The New President Of The United States
Synopsis
In the article, the new president of the United States Donald Trump has made plans to temporarily
ban Muslims from entering this country. According to Huffington post, The reason behind Trump s
decision for the total shut down of Muslims entering the United States is until our country s
representatives can figure out what is going on (Goldberg, 2016). President Donald Trump
discussing his plan through the media has created a great opportunity for the radicalization of the
American Islamic population to become easier, which leads to the recruitment for Jihadist terror.
The appearance of Trump during his public speech on banning the Muslim culture has been used
for recruitment. In addition, a video of Al Shabaab Terror group... Show more content on

It is unconstitutional. The first amendment of the Bill of Rights says Congress shall make no law
respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. Trump s Muslim
ban is the prohibition of free exercise of religion under the guise of a national security threat. In
addition, I think that the 90 day ban will assist Islamic extremists in the recruitment of more
people for their organizations. Donald Trump is the perfect villain to add justification to the
terrorist cause as they take advantage of the people from the banned countries. The people are
desperate. Their homes and lives have been destroyed by decades of war that the United States has
had a significant role in starting (Clark, 2011). Now the same people are being denied refuge from
the same country that is partly responsible for their displacement.
Influence of New Media
According to the course text, new media is made of up devices and capabilities surrounding digital
and internet technology that are categorized by interactive social media and multimedia content
(Surette, 2015). Based on how new media is characterized, I think that the influence that new media

The United States Women s National Team
The United States women s national soccer team is being torn under discrimination and how they
are being treated as an individual. Throughout the years, the women have accomplished so much
more than the men, but yet are being paid less than what the men are making. They have
experienced rough conditions of the fields when they play their matches, which can lead to serious
career ending injuries. The women have had enough of this situation and they plan to bring this up
to the U.S Soccer Federation, they hope the men will stick up for them and help them fight for
their rights, the women hope to get rid of Astroturf altogether and quit playing their matches on it,
and has the federation been like this for a long time. So over the years of... Show more content on

The importance is to know how they feel about this situation, which can put in a different
perspective on how you were chosen to represent a country but get brought down because of gender
. It s our responsibility to know what s right and what s wrong in the federation and stick up for the
people being torn and brought down from discrimination. The U.S Soccer Federation is being
brought to attention and being investigated of the discrimination towards the women. For example,
The U.S Soccer Federation is a 501 nonprofit and the official governing body of the sport of soccer
in the United States. (Wikipedia1). This clearly demonstrates that the federation is in charge of the
soccer, and it is understood that they are more than capable of changing the discrimination between
the women and the men. The significance is that being the federation they have all of the power to
determine how much pay each national team gets, and only they can do what s right in this
situation. In addition, According to a budget report from the U.S Soccer Federation, the women s
team is projected to bring in more than $17 million in revenues, including a $5 million surplus for a
fiscal year 2017, nearly doubling their male counterparts. (Santhanam1). This quote can help the
women out by fighting with the federation on these statistics, showing

Military Drone Strikes Against Terrorism
Military Drone Strikes Against Terrorism It was the day February 4, 2002 in Afghanistan, the
day of the first authorized drone strike by the U.S. A CIA Predator drone prowled the skies in
search of prey. It was searching for a group that the CIA suspected to include Osama Bin Laden.
After some time, the group was located, and the Predator drone fired on the group, killing all of the
targets. After further insight, it was discovered that the targets, now all dead, were just civilians
gathering scrap metal ( Should the United ). Should drones be used for military strikes on terrorism?
This is an ongoing modern debate, which has very contrasting viewpoints. Drones are used in
military operations, usually in sudden aerial strikes aimed to quickly... Show more content on

When targets are disposed of through means of remote controlled drones, the U.S becomes
disconnected with the war itself. Drone Pilot Colonel D. Scott Brenton himself admitted that in
conducting drone strikes with just a screen and controls, he feels no connection or emotion for
the people he kills ( Should the United ). This should not be so. Through this, the U.S is able to
go to any measure and continue any conflict as it pleases with no remorse for the cost of human
lives. This further enables the U.S to disregard moral principles, at the cost of as many human
lives as the U.S pleases. War should have restrictions, and every life should be bargained and
reasoned with. With this disconnect though, the U.S uses as much force as it pleases in conflicts
that threaten their interest. This disconnect through drone strikes also allows the U.S not to
notice or care for how it is spreading to the general civilian life in the affected regions. According
to witnesses and researchers, drone strikes are harming local populations beyond death and
physical injury ( Should the United ). Many witness that the people in affected regions live in
constant fear of drone strikes, and are afraid to travel or participate in any sort of meeting. Many
incidents of local deaths and injuries due to these drone strikes plague the population, and many

Hamlet s Madness Is Less Than Madness And More Than Feigned
Charmaine Bowden Hancock
Honors English III
3rd Period
Dec. 17. 2015
Fact or Fake?
Hamlet s madness is less than madness and more than feigned . What is madness? Mad is a word
with such uncertainty that it can be stretched to mean an abundance of things more than just pure
psychological instability: a weariness of life; a suicidal impulse; a plotting charisma. In the play
Hamlet by William Shakespeare, a wild disagreement has been consequent for a series of years in
the case of the madness of Hamlet, the play s central narrative, was justifiable or feigned. As in
any decision, one must be given both sides of the controversy before making an impartial
conclusion. The case of Hamlet s madness is no exclusion. It is appropriate to say that Hamlet
may have remained sensible throughout the performance, especially in consideration of his rag
flashes of what seems to be psychological discipline and stability. However, Hamlet is perceived
as disoriented by overwhelming burst of hysteria after acquiring knowledge of his father s death,
news of Gertrude s quick remarriage, and Claudius becoming the new King. In the butt end it is up
to the scholar to determine for him or herself the psychological nature of Hamlet s madness, as it
may have been the motive of William Shakespeare, taking into review how open ended this subject
continued throughout the play.
With Hamlet s return to Denmark he is made aware of his father s death, Old King Hamlet. His
reaction to his father s death is

How to Insure Your Classic Motorcycle?
Your classic or custom motorcycle isn t standard. You ve put a lot of work into preserving it or

In agreed value insurance policies, you are in control of the amount your classic motorcycle is

based on the figure you and your insurance provider agreed to.
An agreed value policy reduces the risk of you not being able to rebuild or replace your classic

so much that he took on a business partner by the name of Frank Wright. In 1922 Allen and

gets fixed. If Apple didn t fix this, hackers can easily get into the Phone exposing all of your

people have now heard in the news about Apples new payment solution along with the fixed the

compare to other mobile payments methods?
Since this technology is so new, we first have to look at how it work by looking at what we do
know so far. Apple Pay s speaker, mentions that users will start off by entering their card into a
secure app called Passbook. Passbook is a secure app made by apple in which adds another security
layer to the iPhone. The apps purpose is to keep track of users: debit cards, credit cards, iTunes

