What Is Nancy Mairs Cripple
In the excerpt Disable (1992) , Nancy Mairs claims that she prefers to be described as a cripple as
opposed to the more accepted terms disabled or handicapped. Mairs states, I am a cripple. I choose
this word to name me. I choose from among several possibilities, the most common of which are
handicapped and disabled . In order to allow the audience to understand her viewpoint, Mairs utilizes
repetition by consistently using the term cripple , denotation using the words handicapped and
disabled, and has a blunt tone. Maris is targeting the everyday American, whether the individual
contains a disability or not.
Throughout the excerpt, Mairs emphasizes that cripple is the most appropriate and honest term to use,
and continuously utilizes the term. For example, from lines 1 through 20, cripple is used in four
instances to support her point of view. In Line 1, Mairs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Mairs describes in the excerpt, I would never refer to another person as a cripple. It is the word I
use to name only myself. In Maris opinion, society cannot even begin to accept people who have
physical or even mental disorders; she states, society is no readier to accept crippledness than to
accept death, war, sweat, or wrinkles. Furthermore, Mairs explains why she prefers the term cripple
stating that, ...to be fair to myself, a certain amount of honesty underlies my choice. Cripple seems to
me a clean word, straightforward and precise. It has an honorable history, having made its first
appearance in the Lindisfarne Gospel in the tenth century. As a lover of words, I like the accuracy with
which it describes my condition: I have lost the full use of my limbs. Disabled, by contrast, suggests
any incapacity, physical or mental. And I certainly don t like handicapped, which implies that I have

Muhammed Farah Aydid Analysis
A task force of over 400 American special operations Soldiers flew into Somalia with orders to
apprehend a warlord. Their mission was part of an international peacekeeping and humanitarian effort
to stabilize the areas estimated 4.5 million starving population. The seventh attempt by these Soldiers,
to capture this warlord, named Muhammed Farah Aydid, is the subject of this paper and known as the
Battle of Mogadishu, occurring on October 3 4, 1993 (Encyclopedia Britannica, Somalia Intervention
). The process of time, leadership resolution, and the changing battlefield have produced relevant and
elaborative primary and secondary sources on this event. This paper examines a number of those

This hanger was vulnerable to enemy indirect fire. The enemy used the innocent local population to
his advantage. By this, I mean he used women as shields as he fired upon U.S. Forces, armed children,
and deception methods such as pretending to be an innocent but in close proximity to the smoking gun
(Tomasso, 5, 12). Safety has been an ongoing and seemingly uncontrollable opponent of the Army.
Arguably, faulty Washington level coordination caused the failures related to this mission, While
better policy coordination from the Secretary of Defense down to TFR [Task Force Ranger] could
have prevented the 3 October 1993 raid from occurring, TFR did have all the means in Mogadishu to
successfully accomplish the mission. However, overconfidence in TFR s capabilities and
underestimation of the enemy s ability to find and attack TFR vulnerabilities were critical failures that
led to a series of other failures (Sangvic, 1998). I believe lack of knowledge, inexperience, and a
technology gap were the causes of the aforementioned planning issues. Effects of the ill decision
making were enormous. The hanger received indirect fire from the enemy resulting in the wounding of
several helicopter crew chiefs. Soldiers met confusion when navigating the rules of engagement
(Tomasso, 5, 12 13). Human error, netted well over three fourths of the safety accidents in the

Nietzsche Overcoming Nihilism Analysis
Friedrich Nietzsche: Overcoming Nihilism
The understanding of Friedrich Nietzsche s argument suggests that we can overcome nihilism.
Nihilism suggests that all values are untrue and nothing is justifiable, and Nietzsche believes one can
overcome it by revaluating our values (Nietzsche et al. 1887). From the following quote, I understand
that Nietzsche has two main arguments, one of which is a cultural debunking argument which refers to
a social selection and the other is a consequence based argument which is the bad consequences of us
subscribing to the slave morality. Considering these two arguments, Nietzsche notions that by
devaluating our values, one could start seeking power and answers. One final argument Nietzsche
mentions is that we are all incomplete nihilists and we need to become complete nihilists by creating
our own values. All in all, Nietzsche claims that cultural debunking arguments, consequence based
arguments and devaluating our values will help one overcome nihilism.
Firstly, by culturally debunking theories, Nietzsche believes we can find meaning in something that is
not already there. Nihilism states that existence has no aim , unity or truth to it, making life valueless
as a result (1888). Nietzsche states that we have to put meaning into this fictitious world and by doing
so, we can deposit a true world beyond the world we re familiar with. In premise one of the cultural
debunking argument, Nietzsche states that society has a concern with

