Troylynn Case Study
On Monday July 17th I was approached by TroyLynn Craft about the upcoming entry level interview
questions Captain Browne and I had been working on. She began with saying it was her opinion that
our questions contained too many follow up questions , and that she thought it would confuse our
candidates. I suggested we sit, and read through each of them together to address her concerns. At the
onset of our meeting, I read through all the questions and determined we only had three follow up
questions, but we adjusted them none the less. TroyLynn had issue with questions number two, three,
and eight. One specifically addresses the diverse communities we serve, and our diverse work force
(#8). She said, this is not a diverse department, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She went to look up the definition of diversity on her desktop, and I stated, The intent of the question
is to determine if the candidate understands diversity, and more importantly whether they can speak to
delivering service to our customers equitably . TroyLynn then preceded to look up the word equitably
in front of me just as she had the word diversity. It wasn t clear whether she was looking it up to
confirm its definition for me or herself. Rather than make an issue over the finite details of the
question, I suggested taking out the part she had issue with, and we did. The question now reads:
Clackamas fire serves a diverse community; if hired how do you plan to champion that? I asked
TroyLynn some qualifying questions after the edits were made. Why don t you think we are a diverse
fire department? She replied: The only African Americans we have are not on the line, and the one we
had as a volunteer took a job with Portland because he would be more comfortable there . She went on
to say; well, we have Oscar but he identifies as white, but we do have two in our new academy . I
asked; Are we currently doing anything to fix our lack of diversity ? She mentioned our new
application process was in an

Pros And Cons Of Government Intervention
Why is it good or bad for the US Government to intervene or impose its power on the economy? We
first must understand what regulatory economics is before we can answer this question. Regulatory
economics is the application of law by government or independent administrative agencies for various
purposes. These include remedying market failure, protecting the environment, centrally planning an
economy, enriching well connected firms, or benefitting politicians. This is basically saying legislation
imposed by a government on individuals and private sector firms in order to regulate and modify
economic behaviors.
Now something as complex as this can t be answered with just a simple good or bad response. There
are many historical events that have good and bad evidence of the United States government
intervening on the economy. The controversy is mainly with regulation. There are also different
elements to regulation: 1) Public statutes standards or statements of expectations, 2) A registration or
licensing process to approve and permit the operation of a service ... Show more content on

This means that government intervention is both good and bad. I personally believe that government
intervention is 100% necessary for the Economy. I don t agree with all of the rules and regulations that
the government has passed, but without government intervention I believe the US Economy would
become an inefficient market. My top reasons for siding with Government intervention are; 1) The
government does its best to combat market inequities through regulations, taxation, and subsidies. 2)
The government intervenes to promote general economic fairness. 3) The government maximizes
social welfare through breaking up monopolies, regulating negative externalities such as pollution, etc.
4) Governments may intervene in markets to promote other goals such as national unity and

Project Management Failures And Its Effects On The Mine
Project Management Failures The other evident failure was that the management did not address
concerns that were raised in regards to high volumes of harmful gases in the mine. Pike River Coal
Mine s managers were more concerned about producing huge volumes of coal, instead of protecting
their employees from avoidable accidents. For instance, reports of high methane levels were not
addressed appropriately. Instead of investing in safety procedures, the managers let their employees
work in a dangerous environment. One major problem that caused this accident was the frequent
changing of the top management. Leaders were replaced without even addressing the safety issues that
had been raised by the employees. Pike River Coal Mine could have hired well trained managers to
oversee operations at the mine for the long term. Complaints of excessive methane gas could have
been handled by installing stable fans and ventilation systems. This gesture could have helped create a
safe working environment for the miners. Leakages could also have been controlled to limit the
volumes of methane gas in the underground mine. These strategies could have been followed to
protect employees from fatal respiratory diseases as well as fire accidents (Perrow, 2002). The initial
project failure was the idea of constructing a coal mine in a mountainous terrain. The construction of
Pike River Coal Mine was based on experience gained from bore hole exploration procedures. The
required procedures for

How Does John Updike Use Flashbacks In A Sandstone Farm House
A Sandstone Farmhouse has to be John Updike s most supreme short story, and it s a must read. He
speaks on how a man named Joey is reminiscing about his mom and the house they lived in when he
was just a young boy. Updike extensively uses flashbacks and imagery to create the grand story.
Firstly, The story goes from present to past many times. There s multitudes of flashbacks that he uses
to explain who his mom was and what the house meant to his family. The flashbacks help convey who
his mom was as a person and the life that he grew up. The story starts by going back 40 years to the
time of World War Two, this is of the time before they bought the house and they were looking at it to
potentially buy it. They bought the house the next year ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joey talks about what he found after his mother s death as he was going through the contents of the
house and he finds an old college yearbook with portraits of his mother, With a magnifying glass he
studied her unsmiling, competitive face, with her hair in two balls at her ears and a headband over her
bangs. This excerpt really shows how into detail Updike goes, it s really great because it helps convey
what is going on in the story so everything can be seen clearly as he wants the reader to see. Joey is
going through the basement and there s a description of how he does it and it has imagery anda use of
an onomatopoeia in it, Joey s city shoes slithered on the smooth floor, and then thumped on the
wooden cellar stairs. (129) This really helps the reader see what s happening as if he s there. The
onomatopoeia helps strengthen the imagery present in the sentence. Towards the end of the story Joey
explores his father s toolhouse, it was a pathetic one. His father wasn t a manly man and didn t get
much use out of it, In the toolhouse, where his father had left a pathetic legacy of rusty screws and
nails neatly arranged in jars, and oily tools, half of them broken, mounted on rotting pegboard, there
were also antique implements worn like prehistoric artifacts

How Did Beethoven Change Music
Ludwig Van Beethoven, was the composer who changed music more than any other composer, the
sound of music and what the other composers that were to come after him thought. He wrote nine
symphonies, five piano concertos, an opera and many pieces of chamber music that jolted music right
out of itself. (Landon) Beethoven changed music by creating a new era called Romanticism,
influencing the other composers and changing the old methods by adding a special twist.
The first way that Beethoven changed music was by creating romanticism. Ludwig is viewed as the
most transitional figure between the eras of classical and romanticism of musical history. Even though
his first period was more conventional he grew tired of this and made his second time period ... Show

