899, the start of one of the most powerful strikes in history

time, the Newsies proved they weren t budging in their stance. Through holding their ground and
unmasking their will and determination, the companies gave into their requests and even left a

The road to fair and equal child labor laws was definitely not an easy one, nor was it a quick one.

Structural Functionalism In The Animated Film Inside Out
The 2015 Disney Pixar animated film Inside Out is the story of an 11 year old girl named Riley and
the personified emotions that shape and control her personality. The movie is a wonderful example of
the functional analysis theoretical perspective of sociology, also known as structural functionalism or,
simply, functionalism, in that it illustrates a society (in this case, the young girl Riley) can maintain
equilibrium only when its component parts (the emotions/characters of Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust,
and Anger) are each present and fulfilling their assigned functions. At the beginning of the film, Riley
and her parents live in Minnesota, where she has friends, enjoys her school, is a valued member of an
ice hockey team, and has an all around happy life. The movie s introduction depicts a typical day of
Riley s life in Minnesota, during which all five of the emotion characters properly fulfill their
functions and leave Riley in a normal state. Joy provides happiness for the young girl. Sadness
provides Riley moments of comfort from her parents and emotional bonding between Riley and her
parents. Fear keeps her from hurting herself by prompting a cautionary response. Likewise, Disgust
and Anger fulfill their intended, beneficial roles, thereby fulfilling their manifest functions. At the end
of the day, Joy congratulates her counterparts, telling them, Nice job, everybody. Another perfect day.
As the story progresses, Riley and her family move from Minnesota to San Francisco, where Riley
experiences culture shock. She and her family find their home to be more than a bit worn and dismal.
To make matters worse, their furniture has become lost in the cross country move, and Riley s father is
experiencing stress and anxiety in his job at a startup firm. Riley is uncomfortable at her new school
and in her new social environment as a whole. Riley s mother urges her to keep smiling, stay happy,
and be there for her father. At first the emotions are able work together, keeping Riley in harmony.
However, Sadness begins to cloud Riley s memories and feelings and override her balanced
personality. She tells Joy, Something s wrong with me. I think I m having a breakdown. Joy attempts

The Effect Of Different Stretching Techniques On Myosin Actin
The Effects of Different Stretching Techniques on Myosin and Actin Fibers and How it Affects
Athletic Performance
Actin and myosin filaments can be found in skeletal muscle and are the smallest units that form a
sarcomere, which is the smallest contractile unit in muscle (Baechle, 2008). The Sliding Filament
Theory states that the actin filaments slide inward on the myosin filaments, pulling on the boundaries
of the sarcomere, causing it to shorten the muscle fiber, also known as a concentric muscular
contraction (Baechle, 2008). The Sliding Filament Theory is composed of five steps: the Resting
Phase , the Excitation Contraction Coupling Phase , the Contraction Phase , the Recharge Phase , and
the Relaxation Phase (Baechle, 2008). During the Resting Phase, the actin and myosin filaments are
lined up with no cross bridge binding of the two filaments. During the Excitation Contraction
Coupling Phase, Calcium is released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum and binds to troponin, causing a
shift in tropomyosin where the binding cites are exposed (Baechle, 2008). When the binding cites are
exposed, the myosin cross bridge head attaches to actin. During the Contraction Phase, ATP bonds
break, releasing energy that is used to allow the myosin head to flex, causing the actin filaments to
move toward the M bridge. During the Recharge Phase, there is a continuous repetition of the
Excitation Contraction Coupling Phase and the Contraction Phase in order to produce muscular

Abstract. Using A Variety Of Peer-Reviewed Sources, This
Abstract
Using a variety of peer reviewed sources, this paper will focus on the problems in the United States
healthcare system and its relation to children s access to healthcare. Despite efforts, there are several
aspects in the current healthcare system that cause children to not have access to healthcare. In other
cases the children may be eligible for health insurance but do not have insurance. This paper will
analyze the disparities surrounding children s healthcare, the socioeconomic aspects of it, and other
factors that cause a lack of access to healthcare.
Over the years healthcare has remained an issue in everyday society, especially in getting it so that
everyone has access to it. Different people of varying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CHIP emerged from a budget negotiation between a Democratic president and Republican Congress.
As such, the program represents a fine balance, designed to maintain equilibrium between states and
the federal government, as well as between political conservatives and liberals. It contains elements of
both an entitlement program and a block grant. States have the option of providing child health
assistance in SCHIP through Medicaid, a separate program, or a combination of the two. There is also
flexibility in benefit design, though benefits must meet certain set standards. As in Medicaid, state
payments for child health assistance under SCHIP qualify for federal matching payments. On average,
the federal government pays 70 percent and state governments pay 30 percent of program costs.
Unlike Medicaid, however, these enhanced federal matching payments are limited by national and
state specific allotments, or annual limits on federal funding. SCHIP has a system to redistribute
federal allotments from states that did not spend the full amount to others that may need higher
amounts. States may use up to 10 percent of their annual allotments on outreach, administration, and
other activities.
A federally funded evaluation found SCHIP to be successful in nearly all of the areas examined. Since
inception in 1997, enrollment has increased steadily to 6.1 million children in FY 2005. This was
complemented by a 6.8

