The Trial Process For A Criminal Case
Introduction There are many aspects of the pre trial process for a criminal case.
First step of the process begins with the persons arrest. A suspect is then booked
into the system and may be able to post bail. Then comes the arraignment and they
maybe a possible plea bargain and then a preliminary hearing if no plea bargain is
reached. Two Types of Crimes In Pretrial criminal cases there are two types of
crimes, misdemeanors and felonies. There are two events that can occur. One is a
criminal complaint and the other is a warrantless arrest. A warrantless arrest can
happen if someone commits a crime right in the presence of an officer. The officer
does not have time to go get an arrest warrant and go find the suspect. So in this case

Some jurisdictions don t require an initial appearance by the suspect. The suspect
should be brought before a judge within a reasonable amount of time, ideally less
than 6 hours. The initial appearance advises the suspect of the reason for
detainment, their right to have appointed counsel, their protection against self
incrimination. Bail can also be set at this point. The initial appearance is usually a
brief hearing. Probable Cause Hearing The 4th Amendment requires that a
probable cause hearing be held if an arrest is made without a warrant. The purpose
of the probable cause hearing is to determine if there is probable cause to hold a
person in custody. To prevent prolonged confinement the probable cause hearing is
usually held quickly to determine the validity of the arrest charges. A neutral party
needs to determine the validity so that the suspect is not detained unnecessarily as
detainment affects their income and family. Bail If someone has been arrested for a
minor offense and does not pose a flight risk they may be eligible for pre trial
release. If there is a chance the suspect might not show up for court then they are
likely to remain jailed until their court date. To insure that a suspect will show up for
their court date they are required to post bail. This is a payment made to the court on
behalf of the suspect. The Eighth Amendment states that
Argumentative Essay On Drugs
Truth Serums have been widely used as a so called zombie drug in many articles. In
the 1920s, Robert House, a doctor from Texas, identified the drug as a means to
extract information. In the next epoch, barbiturates including sodium amytal and
sodium pentothal were introduced. Many feel that in the light of the sudden growth
of crime in the world, these drugs should be used as an identification element in
criminal investigation just like how the former CIA officials and Indian Judicial
officials utilized it. However, Advocates strongly oppose the idea to enforce such
method on the public. Both sides believe they are in the right and the other is wrong,
but the point still remains that this so called truthserum is a drug that should not be
used in any situation.
The way truth serums act is like any psychoactive drugs used to obtain information
from those unable and unwilling to do so; it causes people to become uninhibited and
talkative. In 1922, it occurred to Robert House, a Dallas, Texas, obstetrician, that a
similar technique might be employed in the interrogation of suspected criminals, and
he arranged to interview under scopolamine two prisoners in the Dallas county jail
whose guilt seemed clearly confirmed. Under the drug, both men denied the charges
on which they were held; and both, upon trial, were found not guilty. Enthusiastic at
this success, House concluded that a patient under the influence of scopolamine
cannot create a lie ... and there is no power to
The Cost Of Attending College Analysis
The Cost of Attending College
I m not going to college my friend told me over the phone one day during a
conversation we were having. I was somewhat surprised, but his decision did not
catch me completely off guard. We had discussed the topic before and he mentioned
his consideration to not attend college after he graduated from high school. He
believed that even though he would probably enjoy going to college and learning
new information, college was not the best option for him. He is smart; however, he
was already working various jobs and projects while in high school, sometimes
missing school to complete his responsibilities. He was making much more money
during high school than most students his age. He applied and was accepted at various

There are many factors that play into someone s choice of attending college:
interests, goals, prior education level, intelligence, financial situation, as well as
many others. The higher the cost of attending college and obtaining a degree goes,
the more pertinent this question becomes to society. The type of job a person is
planning on obtaining after he completes his college education greatly impacts the
value of his degree. Acquiring a well paying job after leaving college is the only
way for a college graduate to effectively pay off his student loans. Before someone
can earn a degree and enter into the workforce, they must do well and complete all
of their years in college. If a student goes through college for one year or two and
then drops out and enters the workforce, he has wasted his time and

Statement of Purpose
What a computer is to me is the most remarkable tool that we have ever come up
with. It s the equivalent of a bicycle of our minds Steve Jobs.
The present world is the world of technology. Computers and advancement of
technology is playing an increasingly crucial role in today s world. More and more
countries are increasingly moving towards a digital economy. The sovereign
governments can take important and useful inputs through analysis of vast ocean of
data and efficient use of technology, in the formulation of economic and social
policies and programs. A vast amount of data is collected by various entities and if
data is properly organised, analysed and stored, it can be of immense use to the
stakeholders.
The contribution I can make to this fast changing society is by dedicating myself to
the effective use of technology by increasing my knowledge and upgrading my

Battle Of Yorktown Essay
On October 18, 1781 Cornwallis and his army surrendered. The Continental Army
was looking for hope, as they were entering the Battle of Yorktown. They were
weak and very poor. In 1778 France became an alliance with the Americans, and
both countries were hoping for a short battle. Sadly, that was not the case. The
French and the Americans realized they were desperately in need of a new strategy.
They needed Generals to work together and figure out a way to merge the two forces.
General George Washingtonand General Rochambeau worked together to merge the
forces. The French brought over supplies to help the Continental Army. On thing they
brought over were siege guns. The guns were an advantage because the British didn t

Cornwallis brought his army to Yorktown to setup a base, but what he didn t know,
was that General Lafayette and some of the American troops were following him
from a cautious distance. What Cornwallis didn t know was that his base was against
his advantage. He trapped his army on a Peninsula, next to Chesapeake Bay.
Unfortunately, the Americans didn t have a navy but the French did. In the battle of
Chesapeake Bay, which was going on during the Battle of Yorktown, the French navy
helped the Americans trap the British on the cost of Virginia. Boats were one of the
most important weapons in the battle of Yorktown. However if the French Navy didn
t come to help, Cornwallis would ve gotten reinforcements and supplies, and the war
would have been in favor of the British. The outcome of the Battle of Chesapeake Bay
was essential to the success of the Continental Army at the Battle of Yorktown. In
addition to trapping the British, the Franco American army bombarded the British
troops. At the Battle of Yorktown, the British shot first but once the Americans
started shooting they didn t stop. To prevent the British from regaining their strength,
Washington instructed his army to fire through the night. This tactic helped the
Americans a lot, if they stopped firing the British could ve regained their strength and
might have had a chance of success in the Battle of
Brugghen s Calling Of St. Matthew Of 1621
Dutch art created during the span of 1610 to 1630 display a vast array of thematic
categories. These categories include portraiture, genre, landscape, and history
paintings. In spite of such diversity towards subject matter, the artworks all have
certain characteristics in common with each other. Three of the shared, underlying
principles are an Italian influence, sense of attributing traits to the figures to increase
relatability, and emphasis on the humble. A tradition of journeying to Rome, Italy for
training or to simply improve upon one s artistic skills was carried out by many
Dutch history and genrewith landscape painters. As a result, the use of the Italians as
a source of inspiration and emulation can be identified in their works and presents one
of the underlying principles that connects the different thematic categories together.
Hendrick ter Brugghen was a history painter who belonged to the Utrecht
Caravaggists. Just as the name of the group implies, these artists were from Utrecht
and heavily influenced by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. Ter Brugghen s
Calling of Saint Matthew of 1621 provides an exemplary example of this. It is not
only similar to Caravaggio s own Calling of Saint Matthew of 1599 to 1600 with the

The thematic categories of portraiture, genre, landscape, and history paintings
initially appear to have nothing in common. Upon further analyzation, however, they
share some significant, underlying principles. These include an influence from the
Italians, attributing characteristics to the figures so that the viewers can connect to
them, and focusing on the humble. History, genre with landscape, and portraiture
paintings all referenced back to older Italian artworks, while at the same time, genre
and other portrait pieces attempt to achieve relatability. Furthermore, history and
landscape art focus on the simple, plain, and humble through the
Evaluation Of A Team Training Program
If I were the coach of a softball team and had to formulate a pre season, in season,
and post season work out program I would start by making a list for each to stay on
track. For pre season, things I would bullet point would be; running, weight
training, skill specific sessions and learning strategies. Next would be for in
season practices and this is going to be my maintenance phase. Last is the post
season part that is focusing on getting ready for the next year so I would bullet
point these topics; weight training, running, skill specific practices, and leave room
for participation in other sports as well. A pre season training program should start
8 12 weeks prior to the first competition date (Powers 2012). This part of the season
is to increase energy systems used in this particular sport to their maximum
potential. With my softball team in a pre season session, I would start with weight
training and running to increase each individual player s strength and endurance.
Strength and endurance training should be done on alternating days to optimize
strength gains but can be done together depending on what the coach is trying to
accomplish. According to Powers, if these two types of training are done together,
there may be a lower gain in strength than with only strength training itself. Things
that I would like to do for endurance with softball players would be home to outfield
sprints with walk back recoveries about 8 to 10 times with 3 sets of high knee drills

