Comprehensive Sex Education Report
All three of these sex educators also spoke to different elements that make the current high school sex
education system damaging to its students. Ms. Corrado related: I think one of the big things is fear
mongering around STIs. Which leads to higher incident rates instead of actually reducing incident
rates, because fear will not actually stop them from doing it , but it just leads to people not knowing
safer sex techniques and not knowing they are transmitting [STIs]. This supports the CDC report
mentioned earlier, about the increasing number of students engaging in sexual activity and becoming
infected with STIs, despite being in abstinence based programs. For Ms. Basler Francis the main issue
was something else entirely: she believes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the SIECUS studies have shown, and from the information gathered from the Center for Sexual
Pleasure and Health Study Sex College tour, students leave comprehensive sex education classes and
workshops with more knowledge, better resources and with less shame about their desires. Despite my
obvious biases towards comprehensive sex education I truly believe that the current system is creating
the exact issues that pro abstinence groups are trying to prevent. Due to their use of shame and scare
tactics, teens are avoiding communication with sexual/romantic partners, not turning to adults in times
of need, unknowingly contracting STIs and infecting others and feeling all around ashamed of the
sexual desires. This is a system that turns an eye away from preventative measures like birth control
and condoms, as well as demonizes people who become pregnant and vilifies those who have
abortions. But most importantly it makes people scared to explore what they want sexually, even more
afraid to ask for what they desire and completely unable to respond to issues where their consent was
given. These are all issues that can be avoided if children in kindergarten through twelfth grade were
provided the information they needed to understand their bodies and more importantly how to use
them, and take care of them. Our culture expects people to automatically know what to do, how to
protect ourselves and be our own sexual advocates, but cringes at the idea of actually teaching those
skills. Nothing will change until we decide that people who are asking the questions are old enough
and prepared to actually hear the

Guanxi Neglect at the Roaring Dragon in South west China:
The demise of an International Management Contract

guanxi neglect neglecting opportunities to show respect towards guanxi relationships
Abstract
This paper introduces the concept of guanxi neglect through a case study that describes the takeover of
a formerly Chinese managed hotel by a western based, international hotel management company.
Specifically, it covers the cultural conflict that occurred for employees trying to adapt from the former
Chinese relationship
(guanxi) based planned methods of hotel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some recalled if your relatives or your friends knew that you were working in Roaring Dragon, you
would be admired , it was a good work unit danwei , and you were lucky if you worked there 3.
The original Hotel was a four storey, rectangular, grey structure built in 1960 in a dull
Russian style. By 1993, the provincial government had funded a new extension and the Hotel now
consisted of two parts: the old four storey section joined by a modern sixteen storey extension perched
on a hill behind the old Russian. There was a contrast in the standard of accommodation. Room rates
were cheaper in the old section and so it attracted Chinese visitors searching for quality economy
accommodation. Visiting government officials and higher end customers on the other hand felt more
comfortable in the newer and naturally more expensive section. There were two guarded entrances to
the Hotel, one on each level. A series of stairways, elevators and a warren of banquet rooms, hallways,
storage areas, offices, cafeterias, and a laundry untidily connected the two buildings.
Reflection on a 1993 Experience
The Roaring Dragon was a Chinese managed SOE until the opening of the new extension in 1993
when the provincial government decided to contract an international company to manage the Hotel
with the objective of improving the quality of customer service. KYZ Corporation was identified as a
suitable international management organisation and was

Both Views on Criminal Disenfranchisement
The American Constitution, as outlined in the Preamble, boldly defines its purpose as We the People
(U.S. Constitution). Reasonableness suggests that the framers of the Constitution would provide
appropriate legislation enhancing the citizenship s right to actively participate in government via
public elections given such a definitive statement expanding on the power of the people. However,
American citizens do not possess a constitutionally protected right to vote. During the drafting period
of the Constitution, only white male property owners could vote, however, voting rights have
drastically changed throughout the history of the United States. Through amendments passed over the
past two centuries, the Constitution has changed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Criminal disenfranchisement, while currently upheld by Supreme Court review, has a growing base of
supporters for the overturning of such exclusionary practices. In fact, according to a recent study, the
majority of the mass public, between 52 and 80 percent depending on the crime committed, vastly
supports the re enfranchisement of previously convicted felons not currently imprisoned (Manza,
Brooks, Uggen, 2003). State laws restricting the rights of a convicted felon to vote, even after
completing a penal sentence remain inconsistent, at best. The disparity between the states application
of the varying degrees of criminal disenfranchisement raises concerns over the validity of the actions
when affecting a federal voting right; the ability to vote in a federal election is being mandated by the
states, without direction, structure or federal oversight. When the Constitution was written, only white
male property owners (about 10 to 16 percent of the nation s population) had the right to vote (Crews,
2007). While over the past two centuries the perseverance and machinations of checks and balances of
power within the government have transformed the United States into a government by the people,
criminal disenfranchisement penalties remain vastly unchanged until recently due to power entrusted
to each state to govern its people. By the onset of the Civil War

The American Work, The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald
To many of us writing can be a daunting task, and often more complicated than it should be, but, as
stated by famed American author Ernest Hemingway, There is nothing to writing, All you do is sit
down at a typewriter and bleed . The fact of the matter is, eventually blood clots, and scabs form. It s
the same in writing; many authors bleed onto a page and use their metaphorical blood as ink, thus
placing a piece of themselves into their work. But, no matter how great the author, eventually writer
block ensues, casting a writer into a literary funk and halting the flow of thematic ideas; however,
themes such as love and wealth transcend time, culture, and language. So it s not difficult to think that
famed authors, when in a pinch, often recycle broad themes to create a more compelling and relatable
story. In the American work, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and its cinematic counterpart,
directed by Baz Lutherman, themes such as wealth, love, isolation, and dissatisfaction are used to
create a novel that still holds parallels to the world of today.
The theme of wealth is prevalent in the works of the The Great Gatsby. The wealthy are portrayed as
educated businessmen who have found a prosperous niche, often illegally. Persons with enough
money are held in higher esteem than their middle class compatriots. In Gatsby s world money buys
social acceptance, and it also grants living in the world without repercussions. In chapter four of The
Great Gatsby, Gatsby, on his

