Rhetorical Analysis On Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai: The Young Advocate
The Nobel Peace Prize is an international prize that is awarded annually by the Norwegian Nobel
Committee. It is one of the five awards that are given on the topics of physics, physiology, chemistry,
literature, medicine¸ and peace annually since 1901. It is said that in Nobel s will the Peace Prize is to
go to whoever shall have done the most of the best work for fraternity between nations...and for the
holding and promotion of peace congresses. Malala Yousafzai, born on July 12, 1997, grew up to
become an advocate for girls education. She believed that girls demanded the right to be allowed to
receive an education and with that she received a death threat from a Taliban. On October 9, 2012,
Malala was traveling home from school and she was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman. She was
left in critical condition but she miraculously survived. After her recovery, she continued to be an
advocate for women s education and gave a speech at the United Kingdom. In October 2014,
Yousafzai received the Nobel Peace Prize, becoming the youngest person to receive this award. In her
speech, Malala uses many rhetorical strategies to get her message published. Some of the strategies
include: apostrophe, anaphora, oxymoron, hyperbole, and antithesis. ... Show more content on

An apostrophe is a sudden turn from the general audience to address a specific group or person or
personified abstraction absent or present. In the beginning of the speech she starts by thanking
everyone for their support and love. She tells why she is appreciative of them as a whole. However,
she then turns and addresses to just her mother and father for their unconditional love. She then
specifies why she is thanking her mother and father individually. The purpose of an apostrophe is to
make it easy for the reader to understand the thoughts and relate to the emotions of the

Shadow Of The Truth Persuasive Speech
In 2016, Donald Trump was elected president of the United States, and he went into the office in
January 2017. In a year, he has turned America against him. He is the most unpopular president
American has ever seen. At a year only 39% approve of Donald Trump and what he is doing makes
him the lowest in approval rating ever seen. This is because he had the lowest approval rating when he
came into office in January of 2017. John Cole has been a political cartoonist for the Time Tribune
since April of 2005. In the political cartoon Shadow of the Truth demonstrates how Donald Trump
declares he is not a racist, but he turns around and says something or post something on social media
that is racist. The first thing that caught my eye was the shadow of Trump which was a silhouette of
the Ku Klux Klan also known as the KKK. Cole references the KKK by using the silhouette of what
their outline looked like. He made the silhouette s hand look like what Trump was doing with his
hand. That is how we know that the silhouette is supposed to represent Trump. ... Show more content

The words represent what Trump presumes he is not saying, but, he is. There has been some proof of
what he is saying. For example, in 2016 for his presidential campaign he said, Mexican immigrants as
criminal and rapist . That was just one thing, but there has been more than one occurrence even before
he became president. This is one of many people don t like him as president. There are many colors in
the picture, but the ones that stand out is the black silhouette and the white words inside it. The black
silhouette represents the darkness that is happening every time Trump utters a racist comment. The
white words inside represent what he is saying, but why couldn t the words be another color like red
because red would represent blood. The blood would represent the people he is hurting when utters

Pros And Cons Of Hela Cells
The injustices and struggles that the American people the middle class, the peasants impoverished
class, the bitches women, the primal indians indigenous people, the faggots LGBT, the retards
disabled, the niggers African Americans often face are never noticed or are intentionally disregarded
for the sake of stability, but one impoverished African American woman s and her family s story has
made it to the ears of the general American populace Henrietta Lacks. You may know her as Helen
Larson, Helen Lane, or Henrietta Lakes, but, to the medical community, patients, and much of the

How can the actions of Hopkins be considered wrong or punishable when related legislation and the
circumstances for moral condemnation were both absent?
Secondly, how can you claim compensation when you have no ownership of HeLa cells? The Lacks
family claimed that they deserved a cut of the profits of HeLa cells.
...All they knew was that Gey had grown their mother s cells at Hopkins, someone somewhere was
making money off of them, and that someone wasn t related to Henrietta Lacks. So, in an attempt to
get Hopkins to give them what they saw as their cut of the HeLa profits, they made handouts about
Henrietta Lacks s family being owed their due (Skloot 140)...
That someone somewhere making money off of HeLa cells was almost the entire medical community
that had been doing so for decades. Besides the self evident impracticality of getting a majority of
those groups to pay up, these companies, scientists, researchers, etc. get their profits from having

Company was a British company that traded for goods, services, and raw materials with India. What
initially started as a trading company became a company ruling a country with Brittan s backing. The
company established an army in India comprised mostly of local citizens called Sepoys. With help
from the British army and navy, the East India Company fought other European countries also
occupying India for control of the region. By 1715 the EIC and Brittan had beaten back the French in

In order to end the civil acts of disobedience the British agreed to set all political prisoners free in
1931. This agreement was known as Gandhi Irwin pact; Lord Irwin was the viceroy of India at the
time (History, 2010).
Page 4 In 1939 World War II broke out in Europe. Britain proclaimed India s involvement in the war
without consulting the Indian people. This led to increased protest and volatility. In 1942 India
established a national army and proposed the Quit India Movement. This movement promised to lend
Indian military support to Britain in return for complete independence. If they refused this treaty the
Indian people promised civil disobedience. In 1947 India was granted its independence and became
self governing (Luscombe, 2012). On January 26, 1950 the Republic of India was proclaimed and it
drafted a constitution. The first democratic elections were held in 1952. However the Hindus and
Muslims were not united and colonial India was divided into Muslim Pakistan and Hindu India
(History, 2010). In contrast to the non violent Indian revolution the American Revolution was a violent
struggle for independence from Britain. The British victory in the French and Indian War left Britain s
resources stretched thin due to the fact that its land holding had increased in size. The war was also
expensive and drained the British coffers. In order to remedy this problem American colonist were

With their big eyes, big ears, and bigger than life attitude, this Alfa fears nothing. This Alfa is named
the Chihuahua. The Chihuahua comes in a very diminutive package. Although some people dislike
them, many think they are a very astonishing breed. The Aztecs were a big part in the history of the
Chihuahua. The Chihuahua is a graceful breed with bright, alert eyes. Their large ears are in the shape
of a triangle. Their big ears are almost bat like because they are so large. The Chihuahua needs lots of
grooming but long haired Chihuahuas need the most. The Chihuahuas coat may be smooth or long. It
can also be straight or wavy. The Chihuahua is the smallest of the registered dog breeds. Although ...