The Controversy Of Learning A Second Language
Learning to speak another language other than English is a highly debated subject in regards to
education. Language in itself is an essential tool to everyday living, from whimsical conversations
to important business meetings. Words have the power to inspire and change the world, but not
everybody can understand the same words. There are hundreds of languages spoken around the
globe how do we know which to speak? We can t be certain. Therefore, it is not advantageous for
English speakers to learn another language, there are too many languages for one to be
exceptionally useful, and other countries are quickly learningEnglish. In Europe alone, 234 different
languages are spread across the tiny continent, much more than anybody could hope to learn
(Source B). There simply is not enough time to learn all 234 languages. Learning even the most
essential languages, that is the ones with the most speakers, would still not be able to fully capture
enough people to justify the commitment. Although, people may say that learning a new language is

students learn English as their second language (Source B). Why spend time learning another s
language while they already speak your own? There is no concrete justification. English is
already one of the most spoken languages around the world and it continues to grow
diminishing the value of other languages. Responses to this may include that while English is
very widespread the future of languages is unpredictable, English may not in fact become the
global language it aspires to be(Source F). Mandarin is a language spoken by many people, it s

The Negative Impact Of Industrialization On European Society
Impacts of Industrialization
Industrialization is the system in which a country goes from a primarily agricultural state into one
based on the manufacturing of goods and services. Industrialization began its immense impact
during the 18th century in Europe, where it was first introduced. Rapid industrialization brought
plentiful jobs and new products and services, but also created problems that were harmful to the
people. With the rise of industrialization, the society was able to rise to its standard of living.
However, the expansion of cities and factories did not have such a great effect. Throughout the
1700s and 1800s in Europe, industrialization had a negative impact on European society because it
created horrible living conditions, the work force and surroundings were appalling, and it damaged
the environment.

The Eastern Slope Of The Mingus Mountain
On the eastern slope of the Mingus Mountain in central Arizona sits the town of Jerome. Starting its
life as a mining town in the late 1800 s, Jerome, at one time, was known as the Wickedest Town in
the West. Between its bars, brothels, and gambling establishments, Jerome became one of the one
of the most accomplished locales in separating miners from their money.
With the dawn of the 1900 s, Jerome became more dignified with the establishment of churches,
schools, and businesses catering to its growing population. It even had its own post office and five
car dealerships. At its peak, Jerome boasted over 15,000 residents with 3000 miners employed in
the town.
By the 1950 s, the local mining industry had all but collapsed and the population dwindled to about
100 people. The perseverance of the remaining residents to prevent Jerome from becoming just
another ghost town, however, led to recognition of the town as a National Historic Site. Over the
next couple decades, Jerome went from being a downward spiraling, abandoned mining town to a
major central Arizona tourist destination.
Today, Jerome is a tourist mecca with numerous restaurants, galleries, winetasting rooms, and
unique shops. A literal Ghost Town aspect of Jerome exists today in the form of local supernatural
legends and ghost tours. With its proximity to Prescott, Sedona, Flagstaff, and Interstate 17 and its
unique shops and restaurants, Jerome is a must see destination when traveling in central Arizona.

Philosophical Travel Journal
I am writing this journal with the goal of recounting my travels to different philosophical societies.
Remarkably, each one of the three societies I was privileged enough to travel to r igidly followed a
renowned philosophy. These were the philosophies of Plato, Soren Kierkegaard, and Friedrich
Nietzsche.
The Republic
The first society I visited was that of Plato
s philosophy. The residents were very kind and sought out true meanings of different vi rtues solely
by dialectic. They structured their city much the same way that
Plato structured the renowned
Republic
. Plato said that a just city would involve each man doing his own work, or specializing in a certain
task. The cobbler would be a cobbler, the builder would be a builder, the farmer a farmer, and so on
an d so forth. Each of these focused on his work and in such a way maximized outpu t, as is
logical. The army protecting that city stood as a c ourageous wall around it, ready to defend it
whenever necessary. The soldiers
training was intense, focusing not only on physical exercise but also on the arts. By being brought
up with training both in the arts and in physical exercise,
Plato believed t hese soldiers would be both courageous and wise. Indeed, they were. The city was

How Did Napoleon Bonaparte Betray The French Revolution
Much like Genghis Khan and Niccolo Machiavelli, historians have had some difficulty deciding
whether Napoleon Bonaparte was a man to be feared or revered. However what we can be certain
of is that Napoleon betrayed the ideals of the French Revolution. Bonaparte achieved this by
removing political liberties, destroying social equality, and by engineering fraternity in Franceto be
submissive to only himself. Napoleon also betrayed the ideals of the French Revolution by
removing political liberties. He blatantly did this by crowning himself as the Emperor of France

Themes Of The Time Machine
Once in my basketball game, my team was losing by many points. However, we never gave up
and started to make a comeback. The crowd was getting louder as the final seconds approached.
There was 2 seconds left, and Julien Flores shot the ball. Swoosh. We had won the game because
we never gave up. Persevering through obstacles is the major theme in H.G. Wells novel titled, The
Time Machine. This novel is about a time traveler who traveled far into the future and encountered
strange humanoid creatures. The world was very different and another species called the Morlocks
had stolen his Time Machine. The Time Traveler persevered through this and he eventually got his
Time Machine back and he travelled back home.
An example of the main theme in The Time Machine being how you should persevere through
obstacles is found on page 104 and H.G. Wells states, So I came back. For a long time I must
have been insensible upon the machine. This evidence show show the main theme of the Time
Machine is that you should never give up because the Time Traveler has been trying to get home
for a long time and he never gave up. He was eventually able to get home and this shows how
since the time traveler was able to get home because he persevered, the main theme in the novel
is that you should never give up. Another piece of evidence that H.G. Wells includes is on page 1

However, sand is not the only material needed for making glass containers. Other materials are
also added to the process to help glass with its working properties at high temperatures and to
provide it with chemical resistance in use(Saint Gobain). In addition to new raw material, Saint
Gobain Containers is also a Green Company which uses as much recycled glass as possible.
Glass is one of the few packaging materials that can be recycled indefinitely (Saint Gobain).
Melting Glass melting is a HOT process. When melting glass a continuous heat of over 2500
degrees Fahrenheit is needed in order to obtain optimal quality. This is done by Saint Gobain
Containers by using reliable energy resources such as natural gas and occasionally fuel oil.
Being a Green Company includes using energy resources which provide low emissions. Natural
gas provides a low emissions level and thus is Saint Gobain Containers main source of heating
energy. This is also less expensive overall when compared to oil fuels. Other energy comes from
an electric boost which is used to operate machinery and air supplies for the heating sources. Using
efficient heating sources has been one of the leading factors in lowering the operating cost of Saint
Gobain Containers in the last two years.

Trader Joe Essay
According to the textbook, Trader Joe is not a gourmet food store or a discount food store.
Trader Joe actually specializes in selling gourmet food at a discounted price. This store is also a
cultural experience. Trader Joe sells luxury things such as Organic Creamy Valencia peanut
butter, cage free eggs, and more. All of these gourmet food that is generally sold for high prices
are generally given away almost little to nothing. In order to sustain itself in the market, Trader
Joe puts its own special twist on the food price value. Their price value slogan is cheap gourmet .
Also, Joe s price incentive attracts devoted customers who love what they purchase from the prices
they pay. So what concept does Trader Joe utilize?
Trader Joe utilizes the concept of marketing strategy, though the element of prices. According to
the textbook on page 299, before setting a price, the company must decide on its overall
marketing strategy for the products or service . In this case a company s overall strategy is built
around its price and value story (300). For Joe Trader s example, Joe stations its prices around
what they offer, and charge for the product. Instead of selling the exclusive Charles Shaw wine

