Stereotypes Of Men And Women In The Game Of Thrones
In today s society, men and women are looked at as equal, but it was not always like that. HBO s
famous TV show, The Game of Thrones, contradicts that. First of all, it is just a TV show, which
means it could have, and does have, some exaggerated parts, but it gives a representation of what life
was like for both males and females in the medieval times. In the show, Game of Thrones, the
producer goes against the stereotype that women cannot hold positions of power as well as men can.
Game of Thrones is a TV show that is about several families that fight to sit on the iron throne to
occupy all seven kingdoms, which takes place in a fictional land called Westeros. When conflict
arises, the different families will have to choose who to become ... Show more content on

It is rightfully so that she is both a great leader, and a great person. She goes from getting raped by her
husband, Khal Drogo, and being sexually assaulted by her brother, Viserys Targaryen, to not only the
most powerful female in the show, but the most powerful person out of the seven kingdoms. Daenerys
can be related to a paragraph in, Genies and Witches. Harper s also looked at the new idea, in 1962,
and called it crypto feminism. Women started to look at their roles in society as wives, mothers, and
members of the human race because being a mother was a lot of work which took up most of their
time, women had a desire to go out of their house and get a job, however, countless women became
aware of the institutions that are supposed to serve women are not very helpful. This can be related to
Daenerys because she wanted to get out of her old way of life and start a new one where she was in
power. After getting married to Drogo, Daenerys is now in power. She gets the whole army of
Dothraki by her side. After capturing the city of Astapor, she walks away with eight thousand
Unsullied soldiers. These are the deadliest warriors in the seven kingdoms. Daenerys did this not only
because she needed an army, but also because she wanted to set the slaves free. Before leaving the city
of Astapor, she ordered her soldiers to kill all the slave masters. She not only has a whole army of
Dothraki and Unsullied,

Complex Interactions And Shifting Ideals Shroud Our...
Complex interactions and shifting ideals shroud our country s policy process. In an effort to better
conceptualize and demystify this process, frameworks such as Kingdon s Multiple Streams Approach
(MSA) seeks to offer political actors a model of how social problems transform into living policies.
Multiple Streams Approach proposes that existing social circumstances, when rightly redefined in
policy proposals and paired with the ideal political climate, can lead to productive political decision
making. Though ambiguous in its make up, MSA is a great model to use when attempting to name the
key factors involved in policy making. Multiple Streams Approach suggests that the policy making
process, oddly enough, flourishes in this opaqueness because we as political actors are not limited by
distinctions (Zahariadis, 2014). MSA consists of three streams problem framing, policy solutions, and
political decision making that when brought together under the right conditions can produce change.
The first of these streams, problem definition, seeks to rename the problem. In redefining an issue in
terms the opposition understands, the issue has a better chance of gathering political support for its
cause. One of the most vivid examples of how redefining has succeeded is the use of the definition
sociopolitical when discussing disability issues. Before this, disability issues had been framed in the
policy making arena through a medical and an economic standpoint, resulting in a

Mycenaean Civilization Vs Minoan Civilization Essay
Throughout the Bronze Age, the Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations both flourished leading them to
become extremely powerful periods in history, impacting Greece today. These two civilizations have
helped shape Greece to be the country it is today because of their unique history and characteristics
that have carried on throughout time. Although not all is known about these civilizations,
Archaeologists have identified several aspects and characteristics of each civilization through years of
research and discoveries. Both of these civilizations existed several centuries before Christ. The
Minoan civilization was the first Greek civilization and was on the Meditation rocky island of Crete,
just south of Greece. The Minoans were known particularly for their extensive trade and dominance of
the sea by founding trading colonies nearby. Their civilization existed ... Show more content on

Unfortunately, their civilization came to an abrupt end when the Mycenaean s defeated them and took
over, which demonstrates the Mycenaean s strong militaristic nature. Alongside this conquest, a
deadly earthquake was also a big factor in causing the whole civilization to vanish. The Mycenaean
civilization existed from roughly 600 B.C to 1100 B.C. and was located on Greece s mainland; they
were a forceful and active civilization, who engaged in aspects of trade and some piracy throughout
Europe. The Mycenaean s were well known for their military approach and war tactics allowing them
to grow larger and stronger by conquering and taking over other civilizations. The Minoan civilization
influenced the Mycenaean s greatly due to being so close geographically yet this also had an impact
on why they were so different. The differences between both civilizations outweigh their similarities.
The Mycenaean and Minoan civilizations differed immensely ranging from architecture to art and as
well as huge militaristic differences, which together were mostly because of their different geographic

Pennsylvania Walking Purchase Analysis
In the Pennsylvania Walking Purchase the Penns acquired the land to pursue peace among the settlers
and the Native Americans and ultimately profit for themselves. Penn was willed the land by his father,
Sir William Penn, before he died. However, the land was never surveyed or officially placed in
William Penns name so it became chaos for him and his heirs. Penn had ideas on how he wanted to
govern the land but ran into issues along the way. When Penns sons received the land, they were
already cash poor causing them to cheat and to steal what was not theirs. Penns sons hired men to
cover the distance of the land so they could get clear title for it. With a clear title, Thomas and James
could sell off the land however they deemed fit. Whereas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the land was given to Sir William Penn by Charles II, it was never recorded or measured
off. This presented a problem for William Penn, Native Americans and his sons. In this era the land
would have been measured by how far a man could walk in day and a half (Graham 288). Penns son
Thomas had other plans for the land that his father would have frowned upon. So he hired sprinters to
come in and walk the distance of the land but desiring more land than what was already agreed upon,
he cheated the Lenape. Thomas was so obsessed with money he could make off the land that he got
the Pennsylvanians to run the Indians off the land. The Lenape because of this became bitter and hurt
which eventually shattered the tribe. The final outcome for the Pennsylvania Walking Purchase
changed the course of history. William Penn s vision of a city that was ruled by good faith and a
seventh century Quakerism failed to exist. During the building process the Native Americans felt like
Penn s promise to them was broken and they cut ties with him. His vision of the city was hoped to
bring peace among the people. So he named it Philadelphia, which meant the city of Brotherly