The Techichi was crossed with tiny, hairless, Chinese dogs. The mix resulted in a dog similar to the
Chihuahua. They were first brought to America when Alaska and Asia were still connected to it. They
may have also brought to Latin America directly by Spanish traders in the 1500s. The Chihuahua is
probably crossed with the English Black and the Tan Terriers. The long coated Chihuahuas were
probably the result of crossing smooth coated Chihuahuas with Papillons and Pomeranians. The
Aztecs adopted the little dogs as sacred icons of the upper classes. They were also used in religious
ceremonies. The Toltecs are believed to be the first to domesticate the Techichi. The remains of the
Chihuahuas were found in graves in Mexico and the U.S. No one really knows for sure about the
Chihuahua s history. Their most recent ancestor is probably the Little Red Techichi. They were raised
by the Aztecs of Ancient Mexico. They were often killed with dead Aztecs as part of religious beliefs.
They also may have been used for food. The modern smooth haired Chihuahuas probably look much
the Techichi dogs did. The Chihuahua shares the same first ancestor with all dogs. The wolf is their
first ancestor. Then the Giant St. Bernards and the Alaskan Malamutes. The Graw Chihuahua looks

Competition And Predation Play An Important Role
Coexistence has been happening among many species since the beginning of time throughout nature.
The way species exist is of great complexity as many factors such as: competition and predation play
an important role (Chase et al. 2002; Holt 1984; Paine 1966). Ecosystems, communities and
populations all face competition between their species. Studies are constantly being done to show how
different species survive together or die trying and what is it that they are fighting to survive over.
Different habitats, predator, prey, and so many other factors play a role in the survival of species like
protists. Many laboratory studies have been done on two protists, Paramecium aurelia and
Paramecium caudatum, to see different aspects of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The prey will go slam down on the ground in seconds and be devoured in minutes by the lion. The
lion is allelopathy at its best because there is competition over survival and territory with animals of
this nature. Territory can be a limited resource depending on the time of year and the environment as a
whole, trees and brush being chopped down pose a problem when it comes to sneaking up on prey.
Gause started experimenting on protists to observe their development and observe their survival
ability together (Gause). Paramecium can be found in many places: wet areas like lakes and rivers or
dry areas such as those of trees and soil. Gause set out to experiment with Paramecium aurelia and
Paramecium caudatum to determine if they fit the competitive exclusion theory that he came up with
(Gause 1935). The class was given both parameciums to experiment with for the validity of
coexistence. The competitive exclusion theory begs the question, can two species coexist together
over a resource or will one of them be driven to extinction? Gause may have been the leader to start
the protists experiment but he wasn t the only one to question competition. Gill had questioned Gause
s theory and decided to do his own research. Gill experimented on two species pure and mixed
cultures of Paramecium aurelia. After experimenting Gill discovered that Paramecium aurelia did not
match up to Gause s theory and did not compete over a limited resource instead

Comparing Byzantine And Western Culture
The two halves shared some similarities and one of them was the form of entertainment that occurred
in their culture. The Roman Empire and Byzantine cherished watching gladiator fights as well as
chariot races at the big stadiums. In Rome they watched at the coliseum while in Byzantine the
watching was done at Circus Maximus.
Both the Western and the Eastern halves considered themselves Roman s even though Eastern Rome
was greatly influenced by Greek Culture. However, the Eastern half has its headquarters in
Constantinople city and not Rome. The end of the late antiquity marked the split of the Roman Empire
into two, i.e. Western Rome and Eastern Rome. The former mainly spoke Latin while the latter spoke

Vanity In Pride And Prejudice
Solomon was known as the smartest and wisest man in the world. He became a king of Israel, and
decided that he was going to figure out where happiness is found. He thought that money might be
able to make him happy, so he became the richest man in the world, but he was unsuccessful in his
pursuit of happiness. He then tried alcohol and women, but he was still unsuccessful. By the end of his
pursuit, he eventually determined that happiness could not be found in possessions and money, or any
earthly pleasure. For people in modern times, possessions and wealth are often what guide
relationships the modern life in general. People who put value in material wealth will struggle and
struggle all their lives, but will never be able to find true happiness. Literature and entertainment
provides countless examples of the truth of this statement. For much of their lives, Fitzwilliam Darcy
and Charlie Babbitt show only pride and love for their money and possessions, and until they met the
people who eventually be the most important to them, they weren t able to truly experience love and
redemption from their vain lifestyles.
In both Pride and Prejudice and Rain Man, Charlie and Mr. Darcy show traits of excessive pride and
vanity when they find self worth in their money and social status. When Charlie originally decides he
is going to take Raymond back to Los Angeles from Cincinnati, he is trying to use Ray as leverage so
that he can get his share of his recently passed father s

The Wife s Lament And The Seafarer Analysis
The
Similarities of The Wife s Lament and The Seafarer Life away from home can be hard, but imagine
what it would be like if it was to a harsh sea or under a giant tree. In the two poems we will be
dissecting, you will see how these two different situations have a lot in common. In one of the oldest
poems known in the world, The Seafarer was written long by an unknown author.
Throughout the poem we see how the man takes his exile emotionally and physically, all the while he
sails the sea and world. He goes to other countries and shows how on his missions he sees amazing
things, but he expresses how sad he is. In the second poem, The Wife s Lament, a woman is exiled to a
cave by her husband, and she goes through all her thoughts and emotions, and she decides to get out
her anger and heartbreak for her husband, she curses him while is out at sea. While we go through
both of these poems, we will find differences between exiles. In The Seafarer, it isn t known whether
the man was exiled, or if he willingly left his home.
Throughout the poem you can see the way that the man holds himself together, and how he feels about
the people on the land. This the man does not know for whom on land it turns out most favourably,
how i, wretched and sorrowful, on the ice cold sea... In this line, we can see that the man is very angry
about having to be out at sea. While he is out at sea, he talks about his family back at home that later
help us connect The SeaFarer to The Wife s Lament. You can see how the mans actions and words
were very Pagen at the beginning of the poem, but slowly transform into Christian values and words
change by the end of the poem. This leads many people to believe that the original poem have been
translated by high church member, because they were the only ones back then that were educated
enough to read and write. If it were translated by a high ranking church member, it is possible that
some of it might have been changed. As you move onto the second poem, The Wife s Lament, we look
at an exile, through a different person s eyes. When the Wife is still on land, she is still exiled far away
to a cave area under a great tree. Although she was not on the seas, she still found

