Effective inventory management is important for eye hospitals to ensure the right equipment, instruments, and supplies are available in the required quantities at the right time. This involves techniques like ABC analysis to categorize inventory items based on their consumption value and prioritize controlling high value items. It also involves layout of storage areas, periodic review of inventory quality, and maintaining optimal stock levels to balance having enough supplies without overstocking. The objectives are to deliver services without disruptions while minimizing costs associated with inventory.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

logistics channel” (Ballou, 1998).
“An Inventory is a document that lists all the items in stock that are required for the
efficient functioning of the Eye Hospital”
“Inventory management is a set of techniques and methods employed to assure in each

5. Effective Inventory Management in Eye Hospital
Inventory Control is defined as the supervision of Supply, Storage & Accessibility of items in
order to ensure an adequate supply without oversupply.
The objective of Inventory Management is to have the appropriate quantity of materials in
the Right Place, at the Right Time and at Low Cost.
Strike Best Balance Between “too much and too little”
05
6. Need for Inventory Control
• Inventories constitute the most significant part of the current assets,
representing as much as 60%-80% of the Capital Investment. Therefore, it is
absolutely imperative to Manage Inventories Effectively and Efficiently in
order to avoid unnecessary investments.
• If the Hospital’s inventory level is too low, it risks delays in fulfilling efficient
service delivery.
If the inventory level is too high, it is using up money that can be better used
in other areas. It also risks obsolescence & spoilage.
• In a Hospital, about one-third of the Annual Expenses spent on buying
Medicines / Supplies. To minimize the inventory investment, the Hospital may
keep the inventory low without compromising with Efficient Service Delivery.

7. ABC Analysis:
ABC analysis is based on Pareto principle (80-20 rule) which states that 80% of
the overall consumption value (expense) is based only on 20% of the total items. i.e.
small portion of the items may typically represent the bulk of money value, while a
relatively large number of items may form a small part of the money value.
ABC analysis is a method for dividing on-hand Inventory into three classifications A, B, C
based on annual consumption unit.
Effective Inventory Management in Eye Hospital
‘A’ items : money value is highest 70%, represent only 10% of items
‘B’ items : money value is medium 20%, represent about 20% of items
‘C’ items : money value is lowest 10%, represent about 70% of items

8. Effective Inventory Management in Eye Hospital
ABC Analysis for prioritization of items which require
Efficient Controlling Techniques for Effective Inventory Management
ABC analysis Annual Consumption Value (%) Total Inventory Items (%)
A - items 70-80 10-20
B - items 15-25 30-40
C - items 05 50
Management policies for ABC Categorization:
• Managing all the Inventories in Hospital will take personal time and costs
money.
• ABC classification shows that not all the Inventories need to be controlled with
equal attention.

9. Effective Inventory Management in Eye Hospital
Layout of Hospital’s Central Warehouse
Shelves and Racks can help organize inventory

10. Effective Inventory Management in Eye Hospital
Advantages Disadvantages
1. Selective Control over such items
which are having sizable investment
Considers only money value of items
and neglects the importance of items for
the Service Delivery process2. Helps to point out obsolete Stocks
easily
3. Provides Sound basis for allocation of
funds and HR
It does not categorize the items based on
their critical needs, hence, sometimes the
purpose of ABC categorization may be
defeated.
4. Enables the maintenance of high
Inventory turn over rate
Advantages and Disadvantages of ABC Analysis:
10
11. VED Analysis: VED ( V-Vital, E-Essential, D-Desirable)
Classification is based on the Criticality of the Inventories, in contrast to
ABC classification which is based on Consumption Value.
Vital (V): The Medicines / Supplies critically needed for service delivery, must be
available in the Hospital all the times.
Essential (E): Medicines / Supplies lower critically needed, which may be available in
the Hospital.
Desirable (D): The remaining Medicines / Supplies lowest critically needed, the
absence of which will not be detrimental to Service Delivery.
Effective Inventory Management in Eye Hospital
11
12. “Key Take Home Messages”
Monitoring stock usage by keeping accurate records to predict future usage and
plan orders
Standardization of stocked items is desirable to reduce cost and improve quality
Optimal Stock Management to ensure uninterrupted services
Better to make big orders, less frequently for cost effectiveness
Effective Negotiation with vendors based upon projected Annual Service Delivery
to obtain maximum discount on supplies
Investing in Effective Inventory Management Systems ensure Efficient Service
Delivery
