The Charge Of The Light Brigade Literary Devices
The Battle of Balaclava of the Crimean War took place on October 25, 1854 (Greenspan). Not even
two months later, Lord Alfred Tennyson published his poem The Charge of the Light Brigade
(History.com). Although the Poetry for Students author believes that the soldiers loyalty was the
most notable feature, the more important aspect was the soldiers bravery (Poetryfor Students). In
The Charge of the Light Brigade, Tennyson accentuates the bravery that the soldiers exhibited in
their battle through the use of literary devices such as repetition, sensory details, and epistrophe.
Poets often utilize different techniques in order to improve their writing or to make an argument. In
this case, Tennyson used repetition to emphasize the point ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At the end of every paragraph, rode the six hundred, or something similar to it, was repeated. If
the reader ignores every other phrase and only reads the last line of each stanza, he is still able
to get a sense of how the battle progresses. When the Light Brigade begins to lose the battle, the
phrase shifts to not the six hundred, and then to left of six hundred (Tennyson). It is easy to see
from these phrases that the circumstances have changed for the soldiers. It seems like the soldiers
have no hope and will be forgotten. The last line of the poem, however, changes everything. Noble
six hundred! ; the soldiers will not be forgotten or ridiculed, rather they will be remembered and
praised for their bravery, no matter the outcome of the battle. Without this phrase being placed at
the end of every paragraph, the reader wouldn t understand that the soldiers extensive bravery was
enough for them to be remembered, even though they were unsuccessful in battle.
The Charge of the Light Brigade is full of emotion and excitement. Neither of those sensations
would have been possible without the use of literary devices. Tennyson used repetition, sensory
details, and epistrophe in order to add to the emotional effect, but more importantly to aid him in
proving the soldiers bravery. Without these literary devices, the poem

Charles Dickens Stylistic Devices Essay

Date
Charles Dickens and the making of the modern age Charles Dickens has used various stylistic
devices in his literary works that he did between the year 1812 1870. He employed different
styles just like any other author to make his point out using changing styles in literature. Most of
the imagery and characters in his writings cannot be taken to be literal since they had some hidden
meaning in them. He employed the dramatic technique in his novels, which took a form of more
of cinema than pure theater like most of the literature works. There are a lot of dramatic picture
scenes which ring into our minds when we study his novels like the Fagin s den in the novel of
Oliver Twist. These dramatic pictures convey meanings in themselves in this literature. There is
also a gradual change in the style that Dickens employ in his works like changes in pronominal
reference, elaboration, and nominalisation. This paper analyses the different styles used by Dickens
in his novels those before the 1850 and those after 1850.
Oliver Twist In the novel of Oliver Twist, Dickens employ a stylistic device that is considered to
be different to the stylistic device employed in other works by the same author. In this novel, he

Definition Of Sacrifice
Before making a sacrifice, people can consider which kind of sacrifice they would be making,
the value in making the sacrifice, and when making this sacrifice would be appropriate. The
definition of sacrifice, according to Google, is an act of giving up something valued for the sake
of something else regarded as more important or worthy. Ever since the beginning of time, people
have made sacrifices, big and small. Every sacrifice anybody has ever made is because they thought
that giving up something they value would help something that they or somebody else valued even
more.
Some sacrifices are as small as letting your younger sibling eat the last slice of pizza. However,
others are much larger, like giving $5000 to cancer research. The kind of sacrifice that you make
is up to you. Do you want to give up your comfort, time, money, or help to something or someone
that will increase one s levels of happiness? Sacrifices can be made for yourself, others, and other

Jeremy Bentham Utilitarianism
On February 15th 1748, Jeremy Bentham, who would become the chief expounder of
utilitarianism, was born in London, England. Born to two attorneys, Jeremy grew up in a time of
major economic, social and political reform. The Industrial Revolution, rise of the middle class,
and the coming revolutions in France and America were just some major changes Bentham was
able to witness. Entering Queens College in 1760, and studying law at Lincoln s Inn in 1764.
Despite being qualified to practice law, he never did so. Bentham prefered to write matters of legal
reform although, he never went on to publish much of his work.
Utilitarianism was developed in the late 18th and 19th century by Jeremy Bentham alongside fellow
philosopher, John Stuart Mill. Utilitarianism is defined as the moral worth of an action is
determined by its contribution in overall utility by maximizing happiness or pleasure as summed
among all people. Utility in philosophy is defined as actions or behaviours that promote happiness
and pleasure are right, while actions and behaviours that cause unhappiness are wrong. A man of
positive law, Bentham believed morals and legislation could be described scientifically, but they
needed an account of human nature. Human nature and behaviour could be explained and
controlled by two primary motives: pain and pleasure. Bentham believed pain and pleasure not
only act a explanations for people s actions, but they can also define an individual s good.

Hydrogen as an Alternative Fuel Essays
Hydrogen as an Alternative Fuel
What is Hydrogen?
The simplest and lightest fuel is hydrogen gas (H2). Hydrogen is in a gaseous state at atmospheric
pressure and ambient temperatures. Hydrogen is being explored for use in combustion engines and
fuel cell electric vehicles. On a volumetric basis, the energy density of hydrogen is very low under
ambient conditions. This presents greater transportation and storage hurdles than for liquid fuels.
Storage systems being developed include compressed hydrogen, liquid hydrogen, and physical or
chemical bonding between hydrogen and a storage material (for example, metal hydrides). The
ability to create hydrogen from a variety of resources and its ... Show more content on

Hydrogen burns in air at concentrations in the range of 4 to 75 percent by volume (methane burns at
5.3 to 15 percent concentrations by volume). The highest burning temperature of hydrogen is 2,318
degrees Celsius and is reached at 29 percent concentration by volume in air.
Hydrogen Benefits
Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Greenhouse gases are thought to be responsible for changes in global climate. They trap excess
heat from the sun s infrared radiation that would otherwise escape into space, much like a
greenhouse is used to trap heat. When we drive our cars, and light, heat, and cool our homes, we
generate greenhouse gases. But if we used hydrogen in very high efficiency fuel cells for our
transportation and to generate power, we could significantly reduce the GHG emissions especially
if the hydrogen is produced using renewable resources, nuclear power, or clean fossil technologies.
Reduce Air Pollution
The combustion of fossil fuels by electric power plants, vehicles, and other sources is responsible
for most of the smog and harmful particulates in the air. Fuel cells powered by pure hydrogen emit
no harmful pollutants. Fuel cells that use a reformer to convert fuels such as natural gas, methanol,
or gasoline to hydrogen do emit small amounts of air

Constructivist Classroom In The Classroom
Having a constructivist classroom can mean many different things. Being a teacher with a
constructivist perspective is a different type of teaching style than people are used to.
Constructivism, as I understand it, is a way of teaching that has the students learn through their own
methods. They are to try to find their own style of learninga concept, whether it be in their heads or
with unifix blocks or by drawing pictures. Everyone learns differently and children need to be given
the freedom to explore their learning by themselves. Also, students need to be able to construct their
own meanings and insights without teacher instruction. Having a constructivist classroom would
mean the teacher not giving as much direction as in a traditional classroom. Teachers with this
perspective want their students to be mathematizing their learning (FD Ch 1.4).
An example of this concept of mathematizing was when in Madeline s classroom. She wanted her
students to understand the concept of counting on instead of starting back at 1 and the idea that
numbers are nested inside of each other (FD Ch 1.5). Madeline was having her students count red
and green beads to make a necklace of 22. Some of them understood that if you had 19 beads, then
you only need 3 more to make 22 while others started back at 1 to count to 22 altogether.
This sense of numbers enveloped in other larger numbers is a huge concept for young children.
They can mimic adults and count objects without a sense of

