The Caring Attribute Of Nursing
The Caring Attribute of nursing
Introduction
Caring is the foundation of nursing. Caring attribute is the essential modules to provide patients
with the best care possible. The caring attribute of nursing consist of 6 c s but this essay will focus
on four C s (compassion, competence, commitment and confident). Compassion is the ability of
showing empathy towards patient. Competence is having the knowledge to produce a successful
care. Commitment consists of taking a pledge towards patient and their care. Confidence is the
process of gaining trust with a patient. These attribute requires practice all the way through the
treatment stages. The positive outcomes of these attribute promotes good patient and colleague
relationships with a healthier environment for everyone. For a well superiority of care, caring
attributes need to be practiced by health professions at all times. Nursing attribute is an important
factor to have as a personal and a professional quality. Attribute is a significant factor in the health
profession.
. Compassion
Compassion can be described as warm, comfort and empathic towards others. Compassionate nurse
partakes in a patient s experience while understanding the illness, in order to build a caring
relationship (Bourgeois Van der Riet, 2015). Comfort can be used to defined both physical,
emotional and spiritual comfort. Physical comfort could be as simple as repositioning someone,
while emotional is letting them know that they are

The theoretical framework I develop rests on the...
The theoretical framework I develop rests on the assumption that individuals are rational actors
insofar as they calculate and act to maximize their expected utilities. An illustration of this
assumption is found when the expected utility of continuing a war is outweighed by the expected
utility of wartermination. When the expected costs of continuing a war exceed the expected
benefits, the relevant actors will begin to press for peace. I further assume that leaders act to
maximize their chances of retaining office and that they are accountable to a domestic audience.
The composition and preferences of this domestic audience varies systematically across regime
type, as does their ability to credibly deter the leader. This has important... Show more content on

The volume and intensity of conflict drive the rate at which these costs accrue. They may vary
intermittently in a smoldering dispute or accumulate more quickly in open conflict. Regardless of
this rate, I assume the longer a war continues, the more costs will mount, and the more likely that
one side will begin to press for a settlement. While some will oppose or support a conflict
regardless of the human or economic cost, most determine their support by paying particular
attention to these wartime losses. Both a leader and their domestic audience will calculate their
expected utilities and update their expectations by observing these outcomes. More important to
consider is the point at which the anticipated benefits of continued conflict is outweighed by the
anticipated costs of terminating conflict for a leader s domestic audience.
Remembering that a leader acts to maximize their chances of retaining office and that they are
ultimately held accountable to a domestic audience, the demands of a domestic audience unsatisfied
with the costs of war is important to consider in the ability of states to wage extended wars. This
cost sensitivity argument has typically underpinned empirical observations on the tendency of
democracies to fight uniformly shorter wars. Autocratic leaders, it was argued, do not labor under
such restraints

Letters During The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution was a time of inventions, new ideas, and the process of beginning to
make machine produced goods. Prior to the Industrial Revolution in the late 1700s, the
manufacturing of goods were often done with basic machines and hand tools. Industrialization
allowed a shift to factories, special purpose machinery, and mass production. In the 1800s when
industrialization became popular in England, it took the rest of the world by storm. England was
now using new inventions that allowed for an improvement socially and economically. As time
continued and England had an increasing demand for goods, more cost efficient methods like the
factorysystem and the rise of mechanization came into play. Along with many new inventions, the
telegraph was invented and allowed for a whole new world of communication. At the time, people
in Europeand America lacked quick forms of communication. Letters had always been used as the
most common method of communication, however it took several days or even weeks for letters
to be delivered. In cases of emergencies, letters were not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
B. Morse began to develop an interest in electromagnetism and the idea of an electric telegraph.
The sudden spark of interest began when his wife died during childbirth to their third son. He

it back to his home, his wife had already been buried. The next year his father passed away and
his mother died three years afterwards. Due to his grief, Morse decided to travel to Europe to
recover. On his trip back home to America in 1832, he met inventor Charles Jackson. They had a
conversation about how an electronic impulse could be carried on a wire for long distances. This
immediately sparked Samuel F. B. Morse s ideas and began to create sketches of an electric device
that he believed would be able to allow people to communicate long

Question 1
Step 1: Area of law
The area of law is contract law focusing on the element of agreement.
Step 2: Principles of law
Contract law is defined as lawfully enforceable agreement between two or more people to a
contract. An agreement also known as a promise consists of an offer and an acceptance. An offer
is defined as indication of the terms upon which an individual is ready to be obligated. On the
other hand, an acceptance is the agreement of the terms that have been offered. The parties
associated with the agreement are known as an offeror or an offeree. The offeror is the one who
makes the offer, and the offeree is the one accepts the offer (Curtin College 2014).
For an offer to be satisfied, there are rules to be considered. The offer has to be complete,
promissory, intention to undergo a contract when accepted, and focused on an individual or a
group. In addition,

It Is Hard To Fail Research Paper
It is hard to fail, but it is worse never have tried to succeed. Theodore Roosevelt. This quote
means it is worse to not have tried, then to have failed. If you want to succeed you need to think
about your goal. Also, you need a positive attitude to overcome obstacles. In order to succeed you
need to work for it. Everyone has a different perspective about success. There many ways to view
success. Everyone has an ultimate goalin life, whether it s to be the wealthiest person alive, or to
just live a healthy life. But sometimes wealth can t just be your greatest goal in life. You have to
keep searching for new goals, and keep pushing to be more successful. Also, if wealth is the

Toy Story 3 Hero Journey Analysis
Imagine your biggest nightmare facing death. Now imagine the same nightmare but with your
life along with your best friends and loved one life on the line. That is how it is for heroes such
as Woody. All your decisions leading up to one death defining event. Which you hope all those
decisions were the best you could have made. Then, finally at the last moment, while you are
tasting death, you escape. This is the type of experiences heros go through. Therefore, in the film,
Toy Story3, the storyteller uses the hero s journey and a mentor to reveal that we as humans want
our heroes to be courageous and determined, because society wants our heros to overcome
challenges and learn from their past experiences.
Throughout the film, the hero s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As they are all escaping the daycare, Lotso approaches and pushes them into the dumpster.
Thankfully for Woody, the baby expresses his good heart and throws in Lotso into the dumpster
with them. Sadly, the dumpster was just picked up and was off to the landfill. As they were
fighting to get out of the landfill before the big fire, Lotso escapes and leave Woody behind.
Woody and his friends were doomed, but at the last second the claw came down (controlled by
the Aliens), and were picked them up and brought to safety. Finally, Woody returned and brought
the gift of, being a hero to his friends, and the gift of remembering his past mistakes. The hero s
journey in Toy Story 3 was expressed through the toy cowboy: Woody. Throughout his journey, he
learned to be courageous and to be determined. As he was being taught through the journey and
by the mentor he was learning how to become a hero. Without this key journey, the story of the
movie would not be the same. Instead, the path of the story could have been accepting your
mistakes because of the mistake of going to daycare. But from the journey, he learned a different
lesson and is now a hero for helping his friends get out of the daycare.
Throughout the film, the Telephone (mentor) guided Woody to the path of success, to complete his
goal and help his friends. And without a mentor, hero s cannot carry out their functions. Telephone,