Automatic Transmission Essay
ABSTRACT
The transmission in a car which works automatically depending on the vehicle speed and engine speed
is called as automatic transmission while as a manual transmission is the one there is a manual clutch
pedal used while changing gears that allow the driver to change the gears as per driving needs. In a
country like India, automatic transmission gives only a driving pleasure to the driver in heavy traffic
as there is no need of changing gears because of the fact that it lacks a clutch paddle system which
gives complete rest to one leg of the driver. Manual transmission fails to provide such an added
benefit to drivers. But in developing countries, the idea of an automatic transmission is not wise and
applicable to all due to the economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the selection of reverse mode , the driver must come to a complete stop, depress the shift lock
button and select reverse. Severe damage may be caused to the transmission if the car is not made to
come to a complete stop. Most of the modern day automatic transmissions have a safety mechanism in
place, which prevents putting the car in reverse when the vehicle is moving forward.
3. Neutral / No gear (N)
This mode is almost same as in manual cars where it allows the vehicle to coast freely under its own
weight and gain momentum without the motive force from the engine. 4. Drive (D)
This mode of the transmission is to engage the full range of available gear which allows the vehicle to
move forward and accelerate through the range of gears. In this mode the gear changes automatically
as the cars gains speed. The number of gear ratios within the transmission depends on the model, but
initially they ranged from three to four and five speeds gears. Six speed automatic transmissions are
the most common in cars and trucks. However, seven speed automatics are also being available in
some high performance production luxury cars as are eight speed

What in your view, was the short term significance of Michael Collins?
Michael Collins played a major part in Ireland s History, in the years 1916 23. He had a short but
political life where he had increasingly been involved in events such as the Easter Rising, Anglo Irish
War, Treaty Negotiations and the Civil War. Although he was only active over a relatively short period
of time, his significance in such events was profound. His public image changed throughout the years,
from one of the UKs most wanted men to a reasonable politician. In 1916 during the Easter Rising his
role was relatively low key, but by 1922 he ultimately gave his life in the Civil War for what he
believed in.

The canteen staff in Frongoch described Collins as highly respected and when they took problems to
him he always listened logically 4. This helps us understand Michael Collins short term significance
because he learnt from the military blunders made; such as the seizure of indefensible and very
vulnerable positions like St Stephen s Green5 and filled the vacuum made by the executions of the
leaders of the Rising. Likewise, Frongoch would have been different without Collins as the internees
wouldn t have been able to hold out and the Irish wouldn t have developed such a fighting force. It s a
useful source because they were employed to work in the Frongoch canteens so they are indifferent to
Collins, which gives this source a high weight of argument which can be generalised to how others
must have seen him who weren t closely involved with him. Then again, as it is written so long after, it
can be doubted On the contrary, the source was wrote over half a century later, so it s questionable
how far someone can precisely remember what the canteen staff thought about Collins.
Michael Collins had many responsibilities after leaving Frongoch. He was appointed Finance Minister
and is described as the unlikely Finance Minister who proved himself an administrator par excellence.
6 Collins produced a Finance Ministry that was able to organise a

Movement Framing Examples
The act of framing is without a doubt a tactical strategy. During the organization of a social
movement, framing was as a way to assign meaning (McAdam, 339) or look at events in ways that
could inspire support from both group members and the common people while subjugating the
opposing party. McAdam (339) states, Mediating between opportunity and action are people and the...
meanings they attach to their situations. The events that occur during the rise of a social movement all
present opportunities to help members achieve their goal but in order to even act upon these
opportunities, the people involved must frame their situation in a way that will draw support to their
cause. During the Civil Rights movement, the use of framing, on both sides, greatly influenced the
outcome of social reform. McAdam states that there are six strategies social movement groups can
employ to bring about change. In the case of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and the Southern Christian
Leadership Conference (SCLC), even though blacks could now vote legal subterfuge and extralegal
intimidation prevented them from taking part of political reform in the south (McAdam, 345). This
intimidation extended as far as murder to prevent the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King and SCLC are a prime examples of the use of framing; drawing great media coverage with the
use of nonviolent tactics. The use of these provocative strategies created a demand for answers.
McAdams (347) states quite simply, no black leader ever sounded like King... Dr. King s ideology was
new and profound, mixing Christian and Democratic ideas; the most important, framing the movement
as a way to heal the nation after such a long period of segregation and racial discrimination. King and
the SCLC also depended on the violent nature of their opponents in the south to further frame their
movement. By framing the violence that took place in Birmingham and Selma, the civil rights
movement was able to generate a great deal of sympathetic media

Approaches to Government Control on Expenditure
1. INTRODUCTION Money is central to the functioning of a government, revenue is generated by the
imposition of taxes and the money received is then spent by the Commonwealth subject to
appropriation. The scope of the governments capacity to spend public moneys has been a controversial
issue for many years, due to the uncertainty surrounding the scope of the spending power. This essay
will determine which approach to Government s control on expenditure is more favourable; the
narrow approach, where Commonwealth s financial expenditure should be limited to expenses
authorised by statute or the wide approach, where the Government should have unlimited spending
power. In order to determine this it is necessary to discuss the different Court s conclusions and
principles that apply in the interpretation of the relevant sections of the Constitution, specifically the
appropriation provisions ss 81 and 83, executive powers provision s 61 and s 96 relating to State
grants. This essay will also evaluate other cases to discuss the effects and developments they have had
on determining the scope of Government s spending power. 2. SCOPE OF SECTION 81 2.1
Executive Government s Appropriation Powers Commonwealth Parliament makes money available to
the Executive Government to spend on a range of matters. An appropriation of money is needed
before Parliament can lawfully spend moneys received. This is usually done through Appropriation
Acts and through annual budgets. Sections 81 and 83

Maurice and Richard McDonald based every decision on what they wanted McDonald s to be, which
was fast, clean, and delicious. Since they had trouble maintaining quality among earlier franchisee,
they made sure to put in protections from franchisee abusing their name and their business. The
implications of their decisions were that they did not like change, and so they rejected all of Ray s
ideas. Those ideas included designs that alter the building furnace, adding a basement, a coke cola
sponsorship, request for additional revenue, attempting to renegotiate their franchise fee percentage,
and the use of powder milkshake. The one thing they could have done differently was to be more
willing to consider a change to improve their business. They did not identify with the state of their

A Brief Note On Asp.net And Cloud Computing Essay
ASP.NET Cloud Computing A research report Prepared for: Tony Assadi IT7x11 Advanced Internet
Application Development Whitireia Community Polytechnic, Porirua Prepared by: Maen Terawasi
Student ID: 21103436 Date Submitted: 10 April 2015 Executive Summary The ASP.NET Framework
offers a development environment that comes with various tools and technologies that aid developers
in building enterprise class web services, websites, and web apps. Along with this ASP.NET is part of
the Microsoft .NET Framework which gives the ability to utilize classes within the .NET Framework.
With the implementation of Cloud computing platforms and ASP.NET the benefits offered by
combining the two proves to be significant in terms of cutting down costs, management, maintenance,
and the need for resources since most cloud providers are already providing SaaS (software as a
service), PaaS (platform as a service), and IaaS (infrastructure as a service) altogether. However
demand to move onto the cloud is substantially increasing resulting in the massive surge of cloud
providers coming into existence. With various cloud provider competitors out there Windows Azure
which is a Microsoft cloud platform is one of the more notable cloud providers when it comes to
ASP.NET applications and services over the web. Introduction The main objective of this research
report is to present and critically answer questions that have been designed specifically to look at

