Government Dominated By Big Business
There has been a lot of fuss over big business influencing the government in the United States lately.
Now there is no doubt that the business elite have some influence on politics. It can even be traced
back to the early 1900 s, when the People s Party had disintegrated, but many writers and activists
have continued to echo the Populists central thesis: that the U.S. democratic political system is in fact
dominated by business elites (). Although there are countless arguments to go against this idea, the
questions still comes up today: Is government dominated by big business? Political Scientist G.
William Domhoff believes that government is dominated by big business. More specifically, Domhoff
believes that owners and top level managers in income producing properties are not only dominant
power figures in the US, but they also have inordinate influence in the federal government (). Another
political scientist however, Sheldon Kamieniecki, believes otherwise. He states that businesses do not
really get involved in policies that affect them; and even when they do, their success rate at
influencing policies is not consistent. In fact, he believes that other factions have more influence on
government policies (). Let s go a little more in depth on Domhoff s argument. Domhoff is a firm
believer in big business dominating government. He states that lobbyists from corporations, law firms,
and trade associations play a key role in shaping government on narrow issues of

The Trapezius Muscle Essay
The trapezius muscle:
Origin: it has an extensive origin from the base of the skull to the upper lumbar vertebrae.
Insertion: it inserts on the lateral aspect of the clavicle, acromion, and scapular spine.
Nerve supply: It is innervated by the spinal accessory nerve.
Action: It functions mainly as a scapular retractor and elevator of the lateral angle of the scapula[19].
The rhomboids muscles:
The rhomboids, consisting of the major and minor muscles.
Origin: the major and minor muscles originate from the spinous processes of C7 and T1 and T2 to T5,
respectively.
Insertion: They insert on the medial aspect of the scapula.
Nerve supply: The dorsal scapular nerve innervates the rhomboids.
Action: and retract and elevate the scapula. [19]
The levator scapulae muscle:
Origin: originates on the transverse processes of the cervical spine.
Insertion: inserts on the superior angle of the scapula.
Nerve supply: Innervation is from the third and fourth cervical spinal nerves.
Action: The levator scapule elevates the superior angle, resulting in upward and medial rotation of the
scapular body[19].
The serratus anterior muscle:
Origin: it takes origin from the bodies of the first nine ribs and the anterolateral aspect of the thorax
Insertion: it inserts through three portions from the superior to the inferior angle of the scapula.
Nerve supply: Innervation is by the long thoracic nerve, and nerve injuries here often manifest as a
winged scapula.

Different Types Of Biobanks Depending On Their Research Goals
Humans have been studying diseased remains for centuries and collecting and maintaining donated
samples for more than a hundred years (Westfall et al 36). Today these places are called biobanks.
Biobanks are institutes that collects and maintains donated samples of human blood, tissues, and any
other collectable genetic material for the purpose of research (Westfall et al 37). At first biobanks were
small and collected samples for specific study purposes. Records were kept in a notebook and
specimens were stored in a few small freezers. Today s biobanks have thousands of specimens, which
are recorded electronically and linked together through the Internet. This web interface connection
allows researchers to search hundreds of biobanks and request specific samples for their research (De
Souza and Greenspan 2). There are many different types of biobanks depending on their research
goals. For example the United States, Iceland, United Kingdom, Sweeden, and Japan have population
based biobanks which collects, records, and studies samples from participants in their population to
study what possible diseases are occurring among their citizens. Other biobanks include genetic,
disease, and virtual biobanks (Westfall et al 36). One of the first cases to present ethical concerns of
biobanks involved a woman named Henrietta Lacks. She was at Johns Hopkins Hospital for cancer
treatments. During this time her cancerous cells were surgically removed and examined. This

The Macondo Blowout
The Macondo Blowout occurred on April 20, 2010 and caused over four million barrels of crude oil,
hydrocarbons, to spill into the Gulf of Mexico (Peterson et al.). This event is also known as the
Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Subsequently, hydrocarbon plumes formed from the oil spill and with the
natural water plumes that feed many corals, causing concern for coral communities from many
researchers, so investigations were made to inquire about the health of coral communities nearby
(Fisher et al. 796). Results showed that over half of coral communities within twenty kilometers of the
explosion site displayed signs of harm (Fisher et al. 297). The effects of Deepwater Horizon oil spill
were displayed in the coral population near the Macondo

Encourage Abstinence
For years the government of many nations have tried without success to stop illegal drug trade, sex
slave rings, and violence between nations. Nh at Hanh brings up a very interesting point, would it not
make more sense to fund wholesome, clean, nourishment for our mind, body, and soul. Would it not
be more fruitful for the government to provide alternatives to drugs and violence, and encourage
abstinence? If we want to restore balance to the world we must first transform personal pain, suffering,
and loneliness through the acts of mindful consumption, encouraging international communication
and understanding, oneness of body and mind, giving of oneself, generosity towards others, and
reverence and respect for all living things. If we want to

Essay On All My Pretty Ones By Anne Sexton
Crumbling under her myriad selves, Anne Sexton s poetry reveals through the journey of words the
labyrinthine setting that resides inside a disturbed mind. Intimate, almost with a sense, similar to that
of trespassing someone s private journals, her works bared her deepest and often darkest desires for
the world to read, scrutinize and often condemn. Poetry for her was a recluse, a momentary escape
route from her otherwise troubled mental state; keeping her more or less sane to survive the wild,
twisted world she built around her.
The genre of Confessional Poetry fit Sexton like a glove. She enrolled for workshops from Robert
Lowell at the Boston University and made close acquaintances with the likes of Sylvia Plath and
George Starbuck, meanwhile enhancing her only too verbally extrovert spirit. Over countless martinis
at the Ritz Carlton, the two women compared suicide attempts, discussed their mutual enchantment
with death, critiqued each other s work, and gossiped over drinks and free potato chips.*
While studying confessional poetry, it is of key importance to understand that these poems do not