Similarities Between Blurred Lines And Marvin Gaye
Blurred Lines and Marvin Gaye In 2013, the song Blurred Lines was released by Robin Thicke. The
song was a huge number one hit in America. However, many individuals felt that Blurred Lines eerily
resembled the song Got to Give it Up by Marvin Gaye. The similarities between the two songs
eventually brought about a lawsuit amongst Robin Thicke, along with Pharrell Williams, and Marvin
Gaye s family. When the case was taken to court, the jury determined that Robin Thicke and Pharrell
Williams had in fact committed an act of plagiarism. The case granted Marvin Gaye s children a large
sum of cash due to the money earned from Blurred Lines , and the artists associated with the song,

What Is A Role Model
When you think of a role model, who comes to mind? Many would say an actor, singer, athlete, etc.
My role model is my sister, Natasha Hobley. For those who don t know Natasha personally, they
probably wouldn t understand why she is a role model to me. However, I find her to be a role model
for many reasons. Not only is Natasha strong, fearless, and independent, but she is the most loving
person I have ever met. Regardless of the trials that have been thrown at her, she always comes out on
top, and stronger than before. Natasha has unfortunately lost loved ones in her life, but still manages
to find happiness in the darkest situations. Despite battling mental and emotional battles, my sister
continues to find the best in situations, and always uplifts others. Ever since I was a child, I remember
looking up to her and always wanting to be just like her. Natasha Hobley is my role model. My sister
Natasha is one of the most amazing and loving people I have ever met. Some of my earliest memories
are of her taking care of my two other sisters and me. I remember always going places with her and
her friends, and her loving bringing me places. There was no greater feeling than getting to go places
with my big sister and her friends, that I thought were so cool! In January of 2017, my dad s brother
passed away. Our family had never had any huge losses, so it hit all of us pretty hard. Natasha lives in
Las Vegas, Nevada, but the majority of our family lives in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Bystander apathy and effect is a idea that people are cruel or not willing to react when they are in a
situation where a person in severe problem is in need of their essence they are not willing to react in a

people and inhuman acts to severe or weird situations whether these acts are deserving they shall not

Lets come together as a strong union and come together and never let tragedies like this ever happen
again and be an example for the future generations. If we can find a way to stop this before it affects
other generations, then this world would be a lot safer teaching the youth as they girl and learn from
your actions and beliefs and it is important that you to teach the youth this because one day they are
gonna be the future and are gonna make the difference in this world. We need to make an example of
people like Catherine, who were victim of these inhuman acts of stubbornness and lack of effort we
shall treat everyone the same and change our ways in the end that s what s gonna make the difference.
Our sincere forgiveness should go out to the victims who have fallen due to this and we should never

Betrayal In Poetry Essay
Carol Ann Duffy and William Blake both explore aspects of betrayal, but from different perspectives.
While Duffy explores the betrayal of a single person, Blake explores the type of betrayal that corrupts
and oppresses a society as a whole from the point of view of an outsider.
Carol Ann Duffy presents the sense of betrayal in her poem Havisham in many ways. She successfully
presents this theme in the first line of stanza one:
Beloved sweetheart bastard. Not a day since then
I haven t wished him dead.
The oxymoronic juxtaposition of sweetheart and bastard in the first line presents a vivid picture of
personal betrayal, as the sarcastic tone is suggested in the positive sweetheart , which immediately
turns into anger as the speaker calls the man a bastard. This is ... Show more content on

