Disadvantages Of Union City
Union City, Pennsylvania is where I have lived my entire life. It is a great, small, friendly town,
depending on who you ask. Over the span of my lifetime, I have heard comments that vary about
the residents overall satisfaction with Union City. To me, it is about neutral because the several
advantages and disadvantages are nearly equal in my eyes. However, depending on your home life,
social status, and personal liking, Union Citymay or may not be the town for you. Over the years, I
become more thankful for my hometown because of the low crime rate unlike many other cities.
Union City, previously known as Miles Mills ( History of Union City, PA ), was discovered by
David Watts and William Mills in the year 1785 ( History... ). At one time, Union City, was
considered The Chair Center of the World due to all the sawmills and chair factories within the
city ( History... ). But sadly, now the town is only referred to as Incest City or Union Shitty, which
is offensive to the citizens of the town. The sawmills and chair factories in the earlier centuries,
currently are not functioning or have burned down in recent years, including the Ethan Allen
building which burned down during my lifetime in 2010. The history of Union City may not be as
exciting compared to larger cities, but it means so much to the residents or ancestors of people
from here. The town of Union City is a very small, friendly, tight knit community. As a citizen, me
nor my family have never had any

with the D.O.C. a well known white supremacist group in Venice Beach. Danny Vinyard is a high

Throughout the movie, the audience witnesses the murder of two African American men by the
hands of Derek; while Danny watches in fear and in disbelief. After the murders, Derek is

groups and begins following in the same dogma; which is that whites should hate all that are not
part of the superior race. Due to his growing belief, Danny is sent to the principle s office for
writing a paper on Adolph Hitler s book, Mein Kampf ; which ultimately leads to principal Sweeney

Adam Liszt As A Principal Figure In The Romantic Movement
Liszt was not only a principal figure in the Romantic Movement but also a composer of
enormous originality and arguably the greatest piano virtuoso of his time. A controversial
character, he was attacked for his innovations, talent and flair by his jealous rivals. As a
composer, he radically extended the technique of piano writing, extended the harmonic
language, and later developed chromatic harmony which led eventual breakdown of tonality
revolutionizing the music of the era. As a pianist Liszt was the first to give complete solo
recitals, and he did a great deal to encourage the performance of music by Bach, Beethoven,
Schubert, Berlioz, Wagner, and Robert Schumann by transcribing their works for piano and
playing them in his concerts at a time when they were insufficiently appreciated. He also helped
younger composers, and he taught a number of pupils who themselves became famous
virtuosos. When Franz was five years old; he was already attracted to the piano and was soon
given lessons by his father, Adam Liszt. He began to show interest in both church and Gypsy
music. Franz began to compose at the age of eight and at only nine years old, he made his first
public appearance as a concert pianist. He gave several concerts in Vienna, with great success.
Liszt moved with his family to Paris in 1823. Liszt s Paris debut on March 7, 1824, was
sensational. Between 1830 and 1832, Liszt met three fellow composers who were to have a great
influence on his artistic life, Hector

Sialorrhea, Pain And Fatigue Essay
There are symptoms that can be managed by medications such as spasticity, muscle cramping,
sialorrhea, pain, and fatigue. Tizanidine, baclofen, and quinine sulfate are all common muscle
relaxants that can be use to help control spasticity. Some of the common medications used for
muscle cramping in patients with ALS are creatine, gabapentin, and clonazepam but overall their
effectiveness is unknown due to limited studies. There is not much medication that can deal with
sialorrhea specifically, but many patients with ALS take antidepressants so some physicians can
give antidepressants that have side effects of dryness of the mouth to slow down saliva production.
Some forms of opiates, non steroidal anti inflammatory agents such as aspirin or acetaminophen
can be given for pain management. Fatigue is a very common symptom that is treated without
medication by resting during the day, slowing down daily activity, avoid unnecessary motion. If
fatigue worsens, a newer drug call modafinil can be taken if prescribed by a physician. Modafinil

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a life threatening lung condition that prevents
enough oxygen from getting to the lungs and into the bloodstream. According to Kacmarek,
Stoller and Heuer, it has been proposed that ARDS can develop via different mechanisms and the
risk factors for ARDS should be categorized either by direct injury to the alveolar space or indirect
injury initiated by systemic disease (2014, p. 601) . Common direct injuries to the lungs can include
pneumonia, lung transplant, trauma, septic shock and aspiration among others. Without enough
oxygen, an individual s brain and other organs can be severely damaged. The brain is what

Sequence and Rate of Each Aspect of Development and the Importance of Them
When looking at and discussing a child s development, you have to remember that all children
are different and grow at different rates. Every child will follow the same sequence but they may
not necessarily do it at the same time as each other. For example, you could have two, 6 month old
babies, 1 could already be able to crawl, and the other 1 may not have mastered it yet and may not
until they are a bit older. You must remember that your child is an individual and not group him

Nissan Case Study
BACKGROUND
The Global Leadership of Carlos Ghosn at Nissan
During March 1999, Brazilian Carlos Ghosn took over as the first non Japanese Chief Operating
Officer of Nissan, when Nissan had been incurring losses for seven of the prior eight years. Many
of the industry analysts expected a culture clash between the French leadership style and his new
Japanese employees. Analysts said, because the financial situation at Nissan had become critical so
the decision to bring Ghosn in came at the worst possible time. The continuing losses were resulting
in debts (approximately $22 billion) that were shaking the confidence of suppliers and financiers
alike. Furthermore, the Nissan brand was weakening in the minds of consumers due to a product ...