Alluding perhaps in the same vein as Macduff in Shakespeare s tragedy, Macbeth, the collection
chronicles her coming to terms with the vicious circle of life and inevitability hovering over the living.
The twin deaths of Sexton s parents in 1959 (her mother s succeeded by her father s) led her to cling
on to writing for dear life. Her poems thinly conceal her feelings of bitterness towards them and thus
vividly capture the essence of the conflict between holding them responsible for desolating her and
lamenting their loss. Using it as a vehicle to transport herself from these worldly sufferings, she used
poetry as a defense, as a healing ointment to veil the scarring of her

Commercial Properties Of Commercial Property Development
Commercial property is one that is intended to produce a financial return for its owner by being used
or occupied by businesses (British Property Federation, 2014) with the financial return being rent
received from a tenant or a change in the capital value of the property. Commercial property includes
offices, retail premises, restaurants, hotels and more. As with any other type of property commercial
property is vulnerable to various factors that can make it a more or less attractive investment. In this
paper, the state of commercial property in the last 8 years in London will be examined. Furthermore
the drivers for commercial property development will be analysed in detail. At the beginning of the
millennium, the UK introduced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result of the financial crash in the US, the UK and the rest of the world also suffered. In the UK
the government took over Northern Rock and large stakes of Lloyds TSB and RBS resulting in a fall
of confidence of consumers. Britain officially entered a recession in January 2009. As a consequence
of the crash banks became much more cautious when lending money, making debt more expensive.
Property values started falling and the property market entered the slump phase of the property cycle
as shown in Figure 1.0. Figure 1.0 Source: Pillar Property, 2003 The market started to recover in 2010
and 2011 with rental and capital values rising and with an increase in the investment market turnover
in 2013. Although in 2013 the UK was still in recession, the values of commercial properties began to
rise due to the yield compression. In the 2014 London s commercial property market saw investment
of £20.5 billion, only slightly below its peak in 2007, showing that the market was making a healthy
recovery. The investment continued into 2015 with demand outstripping supply. Market yields were
between 4.25% and 5%, with the Gherkin completing even lower, at 4%. This indicates that the
market has recovered as the lower yield implies higher returns. It is important to explore the drivers of
these changes to commercial property investment and development. 2.1 Drivers for commercial

The Theory Of The Australian Human Resource Institute
Executive summary
Through the need of a change within the management of the Australian Human Resource institute this
report has outlined efficient ways in improving the success rate of the Australian manufacturing
sectors. However, in discovering the right way to dealt the management different theories have been
looked upon. The classical 1909 theory was proposed by Frederick Winslow Taylor, which explained
that improving management is based on the efficiency and productivity of the employees. This is
deemed in Taylor believing that all workers were motivated by the external reward. That being money,

Through this report it sets out to target the Australian Human Resource institute (AHRI) in providing a
means to their being an improvement within the Australian manufacturing sector. Through the year
that has passed the Australian manufacturing sector has undergone a large amount financial pressure
resulting in there being a sufficient amount of staff layoffs and even to the point of closing operations
within Australia. With the aim of the report being able to reach a means to stopping the continual drop
and deficiencies within the sector, it has been established that through critically analyzing the separate
management theories of classical and behavioral theories while providing the AHRI with
recommendations of improvement within managing employees efficiently, As well as managing the
business itself to act efficiently as well as effective. Through comparing the Classical theory of

Las Vegas Monorail Description
The Monorail
Yes, Las Vegas has a monorail, and if you have ever visited Disneyland, then you are familiar with
what they are. The monorail is not advertised a lot, so there are many people who visit this city and are
not even aware that it exists.
The first thing you need to know about the monorail is that is should not be confused with the rams
that operate on the west side of the strip. If you have ever visited Disneyland, then you are familiar
with what they are. The Las Vegas monorail moves along the backside of several hotels. A portion of it
travels near Paradise Road; a street parallel to, and east of, the Strip.

There are seven stations or stops on the monorail system. The monorails operate on two tracks moving
in opposite directions, and the monorail will automatically stop at each of the seven stations traveling
in either direction. The monorail system moves north to south and vice versa, and it stretches from the
MGM hotel to the SLS hotel (This used to be the Sahara). For whatever reason, when this monorail
system was designed, they placed it far from the main areas of the Strip. The result is that there can be
a lot of walking get to and from a monorail station, depending upon your destination.

The most southern stop is the MGM hotel. The monorail station is located next the the parking garage,
and I think it is one of the shortest walks, but this isn t saying much. From the hotel lobby area you
have to walk downstairs to the Underground. This is a shopping area that leads to the parking garage.
At the end of the Underground shopping mall you turn left. This is the entrance way to the monorail
station at the MGM hotel. This is the place I have usually bought my ticket, there seems to be a lot of
people in the Underground shopping area, even thought most of them are not getting on the monorail.