Essay on Historical Prison Eras
Throughout the years the way prisons are run has changed. Changes include social roles, informal
behavior norms, and social solidarity. Prison history has three major eras the Big House, the
correctional institution, and the contemporary prison.
In The Big House era criminals were known as convicts and the guards where known as hacks and
they were both supposed to keep distance from each other. To make their time easier in the Big House,
convicts developed their own social roles, informal codes of behaviors, and language. Inmates created
the social role of the real man in which they were loyal and generous and tried to minimize friction
among inmates. Inmates had a code and believes that was based on the following (1) Don t ... Show

After time resentment developed, staff had promised programs and had not delivered them. Staff
simply didn t know how to conduct a correctional enterprise, or neither have the resources or staff to
make a serious attempt at that task. Correctional institutions had promised to rehabilitate prisoners but
most institutions provide no change in prisoners. Bartollas, 2002 describes the deprivation model as
the prisoners attempt to adapt to the disadvantages imposed by incarceration. The importation model
suggests that the influences that prisoners bring into effect their process of imprisonment. Bartollas
concluded that the integration of the importation and deprivation models was needed to understand the
impact of the prison culture on an inmate.
Lastly the contemporary prison developed more professionalism in their treatment towards inmates,
while some staff members still abuse inmates this behavior is less evident in today s prisons, where
staff on inmate violence was a routine feature of daily life. The support for the inmate codes is also
disappearing in the contemporary prison. The increased number of habitual offenders statutes has led
to the graying of the prison population. A study revealed that inmates that adjusted most successfully
to the prison s environment encountered the most difficulty making the transition from institutional
life to freedom (Bartollas, 2002).
Inmate world has changed from inhumane treatment of inmates to a more humanistic

The High School Dropout Rate
1. If society were to reduce the local high school dropout rate, then I believe that society could
progress rapidly with more skilled thinkers in the workforce. When a student drops out of high school,
he or she is far less likely to succeed. This is due to the fact that most, if not all, skilled jobs that earn a
decent living salary require a high school diploma at the very least. By decreasing the local high
school dropout rate, our society would be giving those would be dropouts an opportunity to succeed
and earn a higher position in society.
There is currently a decline in the high school dropout rate, however this decline is very slight and
would hardly be noticeable in the short term. The reasons as to why high school students ... Show

The current situation of high school students dropping out has been steadily declining since the early
1990 s. This could serve society very well if that trend continues to a point where dropping out of high
school become relatively unheard of. A social dysfunction of high school is that it creates a class
system between those with a high school diploma and those without one. The manifest function of
high school is to provide people with the skills and critical thinking ability to obtain some type base
level skilled work as well as provides a way to help keep kids safe and out of trouble. In contrast, a
high school dropout would have none of those functions and would likely not be employed in skilled
work and as a result might have to turn to criminal activities for an income.
I do not believe that there is any group that benefits from high school students dropping out. People
who drop out of high school will usually have to rely on government subsidies, which in turn will
burden the general population due to higher taxes. I believe that if the high school dropout rate were to
be less than one percent, then society would progress more rapidly due to more skilled thinkers in the
workforce. One of the ways that this could be done is by addressing what I believe to be the main
cause of dropping out which is a lack of academic support. If students who appeared to be struggling
were given more tutoring and after school educational programs, then they might not feel

Wilderness Pledge Research Paper
Philmont Scout Ranch wrote the Wilderness pledge to protect the 137,000 acres of land, so that the

There he was, sitting at a soulless lunch table, munching on his sandwich, wondering why he stuck out

Comparing The Non-GMO Sample, Taq DNA Synthesis And
The components that were added to the PCR reaction is the template DNAs, which are the non GMO
sample, the test food sample, and the GMO positive sample. The rest of the items that were added
were enveloped in the master mix, that consists of dNTPs, a buffer, primers, and Taq DNA
polymerase. The dNTPs are deoxyribonucleoside triphosphate which are basically the nucleotides
needed to elongate a DNA sequence. The buffer is important because it creates the correct pH and salt
condition for DNA polymerase and because it also harbors magnesium ions in it, which serve as a
cofactor for DNA polymerase. Taq DNA polymerase is vital because it is a heat stable enzyme derived

The function of the gel is so that the DNA strands can separate out. The electrophoresis process is
necessary because, due to DNA having a negative charge naturally it will be attracted to substances
that are positively charged, so by positioning the gel, with the DNA samples injected into its wells,
facing towards the positive end of the electrophoresis apparatus with the DNA samples on the opposite
end closest to the negative end, the DNA strands with gradually move down the gel and separate based
on their band size. Before separating the DNA strands can be accomplished, the gel must first be made
accordingly as well as the samples. In order to make the gel, agarose powder and a buffer must be
mixed and cooked together first. The buffer that was used in this experiment is the 1X TAE buffer.
Utilizing a buffer is important in making the gel for gel electrophoresis because gel electrophoresis
depends upon the effective maintenance of pH within the matrix (Magdeldin). Moreover, while
providing the correct pH conditions, it also has the correct salt conditions for DNA polymerase. Salt is

The Structure Of The Company s Expansion
6.4 Growth Planning
The company s expansion consists of platforms in two objectives: (1) provide in house services such
as publishing, manufacturing, merchandising, tour promotion and recording; and (2) sell products in
new geographical markets. Grow is based on expanding operations to territories outside the Twin
Cities area; the number of finished products is increased as we enter new areas. Determining when to
expand depends on the condition of the business and the economic conditions of the market, outlined
below. Before growth is considered, operations must function firmly, and the needs of customers and
clients must be met before, during and after transitions.
Condition of the Business Objections
When any of these factors are met, Devotion will open proposals for growth platforms.
Devotion is recognized by the community and/or a threat in the industry.
Devotion has a customer base that regularly buys our products and employs our services.

