The Importance Of Volunteering To A Non-Profit Community
It is always a great time to volunteer, as it is a critical part of the United States Economy as well
as the economy around the world. It is not only a great contribution to society, but a great
contribution to what is relevant, it could be for a cause very close to you like volunteering at the
neighborhood watch or something that can change the lives of millions of people like volunteering
as a firefighter, nurse, natural/civil disaster areas worldwide, and the list could go on, but the idea
is always there, and that is, to volunteer for a greater cause.
I believe that Virtue Ethics is the primary reason people find it important to volunteer; from the
goodness of their hearts. That an internal feeling and drive push them to give their time, ... Show

This organization has helped more than 9,000 women with cancer and more than $1 Million in
donated toward cleanings in the United States and Canada. The reason I have chosen this non
profit foundation is that it is very close to my heart as I know the struggles that a person
undergoing cancer treatments may face. Any helping hand is a great contribution to their lives.
Another organization I have been able to volunteer a large amount of my time is at Habitat for
Humanity, who focuses on ending poverty by providing decent, safe and affordable housing. In this
charitable program I was able to serve the community by building houses on an active construction
site, which helped me gain leadership skills I could utilize later in real life situations. Home
construction is a great passion of mine and my career of choice. Another cause close to home is
the George W. Truitt Head Start Center Reading Program, in this program I was able to volunteer
as a mentor and story teller, helping and promoting kids in literacy from a young age. Lastly, I
volunteered at The Mustard Seed Project. They provide assistance for individuals and families
struggling to make ends meet. I contributed by volunteering at their main location in Fort Pierce,
doing activities such as working in the garden, stocking shelves in

Emily, Cody And Lucas Were The Ones At Home
When I enter the home the first thing I noticed was that only Emily, Cody and Lucas were the
ones at home. Benjamin, Logan and Drew were out with their therapist for the afternoon. Emily
and Cody we re upstairs playing but after about 5 minutes Ms. Orbach and I heard a door
slamming. We went upstairs to check on them. At some point Cody no longer wanted to play with
Emily and this made Emily very upset. Ms. Orbach told them to come downstairs and play and
they are not allowed to play upstairs by themselves.
Once they were downstairs in the living room Cody went to the dining table to color and Emily was
playing with her dolls on the floor. Lucas was moving between the two of them. Ms. Orbach and I
then began our conversation about the second parent mentor. I explained to her the reason for the
second parent mentor. They would be another set of eyes into the house , so we can get more
things done throughout the day. It would also be someone there to help supervise the six children.
Since they break off into different sections of the house. I explained it to her in a way that it is
about getting more help versus pushing her to do it all on her own.
She told to me, she is not the one, who said no to the second Parent Mentor, It was the Judge
during one of her court dates. Her husband s lawyer also made some comments to the Judge. He
did not think it was a good idea for her to have a second Mentor. After the judge heard what the
lawyers had to said the Judge agreed she

Character Analysis Of Ark Angel
Josh Kennelly
Mr. Mariano
English 9
13 November 2017
Ark Angel Book Report A complex character is a character that has a variety of traits and
different sides to their personality. In this story, the complex character I chose was Alex Rider.
This is because throughout the story, he does many intriguing, engaging, and critical actions. This
is what makes him my complex character. Over the course of the story, Alex learns how to deal
with and cope with people trying to kill him. Analytically and effectively, he interacts with the
characters in different ways as the story goes on when he learns the good and bad people.
The novel starts off with Alex Rider in a hospital recovering from an assassination attempt caused
by the terrorist organization Scorpia. He meets a teen his age named Paul Drevin son of Russian
multibillionare Nikolei Drevin and host of the Ark Angelproject and forms an alliance with him.
This action is complex because forming an alliance can be very difficult. Later, one night, a
group of four men arrive in the hospital in an attempt to kidnap Paul Drevin. Alex, in an attempt
to rescue Paul, pretends to be Paul himself and overpowers the four men, before eing knocked
out by a fifth man. This shows how complex he is. Alex is captured by the men and taken to an
abandoned apartment. The men reveal themselves to be Force Three, an eco terrorist group led
by a man named Kaspar. Alex proves that he is not Paul Drevin, but Force Three burns the tower
and leaves Alex to die anyway he escapes using a tightrope. Horowitz describes, I m not afraid of
Force Three, he blustered. I m not afraid of anyone (6). This quote shows how Rider is
intriguing. Apparently grateful for Paul being spared, Nikolei Drevin invites him to come and
stay in luxury with him for two weeks. When Alex arrives in Drevin s house, he befriends Paul,
but decides to leave him and Drevin when they arrive in New York. At the New York airport, Alex
is taken to the CIA, who tells him that Drevin is a banker for numerous criminal organizations. The
CIA recruits Alex to continue his vacation with Drevin to investigate him. When they arrive in
Flamingo Bay, Drevin s private island, Drevin discovers that Alex is

Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness Essay
Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness
Joseph Conrad s novel Heart of Darkness written in 1902 is an overwhelming chronicle of Marlow
s journey into the heart of the
African continent. It is one of the most influential novels of the twentieth century. In this ghastly
and horrific tale, Marlow leads an expedition up the Congo River, only to find everything is not as it
seems. This haunting and mysterious story takes him into the unbearable core of the jungle. The
novel also explores trade and exploration, imperialism and colonization.
The use of darkness means several things in this book. It is used in the title, as Heart of Darkness

Darkness and evil can happen to anyone in anyway, it happened to
Marlow and Kurtz mentally, and then it affects what you physically.
The meaning darkness does not mean the same for everyone, it is different in our minds to what
others think, we all have different opinions of what we think something is. For example, if you
look up the word darkness or dark in a dictionary you may find more than one meaning. First
meaning it gave dark, no light, dull cutoff from the rest of the world, gloomy, sad, sinister, evil
secret, night, not knowing. These are all words that could have been used in the book.
The jungle could be sinister and evil. I find that the word secret represents what goes on in the
jungle very well. It makes you think carefully about what might be in the jungle, the dangers and
cautions of the jungle. It also seems very mystical. It shows that maybe the jungle has something to
hide that it doesn t want you to know about, it wants to keep it to itself.
In the book, as Marlow travels up the Congo River, he himself begins to become sinister and
evil, he isn t his usual self. Ship me somewhere south of Europe, where the best can be the worst,
where there aren t no ten commandments, and a man can raise a thirst . This is a piece of poem,
by Rudyard Kimpling. This I relate to Marlow. He has been taken to Africa in Southern Europe,
and where there aren t any rules or laws. Anything could happen, and the evil comes out of

Diagnosis And Therapeutic Strategies Of Ebola Virus
From the first outbreak in DRC in 1976 to the recent epidemic in West Africa (2013 2015), there
has been a considerable amount of research done to further the development of the diagnosis and
therapeutic strategies of the Ebola virus. Methods for detecting the virus have improved drastically.
From the initial stage of simply identifying the virusas a whole, diagnosis can now define the
specific species of the virus. Diagnosis processes developed over the years are those that involve
Cell Culture, AntibodyDetection, Protein Antigen Detection, Conventional RT PCR, and Real Time
RT PCR, which is the current standard for EVD diagnosis. In terms of the therapeutic process,
there is still no cure or vaccine that has been approved or cleared for use on human patients with
EVD. The therapy hence largely depends on the immunity of the patient and general treatment of
symptoms as they occur.
INTRODUCTION
EBOV (Ebola virus) is an enveloped RNA virus belonging to the family Filoviridae; under the
electron microscope, it appears filamentous (Strong, et al. 2006). The genus Ebolavirus
comprises of five EBOVs; EBOV being identified as the causative agent of the recent outbreak
(Broadhurst, Brooks Pollock, 2016). Ebola virus disease is caused by three Ebolaviruses EBOV
included. In humans, the disease is clinically characterized by severe hemorrhagic fever with a
90% fatality rate. Since its first outbreak (largely in Zaire and Sudan) in the 1970s, two more