Differences And Similarities Between English Language And...
For my research paper, I have chosen to explore the differences and similarities between the
English language and the German language. My interest in this subject area is mainly due to my
own nationality and roots in Germany. My grandma (or should I say meine omi), is from Gersfeld,
Germany and she immigrated to the United States during World War II. My research has conducted
many results that yield both similarities and differences between the languages. One of the most
prominent difference between the two languages is that German is spoken by about 95 million
people worldwide, and is the official language of Germany, Austria and parts of Switzerland
(Shoebottom, 1), meanwhile statistics show that English is the third most widespread native
language in the world, after Standard Chinese and Spanish. It is the most widely learned second
language and is either the official language or one of the official languages in almost 60 sovereign
states (Shoebottom, 1).
Contrary to this large disparity, according to Charles Russ, author of Historical German Phonology
and Morphology, English and German both belong to the Germanic branch of the Indo European
language family (1), this results in numerous similarities between the languages; including the
words: export, partner, blue jeans, computer, teenager, and jet (Garry and Rubino, 244). German
and English also share the same alphabet however, the German language includes the umlauted
letters: Г¤, Г¶, Гј, and the Гџ (scharfes S

The Theme of Adolescence Found Within T. Coraghessan Boyle s Greasy Lake
Adolescence is a terrifying ride that everyone experiences. Often times we butt heads with one

Childhood Immunizations and Why Some Children are not Getting Vaccines:
A Literature Review
Abstract
Recent outbreaks of measles has promoted renewed interest in childhood vaccinations. However,
lingering doubts about the efficacy and safety of popular and recommended vaccines, specifically
the DTP and MMR vaccines, remain. It is not necessarily the attenuated virus portion of the
vaccines, but the ingredients which assist in the performance of the vaccines, that brings about
concern. Some studies report that, at various times and in certain populations, vaccines may pose

One reason that is resurging in the media is the notion that vaccines can be linked to autism. In
the middle is the result: cases of measles, mumps and rubella are occurring and populations of
children are at risk to contract these preventable viruses. It is therefore important to examine
whether vaccinations are indeed safe, if such vaccines pose adverse health risks, and exactly what
the nature of reasons are as to why some children do not receive their immunizations. Much of the
controversy initially arose out of a study published originally in 1998.
The Center of the Questions of VaccineSafety In 1998 Wakefield et al. published the results of a
study in the British Journal Lancet titled Ileal lymphoid nodular hyperplasia, non specific colitis,

When we give up who we are to please another person we do what I call prostitute our being. We

Reasons For Reimbursement
The current method for reimbursement is not adequate for ensuring cost effective services and
technology. There are five reasons for this inadequacy.4 Firstly, the health outcomes are improved
by new technology on average, but this is not applicable to every technology .Secondly, many new
technologies are characterized by ineffectiveness and redundancy and the problem is worsened as it
is not easy to distinguish between effective technologies and ineffective technologies when they are
first introduced. Thirdly, new technologies generally increase healthcare costs even though several
technologies might reduce costs through the replacement of more expensive alternatives or the
prevention of expensive health repercussions. Fourth, the inappropriate

Decrease In Teen Birth Rate In The United States
Teen birth rates are higher in the United States than any other country. In 2010, over 600,000 teens
were impregnated; however, in following years, the number was reduced by half (Werner, 2014).
These statistics show a decline in teen pregnancy; nonetheless, teen births continue to be an
unsolved epidemic in the United States. There are no simple solutions to end this epidemic, as there
are many contributing factors. For the United States to continue to see a reduction in teen births,
Americans must remain vigilant in attacking some of the leading influences.
One issue Americans must focus on is the lack of parental guidance in households. Some parents
tend to allow their teens to raise themselves without any set rules; thus, giving teens too much
independence before they are ready. Parents must be available and involved in every aspect of
their kids lives. They should know their daily activities, where they are, and with whom they are
hanging around. Parents are children s role models and they have a duty to establish guidelines and

Impact Of Tourism On Tourism Development
I.Rationale
Since the 1970s, many different studies have investigated and analysed residents perceived tourism
impacts toward tourism development. As stated by Nunkoo, Smith, and Ramkissoon (2013),
researchers are increasingly making use of different theories to investigate this topic.
A major reason for rising interest has been the increasing evidence that tourism development leads
not only to positive, but also has the potential for negative outcomes at the local level (Lankford
Howard, 1994).
Furthermore, due to the lack of research on the particular destination, it is of special interest for the
present student to investigate the perceptions that the residents of Malaga hold toward the most
recent socio cultural impacts of tourism derived from a rapidly industry development. Some
professionals of the tourism industry state that Malaga residents consider that the tourist attractions
are only focused on tourists and therefore they do not get involved in the range of activities offered.
The result of the study can be a source of information for future studies in which the centre of
exploration are the locals residents mindset towards socio cultural tourism impacts and how the
industry development affects their quality of life in both positive and negative ways.
II.Research Questions

How Candidiasis Is A Fungal Infection Caused By Yeasts
Candidiasis: Overview and Causes
Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by yeasts that belong to the genus Candida. There are at
least 15 distinct Candida species that cause human disease, but 90% of invasive disease is caused
by the 5 most common pathogens, C. albicans, C. glabrata, C. tropicalis, C. parapsilosis, and C.
krusei with candida albicans being the most prevalent.(Ostrosky Zeichner et al., 2015) Candida
yeasts normally reside in the intestinal tract and can be found on mucous membranes and skin
without causing infection; however, overgrowth of these organisms can cause symptoms to
develop. Symptoms of candidiasis vary depending on the area of the body that is infected.(CDC,
2016e)
The different types of Candidiasis are determined by the area of the body they affect. Oropharyngeal
candidiasis, otherwise known as Thrush, inhabits the buccal cavity or throat. Candidiasis of the
vagina is commonly referred to as a yeast infection. The most clinically significant version of
candidiasis is invasive candidiasis, which happens as a result of a candida species entering the
bloodstream and spreading throughout the body. Invasive candidiasis is primarily found in
immunocompromised patients such as those suffering from HIV, undergoing corticosteroid therapy,
chemotherapy, or those with diabetes.
Candidiasis: Signs and Symptoms and Sequelae
Thrush is relatively easy to recognise as white patches can be observed on the tongue and other oral
mucous membranes. Symptoms

Continental Glaciers
Glaciers are a huge patch of ice. When snow stays in the same place for a really long time,
enough snow will accumulate and turn into ice. Gravity helps move this huge pack of ice because
the ice slowly flows over land. Continental glaciers can be found in Antarctica and Greenland.
Glaciers were once present in Minnesota thousands of years ago, and as they retreated they left
behind large amounts of glacial meltwater and various landforms still present today. Glaciers can
stick around for thousands of years but when they melt they leave large amounts of water.
Glaciation is where a glaciermoves forward in any direction. They are named for a geographic
area. The last time there had been any glacial advances was 75,000 years ago. The Wadena Lobe
came from the north. The Des Moines Lobe came from the northwest. The Rainy and the
Superior Lobe came from the northeast. The last glacial maximum occurred 14,000 years ago. The
furthest it moved was to Des Moines Iowa. It was fully melted 11,000 years ago Glacial lakes used

