Ankle Injury
Ankle injuries are on the most common injuries that most athletes have to deal with throughout their
playing career, some research has shown that an ankle sprain is seven times more like to occur than
other injuries. With this being said a lot of coaches require their athletes to either tape or have a brace
on the ankle to prevent the injury from occurring in the first place, however evidence has shown that
the use of an ankle brace does not always prevent the injury from happening. So the question becomes
does the brace impair the athlete to perform at their highest level. In this study they took ten healthy D
3 male athletes, and ten female athletes. They used video analysis to record the kinematics of the

Monaco Essay
Four years ago, AS Monaco FC wanted to enter the elite of Europe. They just spent two years in the
darkness of Ligue 2 and were finally back in France s top division, Ligue 1. They were also filthy rich.
Not only did they want become a Ligue 1 regular and finish top of the table, they wanted to challenge
and compete among the best in Europe. The easiest way to achieve this dream of glory was to follow
the example set by their league rivals, Paris Saint Germain. To do so, all Monaco needed to do was to
spend, spend, and spend a little bit more. Hoping it would bring new riches to their dusty trophy
cabinet and allow them to become a household name it was once in European football, Monaco
understood clearly what to do. The crazy idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manchester United bought the most expensive player in the world, Paul Pogba, not even a year ago,
and are looking doing the exact same thing this upcoming summer. The same summer that Manchester
United announced Pogba was returning to Old Trafford, Juventus bought Gonzalo Higuian for an
Italian football transfer fee. This year, Real Madrid just spent about $50 million on Brazilian
wonderkid Vinicius Junior who is 16 years old. Manchester City also just signed Monaco s Bernardo
Silva for $55 million. Then everyone is after Monaco s 18 year old Kylian Mbappe who will
command more $100 million. These are just a few examples that come to mind. Regardless of age,
although younger being better, clubs will spend whatever it takes for a player because they simply
need his services. Hyperinflation is no doubt part of the reason for the astronomical transfer fees, but
there is also a demand a demand of winning now, which translates to being lazy and hoping buying, or
spending the cash, works out successfully on and off the pitch. And all the big clubs do it. English
giants Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, and soon to be Liverpool do it. French
elites PSG and Italian masters Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Juventus do it. German excellence Bayern
Munich, and Spanish conquistadors Real Madrid, Barcelona, and yes, Atletico Madrid do it

Societies Effects quot;the Love Song of J. Alfred...
Society gives us a set of unspoken rules and regulations that must be abided by or else society
becomes ones own worst enemy; thus is Eliot s message in his poem, The Love Song of J. Alfred
Prufrock. This poem has been given a cynical voice in which Eliot tries to convey his message of
modern society and its expectations. He is in a position in which he knows what the flaws in society
are but does not have the courage or the ability to convey the message to the rest of the people. He
fears what they might say and how they will treat him, will ruin him if he exploits society. Eliot gives
evidence of the mockery society exhibits in line 41: They will say: `How his hair is growing thin!
(775) He knows that there are certain things ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This establishes the theme and thus the tone of the poem. Towards the end of the poem the reader
gains a sense of irony and sarcasm that is expressed within the tone: Till human voices wake us, and
we drown (778). Human voices is supposed to represent a helping hand in which any person in trouble
can be helped by humanity. However, these human voices only cause the person in need to drown in
their words. This is ironic because, as indicated above, humanity is the coexistence of a fellow human
with the help (if necessary and available) of another fellow human when he/she is in need of it.
However, metaphorically speaking, the person in need in the poem (Alfred) only receives negativity
and hostility from society and his fellow men, thus causing him/her to drown in the words of the
human voices. This is the most important set back of society conveyed by Eliot in his poem. It is the
last line in the poem and is the key to the poem. Also, Eliot uses other text such as that, which is in the
lines, But though I have wept and fasted, wept and prayed, Though I have seen my head (grown
slightly bald) brought in upon a platter, I am no prophet and here s no great matter (777); as an
allusion to indicate his inability to convey his message. He explains that even though he has prayed
(perhaps for society) and wept and fasted, he still can not send the true message that has encompassed
himself and his soul.

Art History Graduate Study
I recently attended a collection preview and donor reception in honor of the National Museum of
African American History and Culture s grand opening. I was invigorated by the museum s use of
cultural objects to narrate a people s history. Attending this event only reaffirmed my passion for using
art and material culture to inform new insights. Studying the history of art is a great way to explore the
intersectionalities between art, culture, and identity. At Williams College, I aim to delve further in my
academic pursuits and exploration through the graduate program in Art History.
Past experiences influenced my decision to pursue art history, both academically and professionally.

During my time in the program, I realized that my ultimate career objective required a stronger focus
on the art itself rather than the theory and practice of museum operation. Through attending the Art
History graduate program at Williams, I aim to understand how previous art periods influence recent
works through its cultural or historical references. After reviewing your faculty s areas of
concentration, I am confident that I will receive a comprehensive education, learning to analyze art
and material culture from various perspectives.
Ultimately, I want to work towards extending the definition of art history canon and promote further
understanding of other cultures. Matriculating into the Art History graduate program at Williams will
allow me to assess the intersectionalities that stem from culture, identity, and artistic creation using
contemporary art and non Western art as my initial reference points. The knowledge I obtain, and
contribute, during the program will provide me with a solid base on which I can continue my
academic pursuits at the doctorate level and eventually apply this knowledge in a curatorial or
professorial capacity. I wholeheartedly believe that attending the Williams College Art History
graduate program will equip me with the academic and professional skills I need to succeed and create
a lasting impact in the art history realm.

Rotary Youth Leadership Analysis
The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards has a special place in my heart because I feel that it has truly
changed my life. When I arrived at RYLA for the first time I had no idea what to expect and as I
stepped out of my school s van I was overwhelmed by the amount of excitement in the air but by the
end of the day I was already hooked. After my camper year I knew I had to try to come back as a CIT
and then again as a Chief. Now that I have been able to experience RYLA from all three angles it is
safe to say that it can truly change a young persons life. The meaning of leadership can vary
depending on the person but to me leadership is the way a person, or group, leads a group of people in
a task. Everyone has their own form of leadership but I personally prefer to lead by example as well as
consult with the group before I make a decision. I feel that with this form of leadership I will never be
asking someone to do something that I wouldn t do myself, and it allows for members to become
involved in the decision making. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

An Air Of Superiority And Indifference
A rather snobby looking man entered the large, bustling banquet room with his nose in the air.
Maintaining an air of superiority and indifference, he had hoped to avoid the attention of others as he
made his way to his seat at the great banquet table. As he sat in his seat, the ruby pendant that hung
low from his long neck clinked against his assortment of golden necklaces. Narrowing his eyes, he
carefully scanned the crowd of other attendees and adjusted his fur laced maroon cloak. These oafs
had better get on with it, he thought to himself. Important men and women were making a commotion
in the busy banquet room. Large buffoons argued over inane theories, purple faced and clearly already
drunk; Snotty women gossiped cattily over rumors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s the Thane s wife, you sacks! Do you want your ugly heads to end up on platters? spoke a third
man, promptly halting their foolish tongues. Understanding now that the anxious man was the new
Thane and that the woman to his side was his Lady, he began to devise his plan to charm the new
nobility. The Thane cleared his throat and spoke flatly, You know your own degrees; sit down. At first
and last, the hearty welcome. He seemed as though he had attempted to sound welcoming, but his tone
was nothing short of distracted. As the Lords and Lady settled themselves at the banquet table, the
man watched the Thane with increasing scrutiny. The Thane s unruly hair was banded by a small
crown, seemingly desperate to escape its grasp. His eyes here gray and sullen the eyes of a restless
man. His facial hair was nearly as unkempt as the hair on his head, and his clothes, while undoubtedly
costly, draped awkwardly from the Thane like tattered sheets. The man with the ruby pendant noticed
the hurried nature of the Thane, and watched as he paced the room, haphazardly greeting guests.
Oddly, his eyes darted to the doorway of the banquet hall nervously, as though he was expecting some
horribly unpleasant guest to come bursting into the hall without invitation. In spite of the commotion
that preceded the banquet, the air in the hall was oddly sterile. One of the drunk men had passed out,
the women had little left

