Observation Paper On Addiction
Being on the outside of addiction We ve all heard of addicts but what really qualifies an individual
as an addict? Addiction is defined as the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to
something that is psychologically or physically habit forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its
cessation causes severe trauma. (Dictionary.com, 2002) Last Monday, I had the opportunity to
observe an open Alcoholics Anonymoussession at Calvary Chapel in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Upon
arrival, there were two people already there. One lady appeared to be the facilitator as she was
seated at a table with sign in sheets and class material. I quickly introduced myself and explained
that I was there to observe as a class assignment. She warmly welcomed me, handed me some
reading material and offered me to sit where I pleased. The room was located in the multipurpose
room of the church. There were no windows, just an assortment of chairs positioned in a circle for
easy discussion. While waiting for the others to trickle in, I was educated that the weekly sessions
were formed for addicts to discuss their journey of addiction, and to provide and receive support
for their decision to remain sober. The meeting opened with group facilitator making everyone
aware that I was a student observer that would be observing for the night. I was asked to introduce
myself and I also agreed to keep their stories and names anonymous when writing this paper. It

Low Social Class Relationships In Charles DickensGreat...
People in society do not give enough credit to those who raised them. We take advantage of all
the sacrifices and love they give to us as children. They are the reason we are who we are today.
In the novel, Great Expectations, Dickens tells the story of Pip, the protagonist, suffered through
emotional abuse during his childhood and how he does not understand the importance of the good
people in his life. As a young adult, he moves to London, where he encounters people from many
walks of life, businessmen, convicts and lawyers who influence him in many ways both positive
and negative. Pip is negatively influenced by the powerful women in his childhood, which leads to
his ungrateful and stagnant character; eventually, when he loses his fortune that he realizes that
one of the good people from his childhood, Biddy, did have a positive influence on him but he did
not realize it at the time.
Mrs. Joe, Pip s motherly figure, has a low self esteem due to her low social class status and it is
one of the main reasons she is abusive towards Pip, having a profoundly negative impact on him.
Dickens uses the image of an apron to depict her social class status: I may truly say I ve never
had this apron of mine off, since born you were. It s bad enough to be a blacksmith s wife (and
him a Gargery) without being your mother. (9). Mrs. Joe feels tied down to the lower class of
society because of her apron. The apron represents her connection to bondage of motherhood, since

DNA In Crime Scene Investigation
Nowadays, DNA is a crucial component of a crime scene investigation, used to both to identify
perpetrators from crime scenes and to determine a suspect s guilt or innocence (Butler, 2005). The
method of constructing a distinctive fingerprint from an individual s DNA was first described by
Alec Jeffreys in 1985. He discovered regions of repetitions of nucleotides inherent in DNAstrands
that differed from person to person (now known as variable number of tandem repeats, or VNTRs),
and developed a technique to adjust the length variation into a definitive identity marker (Butler,
2005). Since then, DNA fingerprinting has been refined to be an indispensible source of evidence,
expanded into multiple methods befitting different types of DNA... Show more content on

Each person inherits two copies of these markers from his or her mother and father, so a higher
similarity denotes a closer biological relationship. The probability of two samples matching is
around one in a billion (dna.gov). DNA profiles are compiled by using gel or capillary
electrophoresis to separate samples into a pattern distinctive of the subject s DNA based on ionic
charge, size, or mobility. Usually, samples in the database are searched at moderate stringency,
which requires that all alleles between the two samples match, but the number of alleles can vary,
accounting for DNA contamination or degradation. Partial, or candidate, matches are samples
that have a similar number of alleles in the forensic profile but are not exact, and are used in
familial DNA searching to find close biological relatives of the original forensic profile. Other
evidence is used to determine relatives, including Y chromosome analysis, which traces family
relationships based on the fact that the Y chromosome is transmitted directly between a father and
his sons; age; and geographic location. The process is based on the principle that first order
relatives have closer DNA profiles than unrelated individuals, and also on the sociological
assumption that criminal tendencies appear in families; according to the Bureau of Justice

How To Write An Essay On The Play Bat Boy
For the production of Bat Boy, there were many tasks to be performed. Like usual there were the
actors, the running crew, and the musicians. For this particular musical, the running crew had
many different parts. The carpentry crew, which I was a part of, had a variety of jobs for the
show. We were in charge of the fly system and for moving various portions of the set. For the fly
system, there were four ropes and a travelersystem set up. Three of the ropes were used for the
opening scene where the Taylor children would come in on their harnesses in the cave. Before the
curtain would open we would fly them to the top, then as the curtain was opened we would fly
them down to the ground. Each ropehad at least two people, if not more. The other rope was used
for the flying of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A lot of the learning had to do with synchronization. Working on a production of that size, it is a
necessity that everyone learns to work as a team. With an enormous cast and crew, and a set
with many pieces, we all had to work in a way so that we could all do our jobs without
interrupting others. The scenes in which we had to fly Bat Boy were the hardest because we
had to get timing right for everything, as well as the fluidity of the pull. The scene where he
flies out had to be a smooth movement. If it was choppy it wouldn t have looked right. Jumping
off the acting block and pulling the rope with others took plenty of practice as well. For every
fly scene, no matter how much practice we got, there would always be a point where we could
end up grabbing each others hands while we were pulling on the rope. While this could have
been a problem, we learned that we needed to just keep going with pulling the rope. Teamwork
wise, the slaughterhouse wall and door were also something that took a lot of practice. Despite the
challenges we faced while working on this production, we were able to overcome them and put on

World History Dbq
During the 20th century different regions and countries of the extra European world Japan, China,
India, the Middle East and Latin America have been invested by profound transformations, that in
part went to aliment the tensions that later would have brought to the second world war, and in part
determined the beginning of the process of decolonization .
3.1 Independence and unity to restore national sovereignty
In the lapse of time between the two world wars, China was experiencing the so called awakening
. In 1912 the empire was abolished and the republic was announced, but it fell into the hands of a
ruling class subjected to the Japanese hegemony. Sun Yat sen, who had already played a key role

In foreign relations, trade had a marginal value and foreign investment both inwards and outwards
were essentially absent. One of the greatest failures of Mao s notable project Great Leap Forward
in 1958 turned out to be one of the greatest failures as it was intended to collectivize all agricultural,
industrial and service life under people s communes and militias control . The first consequence of
this measure was an economic autarky that led to one of the worst famines of the twentieth century.
Developments in international policy pushed China towards a gradual isolation and growing
conflicts. Eventually China s international political and economic relations degenerated and led to a
serious military confrontation with its main ally, the Soviet Union and fighting a border war with
India in the 60s. Isolation, political and economic, reaches its highest levels with the outbreak of the
Cultural Revolution in 1966 until 1976 .

reiterated to users monthly to help insure the reduction of personal information being gathered
unlawfully.
Child Pornography
Child Pornography is the abuse of innocent children that has been put on display and oftentimes
sold for a profit. It is used largely by pedophiles to help lure other children into illicit relationship
situations that no child should ever have to endure. Because the Internet provides global access, the
number of sex offenders using this avenue has dramatically increased, allowing them greater access
to innocent victims.
Child pornography is illegal in the United States regardless of whether it is being sold, viewed,
saved on a computer or copied. Other countries have varying laws regarding child pornography
where it is illegal to produce it but not to have it stored on a computer that you own. Although laws
may be in place to protect against child pornography across the global community, those laws are
not always enforced. Some countries have no laws at all against child pornography, making those
countries a haven for distribution.