Theme Of Class Struggle In A Tale Of Two Cities
A Tale of Two Cities is a novel by Dickens written in 1859. It is one of the most famous
productions of world literature. Dickens first purpose was to publish this work through a
newspaper. In fact, he ended up publishing his novel in his All the Year Round literary magazine
for 31 weeks. The novel is set place in London and Paris and is shaped around one of the most
restless periods of history, the French Revolution. Charles Dickens tries to show the insight of the
French Revolution in which the bourgeoisieand aristocrat class carried out a bloody strife on the
lower classes. Dickens displays this in a very realistic and frustrated fiction. The novel basically
revolves around the lives of its characters before and after French Revolution.... Show more content

(Book 1, Chapter 7) This shows that no matter what the case is, if you are lower in class you lose.
Dickens portrayed class struggle as one of the main causes of the Revolution. If we compare the
pictures Dickens painted to the information in historical sources we will see that he is accurate.
There was political turmoil among the upper classes, huge population growth among the peasants,
and frustrated bourgeois class. (Revolution and Masters)
Dickens continues to illustrate corrupted power. Monseigneur s cruel philosophy illustrates the
mindset that has crept into the most privileged class and demonstrates how power can corrupt. The
contrast between his philosophy and his nephew s beliefs further underscores the suffering of the
masses. (Book 2, Chapter

Bacon s Rebellion Essay
In 1676, Nathaniel Bacon rebelled and held a revolt in Colonial Virginia. High taxes, low prices
for tobacco, and resentment against special privileges given those close to the governor, Sir
William Berkeley, provided the background for the uprising. These factors made the rebellion
inevitable. All of the chaos was precipitated by Governor Berkeley s failure to defend the frontier
against attacks by Native Americans. Bacon commanded two unauthorized but successful
expeditions against the tribes and was then elected to the new House of Burgesses, which
Berkeley had been forced to convene. Berkeley then sent out a warrant for his arrest and Bacon
was put in jail. Bacon soon was released and he immediately gathered his supporters,... Show more

Moreover, closer to home, there were many problems caused by the crazy weather. The constantly
changing weather left the colony and colonists in chaos. Hailstorms, floods, dry spells, and
hurricanes rocked the colony during one year and had a damaging effect on the colonists.
Inevitably, these difficulties encouraged the colonists to find a scapegoat. They needed to find
something to vent their frustrations and place the blame for their misfortunes. With the immense
frustration and anger among the colonists, they began to scapegoat the local Indians. To ward off
future attacks and to control the situation, Governor Berkeley instigated the matter. He set up what
was to be a disastrous meeting between the parties, which resulted in the murders of several tribal
chiefs. In the meantime, Berkeley continually pleaded for restraint from the colonists. Some,
including Nathaniel Bacon, refused to listen. Bacon disregarded the Governor s direct orders by
seizing some friendly Appomattox Indians for stealing corn. Berkeley scolded him, which caused
the disgruntled Virginians to wonder which man had taken the right action. Significantly, Berkeley
could not compromise earning resentment from about 1,000 Virginians. They fiercely resented
Governor Berkeley for his policies toward the Indians. When Berkeley refused to retaliate for a
series of savage Indians on frontier settlements after monopolization of fur trade, the

My Creation Of A Soundtrack For Octavia E. Butler s...
Soundtracks to films often strive to represent the themes and feeling of the film, and direct the
audience towards particular emotions. A good soundtrack not only allows for the listener to
understand the film better, but it should also bring to mind particular scenes, images, or characters.
Soundtracks for books can do the same. In my creation of a soundtrack for Octavia E. Butlers
Parable of the Sower, I strove to encompass Lauren s journey throughout the novel and the
various emotions that she experiences. Since Lauren is reflecting on her experiences, her
journey becomes central to how the audience feels and experiences the emotional aspects of the
book. The songs not only represent Lauren, but also the entire feel and theme of the text. The
songs follow along with Lauren, with her despair, death, and the need for survival. As I scoured
through song after song, I tried to connect each song choice with a particular moment in Lauren
s story and the hopelessness of a dystopian future Butler warns her audience about. The first track
is Things We Lost in the Fire by the band Bastille, and is one of the more literal song selections
about the event that triggers the rest of the events in the story to occur: the death of her father, the
pyros, the destruction of her community. The song is literally about things that burn up and leave,
never to be seen again. Fire plays a key role in the fear aspect of the book; fire is synonymous with
chaos. Not only does the song

Cardiovascular Disease In Men
Although men had ruled the earth for years together, the male gender is highly susceptible so far
heart disease is concerned . More men are living with and dying of Coronary Heart Disesse
(CHD) than women and have more hospital discharges for Cardiovascular disease ( CVD ) and
CHD. The prevalence of CHD is higher in men within each age stratum until after 75 years of age,
which may contribute to the perception that heartdisease is a man s disease.
The classic risk factors for CVD are the same in women and men, but there are gender differences
in the prevalence of risk factors. Dr Bernadine Healy first introduced the concept of the Yentl
syndrome in 1991, suggesting gender bias in the management of CHD.