Gary Weston Character Analysis
The term of events of the movie August Osage County blew me away. Personally, I think Meryl Streep
is a brilliant actress and the way she takes on a character amazes me. Seeing this film for the first time
in class just reminded me of how great she is on the big screen. Not only was this movie dark and
twisted but so was her family. She played a sick mother suffering from Oral Cancer and a heavy drug
addiction, Violet Weston.
During this movie you encounter love, hate, tragedy, great loss and a lot of anger. This family goes
through many different stages of grief and suffer a tremendous loss when they find out their father,
Beverly passed away. Before his passing you notice how disconnected the family is. Violet and
Beverly had three daughters, Ivy, Barbara and Karen, only one lived nearby and looked after them.
Barbara was married and had a daughter, she had her own problems. Her husband had cheated on her
and left her, although still loving her and telling her he just couldn t be with her anymore. They share a
teenage daughter that is shown in the film who is not having a fun time growing up.
Karen Weston, as described by her family in the movie was never really around. She found happiness
in finding a different man all the time and being far away from home. She was pretty naïve, every man

Music Is A Universal Language
Music is a universal language. Covach and Flory introduce us to the history of rock and roll by saying
rock music was born out of controversy, and its rebellious image has always appealed to music lovers.
As music historians look back on the last century, it is obvious that popular music has always played a
role in the recent development of the Western musical tradition, and rock music in particular has been
popular. Rock has had a profound impact on the world of music in general. ( Covach and Flory 3). The
influence of electric blues was heard in the music of Mexican born guitarist Carlos Santana who
emerged from the San Francisco psychedelic scene in 1969. Santana combined psychedelia with Latin
rhythms and percussion to eventually make him as famous as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Duane
Allman and Jimmy Page (Covach and Flory 311). His music is often referred to as Latin rock.
Carlos Santana was born on July 20, 1947, in Autlan, Jalisco, Mexico. His father was Jose Santana, a
Mariachi Violinist. He taught Carlos how to play the violin at approximately five years old. His
mother, Josefina Barragan, stayed at home raising her seven children while his father traveled as a
musician. At about the age of eight years old Carlos learned to play the guitar. In 1955 the family
moved to Tijuana, Mexico. It was here that Carlos, at a young age, began to play in nightclubs and
bars with local bands. Carlos family later moved to San Francisco, California, but Carlos stayed

What Types Of Education And Certification Must Be...
To begin a new career path, it is necessary to identify the unique characteristics and duties of that
career, what types of education and certification must be acquired, and the traits that someone would
need to succeed in that field. As a step towards a full commitment to become a nutritionist, it is
essential that I continue to assess these important factors and make adjustments to my plan ensuring
that I will reach my professional goals. Nutritionists specialize in analyzing food and how it affects
human health in a variety of ways and can occupy several different health career niches
(Explorehealthcareers.org, 2016). A nutritionist must examine dietary practices and make
recommendations based on an individual s overall health goals. Nutritionists must be able to think in
terms of individuals as well as groups of people. Considerations must be made for diseases and
injuries along with allergies and dietary restrictions. The nutrition professional can concentrate on
consulting, food preparation, counseling, planning, management, and/or education (Kaplan University,
2016). The career outlook is is bright, and as people continue to look for ways to improve their health,
they increasingly become aware of how important nutrition is. The epidemic of obesity in the United
States also illustrates the importance of nutritionists when considering public health and policy.

How Did The Vikings Barbarians
The Vikings are commonly known as barbarians, evil, sometimes even marauders. However, the
Vikings didn t just raid prospering villages or monasteries. They also spent a lot of time exploring
overseas. While the rest of Europe was squabbling over what land belongs to who, the Vikings were
isolated, all alone on their three little peninsulas. This left them plenty of time to expand their
knowledge on ships and navigation. It also led them to bring ships into their culture. Viking long ships
were lean, speedy, lightweight ships that could easily cut through the most vicious waves that the
ocean could throw at them. The Norse people were separated from mainland Europe by the North Sea.
As their nation advanced they built longships and started exploring the ocean. The Viking longboat
was the key to the Vikings success in traveling. (Legends and Chronicles, Paragraph 14). This made
the long ship a very valuable and important asset to the Vikings. The longships were so fast and
nimble, they were great for transportation of soldiers and merchandise. At the time, no other
civilization had been able to achieve such an amazing naval feat. this gave the Vikings a great
advantage over medieval combat, political affairs, and even the trading industry. ... Show more content

A Journey Back Home At Home
A Journey Back Home There is no place like home. These are familiar words I often hear from people
especially from those who are far away from home. They move or migrate to a different place because
of many reasons; it can be a new job, work abroad, or simply to find better opportunity. Canada has
been my home for the last 25 years. Living here gave me independence and the ability to improve
myself. I m lucky to be given the chance to stay and live in this beautiful country. All my four children
were born and raised here. Growing up, I want them to learn about their roots and family heritage. I
and my husband are both Filipinos. At home, they are already exposed to some of the values and traits
of our culture. One summer, we planned a vacation, and I thought what better way to learn, understand
and embrace the Filipino culture? Go visit the country. All of us were excited and looked forward to
this memorable trip back home to my native land, Philippines. Philippines This country was

Philip of Spain, thus; the name Philippines. It is located in Southeast Asia. It is an archipelago

Arguments Against Young Earth Creationism
Creationism View
When one is discovering a personal worldview, it is important to learn about how that perspective
looks for the beginning of time and the end of time. As a Christian, it is especially important to
understand what stance one should take on creationism. Looking at Genesis 1 2, one can see why there
is much controversy amongst the Christian community because there are several different ways one
can interpret these chapters. For example, some people believe the world was created in six 24 hour
days and these individuals are known as Young Earth Creationists. While others know as Old Earth
Creationists, believe that the earth was created over a longer period of time. Overall, the main debate
for the point of view on creationism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On this day, God planted the seeds into the world making His garden. Someone who believes in
Young Earth Creationism would believe that God sped up the process so everything would be
completed within 24 hours. According to Genesis 1:12 it says, the land produced vegetation: plants
bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds.
And God saw that it was good. (NIV). This scripture states that the land produced vegetation which
means that God did not speed up the process of making the vegetation grow faster. Instead God let the
earth do the work of growing. Going on with the argument against Young Earth Creationism would be
to look at the scriptures in Genesis 1:24 31 and Genesis 2:7 8. Here it talks about the sixth day of
creation, on this day animals were created, Adam, and God planted the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:15
states that all the cattle, the birds of the sky, and every beast in the field to Adam to name. God put
Adam to sleep, took a piece from this side and formed Eve. Adam exclaimed, Now at length (NIV). At
length means now at last, indicating that it has been a long period of time that Adam had gone without
Eve. As humans we desire connections with other human beings and we desire love. For Adam to
become lonely within just a few hours would not seem plausible. If we consider a day in time through
the Old Earth Creationism perspective; a single day relates to a thousand years, then it would seem
more plausible that Adam grew lonely during this period. Also, back in the Garden of Eden there were
over ten thousand animals. For Adam to name every single one of them in only a few short hours
would not make sense. (Old Earth