Ralston, Bethany Hamilton, and Hyeonseo Lee are all extraordinarily brave, persistent and patient
people that made it through difficult and life endangering situations. Ralston exhibited the

Bethany Hamilton and Hyeonseo Lee. In order to be a survivor, a person needs patience,
bravery, and persistence. One of the most important characteristics of a survivor is patience.
Whenever Hyeonseo Lee was attempting to help her family escape from North Korea, she said I
did everything to get my family to freedom, and we came so close, but my family was thrown in
jail. . . I went back and forth between the immigration office and the police station, desperately

Values Of Christianity In Beowulf
There are certain values that change and remain the same after a 1000 year. Values is a person s
principles or standards of behavior; one s judgment of what is important in life. One of the values
would be Christianity for example, this value is the religion based on the person and teachings of
Jesus of Nazareth, or its beliefs and practices. Another value would be culture, which means the arts
and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively. Christianity has
played a big role in the Anglo Saxon, at the time majority were believers. In Beowulfit says
Afterwards a boy child was sent to Shield, a cub in the yard, a comfort sent by God to that nation.
He knew what they had tooled, the long times and troubles they d come through without a
leader; so the Lord of Life, the glorious Almighty, made this man renowned. (12 17) Throughout
Beowulf, whenever any great men manage to achieve heroic feats, the narrator will be careful
to attribute their prowess to God s favor and divine plan. Christianity is still the same in today s
world, me being a Christian I can relate to Beowulf because like Beowulf I acknowledge God as
my protector. I also believe that early success, given by God, must be treated with humbleness.
This value is still a value today after a 1000 years because till this day you can find different
philosophy s of Christianity. Treat my sons with tender care, be strong and kind. Here each

Dbq Absolute Monarchs Research Paper
Almost all governments during the 16th and 17th centuries were absolute monarchies. These
monarchs caused a lot of controversy because the people they were residing over believed that it

absolute monarchs as tyrannical because they did not like the way that they chose to rule. This

group responsible for taking in these so called criminals, at least in the eyes of the British, was the
Kings or Queens Bench. This act, when enforced by Thomas Gage, was extremely unfair and
unjust. This caused the colonist to take matters into there own hands after the trial of those solders

to this mediocre life that it suggests she does not desire to leave by virtue of her fear to start

Frances Willard s Reform
The late nineteenth century was a time of social reformation. Questions about social roles, religion,
and the overall progression of America arose from the up and coming modernizing society. These
questions would inevitably lead to political and social movements that would influence today s
society. Social reform organizations made headlines across the nation and their movements towards
developing positive social change. Frances Willard, a Christian suffragist, political activist, and
reformer for gender equality, created awareness on political issues that have affected, what are now,
basic societal standards. Moreover, these influences on political and social changes developed rules

Willard recognizes the hardships of being an activist and the negative attention that comes along
with it. However, she believes in her actions toward reform and wants to reassure her audience
that they too are praised for their efforts and that they will all be recognized for the courage they
are admitting. Willard accounts for the worldwide efforts that the World s Woman s Christian
Temperance Union has made exemplifying God s principles. She notes the importance of these
principles and the need for them to be embraced into customs and laws in order to live in an
acceptable godly society. This view of acceptance, equality, and the act of working in mission
groups worldwide and promoting awareness for those less fortunate depicts our desire to strive
for those same morals in today s society. Moreover, The Temperance Campaign which was
presented in a speech by Willard in 1874, titled Everybody s War, outlined the dangers of
alcoholism and its immediate effects on American families. This speech gave the controversial

The Fair Work Commission ( Fwc )
This week saw the Fair Work Commission (FWC) bring down an adjustment to Penalty rates in
Australia for some Retail and Hospitality Workers. If you read the newspapers, listen to the radio,
and watch TV coverage it comes across as the greatest betrayal of the working man (or woman)
since the great Depression.
In this article I ll give my view on this. Disclaimer: I own a couple of Small Business s which
(potentially) benefit from this decision. I have looked after the HR department of a larger ASX
listed company in the past and have some reasonable HR experience. I also really think retail
shops should be closed on a Sunday so people can do other (more sociable, community and family
friendly) activities rather than trudging around shops ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In relation to Sunday rates, the commission cut: Hospitality award rates for full time and part time
workers from 175% to 150% Fast food award rates for level one employees from 150% to 125% for
full time and part time employees and from 175% to 150% for casuals Retail award rates for full
time and part time employees from 200% to 150% and for casuals from 200% to 175% Pharmacy
award rates from 200% to 150% for full time and part time workers for work between 7am and
9pm, and from 200% to 175% for casuals at the same times.
Sunday rates remained at 175% for casuals in the hospitality industry, and there was no cut for
level two and three employees in the fast food award. The commission cut public holiday rates in
the hospitality and retail awards except for clubs from 250% to 225% for full time and part time
employees. The casuals rate will be 250%.
Interestingly the FWC sis not adjust the penalty rates for the Award that governs restaurants.
The Summary of the FWC ruling can be found here: https://www.fwc.gov.au/documents/sites
/awardsmodernfouryr/2017fwcfb1001 summary.pdf Big Business Response
Unsurprisingly the employer groups have come out and stated that this would lead to an increase in
employment. Being generous (cynical) I would suggest that it will lead to more employment for
lobbyists. Given the reductions in penalty rates simply apply for Sundays, and are really minor in
nature, I

The Prospect Theory, A Behavioral Economic Theory
Prospect theory is a Behavioural Economics Theory which tries to understand how people take
decisions in terms of two alternatives, which have a probabilistic nature. These decision making
processes and their respective outcomes also involve risk. An important point of the Prospect
Theory is that it considers the fact that the outcomes of the alternatives are known. The basic idea
behind the theory is that people base their decisions on potential gains and losses, rather than
thinking about the final outcome. The theory is of the idea that people make such decisions about
gains and losses with the help of heuristics. The theory has been very critical in its application as it
tries to bring forth a model which is much more realistic in nature,... Show more content on

In the equation, xi refers to the total number of possible outcomes and pi shows the probability of
those respective outcomes. In the equation w is referred to as the weighing function for the
probabilities which therefore shows that people tend to overreact to certain situations of smaller
probability as compared to larger probabilities.
MAJOR FEATURES
1) The coefficients of values are just gains and losses which are not to be confused with final
wealth. 2) The model is able to represent greater sensitivity towards losses as compared to gains.
3) The function is convex for losses that would occur out of the possible outcomes and concave for
any sort of gain.
4) Weighing function helps to overweigh smaller probabilities.
APPLICATIONS OF PROSPECT THEORY
Barberis (2013) paper is a review of the applications of Prospect Theory. As some argue that the
Prospect Theory only works well under a laboratory setting, the author has other ideas to share.
According to Barberis, Prospect Theory is just not well made to be directly applied. The paper is
able to trace down the various advancements that have come up in terms of Prospect

The Concept Of Discovery In Rainbows s End By Jane...
Can Discovery truly allows us to view life in a new and fresh way? Due to the complex and
abstract nature of the concept of discovery, a true sense of discovery harbour s the ability to incite
individuals in many differentiating ways as it can be provoked through their different past
experiences. The conceptof discovery has evidently evoked curiosity and inquisitiveness through the
protagonists of both the indigenous play Rainbows end composed by Jane Harrison, and also
through the novel The fault in our stars authored by John Green.
The process of discovery is dynamic, meaning that it is constantly changing and that it is also
severely shaped by the values and attitudes of the characters. This idea is conveyed through Nan

discovery truly allows us to view life in a new and fresh way and can undoubtedly affect people in
different ways.
Moreover, discovery is an abstract perspective in which is always evolving as it is influenced by
the environment and social context in which people place themselves within. The concept of
discovery is evidently also illustrated in the novel The fault in our stars where the question Who