Persuasive Essay On How To Get A Driver s License
Getting my driver s license was a huge milestone in my life. There are a lot of steps to take in order to
earn a license. You need to be prepared to drive in a world where rules are an abstract concept, and are
rarely applied. Here is the process I went through to obtain my driver s license, and how I barely
achieved a goal that was very important to me.
Before I could even think about driving myself to school, I had to obtain a learner s permit for 6
months. Most teenagers earn their learner s permit at 15 and a half, their parents give them $365 to go
to driving school for 2 weeks, and then they have their license at 16 years old. That was not the case
for me. My parents were not as supportive of me nor as excited as most parents would be for their
teenagers to get their driver s license. I was unable to earn my permit until I was 16. When the long
and torturous 6 months of me driving with my mother were finally over, I simply asked my parents if
they could financially help me out with driving school. They never had the money for those kinds of
things. That meant it was all up to me to be independent and get a job. At seventeen years old I had
enough money to take to the Springfield School of Driving and place a deposit to start my classes.
After I finished driving school, I was eager to schedule my driver s exam.
August 22, 2017 was a rainy day. At the time, I had never even driven once in the rain. I was unaware
how to use both windshield wipers and headlights. This

Government cannot remove evil (Fischer, 2013 p. 2). They can only restrain evil through the passage
and enforcement of laws and regulations (Fischer, 2013 p. 2 3). Rules of Federalism which apply to
the different agencies in the federal and state governments along with local on community groups
working together would apply in the passage of this bill as it will take the cooperation of several levels
of government in order to implement it. The Bible speaks of restorative justice (Acts 3:19 21, Romans
7:15) in the concept of having the ability to change the inner person in realms of what is causing the
bad behavior that led to sin and crime. The government should help and have a say in passing reforms
and laws that will be in agreement with God s law and interpret a biblical worldview in the process of
doing so. It is important for the long run for the government to be involved and adjust the laws when it
comes to incarcerating non violent offenders as it is offering forgiveness and the ability to be
accountable and show restitution which is supported by the Bible.

The Battle Between Commercial Software and Open-Source...
Will commercial software survive the battle with open Source software or are they already losing?
How (if at all) are the commercial software houses defending themselves?
Part 1: Basic Concepts:
Terms:
Free and open source software (FOSS) is software that is both open source software and free software.
This means that it is freely licensed to use, examine, copy, alter the source code of the software, and
the source code it self is openly shared. However, for software to be considered FOSS it must pass a
certain criteria established by the Open Source Initiative (OSI). They determine that FOSS must have

Therefore, it falls into the distinct categories of shareware (demo or trial software where you can
download it for free but some features are restricted or to continue to use the software a payment is
required) and payware (traditional pay to use software) but not freeware (since its free). In all cases
however, the source code is hidden from the users, so that the rights holders (the software publishers)
can sell the binary executable (source code).
History:
Commercial software has been around since 1948 (when the first computer which could hold software
was created, nicknamed baby). The history of FOSS has a strong connection with the hackers in
Massachusetts Institute of Technology. These hackers in 1970s created something ARPANET (known
today as the internet). There were discussions to sell it commercially however the university and its
hackers were strongly opposed to such an idea for they had worked with the ideology that sharing
information is a virtue and they had a moral duty to provide knowledge to the world. These early
hackers stayed true to this ideology and made their software completely free with the source code
completely accessible. Richard Stallman was one of the main people who pushed forward this
ideology preventing the university to monetize the ARPANET and the software they created.
Late in 1997 in MIT the term Open Source software was coined. The developers also founded OSI
who determined what is

An Analysis Of Darth Vader
This political cartoon illustrated by Greg Perry depicts the famous antagonist of the movie saga Star
Wars, Darth Vader. He is shown with facial features like Canada s former Prime Minister, Stephen
Harper. Darth Vader is shown grasping a copy of an article about Bill C 51. The two letters, PM are
inscribed on Darth Vader s chest plate. This confirms that Vader is a symbol of comparison to Harper.
Vader is seen to utter the two words of TRUST ME , as it is the only dialogue he is using in this
cartoon. This cartoon also has a caption PRIVACY WARS.

is Harper s decision to enforce Bill C 51. After 9/11, terrorist attacks broke out in Canada. The terrorist

Mormon Life Essay
Mormons view the world with a broad perspective of eternity and a focused concern on the present.
Mormons believe that people exist before the world and they enter the world. Their life journey starts
with a pre mortal existence, where individuals exercise free will and progress spiritually by learning
from a loving God the principles of truth and happiness (Latter Day Saints, 2017). They leave it up to
God and know that he has their lives in his hands. Mormons are able to choose how they want to live
and it is up to them to make their own decisions about how they take action. They trust in God and
know that his main purpose for all of them is for them to be happy. They are firm believers in eternity.

Expressiveness In A Youtube Video Of Corelli s Christmas...
Expressiveness is something that communicates a well defined mood. In music, this is done by
making notes mean something. With this, the audience doesn t just hear music. They feel it. In a
Youtube video of Corelli s Christmas Concerto, an ensemble does this through many different ways.
First, they made use of transitions. At 1:02, the players changed over into a faster tempo than before.
The opposite is done at 1:22, where the change of tempo is done with one single note. The legato that
dominates much of the music conveys a sense of calmness. On the other hand, the staccato esque
section and fast tempo from 1:02 to 1:22 creates a sense of tension in the piece. These two moods
contrast each other and add another sense of dimension to the music.

those who are confirmed clinically dead (the heart stops beating), they are hooked up to a ventilator to

The Importance Of Pearl In The Puritan Society
For about as long as organized religion has existed, faith has been passed down from parent to child.
The children are willed by their parents to follow a set religion and adhere completely to its values,
beliefs and rules. The Puritan time in America was no different. In fact it was likely the era in which
religion and adherence to it was taken the most seriously. The Puritans worship of religion was a
dictating factor when it came to laws, customs, and societal actions. In the novel The Scarlet Letter by
Nathaniel Hawthorne, the portrayal and treatment of Hester s daughter, Pearl, in the Puritan society
develops the theme that religion is an oppressive system of beliefs that dictates the actions and
thoughts of its followers.
Ever since her birth, Pearl s behavior has been a bit off relative to the normal Puritan standard. A
typical Puritan child would not play as a present day child would. They would mature quickly to help
with various chores and other duties that had to be done. Pearl, however, was different. She was
described on multiple occasions as being wild as she truly explored her freedom, and let her
imagination work freely. This is prevalent where Hawthorne writes about Pearl that, At home, within
and around her mother s cottage, Pearl wanted not a wide and various circle of acquaintance. The spell
of life went forth from her ever creative spirit, and communicated itself to a thousand objects, as a
torch kindles a flame wherever it may be applied.