Decreased sexual activity and function are common in patients with CVD and are often
interrelated to anxiety and depression. The Stockholm Heart Epidemiology Programme (SHEEP)
study of post MI patients (50% women) found that those who were sedentary had a higher risk of
MI with sexual activity (relative risk 4.4) than did those who were physically active (relative risk
0.7). Sexual activity is reasonable for patients who can exercise ≥3 to 5 METS without angina,
excessive dyspnea, ischemic ST segment changes, cyanosis, hypotension, or arrhythmia (Class IIa;
Level of Evidence C).
In 2005, the Princeton Conference suggested that post MI patients who had undergone successful
coronary revascularization or had a treadmill test without ischemia could resume sexual activity 3

commonly performed through a median sternotomy, it is generally recommended that sexual
activity be delayed for 6 to 8 weeks after CABG and non coronary open heart

To sum up, although surface learning
method and using memory positively influence Asian students success in some
fields, they are considered a difficult method to understand materials effectively.
Regarding effects of the intrinsic locus of control which are associated with students of deep
thinking style, a lot of studies state that these factors positively
influence students success in most academic circumstances (Biggs 1985) although
some students do not prefer this method . Biggs description of deep learning style is
understanding, integrating and analysing the materials and concepts and searching for
other information and data using a variety of sources. In relation to some paradigms
of learning methods, they assert that there is a positive relationship between high
achievement and the deep method (Boyle, 2003). In addition, most studies agree that
the deep approach to learning with an intrinsic motivation is seen as a positive factor
to increase effort, study seriously and acquire high scores. In fact, most students
of the deep approach believe that the results of their deep thinking methods have
derived from their own conduct (Kishor 1983). Some studies demonstrate that

What Are The Stereotypes Of Working Women
Introduction Gender roles is a very controversial topic in today s society, especially when it
comes to working. 100 years ago, in Europe, women were working long hours in factories. Women
also worked as nurses, cleaned wealthy people s homes, and were craftswomen. Meanwhile, 100
years ago in the United Stateswomen were expected to stay home and take care of the family/home,
while the men went out and worked an average of ten hours a day for six days a week, compared to
the traditional five day weeks and 8 hour days.
There are common beliefs about working women, including that they are expected to have kids
and quit their jobs when they do, they are judged more harshly when voicing their opinions, they
are expected to have good soft skills , they are still seen as secondary to their husbands even if
they re the primary breadwinner, they are perceived as naturally weaker than their male
coworkers, and they are judged more on their looks than men. Even though most these stereotypes
have mostly disappeared over the past few years, they still exist in some places. Today, women in
America are becoming more and more powerful in many areas, especially when it comes to the
workforce.

The Blu Ray Disc
1 Introduction
An emergence roadmapping process is crucial to managers and policy makers taken decisions about
which technologies it should be or it should not be developed, despite the uncertain trends of the
market.
This report aims to address the emergence roadmapping of the Blu ray disc. It will be structured in
the three essential parts: the development of this technology, the environment involved and its
initial market and competitors. The first part describes the technological development and the
advantages that led to the implementation of this innovation, and it presents the challenges faced by
it. In the second part, an environment analysis will explain what helped to the success of the Blu
ray disc. In the last part, market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

other companies attracting the largest consumer portion (Uijla Vriesa, 2013). Major changes that
occurred in the market by the end of 2008 have led the Blu ray to absolute dominance of the
market. In the section 4, a better explanation of the war raised between those two companies will be
presented.

3 Emergence Roadmapping Trends and Drivers
3.1 Technology Development and Challenges
The main purpose in a technological innovation is to integrate its benefits in an application and to
utilize properly its advantages to create a potential market that will generate revenue.
In 1998, The High Definition TV (HDTV) sets began to act in the United States and Japanese
consumer markets. The old formats of media, such as DVDs and CDs were not able to store the
amount of data necessary to record high definition content. At the same time, the video game
market was growing in a rapidly rate. The market demand generated after the success of DVDs
pushed several companies to invest in this type of technology. In this framework, the company that
would come up with an efficient innovation to provide higher data storage would have greater
chance to have a big market share.

How Did Marco Polo Not Go To China
Marco Polo was an Italian Merchant who lived in 13th century Venice, a wealthy city with many
other merchants like himself. Marco Polo came from a family of merchants and became one

One of the first Europeans to travel to China. He exposed numerous Europeans to the Eastern

think of when they think of Marco Polo. Yet many do not know that there is a debate between
scholars and historians. This debate asks Did Marco Polo even go to China? A puzzling question
indeed. What makes people think that Marco Polo never even went to China? You may be asking
yourself. Well there are numerous clues and faults in Marco Polo s book and what he has reported.

Based on the negative consequences of the trends and issues, I believe there are ways to prevent
them from happening and improve some of the problems with the technology. With the issue of
the internet and administrative tools, patients data should be kept private and should not get
deleted or lost. In the future when I am in my career, to prevent these things from happening I
will make sure when I am processing a patient s information I will take my time to make sure it
is saved in the appropriate folders. I would also create a security system for the patients so their
information could not get leaked on the internet for others to see. There are different forms of
security software that can be installed on computers to prevent things like documentation of a
patient s file getting leaked. Technology could be complicated, however, if you are a physician,
you should have some type of understanding of how to use it. Since there are a lot of people who
do not understand how to use certain technology, I would have educational sessions for those that
need to learn how to use the technology for certain procedures. I would also explain why these

Othello’s Diversity of Imagery Essay
Othello s Diversity of Imagery
The diverse imagery found in Shakespeare s drama Othello represents a world all by itself. And this
world of imagery contributes to the prevailing sentiment of pain and suffering and unpleasantness.
There is no shortage of imagery in the play; this is for certain. Critic Caroline Spurgeon in
Shakespeare s Imagery and What it Tells Us sorts through the plethora of imagery in the play:
The main image in Othello is that of animals in action, preying upon one another, mischievous,
lascivious, cruel or suffering, and through these, the general sense of pain and unpleasantness is
much increased and kept constantly before us. More than half the animal images in the play are ...

The peculiar pain of sexual jealousy is deeply involved with the excremental aspect of the sexual
organs, and the emotion in betrayal in a supremely intimate trust is involved with agonizing

Just how strong a force is the imagery in this drama? Is it more powerful than the chorus in
ancient Greek tragedy? H. S. Wilson in his book of literary criticism, On the Design of
Shakespearean Tragedy, discusses the influence of the imagery of the play:
It has indeed been suggested that the logic of events in the play and of Othello s relation to them
implies Othello s damnation, and that the implication is pressed home with particular power in the
imagery. This last amounts to interpreting the suggestions of the imagery as a means of comment
by the author the analogy would be the choruses of Greek tragedy. It is true that the play contains
many references to heaven and hell and devils. as Wilson Knight has pointed out. But Mr. Knight
has wisely refrained from drawing the conclusion that Shakespeare means thus to comment upon
Othello s ultimate fate. (66)