Information On The Internet Of A Regular Medical Doctor Essay
With the development of technology, the average person has an increased control over their health
and wellbeing especially concerning diet and exercise. Much of the increased control comes from
the plethora of information on the Internet; unfortunately, it is incredibly difficult to determine the
validity of data on the web due to lack of regulation. This allows for everyone and anyone to voice
their opinion and even go as far as stating their opinion as fact. This is a significant problem for
individuals going to the Internet for advice on issues that have real consequences. With 15.5% of
Canadians not having a family physician, health themed websites have become increasingly popular
(Access to a regular medical doctor, 2013). Although these cites bring awareness to health issues
and illnesses, the average person may not have the skills to effectively differentiate between fact
and fiction. Some cites are even affiliates of authentic medical facilities, for example, The Mayo
Clinic. Yet, some health themed websites represent no accreditation, medical education, or research
based facts. Consequently, fiction can masquerade as the truth. Vitamins are particularly at risk for
being misconstrued, due to the general availability of vitamins. Micronutrients vitamins are
undoubtedly important for the human body and, like any supplement, they should only be ingested
after making an informed decision (Campbell). Often, these misconceptions are spread from person

The Bell Jar By Sylvia Plath
In the 1963 novel, The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath depicts the mental breakdown of a young woman,
Esther Greenwood, as a result of the pressures of her environment. Esther grows depressed
throughout the novel and goes crazy due the many conflicting choices she is faced with. In
Esther s 1950s society, she is expected to marry and have children. Yet, she is confronted with
her many wants that conflict with this picture of ideal femininity. As Jay Cee says, Esther wants
to be everything (83), and this is precisely where her dilemma lies. Essentially, Esther s
breakdown can be attributed to her fear of making a choice. This fear is communicated when
Esther states I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the
tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked (62). Esther is
torn between the want for many different futures. The branches suggest that her choices are
mutually exclusive, and she is only able to take one path. All the figs are fat purple,
communicating that all the options are equally fruitful, desirable, and attractive, making Esther s
decision extremely difficult. She describes an array of paths including motherhood and careers,
none of which she is able chose from. She states she, wanted each and every one of them, but
choosing one meant loosing all the rest (63). Unable to make a decision she starves to death (63),
and allows the futures to die. She says, the figs began to

First Generation College Students
Coming from a smaller town where a lot of families do not have the money to send themselves
or even their children to college was tough, I was always worried about what was going to
happen after high school was over. Applying for financial aid and signing up for classes without
having a family member who has done it before is very difficult, the student don t know what
classes to take or how much money to take out for loans, as a first generation college student
myself it has been hard to do all the paperwork for college. A first generation college student can
be very stressed like all college students but for first generation students they have no one that
has gone through the same thing and that could help them get through it. Financial issues are
going to be stressful for every college student, but for first generation students it can get
extremely difficult seen as they do not know that much about applying for financial aid. Some
students can get scholarships that help to pay for their college, though they do not know how to
apply for those scholarships sometimes.Students who are first generation do not get the advice of
their parents on college, just like how they do not know how to sign up for financial aid and
other resources that are useful. Going to college as a first generation college student is a hard
experience to go through, students whose parents did not go to college have a disadvantage
because they do not know how to adjust well to living at college.

Evaluation Of A Research Study
In research, the quantitative study seems to be the most favored method to conduct a study due to
its validity and numerical value. Quantitative studies are objective and considered to be a hard
science which is measurable, and suitable to establish cause and effect relationships (Anderson,
2006). The quantitative study seeks explanatory laws via statistical analysis and the participation
of a large number of participants (Anderson, 2006). The article by Burns et al (1999), which this
writer will be evaluating, utilizes quantitative study to explore intensive vs. standard case
management for severe psychotic illness via a randomized trial (Burns et al., 1999). Not all studies

standard case management to determine if one method is more effective than the other with
individuals with severe psychotic illness (Burns et al., 1999). The difference this study will make
is an improvement in the mental health services rendered in the UK and Europe. The literature
review provided a fair and generalized justification for conducting this quantitative study by
exploring other variables. Burns et al. (1999) failed to go into detail about specific literature review
that inspired this quantitative study. The potential bias the researcher presents is the singling out
one ethnic group of Afro Caribbean, by implying that this ethnic group tends to be uncooperative
and poorly served (Burns et al., 1999). All the important concepts are clearly defined by the
researcher. Burns et al. (1999) describe previous methods of controlled groups as a way to
understand the strength of association between the type of case management and the number of
hospital admissions (Burns et al., 1999). Previous methods created the relevance to understanding
the purpose of conducting this study.
Evaluation of the Purpose Statement and Hypothesis Burns et al. (1999) clearly state the purpose
as, to assess the effect of intensive case management (defined as a smaller caseload size) in
patients with serious mental illness in four inner city mental health services (Burns et al., 1999, p.
2185). The purpose is to argue why ICM is not effective in UK and Europe. The

Week 6 Discussion
For the Week 6 Discussion you will create a Gantt chart for one element of the St. Dismas case
study project. Using a project management tool like MS Project is typically the easiest and fastest
way to do this. However, it is not the only way. You can use MS Office products as well to create
the Gantt Chart.
Students often ask about the use of project management software applications in this course. In the
past we required the use of MS Project for this course but removed it as a requirement when we
rewrote the course. The reason we removed it was that MS Project has a very steep learning curve
for all but the most basic functions. The software is very expensive and is not web based so it

God Bless The Usa Analysis
The artifact that expresses my view of America is the song, God Bless the USA written and sung
by Lee Greenwood. Although written in the 1980s, this song rose to popularity after the 9/11
attack on the World Trade Center. God Bless the USA is a motivating song that I believe
reassured the American people and gave them hope after such a traumatic incident. The musical
qualities of God Bless the USA help to construct Greenwood s vision of America. The song begins
with clear piano and guitar notes, which creates a slow and reflective feel. However, as the song
continues, the music builds up until it is proud symphony of violins. This transition shows the
moral strength of the American people. As the music gets closer to the chorus, there... Show more

In God Bless the USA, Greenwood mentions that he won t forget the men who died [in the
army], and who gave [freedom] to me. In Greenwood s perspective, fighting for the USA is
idealistic and in line with the American values. However, in Born in the USA, Springsteen notes
that the military is sent off in a foreign land to go kill the yellow man. In this statement,
Springsteen is highly unfavorable to having American soldiers go and kill in the name of what is
right. He believes that Americans are violent. While God Bless the USA is uses a rhythmic drum
beat to display American pride, Born in the USA uses those same music qualities as irony.
Springsteen s mesh of anthemic music and disheartening lyrics conveys his message about the
warped sense of pride that Americans

Stopping World Hunger in Cuba
Many wise people have had much to say on the subject of hunger. World hunger quotes can help us
to understand what others think about this heartbreaking subject. Perhaps in understanding, a
workable solution will be found and hunger will be a thing of the past.
The ever more sophisticated weapons piling up in the arsenals of the wealthiest and the mightiest
can kill the illiterate, the ill, the poor and the hungry, but they cannot kill ignorance, illness, poverty
or hunger. Fidel Castro
While often demonized in the US, Fidel Castro did much work to bring the poorest and the worst
off of people the basics of healthy living. One of the injustices he attempted to right was the
starvation of the poorest of the Cuban people. Castro was a Marxist and a socialist. He believed
that each man woman and child was entitled to the things that make life possible.
The world s wealthiest countries can afford to build weaponry that can wipe entire peoples so that
it is like they never lived. They can throw away the poor, the hungry, the completely
disenfranchised people at the very margins of society. Yet such an approach will do nothing to
remove the problems that economic inequality creates. Only addressing the root issue of inequality
will forever solve the problem.
Further, he believed that if one person had to go without food so that another may feast that
something was indeed wrong with the system. He worked to bring food to everyone on his island
and succeeded in doing