Effects Of The Great Northern War
Great Northern War: The Clash between Two Titans
European history has been filled with war, but none has caused quite the damage like the Northern
Wars. The Northern Wars were a series of campaigns during the 16th century throughout the 18th
century that would leave devastation in the northern regions of Europe. Throughout the series of wars
that contributed to the mass destruction of property and wealth, none could be comparable to the
destruction that the Great Northern war caused. During the beginning of the 18th century, 1700 1721,
the Great Northern War engulfed Europe into a time of war and destruction. The result would cause an
immense shift of power within the European nations. The result would cause the prevention of

The short terms affect of the Great Northern War on the nations that were involved were mostly
territorial changes as well as the shift of power. After the war, Sweden lost much of its territory and
ended its era as one of the most powerful nations in Europe. Russia, the Commonwealth and Denmark
would all gain new territories that they desired both in the Baltic region and Estonia. After Sweden
was defeated, Russia rose as one of Europe s most power nation. Although the short term impacts
were important, there were also long term impacts that would forever change and affect the course
these nations would follow. The destruction caused during the duration of the war forced Sweden to
go into a state of recovery which would take decades to centuries to recover. This would and prevent
Sweden from becoming a major superpower in Europe as well as slow down its advancement and
development to a point that would put it at a disadvantage to other nations. The nations that gained
from this war would enter a golden age of rapid development and growth. Russia, under the rule of
Peter the Great, would enter a golden age that allowed cultural expansion, prosperity through trade
and rapid technological advancement. The legacy that the Great Northern War left behind would be
the influence of the Russian Empire on Europe. The European nations would be exposed to Russia
which made Peter s dream of

Career And Interest Self-Assessment Results
Self Assessment I. Career and Interest Self assessment Results This self assessment test was
something that narrowed down possible interest and helped the participants open their mind to new
careers. In fact when I finished my test I was able to view the different careers that feel in my interest
category. Taking a survey and calculating the different likes each field had accumulated determined
my test outcome. After gathering the likes that had accumulated I was able to determine which
inventory category was strongest. My top inventory was conventional which states, I am one who
likes to follow set rules and procedures, and prefers detail and clear lines of authority (Self
Assessment, n.d.). My second strongest inventory category was Social, which states, I like work
activities that promote learning and development (Self Assessment, n.d.). Not only did I learn what my
strongest inventory was I also had the ability to learn which jobs fell under those categories. Out of
each category within the level 5 education requirement, I had one job that stood out over the others;
category one conventional had Math Professor. This job is something that would be interesting, but I
am not sure if I would want this job as a career. The social category had one job that also caught my
eye, health educator. After all the research and looking at each one of the categories and the possible
job opportunities I have come to the realization that the test are estimates. I personally do not think

Essay on Images of Women in Sports
Images of Women in Sports
Over the years the perception of women in sport has changed considerably. In this course we have
viewed several films all dealing with the depiction of female athletes in an attempt to gauge society s
current perception of women in sport. I will briefly summarize each film and the main themes of the
films before providing a description of the female athlete which I will infer from commonalities
between the films.
The first film we watched was a documentary entitled, Dare to Compete; it provided a brief history of
women in film, focusing primarily on American women in sport from the late 19th century to the
present. From this film we gained a notion of where women have been and how far we ve come in the

The third film we watched was, Remember the Titans. Remember the Titans, traces the racial
integration of a Virginian high school football team in the 1960 s as well as the racial integration of
the high school. While this film is about a male football team and women are minor characters within
the film it shows how sport can unite people from different racial and socioeconomic backgrounds
The fourth film we watched was, Girlfight; a film about a Latina who lives in the ghetto and becomes
a boxer. The protagonist s struggle to be taken seriously as a female boxer, to find people who will
train her and compete with her is one of the major themes of this film. However, this film examines
not only the protagonist s role as an athlete, but her home life, love interest and inner turmoil as she
learns to control and focus her aggressive personality.
The fifth and final film we watched was, Love and Basketball, a film that primarily traces the coming
of age of a man and a woman, two childhood friends and basketball fanatics who both pursue
professional careers in basketball while focusing primarily on the female protagonist. The main
conflict in this film had less to do with the female protagonist struggling for approval from her parents
and acceptance by society than any of the other films we ve seen in this class. Instead, it dealt with the
female protagonist s need to evaluate her priorities and decide what she wanted and how to divide