Along with other Japanese manufacturers, Nissan was successfully competing on quality, reliability
and fuel efficiency. By 1991, Nissan was operating very profitably, producing four of the top ten
cars in the world.Nissan management throughout the 1990s, however, had displayed a tendency to
emphasize short term market share growth, rather than profitability or long term strategic success.
Nissan was very well known for its advanced engineering and technology, plant productivity, and
quality management. During the previous decade, Nissan s designs had not reflected customer
opinion because they assumed that most customers preferred to buy good quality cars rather than
stylish, innovative cars. Instead of reinvesting in new product designs as other competitors did,
Nissan managers seemed content to continue to harvest the success of proven designs. They tended
to put retained earnings into equity of other companies, often suppliers, and into real estate
investments, as part of the Japanese business custom of keiretsu investing. Through these equity
stakes in other companies, Ghosn s predecessors (and Japanese business leaders in general)
believed that loyalty and cooperation were fostered between members of the value chain within
their keiretsu.
By 1999, Nissan had tied up over $4 billion in the stock shares of hundreds of different companies
as part of this keiretsu philosophy. These investments, however, were not reflected in Nissan s

Success Is Within The Individual Mind And Expectations
Success
Success is within the individual mind and expectations. The definition of success differs from
just one person s interpretation of what success means. A large block of life is spent working to
become successful: acquiring an education, being able to take care of family, achieving a life s
ambition, or making money. People are told throughout childhood to work hard so they can grow
up and make lots of money. Everyone aspires to be successful at whatever we are doing: starting a
new business, repairing the car, writing a term paper or practicing basketball. Every bit our efforts
are directed at achieving success. Success is not the end; it is the journey we take and there is no
right or wrong idea of success.
Money is the primary concern for some people and the main ingredient for anyone who is trying to
succeed in life. For this type of person, achieving success starts with going to a good college to
compete in a competitive job market and to prepare people to take on the world. People work
hard to make money so they can satisfy their desires. People dream about owning a home and take
pride in what they possess. Some need to appear successful in order to feel successful. These
people feel accomplished when they can admire what their hard work has given them.
For some, happiness is all that matters. Happiness is achieved in many ways, and it does not
always involve money. A person can feel successful without a lot of money, at all. For example,
feeling loved is

Personal Narrative-Jimin s Existential Crisis
The smell of freshly baked bread filled Jimin s nose as he awkwardly walked around downtown
NY. He tried to blend in with the locals, but everything he did made him stand out. He was
dashingly handsome with a strong athletic build and chocolate brown eyes. There was nothing
normal about him and the more normal he tried to walk, the more uncoordinated he looked.
Jimin sighed audibly, he realized how much attention he was drawing as he forcefully tried to
fuse himself into a group of young businessmen, but he just couldn t do anything about it. His
ripped jeans, blue tee shirt and work boots among the sea of black dress suits made him look like
a m m in a pile of rice. His mission was a covert attack. Key word: Covert. And he was being the
opposite of covert. He was being overt. Jimin s shoulders sagged and his normal exquisite
posture turned into that of a sloth. His haughty confidence had faded away into defeated dread.
If he couldn t even blend in with the locals, how was he supposed to stealthily find Mr. Cane and
eliminate the target . That s what the file said. Written in red ink, the words practically screamed
the extreme importance of the task. Just as Jimin s existential crisis was about to begin, he

The National Missile Defense System is the First Step to Another Cold War and the United States

As we begin the twenty first century, an increasing number of states around the world are acquiring
nuclear capabilities. The sense of insecurity by individual governments is driving many states into
developing and testing ballistic missiles. In the mean time, the United States finds itself in a
position to develop new technology that will protect themselves against these potential missile

Disturbed by the Rumsfeld report, Capital Hill responded immediately by passing two bills. The
first bill known as S. 257 stated, It is the policy of the United States to deploy as soon as is
technologically possible an effective National Missile Defense system capable of defending the
territory of United States against limited ballistic missile attack . The S.257 was followed by a
second bill named H.R. 4 passed in March of 1999 that stated, It is the policy of the United States

The proposal of the National Missile Defense System by Capitol Hill is a clear example of the
international security dilemma, where the United States desire to become more secure
compromises other states security. By setting up a missile defense to escape the power of other
states, this will only create insecurity in the international arena that will prompt other states to react
with their own missile defense system. This dynamia can also be seen through the prisoner s
dilemma diagram (Figure 1). The United States fears for the worst possibility so it arms itself to
increase its protection. It does not trust the other players in the international community and does

Circumcision Research Argumentative Essay
Let s say breakfast cereal was invented to prevent you from masturbating and keep men pure and
sane. In Jewish, Islamic, and Christian practices a newborn boy must be circumcised in order to be
accepted by their god. Others have formed organizations fighting circumcision a surgery that

traumatic to a newborn boy. Thankfully, people have found scientific proof which provide the
public with medical reasons and facts as to why circumcision might or might not be necessary in
a male s life. In American Culture, circumcision has been a medically suggested practice in order
to prevent penile cancer, urinary tract infections(UTIs) and a lower risk of sexually transmitted
diseases (STDs). Not to mention the astounding amount of numbers that show over 2.1 million
males in America that have been circumcised since 2008 at some point in their lives. Despite what

Gender Roles In The Han Dynasty
Within the Han Dynasty, there were three different social levels: emperor and their family, skilled
workers (farmers and merchants), and unskilled workers (servants and slaves). These three
classes were determined by social and economic standings within each family. The gender roles
within the region saw that women were not viewed as equally as men, for the women s major role
was to birth raise children, and take care of the household. The social class system in the Han

the bottom while the more highly people are at the top.

