1. Make a typical cross section of the rigid pavement :

2. Take a trial thickness as 0.25m to 0.30m
3. According to the CBR% given, find the modulus of the subgrade reaction from
Pg:9, Table:2
4. Provide 100mm or 150mm thick granular sub-base ; however, the 150mm
thick base in generally preferred.
5. Provide DLC subbase of thickness 150mm with a minimum 7-day with the
compressive strength of 7mPa.
6. Find effective modulus of subgrade reaction for combined foundation of
subgrade + granular & DLC subbase according to Pg:12, Table:4
7. Provide a bonding layer of polyethene sheet of 125micron thickness between
DLC and slab.

Selection of flexural strength of the concrete:
• 28-day flexural strength of cc = 4.5 mPa (minimum)
• 90-day flexural strength of cc = 4.5×1.1 = 4.95 mPa
Traffic analysis :

Traffic = given traffic× 2 (for 2 direction; CVPD)
r = rate of growth of traffic

Various Traffic volume values in MSA:
1) Total 2-way axle load during design period = C×Avg. No. of axle given
2) Number of axle in predominant direction = (1) × 0.5 (if 2lane, 0.25 if 4 lane)
3) Night time 12hrs design axle repetition = (2) × given night traffic %
4) Day time 12hrs design axle repetition = (2) × (1-given night traffic)%
5) Day time 6hrs repetition = (4)÷2
6) The Bottom up cracking = (5)
7) Night time 6hrs repetition =

Assume the Beta factor as 0.66 if it is not given and find out all the
values of CFD and the if the CFD<1 than the design is SAFE !! And
if CFD>1 than the pavement is to be REDESIGNED !!

According to the CBR% given, find the modulus of the subgrade reaction from Pg:9, Table:2 4. Provide 100mm or 150mm thick granular sub-base ; however, the 150mm thick base in generally preferred. 5. Provide DLC subbase of thickness 150mm with a minimum 7-day with the compressive strength of 7mPa. 6. Find effective modulus of subgrade reaction for combined foundation of subgrade + granular & DLC subbase according to Pg:12, Table:4 7.