Dna Replication And The Cell Cycle
Have you ever fell while riding a bicycle? Bobby was riding on his bike down a slope hill when he
suddenly loses control of the bike and runs into a tree. Ow! Bobby falls down his bike and onto the
ground, scraping his knee. About a week later, Bobby s skin is pretty much healed up. How? How did
Bobby s wound heal?
When you get a cut in your skin, your skin cells divide to replace the ones that died from the injury.
An important part of the division of cells is DNA replication. Without DNA replication, the new cells
wouldn t have DNA. So why is DNA so important? DNA is the basic blueprint of life, and it serves to
tell the cells what to do, and what proteins to code for. Let s take a deeper look into Bobby s cell to see
what fascinating events happens during DNA replication.
DNA Replication The Cell Cycle
Before Bobby s cells enter the the stage of mitosis to divide, it goes through DNA replication. This
process occurs in the nucleus of the cell during the S phase of the interphase of the cell cycle. The
process of DNA replication is important in that it is the instruction manual found in every cell that
serves to regulate your body and its functions. For example, if tells your cells which proteins to code
for.
DNA is replicated so that it can be passed into the daughter cells at the end of mitosis.
Replication Forks and Bubbles
First, let s understand where DNA replication is happening along the DNA. The whole region of
unwound DNA is called the

The nature of the good life from a philosophical point of view is not as simple as the typical picture
that may pop into one s head of lying on a beach in a tropical paradise sipping frozen daiquiris.
Depending on which type of ethical model you use will change the picture. For Thucydides his view
point seems to be that Might is Right versus Plato s Might for Right as well as a search for what is
right. Another way to differentiate the two would be to say one is for what I have the right to do and
that makes it right verses what is the right thing to do and what makes it right.
To determine whether the claims that Thucydides is making are ... Show more content on

He is clearly stating that one plus one is two. If we (the Athenians) attack, the Spartans are not going
to help you because based on our observations they are more about serving their interests than yours
(the Melians). Thucydides, further illustrates this by proving the Athenians were right in their
calculations of the situation. His story is not only empirical, they are a direct attack on normative
ethics. The Melians believed they knew what was right and that the Spartans would come to their aid
because they believed it was the right thing to do. But they were proven to be incorrect, supporting the
idea that this story was not only empirical but a disagreement in the validity of normative ethics.
Plato however I believe would have been on the side of the Melians in Thucydides story. Interestingly
enough Socrates would have died just as he does in his own story The Apology of placing all his
beliefs in normative ethics. In Plato s The Apology he begins his tale with a blatant normative
argument. He states that the Athenians assigned Socrates a post during a battle and that he stood his
ground and did not leave because he believed it was the right thing to do. By definition normative
ethics are ethics based on values. There is no way to measure values. Unlike a math equation there is
no right or wrong answer. What I believe to be true and just is not the same for all others. Plato goes

The Importance Of Inter-Professional And Inter-Agency...
The term inter professional and inter agency collaboration (IPIAC) was developed by Whittington et
al (2009) to convey the importance of collaboration at professional and agency level.
https://www.basw.co.uk/resources/tcsw/CG%20 %20Interprofessional%20collaboration.pdf This term
helps to identify how the services and professionals can work effectively together, including working
with service users and carers.
The PCF emphasises the importance of learning about inter professional work practice as it is essential
component of good social work practice.
https://www.basw.co.uk/resources/tcsw/CG%20 %20Interprofessional%20collaboration.pdf
IPIAC develops an integrated approach to the organisation and delivery of services reducing
inequalities and social exclusions, helping to reduce the barriers for working together (Quinne). There
are some examples of IPIAC such as Youth Offending Teams which are part of the local council and
work with the police, probation officers, health, housing and children services, schools and education
authorities, charities and the local community trying to help young people to stay away from crime.

In this essay I will talk about why the collaboration is important in social work practice and how the
preparation for the Assessment 1 has contributed to my learning.