The Creation Of Dynamite Sacrifice
Without the creation of dynamite and other modern explosives in the 1850 1900 era, westward
expansion of railroads would have been impossible. There were a number of both positive and
negative aspects to it; it helped to a huge degree with being able to build across the mountain
ranges along the country, although a large number of people were killed by the explosives. In the
1860 s and 70 s, a lot of the United Stateswas unexplored. This was mostly due to the lack of
adequate transportation that was available at the time. Many people attempted to move across the
country in carriages drawn by oxen or horses, but only a tiny percentage were able to make it
across, and for them it took years. When the idea of building a railroad was presented, it seemed
next to impossible due to looming mountains that would spend hundreds of years to tunnel through
with a pickaxe. That was when dynamite came into the picture. Explosives were useful because
they were able to completely eliminate sections of mountain ranges at a time. This meant that
crossing from one side of the country to another took significantly less time, and new means of
transportation were... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If used incorrectly or too close to people, dying is unavoidable. This is because of the high
pressure emitted by the explosion, which causes a shortage of oxygen and failure of necessary
organs. Since we did not know much about explosions at the time railroad expansion was
happening, many people were not sure of the correct way to use it or how to keep themselves
alive when blowing up massive sections of mountains. This caused thousands on thousands of
deaths across the nation. Along with the loss of innocent lives, death slowed down the railroad
expansion because new employees had to be hired regularly due to death. It proved difficult as
people were scared by the fatality rate, and ultimately delayed efficiency though not too

Thesis Of The Alchemist
Some may refer to The Alchemist as a best selling novel written by Paulo Coelho which explains
the ideas of having a dream, or Personal Legend, and going through obstacles to conquer it. The
book starts off like any other, introducing and describing the main characters, in this case
Santiago is the first to share the interest of peers reading the story. He is said to be a small town
shepherd boy who will do anything for his flock of sheep. In the opening scene of the story,
Santiago takes his flock to an abandoned church and lies down under a sycamore tree hoping to
get some rest. He is soon woken up from a disturbing dreamwhich foreshadows further into the
story of his own Personal Legend. Later in the book, Santiago is faced with multiple tests to be
successful in finding his treasure. Remember that wherever your heart is, there you will find
your treasure (Coelho 15). Paulo continues to add characters in the book that help Santiago
throughout his journey. To begin his long journey, Santiago meets a wise old king name King
Melchizedek. He is in a local market when the king walks up and asks Santiago what he is
reading. The king continues to say that the book he is reading is important but irritating because
it describes the characters inability to choose their own Personal Legend. When Santiago asks
where this mysterious stranger is from, King Melchizedek replies with I am from many places,
but I was born in Salem as I am the king there (Coelho 64). Accepting his statement as true,
Santiago continues the conversation allowing them to eventually talk about his dream of the
Pyramids. The king wants to help Santiago, but for a price of six sheep. Before leaving with
Santiago s sheep he shares, The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world, and
never to forget the drops of oil on the spoon (Coelho 32). His message to Santiago reminds him
that by following his dream he will witness beautiful sights and people, but that he should always
remember the purpose of his travels. Leaving it at that, the king pointed Santiago in the direction to
follow his dream. Not before long, Santiago meets a crystal merchant. Trying to run away from his
Personal Legend once again, he gets a job at the

Essay on Assisted Suicide
The purpose of this research paper is to examine the many different angles of a controversial topic
such as physician assisted suicide or euthanasia. Physician assisted suicide (PAS) is when a person
kills him or herself and the doctor supplies the means knowing what the intention is. The doctor
prescribes a medication to their patient in lethal doses. This allows the patient to choose when they
want to die. They can take the pills at home with friends and family present if they wish or they
could peacefully go alone. Euthanasia is lethal injection by a physician. PAS is currently illegal in

people to choose to die. The Death with Dignity Act was originally passed in 1994. The law was
immediately challenged in court and prevented from going into effect. As the court cases
proceeded, the Oregon Legislature decided the public did not know what it was doing when it
voted and decided to put the issue back on the ballot in 1997. Oregon Death with Dignity won
every court challenge and on October 27, 1997, the U.S. Supreme Court denied a hearing to
challengers of death with dignity, allowing the law to go into effect. In November 1997, the voters
of Oregon overwhelmingly voted to support the law. Support for the law has continued to increase
since its implementation in 1997.
Supporting PAS
There are some people who believe that PAS is merely another decision that a human being
should be able to make about their own life. It is peaceful and easy to prepare for. When a
person chooses to die it is most likely because they are terminally ill. Meaning, they have a
disease that will only allow them to live for a limited amount of time. Some elderly people want
to have the option of PAS also. Sometimes, they grow old and their bodies cannot function the
way that they used to. This is depressing and discouraging to an older person. They cannot see

A Native View On The Indigenous Perspective Analysis
For centuries, humans have successfully dominated the animal kingdom. They have risen above
their own physical characteristics and demolished evolutional boundaries. Like a bird soars and a
fish swims, humans have surpassed their somatic disadvantages and created synthetic versions of
these methods of travel. Humans have been so successful in conquering the mobility and patterns
of other animal species that it has led to the societal succession of humans from the animal
kingdom. Although evolutionally, Homo sapiens share common ancestors with other animals, it is
a common belief that humans are in a class of their own, separated from their primitive
counterparts. This is reinforced in the pattern of colonization in humansocieties and their... Show

Jason Wyckoff writes in Toward Justice for Animals , that Until fairly recently, philosophers and
animal advocates have generally treated the question of what we owe to non human animals as
an ethical question, with a primary focus on the treatment of particular animals, rather than as a
social or political question, with a focus on the use, exploitation, commodification, or systematic
extermination of animals. (Wyckoff 539). In other words, humans have only looked into the
morality of animal cruelty on a small scale. Is it right or wrong? If talking about a person killing
an animal for no reason, the answer would be yes. But what about the killing of an animal for a
materialistic reason, such as the skinning of animals for coats, shoes, or fashion accessories?
Because this is done on such a large scale, and has been for a long time, the line between right and
wrong has been blurred. Today s society condemns the illegal hunting of a lion, but keeps quiet on
the legal killing of other animals to fulfill their avaricious needs. This is when the morality of the

Disadvantages Of Coffee
Introduction
It is not a rare scene when you come to the office and see your colleagues are sipping their cups
of coffee. As a matter of fact, coffee has now become a common type of drink for many people,
especially office workers. Not only my family use daily drink but also most people in the world
love it. That s why I m excited about it and I decide to select it for my research paper. I haven t
enough experience and knowledge, so I do by summing material from books, articles and
information from reliable sources on the Internet. My paper will answer three questions:
1.What is the cause leading to harmful effects?
2.What is the effect of using coffee?
3.What is solution to resolve this problem?
My research includes parts such as the situation of influence, reason, problems, solution and
evaluation. In this study, we know disadvantages of using coffee.

