2. The first title appears 22 seconds into the trailer, it reads “THEY ARE NOT WELCOME” this is
written in white capital letters on plain black background. The use of a plain background
automatically highlights the words as being the focus. It also makes the words stand out more
and raises enigma's, like how are they? Why aren’t they welcome? Where aren’t they
welcome? This title is positioned in the middle of a montage of clips of different people talking
about something not belonging here so it can be assumed that “here” is Earth.
3. The next title appears 34 seconds into the trailer it has a similar look to the previous title, except this
time it reads “THEY ARE NOT ACCEPTED” and instead of being white “THEY ARE NOT” begins to turn
red, the colour red for most people is associated with danger. This tells the audience that the reason
the "things” are not wanted is because they are potentially dangerous and a threat to humans, taking
this into consideration the “things” are most likely aliens.
4. The next title appears 49 seconds into the trailer, this time “THEY ARE NOT” is in red the whole time the
title is shown. This confirms what the audience could’ve been wondering after the previous title that
whatever it is that is being spoken about through the trailer so far isn’t human and is in fact alien. The
titles so far have been re-alliterating what is being said through dialogue in the trailer and putting
more of a focus on certain words to possibly hint to the audience what is going on and to break the
trailer up, so its not a continuous montage of people saying fairly similar things.
5. The next set of titling is very different from the
ones previously shown and are more subtitles,
they show what the alien is saying in English.
This lets the audience know that this film is
about aliens that have landed on Earth but
have no way of leaving but couldn’t help but
land here, the reason for that however isn’t
shared.