Diction, Symbolism, And Imagery In Robinson s Richard Cory
The Grass is Always Greener on the Other Side:
Diction, Symbolism and Imagery in Robinson s Richard Cory Oftentimes in poetry, something that
appears simple is, in fact, very complex upon deeper evaluation. Edwin Arlington Robinson does
exactly this in his poem, Richard Cory, by creating an accessible poem that can then be picked apart to
reveal a deeper meaning. Upon first glance, the poem appears to be an interesting narrative about the
idolization of a rich aristocrat from the perspective of a poor commoner with whom he interacts.
However, upon closer evaluation, a different meaning can be discovered; the idea that desirable
situations often contain negative attributes that people are unaware of or overlook. This is achieved
through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the phrase fluttering pulses could mean the townspeople being nervous in his present or
could be seen as a symbol to represent romantic interests (159). Another symbol appears in the line,
He was a gentleman from sole to crown (158). The word crown has two meanings in this usage (158).
The most apparent definition is that it is the top of his head; however, symbolically it is a reference to
a king. Thus, drawing this parallel emphasizes the status that Richard Cory holds within their
community. Using the word crown also leads to many inferences on the speaker s opinion of Cory,
without them actually having to be stated (158). The stereotypical image of a king is that of someone
who is regal, rich, kind, fair and more, which is all indicated within that one word. A third symbol is
the analogies to meat and bread in the last stanza. In this the speaker is making a statement about
socioeconomic classes, but in a more eloquent way. Bread is a euphemism for being poor, because it is
all that they could afford to eat. The word bread also references the Roman idea of panem et circenses,
or bread and circuses. This phrase indicates the idea that as long as the poor are fed and entertained,
they will remain in their impoverished state. The speaker curses the bread because that is all that he
can afford to eat, but does nothing more drastic, because he is not going hungry and his situation could
be much worse (159). Meanwhile, having the ability to eat meat was a sign of status, because it meant
you had enough money to buy more expensive food. This comparison of bread and meat highlights the
speaker s longing for the things that he does not have, the meat, without appreciating the fact that at
least he can afford to eat bread. It also indicates that he is only thinking about Richard Cory in the
shallowest way possible, what he can buy, rather than who

The Effect Of Western Culture
Article Summary This article is focused on the effects of western culture, particularly the modern
ideals of ultra thin bodies, on non western women. The author, Jaita Talukdar, decided to spend some
time in India in order to conduct research on the topic. During her stay, she discovered many different
things about these Indian women, including what motivates them to want to lose weight, their opinion
on the current standards of beauty in western culture, and how these ideals have become ingrained into
their culture. Talukdar touched base on the existing research by Suzanne Brenner regarding beauty
standards in non western cultures, such as the idea of an in between mindset the ability of a person to
actively participate in both traditional and modern worlds and alternative modernity which centers on
the internal conflict to apply modernity while still conforming to the rules of tradition (Talukdar 112).
These concepts were the starting point for her investigation, influencing the questions that she chose
to ask. Alternative modernity was what inspired her theory of speculative modernity, in which a
woman critiques both the traditional and modern ways before applying them to her life. Previous
researchers like Hesse Biber chose to focus on how the western pageant circuit and the beauty
industry brought these ideals into India, following the loosening of the strict traditions that came with
the globalization of the country in the twentieth century. However, these