It is owing to the fact that coffee contains some elements that absolutely harm our body if it is
consumed in a huge volume, particularly rancid oils and toxic metals (Rob Van Dam, 2008).
Toxic metals include aluminum, cadmium, lead and other poisonous types. If an appropriate
cup of coffee is absorbed in a day, it won t cause any negative effects and deliver a great deal of
toxic metals to human body and health. Otherwise, any overuse of coffee is highly likely to
cause a great deal of pains and diseases to people s health. Besides, rancid oil contained in coffee
is also very dangerous (Joseph, 2014). As a matter of fact, all ground coffee which is being sold
at stores consists of rancid oils. Rancid oils are bad for liver and stimulant as well. It indicates a
point that even decaffeinated coffee could contain rancid oil inside and there is a huge possibility
that human body and health would be negatively suffered as soon as it is consumed in a large

Persuasive Essay About Christmas
What do you bring a King for his birthday?
I think the wise men knew something we didn t. Seriously, when I go to a baby shower I usually
bring diapers, bottles or clothing; not gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Block Quote
When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with
his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests
and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. ~ Matthew 2:10 11 (NLT)
As a family we go through great lengths to have everything in our home point back to Jesus so that
we don t lose sight for why we celebrate Christmas.
However, this year the Lord has really been working on our hearts in regards to how we give gifts.
Our Tradition of Gift Giving
Usually weeks leading up to Christmas we spend time as a family sowing into others, serving in
community outreaches, and giving gifts to those God has placed on our hearts.
On Christmas morning there is great peace knowing we have made Christ the focus, given to those
in need and now we can enjoy this time as a family.
We typically start out with communion and prayer before opening gifts. And then our children look
for their gifts wrapped in their special wrapping paper.
As parents we don t overdue it, we keep it simple and that is usually dictated by a budget. But as I
ve been studying about the gifts the wise men brought Jesus, I began to consider how we can
change our gift giving so that it too points back to

Students with a fixed mindset believe that they are born with a specific set of talent and they are

A similar notion is shown on Geoff Colvin s book, Talent is overrated. He validates that success is

HIV
Approximately 1.2 million people are living with HIV in the United States alone. Of those 1.2
million, 13 percent did not know they were infected (Basic Statistics, 2016). These numbers are
very startling. HIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus, attacks the body s immune system, more
specifically its T cells. With HIV weakening the immune system it can lead to a greater risk for
infection, and eventually Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The immune system is
not an actual system in the body but more a process of the body. The immune system works
through the body s lymphatic system. The human s lymphatic system is an incredible and
intricate factory, working day and night to keep the body free of foreign pathogens, bacteria,
viruses, and other unwanted guests. Composed of lymph nodes and vessels, carrying lymph and
waste though the body to be disposed of, its job is to locate and get rid of anything that has the
potential to do damage to the body, or get rid of something that s just not supposed to be there.
One specific part of the lymphatic system that helps with the body s defense against foreign
pathogens is the T lymphocytes, or T cells. These cells are made and matured in the thymus, which
is significantly larger in children because of the developing and adapting immune systems. The
body has several different types of T cells. The functions of the T cells are to fight against
pathogens in several

Poverty In The United States
Within not only our own country, but throughout the entire world, there is poverty. It is pretty
much a fact of life, and the current way the U.S. government is attempting to resolve the problem
is not the correct way. We are trying to fix a long term problem with a short term solution. Instead
of welfare, there are much better ways to solve the problem of poverty.
If you are not familiar with how welfare works, you are given a set amount of money each
month and you are expected to spend it a certain way. As long as you are satisfying certain
requirements such as applying for an amount of jobs each month or spending the money properly,
you obtain the money. The unfortunate part is that there is an income bracket that dictates
whether or not you qualify for welfare. Once you acquire a job that pays enough, most of the
welfare money is taken away. This centivises not earning a job and living off of welfare, which
generates a debt ceiling that makes it very difficult for people to escape from. Most people who
happen to be in this situation either do not have the means or the motivation to get out of the rutt
and live their entire lives in poverty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Universal Basic Income. UBI is a principle that, in theory, works quite well. In its most basic
form, it ensures that every single person, no matter what, gets an amount of money every month,
which is preferably enough to remain above the poverty line. This allows people to have
something to fall back on, and it essentially creates a financial floor rather than a ceiling, which
lets people always go up and not get stuck with their income. You may be wondering why people
would even be willing to work if they get enough money to live comfortably. The answer to that
would be human motivation. The only way to get a higher standard of living or to do fun things
or go out or eat what you want or anything of the sort is if you have money, and the best way to get
money is to work as hard as you

It is not what you do for your children, but what you have taught them to do for themselves, that
will make them successful human beings.

Empty nest syndrome is a psychological condition faced by most of the parents after a certain point
of time in their lives when their children leave them for their higher education, marriage. This
condition is most common in mothers since they are the ones who have spent almost eighteen to
nineteen years of their life with their children growing them from toddlers to teen.

F = 1.05(1.06)/1.05 = $1.06/€. 5. Suppose that Baltimore Machinery sold a drilling machine to

rate turns out to be $0.62/SF, which currency do you think the Swiss client will choose to use for
payment? What is the value of this free option for the Swiss client? I think the Swiss client should
choose the option to pay the SF15,000 because with the spot exchange rate upping to $0.62, that
would make the equivalent of $10,000 up to SF16,129. This is figured like this: 10,000/.62. (c)

Ares had an affair with his brother s (Hephaestus) wife Aphrodite, this may have gone on for so

He is a very large man; you could say a giant, larger than all other men. Atlas was a Titan and
fought against Zeus, Zeus s brothers and a team of the Hecatonchires, and Cyclopes. He was
defeated by Zeus and made to hold up the heavens forever, and in another story, turned into a
mountaintop after angering Perseus. In one last story, Atlas wanted to be relieved of the burden
of holding the heavens up and asked Hercules to hold the sky, but instead Hercules tricked him
to continue to continue holding up the sky. Poor Atlas, he just wanted a break from holding up
the sky and when it was so close within his reach it was taken away from him. In all that
happened to him, not once did he ever retaliate or get upset, he just accepted what happened to
him. He seems as almost someone who accepts his punishments, doesn t complain, and moves on
with life. All stories are similar in the fact that Atlas is made to hold the heavens up for all
eternity, either as a mountain or a man. Because of Atlas s strength, this is why he was probably
chosen as the one to take on the task of holding up the heavens. Don t mess with the gods otherwise

Rose For Emily Respect
Respecting the elderly is a lesson that most people are taught early on, and there is good reason
for it, but respecting and enabling are not synonymous, especially when heinous crimes are
committed. This is exactly what happens in William Faulkner s Southern gothic short story A
Rose For Emily or, at least, that is the tale told on the surface. Underneath the story of an old
disturbed woman s death is the author s commentary on the nature of Southern pride and tendency
to hold on to the past. Much like the in the current day, the respect that old Southern ways
demands from the region s inhabitants has not changed and will likely remain a constant fixture
for generations to come. Faulkner gets his overarching theme of respect for the past across by
using the characters of Miss Emily and the town as a whole as symbols for the past that is
respected and the living people that must continue. The subgenre of Southern Gothic literature is
one that explores all kinds of hard and gritty themes that can often leave the reader chilled; one such
theme that are explored in this particular piece of Southern... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The story follows the life and death of Emily Grierson through flashback and outside perspective; it
is through the thoughts of the other entity the collective identity of the town that the theme of
respect for the past shines. From almost the beginning, the reader is given this sense of
generational divide among the townsfolk; the older people wish to enable Emily s lack of tax
payment out of respect for her and the arrangement made up by Colonel Sartoris while the younger
want her to pay said taxes, when the next generation, with its more modern ideas, became mayors
and aldermen, this arrangement created some little

Easter Island s A International Identity
Christy Cole

October 29, 2014
Oceanography Places:
Easter Island Easter Island s colossally international identity is mainly associated with its
mysterious moai (the island s statues); however, more recently, Easter Island is being
recognized for its depleting resources and wildlife. Apart from the tourism generated by the
moai, Easter Island is a popular destination for scuba divers due to its pristine, clear waters.
There is concern about Easter Island s ocean life as it is home to nearly one hundred fifty unique
marines species that are gradually disappearing. These aquatic species make up the island s food
source as there are no large, indigenous mammals. In addition to tourism, these fish make up the
rest of Easter Island s economy. Even though humans have played a role in devastating the flora
and fauna, Easter Island s very location works against the native life forms.
Geographic Location:
Easter Island is exceptionally isolated. The closest inhabited neighbor is over two thousand
kilometers away, and Easter Island is over three thousand six hundred kilometers away from the
coast of Chile (Van Tilburg). As Easter Island is an intraoceanic volcanic island, it was created by
volcanic activity much like Hawaii ( Easter Island ). Easter Island is located on the Nazca Plate just
east of the Easter Plate. The Easter plate is categorized as a micro plate, and it rests along the
western border of the Nazca plate (see Figure 2). Along the border between the