He took the old methods and twisted to match his style of thinking. As mentioned before, Ludwig used
a D major melody and a B minor harmony all at once. (Discuss) He then called this juxtaposed chords,
which were opposing the old idea where they generally did not mix minor and major chords. If he
changed the way chords were played, then obviously he changed music. Ludwig also influenced
Romantic composers by changing the ideas of programmatic writing. (Discuss) He changed the idea
of writing music from composing just to compose into actually creating a picture in the listeners mind.
Beethoven s Symphony Number Six was the first programmatic symphony where the music was
meant to paint a picture, compared to simply being a series of sounds. (Guthrie) The earlier works of
his period brought the Classical forms to the highest expressive point, expanded the formal, structural
and harmonic terms of his teachers Mozart and Haydn. (Guthrie) While he was influenced by his
teachers, he took their old ways and transformed them into a new version of thinking to help others
actually express themselves through the power of music. He changed the old methods into a new and
improved version. He held onto the old culture without wearing it

Similarities Between Southern Colonies And New England...
In 1607 a group of English settlers built village in Jamestown, Virginia. King Jaime I of England
founded a colony in the first seven months after its arrival. Within these colonies we find the New
England colonies and South Carolina colonies. We will analyze and compare the government systems,
religious and economic development of both colonies and how they were related. We are going to start
discussing the economic aspect of both colonies, it is important to note that the economic activities
and trade of each colony depended on the environment in which the settlers lived. Geography and
climate were important factors that impacted the economic and commercial activities between New
England colonies and Southern colonies because these depended on the environment. The article,
Economy in Colonial New England talks about the economy in the New England colony, it says In
contrast to the southern colonies, which could produce tobacco, rice, and indigo in exchange for
imports, New England s colonies couldn t offer much to England beyond fish, furs, and naval stores.
The New England colonies used the fishing and the construction of boats to maintain economically.
They made soap, clothing and candles. Its exports fish, whale products, boats, wood products, furs,
maple syrup, copper, horses, beer and whiskey. They had problems with agriculture, it was difficult to
plant wheat because the quality of nutrients on the land was poor, but corn, pumpkins, rye and beans

The Cedar Fire
Abigail Beinke
2/20/16
Research Paper
It was on October 21, 2003 at 5:37 pm that the nightmare started. A wildfire, The Cedar Fire , spread
rapidly in the Cleveland National Forest. Communication systems were destroyed and houses burned
to the ground. The fire was contained on November 4, 2003.
It is said that the wildfire was caused by a lost hunter. His name was Sergio Martinez. He is from
Redlands, California. Before starting the fire, he was following his hunter buddy, Ronald Adkins, until
they got separated at 10 a.m. that morning. He lied at first and said he shot his rifle before laying down
to rest in hopes to draw attention. Sergio Martinez then confessed he lit two small signal fires which
later turned into fourteen separate fires. He wanted to improve his chances of being found. The fire he
started was to be a signal fire and one to keep him warm. But as minutes passed, the fire grew out of
control. The fire started near San Diego but Martinez was found in Cold Water Canyon in Beverly
Hills, California one week later. He claims he was doing what he learned in his hunter safety course
back in 2002.
Much damage was done to homes, families, and personal belongings. Martinez said the following
statement in the courtroom, I would like to apologize to all the people who lost loved ones, family ...

centers were merged into one a short time later. The command centers did not initially accept a request
for 25 additional fire engines until it became obvious that homes were about to burn. On the initial

A Plan For A University Facilities Project Manager
INTRODUCTION Teams, as discussed this semester, referred to individuals at one firm brought
together to, for example, complete a project, develop a new product, or define a new process.
However, I as a university facilities project manager, have a different sort of team; one consisting of
individuals from different firms brought together to complete a building project. How might the
principles of team building be utilized in my team consisting of end user group (who will occupy the
building), facilities operations staff, architect, and contractor or construction manager?
The construction industry has utilized a concept called partnering on large projects with the goal of
creating a cooperative environment to minimize conflicts which could result in claims or litigation
(GSA 2016). It is hoped to achieve this goal by creating an environment of trust and open
communication among the participants. Caltrans is a strong advocate of partnering; requiring the
process on all projects over $10 million (Caltrans 2013). They have an admirable field guide and
partnering training program. We also have PMI s Project Management Book of Knowledge providing
guidance in developing a project management plan (PMP). The PMP documents much of what is
covered in partnering sessions. Yet in reviewing the Caltrans field guide, creating PMPs, reading
partnering articles, and participating in partnering sessions myself; the process is missing something.
That missing piece is true team

Police Officers And Police Enforcement Officers Essay
Law enforcement officers are authorized to use different forces based on its situation. Officers face
many circumstances during the period of their job when use of force is necessary. For example,
making arrests, restraining unruled combatants, and while controlling disruptive situations. Incidents
involving the use of excessive force by the police frequently receive media attentions, legislators and
sometimes even criminal courts. To serve better for a community or country a small percentage of
police interactions with citizens involve use of force to server better and protect others from illegal or
criminal minds. NIJ sponsored research explains that police custody arrests (handcuffing) used less
than 20 percent of 7,512 arrests. Even in those cases police used weaponless techniques like grabbing
or holding can be view as minor types of force statistics on police us of force on citizens. The further
support by the research, it indicates that the incidents contain resistance by suspects, their injuries
resulting from the police use of force were typically minor. As part of the police force trainings,
officers are trained to use force progressively along a continuum and policy requires that officers use
the least amount of force necessary to accomplish their goals. The use of force typically occurs when
police are trying to make an arrest and the suspect is resisting. And when injuries occur because of the
use of force, they are likely to be minor. This is also based

Why Do Men Have Feelings Too
Men Have Feelings, Too
By Dr. Vance Hardisty
Jul 13, 2010
Because most men are basically strong and tough, emotionally if not physically, women often take that
for granted and are excepting them to be invincible. Intrinsically? Yes. Although a boy can be
influenced by words such as, Boys don t cry, if he s normal and healthy, he ll discover as he matures,
that the don t cry syndrome in reality is part of his very nature.
Yes, he may cry on the inside, but unless he s been pampered and coaxed as a child so that he is less