The Saint Of Saint Philomena As A Patron Saint
I have chosen St. Philomena to be my patron saint. Saint Philomena was born in Corfu Island, Greece.
Saint Philomena was born a Greek princess and lived for 13 years. She was believed to be a Virgin
Martyr. In 1802, the bones of a female between 13 and 15 were discovered in the catacomb of
St.Priscilla. They were believed to be her remains. They were discovered in May. St. Philomena was
found with three titles that said Lumena/ Paxte/ Cumfi.
When Philomena was 13 years old she took a vow of consecrated virginity. Philomena s father took
his family to the rump to make peace but emperor Diocletian fell in love with Philomena. When she
refused to marry him she was subjected to torture. St. Philomena was scrounged drowned with an
anchor attached to her and shot with arrows. The emperor attempted to kill St.Philomena 3 times but
she survived. Each time she was attacked angels took her side and healed her through a prayer. Many
saw how St.Philomena was treated and that she was still alive and they became Christians. The

Anzac Commencement Speech Good afternoon everybody, Good Afternoon esteemed guests who had

for inviting me here to witness such lovely gathering. What a beautiful day to celebrate, what a
wonderful place to be. In light of recent events, myself, along with another 31 lucky students across
the vicinity of Western Australia had the privilege to become student ambassadors and represent our
state for the 100th centenary anniversary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli in Turkey. it was a
chance for the current Western Australian youth to manifest pride, respect and honour towards the men

As we enter the sites, the students were overwhelmed with emotions, upon hearing about the tragedies
that transfixed within the place. The tragedies of Gallipoli often turns a soldier into a statistic of
numbers, rather than a person. The positioning of the trenches allowed us to realise the close
proximity of the two opposing sides. Nothing could have prepared us with the marvellous sites of the
near vertical cliffs overlooking the pebble Anzac Cove. From the beach, we made our way up Shell
Green and into Lone Pine via Artillery Road. It s such an overwhelming sentiment to come into terms
with, knowing that only 100 years had passed since our soldiers made the very same hike, only that
time, there were neither stairs, nor memorials to mark the horrors that s about to face them. The hike
itself made us come into terms with the terrors that were brought upon them, such as the wavering
weather, the steepness of the hike and the close proximity of the enemies within the vicinity of the

Shake And Stir By William Shakespeare
Shake and Stir Responding Task Shake and Stir Theatre Company is a compelling theatrical voice
which aspires to render Shakespeare s plays to appease modern audiences. However, William
Shakespeare penned his last play 400 years ago; despite this, his plays and sonnets are as alive today
as they were in the 16th and 17th Centuries. Shakespeare s plays still appeal to modern society
because of the universality of the dramatic themes love, deceit, political endorsement, honour,
ambition and courage humans still experience these emotions which give Shakespeare a foothold in
modern times. Shake and Stir sequenced together an array of modified scenes from Shakespeare s
most iconic plays, to implore dramatic meaning: Shakespearean text can be rendered to engross
modern audiences while maintaining its integrity and Elizabethan charm. Great Shakes is staged in a
graveyard, where three year ten students, Betty, Brock and Ben are incarcerated. However, after
appearances from several supernaturals, they are returned to their everyday lives, but not before they
manipulate Shakespeare s tragedies, comedies and histories to engage contemporary audiences. It is
evident, Shake and Stir s production, Great Shakes effectively conveyed the dramatic meaning of
Shakespeare s relevance in contemporary society. This was made explicit through; the re
contextualization of the historical context, utilisation of conventions from modern theatre (cinematic
theatre) and Elizabethan theatre.

Seed and expansion capital
The networking site starts growing rapidly, amassing users in campuses across the US. By the start of
2005, the site has nearly a million users in Harvard, Stanford, Columbia and Yale.
The company now embarks on a series of investment rounds that bring it closer to an IPO and a series
of buyout attempts from rival companies.
First, the company needed more seed money to continue scaling the business it wanted to move
beyond the university campuses.
So, there is a Series A round in 2005.
Accel Partners, a venture capital firm, led the investment round with the total funds raised hitting
$12,7 million. The valuation of the company hits $87,5 million.
The investment round featured angel investors Venky Harinarayan and Anand Rajaraman as well, who
recalled the investment decision in a Forbes article by stating, I remember talking to Accel after [an
event at Stanford]. The key reason they invested was because they talked to Stanford students and
found out that they use Facebook for two hours a day.
Series B followed shortly in April 2006.
The lead investment came from Greylock Partners, with Thiel and Accell featuring strongly during the
round. The total raised this time around stood at $27.5 million, increasing the valuation to $500
million.

Great Disasters And Disasters, By Hurricane Harvey
During times of great disasters and catastrophes, people will put aside their differences to lend a
helping hand to their fellow man. Those who need help are more than welcome to receive it, no matter
who gives it to them. However, on a normal day, people tend to separate from those who differ in race,
make offensive comments, or inflict violence because of ethnicity. In the end, we are all one race: the
human race. I was able to experience a moment where race and religion did not matter.

Dawn Octavia Butler Summary
The understanding of what Science Fiction is can be explained differently by many people. Most
perceive Science Fiction was windows to our future, as if those writers foresaw the future and are now
giving an explanation of how the future of the world will be. Frederic Jameson argues that Science
Fictions is more of a mock future , Science Fiction uses pieces of our everyday life and morphed it
into an image of our assumed future.
Science fiction is able to demonstrate and dramatize our incapacity to image the future . Frederic
Jameson says, meaning when looking at our reality, writers are able to envision a world where today s
issues carry on. A world where small laughable issues, such as a celebrity running for president.

Reagan would talk about starting a nuclear war to subdue the soviet empire. Americans at the time
were excited with the thought of a war, Butler was confused by the joy of violence and so, she decided
to create a world where this can occur.
Science Fiction points out the flaws we have as a society. One major flaw is the construction of
capitalism. A structure made where we are virtually fighting each other to be the person who owns the
most, to become the person with the most power.
In Dawn by Octavia Butler, a world is created in the post destruction of the world. It begins after the
destruction of Earth, ruled by greed the grew from the capitalism government. A world where the
leaders bombed each other until there was nothing left on the planet.
In Dawn an alien species, Oankali, come to save the human species from dying out. The Oankali are a
species that comes to save dying planets by combining their genetic material with the dying species, in
order to preserve the best qualities. We trade the essence of ourselves. Our genetic material for yours...