  • 2. Difference Between African American English Diverging From... African American English is diverging from Standard American English. As shown in Do You Speak American (2005), AAE originates from the time of the trans Atlantic slave trade. English was introduced to trade ports in Africa by colonialists, resulting in the creation of pidgin a mixture of English and African languages that is still in use today. More recently, African Americans who have moved from the South to the North have been more segregated, creating greater divergence between AAE and SAE. As many African Americans maintain ties to the South, such as continued contact with friends or family in the south, similarities between AAE and southern dialects remain. However, each group have selected features that are important, such as maintaining r in the North or keeping certain features as a way of preserving history, resulting in different dialect patterns between the North and the South to develop. It is arguable that African American English is a dialect of contemporary American English. While AAE is different and is easily distinguishable from Standard American English, the two dialects still share similarities and are forms of vernacular English. As AAE stems from and shares many linguistic patterns with Creole and other African languages, it is possible to argue that AAE is in fact not related to contemporary American English at all. However, I feel that the different influences on language are simple markers of regional variation and not enough to fully ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Is Ancient Egypt Different From Our Culture Did you know that the Egyptians kids were naked untill they were six years old? If you are six years old or younger you would be naked right now if you lived in the Ancient Egypt time. The Egyptians had many different cultures than us. Clothings, jewelry, makeup, and etc. are some examples that were different than our culture. Clothing is very different than us. Most of the men in working classes wore either loincloth or short kilt and sometimes a type of shirt. Women wore straight dresses with one or two straps. Animal skins, above all leopard skins, worn by priests and by pharaohs. At times Kings and Queens wore ceremonial clothing adorned with feathers. Another example is the jewelry. Specific materials, colours, and designs were often associated with certain gods or goddesses or magical qualities of protection. Any changes to these could affect the spiritual value of the items. Everyone wore jewelry in Ancient Egypt, from poor farmers to wethly royals. For the wealthy, pieces were made from semi precious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Egyptians appeared to care a great deal about the way they looked. Pharaohs had their own hairdressers and manicurists and cosmetics was big business. Archaeologists have unearthed mirrors, hair pins, makeup containers, brushes and other items. On special occasions ancient Egyptians wore greasy cones of fragrance on their head that melted in the heat and dripped perfume on their wigs. To decorate their eyes, the Ancient Egyptians used black and green paints. The black paint was derived from powdered galena (now known as kohl) and it was supposed to protect eyes from the hot sun. The green paint was derived from malachite powder (a green coloured mineral) and was used because it would make eyes appear larger. In addition, green paint was believed to invoke the eye of Horus, the god of The Sky Sun and also of healing. For this reason, the Egyptians thought green paint would protect those who wore ... • 4. Individualism in The Fountainhead Essay Individualism in The Fountainhead Individualism, the doctrine of free thought and action of the individual, forms the basis of Ayn Rand s novel The Fountainhead. The major theme of her fiction is the primacy of the individual, the unique and precious individual life. That which sustains and enriches life is good, that which negates and impoverishes the individual s pursuit of happiness is evil. The Fountainhead is Rand s fullest explication of the primacy of the individual. As she worked out her interpretation of the inalienable rights: the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; and what these entailed, she saw three areas of conflict where these rights were held in balance. The Three Antipodes: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He tries to explain to people that ...An honest building, like an honest man had to be one piece and one faith; what constituted the life source...... and why if one small part committed treason to that idea, the thing or the creature was dead .... and why the high and the noble on earth was only that which kept it s integrity. Henry Cameron, Roark s mentor both in work and principles had been very successful, but had gradually faded away into oblivion. He did not give in to others demands on him and worshipped and believed in the heroic in man....... he wished to build as he wished, and for that reason only. For him Gail Wynand represented everything that s wrong with the world. Peter Keating, a successful young architect, Roark s senior, possesses a modicum of talent but guides his life by pursuing what other people want of him. Though openly successful he is actually a bundle of anxieties. This he tries to obscure by amassing wealth and following proper public opinions. In all his major works, it was Roark who provided him with ideas. When he achieves everything he should want, he doesn t understand the hollowness of it all. He can never be satisfied because he has never gone after what he wants. He is a parasite, a second hander as Roark calls him; incapable of self direction. Ellsworth Monkton Toohey again is a second hander but of a worse kind than Peter Keating. He preaches self abnegation, self sacrifice, and self surrender as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach the complete works Carl Phillip Emanuel Bach the complete works This is the volume I of the Series II. It includes sixteen sonatas. Only one of them is unaccmpaniment flute sonata, other fifteen pieces are wind and string instruments and basso continuo. Excepts the manuscripts and the scores, this volume also contains three useful sections which are an introduction, Abbreviations, and the critical report. The critical report is located on the page one hundred and twenty seven to page one hundred and forty six. First of all, the author described the detailed information about the composed years and historic background. Even some of the pieces is hard to track the composed year, but the author still tried to find out the evidences to figure out the years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The other section of the commentary report is the commentary of the scores which are collected in this book. The commentary is arranged in a really standard form, and the comments on performance are quite helpful to the performers. For instance, the commentary of Sonanta in B flat Major for Flute and Basso Continu, Wq,125 is located from the page one hundred and thirty six to page one hundred and thirty seven. In the commentary, it mainly shows the measure numbers, part of the voice, and remarks. For Measure number, it used the number to mark each specific measure. In the part of the voice, fl means the voice of the flute, and b.c. means the voice of the