The United States has many laws against owning exotic animals, yet people do it anyway. It s said to
be a multi billion dollar industry second in line to the distribution of drugs and weapons on the black
market. The amount of money in the United States alone made is fifteen billion dollars. With the help
of the internet and trade magazines it makes it easier for breeders and dealers to get business. Millions
of animals are forced into exotic animal trades because of the government and their laws against it.
People wouldn t act so poorly to the animals if the government allowed some exotic animals to be

The only thing they do towards exotic animal trade is simply making laws and acts against it. If it
truly was a major problem then they should be doing more to stop it. If owning one of these animals is
so bad then why doesn t the United States government step in and take control by putting money into
stopping the trade and regulating and seriously enforcing laws. The government does so little toward
keeping people from owning an exotic animal, the hardest part to get by is the individual state laws
about the subject. The laws against owning an exotic animal varies greatly from state to state, there
really isn t much that the government does at a federal level. The individual states can have a complete
ban on owning an exotic animals while different ones simply require a permit. The United States
government doesn t have a general police power which limits their power on this notion greatly.
Depending on the animal you re looking to acquire you may just need a license from the U.S.

After his three year apprenticeship, Keats became a medical student at Guy s hospital. With his study
taking over, he was losing time to write. He had always had a passion for literature, so he made up his
mind to increase the time spent on poetry, and his first poem was published in 1814. Although he
received his Apothecary licence in 1816, he decided to follow the path of his inspiration, Lord Byron,
and become a poet. Five months before his first book, Poems , was published, Keats was introduced to
one of Byron and Shelley s friends, Hunt, who helped him advance in his writing. His first book was
not received to well by the public, neither was the rest of his work. In his lifetime, Keats work copped
more hate than any other poet of his time. But by the end of the 19th century he was one of the most
beloved poets studied. Actually Meg, on his gravestone Keats wanted to write Here lies one whose

The Race to Space Essay
The Race to Space
The tension that existed between the U.S. and Russia during the years after WWII was not only a time
that both countries patiently tried to keep the world from another war, but was also a time of great
rivalry in the exploration of space. As both counties diligently experimented with plans for creating a
way to get into the vastness of space, spies on both sides were already in place to steal those ideas.
And so the space race begun. Both countries wanted to be the first to succeed so millions were spent
as the world watched as the U.S. and Russia went head to head in a battle that would change the world
forever. The space race began with the launch of Sputnik 1 on October 4, 1957 as Roy Silver and other

Spectrophotometric Analysis of an Unknown Mixture
Introduction:
The experiment at hand involved a lot of different steps and goals, yet the entirety of the experiment
was aimed at determining the concentration of Ni2+ and Co2+ ions in an unknown solution. Such an
experiment is greatly important and has several benefits. First of all, the experiment teaches and
reinforces multiple different skills that every scientist should be familiar with, such as using a
spectrophotometer, diluting solutions, and creating calibration curves. On a much broader scale,
however, the experiment provides a simple and relatively quick way to determine the concentration of
an unknown solution. Such a tool is very useful and important in modern society, for a wide variety of
reasons; yet determining the toxicity or potential danger of a solution is probably one of the most
important uses, whether it be in the lab, medicine, nutrition, or some other field of study. In brief, the
procedure for this experiment consisted of creating several different dilutions of both Ni2+ solutions
and Co2+ solutions, measuring and recording the absorbance of each solution (and an unknown
solution) at its lambda max, creating calibration curves for both types of ion solutions, and lastly,
using these graphs to determine the concentration of the unknown solutions. As already implied, the
experiment utilized a Co2+ ion solution and a Ni2+ ion

The Ever-Reliable Chimney Starter
4. The Ever Reliable Chimney Starter
A chimney starter or a charcoal chimney is a cylindrical device constructed out of steel. It can vary in
size depending on the model and the manufacturer, but most of the ones we see are about 6in to 8in in
diameter.
It has a space at the bottom where you are supposed to start your fire. You can access this through
holes surrounding the bottom of the cylinder.
As the name suggests, the chimney starter works pretty much like a portable fireplace. Crumple a few
pages of a newspaper and stuff them inside the bottom of the cylinder and fill the top with charcoal.
Then, light the paper in a couple of areas and watch until the coals at the bottom begin to light up. You

Needless to say, it does accomplish the job quickly.
Cons:
Just like when lighting coal using lighter fluid, using self igniting charcoal can be just as harmful if
not used the right way, as manufacturers say. The key is also to let all of the starting fluid get burned
off before starting to grill your food.
To Wrap It All Up
Technology has man s laziness have made it possible for even children to know how to light coal.
Although you now have a lot of options to choose from, it still all boils down to your preferences.
If you are keen enough to tell when your burning coal is already free from the harmful chemicals of
lighter fluids, you may do well with charcoal lighter fluids and self igniting charcoal.
If you are the handy type of person and has the equipment, the protective gear, and the skills to use
dangerous power tools, you may want to try using heat guns or propane torches instead.
An electric starter and a chimney starter, on the other hand, are good options if you are a practical
spender and are very particular about the taste of your

African American And American Writing
African American writing is the collection of writing created in the United States by journalists of
African heritage. It starts with the works of such late 18th century essayists as Phillis Wheatley. Prior
to the high purpose of slave stories, African American writing was commanded via self portraying
profound accounts. African American writing came to ahead of schedule high focuses with slave
accounts of the nineteenth century. The Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s was a period of blooming
writing and human expressions. Scholars of African American writing have been perceived by the
most astounding honors, including the Nobel Prize to Toni Morrison. Among the topics and issues
investigated in this writing are the part of African Americans inside the bigger American culture,
African American society, bigotry, bondage, and social balance. African American composing has had
a tendency to join oral structures, for example, spirituals, sermons, gospel music, soul, or rap. As
African Americans spot in American culture has changed through the hundreds of years, thus, has the
center of African American writing. Before the American Civil War, the writing fundamentally

included records of life under subjugation and the way of equity and recovery to flexibility. There was