Gregor s Delusion In The Metamorphosis
A delusion is a belief held with strong conviction despite superior evidence to the contrary. In the
book The Metamorphosis, the main character, Gregor, transforms into a bug, or so he thinks.
People have speculated on whether or not Gregor truly transforms into a bug or if he has gone
insane. The primary reason why people believe that Gregor has gone insane is the way that he,
himself, reacts to the transformation and the way others around him react. The fact that Gregor
isolates himself, both before and after his transformation, demonstrates a major sign that he has a
mental illness. Gregor s delusioneven goes far enough where he does things that only a bug would
or could do.
The first sign that Gregor has not actually turned into a giant ... Show more content on

Gregor s isolation starts with him hiding underneath the couch in his room whenever somebody
tried to enter to see him, Gregor had immediately hidden himself under the couch, of course, but
he had to wait until midday before the sister returned (40). Gregor s isolation slowly grows
throughout the story, at first Gregor longs to be able to open the door to see and hear his family,
but at time goes on, he wants the door to be closed and even hisses when the door is open. When
Gregor wants the door to be open the family seems to be content and dealing with the problem at
hand fairly well, but when Gregor wants the door to be closed the family tends to be in turmoil,
fighting and crying with each other over different aspects of Gregor s situation, Gregor hissed
loudly in rage because it hadn t occurred to anyone to shut the door and spare him this scene and
commotion (55). Isolation of a person can be seen as a sign of a mental illness developing or one
being already developed, so it makes sense for Gregor to want to hide from his family and the rest

Gun Possession Laws In America
Weapons have evolved to become more sophisticated every century, especially guns. A gun is a
weapon that can shoot projectiles called bullets. There are many types of guns, such as the
hunting rifle, the hand pistol or a semi automatic pistol. Guns are also more efficient and effective
than knives or arrows, as a weapon since many can shoot from and to a far distance. Some are also
very compact. A guns use can vary from recreational hunting to committing a crime. Since guns
can be very dangerous at times, a licence must be obtained to own a gun. Some countries, such as
Canada, do require a full mental and background check before receiving a license. Some laws,
such as a trigger lock, requires all gun owners to lock and secure their guns... Show more content on

A study conducted with 201 parents and an equal number of their children found that 33 percent
of the children knew the location of the guns in the house, while 22 percent even handled the
weapons, despite their parent s contrary (Boodman). This study showed that even though
parents think their children do not know the locations of the firearms stored in the house, it is
not the case. Miller says, Age was not a factor in whether children had handled weapons. Five
year olds are just as likely to do what 14 year olds do. Even teaching kids to be safe around guns
doesn t work, declared Jon Vernick, This is probably the first time I ve heard that education is a
bad thing and not effective. (qtd. in Boodman) The issue of gun accessibility in homes widened
on May 8, 2006, when a delusional 18 year old, Matthew Kennedy, shot two Fairfax police officers
to death. He was armed with seven guns, including an AK 47 style assault rifle. Authorities said to
have found 15 other guns propped up against walls, and two others were loaded. The risks of guns
being in the hands of youths are being simply underestimated (Boodman). Two other incidents
include a 10 year old who unintentionally shot himself dead while attempting to find his soccer ball
and a 13 year old who shot himself with a semi automatic pistol. Miller states that parents should

Slavery done so we do not need to remember it! Respond to this statement drawing specific

Every society, in the Caribbean or anywhere else, is a product of the particular historical forces that

Usually, the slaves in the lowest rung of this social ladder were the ones who rebelled and often
domestic slaves were the ones who betrayed them by reporting the plots to their master.
(www.guyana.org). As a result of the enslaved Africans in the Caribbean, wherever there was
slavery, there was resistance . (V. shepherd).
Until recently the role of the African people who resisted enslavement and fought to end slavery
in various ways during the Transatlantic Slave Trade had been ignored. It is important to
remember that resistance to slavery had a long history. It began in Africa itself when the
Africans fought against enslavement and continued on board the ships, during the middle
passage and also on the plantations. (N.p, 2009) There were different forms of resistances used
by the enslaved Africans in the Caribbean cam be broken down into two main categories; violent
and non violent resistances or more formerly active and passive resistance. There was also
marronage which can fall into the category of non violent resistance whether it was grand, petit
or maritime marronage. According to Hilary Beckles the many slave revolts and plots between
1638 and 1838 could be conceived as the 200 years war . (Beckles 1991). This was the period
where the resistances and revolts used by enslaved Africans was at its peak, enslaved blacks used
the various forms of resistances in order to show their dissatisfaction and to

Nietzsche s Three Metamorphoses
In Thus Spoke Zarathustra, the first of the three metamorphoses which Nietzsche introduces is
the camel. The camel is a collector of burdens. The camel asks, What is heaviest ... that I may
take it upon me and rejoice in my strength (54). And although I resent the comparison, the camel
was me. All my (teenage) life I bore the weight of the expectations of others with enthusiasm,
letting everyone besides me decide the course of my life, and, as a result, I was becoming bitter
and full of despair. Something had to change. On one hand, my reason for transferring is simple:
the major I d like to switch to isn t offered at my current school. But it s deeper than that. I m
applying to Rutgers because it s the first major step I can take towards taking control of my own
life. I didn t quite grow up like everyone else. I was homeschooled, from the beginning all the
way until graduation. A former elementary school teacher, my mother didn t trust the public
schools. I always performed well, although I didn t have many people to compare myself to, and,
graduation was at 15 (I was eager to get out). I couldn t immediately go to any college I wanted
because I had to stay close to home. I chose Georgia Tech, an engineering school, after it was

supposed to be impressive (graduating at 15, and all) and that the only way I d get the respect

upon my shoulders every burden I thought people would think better of me for carrying. Every
internship, every leadership position, every advanced class, I said yes to them all, because then
maybe (maybe) I could bridge the gap between me and my peers. On paper, this turned out well,

My Passion For Education
My refuge as a child was the library. The walls and isles lined with books, the smell of pages, and
the quietness was my tranquility. I spent my days at the library, reading and playing games and
puzzles; timing and challenging myself to see if I could do them faster and better. I was easily
lost in adventures, ideas, and minds of characters through endless hours of reading. It was this
time spent at the library that ignited my curiosity to understand how things worked, and sparked
my passion for learning. Earning my college degree was one of the proudest achievements in my
life. Despite having an arranged marriage at the age of sixteen, I was determined to continue my
education. By 21, I was divorced, disowned by my family, and living on my own. Still, my
unwavering commitment toward completing my degree led me to look for a flexible position in
healthcare, in order to support myself in pursuing my education. My journey to attain my
baccalaureate degree, regardless of the obstacles from my family or hardships, taught me
perseverance. I knew whatever endeavor I undertook, with perseverance, I would be successful. As
a first generation immigrant, I was a gateway to society for my family, translating and navigating
the education system, hospitals, and officialdom at an early age. These responsibilities, at times
frustrating and difficult, trained me to be resourceful, organized, proactive, and conscientious in
my work and life. I had to be mature to care for my siblings, and

Introduction
Lactococcus lactis is a Gram positive bacterium commonly used to produce buttermilk and
cheese. In most cases they are known to produce Lactic acid. Traditionally regarded as a GRAS
microbe, and with its ability to produce lactic acid, it is one of the most important organisms used
in the dairy industry, used extensively in the early stages of production of several kinds of
cheeses(Siezen, Bayjanov et al. 2010). A good understanding of the genetic and enzymatic
information of the cycles that drive the production of lactic acid in these microbes is essential for
the dairy industry.
The purpose of this report is to discuss about Fructose 1,6 Bisphosphate Aldolase Class II in L.
lactis. However, studies on several other bacteria like E. coli, Streptococcus sp. and other
Lactococcus sp. will also be used as reference containing similar versions of this enzyme taking part
in their cycles.