Persuasive Essay On Confirmation Bias
You see what you see, you hear what you hear but do you always believe what you see and hear.
Most people do believe everything they see and hear because they only remember what confirms
their own bias. We as people associate with others or certain medias that support the beliefs we
have, and our memories help us remember information that can be used as proof to make what we
believe seem true. The only problem that stands in the way is if the information we are receiving
is true or not. There is where most of us go wrong we don t fact check we just assume. We assumed
pizzagate was true without even considering it. Almost everyone uses confirmation biaswheather
they realize it or not. Confirmation bias is used to show intelligence and boosts self esteem, it is
heavily influenced in the news outlets and social media, and has a huge effect on society today.
Confirmation bias is something that every person is susceptible to, unless you know that you re
doing it. Confirmation bias is our tendency to seek out information that we already believe to be
true. This affects how you interpret information, how you seek information, and also how you
remember things. When you look at the world around you, it is the conformation bias in your head
that is telling you certain things to pay attention to more than others. Your brain tends to seek out
evidence that confirms your beliefs about something. You often do this because you do not want to

The Impact Of Volcanic Eruptions On The Earth s Climate...
When examining the influence and impacts of volcanic eruptions upon the earth s climate
system we have to consider occurrences both in the present and in the past. It has been noted by
McGuire et al. that Volcanic activity and environmental change have been linked during recent
times and in the geological record. (2002:88) With thousands of volcanic events having
transpired since the Archean, there is an abundance of evidence to support the theory that
volcanoes have impacted our climate for over 2.5 Billion years. In particular, I will be looking
at examples from the Permian era, where large basaltic flood eruptions have been associated
with mass extinctions and the most voluminous explosive super eruptions have been held
responsible for initiating the episodes of severe global cooling known as volcanic winters
(Rampino 1992, 1993a cited by McGuire et al 2002:88) and I will also be looking at instances
from the more recent Holocene. We are able to study their impacts through various scientific means
(such as examining northern and southern hemisphere ice cores), and are able to explore the
control they have had upon our climate in the preceding years and how they have influenced it
today. It is also necessary to explore equally the spatial and temporal scales of volcanic eruptions
and their controlling factors, to determine their effects upon the earths climate and how they can
affect it.

between behavior and events in an organism s environment. They are guided by the law of
association. Classic conditioning g was originated by Mr. Pavlov and it is sometimes referred to
respondent conditioning. Classic conditioning facilitate learning as an involuntary response
resulting from an experience. It occurs when you lean to associate different stimulus which are
unconditioned stimulus and unconditioned response. While operant conditioning facilitate learning
as a changes in behavior as a result of experience that occurs after a response. It involves voluntary
behavior which is followed with either reinforcement or punishment, Reinforcement will cause a
behavior to increase while punishment decreases a behavior. There are also two types of
punishment that occur in operant conditioning. Positive punishment is the addition of something
undesirable. Examples would be a child receiving a spanking or receiving extra chores for
misbehaving. The other type of punishment is negative punishment. Negative punishment is the
removal of something pleasing. Examples would be a child being placed in timeout or losing video
game privileges for misbehavior. http://study.com/academy/lesson/classical conditioning vs operant

International Migration At The Beginning Of The Twenty ...
The article I chose to review is International Migration at the Beginning of the Twenty‐First
Century: Global Trends and Issues. by Stephen Castles. The last article review, I used a required
reading assignment to write about, but when I started article review #2, this article stood out the
most to me. Migration has always been a topic that I wanted to learn more about and after
finishing this article, I feel like I came away with knowledge that I would have not been able to
get from some google searches. The article provided an array of detailed insight about migration
trends as well as the issues associated with it. The article talked about the types of migration and
as well, gave concise definitions of each. It touched on what causes migration and the historical
trends associated with it. The article about various migration trends like refugees fleeing for a
better life, or migrants who migrated temporarily. A part that stood out the most was how in the
early 1990s, migration took a prominent place on the international political agenda. Due to the
collapse of the Soviet Union, migration was occurring at rapid and uncontrollable rates due to
sporadic migration from random migrants as well as seekers of asylum. Migrants spread across
North America and Western Europe. The influx of migrants in turn lead to a change in border
controls and created a push to restrict particular kinds of maneuverability. There were speculations
that migration would become an apparent

The Most Famous Work Of Art
The 13th and 14th centuries in Italy are as known as the early Renaissance. Several artists remain
well recognized from this period in art history. Duccio di Buoninsegna was an Italian painter,
active in the city of Siena. His most famous work of art is the Maesta Altarpiece located in the
Cathedral of Siena. At that time, Siena was very competitive with Florence. The greatest Florentine
painter was Giotto di Bondone. He was a couple years younger than Duccio. Giotto s crowning
achievement is a series of frescomurals painted in the Arena Chapel. Duccio and Giotto were two
astonishing artists.

His stillness is in contrast to the crowd, it allows scenes flow around him. Judas reaches and
kisses Christ from the left, there appear to be regret in Judas face. There is not apparent though
his aggressive posture. Christ s right hand is pointing forward. This may express Christ s future
forgiveness of Judas. Duccio s depiction leaves more space for imagination for the viewer. In
Giotto s painting, Christ is in profile. This allows for eye contact between Christ and Judas.
Christ is a little taller than Judas, and he gaze silently upon Judas s face. From the gaze of the
Christ, we can feel a sense of forgiveness and sorrow. Moreover, we can feel Juda feels sorry for
what he has done. Their expressions make the painting more emotional, they emphasize the nobility
of the Christ and let viewer have a better connection to this emotional content.
Both Duccio and Giotto captured the act of Saint Peter slicing an ear off of a roman solider.
Duccio is telling the story of the arrest of Christ though a passing of time. In Duccio s painting,
we can clearly see the anger on Peter s face, he is next to Judas on his left. The viewer will draw
their attention to Peter after viewing the moment of the kiss of Judas. Duccio made it a separate
moment from the main scene. In Giotto s painting, Peter is in the crowd he raises up his right arm,
which is holding a knife and reaches behind the