The Positive Impacts Of Athletic Participation And...
Just as studies at the collegiate level have found athletic participation to be both positive and
negatively related to academic performance, the same came be seen at the high school level. However,
in some of the early studies athletic participation was not seen to have an impact on academic
achievement (Lumpkin Favor, 2012). Hauser and Lueptow (1978) found in their study of 852 senior
males that graduated in 1972, from five moderately large Midwestern city high schools, that their
results were in line with the results of the 1973, Lueptow and Kayser (as cited in Hauser and Lueptow,
1978) study that they replicated, do not support a casual interpretation of the relationship between
athletic involvement and academic achievement. (Hauser Lueptow, 1978, p. 308). Alternatively, that
athletic participation was not the underlining reason, but the initial dissimilarities in academic
achievement between athletes and non athletes. Marsh (1993) in his study found a similar lack of
effects for athletic participation on school grades. However, he did find participation in athletics
during the last two years of high school had a statistically significant positive impact for 14 of 22
senior and post high school outcomes and no apparent negative effects. There do seem to be more
studies that find either a negative impact (Beem, 2006; Cook, 2003; Gehring, 2004; Goldman 1991;
Klein, 2011) or positive impact (Burnett, 2000; Fejgin, 1994; Lumpkin Favor, 2012; White 2005;

Blood Spatter Analysis
Analyzing blood spatter at crime scene is a science that has developed significantly over the last 20
years. David Camm was arrested for the murder of his wife and two children in 2000. Several blood
spatter specialist would be called to the stand to testify on the blood spatter evidence that was found in
the crime scene with varying results. Most notably, Robert Stites, a blood spatter analyst from
Portland Oregon credentials and capability would be called into question many times. Experience,
knowledge and credibility of the blood spatter analyst as well as the blood evidence found at the scene
led to overturning the conviction of David Camm. David Camm was an Indiana State Trooper who
arrived home in September 2000 to find his wife and two children shot dead in their car. David Camm
had been playing basketball with family and friends in a church gym, as he did every week. He left the
church around 9:17pm, drove home, discovered the bodies and called the police in a span of 12
minutes. David s wife, Kimberly, and their children, 5 year old daughter Jill, and 7 year old son Brad
were at swim class until 7 p.m before they arrived home (Fisher, 2013). David Camm became the
police s prime suspect almost immediately. The police theorized that Camm had arrived home at 9:22,
killed his family, disposed of the gun (it has not been recovered), cleaned up the crime scene, then
called 911 (Fisher, 2013). However, upon closer examination of the crime scene, specifically the blood

Immanuel Kant s Influence On Moral Philosophy
The thinking of Immanuel Kant greatly influenced moral philosophy. He thought of moral value as a
unique and universally identifiable property, as an absolute value rather than a relative value. He
showed that many practical goods are good only in states of affairs described by a sentence containing
an if clause, e.g., in the sentence, Sunshine is only good if you do not live in the desert. Further, the if
clause often described the category in which the judgment was made (art, science, etc.). Kant
described these as hypothetical goods , and tried to find a categorical good that would operate across
all categories of judgment without depending on an if then clause.
An influential result of Kant s search was the idea of a good will being the only intrinsic good.
Moreover, Kant saw a good will as acting in accordance with a moral command, the Categorical
Imperative : Act according to those maxims that you could will to be universal law. but should not be
confused with the Ethic of Reciprocity or Golden Rule, e.g. Whereas the golden rule states that One
should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself, Kant asks us to analyze whether an act
can be performed simultaneously by everyone without exception. ... Show more content on

That disparity is an exception. The act cannot be performed without exception therefore it fails the
categorical imperative. Contrast this with the golden rule which is subjective to the individual.
Following the logic of the golden rule, if I wanted someone to kill me, then it would be acceptable for
me to kill others, because I would be doing to others what I would want done to me. This is very
important to keep in mind, because Kant s categorical imperative avoids this flaw. From this, and a
few other axioms, Kant developed a moral system that would apply to any praiseworthy

The Pros And Cons Of Civil War Monuments
Take Them Down? In the southern states there has been some debate on whether the monuments from
the Civil War should be taken down. Some think, especially the Black Lives Matter, the monuments
should because the statues could be considered these raciest because the monuments are of the
confederation. It may offend some people or remind them of a dark time in history. Others, like the
White Supremacy, say to keep them as a reminder of all those who have fallen and for respect. They
believe that it is disrespectful to take them down; those men died for a case, wrong or right. They do
not want the monuments to be taken down, and will protest that they do not. The Civil War is also a
huge part of our history and needs to be remembered, whether ... Show more content on

More than half of the world s supply of cobalt is delivered from DR Congo. 40% of all workers in
mines are children. Children as young as seven work in extremely harsh conditions to mine cobalt
which ends up in a lot of items we use in our daily life such as smartphones, cars, and computers.
Mining is one of the worst forms of child labour, due to the hazardous conditions and strenuous work,
and In 2014, approximately 40,000 young boys and girls were forced to work in the unbearable heat
with clouds of red dust and almost no light. Many have sported various infections from working in
polluted water. Children are forced dig at depths of 200 to 300 meters and are at constant risk of rock

Democratic Republic of the Congo continue to engage in the worst forms of child labor, including the

conflict, sometimes as a result of forced recruitment or abduction by non state armed groups. The
prescribed penalties for forced or compulsory labor remain low and do not serve as deterrents.
Decentralization, a lack of resources, and poor coordination have prevented and slowed the