The Similarities Of Charlemagne And The Medieval Age
During the time period of 400 A.D to 1500, otherwise known as the Medieval Age,
there lived a variety of important people to history, ranging from political characters
to simple yet dangerous travelers. Of all these important people, the political
character Charlemagne and the cultural icon Geoffrey Chaucer stand out as having
many similarities and a few differences that are worth describing in detail to really
see how alike people in the Medieval Age really were.
One similarity between Charlemagne and Geoffrey Chaucer is that they were both
the Father of something. This title meant that the person of interest played a big part
in a change that became the new norm for the rest of history. Charlemagne was
known as the Father of Europe and Geoffrey was known as the Father of English
Literature . Charlemagne was the former king of the Franks, king of the Lombards,
and was the first Roman emperor for the Holy Roman Empire. One of his reigns were
the Franks, which were a Germanic tribe in Belgium, France, Luxemburg, the
Netherlands, and western Germany. One of his main goals were to unite all Germanic
tribes under one kingdom and convert them to Christianity. It was because of
Charlemagne that Christianity remained relevant in the west because of all his
efforts. Another one of his main goals was the Carolingian Renaissance, which he
wanted to be a cultural and intellectual revival of Europe. This meant that he wanted
Europe to become fuller of culture and intellectual

The community snapshot taught me several things. It taught me how important a
sense of community is for the families that attend Davis Magnet School. Davis
selects its students from a lottery from families that live in the Newport Mesa Unified
School District. This means that this is not a neighborhood school and the school
itself must create a feeling of a close community. The school has a daily school wide

Introduction. I decided I wanted to visit an Alcoholics Anonymousgroup meeting in
my local area. It would be a new experience for me because I have never been to
that type of meeting before in my life. I had only heard of A.A. and the support
groups they offer throughout the world. They offer meetings in every state of the
United States, Canada, Mexico, and in some International countries (United States
Alcoholics Anonymous). The meeting I attended consisted of about forty three
people, both men and women. The only type of meeting I had ever been to in my
life was either church related or business related. I chose to go to this type of
meeting for three reasons; I wanted to get out of my comfort zone, I have never
been around anyone with substance abuse, and I wanted to see the other side of
the spectrum to gain some insights from a different perspective. I am in Human
Services for the purpose of helping others in need. I can better help people if I
become knowledgeable in the areas where they need help the most. I grew up in

The first assignment to accomplish these goals is the Lyric Analysis Assignment.
This assignment is aligned with all four instructional goals. Students were asked to
analyze a song of their choice as if it were a poem. I used several reading strategies
for differentiation in my class while teaching analysis of poem or song. I allowed
them choice of song in their assignment as a strategy to engage the students in the
reading instruction. This is a tiered assignment with two parts. The strategy of
scaffolding the assignment into two manageable parts in which the second part
builds on the first allows the students to build on their thoughts in an organized
way. This is a good strategy for Kaylee in particular so she does not get
overwhelmed by the assignment as a whole. The students were to create a key using
Google Comments in Google Docs that included a minimum of four literary devices
that they found in their song. I use the Google Classroom and Google Apps for most
assignments now. Technology allows me to differentiate instruction to meet
instructional goals because I can provide immediate written feedback. This
circumvents the problems of just giving oral feedback. Kaylee will never lose the
feedback and she can always revisit it. They needed to include an inference sentence
for each device and explain the effect that the singer gains by using that device. I

Causes Child Labour
What are some of the causes of child labour?
Poverty and its related problems are the two main factors, which lead to the cause of
child labour around the world. They are both extreme dominant factors in the use of
child labour as families on or below the poverty line force their children into work to
supplement their household s extremely low income. Poverty around the world are
due to population pressure, land degradation, unemployment and underage
employment. Other main causes of child labour is due to cultural values. Some
countries encourage children to work to develop skills and they are considered assets
to generate income in a time of poverty. Other, smaller reasons include education
problems, over crowding, and inability to support schools, various conflict, war,
orphanhood and rapid urbanisation.

How can child labour be resolved?
The end of child labour is extremely critical to the growth, development and
technological advancement of countries that Australia relies on to produce materials,
goods and services that we purchase. Child labour has shown to increase adult
unemployment and depress national wages. Relying on child labour means that
workers of age are not being invested in or paid fairly, creates a society of adults

Symbolism In Kent Nerburn s Neither Wolf And Dog
The book Neither Wolf nor Dog, written by Kent Nerburn is an attempt at bringing
American Indians and non Indians together. The point the author makes in the
introduction, is that even though we are all different, we share a common place of
residence, and that is mother earth. There are vast amounts of history regarding
America and the land, but everyone s past is intertwined, and we cannot deny this.
This book is to connect the lives of very different people, instead of continuing the
division we see in the country today. There are many important issues pointed out
throughout the entirety of the book. The terms white supremacy, racism, and symbolic
violence, are all pointed out as you read the story. Using these ideas and terms, a
larger issue can be brought up, and that is that Native Americans were put into the
shadows, and the country slowly became what it is now, filled with racism and white
power. Other terms that arise throughout the reading are discrimination, skin color
privilege, and the 1887 Dawes Act. Together, the use of these terms shows the reader
the adversity that Native Americans face and the importance of preserving cultures.
Neither Wolf nor Dog is a powerful book that shows the unknown life of American
Indians, and rids the myths and stereotypes, while pointing out important issues in
America today. White supremacy is not specifically defined in Neither Wolf nor Dog,
but there are examples of the term throughout the book. The textbook RaceRacisms

Earthworm Gas Exchange Lab Report
Gas Exchange adaptations in Earthworms, Fish and Humans
Emma Booth
All living organisms need Gas exchange in order to generate energy which is formed
through this process, allowing other life processes to be carried out enabling them to
survive and reproduce. In aerobic respiration, oxygen and carbon dioxide are the main
gases involved. Gas exchange is when oxygen is diffused into the bloodstream
whilst carbon dioxide is released as a waste product.
For diffusion to be able to occur as quickly as possible, there must be a large

Humans live n a variety of terrestrial habitats such as hot, cold, mountains, cities
and desert. We require a large amount of energy because our body temperature
must be kept constantly at 37.3 degrees celsius but this is what allows us to live in
a range of different environments. Our brains are another reason why we need so
much energy, even though they are only 20% of our body mass they use 20% our
our daily energy intake. These two processes combines cause us to use 75% of our
energy not including movement.

British Philosopher Alan Watts chides American life choices saying, For the vast
majority of American families, what seems to be the real point of life what you rush
home to get to is to watch an electronic reproduction of life ... this purely passive
contemplation of a twittering screen. The evolution of technology, like the evolution
of man, continues to progress further, attaining new advancements and becoming
more efficient for human use. We live in a connected age, but people now feel
lonelier than ever. Relationships that turn intimate through face to face encounters are
now supplanted with relationships that depend on the use of technology to just
interact. Primarily, those who are lonely and desire a relationship or even a friendship
with others turn to technology to fill in the hole in their life. However, by ceasing
human connection, people are isolating themselves from society and segregating
themselves from the real world in place for a world controlled by unconscious
automatons. Theodore Twombly, the central character in Spike Jonze s romantic,
science fiction drama film Her, experiences this disconnection with the world.
Understandably, Twombly attempts to curtail his loneliness and purchases a talking
operating system with artificial intelligence. He soon develops an intimate
relationship with Samantha, the name for his operating system, and eventually falls

Reformers Impact On American Society
Impact of Reformers on American Society
Between 1800 and 1900 various types of reforms and reformers strived to make
America a better country. Whereas a majority of the population experienced a
good life, several contentious issues could not be hidden. These problems were
flagged and raised by the then reformers in the 1800s who were of the belief that
America could be a better society. Everyone living in America was attracted and
motivated by the available opportunities which included employment, acquisition of
wealth and living a quality life. Most of the population were not able to even o
exercise their fundamental human rights while a majority of the privileged were the
whites and the wealthy individuals. Among the prevailing issues was slavery, which
Garrison (1892) terms as a curse brought upon America while Dix (1843) points out
at the suffering experienced by the less privileged, isolation and being considered
outcasts. Among the reformers who were present in the 1800s were Finney (1836)
who points out the behaviors of the businesspeople and their conformity to the world,

these activities can be traced back to the 1800s. Their sole objective was to promote