The Theory Of Knowledge, Evans And Smith
In presenting their theory of knowledge, Evans and Smith refer to the account of proper functioning
as put forth by Alvin Plantinga. This account is foundational in the development of their own
theory, specifically in regards to their conceptual dissection of what constitutes warrant. However,
Plantinga s account of proper functioning supposes a theistic element that generates a discomfort in
Evans and Smith, such that their own theory of knowledgetries for a secular, or naturalistic,
procedure of understanding proper functions; their desiderata are thus sustainable not by virtue of
the existence of a supernatural creator, but via the basic principles of natural selection. In taking
this stance, Evans and Smith discover themselves... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Previous accounts of warrant have mishandled proper function, but also: thought experiments in
which it is generally agreed that warrant has not been achieved can be explained, in some
manner, by cognitive malfunction. Proper function can be simply understood, in the general
sense, as how something ought to work, should it be working correctly. The bird s wing should
function in a manner that gives it the ability to fly, as should the heart function by pumping
blood. A broken wing that cannot be used to fly and a heart that does not pump blood are thus
both functioning improperly. Similarly, if we are to have warranted beliefs, we require our
cognitive equipment to be functioning in the proper manner. If we believe we see a red table in
front of us, in order to be warranted in that belief our eyes must be functioning properly, and all of
the parts of our brain concerned with the cognitive processing and realization of this fact must
themselves also be functioning properly. Now, it may be considered that someone is very much
justified in believing that there is a red table, but unbeknownst to themselves, the red table is the
mere product of a very strong and irresistible hallucination. In this case they would not have a
warranted belief, as their cognitive apparatus is behaving inappropriately; the processes

Viewpoints In The Things They Carried
Writing from different viewpoints allows the author, Tim O Brien, to express himself in a more
comfortable manner. Written in this viewpoint, the story is read as a tale instead of an
autobiography and the author becomes more distant with the story like he is looking into it rather
than writing it.
O Brien most likely wrote parts of the story in third person because it is traditional and benefits the
reader by allowing them to get to know multiple characters rather than just the narrator. The Things
They Carried and Speaking of Courage are two of the more personal chapters in the novel and by
writing them in third person, the reader may feel more involved in the story. They can also learn

It is expensive to store large amounts of data in data centers so these records are outsourced to
third parties. Few privacy issues may arise as personal health information could be disclosed to
those third parties and to unauthorized people. There are some health regulations such as HIPAA
but cloud providers are not incorporated entities with them so there is a chance of malicious
attackers targeting these cloud storage server. Encrypting PHR s before giving access to patients is
an effective way for this problem.
The objective of this paper is to bestow secure patient centric personal health record access and
efficient key management as well. Idea here is to introduce a new technology that includes the
encryption standards as well as water marking concept in order to protect the privacy of the patient
s health records. Firstly, attribute based encryption concept which provides data encryption by
generating private key to the user and gives the user to provide access to the person who they want
to share by generating public key during the decryption of their personal health record.
The scope of the system is that, Individual Health Records are deposited in the cloud by the PHR
owners. Users like Doctors, Life Insurance, family members, Personal friends who are registered
can access the PHR of the patient if they provide the decryption key at the time

Team effectiveness is the capacity a team needs to perform the goals directed by the organization. A
team is a gathering of people who are interdependent in their tasks, share responsibility regarding
results, and view themselves as a unit embedded in an institutional or organizational system which
operates within the established boundaries of that system. Teams have set up a synonymous
relationship within the limitations procedures and research relating to their effectiveness while as

There are a steps in solving conflicts within the workplace.

application process without configuring the solution in a format that would be too cumbersome
for the average store manager. With the help of Taleo, we ve been able to solve our paperwork
compliance problem without sacrificing functionality or a simple user interface. There are no more
excuses of lost paperwork and we can now quickly see which applicants are missing documents,
therefore reducing liability, says Mayer.
Passing Information Directly to Timekeeping System
With the help of Taleo, Domino s Pizza also eliminated the need for the manager to enter application
information into the point of sale system which is also used as the timekeeping system in the
stores. Taleo passes basic human resource information for each new employee directly to the
timekeeping system within two hours after hiring. Because this eliminates manual data entry and
typos, data integrity improved dramatically.
Increasing Sourcing and Talent Pipeline Visibility
Since implementing Taleo, Domino s Pizza has seen improvements in several areas within its
recruiting process. First it improved decision support. Using Taleo, managers can drill down into

A Rose For Emily Grierson Character Changes
In William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily many aspects of theme are discussed and the way he
portrays the themes are different. By using detailed character traits, Faulkner depicts people in
the short story A Rose for Emily. Faulkner is able to show that characters such as Emily Grierson
has been dominated by an abusive father and have no control over the ideas of time or death.
Emily is a character who is crippled with fear, lacking the courage to live because of the control
and dominance of her father. Emily is such a multifaceted character that she could bear extreme
segregation and scrutiny. This extreme segregation and neglect are directly traced to her father and
his complete dominance in her life and how his treatment left her with reasons of... Show more

Her appearance reflects the events of the story. Emily s physical appearance changes every time
someone leaves or dies in her life. Her bodies appearance is a physical sign of how even though
her father has passes his abusive attitude is still evident in her life. The title A Rose for Emily
gives the indication that Emily has an issue with time or being in denial about time s progression.
Faulkner writes that the men in attendance to Emily s funeral have confused time with
mathematical progression. He uses a metaphor that time is usually seen as a diminishing road but
it is rather a huge meadow which nothing can touch. The characters that attend Emily s funeral
give a major aspect of what theme Faulkner is depicting. The denial of time or time s progression
is linked to her father crippling Emily through abuse making her unable to be independent, forcing
her to live her life under the utter influence and control of himself. Emily s issue with time is
directly connected to her other problem of accepting death. This issue in Emily s life is also a stem
from her fathers devastating abuse. Emily, solely dependent upon her father because of the
mistreatment, abuse, and absolute

Its importance role of providing a platform for unions to negotiate and bargain with their respective
airlines has minimized or prevented the extent of the damages strikes have on the airline industry.
Strikes, such as the one by ALPA, have been proven to be disastrous with regard to public interest.
RLA s role cannot be taken lightly as an absence of such an act would be extremely detrimental to
the airline industry and ultimately, United States commerce.
Although the RLA has proven to be effective, it is not without its shortcomings. Its loopholes and
limitation can and will be exploited as proven in the case of FedEx. Hence, it has to constantly be
reviewed and amendments by the Federal Government and Congress have to be made to the act if it
were to stay relevant with the ever changing times. Workers should be making the rights on whether

Examples Of Post Colonialism In Things Fall Apart
The novel Things Fall apart is a post colonial novel written by Nigerian novelist Chinua Achebe in
1958, before Nigerian sovereignty. The novel portrays the life of Okonkwo, an Ibo head and local
wrestle champion in Nigerian village of Umuofia. The novel is divided into three parts, the first
parts talks about his family and personal history, the customs and society of the Ibo, and the second
and third sections introduce the influence of British colonialismand Christian missionaries on the
Ibo community during the late 1800s. Achebe provides the examples of post colonialism through
the symbolic representations of the colonizers, the introduction of their new religion, the creation of

Global Climate Change By Jonathan Barnett And Larry Beasley
Global climate change is once again at the forefront of academic and political discussion. Recent
coastal flooding in the Northeastern United States, series of wildfire along the west coast, inland
flooding along the Mississippi corridor, and severe drought faced by California cities have instilled
a new sense of urgency to fight the effects of climate change. And once again Fordist planning
practices of neoliberal cities all over the world, along with their artifacts inherited from the
industrial era are under the crosshair. Resource hungry cities designed for the automobile,
extensive network of highways, hollowed out centers, and patterns of low density
suburbanization are some of the treasures of the past century that we are no longer proud of. Is it
possible to reverse the adverse effects of unsustainable planning practices of the past and put our
cities on a path to an ecologically balanced future? This volume by Jonathan Barnett and Larry
Beasley lays out the technological innovations of the twenty first century, and lessons from
successful implementation of environmentally sensitive designs by cities from all over the world
to carve a path that will possibly lead us to a future of truly eco friendly cities.
The book is divided into six chapters. In their introductory chapter, the authors frame their reasoning
around the reality of climate change and how urbanized areas are responsible for it. They posit that
the forces pushing for sustainable growth model for cities

Theme Of Justice In Joe s Family
In THE STORY, Joe s family faces a number of obstacles trying to ensure justice is carried out for
the assault on Joe s mother. Legal disputes over the land, issues with jurisdiction and Geraldine s
reluctance to speak initially all hinder their efforts to seek legal punishment for Linden Lark and his
actions. Joe himself has another obstacle in particular that prevents him personally from pursuing
justice; his age. In the latter half of the novel, the conflict between legal justice and the justice of
traditional Ojibwe culture is contrasted. Joe s age, along with the jurisdiction issues and other
obstacles, is one more factor that prevents him and his familyfrom obtaining legal justice; thus Joe
is forced to rely on more traditional methods of his tribe for exacting it on behalf of his mother.