The Underlying Cause Of Veteran Suicide
Complex issues in society are often observed, studied, and researched by respective experts in one
particular field. Veteran suicide is one of those issue where this type of academics can sometimes lead
to a very narrow view and simplistic solution to the complex issue being observed, studied, or
researched. Integrative studies is the study of two or more traditional disciplines in different
categories, but excludes the applied fields and professions. As Repko states typical categories include
the natural sciences; the social sciences; the humanities; the fine and performing arts; communication;
business; architecture; engineering; law; etc... (Repko, Interdisciplinary Research Process and Theory
2nd ed., 2012) This paper will explore two different disciplines to research and identify what are the
underlying cause of Veteran suicide and is there a way to combine the two disciplines, biological and
psychological into a comprehensive research paper to help prevent suicide in the Armed Forces. An
integrative study involves the combining of two or more academic disciplines into one activity.
Interdisciplinary research requires an understanding of the disciplines. (Repko, Interdisciplinary
Research Process and Theory 2nd ed., 2012) It is not enough to simply know of the discipline, but
extensive research into a discipline being used to solve a complex issue is needed to find a true
interdisciplinary solution. In this research paper Suicide in the Armed Forces and How to

Comparing Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway and Emily...
Comparing Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway and Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights
Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway and Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights share similarities in many
aspects, perhaps most plainly seen in the plots: just as Clarissa marries Richard rather than Peter
Walsh in order to secure a comfortable life for herself, Catherine chooses Edgar Linton over Heathcliff
in an attempt to wrest both herself and Heathcliff from the squalid lifestyle of Wuthering Heights.
However, these two novels also overlap in thematic elements in that both are concerned with the
opposing forces of civilization or order and chaos or madness. The recurring image of the house is an
important symbol used to illustrate both authors order versus chaos ... Show more content on

The first instance of window imagery is deceivingly small and easy to pass over, but upon reflection it
creates a certain symmetry by subtly foreshadowing the final window scene. In the very opening
section of the book, Clarissa s departure from the house dredges up memories of her time at Bourton,
of scenes with Peter Walsh that took place in front of an open window. This memory, brought about by
the impact of the early morning air, also reminds her of the solemn feeling this incident gave her
standing there at the open window, that something awful was about to happen. Though fleeting and
lightly discussed, this emotion placed so close to the beginning of the novel seems to indicate the
dangerous nature of an open window, which anticipates both Septimus death and Clarissa s later
musings in front of a window.
Another small but important window scene takes place after Clarissa returns home to discover that her
husband has been invited to Millicent Bruton s lunch party but she has not. After reading the message
about the party on a notepad, she begins to retreat upstairs to her private room, a single figure against
the appalling night. As she lingers before the open staircase window, she feels her own aging,
suddenly shriveled, aged, breastless... out of doors, out of the window, out of her body and brain
which now failed... Again, there is a hint of danger as death is portrayed as a somewhat alluring
transcendental experience,

Technology’s Detrimental Effects on Communication
Recent advancements in technology, especially social networking, have severely hindered the
communication skills of today s society by promoting edited, impersonal and staged communication.
Today s society places a high value on websites such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter; so much so,
that it is startling when someone does not own a profile on a social network. The dependency on
technological communication continues to reduce the ability of today s generation to read body
language, facial expressions, and to clearly vocalize what is important to them. Technology has
changed drastically in the past 50 years, and continues to grow and morph every day. Today s youth
and adolescents are seen with their heads down, texting on their ... Show more content on

Although technology was not an option to Baca, he realized that words do not stem from the physical
world. Language does not come from books, formulas, or from a glowing white screen. With
technology thrown into the mix, communication can become anonymous, edited, and thought out
before it is written down/typed up. Written, typed, and texted communication skills are vastly different
from the communication skills needed to hold a conversation in the flesh. It requires a level of grace
and mindfulness to communicate in the real world, especially when it comes to arguments and matters
of great importance. (Such as proposing to your significant other, or a job interview.) When you type a
sentence on a screen, you have the option to reread it, edit it, add to it, and even delete it. Typed
communication allows for the user to edit and censor their thoughts before they are sent out in a
message/post/e mail/etc. While this skill is useful for writing a paper and for creating a resume, it does
not translate well to genuine conversation. Since many people rely on spell check and the delete
button, it does not reinforce the skills that would allow them to catch those mistakes of their own
accord. A lack of mental filtering skills can lead an individual to misspeak and say something
embarrassing, insulting and even cruel in face to face

Essay A Western Identity Crisis
This country was founded by immigrants and is known for its population from a wide array of cultural
backgrounds. Living in a westernized society that is so diverse, we are forced to choose an identity for
ourselves at one point or another in our lives. Some choose to identify by their outer qualities, while
others may identify by their inner qualities. One may identify by their looks, gender, sexuality,
political views, or their beliefs. Some may have an identity that is dynamic and ever changing
depending on the events faced in life, or some my identify by a single aspect throughout their whole
life. Some may even struggle finding an identity due to the countless influence both conscious and
unconscious. In the Borderlands of Chicano ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Saenz, our identities are shaped by our surroundings. He describes a student: He did not
produce himself. He is a product. And the word product here should not be confused with victim.
Though we may all occupy different positions in the material world, we are all products of the
cumulative discourse around us (Saenz 71). We are products of our environment, and the course each
of us takes in life is dependent on how we allow the discourse to shape us and our beliefs. Choosing
an identity is necessary, and many of us are forced to have more than one identity. We have an identity
that we choose, a private identity, and are forced to also have a public identity. Our public identity is
shaped by politics and our cultural surroundings. According to Saenz, the West s obsession began with
Plato and Aristotle and was extended by (among others) Thomas Aquinas, Augustine, Descartes,
Locke, Hume, Heidegger and Marx (75). This obsession with political identity continues into present
day and the West s obsession has a great impact on our public identity. Our public identity is not one
that we may necessarily choose, but rather is forced upon us by others. While some say we are all the
same. We all love, we all hate, we all dream, we all will die. We feel. We all feel (73). There is so little
truth behind such a statement. We are not all the same, not genetically,