The World War I At The Time Known As The Great War
World War I, at the time known as the Great War, was a global war that happened mainly in Europe
where the Allied Powers, formed mainly by France, Great Britain, and Russia, were against the
Central Powers, formed by Germany, Austria Hungary, Italy, and the Ottoman Empire. Someone who
doesn t have a thorough knowledge about the War would be quick to say the causes were economical
or ideological or that the direct cause was the death of Franz Ferdinand of Austria Hungary but it is
more complicated than that. Franz Ferdinand s death was nothing more than a detonator. Although

Militarism, on the other hand, is the belief or wish of a government or people that a country should
maintain a strong military capability and be prepared to use it aggressively to defend or promote
national interests. During this time European countries increased their military might far beyond what
was necessary for a strong national defense; a large standing army symbolized power. This made easy
for a government to immediately use the force when any dispute broke among nations. Finally was the
Slavic brotherhood between Russia and Serbia. They have common ancestry and origin. Russia
responded to that bond by backing up Serbia. This is very important because if Russia wouldn t have
joined the war, it would have been only between Austria Hungary with Germany s support and Serbia.
The main economical causes were the second industrial revolution and the Balkan Wars. The second
industrial revolution brought a rise in the economy due to all the new inventions and discoveries. One
of the most important was the petroleum industry which begun in Scotland in the late 1840s. Also, the
increase in steel production meant that rails could be built at a better price and with a much more
durable material. This revolution brought the increase in many technologies used in World War I like
the gas bombs which would burn the lungs of whoever inhaled it.

found still intact. The documentary is mostly surrounded by scientists finding out what kind of life this
human had, how he died, and what his DNA looked like. Scientists only had 9 hours to go into the
mummified remains and extract DNA, try to look at the murder weapon lodged in the iceman s
shoulder, and look into his stomach without destroying the remains (Iceman Murder Mystery). They
also looked at the items found on the iceman to see if that had any answers into the iceman s life. They
found a shoe on him, a copper axe, a knife, and arrows that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They found ibex and einkorn in his stomach which reveals that Otzi died during the beginning of
agriculture. Scientist believe the Iceman was at the start of agriculture because einkorn was one of the
first grains to be domesticated and farmed. His diet also had a lot of meat which also indicated he
lived during the beginning of agriculture because he ate grains but the majority of his diet was still
meat based. Otzi had a copper axe, bow and arrows, and soft hands indicating he was not a farmer but
a hunter or shepardson with access to grains. This leads scientists to believe that Otzi was part of a
small settlement that used agriculture but still had hunters to provide the majority of the food and Otzi
was most likely part of the hunting group (Iceman Murder Mystery). Scientists were able to use the
items found near the body and in the stomach to learn about his foodways because when he was
murdered it was less than an hour since he had eaten therefore the food did not have the chance to
digest past the stomach. Also, Otzi was only found with weapons for tools suggesting he was a

Summary Of Pete Rose An American Dilemma
ntroduction The author of the book Pete Rose An American Dilemma is Kostya Kennedy. The book
was published in 2014. It has 315 pages in total.
Rationale I chose this book because I am a huge Cincinnati Reds fan. I also am aware of the Pete Rose
situation and wanted to learn more about him.
Author The title of the book is Pete Rose An American Dilemma. I think Kostya Kennedy picked this
title because Pete Rose is a dilemma for baseball fans. On one hand we see all of the accomplishments
he has achieved in baseball. You could argue that he is the greatest baseball player ever. However, we
also know that he has bet on baseball games he has played in. What we don t know is whether those
bets ever affected the outcome of a game. So, Pete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harry Rose Harry, Pete s dad, was 5 9 , 175 pounds, had blue eyes, straight jawline and a wide nose..
He was a semi pro football player who embodied the phrase no bull . He never missed a day of work,
always looked you right in the eye when he talked to you, and gave a firm handshake. In many ways
Pete was a mirror image of his father Harry.
Characterization In this book, Pete changed in multiple ways. In the beginning, Pete learned that you
had to earn everything in life and he kept that with him his entire life. However, with all the success he
gained, he also gained a cockiness. When the commissioner of baseball asked him why he bet on
baseball his answer was I thought I could get away with it. Pete learned that even though you may
deserve to be in the Hall of Fame one mistake could cost you everything and in his case, it did.
Setting Pete grew up on the west side of Cincinnati. His boyhood home was 4404 Braddock Street. It
was a three bedroom home on a hill near the Ohio River. The house wasn t spectacular but was a nice
enough house for the Rose s. Pete lived here up until after his rookie season. He continued to live in
Cincinnati, the west side of course, and moved to Philadelphia and Montreal for a few short years
while playing for local

Notes On Blaise Pascal s Theory Of The Classical Problem...
Blaise Pascal was born on June 19, 1623, in Clermont Ferrand, France to Etienne and Antoinette
Pascal. He was the only son having two sisters, Jacqueline and Gilberte. Blaise Pascal was a person of
many hats as he had different traits and talents that he acquired. Not only was he an important
mathematician, but also a philosopher, physicist, inventor, scientist, and theological writer. Pascal
made numerous contributions to a wide variety of studies that are still appreciated today including a
powerful influence on the development of modern economics, social science, and Pascal s Theorem.
Blaise Pascal is best known for his correspondence of 1654 with Fermat, which originated the theory
of probability. He was also the author of Traite du triangle arithmetique avec quelques autres petits
traites sur lameme matiere written in 1654. He included in his treatise separate tracts describing the
use of the Pascal s triangle in the theory of figurate numbers, the theory of combinations, the solution
of the classical problem of points in games of chance, and the derivation of the powers of binomials.
In 1631, Etienne moved his family to Paris minus his wife Antoinette who had passed away five years
prior. Etienne would make the decision to educate his children on his own keeping his focus
particularly on Blaise who was a child prodigy, his strong subjects being mathematics and science. At
only the age of 11, Blaise produced a short proof on the sound of vibrating bodies. Though