Gender And Dress Code In Public School
Madison Dixon

Gender and Dress Code High school dress codes are rules for clothing that is deemed either
appropriate or inappropriate to wear to school. Standard codes in public schools, that don t have
uniforms, typically require students to have sleeved garments and leg wear that is a certain length.
At some schools, the term leg wear doesn t include leggings, while other schools permit leggings as
long as your shirt or other clothing reaches the length that shorts are required to meet. After
attending five public schools, three of which during my high school career, I can verify that these
were typically the enforced rules. All schools also had rules against hats and certain headgear,
though exceptions would sometimes be made, such as in the case of spirit week. My most
recent school has, for the most part, been very relaxed about dress codes. Most of the rules are
simply to maintain a piece of decency among the students. The code basically calls for
undergarments to remain concealed, provocative skin can t be shown, shirts must have sleeves,
and leg wear must be longer than your fingertips with your hands at your sides. However, there
are some inconsistencies with dress codes that I have noticed and can t seem to understand.
There seems to be lenience for boys when it comes to the enforcement of dress codes. Of course,
boys don t have a tendency to wear track shorts or tank tops to school. However, I ve been coded for

`` The Yellow Wallpaper `` And The Court Cases Like Ellen...
From short stories like The Yellow Wallpaper, to the court cases like Ellen Pao s Suit vs. Kleiner
Perkins, and even a data book like Women in the Labor Force, it is clear to see that inequality
and mistreatment of women still exists today. People often say that inequality is a thing of the
past, however it has been a serious problem since the dawning of civilization itself, and it is still
so today. Women are often seen as lesser beings than men, and are treated accordingly. It is
getting better, and women are starting to take their rightful places as equals in the workforce, and
as equals in general. However, the world still has a long way to go before the inequality and
mistreatment of women comes to a complete stop. In The Yellow Wallpaper
, the authors explores
the world through the eyes of the narrator. The narrator is a womanwho has been taken away to live
in the countryside for the summer due to temporary nervous depression (Gilman). This diagnosis
was done by her husband, a physician, who treats her more like a possession than a spouse.
Though he has diagnosed her with this, he is seen saying that she is not really sick at all. He
gives her incorrect medicines, not believing her when she says something is wrong. Throughout
the story, it is shown that she is not ever taken seriously, her husband even going so far as to say
that she shall be sick as she pleases (Gilman) this implying that she is making up her illness for
attention, and that it is all

Female Representation Of Women During Star Wars
A very short time ago, in a world very well known, the famous Star Wars movies were brought to
creation. George Lucas originally exposed the original Star Wars in 1977, and it has continued to
up to present day. The ideas Lucas created through these movies helped evolve other films. One of
the things that the prior Star Warsdidn t evolve though was female representation in movies. The
representation of women in past Star Wars films compared to the most recent Star Wars film has
substantially evolved in the characterization of females. Through watching all Star Wars films, I
can personally say that there was a dramatic change in how females were perceived in past Star
Wars films compared to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a female character was portrayed as one of the stormtroopers
captains. Captain Phasma, however, was not portrayed like most female characters in past
films. Instead of being depicted as a sexual and dependent character, her script and costume
conveyed otherwise. Captain Phasma wore an outfit similar to an average stormtrooper of any
gender that did not sexualize her character. As well as this, the script used for her character
showed little correlation to the stereotypical female presentation in prior films. It consisted of
her characters script corresponding to how a stormtrooper captain would behave. She was not
there to please the audience, or act sexy, but instead to play a part in the movie. Another
representation of this is the female character, Rey. This character was given the opportunity to
develop into who she was, not for the purpose of a man. Rey is one of the most prominent
characters in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Her character spends no time developing for a man
but instead trying to do what is right. Her characters attire, similar to Captain Phasma, is not based
to please the audience, but instead based on the particular situation she was in. As well as these

A Tale Of Two Cities Essay
Capitol Punishment: Toy of Evil Men
One might believe that because capital punishment plays such a large role in Charles Dickens A
Tale Of Two Cities, that Dickens himself is a supporter of it. This just simply is not true. Dickens
uses capitol punishment as a tool to define the evil embodied in both the French ruling class, and
the opposing lower class during the French Revolution; as well as comment on the sheep like nature
of humankind.
In the beginning of the novel, capital punishment serves as the quot;cure all quot; for France s
social problems. After all, quot;death is nature s remedy for all things, and why not legislation s?
quot; (62). It is this attitude that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
quot; They are murdering the prisoners, quot; says Mr. Lorry to Darnay after arriving in France
(260). Again Dickens uses capitol punishment as a way to show the reader the atrocities that
humanity can create when consumed with hatred and evil. Dickens can be seen approaching the
subject of the guillotine with cynical sarcasm when he writes, quot;it was the popular theme for
jests; it was the best cure for headache, it infallibly prevented the hair from turning gray...who
kissed La Guillotine looked through the little window and sneezed into the sack quot; (271). Just as
with the Aristocrats, Dickens does not condone the Jacques use of capital punishment. His disdain
is apparent in his tone; which gnaws away at any inkling the reader may have that the treatment of
the prisoners is fair.
Capital punishment is also used as a social commentary by showing how people cling to the
popular attitudes and beliefs of the day. People are quick to adopt the guillotine as their new savior.
Dickens articulates the common attitude towards this when he writes, quot;[the guillotine] was the
sign of the regeneration of the human race. It superseded the cross quot; (271). These
quot;followers of the guillotine quot; are ruthless in their quest for blood as they shout quot;Take
off his head...an enemy to the republic! quot; (280). By showing the ridiculous manner in which the
people of France behave, Dickens teaches us a lesson about

The Problem Of Real Estate
Those who have never bought, sold or otherwise transferred title to a property in Australia will
need to learn a thing or two about the subject of conveyancing. Generally speaking, this is the legal
transfer of title to property from one person to another. There are some kits on the market that
enable buyers to complete the process involved in transferring ownershipof property, but this is not
generally recommended as differences in state laws, and the complexity of the process itself,
can cause potential problems. Real Estate is typically the most valuable asset that any of us will
ever own, and its legal title transfer must be handled carefully to ensure the protection of all
parties and full compliance with the law. It is, therefore, important to know what conveyancing
is and what is involved in the process, as well as what a conveyancer does in this process and
how both buyers and sellers can benefit from their services. When seeking any professional for
their services, it is critical to find someone who is qualified. This is especially important for a
transaction as major as those involving real estate. You ll want to have a good idea of how much it
costs to employ their services and whether one should use a conveyancer or a solicitor when
engaging in various property transfers. This subject may seem new and daunting to someone who
has not gone through it, but the right professional can navigate you through it to a settlement that is
amicable for both parties.

We moved from an agrarian base to an industrial one. By the mid 50s the majority of jobs were
found in factories. Manufacturing suffered heavy blows during the late 60 s and early seventies
and was displaced by the service industry. With the closing of the 20th century those services have
become increasingly technological.
Surviving those changes requires adaptation, not only in the retooling of physical plants and the
retraining workers, but also in the way we manage those workers. Some feel that there appears to
be an underlying theme in books and papers on the subject of HRM, that there is only one correct
way to manage people. (2) Maslow on Management offers a much different approach, demonstrating
conclusively that one size does not fit all; i.e., that different people need to be managed differently.
HMR models operating on the assumption that there is a single right way to manage people are
using workplace criteria that are quickly becoming a thing of the past. The one way model views
people working for an organization as employees who work full time and are solely dependent on
that organization for their livelihood and their careers. These employees generally were viewed as
subordinates with limited or very narrow skill sets. (3)
These images of the worker may have been valid several decades ago. However, today every one of

A Brief Note On The Income Measurement And Revenue...
Income Measurement/Revenue Recognition A.IAS 18 Relationship A customer walks into her
local Wal Mart Supercenter to purchase a few necessities and Christmas gifts. Once the
customer has found everything on her list, she goes to the nearest register to pay for her items.
Her groceries totaled $102.50, her pet food cost $21.60, the videogame she picked out for her

though the customer s total sale is $279.10, Wal Mart cannot recognize any of the revenue

regulation that mandates how companies are to determine whether or not a transaction
constitutes the recognition of revenue. Revenue regularly comes from the sale of goods or
prepayment for services to be rendered, however, it can only be recognized if there is an
economic benefit on behalf of the seller and the reliability of the revenue is provable. Wal Mart is
in the business to sell goods to customers, so they can only recognize revenues from completed

Network Security And Its Effects On The Network
Abstract
In today s IT world, network security is starting to get more attention. In the past, companies
network infrastructures were capable of managing low amounts of attacks on the network. This is
not the case today. The number of online attacks is getting bigger and bigger. Today children from
age 6 are capable of breaking into someone s network system. For attackers, it does not matter
whether it is a large or small business or an individual computer. If they find a glitch in the network,
they will attack the system. Also, not too many people are conscious about how network security is
important in today s business. This paper will discuss network security, categorize type of hackers,

Confidentiality is set of rules that involve the protection of data from unauthorized entities.
Integrity has a role to make sure the modification of data is controlled in a specified and authorized
manner.
Availability ensures that data are accessible whenever needed by the company (Palo Alto Networks,

Even though the use of the CIA triad to describe security purposes is well recognized, some in the
security area are considered to be necessary to present a complete picture of additional concepts.
The following two concepts are the most common (Stallings Case, 2012):
Authenticity The property is original and can be identified and trusted by the business. This means
that users are checked and validated before each input reaches the system which indicated that it
came from a trusted source (Stallings Case, 2012).
Accountability has the security goal to make sure that the activities of entity could be uniquely
traced to that entity. Organizations must be capable to trace a security breach to an accountable
party (Stallings Case, 2012).

