Claude Monet Haystacks
Claude Monet was a French artist of the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. He used very gestural brush
strokes in many of his painted, making them less realistic like any of the artist were doing at the time.
He was thought of as the father of Impressionism. Impressionism is taking a image out of the realism
skim and making it looked less real and instead more of a painting. This is done by the long and large
brush strokes in many of Monet s pieces, making them an Impression of an image rather than going
for a photographic look. The movement name actually came from reviewers stating that the work was
an impression of an image rather than its own piece of art.
This piece above Haystacks , relates to capturing the impression of a moment ... Show more content

This made it easy for Mondrian to make the pieces such like haystacks. The elements of the movement
are color, line, and value. In the painting Monet used very bright and dark colors, and used large
brushstroke lines as well. The value is seen in the darkness of the background and the brightness of the
green lilies. This is also seen in many of the other pieces of impressionism in this time period.
Monet employs the principles of organization through scale, emphasis, contrast, and proportion. He
uses the close up scale of the haystack to show its emphasis in the piece. The contrast of the bright sky
on the darker haystack is very defined as well.
He used many elements of design in his piece as well. Line is a huge one; you can see the lines from
the shadows, the parallel lines of the tops of the haystacks, and the landscape horizontal line as well.
He also showed a ton of space since the haystacks are all on the left side, the right is a huge open
space in the painting. Form is also used in the piece, considering the haystacks look 3D to the human
eye. The color and value work together to create the darkness of the haystacks and shadows, and the
light blue of the sky as well. Mass is the last element seen in this piece. The haystacks seem so
massive in the foreground compared to the horizon in the face background of the

Ocean City Visual Pollution
Additionally, many of the locals have issues with the decision to build the wind farm off the coast of
Ocean City. The Ocean City Mayor stated that the residents of the city voiced their large concern with
visual pollution . The residents proposed that the wind farms be built further offshore in hopes to
avoid this issue. Councilman Dennis Dare, also prefers the wind farm be pushed at least eight miles
further offshore to aid in the solution for visual pollution. However, even with the already hefty price
tag of the wind farm, pushing it further out would cost one million dollars per mile. If the wind farm
causes visual pollution, it may result in a decline of tourists and revenue for the city. In 2016, tourists
have spent $16.4 billion dollars at Maryland tourism related businesses, 98% of which are made up of
small local businesses, all of which will suffer great financial droughts in their business. Businesses
such as restaurants, arcades, stores, and hotels will face severe decreases in their profits, because of
the lack of tourism. Tourism is a major generator of jobs, directly employing more than 140,288
Marylanders in 2014, with a payroll of $5.4 billion (Maryland Chamber of Commerce , 2016).
Furthermore, if tourist decide not to visit Ocean City, many jobs will be cut due to the decrease in
demand of people wanting to visit, as well as revenue. Also, tolls surrounding Ocean City may
undergo a slight decline in revenue due to the lack of traffic. The lack of

Steven Truscott s Wrongful Conviction
Introduction
14 year old Steven Truscott gave his classmate Lynne Harper a ride on his bicycle on June 9, 1959.
Truscott had dropped her off before they parted ways. Lynne was reported missing later that night, and
two days later, her body was found on a nearby farm. She was sexually assaulted and strangled to
death. The community was horrified by what happened to this young girl and everyone was
determined to find the killer. Immediately, investigators became fixated on Truscott as the prime
suspect since he was the last person to see Lynne. They didn t consider any other suspects, even
though there was no physical evidence linking him to the murder. He was arrested 24 hours later, and
stood trial as an adult. (Steven Truscott | ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This case is of interest to both myself and society because Truscott was wrongly convicted based on
the limited scientific knowledge available in 1959, and the police s tunnel vision. They were so
adamant on finding the killer that they became fixated on Truscott as the only suspect, and did t bother
widening their search. Because of this, evidence was tampered to frame Truscott. What happened to
Truscott was a miscarriage of justice, which affects society s confidence in the legal system, and it
undermines the criminal justice system s legitimacy.
This case is also of interest because the actual perpetrator was not convicted, because the scientific
techniques that were used in 1959 were so limited. By looking at this, we can clearly see how far
forensic science has come in the past 50 years, and how different the outcome of the case would have
been had this had taken place in the present. We can revisit this old murder case and identify different
scientific tools that we could use today to solve the crime. We can also see how applying the
knowledge we now know about the human body and forensic science can help to exonerate the
innocent, like it did with Truscott, and even help to find the real culprit.
Scientific Methods Used and Evaluation of those Methods
In the 1950s and 1960s, there were many limitations on the science and methodology used in
investigations, because there was a lack of knowledge. For example, forensic

Samuel Morse Accomplishments
Samuel Finley Breese Morse was an American painter and an inventor. After becoming a well known
portrait painter, in his middle age he contributed to the invention of a single wire telegraph system. He
was a co developer of the Morse code and helped to develop a commercial use of telegraphy.
Samuel Morse was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts, being the first child of pastor Jedidiah Morse
who was a geographer and Elisabeth Ann Finley Morse. His father was a great preacher of the
calvinist faith and strongly believed in education within a Federalist framework, alongside the
instillation of Calvinist virtues, morals, and prayers for his first son. After attending Phillips academy

Samuel was then able to create a prototype of the telegraph. In 1836 others started working on the
invention. In 1838 Morse formed a partnership with fellow inventor Alfred Vail, who funded in the
invention and also helped with the dots and dashes for sending signals which is what we know as
morse code. Until 1842, when Morse gained the attention of Maine Congressman, Francis Ormand
Jonathan Smith. The same year Samuel attached two wires between two committee rooms in the
capitol and was able to send code back and forth. With the help of Smith, Samuel won $30,000 for the
demmonstration and to construct a 38 mile telegraph line between Washington D.C., Baltimore, and
Maryland. On May 24, 1844 Samuel tapped his first message which read What hath God wrought! .
Almost as soon as Morse received his patent for the telegraph in 1847, he was hit with litigious claims
from partners and rival inventors. The legal battles culminated in the U.S. Supreme Court decision O
Rielly v.s. Morse in 1854, that stated Morse had been the first to develop a workable telegraph. In
spite of the court s clear ruling, Morse received no official recognition from the U.S.