Oral Piercings And Tattoos Have Become A Form Of Self...
Oral piercings are any piercings of the tongue, lips, or cheek. In recent years, oral piercings and
tattoos have become a form of self expression. Oral piercings and tattoos may look cool, but they
can be dangerous to your health. Many people are not aware of the potential side effects of oral
piercings. Some of these include infection, prolonged bleeding, pain and swelling, chipped or
cracked teeth, injury to the gums, interference with normal oral function, bloodborne diseases, and
endocarditis. These side effects occur because the mouth contains millions of bacteria, which makes
it easy for infection and swelling to occur with mouth piercings. If one were to pierce their tongue,

Oral piercings also cause dental appointment difficulties. The jewelry can get in the way of
dental care by blocking x rays. If one were to experience any of these side effects caused by an
oral piercing, the best thing for them to do is contact their dentist or physician immediately.
Following that, as with oral piercings, tattoos have also become popular in today s society and
are viewed as a form of self expression. Although tattoos are very creative and beautiful, they
also pose many risks. One of these risks can be an allergic reaction. Tattoo ink contains several
ingredients and chemicals that a person may be allergic to. An allergy to any of the substances
included in the ink can cause an allergic reaction once the ink gets into the skin. A tattoo allergy
can take a number of different forms, one of these forms is known as an Acute Inflammatory
allergic reaction. This means the skin becomes red, slightly swollen, and irritated at the site of the
tattoo. Many people who get tattoos can experience this form of reaction. This form is generally
not serious and subsides within about two to three weeks. Another form of allergic reaction is
Photosensitivity. This means tattoos that are exposed to the sun may result in an allergic reaction,
particularly those that contain Cadmium Sulfide which can cause an allergic reaction to the sun.
Granulomas are small bumps that can also appear as a result of an allergic reaction as well. These

Summary Of Balzac And The Little Chinese Seamstress
In the novel, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress, by Dai Sijie, it can be observed that
through another character s perspective as well as their own, Luo and the Seamstress
relationship is less than ideal and what once may have been a whimsical experience would soon
fall from its glorious state. A big indicator of the relationship issues is the Old Miller s point of
view, him being unbiased and just an observer. His use of imagery may symbolize more than
what initially meets the eye, so to speak. The Old Miller relates the Seamstress to a swallow, her
arms as wings and he shows her flying through the air with the other birds, this could show many
different things but to tie all this together it would be best to say that this shows that the Old
Miller sees the Seamstress as a free living and elegant being. He shows her flying above her
surroundings and that seemingly depicts her as a celestial being, above(or better than) this
world in which this takes place. This is contradictory to how the Old Miller views Luo. The
Miller briefly goes over Luo while calling part of him shrunken, and depicting him falling asleep.
At first glance the shrunken comment was very accurate but it may also be to show how much
of opposites Luo and the Seamstress are, what with the Seamstress flying with the birds and Luo
laying on the shore, shrunken. The Old Miller also tells how the Seamstress falls into the water,
her wings, extended, did not fold until she touched the surface of the water and plummeted into
the depths , this not only shows that she can jump into a pool of water but also may give an
unintended representation of the relationship between Luo and the Seamstress. Although this
would be beyond the Miller s knowledge it is possible that Sijie intended this, the Seamstress
being the bird, being swallowed by the water, surrounded in it s embrace. Moreover Luo is
controlling the Seamstress in ways that are unconventional to a good relationship, he trains her to
be civilized and won t let her be herself, sounds like he s enveloping her into his world, much like
the water envelops the Seamstress into itself and pulls her to the depths. The Miller s overseeing
eye may provide an

During mid 1990s, with an aggressive growth strategy, BP started to grow and reposition. After

Browne repositioned BP as a green oil company after he took over and practiced the model of

legitimate priorities often conflict (Crews). BP s failure to prevent the explosion was due in part
to complex partnership. BP held the rights to drill using the rig and operation services leased
from Transocean. As a result, of the 126 people aboard the Deepwater Horizon, 79 were from
Transocean, seven were from BP, and the rest were from other firms (Ingersoll et. al, 1). People
serving on Deepwater Horizon came from different organizations. A decision making process
involved many authorities, which decreased the efficiency and effectiveness of decision making.
Even though BP maintained main operational authority, only six percent of people aboard the
Deepwater Horizon rig were from BP. As an important business partner of BP, Transocean provided
the equipment and performed the majority of the work, and thereafter it had some authority over
operations and maintenance. The complex business partnership caused serious

A Leader s Leadership Team
1.0Introduction The term leader is defined as an individual who can lead and influence a group
of individuals to achieve a common goal (Grint, 2010). Being an effective leader takes time,
experience, and lots of maturity. What traits do effective leaders possess? How is the vision of
the organization implemented by the leader into the team? How can a leader build and manage a
team? This paper will talk about all these points in detail. L Arche Toronto is heavily relied on team
work. This is evident with the team structure that is currently in place for each of the four group

A leader is able to influence the people around them to cooperatively commit to accomplish a
certain goal. There are traits that differentiates a leader from the non leaders: ambition, self
confidence, cognitive ability, honesty and integrity, and motivation (Grint, 2010). 2.1Ambition
Leaders should have a moderately high ambition for success. Amongst effective leaders the need
for efficiently completing tasks to perfection is a significant driving force. Developing better ways
of completing tasks, earning high standards of excellence, and successfully accomplishing
challenging tasks satisfies the high achievers. Leaders must be ambitious on making their way to
the top of the organization. A successful leader vigorously take extra steps to demonstrate their
drive and determination; they continuously work toward improvement and success. Ambitious
leaders set challenging goals for themselves and their team to strive for success. They must have a
lot of energy to endure their high accomplishment drive. They must have resilient physical,
emotional, and mental vitality to work long, and intense hours. This permits the leader to gain
practical knowledge, both through education and work experience. Leaders have the tenacity to
overcome obstacles than non leaders as they are persistent in their activities. They are able to work
with distant goals in view and have a high degree of perseverance. They are very proactive and can

Essay about Tourette Syndrome
Tourette Syndrome
Works Cited Not Included
Tourette Syndrome was named for George Gilles de la Tourette, who first discovered the syndrome
in 1885. Today there is still a mystery surrounding the disorder, it?s causes and it?s cures. But one of
the biggest mysteries is an associated behavior called coprolalia. This symptom is the uncontrolled
swearing or socially unacceptable utterances that some with Tourettes experience. Although despite
the media?s fascination, Tourette syndrome is not the cursing disease many believe it to be.
This baffling neurological disorder is characterized by repetitive motor and/or vocal tics. The
identifying symptom of TS seems to be tic disorders. ?A tic is a brief, repetitive, purposeless, ...

