Rasoushadhis are superior to kashtoushadhis for several reasons. Rasoushadhis have high bioavailability due to their small size, allowing them to be rapidly absorbed and act quickly. They can treat difficult diseases and have no limitations based on dosha. In contrast, kashtoushadhis have unpredictable bioavailability and their effects depend on individual factors like dosha. However, both have benefits and a combination of rasoushadhis and kashtoushadhis can produce synergistic effects, making them more effective together than separately.

2. • Drugs having medicinal values may be broadly
classified into 2 different group according to their
source, evolution, utility and properties.
• They are Organic and Inorganic.
• It is quiet evident that in the earlier part of the
Ayurvedic era, herbs and plants were tools of
vaidyas.

3. • Charaka, Sushruta and other Acharyas have
expounded the principles and utility of these
herbs.
• Later on probably a revolution was in process
during the medieval period, during which
minerals and metals have dominated the scene
in the field of Ayurveda.
• Thus the addition of the minerals and metals
enriched the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia.

Naga is vaasuki sarpa veerya, vanga is indra
veerya when this naga, vanga are administered it
increases the entire seminal quality.
When loha bhasma is administered it increases
iron in our body.

Rasa shastra is not only for loha siddhi but
also for deha siddhi. Here the word muktireva
parama prayojanatvat is only related to rasa drugs,
herbal origin has no such phalashruti.

Herbal drugs are engulfed by Naga, naga by
vanga, vanga by tamra, tamra by taara, tara by
swarna and finally swarna is engulfed by parada.
So a yoga containing rasa drugs will have the
properties of herbal drugs also.

the drug will become bruhat and long lasting in the body &
sadyo hi deepana pachana can be taken in another way, it
soon gets digested and absorption takes place
immediately.

•Herbal origin drugs in an average 12gm has to be
administered but rasa drugs are in milligrams.. i.e
1000times lesser than herbal.
•Rasa oushadhies are more biologically available than
herbal and are fast acting.
•It has no taste hence palatability is not an issue which is a

be maintained and it cannot be cured but here our
Rasa acharyas opines that even such difficult
levels of diseases can be conquered by rasa
drugs.

involvement of dosha, dushya, prakruti of a
person & even environmental factors but
rasa drugs has no such limitations.

•As the diseases turns stronger and complicated
upon chronicity, similarly parada becomes
stronger and stronger by doing different
samskaras.

12. Action of shodhana
•Ex- if shilajatu shodhana is done by triphala it acts as
karshana, if it is done by go-dugdha It acts as bruhmana &
vrushya.
•One drug can serve many purpose just by changing its
samskara dravya, such multi-dimension activities are
possible only through rasa-drugs.

14. Understanding lohanam maranam shrestam
sarvesham rasa bhasmana
If the rasaoushadhi which enters stomach contains oxides
and alcohol group, it soon enters the liver for metabolism later it
enters into systemic circulation and in next stage the drugs like
sulphates, sulphides etc gets digested and enters liver.
Hence parada marita bhasmas are best.

15. Rasa drugs and rasa/tasteRasa drugs and rasa/taste
• As we all know that Drugs having shad rasa are
the best, in rasashastra there are shad rasa
yukta dravyas which are easily available.
• Ex- parada, vaikranta, vajra etc.
Which are very much helpful in body nourishment.

16. One drug many usesOne drug many uses
• Ex- abhraka- which can be used from rasa to
shukra dhatu
• Ex2- parada, there is no disease which cannot
be cured by parada.
• Ex3- makshika dhatu sakala amayagnam..
i.e.it cures all the diseases.
These are all the special merits when compared to
kastoushadhis.

17. KASHTOUSHADHI RASOUSHADHI
Might be expected to have poor and
unpredictable bio-availability due to
involvement of large polar molecules
and are often metabolized in the
digestive tract.
Being an essential element in the
human body, metals & minerals have
high chemical reaction with enzymes &
absorbed more rapidly than
kashtoushadhis
In kashtoushadhi prayoga treatment
and selection of drug depends on the
predominance of Dosha, Agni, ama
etc.
Rasadravyas can be used without
examining the dosha, dushya etc.
The breakdown of organic molecules
like alkaloids are difficult
Usually bhasmas are in colloidal form
because of their smaller size and
happen to breakdown easier.
Less absorbed compared to colloidal
form molecules
Better absorbed due to colloidal form.
They are both Dosha and
Vyadhipratyanika
They are mainly Vyadhipratyanika

By all these valid proof we can conclude that Rasa vaidyas are
uttama/superior than moolika vaidya and surgeon Even though there
are similarity and dissimilarity in pharmaceutical and pharmacological
aspects of kashtoushadhis and rasoushadhis but they are in need of
each other. Pharmaco-therapeutically they have lots of unique
properties and when used in combination show very important
synergism and thus are better effective than when used separately..