basso continuo. In the section of remarks, it contains very detailed comments on the performance. Even it points out the version that it follows. As I have tried out all the comments on this piece, I found that the changes make music sound more interesting and artistic. For instance, the Sonata in B flat major for flute and Basso continuous second movement Allegro. In the third measure, it suggests the note 2 changed from F to A. After this changing, the melody of flute sounds more interesting. In the measure six, it suggests moving the slur from notes 3 4 for notes 2 4. That lets the melody skip a minor third and sounds more stable in the beginning section than the original one. In the measure twenty seven, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Reflection On The Stamp Act Of 1765 Today, I sat down with my family at our home in Boston, and we had a very interesting conversation about the most recent actions of the British Parliament that is hurting all of the colonists, their families, and communities that we live in. Of course, I am talking about the Stamp Act of 1765. At first, I thought I was the only person in our family who paid any attention to the political events and unfair actions of good old mother England. I was a little nervous about how our family was going to react when I told them that I had just signed up to be a member of the Sons of Liberty. My family was very interested in what the Sons of Liberty were going to do to help the colonists in the fight against what all colonists see as unfair taxation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The colonist argued to the king that the representatives should be the only ones to tax the colonist. They thought it wasn t fair and started using the phrase taxation without representation . Which meant that the colonist wanted a say in whether the taxes should be balanced or not. In my opinion, I believe that it wasn t fair and the British should let us have a say. Which everybody believes that too probably. After the declaring of the stamp act, The Patriots formed a group of protesters known as the Sons of Liberty. Who fought for the other colonists. The leader of these protesters were the one and only, Samuel Adams. These protesters used many the different methods, but the one that stood out was the method of intimidation to get tax collectors to resign from their job. this method worked really well for the Sons of Liberty. This is one of the many phenomenal reasons that the Sons of Liberty were an import role in the American revolution. In the year of 1766, a group of protesters known as the Stamp Act congress started meeting in the great and wonderful City of New York City. The dates of the meeting were the month of October 7 until October 23, 1765. In result of this act of the Stamp Act Congress, The British repealed on the date of, March 18,1766. Which caused the act to have no more play on the colonists. Now the Americans have the freedom of the possession of paper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Poisonwood Bible Analysis The beginning of The Poisonwood Bible immediately informs the reader that this story is not going to be like any other story the reader is going to read. The beginning gives the reader curiosity because it s bold and is unusual to any other narrative beginning. It allows the reader to get a sense of what the setting will be for this book and informs the reader that when reading he or she should pay close attention. Things like what and why things are occurring and how the characters are dealing with those situations. This beginning tells the reader that the environment will play in the lives of the characters and somewhat alludes that this environment will create problems. I believe the you that Orleanna is speaking to could possibly be the reader because the things she states when she does say you are direct questions. It is almost like she is having a direct conversation. It seems more likely to be the reader since she is one of the main characters and the reader is the one learning about her story and what she went through. However, this is only a prediction and could later turnout to be anyone within the story, but her children. It can be anyone but her children because if she is speaking to them she would most likely state their names instead of saying you. • 9. The Steam Engine Essay In the never ending search for energy sources, the invention of the steam engine changed the face of the earth. (Siegel, Preface) The steam engine was the principal power source during the British Industrial Revolution in the 18th century. The steam engine opened a whole new world to everyone. The steam engine maximized production, efficiency, reliability, minimized time, the amount of labor, and the usage of animals. The steam engine in all revolutionized the Eastern Hemisphere, mainly European society. What does revolutionize actually mean? It means that something such as the steam engine brought about a radical change in something, and this something is the European Society. The steam engine specifically brought about a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The steel industry was also revolutionized through the use of the steam engine. Steel, smelted from iron, was beaten, rolled or shaped on steam powered machines. This steel became very cheap, and was able to be used for the railroad tracks, and also used later on in construction. (Gordon). Without the steal to be shaped so fast by the steam engines, countries couldn t have expanded its trade and travel the way it did. It is also said that, The water works and, in many cases, the canals could not exist without steam power, for their very existence depended upon the regular raising of large quantities of water to high levels. Steam was the only power that made this possible. (The Penetration of the Industry by steam power) Without the steam engine, these factories, mills, agricultural advances, and other industries could not have been revolutionized in the way they were. The steam engine used in means of travel revolutionized the transportation of goods, as well as the importing and exporting of them. The steam powered railroad changed geography and history. When grain merchants transported their goods by horsepower, they could go only so far before the horse consumed more than it could carry. (Gordon) In this aspect, the steam engine in railroads allowed people to import and export their goods on a faster, more reliable, source. Another major effect of the steam engine on society ... • 10. Structural Factors Of Homelessness Homelessness: Individual and Structural Factors Influencing This Wicked Problem According to recent research, homelessness affects between 150,000 and 300,000 Canadians a year (Cherner et al. 2017, 219; Gandermann et al. 2014, 341; Piat et al. 2015, 2367). This increase in homelessness began in the 1980 s following economic changes as well as shifts in government policy that lead to a reduction in supports for low income families as well as a decrease in affordable housing available across Canada (Gaetz 2010, 21; Piat et al. 2015, 2367). Though proving a national problem, a concrete solution for homelessness does not exist, making it a wicked problem seemingly impossible to solve. Homelessness continues to present itself as a multifaceted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in order to eliminate