Alexander The Great Achievements
William Shakespeare once wrote that some men are born great, some achieve greatness, and others
have greatness thrust upon them. Some historians believe that Alexander III of Macedon fall into some
of these categories, while others do not. This highly regarded ruler is often referred as Alexander the
Great , however, the acknowledgement given by historians to Alexander s father, Philip II of
Macedon, does not sufficiently recognise Philip s achievements as being a major qualifying factor of
Alexander s accomplishments. Conflict wise, Alexander is quite notable for many military
achievements within his short rulership of twelve years, 335 to 323 BC. It is many of these
achievements that derived from and were a major influence from Philip himself. ... Show more content

In Alexander s early years, it is known that his military interests were firstly introduced by Philip and
further encouraged to broaden his knowledge of leadership. This influence began when Philip told his
son, Macedonia is not going to be big enough for you , this indicated that Philip knew Alexander was
going to achieve even bigger things at a younger age (Cawthorne, 2004). Alexander spent his
childhood watching his father transform Macedonia into a great military power, winning victory after
victory on the battle field, making this one of many major influences on Alexander s military success
(Historyofmacedonia.org, 2014). The name of Alexander is forever associated with the conquest of the
Persian Empire. However, the effect of Philip s reign changed Alexander s conquers and achievements
for some of his campaigns were planned by Philip himself, making Alexander notable for the success
of Philip s leadership. Proving Philip s rule was significant; upon his death the Greek cities and
Thessaly seized the chance to try to free themselves from Macedonian rule. This made it very hard for
Alexander to take hold as ruler, however, he used this as an advantage to seize the throne and enforce
himself as the ruler of the people (Williams, 1994). Evidence suggests that Philip was not sufficiently
recognised as an influential figure, Philip has always been overshadowed by his famous son,

Roman Empire Research Paper
Rome has grown since its humble beginnings that it is now overwhelmed by its own greatness. Titus
Livius (59 BC 17 AD). The fall of the Roman Empire is one of the most well known events in history.
However, as thoroughly as it may be studied very few people know the many reasons for the fall of
this empire. This paper s intent is to argue that there are two major internal and two major external
reasons for the fall of this massive empire. Although the Romans were known for the spread of
Christianity, we see that all good things must come to an end. Before discussing why Rome fell we
must introduce the time, place, events and people that were a part of it. The Roman Empire fell in 476
A.D. this empire extended from North western Europe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To understand how the expansion of Rome led to its fall we must first look at how much territory was
truly under the control of the empire. Firstly, in 291 BC after the Samnite Wars, the Roman Empire
colonized the Samnite City of Venosa. In 29 BC, Moesia (modern day Serbia) was added to Rome.
Furthermore, in 16 BC Raetia and Noricum (modern day Austria and Slovenia) were conquered and
added to Rome. In 17 BC, Tiberius expanded his territory to the province of Syria. In addition,
Claudius , in 43 AD added Lycia (modern day Turkey) into the Roman Empire as a province. Now
that we comprehend how large Rome really was, we can explain how it led to the fall of the empire.
As Rome continued to expand more and more, it became difficult to rule and to have a constant
military presence. Even though Rome had already established an excellent road system, it was still
difficult to transmit a message from the capital to all the provinces, ultimately this became one of the
main reasons that the Roman Empire

However, if Mr. M. was attacked in his room and the attackers did gain access as a result of the breach

Marc Lewis Reflection
Critical Thinking Assignment #3 Since I have been reading the life of Marc Lewis I find myself
always becoming more and more excited about what is going to happen next. So far it has been filled
with ups and down and me trying to predict what will happen next on his journey. While reading
chapter 6 I was so elated that Marc had gotten accepted to college, it seems as though he actually has a
plan for himself and is determined to exceed every goal. But normally good things don t always last
for a time and for some reason I could sense that something was about to happen. For those of us who
were not given the opportunity to have a silver spoon in their mouth or even those who had the spoon
but chose not to use it acquire a different meaning in life. Growing up I lived in the projects, with drug
dealers and snotty nosed kids who only aspiration when they grew up was to get out of the projects.
Thankfully at a young age I was adopted by my grandparents and just like Marc Lewis a new door
opened and I was finally given a chance at life itself. I truly believe that when people are presented
with things that inspire them to do better or be better then they will change their attitude on
everything. They begin to create dreams of being successful, studious and eventually become so set in
their goals that even when things go bad they choose not to focus on them because of the complete
turnaround they just achieved. Although marc seemed to be doing great I could tell that he didn t want
to do the complete turnaround, I say this because he was still smoking hash, it was evident that it had
become apart of his new lifestyle whether he actually wanted it to or not. He began to put a phosaude,
almost like when you re high around your parents and try to act as normal as possible. He said that the

Causes and Consequences of Operation Barbarossa Essay
Causes and Consequences of Operation Barbarossa
On June 22nd 1941, German forces crossed the Russian frontier and began to fight their way into
Soviet territory. Operation Barbarossa, Hitler s codename for the attack on Russia, had begun. In this
essay I am going to describe the causes, events and consequences of Operation Barbarossa. What
happened when the unbeatable Hitler and Germany met the sheer determination and patriotism of
Stalin and the USSR?
There were many reasons that contributed to Hitler s invasion of the USSR.
Hitler had always harboured a hatred for the Slavs, he thought they were inferior, impure people who
were only fit to be used as slaves. This was a racist attitude ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They had signed the Anti Comintern Pact in 1936 with Japan, a treaty that specifically opposed
communism, and therefore Stalin s Russia. This showed Hitler was clearly opposed to Stalin and his
principles, which is why entire world was shocked when news of the Nazi Soviet Pact reached them.
In 1939 Hitler and Stalin signed an agreement that meant they formed a temporary alliance. This non
aggression pact could not last; the leaders simply aimed to protect themselves from attack. Hitler and
Stalin were complete political opposites; at one end of the scale was Communism, and at the other end
was Fascism. Hitler and Stalin represented the two political extremes. It was obvious to the world that
this treaty of peace would not last for long.
Western Europe had been safely conquered, except for Britain, which was so weak it would not be
able to attack for several years. As Germany was still at war with Britain when Operation Barbarossa
was beginning, it seemed to Hitler that if the Soviet Union could be defeated it would make the British
more willing to accept peace terms. The Nazi reputation would have received a huge boost people
would become even more fearful of their power.
Sure enough, on December 18th 1940, Hitler signed Directive 21, also known as Operation