Differentiation of Cyclic Tertiary AmineCathinone Derivatives by
Product Ion Electron Ionization Mass Spectrometry
Abstract
Rationale
A number of synthetic cathinones (aminoketones, ?bath salts?) are tertiary amines containing a
cyclic amino group, most commonly pyrrolidine. These totally synthetic compounds can be
prepared in a number of regioisomeric designer modification and many of these can yield isomeric
major EI MS fragment ions.
Methods
A series of regioisomeric cyclic tertiary amines were prepared and evaluated in EI MS and MS
/MS product ion experiments. The cyclic amines azetidine, pyrrolidine, piperidine and azepane
were incorporated into a series of aminoketones related to the cathinone derivative drug of abuse
known as MDPV. Deuterium labeling in both the cyclic amine and alkyl side chain allowed for the

Comparing Zeffirelli And Luhrmann s Film
In the two films of Romeo and Juliet, directors Zeffirelli and Luhrmann portray the party scene in
two very different ways. The directors change the way the characters act, the costumes they wear,
and the setting of the scene, to make each version of the party scene different and unique. By
changing the way that their characters act, directors Zeffirelli and Luhrmann show the differences
between their two films. In the Zeffirelli version of Romeo and Juliet, the characters of Romeo,
Juliet, and the other party guests are very polite and proper. When Romeo first meets Juliet in the
Zeffirelli adaptation of the play, they are both more innocent than the Romeo and Juliet portrayed in
Luhrmann s film. They seem slightly tentative at first, but then make their way around the room in

Mercutio is crazy, hyped up on drugs, as he dresses like a drag queen and becomes the life of the
party. Romeo takes some drugs as well, then meets Juliet, falling madly in love with her angelic
qualities. Romeo does not seem to truly love Juliet at first sight in the Luhrmann film as he does
in Zeffirelli s adaptation, but he still has a great time with her at Capulet s party. The costumes
portrayed in both versions of Romeo and Juliet differ depending on how the director wanted to
display the characters. In the Zeffirelli film, the characters are shown in very traditional attire,
with very distinguishable red and blue outfits worn by the Capulet and Montague families. Juliet
is wearing a beautiful red gown, making her stand out from the other plainly dressed guests at the
masquerade, and showing that she is affiliated with the Capulet family . Romeo, a Montague, is
dressed in blue with the mask of a lion, allowing him to stay hidden in the shadows of the room. In
the Luhrmann adaptation, the characters are placed in a costume party, where Juliet is dressed as
an angel, and Romeo as a knight in shining

Ism Witch History
Despite al DawДЃnД«qД« s threat, al б№ўДЃdiq designated his son, IsmaКїil, as his successor and
imam. However, al DawДЃnД«qД« s persecution, threat, and frustration brought a new twist to the
life and history of ShД«Кїa communities. The key twist in this part of the ShД«Кїa history is the
issue of IsmДЃКїД«l s imamate and occultation. Historical accounts vary on IsmaКїil s death and
life during al б№ўДЃdiq s lifetime. While it is beyond the scope and focus of this paper to enter
into a debate on this matter, it suffices to state that the КїAbbДЃsid threat and persecution caused
the emergence of many splinter groups among al б№ўДЃdiq s followers. Remaining with the

According to Ibn NadД«m s and Niбє“ДЃm al Mulk s accounts, al HallДЃj was the first dДЃКїД«
of JibДЃl in present day Iran (Ibn Nadim, 2002:352; Niбє“ДЃm al Mulk, 1999:283 4). He might
have been the first person who could have assumed an official title of dДЃКїД«, but, as the
presented analyses have demonstrated, he certainly was not the first person who was involved in
the Ismaili daКїwa in Persia. GhiyДЃth fled to Khurasan around the end of the third/ninth and the
beginning of the fourth/tenth centuries, when a certain Sunni cleric, КїAbd AllДЃh al

Essay On Fetal Viability
Countries, cultures and different societies around the world have different views on the question
of when life begins. Some believe that life begins the moment an egg is fertilized by a sperm
(Kelly, 1995, p. 65). In Great Britain abortion is currently legal up until the end of the 24th week
of gestation (BBC Ethics, 2014). Unfortunately neither side of the debate can draw much support
upon this topic and there is no definitive answer given from medical, philosophical and religious
theories and ideologies. It is all a matter of opinion (Kelly, 1995). The topic then begs the question
of fetal viability. There have been developments that complicate some of the issues of fetal
viability. Fetal viability is known as the point at which a fetuscan survive outside of the mother s
womb (Nursing Times, 2014). There have always been opposition surrounding the 24th week limit
from the pro life movement, they want the abortiontime limit to be lowered. Since the... Show more

Christians believe for example that a fetus is a human being that deserves the same respect and
acknowledgment as any living human being. (Acred, 2012, p. 22). According to the Roman
Catholic Church life starts when the egg is fertilized by the sperm. The Church of England and
Scotland allow abortion if it threatens the life of the mother. (Eggbrolen, 1990, p. 33). The
Buddhist faith teaches that human life begins with conception and abortion is going against their
teachings. The law of the Buddhist faith states no killing or harm should come to any living thing
including a fetus (Bacon, 2004, p. 16). Hinduism states that an abortion is forbidden except in the
time when the life of the mother is in danger (Kelly, 1995, p. 265). Islamic teachings state that the
soil enters the fetus after 120 days after conception and abortion is only allowed in extreme cases
and early abortion is preferred (Garfield Hennessey, 1984, p.

My Pharmacy Career
My time spent interning at the UVM hospital pharmacy has helped me grow with the career I
want to pursue. Going into the class I was interested in healthcare that would provide a
comfortable living for myself. During my job shadow I learned how being a teammate is very
important the being a pharmacist. The team consists of doctors, nurses, technicians and the
patients. The comradery of each other helps with the job. This is helpful for me because I want to
be in a career I am comfortable with. I have been playing multiple team sports since I could walk.
It s part of my life to understand how a team works. The time spent talking to the pharmacists in the
chemotherapy wing helped by understand where I want to be in the pharmacycareer. Retail is for
the person that has social skills and economical skills along with the skills of being organized.
Working at a hospital is more working behind the scenes . It possesses similar skills but the
environment to applying them is different. It has helped me determine that I want to get my
MBA throughout sometime in my career. I heard that some people got their MBA as they got
their doctor of pharmacy but that is very ambitious. I think that I want to get my doctor of
pharmacy and then wherever I am working might be able to pay for my education to get an MBA.
I like how there are always a job for pharmacist, also jobs anywhere. That helps because I don t

Brett Ashley In Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises
Isn t it pretty to think so? (251). We are left with this one last line at the end of Ernest
Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises; a line spoken in reminiscence of a reality with Brett Ashley
that has always been intertwined with a dream of Brett Ashley. With the fiesta coming to its
completion, we are left with Jake and his company all splitting off on their own roads, yet there
lies Jake backtracking and ending up once again with Brett, this time at Hotel Montana. Jake led

relationship and ending right back there with Jake. It was this same song and dance that plagued

With Brett, there were certain inner demons that kept her moving from man to man and never re
discovering that feeling of love. Brett was described to have had a true love that she lost in the
war. Beyond that, she never found another man she loved to marry. During a conversation with
Cohn, Jake explicitly stated that she s done it twice in response to Jake s disbelief that Brett would
marry anybody she didn t love (46 47). She married for pleasure, but the commitment of love was
never there. Beyond that, Brett s first marriage following the death of her true love may have left
some scars that she carried well beyond the fact. When with Lord Ashley, he Always made Brett
sleep on the floor. Finally, when he got really bad, he used to tell her he d kill her. Always slept
with a loaded service revolver (207). Brett s first post war marriage was marked with superiority
and fear. She was subject his anger and a danger that was out of control. Living in fear of him
waking up and shooting heavily altered her experience with marriage, and the concept became
synonymous with the man being the superior. She hasn t had an absolutely happy life, Brett
(207). The fear that became of this instance caused her inability to settle. She moved from man
to man, completely aware of how she may have been disregarding their feelings, knowing that
she was the one in power. Being a helpless woman was out of the picture for her. Her desire for
control trumped what love meant. Even though she returned to Jake for support after all her
falls, the idea of marrying him and spending their lives together was still marked with the
possibility of Jake becoming her superior. Her desire to be in control, or more so stray away from
being controlled, remained of equal importance to her desire to have sex that Jake was incapable of
fulfilling. Just before returning to Jake for