Summary Of John Yossarian s Catch-22
John Yossarian is a bombardier of the 256th Squadron of the Army Air Forces during World War II.
He is stationed in Pianosa, a small island off the coast of Italy, and has been ordered to bomb enemy
positions. The story begins with Yossarian attempting to escape the war through feigning liver
complications, which could be considered the exposition of this story. Through this experience, the
reader learns about Yossarian s hatred and confusion towards the war and his strong desire to avoid it
at all costs. Yossarian views the war in a different way than most: he is angered by the arbitrary nature
of death and by the fact that at any point, he himself could succumb to the war. It is for this reason that
Yossarian is so affected by the death of Snowden, a soldier who died right in front of him in the air. ...

Through a series of anecdotes that are usually biased towards Yossarian s point of view, the reader is
taken through a series of paradoxes that are each known as a variation of catch 22 that is, illogical and
paradoxical reasoning that justifies reality. The storyline of Catch 22 is not chronological, and offers
the reader bits and pieces of key moments in Yossarian s life at war. Yossarian struggles to survive in a
war with constant obstacles Colonel Cathcart raising the number of missions in a tour of duty, facing
near death experiences, and more. His main goal is to leave the war, and requests to do so until Doc
Daneeka informs him that his request interferes with catch 22. Yossarian s request to leave the war
would deem him as sane, making him perpetually stuck in a war effort that deems those who have the
desire to fly insane. Amidst Yossarian s own stories, the reader is exposed to the troubles of Yossarian

your infant for the first six months For as long as we can remember we are always told to never sleep
with your baby that you could suffocate them by rolling over on them or what not. In a study by
Davies, he found that prior to the 1700 s co sleeping was a normal thing around the world. It was not
until the 1800 s when the western society moved away from co sleeping to an independent sleeping
arrangement claiming the child will be too attached and have security problems; you will never get the

responsive to each other and their movements. The infant and mother changed position of sleeping to

The Red Planet And Space Travel Essay
Humans have been studying space for over two thousand years; whether it be for naming stars,
looking for and creating constellations, studying the moon and its phases, studying other planets in our
solar system; the list goes on. Humans are always interested in space and the many mysteries with it.
Humans love learning more about space so we sent humans to our own moon to help understand more
about space. Yet we had plans to get to Mars four years before we even landed on the moon. How did
we have plans to get to Mars before we even landed on the moon? Wernher von Braun has been
interested in the red planet and space travel since he was in college. Many years after college, Braun
still had his dream of making it to Mars. Braun then wrote a novel in 1949 with plans of traveling to
Mars in 1965. This plan obviously has not happened yet, but humans then gained more interest in the
red planet. Plans of traveling to Mars has been steadily increasing and changing over time; from Braun
s first plans to NASA new plans and the change of technology that has helped us humans get closer to
the dream of stepping foot on the red planet.
We do not know where this journey will end, yet we know this human beings are headed into the
cosmos[space]. Mankind is drawn to the heavens for the same reason we were once drawn into
unknown lands and across the open sea. We chose to explore space because doing so improves our
lives and lifts our national spirit. (Doeden, 10) This quote came from

that one has to consider the issue of; finance, resources, staff, culture, information, not knowing the

thing one should consider before setting up a business is the issue of finance. Does the person really
have enough finance to fund the length of his or her business project? If yes, he/she should continue, if
not, he/she should either borrow money from the bank or look for government funded business grant.

The Role Of Richard III And The Disappearance Of The...
Historians have disagreed about the role of Richard III in the disappearance of the Princes in the
tower. Why has history judged Richard to be guilty of their murder?
Introduction
In 1483, the Yorkist king, Edward IV, died suddenly, leaving his young son Edward V to inherit the
throne. The late king s brother, Richard, Duke of Gloucester, was made Lord Protector of England
until Edward s coronation and majority, and as was the standard procedure at the time, the new king
and his brother Richard, Duke of York were taken into the Tower of London to await the coronation.
During this time, however, the marriage of Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville was declared
illegitimate, along with their children. This meant Edward could no longer inherit the throne, and
Richard and Anne Neville were instead crowned. After the Princes were declared illegitimate, it is
claimed they were never seen again. Since then, historians have disagreed about the role of Richard III
in their disappearance, with the majority claiming only Richard could have done it. Other historians
have produced differing theories, with the most improbable being that Henry VII found the Princes
alive after his victory at Bosworth, and others claiming the Princes had never been killed at all.
Despite these other theories, history has judged Richard to be guilty of the young Princes murder,
mostly due to purely circumstantial evidence, as only a few records of the events survive, and those
that do are mainly biased being

J.B. Priestley s An Inspector Calls Essay
J.B. Priestley s An Inspector Calls
In the play An inspector calls by JB priestly, there are a range of dramatic devices used, you can see
foreshadowing; where the characters hint at things that you see or learn later. There are the entrances
and exit; the dramatic ways that these are used. Also the climatic curtain is used, leaving the readers
on a cliff hanger. And finally dramatic irony and denouement are used. All these dramatic devices add
up to a brilliant play, about a family who are having a quite night in, when they are disturbed at the
dinner table, by a police inspector directing an inquiry on a girl s suicide, and as the story unravels we
learn about each characters part to play. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally we learn that Sheila has a bad temper when Eric says, She s got a nasty temper sometimes…
(Page5) This is a crucial point, as her temper plays an important part later in the play.
Throughout the play the author, JB Priestly uses entrances and exits to dramatically make characters
enter or leave scenes. The first entrance (page10) is the inspectors. My first impression of the
inspector when he first arrives in the book, is that of a very serious and clever man, a man that takes
his work very seriously, we see an example of this when Mr. Birling says, Have a glass of port or a
little whiskey? and the Inspector replies, No, thank you, Mr. Birling. I m on duty. This shows that he
abides by the rules or his work. I think that the other characters where a little bit surprised at the news
of an inspector arriving, as one would be if an unexpected inspector arrived. This is shown when Mr.
Birling says, An inspector? What kind of inspector?
Sheila makes the next dramatic move (page21), this time an exit, when she runs out of the room after
seeing a picture of Eva Smith. The inspector shows her the photo and she runs away as we can see
here, He produces the photograph. She looks at it closely, recognises it with a little cry, gives a half
stifled sob and then runs out. This tells the audience that Sheila has seen this girl before and