UPS bought out the remaining shares of gained ownership of Sinotrans. This gave UPS 89 operating

though: * Foreign airlines cannot run domestic routes * EMS, the local parcel delivery service, is less

High Stakes Testing In High Schools
Schools across the nation are eliminating programs that enhance creativity or even discussions about
the current world events. They all have an identical curriculum and are set up to proceed one type of
mind that processes information in one way. Thus, high stakes testing pressures students to improve
their performance. Lisa Collier states, ... So many Michigan students stayed home when their
assessment tests were given last year that several high schools were threatened with loss of
accreditation. In Illinois, 200 students expressed their scorn for the state s exam by showing up and
deliberately giving the wrong answers. Critics feel the students are being turned off to learning
because they re being force fed the dry facts and figures needed to excel on high stakes tests... The
school is more about testing now, and we have turned away from creative teaching to teach a test and

Forensic Science has contributed to our world a great deal. People often misunderstand Forensic
Science and believe it is much more capable than it really is. As a matter of fact what you see on T.V.

and most known form of Forensic Science. Some of the more known areas include; Fingerprinting,
Ballistics, DNA Identification, Fiber Samples, Computer Animation, Documentation analysis, etc. To

Computer Animation is another valuable aspect in Forensics. Many People believe that they are
getting virtually framed , and that computer animations are inconclusive. This has been shown to be
wrong and is said to be much more accurate then an actual man reenactment. Computers are able to
precisely pinpoint every single aspect of the reenactment. Some argue that this may Create reality and
not illustrate it, but that s up to the court to decide. An example of how this works was used when a
snowplow struck an Iowa State basketball players car killing him. The plow driver was going 10 miles
over the speed limit. This video was recreated and showed a fatal blow the side of the deceased s car.
Although he was speeding this movie was recreated with the plow going the speed limit and he still
would have been fatally killed. The Iowa student didn t look when pulling out into the intersection if
you re wondering. Also, Forensic Scientists use computer animation to simulate the aging or
appearance change in a criminal or deceased individual. Though this is a great technique, things
cannot always be exactly 100% certain on the reconstruction. A lot of the deciding whether this if
valid, is up too the jury souly. This can even help provide the cause of death in a badly degraded

The Allegorical Messages of The Divine Comedy by Dante...
The beginning lines of The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri indicate a pragmatic journey through
the dark woods. It is soon evident that The Divine Comedy is in terms of an allegory. Midway through
his life, Dante finds himself lost and in darkness. He is confused and unaware of how he has ended up
in these dark woods. Dante soon comes across Italian poet Virgil, who will guide him through the
Nine Circles of Hell. Dante Alighieri s The Divine Comedy: Inferno portrays Dante s life and
adventure through Hell which allegorically represents a much broader subject: man s journey through
life to salvation.
The Divine Comedy: Inferno begins when Dante is midway through life and he has lost his way. In the
starting lines, Dante claims, Midway in our life s journey, I went astray From the straight road and
woke To find myself Alone in a dark wood. Dante declares that he has strayed away from the straight
road. In Dante s allegory, the straight road symbolizes the right and virtuous path that leads to God.
Mankind must be constantly seeking morality, and once man begins to lose sight of this righteousness,
they will begin to abandon God s honest path. In order to remain on the right path, man must carefully
strive for virtue and be aware of their sins.
Not knowing how he wandered away from the straight road, Dante finds himself in an eerie, dark
wood. In Dante s Inferno, this dark wood allegorically resembles the people of mankind who are not
consciously aware of

A Documentary On Tattoos And How They Affect Human...
I conducted a survey and three interviews to create a documentary on tattoos and how they affect
human relationships and interactions. This paper is an analysis of what it takes to make a
documentary. Documentary originates from the word document which means a film or article that
records factual information. Documentary means to present facts objectively without editing and
adding fictional information (Stott 6). Some of the first documents are from Benjamin Glassberg in
1938 and Saunders Redding 1951 before the word documentary was even created (Stott 6). At first, a
documentary was known as a human document because it had emotional ties to the information
though it was factual information (Stott 7). Emotion itself is completely subjective because not every
person in the world will have the same emotion to the same event. Thus giving birth to two different
kinds of documentaries official and human. In 1938, photography was introduced into the world of
documentaries by providing photographic proof of factual information. This brought about a bigger
war between objective and subjective documentaries because along with photos came more emotion
(Stott 11). How could an author of an official documentary choose photos without any bias? All this
information made me want to challenge myself and make an objective documentary on tattoos. I
personally have tattoos and plan on obtaining more so the challenge here is to take information
attained and record it without any of my own

Use Of Social Media Platforms On Consumer Behavior
Looking for information is a highly important driver for a consumer to use social media platforms.
Information quality refers to a consumer s assessment of the information presented on a website based
on accuracy, relevance, helpfulness, currency (being up to date), and unbiasness (Cao et al., 2005; Ou
Sia, 2010; Zhang von Dran, 2000). Information is considered to be a key website feature that
influences consumer behavior. Past research (Cao et al.; Day, 1997; Huizingh, 2000; Iyer, 2001;
Katerattanakul Siau, 1999; Ou Sia; Zhang von Dran) has found that information is highly important to
the development of a company s website to draw in and continue to attract online customers.
Interacting with information is described as the process people use in interacting with content (Toms,
2002). If a brand post contains information about the brand or product, then the brand fans
motivations to participate or consume the content of the brand post are realized.
Information content is considered to influence the cognitive (seeking, attending, interpreting, and
critiquing information), affective (excitement toward the information and ultimately the brand and
satisfaction), and behavioral (interacting with the information) components of online brand
engagement. Based on these, the following hypotheses are derived:
H1A: Perceived information quality on a Twitter brand s account that a consumer has followed
positively predicts cognitive online brand engagement.
H1B: Perceived