Spinster. I stink and remember.
By stabbing the cake, it symbolises the death of her marriage, through the betrayal of her partner, by
being left at the altar. Duffy s theme of betrayal is represented throughout the poem by the symbolism
of death and hatred for the man that left her.
Lastly, Duffy presents the theme of betrayal by the use of enjambment at the end of the poem.
Love s
Hate behind a white vail,
Love s hate stands out the most to the audience because of the contrast between the two words, of
being positive and negative at the same time. Thus causing the audience to feel confused with the
speaker at the events that are unfolding within the poem. The enjambment within the line suggests
how separate the two emotions are for the speaker as she battles with the contrast of emotions inside
of her. Linking to the oxymoron of Love s hate , this conveys the sense of confusion in her thought
waves as she battles between love and hate after her ex fiancé betrayed her by leaving her on her
wedding

Observation Of Student Motivation
The teacher began the lesson by showing students a place value chart. The teacher also checked for
fluency by asking the students double fact addition sentences and had them write on their individual
white board. The teacher had the students use a place value chart to count $124 with in their groups.
b. What was the motivational question or questions, if you can t identify one or any state that?
Why do we call this a place value chart?
How much do you have?
If you have 10 dollar bills, what can you do?
How did you organize your money?
c. What teaching strategies were used to maintain student motivation throughout the lesson?
The first strategy I saw the teacher use was activating student s prior knowledge. The teacher asked
the students several questions that made students think throughout the lesson. The teacher had the
students engaged by using a dry erase board and a marker. The teacher also used manipulatives such
as fake money and a place value chart to have students count money. Last but not least the teacher
planned for group work.
d. What student behavior gave you the impression that students were indeed motivated to learn?
The students were actively engaged. They seemed excited to be able to participate by using their
boards. Some students found it almost like a competition when the teacher was checking for fluency. I
noticed that students that usually don t like to participate put their hands up. The students seemed
excited when

In the specialty literature doubts persist in using this terminology, especially in relation to the scope of
the hospitality industry. Thus, a series of authors consider as part of this field only food and
accommodation services, perhaps because those benefits are offered under the same premises works
like industrial units, other authors, however, consider it appropriate a broader approach, including
leisure services and even the marketing of products.

The wedding of Rosaura and Pedro is a good example of magical realism in the book. Tita, saddened
by the soon to be married couple, cried as she made the wedding cake and a tear fell into the mix. This
tear causes the monumental wedding disaster. On page 39 the magical realism of accentuated detail
begins, The moment they took their first bite of the cake, everyone was flooded with a great wave of
longing. The people eating the cake felt Tita s longing for the wedding, but that s not the pinnacle of
the detail. The greatest moment of magical realism is on the next page, She struggled to control her
nausea, but it was too much for her! Her only concern was to keep her wedding dress from being
fouled by the degradations of her relatives and friends; but as she crossed the patio she slipped and
every inch of her dress ended up coated with vomit. She was swept away in a raging rotting river for
several yards; she couldn t hold back anymore, and she spewed out great noisy mouthfuls of vomit,
like an erupting volcano, right before Pedro s horrified eyes. As shown in this excerpt, the vomiting
and ruining of the horrid wedding wouldn t have been as revolting as it is without magical realism. I

Mobile Technology Is A Major Leader Essay
Mobile technology is a major leader in information technology and provides opportunities for
innovation, agility and flexibility in the workplace ( GOVERNMENT USE OF MOBILE
TECHNOLOGY , 2012). This fast growing field provides new innovation, agility, flexibility in the
workplace while driving the future of our end user computing platform ( GOVERNMENT USE OF
MOBILE TECHNOLOGY , 2012). The Obama administration recently ordered all federal agencies to
begin making at least two apps as part of its digital government plan (Breeden II, 2012). With this
mandate some agencies are already ahead of the power curve having apps hit the market already while
still developing new apps, but one of the things that government agencies will have to adjust is the
level of their apps as they are considered primitive compared to the private sector apps. Also to note is
that government apps are linked to stored information which makes most of them simple databases.
The NASA app was one of the first agencies to have an app go public and has been available since
2010. This app shows pictures of the universe and it shows it in high definition. The Ask Karen app
was launched by the Agriculture Department and is a friendly app that can answer all questions
pertaining to food for example, how long food can last in a power failure or if you want to know if a
restaurant cooked your fish correctly (Breeden II, 2012). The National Cancer Institute Mobile is a