The best solution I will suggest will be a bailout. This will give the government the opportunity to
monitor the finances of the ARC, allow the people that are employed there to continue working,
give them the opportunity to hire the workers they need to properly work there and the FDA will
have better control of the blood supply and how it is handled.
The way the American Red Cross is responding to these problems are not in an ethical way. They
are merely attempting to cover their own selves, which is leaving a lot of people out of a job
and overworking other individuals. This is only leading to more poor storage of blood and
when a disaster does strike, they do not have the full capabilities to respond in a timely manner.
The ARC did create this unethical problem by not being totally prepared for the disasters that
occurred simultaneously and with using the money they had saved for the disasters as severance
packages for the incompetent CEO s they had to get rid of over the past ten years. The American
Red Cross could have done so much more by foreseeing the trend of the disasters that were
occurring during the time and keeping a shorter leash on the next CEO that they hired after the last

Irony In A Good Man Is Hard To Find
Flannery O Conner, a Gothic literature writer, has written several short stories throughout her life.
Among these stories, two of them being A Good Man is Hard to Find and Good Country People,
she has included some of the most fleshed out and grotesque characters I have ever read. O Conner
brings her characters to life throughout her writing in near flawless and subtle detail with ironic
humor. For example, O Conner makes skillful use of ironic names for her characters. The titles and
names such as grandmother, the misfit, Joy/Hulga, and the bible salesman are used ironically.
These subtle characterizations help guide the reader to the final, and often times ironic, conclusions
all her characters deserve.
The Grandmothers character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He further explains how as a result of people focusing on her status as a grandmother rather than
how she behaves, most people dismiss her annoying nagging and racist comments (1). In the text of
A Good Man is Hard to Find, when the grandmother and the children are dancing, O Conner
emphasizes how one may see the grandma as a harmless happy person when the grandma asks
her son Bailey to dance. He refuses, claiming he does not have a sunny disposition like his mother
who is able to just get up and dance. Unfortunately, I must agree with Bandy because it is
something most people tend to do, and it is important to beyond a person s outward appearance.
As Bandy mentions, the grandmother and the misfit are often intertwined in many critics
reviews of A Good Man is Hard to Find (1). One of the most obvious ironies they share is that
you perceive one as being the opposite of the other for the wrong reasons. With the grandmother,
as stated before, one may assume her to be a good person, while she is in fact the opposite.
While the Misfit would most likely be associated as a murderer and a horrible monster, he in fact
is a decent human being. Wynne emphasizes the humor in the grandmother s attempt to save
herself by calling the Misfit one of her children (1). As if she is good and therefore he, being of
the same good blood, must also be good. In these aspects I completely agree with these writer s
interpretations of the grandmother and the

Sea Creatures Categorized as Zooplankton, Nekton, and...
There are many different creatures in the ocean. They are categorized into 3 different groups that
are Zooplankton, Nekton, and Benthos. In the ocean the zooplankton eat phytoplanktons.
Zooplankton are eaten by all of the larger animals. Phytoplankton self reproduce so they don t
need to eat other things. They create their own food. The Nekton eat the zooplankton because it
is a smaller species than the rest. Some of the most dangerous animals to both humans and other
sea animals are Leopard Seals. Leopard Seals are the second largest species in the Antarctic. The
Sea Leopard can be found mainly in Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, and the Atlantic
Ocean. It is estimated to live 26 years, some sea leopards live beyond 26 years of age. Leopard
seals mainly eat other seals, penguins, fishand krill.
The leopard seal is a big animal with a dark grey back and a white stomach. It was given the
name leopard seal because it has spots on its throat. Their front teeth are sharp and their teeth
lock in a way so they can kill easier and keep the other fish in it s mouth if it wasn t completely
dead. The leopard seal can usually be found in a pack. It spends most of the time in the water.
Leopard seals don t make much noise except a few grunts and it sometimes growls. A torpedo
ray has a soft yet fat and flabby body. It has loose skin and a muscular tail. They have electric
organs that are shaped like kidneys. They are pretty slow animals but they can cause a lot of harm.

The Life Of A Slave Girl By Harriet Jacobs
In her poignant autobiography, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Harriet Jacobs offers the
audience to experience slavery through a feminist perspective. Unlike neo slave narratives, Jacobs
uses the pseudonym Linda Brent to narrate her first person account in order to keep her identity
clandestine. Located in the Southern part of America, her incidents commence from her sheltered
life as a child to her subordination to her mistress upon her mother s death, and her continuing
struggle to live a dignified and virtuous life despite being enslaved. Using an unconventional
chronological structure (interrupting the narrative to address social, political, or historical

Falling Into Place Analysis
History ingrains itself in the modern world. From the first to last breath people take, they create the
history of themselves, along with the history of their ancestors and culture. Gordon Sheppard s

seemingly inconsequential past events to demonstrate how quickly a person s past spirals out of

In Amy Zhang s, Falling Into Place, Liz Emerson looks up to her father when she is a young girl,
and losing him is catastrophic:
On the first day of preschool, Liz dug her fingers into the leg of her father s jeans and held on
tight as the overly sunny teacher tried to drag her into the overly sunny classroom. Her dad
leaned down and told her to make a wish. Tearfully, Liz asked her daddy to stay with her. He
promised to never leave. On the first day of school after her father s funeral, Monica [Liz s mother]
dropped Liz off for the first time. Monica didn t try to hug her, and Liz didn t ask her to stay.
(Zhang 73)
As a preschool child, Liz s best friend is her father. He takes her out on little expeditions when
they have days off, and allows her to be herself when her mother is out on business trips. She
loves him, but he dies just as she begins aging into the state where she craves independence. His
death forces her into a deeper isolation and with an absent mother, she feels more alone than ever.
This contributes to her decision to crash her car and she specifically chooses the same day that
her father died on. Liz wants her mother to only suffer through one day of pain a year, believing
that her mother does not care for her as much as she truly

The Importance Of Plagiarism In College Students
In short: Don t do it. But in truth, that is not good enough.
I have assigned and graded or had graded by TA s tens of thousands of bits of writing by college
students over the years. A lot of my friends are teachers. My wife is a teacher. I ve seen it all. If
you are a student trying to avoid getting caught plagiarizing, I can help you.
You need to know the following three things. These facts will save you from getting tossed out of
college or having a mark on your high school record.
1) Teachers hate plagiarism more than they hate stepping on puppies and kittens. If there are two
students in a class, and one has plagiarized an assignment and one has crushed some puppies and
kittens, and the teacher only has time to turn one of them it to the administration, they ll turn in the
plagiarizer.
2) There has almost never been a case where a student was proved to have plagiarized something
(by matching the original to the student s paper) where the plagiarism wasn t already blindingly
obvious to the teacher to begin with. In other words, when you plagiarize something, it is always
spotted immediately. If some other student tells you that they got away with it, they are lying to
you (like House says, people always lie) or the teacher chose to not turn them in. Yet.
Given this, you should understand that plagiarism is never a good strategy for improving your
grade. Just don t do it.