The proliferation of marketing and advertising, coupled with the onslaught of millions of media
channels in today s world, has given cause for consumers to tune out and effectively avoid a great deal
of traditional supplier driven messaging. The creation of technologies such as PVRs, satellite radio
and Internet ad blocking software are driving a fundamental shift in the way the public consumes
media and the advertising often tied to it. Television ads, radio spots, online ads and even emails are
facing increasing competition for effectively capturing the viewer s attention and provide positive ROI
for the marketer. This competition, coupled with the rising cost of media buys, has caused marketers
to search for an alternative means to reach the customer. Viral marketing is an attractive solution
because it utilizes the free endorsement of the individual rather than purchase of mass media to spread
the word. Because the distribution model is free, viral can potentially be lower cost and more effective

The, The Royal Slave, A True History
People of certain social classes sometimes have stereotyped characteristics pinned to them. Rich
people might be seen as snobbish while poor people might be seen as unmotivated to improve
themselves. The characters in Oroonoko, The Royal Slave, A True History, also have characteristics
based on the social class to which they belong. During the eighteenth century, social class became a
topic of interest in Britain. The characters in Oroonoko can be grouped into three social classes based
on the level of power they have. One class is the rulers such as the King of Coramatien and Deputy
Governor Byam. Next are the people who are neither rulers nor slaves such as Aboan, Mr. Trefry, and
Colonel Martin. Finally, there are the slaves. Because of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator says that when the King saw how Imoinda, a young woman with whom he has fallen in
love, reacted to the gift he sent her in Oroonoko s name, it gave him some affliction, but he salved it
(Behn 2143). Here, the narrator explains that the King was very upset when he saw that Imoinda was
in love with Oroonoko, but he ridded himself of these sad feelings by sending her the royal veil which
forced her to become one of his wives. This shows that the King has a selfish nature because he could
not overcome his desire for Imoinda and let her marry Oroonoko. This selfishness leads him to betray
Oroonoko. Both the King and Byam show disloyalty since they betray Oroonoko which establishes
negative character. This disloyalty is also distinct to those who are of a high social class position
because they are deliberately betraying Oroonoko as opposed to doing it unintentionally. Because
negative traits, such as disloyalty, are given to characters who have governmental power, a link
between negative character and high social class characters can be established. Another link which can
be seen between social class positon and character is through the characters who are neither rulers nor
slaves having positive character traits. These characters are a middle class by the fact that they do not
rule a colony or country, but they also are not slaves. Also, all of these characters exhibit positive

America Has Too Much Gun Control Essay
When a person hears the word gun, he or she usually associates the purposes and uses of a gun with
crime related issues and plots of terrorism because of modern culture. They are used for that purpose
by some people, but those people do not represent all aspects of the relationship of firearms to society.
In the United States, many laws have been passed in order to regulate the use of guns by certain
individuals, along with the establishment of associations that specialize in the usage and handling of
firearms. With the regulation of firearms passed by the government, guns has become an integral part
of modern society, attributing atrocities such as homicide with them, but also providing a portable
means of protection. The addition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under the United States Constitution, Article V, Amendment II, all people have the right to bear arms,
allowing them to own a gun and use it, but the government believes some types of guns, such as
automatic rifles, should not be accessible to people, violating the Constitution ( Gun Control ). On
February 28, 1994, the Brady Bill was passed by congress to add more conditions on firearms by
establishing a five day waiting period to people purchasing a handgun in order to give enough time for
a licensed dealer to conduct a background check on the customer (Agresti). Not only do customers
have to wait additional days in order to receive their handguns for protection, but they are evaluated
by a stranger to see if they are competent enough to do as much as even own a gun. Associations such
as the National Rifle Association (NRA) have been established in order to comply with government
concerns of firearms by creating licenses for gun owners and teaching proper use of firearms. As of

Coffee Is The Best Caffeinated Beverage Of The World Essay
Before the sunrise, when the world is still asleep, my father awakens me by the rich roasted strong
smell of espresso. Watching how it awakens him with joy from every sip brought happiness to
moments I had with him. That scent from a child is now a comfort of home. These moments are just
one of the many beauties of coffee. Coffee s diversity can accommodate any individual s life style and
taste. This naturally memorable caffeinated drink is well known for many cultures and is highly
effective. Coffee is the best caffeinated beverage in the world.
This diverse beverage is made from roasted ground seeds of a tropical shrub. The most common
species of bean is from Ethiopia which is located in western and central Africa. It is well known
because many of these coffee beans are planted in over seventy countries, making it one of the most
popular beverages in the world. The dried and roasted coffee seeds are ground and moistened by hot
water passed through to become a liquid brew. The beverage is now drinkable and stimulating to
people because of its natural high impact of caffeine that is why we become so energetic after
consuming a drink. Coffee is known everywhere compared to any other drink; it is something that
different cultures have in common. That is why coffee benefits a way of living by bringing completely

Fast food only represents about five percent of restaurant sales, which means that the Belgian fast food
sector still lags behind many of its European neighbors. As traditional eating habits change with an
increasingly diverse Belgian population, an excellent opportunity exists for American fast food
franchises to expand into Belgium.
Fast food has been able to compete with other restaurants because of their perceived fast service, clean
facilities, reliable taste and affordable prices. The most popular fast food items are hamburgers and
pizza, but Belgians are generally open to new tastes and are willing to support new fast food concepts.
The best sales prospects are products delivered to the home and office.
Restaurants, cafes and taverns, and friteries are the three basic types of Belgian establishments that

The Dual Coding Theory Of The Human Mind And Its Functions
Assignment introduction
Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, including how it influences our
behaviour. Cognitive psychology is the study of human mental processes and their role in thinking,
feeling and behaving. It studies processes like attention, language use, memory, thinking, problem
solving, perception and creativity. Memory is the mental capacity to retain and revive events, facts,
impressions etc or recall and recognise previous experiences. We can remember information for
seconds, hours, weeks, months or years after the physical stimuli that was present has ceased to occur
or exist. This study will be based upon the dual coding theory (Pavio 1971) which was a theory that