Description Of Body Dysmorphic Disorder
Body Dysmorphic Disorder Paige Herrell Northeast State Community College Body Dysmorphic
Disorder DIAGNOSTIC CRITERIA Preoccupation with an imagined defect in appearance is one way
to possibly detect body dysmorphic disorder. If a slight physical anomaly is present, the person s
concern with the body part is extremely excessive. The preoccupation causes significant distress or
impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. Repetitive behaviors may
occur; including mirror checking, excessive grooming, skin picking, reassurance seeking, clothes
changing, comparing one s appearance with other people. HISTORY Body dysmorphic disorder was

Women are usually obsessed with their legs and breasts, while men are obsessed with muscle size and
genitals. Body dysmorphic disorder also shows up in other countries. BDD is a common disorder
among individuals seeking aesthetic surgery in Iran. In Brazil, prevalence of the disorder in
dermatologic patients was evaluated in a sample of 150 patients in a cosmetic group, 150 in a general
dermatology group, and 50 control subjects. Prevalence in the cosmetic group was 14%, compared
with 6.7% for the general group, and 2% for the control group. CAUSES Exact causes of the
condition have not been verified, though there are plenty theories that exist. Heredity may have a big
impact on the development of body dysmorphic disorder. Prevalence of the disorder is four times
higher in first degree relatives of individuals that already have the condition than in relatives that do
not have it. Brain anomalies may be important causes. Functional abnormalities in visual processing
and limbic systems have been documented. A study found disturbances in whole brain structural
topologic organization in subjects with body dysmorphic disorder. Another study investigating the
potential role of early life sexual, physical, or emotional abuse in the development of body
dysmorphic disorder found that subjects with the condition had more retrospective experiences of
sexual and physical abuse during childhood or adolescence

Berna Six Case Study
The Jena Six were six black teenagers in Jena, Louisiana indicted in the 2006 beating of Justin Barker,
a white understudy at the nearby Jena High School, which they likewise went to. Barker was harmed
on December 4, 2006 by the individuals from the Jena Six, and got treatment at a crisis room. While
the case was pending, it was regularly refered to by a few media reporters as a sample of racial
treachery in the United States. A few analysts trusted that the litigants had been accused at first of as
well genuine offenses and had been dealt with unjustifiably. Various occasions had occurred in and
around Jena in the months prior to the Barker ambush, which the media have connected with a
claimed acceleration of nearby racial strains. These occasions incorporated the hanging of rope nooses
from a tree in the secondary school patio, two brutal showdowns in the middle of white and black
young people, and the decimation by flame of the fundamental working of Jena High School. Broad
news scope identified with the Jena Six regularly reported these occasions as linked.[1] Federal and

THE HOBBIT
BY J.R.R. TOLKIEN
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien is a story of adventure and danger, and it is a prime example of a
romantic plot and fantasy genre. What makes this story such a great example of a romantic plot? One,
the unlikely hero, Mr. Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit that is dragged on an adventure he doesn t wish to
take. Second, there is a great quest with a reward at its end. Third the great teacher figure, Gandalf is a
wizard that helps Bilbo to become the great hero he is destined to be. And lastly the dragon figure, in
this story the dragon figure, happened to be a dragon but there are also many miniature dragon figures