Paulo Freire The Banking Concept Of Education
Paulo Freire believes that the world is primarily dominated by the banking concept in regards to
education. Under the banking concept, Freire describes the relationship between students and teachers
as involv[ing] a narrating Subject (the teacher) and patient, listening objects (the students) (216).
Freire later goes on to symbolize students as empty receptacles awaiting teachers to dump their
knowledge freely to fill the empty spaces. Memorization, obedience, oppression, and dominance all
describe the inner workings of the banking concept. Students lose their ability to become cogitative
thinkers as they memorize lectures, never speak their voice or dissent to teachers, and give all of their
freedom to their professors. Students then become slaves to the classroom, and rather than a symbiotic
relationship existing between students and teachers, the road is very one way. If Freire were to analyze

In section two of the piece, Rodriguez even admits that with many of the books he did not understand
the true meaning. Before closing Section II, Rodriguez states I read in order to acquire a point of view.
I vacuumed books for epigrams, scraps of information, ideas, themes anything to fill the hollow within
me and make me feel educated (350). This points readers in the direction that the banking concept
molds students to be mindless receptacles awaiting dumped knowledge; reading then is used to soak in
the word count and not the actual meaning behind the piece. In The Banking Concept of Education,
Freire makes an interesting point:
The interests of the oppressors lie in changing the consciousness of the oppressed, not the situation
which oppresses them ...the more the oppressed can be led to adapt to that situation, the more easily
they can be dominated

Comparison Of SFBT And Narrative Therapy
Charlene, thank you very much for your discussion on SFBT and Narrative therapy.
You pointed out that with SFBT the client is the expert and this is a key element of SFBT and
developing a strength based therapeutic relationship. I truly enjoyed you addressing that the therapist
is there to guide the client but the client is the one that holds the answers for what is best for them and
how to overcome difficult situations. It is true that SFBT is a goal setting is a key element of the
therapeutic approach. SFBT would describe the clients problems by establishing appropriate
boundaries as a means of expressing ones true self. Desire and self reliance can be regained through
their competence (Bannink, 2007). SFBT is future based that strives for positive moments and

Furthermore, a narrative theoretical approach externalizing the words the client uses. If a client
mentions anxiety as the problem, the therapist would ask the client in what ways does anxiety look
like. Implementing exceptions to the current situation opens the possibilities of a change in the
thought process which alters their narrative story for the future.

Chemical Weathering Lab Report

Chemical Weathering
Background Information
Chemical weathering occurs when the erosion of rocks and the disintegration of rocks are caused by
chemical reactions with water and substances dissolved in it. This can occur in places where rainfall is
common, it occurs more rapidly at higher temperatures. Since high temperatures and damp areas cause
the chemical weathering process to increase, you can infer that chemical weathering occurs more
frequently in the spring.
There are different types of chemical weathering, the three big ones being solution, hydrolysis, and
oxidation. Solution weathering occurs when sulphuric acid in the air mixes with rainwater turning it
into acid rain. This is most common in highly polluted areas such as China which is a very big country
with a lot of cities and rural manufacturing plants. Acidic rain can remove/damage rocks, limestone is
especially vulnerable to weathering by rain water containing CO2. The next type, hydrolysis
weathering, breaks down rocks by acidic water to produce clay and a soluble salt. The only rock not
affected by hydrolysis is quartz. Finally the last type of weathering is the breakdown of rocks by
oxygen and water called oxidation, which makes rocks less resistant ... Show more content on

Hypothesis: If the level of concentration in acidic rainwater rises then a greater amount of dissolving
will happen because a more acidic solution will destroy more chemical bonds in the rock/mineral.
Procedure:

The World Is Not Enough Essay
quot; The World Is Not Enough quot; is a great action adventure movie with exciting stunt scenes,
exotic locations, beautiful women and traditional Bond one liners. Pierce Brosnan carries on the role
of the world s most famous secret agent, James Bond in which was established by Sean Connery in
1962 s quot;Doctor No quot;. Since it is also the 19th installment to the longest running film series in
history, comparing this one to the older movies is like comparing one athlete to another. But hey, I

Only 2 of them? It seems that Brosnan s Bond has become a Jenny Craig follower when it comes to
the number of women that are involved in his life. There seems like a shortage in women in this film
compared to the earlier films.
French actress Sophie Marceau plays Elektra King, who is the daughter of a tycoon who wants to link
his pipeline from the former Soviet controlled areas to Europe. Marceau does an incredible job of
playing her role as Elektra. Especially during the intimate scenes with Bond and with her so called
captor, Renard. Denise Richards is the other Bond girl in this adventure. She plays a nuclear scientist
named Dr.
Christmas Jones. Her performance in the film is ok, but could be better. For the most part, her part
doesn t fit into the film as much as Marceau s character. Basically, she just in the film to kill time and
isn t all that helpful to Bond. She s just eye candy for the film and I think that producers just added her
in the film to bring more people to the theaters. 6.
The earlier James Bond films went by the format of having the lead villain and a henchman as the bad
guys. In this film, two people, Elektra King (spoiler) and Renard share the role of lead villain. Scottish
actor Robert Carlyle plays the character Renard, who was shot in the head by 009. Since the bullet is

Top 3 Things to Reduce the Pain of Chronic Disease
If you re living with a chronic disease, you re living with pain. Chronic diseases like fibromyalgia,
chronic fatigue syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, and Crohn s disease are all functional disorders.
Meaning, they impair your body s ability to function at its best.
Most chronic diseases are caused by autoimmunity and neurological dysfunction.
If you have an autoimmune disease, your immune system mistakes your body s own healthy tissues
for foreign invaders and destroys them. If your condition is neurological, your nervous system doesn t
communicate correctly with the rest of your body.

Make Meditation a Priority
Meditation is a simple practice of relaxation that increases mindfulness (being in the moment),
decreases stress, and helps the body heal itself (http://itoldyouiwassick.info/2015/02/13/how

Meditation is a great way to reduce the pain of chronic disease without the side effects of prescription
and over the counter drugs. It can be done virtually anywhere with no special equipment or
instructions.
According to a study published in The Journal of Pain, older adults who struggled with chronic low
back pain reported a decrease in pain, improved quality of life, better sleep, and an increased sense of
well being as a direct result of regular meditation.
A study published in the Journal of Psychosomatic Research revealed that patients with arthritis and
chronic back/neck pain experienced a significant decrease in pain intensity and functional limitations
after practicing mindfulness based stress reduction techniques.
No matter how long you ve been living with a chronic disease, it is never too late to heal. By doing

Ambiguity In Dubious Battle
Ambiguity is defined as the quality of being open to more than one interpretation. In fiction, it leads
readers to consider various conclusions and provokes them to go beyond the text itself. In Dubious
Battle exemplifies this. John Steinbeck ensures that every character, every conflict, and every theme
incorporates some form of ambiguity. Not only does this provoke the reader to think beyond the socio
economic problems directly expressed within the text, but it also sparks questions regarding the main
purpose of writing the novel. Steinbeck achieves this by giving insight regarding the ambiguous nature
of the characters themselves. For example, it is never clear who the protagonist is due to the vague
nature of both Mac and Jim. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Doc perfectly characterizes this by suggesting that Mac is an actor (66). Mac, quickly rebuts by stating
that his speech has a kind of feel to it, to imply he does not try to do it (66). Nonetheless, by
implementing Mac within certain important scenes of the stories, Steinbeck always gives the
impression that Mac is the master orchestrator at every turn, and further showing that he would
sacrifice anyone to reach his ambitions. As a result, his ambiguous nature is essential to follow in
order to foreshadow any new development that occurs throughout the plot line. Any individual would
follow Mac s lead because of how he framed himself to be an altruistic person. Moreover, his ability
to dictate both London and Dakin throughout the story demonstrates his ability to lead behind the
scenes. All of these examples suggest how Mac is the protagonist within the story and he was the
central character to analyze and understand. This was the thought process that carries through until the
shift of balance in power between Mac and Jim. Mac s body and muscles shuddered, after he had
beaten the kid to send a message regarding tampering with the strike (214). He invokes violence once
again in order to rile up the workers, but this time, it struck something inside of him, leaving his face
pale and grey (214). He and London were both taken by what transpires, but the one individual who