Garmin is a global supplier of Global Positioning Systems. The company targets primarily the
aviation, maritime and fitness industry. Garmin is the current leader in the GPS market boasting
the highest equity and lowest debt in the industry. For Garmin to merge with another company, it
would have to provide significant long term synergy or allow expansion into a new market entirely.
A merger between Garmin and Trimble Navigation would benefit both companies and their

If Garmin watched this company closely it could provide an opportunity to gain a significant
portion of the overseas Personal Navigation Device (PND) market. This is currently the only
sector Trimble beats Garmin at a 34% to 47% ratio, and has for the past seven years. This merger
would also require detailed consideration as it would require international equities to be merged
along with significant human and financial resources.
Conclusion
Garmin stands to gain from a merger with Trimble. The merger would allow Garmin to acquire a
significant portion of the European personal navigation device market share at minimal cost.
Garmin has the cash resources to execute the acquisition and while Trimble s finances are in
decline for the near term they are expected to remain a solid long term investment. The acquisition
would result in an approximate $13 dollar increase in Garmin s stock price, and increase long term
equities. Other companies Garmin should consider are KVL Technologies for its opportunity to get
ahead of maritime mobile communications technologies, and Roper Industries, which would enable
expansion into a new market segment that hedges future losses in the PND market.

Benefits Of Equal Pay In Sports
Ladies and gentleman (Pathos, direct address), can you imagine a world where men and women,
who work the same job, receive the same pay? Women should be given equal pay as men s
athletics because they have equal opportunities. As written in a legislation in 1972, it is stated that
No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be
denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity
receiving Federal financial assistance. (Ethos, appeal to audience) This statement proves that
women should not be excluded and that they in fact do have a right when it comes, not only to

several decades, and proved to the world that they are much more than what people believe they

Capital Gains And Its Effect On Income
During inflationary periods, a significant portion of capital appreciation represents at catch up to
higher prices as opposed to a real increase in income (Slemrod Bakija, 2008). Therefore, if a
taxpayer holds an investment for a significant period of time, the amount of gain realized on the
sale of the investment may exceed the investment s cost basis in terms of the actual dollars
received, although a large portion of the gain being realized may be due to inflation as opposed to
a true increase in the value of the investment (Jones Sommerfeld, 1995).
Realization of Capital Income
Another argument in favor of the preferential tax treatment of long term capital gains is that
capital gains are not recognized annually during the years gains are being accrued. Rather than
requiring taxpayers to value their capital assets annually and include the change in value in their
taxable income, long term capital gains are taxed only when realized (Slemrod Bakija, 2008).
By waiting to recognize the gain at one time during the specific year the gain is realized, the
taxpayer risks being taxed at a higher rate. This is due to the progressive design of the tax rate
system. Jones and Sommerfeld (1995) contended that had the gain been taxed in increments as the
asset appreciated in value, being taxed at a higher rate may have been avoided. The preferential tax
rate on long term capital gains offsets the artificially high tax caused by taxing the accumulated
gain all at one time (Jones

Essay about Ambiguity in Young Goodman Brown
Had Goodman Brown fallen asleep in the forest and only dreamed a wild dream of a witch
meeting? (387) The story Young Goodman Brown is portrayed as a straight forward tale of a
man on a venture. It is not overly difficult to comprehend or interpret, however it does have
several great ambiguities. As Hawthorne s tale has a great deal of symbolism, it is all in
retrospect to the ambiguous entities within the tale. The formalistic approach will be used to
analyze the ambiguities in the story, mainly focusing upon the use of dark and light contrasts. The
questions of why did Goodman Brown leave his wife Faith and venture into the forest and was his
journey into the forest a reality or a dream bring a grand weight of ambiguityupon the... Show more

This could be his way of proving himself worthy in some way due to the fact that he say that
neither his father nor his grandfather had completed his task at hand. The second idea is in the
reasoning that Hawthorne had simply utilized it as the setting and forged the story around the
forest and its characterized darkness and evil notions compared to that of the town which is light
and absent of evil until Goodman Brown returns. This is a definite formalistic observation in the
contrast of forest and the town. The forest is used as a setting which Hawthorne utilizes to expose
the faults in all of mankind, including the self professed religious. No matter which way you
believe, Hawthorne has successfully left the issue as a mystery and an undeclared element of the
narrative.
Then comes the second impending question of whether or not the story even happened; whether or
not the tale was a dream, or an actual occurrence in the life of Goodman Brown. Entering the text,
there is no conclusive evidence of a dream state. It states, Young Goodman Browncame forth at
sunset, into the street at Salem village. (375) Simply speaking, Goodman Brown sets forth upon a
journey complete with a clearly stated beginning and an end. However, the middle is left for one to
question. Once in the forest, the story begins to offer characteristics that would not relate to a
truthful tale in the conscious state by Goodman Brown. This mostly due to Goodman Brown

Flat Hemorrhagic Smallpox Research Paper
Maddie Kusch
PAP Biology 6
February 9, 2016
Flat Hemorrhagic Smallpox Smallpox is caused by the virus variola, also known by its family
name Poxviridae. It comes in four variola forms: ordinary, modified, flat, and hemorrhagic. The
flat and hemorrhagic strains of smallpox are the most severe and usually result in death. Smallpox
is a highly contagious disease in which a person could have it for twelve to fourteen days before
symptoms first appear. Common symptoms include high fever, fatigue, headaches, exhaustion, and
back and abdominal pain that can lead to vomiting. Soon after these first signs a rash will begin to
appear starting on the face, then moving to the limbs, and finally the torso. The rash consists of
many red spots. They turn into blisters and then later scab leaving scars. However, most flat
hemorrhagic smallpox victims don t survive to see the scars left behind. The immune system of a
person with hemorrhagic smallpox is severely weakened. This allows the virus to grow faster in
the spleen and bone marrow causing flawed blood clotting and usually kills the victim by the fifth
or sixth day of the rash. This deadly virus can be transmitted through air, saliva, and the sores on a
victim. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

International Relations During The Cold War

relations changed after the cold war in four parts. The first part will be talking about

fourth part will have changes in statehood. The fifth part will talk about gender and then the
conclusion. Environment has been growing as an academic subject for the past three decades
and now it is on the international agenda (Jackson). Since the human population is nearly
doubling, there is a fight for higher standards of living as a threat to the environment. The cause
and effect is very simple. If the human population is expanding, the intake of food consumption
will increase. The effect is hard but easy to consume, food scarcity. The aftermath of food
production overtaxing the land might lead to deforestation and desertification (Jackson).
Industrial mass production of food threatens the depletion of raw materials and energy. While
the production is ever so good, there is an accepted fact that the gases released from the
production buildings will create chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) gases. In the book, it tells us that
CFC gases will cause damage to the Earth s ozone layer or the term called is Global Warming

demand, a change in supply, other than wages, will shift the supply of teachers outward or
inward. Outward will mean that more teachers are willing to work for a school district at any
wage. An inward shift means that fewer teachers are willing to work at any wage. Increasing
wages that effective teachers can command in another occupation, means that any given wage,
fewer teachers will be willing to provide their teaching service. The labor market for teachers will
be in equilibrium when the number of effective teachers who are willing to teach is exactly equal
to the number of teachers the school district is willing to employ. Also, there is equilibrium when
the quantity supplied is equal to the quantity demanded at a single wage. This is what economists
call the market clearing range. Some teachers are willing to work at wages set below the market
clearing wage. This creates a problem because there are not enough effective teachers willing to
work under the market clearing price to meet the quantity demanded at that wage. There are
however, effective teachers whose decisions of employment are based on other things, not just
wage. They are not throwing out the financial obligations,