The Determinant Of A Successful Career
The sports industry is an intense, highly competitive field of work which involves
a great deal of patience, dedication, and hard work. Not a lot of people have what it
takes to stay in the business for long but Mike Tomlin knows exactly what it takes.
He is a wonderful role model for people looking to do something similar or to be a
coach like himself. Being able to communicate properly with the players as well as
other people in this area of work is what will be the determinant of a successful
career. By watching how Tomlin conducts himself I can learn what I have to do in
order to be a successful coach one day. Mike Tomlin was born in Hampton,
Virginia, on March 15th, 1972, and is currently 44 years old. He has two brothers
and is the youngest in his family. In high school, Tomlin was an all star, he set his
school record with 20 touchdown catches. Due to his success in high school, he

Transcendentalism, Realism, Naturalism, And...
Transcendentalism, Realism, Naturalism, and Existentialism shaped the advancement
of American literature. They were considered to be theoretical and political
philosophies which held important positions in the development of modern literature.
The original authors, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Mark Twain, Lawrence Sargent Hall,
and Jerome David Salinger, presented works inspiring new perspectives and social
outlooks upon reality and it s offerings. Through characterizing the progress of the
philosophies, the development of American literature is explained. Transcendentalism
describes the idea that knowledge comes through intuition and imagination instead of
logic or the senses. In the essay, Nature, by Ralph Waldo Emerson, he begins it with

Epoxy Floor Coating Review
Epoxy Floor Coating Review
Epoxy is a kind of polymer material that starts like a liquid and it is transformed into
a good condition via a controlled chemical reaction. Due to this transformation in
condition, epoxy floor films are usually a robotically strong and chemically resistant
kind of flooring. Epoxy floor films are highly adhesive throughout the conversion
from liquid to solid permitting them to produce a secure bond with old and new
concrete flooring surfaces. You will find a multitude of programs and ways to use
epoxy films including epoxy floor fresh paint in industrial and commercial
configurations too for films on industrial equipment or machinery. Epoxy floor films
may also be used as vapor obstacles over concrete foundations
Rhetorical Analysis Of Blue Collar Men By Steve Olson
Society gives us labels everyday, they judge us by our occupation, race, language,
and much more. Steve Olson writes his opinion on why blue collar shirt men are
as important as white collar shirt men. The blue collar shirts represent construction
workers and people who typically work in an outside environment. The white
collar men represent the men that work in an office. His main point is to give blue
collar guys a label known as BCGs. Steve Olson uses imagery, provides examples,
uses tone, and gives counterpoints to help show that blue collar men have made
an impact in our everyday lifestyle. Steve Olson uses imagery as a rhetorical
device. When talking about the blue collar shirt men, he gives them a stereotypical
image from the beginning. Olson states, BCGs have been portrayed as beer
drinking, big bellied, bigoted rednecks who dress badly (1). In our minds, it
displays the image of a man with a big belly who does not dress to impress. It is
easy to imagine the typical blue collar guy that Olson portrays. Steve Olson says,

The Characters Of Moses In The Bible s Exodus
In the Bible as in Literature, the characters face many problems to appease to God.
While Moses is a featured character in the book of Exodus, Moses faces a great deal
of problems that he somehow manages to overcome, and stay strong in the faith of
God. What separates Moses from other characters is how much he accomplishes
through his struggles, which start the second he is born. Mosesbecomes one of the
most well known biblical figures, Moses stands up to the Egyptians for his people,
and most importantly saves an entire religion.
Around the time of Moses s birth, a large number of the Hebrew population in
Egypt was enslaved by the Pharaoh. Pharaoh was afraid of what would happen if
the Hebrew population continued to grow. Every son that is born to the Hebrews
you shall cast into the Nile, but you shall let every daughter live. (110) Moses s
mother refused to let this happen so she made a basket coated with tar and sent the
basket, with Moses inside, down the Nile river. To anyone s surprise, Moses survived
and happened to float into a part of the river where the Pharaoh s daughter was
bathing. Pharaoh s daughter took Moses and saw that he was a Hebrew child and
decided to keep him as her son. Even though Moses was too young to recognize this
as a problem, it s amazing how he was able to survive the Nile, and to be raised as a
royal member of the family, considering his, Grandfather , had ordered all Hebrew
male babies to be killed. This itself

Laws for Demolistionists
What laws should be gone that demolitionist don t need to go through to do their
job and what laws they need to make stricter for demolitionists. For the rest of my
paper is going to be about the laws that demolitionist have to go by to start their
demolition process and the steps they use to set up their site where they are going to
demolish so the laws needs to be more stricter than it is now. Some of the demolition
laws need to be more stricter because of the safety of the residents where their
demolition site is located. Demolition jobs are supposed to be safe. A man died in a
demolition accident in SWOYERSVILLE, Luzerne County Pennsylvania, when a
church facade collapsed onto the excavatorhe was operating. The demolition laws
need to be stricter so that people don t get killed or hurt when on a demolition job;
just like the guy in Swoyersville that died. All of the demolition jobs have laws for
a reason and they should be stricter because there are people breaking the laws that
are given to have a safe work environment. People are dying from falling walls and
falling buildings. The demolition laws need to be stricter. Demolition laws needs to
be stricter so people won t get killed or hurt when on a demolition job. If people
want to demolish a building or house that they own they should not have to go

Paul Revere And The Boston Massacre
The newspaper was made so that the people could know what was happening around
their community. Propaganda was very popular with the colonists even though most
of the content that was printed in the newspaper was not always true. Even though it
was not like by the government the colonists like the newspapers. The newspaper
would show dramatize images to get the colonists to buy their newspaper just as
patriot Paul Revere did for the printing of the Boston Massacre. He showed and
exaggerated image of what had happened at the BostonMassacre. The newspaper
that was published based on the Boston Massacre change the way some people saw
Great Britain. There was a mob that had started to attack the British barracks and
then started to attack Hugh White, who got surrounded by the mob and then came
Captain Thomas Preston to help him with his soldiers. The angry crowd, then
started to throw snowballs and other items at the British soldiers which infuriated
the soldiers. The British soldiers under Captain Thomas Presto started to fire at the
crowd and killed 5 men and wounded others. When the Boston Massacre happened,
it was shown in the newspaper a few days after the event had occurred. The
newspaper told the event a little different to what happened, it changed people s
views, and it affected all the colonists. After the Boston Massacre, many people
started to print newspapers to spread the news quickly of the catastrophic event that
had occurred in Boston. Paul Revere was the
Maus by Art Spiegelman
In the book Maus it shows many structures in the way the animals are portrayed.
The Jews being drawn as mice; mice are known to be small and dependent. As the
Germans being drawn as cats; cats being bigger and more independent tend to eat
mice. Nazis haunt torture and kill the weak Jews just like cats. It is an analogy, cats
and mouse. The mouse is a symbol for subordinate and the cat is supremacy.
Spiegelman s meaning for drawings the character like that has a totally different
approach. His main purpose was to show the different kinds of ethnicities in the
book, through the different types of animals in order to tell them apart. His main
purpose was also to show the humantraits of the animal by drawing them with human
bodies.
In the first book, the characters are made sure to represent the different characters
description of the character, Spiegleman does it by dividing them into their
ethnicity, the Jews shown as mice, the Germans as cats, and the Polish as pigs.
Having done this Spiegleman created a different form to view the diversities of his
characters by simply arranging the people through different types of human types
that were categorized by that time by portraying the readers that the Jews who are
viewed as the mice in this case are shown the weakest and subordinate, this enables
much significance in the choice of characters. In the book you see that the Germans
and Jews were starting to form a game of cat and mouse where the Germans start to
bother the Jews

Hazardous Chemical Project Final Draft Just east of Butte, Montana is a huge lake
filled with toxic chemicals. Samples taken in 2011 had a pH measuring around 2.5,
meaning the water was comparable to gastric acid (PitWatch, 2013). This lake,
known as the Berkeley Pit Lake, was formed by open pit mining in the 1950s.
Originally, the mine was built by the Atlantic Richfield Corporation to meet the
global demands for copper post World War II. Copper prices tanked in 1982, so the
mine was shut down and pumps removing water were deactivated. The company
left behind a pit encompassing an area of approximately one square mile and

Economic Environment
The economic environment has a major impact on business in general and the
management of human resources in particular. Economic conditions affect supply

Globalization
Globalization refers to the tendency of firms to extend their sales or manufacturing to
new markets abroad. For businesses everywhere, the rate of globalization in the past
few years has been nothing short of phenomenal.
The bottom line is that the growing integration of the world economy into a single,
huge marketplace is increasing the intensity of competition in a wide range of
manufacturing and service industries.
Production is becoming globalized, too, as firms around the world put manufacturing
facilities where they will be most advantageous. Also, there are increasing numbers of
multinational corporations firms that conduct a large part of business outside the
country in which they are headquartered and that locate a significant percentage of
their physical facilities and human resources in other countries. Many organizations
are locating new plants in areas where wages and other operating costs are lower.
For example, Australia s Hewlett Packard s computers are assembled in Singapore.