University of Central Oklahoma
Introduction
Ivan Pavlov is a Russian physiologist. He is well known for his behaviorism and psychosocial
experiments in the psychology society. In 1883, he earned his Doctorate Degree in Medicine at the
Academy of Medical Surgery, University of St. Petersburg (Palmes, 2000). After performing further
studies in Germany, he was appointed to the University of Petersburg, which he held until 1925
(Palmes, 2000, p. 69). He experimented conditioned reflex on dogs, which later became a famous
and useful experiment in psychology, known as classical conditioning. After the experiment, he
continued studying in behaviorism, and made an extension in psychopathology. During his
outstanding scientific career, Pavlov received continuous world acclaim and recognition, (Palmes,
2000, p. 70) and won a Nobel prize in medicine for his studies in 1904.
Classical Conditioning
Classical conditioning is recognized as one of the most important and famous experiments in
behaviorism the scientific study of humans and animals behavior. Classical conditioning is
experiments to find out whether an unusual stimulus could yield to a response in an organism other
than the usual stimulus. The result discovered by this research contributed to the development of

The Importance Of Curriculum Based Assessment
Curriculum based assessment (CBA) is an assessment process that links curriculum content with
assessment. The purposes for CBA is to cultivate effective lesson plans, evaluate students
development in the curriculum, and to determine eligibility (source 1). CBA helps teachers and
other professional specify instructional objectives. Due to direct links between instruction and
assessment, CBA is often used as a frequent measure to determine if changes should be made in
curriculum or the teaching (source1). Intervention, data gathering, and clarification are essential
components of CBA. According to United Stated Department of Education, The No Child Left
Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) measures districts accountability through the implementation of data
collection and report cards (United Department of Education, n.d.). Mississippi Department of
Education (MDE) must meets NCLB reporting requirements by using report cards to collect and
report data about Mississippi schools and districts academic assessments in English and language
arts, reading, math, adequate yearly progression, funding, and qualifications of teachers
(Mississippi Department of Education, 2012). According author Dylan Williams (2011),
assessments are an essential component of effective instruction tracing back from early
experiments in the individualization of learning works of Benjamin Bloom in which reviews the

Symptoms And Treatment Of Trypanosoma Brucei
Trypanosoma brucei is a member of the Trypanosomatidae family, is protozoan of order
Kinetoplastida. They cause African trypanosomiasis or sleeping sickness as it is most commonly
known, a parasitic disease it causes an infection in the brain and the meninges (Stanghellini
Josenando 2001). Trypanosoma brucei have 3 different sub species, these being T. brucei
gambiense which causes chronic trypanosomiasis which has a slow onset in humans, T. brucei
rhodesiense which causes acute trypanosomiasis with a fast onset. With the last sub species being
T. brucei brucei which causes animal African Trypanosomiasis. It is a neglected tropical disease and
is found primarily in the continent of Africa with up to 60 million people affected in 35 African
countries. Failure to treat this is fatal (Ekwanzala et al. 1996), however there are currently four
drugs on the market for the treatment, these being pentamidine, melarsoprol, eflornithine and
suramin (WГ©ry 1994).
There are 2 forms of Trypanosoma brucei, these being bloodstream form and the procyclic form
(Colasante et al. 2006). The bloodstream form should be eradicated by the adaptive immune
response, but this is prevented by the variable surface glycoproteins(Overath et al. 1994). These
are adaptable as they form a new unique set of proteins every 1/100 cell divisions to evade the
surface protein specific response. Trypomastigotes can multiply in the bloodstream as the slender
form where once the population is high enough,

The Different Types Of Legislatures
The different types of legislatures vary from state to state. Professionalism is defined in our
Textbook, Governing States and Localities, as the Process of providing legislators with the
resources they need to make politics their main career, such as making their positions full time or
providing them with full time staff (Smith and Greenblatt). About 50 percent of states are in
between full time, well paid, and large staffed, and part time, low pay, and small staffed. While
states like California, New York, and Pennsylvania are on the high end in terms of professionalism
in legislature, New Hampshire is known as one of the six least professional. In the United States
there are 28 Republican controlled legislatures and 17 Democrat controlled legislatures, and 5
split legislatures ( Full and Part Time Legislatures ). You will soon see that New Hampshire is in
the minority amongst the states in having a split legislature. Currently New Hampshire is one of
four states with a Democratic Governor, Maggie Hassan, and a split legislature ( 2014 State and
Legislative Partisan Composition ).
The New Hampshire capitol building is in the city Concord. New Hampshire is the 42nd biggest
state in terms of population, holding about 1,323,459 people. The state is made up of ten counties
with a total area of 9,304 square miles. It was the 9th state added to the Union on June 21, 1788 (