Compare and Contrast the Northern and Italian Renaissance
Italian High Renaissance artists achieved ideal of harmony and balance comparable with the
works of ancient Greece or Rome. Renaissance Classicism was a form of art that removed the
extraneous detail and showed the world as it was. Forms, colors and proportions, light and shade
effects, spatial harmony, composition, perspective, anatomy all are handled with total control and a
level of accomplishment for which there are no real precedents.
Leonardo da Vinci was a Florentine artist, one of the great masters of the High Renaissance, who
was also celebrated as a painter, sculptor, architect, engineer, and scientist. Leonardo fuses his
subject with the landscape behind her by means of light. He called this technique sfumato (
smokiness) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Michelangelo s David embodies the athletic ideal of antiquity in its muscularity, here the
male nude implies, as it had in classical antiquity, heroic or even divine qualities. David also
represents the power of right over might.
Raphael Sanzio or Raffaello was an Italian master painter and architect of the Florentine school
in High Renaissance, celebrated for the perfection and grace of his paintings. He was also called
Raffaello Sanzio, Raffaello Santi, Raffaello da Urbino or Rafael Sanzio da Urbino. He moved to
Florence at the age of 20, where he was exposed to Leonardo da Vinci, whom he never ceased to
admire as a mentor and father figure , and to Michelangelo. Raphael learned from both men, but
while he made use of their exploration of human anatomy, he added sentiment to his paintings. He
was commissioned by Julius II to paint some of the rooms at his palace at the Vatican. This
marked a turning point, and he was only twenty five years old. He remained almost exclusively
in the service of Julius and his successor Leo X. He painted a series of frescoes in the papal
apartments as well as those of the Stanza della Segnatura, which include his vast School of Athens.
Between 1520 and 1600 a growing dissatisfaction with classical techniques and styles led artists
towards developing a new movement later called

Jim Gilmore s President Of The National Rifle Association...
There are issues in the U.S today just like any other country in this world. There are especially
more after our last presidency because Obama didn t make the best decisions. Now the U.S. is
coming up on the next election and we need someone who can fix these issues and problems.
That s where James Stuart Gilmore, who wishes to be known as Jim, comes in. Jim Gilmore is a
66 year old man who grew up in the working class area of Richmond, Virginia. He is a
Republican candidate who has served in the Army, as the governor of Virginia, and is a member
of the National Rifle Association s Board of Directors still to this day. (2)He would be focussed
on the issues of the U.S. and bring the U.S. back its potential. I am committed to addressing the
central problems facing the nation, is Jim Gilmore s exact words when he announced he is
running for president. (3) I believe Jim Gilmore would be a good president for this nation
because of his stance on gun control, foreign relations, and abortion which are major problems in
the U.S. today. There are many problems in the U.S but Jim Gilmore is focusing on three that
have been troubling the U.S. There have been many questions on abortion. Should it be legal?
Should there be a time range? Should it be banned? There has even been religion brought into the
fight. Jim Gilmore says that it shouldn t be allowed before eight weeks of pregnancy and no later
than twelve weeks of pregnancy. (1) Gun control has also caused a havoc in America.

Crime Is The Nature Of Crime
It is widely assumed that the media, particularly television, newspapers and the internet, are
primary sources of knowledge and understanding of crime issues in our 21st century modern
society (Nguyen et. al, 2005). However, there is widespread concern that the level and type of
crime reported in the media produces an inaccurate view of the reality of crimein the community
(Fields Jerin, 1996; Windschuttle, 1988). The purpose of this essay is to address the question; is
the nature of crime in our society accurately presented in the media? To effectively provide an
answer, a discussion on public perceptions, crime statistics and the impact of crime reporting in the
media will commence. Following will be a conclusion that will state that the nature of crime in our
society is not accurately presented in the media.
There has been extensive research comparing the nature of crime in the media with the nature of
crime in reality with most evaluations concluding that the media greatly distorts or misrepresents
not only the nature of crime but also crime rates, typical victims and typical offenders (Hayes and
Prenzler, 2015). Often, this research draws upon official crime statistics which have consistently
shown that most crime is non violent and not rising (Davis Dossetor, 2010) which is oppositional
to the media s portrayal (Garofalo, 1981). Even so, public perceptions continue to emanate a
reflection of the media s influence as Davis Dossetor (2010) highlight through a

Telehealth Benefits
Telehealth is remote exchange of data between a patient and doctor that facilitate in better diagnosis
of patients and monitoring typically used to support patients with long term conditions. How
telehealth improves the quality of care:
Telehealth uses technology to provide services that assist in the management of long term health
conditions. For patients, telehealth can be a blessing that allows them to remain in their homes
rather than moving to rehabilitation facilities. By taking an active role in their own care, some
patients are reducing the number of medications they take, visiting emergency rooms less
frequently and even lessening depressive symptoms.
There are real benefits for both the patient and the clinician. The individual patient has more control
and understanding of their long term health condition, and the clinicians utilising telehealth as part
of a care pathway can ensure that they are proactively involved in the ongoing wellbeing of their
patient, managing timely interventions and helping to improve their patient s quality of life.
Through telehealth consultants patients are able to participate in clinical trials unavailable in many
rural areas.This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The New President Faces Challenges At The Department Of...
The Life of an Executive Order
The new president faces significant challenges at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Rectifying these short comings is important if the U.S. is to remain secure and prosperous.
On January 27th, 2017, president Trump signed an executive order dealing with immigration. The
order took effect immediately and sparked anger and confusion across the nation. Dozens of
international travelers were detained at airports across the country. Most of those detained were
simply caught up in a government communication limbo. The order placed a temporary moratorium
on immigration from seven countries Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen.
The people who elected Donald Trump president say the furor ... Show more content on

The order had been reviewed by the Justice Department Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) before it
was issued. The OLC, whose authority addresses the form and whether the order is properly
drafted, approved the order. Yates objected to the president s executive order. Yates declared that as
long as she was acting attorney general, the Department of Justice would not present arguments in
defense of the executive order until she became convinced that it was appropriate to do so. Clearly,
since Yates did not issue this statement on the grounds that the order was illegal, she based her
decision on her disagreement with the justice of the order.
Consequently, Yates was fired. This action fortified the legal battle we are debating today. Timeline
of Trumps Order and the Court Filings
Sunday, Jan. 29 Federal lawsuits were filed in New York, Massachusetts, Virginia and Washington
on behalf of travelers who were detained in airports in the United States.
Later Sunday evening, the White House said that legal permanent residents are exempt from the
travel restrictions in the new executive order, referring to green card holders.
Monday, Jan. 30 Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed a lawsuit in the United
States District Court in Seattle citing examples of residents impacted by the ban. The lawsuit
included a separate emergency motion for a nationwide, temporary restraining order that would bar
the enforcement of parts of

Jacqueline Wilson Is The Most Important Moment In Life
Life is nothing without ups and downs. They make it abundantly rich. While growing up in the
United Kingdom and then moving to Canada, I encountered many problems that shaped me into
the beautiful young woman I am today. With the help of my family, peers, and teachers, I was able
to overcome troubling occurrences with ease. Even though all the events taught me something in a
way, three of them in particular stood out to me. Meeting Jacqueline Wilson, the lossof my best
friend, and the death of my grandfather were, and always will be, the most important moments in
my life.
Many people in my life come and go, but only a few can provide inspiration I need to become the
best version of myself. One of these people happened to be Jacqueline Wilson, an English writer of
children s literature. Although I have never met her in real life, I have met her in the sense that her
books reveal so much of herself. Her books dealt with many controversial topics, such as
adoption, divorce, and mental illnesses. These were topics I normally brushed aside, but she made
me change my way of thinking. I used to think that I couldn t do anything to help people with
problems like these. After reading her books, however, I realized that it doesn t matter how much
or how little you contribute. She inspired me to help others with problems and mental illnesses and
promoted that small inputs are still significant. She was the one made me believe that I can make a
difference. With her expertise,