Ammon Research Paper
Ammon was originally an Aethiopian or Libyan godliness, whose reverence eventually spread all over
Egypt, a section of the northern coast of Africa, and several parts of Greece. The original Egyptian
name was Amun or Ammun; the Greeks referred to him as Zeus Ammon, the Romans knew him as
Jupiter Ammon, and the Hebrews as Amon. In the countries where his reverence was first accepted, he
was worshiped in certain aspects as the supreme divinity , is clear from the fact, that the Greeks
recognized in him their own Zeus, even though the identity of these two deities in later times rests
upon philosophical speculations, created at a time when the original character of Ammon was nearly
lost sight of, and a more spiritual view of him substituted in its place.
In Burton MacDonald s book entitled, Ancient Ammon, he states that Ammon, or Amun was one of

Theories Of Emotional Intelligence
EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE
INTRODUCTION
Emotional intelligence has to do with an individual s ability to understand and manage his or her own
or others feelings and emotions. It involves the ability to perceive and express emotion, assimilate
emotion in thought, understand and reason about emotion and manage emotions in oneself and in
others. People with emotional intelligence are able to identify and recognize the meaning of emotions
and to manage and regulate their emotions as a basis for problem solving, reasoning, thinking, and
action.
In this write up, attempt is made to provide conceptual clarifications on the subject matter, Emotional
intelligence , an overview of the theories of emotional intelligence, including a brief discussion about
how important the role of emotional intelligence can be in leadership, performance (both educational
and work place settings) and in wellbeing.

To some persons, emotional intelligence is defined as study which looks for human cognitive abilities
beyond traditional academic intelligence, (Zeidner et al., 2004). Researchers have categorized their
definition based on the either an ability model or mixed model. Based on the Mandell and Phewanti
(2003) s ability model, emotional intelligence is defined as a set of abilities that involves perceiving
and reasoning abstractly with information that emerges from feelings (p. 389). Studies of John D.
Mayer and Peter Salovey (1997) have supported this model stating that emotional intelligence is
defined as the ability to perceive accurately, appraise, and express emotion; the ability to access and/or
generate feelings when they facilitate thought; the ability to understand emotion and emotional
knowledge; and the ability to regulate emotions to promote emotional and intellectual growth (p. 35).
In addition, Mayer, Salovey, and Caruso (2004) gave the definition of the emotional intelligence as the
capacity to

Increase in competition Currently Dell Wyse cloud connect does not have many direct competitors.
Although it competes with traditional desktops and portable computers, there are not many companies
that produce ultra small, portable high definition and secure desktop on cloud access devices. A major
treat for the company is that more players might enter the industry with similar products which could
lead to further price competition forcing companies to lower their costs which would cause a decline

The industry in which Dell Wyse competes is the global computer hardware manufacturing industry

These criticisms of Aristotle s account of specific justice have focused on two central problems. First,
Aristotle s insistence that all specifically unjust actions are motivated by pleonexia Pleonexia can be
understood as the desire to have more of some socially availablegood, and is usually translated as
greed or acquisitiveness.

Defending one s home, fighting against invaders, when they are attacking the state to preserve one s
family and friends is an example of the application of these qualifications on the virtue of courage.
Considering how this action affects the overall well being of others, we are considering how the action
is generally just. In sum, the distinction being made here is that the same virtue can be seen all by
itself, as a part of the character of an individual only, and where the virtue is in relation to another
person in a particular political community, and its effects on the well being of others in that political
community. We have the same state considered from different perspectives. Aristotle says that justice
is spoken of in two ways: as lawful and as fair. I will discuss general justice first in order to
distinguish it from specific justice. Generally speaking, general justice is concerned with the common
good of the community. In the Politics, Aristotle refers to justice as being a communal virtue.
Similarly, then, we shall say that virtue has a just claim in the dispute, since [general] justice, we say,
is a communal (koinoniken) virtue, which all the other virtues necessarily accompany (Pol.1283a36 39

Symbolism In The Story Of An Hour By Kate Chopin
The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin is an immaculate illustration of how a short story can have the
ability to make a considerable impact on an entire nation. Chopin manipulates her writing effectively
with her outstanding applications of certain literary techniques. Moreover, these techniques such as
pathos, irony and symbolism, amplify the intensity and overall impact women oppression had on
Chopin and many other women during the late nineteenth century. In addition, the story overshadows
the protagonist, Mrs. Mallard, and her persevering fight to overcome the mournful news regarding the
death of her husband. She was informed about her husband s death by her sister Josephine, who told
her in a rather gentle fashion which ultimately caused Mrs. Mallard to go to the hospital with an
unfortunate affliction of heart trouble. Initially, Mrs. Mallard rhapsodically struggled in trying to cope
with this news as it left her in a paralyzed state of sorrow but she then realized that she gained a great
deal of freedom due to to her husband s death. Furthermore, Chopin leaves out many details within her
text, which obligates the reader to fill in the gaps within Chopin s iceberg imagery like writing and
gain a perception of women s mistreatment during the mid 1800 s. Kate Chopin inserts many
applications of pathos within her writing.

relocation, colonization or oppression in the past. The process of cultural revival such as consolidating
political identity, personal rights and recognition often consciously or unconsciously associated with
the minorities. The adaptation of past musical elements and genre into prevailing events in the society.
Huelga song is a great example in illustrating the cultural revival of corridos, and plays an important
role in U.S. American music.
The word huelga means strike in English. Similarly, huelga songs have the traits of articulating
political consciousness among the minorities, and the songs are composed entirely in Spanish. During
the 1960s, when the Chicano Movement began, and cultural revival was being employed. The rights
of Mexican Americans farm workers were exploited by their bosses. They lose their unique culture
while they were aggrieved by oppression and extortion when working in the United States. As a result,
Mexican Americans farmworkers organized strikes to fight for civil rights and liberation struggle. ...