The Impact Of Australian Foreign Policy On The...
Australian foreign policy has undoubtedly been subject to vast changes over the past century,
particularly as a response to the increasing role Asia has played in shaping the contemporary global
market. Having identified the importance of multilateralism and regionalism, policy continue to be
increasingly focused on our geographical position as part of the Asia Pacific region, and the
relationships with our immediate neighbours, as a means to better achieve stability. The word stability
in this context does not simply refer one single aspect, but rather encompasses several different areas
which are equally important if we are to continue advancing our country in both a domestic and
international sense. There are several key areas of policy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The 1997 Asian financial crisis reinforced Australia s growing economic interdependence within Asia,
evident through the assistance given to Indonesia, Thailand, and South Korea to help re establish their
economies. Regional dynamics largely shifted as a result, contributing to the demise of the Indonesia
Suharto administration, and its subsequent transition to democracy. As Indonesia develops itself as a
democratic country, there have been more opportunities for the traditionally different nations of
Indonesia and Australia to intertwine, seeing an increase in regional policy and greater collaboration
on issues of mutual importance.
As Indonesian society continues to transform, so has the national interest in global politics. This has
seen an increase in regional and global affairs, triggering a growth in environmental activism, and a
greater awareness for implementation of crime prevention and migration strategies. Indonesia has
strongly supported the inclusion of Australia in the East Asia Summit (EAS), a conference which
examines economic, political, security and environmental issues within the region. Conversely,
Indonesian society has benefitted from its increasing ties with Australia, allowing it to better develop a
relationship with the United States (a close and powerful ally of Australia). Australia s relationships

Notes On Real Estate Investments
Like any other investment, real estate investing also has its share of risks and rewards. With the right
kind of knowledge and training, real estate investing can be turned into a lucrative business. There are
two broad categories of real state investments short term and long term. Although long term
investment in real estate is quite profitable and is suitable for building wealth, most professional
investors prefer short term investments because they can turn in profits much faster. Long term
investment involves holding properties for several years and selling them when the value of the
properties has appreciated substantially, thus making a nice profit. On the other hand short term real
estate investments involve purchasing a property and selling it within a few months. Sometimes the
term of investment is really short. Short term real estate investments work best in rapidly appreciating
real estate markets. In rapidly appreciating real estate markets the wait for profit is very short. One of
the strategies of short term real estate investing is the quick turning of properties for profit. This
strategy is best for making quick cash. In this strategy the house or commercial property is contracted
at a low price, then sold at a higher price either with or without improvements. It may be a wholesale
quick turn or a retail quick turn. In wholesale quick turn the property is sold to another investor and
retail quick turn the real estate property is sold directly to the

The Importance of African-American Studies Essay
African American Studies The aspect of African American Studies is key to the lives of African
Americans and those involved with the welfare of the race. African American Studies is the systematic
and critical study of the multidimensional aspects of Black thought and practice in their current and
historical unfolding (Karenga, 21). African American Studies exposes students to the experiences of
African American people and others of African descent. It allows the promotion and sharing of the
African American culture. However, the concept of African American Studies, like many other studies

African American History or Black American History, a history of African American people in the
United States from their arrival in the Americas in the Fifteenth Century until the present day. In 1996,
33.9 million Americans, about one out of every eight people in the United States, were African
American. Although African American from the West Indies and other areas have migrated to the
United States in the Twentieth Century, most African Americans were born in the United States, and
this has been true since the early Nineteenth Century. Until the mid 20th century, the African
American population was concentrated in the Southern states. Even today, nearly half of all African
Americans live in the South. African Americans also make up a significant part of the population in
most urban areas in the eastern United States and in some mid western and western cities as well
.Africans and their descendants have been a part of the story of the Americas at least since the late
1400s. As scouts, interpreters, navigators, and military men, African Americans were among those

Silence Of The Lambs Comparison
Hey, what movie do you want to watch tonight? A common phrase spoken amongst most households
on a Friday night; families getting ready to watch the newest animation, blockbuster, or even a
romantic comedy. Yet, most individuals pass off the idea of watch a horrific, nightmarish movie before
he or she falls asleep. Well, my mother and I do just that. We always bicker over what we want to
watch, like an old married couple, but our fights are over a physical horror movie like Nightmare on
Elm Street (her choice pick) and a psychological horror film such as Silence of the Lambs (my
choice). These two movies, though within the same genre, are completely different. A Nightmare on

Safest Exercise Analysis
When working out one can choose many exercises that will strengthen muscle and burn fat. The IDEA

The Story Of Stone Mother
Group 1, Question B The story of Stone Mother functions both as an origin and etiological story
because it provided a sense of values and explained the phenomena of nature s creation in time. It s
amazing to analyze how certain landmarks in nature were created based upon the stories that were
passed down through generations. The story shared the value of family and to appreciate the
connection that exists between people and nature. If one does not acknowledge each others
characteristics and the world around us, certain choices may lead to regrets later on in life. For
example, the children were separated and sent to opposite sides of their mother homeland ( Stone
Mother, pg 11 12) due to discipline actions. Since the children left, the parent remained in their
original location but were very sad and heartbroken when they learned about the band returning to
fight the remaining groups ( Stone Mother, pg 12). Overall, the important idea that this story wanted to
provided is that any connections always exists among humans as well as the nature that surrounds us if
we take the chance to appreciated each other existence. Group 2, Question C Two examples of
trickster stories from this week s reading were Coyote Wants to Be Chief and Bunding Host . Both of
the stories teach valuable life lessons, but they each have different perspectives on what was needed to
be presented. In the Coyote Wants to Be Chief story, Coyote accidentally fell asleep and missed his

An Absence of Morality in Shakespeare´s Richard III
During Shakespeare s time, it was not uncommon for people to use unethical tactics to gain positions
of power, these methods could range from simple bribing or much more elaborate planned
assassinations of important figureheads. The practice of using unethical means to gain power is a
common theme in history, even up to modern politics, many politicians will provide one sided pieces
of information to make their competition look bad. In William Shakespeare s wonderfully written
tragedy Richard III , the main villain appears to have no moral character, doing whatever he deems
necessary to achieve his goal of becoming king.
Richard kills his own brother because he feels it is necessary if he is going to take the throne, and to
hide his motives he is quite adept at putting up facades of love. Early on in the play Richard is talking
to his brother Clarence regarding his imprisonment, telling him that ...your imprisonment shall not be
long. I will deliver you or else lie for you...simple, plain clarence, I do love thee so that i will shortly
send thy soul to heaven (Richard I. i. 117 23). To prevent Clarence from interfering with his elaborate
plan to steal the throne, he is going to kill him. Richard emphasizes his lack of morality by doing
whatever he deems necessary to take the throne, with no regard to who he has to kill. By appearing to
be a loving brother, he takes suspicion off of himself for when Clarence is killed. When the murderers
Richard hires to kill Clarence

Advantages And Disadvantages Of ATM Is A Deterministic...