Notes On Productivity And Performance Management
Introduction
In Unit 3 you will review Chapter 6 Productivity and Performance Management, and Chapter 7
Operational Metrics in health Care. Productivity and performance management is important for
healthcare managers as this will ensure the healthcare organization or department is more cost
effective and efficient over time. This is done by reducing costs, eliminating waste, and ensuring
efficiency in use of resources. The main focus of productivity management is the ratio of outputs to
inputs. The single and multifactor productivity ratios can be calculated to understand the
relationship between outputs and inputs. Labor staffing models should be used to align volume or
demand with resources. Internal consistent measuring and applying them over the long term will
show how a manager added value and a positive effect on the business operations. Operations
metrics is very useful from a production perspective in that you can monitor units per input per
units of output. From the clinical perspective care managers can quickly access clinical performance
against industry benchmark or an internal baseline value. In order to get a better understanding, let
s discuss metric driven performance improvement and databases that supports it.
Using Metrics for Performance Improvement
Surviving in the healthcare industry is no easy task. Part of staying afloat is improving
performance continually. To do so there needs to be a measurable goal, a timeline to achieve it, and

The Conflict Between Jewish And Arab State
Although Palestine declared independence as an Arab state, it still face obstacles in achieving its
sovereignty. Former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat planned to officially announce the statehood
of Palestine in 1996 (Quigley). This action received a strong response from Israeli Prime Minister
Benjamin Netanyahu. Netanyahu said recognition of Palestinian statehood would nullify the Israeli
Palestinian agreement. From this notion, Netanyahu threatened to invade Palestinian territories like
the West Bank of Jordan River. The settlements have been a prominent feature in hindering peaceful
treaties. Israelclaims that it should have territorial rights to its settlements while Palestines cannot
negotiate on land that Israel continues to occupy. The tensions between the Jewish and Arab state
continued to grow as Israel expanded Jewish settlements in the West Bank. According to the United
Nations, these settlements are illegal under international law. This violates the Fourth Geneva
Convention which prohibits states to occupy land in a war zone (League). Both sides of the
government have been unable to communicate effectively to determine an agreement to resolve the
territorial dispute. This conflict has expanded over three decades, resulting in hundreds of
thousands of deaths and the suffering of many innocent Jewish and Arab civilians. The support of
Palestine statehood provides a solution that could bring long term peace to the area. Recognition of

Challenges Of College Students
For first year students coming straight from high school, college life can either be very exciting or
overwhelming depending on how well one prepares for it. Some have the notion that college is fun
and is all about partying, while some believe that it is an environment in which they can achieve the
ultimate freedom thus escape the stringent rules made by their parents at home. Others look
forward to experiencing a different learning environment while being exposed to different cultures
and sharing different academic knowledge. Successful assimilation into collegelife is determined by
the students capability to transform into the new role of a college student. Numerous students face

Allocating more time towards having fun rather than focusing on schoolwork or studying in
general also affects student s time management. Since they have every opportunity of flexibility
with minimal boundaries involved, there is the urge to enjoy the newfound liberty, and as a result,
neglect of assignments, deadlines bypassed and incompetent test results. For that reason, the
commitment to study is only realized when exams are approaching thereby causing panic to the
student as the realization that class materials have not been covered starts to arise. Finally, the
most difficult challenge students face in college is a financial hardship. Many students come
from various walks of life and sometimes determining one s financial capability to offset college
costs during the early stages of can be problematic. Some students come from well to do families
who have a tremendous capacity to pay full tuition without external assistance. These particular
students do not require financial aid or scholarships, as they can meet the institution s financial
requirement regardless of what level in college they may fall under as the source of wealth is

whom solely depend on financial aid and work full time or part time

My Passion For A Graduate Degree
I was born in Inglewood, CA, the son of two immigrant parents. Growing up, I always knew the
importance of education; it was ingrained in me by my mother and father. They grew up in
Mexico where they both loved school until their economic hardships forced them to come to the
U.S. and work. I am the first person in my family to go to college and will be the first to pursue a
graduate degree. The passion for education that my parents instilled, as well as my cultural values,
drives me to pursue a graduate degree. Early in my undergraduate educationI became interested in
researchand statistics, specifically related to education. My passion for quantitative methods came
after I enrolled in my Psychological Methods class. This inspired me to expand my knowledge of
statistics and go outside the department to enroll in other advanced statistics courses. These
classroom experiences along with applied research and evaluation experience culminated with me
wanting to obtain a graduate degree in quantitative methods. I want to be able to give back to my
community and I hope to fulfill this goal by conducting research with underrepresented populations,
like the Latino population and believe the Universityof Maryland would be a great stepping stone to
my goal.
When I first came to college, I had no idea what the experience would be like, but I was excited for
this new chapter in my life. I enrolled in courses I thought I would easily surpass, but a couple of

Strengths
Lego s key strengths may be seen as coming from both its brand recognition and its ability to use
innovative technology without moving away from the company s core values. Whilst there are
many other competitors in the toy or children s entertainment market Lego remains the brand of
choice in the field of construction toys despite the fall of other long term historical brand such as
Meccano (V A 2010) and the rise of alternative substitute products such as video games (BBC News
2004). As the case study indicates despite the traditional nature of the Lego offering the company
has a strong association with contemporary IT, design and manufacturing systems which help to
make the product both more durable as well as helping to reduce manufacturing costs thus making
the field of technology as key strength for the business.
Weaknesses
Lego s key weakness in the run up to 2004 may be seen as two fold. Firstly the company has
failed in a key area of the understanding of marketing in regard to understanding the needs of their
customers which may be seen as the focal point of the marketing concept (Brassington and Pettitt
2007). This can be clearly seen in the role out of the

Benefits Of A Incentive Pay For Teachers
Incentive Pay for Teachers
If you re a student, it may not be long before you find yourself in a classroom competing with
peers from all over the world. With the ensuing tide of globalization, the top companies and firms
will be able to look beyond students from local schools and access a growing global talent pool.
Over the last two decades, countries around the world have focused on expanding and innovating
education as the key to maximizing well being, reducing poverty, and increasing economic growth.
As a result, Canada may soon find itself trailing behind international standards, which would gravely
impact Canada s ability to stay competitive with the global economy. Having spent the second most
out of 32 developed countries in the world, Canadians understand the importance of investing in
education. Improving education outcomes is a key priority for governments around the world, if
Canada wants to stay competitive it must be willing to innovate. One idea long neglected: incentive
pay for teachers.
It sounds simple enough: an honest day s pay for an honest day s work, those who achieve better
results should be better compensated in return. But depending on who you ask, the notion is either
rationally straightforward or utterly perverse.
The idea that teachers should be compensated based on their performance has Canadians entrenched
in a heated debate. In 2014, a report published by the Fraser Institute advocating for teacher
incentive pay was immediately met with