What Are The Causes Of The Second Industrial Revolution
The second Industrial Revolution was responsible for evoking great change in the United States of
America. It was a time when the very fabric of America was being redesigned and improved upon.
Populations were beginning to gravitate towards large urban areas, such as New York and
Philadelphia, and the economy was becoming more industrial based. Farming was becoming less of a
priority, as more Americans became determined to find factory jobs. The country was beginning to
modernize. The introduction of big business and labor unions was able to revolutionize The United

which all wraps up under youth violence. Each of these topics is also different from one another

W H Auden On A Tyrant Essay
The W.H. Auden of the 1930s is quite a different man compared to his to his 1940s counterpart. Not
only did his personal viewpoints and opinions dramatically change, but his but the subjects of his

However, while the subject matter of Auden s work changes, his poems consistently forcing the

As time went on, Auden gradually distanced himself from his political poems. He felt that they were
inherently dishonest, and comprised the integrity of the relationship between reader and poet by
forcing the reader to accept only one interpretation of a political event: the poet s own personal
opinion. Coupled with Auden s increasing personal spirituality, this caused the focus of his poems to
shift from politics to religion and morality. He was an observant Christian, though he only practices
the aspects of the faith that focused on betterment of mankind. He felt that like church doctrines, like
all human creations, were subject to judgment (Mendelson). This opinion is especially prominent in
his poem Victor . His protagonist had been raised in a devoutly religious environment. Throughout his
life, Victor continues to live according to the rules and regulation laid forth in the Bible. Auden uses
the concept of time as an extended metaphor to relay Victor s emotional state. As a young man in
frosty December , there is no life around Victor, and everything is bleak. His life bears no color, much
like the cold winter itself; he has his strict religious rules and nothing more. However, the deep cold
begins to slowly ebb away as April comes around. Winter concedes to spring as the beautiful Anna
brings life and vibrancy to Victor s previously barren world. He immediately falls for her, as she

Second language acquisition has long been the focus of linguists and researchers in the teaching field.
It highlights the process and theories of acquiring second languages among learners. Second language

Persuasive Essay About Teen Pregnancy
Teen pregnancy......what comes in mind when you hear the words Teen Pregnancy ? Well, teen
pregnancy are young female girls that become pregnant under the age of 20. A female can become
pregnant from having sexual intercourse and after she have started to ovulate. Young female girls will
become pregnant without even thinking about the consequences and the type of environment the baby
will be in. Not because the young mother is poor or rich, but because they re not ready to take care of
another human being. Not to mention, pregnant teens are young themselves, so their also growing.
There are plenty of problems that are the cause of teen pregnancy, and many of those problems can be
solved.
One reason for teen pregnancy is the lack of information that is given to students in middle and high
school about sex and how to prevent it from happening. Also, the lack amount of talks from parents
that they can give to their teen. I wouldn t say there isn t any education given out to students about
sex, but there isn t ENOUGH to make pre teens and teens to fully understand and have the right mind
set about sex. Many schools won t really focus on the topic about teen pregnancy because it really
doesn t have much about academics and that s really understandable, but at the end of the day teens
are also human and do make mistakes. I believe schools should give education about teen pregnancy
as much as the other subjects. The topic of teen pregnancy shouldn t be left out because talking to
your teen about sex can definitely influence their lifestyle. Many teens would learn about sex in the
streets which it totally horrible because 9/10, the streets will educate them to have sex rather than not
to. The solution to this problem is that parents and schools should educate their teens/students with
more education about teen pregnancy, so that the number pregnant teens can decrease in near future.
Another reason for teen pregnancy is social media. Social media can have a huge impact on how teens
can view their lives by influencing them with a different kind of lifestyle. Not to mention, teens can
easily be brainwashed by what they see on there and think what they see on social media is good, is
actually wrong. Social media will have

The Free Trade Agreement
The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as well as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
were failures. The North American Free Trade Agreement was one of the most controversial
documents of the 20th century, beginning January 1st 1988.1 The reason it was so controversial was
because it was loved in some ways yet hated in others. One of the reasons why the FTA and NAFTA
were failures is due to the fact that Prime Minister Brian Mulroney lost a lot of votes caused by the
amount of voters that disapproved of the FTA and NAFTA. Another reason the FTA and NAFTA were
failures is because the agreement did not improve the amount of full time jobs in Canada, which was
one of the reasons that the FTA and NAFTA was created in the first place. The final reason the deal
failed was because the deal was supposed to improve productivity around Canada but really did
nothing. The FTA and NAFTA were failures because it only helped a small handful of Canadians and
hindered many more.
The first main reason why the FTA and NAFTA were failures was because of the popularity Prime
Minister Brian Mulroney lost. Mulroney was elected into government in 1984 with the biggest
election win in Canadian history. When he was re elected in 1988, it gave Mulroney the go ahead with

Dragons In J. R. Tolkien s The Hobbit
What does the word dragon mean to us? Generally, if one is asked this question, the response would
be unintelligent dangerous weapons of destruction . However, this is not the case in J.R.R Tolkien s
The Hobbit , nor is it true for the early mythology of dragons. Instead, this modern definition is
replaced with one of, greedy, intelligent beings with human characteristics . Hence, a question arises
as to why the image of dragons has been drastically downgraded throughout literature? To answer this
question, I will first begin by isolating passages from Tolkien s The Hobbit in an attempt to describe
certain features of Smaug the magnificent. Afterwards, I will partake in exemplifying the written style
of dragons in the history of literature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Traditional dragons were portrayed when the certain writers have been able to preserve the wonder of
the creatures. Whereas, modern dragons are illustrated when select stories have implemented new
components that have served as counter productive as depicted by the Harry Potter series which
relegates the true plot potential of these beasts. Additionally, these modern dragons tend to be
obstacles for the main hero to overcome, which is a stark contrast from the traditional dragons.
Therefore, for what reason have writers decided to downgrade the beasts? Unerman (2002) puts forth
the belief that fictional evil is more convincing and more frightening when people, not dragons, are
the true enemy (pg. 100). In addition, another argument could be made in that dragons such as Smaug
will overshadow the main human villain, therefore, by downgrading the beasts to simple plot
obstacles, it allows for the dragons not to overshadow the main villain, and I cannot accept either
argument. Suggesting that humanity allows for more engaging villains is absurd, considering that the
simple task of personifying a dragon in Smaug made for one of the greatest, psychologically
complicated, and utmost captivating villain in all of literature. Nonetheless, one may argue that
Tolkien s Smaug serves as the same purpose as a dragon in the Harry Potter series; a plot obstacle that
cause destruction. Granted that this notion may appear plausible, it proves false in terms of

Informative Essay
Make a Difference
Throughout time there have been many people who have wanted to enact change or make a difference.
Cesar Chavez helped migrant farmers with their unsafe work conditions and their lack workers rights.
Mother Jones marched for children s rights and to create child labor laws. Van Jones is fighting for
human rights currently. These people all did amazing things and all fought for a singular
purpose.Cesar Chavez, Mother Jones, and Van Jones all helped fight to enact change, by making
people notice their cause and by having the perseverance to keep fighting for others to have better
lives.
Cesar Chavez fought for other migrant farmers because he had experienced what they were
experiencing, and thought he should make a difference when Chavez started leading the UFW, United
Farm Workers, is when his movement really started. Lots of things happened during Chavez s
childhood At age 11, his family lost their farm during the Great Depression and became migrant farm
workers (Cesar Chavez Foundation). That is the main reason for why Chavez noticed the issues that
were surfacing with workers, this is what got him into the farms. Cesar taught many unforgettable
lessons Cesar learned and taught others how commitment and sacrifice can set you free from the
constraints imposed by depending entirely on money and material things (Cesar Chavez Foundation).
The citation shows how Cesar made a big impact on others even if only teaching them. Cesar did