  • 2. The Charge Of The Light Brigade Literary Devices The Battle of Balaclava of the Crimean War took place on October 25, 1854 (Greenspan). Not even two months later, Lord Alfred Tennyson published his poem The Charge of the Light Brigade (History.com). Although the Poetry for Students author believes that the soldiers loyalty was the most notable feature, the more important aspect was the soldiers bravery (Poetryfor Students). In The Charge of the Light Brigade, Tennyson accentuates the bravery that the soldiers exhibited in their battle through the use of literary devices such as repetition, sensory details, and epistrophe. Poets often utilize different techniques in order to improve their writing or to make an argument. In this case, Tennyson used repetition to emphasize the point ... If the reader ignores every other phrase and only reads the last line of each stanza, he is still able to get a sense of how the battle progresses. When the Light Brigade begins to lose the battle, the phrase shifts to not the six hundred, and then to left of six hundred (Tennyson). It is easy to see from these phrases that the circumstances have changed for the soldiers. It seems like the soldiers have no hope and will be forgotten. The last line of the poem, however, changes everything. Noble six hundred! ; the soldiers will not be forgotten or ridiculed, rather they will be remembered and praised for their bravery, no matter the outcome of the battle. Without this phrase being placed at the end of every paragraph, the reader wouldn t understand that the soldiers extensive bravery was enough for them to be remembered, even though they were unsuccessful in battle. The Charge of the Light Brigade is full of emotion and excitement. Neither of those sensations would have been possible without the use of literary devices. Tennyson used repetition, sensory details, and epistrophe in order to add to the emotional effect, but more importantly to aid him in proving the soldiers bravery. Charles Dickens Stylistic Devices Essay Course Tutor Date Charles Dickens and the making of the modern age Charles Dickens has used various stylistic devices in his literary works that he did between the year 1812 1870. He employed different styles just like any other author to make his point out using changing styles in literature. Most of the imagery and characters in his writings cannot be taken to be literal since they had some hidden meaning in them. He employed the dramatic technique in his novels, which took a form of more of cinema than pure theater like most of the literature works. There are a lot of dramatic picture scenes which ring into our minds when we study his novels like the Fagin s den in the novel of Oliver Twist. These dramatic pictures convey meanings in themselves in this literature. There is also a gradual change in the style that Dickens employ in his works like changes in pronominal reference, elaboration, and nominalisation. This paper analyses the different styles used by Dickens in his novels those before the 1850 and those after 1850. The Industrial Revolution, rise of the middle class, and the coming revolutions in France and America were just some major changes Bentham was able to witness. On a volumetric basis, the energy density of hydrogen is very low under ambient conditions. This presents greater transportation and storage hurdles than for liquid fuels. Storage systems being developed include compressed hydrogen, liquid hydrogen, and physical or chemical bonding between hydrogen and a storage material (for example, metal hydrides). The ability to create hydrogen from a variety of resources and its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hydrogen burns in air at concentrations in the range of 4 to 75 percent by volume (methane burns at 5.3 to 15 percent concentrations by volume). The highest burning temperature of hydrogen is 2,318 degrees Celsius and is reached at 29 percent concentration by volume in air. Hydrogen Benefits Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions Greenhouse gases are thought to be responsible for changes in global climate. They trap excess heat from the sun s infrared radiation that would otherwise escape into space, much like a greenhouse is used to trap heat. When we drive our cars, and light, heat, and cool our homes, we generate greenhouse gases. But if we used hydrogen in very high efficiency fuel cells for our transportation and to generate power, we could significantly reduce the GHG emissions especially if the hydrogen is produced using renewable resources, nuclear power, or clean fossil technologies. Reduce Air Pollution The combustion of fossil fuels by electric power plants, vehicles, and other sources is responsible for most of the smog and harmful particulates in the air. Fuel cells powered by pure hydrogen emit no harmful pollutants. Fuel cells that use a reformer to convert fuels such as natural gas, methanol, or gasoline to hydrogen do emit small amounts of air ... • 8. Constructivist Classroom In The Classroom Having a constructivist classroom can mean many different things. Being a teacher with a constructivist perspective is a different type of teaching style than people are used to. Constructivism, as I understand it, is a way of teaching that has the students learn through their own methods. They are to try to find their own style of learninga concept, whether it be in their heads or with unifix blocks or by drawing pictures. Everyone learns differently and children need to be given the freedom to explore their learning by themselves. Also, students need to be able to construct their own meanings and insights without teacher instruction. Having a constructivist classroom would mean the teacher not giving as much direction as in a traditional classroom. Teachers with this perspective want their students to be mathematizing their learning (FD Ch 1.4). An example of this concept of mathematizing was when in Madeline s classroom. She wanted her students to understand the concept of counting on instead of starting back at 1 and the idea that numbers are nested inside of each other (FD Ch 1.5). Madeline was having her students count red and green beads to make a necklace of 22. Some of them understood that if you had 19 beads, then you only need 3 more to make 22 while others started back at 1 to count to 22 altogether. This sense of numbers enveloped in other larger numbers is a huge concept for young children. They can mimic adults and count objects without a sense of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These decision making processes and their respective outcomes also involve risk. The basic idea behind the theory is that people base their decisions on potential gains and losses, rather than thinking about the final outcome. • 29. A Native View On The Indigenous Perspective Analysis For centuries, humans have successfully dominated the animal kingdom. They have risen above their own physical characteristics and demolished evolutional boundaries. Like a bird soars and a fish swims, humans have surpassed their somatic disadvantages and created synthetic versions of these methods of travel. Humans have been so successful in conquering the mobility and patterns of other animal species that it has led to the societal succession of humans from the animal kingdom. Although evolutionally, Homo sapiens share common ancestors with other animals, it is a common belief that humans are in a class of their own, separated from their primitive counterparts. This is reinforced in the pattern of colonization in humansocieties and their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jason Wyckoff writes in Toward Justice for Animals , that Until fairly recently, philosophers and animal advocates have generally treated the question of what we owe to non human animals as an ethical question, with a primary focus on the treatment of particular animals, rather than as a social or political question, with a focus on the use, exploitation, commodification, or systematic extermination of animals. (Wyckoff 539). In other words, humans have only looked into the morality of animal cruelty on a small scale. Is it right or wrong? If talking about a person killing an animal for no reason, the answer would be yes. But what about the killing of an animal for a materialistic reason, such as the skinning of animals for coats, shoes, or fashion accessories? Because this is done on such a large scale, and has been for a long time, the line between right and wrong has been blurred. Today s society condemns the illegal hunting of a lion, but keeps quiet on the legal killing of other animals to fulfill their avaricious needs. This is when the morality of the subject becomes ... Otherwise, any overuse of coffee is highly likely to cause a great deal of pains and diseases to people s health. Besides, rancid oil contained in coffee is also very dangerous (Joseph, 2014). As a matter of fact, all ground coffee which is being sold at stores consists of rancid oils. Rancid oils are bad for liver and stimulant as well. Seriously, when I go to a baby shower I usually bring diapers, bottles or clothing; not gold, frankincense and myrrh. Block Quote When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. ~ Matthew 2:10 11 (NLT) As a family we go through great lengths to have everything in our home point back to Jesus so that we don t lose sight for why we celebrate Christmas. However, this year the Lord has really been working on our hearts in regards to how we give gifts. Our Tradition of Gift Giving Usually weeks leading up to Christmas we spend time as a family sowing into others, serving in community outreaches, and giving gifts to those God has placed on our hearts. On Christmas morning there is great peace knowing we have made Christ the focus, given to those in need and now we can enjoy this time as a family. We typically start out with communion and prayer before opening gifts. And then our children look for their gifts wrapped in their special wrapping paper. As parents we don t overdue it, we keep it simple and that is usually dictated by a budget. Of those 1.2 million, 13 percent did not know they were infected (Basic Statistics, 2016). These numbers are very startling. HIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus, attacks the body s immune system, more specifically its T cells. With HIV weakening the immune system it can lead to a greater risk for infection, and eventually Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The immune system is not an actual system in the body but more a process of the body. The immune system works through the body s lymphatic system. The human s lymphatic system is an incredible and intricate factory, working day and night to keep the body free of foreign pathogens, bacteria, viruses, and other unwanted guests. Composed of lymph nodes and vessels, carrying lymph and waste though the body to be disposed of, its job is to locate and get rid of anything that has the potential to do damage to the body, or get rid of something that s just not supposed to be there. One specific part of the lymphatic system that helps with the body s defense against foreign pathogens is the T lymphocytes, or T cells. It is pretty much a fact of life, and the current way the U.S. government is attempting to resolve the problem is not the correct way. We are trying to fix a long term problem with a short term solution. Instead of welfare, there are much better ways to solve the problem of poverty. If you are not familiar with how welfare works, you are given a set amount of money each month and you are expected to spend it a certain way. As long as you are satisfying certain requirements such as applying for an amount