There are also utterances of insults and racial comments (Bruun 41). This seems the most
commonly recognized tic disorder of Tourettes. When most think of Tourette they automatically
assume the random cussing. Actually this seems to be a rare symptom. ?Coprolalia, the symptom
that the general public associates most often with TS, and it is not common?(Bruun 41).
It only occurs it a small minority of TS individuals. The numbers are an estimated 5 30% as
reported by the Tourette Syndrome Association in 1993. Some relate the coming on of an
inappropriate word as hard to control as a sneeze. They can feel it coming on but are unable to
control it even with medication (Michigan 1). One of the characteristics of coprolalia that sets it
apart from just simply swearing is that words come out compulsively. Most often when a person is
angry but even if they are just under stress (Kozlowski 1).
Causes of TS are still being debated and most leads are pointing to genetic factors. The
understanding of it seems to be incomplete and unfinished. But in 1999 researchers announced
that they had found evidence suggesting a link between chromosomes 4 and 8 and TS. Though
there still is no clearly identified gene to date. So all they can conclude is if one parent has TS there
is a 50/50 chance for the child to carry it unless it is liked by gender (Packer 5). A study done by
Dr. Ruth Bruun indicated a tendency toward a decrease in severity as patients grow in

The Internet And Its Impact On Our Lives Essay
According to History.com, in 1965, ARPAnet, also known today as the Internet, was invented for
military purposes. However, Tim Berners Lee had a different intention for ARPAnet. He invented
the worldwide web where information was accessible for anyone.
Centuries ago, to impart knowledge or information from the past and pass it from one person to
another, books were created. To obtain it, they had to go to a library, read tons of books about a
certain topic, jotted down and remembered the details they need. Today, all you need is an internet
access and you could have an enormous amount of data at your fingertips in an object that was
manufactured with the same size as a brick. Libraries were mainly used to obtain a physical
evidence of a documentation needed for research, studies, papers or projects. As stated in
History.com, for 56 years, the Internet had evolved. It became an ultimate tool in our daily
lives. However, nothing comes without a price. Nicholas Carr, an author of the article Is Google
Making Us Stupid? , published in The Atlantic as to how the Internet, specifically google, is
changing the way we read and the way we interact with reading materials. On the other hand, John
Battelle, an author, and a journalist, wrote a polemical article entitled Google: Making Nick Carr,

Post Conquest Mexico Essay
In 1521, the fall of Tenochtitlan proved to be an integral piece in the Spanish conquest of Mexico.
After months of devastating warfare between the Aztecs and the Spanish as well as the infection
of smallpox into the Aztec population, the Spanish conquered New Spain (Mexico) as their own,
resulting in the Spanish occupation and rebuilding of Tenochtitlan. The reshaping of the city was
an arduous and complex feat to say the least, as Hernan CortГ©s faced many challenges following
the satisfying victory of the conquest. In order to determine these various challenges involved in
post conquest Mexico, one must assess the various feats CortГ©s struggled through as well as
Carlos I s attempts to deal with the chaos in Mexico. The most decisive endeavours that the
Spaniards faced included: fixing a city of ruins, incorporating the indigenous peoples into society,
and creating a Christian basis throughout the land. Thus, post conquest Mexico faced a magnitude
of challenges based on the socio political, religious, and economic values necessary to conceive

The significance in solving the problems of rebuilding Tenochtitlan, bringing the natives into the
Spanish homelands, and creating a Christian society in New Spain were integral to the initial
success of the Spanish colonies. CortГ©s and Carlos I were key players in the promotion of the
goals of the Spanish empire in creating a New Spain that is admired among the Spanish people.
Overall, the chaos and lack of order among the initial framework of New Spain was easily
overcome as the communal effort of the Spaniards led to the creation of their empire through
rebuilding a city from ruins after the conquests. In closing, CortГ©s was a great leader in the

Mcewan s Use Of Irony In Jane Eyre
McEwan uses irony to express loss of innocence over time and because of war by using amo
chocolate. Paul Marshall is known as the chocolate millionaire (McEwan, 26) because he sells
amo chocolate to the soldiers and earns an abundant amount of money doing so. The word amo
is a pun because it shoulds like the word ammo which is used in guns. The word amo is also a
reference to Latin meaning love. In World War II, most soldiers were just a child living at home
under the supervision of their parents. Now, they are eighteen or nineteen being drafted into the
war. McEwan uses the word amo which means love presumably because the chocolate will remind
the soldiers of their home and thor innocence lost from the horrors of war over time. Paul sells...

McEwan ends Atonement with a letter from the author to the reader. It reveals who was
narrating the novel most of the time by revealing the date London 1999 (McEwan, 350) and if
the reader can recall the age of the character and the year of that age, the reader can determine
who has been narrating the novel the entire time and has been using their point of view, As the
character also confesses who they are, they also confess they have lied throughout the novel.
One of the ways we know the character is a liar because he/she tells the reader what other
characters are thinking, but of course he/she could not possibly know what the other characters
are thinking. The mass of the novel is in third person but generally it is in third person
omniscient, which means that we are usually following along in one particular character s head.
Who this character is, though, often switches around from character to character. What was once
an innocent character who begins to lose their innocence as they grow older and serving the
author s purpose is actually now telling the reader that they have not been innocent the entire
time. So, McEwan s purpose of showing how innocence is lost as time progresses is lost by
revealing who the point of view the novel is in and confessing that bits and pieces of the story are

Movements for Social Change in an Integrated Global...
Income inequality between the rich and the poor continues to be a significant concern in the United
States, prompting national headlines and serious political debate regarding governmental policy.
Historically, economies based on capitalism tend to have a pro business stance, implementing pro
business policies to spur economic growth (Zinn, 2010). The typical role of the labor union has
been to help improve economic equality between workers and the companies that employ them;
however, unions have also helped their members pursue political action and influence the electoral
process to achieve their aims as well (Hodson Sullivan, 2008). Beyond unions, non governmental