Closing The Gap Analysis
I. Introduction
In Australia, Closing the Gap has become a key focus in the way governments have decided to
address indigenous inequality. The term closing the gap can be traced back to policy introduced in
New Zealand in the 1990s aimed at addressing inequality in MДЃori communities. Governments in
both Australia and New Zealand have tried to bridge perceived gaps between these Indigenous
groups and the rest of society particularly in relation to gaps in socioeconomic status. However
such policies may be problematic as they tend to ignore issues of self determination and sovereignty
sought by Indigenous groups (Cornell 2006:9 10; Muldoon Schaap 2012:535). Ignoring claims of
self determination and sovereignty may be indicative of ongoing divisions in settler states working
to accommodate the needs and outcomes of Indigenous groups given the undercurrent of conflictual
and often violent histories that mar the relations between the two groups. As such, this essay seeks
to compare these policies regarding inequalities between Indigenous societies and their settler states,
as well as the relevant contexts of these policies, in order to highlight issues that emerge in relation
to indigenous claims for sovereignty and concepts of nationalism.
The issue with closing the gap policies is that such initiatives seek to unite or assimilate indigenous

Positive And Negative Effects Of Colonialism In Africa
Africa, although it is the mother of all the continents and is the origin of humankind, is considered
the most misunderstood continent that has gone through centuries of strife and exploitation from
other countries all over the world. Since the beginning of slavery in Africa in the medieval times,
many changes in Africahave occurred in a social and economic standpoint in relations to other
countries and within the native land itself by causing colonialism, which is the process of taking
control of another area politically while also using their land. Colonialism has had a negative effect
on Africa both socially, politically, and economically and can be fixed with the help of other
countries. Africa in and of itself was the mighty continent before slaveryand colonialism. Africa
serves as the Mater Hominum and the Mater Continentium, or the creator of the first humans and
the mother continent. It is regarded in the book African Foreign Policy and Diplomacy from
Antiquity to the 21st Century, written by Dr. Daniel Don Nanjira, that Africa is the first cradle of
the humankind, which makes it the only continent in the world to have the whole human species
inhabit the area for at least 5 million years running (Nanjira 7). Therefore, Africa is revered as
the first continent in existence for the world and is the oldest place of human life which in turn
illustrates the value and true importance of the land and people that have for so long been
disregarded and corrupted. Before the use of slavery and colonialism, African had flourishing and
prosperous civilizations that been first established in the Nile River valley like the Kingdoms of
Kerma in the ancient region of Nubia. There are also many other empires that have been known all
over Africa such as the Aksumite, Mali, and Luba empires. These Kingdom s once prospered
before or during slavery and colonialism and had their own cultures and significant contributions to
civilization. The Kingdom of Kerma was established in the northern part of Sudan in 2500 BC and
ended in 1500 BC after the Egyptian invasion of the country after they had already invaded
neighboring lands and allianced states or cities. It is one of the many Kingdoms found in the ancient

Neanderthals:

Introduction
Evolutionary studies are undoubtedly a large, significant aspect of biological anthropology.
Anthropology can be defined as the study of human nature, human society, and the human past
(Lavenda and Schultz 2016:5). Evolution includes the past, present, and future. It revolves around
how we got to where we are today; what are our origins as modern day humans? Neanderthals are
an important piece of that puzzle that has yet to be properly placed. The role, significance, and
similarity between modern day humans and Neanderthals are topics of special interest for many
biological anthropologists. John D. Speth discusses this exact topic in his article titled News Flash:
Negative Evidence Convicts Neanderthals of Gross Mental Incompetence. Neanderthals have been
unjustifiably placed in a category of inferior cognitive abilities based primarily on negative
evidence, a form of evidence that is not testable, therefore not capable of proving anything, thus
demonstrating that Neanderthals were intelligent beings and do not differ from modern day
humans in intelligence.
Article Summary John D. Speth authored the article, News Flash: Negative Evidence Convicts
Neanderthals of Gross Mental Incompetence, a piece where Speth argues that Neanderthals have
not been properly proven of inferior cognitive abilities. Speth says,

Oral Traditions Of A Female
In Africa there are oral traditions of a Female, Mawu in some languages, who is related to the
Creator, thought there are a variety of opinions on how that came about. (see vodun, under Occult
Philosophies).
Australopithecus Sediba
In a 2010 article in Science , Dr. Berger and a team of experts described the fossils of a boy and a
woman, who were discovered near Johannesburg. The bones were a surprise because they displayed
a mixture of primitive and modern human attributes, therefore qualifying as a distinct species. They
have been named Australopithecus sediba, and lived about 2 million years ago.
These individuals travelled upright on long legs, with human shaped hips and pelvis, but still
climbed through trees on ape like arms. They had the small teeth and more modern face of Homo
genus that includes modern humans, but the relatively primitive feet and tiny brain of
Australopithecus. Its primitive anatomy included a brain the size of an average orange. Other
Australopithecines and early species of Homo, like H. naledi, were its contemporaries. Dr. Berger
indicated that the species evolved near or at the root of the Homo genus, about 2.5 million to 2.8
million years old. Geologists think the cave in which they were located is no older than three
million years.
The Australopithecines in general, succeeded for millions of years in Africa. Then new
experimental types developed, perhaps because of the influence of Nu Wa and other Great
Teachers, who continued to offer

Political, Economic And Social Changes In The South...
After the Civil War, it became very noticeable that changes in the South like, restoration of the
Union, the transformation of Southern society, and the enactment of revolutionary legislation
favoring the rights of freed slaves, had to be made. Therefore there were many political, economic,
and social reforms introduced in the South between 1864 and 1877, some of which did not survive
in the Compromise of 1877. There were three main phases of Reconstruction under, Abraham
Lincoln, Andrew Johnson and the Radical Republicans. Reconstruction was a time period
consisting of many leaders, objectives and accomplishments. Nevertheless the Reconstruction
period did come to an end, the resulting outcome has been characterized as both an achievement...

Radical Republicans disliked the Ten Percent Plan because it enabled Lincoln to determine Union
policy, so in place they put the Wade Davis Bill. The Wade Davis Bill was passed in 1864, and
provided constitutional conventions only after the majority of the others in a southern state had
taken a loyalty oath, this also guaranteed black equality. Lincoln later disposed of the Wade Davis
Bill with a pocket veto, but the matters still stood when Andrew Johnson became president after the
assassination. The Radical Republicans took a on a more vengeful approach to reconstruction,
which Andrew Johnson did not approve of. Andrew Johnson ratified the Thirteenth amendment
which, abolished slavery, and elected senators and representatives in 1865. Southern states
resistance to ratifying the Thirteenth Amendment prevented reforms from working to a larger
degree. The Thirteenth amendment was still ratified after enough other states agreed. After the
Thirteenth Amendment was ratified, Southern states still showed resistance to blacks. The Ku Klux
Klan, which originated in Tennessee in 1866, was created to intimidate blacks with physical and
mental force to keep them from being in the poles. The