Tesco s Success At Tesco Essay
Tesco is one of the most famous stores in the UK with it being our biggest sales retailer earning
billions in profits. The statistics of the supermarket are extremely impressive with over 330,000
staff employed, being the third largest supermarket, over 16 million Clubcard users in the UK and
it being said that one pound in every seven has been spent at Tesco. All of this used to just be a
small stall in East London when it was created by Jack Cohen in 1919 simply selling groceries
making a profit of just ВЈ1 on the first day. Five years later, Cohen purchased a shipment of tea
and Tesco became a brand with its first store opening another five years later, in 1929, in North
London. Tesco is now not only just a grocery store, it also sells petrol (becoming the largest
independent petrol retailer in the UK), insurance, has its own bank, credit cards, loans along with
products such as its own clothing line F F, games consoles, televisions and sports equipment.
However, in 2014 Tesco had a shocking downfall when it had been revealed that they had
exaggerated their half year profit forecast by a massive ВЈ250 million.
The downfall of Tesco has resulted in their chief executive, Philip Clarke stepping down and their
UK chief executive Chris Bush, UK finance director Carl Rogberg, UK food commercial director
John Scouler and food sourcing director Matt Simister all being suspended after an investigation
into how it had happened. Tesco overstating their profits has affected them

  • 2. Observation Paper On Addiction Being on the outside of addiction We ve all heard of addicts but what really qualifies an individual as an addict? Addiction is defined as the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma. (Dictionary.com, 2002) Last Monday, I had the opportunity to observe an open Alcoholics Anonymoussession at Calvary Chapel in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Upon arrival, there were two people already there. One lady appeared to be the facilitator as she was seated at a table with sign in sheets and class material. I quickly introduced myself and explained that I was there to observe as a class assignment. She warmly welcomed me, handed me some reading material and offered me to sit where I pleased. The room was located in the multipurpose room of the church. There were no windows, just an assortment of chairs positioned in a circle for easy discussion. While waiting for the others to trickle in, I was educated that the weekly sessions were formed for addicts to discuss their journey of addiction, and to provide and receive support for their decision to remain sober. The meeting opened with group facilitator making everyone aware that I was a student observer that would be observing for the night. I was asked to introduce myself and I also agreed to keep their stories and names anonymous when writing this paper. It somewhat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Low Social Class Relationships In Charles DickensGreat... People in society do not give enough credit to those who raised them. We take advantage of all the sacrifices and love they give to us as children. They are the reason we are who we are today. In the novel, Great Expectations, Dickens tells the story of Pip, the protagonist, suffered through emotional abuse during his childhood and how he does not understand the importance of the good people in his life. As a young adult, he moves to London, where he encounters people from many walks of life, businessmen, convicts and lawyers who influence him in many ways both positive and negative. Pip is negatively influenced by the powerful women in his childhood, which leads to his ungrateful and stagnant character; eventually, when he loses his fortune that he realizes that one of the good people from his childhood, Biddy, did have a positive influence on him but he did not realize it at the time. Mrs. Joe, Pip s motherly figure, has a low self esteem due to her low social class status and it is one of the main reasons she is abusive towards Pip, having a profoundly negative impact on him. Dickens uses the image of an apron to depict her social class status: I may truly say I ve never had this apron of mine off, since born you were. It s bad enough to be a blacksmith s wife (and him a Gargery) without being your mother. (9). Mrs. Joe feels tied down to the lower class of society because of her apron. The apron represents her connection to bondage of motherhood, since as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. DNA In Crime Scene Investigation Nowadays, DNA is a crucial component of a crime scene investigation, used to both to identify perpetrators from crime scenes and to determine a suspect s guilt or innocence (Butler, 2005). The method of constructing a distinctive fingerprint from an individual s DNA was first described by Alec Jeffreys in 1985. He discovered regions of repetitions of nucleotides inherent in DNAstrands that differed from person to person (now known as variable number of tandem repeats, or VNTRs), and developed a technique to adjust the length variation into a definitive identity marker (Butler, 2005). Since then, DNA fingerprinting has been refined to be an indispensible source of evidence, expanded into multiple methods befitting different types of DNA... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each person inherits two copies of these markers from his or her mother and father, so a higher similarity denotes a closer biological relationship. The probability of two samples matching is around one in a billion (dna.gov). DNA profiles are compiled by using gel or capillary electrophoresis to separate samples into a pattern distinctive of the subject s DNA based on ionic charge, size, or mobility. Usually, samples in the database are searched at moderate stringency, which requires that all alleles between the two samples match, but the number of alleles can vary, accounting for DNA contamination or degradation. Partial, or candidate, matches are samples that have a similar number of alleles in the forensic profile but are not exact, and are used in familial DNA searching to find close biological relatives of the original forensic profile. Other evidence is used to determine relatives, including Y chromosome analysis, which traces family relationships based on the fact that the Y chromosome is transmitted directly between a father and his sons; age; and geographic location. The process is based on the principle that first order relatives have closer DNA profiles than unrelated individuals, and also on the sociological assumption that criminal tendencies appear in families; according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics Correctional Populations ... • 5. How To Write An Essay On The Play Bat Boy For the production of Bat Boy, there were many tasks to be performed. Like usual there were the actors, the running crew, and the musicians. For this particular musical, the running crew had many different parts. The carpentry crew, which I was a part of, had a variety of jobs for the show. We were in charge of the fly system and for moving various portions of the set. For the fly system, there were four ropes and a travelersystem set up. Three of the ropes were used for the opening scene where the Taylor children would come in on their harnesses in the cave. Before the curtain would open we would fly them to the top, then as the curtain was opened we would fly them down to the ground. Each ropehad at least two people, if not more. The other rope was used for the flying of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A lot of the learning had to do with synchronization. Working on a production of that size, it is a necessity that everyone learns to work as a team. With an enormous cast and crew, and a set with many pieces, we all had to work in a way so that we could all do our jobs without interrupting others. The scenes in which we had to fly Bat Boy were the hardest because we had to get timing right for everything, as well as the fluidity of the pull. The scene where he flies out had to be a smooth movement. If it was choppy it wouldn t have looked right. Jumping off the acting block and pulling the rope with others took plenty of practice as well. For every fly scene, no matter how much practice we got, there would always be a point where we could end up grabbing each others hands while we were pulling on the rope. While this could have been a problem, we learned that we needed to just keep going with pulling the rope. Teamwork wise, the slaughterhouse wall and door were also something that took a lot of practice. Despite the challenges we faced while working on this production, we were able to overcome them and put on a great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the greatest failures of Mao s notable project Great Leap Forward in 1958 turned out to be one of the greatest failures as it was intended to collectivize all agricultural, industrial and service life under people s communes and militias control . The first consequence of this measure was an economic autarky that led to one of the worst famines of the twentieth century. Developments in international policy pushed China towards a gradual isolation and growing conflicts. Eventually China s international political and economic relations degenerated and led to a serious military confrontation with its main ally, the Soviet Union and fighting a border war with India in the 60s. The directors change the way the characters act, the costumes they wear, and the setting of the scene, to make each version of the party scene different and unique. By changing the way that their characters act, directors Zeffirelli and Luhrmann show the differences between their two films. In the Zeffirelli version of Romeo and Juliet, the characters of Romeo, Juliet, and the other party guests are very polite and proper. The costumes portrayed in both versions of Romeo and Juliet differ depending on how the director wanted to display the characters. In the Zeffirelli film, the characters are shown in very traditional attire, with very distinguishable red and blue outfits worn by the Capulet and Montague families. However, al DawДЃnД«qД« s persecution, threat, and frustration brought a new twist to the life and history of ShД«Кїa communities. The key twist in this part of the ShД«Кїa history is the issue of IsmДЃКїД«l s imamate and occultation. Historical