INVESTIGATION ON TURNING PARAMETERS ON MACHINING TIME AND VIBRATION OF
CARBON FIBER REINFORCED LAMINATES ABSTRACT: This work proposes the investigation
of machining time and vibration characteristics of machining differently oriented unidirectional
Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP). The carbon fibers are oriented at 0, 45, 90 degrees during
stacking process of laminate. The turning experiments are carried out in Siemens CNC Lathe to
investigate best operating conditions. There are 9 experiments based on Taguchi s L9 orthogonal array
are performed. The machining parameters are Spindle Speed, Feed and Depth of cut and the output
responses are machining time and amplitude of vibration. The predication models are developed using
ANOVA. To find the best value of the regression model, a real time coded Genetic Algorithm (GA)
using Turbo C++ and MATLAB tool box GA are used. The result indicated that predicted models are
significant and the real time coded GA produced best value. KEYWORDS: Turning, Genetic

Nationalism became so popular because the middle class was rising in numbers and they realised that
they should take the crap of the government and would support their country and mold it into what
they want as a people. It was appealing because it offered a way of getting more for yourself and
others and breaking away from the grasp of tyranny. The goals of nationalism in Europe was to better
society for the people and make the government based off what the people want and not a few higher

The Reaction Of A Fischer Esterification Reaction
In this experiment, a Fischer Esterification reaction was performed with two unknown compounds.
The unknown compounds, Acid 2 and Alcohol D, were identified by using the knowledge of the
reaction that took place, and the identity of the product that was synthesized. The identification of the
product resulted from analysis of IR and NMR spectra. For this experiment, Alcohol D and Acid 2
reacted in the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid, resulting in a colorless solution with brown layer
on top. After washes with sodium bicarbonate and brine, the pale yellow liquid product was dried and
then distilled. Distillation resulted in two colorless fractions, the second of which had a boiling point
of 69 70 ˚C. This boiling point is unrealistic for any compound obtained in this experiment, so it was
not used in identifying the product. After distillation, both fractions were spectroscopically analyzed.
The IR and NMR spectra obtained for both fraction were identical, meaning both fractions contained
exactly the same substance. Both fractions also smelled the same, like piña colada, therefore
confirming this conclusion. This outcome also meant that the amount of product synthesized was
5.7393 g. For the identification of the product, IR, 13C NMR and 1H NMR spectra were examined,
and the product was found to be butyl propionate. In the IR spectrum, RM 11 Bi, five key peaks are
observed. These peaks are sp3 hybridized carbons at 2961 cm 1 and 2877 cm 1, an ester at 1737 cm 1,

The And Social Justice Fellows
The week had been strenuous, yet productive. The multiple meetings with fellow organizations and
countless hours of volunteer services depleted my energy. Add the hours of academic work, and well, I
could never complain that my life was uneventful. On this eventful day, the Social Justice Fellows
were holding our monthly guest speaker meeting. Although at the time I was feeling lethargic, the
monthly meetings always gave me a boost of inspiration. I have an affinity towards academia and
activism, but an even stronger affinity towards intellectual discourse. Which these meetings never left
me disappointed. On this day our guest speakers were a group of community activist, mental health
workers, and a few professors. For the hour we discussed intersectional systems of oppression that
affect black women (and people of color), ways as activist that we may combat these inequalities, and
the psychological impact of unbalanced power structures create for the individual. The discussion was
thought provoking; as always, however I found myself in a conundrum. Here I sat in a room with
women whom I admired and also worked with. Their passions an infinite spectrum ranging from
environmental justice to demanding a pay increase for our cafeteria workers. I shared almost every
part of my existence with these women. We shared a common living space, attended the same classes,
and faithfully crowded in the living room Thursday nights to watch How to Get Away With Murder. I

Social Security Trust Vs. Privatization
Social Security Trust v. Privatization
Debates over Social Security have been ongoing since its inception in 1935 until today. The trend
seems to be toward an increasing percentage of the American public, across party and demographic
lines, in favor of strengthening Social Security funding, and a willingness to pay more to preserve and
even improve benefits. However, the trend towards privatization of Social Security is also on the rise.
What is not clear is whether Americans favor privatization because of fears that the Social Security
Trust Fund is living on borrowed time.
The Social Security Act (SSA) of 1935 was drafted during the Great Depression as part of President
Franklin D. Roosevelt s New Deal. The SSA was an attempt to ... Show more content on

In 1965, Congress expanded the system to include Medicare, which provides both hospital and
physician coverage to the elderly and disabled. In 2003, Congress added a prescription drug benefit to

have advocated for privatizing Social Security, even though Americans are in favor of Social Security
and wish to strengthen the program.
The American public strongly supports Social Security, across party and demographic lines. A January
2013, National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI) study, Strengthening Social Security: What Do
Americans Want?, found that Americans overwhelmingly support Social Security and are willing to

of Americans say they do not mind paying Social Security taxes because of the stability and security

My Vocation, My Calling Change My Life
Vocation is the calling a person experience in regards of aspirations in their life. Vocation in an
invitation by God to pursue our love for something in particular, some people hear this calling early on
in life, while other spend many years trying to find it. This paper will explore types of God callings,
my calling and how my calling change my life. One of the first calling most people experience is the
call to work. God created people to work, he did not discriminate against men and women, in his eyes
both need to work to be able to provide for them and their families. Many people are fortunate to have
this calling, but unfortunately more people are out of jobs and this is not because God did not give
them this calling, but it is because of different circumstances they experience. Genesis 1:27 28
expresses God s calling to work God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created
them; male and female he created them. God blessed them, and God said to them, Be fruitful and
multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds
of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth. This passage speaks to me because it
proves that God wants people to contribute to the community.
The second calling is to live, not only to work: people have to work, our jobs are necessary, but
sometimes we get caught up in our jobs that we forget to realize what is truly important and what
gives our life