connectionless networking protocols, ATM is a deterministic networking system. It provides
predictable, guaranteed quality of service. From end to end, every component in an ATM network
provides a high level of control. ATM technology has:
Scalable Performance ATM can send data across network quickly and accurately, regardless of the size
of the network. ATM works well on both very low and very high speed media.
Flexible, guaranteed Quality of Service ATM allows the accuracy and speed of data transfer to be

destination end systems (known as leaves). Such connections are unidirectional only.
ADVANTAGES OF ATM
 Better utilization of the bandwidth
 It can also be used to transfer very large amounts of data over WAN and LAN.
 ATM can also be used between WAN and LAN as well.
 Allows for end to end flow and error control
 The speed of asynchronous transfer mode can reach up to 10 billion bytes/sec.
DISADVANTAGES OF ATM
 ATM has not been widely accepted.
 ATM switch costs much more than inexpensive LAN hardware.

has a twin brother. I was able to watch the infant go from not being able to eat off a spoon, only be
able to sit in a bouncer and not being to crawl at all to being able to slowly each from a spoon, put one
foot in front another while a caregiver holding her hands and become mobile crawling a way that

Role Of The Dutch Colonial Rule
In this write up I will argue that despite factors such as different identities, the largely prevalent
separatist conflicts in Indonesia are mainly based on resources. I will attempt to demonstrate that
identity was instrumentalized in the colonial times to gain political and economic control, and that
spilled over to an internal colonialism in Indonesia in contemporary times. This created the foundation
for the Central government to instrumentalize constructed identities to gain economic control over the
resource rich minority islands, which led to violent separatist conflicts throughout the archipelago. To
begin with we can examine the role of the Dutch colonial rule in the Dutch East Indies and how they
laid the foundation for instrumentalist manipulation. With 13,466 islands, 360 ethnic groups and 719
languages the Dutch were extremely aware of the diversity that prevailed in this region (The
Economist, 2014). These various ethnicities and communities lived in peace prior to the Dutch role.
However upon the exit of the Dutch, this peace was shattered. The main purpose of exerting control
over Indonesia can best be explained by Immanuel Wallersteins world systems theory. It characterizes
the world system as a set of mechanisms, which redistributes surplus value from the periphery to the
core (Barfield, 1997). In the capitalist world system, the West makes up the core , while the regions of
Aceh and West Papua make up the periphery . In these regions

Why We Should Celebrate D-Day
We all celebrate many holidays but one holiday that we are missing and should have is D Day. The
Allied forces that fought along side America to try to take back France from Germany. The fight
during D Day was no easy task for the soldiers the location and the weather made it difficult for them
to get to land. Germany had many advantages that took out many soldiers even after they finally got to

become a holiday. The date when the battle of Normandy took place was during world war 2 and the
other countries who fought alongside should also celebrate. During World War II, it was the day (June
6, 1944) on which the Allied forces of Britain, Canada, and the United States invaded Normandy coast
of German occupied France ( D Day ). The date for holiday should be June 6 and kids should have a

France announced that an invasion there would lead them to declare war with Germany ( Drez 11).

Symphony Orchestra Review Essay
On October 10, I attended the performances of the University Symphony Orchestra, with guest

with having the pleasure of an intermissionary lecture about the possible survival of Beethoven and
Schubert with the help of modern medicine led by Professor Blankenship from the School of
Pharmacy. Before the first piece, Principal Violin Vogel led the tuning of the orchestra in the
traditional B flat. Trio 180 then emerged onstage and were recognized as the soloists as Professor
Leong led the tuning of the trio. The first piece of the evening was Beethoven s Triple Concerto Op.

mirroring, leading to a unanimous motif which was replicated in distinct moments as the bass and
treble strings branched off into their own movements. Throughout the piece, the strings in the
orchestra were featured more than the wind instruments, as they were typically the support for the
soloists. Trio 180 worked incredibly well off of each other, watching one another as they played
together in order to experience the flow of the music in a more unified way. When the wind
instruments were featured, the balance, blend, and pitch were nearly seamless; for example, it ... Show

Modern English Language
There are 6,909 languages spoken in the world today (Anderson). As of 2009, roughly 328 million
people speak English as their first language, coming in third to Chinese and Spanish (Languages of the
World). This essay will describe the geographies, politics, and arts that contributed to the evolution of
the present English language, as well as the different pronunciations, dialects, and varieties that have
risen up throughout the world. Several countries and civilizations influenced the English language. In
the nineteenth century thirty million people immigrated to the United States of America (History: Late
Modern English [c.1800 Present]). These included Italians, Austro Hungarians, Russians, Germans,
Norwegians, Swedes, and more. Many times these immigrants would form their own communities in
which they would have a distinctive English with a strong ... accent and an idiosyncratic syntax
(History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). During this time, the British Empire spanned nearly
twenty five percent of Earth, including Canada, South Africa, India, Australia, and several other
countries. Once colonized, the natives were taught the English language and contributed some of their
own words as well (History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). Through the colonization
process, several varieties of the English language were produced. Examples of the New Englishes
were Australian English, South African English, Caribbean English, and South Asian (History: Late

Die Hard is a classic action movie that shows rampant gender bias. Of the characters in the film, not
only are the majority of them men, but also the male characters have more important roles as well as
significantly more screen time. In contrast, there are only three women with names and lines, and only
one of them actually contributes substantially to the plot. Holly is an exception to the rule when it
comes to the jobs of the female characters in the movie, but not to the extent that she should be. More
importantly, the movie relies on the stereotypes of female characters for an entertaining plot. While

Comparing Way To Rainy Mountain And Being Country

They both share similar topics, in that they are two stories of cultures, but written from different
perspectives of their cultures. Momaday is from the Kiowas tribe of the plains of
Oklahoma, and Mason from a farm in Mayfield, Kentucky. Both exhibit some comparisons, but
mostly contrasts throughout their writing. Momaday s American Indian heritage dates back to the

Momaday shows contentment in his work.
Mason, on the other hand, shows more resentment in hers. Bobby Ann Mason begins by describing the
simplicity of how her family lives. She begins this writing from when she was eleven years old. Her
mom and Granny were very dedicated farm women. They took care of all of the food, clothing and
just about anything else needed for them to run a household. As Mason shows, they prove to be very
resourceful and are capable of making the most out of what they have available. On a typical day of
food preparation by Mason s mom and Granny, Mason screams
Can t y all talk about anything but food? There was a shocked silence. Well, what else is there ?
Granny asked. Granny didn t question a women s duties, but I did. I wanted to be somebody, maybe an

herself to not have to suffer her mother s fate. She almost seems to be developing anxiety and
depression over food, though her family always seems to get by with plenty. I think this dependence
on nature was at the core of my rebellion. I hated the constant sense of helplessness before vast forces,
the continuous threat of failure...I especially hated women s part in the dependence (106). She talks of