Franny And Zooey Character Analysis
J.D. Salinger s novel, Franny and Zooey follows the story of Franny, a college
aged girl in the midst of an identity crisis, along with her brother, Zooey who is
shown criticizing his family and himself throughout the piece. Both Franny and
Zooey s quasi depression stems from the loss of their suicidal brother who once
taught them about religion and spirituality and is often displayed throughout the
novel through Salinger s creation of characters and complex symbols. The book has
become increasingly popular and relatable as it highlights themes of mental illness
and loss of innocence in a young adult. Salinger s overall message is relevant and
relatable today to the audience as the characters overcome their egotistical peers,
societal expectations and mourning of a loved one. Salinger s development of Franny
s character within the novel reveals her underlying mental illness and current identity
crisis, primarily by comparing the protagonists Lane and Franny. In the first part of
the novel, Salinger foreshadows the character s personalities as he reveals their first
and last names, Franny Glass and Lane Coutell. The last name Glass clearly indicates
Franny s future mental breakdown while previewing the audience of her fragile
character. The last name Coutell, according to name origin databases, suggests
personality characteristics such as high authority and sharp instincts. Salinger himself
displays this within the novel as he notes how Lane dominates Franny in a somewhat

Everything And Rise. The choice is yours. Zig Ziglar. How do we as humans face
the emotion we call fear? Do we let it s terrifying surface consume us and hold us
back from partaking in something we wish to do, or do we let it fuel us, empower
us, into doing something that we never thought we could? Do you hold yourself back
and hide from that fearand hope it goes away just like the monsters under your bed,
or do you take control, and fight? Maya Angeloutalks about locking yourself up in a

is struggling to go through life and he wants to give up because of his fears and
doubts, but his mother is trying to persuade him into sticking with it and continue
living life. Finally, Robert Frost discusses how your fears shouldn t hold you back

The Use Of Tension In Fences By August Wilson
Family is not always the easiest thing to deal with as families always seem to get
into disagreements. This is shown in the play Fences by August Wilson which is full
of tension between the main character, Troy, and his various family members. Troy s
many bad decisions and mistakes cause a lot of hate to be directed at him and a lot of
arguments ensue throughout the play. August Wilsonuses many narrativeelements in
the play to make it more interesting and show the tension more clearly. Overall, in the
play Fences August Wilson uses narrative elements such as father son conflict,
contrasting motifs, and characterization to show characters problems to create
tension between characters.
One narrative element that August Wilson uses in his play Fences to create
tension, is that of conflict which he uses to show the tension that exists between
Troy and his oldest son, Lyons. Lyons was raised by Troy s ex wife but now
frequently stops by Troy s house to borrow money which he seldom repays. One
day, after Lyons has stopped by asking for ten dollars, Troy makes a comment to
his best friend, Bono, saying, What I tell you, Bono? The only time I see this nigger
is when he wants something. (16) This shows a conflict over money that is present
between Troy and Lyons which is caused by and adds to the tension that exists in the
play between these characters and others. August Wilson s addition of conflict with
Troy and Lyons story is able to show the immense tension that Troy

However, in some cultures, the media play a role in preventing teenagers to confront
scenes related to sex. For example, some intimate scenes are censored in Arab TV

I believe that sex is a personal choice that one makes and it plays an important role in
self discovery and maturity. Sexual experimentation is good experience Bahij.
Curiosity and experience push teens into being intimate with their partners, in that
way they believe that they could have a much better understanding when talking
about relationship. Sure they been hearing about all the risks or STDs pregnancy... but
what is it really like? That is what both boys and girls want to discover and
experience. Unfortunately, it is known that few teens have bad intentions since
they are pressed to do something that they are not legally allowed to do. Part of it is
to feel bad by breaking the law; it is a sort of a rebellion move for them.
Teenage sexuality has risen and has become a standard phenomenal in societies.
However, there are still some major problems that derive from this issue.
These days, the task of teaching moral values has become increasingly difficult in
today s materialistic, saturated society. Most parents have the difficult job of
preparing their children for conflict
Garveyism and Rastafarianism Essay
Garveyism and Rastafarianism
I. Introduction
In the twentieth century, two movements have emerged out of Jamaica in protest of
black oppression and slavery, both mental and physical. The first to evolve was
Garveyism, founded by Marcus Garvey, and was born in the aftermath of the First
World War.
Rastafarianism was the second movement to emerge, lead by Leonard Howell during
the depression years of the 1930 s. Garveyism and Rastafarianism are both resistance
movements based on the same ideal: consciousness and essentialism of Africa and its
descendants. The founding brethren of the Rastafari movement were Garveyites
themselves, although not members of the Universal Negro Improvement Asscioation

Garvey s aim was to recontextualize particular aspects of seeming irreconcilable
systems of Marxism/Leninism, monarchism, and even of National Socialism for the
African of Africa American experience (Zips, 224). Garvey did not feel restricted by
established political ideologies, instead he felt free to pick out the best attributes of
every government. Ultimately, Garveyism hoped to develop the African continent
into a modern network of nations, modeling it after the United States and Western
Europe (Lewis, 146).
Garvey established the UNIA in Jamaica in the year 1914, two years later he left
for the United States in order to gain more momentum for his movement and
spread the African unity he had started in Jamaica. Before leaving Jamaica, Garvey
made a prophecy of sorts to his followers: Look into Africa for the crowning of a
black king. He shall be the Redeemer (Barrett, 67). From this prediction stems most
of the discrepancy between Garveyites and Rastafarians, something I will discuss
later in this paper.
The four main themes that the Garvey movement was built upon were 1) Africa for
Africans at home and abroad, 2) unity, 3) self reliance, and 4) retaining their black
pride in the presence of whites (Chevannes, 95). Garvey brought this ideology with
him to the United States where he founded an American branch of the UNIA in 1917
and furthered his initiatives

personal experiences I have my own views that these outlets of entertainment have
improved some aspects of modern day relationships but not all. Social Media has

brings me a sense of joy to see people I know having their own extraordinary
adventures and achievements. It motivates me to do more with my life as I get new

and other life forms, plants occupy the wet and dry land around the lake. Lake
Josephine also serves as a recreational ground for many people; it has a small sandy

Human activities at Lake Josephine include swimming, fishing and boating,
among others. The sound and turbidity caused by boat stresses the fish out. Boat
fuel, paint and other and engine components are toxic to aquatic plants and
animals (McCoy, et al, 2010). There was not a lot of boating on the days the lake
was visited. However, small amounts of some of these chemicals such as antifreeze
could be very toxic even to humans (McCoy, et al, 2010). Animal death could also
result from human activity. The cause of death of the organism shown in figure 11
could not be determined during this project. There are several possible causes of
this animal s death. It is also, however, safe to say it could have been struck by a
boat or caught and released by during fishing. Indiscriminate fishing and overfishing

Wild Card Scenarios
Fresh off what was a fairly predictable Wild Card weekend (at least for me), we are
on to the Divisional Round. Here is where things begin to get interesting. The
Seattle Seahawks will travel to the Georgia Dome and take on the 11 5 Atlanta
Falcons. The Houston Texans will head up to hostile territory and take on the
heavily favored New England Patriots. The Steelers head to Arrowhead to take on
the Chiefs in what is said to be blistering cold temperatures. And what is likely to
be the most intriguing matchup of the weekend, the Green Bay Packers head to
Dallas as a 4 pt. underdog to take on the Cowboys. The Seattle Seahawks will travel
to the Georgia Dome and take on the 11 5 Atlanta Falcons. The Houston Texans will

The Packers underachieved at best. QB Aaron Rodgers was put on the hot seat.
Negative rumors swirled around Rodgers, both personally and professionally
which ultimately were excuses for his poor play. Jordy Nelson had just returned
from an ACL injury and it took time for him to get his legs back. Injuries continued
to plague the team, hitting the running core the hardest. The Packers were all but
written off, then in the second half, Rodgers returned to old form. Devonte Adams
stepped up in a big way, taking the lead on offense, finishing the season with 997
yds and 12 TD s. The Cowboys had a much different season. Led by rookie Dak
Prescott, the Cowboys finished their season with a record of 13 3, not without
setting a few records. Dak Prescott has the best completion percentage (67.8), TD
INT ratio (23 4), and passer rating (104.9) by any rookie quarterback in NFL
history. Rookie phenom Ezekiel Elliot led the NFL with 1,631 rushing yards.
Together, this duo has brought the Cowboys back to relevancy all while showcasing
their maturity and readiness. This matchup has all the makings to become the most
exciting game of the season. According to MSN, Nelson, who injured his ribs in the
Wild Card matchup against the Giants is contemplating wearing a Tevlar vest this
weekend. Elliot is reassuring Cowboy fans he is ok to play after a minor car accident