The Importance Of Word Superiority On Word Recognition
The purpose of this essay is to evaluate the effects of word frequency and superiority on word
recognition when considering three models of lexical access with these being the logogen,
frequency ordered bin search (FOBS) and TRACE models. Included in this analysis empirical
proof from research studies will be considered. It is vital to understand the relevance of the word
frequency and superiority effects before contemplating their role in the models of lexical access.
Word frequency is often associated with Balota and Chumbley (1984) as their research,
comprising of three experiments using 20 participants, demonstrates that the time taken to respond
to a high frequency, commonly occurring words was shorter than that of a low frequency when
recognising words. Contrasting this, Mosell, Doyle and Haggard (1989) observed this effect on a
lexical decision and then a semantic categorisation task. Their findings demonstrate that word
frequency and response time are equally related in all tasks involving word identification. Balota
and Chumbley (1990) responded to the criticism as they remain confident in their own findings
supporting the view that word frequency demonstrates that words we encounter on a daily basis
require a shorter response time. The purpose of the word superiority effect is explored in Reicher s
(1969) study which used 9 female students. After being extensively tested via forced choice letter
recognition on ability to recognise varying stimuli (4 letter words

diabetes can be a petulant, jealous companion; if you ignore your care, even for a little while, it
will make you pay with uncomfortable and potentially dangerous hyperglycemia or
hypoglycemia. And if you don t pay attention to the myriad details of care over a long period of
time, the penalty can be much more severe with loss of vision, kidney failure, foot ulcers,
amputations and heart disease. On the bright side, during the past two decades, clinical trials have
shown us that persons with diabetes can live long, productive, and complication free lives. Studies
in diabetes have demonstrated how to achieve near normal blood glucose levels. In addition, we
have developed effective interventions to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels in people
with diabetes. The consequence of such tight glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol control is
improved long term health. Blood sugar levels maintained in the near normal range over

The Story Of An Hour By Kate Chopin
In The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin, a woman receives the news about her husband s death.
The protagonist is Louise Mallard, she is at home with her sister. It seems that Mrs. Mallard is
never alone because of her heart trouble . Close relatives always try to take care and keep her
safe and healthy. People know about her health condition, but no one knows what is happening in
her mind and spirit, and no one knows that her heart trouble is not only physical but also
emotional. Louise has the opportunity, for the first time in her life, of living with freedom
because now the man who rules her life is gone. Louise Mallard is born again, and she starts a
short but glorious moment that gives her a true life sense and liberty, but then it is ended with the
presence of her husband who comes back to kill the new Louise.
Louise s first reaction after hearing the news is the key to understand her personality, and how she
is letting her emotions come out to give life to the new woman. Mrs. Mallard is very emotional
because she suddenly starts to cry, but she is not afraid as many women might be facing this
situation. According to Kate Chopin, When the storm of grief had spent itself she went away to
her room alone. She would have no one follow her . Louise needs space and privacy to assimilate
what is happening. She does not want anybody follow her because it is the special moment that
she was waiting for. She was not waiting for her husband s death but her freedom, so it was

Why Is Hannibal Lecter Considered A Villain
In every great novel or film there is an antagonist, and in some cases what people would consider
a villain. Every villain has different motives for what they do and different character traits. The
one thing in common with most villains is being an opposing force to a hero. In many cases, the
best villains are the most complex. One example of a complex villain from both a series of films
and novels is the characterHannibal Lecter. In the books you can see that Hannibal Lecter is a
villain with many positive traits that are perceived negative because of the way he uses them.
Some people may even say that towards the end of the series, Hannibal is more of an anti hero than
villain. Hannibal Lecter is the main character of the novels by Thomas... Show more content on

Hannibal is an extremely intelligent character. It s mentioned in the books and throughout the
films/TV series that Hannibal could go through tests that show intelligence scores with no
struggle at all and scored perfectly. Hannibal uses his intelligence to get himself out of situations
where he would be arrested, and uses his intelligence to manipulate people. In The Red Dragon,
the author states this, Lecter is so lucid, so perceptive; he s trained in psychiatry... and he s a
mass murderer. Despite being to intelligent and perceptive, having degrees in thing he is a mass
murderer. Hannibal is a cannibalistic serial killer, and how he manages it is because of his
intelligence. Hannibal s level of intelligence makes him interesting, but makes his own character
disinterested in others. Hannibal has used his intelligence to escape from prison, manipulate
people in authority, and lead a life of cannibalism behind closed doors for years with no one
noticing. He managed to live his life as a psychiatrist while secretly killing people and feeding
them to his associates for a good amount of time before being apprehended by Will Graham.
Hannibal is capable of reading people very easily, pin pointing their weaknesses and anything
important to know about them within one short glance. Overall, Hannibal is one of the most
intelligent villain characters there

The, Social, And The World Of The Plaz Material Culture ...
In the vast field of anthropology, there are many ways to investigate a particular society. The three
readings; Being in the Market versus Being in the Plaza: Material Culture and the Construction of
Social Reality in Spanish America, Excluded Spaces: The Figure in the Australian Aboriginal
Landscape, and Indexical Speech across Samoan Communities all approach this topic differently.
The first uses physical anthropologyto examine the landscape, the second uses anthropological taboo
to examine how this impacts the culture, and finally the third uses linguistic anthropology to
analyze the home life of a tribe. Although all different in nature, each form plays a key role in
understanding the world from the view of an anthropologist. As such this paper will examine the
similarities and differences of each work. So that they can be compared to one another, to form a
concrete view of the material, which enables the reader to fully understand how each work relates
to one another.
While in Spanish America Miles Richardson examines the difference between the busy street
markets and the indoor plaza. Noticing that the two seem to mirror opposites in nature, he
concludes that the reason for this is due to material culture (Low Lawrence zuniga, 1988). Upon
this conclusion, Richardson continues into detail comparing the two places of business. However
before this comparison can be made, the concept of material culture must be explained first. As put
by Richardson Material culture...

Criticism In Dorian Shelley s The Player And Dorian Gray
Monika and Lord Henry are the opposite of The Player and Dorian Gray, driving the plot to fit their
intention of changing the protagonist to fit some ideology. Their archetype is the Puppet Master,
exerting control by manipulating others. Without Monika s epiphany (Team Salvato) in realizing
that she is just a side character, but wanting more, or Lord Henry fascination of Dorian Gray s
aura of innocence, the plot of the stories would be quite dull and would not have been notable
pieces of rhetoric. When sharing poems in the day part of Doki Doki Literature Club, Monika
states that her writing has changed, telling The Player You can say I kind of had a sort of
epiphany lately. She later adds a file into the game files that say I did not do anything
dangerous... All I did was untie the knot (Team Salvato). Monika has a mentality that the other
character s actions are their own, and that she is not at fault for the events resulting of her
influence. This mentality directly correlates with Lord Henry s idea of Dorian s change in
expression after he shared his intense views of vanity and life. Lord Henry observes He [Lord
Henry] was amazed at the sudden impression that his words had produced... He had merely shot
an arrow into the air. Had it hit the mark? How fascinating the lad was! (Wilde, 22). Though Oscar
Wildequickly hints that there is something deeper to his novel by writing the reader as omnipotent,
Team Salvato preferred to make the reader a character. The team subtlety hints that there is
something strange occurring in the game, saving their big reveal that Monika is the Puppet Master
until the Good Ending. This difference shows another aspect of how archetypes have withstood
time, the ability to adapt to what the author needs out of the archetype. Oscar Wilde wanted his
audience to know who was the Puppet Master from the start of the novel to set his novel apart from
other Victorian era novels; on the other hand, Team Salvato used the Puppet Master archetype to
first seem like a standard dating simulator until the ending, shocking The Player more than if they
revealed Monika s intentions in the beginning of the game. The archetype stays true to role they
play as manipulation of other