For example, child labor produces goods in sweatshops located in developing countries; goods
that make their way into the supply chains of major multinational retailers (McDougall, 2008).
In addition, when work moves to developing countries, there is an impact on the workers in
developed countries that lose their jobs to lower cost labor pools; namely costs that are
transferred to the public sector like unemployment or retraining for workers (Bibby, 2004). To
more effectively deal with issues raised by multinationals operating in an integrated global
economy, there are a growing number of international labor organizations including UNI Global
Union, a global union that represents 900 trade unions and 20 million workers ( UNI Global
Union, 2011). There are several advantages in using a global, federated approach to labor unions,
namely a larger pool of workers that provide the basis for union influence, greater coordination on
issues that span national boundaries and the resulting ability to influence the policy and business
decisions of large multinationals. The most significant disadvantage to a global, federated
approach to unions is the increased scope and complexity of problem that arises from the
requirement to represent a large diverse constituency with diverse needs. For instance, in the case of
outsourced jobs, the recipients of new jobs may not

Iroquois Creation Story Analysis
Through the use of supernatural motifs that later shape the world, David Cusick s work illustrates

A New Critical Approach toward the IroquoisCreation Story The Iroquois Confederacy, a union
of ultimately six different Native American tribes, was a proud and powerful alliance of Indians
living to the northeast of Lake Ontario near New England during the 17th century. One tribe was
known as the Haudenosaunee, or The People of the Longhouse, whose vast domain housed some
villages of over 2000 people at one point a testament to their authority and wide reaching
influence (Baym et al. 17). Of great importance to the Iroquois people were their creation stories,
which peacefully coexisted in over 25 versions. One particular cosmogonic myth has been

Use Of Diction In Corrie Ten Boom s The Hiding Place

author uses diction, syntax, imagery, and tone to elaborate and describe what is going on in the
book, as well as it gives personal thoughts to have a closer relationship with the reader. Diction
can make a big difference in the book. The different types diction that the author uses gives the
book personality and can really determine how the reader interprets the book. In the book, The
Hiding Place, the author uses diction very precisely throughout the whole book. The author
writes Dear Jesus, I whispered as the door slammed and her footsteps died away, how foolish of
me to have called for human help when You are here. (Ten Boom 145). The author uses the word
slammed to elaborate on how badly the door was shut, and in doing so the reader can conclude that
the person that closed the door was angry at the people that the door was being closed upon. This
example of diction shows definitively how the author brings emotion and feeling into the book.

Metsu creates the optical illusion of a three dimensional space on a two dimensional surface
through the floor tiles. For example, the shapes of the floor tiles in the foreground are larger and
gradually get smaller in the background and the colour values of the floor tiles are lighter in
foreground and progressively get darker in the background. Since this painting mimics a three
dimensional space, the details of the floor tiles get blurrier from the foreground to background.
Metsu uses rhythm, a principle of design, on the floor. The floor tile lines direct the viewer s eyes
to the end of the hall. Principles such as gradation and harmony are displayed on the floor tiles
through elements including shape, colour, and space. In addition, Metsu positions the girl in the
foreground overlapping the door. This demonstrates the actual size of the girl, which is relative to
the size of the lady in the background. In addition, the girl in the foreground

Investigating The Property Of Feedback A Multi Stage...
AN INVESTIGATION OF FEEDBACK Zhexun Chen University College London 6th January
2015 ABSTRACT The purpose of this report is to investigate the property of feedback in a multi
stage amplifier. The report describes the frequency response and time of distortion occurrence of
open and close loop in their linear operating region. In the method of contrast, the advantages and
disadvantages of feedback can be easily summarized. Besides the things above, practical
amplifier has some operating constrains. The report also illustrates the possible constrains that
are current limit, slew rate and saturation of the output at supply rails. The final investigation of
this report is the relationship between resonance and the time domain response. AN

Social Darwinism Book Report
Social Darwinism is the theory of evolution applied to human society. Social Darwinism was a
term formed in the late 19th century to describe the idea that humans, like plants and animals,
compete in a struggle for existence. The theory of evolution came about in 1859, when Charles
Darwin, an English naturalist and geologist, published a book called, On the Origin of Species. The
book talks about Darwin s theory of evolutionby natural selectionand survival of the fittest. Darwin
believed that organisms change over time as a result of changes in physical or behavioral traits.
One of Darwin s main points in his book was, Survival of the fittest. This refers to an animal s
ability to survive and reproduce. Species evolve through changes... Show more content on

Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, J.P. Morgan, and Henry Ford. These were just a few business
men that followed the idea of Social Darwinism. In the late 1820 s, Cornelius Vanderbilt went
into business on his own, building steamships in the New York area, eventually becoming one of
the largest steamship operators. In the 1860 s, the railroad industry was entering a period of
great expansion, so he shifted his attention to make railroad transportation more efficient.
Vanderbilt s goal was to control the steel industry. He bought out competitors and suppliers,
giving him total power to set the cost of his product to what he wanted. Vanderbilt used the idea
of Social Darwinism when he transferred from working the shipping to railroad business. He
knew that if he kept his shipping business, it wouldn t be as profitable later on. That s why he
invested his money, focus, and time into building a successful railroad industry. At a young age,
John D. Rockefeller acted much like a young businessman, selling candy to local children and
supporting his family. In 1870, Rockefeller established the Standard Oil Company of Ohio. He
eventually controlled 90 percent of the refining business. With his large profits, he drove his
competitors out of business by selling the oil cheaper than what it cost to produce the oil. After
taking total control, he raised the price of oil to make his money back. In 1873, Andrew
Carnegie entered the steel business and by 1899, the Carnegie Steel Company manufactured
more steel than all the factories in Great Britain. Carnegie s success was to searching for ways to
make better products more cheaply and hired chemists to improve the quality of the steel. He used
a vertical integration which he bought out his suppliers, giving him total power of the cost and
quality of his product. Carnegie was greatly influenced by Herbert Spencer s, Social Darwinism.
Spencer believed that the poor were