But What Do You Mean By Deborah Tannen Summary
Deborah Tannen and William Lutz both discuss the difficulty of communicating. Their point of views
may be different, but their conclusion is the same. Men and women have difficulties of
communicating. Not because the two genders want to be complicated but simply because we don t
realize how or what we re doing when it s happening.
Talking, it is a form of communication that we as people do because it is our human nature to. AS
humans conversation is a ritual (327), we speak without thinking of other meanings that our words
could mean. We don t think about appropriation, the way others may think, or take other feelings into
account. WE as humans speak to interact because as mentioned earlier Conversation is a ritual (327).
When it comes to talking there is no right way, the way society communicates it can mislead, distort,
inflate, circumvent, obfuscate one another.
In the first excerpt Deborah Tannen wrote But What Do You Mean? , she breaks down and classifies
the conversational areas where men and women have the most difficulties communication. Tannen s
excerpt is written from a personal point of view, it is written within her daily workplace and based off
actions or events she encounters between men and women. Tannen argues that men tend to be more
confrontational when communication and women happen to approach confrontation in a subtle way.
Men are direct and to the point, while women try to negotiate. In the excerpt Tannen breaks her
argument into 7 sperate

John Wycliffe And The Lollards Function
The writings of John Wycliffe and the Lollards function as sort of a prequel to the protestant
reformation that would sweep through England and Europe in the sixteenth century. It is clear that the
Lollards were not all perfect representations of Wycliffe s beliefs. Furthermore, just like the many
divisions of Protestantism, Lollardism was made up of many groups of differing opinion. It was not a
monolith. However, there are numerous discernible similarities in belief between Wycliffe, and his
varied followers, and the eventual English Reformation. The writings of John Wycliffe were a
significant precursor in the political and religious developments of the English Reformation. One of
the primary concerns of Wycliffe was the temporal power of the clergy. His first works, including the
De Civili Dominio, focused on the unwelcomed intrusion of the pope and his clergy into secular
affairs. This was not a view unique to the fourteenth century. Kings had often vied against the Pope for

What Are The Similarities Between Internal And External...
Not all studies are perfect, and therefore there are aspects that need to be improved to make this
research more valid, reliable and accurate. These factors that need to be considered include internal
and external validity. Internal validity is concerned with eliminating confounding variables with a
study, whilst external validity refers to generalisation. (University of New England, 2000) Within this
article, the external validity is compromised as the internal validity is heavily controlled. The
participants were selectively chosen through criteria and all participants were mature aged men with
osteoarthritis. This controlled selection, therefore, makes the study difficult to be generalised to the
outer population, as the recruitment is specific. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The experiment itself was also not conducted in a controlled environment as each participant was
tested in different environments, which once again effects the internal validity of this study. Bias is
also evident in this article, which consequently impacts the reliability of this research. The drug
Meriva is mentioned more heavily than the drug chondroitin. The unsatisfactory amount of
information on the drug chondroitin makes it difficult for readers to thoroughly to grasp the full
understanding of the drug itself. The hypothesis and conclusion were not clearly evident or even stated
within the research article and therefore, this consequently effects the validity and reliability. The
procedure explained in the article was vague and contained little detail about how the method was

Black Communities During The 1960 s
During the 1960 s, there were important events, actions, and organizations that changed the black
communities lives. The 1960 s are an important time period because of the Civil Rights Movement.
During that time period, the black community s were able to vote (Voting Rights of 1965) and the
Civil Rights Act of 1968. Between 1965 and 1968, the Black Panthers Party was created. Huey
Newton and Bobby Seale created the Black Panther Party in Oakland, California in 1966. The Black
Panther Party was original called, The Black Panther Party for Self Defense ; they implemented
Malcolm X philosophy of self defense because during the time The Black Panthers were created there
were high rates of police brutality towards the black community, which meant that Black people were
being killed at random with no reason. Before The Black Panther Party had a name, Newton and Seale
created the Ten Point Program, which explained what they wanted, and what they believed in. Newton
and Seale both knew that they could not present their Ten Point Program without a name and they
came up with the Black Panther Party (B.P.P). The Ten Point Program consists of ten points which are
Freedom, Full employment, an end of robbery by the white man of the black community, decent
housing, Education which teaches black history, black men to be excepted from military service, stop
the murder of black people, wanting all black men to immediately release from all federal jails and

Martin Luther And John Calvin Views On Sinful People
Martin Luther and John Calvin Views on Sinful People
Justification by faith (Sola Fide), the core value of the Reformation, is the belief that
righteousness from God is a recompense for sinner s accounts through faith alone. The sixteenth
century movement for the reform of abuses in the Roman Catholic Church resulted in the
establishment of the Reformed and Protestant Churches. Reformers like Martin Luther and John
Calvin were two of the most significant figures in the history of The Reformation. They both
proclaimed Justification as the main subject of the gospel of God s grace. They were well
acknowledged for their common doctrines of salvation as the deliverance from sin and its
consequences. They believed that to be brought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To compare Martin Luther s and John Calvin s view on the subject of a sinful person, I
thoroughly looked into their common doctrines and considered how they differ in implementing
the rules that manage their ideology. I was able to conclude that even though Luther and Calvin
shared similar doctrines, their conceptualization and interpretation of those doctrines is very
different. Based on their opinions of sinners, I further realized that not only do they have divergent
interpretations of similar doctrines, but they also have different ambitions and their personalities
are extreme opposites.
Luther often blamed the flesh, which Protestants refer to as our sinful nature (they
believed is the cause of human impurities), for the sins of every human and he gave credit to the
Spirit for every good things that man does. The Reformers and the Protestants believe that there
are two types of spirits: the Holy Spirit, which they proclaim to be the spirit of God, and the human
spirit, which is the part of humans that opens up to the spirit of God. The spirit that is often
refereed to when talking about the flesh is the human spirit (what does the Bible mean by the
flesh by Msgr. Charles Pope). We might argue that Luther is trying not to be judgmental, that he
acknowledged the fact that efforts to live a sin
free life is a mere dream, and the best approach to