is later on considered to be normal because Gandalf comes and goes throughout the duration of the
trip. All through the quest Bilbo ends up saving the party from many dangerous situations. This is
something that at first Bilbo finds hard to believe because he has very low self esteem. The group
always seems to find themselves in worse, and worse problems, but they always overcome these
problems, with the help of Bilbo and some times Gandalf. Some of these problems include: getting
caught by trolls, getting captured by goblins, being attacked by large wolves called Wargs, one of the
dwarves falls into a coma from touching black water in the Mirkwood Forest, nearly dying of
starvation, being captured by large spiders and being captured by wood elves. Although this is all very
good action, the real action begins when the party finally reaches their destination Lonely Mountain
(home of Smaug).
On Lonely Mountain, in order to sneak into Smaug s lair, Bilbo puts on his magic ring, which turns
him invisible. He talks to the dragon for a while and gets the dragon to show him the under side of his

Neutrality In My Brother Sam Is Dead
The American Revolution was a war of principles fought by Loyalists and Patriots. However,
Loyalists believed in neutrality, peace, and no brutality or treason. Therefore, Patriots believed in
freedom of religion, the right to bear arms, and the right to break away from the British government.
In the novel My Brother Sam is Dead created by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier, a
family disputes over which side is right. James and Christopher Collier use the ironies of Life, Jerry,
and Sam s death to induce Tim s decision of neutrality. Firstly, Life s death contributes to Tim s
reasons to be neutral. For an instance, Tim finds out that father was taken by cowboys on the way back
from Verplanks Point. In June of that year, 1777, we found out that father was dead. ...it wasn t a
Rebel prison, ship it was a British one (164). Tim expects father would die because the cowboys had
already attacked him for cattle and he was a Loyalist. Tim discovers that loyalty is valued in the
British side. He thinks that why should he be loyal to a side that s dishonest. Tim chooses neutrality
because the Loyalists are deceptive, brutal, and aren t true to their word. Since Tim does not want to

Tb Is An Infectious Disease
What is TB?
TB is an infectious disease. This means that disease causing pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses, fungi

Pathogens can be spread in many different ways which are: horizontal/vertical the disease is passed
through to the baby from the mother, either from the placenta or breast feeding; direct when you come
in direct contact with the pathogen; waterborne the disease comes from water you drink; food you eat

This will cause chest pains and night sweats.
TB is more likely to develop if you have HIV/AIDS, are an alcoholic, abuse drugs, or live in damp,
overcrowded conditions. People with weaker immune systems, are also more susceptible.
How to avoid the spread of the disease
A vaccine containing a weakened version of the bacterium has been produced, called Bacille Calmet
Guerin (BCG) to prevent the spread of TB. This is often given to people aged 16 35 and those more
likely to catch the disease, i.e. people travelling to, and staying in, countries where the infection is
more likely to occur, healthcare practitioners, homeless shelter workers and immigrant hostel workers.
Whilst working with an active TB patient, the spread of this disease can be easily avoided by washing
hands, before and after a task is completed, wearing the appropriate P.P.E. (personal protective
equipment), and making sure it is clean, never using needles more than once, and correctly disposing
of them. Surfaces should be wiped down with disinfectant, before and after use, and all equipment
must be sterile, to prevent cross contamination and there are procedures you should always follow to
keep both yourself and your patient safe. Always wipe down surfaces before and after use, with
disinfectant.

Hydraulic Fracture Case Study
In grid based models, the fracture is propagated through a fixed grid. This idea was used in early 2D
hydraulic fracture simulators (Settari 1980) where when the stress normal to the fracture plane
exceeded the tensile strength, the fracture extended into a new grid cell. Therefore, grid based models
were suitable for coupling with reservoir simulators and geomechanics codes (Ji, Settari, and Sullivan

2015). The Unconventional Fracture Model (UFM), developed by Cipolla et al. (2010), considers the
effect of natural fractures, stress distribution, and influence of the mechanical properties of fracture
morphology (Cipolla et al. 2010). The UFM model can simulate the propagation of asymmetric
fracture networks accounting for fluid flow in the fracture network and elastic deformation of the
fractures. The initial assumptions and governing equations (fluid flow in the fracture network, mass
conservation and fracture deformation) are similar to the conventional P3D model (Weng 2015).
Passey et al. (2010) claimed that there is a large variability in lithology between shale plays and even
within a single shale formation (Passey et al. 2010). Britt and Smith (2009) emphasized the
importance of geomechanics and the state of stress of a shale play for a successful hydraulic fracturing

ductile shale tend to restore any fracture formed, brittle shale often have natural fractures which react
to hydraulic fracturing (Rickman et al. 2008). In general, the Young s Modulus of the shale measured