Critique of Title IX
What if you were told that a law was made to remove discrimination of sexes in sports and
education, or that man and woman are both given equal opportunities as far as an athletic or
educational career? Would you then agree or disagree with the ideology that both sexes are still
treated different even though this law was created and the opportunities that were promised aren t
precisely indistinguishable? Title IX does not accurately protect sexual discrimination; it doesn t
give equal opportunities, and is unjust as far as benefits between maleand femalesports. Although
this law allows men and women to participate in the same sports and educational fields it does not

In order to comply with Title IX the schools had to effectuate with what s called proportionality.
(CBS news) Proportionality states that the portion of the school that is female must also be the
portion of athletes that is female. Therefore setting a balance between the schools ratio and the
athletic ratios and also enforcing Title IX. The problem that balancing caused was that the
school had to add more women sports which cost more money to the school, or choose to cancel
some of the schools male sports. Subsequently, the schools had to do what was best for the
school and to avoid going into debt for sports the male sports had to be put on the burner. Many
schools cut male wrestling, track and field, tennis, and gymnastics teams instead of adding
women sports. Jason Lewis a gymnasts whose team was eliminated said that the number of men
s teams are dwindling because colleges are dropping what are called the minor men s sports, the
ones that don t draw crowds or make money, and investing more and more in just one sport
football. The Fact that just twenty three years ago, there was 107 men s gymnastics teams in this
nation, now there are only 20 teams left just so happens to prove Lewis s statement to be
true.(CBS news) Finally, Title IX says that equal benefits should be given to both men and women
in the sports and education industries, but there are people who disagree with this statement. Title