Interview With Transactional Leadership
A Transformational Leader
As a leader, I have constantly maintained the belief that a leader develops a team
based upon the knowledge of the people and situations in which one works. Through
the studies into leadership theories, the situational leadership classified my personal
leadership style. Knowing that my approach to leadership mimics many of those that
I have worked within the ministry, I sought to interview a dear friend that maintains
a supervisory role in the secular sector. In addition, they lead a small team of co
volunteers within the local church. Furthermore, the objective was to glean insight to
the leadership they possessed within the secular world compared to the ministry
leadership I worked closely with for several years. ... Show more content on

The transformational approach is the one style I seek to incorporate into my
future role as a teacher. One aspect stood out and that was what motivated him to
strive to motivate others, that is he was inspired by leaders himself. Personally, I
too am motivated by the examples of great leaders in my life. Through the mentors
and leaders in my life, I have the desire to lead and motivate others. As my friend
so graciously stated, God entrusts us all with a role and responsibility. Even
though it is different for us all, one constant remains, if we can t lead ourselves,
then we can t lead others. Overall, I am motivated by my friend to lead people to
see them be the person God has called, designed, and gifted them to be. I am inspired
to work with students to guide them to their full potential. Providing them the
opportunity to see what they do not always see in themselves and molding in them

A Note On The New Baltic Bank
Considering that this is the first time the New Baltic Bank enters to a syndicated
loan, I will point out the important key clauses that you should be looking for in a
loan agreement. The loan agreement is the document set out by the Lender, which is
in this case, is the bank to provide the terms and conditions of the loanthat will be
given to the borrower. The structure of the agreement must have a few components
such as representations, warranties, covenants and duties.
The Loan Market Association along with major city law firms and the Association of
corporate treasures have introduced recommended forms of primary loan
documentations . This document as recommended by the LMA has the main clauses
that should be incorporated in the loan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, clauses related to the agent bank discretionary powers, majority and
minority lenders, Pro rata clauses and consents.
As for material adverse changes clauses they enables one of the parties; which is the
lender, with a degree of protection and the ability to refuse to complete obligation if
the borrower suffers change in circumstances that would affect his ability to continue
his obligations with the lender. For Material Adverse changes can function as an
event of default or potential event of default. The Material Adverse changes can
either stops the drawing down of the loan or a basis for ending the lenders
obligations, and it can also accelerate the loan and the lender could demand the
borrower for an early payment.
Representations and warranties focus on the borrower s ability legally to enter into
a financial agreement. In case of breach in the representations and warranties, the
lender will consider it an event of default and the lender could demand repayment of
the loan. If they were widely drafted, they could trigger material adverse effects that
is why the borrower seeks to restrict them.
Default or potential default clauses deals with the case of the borrower not being
able to continue his obligations towards the lender or potentially not being able to
continue his obligation. Under this clause it will be determined if the lender could stop
Growing Up Research Paper
Growing up in Theresa was an experience that will live with me until the day I die.
Theresa is a town with a population of roughly 2,000 people and it is very rural.
Theresa is a blue collar community where everyone works hard and everyone plays
hard. I saw this 24/7 at home. It was a small town. Everyone knew what was going
on with everything in the town. The town of Theresa was basically one giant family. I
went to school their from Kindergarten through 4th grade. The school was three
blocks from my house and I would walk to school and back every single day. I
usually had people who would walk with me. Some of those people I am still friends
with to this very day. This was were I got my very first taste of school and first taste
of friendship. One friend that I have made in Theresa is standing up in my wedding
in July. Growing up their was a blessing for so many reasons. Probably for reasons I
may realize later in life.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Downtown there is the local shell gas station. It is a fairly dated gas station, but
they make due with what they have. There is a sandwich shop inside, along with
multiple varieties of coffee. I remember my dad going there every day before work
to get his cup of coffee. There were three parks in town and one of them was one
block away from my house. I once fell off the slide at this park and was sent to the
emergency room. I stayed away from that park for a while after that. The park was
a hot spot for kids of all ages. This park was right next to the public school that I
attended until 4th grade. My house was also right off a river that leads right into
the Mississippi. The river is a great place to fish and kayak. I caught many fish in
the river, usually alongside my dad and my sister. The town dump was sometimes a
fun place to go. People would bring things that they no longer used or needed there.
People would go and search through the stuff and bring home was they
Algonquin Identity
The Algonquins were from the Atlantic Coast, they then migrated together with
another group called the Anicinapek. Both groups arrived at their first stop which
was near Montreal. While the other Anicinapek peoples continued their journey up
the St. Lawrence River, the Algonquins settled along the Ottawa River which was
called Kitcisìpi (Canadian History Workshop). However, The Algonquin identity
was not fully recognized until after the dividing of the Anicinapek at their third stop.
Later on, they have made contact with the Europeans. They have met with The
French first, whom later became their trading partners (Canadian History Workshop).
Having that connection between The Algonquins and The French, led The British to

Men s duties were hunting and warfare. Women s duties included planting,
gathering, taking care of the children, and making clothes. Men weren t the only
ones that hunted, women also had to hunt small animals like fish. Along with that,
they had to dry the meat and berries for winter. Women also had to build mats,
wigwam covers, canoe parts and etc. They were also in charge of cleaning homes
and tools. While men were out there hunting, they would let the women skin the
animals and prepare it to eat (Nethra Yogen). Men on the other hand, they also took
part in trading and creating tools. They would go hunting for anything, big game and

whoever needs it. They were taught discipline and skills by their mothers,
grandmothers, and aunts. Men and women also shared some roles that they had to

Persuasive Essay On Burning The Flag
Lately, if you turn on the news, the media headlines are covered with the news of
protests. These protests include marches, kneeling, and in some cases, even rioting
and fighting. However, one from of protesting stands out the most: burning of the
United States flag. Recently, protestors have burned the flag to protest the president
and the police. Burning the flag is not something new to this country, however. There
are many recorded instances of the American flag being burned as a form of speech;
especially during the Vietnam War period. I, on the other hand, strongly believe that
burning the American flag is wrong. It much more than just a piece of cloth, it is a
scared symbol of our country. In order to stop the mutilation of the symbols of our
country, I am proposing an amendment to the Constitution. The amendment that I am
proposing will empower Congress to utilize their powers to implement restrictions on
mistreatment of iconic American symbols. The Constitution, in its current state, does
not protect the symbols of the United States. In fact, the First Amendment protects the
destruction and mistreatment of these symbols. If the proposed amendment is
approved by Congress and ratified, the iconic symbols of America will be protected
from mistreatment. The definition of mistreatment will be left up to the courts to
decide. The reason I propose this amendment is because the symbols of our nation are
much more than just materialistic objects. They are this country s
Alexander Hamilton s Influence On The Founding As
History
Did Alexander Hamilton play as important a role in our founding as history portrays?
This short paper on Alexander Hamilton will outline his importance in the journey of
the United States of America to become a free country and will also show the various
ways he made this country successful by pioneering the formation of the American
government.
Alexander Hamilton was born in Charlestown, the capital of Nevis in the British
West Indies. There are disputes regarding his actual birth date. In the probate court
papers from St. Croix, when his mother died, Hamilton was only 13 years old. This
indicates 1755 as the year of his birth. However, throughout his life, Hamilton
identified 1757 as his birth year. His early education consisted of ... Show more

Alexander Hamilton resigned from the Congress in July 1783. Following this, he
began a law practice in New York City. In 1784, he founded the Bank of New York
(the oldest ongoing banking organization in the United States till date).
He drafted a resolution for a Constitutional convention in 1786 while attending the
Annapolis Convention. The resolution was to have a more powerful, financially
independent federal government.
In 1787, Hamilton was the first New York delegate chosen to the Constitutional
Convention. He also served as assemblyman in the New York State Legislature, but
his influence was quite limited. The Convention convened in the State House,
which is now known as Independence Hall, in Philadelphia. On May 14th there
were only delegations from two states, so the revision of the Articles of
Confederation was adjourned from a day to day debate. On May 25th a quorum of
seven states was obtained, debate continued and it was clear that by mid June that the
delegates present decided not to just amend the current Articles, they would draft an
entirely new frame of government. During the late 1780 s there were 85 letters
written to newspapers to try and sway at least 9 of the 13 states to ratify the new
document they were writing during the Convention in 1787. The letters were written

Instead of saving humanity, every person should save himself (Tolstoy, 1997, p.

hundreds of demands, desires and decisions. While favorable outcomes can motivate
one s direction in life, dilemmas cause, strain or stress and may prevent one from

lead one s physical existence. In this way, positive or negative thinking plays an
important part of the hearts health and healing process.