The Earth s Need for Population Limitation Laws Essay
Earth s population is increasing, and areas which are already home to millions are continuing to
expand. As these cities continue to grow, when the population reaches a certain point it is
referred to as a megacity, a megacity is a metropolitan area with a total population of 10 million
plus. These megacities are so large that they are becoming out of control settlements, cities like
Los Angeles and Tokyo are being forced to expand upwards due to having to accommodate for the
thriving population. These cities are also faced with the issue of not having enough resources such
as food and water to support the demand required. With megacities rampant growth with it bring a

By doing this not only is it costly, but they must ensure that the water is shared with other smaller
neighboring cities and rural areas.
Just like Los Angeles, Tokyo, Japan is another example of how megacities are out of control
settlements. Tokyo is located in the southern Kanto region, positioned in approximately the centre
of the Japanese archipelago (islands that formed the country of Japan) (see appendix three). Toyko s
population in the metropolis as of 2012 was approximately 37.2 million people (Allianz, 2014).
With such a high population in such a dense urban area these megacities are being forced to
expand upwards in order to accommodate for the citizens (see appendix Three). However by
doing this many risks are associated, for example, Tokyo sits on fault lines that make up a part of
the Ring of Fire, meaning that there are high chances of natural disasters to occur at any time (The
telegraph, 2011). Megan Linkin, a natural disaster expert from Swiss re states:
This quotation is stating that due to Tokyo s geographical placement that a natural disaster like
earthquakes, tsunami s or volcanic activty could occur at any given moment. So when a natural
disaster does occur it is likely to result in a high number of collapsing buildings and other
infrastructure which were designed for large numbers of residents. This will result in a large
number of casualties and because of the

Causes And Effects Of Air Pollution In China
Introduction It is very obvious to notice the impact of climate change in my hometown, China. I
was born in Shanghai in 1998, when I was a child, it was not a fresh news when people saw the
blue skies. But now, it is. Currently, almost every adult around me is talking about air pollution
issue. Filtering face masks and air purifiers which can be placed in homes are two popular goods.
Although everyone understands that this issue is very serious, it seems that no one can explain it
clearly in details. Since the influence of climate change in China is a fairly wide range of topic, I
choose to mainly discuss air pollutionas a result of it closely relating to the quality of people s daily
life which people have to breathe every minute. At the beginning of twenty first century, the carbon
dioxideemission in China continue boosting to higher points, and also currently, China is suffering
from one of the worst air pollution in the world. The serious air pollution brings direct and indirect
danger threatening the population health. Scholars from different perspectives, such as economic,
healthy and ecological all strongly recommend that China need to reduce air pollution. Both a few
policies from both federal government and municipal government were implemented, but sadly, the
predicational outcome may not as satisfying as them should be.

dramatically economic growth which is driven by

1976. Then it went cold. Forty one years later, investigators had two suspects (Thompson). After so

Cases that formerly did not have enough circumstantial evidence, nor any useful evidence at all

preservation, meticulously maintained notes, and a drive to protect the truth are coming into
play for cold cases to finally be resolved. Such is the case with the 1973 California murders
(Thompson). It was the drive for finality that eventually caught, arrested, and convicted two men
who did horrendous things to two young girls. The families, despite the years, craved an end to
the nightmare and justice for the little girls that they had lost. Investigators were only able to
reopen the case because they had a new arsenal of tools to help them expand upon the evidence
that was present at the scene: the men s DNA from the rape kits. Cross examining those DNA
samples with that in a database brought upon the discovery of the two men, who now lived states

Margaret Atwood s Duality
Margaret Eleanor Atwood popularly known as Margaret Atwood is a Canadian writer, poet,

including the Booker Prize, Arthur C. Clarke Award, the Governor General s Award, etc. In Violent
Duality: A Study of Margaret Atwood, Sherrill Grace wrote that Atwood s works are the pull
towards art on one hand and towards life on the other . She further explains that Atwood has
always been well aware of her subjects irrespective of its genderor type and thus always worked
within them. One of the most remarkable features of Atwood s poetry is the duality which is
presented through separation, says The Art of Margaret Atwood: Essays in Criticism. Atwood s
work beautifully elaborated the idea of alienation and the need for human communication. She tries
to draw the attention of the audience towards the need of a balanced society or a communicating
structure for humans. The suffering in her works, especially around the female character, was the
result of her experience with the women who generally suffered in some on the other way, she

Forms of graphene
Graphene can exist in many forms such as bilayers, nanostripes, graphite oxides, ligand complex,

that tightly packed together which form a two dimensional honeycomb lattices. The thin layer
honeycomb shaped graphene can be wrapped up or rolled up into 1D nanotubes or stacked into

For example, graphene bilayers were applied widely in manufacturing zero gap semiconductor.

Gender Based Violence Against Women
GENDER BASED VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN: A CLOSER LOOK AT INDIA S RAPE
PROBLEM
Background
When the sex of a girl or a woman drives the infliction of violence towards them, it is regarded as
a form of gender based violence (Heise et al., 2002). Violence against women, regardless of the
form, can occur in various stages of the woman s life (Murthy and Smith, 2010), and refers not
only to physical and sexual acts of violence, but also encompasses verbal abuse, emotional torture,
economic deprivation, and social disregard (Kapoor and Dhingra, 2013).
An official report by the World Health Organization estimates that globally, 1 in 3 women are
affected by physical and/or sexual violence by a partner and sexual violence by a non partner, and
therefore deeming the issue as a global pandemic that require attention of all stakeholders.
Regionally, violence against women in South East Asia is highest with a 37.7% prevalent rate, a
slightly higher number compared to the Eastern Mediterranean (37%) and African (36.6%) region
(World Health Organization, 2013).
Out of all forms of violence against women, rape is one of the most common and is also one the
most harshest. Rape is traditionally defined as any forced sexual intercourse without one s consent.
However, it has been extended now to other forms of contact involving sexual organs that is against
one s will (Ellis, 1991). Because a majority of rape cases involve a male perpetrator and a female
victim, it is considered a gender based

The Old Market Woman Is A Marble Statue
The Old Market Woman, is a marble statue that dates back to the Early Imperial period, which
also known as the Hellenistic period. Artists became fascinated with the idea of childhood and

characteristics that catches the viewer s eyes. We are naturally attracted to beauty as humans.
What the artist of The Old Market Woman did, though was they had taken that beauty that we
are attracted to, and transforms it into reality and then uses it to tell a story. The use of realism