  • 2. The New President Of The United States Synopsis In the article, the new president of the United States Donald Trump has made plans to temporarily ban Muslims from entering this country. According to Huffington post, The reason behind Trump s decision for the total shut down of Muslims entering the United States is until our country s representatives can figure out what is going on (Goldberg, 2016). President Donald Trump discussing his plan through the media has created a great opportunity for the radicalization of the American Islamic population to become easier, which leads to the recruitment for Jihadist terror. The appearance of Trump during his public speech on banning the Muslim culture has been used for recruitment. In addition, a video of Al Shabaab Terror group... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is unconstitutional. The first amendment of the Bill of Rights says Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. Trump s Muslim ban is the prohibition of free exercise of religion under the guise of a national security threat. In addition, I think that the 90 day ban will assist Islamic extremists in the recruitment of more people for their organizations. Donald Trump is the perfect villain to add justification to the terrorist cause as they take advantage of the people from the banned countries. The people are desperate. Their homes and lives have been destroyed by decades of war that the United States has had a significant role in starting (Clark, 2011). Now the same people are being denied refuge from the same country that is partly responsible for their displacement. Influence of New Media According to the course text, new media is made of up devices and capabilities surrounding digital and internet technology that are categorized by interactive social media and multimedia content (Surette, 2015). Based on how new media is characterized, I think that the influence that new media has on this story is that it allows for this information to be easily and quickly shared with ... • 3. The United States Women s National Team The United States women s national soccer team is being torn under discrimination and how they are being treated as an individual. Throughout the years, the women have accomplished so much more than the men, but yet are being paid less than what the men are making. They have experienced rough conditions of the fields when they play their matches, which can lead to serious career ending injuries. The women have had enough of this situation and they plan to bring this up to the U.S Soccer Federation, they hope the men will stick up for them and help them fight for their rights, the women hope to get rid of Astroturf altogether and quit playing their matches on it, and has the federation been like this for a long time. So over the years of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The importance is to know how they feel about this situation, which can put in a different perspective on how you were chosen to represent a country but get brought down because of gender . It s our responsibility to know what s right and what s wrong in the federation and stick up for the people being torn and brought down from discrimination. The U.S Soccer Federation is being brought to attention and being investigated of the discrimination towards the women. For example, The U.S Soccer Federation is a 501 nonprofit and the official governing body of the sport of soccer in the United States. (Wikipedia1). This clearly demonstrates that the federation is in charge of the soccer, and it is understood that they are more than capable of changing the discrimination between the women and the men. The significance is that being the federation they have all of the power to determine how much pay each national team gets, and only they can do what s right in this situation. In addition, According to a budget report from the U.S Soccer Federation, the women s team is projected to bring in more than $17 million in revenues, including a $5 million surplus for a fiscal year 2017, nearly doubling their male counterparts. • 4. Military Drone Strikes Against Terrorism Military Drone Strikes Against Terrorism It was the day February 4, 2002 in Afghanistan, the day of the first authorized drone strike by the U.S. A CIA Predator drone prowled the skies in search of prey. It was searching for a group that the CIA suspected to include Osama Bin Laden. After some time, the group was located, and the Predator drone fired on the group, killing all of the targets. After further insight, it was discovered that the targets, now all dead, were just civilians gathering scrap metal ( Should the United ). Should drones be used for military strikes on terrorism? This is an ongoing modern debate, which has very contrasting viewpoints. Drones are used in military operations, usually in sudden aerial strikes aimed to quickly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When targets are disposed of through means of remote controlled drones, the U.S becomes disconnected with the war itself. Drone Pilot Colonel D. Scott Brenton himself admitted that in conducting drone strikes with just a screen and controls, he feels no connection or emotion for the people he kills ( Should the United ). This should not be so. Through this, the U.S is able to go to any measure and continue any conflict as it pleases with no remorse for the cost of human lives. This further enables the U.S to disregard moral principles, at the cost of as many human lives as the U.S pleases. War should have restrictions, and every life should be bargained and reasoned with. With this disconnect though, the U.S uses as much force as it pleases in conflicts that threaten their interest. This disconnect through drone strikes also allows the U.S not to notice or care for how it is spreading to the general civilian life in the affected regions. According to witnesses and researchers, drone strikes are harming local populations beyond death and physical injury ( Should the United ). Many witness that the people in affected regions live in constant fear of drone strikes, and are afraid to travel or participate in any sort of meeting. Many incidents of local deaths and injuries due to these drone strikes plague the population, and many people consider the drones to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Hamlet s Madness Is Less Than Madness And More Than Feigned Charmaine Bowden Hancock Honors English III 3rd Period Dec. 17. 2015 Fact or Fake? Hamlet s madness is less than madness and more than feigned . What is madness? Mad is a word with such uncertainty that it can be stretched to mean an abundance of things more than just pure psychological instability: a weariness of life; a suicidal impulse; a plotting charisma. In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, a wild disagreement has been consequent for a series of years in the case of the madness of Hamlet, the play s central narrative, was justifiable or feigned. As in any decision, one must be given both sides of the controversy before making an impartial conclusion. The case of Hamlet s madness is no exclusion. It is appropriate to say that Hamlet may have remained sensible throughout the performance, especially in consideration of his rag flashes of what seems to be psychological discipline and stability. However, Hamlet is perceived as disoriented by overwhelming burst of hysteria after acquiring knowledge of his father s death, news of Gertrude s quick remarriage, and Claudius becoming the new King. In the butt end it is up to the scholar to determine for him or herself the psychological nature of Hamlet s madness, as it may have been the motive of William Shakespeare, taking into review how open ended this subject continued throughout the play. With Hamlet s return to Denmark he is made aware of his father s death, Old King Hamlet. His reaction to his father s death is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Negative Impact Of Industrialization On European Society Impacts of Industrialization Industrialization is the system in which a country goes from a primarily agricultural state into one based on the manufacturing of goods and services. Industrialization began its immense impact during the 18th century in Europe, where it was first introduced. Starting its life as a mining town in the late 1800 s, Jerome, at one time, was known as the Wickedest Town in the West. Between its bars, brothels, and gambling establishments, Jerome became one of the one of the most accomplished locales in separating miners from their money. With the dawn of the 1900 s, Jerome became more dignified with the establishment of churches, schools, and businesses catering to its growing population. It even had its own post office and five car dealerships. At its peak, Jerome boasted over 15,000 residents with 3000 miners employed in the town. By the 1950 s, the local mining industry had all but collapsed and the population dwindled to about 100 people. The perseverance of the remaining residents to prevent Jerome from becoming just another ghost town, however, led to recognition of the town as a National Historic Site. Over the next couple decades, Jerome went from being a downward spiraling, abandoned mining town to a major central Arizona tourist destination. Today, Jerome is a tourist mecca with numerous restaurants, galleries, winetasting rooms, and unique shops. Remarkably, each one of the three societies I was privileged enough to travel to r igidly followed a renowned philosophy. These were the philosophies of Plato, Soren Kierkegaard, and Friedrich Nietzsche. The Republic The first society I visited was that of Plato s philosophy. The residents were very kind and sought out true meanings of different vi rtues solely by dialectic. They structured their city much the same way that Plato structured the renowned Republic . Plato said that a just city would involve each man doing his own work, or specializing in a certain task. The cobbler would be a cobbler, the builder would be a builder, the farmer a farmer, and so on an d so forth. Each of these focused on his work and in such a way maximized outpu t, as is logical. For my research paper, I have chosen to explore the differences and similarities between the English language and the German language. My interest in this subject area is mainly due to my own nationality and roots in Germany. My grandma (or should I say meine omi), is from Gersfeld, Germany and she immigrated to the United States during World War II. My research has conducted many results that yield both similarities and differences between the languages. One of the most prominent difference between the two languages is that German is spoken by about 95 million people worldwide, and is the official language of Germany, Austria and parts of Switzerland (Shoebottom, 1), meanwhile statistics show that English is the third most widespread native language in the world, after Standard Chinese and Spanish. It is the most widely learned second language and is either the official language or one of the official languages in almost 60 sovereign states (Shoebottom, 1). Contrary to this large disparity, according to Charles Russ, author of Historical German Phonology and Morphology, English and German both belong to the Germanic branch of the Indo European language family (1), this results in numerous similarities between the languages; including the words: export, partner, blue jeans, computer, teenager, and jet (Garry and Rubino, 244). There are five reasons for this inadequacy.4 Firstly, the health outcomes are improved by new technology on average, but this is not applicable to every technology .Secondly, many new technologies are characterized by ineffectiveness and redundancy and the problem is worsened as it is not easy to distinguish between effective technologies and ineffective technologies when they are first introduced. Thirdly, new technologies generally increase healthcare costs even though several technologies might reduce costs through the replacement of more expensive alternatives or the prevention of expensive health repercussions. In 2010, over 600,000 teens were impregnated; however, in following years, the number was reduced by half (Werner, 2014). These statistics show a decline in teen pregnancy; nonetheless, teen births continue to be an unsolved epidemic in the United States. There are no simple solutions to end this epidemic, as there are many contributing factors. For the United States to continue to see a reduction in teen births, Americans must remain vigilant in attacking some of the leading influences. One issue Americans must focus on is the lack of parental guidance in households. Some parents tend to allow their teens to raise themselves without any set rules; thus, giving teens too much independence before they are ready. Parents must be available and involved in every aspect of their kids lives. They should know their daily activities, where they are, and with whom they are hanging around. • 34. Impact Of Tourism On Tourism Development I.Rationale Since the 1970s, many different studies have investigated and analysed residents perceived tourism impacts toward tourism development. As stated by Nunkoo, Smith, and Ramkissoon (2013), researchers are increasingly making use of different theories to investigate this topic. A major reason for rising interest has been the increasing evidence that tourism development leads not only to positive, but also has the potential for negative outcomes at the local level (Lankford Howard, 1994). Furthermore, due to the lack of research on the particular destination, it is of special interest for the present student to investigate the perceptions that the residents of Malaga hold toward the most recent socio cultural impacts of tourism derived from a rapidly industry development. Some professionals of the tourism industry state that Malaga residents consider that the tourist attractions are only focused on tourists and therefore they do not get involved in the range of activities offered. • 35. How Candidiasis Is A Fungal Infection Caused By Yeasts Candidiasis: Overview and Causes Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by yeasts that belong to the genus Candida. There are at least 15 distinct Candida species that cause human disease, but 90% of invasive disease is caused by the 5 most common pathogens, C. albicans, C. glabrata, C. tropicalis, C. parapsilosis, and C. krusei with candida albicans being the most prevalent.