The human heart has four chambers partitioned by an interventricular septum, two on
either sides called right and left. Each side has an atrium that receives blood and a
ventricle that pumps the blood. It has two types of circulations, also called systems:
the pulmonary heart and the systemic heart. The pulmonary heart, the right side of
the heart, pumps blood out to the lungs and the systemic heart, the much thicker left
side of the heart, pumps out to all the systems in the body. They are: circulatory heart,
digestive, endocrine, immune, lymphatic, muscular, nervous, reproductive,
respiratory, skeletal, and the urinary system.
Deoxygenated blood from veins enter through the superior and inferior vena cavae
into the right atrium, then through the tricuspid valve also called cusp of right
atrioventricular, to the right ventricle, up to the pulmonary trunk through the
pulmonary semilunar valve (also called pulmonic valve or pulmonary valve), then out
to the lungs via right and left pulmonary arteries where blood picks up oxygen. Then,
oxygenated blood enters through the pulmonary veins, into the left atrium, down
through the bicuspid valve also called mitral valve or cusp of left atrioventricular
valve, into the left ventricle, and up the aorta, then out to the organs, supplying
oxygenated blood to the various systems of our body. Deoxygenated blood enters into
the right atrium and right ventricle from our systems in the body, go
A Brief Look at Operational Amplifiers
Operational amplifiers (Op Amp) have been in use for quite a long a long time
now in the field of electronics and electrical engineering. A basic Op Amp has got
three connections consisting of 1 output and 2 inputs. For definition purposes the
two input terminals are called inverting and non inverting inputs (Huijsing, 2011).
Huijsing (2011) adds that it has been found and proven that when the voltage at
both points of the inputs is the same, there will be no output on the other side. The
image below shows an ideal Op Amp with the terminals shown. FIGURE 1 For an
ideal Op Amp the input impedance is infinite for the load and 0 for the source
output so this means it can be used as a buffer and an ideal source of voltage and
current (Storr, 2014).Carter and Mancini (2009) noted in their book that feedback
is always necessary in this amplifier so as to reduce the gain because they have an
infinite gain (around a million) when the loop is open but this gain is dependent on
the amount of input voltage, so if we apply 0.000001V input the output will be 1V.
Application of the Op Amp in circuits is diverse but in this report two circuits will be
covered namely the integrator and differential circuit. INTEGRATOR CIRCUITS
FROM OP AMP A basic mathematical definition of integration is the main tool used
to define this type of amp circuit. In other terms the input signal is integrated so that
the outcome is the output signal. This circuit is
Jim Jones
Don t drink the kool aid is a phrase that was coined after the mass suicide in
Jonestown, Guyana on November 18, 1978. James (Jim) Jones was a religious
leader of the People s Temple cult and is responsible for more the deaths of 909
men, women, and children through a mass suicide using cyanide laced grape punch.
Aided by his high IQ and his manipulative ways, Jones was able to carry out his
communist goals. Jones managed to wipe out 909 people overnight which lands him
a well earned spot in history.
James (Jim) Warren Jones was born to James Thurman Jones and Lynetta Putnam
Jones on May 13, 1931 in Crete, Indiana. During Jim s childhood, he was known to
be an avid reader who studied the works of Mahatma Gandhi, Karl Marx, Mao
Zedong, Joseph Stalin, and Adolf Hitler, taking note of what caused their successes
and downfalls. Jim s obsession with religion was fed by his struggle to make friends
and his fascination with death. Following the separation of Jones parents, he moved
to Richmond, Indiana. While living with his mother, Jones graduated with honors

Jones instructed the members to move to Redwood Valley, California for safety. At
this point, Jones rejected the bible and began to preach that there was no heaven. In
the late 1960s, Jones began revealing that the religion was secretly founded on
communism ideals. In the early 1970s, Jones stated to the members of the Peoples
Temple that there was no heaven and that they would have to build their own heaven
on Earth.
Due to the immense growth in the membership in the Peoples Temples once it was
moved to California, branches were opened in cities such as San Francisco, San
Fernando, and Los Angeles, causing the Temple s headquarters to be moved to San
Francisco. The Peoples Temple became involved in racial movements in the area,

Gender Inequality And The Aristotelian Society
Gender Inequality in an Aristotelian Polity Aristotle s philosophies were deeply
influenced by his upbringing and interest in biology. He believed that the reason of a
thing lies in its function. Everything that exists has a purpose, and that purpose is the
reason that thing is the way it is. For example, all the substances that make up a seed
are there because the way those particular substances interact with each other causes
that seed to grow. When the seed grows, it reaches its full potential as a plant.
Humans are the same. Humanbeings have a potential to live up to, which is finding
true happiness by living an honorable life. One lives an honorable life by
complying with societal standards, which are built through community based on
three levels of organization. The first of these is the household, which is designed
to manage the necessities of individual existence, such as procreation, sleep,
nourishment, and shelter (pg. 35). The second is the village, which in simple
terms is the market place of society, where people buy and sell goods and services.
The last of the levels is the polis, the political community in charge of making
collective decisions in the public s best interest. Each of these levels performs an
essential, inescapable function in any society (pg. 35) Species survival is crucial to
any society, and is covered under the household level of government. But because
species survival is so important, those who are capable of bearing children will be
How Learning Can Be Very Challenging For Some
Learning can be very challenging for some, everyone has a different way of
learning. I would explain learning as something you want to do, not something
you have to do. It s much easier to learn when it s a choice instead of a chore. My
views on learning have changed dramatically from when I have first started the
online college. Before I started online college, I was afraid to go back to school
because, I didn t do well in high school. I thoughtI was just not smart enough to every
continue my education. With EXP 105, I have found what my strength and
weaknesses are when it comes to my learningabilities. I also now feel more
confident that I can do this, and it s just going to take time to develop my mind to
be in a growth mind set. Sequence (31) is one of my Use First Pattern. I use
Sequence in everyday life. When it comes to my home, I like a well organized
structured home. Everything in my home has a place to which it belongs. I have
tasks in my home that must be done from beginning to end or it doesn t feel
completed to me. When I start my week out I have a list of things that needtaken care
of throughout the week and it s broken down Monday Sunday. Precision (29) is
another Use First that I have. I Use Precision when I m trying to get to know things
or people. I ask a lot of questions in order to find all the information that I can in
order to understand who, what, when, where, and why. I m a challenger when it
comes to information. If I don t know the answer
Signs Movie Review
Can you see the signs ? The movie Sign is based on a small family. Graham a
loving father, Merrill a carrying brother, Morgan a opened minded boy, and Bo the
quirky little sister who lived on a small farm together. The film Signs is full of
suspense and it keeps the overall audience on their feet wondering what was gonna
happen next but also playing with audience mind. Signs the movie was very
interesting, the way the director/producer planned out the movie was ingenious. The
heroic father cares and loves for his kids and he ll do anything to protect them from