Bower studied the effect of creating a visual image to assist verbal recall. In one experiment, the
participants were given out 100 different cards, one at a time which each had two unrelated words on
it , like cat and tree . The participants either had to remember the pair or create a visual scene in which
both objects were featured. When the participants were given a cued recall test (given the first of each
pair of words), the group who created a visual scene recalled 80% of the target words, whereas those
who did not remember an image could only recall 45%. It was proven that the images which were
more unusual were easier to remember, for example it would be better to visualise a cat living inside a
tree, rather than a cat climbing up a tree as the first scene is more unlikely and bizarre.
Experimental Hypothesis:
Individuals are more likely to recall words if it is given in picture form rather than just the word
shown alone.
Null Hypothesis:
Being shown images compared to just being showing the word does not change an individual s ability
to recall the word.
Method
The method of the study was to test whether being shown images to remember a word improves recall
of the given words in lab conditions.
Design
The design of this experiment was independent measures under lab conditions to ensure that the most
valid and comparable results were provided. Before the controlled experiment took

Domestic Terrorism And Its Effect On Terrorism Essay
Domestic terrorism consists of violations against federal and state law that put humans into danger.
The purpose of domestic terrorism is to influence or to instill fear into the population and government.
Terrorism comes in forms of gun violence, assassinations, and destruction (1). Since 1970, there have
been 2,608 attacks and 226 fatal attacks up until 2011 (3). In 1867, the development of dynamite
contributed to increasing terrorism, and radicals have used explosives to bring attention to political
issues within the country. This invention led to the Haymarket Affair, Los Angeles Times, and the
Preparedness Day bombings (2). What has further caused domestic terrorism has been the argument
over who is an American. This explains the emergence of the Boston Tea Party and the white
supremacy of the Ku Klux Klan which both occurred to claim what being an authentic American
means (3). After the Cold war, domestic intelligence and law enforcement suppressed terrorist plots,
but since the leader of al Qaeda increased website usage in 2003, more internet terrorist sites have
grown. In 2009, the FBI stated that there were approximately 15,000 websites that advocated terrorism
with 10,000 sites still active on 80% of U.S based servers. (4) An example of an attack was the
Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 which resulted in 168 people dead and 600 people injured; the
motivation for this was to show the opposition against the U.S government by bombing the Alfred P.

realizes that her dog Pookie is also gone. As Bonnie, her mom, and the detective try to piece things

background information to the reader. The author uses Foreshadowing for a number of different
reasons including giving background information, to show the character s motivation, to build a mood

throughout the book is foreshadowing. The temporary rose tattoo on his left biceps showed below his

building a mood. When she does this, she makes it seem as if something bad is about to happen. It
creates a very suspenseful and eerie mood. Another goal the author achieves by using foreshadowing
in the beginning of the book is to provide the reader s with background information. When the author

The Cycle Of The Hydrologic Cycle
The hydrologic cycle, also known as the water cycle, is a continuous rotation of water changing states
through the Earth, ocean and atmosphere in a circulating system (Watts Forbes, 2011; US Department
of Commerce, n.d; National Geographic Society, 2013). The water cycle alters throughout different
locations due to weather patterns and climate around the world (Watts Forbes, 2011). The major
processes that make up the hydrologic cycle are evaporation, transpiration, condensation,
precipitation, and runoff, with many further processes as seen in Appendix 1.1 and simplified in
Appendix 1.2.
Evaporation
Evaporation, in general, involves a substance changing its physical state from a liquid to a gas (US
Department of Commerce, n.d; National Geographic Society, 2013; Northwest River Forecast Centre
[NRFC], n.d). An example of this is when the body heats up during exercise or due to temperature,
and releases sweat to try and cool down and producing water onto the skin (US Department of
Commerce, n.d). Energy is required for evaporation to occur, and this energy source can come from
the atmosphere, entities such humans, or in the case of the water cycle, the sun is the source of energy
(US Department of Commerce, n.d). During the hydrologic cycle, evaporation occurs when the sun
interacts with liquid water such has lakes and rivers, the ocean and soil, to cause water particles to
become water vapour by heating the water (National Geographic Society, n.d; Miller Spoolman,

My Leadership Philosophy
With regards to leadership, my strength lies in my desire to help everyone. A leader has to put the
group first and make every decision with that principle in mind. When freshman approach me in the
hallway, eyes wide with terror and uncertainty, I stop and ask them what they need. If the track team
needs and extra runner for a race, even if I despise that race, I ll step up. My philosophy is to lead by
example, not by command. I ve found that simply telling people what to do is the most ineffective
way to actually get them to do it. For example, I am very passionate about track and want the track
team to do extremely well at state this year. Instead of giving a rousing speech about courage and
strength, I started training months in advance. By making myself better, I encourage others to be better
too. I m not the best on the team by a longshot, but by working hard I inspire others to be better than
me. My goal by the end of track season is not to be the best on the team, but for the rest of the team to
be better because of me. By doing that extra lap I hope to inspire others to do the same. ... Show more

Taking that final step and trusting that your decision is correct scares me. What if everyone suffers
because I m wrong? To overcome this, the only thing I can do is to take the leap. I will fail, and I have
failed many times already, but I ve also made the correct choices. By practicing failure, I m mastering
success. Another weakness of mine is the notion that my idea is always a good one. This sometimes
leads me to believe that, in a group project or something of the sort, we should always use my idea. In
a recent group project I took complete control without even realizing it. When I did realize it, I told
the group that I was sorry and stepped down in order to let everyone s ideas flow too. Instantly the

inflict a heavy cost. The authors continue by positing a dilemma that sounds nearly identical to Adler .
They assert that terrorists use a strategy of provocation that is designed to induce a violent response,
which will in turn radicalize population and lead to them supporting the terrorists.
Additionally, John Mueller lambasts what he labels as the socially constructed terrorist industry, which
he attacks for artificially inflating concerns over terrorist attacks. Instead, Mueller confirms that the
damage caused by terrorism is not materially significant but stems primarily from the fear that it
creates. Violent retaliation is viewed as a form of self flagellation that provides the terrorists with
exactly what they want. As mentioned, realist definitions of power, self interest and rationality lack
explanatory prowess when non state actors are able to subvert states thanks largely in part to the use of
suicide terrorism. The proliferation of terrorist groups and their use of suicide tactics in many ways
defies realist expectations and conclusions.