What is clear is that a cultural shift has occurred in the industry, which has seen land based casino
gaming become somewhat passé in the eyes of many. This is because the industry is now experiencing
a strong cultural shift from the real life tables to the digital domain. Online casino gaming is now big
business in the UK and throughout Europe. More numbers are now seemingly looking to opt to
gamble from the comfort of their home rather than venture out to a land based casino. This current
downturn in the use of brick and mortar casinos is no more prevalent than it is in Blackpool, as the
once mega popular Sam Tai Casino is now downsizing due to lack of business. This in many ways is
what has triggered the turn against the Middlesbrough Super Casino

Ovid s Metamorphoses
What can be sweeter than a mother s unconditional love? In most nuclear families, the family
members interact with each other to support and construct a home with values of love and prosperity.
However, not every home can be categorized as loving and bountiful as certain circumstances can
cause an unfortunate crisis that impacts family members to change how they perceive one another.
Revenge, being an approach to handle some circumstances, is a very common topic in Greek
mythology which, leads the characters to take justice into their own hands by any means necessary to
restore their honor. In Ovid s poem the Metamorphoses, tales of grandeur and unpleasant fates are
retold in sequence, revealing heroic people, lessons, and origins from stories ... Show more content on

In the tale Tereus, Procne, and Philomela , Tereus betrays Procne by raping and then mutilating the
tongue of her sister, Philomela, causing Procne to seek revenge from Tereus. Although her method of
revenge consists of killing her son Itys and feeding his flesh to Tereus, the sisters reach their end when
Philomela becomes a swallow and Procne becomes a nightingale. Sacrificing Itys was not an easy task
for Procne as her excess of maternal love (216) in which, Ovid intentionally phrases it with excess , to
augment her compassion for him that softens the reader s heart and makes the act of her killing him
much more moving. However, her mood quickly changes from ... her unwilling eyes were suddenly
full of hot tears that she could not control...felt her sense of purpose falter... (216) to ...[Itys] cries out
Mother! reaching for her neck, as Procne drives the blade into his side and does not turn away (217)
Ovid s purpose of using the word and phrase unwilling and does not turn away is to describe her
conflicting feelings of humanity towards Itys as she experiences brief inner turmoil by debating on
sacrificing him though, that does not stop her for what she feels is necessary to do as he looks at him
in the eyes while committing the dreadful deed. As mentioned earlier, one might argue and say that

Essay Justifying the War the in Iraq
Justifying the War the in Iraq Early last year, the latest Gulf War broke out, and, within weeks, British
and American leaders claimed that peace would prevail: that the fighting had ended. More than six
months after the end of the war , soldiers, and Iraqis, are still dying. What went wrong? Was Bush
lying all along, or did he just make a mistake? I think that the answer to this question is obvious: Bush
and Blair, or Bliar , as anti war campaigners call him, have lying to us all along. Before the war, the
UN vetoed the war, until such time as there was any proof that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass
destruction. Bush and Blair, however, decided to ignore the clearly superior views of ... Show more

One of Bush s main excuses for the war was that Saddam and broken too many laws. However, it is
quite obvious that he was just being greedy, and was doing for the money. Also, the State of Israel has
broken just as many UN laws. Has America waged war against them, in support of Palestine? No. In
fact, quite the opposite! Britain and America have been freely selling arms to Israel, knowing that they
would be used against Palestinians. (Therefore, we in Britain should, no, must boycott Israeli and
American goods (Israeli goods have a bar code beginning with 0810).) What has been gained by this
war? The answer is nothing. At least, nothing positive: At least twenty thousand Iraqi civilians have
been injured, and the Iraqi death toll is estimated to be between eight and ten thousand! The UN s
word about permission for a legal war now counts for nothing: having ignored it once, why will
Britain and America bother obeying it in the future? And this war has cost billions of dollars. Only a
week and a half ago George Bush put forward another six billion dollars! And that is English billions,
not American, so that is $6,000,000,000,000! And then, having lied to us, and gone against what, we,
the population wanted, Blair invited over his play mate to Britain. But, of

The Positive And Negative Effects Of Altruism
Suppose a reader is reading a mystery novel and he is close to completing the book; however, it is
very late at night and he has to wake up early the next morning. He has two options: he can finish the
book, fulfill his desire to know who killed the victim, and not get the proper amount of sleep he needs,
or he can go to sleep, receive plenty of rest, feel refreshed the next morning, and wait until that
evening to finish the novel. He would be altruistic to his body and his health if he went to bed early;
however, he would be selfish to his body if he stayed up and finished the novel (Le Morvan).
Altruism, which has both positive and negative effects, is a controversial character trait; however, it
ultimately promotes compassion for the human race and help for the ecosystem.
In a world where altruism exists, selfishness exists as well (Le Morvan). Selfishness is when a person
puts his or her interests before other people s interests, and altruism is when a person puts other people
s interests before his or her own interests (Le Morvan). Martin Luther King believed with all of his
heart and soul that every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in
the darkness of destructive selfishness (Soosai Nathan). People have a choice to help others or to help
themselves, and their decisions can either be helpful or destructive, altruistic or selfish. According to
numerous studies, different environmental and circumstantial factors affect how a

Benefits For Part Time Workers
Case Study 3:
Benefits for Part Time Workers
Ken Davis
Liberty University
Introduction In this weeks case we have Jackson, Smith and Henderson (JSH) Certified Public
Accountants (CPA) one of the fastest growing CPA firms in the area. The firm has just under 100
employees (Martocchio, 2015, p.260) of which two have requested part time statues. The firm had
already considered hiring additional part time workers, consequently the firm need to make a Human
Resource (HR) decision, to decide when and should the company extend the benefits to part time
workers. Therefore, understanding what the Employment and Labor Laws prior to the offering of
extended benefits to part time employees should be the first place to start ... Show more content on

When a company is deciding to make an innovative change or extended benefits to part time
employees, strict compliance is required according to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the
U.S. Department of Labor (Martocchio, 2015). Tiffani Clement (2011) published an article, Does my
business have to provide part time employees with benefits? she writes about the required benefits that
employers must extend to part time employees. For instance, newly added HR Director Alan Jones
must address whether or not his company can afford to offer extended benefits to part time employees.
Three Factors for Consideration Bearing in mind some firms are hiring interims, staffing services and
part time employees through temp agencies. It is no surprise in this case that a recent compensation
survey of business in the local geographical area included information about benefits (Martocchio,
2015). Part time employment are more readily available because it is considered hidden
unemployment, says, Chris Tilly, a professor at UCLA, for instance, if a person works 20 hours a
week, but wants 40 hours, that unfulfilled time is spent unemployed (Gillespie, 2015). Utilizing the
prior options above can save the company money, plus some part time employees are hired at the
entrance level pay, therefore saving the company certain work benefits. Although, the company may
utilize the services of a staffing service and or temp agency,

American Society on the Change during the Post World War Years
After World War II, Americans experienced a time of rapid social change. American soldiers were
discharged and returned home from the battlefields, hoping to find work and to get on with their lives.
Marriage rate increased dramatically after the war. North American population experienced what is
known as the Baby boom an 18 year period of rapid population growth from 1946 to 1964. During this
period, many children were born than in the same period before or after. During the post war years, the
United States embarked on one of its greatest periods of economic expansion. Many Americans had
enjoyed economic prosperity. However, the United States has changed since 1950. ... Show more