James Monroe Research Paper
James Monroe was born in the quiet town of Westmoreland County, Virginia on April 28, 1758.
His father, Spencer Monroe, was married to Elizabeth Jones in 1752. Spencer Monroe was a
circuit judge and a farmer for the town (Kane 40). Monroe was the oldest of five. There were four
other children; Andrew, Joseph, and Elizabeth. His third brother had died in his early childhood. He
attended grammar school at a small academy for boys. This school had a reputation for serving the
best of men, like George Washington and John Marshall (Kane 40), which is unique because he
later followed George Washington as president. George Washington was a family friend of the
Monroes. He admired Washington and was influenced by him at a young age. At age 16... Show

He wanted to buy land in Kentucky and open a law office in Richmond with the money he was
saving. His first aspiration was not practicing law, but going to Europe and traveling the
different countries. Monroe was unsure of himself and needed advice. He turned to Jefferson,
but Jefferson had other plans for Monroe. He wanted Monroe to run for Virginia State
Legislature. Monroe accepted and was elected into the House of Delegates in April 1782
(Stefoff 23). After much preparation, Monroe became a member of the Congress of
Confederation. This event influenced him greatly. During 1786 Monroe found time to marry
the love of his life. Her name was Elizabeth Kortright Monroe. Elizabeth was 17 and James was
27 years old when they were married. They had two daughters and one son (Kane 40). After the
marriage and the children, Monroe quickly got back to his political views and doings. He was
bored of his law practice and wanted a challenge. James served on the 170 member Virginia
Ratifying Convention that decided the fate of the Constitution (Stefoff 35). In the fall of 1788,
Monroe ran for Congress, but his friend and foe, James Madison, defeated him. Monroe did not
give up, although he was disappointed about the loss, he later ran for U.S. Senate against an old
friend John Marshall in 1790 and came home with a victory (Stefoff 37). Monroe was divided by
politics. Now there were two political parties, the Federalist

The Art Nouveau Caused By King Leopold II Of Belgium
In Belgium, the Art Nouveau provided works of Victor Horta. The beauty of these artist works
often overshadows the historic context that funded, supplied, inspired this art and design
movement. The transformation art and design in Brussels during this time was a product of
imperialism and genocide sanctioned by King Leopold II of Belgium, through the exploitation and
appropriation Congolese culture and raw materials.
Born in Brussels, Belgium in 1835, Leopold II became the second king of Belgium at the age of
30 [Fig1]. Belgium was a young country with an equally small economy and population. Striving to
compete the economic success of Britain and Germany, Leopold II would turn his attention towards
Africa, with the purpose of establishing Belgium as a world power, during a time of imperial
growth, which coincided, with the expiation of Art Nouveau in Europe. To acquire the land, raw
materials, and population of twenty million; Leopold II effectively established control of the
Congo through economic and political means. Leopold II was one of the first European rulers to
attempt to develop this area and would successfully obtain it in 1885, creating the Congo Free State
(Frost 2001). Leopold II did many things in order to acquire this colony. For example, he exploited
tensions other colonies controlled by Britain and Germany, by hosting the Brussels Conference of
1876, which lead to the creation of the International African Association; established arbitrate

In the recent past, the history of frontiers has become more relevant; spatial mobility, situational
identity, local contingency and the ambiguities of power among others are some of the elements of

Chemiluminol Synthesis Lab Report
Abstract During the experiment, there were two tasks performed; the synthesization of luminol and
the display of chemiluminescence. The starting material used was 5 nitro 2,3 dihydrophthalazine
1,4 dione, and after the addition of NaOH, sodium hydrosulfite, acetic acid and water, we were left
with the product of crude luminol.1 Then, the crude luminol was dissolved into a stock solution
that contained NaOH.1 That stock solution A was then diluted with water, which turned it into
solution A.1 That solution was then combined with solution B, a mixture made from potassium
ferricyanide and hydrogen peroxide then diluted with water, which allowed us to observe the blue
light emission that was chemiluminescence.1

St Therese Of Lisieux, By Kim Kardashian
What is a hero, people may ask? A hero is somebody who does good things and believes in what
is right and just. I mean, let s be realistic. Who is a hero today? Kim Kardashian, no. Eminem, no.
Nicki Minaj, oh my goodness, no.
St Therese of Lisieux is an everyday hero. She was very loving, caring, kind, friendly and a
brave person. Therese knew at a very young age, that she loved God, and she obeyed his every
command. She took care of the sick and helped the poor. Therese did many great things, and she
influenced Christians to do those things, as well.
St Therese was born January 2, 1873 in Alencon, France. She was raised as a Catholic, along with
her 4 sisters. When she was fifteen, she decided to become a nun, but she wasn t ... Show more

In 1925, she was finally declared as a saint by Pope Pius X. She was also declared Doctrine of the
Church by Pope John Paul in 1997. St Therese is only one out of three women to be given the title
Doctrine of the Church. Her body is on display at a local museum in Ireland, where it remains
uncorrupted.
St Therese was a very kind person. She never judged anyone or even be mean to someone. One
day, Therese went to sit near her sisters, but saw that one nun was sitting all alone on a bench
nearby. Therese was so kind to sit next to her, and keep her company. St Therese was also very
brave. When she ran up to the Pope, she could have gotten arrested. That s like somebody running
up on stage, just to take a selfie with Drake. It s a dangerous thing to do, but yet she didn t care
about that. All she really wanted at that moment in time, was to convince the Pope to become a nun.
Now if that s not courageousness, then what

Today, Australia is a multi cultural society and a variety of the Italian foods and drinks which
altered the Australian cuisine, since their migration and are now currently the largest cultural group