Biography of Photographer Dorothea Lange Essay
Through out the Great Depression there were many photographers, but one of the best was Dorothea
Lange. Lange was born on the 25th of May in 1895 in Hoboken, New Jersey as the first child of Joan
and Henry Nutzhorn. She decided to become a photographer at the age of 18. She studied photography
at Columbia University in New York. At the age of 20 she began to travel the world. Later in life she
settled down in San Francisco, California, where she met her first husband, artist Maynard Dixon. She
had had to children Daniel (1925) and John (1928). She died on the 11th of October in 1916. Even

Dorothea Lange s pictures of the homeless during the Great Depression got the attention of the
Federal Resettlement Administration. She began to work for them taking pictures and capturing the
publics attention of the poor. She also worked for the US Farm Security Administration before World
War Two. She investigated the conditions of farm workers in many Western states. Many of the people
she photographed during this time had came to escape the Dust Bowl (a drought which devastated
millions of acres of farm land in midwestern states).
When the United States joined WWII in 1941 here was a relocation of the Japanese Americans.
Dorothea Lange was hired shortly after this took place by the War Relocation Authority (WRA). She
was hired to show there new living styles in there new there new living quarters. The photographs she
took showed there new neighborhoods, processing centers, and there whole camp facilities. So Lange
could capture the spirit of the camps, she made it so her images showed courage and dignity. Most of
the photos she took here were censored by the federal government.

Learning about One s Tribe in the The Way to Rainy Mountain
The Way to Rainy Mountain is by no means a normal novel. It does not have the same cookie cutter
formation as most books, where the plot goes from beginning to end in neat little chapters. It is not
just a simple book, it is a book that has meaning, and it is a book that makes its readers think. It is a
book about connections from the past. These connections are like puzzle pieces that the main
character, N. Scott Momaday, has to put together in his journey to truly understand his heritage.
Through the past, Momaday finds a way to honor his grandmother s memory and to connect with his
Kiowa culture. The past comes in many different forms; it could be the way distant past spanning
hundreds of years ago or simply just a minute ago. Momaday ... Show more content on

This Mountain is where much happiness and contentment was felt for the Kiowas, it is where
Momaday s origins began, and it is the place where tragedy struck the tribe. This tragedy came in the
form of soldiers. One example of this is when the Kiowas were going to perform a ceremonial
Sundance, Before the dance could begin, a company of soldiers rode out from Fort Sill under orders to
disperse the tribe (Momaday 10). These soldiers ripped the Kiowas of their land and eventually placed
them in reservations. This is where Momaday grew up, and this is where the barrier between the older
generation and the younger generation began. This history of the Kiowa culture is a very important
part of the novel because it explains where the gap between generations began, and in Momaday s
point of view, it explains the gap between him and his grandmother. Momaday s grandmother was part
of the last generation of the Kiowas that were in a sense traditional. Her generation experienced the
true Kiowa customs and language. When Momaday s grandmother died, all he had left was her
memory and the wisdom that she left embedded in his mind. Upon returning to his grandmother s
house Momaday stated, Now there is a funeral silence in the rooms, the endless wake of some final
word (Momaday 12). This event is what brought Momaday back to his origins; it is what started his
journey to bridge the gap between his grandmother and himself. His