These includes changes in social levels over time, death rates, economic conditions and laws the no
fault divorce laws, the reduction in fertility and the legalization of abortion increased the divorce rates
in the 1980s. However, scholars believe that the single most important social change which made
divorce possible was the increase in the employment of women and the economic independence that
employment provided. For nearly all decades, the lifetime probability of divorce for women of all ages
has been increasing. For women born in 1920, the likelihood of divorce by age 55 was 27 percent.
This same level of divorce was reached at a much younger age (age 30) for women born in 1950. At
least 40 percent of young adult women are likely to divorce. 16 percent are likely to divorce twice if
current divorce rates continue. In Document 1, in the 1990s and 2000s, divorce rates appear to decline
slightly. In the meantime, suburban population was growing and shifting during the post war years.
Baby boomers brought much prosperity as they grew up and entered the work force. With so many
people working and making a better living, growing families needed more room. Millions of
Americans were leaving the cities for the suburbs. The growth of the suburbs after 1945 was due
mainly to the large number of new homes financed by the G1 Bill which gave them low interest rate
mortgages to purchase new homes. Tax deductions also made the move from urban areas to the
suburbs

Ritual Observation Of The Amida Buddha
Ritual Description
For my ritual observation I took part in a Jodo Buddhist Sunday service at *******. The temple
visited is located in West Los Angele. As I entered the temple I was immediately greeted by a woman
and her husband. I explained my reasoning for attending the service, and they were happy to guide me
through the service step by step. A we entered the Hando (main Hall) my attention was immediately
drawn to what is known as the Amida Buddha. The Amida Buddha is the Buddha of wisdom and
compassion. On the left of the statue sat an alter with lit candles and floral decorations along the
edges. In the center of the alter sat a single scroll. Within the scroll was the Nembutsu written in
Japanese. The Nembutsu or the Nemu Amida Butsu is something to be recited in the form of Buddhist
incantation and recitation used as a form of meditation. On the right side of the statue was a picture of
Shinran Shonin, the founder of Jodo Buddhism. I was handed a service book and a program that had

Darwin s Theory Of Natural Selection, Questions And Answers
1) Some reasons why beaks were thought to be so useful for testing Darwin s theory of natural
selection was because it seemed that the more favorable variations in their beaks will be passed down.
Another reason was because there were more variations in the beaks depending what the finches ate so
he could study a variety of beaks. 2) Yes, his finches were considered to be a good example of natural
selection. The size of the finch and the size of its beak are highly heritable from one generation to the
next and with the population of these birds it was easier to examine natural selection happening
through these birds. 3) His experiment was supposed to test the question of nature versus nurture, if he