  • 2. Comprehensive Sex Education Report All three of these sex educators also spoke to different elements that make the current high school sex education system damaging to its students. Ms. Corrado related: I think one of the big things is fear mongering around STIs. Which leads to higher incident rates instead of actually reducing incident rates, because fear will not actually stop them from doing it , but it just leads to people not knowing safer sex techniques and not knowing they are transmitting [STIs]. This supports the CDC report mentioned earlier, about the increasing number of students engaging in sexual activity and becoming infected with STIs, despite being in abstinence based programs. For Ms. Basler Francis the main issue was something else entirely: she believes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the SIECUS studies have shown, and from the information gathered from the Center for Sexual Pleasure and Health Study Sex College tour, students leave comprehensive sex education classes and workshops with more knowledge, better resources and with less shame about their desires. Despite my obvious biases towards comprehensive sex education I truly believe that the current system is creating the exact issues that pro abstinence groups are trying to prevent. Due to their use of shame and scare tactics, teens are avoiding communication with sexual/romantic partners, not turning to adults in times of need, unknowingly contracting STIs and infecting others and feeling all around ashamed of the sexual desires. This is a system that turns an eye away from preventative measures like birth control and condoms, as well as demonizes people who become pregnant and vilifies those who have abortions. But most importantly it makes people scared to explore what they want sexually, even more afraid to ask for what they desire and completely unable to respond to issues where their consent was given. These are all issues that can be avoided if children in kindergarten through twelfth grade were provided the information they needed to understand their bodies and more importantly how to use them, and take care of them. Our culture expects people to automatically know what to do, how to protect ourselves and be our own sexual advocates, but cringes at the idea of actually teaching those skills. Nothing will change until we decide that people who are asking the questions are old enough and prepared to actually hear the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some recalled if your relatives or your friends knew that you were working in Roaring Dragon, you would be admired , it was a good work unit danwei , and you were lucky if you worked there 3. The original Hotel was a four storey, rectangular, grey structure built in 1960 in a dull Russian style. By 1993, the provincial government had funded a new extension and the Hotel now consisted of two parts: the old four storey section joined by a modern sixteen storey extension perched on a hill behind the old Russian. There was a contrast in the standard of accommodation. Room rates were cheaper in the old section and so it attracted Chinese visitors searching for quality economy accommodation. Visiting government officials and higher end customers on the other hand felt more comfortable in the newer and naturally more expensive section. There were two guarded entrances to the Hotel, one on each level. A series of stairways, elevators and a warren of banquet rooms, hallways, storage areas, offices, cafeterias, and a laundry untidily connected the two buildings. Reflection on a 1993 Experience The Roaring Dragon was a Chinese managed SOE until the opening of the new extension in 1993 when the provincial government decided to contract an international company to manage the Hotel with the objective of improving the quality of customer service. • 4. Both Views on Criminal Disenfranchisement The American Constitution, as outlined in the Preamble, boldly defines its purpose as We the People (U.S. Constitution). Reasonableness suggests that the framers of the Constitution would provide appropriate legislation enhancing the citizenship s right to actively participate in government via public elections given such a definitive statement expanding on the power of the people. However, American citizens do not possess a constitutionally protected right to vote. During the drafting period of the Constitution, only white male property owners could vote, however, voting rights have drastically changed throughout the history of the United States. Through amendments passed over the past two centuries, the Constitution has changed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Criminal disenfranchisement, while currently upheld by Supreme Court review, has a growing base of supporters for the overturning of such exclusionary practices. In fact, according to a recent study, the majority of the mass public, between 52 and 80 percent depending on the crime committed, vastly supports the re enfranchisement of previously convicted felons not currently imprisoned (Manza, Brooks, Uggen, 2003). State laws restricting the rights of a convicted felon to vote, even after completing a penal sentence remain inconsistent, at best. The disparity between the states application of the varying degrees of criminal disenfranchisement raises concerns over the validity of the actions when affecting a federal voting right; the ability to vote in a federal election is being mandated by the states, without direction, structure or federal oversight. When the Constitution was written, only white male property owners (about 10 to 16 percent of the nation s population) had the right to vote (Crews, 2007). While over the past two centuries the perseverance and machinations of checks and balances of power within the government have transformed the United States into a government by the people, criminal disenfranchisement penalties remain vastly unchanged until recently due to power entrusted to each state to govern its people. By the onset of the Civil War ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The American Work, The Great Gatsby By F. Scott Fitzgerald To many of us writing can be a daunting task, and often more complicated than it should be, but, as stated by famed American author Ernest Hemingway, There is nothing to writing, All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed . The fact of the matter is, eventually blood clots, and scabs form. It s the same in writing; many authors bleed onto a page and use their metaphorical blood as ink, thus placing a piece of themselves into their work. But, no matter how great the author, eventually writer block ensues, casting a writer into a literary funk and halting the flow of thematic ideas; however, themes such as love and wealth transcend time, culture, and language. So it s not difficult to think that famed authors, when in a pinch, often recycle broad themes to create a more compelling and relatable story. In the American work, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and its cinematic counterpart, directed by Baz Lutherman, themes such as wealth, love, isolation, and dissatisfaction are used to create a novel that still holds parallels to the world of today. The theme of wealth is prevalent in the works of the The Great Gatsby. The wealthy are portrayed as educated businessmen who have found a prosperous niche, often illegally. Persons with enough money are held in higher esteem than their middle class compatriots. In Gatsby s world money buys social acceptance, and it also grants living in the world without repercussions. In chapter four of The Great Gatsby, Gatsby, on his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Automatic Transmission Essay ABSTRACT The transmission in a car which works automatically depending on the vehicle speed and engine speed is called as automatic transmission while as a manual transmission is the one there is a manual clutch pedal used while changing gears that allow the driver to change the gears as per driving needs. In a country like India, automatic transmission gives only a driving pleasure to the driver in heavy traffic as there is no need of changing gears because of the fact that it lacks a clutch paddle system which gives complete rest to one leg of the driver. Manual transmission fails to provide such an added benefit to drivers. But in developing countries, the idea of an automatic transmission is not wise and applicable to all due to the economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the selection of reverse mode , the driver must come to a complete stop, depress the shift lock button and select reverse. Severe damage may be caused to the transmission if the car is not made to come to a complete stop. Most of the modern day automatic transmissions have a safety mechanism in place, which prevents putting the car in reverse when the vehicle is moving forward. 3. Neutral / No gear (N) This mode is almost same as in manual cars where it allows the vehicle to coast freely under its own weight and gain momentum without the motive force from the engine. 