The theoretical framework I develop rests on the assumption that individuals are rational actors insofar as they calculate and act to maximize their expected utilities. An illustration of this assumption is found when the expected utility of continuing a war is outweighed by the expected utility of wartermination. When the expected costs of continuing a war exceed the expected benefits, the relevant actors will begin to press for peace. I further assume that leaders act to maximize their chances of retaining office and that they are accountable to a domestic audience. The composition and preferences of this domestic audience varies systematically across regime type, as does their ability to credibly deter the leader. This has important... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The volume and intensity of conflict drive the rate at which these costs accrue. They may vary intermittently in a smoldering dispute or accumulate more quickly in open conflict. Regardless of this rate, I assume the longer a war continues, the more costs will mount, and the more likely that one side will begin to press for a settlement. While some will oppose or support a conflict regardless of the human or economic cost, most determine their support by paying particular attention to these wartime losses. Both a leader and their domestic audience will calculate their expected utilities and update their expectations by observing these outcomes. More important to consider is the point at which the anticipated benefits of continued conflict is outweighed by the anticipated costs of terminating conflict for a leader s domestic audience. Remembering that a leader acts to maximize their chances of retaining office and that they are ultimately held accountable to a domestic audience, the demands of a domestic audience unsatisfied with the costs of war is important to consider in the ability of states to wage extended wars. This cost sensitivity argument has typically underpinned empirical observations on the tendency of democracies to fight uniformly shorter wars. Autocratic leaders, it was argued, do not labor under such restraints ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Industrialization allowed a shift to factories, special purpose machinery, and mass production. In the 1800s when industrialization became popular in England, it took the rest of the world by storm. England was now using new inventions that allowed for an improvement socially and economically. As time continued and England had an increasing demand for goods, more cost efficient methods like the factorysystem and the rise of mechanization came into play. Along with many new inventions, the telegraph was invented and allowed for a whole new world of communication. At the time, people in Europeand America lacked quick forms of communication. There was political turmoil among the upper classes, huge population growth among the peasants, and frustrated bourgeois class. High taxes, low prices for tobacco, and resentment against special privileges given those close to the governor, Sir William Berkeley, provided the background for the uprising. These factors made the rebellion inevitable. All of the chaos was precipitated by Governor Berkeley s failure to defend the frontier against attacks by Native Americans. Bacon commanded two unauthorized but successful expeditions against the tribes and was then elected to the new House of Burgesses, which Berkeley had been forced to convene. Hailstorms, floods, dry spells, and hurricanes rocked the colony during one year and had a damaging effect on the colonists. Inevitably, these difficulties encouraged the colonists to find a scapegoat. They needed to find something to vent their frustrations and place the blame for their misfortunes. With the immense frustration and anger among the colonists, they began to scapegoat the local Indians. To ward off future attacks and to control the situation, Governor Berkeley instigated the matter. He set up what was to be a disastrous meeting between the parties, which resulted in the murders of several tribal chiefs. In the meantime, Berkeley continually pleaded for restraint from the colonists. Some, including Nathaniel Bacon, refused to listen. Bacon disregarded the Governor s direct orders by seizing some friendly Appomattox Indians for stealing corn. Berkeley scolded him, which caused the disgruntled Virginians to wonder which man had taken the right action. • 11. My Creation Of A Soundtrack For Octavia E. Butler s... Soundtracks to films often strive to represent the themes and feeling of the film, and direct the audience towards particular emotions. A good soundtrack not only allows for the listener to understand the film better, but it should also bring to mind particular scenes, images, or characters. Soundtracks for books can do the same. In my creation of a soundtrack for Octavia E. Butlers Parable of the Sower, I strove to encompass Lauren s journey throughout the novel and the various emotions that she experiences. Since Lauren is reflecting on her experiences, her journey becomes central to how the audience feels and experiences the emotional aspects of the book. The songs not only represent Lauren, but also the entire feel and theme of the text. The songs follow along with Lauren, with her despair, death, and the need for survival. As I scoured through song after song, I tried to connect each song choice with a particular moment in Lauren s story and the hopelessness of a dystopian future Butler warns her audience about. The first track is Things We Lost in the Fire by the band Bastille, and is one of the more literal song selections about the event that triggers the rest of the events in the story to occur: the death of her father, the pyros, the destruction of her community. The song is literally about things that burn up and leave, never to be seen again. Fire plays a key role in the fear aspect of the book; fire is synonymous with chaos. Not only does the song ... In particular, I will be looking at examples from the Permian era, where large basaltic flood eruptions have been associated with mass extinctions and the most voluminous explosive super eruptions have been held responsible for initiating the episodes of severe global cooling known as volcanic winters (Rampino 1992, 1993a cited by McGuire et al 2002:88) and I will also be looking at instances from the more recent Holocene. We are able to study their impacts through various scientific means (such as examining northern and southern hemisphere ice cores), and are able to explore the control they have had upon our climate in the preceding years and how they have influenced it today. Productivity and performance management is important for healthcare managers as this will ensure the healthcare organization or department is more cost effective and efficient over time. This is done by reducing costs, eliminating waste, and ensuring efficiency in use of resources. The main focus of productivity management is the ratio of outputs to inputs. The single and multifactor productivity ratios can be calculated to understand the relationship between outputs and inputs. Labor staffing models should be used to align volume or demand with resources. Internal consistent measuring and applying them over the long term will show how a manager added value and a positive effect on the business operations. • 30. My Passion For A Graduate Degree I was born in Inglewood, CA, the son of two immigrant parents. Growing up, I always knew the importance of education; it was ingrained in me by my mother and father. They grew up in Mexico where they both loved school until their economic hardships forced them to come to the U.S. and work. I am the first person in my family to go to college and will be the first to pursue a graduate degree. The passion for education that my parents instilled, as well as my cultural values, drives me to pursue a graduate degree. Early in my undergraduate educationI became interested in researchand statistics, specifically related to education. My passion for quantitative methods came after I enrolled in my Psychological Methods class. This inspired me to expand my knowledge of statistics and go outside the department to enroll in other advanced statistics courses. These classroom experiences along with applied research and evaluation experience culminated with me wanting to obtain a graduate degree in quantitative methods. I want to be able to give back to my community and I hope to fulfill this goal by conducting research with underrepresented populations, like the Latino population and believe the Universityof Maryland would be a great stepping stone to my goal. When I first came to college, I had no idea what the experience would be like, but I was excited for this new chapter in my life. I enrolled in courses I thought I would easily surpass, but a couple of weeks into them, I felt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Benefits