Creating A Winning Employee Recognition Culture
12 Powerful Tips to Build a Winning Employee Recognition Culture About 65 percent of the people in

top 12 employee appreciation statistics] In the same report, 89 percent of employers feel that most
employees leave their companies to earn more money. However, most workers who leave their jobs
cite lack of appreciation as a major reason for seeking other opportunities. HR departments, which are
challenged to recruit and retain the best people, are the prime movers for implementing a culture that
recognises employees, motivates them in their jobs and rewards them with essential psychological
rewards that extend far beyond material incentives. Spending money on routine company gift cards isn
t the same as offering personalised and specific praise based on an employee s performance. Gifts and
incentives can reinforce any verbal praise, but providing honest and thoughtful recognition is one of
the most critical things leaders and HR departments can do to foster a positive company culture where
people enjoy working. Organisations with the most effective recognition strategies have 31 percent
lower turnover rates due to voluntary migration of staff members. [Officevibe.com: Employee

Dracula Expository Essay
Expository Essay
Mary Arnold
For centuries, vampires have been depicted in various cultures and throughout literary history as both
bloodsuckers and vampire lovers. A good example is they ve been portrayed as both monsters,
comedic villains, and romantic figures. The film industry has represented many incarnations of
vampires on the big screen for decades. Let s begin with the first vampire film, Nosferatu (monster),
up to the latest vampire film, Twilight (lover).
Along came, Nosferatu, an unofficial adaption of Bram Stoker s Dracula, and the first ever vampire
film released. Because the German studio, in charge of the film, could not obtain rights to the novel
from Stoker s widow, Florence Stoker, many elements of the respected novel were altered to avoid
plagiarism, including names and omitting characters. Dracula, for instance, became Count Orlok , and
unlike Stoker s vampire, the creature in Nosferatu is horrendously repellant: its bald head instantly

(and unlife) of Louie, played by Brad Pitt, who is a Louisiana plantation owner of colonial times, who

codependent partnership in New Orleans, completing their family with a tempestuous vampire child,
Claudia, played by Kirsten Dunst, whom Lestat has converted. The vampires depicted in the film have
both monster like, humorous and romantic qualities; all of which are not usually depicted at the same

CSCC coordinates its efforts with various U.S. intelligence agencies. There are two guiding principles
the intelligence and analysis section follows. First, it must ensure all of its efforts are interagency
coordinated. Prior to the launching of the CSCC, there was very little interdepartmental coordination.
Within the U.S. government, there were multiple agencies with overlapping responsibilities within the

intelligence and analysis section attempts to make the best use of information provided by intelligence
agencies and academic analysis of the adversary of interest. The plans and operations team is

State Of Massachusetts Essay
On February 6, 1788, the state of Massachusetts officially became the 6th state of the United States.
The capital of Massachusetts is Boston. Boston is home to 645,966 out of 6,692,824 who live in
Massachusetts. Massachusetts also has a very unique flag. Their flag is a blue shield with a gold
Native American in the center. This makes since because the name, Massachusetts means the word
mountain in a Native American language.
There are many interesting facts about Massachusetts. For one, Massachusetts is bordered by several
states. These states include: Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, and Rhode Island.
Another fact about Massachusetts is that their state flower is the mayflower. This appropriate because
the famous Mayflower ship landed on Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts. The state s bird is the
Chickadee and their tree is the American Elm. To add to these facts, Massachusetts is also nicknamed
the Bay State because of it s proximity to several bays.
Aside from being one of the most interesting states in the U.S, Massachusetts is also birthplace to
many interesting people. The governor of Massachusetts, Charles Duane Charlie Baker Jr. is one for
starters. Massachusetts is also the birthplace of many great writers. Edgar Allen Poe, the famous

Biomechanics Of Golf Essay
Golf Biomechanics
Golf, The gentleman s game. A sport renowned for money, colourful pants, old people, Tiger Woods
and being the worst game to watch on TV. But, surprisingly enough, golf has too many biomechanics
than I have time to explain. Everything interesting in golf happens in the span of about 1.5 seconds
and everything that matters happens in half a millisecond. That s right, even though it takes 5 minutes
for a golfer to setup for a shot, 0.004 seconds of those 5 minutes counts. Now don t get me wrong, I
love golf. If I didn t, I d be talking about a sport that requires a sharp mind and peak physical
condition. But, now that I m here, I may as well get on with my presentation
The basic premise of golf is to get the ball in the hole ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the backswing starts, torque is being created as the golfer takes the club back and rotates in a
clockwise direction. Unlike many other sports, a golf swing does not happen while the player is
moving (unless you are happy Gilmore of course). A golfer will remain at a fixed point and rotate
around an axis, which in this instance is around the centre of the chest. Torque can be calculated by
multiplying the amount of force by the lever arm of the force. The lever arm of a golf swing is
calculated by the perpendicular distance from the axis of rotation here to the line of action of the force
here. As I explained earlier, the long shaft of the driver increases the length of the lever arm and,
although more force is required to move the club, a greater amount of speed can be created. Adding to
this, the larger the rotation away from the axis, the more angular acceleration can be created and a
greater amount of torque is produced. This explains why many great drivers of the golf ball have large
amounts of shoulder rotation as it allows them to create as much torque as possible, translating into
larger amounts of angular acceleration and longer drives. Considering the average length of drives is
increasing year by year, it s not hard to see why increased torque is vital for an advantage in

African American applicants less favorably than European applicants, but also that African Americans
of lighter complexions were treated more favorable than that of the darker applicants (Harrison

Immediately after the Nazi takeover in 1933. Gobbels and Julius Streicher began to act violently

The NurembergRace Laws, 1935

during that time people sometimes called it the Age of Reason. Due to the fact authorities were being