An Eventful Journey of Living on the Streets
Character traits shape the people we all are. For example, they help us face our fears through courage;
they show us right from wrong through responsibility; and they show us who to believe in tough
decisions through trust. Dana, the protagonist from Eric Walters Sketches, has a tough time learning
how to show her traits. However, as a child on the streets Dana fights through many tough obstacles
that enable her to become an optimistic, courageous and trusting individual.

Figurative Language In The Hunted Oak And The Lynching
The poems by Paul Dunbar and Claude McKay both use figurative language in the poems the The
Hunted Oak and The Lynching . The ways that they talk about it are completely different and invoke
different feeling out of you as both writers wanted to talk about an important issue. The hunted oak
was written in 1913 and The Lynching was written in 1920 so this tells us that it was a prominent
issue at the time. Each author used different literary devices to convey their feelings and to express
themselves. Their perception of terror is the same for both but how the convey it is different. The
poems are meant to have a sense of terror and fright.
The genre of the poem The Hunted Oak is drama because the author let s all the characters speak
throughout the poem. The subject of this poem is that there is a lynching going on and the tree is
affected by the actions. The theme of this poem is that terror but not to a person but to thing. There
was a lot of forms of diction in this poem. For example, there was connotation when he said And why,
when I go through the shade you throw runs a shudder over me (Dunbar). That line also gave the
reader imagery by using the word shudder, a person can physically see someone physically
shuddering. The tone of this poem was a somber one. It just gives the reading bad feeling for the tree
at the end of the poem.
This poem is unique because it is told from the tree s perspective. Dunbar gave the tree feelings, this
can be seen here I feel the rope against my bark against my bark . The theme of the poem is terror
because the tree has conveyed emotions that make it seems that he was emotionally scarred by this
event. This can be seen in the line For I feel his curse as a haunted bough on the trunk of a haunted
tree . Also, the way that the tree describes the event as a whole brings a sense of terror. For example,
in the line I feel in the throne of his final woe the touch of my own pain. This not say that the victim
who is being lynched is taking his last breath so does the tree. This also can be perceived that the tree
and the victim are interconnected, as their souls both leave the earth at the same time. Animist may
believe that the line is of terror because the lynches

Interpretation and Analysis of Wallace Stevens The Snow Man
The Snow Man by Wallace Stevens is a poem which creates a unique dramatic situation through an
effective imagery, and which compels the reader to employ another way of thinking in order to both
understand the poem and realize its very theme.
The first thing that is noticeable about the poem is that it is actually just one long, complex sentence.
There is no rhyme, and there is no particular meter. Each foot varies: the poem becomes a combination
of iambs ( the frost, and not, the sound, that is ), trochees ( winter, glitter, ), anapests ( to regard, to
behold, of the land ), dactyls ( junipers ), and others that are not of those kind ( that is blowing
unstressed, unstressed, stressed, unstressed). Also, each line has ... Show more content on

One particular image contained in these lines is that of the distant glitter (of the January sun). In this,
the poem uses sound of the short i in an assonance to support this idea of something so distant that it is
almost not there. The enjambment and the separation of the phrase of the January sun into another
stanza, also relates this idea of distance.
The second group contains multiple instances of the word sound, as well as the words listener and
listen. And there also is the prevailing sibilant sound of s misery, sound, leaves, same, listener, listens,
and snow which mimics the hissing sound of the wind...that is blowing in the same bare place. It is
clear, therefore, that these lines aim to appeal to the reader s sense of hearing.
What this grouping achieves is the recognition of the process that one goes through in leaving behind
his own mind and assuming another s mind, in this case that of the snow man. He is able to view the
world through different eyes, and thus is able to see the vivid little details of

Summary Of Happy Like God By Simon Critchley
What makes one person feel happy, may not make another person feel the same kind of feeling. All
people around the world look at and feel happiness in different ways than others. Happiness is
something that is extremely personal and very much varies from person to person. For example,
someone who likes thrills and adventures, such as an extrovert, would reach more energy and
happiness more than an introvert would. Whereas an introvert, would find more happiness and energy
when doing more laid back activities, such as reading a book by a warm window, baking some warm,
fresh cookies, or working out indoors on a treadmill or elliptical, instead of going out for a run in a
park or having a night on a town, in a loud night club. Everyone knows, at least one, activity in their
day to day life that they enjoy or find happiness doing.
In Simon Critchley s passage called Happy Like God, Critchley explains how he read a passage that
he thought was extraordinary and was good enough to write an essay on. The passage was from
Rousseau s final book, Reveries of a Solitary Walker. The passage described the experience of
someone floating on a rowboat on Lake of Bienne, next to the writer s native town, in his native
country. Critchley explains how he thinks this is the closest description of happiness he can imagine.
Ultimately, this would make people assume that Critchley finds most of his happiness from relaxing
activities than crazy, loud and overwhelming ones.
Critchley further goes on, expressing his thoughts on happiness by saying, Happiness is not
quantitative or measurable and it is not the object of any science, old or new. It cannot be gleaned
from empirical surveys or programmed into individuals through a combination of behavioral therapy
and anti depressants. If it consists in anything, then I think that happiness is this feeling of existence,
this sentiment of momentary self sufficiency that is bound up with the experience of time (Critchley
560). What he means by this, is that people learn to be happy by maturity, time and experiences. In the
passage, maybe Rousseau likes lying on a boat in the water because perhaps he had a house near a
great body of water and would hear the sounds of the waves crashing onto

these two different worlds are not so different after all. Holling Hoodhood is just trying to make it

that they have a loyal best friend with them by their side, their best friends will always stick up for
them, and their siblings are always there when the world may seem against them. Ponyboy Curtis and
Johnny Cade have an unbreakable bond. There are many reason that Pony and Johnny have this kind
of trust. Ponyboy has a pretty tough life where he lives. Two different worlds that are constantly
contrasting with each other. However even in such a difficult place to be, Ponyboy can always rely on
Johnny throughout the novel. Johnny wasn t behaving like his old self. He looked over his shoulder