accounts vary on IsmaКїil s death and life during al б№ўДЃdiq s lifetime. While it is beyond the scope and focus of this paper to enter into a debate on this matter, it suffices to state that the КїAbbДЃsid threat and persecution caused the emergence of many splinter groups among al б№ўДЃdiq s followers. • 12. Essay On Fetal Viability Countries, cultures and different societies around the world have different views on the question of when life begins. Some believe that life begins the moment an egg is fertilized by a sperm (Kelly, 1995, p. 65). In Great Britain abortion is currently legal up until the end of the 24th week of gestation (BBC Ethics, 2014). Unfortunately neither side of the debate can draw much support upon this topic and there is no definitive answer given from medical, philosophical and religious theories and ideologies. It is all a matter of opinion (Kelly, 1995). The topic then begs the question of fetal viability. There have been developments that complicate some of the issues of fetal viability. Fetal viability is known as the point at which a fetuscan survive outside of the mother s womb (Nursing Times, 2014). There have always been opposition surrounding the 24th week limit from the pro life movement, they want the abortiontime limit to be lowered. Since the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way the American Red Cross is responding to these problems are not in an ethical way. They are merely attempting to cover their own selves, which is leaving a lot of people out of a job and overworking other individuals. This is only leading to more poor storage of blood and when a disaster does strike, they do not have the full capabilities to respond in a timely manner. The ARC did create this unethical problem by not being totally prepared for the disasters that occurred simultaneously and with using the money they had saved for the disasters as severance packages for the incompetent CEO s they had to get rid of over the past ten years. The titles and names such as grandmother, the misfit, Joy/Hulga, and the bible salesman are used ironically. These subtle characterizations help guide the reader to the final, and often times ironic, conclusions all her characters deserve. The Grandmothers character ... He further explains how as a result of people focusing on her status as a grandmother rather than how she behaves, most people dismiss her annoying nagging and racist comments (1). In the text of A Good Man is Hard to Find, when the grandmother and the children are dancing, O Conner emphasizes how one may see the grandma as a harmless happy person when the grandma asks her son Bailey to dance. He refuses, claiming he does not have a sunny disposition like his mother who is able to just get up and dance. Unfortunately, I must agree with Bandy because it is something most people tend to do, and it is important to beyond a person s outward appearance. As Bandy mentions, the grandmother and the misfit are often intertwined in many critics reviews of A Good Man is Hard to Find (1). One of the most obvious ironies they share is that you perceive one as being the opposite of the other for the wrong reasons. With the grandmother, as stated before, one may assume her to be a good person, while she is in fact the opposite. While the Misfit would most likely be associated as a murderer and a horrible monster, he in fact is a decent human being. Wynne emphasizes the humor in the grandmother s attempt to save herself by calling the Misfit one of her children (1). As if she is good and therefore he, being of the same good blood, must also be good. In these aspects I completely agree with these writer s interpretations of the grandmother and the ... • 19. The Life Of A Slave Girl By Harriet Jacobs In her poignant autobiography, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Harriet Jacobs offers the audience to experience slavery through a feminist perspective. Unlike neo slave narratives, Jacobs uses the pseudonym Linda Brent to narrate her first person account in order to keep her identity clandestine. Located in the Southern part of America, her incidents commence from her sheltered life as a child to her subordination to her mistress upon her mother s death, and her continuing struggle to live a dignified and virtuous life despite being enslaved. Using an unconventional chronological structure (interrupting the narrative to address social, political, or historical commentary) Jacobs centralizes few arguments such as the economics of slavery, hegemony, pain (physical emotional) and the quest for freedom. However, she admonishes the reader not to be empathetic for her for ...it is not to awaken sympathy for myself [to which] I am telling you truthfully what I suffered. I do it to kindle a flame of compassion in your hearts for my sisters who are still in bondage (Jacobs, 28). To introduce, in describing the economics of slavery, historians concluded that although male slaves were generally treasured for their labor and physical strength, whereas females were valued for their offspring. In addition to the terrors and horrific tragedies endured by enslaved men, women bore the added anguish of being wrenched from their children. To exacerbate their continuous agony and ... I have assigned and graded or had graded by TA s tens of thousands of bits of writing by college students over the years. A lot of my friends are teachers. My wife is a teacher. I ve seen it all. If you are a student trying to avoid getting caught plagiarizing, I can help you. You need to know the following three things. These facts will save you from getting tossed out of college or having a mark on your high school record. 1) Teachers hate plagiarism more than they hate stepping on puppies and kittens. If there are two students in a class, and one has plagiarized an assignment and one has crushed some puppies and kittens, and the teacher only has time to turn one of them it to the administration, they ll turn in the plagiarizer. 2) There has almost never been a case where a student was proved to have plagiarized something (by matching the original to the student s paper) where the plagiarism wasn t already blindingly obvious to the teacher to begin with. In other words, when you plagiarize something, it is always spotted immediately. If some other student tells you that they got away with it, they are lying to you (like House says, people always lie) or the teacher chose to not turn them in. Yet. Given this, you should understand that plagiarism is never a good strategy for improving your grade. Just don t do it. ________________________________ Check out our new science podcast, Ikonokast. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Capital Gains And Its Effect On Income During inflationary periods, a significant portion of capital appreciation represents at catch up to higher prices as opposed to a real increase in income (Slemrod Bakija, 2008). Therefore, if a taxpayer holds an investment for a significant period of time, the amount of gain realized on the sale of the investment may exceed the investment s cost basis in terms of the actual dollars received, although a large portion of the gain being realized may be due to inflation as opposed to a true increase in the value of the investment (Jones Sommerfeld, 1995). Realization of Capital Income Another argument in favor of the preferential tax treatment of long term capital gains is that capital gains are not recognized annually during the years gains are being accrued. Rather than requiring taxpayers to value their capital assets annually and include the change in value in their taxable income, long term capital gains are taxed only when realized (Slemrod Bakija, 2008). By waiting to recognize the gain at one time during the specific year the gain is realized, the taxpayer risks being taxed at a higher rate. This is due to the progressive design of the tax rate system. Jones and Sommerfeld (1995) contended that had the gain been taxed in increments as the asset appreciated in value, being taxed at a higher rate may have been avoided. The preferential tax rate on long term capital gains offsets the artificially high tax caused by taxing the accumulated gain all at one time (Jones ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is not overly difficult to comprehend or interpret, however it does have several great ambiguities. As Hawthorne s tale has a great deal of symbolism, it is all in retrospect to the ambiguous entities within the tale. The formalistic approach will be used to analyze the ambiguities in the story, mainly focusing upon the use of dark and light contrasts. This is a definite formalistic observation in the contrast of forest and the town. The forest is used as a setting which Hawthorne utilizes to expose the faults in all of mankind, including the self professed religious. No matter which way you believe, Hawthorne has successfully left the issue as a mystery and an undeclared element of the narrative. Flat Hemorrhagic Smallpox Research Paper Maddie Kusch PAP Biology 6 February 9, 2016 Flat Hemorrhagic Smallpox Smallpox is caused by the virus variola, also known by its family name Poxviridae. It comes in four variola forms: ordinary, modified, flat, and hemorrhagic. The flat and hemorrhagic strains of smallpox are the most severe and usually result in death. Smallpox is a highly contagious disease in which a person could have it for twelve to fourteen days before symptoms first appear. Common symptoms include high fever, fatigue, headaches, exhaustion, and back and abdominal pain that can lead to vomiting. Soon after these first signs a rash will begin to appear starting on the face, then moving to the limbs, and finally the torso. The rash consists of many red spots. They turn into blisters and then later scab leaving scars. However, most flat hemorrhagic smallpox victims don t survive to see the scars left behind. The immune system of a person with hemorrhagic smallpox is severely weakened. Agriculture is common in most Hispanic families, whether it is owning a simple lemon tree or growing a small aloe vera plant, there is always something sprouting. I found it unusual that no matter what oppression we were put through we were still able to preserve our most important customs and values. Many other cultures were stripped of their identities, and till today we are able to pass down our traditions. Learning about how my family traveled