  • 2. The Trial Process For A Criminal Case Introduction There are many aspects of the pre trial process for a criminal case. First step of the process begins with the persons arrest. A suspect is then booked into the system and may be able to post bail. Then comes the arraignment and they maybe a possible plea bargain and then a preliminary hearing if no plea bargain is reached. Two Types of Crimes In Pretrial criminal cases there are two types of crimes, misdemeanors and felonies. There are two events that can occur. One is a criminal complaint and the other is a warrantless arrest. A warrantless arrest can happen if someone commits a crime right in the presence of an officer. The officer does not have time to go get an arrest warrant and go find the suspect. So in this case ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some jurisdictions don t require an initial appearance by the suspect. The suspect should be brought before a judge within a reasonable amount of time, ideally less than 6 hours. The initial appearance advises the suspect of the reason for detainment, their right to have appointed counsel, their protection against self incrimination. Bail can also be set at this point. The initial appearance is usually a brief hearing. Probable Cause Hearing The 4th Amendment requires that a probable cause hearing be held if an arrest is made without a warrant. The purpose of the probable cause hearing is to determine if there is probable cause to hold a person in custody. To prevent prolonged confinement the probable cause hearing is usually held quickly to determine the validity of the arrest charges. A neutral party needs to determine the validity so that the suspect is not detained unnecessarily as detainment affects their income and family. Bail If someone has been arrested for a minor offense and does not pose a flight risk they may be eligible for pre trial release. If there is a chance the suspect might not show up for court then they are likely to remain jailed until their court date. To insure that a suspect will show up for their court date they are required to post bail. This is a payment made to the court on behalf of the suspect. The Eighth Amendment states that
  • 3. Argumentative Essay On Drugs Truth Serums have been widely used as a so called zombie drug in many articles. In the 1920s, Robert House, a doctor from Texas, identified the drug as a means to extract information. In the next epoch, barbiturates including sodium amytal and sodium pentothal were introduced. Many feel that in the light of the sudden growth of crime in the world, these drugs should be used as an identification element in criminal investigation just like how the former CIA officials and Indian Judicial officials utilized it. However, Advocates strongly oppose the idea to enforce such method on the public. Both sides believe they are in the right and the other is wrong, but the point still remains that this so called truthserum is a drug that should not be used in any situation. The way truth serums act is like any psychoactive drugs used to obtain information from those unable and unwilling to do so; it causes people to become uninhibited and talkative. In 1922, it occurred to Robert House, a Dallas, Texas, obstetrician, that a similar technique might be employed in the interrogation of suspected criminals, and he arranged to interview under scopolamine two prisoners in the Dallas county jail whose guilt seemed clearly confirmed. Under the drug, both men denied the charges on which they were held; and both, upon trial, were found not guilty. Enthusiastic at this success, House concluded that a patient under the influence of scopolamine cannot create a lie ... and there is no power to
  • 4. The Cost Of Attending College Analysis The Cost of Attending College I m not going to college my friend told me over the phone one day during a conversation we were having. I was somewhat surprised, but his decision did not catch me completely off guard. We had discussed the topic before and he mentioned his consideration to not attend college after he graduated from high school. He believed that even though he would probably enjoy going to college and learning new information, college was not the best option for him. He is smart; however, he was already working various jobs and projects while in high school, sometimes missing school to complete his responsibilities. He was making much more money during high school than most students his age. He applied and was accepted at various ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many factors that play into someone s choice of attending college: interests, goals, prior education level, intelligence, financial situation, as well as many others. The higher the cost of attending college and obtaining a degree goes, the more pertinent this question becomes to society. The type of job a person is planning on obtaining after he completes his college education greatly impacts the value of his degree. Acquiring a well paying job after leaving college is the only way for a college graduate to effectively pay off his student loans. Before someone can earn a degree and enter into the workforce, they must do well and complete all of their years in college. If a student goes through college for one year or two and then drops out and enters the workforce, he has wasted his time and

  • 7. Battle Of Yorktown Essay On October 18, 1781 Cornwallis and his army surrendered. The Continental Army was looking for hope, as they were entering the Battle of Yorktown. They were weak and very poor. In 1778 France became an alliance with the Americans, and both countries were hoping for a short battle. Sadly, that was not the case. The French and the Americans realized they were desperately in need of a new strategy. They needed Generals to work together and figure out a way to merge the two forces. General George Washingtonand General Rochambeau worked together to merge the forces. The French brought over supplies to help the Continental Army. On thing they brought over were siege guns. Cornwallis brought his army to Yorktown to setup a base, but what he didn t know, was that General Lafayette and some of the American troops were following him from a cautious distance. What Cornwallis didn t know was that his base was against his advantage. He trapped his army on a Peninsula, next to Chesapeake Bay. Unfortunately, the Americans didn t have a navy but the French did. In the battle of Chesapeake Bay, which was going on during the Battle of Yorktown, the French navy helped the Americans trap the British on the cost of Virginia. Boats were one of the most important weapons in the battle of Yorktown. However if the French Navy didn t come to help, Cornwallis would ve gotten reinforcements and supplies, and the war would have been in favor of the British. The outcome of the Battle of Chesapeake Bay was essential to the success of the Continental Army at the Battle of Yorktown. In addition to trapping the British, the Franco American army bombarded the British troops. At the Battle of Yorktown, the British shot first but once the Americans started shooting they didn t stop. To prevent the British from regaining their strength, Washington instructed his army to fire through the night. This tactic helped the Americans a lot, if they stopped firing the British could ve regained their strength and might have had a chance of success in the Battle of

These categories include portraiture, genre, landscape, and history paintings. In spite of such diversity towards subject matter, the artworks all have certain characteristics in common with each other. Three of the shared, underlying principles are an Italian influence, sense of attributing traits to the figures to increase relatability, and emphasis on the humble. A tradition of journeying to Rome, Italy for training or to simply improve upon one s artistic skills was carried out by many Dutch history and genrewith landscape painters. As a result, the use of the Italians as a source of inspiration and emulation can be identified in their works and presents one of the underlying principles that connects the different thematic categories together. Hendrick ter Brugghen was a history painter who belonged to the Utrecht Caravaggists. Just as the name of the group implies, these artists were from Utrecht and heavily influenced by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. Ter Brugghen s Calling of Saint Matthew of 1621 provides an exemplary example of this. It is not only similar to Caravaggio s own Calling of Saint Matthew of 1599 to 1600 with the subject... History, genre with landscape, and portraiture paintings all referenced back to older Italian artworks, while at the same time, genre and other portrait pieces attempt to achieve relatability. Evaluation Of A Team Training Program If I were the coach of a softball team and had to formulate a pre season, in season, and post season work out program I would start by making a list for each to stay on track. For pre season, things I would bullet point would be; running, weight training, skill specific sessions and learning strategies. Next would be for in season practices and this is going to be my maintenance phase. Last is the post season part that is focusing on getting ready for the next year so I would bullet point these topics; weight training, running, skill specific practices, and leave room for participation in other sports as well. A pre season training program should start 8 12 weeks prior to the first competition date (Powers 2012). This part of the season is to increase energy systems used in this particular sport to their maximum potential. With my softball team in a pre season session, I would start with weight training and running to increase each individual player s strength and endurance. Strength and endurance training should be done on alternating days to optimize strength gains but can be done together depending on what the coach is trying to accomplish. According to Powers, if these two types of training are done together, there may be a lower gain in strength than with only strength training itself. Things that I would like to do for endurance with softball players would be home to outfield sprints with walk back recoveries about 8 to 10 times with 3 sets of high knee drills for 20
  • 10. The Similarities Of Charlemagne And The Medieval Age During the time period of 400 A.D to 1500, otherwise known as the Medieval Age, there lived a variety of important people to history, ranging from political characters to simple yet dangerous travelers. Of all these important people, the political character Charlemagne and the cultural icon Geoffrey Chaucer stand out as having many similarities and a few differences that are worth describing in detail to really see how alike people in the Medieval Age really were. One similarity between Charlemagne and Geoffrey Chaucer is that they were both the Father of something. This title meant that the person of interest played a big part in a change that became the new norm for the rest of history. Charlemagne was known as the Father of Europe and Geoffrey was known as the Father of English Literature . Charlemagne was the former king of the Franks, king of the Lombards, and was the first Roman emperor for the Holy Roman Empire. One of his reigns were the Franks, which were a Germanic tribe in Belgium, France, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, and western Germany. One of his main goals were to unite all Germanic tribes under one kingdom and convert them to Christianity. It was because of Charlemagne that Christianity remained relevant in the west because of all his efforts. Another one of his main goals was the Carolingian Renaissance, which he wanted to be a cultural and intellectual revival of Europe. This meant that he wanted Europe to become fuller of culture and intellectual

Davis selects its students from a lottery from families that live in the Newport Mesa Unified School District. The school has a daily school wide flag salute to celebrate birthdays, make announcements about events, and allow families to meet. A Glimpse Inside Alcoholics Anonymous A Glimpse Inside Alcoholics Anonymous Animated in the spirit of Jesus Christ, we value all individuals unique talents, respect their dignity, and strive to foster their commitment to excellence in our work. Our community s strength depends on the unity and diversity of our people, on the free exchange of ideas, and on learning, living, and working harmoniously (Saint Leo University Core Values, Respect). Introduction. I decided I wanted to visit an Alcoholics Anonymousgroup meeting in my local area. It would be a new experience for me because I have never been to that type of meeting before in my life. I had only heard of A.A. and the support groups they offer throughout the world. They offer meetings in every state of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and in some International countries (United States Alcoholics Anonymous). The meeting I attended consisted of about forty three people, both men and women. The only type of meeting I had ever been to in my life was either church related or business related. I chose to go to this type of meeting for three reasons; I wanted to get out of my comfort zone, I have never been around anyone with substance abuse, and I wanted to see the other side of the spectrum to gain some insights from a different perspective. I am in Human Services for the purpose of helping others in need. I can better help people if I become knowledgeable in the areas where they need help the most. I grew up in church my whole life and was raised in a