  • 2. Ankle Injury Ankle injuries are on the most common injuries that most athletes have to deal with throughout their playing career, some research has shown that an ankle sprain is seven times more like to occur than other injuries. With this being said a lot of coaches require their athletes to either tape or have a brace on the ankle to prevent the injury from occurring in the first place, however evidence has shown that the use of an ankle brace does not always prevent the injury from happening. So the question becomes does the brace impair the athlete to perform at their highest level. In this study they took ten healthy D 3 male athletes, and ten female athletes. • 4. Monaco Essay Four years ago, AS Monaco FC wanted to enter the elite of Europe. They just spent two years in the darkness of Ligue 2 and were finally back in France s top division, Ligue 1. They were also filthy rich. Not only did they want become a Ligue 1 regular and finish top of the table, they wanted to challenge and compete among the best in Europe. The easiest way to achieve this dream of glory was to follow the example set by their league rivals, Paris Saint Germain. To do so, all Monaco needed to do was to spend, spend, and spend a little bit more. Hoping it would bring new riches to their dusty trophy cabinet and allow them to become a household name it was once in European football, Monaco understood clearly what to do. The crazy idea ... Manchester United bought the most expensive player in the world, Paul Pogba, not even a year ago, and are looking doing the exact same thing this upcoming summer. The same summer that Manchester United announced Pogba was returning to Old Trafford, Juventus bought Gonzalo Higuian for an Italian football transfer fee. This year, Real Madrid just spent about $50 million on Brazilian wonderkid Vinicius Junior who is 16 years old. Manchester City also just signed Monaco s Bernardo Silva for $55 million. Then everyone is after Monaco s 18 year old Kylian Mbappe who will command more $100 million. These are just a few examples that come to mind. Regardless of age, although younger being better, clubs will spend whatever it takes for a player because they simply need his services. Hyperinflation is no doubt part of the reason for the astronomical transfer fees, but there is also a demand a demand of winning now, which translates to being lazy and hoping buying, or spending the cash, works out successfully on and off the pitch. And all the big clubs do it. English giants Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, and soon to be Liverpool do it. • 7. Societies Effects quot;the Love Song of J. Alfred... Society gives us a set of unspoken rules and regulations that must be abided by or else society becomes ones own worst enemy; thus is Eliot s message in his poem, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. This poem has been given a cynical voice in which Eliot tries to convey his message of modern society and its expectations. He is in a position in which he knows what the flaws in society are but does not have the courage or the ability to convey the message to the rest of the people. He fears what they might say and how they will treat him, will ruin him if he exploits society. Eliot gives evidence of the mockery society exhibits in line 41: They will say: `How his hair is growing thin! (775) He knows that there are certain things ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This establishes the theme and thus the tone of the poem. Towards the end of the poem the reader gains a sense of irony and sarcasm that is expressed within the tone: Till human voices wake us, and we drown (778). Human voices is supposed to represent a helping hand in which any person in trouble can be helped by humanity. However, these human voices only cause the person in need to drown in their words. This is ironic because, as indicated above, humanity is the coexistence of a fellow human with the help (if necessary and available) of another fellow human when he/she is in need of it. However, metaphorically speaking, the person in need in the poem (Alfred) only receives negativity and hostility from society and his fellow men, thus causing him/her to drown in the words of the human voices. This is the most important set back of society conveyed by Eliot in his poem. It is the last line in the poem and is the key to the poem. Also, Eliot uses other text such as that, which is in the lines, But though I have wept and fasted, wept and prayed, Though I have seen my head (grown slightly bald) brought in upon a platter, I am no prophet and here s no great matter (777); as an allusion to indicate his inability to convey his message. He explains that even though he has prayed (perhaps for society) and wept and fasted, he still can not send the true message that has encompassed himself and his soul. ... I was invigorated by the museum s use of cultural objects to narrate a people s history. Attending this event only reaffirmed my passion for using art and material culture to inform new insights. Studying the history of art is a great way to explore the intersectionalities between art, culture, and identity. • 9. Rotary Youth Leadership Analysis The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards has a special place in my heart because I feel that it has truly changed my life. When I arrived at RYLA for the first time I had no idea what to expect and as I stepped out of my school s van I was overwhelmed by the amount of excitement in the air but by the end of the day I was already hooked. After my camper year I knew I had to try to come back as a CIT and then again as a Chief. Now that I have been able to experience RYLA from all three angles it is safe to say that it can truly change a young persons life. The meaning of leadership can vary depending on the person but to me leadership is the way a person, or group, leads a group of people in a task. Everyone has their own form of leadership but I personally prefer to lead by example as well as consult with the group before I make a decision. I feel that with this form of leadership I will never be asking someone to do something that I wouldn t do myself, and it allows for members to become involved in the decision making. ... Maintaining an air of superiority and indifference, he had hoped to avoid the attention of others as he made his way to his seat at the great banquet table. As he sat in his seat, the ruby pendant that hung low from his long neck clinked against his assortment of golden necklaces. Narrowing his eyes, he carefully scanned the crowd of other attendees and adjusted his fur laced maroon cloak. These oafs had better get on with it, he thought to himself. The Thane cleared his throat and spoke flatly, You know your own degrees; sit down. At first and last, the hearty welcome. He seemed as though he had attempted to sound welcoming, but his tone was nothing short of distracted. As the Lords and Lady settled themselves at the banquet table, the man watched the Thane with increasing scrutiny. The Thane s unruly hair was banded by a small crown, seemingly desperate to escape its grasp. His eyes here gray and sullen the eyes of a restless man. His facial hair was nearly as unkempt as the hair on his head, and his clothes, while undoubtedly costly, draped awkwardly from the Thane like tattered sheets. The man with the ruby pendant noticed the hurried nature of the Thane, and watched as he paced the room, haphazardly greeting guests. Oddly, his eyes darted to the doorway of the banquet hall nervously, as though he was expecting some horribly unpleasant guest to come bursting into the hall without invitation. In spite of the commotion that preceded the banquet, the air in the hall was oddly sterile. One of the drunk men had passed out, the women had little left ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Gary Weston Character Analysis The term of events of the movie August Osage County blew me away. Personally, I think Meryl Streep is a brilliant actress and the way she takes on a character amazes me. Seeing this film for the first time in class just reminded me of how great she is on the big screen. Not only was this movie dark and twisted but so was her family. She played a sick mother suffering from Oral Cancer and a heavy drug addiction, Violet Weston. During this movie you encounter love, hate, tragedy, great loss and a lot of anger. This family goes through many different stages of grief and suffer a tremendous loss when they find out their father, Beverly passed away. Before his passing you notice how disconnected the family is. Violet and Beverly had three daughters, Ivy, Barbara and Karen, only one lived nearby and looked after them. Barbara was married and had a daughter, she had her own problems. Her husband had cheated on her and left her, although still loving her and telling her he just couldn t be with her anymore. They share a teenage daughter that is shown in the film who is not having a fun time growing up. Karen Weston, as described by her family in the movie was never really around. • 12. Music Is A Universal Language Music is a universal language. Covach and Flory introduce us to the history of rock and roll by saying rock music was born out of controversy, and its rebellious image has always appealed to music lovers. As music historians look back on the last century, it is obvious that popular music has always played a role in the recent development of the Western musical tradition, and rock music in particular has been popular. Rock has had a profound impact on the world of music in general. ( Covach and Flory 3). The influence of electric blues was heard in the music of Mexican born guitarist Carlos Santana who emerged from the San Francisco psychedelic scene in 1969. Santana combined psychedelia with Latin rhythms and percussion to eventually make him as famous as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Duane Allman and Jimmy Page (Covach and Flory 311). His music is often referred to as Latin rock. Carlos Santana was born on July 20, 1947, in Autlan, Jalisco, Mexico. His father was Jose Santana, a Mariachi Violinist. He taught Carlos how to play the violin at approximately five years old. His mother, Josefina Barragan, stayed at home raising her seven children while his father traveled as a musician. At about the age of eight years old Carlos learned to play the guitar. In 1955 the family moved to Tijuana, Mexico. It was here that Carlos, at a young age, began to play in nightclubs and bars with local bands. Carlos family later moved to San Francisco, California, but Carlos stayed ... • 13. What Types Of Education And Certification Must Be... To begin a new career path, it is necessary to identify the unique characteristics and duties of that career, what types of education and certification must be acquired, and the traits that someone would need to succeed in that field. As a step towards a full commitment to become a nutritionist, it is essential that I continue to assess these important factors and make adjustments to my plan ensuring that I will reach my professional goals. Nutritionists specialize in analyzing food and how it affects human health in a variety of ways and can occupy several different health career niches (Explorehealthcareers.org, 2016). A nutritionist must examine dietary practices and make recommendations based on an individual s overall health goals. Nutritionists must be able to think in terms of individuals as well as groups of people. Considerations must be made for diseases and injuries along with allergies and dietary restrictions. The nutrition professional can concentrate on consulting, food preparation, counseling, planning, management, and/or education (Kaplan University, 2016). The career outlook is is bright, and as people continue to look for ways to improve their health, they increasingly become aware of how important nutrition is. The epidemic of obesity in the United States also illustrates the importance of nutritionists when considering public health and policy. • 14. How Did The Vikings Barbarians The Vikings are commonly known as barbarians, evil, sometimes even marauders. However, the Vikings didn t just raid prospering villages or monasteries. They also spent a lot of time exploring overseas. While the rest of Europe was squabbling over what land belongs to who, the Vikings were isolated, all alone on their three little peninsulas. This left them plenty of time to expand their knowledge on ships and navigation. It also led them to bring ships into their culture. Viking long ships were lean, speedy, lightweight ships that could easily cut through the most vicious waves that the ocean could throw at them. The Norse people were separated from mainland Europe by the North Sea. As their nation advanced they built longships and started exploring the ocean. The Viking longboat was the key to the Vikings success in traveling. (Legends and Chronicles, Paragraph 14). This made the long ship a very valuable and important asset to the Vikings. The longships were so fast and nimble, they were great for transportation of soldiers and merchandise. At the time, no other civilization had been able to achieve such an amazing naval feat. this gave the Vikings a great advantage over medieval combat, political affairs, and even the trading industry. ... They move or migrate to a different place because of many reasons; it can be a new job, work abroad, or simply to find better opportunity. Canada has been my home for the last 25 years. Living here gave me independence and the ability to improve myself. I m lucky to be given the chance to stay and live in this beautiful country. All my four children were born and raised here. Growing up, I want them to learn about their roots and family heritage. I and my husband are both Filipinos. At home, they are already exposed to some of the values and traits of our culture. One summer, we planned a vacation, and I thought what better way to learn, understand and embrace the Filipino culture? Go visit the country. All