Essay on Should the 22nd Admendment be Repealed
In the political world today there are so many different opinions about several different topics. The
topics that I will address to you will be, should the 22nd Amendment be repealed and also should
the foreign born be allowed to run for president. In both topics you may have your pros and cons,
but I am strongly against the both of them because I feel that the Constitution should not be taken
advantage of. Government shouldnot be allowed to manipulate the Constitution to suit his or her
needs. While making adjustments to the Constitution to allow different things to take place for
conveniencedoesn t leave any form respect of the Constitution. There should be a line drawn to

American people are use to being able to vote for a new president especially if the one that is in
office is not doing a good job for the people. I like the way it is because when we limit it to only
two terms it helps bring in qualified people with new views and that may have a different
outlook on how things are being handled in the White House. Conflict will arise either way you
choose to go and personally I think that if it isn t broke why try to fix it. We as voters enjoy
exercising our right to vote, but I strongly feel that the government has the right to put who it wants
in office no matter what. So, presidents having limits on how long they can run is our savior
because sometimes you can vote and vote and your voice remain unheard.
In addition to the 22nd amendment being repealed, there have been several talks about also
allowing foreign born to run for president. According to the USA Today, polls aren t showing
favor for putting someone born in a foreign country in the top position as the President of the
United States (Kasindorf, Martin, 2004) Also, according to the polls taken on USA Today 31%
were for such an amendment, and 67% were against it (Kasindorf, Martin). It is said that while

A Crumby Story of Goldilocks and The Three Bears
Oh boy, you ll never guess what kind of story that goddam sonuvabitch Stradlater told me. It has
to be the phoniest story I ve ever heard, and I m actually not lying this time. Anyways, you re not
going to believe me so I don t even know why I m telling ya, but here it is, the same goddam
thing that Stradlater told me. I suppose I should start at the beginning of the story, it only makes
sense. Anyways, he started the story by telling me about some phony girl named Goldilocks or
something and these three very sore bears who lived in a small house in the middle of the forest.
I hate when I hear about others who are poorer than me. It bothers me when others don t have the
same advantages as me. It depresses the hell out of me, it really does. Anyways, you wouldn t
think anybody would be living way the hell out in the goddam forest, but here they were. Honestly
who still believes in this fairy tale crap anymore. Allie, my younger brother you know the one I
told you about. He used to love hearing fairy tales and stories, he really did. Me, not so much
especially the crumby ones. It bothers me when parents tell their kids these stories with phony
characters and phony plots, if you want to know the truth. The characters are always so goddam
crumby, they re worst than the actors in movies. They never act like real people, but I guess that s
why they re called fairy tales.
Anyways, the

Education Week Analysis
Go back to your senior year of high school and remember how chaotic it was; it was a constant
buzz of scrambling together transcripts and receiving acceptance letters or maybe even
rejection letters. Then comes the part where you have to make a decision about where to go and

your favorite spot to read at home to your parents favorite place to eat, that you were always
dragged to but you secretly loved. Finally, it s all done and it s time to sit back and Start College.

One of the bigger arguments against a gap year is not going back. Parent of the students fair that
a year away from school can make them go completely against college. Being away from school
may lessen stress for students and they definitely don t want to go back to such a stressed and
structured lifestyle. Also if that person is working during their gap year and making money the
idea of going to college and putting yourself into crippling debt isn t very appealing, therefore
steering them away from returning back to school. Another issue is students will see a gap year
as literal time off and won t do anything constructive with their time. Wasting a whole year on just
sitting around, eating junk food and watching Netflix is very counterproductive. It will put you
behind of your peers. Additionally gap years can add on expensive, particularly if you traveled.
Putting more financial debt on yourself can cause greats amount of stress and make it much more
difficult to dig yourself out of (Knoll, 2012). Another issue that can arise is how much further
behind you are on graduating can put you behind overall in your career goals in life. Particularly if
you are interested in pursuing a career in math, science, or language. Jobs in these fields are fast
paced and take a lot of maintaining, so not practicing them or studying them a year can hurt your
previous skills on them, making you forget many things. Instead what is

Analysis Of To A Louse By Robert Burns
Itchy, tiny, and crawly are words that people use to describe a louse, but Robert Burns s poem
To a Louse tells a different story. Although this poem has a rough exterior, the story should not
be overlooked just because of the different writing style. The poem begins by telling the story of
a little louse peeking out of a sophisticated woman s bonnet. The third person feels that this low
life louse does not belong with a classy lady, but he should be among the beggars. Then, the poem
ends pointing out that the woman is being acknowledged by the bug on her bonnet and not by her
looks. The poem ends with a message in the last stanza saying To see oursels as ithers see us!
(Burns). Understanding the summary of the poem, the story can be further explored by looking at
the background and literary devices. In evaluating this poem, one can gain an insight on the
historical context, irony, and how this literary device affects the audience s thoughts. Robert Burns
uses this poem to give the reader an awareness of his life as a poor Scott at the time. This unique
style of language was thought to be a result of Burns s upbringing. Around the time the poem was
written, 1784 to 1786 Robert Burns struggled economically with his fam and used poetryas a
distraction (Shairp). David Sampson in The Modern Language Review writes Initially his low
birth and, in particular, his lack of a liberal education were regarded as disadvantages for which
allowance had to be made in criticism (24). Robert Burns was someone with a low social classthat
many believed was why he writes in this style, but rather than being a disadvantage, people saw
this as a way for Burns to be original and not influenced by poets prior to him (Sampson 25). This
childhood could be a reason of why he points out the woman in gauze and lace to be vain. An
article in the Scottish Literary Review writes She also conveys a strong impression of Burns s
own thoughts about this process of poetic development, seeing in him an extraordinary instance of
class anger, class denial and class bargaining on a grand scale (Andrews). The she in this quote
refers to Carol McGuirk who worked on multiple Burns studies. His pattern for intense feelings
about classes

Analysis Of Vertigo
In 1958 Alfred Hitchcock released what is considered the greatest film of all time, Vertigo.
Vertigo is a film noir thriller that stars James Stewart and Kim Novak. Stewart s character,
Scottie Ferguson, is sent to follow and investigate his old friend s wife, Madeline. He spies on
her strange actions and at the time falls deeply in love with her. The viewer is given a restricted
narrative through the eyes of former detective, who suffers from vertigo, as he follows Madeline
through San Francisco. The audience views the film from the same perspective as Scottie.
Hitchcock pompously puts the viewer into Scottie s eyes in scenes where he is following Madeline
give Scottie a voyeuristic sense. The narrative is later switched to unrestricted as... Show more

The viewer is introduced to the dolly zoom in the first scene when they look through Scottie s
eyes as he hangs from the gutter and looks down to the pavement below. The dolly scene gives
the sense of vertigo. In this scene it makes the ground seem so much farther below than what it
is. Hitchcock uses this shot throughout the film to give a feeling of false reality. The shot
works by moving the camera back on a track while zooming in at the same time. This shot is also
known as the vertigo shot. In the bell tower, this shot clearly puts the viewer into what Scottie is
feeling at the time. It makes the viewer seem uneasy like they might suffer from Vertigo. In
addition to this, Hitchcock perfectly uses the camera angle and the actors to tell a separate
story. In the scene where he meets with his old friend, Gavin Elster, Hitchcock basically
choreographed the actor s movement and camera angles to set a mood and give foreshadowing.
In this scene, Elster is sitting down while Scottie is standing in front of him asking the questions
showing dominance. Once Scottie sits down, Elster stands up and stands on the steps to the
second level, giving this sense of him being higher than Scottie. The camera follows Elster but
then once Elster confesses why he wants Scottie to follow him, the camera pans in tight to his
face. At this point Elster blocking is extreme in this shot. After his confession, the two men stay
in the same position as the camera angle retreats on a dolly bringing both men into frame. This
example shines light onto Hitchcock s use of blocking and camera use that is evident throughout
the film. Another major use of the camera is the way it used to show Scottie s point of view. The
narrative is restricted so that means the viewer can only see what the protagonist is seeing at that
time. This is clear in the scene where Scottie is following Madeline as she