The Cause Of The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Incident
The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Incident was a tragic event that occured due to poor safety
precautions. It occured in New York City on March 25, 1911 on the eighth and ninth floors of the Asch
building and it is the deadliest industrial disaster of that city and it also considered one of the deadliest
in US History. The factory normally employed about 500 workers, mostly young immigrant women,
who worked nine hours a day on weekdays plus seven hours on Saturdays earning 2 dollars for a 14
hour work day. Several events led up to the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Incident. Many workers were
demanding shorter hours, better pay, and safer shops, so they formed a labor union. However, the
owners did not want to succeed to the labor union s pleads and demands because they were terrified
that unions would diminish their authority over the workplace. Despite the owners unwillingness,
many of them succeeded to the labor unions demands because there was a lot of strikes in companies
and they needed their workers for the upcoming busy work season. However, the owners of the
Triangle Shirtwaist Factory: Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, did not want to succeed to those pleads
because their profits were declining and they did not have enough resources to please the workers
demands. The company sales were declining because their style of clothing was antiquated and it
could not keep up with the new extravagant fashion trends. There was also a lot of competition from

Haiti Earthquake Summary
This case study involves the troubled aftermath of the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the unkept promises
made to Haiti by surrounding countries, most notably, the United States. The story focuses on Pierre,
the student of a state university in Florida, whose parents migrated to Florida from Haiti in the mid
1970s. The passage begins with Pierre desperately voicing his concerns to his professor for Haiti and
the lack of involvement and compassion the outside world has for Haiti during such devastating times.
Although the United States is not the only country guilty of unfulfilled promises to Haiti, most
Haitians have directed their anger toward the US due of feelings of betrayal (Pg. 115). America has a
history of exploiting Haiti for self gain under the disguise of aid , most notably in regard to Haiti s

Neighbors recalled how Abraham would walk for miles to borrow a book. He undoubtedly read the
family Bible and probably other popular books at that time such as Robinson Crusoe, Pilgrims

Illinois. When his father moved the family again to Coles County, 22 year old Abraham Lincoln struck
out on this own, making a living in manual labor. At six feet four inches tall, Lincoln was rawboned
and lanky, but muscular and physically strong. He spoke with a backwoods twang and walked with a

wood for fire and rail fencing. Young Lincoln eventually migrated to the small community of New

The interaction between new media and genre theory is an ongoing process that continuously evolves
as new media steadily become more entrenched as methods of indispensable human communication.
As noted by Bawarshi and Reiff, [a] few studies to date have focused on public genres and their role in
constructing and maintaining knowledge and disseminating information (151). For example, they note
that Charles Bazerman has examined how tax forms demonstrate the interaction of information and
genre, motivating citizens to produce appropriate information as they fill out forms (Bawarshi and
Reiff 152). Charles Bazerman has also analyzed the interaction between genre and rhetoric in the
public arena in the digital age in his 2002 paper titled Genre and Identity: Citizenship in the Age of the

Rural households need credit for a variety of reasons. They need credit to meet short term
requirements of working capital and for long term investment in agriculture and other income bearing
activities. Agricultural and non agricultural activities in rural areas typically are seasonal, and
households need credit to smoothen out seasonal fluctuations in earnings and expenditure. Rural
households, particularly those vulnerable to what appear to others to be minor shocks with respect to
income and expenditure, need credit as an insurance against risk. In a society that has no law of free,
compulsory and universal school education, no arrangements for free and universal preventive and
curative health care, a weak system for the public distribution of food and very few general social
security programmes, rural households need credit for different types of consumption. These include
expenditure on food, housing, health and education. In the Indian context, another important purpose
of borrowing is to meet expenses on a variety of social obligations and rituals.
If these credit needs of the poor are to be met, rural households need access to credit institutions that

Course Project Introduction The goal of this document is to come up with a proposal for the company
IP PBX system. In this proposal I will introduce several different Voice over IP vendors, each fully
qualified to becoming our company s new IP PBX system. Only one of the vendors will be selected
based on the criteria laid out by the Chief Information Officer. The vendors I will be evaluating are

This includes email, chat, voice mail, IVR, outbound dial, CTI integration, URL browsing, and CRM
support. Genesys scores very high marks on email, chat, voice mail, IVR, and URL browsing. IVR or
interactive voice response is a system that interacts with callers to gather information and to route
calls to specific employees or agents. The Genesys reports that their IVR system can improve
customer experience by reducing live agent calls by 80%, increase automation rate by 10% with 1.5
million saved annually, and decrease agent talk time by 40% with their intelligent IVR system. The
Genesys IVR system comparable to the Mitel and Siemens IVR systems, which also scored high
marks as well however Genesys edges out the other two in the other categories. Computer telephony
integration is feature that is also very important for the IP PBX system to support. CTI allows
employees or agents to use their computer to initiate and manage calls. It also allows the computer to
direct calls to the right department. The Genesys SoundBite CTI Connect platform has several features

Leadership Styles With Personal Leadership Style
Leadership
Leadership is a vital part of the business environment because it entails of giving direction to member
in order to accomplish a common goal. Leadership styles are important aspects of an organization
because certain techniques are more effective in different situations. When leadership is effective, then
the outcomes are positive and desired goals are attained. This paper will explore the different
leadership styles with reference to my own personal leadership style. It will give reasons why a
participative style works best in the healthcare profession.
Leadership Styles
There are four types of leadership styles that describe the amount of interaction a leader has to its
members. The leadership styles include autocratic, consultative and participative and free rein leaders
(Lamberton Minor, 2014). Autocratic is a leadership style that has the leader as the dictator giving
direction to members to follow. The group members are expected to follow the orders without inquiry
and focus on task completion. This style leaves little room for individual development among its
members however, can be effective in situations that demands strong leadership such as in crisis
situations. Consultative leadership style involves having the leader spend a decent amount of time
conferring with other members on ways to tackle the situation. Under this leadership, tasks are
delegated to the proper individuals with the right skill set fit for job. The focus is on

Mummy Research Paper
Ancient Egyptians were very religious people with various beliefs and gods. Ancient Egypt consisted
of the Old Kingdom, the Middle Kingdom, and the New Kingdom. Not only is Ancient Egypt known
for their outstanding architecture in pyramids, but also, their astonishing understanding of the human
body. Historians know this because of mummies that were discovered. Mummification began around
c.3500 BCE and by the Old Kingdom it had become a standard practice. Mummification and almost
everything Egyptians did had to do with their religious beliefs, they followed rituals to please the gods
and receive something in exchange. They believed that mummifying a body was preparing that person
for their afterlife. The process of mummification becomes more ... Show more content on