of us were excited and looked forward to this memorable trip back home to my native land, Philippines. Philippines This country was discovered in 1543 by Villalobos, a Spanish explorer. • 16. Arguments Against Young Earth Creationism Creationism View When one is discovering a personal worldview, it is important to learn about how that perspective looks for the beginning of time and the end of time. As a Christian, it is especially important to understand what stance one should take on creationism. Looking at Genesis 1 2, one can see why there is much controversy amongst the Christian community because there are several different ways one can interpret these chapters. For example, some people believe the world was created in six 24 hour days and these individuals are known as Young Earth Creationists. While others know as Old Earth Creationists, believe that the earth was created over a longer period of time. Overall, the main debate for the point of view on creationism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On this day, God planted the seeds into the world making His garden. Someone who believes in Young Earth Creationism would believe that God sped up the process so everything would be completed within 24 hours. According to Genesis 1:12 it says, the land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. (NIV). This scripture states that the land produced vegetation which means that God did not speed up the process of making the vegetation grow faster. Instead God let the earth do the work of growing. Going on with the argument against Young Earth Creationism would be to look at the scriptures in Genesis 1:24 31 and Genesis 2:7 8. Here it talks about the sixth day of creation, on this day animals were created, Adam, and God planted the Garden of Eden. Genesis 2:15 states that all the cattle, the birds of the sky, and every beast in the field to Adam to name. God put Adam to sleep, took a piece from this side and formed Eve. Adam exclaimed, Now at length (NIV). At length means now at last, indicating that it has been a long period of time that Adam had gone without Eve. As humans we desire connections with other human beings and we desire love. For Adam to become lonely within just a few hours would not seem plausible. If we consider a day in time through the Old Earth Creationism perspective; a single day relates to a thousand years, then it would seem more plausible that Adam grew lonely during this period. Also, back in the Garden of Eden there were over ten thousand animals. For Adam to name every single one of them in only a few short hours would not make sense. (Old Earth ... • 17. Paulo Freire The Banking Concept Of Education Paulo Freire believes that the world is primarily dominated by the banking concept in regards to education. Under the banking concept, Freire describes the relationship between students and teachers as involv[ing] a narrating Subject (the teacher) and patient, listening objects (the students) (216). Freire later goes on to symbolize students as empty receptacles awaiting teachers to dump their knowledge freely to fill the empty spaces. Memorization, obedience, oppression, and dominance all describe the inner workings of the banking concept. Students lose their ability to become cogitative thinkers as they memorize lectures, never speak their voice or dissent to teachers, and give all of their freedom to their professors. Students then become slaves to the classroom, and rather than a symbiotic relationship existing between students and teachers, the road is very one way. If Freire were to analyze ... This points readers in the direction that the banking concept molds students to be mindless receptacles awaiting dumped knowledge; reading then is used to soak in the word count and not the actual meaning behind the piece. • 20. Chemical Weathering Lab Report Jerry Valente Earth Science 1 11/10/17 Chemical Weathering Background Information Chemical weathering occurs when the erosion of rocks and the disintegration of rocks are caused by chemical reactions with water and substances dissolved in it. This can occur in places where rainfall is common, it occurs more rapidly at higher temperatures. Since high temperatures and damp areas cause the chemical weathering process to increase, you can infer that chemical weathering occurs more frequently in the spring. There are different types of chemical weathering, the three big ones being solution, hydrolysis, and oxidation. Solution weathering occurs when sulphuric acid in the air mixes with rainwater turning it into acid rain. This is most common in highly polluted areas such as China which is a very big country with a lot of cities and rural manufacturing plants. Acidic rain can remove/damage rocks, limestone is especially vulnerable to weathering by rain water containing CO2. The next type, hydrolysis weathering, breaks down rocks by acidic water to produce clay and a soluble salt. The only rock not affected by hydrolysis is quartz. Finally the last type of weathering is the breakdown of rocks by oxygen and water called oxidation, which makes rocks less resistant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fiction, it leads readers to consider various conclusions and provokes them to go beyond the text itself. In Dubious Battle exemplifies this. John Steinbeck ensures that every character, every conflict, and every theme incorporates some form of ambiguity. Not only does this provoke the reader to think beyond the socio economic problems directly expressed within the text, but it also sparks questions regarding the main purpose of writing the novel. Steinbeck achieves this by giving insight regarding the ambiguous nature of the characters themselves. As a result, his ambiguous nature is essential to follow in order to foreshadow any new development that occurs throughout the plot line. Any individual would follow Mac s lead because of how he framed himself to be an altruistic person. Moreover, his ability to dictate both London and Dakin throughout the story demonstrates his ability to lead behind the scenes. All of these examples suggest how Mac is the protagonist within the story and he was the central character to analyze and understand. Well, teen pregnancy are young female girls that become pregnant under the age of 20. A female can become pregnant from having sexual intercourse and after she have started to ovulate. Young female girls will become pregnant without even thinking about the consequences and the type of environment the baby will be in. Not because the young mother is poor or rich, but because they re not ready to take care of another human being. Not to mention, pregnant teens are young themselves, so their also growing. There are plenty of problems that are the cause of teen pregnancy, and many of those problems can be solved. One reason for teen pregnancy is the lack of information that is given to students in middle and high school about sex and how to prevent it from happening. Also, the lack amount of talks from parents that they can give to their teen. I wouldn t say there isn t any education given out to students about sex, but there isn t ENOUGH to make pre teens and teens to fully understand and have the right mind set about sex. Many schools won t really focus on the topic about teen pregnancy because it really doesn t have much about academics and that s really understandable, but at the end of the day teens are also human and do make mistakes. I believe schools should give education about teen pregnancy as much as the other subjects. The topic of teen pregnancy shouldn t be left out because talking to your teen about sex can definitely influence their lifestyle. Many teens would learn about sex in the streets which it totally horrible because 9/10, the streets will educate them to have sex rather than not to. The solution to this problem is that parents and schools should educate their teens/students with more education about teen pregnancy, so that the number pregnant teens can decrease in near future. Another reason for teen pregnancy is social media. Social media can have a huge impact on how teens can view their lives by influencing them with a different kind of lifestyle. Inherited Genetic Variations Inherited genetic variations may result from new genetic combinations through meiosis, nondisjunction errors occurring during cell division and through mutations in the DNA of egg and sperm cells. Meiosis is a cell division that results in four daughter cells. The daughter cells have half the number of chromosomes of the parent cells. In meiosis the Law of Independent Assortment states that the alleles of one gene sort in gametes independently of the alleles of another gene. Meiosis increases inherited genetic variation because during meiosis, homologous chromosomes each from one pair of parents. • 36. The Free Trade Agreement The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as well as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) were failures. The North American Free Trade Agreement was one of the most controversial documents of the 20th century, beginning January 1st 1988.1 The reason it was so controversial was because it was loved in some ways yet hated in others. One of the reasons why the FTA and NAFTA were failures is due to the fact that Prime Minister Brian Mulroney lost a lot of votes caused by the amount of voters that disapproved of the FTA and NAFTA. Another reason the FTA and NAFTA were failures is because the agreement did not improve the amount of full time jobs in Canada, which was one of the reasons that the FTA and NAFTA was created in the first place. The final reason the deal failed was because the deal was supposed to improve productivity around Canada but really did nothing. The FTA and NAFTA were failures because it only helped a small handful of Canadians and hindered many more. The first main reason why the FTA and NAFTA were failures was because of the popularity Prime Minister Brian Mulroney lost. Mulroney was elected into government in 1984 with the biggest election win in Canadian history. When he was re elected in 1988, it gave Mulroney the go ahead with the FTA which was implemented at midnight on January 1st 1989. Before Mulroney brought the FTA to the table he was thought of as the best Prime Minister Canada had ever elected. After the FTA and NAFTA, Mulroney was said to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Dragons In J. R. Tolkien s The Hobbit What does the word dragon mean to us? Generally, if one is asked this question, the response would be unintelligent dangerous weapons of destruction . However, this is not the case in J.R.R Tolkien s The Hobbit , nor is it true for the early mythology of dragons. Instead, this modern definition is replaced with one of, greedy, intelligent beings with human characteristics . Hence, a question arises as to why the image of dragons has been drastically downgraded throughout literature? To answer this question, I will first begin by isolating passages from Tolkien s The Hobbit in an attempt to describe certain features of Smaug the magnificent. Afterwards, I will partake in exemplifying the written style of dragons in the history of literature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Traditional dragons were portrayed when the certain writers have been able to preserve the wonder of the creatures. Whereas, modern dragons are illustrated when select stories have implemented new components that have served as counter productive as depicted by the Harry Potter series which relegates the true plot potential of these beasts. Additionally, these modern dragons tend to be obstacles for the main hero to overcome, which is a stark contrast from the traditional dragons. Therefore, for what reason have writers decided to downgrade the beasts? Unerman (2002) puts forth the belief that fictional evil is more convincing and more frightening when people, not dragons, are the true enemy (pg. 100). In addition, another argument could be made in that dragons such as Smaug will overshadow the main human villain, therefore, by downgrading the beasts to simple plot obstacles, it allows for the dragons not to overshadow the main villain, and I cannot accept either argument. Suggesting that humanity allows for more engaging villains is absurd, considering that the simple task of personifying a dragon in Smaug made for one of the greatest, psychologically complicated, and utmost captivating villain in all of literature. Nonetheless, one may argue that Tolkien s Smaug serves as the same purpose as a dragon in the Harry Potter series; a plot obstacle that cause destruction. Granted that this notion may appear plausible, it proves false in terms of characteristics of the dragons individually. In other words, the dragon in Harry Potter happens to be illustrated as regular animal that features no unique qualities, whereas Smaug is categorized as a complex and unique character, in terms of his motives, intelligence, and the threat he poses to those who dare challenge ... He has two options: he can finish the book, fulfill his desire to know who killed the victim, and not get the proper amount of sleep he needs, or he can go to sleep, receive plenty of rest, feel refreshed the next morning, and wait until that evening to finish the novel. He would be altruistic to his body and his health if he went to bed early; however, he would be selfish to his body if he stayed up and finished the novel (Le Morvan). Altruism, which has both positive and negative effects, is a controversial character trait; however, it ultimately promotes compassion for the human race and help for the ecosystem. In a world where altruism exists, selfishness exists as well (Le Morvan). Selfishness is when a person puts his or her interests before other people s interests, and altruism is when a person puts other people s interests before his or her own interests (Le Morvan). Martin Luther King believed with all of his heart and soul that every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness (Soosai Nathan).