Analysis Of How Soon Is Now By John Morrissey
The Smiths are widely considered a band with lyrics constantly bordering on poetry, and
Morrissey s song writing ability was and still is unparalleled. Songs like their 1985 hit how soon
is now? broke through this barrier, with lyrics based on and taken from famous literature such as
George Elliot s Middemarch, and the end product being one of the most lyrically complex and
emotive songs ever composed, improved only by the solemn strumming of the band behind the
lyrical genius of Morrissey.
How Soon Is Now, is the Smiths greatest song, in the minds of many, and is about a painfully shy
man s search for love. Morrissey uses words in the lyrics that most writers would never even think
of, or be able to use to good effect if they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The song also has verses detailing the contemporary Manchester LGBT community. Morrissey is
perhaps one of the most infamous Queers of history, due to his famed skirting of his bisexuality, but
clearly voices his opinions during the song. This is detailed during the interlude:
There s a club if you d like to go you could meet somebody who really loves you so you go, and
you stand on your own and you leave on your own and you go home, and you cry and you want to
die
Music journalist Jon Savage commented that the song s lyrics were evocative of contemporary
Manchester gay club culture:
The whole idea of meeting somebody who really loves you is regarded as a benefit of going out,
and the author embarks in this desperate action in the hopes of finally finding love.
The profoundness of this comment is only recognizable when one considers the struggle to find
somebody to love them in a world where their attraction to somebody of the same sex was not only
questioned but attacked, and the sense of isolation felt by people such as Morrissey, after spending
their nights searching for romantic connection, but frequently ending at home