4. Drive (D) This mode of the transmission is to engage the full range of available gear which allows the vehicle to move forward and accelerate through the range of gears. In this mode the gear changes automatically as the cars gains speed. The number of gear ratios within the transmission depends on the model, but initially they ranged from three to four and five speeds gears. Six speed automatic transmissions are the most common in cars and trucks. However, seven speed automatics are also being available in some high performance production luxury cars as are eight speed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. What in your view was the short term significance of... What in your view, was the short term significance of Michael Collins? Michael Collins played a major part in Ireland s History, in the years 1916 23. He had a short but political life where he had increasingly been involved in events such as the Easter Rising, Anglo Irish War, Treaty Negotiations and the Civil War. Although he was only active over a relatively short period of time, his significance in such events was profound. His public image changed throughout the years, from one of the UKs most wanted men to a reasonable politician. In 1916 during the Easter Rising his role was relatively low key, but by 1922 he ultimately gave his life in the Civil War for what he believed in. Michael Collins took part in the Easter Rising in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The canteen staff in Frongoch described Collins as highly respected and when they took problems to him he always listened logically 4. This helps us understand Michael Collins short term significance because he learnt from the military blunders made; such as the seizure of indefensible and very vulnerable positions like St Stephen s Green5 and filled the vacuum made by the executions of the leaders of the Rising. Likewise, Frongoch would have been different without Collins as the internees wouldn t have been able to hold out and the Irish wouldn t have developed such a fighting force. It s a useful source because they were employed to work in the Frongoch canteens so they are indifferent to Collins, which gives this source a high weight of argument which can be generalised to how others must have seen him who weren t closely involved with him. Then again, as it is written so long after, it can be doubted On the contrary, the source was wrote over half a century later, so it s questionable how far someone can precisely remember what the canteen staff thought about Collins. Michael Collins had many responsibilities after leaving Frongoch. He was appointed Finance Minister and is described as the unlikely Finance Minister who proved himself an administrator par excellence. 6 Collins produced a Finance Ministry that was able to organise a ... • 8. Movement Framing Examples The act of framing is without a doubt a tactical strategy. During the organization of a social movement, framing was as a way to assign meaning (McAdam, 339) or look at events in ways that could inspire support from both group members and the common people while subjugating the opposing party. McAdam (339) states, Mediating between opportunity and action are people and the... meanings they attach to their situations. The events that occur during the rise of a social movement all present opportunities to help members achieve their goal but in order to even act upon these opportunities, the people involved must frame their situation in a way that will draw support to their cause. During the Civil Rights movement, the use of framing, on both sides, greatly influenced the outcome of social reform. McAdam states that there are six strategies social movement groups can employ to bring about change. In the case of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), even though blacks could now vote legal subterfuge and extralegal intimidation prevented them from taking part of political reform in the south (McAdam, 345). • 9. Approaches to Government Control on Expenditure 1. INTRODUCTION Money is central to the functioning of a government, revenue is generated by the imposition of taxes and the money received is then spent by the Commonwealth subject to appropriation. The scope of the governments capacity to spend public moneys has been a controversial issue for many years, due to the uncertainty surrounding the scope of the spending power. This essay will determine which approach to Government s control on expenditure is more favourable; the narrow approach, where Commonwealth s financial expenditure should be limited to expenses authorised by statute or the wide approach, where the Government should have unlimited spending power. In order to determine this it is necessary to discuss the different Court s conclusions and principles that apply in the interpretation of the relevant sections of the Constitution, specifically the appropriation provisions ss 81 and 83, executive powers provision s 61 and s 96 relating to State grants. This essay will also evaluate other cases to discuss the effects and developments they have had on determining the scope of Government s spending power. 2. SCOPE OF SECTION 81 2.1 Executive Government s Appropriation Powers Commonwealth Parliament makes money available to the Executive Government to spend on a range of matters. An appropriation of money is needed before Parliament can lawfully spend moneys received. This is usually done through Appropriation Acts and through annual budgets. Sections 81 and 83 ... A Brief Note On Asp.net And Cloud Computing Essay ASP.NET Cloud Computing A research report Prepared for: Tony Assadi IT7x11 Advanced Internet Application Development Whitireia Community Polytechnic, Porirua Prepared by: Maen Terawasi Student ID: 21103436 Date Submitted: 10 April 2015 Executive Summary The ASP.NET Framework offers a development environment that comes with various tools and technologies that aid developers in building enterprise class web services, websites, and web apps. Along with this ASP.NET is part of the Microsoft .NET Framework which gives the ability to utilize classes within the .NET Framework. With the implementation of Cloud computing platforms and ASP.NET the benefits offered by combining the two proves to be significant in terms of cutting down costs, management, maintenance, and the need for resources since most cloud providers are already providing SaaS (software as a service), PaaS (platform as a service), and IaaS (infrastructure as a service) altogether. However demand to move onto the cloud is substantially increasing resulting in the massive surge of cloud providers coming into existence. With various cloud provider competitors out there Windows Azure which is a Microsoft cloud platform is one of the more notable cloud providers when it comes to ASP.NET applications and services over the web. Someone who doesn t have a thorough knowledge about the War would be quick to say the causes were economical or ideological or that the direct cause was the death of Franz Ferdinand of Austria Hungary but it is more complicated than that. Militarism, on the other hand, is the belief or wish of a government or people that a country should maintain a strong military capability and be prepared to use it aggressively to defend or promote national interests. During this time European countries increased their military might far beyond what was necessary for a strong national defense; a large standing army symbolized power. This made easy for a government to immediately use the force when any dispute broke among nations. Finally was the Slavic brotherhood between Russia and Serbia. They have common ancestry and origin. Russia responded to that bond by backing up Serbia. This is very important because if Russia wouldn t have joined the war, it would have been only between Austria Hungary with Germany s support and Serbia. The main economical causes were the second industrial revolution and the Balkan Wars. The second industrial revolution brought a rise in the economy due to all the new inventions and discoveries. One of the most important was the petroleum industry which begun in Scotland in the late 1840s. Also, the increase in steel production meant that rails could be built at a better price and with a much more durable material. The odd thing about Archie telling Jerry not to sell the chocolates is that Archie earlier told Brother Leon that The Vigils would support the chocolate selling activity. The Story Of Stone Mother Group 1, Question B The story of Stone Mother functions both as an origin and etiological story because it provided a sense of values and explained the phenomena of nature s creation in time. It s amazing to analyze how certain landmarks in nature were created based upon the stories that were passed down through generations. The story shared the value of family and to appreciate the connection that exists between people and nature. If one does not acknowledge each others characteristics and the world around us, certain choices may lead to regrets later on in life. For example, the children were separated and sent to opposite sides of their mother homeland ( Stone Mother, pg 11 12) due to discipline actions. Since the children left, the parent remained in their original location but were very sad and heartbroken when they learned about the band returning to fight the remaining groups ( Stone Mother, pg 12). An Absence of Morality in Shakespeare´s Richard III During Shakespeare s