The Use of Imagery in The Princess Bride by William Goldman
In The Princess Bride by William Goldman there is a love so strong not even death can take it away.
When you think of a princess you may picture a girl with a lavish dress on and a crown full of jewels
on top of her head, but not in William Goldman s The Princess Bride. The readers encounter just a
regular girl from a family that was never royalty, and who is always thinking of her one true love who
was once thought dead.
The use of Imagery is seen in William Goldman s The Princess Bride when the author tells about
when he did not like to read, The Zoo of Death, and The Cliffs of Insanity.
When readers read a story written by an author they will usually think that the author likes to read
books and is what led the author to writing a book. William Goldman said, As a child, I had no Interest
in reading (Goldman 3), this can lead readers to imagining the author as a young child rather than an
adult not wanting to read a book. When Readers imagine the author as a young child the image
imagined can give a better sense of how the author felt as a young child. The imagination of a child
giving the reader a picture to think about is less complex than that of a adult giving a reader a picture
to think about.
The Zoo is ever child s dream of seeing strange animals that they have never seen before, but this zoo
is like no other. It was kept with things he could hunt, and it really wasn t like any animal sanctuary

King Louis XIV of France used the Baroque style of art in an effective attempt to represent himself as

  • 2. Stereotypes Of Men And Women In The Game Of Thrones In today s society, men and women are looked at as equal, but it was not always like that. HBO s famous TV show, The Game of Thrones, contradicts that. First of all, it is just a TV show, which means it could have, and does have, some exaggerated parts, but it gives a representation of what life was like for both males and females in the medieval times. In the show, Game of Thrones, the producer goes against the stereotype that women cannot hold positions of power as well as men can. Game of Thrones is a TV show that is about several families that fight to sit on the iron throne to occupy all seven kingdoms, which takes place in a fictional land called Westeros. When conflict arises, the different families will have to choose who to become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is rightfully so that she is both a great leader, and a great person. She goes from getting raped by her husband, Khal Drogo, and being sexually assaulted by her brother, Viserys Targaryen, to not only the most powerful female in the show, but the most powerful person out of the seven kingdoms. Daenerys can be related to a paragraph in, Genies and Witches. Harper s also looked at the new idea, in 1962, and called it crypto feminism. Women started to look at their roles in society as wives, mothers, and members of the human race because being a mother was a lot of work which took up most of their time, women had a desire to go out of their house and get a job, however, countless women became aware of the institutions that are supposed to serve women are not very helpful. This can be related to Daenerys because she wanted to get out of her old way of life and start a new one where she was in power. After getting married to Drogo, Daenerys is now in power. She gets the whole army of Dothraki by her side. After capturing the city of Astapor, she walks away with eight thousand Unsullied soldiers. These are the deadliest warriors in the seven kingdoms. Daenerys did this not only because she needed an army, but also because she wanted to set the slaves free. Before leaving the city of Astapor, she ordered her soldiers to kill all the slave masters. • 3. Complex Interactions And Shifting Ideals Shroud Our... Complex interactions and shifting ideals shroud our country s policy process. In an effort to better conceptualize and demystify this process, frameworks such as Kingdon s Multiple Streams Approach (MSA) seeks to offer political actors a model of how social problems transform into living policies. Multiple Streams Approach proposes that existing social circumstances, when rightly redefined in policy proposals and paired with the ideal political climate, can lead to productive political decision making. Though ambiguous in its make up, MSA is a great model to use when attempting to name the key factors involved in policy making. Multiple Streams Approach suggests that the policy making process, oddly enough, flourishes in this opaqueness because we as political actors are not limited by distinctions (Zahariadis, 2014). MSA consists of three streams problem framing, policy solutions, and political decision making that when brought together under the right conditions can produce change. The first of these streams, problem definition, seeks to rename the problem. In redefining an issue in terms the opposition understands, the issue has a better chance of gathering political support for its cause. One of the most vivid examples of how redefining has succeeded is the use of the definition sociopolitical when discussing disability issues. Before this, disability issues had been framed in the policy making arena through a medical and an economic standpoint, resulting in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Mycenaean Civilization Vs Minoan Civilization Essay Throughout the Bronze Age, the Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations both flourished leading them to become extremely powerful periods in history, impacting Greece today. These two civilizations have helped shape Greece to be the country it is today because of their unique history and characteristics that have carried on throughout time. Although not all is known about these civilizations, Archaeologists have identified several aspects and characteristics of each civilization through years of research and discoveries. Both of these civilizations existed several centuries before Christ. The Minoan civilization was the first Greek civilization and was on the Meditation rocky island of Crete, just south of Greece. The Minoans were known particularly for their extensive trade and dominance of the sea by founding trading colonies nearby. Their civilization existed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, their civilization came to an abrupt end when the Mycenaean s defeated them and took over, which demonstrates the Mycenaean s strong militaristic nature. Alongside this conquest, a deadly earthquake was also a big factor in causing the whole civilization to vanish. The Mycenaean civilization existed from roughly 600 B.C to 1100 B.C. and was located on Greece s mainland; they were a forceful and active civilization, who engaged in aspects of trade and some piracy throughout Europe. The Mycenaean s were well known for their military approach and war tactics allowing them to grow larger and stronger by conquering and taking over other civilizations. The Minoan civilization influenced the Mycenaean s greatly due to being so close geographically yet this also had an impact on why they were so different. The differences between both civilizations outweigh their similarities. The Mycenaean and Minoan civilizations differed immensely ranging from architecture to art and as well as huge militaristic differences, which together were mostly because of their different geographic ... • 5. Pennsylvania Walking Purchase Analysis In the Pennsylvania Walking Purchase the Penns acquired the land to pursue peace among the settlers and the Native Americans and ultimately profit for themselves. Penn was willed the land by his father, Sir William Penn, before he died. However, the land was never surveyed or officially placed in William Penns name so it became chaos for him and his heirs. Penn had ideas on how he wanted to govern the land but ran into issues along the way. When Penns sons received the land, they were already cash poor causing them to cheat and to steal what was not theirs. Penns sons hired men to cover the distance of the land so they could get clear title for it. With a clear title, Thomas and