In a class where most students either fall into the categories of being high achieving or low scoring, Kaylee is one of few students in the middle. Next year, students have the choice of going on the college track in language arts and I would like Kaylee to feel comfortable in her abilities to choose the college track. The first assignment to accomplish these goals is the Lyric Analysis Assignment. This assignment is aligned with all four instructional goals. Students were asked to analyze a song of their choice as if it were a poem. I used several reading strategies for differentiation in my class while teaching analysis of poem or song. I allowed them choice of song in their assignment as a strategy to engage the students in the reading instruction. This is a tiered assignment with two parts. The strategy of scaffolding the assignment into two manageable parts in which the second part builds on the first allows the students to build on their thoughts in an organized way. This is a good strategy for Kaylee in particular so she does not get overwhelmed by the assignment as a whole. The students were to create a key using Google Comments in Google Docs that included a minimum of four literary devices that they found in their song. I use the Google Classroom and Google Apps for most assignments now. Technology allows me to differentiate instruction to meet instructional goals because I can provide immediate written feedback. • 15. Symbolism In Kent Nerburn s Neither Wolf And Dog The book Neither Wolf nor Dog, written by Kent Nerburn is an attempt at bringing American Indians and non Indians together. The point the author makes in the introduction, is that even though we are all different, we share a common place of residence, and that is mother earth. There are vast amounts of history regarding America and the land, but everyone s past is intertwined, and we cannot deny this. This book is to connect the lives of very different people, instead of continuing the division we see in the country today. There are many important issues pointed out throughout the entirety of the book. The terms white supremacy, racism, and symbolic violence, are all pointed out as you read the story. Using these ideas and terms, a larger issue can be brought up, and that is that Native Americans were put into the shadows, and the country slowly became what it is now, filled with racism and white power. Other terms that arise throughout the reading are discrimination, skin color privilege, and the 1887 Dawes Act. Together, the use of these terms shows the reader the adversity that Native Americans face and the importance of preserving cultures. Neither Wolf nor Dog is a powerful book that shows the unknown life of American Indians, and rids the myths and stereotypes, while pointing out important issues in America today. White supremacy is not specifically defined in Neither Wolf nor Dog, but there are examples of the term throughout the book. The textbook RaceRacisms

The evolution of technology, like the evolution of man, continues to progress further, attaining new advancements and becoming more efficient for human use. We live in a connected age, but people now feel lonelier than ever. Relationships that turn intimate through face to face encounters are now supplanted with relationships that depend on the use of technology to just interact. Primarily, those who are lonely and desire a relationship or even a friendship with others turn to technology to fill in the hole in their life. However, by ceasing human connection, people are isolating themselves from society and segregating themselves from the real world in place for a world controlled by unconscious automatons. Both Franny and Zooey s quasi depression stems from the loss of their suicidal brother who once taught them about religion and spirituality and is often displayed throughout the novel through Salinger s creation of characters and complex symbols. The book has become increasingly popular and relatable as it highlights themes of mental illness and loss of innocence in a young adult. Salinger s overall message is relevant and relatable today to the audience as the characters overcome their egotistical peers, societal expectations and mourning of a loved one. Salinger s development of Franny s character within the novel reveals her underlying mental illness and current identity crisis, primarily by comparing the protagonists Lane and Franny. In the first part of the novel, Salinger foreshadows the character s personalities as he reveals their first and last names, Franny Glass and Lane Coutell. The last name Glass clearly indicates Franny s future mental breakdown while previewing the audience of her fragile character. The last name Coutell, according to name origin databases, suggests personality characteristics such as high authority and sharp instincts. Salinger himself displays this within the novel as he notes how Lane dominates Franny in a somewhat

How do we as humans face the emotion we call fear? Do we let it s terrifying surface consume us and hold us back from partaking in something we wish to do, or do we let it fuel us, empower us, into doing something that we never thought we could? Do you hold yourself back and hide from that fearand hope it goes away just like the monsters under your bed, or do you take control, and fight? Maya Angeloutalks about locking yourself up in a cage full of your fears and doubts and trying to escape and become free of your struggles. In Langston Hughespoem, Mother to Son, Hughes talks about how a son is struggling to go through life and he wants to give up because of his fears and doubts, but his mother is trying to persuade him into sticking with it and continue living life. Finally, Robert Frost discusses how your fears shouldn t hold you back from continuing life and choosing a path to go on. Everyone has to face their fears at some point, it just depends on the person if they choose to fight it or not. Whether you re grabbing the bull by the horns, or you re closing the gate. • 38. The Use Of Tension In Fences By August Wilson Family is not always the easiest thing to deal with as families always seem to get into disagreements. This is shown in the play Fences by August Wilson which is full of tension between the main character, Troy, and his various family members. Troy s many bad decisions and mistakes cause a lot of hate to be directed at him and a lot of arguments ensue throughout the play. August Wilsonuses many narrativeelements in the play to make it more interesting and show the tension more clearly. Overall, in the play Fences August Wilson uses narrative elements such as father son conflict, contrasting motifs, and characterization to show characters problems to create tension between characters. One narrative element that August Wilson uses in his play Fences to create tension, is that of conflict which he uses to show the tension that exists between Troy and his oldest son, Lyons. Lyons was raised by Troy s ex wife but now frequently stops by Troy s house to borrow money which he seldom repays. One day, after Lyons has stopped by asking for ten dollars, Troy makes a comment to his best friend, Bono, saying, What I tell you, Bono? The only time I see this nigger is when he wants something. (16) This shows a conflict over money that is present between Troy and Lyons which is caused by and adds to the tension that exists in the play between these characters and others. August Wilson s addition of conflict with Troy and Lyons story is able to show the immense tension that Troy

Introduction In the twentieth century, two movements have emerged out of Jamaica in protest of black oppression and slavery, both mental and physical. The first to evolve was Garveyism, founded by Marcus Garvey, and was born in the aftermath of the First World War. Rastafarianism was the second movement to emerge, lead by Leonard Howell during the depression years of the 1930 s. Garveyism and Rastafarianism are both resistance movements based on the same ideal: consciousness and essentialism of Africa and its descendants. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Garvey s aim was to recontextualize particular aspects of seeming irreconcilable systems of Marxism/Leninism, monarchism, and even of National Socialism for the African of Africa American experience (Zips, 224). Garvey did not feel restricted by established political ideologies, instead he felt free to pick out the best attributes of every government. Ultimately, Garveyism hoped to develop the African continent into a modern network of nations, modeling it after the United States and Western Europe (Lewis, 146). Garvey established the UNIA in Jamaica in the year 1914, two years later he left for the United States in order to gain more momentum for his movement and spread the African unity he had started in Jamaica. Before leaving Jamaica, Garvey made a prophecy of sorts to his followers: Look into Africa for the crowning of a black king. He shall be the Redeemer (Barrett, 67). From this prediction stems most of the discrepancy between Garveyites and Rastafarians, something I will discuss later in this paper. The four main themes that the Garvey movement was built upon were 1) Africa for Africans at home and abroad, 2) unity, 3) self reliance, and 4) retaining their black pride in the presence of whites (Chevannes, 95). Garvey brought this ideology with him to the United States where he founded an American branch of the UNIA in 1917 and furthered his initiatives

A basic Op Amp has got three connections consisting of 1 output and 2 inputs. For definition purposes the two input terminals are called inverting and non inverting inputs (Huijsing, 2011). Huijsing (2011) adds that it has been found and proven that when the voltage at both points of the inputs is the same, there will be no output on the other side. The image below shows an ideal Op Amp with the terminals shown. FIGURE 1 For an ideal Op Amp the input impedance is infinite for the load and 0 for the source output so this means it can be used as a buffer and an ideal source of voltage and current (Storr, 2014).Carter and Mancini (2009) noted in their book that feedback is always necessary in this amplifier so as to reduce the gain because they have an infinite gain (around a million) when the loop is open but this gain is dependent on the amount of input voltage, so if we apply 0.000001V input the output will be 1V. Application of the Op Amp in circuits is diverse but in this report two circuits will be covered namely the integrator and differential circuit. I would explain learning as something you want to do, not something you have to do. It s much easier to learn when it s a choice instead of a chore. My views on learning have changed dramatically from when I have first started the online college. Before I started online college, I was afraid to go back to school because, I didn t do well in high school. I thoughtI was just not smart enough to every continue my education. With EXP 105, I have found what my strength and weaknesses are when it comes to my learningabilities. I also now feel more confident that I can do this, and it s just going to take time to develop my mind to be in a growth mind set. Sequence (31) is one of my Use First Pattern. I use Sequence in everyday life. When it comes to my home, I like a well organized structured home. Everything in my home has a place to which it belongs. I have tasks in my home that must be done from beginning to end or it doesn t feel completed to me. When I start my week out I have a list of things that needtaken care of throughout the week and it s broken down Monday Sunday. Precision (29) is another Use First that I have. I Use Precision when I m trying to get to know things or people. I ask a lot of questions in order to find all the information that I can in order to understand who, what, when, where, and why. I m a challenger when it comes to information. If I don t know the answer

Signs the movie was very interesting, the way the director/producer planned out the movie was ingenious. The heroic father cares and loves for his kids and he ll do anything to protect them from harm s way. The movie Signs is based on faith and religion and even though you might not see them doesn t mean they aren t there. The father graham finds mysterious signs in his