When the dead reach the Hall of Truths their innocence is confirmed. God Osiris makes the judgement
about their destination based off this. It was a way for Egyptians to clean their solul. If they were
guilty to one question then they were not innocent. A piece of the questions they had to answer goes as
follows; excerpt 1600 1500 BCE The Declaration of Innocence in the book of the dead: I have not
done crime against people, I have not mistreated cattle,I have not known what should not be known, I
did not begin a day by exacting more than my due, I have not blasphemed a god,I have not robbed the
poor... Parts of the soul were given names, the most important goes as follows. Khat meant the
physical body , Ka is ones double form, and Ba is an aspect that can roam between Earth and the
Heavens. The Ka and the Ba were believed that they were two entitities that left the body. The Ka
partook of the food offering and could occupy the mummified body. The Ba was able to leave the
tomb to travel outdoors and could return at night. In order for Ba to continue its existence it needs two
things. One is preservation, hence Mastabas and pyramids. Secondly, security of the body, which is
why the body is mummified and

In a year, he has turned America against him. He is the most unpopular president American has ever seen. At a year only 39% approve of Donald Trump and what he is doing makes him the lowest in approval rating ever seen. This is because he had the lowest approval rating when he came into office in January of 2017. John Cole has been a political cartoonist for the Time Tribune since April of 2005. In the political cartoon Shadow of the Truth demonstrates how Donald Trump declares he is not a racist, but he turns around and says something or post something on social media that is racist. The first thing that caught my eye was the shadow of Trump which was a silhouette of the Ku Klux Klan also known as the KKK. There are many colors in the picture, but the ones that stand out is the black silhouette and the white words inside it. The black silhouette represents the darkness that is happening every time Trump utters a racist comment. The way species exist is of great complexity as many factors such as: competition and predation play an important role (Chase et al. 2002; Holt 1984; Paine 1966). Ecosystems, communities and populations all face competition between their species. Studies are constantly being done to show how different species survive together or die trying and what is it that they are fighting to survive over. Gause started experimenting on protists to observe their development and observe their survival ability together (Gause). Paramecium can be found in many places: wet areas like lakes and rivers or dry areas such as those of trees and soil. Gause set out to experiment with Paramecium aurelia and Paramecium caudatum to determine if they fit the competitive exclusion theory that he came up with (Gause 1935). The class was given both parameciums to experiment with for the validity of coexistence. The competitive exclusion theory begs the question, can two species coexist together over a resource or will one of them be driven to extinction? Gause may have been the leader to start the protists experiment but he wasn t the only one to question competition. Gill had questioned Gause s theory and decided to do his own research. • 10. The Wife s Lament And The Seafarer Analysis The Similarities of The Wife s Lament and The Seafarer Life away from home can be hard, but imagine what it would be like if it was to a harsh sea or under a giant tree. In the two poems we will be dissecting, you will see how these two different situations have a lot in common. In one of the oldest poems known in the world, The Seafarer was written long by an unknown author. Throughout the poem we see how the man takes his exile emotionally and physically, all the while he sails the sea and world. He goes to other countries and shows how on his missions he sees amazing things, but he expresses how sad he is. In the second poem, The Wife s Lament, a woman is exiled to a cave by her husband, and she goes through all her thoughts and emotions, and she decides to get out her anger and heartbreak for her husband, she curses him while is out at sea. While we go through both of these poems, we will find differences between exiles. In The Seafarer, it isn t known whether the man was exiled, or if he willingly left his home. Throughout the poem you can see the way that the man holds himself together, and how he feels about the people on the land. This the man does not know for whom on land it turns out most favourably, how i, wretched and sorrowful, on the ice cold sea... In this line, we can see that the man is very angry about having to be out at sea. While he is out at sea, he talks about his family back at home that later help us connect The SeaFarer to The Wife s Lament. You can see how the mans actions and words were very Pagen at the beginning of the poem, but slowly transform into Christian values and words change by the end of the poem. This leads many people to believe that the original poem have been translated by high church member, because they were the only ones back then that were educated enough to read and write. If it were translated by a high ranking church member, it is possible that some of it might have been changed. As you move onto the second poem, The Wife s Lament, we look at an exile, through a different person s eyes. When the Wife is still on land, she is still exiled far away to a cave area under a great tree. Although she was not on the seas, she still found ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Persuasive Essay On How To Get A Driver s License Getting my driver s license was a huge milestone in my life. There are a lot of steps to take in order to earn a license. You need to be prepared to drive in a world where rules are an abstract concept, and are rarely applied. Here is the process I went through to obtain my driver s license, and how I barely achieved a goal that was very important to me. Before I could even think about driving myself to school, I had to obtain a learner s permit for 6 months. Most teenagers earn their learner s permit at 15 and a half, their parents give them $365 to go to driving school for 2 weeks, and then they have their license at 16 years old. That was not the case for me. My parents were not as supportive of me nor as excited as most parents would be for their teenagers to get their driver s license. I was unable to earn my permit until I was 16. When the long and torturous 6 months of me driving with my mother were finally over, I simply asked my parents if they could financially help me out with driving school. They never had the money for those kinds of things. That meant it was all up to me to be independent and get a job. At seventeen years old I had enough money to take to the Springfield School of Driving and place a deposit to start my classes. After I finished driving school, I was eager to schedule my driver s exam. August 22, 2017 was a rainy day. At the time, I had never even driven once in the rain. The children are willed by their parents to follow a set religion and adhere completely to its values, beliefs and rules. The Puritan time in America was no different. In fact it was likely the era in which religion and adherence to it was taken the most seriously. The Puritans worship of religion was a dictating factor when it came to laws, customs, and societal actions. In the novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the portrayal and treatment of Hester s daughter, Pearl, in the Puritan society develops the theme that religion is an oppressive system of beliefs that dictates the actions and thoughts of its followers. Ever since her birth, Pearl s behavior has been a bit off relative to the normal Puritan standard. A typical Puritan child would not play as a present day child would. They would mature quickly to help with various chores and other duties that had to be done. Pearl, however, was different. She was described on multiple occasions as being wild as she truly explored her freedom, and let her imagination work freely. This is prevalent where Hawthorne writes about Pearl that, At home, within and around her mother s cottage, Pearl wanted not a wide and various circle of acquaintance. In light of recent events, myself, along