Patients are becoming armed with devices that can empower, monitor, track and even measure their
disease progression creating interventions when necessary to optimize the health and response time to
disease. New devices and tools technology into a smartphone for example, have the potential to
become an extension of a patient s health care provider and already change the way in which patients
interact with the medical system. These various devices can allow public health officials to better
monitor and screen for diseases in large populations and ultimately help improve preventive strategies
and access to care for millions of Americans. This is all a critical part of improving outcomes for
patients going forward.
As pharmacists we are aware that the management of COPD is multi pronged approach. Treatment

In the Archaic Age, beauty is sought by the citizens of Greece all throughout the various forms of
artistic expression. For example, Greek sculptures before the Archaic Age were widely influenced by
the mesopotamians and egyptians, with rigid postures and ceremonious gestures. However, in the
Archaic Age, we see a little more change throughout the art of sculpting in Greece. Greek sculptors
began incorporating lively, athletic, and healthy attributes to the work of art, such as the Anavysos

Mister Pip written by Lloyd Jones is a novel recounted by the protagonist Matilda. Set in 1990 s

rages between the rebels and the Redskins in her homeland. Mr. Watts or Pop eye is given the role
teaching the village children, being the only educated, and consequentially, white man left on the

She continues to try and save her daughter, the power of unconditional love overcoming their even
more obviously marked differences.
Dolores then tries to impose her faith on Matilda in hope she will begin to value God over Great
Expectations to lead her away from the white world. Dolores comes unannounced to Matilda s class
and tries to educate the children on the only thing she knows well: the importance of faith she didn t
know anything outside what she knew from the bible but as Mr. Watts gets further through the novel
Pip becomes yet even more important to Matilda. Dolores never stops in trying to steer Matilda away
from the white world. The world she knows barely anything about, the world she thinks is evil.
Despite their ever increasing differences Dolores will always continue to protect Matilda from what
she believes is bad.
We see the power of unconditional love shown again through Matilda and Dolores s contrast when
Matilda discovers Great Expectations to have been stolen by her Mother. When Dolores hides Great
Expectations much strife is caused. The Red Skins visit Matilda s island, threatening to burn all of
their possessions unless they give up Pip who is only a character from a book and cannot be given up.
Because the book is not where it is supposed to be Pip cannot be explained. The redskins burn the
whole villages possessions because Dolores fails to come forward and admit to what she had done in

Marijuana Use among High School Seniors in the United States
Marijuana Use Marijuana use among high school seniors in the United States has been on the rise
causing greater concerns for addiction and health concerns among teenagers. According to the CDC,
in 2010, marijuana use among high school seniors rose to 21.4%, with 25.2% being male users and
16.9% being female (Health, United States, 2011, 2011). This shows a steady increase every year
starting in 2007 where 18.8% of high school seniors were using marijuana, with 22.3% were male and
15.0% were female. Ages as young as 12 years old also showed the same statistical trends, even in
Middle Schools. Up to 1920, there were isolated accounts of marijuana and those that did show up in
the press showed marijuana being smoked for recreational purposes (Harrison, 2010). After
prohibition, marijuana markets started to emerge in cities. Harry Anslinger, Federal Narcotics
Commissioner, alleged marijuana as being responsible for violent cases and waged war against
marijuana in 1933. As a result, 46 states enacted anti marijuana legislation. The Marijuana Tax Act of
1937 placed marijuana with Schedule I drugs that included opium and cocaine. The Boggs Bill of
1951 and the Narcotic Drug Act of 1956 served to establish severe penalties for violation of drug laws.

international narcotic control. Provisions were made for cannabis. The Controlled Substances Act of

Activity Series Lab Report
Before conducting the Activity Series Lab, participants must know how to protect themselves against
the possible dangers that the hazardous materials from the lab can cause. Some of the things they must
understand include proper safety precautions and how to protect against corrosive or poisonous
materials. For instance, Copper (II) Chloride, one of the solutions used in the lab, can cause severe eye
irritation. One way to protect against this is by wearing goggles, or other eye protection equipment.
Another substance used in the lab is Silver Nitrate, a body tissue irritant. Participants must wash off
the substance quickly if it comes into contact with their skin to prevent any serious damage. Not only
is it vital to know how to be safe around the chemicals, but to fully understand the lab, participants
must be able to recognize the clues to a chemical change. There are five clues that help indicate if a
chemical change occurs. The clues to a chemical change include a change of colour, the forming of a

Neil Shubin s Your Inner Fish Essay
Review With a writing style that is enabled by an obvious adoration of the subject, Neil Shubin
explores the predecessors of the human species in his book Your Inner Fish. Shubin draws upon his
unique background as a paleontologist, embryologist, and geneticist to trace defining phenotypical
traits that are inherent to humans to even the simplest of organisms. He delves into the difficult details
of evolution that have long remained mysteries until recent years, specifically analyzing the transition
from water to land, the rise of vision, basic body plans and scent. The magic of the book is that
although these discoveries required the brightest minds of the past two centuries, Shubin unwraps
them in a delightful manner that is interesting to both high school student and university professor.
Your Inner Fish is meant to be persuasive, to educate and formulate opinions. By tracking these
seeming complexities of human development, Shubin attempts to persuade a broad audience in the
veracity of the common ancestor. Although the premise of the book is based on evolution, Shubin s
purpose in writing the book cannot be defined by such broad terms. He is not interested in simply
proving that evolution occurs; in fact, he treats such a consensus as being already understood. It is the
actual mechanism that interests Shubin, the path that was taken by the common ancestor that
eventually whereon organisms diverged and became the human species. The beginning of the book

I believe this is the initial theme because throughout the poem our main character seems to be haunted

main character calls for he name even though he knows that she is not there. I believe that these
feelings may have been triggered by the enviorment that he was in. While he was in the study our
main character referenced the purple curtains. These purple curtains may have something that Lenore

Considered as one of the greatest and influential in African Americans in history, Malcon Little was