For instance, the song Yo Soy Chicano by Los Alvarados examined the farmworkers experience of its
pre Colombian roots in the civil rights struggles. Through this song, Chicano s identity and culture
were brought up. When translating the lyrics into English, lines like I am Chicano, of color Pure
Chicano, a brother with honor and I am going to fight alongside the Poor, to end this oppression
illustrated that farmworkers sang this song in the revolution to cheer each other up and to be proud of
themselves. This song presented the revival of corrido and celebrated the new sense of Chicano

Who Is Dido In The Aeneid
On the Deaths of Dido and Turnus
In Virgil s Aeneid, the hero is frequently referred to by the epithet Pius Aeneas, or in English, Aeneas
the True . While pius does not necessarily translate to pious in English, it does carry the connotation of
being good and dutiful, in whatever ways the context demands. In Aeneas case, he is dutiful to the
gods and to the quest they give him, as well as to his homeland, his people, and those close to him in
that order. In the Aeneid, there are two times in particular where his sense of duty conflicts with his
personal interest, and both of these situations end in a death. The first are the events that lead to the
death of the Carthaginian queen Dido, and the second are those that lead to the death ... Show more

Juno, unwilling to let the Trojans settle in Latium, sets the populace against them. This populace is
lead by their princess betrothed, Prince Turnus. The war culminates in the second, less official duel
between Turnus and Aeneas. The gods intervene on both sides until Jupiter and Venus convince Juno
to surrender, right before the end of the duel. A Fury scares Turnus out of his strength, allowing
Aeneas to win the duel. It s clear that he considers Turnus plea to stretch not your hatred further , until
he sees that his defeated opponent is wearing Pallas baldric as a trophy and kills him on the spot (XII,
338). This death tells the reader more about Aeneas character than Dido s did. In this case, there were
two dutiful options, rather than only the one which had existed in Carthage. On one hand, Aeneas
could have allowed Turnus to go home, following the advice of his father, Anchises, who told him that
the duty of the future Roman civilization was to show mercy to the conquered, and to wage war until
the haughty are brought low. (VI, 173). On the other hand, he could avenge his close friend, Pallas, a
duty of honor. The choice was left to Aeneas the True, to decide which duty he should follow. His
quest is complete: he is in Italy, and either way, this decision will end the war. When he does choose, it
s obviously spur of the moment, allowing the reader to

Globalisation Essay
Globalisation argumentative essay
Globalisation is a really widespread topic. There are millions of definitions, opinions, organisations
and perspectives because it concerns the whole world. This essay is a try to give some information and
to explain my view of the issue.
The starting point of globalisation is not defined yet, but most scientists think it started in the sixteenth
century, when the first circumnavigation of the Magellan took place. Though, the first sentiment of a
united world was formed by the establishment of the world time zones. At that time international
communication started as well.
Globalisation is an effect of capitalism huge companies want to expand into the whole world for more

So he has to sell to a corporation which supports him with hybrid seeds where the plant blooms just
one time. After that, new ones have to be replanted. The farmers get addicted to the company and has
no other choice.
One square meter of the rainforest costs 10 cent. Huge faces have been chopped for the plantation of
soy for animal food in Europe. The farmers of these fields have to suffer from hunger and to drink
polluted water.
These are just a few of the (of course true) approaches of the anti capitalism organisations like
ATTAC.
Personally, I think that at the moments the negative effects of globalisation prevail. In an interview the
CEO of Nestlé, the world s biggest food corporation, Peter Brabeck said that there are two opinions
about the most important raw material water. The first one (and people who think like that) is really
extreme: it says that every human being should have free access to water. The other (and of course it is
his own opinion) is that water is really precious and has to be sold.
When I hear such statements I think that CEOs of multinational companies should change their
opinions and strategies. The main idea of globalisation is not bad and there are already several
advantages and positive effects. But only for people who live in the first world and get a job in a
corporation. The aim for the next years should be to work out plans how to improve the situation of
poor countries, how they can join the competition and how the