I stepped of the St. Louis version of the subway and found my way to the platform. Résumé, class

woman, who introduced herself as my research supervisor, Melisa Moore, who has become a close
friend and mentor to me in education and research. Starting on the first day, I began to realize the joy
of research. That joy of learning about the unknown and using that knowledge to help others has

The purpose of this study is to attain more information regarding a phenomenon discovered recently in
which obese individuals that do not normally consume non nutritive sweeteners, such as sucralose,
exhibit both a metabolic and hormonal response to the consumption of these types of sweeteners. The
study is intended to ascertain information pertaining to the generalizability of this phenomena (i.e.,
whether most or all individuals with limited exposure to non nutritive sweeteners exhibit this
response) and the mechanism by which this phenomenon occurs. My role in the NNS study began by
considering a list of potential participants and removing those who would not qualify. Thus, the data
consolidation skills I had developed were extremely helpful over the next two months. After filtering
potential participants, my supervisor asked that I perform phone screens of those that passed the initial
filtration, a process that has continued. Both this study and the LID study are still in progress and are
expected to reach completion in December and June, respectively. As a result, neither study has
resulted in published results; however, both studies are in clinical trials and can be found on

Assignment On Cutting The Federal Budget
Cutting the Federal Budget The most challenging thing for a public administration is the budget. It is
difficult because there are so many things that will affect it and in the end, it could leave to a worse
society and a diminishing country. It is also tough because it cuts so many programs from funding that
many constituencies depend on it and for some it can mean a life or death situation. In my assignment,
I cut the budget to 46 Million dollars in surplus and 89.6% in budget sustainability. What I had to do
was increase revenue and make cuts across the board from Social Security cuts, defense cuts, public
and military budget cuts as well. I made quite a few changes to the budget to achieve my goal of

I did not make these cuts because it is vital to senior citizens. I also realized that the elite class need to

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)
Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), also known as female genital cutting (FGC) and female
circumcision, is the removal of part or the entire external female genitalia or any injury to the female
genital organ with no medical reasoning. The practice of circumcision is entrenched in gender
inequality and efforts to control women s sexuality. It is believed to bring about honor, purity, and
cleanliness; however, FGM/FGC is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights of
girls and women. It reflects deep rooted inequality between the sexes, and constitutes an extreme form

A Brief Note On Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy ( Dnp )
Diabetic Foot Problems Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DNP), also know as Neuropathy nerve
damage. Diabetes can impair blood flow to your feet and cause nerve damage (Castro 180). High
blood sugar can injure nerve fibers throughout your body, but diabetic neuropathy most often damages
nerves in legs and feet. Enigmatically, recent reports have described that long term tight glycemic
control may be major risk factor for the development of diabetic neuropathy (Zhang, et al. 1). Diabetic
neuropathy can also affects the eyes, retinopathy, increasing the risk for glaucoma and blindness.
Physicians recommend eye exams every six months to one year. The eyes must be checked often as
vision can deteriorate quickly in patients with diabetes. A person with diabetes may not be aware of a
wound or injury to their foot due to a decreased sensation in their feet, a condition called diabetic
neuropathy. Therefore, great care must be taken to inspect the feet everyday. Neuropathy is a chronic
condition, which will get worst over the time. Been diagnosed with neuropathy can change a patients
life; this can turn into a chronic disease that will be treated with adequate medication, maintaining low
blood sugars, doing self examinations of the feet to prevent any further complications and visiting the
physician as directed to do routine check ups.
Diabetic neuropathy begins as a generalized asymptomatic dysfunction of sensorimotor or autonomic
peripheral nerve fibers and is by far the