Of A Incentive Pay For Teachers Incentive Pay for Teachers If you re a student, it may not be long before you find yourself in a classroom competing with peers from all over the world. With the ensuing tide of globalization, the top companies and firms will be able to look beyond students from local schools and access a growing global talent pool. Over the last two decades, countries around the world have focused on expanding and innovating education as the key to maximizing well being, reducing poverty, and increasing economic growth. As a result, Canada may soon find itself trailing behind international standards, which would gravely impact Canada s ability to stay competitive with the global economy. Having spent the second most out of 32 developed countries in the world, Canadians understand the importance of investing in education. Improving education outcomes is a key priority for governments around the world, if Canada wants to stay competitive it must be willing to innovate. One idea long neglected: incentive pay for teachers. It sounds simple enough: an honest day s pay for an honest day s work, those who achieve better results should be better compensated in return. But depending on who you ask, the notion is either rationally straightforward or utterly perverse. The idea that teachers should be compensated based on their performance has Canadians entrenched in a heated debate. In 2014, a report published by the Fraser Institute advocating for teacher incentive pay was immediately met with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As these cities continue to grow, when the population reaches a certain point it is referred to as a megacity, a megacity is a metropolitan area with a total population of 10 million plus. These megacities are so large that they are becoming out of control settlements, cities like Los Angeles and Tokyo are being forced to expand upwards due to having to accommodate for the thriving population. These cities are also faced with the issue of not having enough resources such as food and water to support the demand required. By doing this not only is it costly, but they must ensure that the water is shared with other smaller neighboring cities and rural areas. Just like Los Angeles, Tokyo, Japan is another example of how megacities are out of control settlements. Tokyo is located in the southern Kanto region, positioned in approximately the centre of the Japanese archipelago (islands that formed the country of Japan) (see appendix three). Toyko s population in the metropolis as of 2012 was approximately 37.2 million people (Allianz, 2014). With such a high population in such a dense urban area these megacities are being forced to expand upwards in order to accommodate for the citizens (see appendix Three). However by doing this many risks are associated, for example, Tokyo sits on fault lines that make up a part of the Ring of Fire, meaning that there are high chances of natural disasters to occur at any time (The telegraph, 2011). Megan Linkin, a natural disaster expert from Swiss re states: This quotation is stating that due to Tokyo s geographical placement that a natural disaster like earthquakes, tsunami s or volcanic activty could occur at any given moment. So when a natural disaster does occur it is likely to result in a high number of collapsing buildings and other infrastructure which were designed for large numbers of residents. This will result in a large number of casualties and because of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I was born in Shanghai in 1998, when I was a child, it was not a fresh news when people saw the blue skies. But now, it is. Currently, almost every adult around me is talking about air pollution issue. Filtering face masks and air purifiers which can be placed in homes are two popular goods. Although everyone understands that this issue is very serious, it seems that no one can explain it clearly in details. Since the influence of climate change in China is a fairly wide range of topic, I choose to mainly discuss air pollutionas a result of it closely relating to the quality of people s daily life which people have to breathe every minute. At the beginning of twenty first century, the carbon dioxideemission in China continue boosting to higher points, and also currently, China is suffering from one of the worst air pollution in the world. The serious air pollution brings direct and indirect danger threatening the population health. Scholars from different perspectives, such as economic, healthy and ecological all strongly recommend that China need to reduce air pollution. Both a few policies from both federal government and municipal government were implemented, but sadly, the predicational outcome may not as satisfying as them should be. Now the combination of careful preservation, meticulously maintained notes, and a drive to protect the truth are coming into play for cold cases to finally be resolved. Such is the case with the 1973 California murders (Thompson). It was the drive for finality that eventually caught, arrested, and convicted two men who did horrendous things to two young girls. The families, despite the years, craved an end to the nightmare and justice for the little girls that they had lost. Investigators were only able to reopen the case because they had a new arsenal of tools to help them expand upon the evidence that was present at the scene: the men s DNA from the rape kits. Cross examining those DNA samples with that in a database brought upon the discovery of the two men, who now lived states away from the scene of the crime, and both of whom had been convicted of other charges. Victory cases such as these are common now to see and hear about, with nearly every month finding that there is another case that could finally be resolved, that could finally unveil the truth, and none done so ... She further explains that Atwood has always been well aware of her subjects irrespective of its genderor type and thus always worked within them. One of the most remarkable features of Atwood s poetry is the duality which is presented through separation, says The Art of Margaret Atwood: Essays in Criticism. Atwood s work beautifully elaborated the idea of alienation and the need for human communication. She tries to draw the attention of the audience towards the need of a balanced society or a communicating structure for humans. The suffering in her works, especially around the female character, was the result of her experience with the women who generally suffered in some on the other way, she explained. Gender Based Violence Against Women GENDER BASED VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN: A CLOSER LOOK AT INDIA S RAPE PROBLEM Background When the sex of a girl or a woman drives the infliction of violence towards them, it is regarded as a form of gender based violence (Heise et al., 2002). Violence against women, regardless of the form, can occur in various stages of the woman s life (Murthy and Smith, 2010), and refers not only to physical and sexual acts of violence, but also encompasses verbal abuse, emotional torture, economic deprivation, and social disregard (Kapoor and Dhingra, 2013). An official report by the World Health Organization estimates that globally, 1 in 3 women are affected by physical and/or sexual violence by a partner and sexual violence by a non partner, and therefore deeming the issue as a global pandemic that require attention of all stakeholders. Regionally, violence against women in South East Asia is highest with a 37.7% prevalent rate, a slightly higher number compared to the Eastern Mediterranean (37%) and African (36.6%) region (World Health Organization, 2013). Out of all forms of violence against women, rape is one of the most common and is also one the most harshest. Rape is traditionally defined as any forced sexual intercourse without one s consent. However, it has been extended now to other forms of contact involving sexual organs that is against one s will (Ellis, 1991). We are naturally attracted to beauty as humans. What the artist of The Old Market Woman did, though was they had taken that beauty that we are attracted to, and transforms it into reality and then uses it to tell a story. The use of realism relates strongly to the religion that the Woman of this statue believed in. When examining the statue, there is an old woman bent and weary. Her posture helps clue us in, with her age and the state of her health. The figure is dressed in cloth that drapes off her body as she carries a basket that is filled with what we may think are offerings. On her head, there are vines that create a band around the top of her head used to signify the festival that was going on during that time. The specific detail that is seen on this statue persuades us to want to know the story of this woman. Doing so, the process involves lots of research about the time and art.