The Italians migrated to Australia between the 1945 and 1970 because of the suffering of
struggling to find employment, lack of food and housing, as a result of the current wars (including
WWII). Over 33,000 Italians migrated during July 1947 1950 to Sydney and Melbourne, as there
was little work available and not adequate food supplies consequently because of the war. Today
there are over 800,000 Australians having Italian descent.
Italians have largely influenced our diet and menu and has changed the way Australians cook. It

Over the span of my lifetime, I have heard comments that vary about the residents overall satisfaction with Union City. To me, it is about neutral because the several advantages and disadvantages are nearly equal in my eyes. However, depending on your home life, social status, and personal liking, Union Citymay or may not be the town for you. Over the years, I become more thankful for my hometown because of the low crime rate unlike many other cities. Union City, previously known as Miles Mills ( History of Union City, PA ), was discovered by David Watts and William Mills in the year 1785 ( History... ). At one time, Union City, was considered The Chair Center of the World due to all the sawmills and chair factories within the city ( History... ). But sadly, now the town is only referred to as Incest City or Union Shitty, which is offensive to the citizens of the town. The sawmills and chair factories in the earlier centuries, currently are not functioning or have burned down in recent years, including the Ethan Allen building which burned down during my lifetime in 2010. The history of Union City may not be as exciting compared to larger cities, but it means so much to the residents or ancestors of people from here. The town of Union City is a very small, friendly, tight knit community. As a citizen, me nor my family have never had any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Adam Liszt As A Principal Figure In The Romantic Movement Liszt was not only a principal figure in the Romantic Movement but also a composer of enormous originality and arguably the greatest piano virtuoso of his time. A controversial character, he was attacked for his innovations, talent and flair by his jealous rivals. As a composer, he radically extended the technique of piano writing, extended the harmonic language, and later developed chromatic harmony which led eventual breakdown of tonality revolutionizing the music of the era. As a pianist Liszt was the first to give complete solo recitals, and he did a great deal to encourage the performance of music by Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Berlioz, Wagner, and Robert Schumann by transcribing their works for piano and playing them in his concerts at a time when they were insufficiently appreciated. He also helped younger composers, and he taught a number of pupils who themselves became famous virtuosos. When Franz was five years old; he was already attracted to the piano and was soon given lessons by his father, Adam Liszt. He began to show interest in both church and Gypsy music. Franz began to compose at the age of eight and at only nine years old, he made his first public appearance as a concert pianist. He gave several concerts in Vienna, with great success. Liszt moved with his family to Paris in 1823. Liszt s Paris debut on March 7, 1824, was sensational. Between 1830 and 1832, Liszt met three fellow composers who were to have a great influence on his artistic life, Hector ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tizanidine, baclofen, and quinine sulfate are all common muscle relaxants that can be use to help control spasticity. Some of the common medications used for muscle cramping in patients with ALS are creatine, gabapentin, and clonazepam but overall their effectiveness is unknown due to limited studies. Nissan Case Study BACKGROUND The Global Leadership of Carlos Ghosn at Nissan During March 1999, Brazilian Carlos Ghosn took over as the first non Japanese Chief Operating Officer of Nissan, when Nissan had been incurring losses for seven of the prior eight years. Many of the industry analysts expected a culture clash between the French leadership style and his new Japanese employees. Analysts said, because the financial situation at Nissan had become critical so the decision to bring Ghosn in came at the worst possible time. Along with other Japanese manufacturers, Nissan was successfully competing on quality, reliability and fuel efficiency. By 1991, Nissan was operating very profitably, producing four of the top ten cars in the world.Nissan management throughout the 1990s, however, had displayed a tendency to emphasize short term market share growth, rather than profitability or long term strategic success. Nissan was very well known for its advanced engineering and technology, plant productivity, and quality management. During the previous decade, Nissan s designs had not reflected customer opinion because they assumed that most customers preferred to buy good quality cars rather than stylish, innovative cars. Instead of reinvesting in new product designs as other competitors did, Nissan managers seemed content to continue to harvest the success of proven designs. They tended to put retained earnings into equity of other companies, often suppliers, and into real estate investments, as part of the Japanese business custom of keiretsu investing. Through these equity stakes in other companies, Ghosn s predecessors (and Japanese business leaders in general) believed that loyalty and cooperation were fostered between members of the value chain within their keiretsu. By 1999, Nissan had tied up over $4 billion in the stock shares of hundreds of different companies as part of this keiretsu philosophy. These investments, however, were not reflected in Nissan s ... • 14. Success Is Within The Individual Mind And Expectations Success Success is within the individual mind and expectations. The definition of success differs from just one person s interpretation of what success means. A large block of life is spent working to become successful: acquiring an education, being able to take care of family, achieving a life s ambition, or making money. People are told throughout childhood to work hard so they can grow up and make lots of money. Everyone aspires to be successful at whatever we are doing: starting a new business, repairing the car, writing a term paper or practicing basketball. Every bit our efforts are directed at achieving success. Success is not the end; it is the journey we take and there is no right or wrong idea of success. Money is the primary concern for some people and the main ingredient for anyone who is trying to succeed in life. For this type of person, achieving success starts with going to a good college to compete in a competitive job market and to prepare people to take on the world. People work hard to make money so they can satisfy their desires. People dream about owning a home and take pride in what they possess. Some need to appear successful in order to feel successful. These people feel accomplished when they can admire what their hard work has given them. For some, happiness is all that matters. Happiness is achieved in many ways, and it does not always involve money. A person can feel successful without a lot of money, at all. For example, feeling loved is ... • 20. Summary Of Balzac And The Little Chinese Seamstress In the novel, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress, by Dai Sijie, it can be observed that through another character s perspective as well as their own, Luo and the Seamstress relationship is less than ideal and what once may have been a whimsical experience would soon fall from its glorious state. A big indicator of the relationship issues is the Old Miller s point of view, him being unbiased and just an observer. His use of imagery may symbolize more than what initially