ECG uses an electrolyte fluid and electric current to remove material from a workpiece for grinding. The electrolyte fluid conducts electricity between an electrode tool and the conductive workpiece material, allowing controlled material removal through electrochemical and mechanical processes. A similar process called electrochemical honing (ECH) can provide mirror finishes on metal surfaces.