  • 2. Claude Monet Haystacks Claude Monet was a French artist of the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. He used very gestural brush strokes in many of his painted, making them less realistic like any of the artist were doing at the time. He was thought of as the father of Impressionism. Impressionism is taking a image out of the realism skim and making it looked less real and instead more of a painting. This is done by the long and large brush strokes in many of Monet s pieces, making them an Impression of an image rather than going for a photographic look. The movement name actually came from reviewers stating that the work was an impression of an image rather than its own piece of art. This piece above Haystacks , relates to capturing the impression of a moment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This made it easy for Mondrian to make the pieces such like haystacks. The elements of the movement are color, line, and value. In the painting Monet used very bright and dark colors, and used large brushstroke lines as well. The value is seen in the darkness of the background and the brightness of the green lilies. This is also seen in many of the other pieces of impressionism in this time period. Monet employs the principles of organization through scale, emphasis, contrast, and proportion. He uses the close up scale of the haystack to show its emphasis in the piece. The contrast of the bright sky on the darker haystack is very defined as well. He used many elements of design in his piece as well. Line is a huge one; you can see the lines from the shadows, the parallel lines of the tops of the haystacks, and the landscape horizontal line as well. He also showed a ton of space since the haystacks are all on the left side, the right is a huge open space in the painting. Form is also used in the piece, considering the haystacks look 3D to the human eye. The color and value work together to create the darkness of the haystacks and shadows, and the light blue of the sky as well. Mass is the last element seen in this piece. The haystacks seem so massive in the foreground compared to the horizon in the face background of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ocean City Visual Pollution Additionally, many of the locals have issues with the decision to build the wind farm off the coast of Ocean City. The Ocean City Mayor stated that the residents of the city voiced their large concern with visual pollution . The residents proposed that the wind farms be built further offshore in hopes to avoid this issue. Councilman Dennis Dare, also prefers the wind farm be pushed at least eight miles further offshore to aid in the solution for visual pollution. However, even with the already hefty price tag of the wind farm, pushing it further out would cost one million dollars per mile. If the wind farm causes visual pollution, it may result in a decline of tourists and revenue for the city. In 2016, tourists have spent $16.4 billion dollars at Maryland tourism related businesses, 98% of which are made up of small local businesses, all of which will suffer great financial droughts in their business. Businesses such as restaurants, arcades, stores, and hotels will face severe decreases in their profits, because of the lack of tourism. Tourism is a major generator of jobs, directly employing more than 140,288 Marylanders in 2014, with a payroll of $5.4 billion (Maryland Chamber of Commerce , 2016). Furthermore, if tourist decide not to visit Ocean City, many jobs will be cut due to the decrease in demand of people wanting to visit, as well as revenue. Also, tolls surrounding Ocean City may undergo a slight decline in revenue due to the lack of traffic. The lack of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Steven Truscott s Wrongful Conviction Introduction 14 year old Steven Truscott gave his classmate Lynne Harper a ride on his bicycle on June 9, 1959. Truscott had dropped her off before they parted ways. Lynne was reported missing later that night, and two days later, her body was found on a nearby farm. She was sexually assaulted and strangled to death. The community was horrified by what happened to this young girl and everyone was determined to find the killer. Immediately, investigators became fixated on Truscott as the prime suspect since he was the last person to see Lynne. They didn t consider any other suspects, even though there was no physical evidence linking him to the murder. He was arrested 24 hours later, and stood trial as an adult. (Steven Truscott | ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This case is of interest to both myself and society because Truscott was wrongly convicted based on the limited scientific knowledge available in 1959, and the police s tunnel vision. They were so adamant on finding the killer that they became fixated on Truscott as the only suspect, and did t bother widening their search. Because of this, evidence was tampered to frame Truscott. What happened to Truscott was a miscarriage of justice, which affects society s confidence in the legal system, and it undermines the criminal justice system s legitimacy. This case is also of interest because the actual perpetrator was not convicted, because the scientific techniques that were used in 1959 were so limited. By looking at this, we can clearly see how far forensic science has come in the past 50 years, and how different the outcome of the case would have been had this had taken place in the present. We can revisit this old murder case and identify different scientific tools that we could use today to solve the crime. We can also see how applying the knowledge we now know about the human body and forensic science can help to exonerate the innocent, like it did with Truscott, and even help to find the real culprit. Scientific Methods Used and Evaluation of those Methods In the 1950s and 1960s, there were many limitations on the science and methodology used in investigations, because there was a lack of knowledge. On May 24, 1844 Samuel tapped his first message which read What hath God wrought! . Almost as soon as Morse received his patent for the telegraph in 1847, he was hit with litigious claims from partners and rival inventors. The legal battles culminated in the U.S. Supreme Court decision O Rielly v.s. Morse in 1854, that stated Morse had been the first to develop a workable telegraph. He is stationed in Pianosa, a small island off the coast of Italy, and has been ordered to bomb enemy positions. The story begins with Yossarian attempting to escape the war through feigning liver complications, which could be considered the exposition of this story. Through this experience, the reader learns about Yossarian s hatred and confusion towards the war and his strong desire to avoid it at all costs. Yossarian views the war in a different way than most: he is angered by the arbitrary nature of death and by the fact that at any point, he himself could succumb to the war. It is for this reason that Yossarian is so affected by the death of Snowden, a soldier who died right in front of him in the air. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yossarian struggles to survive in a war with constant obstacles Colonel Cathcart raising the number of missions in a tour of duty, facing near death experiences, and more. His main goal is to leave the war, and requests to do so until Doc Daneeka informs him that his request interferes with catch 22. To observe they used many tools such as polygraph to record mother and infants heart rate, breathing rhythms, body temperature, the nursing cycles and even monitored their brain waves all of this along with watching their test subjects simultaneously on an infrared video monitor. What they found was quite unique, the infant and mother were highly responsive to each other and their movements. The infant and mother changed position of sleeping to face each other. They wake more frequently to nurse, and about twice as much as an independent sleeper and nurse three times longer but still get more sleep co sleeping than independent sleepers, ... • 11. The Red Planet And Space Travel Essay Humans have been studying space for over two thousand years; whether it be for naming stars, looking for and creating constellations, studying the moon and its phases, studying other planets in our solar system; the list goes on. Humans are always interested in space and the