  • 2. Government Dominated By Big Business There has been a lot of fuss over big business influencing the government in the United States lately. Now there is no doubt that the business elite have some influence on politics. It can even be traced back to the early 1900 s, when the People s Party had disintegrated, but many writers and activists have continued to echo the Populists central thesis: that the U.S. democratic political system is in fact dominated by business elites (). Although there are countless arguments to go against this idea, the questions still comes up today: Is government dominated by big business? Political Scientist G. William Domhoff believes that government is dominated by big business. More specifically, Domhoff believes that owners and top level managers in income producing properties are not only dominant power figures in the US, but they also have inordinate influence in the federal government (). Another political scientist however, Sheldon Kamieniecki, believes otherwise. He states that businesses do not really get involved in policies that affect them; and even when they do, their success rate at influencing policies is not consistent. In fact, he believes that other factions have more influence on government policies (). Let s go a little more in depth on Domhoff s argument. Domhoff is a firm believer in big business dominating government. He states that lobbyists from corporations, law firms, and trade associations play a key role in shaping government on narrow issues of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Different Types Of Biobanks Depending On Their Research Goals Humans have been studying diseased remains for centuries and collecting and maintaining donated samples for more than a hundred years (Westfall et al 36). Today these places are called biobanks. Biobanks are institutes that collects and maintains donated samples of human blood, tissues, and any other collectable genetic material for the purpose of research (Westfall et al 37). At first biobanks were small and collected samples for specific study purposes. Records were kept in a notebook and specimens were stored in a few small freezers. Today s biobanks have thousands of specimens, which are recorded electronically and linked together through the Internet. This web interface connection allows researchers to search hundreds of biobanks and request specific samples for their research (De Souza and Greenspan 2). There are many different types of biobanks depending on their research goals. For example the United States, Iceland, United Kingdom, Sweeden, and Japan have population based biobanks which collects, records, and studies samples from participants in their population to study what possible diseases are occurring among their citizens. Other biobanks include genetic, disease, and virtual biobanks (Westfall et al 36). One of the first cases to present ethical concerns of biobanks involved a woman named Henrietta Lacks. She was at Johns Hopkins Hospital for cancer treatments. During this time her cancerous cells were surgically removed and examined. This examination ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Subsequently, hydrocarbon plumes formed from the oil spill and with the natural water plumes that feed many corals, causing concern for coral communities from many researchers, so investigations were made to inquire about the health of coral communities nearby (Fisher et al. 796). Nh at Hanh brings up a very interesting point, would it not make more sense to fund wholesome, clean, nourishment for our mind, body, and soul. Would it not be more fruitful for the government to provide alternatives to drugs and violence, and encourage abstinence? • 7. Essay On All My Pretty Ones By Anne Sexton Crumbling under her myriad selves, Anne Sexton s poetry reveals through the journey of words the labyrinthine setting that resides inside a disturbed mind. Intimate, almost with a sense, similar to that of trespassing someone s private journals, her works bared her deepest and often darkest desires for the world to read, scrutinize and often condemn. Poetry for her was a recluse, a momentary escape route from her otherwise troubled mental state; keeping her more or less sane to survive the wild, twisted world she built around her. The genre of Confessional Poetry fit Sexton like a glove. She enrolled for workshops from Robert Lowell at the Boston University and made close acquaintances with the likes of Sylvia Plath and George Starbuck, meanwhile enhancing her only too verbally extrovert spirit. Over countless martinis at the Ritz Carlton, the two women compared suicide attempts, discussed their mutual enchantment with death, critiqued each other s work, and gossiped over drinks and free potato chips.* While studying confessional poetry, it is of key importance to understand that these poems do not intend to ... Her poems thinly conceal her feelings of bitterness towards them and thus vividly capture the essence of the conflict between holding them responsible for desolating her and lamenting their loss. In the UK the government took over Northern Rock and large stakes of Lloyds TSB and RBS resulting in a fall of confidence of consumers. Britain officially entered a recession in January 2009. As a consequence of the crash banks became much more cautious when lending money, making debt more expensive. Figure 1.0 Source: Pillar Property, 2003 The market started to recover in 2010 and 2011 with rental and capital values rising and with an increase in the investment market turnover in 2013. Although in 2013 the UK was still in recession, the values of commercial properties began to rise due to the yield compression. In the 2014 London s commercial property market saw investment of £20.5 billion, only slightly below its peak in 2007, showing that the market was making a healthy recovery. The investment continued into 2015 with demand outstripping supply. Market yields were between 4.25% and 5%, with the Gherkin completing even lower, at 4%. This indicates that the market has recovered as the lower yield implies higher returns. Investigation Of An Unknown Mixture Ethan Town Dr. Owens Chemistry 102 Lab, Section 9L 5 March 2014 Spectrophotometric Analysis of an Unknown Mixture Introduction: The experiment at hand involved a lot of different steps and goals, yet the entirety of the experiment was aimed at determining the concentration of Ni2+ and Co2+ ions in an unknown solution. Such an experiment is greatly important and has several benefits. First of all, the experiment teaches and reinforces multiple different skills that every scientist should be familiar with, such as using a spectrophotometer, diluting solutions, and creating calibration curves. On a much broader scale, however, the experiment provides a simple and relatively quick way to determine the concentration of an unknown solution. Such a tool is very useful and important in modern society, for a wide variety of reasons; yet determining the toxicity or potential danger of a solution is probably one of the most important uses, whether it be in the lab, medicine, nutrition, or some other field of study. In brief, the procedure for this experiment consisted of creating several different dilutions of both Ni2+ solutions and Co2+ solutions, measuring and recording the absorbance of each solution (and an unknown solution) at its lambda max, creating calibration curves for both types of ion solutions, and lastly, using these graphs to determine the concentration of the unknown solutions. Most notably, Robert Stites, a blood spatter analyst from Portland Oregon credentials and capability would be called into question many times. Experience, knowledge and credibility of the blood spatter analyst as well as the blood evidence found at the scene led to overturning the conviction of David Camm. David Camm was an Indiana State Trooper who arrived home in September 2000 to find his wife and two children shot dead in their car. David Camm had been playing basketball with family and friends in a church gym, as he did every week. He left the church around 9:17pm, drove home, discovered the bodies and called the police in a span of 12 minutes. David s wife, Kimberly, and their children, 5 year old daughter Jill, and 7 year old son Brad were at swim class until 7 p.m before they arrived home (Fisher, 2013). David Camm became the police s prime suspect almost immediately. The police theorized that Camm had arrived home at 9:22, killed his family, disposed of the gun (it has not been recovered), cleaned up the crime scene, then called 911 (Fisher, 2013). However, upon closer examination of the crime scene, specifically the blood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Immanuel Kant s Influence On Moral Philosophy The thinking of Immanuel Kant greatly influenced moral philosophy. He thought of moral value as a unique and universally identifiable property, as an absolute value