time, it was not uncommon for people to use unethical tactics to gain positions of power, these methods could range from simple bribing or much more elaborate planned assassinations of important figureheads. In William Shakespeare s wonderfully written tragedy Richard III , the main villain appears to have no moral character, doing whatever he deems necessary to achieve his goal of becoming king. Richard kills his own brother because he feels it is necessary if he is going to take the throne, and to hide his motives he is quite adept at putting up facades of love. Early on in the play Richard is talking to his brother Clarence regarding his imprisonment, telling him that ...your imprisonment shall not be long. • 35. Role Of The Dutch Colonial Rule In this write up I will argue that despite factors such as different identities, the largely prevalent separatist conflicts in Indonesia are mainly based on resources. I will attempt to demonstrate that identity was instrumentalized in the colonial times to gain political and economic control, and that spilled over to an internal colonialism in Indonesia in contemporary times. This created the foundation for the Central government to instrumentalize constructed identities to gain economic control over the resource rich minority islands, which led to violent separatist conflicts throughout the archipelago. To begin with we can examine the role of the Dutch colonial rule in the Dutch East Indies and how they laid the foundation for instrumentalist manipulation. With 13,466 islands, 360 ethnic groups and 719 languages the Dutch were extremely aware of the diversity that prevailed in this region (The Economist, 2014). These various ethnicities and communities lived in peace prior to the Dutch role. However upon the exit of the Dutch, this peace was shattered. The main purpose of exerting control over Indonesia can best be explained by Immanuel Wallersteins world systems theory. It characterizes the world system as a set of mechanisms, which redistributes surplus value from the periphery to the core (Barfield, 1997). In the capitalist world system, the West makes up the core , while the regions of Aceh and West Papua make up the periphery . In these regions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Symphony Orchestra Review Essay On October 10, I attended the performances of the University Symphony Orchestra, with guest soloists Trio 180, comprised of Professors Miller on violin, Flyer on cello, and Leong on piano, along with having the pleasure of an intermissionary lecture about the possible survival of Beethoven and Schubert with the help of modern medicine led by Professor Blankenship from the School of Pharmacy. Before the first piece, Principal Violin Vogel led the tuning of the orchestra in the traditional B flat. Trio 180 then emerged onstage and were recognized as the soloists as Professor Leong led the tuning of the trio. The first piece of the evening was Beethoven s Triple Concerto Op. 56 with a mezzo piano chord progression of the basses and cellos, with violin and viola soon mirroring, leading to a unanimous motif which was replicated in distinct moments as the bass and treble strings branched off into their own movements. Throughout the piece, the strings in the orchestra were featured more than the wind instruments, as they were typically the support for the soloists. Trio 180 worked incredibly well off of each other, watching one another as they played together in order to experience the flow of the music in a more unified way. When the wind instruments were featured, the balance, blend, and pitch were nearly seamless; for example, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An excellence of the trio and orchestra as a whole was its expert portrayal of changes in dynamics; fortissimo was truly fortissimo, piano was distinctly piano. Additionally, the soloists were never overpowered by the orchestra, demonstrating the skillful blend of the musicians. A true mark of professionalism was illustrated by Professor Miller, whose bow experienced an unfortunate break in some of the horse hairs, and she continued to play passionately, completely unphased by this ... • 38. Modern English Language There are 6,909 languages spoken in the world today (Anderson). As of 2009, roughly 328 million people speak English as their first language, coming in third to Chinese and Spanish (Languages of the World). This essay will describe the geographies, politics, and arts that contributed to the evolution of the present English language, as well as the different pronunciations, dialects, and varieties that have risen up throughout the world. Several countries and civilizations influenced the English language. In the nineteenth century thirty million people immigrated to the United States of America (History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). These included Italians, Austro Hungarians, Russians, Germans, Norwegians, Swedes, and more. Many times these immigrants would form their own communities in which they would have a distinctive English with a strong ... accent and an idiosyncratic syntax (History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). During this time, the British Empire spanned nearly twenty five percent of Earth, including Canada, South Africa, India, Australia, and several other countries. Once colonized, the natives were taught the English language and contributed some of their own words as well (History: Late Modern English [c.1800 Present]). Through the colonization process, several varieties of the English language were produced. Examples of the New Englishes were Australian English, South African English, Caribbean English, and South Asian (History: Late ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Die Hard Stereotypes Die Hard is a classic action movie that shows rampant gender bias. Of the characters in the film, not only are the majority of them men, but also the male characters have more important roles as well as significantly more screen time. In contrast, there are only three women with names and lines, and only one of them actually contributes substantially to the plot. Holly is an exception to the rule when it comes to the jobs of the female characters in the movie, but not to the extent that she should be. More importantly, the movie relies on the stereotypes of female characters for an entertaining plot. While Die Hard does technically fulfill the requirements of the Bechdel Test, it s basically scrapes by. In short, Die Hard is great, but the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the beginning, the audience might notice that she is relatively important to the company. In fact, she is the second most important executive at the party, and we know this because after Mr. Takagi is shot and killed by Hans, she is put in charge of the other hostages (and she makes it clear it is not by her own decision). That said, she is still clearly viewed by some of the men as just a token of affirmative action, something to focus sexual desire on, as demonstrated by Harry Ellis s flirting during the company Christmas ... • 40. Comparing Way To Rainy Mountain And Being Country Essay 2 Scott Momaday s The Way to Rainy Mountain and Bobbie Ann Mason s Being Country are two the texts to be compared. Though they share similarities, they too are quite different. They both share similar topics, in that they are two stories of cultures, but written from different perspectives of their cultures. Momaday is from the Kiowas tribe of the plains of Oklahoma, and Mason from a farm in Mayfield, Kentucky. Both exhibit some comparisons, but mostly contrasts throughout their writing. Momaday s American Indian heritage dates back to the 1880 s when his grandmother was born, where Mason s dairy farm heritage takes place starting when she was born in 1940. I found both to be stories of each of the author s lives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Momaday shows contentment in his work. Mason, on the other hand, shows more resentment in hers. Bobby Ann Mason begins by describing the simplicity of how her family lives. She begins this writing from when she was eleven years old. Her mom and Granny were very dedicated farm women. They took care of all of the food, clothing and just about anything else needed for them to run a household. As Mason shows, they prove to be very resourceful and are capable of making the most out of what they have available. On a typical day of food preparation by Mason s mom and Granny, Mason screams Can t y all talk about anything but food? There was a shocked silence. Well, what else is there ? Granny asked. Granny didn t question a women s duties, but I did. I wanted to be somebody, maybe an airline stewardess. Also, I had been listening to the radio. I had notions (106). She was beginning to develop her independence. Mason thought she would strive to better herself to not have to suffer her mother s fate. She almost seems to be developing anxiety and depression over food, though her family always seems to get by with plenty. I think this dependence on nature was at the core of my rebellion. I hated the constant sense of helplessness before vast forces, the continuous threat of failure...I especially hated women s part in the dependence (106). She talks of ...