meets the eye, so to speak. The Old Miller relates the Seamstress to a swallow, her arms as wings and he shows her flying through the air with the other birds, this could show many different things but to tie all this together it would be best to say that this shows that the Old Miller sees the Seamstress as a free living and elegant being. He shows her flying above her surroundings and that seemingly depicts her as a celestial being, above(or better than) this world in which this takes place. This is contradictory to how the Old Miller views Luo. The Miller briefly goes over Luo while calling part of him shrunken, and depicting him falling asleep. At first glance the shrunken comment was very accurate but it may also be to show how much of opposites Luo and the Seamstress are, what with the Seamstress flying with the birds and Luo laying on the shore, shrunken. The Old Miller also tells how the Seamstress falls into the water, her wings, extended, did not fold until she touched the surface of the water and plummeted into the depths , this not only shows that she can jump into a pool of water but also may give an unintended representation of the relationship between Luo and the Seamstress. Although this would be beyond the Miller s knowledge it is possible that Sijie intended this, the Seamstress being the bird, being swallowed by the water, surrounded in it s embrace. Moreover Luo is controlling the Seamstress in ways that are unconventional to a good relationship, he trains her to be civilized and won t let her be herself, sounds like he s enveloping her into his world, much like the water envelops the Seamstress into itself and pulls her to the depths. The Miller s overseeing eye may provide an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Such bias and rationalized behavior of drilling engineers just added another warning sign to the explosion of Deepwater Horizon. Secondly, BP s business relationships are complex, and the legitimate priorities often conflict (Crews). BP s failure to prevent the explosion was due in part to complex partnership. One of the characteristics of coprolalia that sets it apart from just simply swearing is that words come out compulsively. Most often when a person is angry but even if they are just under stress (Kozlowski 1). Causes of TS are still being debated and most leads are pointing to genetic factors. The understanding of it seems to be incomplete and unfinished. But in 1999 researchers announced that they had found evidence suggesting a link between chromosomes 4 and 8 and TS. Though there still is no clearly identified gene to date. So all they can conclude is if one parent has TS there is a 50/50 chance for the child to carry it unless it is liked by gender (Packer 5). However, Tim Berners Lee had a different intention for ARPAnet. He invented the worldwide web where information was accessible for anyone. Centuries ago, to impart knowledge or information from the past and pass it from one person to another, books were created. To obtain it, they had to go to a library, read tons of books about a certain topic, jotted down and remembered the details they need. Today, all you need is an internet access and you could have an enormous amount of data at your fingertips in an object that was manufactured with the same size as a brick. Libraries were mainly used to obtain a physical evidence of a documentation needed for research, studies, papers or projects. As stated in History.com, for 56 years, the Internet had evolved. It became an ultimate tool in our daily lives. However, nothing comes without a price. A nonfiction book, otherwise known as The Hiding Place, a story describing Corrie Ten Boom s perspective of her journey that she took during World War II. The author uses diction, syntax, imagery, and tone to elaborate and describe what is going on in the book, as well as it gives personal thoughts to have a closer relationship with the reader. Diction can make a big difference in the book. The different types diction that the author uses gives the book personality and can really determine how the reader interprets the book. In the book, The Hiding Place, the author uses diction very precisely throughout the whole book. The author writes Dear Jesus, I whispered as the door slammed and her footsteps died away, how foolish of me to have called for human help when You are here. (Ten Boom 145). The author uses the word slammed to elaborate on how badly the door was shut, and in doing so the reader can conclude that the person that closed the door was angry at the people that the door was being closed upon. This example of diction shows definitively how the author brings emotion and feeling into the book. Syntax is what makes the reader think about why the author wrote something the way... Metsu uses the element of art, space, to create a three dimensional space in the composition. As a result, the illusion of depth is given to make the painting look realistic. He uses several elements such as line, colour, shape, and even principles such as harmony, rhythm, and gradation to enrich the element of space. These aspects are noticeable through the floor tiles in the comparison to the girl in foreground, which is in proportion to the humans in the background. Metsu creates the optical illusion of a three dimensional space on a two dimensional surface through the floor tiles. For example, the shapes of the floor tiles in the foreground are larger and gradually get smaller in the background and the colour values of the floor tiles are lighter in foreground and progressively get darker in the background. Since this painting mimics a three dimensional space, the details of the floor tiles get blurrier from the foreground to background. Metsu uses rhythm, a principle of design, on the floor. The floor tile lines direct the viewer s eyes to the end of the hall. Principles such as gradation and harmony are displayed on the floor tiles through elements including shape, colour, and space. In addition, Metsu positions the girl in the foreground overlapping the door. This demonstrates the actual size of the girl, which is relative to the size of the lady in the background. These were just a few business men that followed the idea of Social Darwinism. In the late 1820 s, Cornelius Vanderbilt went into business on his own, building steamships in the New York area, eventually becoming one of the largest steamship operators. In the 1860 s, the railroad industry was entering a period of great expansion, so he shifted his attention to make railroad transportation more efficient. Vanderbilt s goal was to control the steel industry. He bought out competitors and suppliers, giving him total power to set the cost of his product to what he wanted. Vanderbilt used the idea of Social Darwinism when he transferred from working the shipping to railroad business. He knew that if he kept his shipping business, it wouldn t be as profitable later on. That s why he invested his money, focus, and time into building a successful railroad industry. At a young age, John D. Rockefeller acted much like a young businessman, selling candy to local children and supporting his family. In 1870, Rockefeller established the Standard Oil Company of Ohio. He eventually controlled 90 percent of the refining business. With his large profits, he drove his competitors out of business by selling the oil cheaper than what it cost to produce the oil. After taking total control, he raised the price of oil to make his money back. In 1873, Andrew Carnegie entered the steel business and by 1899, the Carnegie Steel Company manufactured more steel than all the factories in Great Britain. Carnegie s success was to searching for ways to make better products more cheaply and hired chemists to improve the quality of the steel. He used a vertical integration which he bought out his suppliers, giving him total power of the cost and quality of his product.