Key Characteristics Of A Vernacular Region
A vernacular region is an area that people think is part of their cultural identity. This is because the
south has its own culture and characteristics that differentiate it from other vernacular regions
throughout the U.S.A. The south ends beneath a straight line formed by Daytona Beach and
Crystal River. This is characterized by three key characteristics: culture, immigration, and economy.
The south s culture, characterized by the confederate flag and food, are very prominent in the north
portions, but not so much in the south. The confederate flag can be seen very often in the north,
whether it be on the back of cars, on flag poles, or next the American flags on houses. However, this
admiration for the Confederate States of America are not exemplified as much in the south due to
the higher Latino population, which are usually immigrants from nearby countries, not whites who
descended from southerners in the 1800 s. Restaurants... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. The Importance Of Volunteering To A Non-Profit Community It is always a great time to volunteer, as it is a critical part of the United States Economy as well as the economy around the world. It is not only a great contribution to society, but a great contribution to what is relevant, it could be for a cause very close to you like volunteering at the neighborhood watch or something that can change the lives of millions of people like volunteering as a firefighter, nurse, natural/civil disaster areas worldwide, and the list could go on, but the idea is always there, and that is, to volunteer for a greater cause. I believe that Virtue Ethics is the primary reason people find it important to volunteer; from the goodness of their hearts. That an internal feeling and drive push them to give their time, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This organization has helped more than 9,000 women with cancer and more than $1 Million in donated toward cleanings in the United States and Canada. The reason I have chosen this non profit foundation is that it is very close to my heart as I know the struggles that a person undergoing cancer treatments may face. Any helping hand is a great contribution to their lives. Another organization I have been able to volunteer a large amount of my time is at Habitat for Humanity, who focuses on ending poverty by providing decent, safe and affordable housing. In this charitable program I was able to serve the community by building houses on an active construction site, which helped me gain leadership skills I could utilize later in real life situations. Home construction is a great passion of mine and my career of choice. Another cause close to home is the George W. Truitt Head Start Center Reading Program, in this program I was able to volunteer as a mentor and story teller, helping and promoting kids in literacy from a young age. Lastly, I volunteered at The Mustard Seed Project. They provide assistance for individuals and families struggling to make ends meet. I contributed by volunteering at their main location in Fort Pierce, doing activities such as working in the garden, stocking shelves in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Emily, Cody And Lucas Were The Ones At Home When I enter the home the first thing I noticed was that only Emily, Cody and Lucas were the ones at home. Benjamin, Logan and Drew were out with their therapist for the afternoon. Emily and Cody we re upstairs playing but after about 5 minutes Ms. Orbach and I heard a door slamming. We went upstairs to check on them. At some point Cody no longer wanted to play with Emily and this made Emily very upset. Ms. Orbach told them to come downstairs and play and they are not allowed to play upstairs by themselves. Once they were downstairs in the living room Cody went to the dining table to color and Emily was playing with her dolls on the floor. Lucas was moving between the two of them. Ms. Orbach and I then began our conversation about the second parent mentor. I explained to her the reason for the second parent mentor. They would be another set of eyes into the house , so we can get more things done throughout the day. It would also be someone there to help supervise the six children. Since they break off into different sections of the house. I explained it to her in a way that it is about getting more help versus pushing her to do it all on her own. She told to me, she is not the one, who said no to the second Parent Mentor, It was the Judge during one of her court dates. Her husband s lawyer also made some comments to the Judge. He did not think it was a good idea for her to have a second Mentor. After the judge heard what the lawyers had to said the Judge agreed she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Character Analysis Of Ark Angel Josh Kennelly Mr. Mariano English 9 13 November 2017 Ark Angel Book Report A complex character is a character that has a variety of traits and different sides to their personality. In this story, the complex character I chose was Alex Rider. This is because throughout the story, he does many intriguing, engaging, and critical actions. This is what makes him my complex character. Over the course of the story, Alex learns how to deal with and cope with people trying to kill him. Analytically and effectively, he interacts with the characters in different ways as the story goes on when he learns the good and bad people. The novel starts off with Alex Rider in a hospital recovering from an assassination attempt caused by the terrorist organization Scorpia. He meets a teen his age named Paul Drevin son of Russian multibillionare Nikolei Drevin and host of the Ark Angelproject and forms an alliance with him. This action is complex because forming an alliance can be very difficult. Later, one night, a group of four men arrive in the hospital in an attempt to kidnap Paul Drevin. Alex, in an attempt to rescue Paul, pretends to be Paul himself and overpowers the four men, before eing knocked out by a fifth man. This shows how complex he is. Alex is captured by the men and taken to an abandoned apartment. The men reveal themselves to be Force Three, an eco terrorist group led by a man named Kaspar. Alex proves that he is not Paul Drevin, but Force Three burns the tower and leaves Alex to die anyway he escapes using a tightrope. Horowitz describes, I m not afraid of Force Three, he blustered. I m not afraid of anyone (6). This quote shows how Rider is intriguing. Apparently grateful for Paul being spared, Nikolei Drevin invites him to come and stay in luxury with him for two weeks. When Alex arrives in Drevin s house, he befriends Paul, but decides to leave him and Drevin when they arrive in New York. At the New York airport, Alex is taken to the CIA, who tells him that Drevin is a banker for numerous criminal organizations. The CIA recruits Alex to continue his vacation with Drevin to investigate him. When they arrive in Flamingo Bay, Drevin s private island, Drevin discovers that Alex is ... • 5. Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness Essay Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness Joseph Conrad s novel Heart of Darkness written in 1902 is an overwhelming chronicle of Marlow s journey into the heart of the African continent. It is one of the most influential novels of the twentieth century. In this ghastly and horrific tale, Marlow leads an expedition up the Congo River, only to find everything is not as it seems. This haunting and mysterious story takes him into the unbearable core of the jungle. The novel also explores trade and exploration, imperialism and colonization. The use of darkness means several things in this book. It is used in the title, as Heart of Darkness many people doesn t understand the book, or the meaning it brings with it. I feel that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Darkness and evil can happen to anyone in anyway, it happened to Marlow and Kurtz mentally, and then it affects what you physically. The meaning darkness does not mean the same for everyone, it is different in our minds to what others think, we all have different opinions of what we think something is. For example, if you look up the word darkness or dark in a dictionary you may find more than one meaning. First meaning it gave dark, no light, dull cutoff from the rest of the world, gloomy, sad, sinister, evil secret, night, not knowing. These are all words that could have been used in the book. The jungle could be sinister and evil. I find that the word secret represents what goes on in the jungle very well. It makes you think carefully about what might be in the jungle, the dangers and cautions of the jungle. It also seems very mystical. It shows that maybe the jungle has something to hide that it doesn t want you to know about, it wants to keep it to itself. In the book, as Marlow travels up the Congo River, he himself begins to become sinister and evil, he isn t his usual self. Ship me somewhere south of Europe, where the best can be the worst, where there aren t no ten commandments, and a man can raise a thirst . This is a piece of poem, by Rudyard Kimpling. This I relate to Marlow. He has been taken to Africa in Southern Europe, and where there aren t any rules or laws. Anything could happen, and the evil comes out of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Diagnosis And Therapeutic Strategies Of Ebola Virus From the first outbreak in DRC in 1976 to the recent epidemic in West Africa (2013 2015), there has been a considerable amount of research done to further the development of the diagnosis and therapeutic strategies of the Ebola virus. Methods for detecting the virus have improved drastically. From the initial stage of simply identifying the virusas a whole, diagnosis can now define the specific species of the virus. Diagnosis processes developed over the years are those that involve Cell Culture, AntibodyDetection, Protein Antigen Detection, Conventional RT PCR, and Real Time RT PCR, which is the current standard for EVD diagnosis. In terms of the therapeutic process, there is still no cure or vaccine that has been approved or cleared for use on human patients with EVD. The therapy hence largely depends on the immunity of the patient and general treatment of symptoms as they occur. INTRODUCTION EBOV (Ebola virus) is an enveloped RNA virus belonging to the family Filoviridae; under the electron microscope, it appears filamentous (Strong, et al. 2006). The genus Ebolavirus comprises of five EBOVs; EBOV being identified as the causative agent of the recent outbreak (Broadhurst, Brooks Pollock, 2016). Ebola virus disease is caused by three Ebolaviruses EBOV included. In humans, the disease is clinically characterized by severe hemorrhagic fever with a 90% fatality rate. • 7. The Theory Of Knowledge, Evans And Smith In presenting their theory of knowledge, Evans and Smith refer to the account of proper functioning as put forth by Alvin Plantinga. This account is foundational in the development of their own theory, specifically in regards to their conceptual dissection of what constitutes warrant. However, Plantinga s account of proper functioning supposes a theistic element that generates a discomfort in Evans and Smith, such that their own theory of knowledgetries for a secular, or naturalistic, procedure of understanding proper functions; their desiderata are thus sustainable not by virtue of the existence of a supernatural creator, but via the basic principles of natural selection. In taking this stance, Evans and Smith discover themselves... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Previous accounts of warrant have mishandled proper function, but also: thought experiments in which it is generally agreed that warrant has not been achieved can be explained, in some manner, by cognitive malfunction. Proper function can be simply understood, in the general sense, as how something ought to work, should it be working correctly. The bird s wing should function in a manner that gives it the ability to fly, as should the heart function by pumping blood. A broken wing that cannot be used to fly and a heart that does not pump blood are thus both functioning improperly. Similarly, if we are to have warranted beliefs, we require our cognitive equipment to be functioning in the proper manner. If we believe we see a red table in front of us, in order to be warranted in that belief our eyes must be functioning properly, and all of the parts of our brain concerned with the cognitive processing and realization of this fact must themselves also be functioning properly. Now, it may be considered that someone is very much justified in believing that there is a red table, but unbeknownst to themselves, the red table is the mere product of a very strong and irresistible hallucination. In this case they would not have a warranted belief, as their cognitive apparatus is behaving inappropriately; the processes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Written in this viewpoint, the story is read as a tale instead of an autobiography and the author becomes more distant with the story like he is looking into it rather than writing it. O Brien most likely wrote parts of the story in third person because it is traditional and benefits the reader by allowing them to get to know multiple characters rather than just the narrator. The Things They Carried and Speaking of Courage are two of the more personal chapters in the novel and by writing them in third person, the reader may feel more involved in the story. Cole, he s become one of the biggest rappers in the game alongside Kendrick Lamar and Drake. As much as it seems like I criticize Cole, over the years he turned into one of my favorite all time rappers. To celebrate the Birthday of J. By using detailed character traits, Faulkner depicts people in the short story A Rose for Emily. Emily is a character who is crippled with fear, lacking the courage to live because of the control and dominance of her father. Her bodies appearance is a physical sign of how even though her father has passes his abusive attitude is still evident in her life. The title A Rose for Emily gives the indication that Emily has an issue with time or being in denial about time s progression. Faulkner writes that the men in attendance to Emily s funeral have confused time with mathematical progression. He uses a metaphor that time is usually seen as a diminishing road but it is rather a huge meadow which nothing can touch. The characters that attend Emily s funeral give a major aspect of what theme Faulkner is depicting. The denial of time or time s progression is linked to her father crippling Emily through abuse making her unable to be independent, forcing her to live her life under the utter influence and control of himself. Emily s issue with time is directly connected to her other problem of accepting death. This issue in Emily s life is also a stem from her fathers devastating abuse. I November 8, 2017 Gender and Dress Code High school dress codes are rules for clothing that is deemed either appropriate or inappropriate to wear to school. Standard codes in public schools, that don t have uniforms, typically require students to have sleeved garments and leg wear that is a certain length. At some schools, the term leg wear doesn t include leggings, while other schools permit leggings as long as your shirt or other clothing reaches the length that shorts are required to meet. After attending five public schools, three of which during my high school career, I can verify that these were typically the enforced rules. All schools also had rules against hats and certain headgear, though exceptions would sometimes be made, such as in the case of spirit week. My most recent school has, for the most part, been very relaxed about dress codes. Most of the rules are simply to maintain a piece of decency among the students. The code basically calls for undergarments to remain concealed, provocative skin can t be shown, shirts must have sleeves, and leg wear must be longer than your fingertips with your hands at your sides. However, there are some inconsistencies with dress codes that I have noticed and can t seem to understand. There seems to be lenience for boys when it comes to the enforcement of dress codes. Of course, boys don t have a tendency to wear track shorts or tank tops to