rather than a relative value. He showed that many practical goods are good only in states of affairs described by a sentence containing an if clause, e.g., in the sentence, Sunshine is only good if you do not live in the desert. Further, the if clause often described the category in which the judgment was made (art, science, etc.). Kant described these as hypothetical goods , and tried to find a categorical good that would operate across all categories of judgment without depending on an if then clause. An influential result of Kant s search was the idea of a good will being the only intrinsic good. Moreover, Kant saw a good will as acting in accordance with a moral command, the Categorical Imperative : Act according to those maxims that you could will to be universal law. but should not be confused with the Ethic of Reciprocity or Golden Rule, e.g. Whereas the golden rule states that One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself, Kant asks us to analyze whether an act can be performed simultaneously by everyone without exception. ... Contrast this with the golden rule which is subjective to the individual. Following the logic of the golden rule, if I wanted someone to kill me, then it would be acceptable for me to kill others, because I would be doing to others what I would want done to me. This is very important to keep in mind, because Kant s categorical imperative avoids this flaw. Some think, especially the Black Lives Matter, the monuments should because the statues could be considered these raciest because the monuments are of the confederation. It may offend some people or remind them of a dark time in history. Others, like the White Supremacy, say to keep them as a reminder of all those who have fallen and for respect. • 27. Comparing Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway and Emily... Comparing Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway and Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway and Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights share similarities in many aspects, perhaps most plainly seen in the plots: just as Clarissa marries Richard rather than Peter Walsh in order to secure a comfortable life for herself, Catherine chooses Edgar Linton over Heathcliff in an attempt to wrest both herself and Heathcliff from the squalid lifestyle of Wuthering Heights. However, these two novels also overlap in thematic elements in that both are concerned with the opposing forces of civilization or order and chaos or madness. The recurring image of the house is an important symbol used to illustrate both authors order versus chaos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first instance of window imagery is deceivingly small and easy to pass over, but upon reflection it creates a certain symmetry by subtly foreshadowing the final window scene. In the very opening section of the book, Clarissa s departure from the house dredges up memories of her time at Bourton, of scenes with Peter Walsh that took place in front of an open window. This memory, brought about by the impact of the early morning air, also reminds her of the solemn feeling this incident gave her standing there at the open window, that something awful was about to happen. Though fleeting and lightly discussed, this emotion placed so close to the beginning of the novel seems to indicate the dangerous nature of an open window, which anticipates both Septimus death and Clarissa s later musings in front of a window. Another small but important window scene takes place after Clarissa returns home to discover that her husband has been invited to Millicent Bruton s lunch party but she has not. After reading the message about the party on a notepad, she begins to retreat upstairs to her private room, a single figure against the appalling night. As she lingers before the open staircase window, she feels her own aging, suddenly shriveled, aged, breastless... out of doors, out of the window, out of her body and brain which now failed... Again, there is a hint of danger as death is portrayed as a somewhat alluring transcendental experience, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Today s society places a high value on websites such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter; so much so, that it is startling when someone does not own a profile on a social network. The dependency on technological communication continues to reduce the ability of today s generation to read body language, facial expressions, and to clearly vocalize what is important to them. Language does not come from books, formulas, or from a glowing white screen. With technology thrown into the mix, communication can become anonymous, edited, and thought out before it is written down/typed up. Written, typed, and texted communication skills are vastly different from the communication skills needed to hold a conversation in the flesh. It requires a level of grace and mindfulness to communicate in the real world, especially when it comes to arguments and matters of great importance. (Such as proposing to your significant other, or a job interview.) When you type a sentence on a screen, you have the option to reread it, edit it, add to it, and even delete it. Typed communication allows for the user to edit and censor their thoughts before they are sent out in a message/post/e mail/etc. While this skill is useful for writing a paper and for creating a resume, it does not translate well to genuine conversation. Living in a westernized society that is so diverse, we are forced to choose an identity for ourselves at one point or another in our lives. Some choose to identify by their outer qualities, while others may identify by their inner qualities. One may identify by their looks, gender, sexuality, political views, or their beliefs. Some may have an identity that is dynamic and ever changing depending on the events faced in life, or some my identify by a single aspect throughout their whole life. According to Saenz, our identities are shaped by our surroundings. He describes a student: He did not produce himself. He is a product. And the word product here should not be confused with victim. Though we may all occupy different positions in the material world, we are all products of the cumulative discourse around us (Saenz 71). We are products of our environment, and the course each of us takes in life is dependent on how we allow the discourse to shape us and our beliefs. Choosing an identity is necessary, and many of us are forced to have more than one identity. We have an identity that we choose, a private identity, and are forced to also have a public identity. Our public identity is shaped by politics and our cultural surroundings. According to Saenz, the West s obsession began with Plato and Aristotle and was extended by (among others) Thomas Aquinas, Augustine, Descartes, Locke, Hume, Heidegger and Marx (75). This obsession with political identity continues into present day and the West s obsession has a great impact on our public identity. Our public identity is not one that we may necessarily choose, but rather is forced upon us by others. While some say we are all the same. We all love, we all hate, we all dream, we all will die. It does not have the same cookie cutter formation as most books, where the plot goes from beginning to end in neat little chapters. It is not just a simple book, it is a book that has meaning, and it is a book that makes its readers think. It is a book about connections from the past. These connections are like puzzle pieces that the main character, N. Scott Momaday, has to put together in his journey to truly understand his heritage. This Mountain is where much happiness and contentment was felt for the Kiowas, it is where Momaday s origins began, and it is the place where tragedy struck the tribe. This tragedy came in the form of soldiers. One example of this is when the Kiowas were going to perform a ceremonial Sundance, Before the dance could begin, a company of soldiers rode out from Fort Sill under orders to disperse the tribe (Momaday 10). These soldiers ripped the Kiowas of their land and eventually placed them in reservations. This is where Momaday grew up, and this is where the barrier between the older generation and the younger generation began. This history of the Kiowa culture is a very important part of the novel because it explains where the gap between generations began, and in Momaday s point of view, it explains the gap between him and his grandmother. Momaday s grandmother was part of the last generation of the Kiowas that were in a sense traditional. Her generation experienced the true Kiowa customs and language. When Momaday s grandmother died, all he had left was her memory and the wisdom that she left embedded in his mind. Upon returning to his grandmother s house Momaday stated, Now there is a funeral silence in the rooms, the endless wake of some final word (Momaday 12).