  • 2. Troylynn Case Study On Monday July 17th I was approached by TroyLynn Craft about the upcoming entry level interview questions Captain Browne and I had been working on. She began with saying it was her opinion that our questions contained too many follow up questions , and that she thought it would confuse our candidates. I suggested we sit, and read through each of them together to address her concerns. At the onset of our meeting, I read through all the questions and determined we only had three follow up questions, but we adjusted them none the less. TroyLynn had issue with questions number two, three, and eight. One specifically addresses the diverse communities we serve, and our diverse work force (#8). She said, this is not a diverse department, I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She went to look up the definition of diversity on her desktop, and I stated, The intent of the question is to determine if the candidate understands diversity, and more importantly whether they can speak to delivering service to our customers equitably . TroyLynn then preceded to look up the word equitably in front of me just as she had the word diversity. It wasn t clear whether she was looking it up to confirm its definition for me or herself. Rather than make an issue over the finite details of the question, I suggested taking out the part she had issue with, and we did. The question now reads: Clackamas fire serves a diverse community; if hired how do you plan to champion that? I asked TroyLynn some qualifying questions after the edits were made. Why don t you think we are a diverse fire department? She replied: The only African Americans we have are not on the line, and the one we had as a volunteer took a job with Portland because he would be more comfortable there . She went on to say; well, we have Oscar but he identifies as white, but we do have two in our new academy . I asked; Are we currently doing anything to fix our lack of diversity ? • 3. Pros And Cons Of Government Intervention Why is it good or bad for the US Government to intervene or impose its power on the economy? We first must understand what regulatory economics is before we can answer this question. Regulatory economics is the application of law by government or independent administrative agencies for various purposes. These include remedying market failure, protecting the environment, centrally planning an economy, enriching well connected firms, or benefitting politicians. This is basically saying legislation imposed by a government on individuals and private sector firms in order to regulate and modify economic behaviors. Now something as complex as this can t be answered with just a simple good or bad response. There are many historical events that have good and bad evidence of the United States government intervening on the economy. The controversy is mainly with regulation. There are also different elements to regulation: 1) Public statutes standards or statements of expectations, 2) A registration or licensing process to approve and permit the operation of a service ... I don t agree with all of the rules and regulations that the government has passed, but without government intervention I believe the US Economy would become an inefficient market. My top reasons for siding with Government intervention are; 1) The government does its best to combat market inequities through regulations, taxation, and subsidies. 2) The government intervenes to promote general economic fairness. 3) The government maximizes social welfare through breaking up monopolies, regulating negative externalities such as pollution, etc. 4) Governments may intervene in markets to promote other goals such as national unity and ... • 4. Project Management Failures And Its Effects On The Mine Project Management Failures The other evident failure was that the management did not address concerns that were raised in regards to high volumes of harmful gases in the mine. Pike River Coal Mine s managers were more concerned about producing huge volumes of coal, instead of protecting their employees from avoidable accidents. For instance, reports of high methane levels were not addressed appropriately. Instead of investing in safety procedures, the managers let their employees work in a dangerous environment. One major problem that caused this accident was the frequent changing of the top management. Leaders were replaced without even addressing the safety issues that had been raised by the employees. Pike River Coal Mine could have hired well trained managers to oversee operations at the mine for the long term. Complaints of excessive methane gas could have been handled by installing stable fans and ventilation systems. This gesture could have helped create a safe working environment for the miners. Leakages could also have been controlled to limit the volumes of methane gas in the underground mine. These strategies could have been followed to protect employees from fatal respiratory diseases as well as fire accidents (Perrow, 2002). The initial project failure was the idea of constructing a coal mine in a mountainous terrain. The construction of Pike River Coal Mine was based on experience gained from bore hole exploration procedures. The required procedures for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He speaks on how a man named Joey is reminiscing about his mom and the house they lived in when he was just a young boy. Updike extensively uses flashbacks and imagery to create the grand story. Firstly, The story goes from present to past many times. There s multitudes of flashbacks that he uses to explain who his mom was and what the house meant to his family. The flashbacks help convey who his mom was as a person and the life that he grew up. The story starts by going back 40 years to the time of World War Two, this is of the time before they bought the house and they were looking at it to potentially buy it. They bought the house the next year ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This excerpt really shows how into detail Updike goes, it s really great because it helps convey what is going on in the story so everything can be seen clearly as he wants the reader to see. Joey is going through the basement and there s a description of how he does it and it has imagery anda use of an onomatopoeia in it, Joey s city shoes slithered on the smooth floor, and then thumped on the wooden cellar stairs. (129) This really helps the reader see what s happening as if he s there. The onomatopoeia helps strengthen the imagery present in the sentence. Towards the end of the story Joey explores his father s toolhouse, it was a pathetic one. His father wasn t a manly man and didn t get much use out of it, In the toolhouse, where his father had left a pathetic legacy of rusty screws and nails neatly arranged in jars, and oily tools, half of them broken, mounted on rotting pegboard, there were also antique implements worn like prehistoric artifacts ... How Did Beethoven Change Music Ludwig Van Beethoven, was the composer who changed music more than any other composer, the sound of music and what the other composers that were to come after him thought. He wrote nine symphonies, five piano concertos, an opera and many pieces of chamber music that jolted music right out of itself. (Landon) Beethoven changed music by creating a new era called Romanticism, influencing the other composers and changing the old methods by adding a special twist. The first way that Beethoven changed music was by creating romanticism. Ludwig is viewed as the most transitional figure between the eras of classical and romanticism of musical history. He took the old methods and twisted to match his style of thinking. As mentioned before, Ludwig used a D major melody and a B minor harmony all at once. (Discuss) He then called this juxtaposed chords, which were opposing the old idea where they generally did not mix minor and major chords. If he changed the way chords were played, then obviously he changed music. Ludwig also influenced Romantic composers by changing the ideas of programmatic writing. (Discuss) He changed the idea of writing music from composing just to compose into actually creating a picture in the listeners mind. Beethoven s Symphony Number Six was the first programmatic symphony where the music was meant to paint a picture, compared to simply being a series of sounds. (Guthrie) The earlier works of his period brought the Classical forms to the highest expressive point, expanded the formal, structural and harmonic terms of his teachers Mozart and Haydn. A wildfire, The Cedar Fire , spread rapidly in the Cleveland National Forest. Communication systems were destroyed and houses burned to the ground. The fire was contained on November 4, 2003. It is said that the wildfire was caused by a lost hunter. His name was Sergio Martinez. He is from Redlands, California. Before starting the fire, he was following his hunter buddy, Ronald Adkins, until they got separated at 10 a.m. that morning. He lied at first and said he shot his rifle before laying down to rest in hopes to draw attention. Sergio Martinez then confessed he lit two small signal fires which later turned into fourteen separate fires. He wanted to improve his chances of being found. The fire he started was to be a signal fire and one to keep him warm. But as minutes passed, the fire grew out of control. The fire started near San Diego but Martinez was found in Cold Water Canyon in Beverly Hills, California one week later. However, I as a university facilities project manager, have a different sort of team; one consisting of individuals from different firms brought together to complete a building project. How might the principles of team building be utilized in my team consisting of end user group (who will occupy the building), facilities operations staff, architect, and contractor or construction