3. The Usual Suspects(1995)
The more important actors come
up first during the titling sequence
to show that they are more
popular so therefore audiences will
be interested when seeing their
names. The actors names are close
together which connotes that they
are probably acquaintances in the
film and as it as an organised crime
genre it gets the audience thinking
what they are going to do together.
4. The Usual Suspects(1995)
After the more popular actors are
shown, afterwards it says “Also
Starring” and then even more actors
are screened. This insinuates that
these actors are less important in the
film and therefore are shown after
the main characters.
5. The Usual Suspects(1995)
The dark background then fades away and
Matches appear being lit on fire which
connotes that fire and danger will be
involved in this film.
The titling goes away after the matches
have been lit and the movie then begins.
6. The Godfather(1972)
Mario Puzo’s name is seen above The Godfather
titling. Although he did not even direct the film, he
wrote the screenplay. However his novel was
released about 3 years before the film. As it was a
popular book, seeing the well known Mario Puzo’s
name in the titling makes the audience aware that
the film is of high quality.
The titling “The Godfather” is
shown for around 8 seconds,
nothing else is shown which tells
the audience that it is all about
The Godfather and gives him a
sense of importance, no one else
matters. He is the centre of
attention. Afterwards it gets
straight into the film and no
other titling is shown, This is
done because now the audience
have an insight on who The
Godfather is in this film and it
gets straight into it and gets the
audience focused from the start.
7. The Godfather(1972)
Above the wording “father” there are strings
coming out of the letters with a hand holding
them like a puppet. This connotes that the this
person pulls the string, he is in control and will be
a main role in the film.
8. Goodfellas
Goodfellas is shown in block capitals in the
centre of the screen over a black
background to make it stand out. It is also
in a red colour to connote blood and gore
which tells the audience that there will be
violence in the film.