school. However, I ve been coded for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From short stories like The Yellow Wallpaper, to the court cases like Ellen Pao s Suit vs. Kleiner Perkins, and even a data book like Women in the Labor Force, it is clear to see that inequality and mistreatment of women still exists today. People often say that inequality is a thing of the past, however it has been a serious problem since the dawning of civilization itself, and it is still so today. Women are often seen as lesser beings than men, and are treated accordingly. It is getting better, and women are starting to take their rightful places as equals in the workforce, and as equals in general. However, the world still has a long way to go before the inequality and mistreatment of women comes to a complete stop. In The Yellow Wallpaper , the authors explores the world through the eyes of the narrator. The narrator is a womanwho has been taken away to live in the countryside for the summer due to temporary nervous depression (Gilman). This diagnosis was done by her husband, a physician, who treats her more like a possession than a spouse. Though he has diagnosed her with this, he is seen saying that she is not really sick at all. He gives her incorrect medicines, not believing her when she says something is wrong. Captain Phasma, however, was not portrayed like most female characters in past films. Instead of being depicted as a sexual and dependent character, her script and costume conveyed otherwise. Captain Phasma wore an outfit similar to an average stormtrooper of any gender that did not sexualize her character. As well as this, the script used for her character showed little correlation to the stereotypical female presentation in prior films. It consisted of her characters script corresponding to how a stormtrooper captain would behave. She was not there to please the audience, or act sexy, but instead to play a part in the movie. Another representation of this is the female character, Rey. This character was given the opportunity to develop into who she was, not for the purpose of a man. A Tale Of Two Cities Essay Capitol Punishment: Toy of Evil Men One might believe that because capital punishment plays such a large role in Charles Dickens A Tale Of Two Cities, that Dickens himself is a supporter of it. This just simply is not true. Dickens uses capitol punishment as a tool to define the evil embodied in both the French ruling class, and the opposing lower class during the French Revolution; as well as comment on the sheep like nature of humankind. In the beginning of the novel, capital punishment serves as the quot;cure all quot; for France s social problems. Again Dickens uses capitol punishment as a way to show the reader the atrocities that humanity can create when consumed with hatred and evil. Just as with the Aristocrats, Dickens does not condone the Jacques use of capital punishment. His disdain is apparent in his tone; which gnaws away at any inkling the reader may have that the treatment of the prisoners is fair. Capital punishment is also used as a social commentary by showing how people cling to the popular attitudes and beliefs of the day. People are quick to adopt the guillotine as their new savior. Dickens articulates the common attitude towards this when he writes, quot;[the guillotine] was the sign of the regeneration of the human race. It superseded the cross quot; (271). We moved from an agrarian base to an industrial one. By the mid 50s the majority of jobs were found in factories. Manufacturing suffered heavy blows during the late 60 s and early seventies and was displaced by the service industry. With the closing of the 20th century those services have become increasingly technological. Surviving those changes requires adaptation, not only in the retooling of physical plants and the retraining workers, but also in the way we manage those workers. Some feel that there appears to be an underlying theme in books and papers on the subject of HRM, that there is only one correct way to manage people. (2) Maslow on Management offers a much different approach, demonstrating conclusively that one size does not fit all; i.e., that different people need to be managed differently. HMR models operating on the assumption that there is a single right way to manage people are using workplace criteria that are quickly becoming a thing of the past. The one way model views people working for an organization as employees who work full time and are solely dependent on that organization for their livelihood and their careers. These employees generally were viewed as subordinates with limited or very narrow skill sets. (3) These images of the worker may have been valid several decades ago. However, today every one of ... • 39. A Brief Note On The Income Measurement And Revenue... Income Measurement/Revenue Recognition A.IAS 18 Relationship A customer walks into her local Wal Mart Supercenter to purchase a few necessities and Christmas gifts. Once the customer has found everything on her list, she goes to the nearest register to pay for her items. Her groceries totaled $102.50, her pet food cost $21.60, the videogame she picked out for her nephew is $80.00, and finally she purchased two Wal Mart gift cards totaling $50.00. Even though the customer s total sale is $279.10, Wal Mart cannot recognize any of the revenue unless the transaction meets all of the criteria listed in IAS 18. IAS 18 is an accounting regulation that mandates how companies are to determine whether or not a transaction constitutes the recognition of revenue. Revenue regularly comes from the sale of goods or prepayment for services to be rendered, however, it can only be recognized if there is an economic benefit on behalf of the seller and the reliability of the revenue is provable. Wal Mart is in the business to sell goods to customers, so they can only recognize revenues from completed transactions that are reliable in nature (IAS 18 Revenue 2009). Our customer purchased $279.10 in groceries and merchandise, but Wal Mart is not able to recognize the full transaction as revenue. In the past, companies network infrastructures were capable of managing low amounts of attacks on the network. This is not the case today. The number of online attacks is getting bigger and bigger. Today children from age 6 are capable of breaking into someone s network system. For attackers, it does not matter whether it is a large or small business or an individual computer. • 41. The Importance Of Word Superiority On Word Recognition The purpose of this essay is to evaluate the effects of word frequency and superiority on word recognition when considering three models of lexical access with these being the logogen, frequency ordered bin search (FOBS) and TRACE models. Included in this analysis empirical proof from research studies will be considered. It is vital to understand the relevance of the word frequency and superiority effects before contemplating their role in the models of lexical access. Word frequency is often associated with Balota and Chumbley (1984) as their research, comprising of three experiments using 20 participants, demonstrates that the time taken to respond to a high frequency, commonly occurring words was shorter than that of a low frequency when recognising words. Contrasting this, Mosell, Doyle and Haggard (1989) observed this effect on a lexical decision and then a semantic categorisation task. Their findings demonstrate that word frequency and response time are equally related in all tasks involving word identification. Balota and Chumbley (1990) responded to the criticism as they remain confident in their own findings supporting the view that word frequency demonstrates that words we encounter on a daily basis require a shorter response time. The purpose of the word superiority effect is explored in Reicher s (1969) study which used 9 female students. After being extensively tested via forced choice letter recognition on ability to recognise varying stimuli (4 letter words ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The answer is yes: the same lifestyle changes that might have prevented your diabetes can help you to treat it. As important as lifestyle is in causing diabetes, it may be even more important in treating type diabetes, as well as diabetes. Diabetes is unique chronic disease, affected by virtually every aspect of lifestyle, including eating, physical activity, and school, work, and travel schedule. Conversely, all of these activities are affected by diabetes. While many diseases require attention to taking prescribed medications, diabetes demands constant attention and vigilance with regard no timing and content of meals and physical activity, glucose monitoring, administration of numerous medications including insulin, foot care, and a host of other self care requirements. And diabetes can be a petulant, jealous companion; if you ignore your care, even for a little while, it will make you pay with uncomfortable and potentially dangerous hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia. And if you don t pay attention to the myriad details of care over a long period of time, the penalty can be much more severe with loss of vision, kidney failure, foot ulcers, amputations and heart disease. On the bright side, during the past two decades, clinical trials have shown us that persons with diabetes can live long, productive, and complication free lives. Studies in diabetes have demonstrated how to achieve near normal blood glucose levels. In addition, we have developed effective interventions to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels in people with diabetes. The three readings; Being in the Market versus Being in the Plaza: Material Culture and the Construction of Social Reality in Spanish America, Excluded Spaces: The Figure in the Australian Aboriginal Landscape, and Indexical Speech across Samoan Communities all approach this topic differently. The first uses physical anthropologyto examine the landscape, the second uses anthropological taboo to examine how this impacts the culture, and finally the third uses linguistic anthropology to analyze the home life of a tribe. Criticism In Dorian Shelley s The Player And Dorian Gray Monika and Lord Henry are the opposite of The Player and Dorian Gray, driving the plot to fit their intention of changing the protagonist to fit some ideology. Their archetype is the Puppet Master, exerting control by manipulating others. Without Monika s epiphany (Team Salvato) in realizing that she is just a side character, but wanting more, or Lord Henry fascination of Dorian Gray s aura of innocence, the plot of the stories would be quite dull and would not have been notable pieces of rhetoric. When sharing poems in the day part of Doki Doki Literature Club, Monika states that her writing has changed, telling The Player You can say I kind of had a sort of epiphany lately. She later adds a file into the game files that say I did not do anything dangerous... All I did was untie the knot (Team Salvato). Monika has a mentality that the other character s actions are their own, and that she is not at fault for the events resulting of her influence. This mentality directly correlates with Lord Henry s idea of Dorian s change in expression after he shared his intense views of vanity and life. Lord Henry observes He [Lord Henry] was amazed at the sudden impression that his words had produced... He had merely shot an arrow into the air. Had it hit the mark? How fascinating the lad was! (Wilde, 22). Though Oscar Wildequickly hints that there is something deeper to his novel by writing the reader as omnipotent, Team Salvato preferred to make the reader a character. The team subtlety hints that there is something strange occurring in the game, saving their big reveal that Monika is the Puppet Master until the Good Ending. This difference shows another aspect of how archetypes have withstood time, the ability to adapt to what the author needs out of the archetype. Oscar Wilde wanted his audience to know who was the Puppet Master from the start of the novel to set his novel apart from other Victorian era novels; on the other hand, Team Salvato used the Puppet Master archetype to first seem like a standard dating simulator until the ending, shocking The Player more than if they revealed Monika s intentions in the beginning of the game. • 52. Analysis Of To A Louse By Robert Burns Itchy, tiny, and crawly are words that people use to describe a louse, but Robert Burns s poem To a Louse tells a different story. Although this poem has a rough exterior, the story should not be overlooked just because of the different writing style. The poem begins by telling the story of a little louse peeking out of a sophisticated woman s bonnet. The third person feels that this low life louse does not belong with a classy lady, but he should be among the beggars. Then, the poem ends pointing out that the woman is being acknowledged by the bug on her bonnet and not by her looks. The poem ends with a message in the last stanza saying To see oursels as ithers see us! (Burns). Understanding the summary of the poem, the story can be further explored by looking at the background and literary devices. In evaluating this poem, one can gain an insight on the historical context, irony, and how this literary device affects the audience s thoughts. Robert Burns uses this poem to give the reader an awareness of his life as a poor Scott at the time. This unique style of language was thought to be a result of Burns s upbringing. Around the time the poem was written, 1784 to 1786 Robert Burns struggled economically with his fam and used poetryas a distraction (Shairp). David Sampson in The Modern Language Review writes Initially his low birth and, in particular, his lack of a liberal education were regarded as disadvantages for which allowance had to be made in criticism (24). Robert Burns was someone with a low social classthat many believed was why he writes in this style, but rather than being a disadvantage, people saw this as a way for Burns to be original and not influenced by poets prior to him (Sampson 25). This childhood could be a reason of why he points out the woman in gauze and lace to be vain. An article in the Scottish Literary Review writes She also conveys a strong impression of Burns s own thoughts about this process of poetic development, seeing in him an extraordinary instance of class anger, class denial and class bargaining on a grand scale (Andrews). The viewer is introduced to the dolly zoom in the first scene when they look through Scottie s eyes as he hangs from the gutter and looks down to the pavement below. The dolly scene gives the sense of vertigo. In this scene it makes the ground seem so much farther below than what it is. Hitchcock uses this shot throughout the film to give a feeling of false reality. The shot works by moving the camera back on a track while zooming in at the same time. This shot is also known as the vertigo shot. In the bell tower, this shot clearly puts the viewer into what Scottie is feeling at the time. It makes the viewer seem uneasy like they might suffer from Vertigo. In addition to this, Hitchcock perfectly uses the camera angle and the actors to tell a separate story. In the scene where he meets with his old friend, Gavin Elster, Hitchcock basically choreographed the actor s movement and camera angles to set a mood and give foreshadowing. In this scene, Elster is sitting down while Scottie is standing in front of him asking the questions showing dominance. Once Scottie sits down, Elster stands up and stands on the steps to the second level, giving this sense of him being higher than Scottie. The camera follows Elster but then once Elster confesses why he wants Scottie to follow him, the camera pans in tight to his face. At this point Elster blocking is extreme in this shot. After his confession, the two men stay in the same position as the camera angle retreats on a dolly bringing both men into frame. This example shines light onto Hitchcock s use of blocking and camera use that is evident throughout the film. Another major use of the camera is the way it used to show Scottie s point of view. The narrative is restricted so that means the viewer can only see what the protagonist is seeing at that time. This is clear in the scene where Scottie is following Madeline as she ...