manager? The construction industry has utilized a concept called partnering on large projects with the goal of creating a cooperative environment to minimize conflicts which could result in claims or litigation (GSA 2016). It is hoped to achieve this goal by creating an environment of trust and open communication among the participants. Caltrans is a strong advocate of partnering; requiring the process on all projects over $10 million (Caltrans 2013). They have an admirable field guide and partnering training program. We also have PMI s Project Management Book of Knowledge providing guidance in developing a project management plan (PMP). The PMP documents much of what is covered in partnering sessions. Some historians believe that Alexander III of Macedon fall into some of these categories, while others do not. This highly regarded ruler is often referred as Alexander the Great , however, the acknowledgement given by historians to Alexander s father, Philip II of Macedon, does not sufficiently recognise Philip s achievements as being a major qualifying factor of Alexander s accomplishments. In Alexander s early years, it is known that his military interests were firstly introduced by Philip and further encouraged to broaden his knowledge of leadership. This influence began when Philip told his son, Macedonia is not going to be big enough for you , this indicated that Philip knew Alexander was going to achieve even bigger things at a younger age (Cawthorne, 2004). Alexander spent his childhood watching his father transform Macedonia into a great military power, winning victory after victory on the battle field, making this one of many major influences on Alexander s military success (Historyofmacedonia.org, 2014). The name of Alexander is forever associated with the conquest of the Persian Empire. However, the effect of Philip s reign changed Alexander s conquers and achievements for some of his campaigns were planned by Philip himself, making Alexander notable for the success of Philip s leadership. Proving Philip s rule was significant; upon his death the Greek cities and Thessaly seized the chance to try to free themselves from Macedonian rule. This made it very hard for Alexander to take hold as ruler, however, he used this as an advantage to seize the throne and enforce himself as the ruler of the people (Williams, 1994). The fall of the Roman Empire is one of the most well known events in history. However, as thoroughly as it may be studied very few people know the many reasons for the fall of this empire. This paper s intent is to argue that there are two major internal and two major external reasons for the fall of this massive empire. Although the Romans were known for the spread of Christianity, we see that all good things must come to an end. Furthermore, in 16 BC Raetia and Noricum (modern day Austria and Slovenia) were conquered and added to Rome. In 17 BC, Tiberius expanded his territory to the province of Syria. In addition, Claudius , in 43 AD added Lycia (modern day Turkey) into the Roman Empire as a province. Now that we comprehend how large Rome really was, we can explain how it led to the fall of the empire. As Rome continued to expand more and more, it became difficult to rule and to have a constant military presence. Even though Rome had already established an excellent road system, it was still difficult to transmit a message from the capital to all the provinces, ultimately this became one of the main reasons that the Roman Empire ... It was obvious to the world that this treaty of peace would not last for long. Western Europe had been safely conquered, except for Britain, which was so weak it would not be able to attack for several years. As Germany was still at war with Britain when Operation Barbarossa was beginning, it seemed to Hitler that if the Soviet Union could be defeated it would make the British more willing to accept peace terms. The Nazi reputation would have received a huge boost people would become even more fearful of their power. Sure enough, on December 18th 1940, Hitler signed Directive 21, also known as Operation ... It is soon evident that The Divine Comedy is in terms of an allegory. Midway through his life, Dante finds himself lost and in darkness. He is confused and unaware of how he has ended up in these dark woods. Dante soon comes across Italian poet Virgil, who will guide him through the Nine Circles of Hell. Dante Alighieri s The Divine Comedy: Inferno portrays Dante s life and adventure through Hell which allegorically represents a much broader subject: man s journey through life to salvation. The Divine Comedy: Inferno begins when Dante is midway through life and he has lost his way. In the starting lines, Dante claims, Midway in our life s journey, I went astray From the straight road and woke To find myself Alone in a dark wood. Dante declares that he has strayed away from the straight road. In Dante s allegory, the straight road symbolizes the right and virtuous path that leads to God. Mankind must be constantly seeking morality, and once man begins to lose sight of this righteousness, they will begin to abandon God s honest path. In order to remain on the right path, man must carefully strive for virtue and be aware of their sins. • 29. A Documentary On Tattoos And How They Affect Human... I conducted a survey and three interviews to create a documentary on tattoos and how they affect human relationships and interactions. This paper is an analysis of what it takes to make a documentary. Documentary originates from the word document which means a film or article that records factual information. Documentary means to present facts objectively without editing and adding fictional information (Stott 6). Some of the first documents are from Benjamin Glassberg in 1938 and Saunders Redding 1951 before the word documentary was even created (Stott 6). At first, a documentary was known as a human document because it had emotional ties to the information though it was factual information (Stott 7). Emotion itself is completely subjective because not every person in the world will have the same emotion to the same event. Thus giving birth to two different kinds of documentaries official and human. In 1938, photography was introduced into the world of documentaries by providing photographic proof of factual information. This brought about a bigger war between objective and subjective documentaries because along with photos came more emotion (Stott 11). How could an author of an official documentary choose photos without any bias? All this information made me want to challenge myself and make an objective documentary on tattoos. It s clear that he considers Turnus plea to stretch not your hatred further , until he sees that his defeated opponent is wearing Pallas baldric as a trophy and kills him on the spot (XII, 338). This death tells the reader more about Aeneas character than Dido s did. In this case, there were two dutiful options, rather than only the one which had existed in Carthage. On one hand, Aeneas could have allowed Turnus to go home, following the advice of his father, Anchises, who told him that the duty of the future Roman civilization was to show mercy to the conquered, and to wage war until the haughty are brought low. (VI, 173). On the other hand, he could avenge his close friend, Pallas, a duty of honor. The choice was left to Aeneas the True, to decide which duty he should follow. His quest is complete: he is in Italy, and either way, this decision will end the war. When he does choose, it s obviously spur of the moment, allowing the reader to ... • 45. Globalisation Essay Globalisation argumentative essay Globalisation is a really widespread topic. There are millions of definitions, opinions, organisations and perspectives because it concerns the whole world. This essay is a try to give some information and to explain my view of the issue. The starting point of globalisation is not defined yet, but most scientists think it started in the sixteenth century, when the first circumnavigation of the Magellan took place. Though, the first sentiment of a united world was formed by the establishment of the world time zones. At that time international communication started as well. Globalisation is an effect of capitalism huge companies want to expand into the whole world for more profit and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So he has to sell to a corporation which supports him with hybrid seeds where the plant blooms just one time. After that, new ones have to be replanted. The farmers get addicted to the company and has no other choice. One square meter of the rainforest costs 10 cent. Huge faces have been chopped for the plantation of soy for animal food in Europe. The farmers of these fields have to suffer from hunger and to drink polluted water. These are just a few of the (of course true) approaches of the anti capitalism organisations like ATTAC. Personally, I think that at the moments the negative effects of globalisation prevail. In an interview the CEO of Nestlé, the world s biggest food corporation, Peter Brabeck said that there are two opinions about the most important raw material water. The first one (and people who think like that) is really extreme: it says that every human being should have free access to water. The other (and of course it is his own opinion) is that water is really precious and has to be sold. When I hear such statements I think that CEOs of multinational companies should change their opinions and strategies. The main idea of globalisation is not bad and there are already several advantages and positive effects. But only for people who live in the first world and get a job in a corporation. The aim for the next years should be to work out plans how to improve the situation of poor countries, how they can join the competition and how the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