with another 31 lucky students across the vicinity of Western Australia had the privilege to become student ambassadors and represent our state for the 100th centenary anniversary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli in Turkey. it was a chance for the current Western Australian youth to manifest pride, respect and honour towards the men and women, families and youth who sacrificed every inch of their soul for the greater prosperity of our nation. Nothing could have prepared us with the marvellous sites of the near vertical cliffs overlooking the pebble Anzac Cove. From the beach, we made our way up Shell Green and into Lone Pine via Artillery Road. It s such an overwhelming sentiment to come into terms with, knowing that only 100 years had passed since our soldiers made the very same hike, only that time, there were neither stairs, nor memorials to mark the horrors that s about to face them. • 22. Shake And Stir By William Shakespeare Shake and Stir Responding Task Shake and Stir Theatre Company is a compelling theatrical voice which aspires to render Shakespeare s plays to appease modern audiences. However, William Shakespeare penned his last play 400 years ago; despite this, his plays and sonnets are as alive today as they were in the 16th and 17th Centuries. Shakespeare s plays still appeal to modern society because of the universality of the dramatic themes love, deceit, political endorsement, honour, ambition and courage humans still experience these emotions which give Shakespeare a foothold in modern times. Shake and Stir sequenced together an array of modified scenes from Shakespeare s most iconic plays, to implore dramatic meaning: Shakespearean text can be rendered to engross modern audiences while maintaining its integrity and Elizabethan charm. Great Shakes is staged in a graveyard, where three year ten students, Betty, Brock and Ben are incarcerated. However, after appearances from several supernaturals, they are returned to their everyday lives, but not before they manipulate Shakespeare s tragedies, comedies and histories to engage contemporary audiences. It is evident, Shake and Stir s production, Great Shakes effectively conveyed the dramatic meaning of Shakespeare s relevance in contemporary society. This was made explicit through; the re contextualization of the historical context, utilisation of conventions from modern theatre (cinematic theatre) and Elizabethan theatre. ... • 28. Figurative Language In The Hunted Oak And The Lynching The poems by Paul Dunbar and Claude McKay both use figurative language in the poems the The Hunted Oak and The Lynching . The ways that they talk about it are completely different and invoke different feeling out of you as both writers wanted to talk about an important issue. The hunted oak was written in 1913 and The Lynching was written in 1920 so this tells us that it was a prominent issue at the time. Each author used different literary devices to convey their feelings and to express themselves. Their perception of terror is the same for both but how the convey it is different. The poems are meant to have a sense of terror and fright. The genre of the poem The Hunted Oak is drama because the author let s all the characters speak throughout the poem. The subject of this poem is that there is a lynching going on and the tree is affected by the actions. The theme of this poem is that terror but not to a person but to thing. There was a lot of forms of diction in this poem. For example, there was connotation when he said And why, when I go through the shade you throw runs a shudder over me (Dunbar). That line also gave the reader imagery by using the word shudder, a person can physically see someone physically shuddering. The tone of this poem was a somber one. It just gives the reading bad feeling for the tree at the end of the poem. This poem is unique because it is told from the tree s perspective. Dunbar gave the tree feelings, this can be seen here I feel the rope against my bark against my bark . The theme of the poem is terror because the tree has conveyed emotions that make it seems that he was emotionally scarred by this event. This can be seen in the line For I feel his curse as a haunted bough on the trunk of a haunted tree . Also, the way that the tree describes the event as a whole brings a sense of terror. For example, in the line I feel in the throne of his final woe the touch of my own pain. This not say that the victim who is being lynched is taking his last breath so does the tree. This also can be perceived that the tree and the victim are interconnected, as their souls both leave the earth at the same time. Interpretation and Analysis of Wallace Stevens The Snow Man The Snow Man by Wallace Stevens is a poem which creates a unique dramatic situation through an effective imagery, and which compels the reader to employ another way of thinking in order to both understand the poem and realize its very theme. The first thing that is noticeable about the poem is that it is actually just one long, complex sentence. There is no rhyme, and there is no particular meter. Each foot varies: the poem becomes a combination of iambs ( the frost, and not, the sound, that is ), trochees ( winter, glitter, ), anapests ( to regard, to behold, of the land ), dactyls ( junipers ), and others that are not of those kind ( that is blowing unstressed, unstressed, stressed, unstressed). In this, the poem uses sound of the short i in an assonance to support this idea of something so distant that it is almost not there. The second group contains multiple instances of the word sound, as well as the words listener and listen. And there also is the prevailing sibilant sound of s misery, sound, leaves, same, listener, listens, and snow which mimics the hissing sound of the wind...that is blowing in the same bare place. It is clear, therefore, that these lines aim to appeal to the reader s sense of hearing. What this grouping achieves is the recognition of the process that one goes through in leaving behind his own mind and assuming another s mind, in this case that of the snow man. • 32. Summary Of Happy Like God By Simon Critchley What makes one person feel happy, may not make another person feel the same kind of feeling. All people around the world look at and feel happiness in different ways than others. Happiness is something that is extremely personal and very much varies from person to person. For example, someone who likes thrills and adventures, such as an extrovert, would reach more energy and happiness more than an introvert would. Whereas an introvert, would find more happiness and energy when doing more laid back activities, such as reading a book by a warm window, baking some warm, fresh cookies, or working out indoors on a treadmill or elliptical, instead of going out for a run in a park or having a night on a town, in a loud night club. Everyone knows, at least one, activity in their day to day life that they enjoy or find happiness doing. In Simon Critchley s passage called Happy Like God, Critchley explains how he read a passage that he thought was extraordinary and was good enough to write an essay on. The passage was from Rousseau s final book, Reveries of a Solitary Walker. The passage described the experience of someone floating on a rowboat on Lake of Bienne, next to the writer s native town, in his native country. Critchley explains how he thinks this is the closest description of happiness he can imagine. Ultimately, this would make people assume that Critchley finds most of his happiness from relaxing activities than crazy, loud and overwhelming ones. Critchley further goes on, expressing his thoughts on happiness by saying, Happiness is not quantitative or measurable and it is not the object of any science, old or new. It cannot be gleaned from empirical surveys or programmed into individuals through a combination of behavioral therapy and anti depressants. If it consists in anything, then I think that happiness is this feeling of existence, this sentiment of momentary self sufficiency that is bound up with the experience of time (Critchley 560). What he means by this, is that people learn to be happy by maturity, time and experiences. In the passage, maybe Rousseau likes lying on a boat in the water because perhaps he had a house near a great body of water and would hear the sounds of the waves crashing onto ...