homelessness as a crisis in Canada, these individual factors must be analyzed alongside the structural influences that lead to homelessness. According to the literature, structural risk factors that contribute to homelessness are: transitioning from an institutional placement into the community, social policies such as a lack of affordable housing and the dismantling of national housing strategy, transferring the responsibility from federal to provincial governments, and discrimination (Gaetz 2010, 22; Piat et al. 2015, 2368). By acknowledging these structural risk factors as contributing alongside individual factors, a social ecological viewpoint proves effective in preventing homelessness (Piat et al., 2379). As the literature suggests, the social ecological perspective provides a lens for understanding homelessness in Canada as a complex social issue that warrants a coordinated response across sectors, levels of government, and society (Piat et al., 2380). Assess the extent to which the ideal of equality is shared by all Australians The idea of mateship and the trendy notion of a fair go for all emphasises the strength of Australian support for the value of equality of opportunity, the ideal goal of all Australians having equal opportunity to achieve success. Notions of Egalitarianism are what Australia strives to accomplish within its society, through the implementing and practicing of legislations such as Anti Discrimination Act (1997), Sex Discrimination Act (1954) and Racial Discrimination Act (1975) which were established in order to conclude unfair treatment based on people s looks, beliefs or choices. These acts included laws about tax, superannuation, Medicare, workers compensations, employment entitlements and family law. A study conducted by the Victorian Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby revealed that 84% of participants aged between 14 and 21 had been treated unfairly because of their sexuality and almost half had suffered verbal or physical abuse. With these inequalities present, it is difficult to achieve equality and fairness around this group. Although Australia proposes the ideal of egalitarianism, it is hard to justify whether it is present or not. We sit back as people present to us these new inventions to improve our environment. Do you ever think back the materials and supplies you use for your personal needs? Over consumption of natural resources is huge problem in our world. With the new technological advances there are alternative ways to meet these needs. As I sit in my environmental science class, we discuss what natural resources are being over consumed not for our needs anymore, but for our wants. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our consumption patterns can be measured by our social status and acceptance. The bigger the pressures upon a person to conform to safe and accepted social standards, the more they end up expressing their aspirations and their individuality in terms of what they wear, drive, eats, what they call home, their pattern of food serving, their hobbies . My invention is a bracelet that one wears on a daily basis that keeps tracks of the consumption of natural resources. This monitoring bracelet will help many become aware of the over use of natural resources that they use in their everyday lives that they do not need. For example we use a calorimeter, multi meter, gas chromatograph and mass spectrometer. Each of these measure a different natural resource. As you look around where you are sitting, think about how many do not recycle at home and how many leave the water running while they brush their teeth. Over consumption of natural resources do not come into mind when you are using the significant resources that are slowly being unavailable to us. • 16. Structural Functionalism In The Animated Film Inside Out The 2015 Disney Pixar animated film Inside Out is the story of an 11 year old girl named Riley and the personified emotions that shape and control her personality. The movie is a wonderful example of the functional analysis theoretical perspective of sociology, also known as structural functionalism or, simply, functionalism, in that it illustrates a society (in this case, the young girl Riley) can maintain equilibrium only when its component parts (the emotions/characters of Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger) are each present and fulfilling their assigned functions. At the beginning of the film, Riley and her parents live in Minnesota, where she has friends, enjoys her school, is a valued member of an ice hockey team, and has an all around happy life. The movie s introduction depicts a typical day of Riley s life in Minnesota, during which all five of the emotion characters properly fulfill their functions and leave Riley in a normal state. Joy provides happiness for the young girl. Sadness provides Riley moments of comfort from her parents and emotional bonding between Riley and her parents. Fear keeps her from hurting herself by prompting a cautionary response. Likewise, Disgust and Anger fulfill their intended, beneficial roles, thereby fulfilling their manifest functions. At the end of the day, Joy congratulates her counterparts, telling them, Nice job, everybody. Another perfect day. As the story progresses, Riley and her family move from Minnesota to San Francisco, where Riley experiences culture shock. She and her family find their home to be more than a bit worn and dismal. To make matters worse, their furniture has become lost in the cross country move, and Riley s father is experiencing stress and anxiety in his job at a startup firm. Riley is uncomfortable at her new school and in her new social environment as a whole. Riley s mother urges her to keep smiling, stay happy, and be there for her father. • 20. The Effect Of Different Stretching Techniques On Myosin Actin The Effects of Different Stretching Techniques on Myosin and Actin Fibers and How it Affects Athletic Performance Actin and myosin filaments can be found in skeletal muscle and are the smallest units that form a sarcomere, which is the smallest contractile unit in muscle (Baechle, 2008). The Sliding Filament Theory states that the actin filaments slide inward on the myosin filaments, pulling on the boundaries of the sarcomere, causing it to shorten the muscle fiber, also known as a concentric muscular contraction (Baechle, 2008). The Sliding Filament Theory is composed of five steps: the Resting Phase , the Excitation Contraction Coupling Phase , the Contraction Phase , the Recharge Phase , and the Relaxation Phase (Baechle, 2008). During the Resting Phase, the actin and myosin filaments are lined up with no cross bridge binding of the two filaments. During the Excitation Contraction Coupling Phase, Calcium is released from the sarcoplasmic reticulum and binds to troponin, causing a shift in tropomyosin where the binding cites are exposed (Baechle, 2008). When the binding cites are exposed, the myosin cross bridge head attaches to actin. During the Contraction Phase, ATP bonds break, releasing energy that is used to allow the myosin head to flex, causing the actin filaments to move toward the M bridge. During the Recharge Phase, there is a continuous repetition of the Excitation Contraction Coupling Phase and the Contraction Phase in order to produce muscular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