many mysteries with it. Humans love learning more about space so we sent humans to our own moon to help understand more about space. Yet we had plans to get to Mars four years before we even landed on the moon. How did we have plans to get to Mars before we even landed on the moon? Wernher von Braun has been interested in the red planet and space travel since he was in college. Many years after college, Braun still had his dream of making it to Mars. Braun then wrote a novel in 1949 with plans of traveling to Mars in 1965. This plan obviously has not happened yet, but humans then gained more interest in the red planet. Plans of traveling to Mars has been steadily increasing and changing over time; from Braun s first plans to NASA new plans and the change of technology that has helped us humans get closer to the dream of stepping foot on the red planet. We do not know where this journey will end, yet we know this human beings are headed into the cosmos[space]. Mankind is drawn to the heavens for the same reason we were once drawn into unknown lands and across the open sea. We chose to explore space because doing so improves our lives and lifts our national spirit. (Doeden, 10) This quote came from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Role Of Richard III And The Disappearance Of The... Historians have disagreed about the role of Richard III in the disappearance of the Princes in the tower. Why has history judged Richard to be guilty of their murder? Introduction In 1483, the Yorkist king, Edward IV, died suddenly, leaving his young son Edward V to inherit the throne. The late king s brother, Richard, Duke of Gloucester, was made Lord Protector of England until Edward s coronation and majority, and as was the standard procedure at the time, the new king and his brother Richard, Duke of York were taken into the Tower of London to await the coronation. During this time, however, the marriage of Edward IV and Elizabeth Woodville was declared illegitimate, along with their children. This meant Edward could no longer inherit the throne, and Richard and Anne Neville were instead crowned. After the Princes were declared illegitimate, it is claimed they were never seen again. Since then, historians have disagreed about the role of Richard III in their disappearance, with the majority claiming only Richard could have done it. Other historians have produced differing theories, with the most improbable being that Henry VII found the Princes alive after his victory at Bosworth, and others claiming the Princes had never been killed at all. Despite these other theories, history has judged Richard to be guilty of the young Princes murder, mostly due to purely circumstantial evidence, as only a few records of the events survive, and those that do are mainly biased being ... Priestley s An Inspector Calls In the play An inspector calls by JB priestly, there are a range of dramatic devices used, you can see foreshadowing; where the characters hint at things that you see or learn later. There are the entrances and exit; the dramatic ways that these are used. Also the climatic curtain is used, leaving the readers on a cliff hanger. And finally dramatic irony and denouement are used. All these dramatic devices add up to a brilliant play, about a family who are having a quite night in, when they are disturbed at the dinner table, by a police inspector directing an inquiry on a girl s suicide, and as the story unravels we learn about each characters part to play. ... Finally we learn that Sheila has a bad temper when Eric says, She s got a nasty temper sometimes… (Page5) This is a crucial point, as her temper plays an important part later in the play. Throughout the play the author, JB Priestly uses entrances and exits to dramatically make characters enter or leave scenes. The first entrance (page10) is the inspectors. My first impression of the inspector when he first arrives in the book, is that of a very serious and clever man, a man that takes his work very seriously, we see an example of this when Mr. Birling says, Have a glass of port or a little whiskey? and the Inspector replies, No, thank you, Mr. Birling. I m on duty. This shows that he abides by the rules or his work. I think that the other characters where a little bit surprised at the news of an inspector arriving, as one would be if an unexpected inspector arrived. This is shown when Mr. Birling says, An inspector? What kind of inspector? Sheila makes the next dramatic move (page21), this time an exit, when she runs out of the room after seeing a picture of Eva Smith. The inspector shows her the photo and she runs away as we can see here, He produces the photograph. She looks at it closely, recognises it with a little cry, gives a half stifled sob and then runs out. This tells the audience that Sheila has seen this girl before and ... Rich people might be seen as snobbish while poor people might be seen as unmotivated to improve themselves. The characters in Oroonoko, The Royal Slave, A True History, also have characteristics based on the social class to which they belong. During the eighteenth century, social class became a topic of interest in Britain. The characters in Oroonoko can be grouped into three social classes based on the level of power they have. The narrator says that when the King saw how Imoinda, a young woman with whom he has fallen in love, reacted to the gift he sent her in Oroonoko s name, it gave him some affliction, but he salved it (Behn 2143). Here, the narrator explains that the King was very upset when he saw that Imoinda was in love with Oroonoko, but he ridded himself of these sad feelings by sending her the royal veil which forced her to become one of his wives. This shows that the King has a selfish nature because he could not overcome his desire for Imoinda and let her marry Oroonoko. This selfishness leads him to betray Oroonoko. Both the King and Byam show disloyalty since they betray Oroonoko which establishes negative character. This disloyalty is also distinct to those who are of a high social class position because they are deliberately betraying Oroonoko as opposed to doing it unintentionally. Because negative traits, such as disloyalty, are given to characters who have governmental power, a link between negative character and high social class characters can be established. Another link which can be seen between social class positon and character is through the characters who are neither rulers nor slaves having positive character traits. When the participants were given a cued recall test (given the first of each pair of words), the group who created a visual scene recalled 80% of the target words, whereas those who did not remember an image could only recall 45%. It was proven that the images which were more unusual were easier to remember, for example it would be better to visualise a cat living inside a tree, rather than a cat climbing up a tree as the first scene is more unlikely and bizarre. Experimental Hypothesis: Individuals are more likely to recall words if it is given in picture form rather than just the word shown alone. The purpose of domestic terrorism is to influence or to instill fear into the population and government. Terrorism comes in forms of gun violence, assassinations, and destruction (1). Since 1970, there have been 2,608 attacks and 226 fatal attacks up until 2011 (3). In 1867, the development of dynamite contributed to increasing terrorism, and radicals have used explosives to bring attention to political issues within the country. This invention led to the Haymarket Affair, Los Angeles Times, and the Preparedness Day bombings (2). What has further caused domestic terrorism has been the argument over who is an American. This explains the emergence of the Boston Tea Party and the white supremacy of the Ku Klux Klan which both occurred to claim what being an authentic American means (3). After the Cold war, domestic intelligence and law enforcement suppressed terrorist plots, but since the leader of al Qaeda increased website usage in 2003, more internet terrorist sites have grown. In 2009, the FBI stated that there were approximately 15,000 websites that advocated terrorism with 10,000 sites still active on 80% of U.S based servers. • 27. The Cycle Of The Hydrologic Cycle The hydrologic cycle, also known as the water cycle, is a continuous rotation of water changing states through the Earth, ocean and atmosphere