(Ostrosky Zeichner et al., 2015) Candida yeasts normally reside in the intestinal tract and can be found on mucous membranes and skin without causing infection; however, overgrowth of these organisms can cause symptoms to develop. Symptoms of candidiasis vary depending on the area of the body that is infected.(CDC, 2016e) The different types of Candidiasis are determined by the area of the body they affect. Oropharyngeal candidiasis, otherwise known as Thrush, inhabits the buccal cavity or throat. Candidiasis of the vagina is commonly referred to as a yeast infection. The most clinically significant version of candidiasis is invasive candidiasis, which happens as a result of a candida species entering the bloodstream and spreading throughout the body. Invasive candidiasis is primarily found in immunocompromised patients such as those suffering from HIV, undergoing corticosteroid therapy, chemotherapy, or those with diabetes. Information On The Internet Of A Regular Medical Doctor Essay With the development of technology, the average person has an increased control over their health and wellbeing especially concerning diet and exercise. Much of the increased control comes from the plethora of information on the Internet; unfortunately, it is incredibly difficult to determine the validity of data on the web due to lack of regulation. This allows for everyone and anyone to voice their opinion and even go as far as stating their opinion as fact. This is a significant problem for individuals going to the Internet for advice on issues that have real consequences. With 15.5% of Canadians not having a family physician, health themed websites have become increasingly popular (Access to a regular medical doctor, 2013). Esther grows depressed throughout the novel and goes crazy due the many conflicting choices she is faced with. In Esther s 1950s society, she is expected to marry and have children. Yet, she is confronted with her many wants that conflict with this picture of ideal femininity. As Jay Cee says, Esther wants to be everything (83), and this is precisely where her dilemma lies. Essentially, Esther s breakdown can be attributed to her fear of making a choice. This fear is communicated when Esther states I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked (62). Esther is torn between the want for many different futures. The branches suggest that her choices are mutually exclusive, and she is only able to take one path. All the figs are fat purple, communicating that all the options are equally fruitful, desirable, and attractive, making Esther s decision extremely difficult. She describes an array of paths including motherhood and careers, none of which she is able chose from. She states she, wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant loosing all the rest (63). Unable to make a decision she starves to death (63), and allows the futures to die. One of the injustices he attempted to right was the starvation of the poorest of the Cuban people. Castro was a Marxist and a socialist. • 49. Closing The Gap Analysis I. Introduction In Australia, Closing the Gap has become a key focus in the way governments have decided to address indigenous inequality. The term closing the gap can be traced back to policy introduced in New Zealand in the 1990s aimed at addressing inequality in MДЃori communities. Governments in both Australia and New Zealand have tried to bridge perceived gaps between these Indigenous groups and the rest of society particularly in relation to gaps in socioeconomic status. However such policies may be problematic as they tend to ignore issues of self determination and sovereignty sought by Indigenous groups (Cornell 2006:9 10; Muldoon Schaap 2012:535). Ignoring claims of self determination and sovereignty may be indicative of ongoing divisions in settler states working to accommodate the needs and outcomes of Indigenous groups given the undercurrent of conflictual and often violent histories that mar the relations between the two groups. As such, this essay seeks to compare these policies regarding inequalities between Indigenous societies and their settler states, as well as the relevant contexts of these policies, in order to highlight issues that emerge in relation to indigenous claims for sovereignty and concepts of nationalism. • 52. Positive And Negative Effects Of Colonialism In Africa Africa, although it is the mother of all the continents and is the origin of humankind, is considered the most misunderstood continent that has gone through centuries of strife and exploitation from other countries all over the world. Since the beginning of slavery in Africa in the medieval times, many changes in Africahave occurred in a social and economic standpoint in relations to other countries and within the native land itself by causing colonialism, which is the process of taking control of another area politically while also using their land. Colonialism has had a negative effect on Africa both socially, politically, and economically and can be fixed with the help of other countries. Africa in and of itself was the mighty continent before slaveryand colonialism. Africa serves as the Mater Hominum and the Mater Continentium, or the creator of the first humans and the mother continent. It is regarded in the book African Foreign Policy and Diplomacy from Antiquity to the 21st Century, written by Dr. Daniel Don Nanjira, that Africa is the first cradle of the humankind, which makes it the only continent in the world to have the whole human species inhabit the area for at least 5 million years running (Nanjira 7). Therefore, Africa is revered as the first continent in existence for the world and is the oldest place of human life which in turn illustrates the value and true importance of the land and people that have for so long been disregarded and corrupted. Before the use of slavery and colonialism, African had flourishing and prosperous civilizations that been first established in the Nile River valley like the Kingdoms of Kerma in the ancient region of Nubia. There are also many other empires that have been known all over Africa such as the Aksumite, Mali, and Luba empires. • 53. Human Nature, Human, And The Human Past Neanderthals: Are We Really That Different? Mitch Charlton Student #250833199 Anthropology 1020E 001 5A Alexis Dolphin November 9 2015 Introduction Evolutionary studies are undoubtedly a large, significant aspect of biological anthropology. Anthropology can be defined as the study of human nature, human society, and the human past (Lavenda and Schultz 2016:5). Evolution includes the past, present, and future. It revolves around how we got to where we are today; what are our origins as modern day humans? Neanderthals are an important piece of that puzzle that has yet to be properly placed. The role, significance, and similarity between modern day humans and Neanderthals are topics of special interest for many biological anthropologists. John D. Speth discusses this exact topic in his article titled News Flash: Negative Evidence Convicts Neanderthals of Gross Mental Incompetence. Neanderthals have been unjustifiably placed in a category of inferior cognitive abilities based primarily on negative evidence, a form of evidence that is not testable, therefore not capable of proving anything, thus demonstrating that Neanderthals were intelligent beings and do not differ from modern day humans in intelligence. Article Summary John D. Speth authored the article, News Flash: Negative Evidence Convicts Neanderthals of Gross Mental Incompetence, a piece where Speth argues that Neanderthals have not been properly proven of inferior cognitive abilities. • 54. Oral Traditions Of A Female In Africa there are oral traditions of a Female, Mawu in some languages, who is related to the Creator, thought there are a variety of opinions on how that came about. (see vodun, under Occult Philosophies). Australopithecus Sediba In a 2010 article in Science , Dr. Berger and a team of experts described the fossils of a boy and a woman, who were discovered near Johannesburg. The bones were a surprise because they displayed a mixture of primitive and modern human attributes, therefore qualifying as a distinct species. They have been named Australopithecus sediba, and lived about 2 million years ago. These individuals travelled upright on long legs, with human shaped hips and pelvis, but still climbed through trees on ape like arms. They had the small teeth and more modern face of Homo genus that includes modern humans, but the relatively primitive feet and tiny brain of Australopithecus. Its primitive anatomy included a brain the size of an average orange. Other Australopithecines and early species of Homo, like H. naledi, were its contemporaries. Dr. Berger indicated that the species evolved near or at the root of the Homo genus, about 2.5 million to 2.8 million years old. Geologists think the cave in which they were located is no older than three million years. The Australopithecines in general, succeeded for millions of years in Africa. Then new experimental types developed, perhaps because of the influence of Nu Wa and other Great Teachers, who continued to offer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Political, Economic And Social Changes In The South... After the Civil War, it became very noticeable that changes in the South like, restoration of the Union, the transformation of Southern society, and the enactment of revolutionary legislation favoring the rights of freed slaves, had to be made. Therefore there were many political, economic, and social reforms introduced in the South between 1864 and 1877, some of which did not survive in the Compromise of 1877. There were three main phases of Reconstruction under, Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson and the Radical Republicans. Radical Republicans disliked the Ten Percent Plan because it enabled Lincoln to determine Union policy, so in place they put the Wade Davis Bill. The Wade Davis Bill was passed in 1864, and provided constitutional conventions only after the majority of the others in a southern state had taken a loyalty oath, this also guaranteed black equality. Lincoln later disposed of the Wade Davis Bill with a pocket veto, but the matters still stood when Andrew Johnson became president after the assassination. The Radical Republicans took a on a more vengeful approach to reconstruction, which Andrew Johnson did not approve of. Andrew Johnson ratified the Thirteenth amendment which, abolished slavery, and elected senators and representatives in 1865. Southern states resistance to ratifying the Thirteenth Amendment prevented reforms from working to a larger degree. The Thirteenth amendment was still ratified after enough other states agreed. After the Thirteenth Amendment was ratified, Southern states still showed resistance to blacks. The Ku Klux Klan, which originated in Tennessee in 1866, was created to intimidate blacks with physical and mental force to keep them from being in the poles. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Critique of Title IX What if you were told that a law was made to remove discrimination of sexes in sports and education, or that man and woman are both given equal opportunities as far as an athletic or educational career? Would you then agree or disagree with the ideology that both sexes are still treated different even though this law was created and the opportunities that were promised aren t precisely indistinguishable? Title IX does not accurately protect sexual discrimination; it doesn t give equal opportunities, and is unjust as far as benefits between maleand femalesports. Although this law allows men and women to participate in the same sports and educational fields it does not efficiently take care of those who feel sexes should be separate... (CBS news) Proportionality states that the portion of the school that is female must also be the portion of athletes that is female. Therefore setting a balance between the schools ratio and the athletic ratios and also enforcing Title IX. The problem that balancing caused was that the school had to add more women sports which cost more money to the school, or choose to cancel some of the schools male sports. Subsequently, the schools had to do what was best for the school and to avoid going into debt for sports the male sports had to be put on the burner. Many schools cut male wrestling, track and field, tennis, and gymnastics teams instead of adding women sports. Jason Lewis a gymnasts whose team was eliminated said that the number of men s teams are dwindling because colleges are dropping what are called the minor men s sports, the ones that don t draw crowds or make money, and investing more and more in just one sport football. The Fact that just twenty three years ago, there was 107 men s gymnastics teams in this nation, now there are only 20 teams left just so happens to prove Lewis s statement to be true.(CBS news) Finally, Title IX says that equal benefits should be given to both men and women in the sports and education industries, but there are people who disagree with this statement.