James could sell off the land however they deemed fit. Whereas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though the land was given to Sir William Penn by Charles II, it was never recorded or measured off. This presented a problem for William Penn, Native Americans and his sons. In this era the land would have been measured by how far a man could walk in day and a half (Graham 288). Penns son Thomas had other plans for the land that his father would have frowned upon. So he hired sprinters to come in and walk the distance of the land but desiring more land than what was already agreed upon, he cheated the Lenape. Thomas was so obsessed with money he could make off the land that he got the Pennsylvanians to run the Indians off the land. The Lenape because of this became bitter and hurt which eventually shattered the tribe. The final outcome for the Pennsylvania Walking Purchase changed the course of history. William Penn s vision of a city that was ruled by good faith and a seventh century Quakerism failed to exist. During the building process the Native Americans felt like Penn s promise to them was broken and they cut ties with him. His vision of the city was hoped to bring peace among the people. So he named it Philadelphia, which meant the city of Brotherly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay on Historical Prison Eras Throughout the years the way prisons are run has changed. Changes include social roles, informal behavior norms, and social solidarity. Prison history has three major eras the Big House, the correctional institution, and the contemporary prison. In The Big House era criminals were known as convicts and the guards where known as hacks and they were both supposed to keep distance from each other. To make their time easier in the Big House, convicts developed their own social roles, informal codes of behaviors, and language. Bartollas, 2002 describes the deprivation model as the prisoners attempt to adapt to the disadvantages imposed by incarceration. The importation model suggests that the influences that prisoners bring into effect their process of imprisonment. Bartollas concluded that the integration of the importation and deprivation models was needed to understand the impact of the prison culture on an inmate. Lastly the contemporary prison developed more professionalism in their treatment towards inmates, while some staff members still abuse inmates this behavior is less evident in today s prisons, where staff on inmate violence was a routine feature of daily life. The support for the inmate codes is also disappearing in the contemporary prison. The increased number of habitual offenders statutes has led to the graying of the prison population. • 7. The High School Dropout Rate 1. If society were to reduce the local high school dropout rate, then I believe that society could progress rapidly with more skilled thinkers in the workforce. When a student drops out of high school, he or she is far less likely to succeed. This is due to the fact that most, if not all, skilled jobs that earn a decent living salary require a high school diploma at the very least. By decreasing the local high school dropout rate, our society would be giving those would be dropouts an opportunity to succeed and earn a higher position in society. There is currently a decline in the high school dropout rate, however this decline is very slight and would hardly be noticeable in the short term. The reasons as to why high school students ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The current situation of high school students dropping out has been steadily declining since the early 1990 s. This could serve society very well if that trend continues to a point where dropping out of high school become relatively unheard of. A social dysfunction of high school is that it creates a class system between those with a high school diploma and those without one. The manifest function of high school is to provide people with the skills and critical thinking ability to obtain some type base level skilled work as well as provides a way to help keep kids safe and out of trouble. In contrast, a high school dropout would have none of those functions and would likely not be employed in skilled work and as a result might have to turn to criminal activities for an income. I do not believe that there is any group that benefits from high school students dropping out. People who drop out of high school will usually have to rely on government subsidies, which in turn will burden the general population due to higher taxes. I believe that if the high school dropout rate were to be less than one percent, then society would progress more rapidly due to more skilled thinkers in the workforce. One of the ways that this could be done is by addressing what I believe to be the main cause of dropping out which is a lack of academic support. If students who appeared to be struggling were given more tutoring and after school educational programs, then they might not feel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The dNTPs are deoxyribonucleoside triphosphate which are basically the nucleotides needed to elongate a DNA sequence. The buffer is important because it creates the correct pH and salt condition for DNA polymerase and because it also harbors magnesium ions in it, which serve as a cofactor for DNA polymerase. The function of the gel is so that the DNA strands can separate out. The electrophoresis process is necessary because, due to DNA having a negative charge naturally it will be attracted to substances that are positively charged, so by positioning the gel, with the DNA samples injected into its wells, facing towards the positive end of the electrophoresis apparatus with the DNA samples on the opposite end closest to the negative end, the DNA strands with gradually move down the gel and separate based on their band size. Before separating the DNA strands can be accomplished, the gel must first be made accordingly as well as the samples. In order to make the gel, agarose powder and a buffer must be mixed and cooked together first. The buffer that was used in this experiment is the 1X TAE buffer. The goals of nationalism in Europe was to better society for the people and make the government based off what the people want and not a few higher up aristocrats. • 14. The Reaction Of A Fischer Esterification Reaction In this experiment, a Fischer Esterification reaction was performed with two unknown compounds. The unknown compounds, Acid 2 and Alcohol D, were identified by using the knowledge of the reaction that took place, and the identity of the product that was synthesized. The identification of the product resulted from analysis of IR and NMR spectra. For this experiment, Alcohol D and Acid 2 reacted in the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid, resulting in a colorless solution with brown layer on top. After washes with sodium bicarbonate and brine, the pale yellow liquid product was dried and then distilled. Distillation resulted in two colorless fractions, the second of which had a boiling point of 69 70 ˚C. This boiling point is unrealistic for any compound obtained in this experiment, so it was not used in identifying the product. After distillation, both fractions were spectroscopically analyzed. The IR and NMR spectra obtained for both fraction were identical, meaning both fractions contained exactly the same substance. Both fractions also smelled the same, like piña colada, therefore confirming this conclusion. This outcome also meant that the amount of product synthesized was 5.7393 g. For the identification of the product, IR, 13C NMR and 1H NMR spectra were examined, and the product was found to be butyl propionate. In the IR spectrum, RM 11 Bi, five key peaks are observed. These peaks are sp3 hybridized carbons at 2961 cm 1 and 2877 cm 1, an ester at 1737 cm 1, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Add the hours of academic work, and well, I could never complain that my life was uneventful. On this eventful day, the Social Justice Fellows were holding our monthly guest speaker meeting. Although at the time I was feeling