States have the option of providing child health assistance in SCHIP through Medicaid, a separate program, or a combination of the two. There is also flexibility in benefit design, though benefits must meet certain set standards. As in Medicaid, state payments for child health assistance under SCHIP qualify for federal matching payments. On average, the federal government pays 70 percent and state governments pay 30 percent of program costs. Unlike Medicaid, however, these enhanced federal matching payments are limited by national and state specific allotments, or annual limits on federal funding. SCHIP has a system to redistribute federal allotments from states that did not spend the full amount to others that may need higher amounts. States may use up to 10 percent of their annual allotments on outreach, administration, and other activities. Ow! Bobby falls down his bike and onto the ground, scraping his knee. About a week later, Bobby s skin is pretty much healed up. How? How did Bobby s wound heal? When you get a cut in your skin, your skin cells divide to replace the ones that died from the injury. An important part of the division of cells is DNA replication. Without DNA replication, the new cells wouldn t have DNA. So why is DNA so important? DNA is the basic blueprint of life, and it serves to tell the cells what to do, and what proteins to code for. DNA Replication The Cell Cycle Before Bobby s cells enter the the stage of mitosis to divide, it goes through DNA replication. The Melians believed they knew what was right and that the Spartans would come to their aid because they believed it was the right thing to do. But they were proven to be incorrect, supporting the idea that this story was not only empirical but a disagreement in the validity of normative ethics. Diction, Symbolism, And Imagery In Robinson s Richard Cory The Grass is Always Greener on the Other Side: Diction, Symbolism and Imagery in Robinson s Richard Cory Oftentimes in poetry, something that appears simple is, in fact, very complex upon deeper evaluation. Edwin Arlington Robinson does exactly this in his poem, Richard Cory, by creating an accessible poem that can then be picked apart to reveal a deeper meaning. Upon first glance, the poem appears to be an interesting narrative about the idolization of a rich aristocrat from the perspective of a poor commoner with whom he interacts. However, upon closer evaluation, a different meaning can be discovered; the idea that desirable situations often contain negative attributes that people are unaware of or overlook. This is achieved through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the phrase fluttering pulses could mean the townspeople being nervous in his present or could be seen as a symbol to represent romantic interests (159). Another symbol appears in the line, He was a gentleman from sole to crown (158). The word crown has two meanings in this usage (158). The most apparent definition is that it is the top of his head; however, symbolically it is a reference to a king. Thus, drawing this parallel emphasizes the status that Richard Cory holds within their community. Using the word crown also leads to many inferences on the speaker s opinion of Cory, without them actually having to be stated (158). The stereotypical image of a king is that of someone who is regal, rich, kind, fair and more, which is all indicated within that one word. A third symbol is the analogies to meat and bread in the last stanza. In this the speaker is making a statement about socioeconomic classes, but in a more eloquent way. Bread is a euphemism for being poor, because it is all that they could afford to eat. The word bread also references the Roman idea of panem et circenses, or bread and circuses. This phrase indicates the idea that as long as the poor are fed and entertained, they will remain in their impoverished state. The speaker curses the bread because that is all that he can afford to eat, but does nothing more drastic, because he is not going hungry and his situation could be much worse (159). Meanwhile, having the ability to eat meat was a sign of status, because it meant you had enough money to buy more expensive food.
