This five-day WebQuest introduces third grade students to Native American culture through group projects and presentations. On day one, students are assigned Native American tribes and begin research projects. Subsequent days focus on comparing hunting and gathering, crafting tribal tools and pottery, experiencing music and games, and presenting findings. The teacher evaluates students based on presentation rubrics and participation. The goal is for students to learn about Native American history, food, language, arts and way of life through interactive lessons and collaboration.

Introduction
This WebQuest is designed for school/family connection. It is an online version of the
Lesson Plan created by the teacher. Parents can view the lesson at any time and give
feedback or prepare their child for the week ahead.
Tasks
By the end of a five day school week, I want your students to know Native American
History. He or she will learn this important information by working in groups to create
and present Native American projects. These projects will outline the importance of
Native American culture by introducing the children to different food, language,
song/dance, games, and ways of life.
Process
Day 1 - I will begin by introducing Native Americans to the children and give each child
a Native American name. I will question their prior knowledge on topic, and then
continue by discussing the different Tribes that are located throughout North America
and languages they speak. I will later split the class into different groups and pass out
Native American Tribes to each group. The children will be required to do a research
project for the chosen group. They can present this information as they choose, but
must include examples with pictures or items they have created to resemble.
 Information during this lesson will be present via a voki and posters.
 I will provide the children with the tribe in which they are to do their project on. I
will also provide the children with the information needed during said discussions.

2. Day 2 - Student research will begin. We will compare a hunter to a gatherer. Together
we will create a similarity/difference chart using the smart board. The children will be
allowed to fill in the chart. We will become familiar with how tribes created their own
materials, such as tools to work and hunt with. I will then give the children time to get in
groups and create a tool used within the tribe they were assigned. They will be required
to take a picture of the tool created and upload it to the class Facebook page,
describing what and how the tool is used.
 Information during this lesson will be provided via the smart board and Facebook.
 I will prepare the similarity/difference chart before class and have it ready to be
used via the Smart board.
Day 3- Student research will continue. I will present the children with different forms of
Native American food. They will be allowed to taste and determine their likes and
dislikes. We will compare Native American food with the food we are familiar with
verbally. I will then require the children to blog about their experience with the food. We
will also cover Native American pottery and how they created their own materials to eat
with. The children will then get into their groups and create pottery used within the tribe
they were assigned
 Information during this lesson will available via the class blog. Students are ask
to take pictures during food sampling and upload to class twitter account.
 I will provide all materials needed to complete this lesson, including clay used for
pottery making.
Day 4- Research will continue. As a class we will experience Music as it was known to
Native Americans. I will play a YouTube video that shows the difference between
today’s music/dance and that of Native Americans. I will encourage the children to
dance and enjoy the music. I will then introduce them to different types of Native
American games. They will be allowed to experience the different games through play

a QR code that will be posted to our class sites that link the children directly to
the video.
 Materials for the games will be made available. I will have prepared different
games in advance for the children to experience.
Day 5- The children will be required to present their project. If time allows I will present
them with a WebQuest discussing Native American history.
 The children will be presenting projects in various forms. I will present the
WebQuest via the smart board. I will also post to class sites for later access.
 I have provided materials needed throughout the week, the children must supply
any additional materials needed.

3. Evaluation
I will evaluate your student’s learning through their group presentations. Below is a copy
of what is required and also the rubric in which I will be grading. I will also periodically
evaluate them based on participation during activities, and involvement during class
discussions.
Presentation Requirements-
 You are required to do research on the North American tribe assigned to your
group.
 For this tribe you must present the following-
 name,
 location,
 language spoke,
 hunter/gatherer,
 types of food,
 ways of life/living,
 tools/pottery used
 You may present this information as you choose, but must include examples with
pictures or items they have created.