lethargic, the monthly meetings always gave me a boost of inspiration. I have an affinity towards academia and activism, but an even stronger affinity towards intellectual discourse. Which these meetings never left me disappointed. On this day our guest speakers were a group of community activist, mental health workers, and a few professors. For the hour we discussed intersectional systems of oppression that affect black women (and people of color), ways as activist that we may combat these inequalities, and the psychological impact of unbalanced power structures create for the individual. The discussion was thought provoking; as always, however I found myself in a conundrum. Here I sat in a room with women whom I admired and also worked with. Their passions an infinite spectrum ranging from environmental justice to demanding a pay increase for our cafeteria workers. The trend seems to be toward an increasing percentage of the American public, across party and demographic lines, in favor of strengthening Social Security funding, and a willingness to pay more to preserve and even improve benefits. Vocation in an invitation by God to pursue our love for something in particular, some people hear this calling early on in life, while other spend many years trying to find it. This paper will explore types of God callings, my calling and how my calling change my life. One of the first calling most people experience is the call to work. God created people to work, he did not discriminate against men and women, in his eyes both need to work to be able to provide for them and their families. Many people are fortunate to have this calling, but unfortunately more people are out of jobs and this is not because God did not give them this calling, but it is because of different circumstances they experience. Genesis 1:27 28 expresses God s calling to work God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them, and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves upon the earth. This passage speaks to me because it proves that God wants people to contribute to the community. The second calling is to live, not only to work: people have to work, our jobs are necessary, but sometimes we get caught up in our jobs that we forget to realize what is truly important and what gives our life ... • 19. But What Do You Mean By Deborah Tannen Summary Deborah Tannen and William Lutz both discuss the difficulty of communicating. Their point of views may be different, but their conclusion is the same. Men and women have difficulties of communicating. Not because the two genders want to be complicated but simply because we don t realize how or what we re doing when it s happening. Talking, it is a form of communication that we as people do because it is our human nature to. AS humans conversation is a ritual (327), we speak without thinking of other meanings that our words could mean. We don t think about appropriation, the way others may think, or take other feelings into account. WE as humans speak to interact because as mentioned earlier Conversation is a ritual (327). When it comes to talking there is no right way, the way society communicates it can mislead, distort, inflate, circumvent, obfuscate one another. In the first excerpt Deborah Tannen wrote But What Do You Mean? , she breaks down and classifies the conversational areas where men and women have the most difficulties communication. Tannen s excerpt is written from a personal point of view, it is written within her daily workplace and based off actions or events she encounters between men and women. Tannen argues that men tend to be more confrontational when communication and women happen to approach confrontation in a subtle way. Men are direct and to the point, while women try to negotiate. • 21. John Wycliffe And The Lollards Function The writings of John Wycliffe and the Lollards function as sort of a prequel to the protestant reformation that would sweep through England and Europe in the sixteenth century. It is clear that the Lollards were not all perfect representations of Wycliffe s beliefs. Furthermore, just like the many divisions of Protestantism, Lollardism was made up of many groups of differing opinion. It was not a monolith. However, there are numerous discernible similarities in belief between Wycliffe, and his varied followers, and the eventual English Reformation. The writings of John Wycliffe were a significant precursor in the political and religious developments of the English Reformation. One of the primary concerns of Wycliffe was the temporal power of the clergy. His first works, including the De Civili Dominio, focused on the unwelcomed intrusion of the pope and his clergy into secular affairs. This was not a view unique to the fourteenth century. Kings had often vied against the Pope for power throughout the Middle Ages. The extent of the Pope s influence and power in foreign realms was certainly not a settled issue in England or the rest of Catholic Europe. The De civili dominio suggests that it is the responsibility of the state, and its secular rulers, to judge the morality of the church. Wycliffe begins the De civili dominio by establishing precedent for his ideas by referring to the ancient magi, or three wise men that visited Jesus upon his birth. Wycliffe states a long held ... Not all studies are perfect, and therefore there are aspects that need to be improved to make this research more valid, reliable and accurate. These factors that need to be considered include internal and external validity. Internal validity is concerned with eliminating confounding variables with a study, whilst external validity refers to generalisation. (University of New England, 2000) Within this article, the external validity is compromised as the internal validity is heavily controlled. I was able to conclude that even though Luther and Calvin shared similar doctrines, their conceptualization and interpretation of those doctrines is very different. Based on their opinions of sinners, I further realized that not only do they have divergent interpretations of similar doctrines, but they also have different ambitions and their personalities are extreme opposites. Luther often blamed the flesh, which Protestants refer to as our sinful nature (they believed is the cause of human impurities), for the sins of every human and he gave credit to the Spirit for every good things that man does. The Reformers and the Protestants believe that there are two types of spirits: the Holy Spirit, which they proclaim to be the spirit of God, and the human spirit, which is the part of humans that opens up to the spirit of God. A good example is they ve been portrayed as both monsters, comedic villains, and romantic figures. The film industry has represented many incarnations of vampires on the big screen for decades. As the backswing starts, torque is being created as the golfer takes the club back and rotates in a clockwise direction. Unlike many other sports, a golf swing does not happen while the player is moving (unless you are happy Gilmore of course). A golfer will remain at a fixed point and rotate around an axis, which in this instance is around the centre of the chest. Torque can be calculated by multiplying the amount of force by the lever arm of the force. The lever arm of a golf swing is calculated by the perpendicular distance from the axis of rotation here to the line of action of the force here. As I explained earlier, the long shaft of the driver increases the length of the lever arm and, although more force is required to move the club, a greater amount of speed can be created. Adding to this, the larger the rotation away from the axis, the more angular acceleration can be created and a greater amount of torque is produced. This explains why many great drivers of the golf ball have large amounts of shoulder rotation as it allows them to create as much torque as possible, translating into larger amounts of angular acceleration and longer drives. Considering the average length of drives is increasing year by year, it s not hard to see why increased torque is vital for an advantage in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