from deep into Mexico to Southern California brining their culture with them is amazing. Being able to speak a different language with people that share the same ethnicity reminds me of how special my cultural identity is. The Mexican culture is rich of culture has not been affected by newer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Compare And Contrast Immanuel Kant And Kant I will compare Immanuel Kant s and John Stuart Mills methods of determining the moral action in a situation by using the issue of abortion, and come to conclusion of whose argument is stronger. Abortion is the discontinuation of a pregnancy, which is generally followed by the death the fetus (Merriam Webester), and there are many moral questions raised with the issue which make it a heated topic in popular culture. The one that will be discussed in this paper included is it morally right to kill if the fetus is a person, if the mother s life is in danger, if the mother s life is not in danger, if the pregnancy was accidental. • 38. Effects Of Supply And Demand On Teachers Salaries Claire Skaggs D. Schneiderheinze Macroecomics 2 May 2015 Effects of Supply and Demand on Teachers Salaries Supply and Demand has a major effect on our economy. It effects teacher s salaries more than people think. Salaries are determined by the market forces of supply and demand. Today, schools try to focus on obtaining teachers who have a strong impact on student s learning abilities. Everyone assumes that teachers are just one group that has the same subject specialties, years of experience, and the same education credentials. People also assume that all teachers are paid the same salary and that everyone agrees how to identify an effective teacher. These assumptions are unrealistic but helpful in explaining further the concepts of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A higher number of effective teachers are willing to provide their skills to school districts if the wage is high than if it is low. Meaning that effective teachers are willing to work for school districts that have higher paying salaries, even if the working conditions are poor. Along with demand, a change in supply, other than wages, will shift the supply of teachers outward or inward. Outward will mean that more teachers are willing to work for a school district at any wage. An inward shift means that fewer teachers are willing to work at any wage. Increasing wages that effective teachers can command in another occupation, means that any given wage, fewer teachers will be willing to provide their teaching service. The labor market for teachers will be in equilibrium when the number of effective teachers who are willing to teach is exactly equal to the number of teachers the school district is willing to employ. Also, there is equilibrium when the quantity supplied is equal to the quantity demanded at a single wage. This is what economists call the market clearing range. Some teachers are willing to work at wages set below the market clearing wage. This creates a problem because there are not enough effective teachers willing to work under the market clearing price to meet the quantity demanded at that wage. There are however, effective teachers whose decisions of employment are based on other things, not just wage. They are not throwing out the financial obligations, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Renaissance Classicism was a form of art that removed the extraneous detail and showed the world as it was. Forms, colors and proportions, light and shade effects, spatial harmony, composition, perspective, anatomy all are handled with total control and a level of accomplishment for which there are no real precedents. Raphael learned from both men, but while he made use of their exploration of human anatomy, he added sentiment to his paintings. He was commissioned by Julius II to paint some of the rooms at his palace at the Vatican. This marked a turning point, and he was only twenty five years old. He remained almost exclusively in the service of Julius and his successor Leo X. He painted a series of frescoes in the papal apartments as well as those of the Stanza della Segnatura, which include his vast School of Athens. • 41. Crime Is The Nature Of Crime It is widely assumed that the media, particularly television, newspapers and the internet, are primary sources of knowledge and understanding of crime issues in our 21st century modern society (Nguyen et. al, 2005). However, there is widespread concern that the level and type of crime reported in the media produces an inaccurate view of the reality of crimein the community (Fields Jerin, 1996; Windschuttle, 1988). The purpose of this essay is to address the question; is the nature of crime in our society accurately presented in the media? To effectively provide an answer, a discussion on public perceptions, crime statistics and the impact of crime reporting in the media will commence. Following will be a conclusion that will state that the nature of crime in our society is not accurately presented in the media. There has been extensive research comparing the nature of crime in the media with the nature of crime in reality with most evaluations concluding that the media greatly distorts or misrepresents not only the nature of crime but also crime rates, typical victims and typical offenders (Hayes and Prenzler, 2015). Often, this research draws upon official crime statistics which have consistently shown that most crime is non violent and not rising (Davis Dossetor, 2010) which is oppositional to the media s portrayal (Garofalo, 1981). Even so, public perceptions continue to emanate a reflection of the media s influence as Davis Dossetor (2010) highlight through a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. The New President Faces Challenges At The Department Of... The Life of an Executive Order The new president faces significant challenges at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Rectifying these short comings is important if the U.S. is to remain secure and prosperous. On January 27th, 2017, president Trump signed an executive order dealing with immigration. The order took effect immediately and sparked anger and confusion across the nation. Dozens of international travelers were detained at airports across the country. Most of those detained were simply caught up in a government communication limbo. The order placed a temporary moratorium on immigration from seven countries Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen. The people who elected Donald Trump president say the furor ... The OLC, whose authority addresses the form and whether the order is properly drafted, approved the order. Yates objected to the president s executive order. Yates declared that as long as she was acting attorney general, the Department of Justice would not present arguments in defense of the executive order until she became convinced that it was appropriate to do so. Clearly, since Yates did not issue this statement on the grounds that the order was illegal, she based her decision on her disagreement with the justice of the order. Consequently, Yates was fired. This action fortified the legal battle we are debating today. Timeline of Trumps Order and the Court Filings Sunday, Jan. 29 Federal lawsuits were filed in New York, Massachusetts, Virginia and Washington on behalf of travelers who were detained in airports in the United States. • 44. Jacqueline Wilson Is The Most Important Moment In Life Life is nothing without ups and downs. They make it abundantly rich. While growing up in the United Kingdom and then moving to Canada, I encountered many problems that shaped me into the beautiful young woman I am today. With the help of my family, peers, and teachers, I was able to overcome troubling occurrences with ease. Even though all the events taught me something in a way, three of them in particular stood out to me. Meeting Jacqueline Wilson, the lossof my best friend, and the death of my grandfather were, and always will be, the most important moments in my life. Many people in my life come and go, but only a few can provide inspiration I need to become the best version of myself. One of these people happened to be Jacqueline Wilson, an English writer of children s literature. Although I have never met her in real life, I have met her in the sense that her books reveal so much of herself. Her books dealt with many controversial topics, such as adoption, divorce, and mental illnesses. These were topics I normally brushed aside, but she made me change my way of thinking. I used to think that I couldn t do anything to help people with problems like these. After reading her books, however, I realized that it doesn t matter how much or how little you contribute. She inspired me to help others with problems and mental illnesses and promoted that small inputs are still significant. She was the one made me believe that I can make a difference. • 45. Tesco s Success At Tesco Essay Tesco is one of the most famous stores in the UK with it being our biggest sales retailer earning billions in profits. The statistics of the supermarket are extremely impressive with over 330,000 staff employed, being the third largest supermarket, over 16 million Clubcard users in the UK and it being said that one pound in every seven has been spent at Tesco. All of this used to just be a small stall in East London when it was created by Jack Cohen in 1919 simply selling groceries making a profit of just ВЈ1 on the first day. Five years later, Cohen purchased a shipment of tea and Tesco became a brand with its first store opening another five years later, in 1929, in North London. Tesco is now not only just a grocery store, it also sells petrol (becoming the largest independent petrol retailer in the UK), insurance, has its own bank, credit cards, loans along with products such as its own clothing line F F, games consoles, televisions and sports equipment. However, in 2014 Tesco had a shocking downfall when it had been revealed that they had exaggerated their half year profit forecast by a massive ВЈ250 million. The downfall of Tesco has resulted in their chief executive, Philip Clarke stepping down and their UK chief executive Chris Bush, UK finance director Carl Rogberg, UK food commercial director John Scouler and food sourcing director Matt Simister all being suspended after an investigation into how it had happened.