of jobs each month or spending the money properly, you obtain the money. The unfortunate part is that there is an income bracket that dictates whether or not you qualify for welfare. Once you acquire a job that pays enough, most of the welfare money is taken away. This centivises not earning a job and living off of welfare, which generates a debt ceiling that makes it very difficult for people to escape from. Most people who happen to be in this situation either do not have the means or the motivation to get out of the rutt and live their entire lives in poverty. ... Rose For Emily Respect Respecting the elderly is a lesson that most people are taught early on, and there is good reason for it, but respecting and enabling are not synonymous, especially when heinous crimes are committed. This is exactly what happens in William Faulkner s Southern gothic short story A Rose For Emily or, at least, that is the tale told on the surface. Underneath the story of an old disturbed woman s death is the author s commentary on the nature of Southern pride and tendency to hold on to the past. Much like the in the current day, the respect that old Southern ways demands from the region s inhabitants has not changed and will likely remain a constant fixture for generations to come. There was also marronage which can fall into the category of non violent resistance whether it was grand, petit or maritime marronage. According to Hilary Beckles the many slave revolts and plots between 1638 and 1838 could be conceived as the 200 years war . (Beckles 1991). • 48. Nietzsche s Three Metamorphoses In Thus Spoke Zarathustra, the first of the three metamorphoses which Nietzsche introduces is the camel. The camel is a collector of burdens. The camel asks, What is heaviest ... that I may take it upon me and rejoice in my strength (54). And although I resent the comparison, the camel was me. All my (teenage) life I bore the weight of the expectations of others with enthusiasm, letting everyone besides me decide the course of my life, and, as a result, I was becoming bitter and full of despair. Something had to change. On one hand, my reason for transferring is simple: the major I d like to switch to isn t offered at my current school. But it s deeper than that. I m applying to Rutgers because it s the first major step I can take towards taking control of my own life. I didn t quite grow up like everyone else. I was homeschooled, from the beginning all the way until graduation. A former elementary school teacher, my mother didn t trust the public schools. I always performed well, although I didn t have many people to compare myself to, and, graduation was at 15 (I was eager to get out). I couldn t immediately go to any college I wanted because I had to stay close to home. I chose Georgia Tech, an engineering school, after it was (strongly) suggested to me.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I tried my best not to give off the stereotypical homeschooler vibe. I had it in mind that I was supposed to be impressive (graduating at 15, and all) and that the only way I d get the respect of my older classmates was through excellent performance. So I said yes to everything. I took upon my shoulders every burden I thought people would think better of me for carrying. Every internship, every leadership position, every advanced class, I said yes to them all, because then maybe (maybe) I could bridge the gap between me and my peers. On paper, this turned out well, but on this inside I was stressed, overburdened, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. My Passion For Education My refuge as a child was the library. The walls and isles lined with books, the smell of pages, and the quietness was my tranquility. I spent my days at the library, reading and playing games and puzzles; timing and challenging myself to see if I could do them faster and better. I was easily lost in adventures, ideas, and minds of characters through endless hours of reading. It was this time spent at the library that ignited my curiosity to understand how things worked, and sparked my passion for learning. Earning my college degree was one of the proudest achievements in my life. Despite having an arranged marriage at the age of sixteen, I was determined to continue my education. By 21, I was divorced, disowned by my family, and living on my own. Still, my unwavering commitment toward completing my degree led me to look for a flexible position in healthcare, in order to support myself in pursuing my education. My journey to attain my baccalaureate degree, regardless of the obstacles from my family or hardships, taught me perseverance. I knew whatever endeavor I undertook, with perseverance, I would be successful. As a first generation immigrant, I was a gateway to society for my family, translating and navigating the education system, hospitals, and officialdom at an early age. These responsibilities, at times frustrating and difficult, trained me to be resourceful, organized, proactive, and conscientious in my work and life. I had to be mature to care for my siblings, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chemical Processes in Milk Abbreviations: GRAS: Generally Regarded As Safe FBA: Fructose Bisphosphate Aldolase FBP: Fructose Bisphosphate GAP: Glyceraldehyde 3 Phosphate DHAP: Dihydroxyacetone Phosphate MSA: Multiple Sequence Alignment Introduction Lactococcus lactis is a Gram positive bacterium commonly used to produce buttermilk and cheese. In most cases they are known to produce Lactic acid. Traditionally regarded as a GRAS microbe, and with its ability to produce lactic acid, it is one of the most important organisms used in the dairy industry, used extensively in the early stages of production of several kinds of cheeses(Siezen, Bayjanov et al. 2010). A good understanding of the genetic and enzymatic information of the cycles that drive the production of lactic acid in these microbes is essential for the dairy industry. The purpose of this report is to discuss about Fructose 1,6 Bisphosphate Aldolase Class II in L. lactis. However, studies on several other bacteria like E. coli, Streptococcus sp. and other Lactococcus sp. will also be used as reference containing similar versions of this enzyme taking part in their cycles. The Contributions Of Ivan Pavlov Contributions To Psychology Ivan Pavlov and His Contributions in Psychology Han Seth Lu University of Central Oklahoma Introduction Ivan Pavlov is a Russian physiologist. He is well known for his behaviorism and psychosocial experiments in the psychology society. In 1883, he earned his Doctorate Degree in Medicine at the Academy of Medical Surgery, University of St. Petersburg (Palmes, 2000). After performing further studies in Germany, he was appointed to the University of Petersburg, which he held until 1925 (Palmes, 2000, p. 69). He experimented conditioned reflex on dogs, which later became a famous and useful experiment in psychology, known as classical conditioning. After the experiment, he continued studying in behaviorism, and made an extension in psychopathology. During his outstanding scientific career, Pavlov received continuous world acclaim and recognition, (Palmes, 2000, p. 70) and won a Nobel prize in medicine for his studies in 1904. Classical Conditioning Classical conditioning is recognized as one of the most important and famous experiments in behaviorism the scientific study of humans and animals behavior. Classical conditioning is experiments to find out whether an unusual stimulus could yield to a response in an organism other than the usual stimulus. The result discovered by this research contributed to the development of the concepts in organisms behavioral development and learning process. The classical conditioning experiment ... • 52. The Importance Of Curriculum Based Assessment Curriculum based assessment (CBA) is an assessment process that links curriculum content with assessment. The purposes for CBA is to cultivate effective lesson plans, evaluate students development in the curriculum, and to determine eligibility (source 1). CBA helps teachers and other professional specify instructional objectives. Due to direct links between instruction and assessment, CBA is often used as a frequent measure to determine if changes should be made in curriculum or the teaching (source1). Intervention, data gathering, and clarification are essential components of CBA. According to United Stated Department of Education, The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) measures districts accountability through the implementation of data collection and report cards (United Department of Education, n.d.). Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) must meets NCLB reporting requirements by using report cards to collect and report data about Mississippi schools and districts academic assessments in English and language arts, reading, math, adequate yearly progression, funding, and qualifications of teachers (Mississippi Department of Education, 2012). • 53. Symptoms And Treatment Of Trypanosoma Brucei Trypanosoma brucei is a member of the Trypanosomatidae family, is protozoan of order Kinetoplastida. They cause African trypanosomiasis or sleeping sickness as it is most commonly known, a parasitic disease it causes an infection in the brain and the meninges (Stanghellini Josenando 2001). Trypanosoma brucei have 3 different sub species, these being T. brucei gambiense which causes chronic trypanosomiasis which has a slow onset in humans, T. brucei rhodesiense which causes acute trypanosomiasis with a fast onset. With the last sub species being T. brucei brucei which causes animal African Trypanosomiasis. It is a neglected tropical disease and is found primarily in the continent of Africa with up to 60 million people affected in 35 African countries. Failure to treat this is fatal (Ekwanzala et al. 1996), however there are currently four drugs on the market for the treatment, these being pentamidine, melarsoprol, eflornithine and suramin (WГ©ry 1994). There are 2 forms of Trypanosoma brucei, these being bloodstream form and the procyclic form (Colasante et al. 2006). The bloodstream form should be eradicated by the adaptive immune response, but this is prevented by the variable surface glycoproteins(Overath et al. 1994). These are adaptable as they form a new unique set of proteins every 1/100 cell divisions to evade the surface protein specific response. Trypomastigotes can multiply in the bloodstream as the slender form where once the population is high enough, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. The Different Types Of Legislatures The different types of legislatures vary from state to state. Professionalism is defined in our Textbook, Governing States and Localities, as the Process of providing legislators with the resources they need to make politics their main career, such as making their positions full time or providing them with full time staff (Smith and Greenblatt). About 50 percent of states are in between full time, well paid, and large staffed, and part time, low pay, and small staffed. While states like California, New York, and Pennsylvania are on the high end in terms of professionalism in legislature, New Hampshire is known as one of the six least professional. In the United States there are 28 Republican controlled legislatures and 17 Democrat controlled legislatures, and 5 split legislatures ( Full and Part Time Legislatures ). You will soon see that New Hampshire is in the minority amongst the states in having a split legislature. Currently New Hampshire is one of four states with a Democratic Governor, Maggie Hassan, and a split legislature ( 2014 State and Legislative Partisan Composition ).
