2. Name and Frequency
Name
‘DJ EJ’ came from the
initials of our names, these
being: Dale, Jess, Emily,
Jess. This gives the radio
station the image of the
station as the theme is
music which corresponds
with ‘DJ’.
Number for radio
“98” because it is the year
of birth for Dale,Jess B,
Emily.
The number “6” is the
added birth date of all four
of us. It came to “60”
which we turned into “6” to
create 98.6fm.
3. Audience
Demographics
Primary Audience is teenagers which makes it easier for us to relate to.
Secondary Audience is ‘young adults’ for example; 20-40 year olds (middle
aged) Due to some adults wanting to fit in with the generation and feel
younger. Also they could enjoy some more modern genre.
There is no specific gender as this radio station will broadcast for males and
females and all sexualities. It is aimed towards working and middle class as
the music will be suitable for their lifestyle more than it would for upper
class.
Geo-demographics
This radio station is national as it will be accessible just around the UK.
4. Reasons & Influences for the station
Our radio station is narrowcasting for a very particular and important interest
for young people which is music. The segmentation of the station is going to
be modern pop, R’n’B style. We chose to target a young audience
(teenagers/young adults) because it is relevant to all of us, due to us being in
our teens. The age range makes it easier to determine what music to include
in the radio station due to the wide range of genres included in young
people’s interests.
We used Capital FM as our main influence for our station, although we have
used other radio stations for other aspects of the radio, such as Kiss FM,
Radio 1, Kerrang, etc. We used these specific radio stations because their
main target audience is the younger generation, e.g teenagers and young
adults.