in a circulating system (Watts Forbes, 2011; US Department of Commerce, n.d; National Geographic Society, 2013). The water cycle alters throughout different locations due to weather patterns and climate around the world (Watts Forbes, 2011). The major processes that make up the hydrologic cycle are evaporation, transpiration, condensation, precipitation, and runoff, with many further processes as seen in Appendix 1.1 and simplified in Appendix 1.2. Evaporation Evaporation, in general, involves a substance changing its physical state from a liquid to a gas (US Department of Commerce, n.d; National Geographic Society, 2013; Northwest River Forecast Centre [NRFC], n.d). An example of this is when the body heats up during exercise or due to temperature, and releases sweat to try and cool down and producing water onto the skin (US Department of Commerce, n.d). Energy is required for evaporation to occur, and this energy source can come from the atmosphere, entities such humans, or in the case of the water cycle, the sun is the source of energy (US Department of Commerce, n.d). During the hydrologic cycle, evaporation occurs when the sun interacts with liquid water such has lakes and rivers, the ocean and soil, to cause water particles to become water vapour by heating the water (National Geographic Society, n.d; Miller Spoolman, ... In the Archaic Age, beauty is sought by the citizens of Greece all throughout the various forms of artistic expression. For example, Greek sculptures before the Archaic Age were widely influenced by the mesopotamians and egyptians, with rigid postures and ceremonious gestures. However, in the Archaic Age, we see a little more change throughout the art of sculpting in Greece. Greek sculptors began incorporating lively, athletic, and healthy attributes to the work of art, such as the Anavysos Kouros, (page 52) a Greek korari sculpture based by the Archaic Age. Health and beauty in art was commenced in the Hellenic Era, almost as much as the religious aspect of the art. In addition, Architecture grew of the idea of beauty and beautiful buildings. Mr. Watts or Pop eye is given the role teaching the village children, being the only educated, and consequentially, white man left on the island. She continues to try and save her daughter, the power of unconditional love overcoming their even more obviously marked differences. Dolores then tries to impose her faith on Matilda in hope she will begin to value God over Great Expectations to lead her away from the white world. Dolores comes unannounced to Matilda s class and tries to educate the children on the only thing she knows well: the importance of faith she didn t know anything outside what she knew from the bible but as Mr. Watts gets further through the novel Pip becomes yet even more important to Matilda. Dolores never stops in trying to steer Matilda away from the white world. The world she knows barely anything about, the world she thinks is evil. Despite their ever increasing differences Dolores will always continue to protect Matilda from what she believes is bad. We see the power of unconditional love shown again through Matilda and Dolores s contrast when Matilda discovers Great Expectations to have been stolen by her Mother. When Dolores hides Great Expectations much strife is caused. The Red Skins visit Matilda s island, threatening to burn all of their possessions unless they give up Pip who is only a character from a book and cannot be given up. Because the book is not where it is supposed to be Pip cannot be explained. • 35. Marijuana Use among High School Seniors in the United States Marijuana Use Marijuana use among high school seniors in the United States has been on the rise causing greater concerns for addiction and health concerns among teenagers. According to the CDC, in 2010, marijuana use among high school seniors rose to 21.4%, with 25.2% being male users and 16.9% being female (Health, United States, 2011, 2011). This shows a steady increase every year starting in 2007 where 18.8% of high school seniors were using marijuana, with 22.3% were male and 15.0% were female. Ages as young as 12 years old also showed the same statistical trends, even in Middle Schools. Up to 1920, there were isolated accounts of marijuana and those that did show up in the press showed marijuana being smoked for recreational purposes (Harrison, 2010). After prohibition, marijuana markets started to emerge in cities. Harry Anslinger, Federal Narcotics Commissioner, alleged marijuana as being responsible for violent cases and waged war against marijuana in 1933. As a result, 46 states enacted anti marijuana legislation. The Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 placed marijuana with Schedule I drugs that included opium and cocaine. The Boggs Bill of 1951 and the Narcotic Drug Act of 1956 served to establish severe penalties for violation of drug laws. The Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs in 1961 was enacted to modernize and coordinate international narcotic control. Provisions were made for cannabis. • 36. Activity Series Lab Report Before conducting the Activity Series Lab, participants must know how to protect themselves against the possible dangers that the hazardous materials from the lab can cause. Some of the things they must understand include proper safety precautions and how to protect against corrosive or poisonous materials. For instance, Copper (II) Chloride, one of the solutions used in the lab, can cause severe eye irritation. One way to protect against this is by wearing goggles, or other eye protection equipment. Another substance used in the lab is Silver Nitrate, a body tissue irritant. Participants must wash off the substance quickly if it comes into contact with their skin to prevent any serious damage. Not only is it vital to know how to be safe around the chemicals, but to fully understand the lab, participants must be able to recognize the clues to a chemical change. There are five clues that help indicate if a chemical change occurs. The clues to a chemical change include a change of colour, the forming of a precipitate, the forming of gas bubbles, the production of heat or light, and if the change is difficult to reverse. • 38. Neil Shubin s Your Inner Fish Essay Review With a writing style that is enabled by an obvious adoration of the subject, Neil Shubin explores the predecessors of the human species in his book Your Inner Fish. Shubin draws upon his unique background as a paleontologist, embryologist, and geneticist to trace defining phenotypical traits that are inherent to humans to even the simplest of organisms. He delves into the difficult details of evolution that have long remained mysteries until recent years, specifically analyzing the transition from water to land, the rise of vision, basic body plans and scent. The magic of the book is that although these discoveries required the brightest minds of the past two centuries, Shubin unwraps them in a delightful manner that is interesting to both high school student and university professor. Your Inner Fish is meant to be persuasive, to educate and formulate opinions. By tracking these seeming complexities of human development, Shubin attempts to persuade a broad audience in the veracity of the common ancestor. Although the premise of the book is based on evolution, Shubin s purpose in writing the book cannot be defined by such broad terms. He is not interested in simply proving that evolution occurs; in fact, he treats such a consensus as being already understood. It is the actual mechanism that interests Shubin, the path that was taken by the common ancestor that eventually whereon organisms diverged and became the human species. The beginning of the book ... I believe this is the initial theme because throughout the poem our main character seems to be haunted by Lenore and her passing. I believe that our main character is still trying to recover from the loss of Lenore. My reasoning behind this is because there are countless time throughout the poem that the main character calls for he name even though he knows that she is not there. I believe that these feelings may have been triggered by the enviorment that he was in. While he was in the study our main character referenced the purple curtains. These purple curtains may have something that Lenore was fond of and when he saw them during the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