How Were Women Treated In The 1920 s
Throughout history, women have been viewed differently from men. In the 1880 s and before, women
were in charge of making a happy home, her job above all was to make sure her husband was happy.
Around, the 1910 s women began fighting for their right to vote and to be viewed as an equal to the
janitor that works for them. Still, to this day, women and girls are fighting to be viewed as an equal
and respected as men and boys are in our society. According to, Our Deportment, or The Manners,
Conduct, and Dress of Refined Society by John H. Young, in the 1880 s and before, women didn t
work outside the house, they couldn t vote and their biggest and most important job was to make sure
their husband was happy. In today s society, women are lawyers, doctors, and teachers. They have the
choice to have kids or get married rather than being expected to like they were before. Women s rights
and how they re viewed have evolved so much in 200 plus years, they have jobs outside the house and
for the most part they are viewed as an equal to men. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Rose For Emily, By William Faulkner Essay
Isolate is defined as to remain alone or keep separate from others whereas solitude is the state of being
alone. Isolation and solitude are tremendous, effective and beating emotions. They forces the capacity
to devastate a people life by overpowering it with despair and murkiness. A short story, A Rose for
Emily, by William Faulkner, was initially published on April 30, 1930. William Cuthbert Faulkner was
born in New Albany, Mississippi, on September 25, 1897. As he experienced childhood in New
Albany, Mississippi, the Southern culture impacted to him. Through his works such a Sartoris (book,
1931), The Sound and The Fury (1929), As I Lay Dying (ballad, 1930), The Sanctuary (1931), and A
Famle (1954), he delineated sequentially the rotting Southern culture. Nathaniel Hawthorne, an
American creator of Young Goodman Brown, born on July 4, 1804, in Salem, Massachusetts,

occurred between Sam, Henry and Brody, where Sam yells angrily at henry and Brody yelling for

intentionally causes the claimant to reasonably apprehend direct and immediate application or force
.To identify whether the Defendants words or actions are a reasonable expectation of immediate
application or force, the act or words must give the claimant good reason to fear them. Which Sam s
shouting and threat is an act that would cause the reasonable person to fear immediate application or
force. Stephens v Myers (1830) .It is reasonable to believe that Sam was going to commit an act
against Henry and Brody. It doesn t have to be proven that the claimant believed violence was going to
occur, only that in the circumstance it was a reasonable belief . For it to be considered as reasonable,
the threat must be able to be carried out there and then (immediately) which was established in the
case of Thomas v National Union of Mineworkers (1985) . Which seems clear that it was possible for
the threat of punching to have been carried out as they were in the same room. Some delay

How A Newly Graduated Physiotherapist Can Prepare For...
For students to graduate from a physiotherapy course, upto 1000 clinical hours needs to be completed
(Dawson, Morris Wilson, 2014). In terms of clinical experience, as a graduate, 1000 hours are
minimal in relation to the greater paradigms of development and clinical knowledge. The Chartered
Society of Physiotherapy [CSP] (2013) clinical supervision guidelines promote the benefit of clinical
supervision for new graduates in adhering to Health and Care Professionals Council [HCPC] (2012)
expectations of improving professional development and profiling evidence. There are differences in
supervision, development opportunities and senior support for newly qualified physiotherapists in the
National Health Service (NHS) and private sector. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To prepare for employment, a new graduate can self analyse skills and clinical performance using
models of analysis. Self analysis can take many forms, from the competency learning model to
personal reflective writing. The purpose is to identify areas for skill development and use the models
for improving knowledge (Higginson and Hicks, 2006). From this preparation, the individual can then
appreciate the level of clinical supervision that will be required post graduation to support professional
development and direct of job applications appropriately towards either the NHS or private sector.
One model of self analysis that an individual can use is the four stages of competency. These four
stages allow a person to identify the level currently at in relation to a specific skill and then over time
chart the course of the development of the skills from incompetence to competence (Getha Taylor,
Hummert, Nalbandian and Silvia, 2013). The four stages are: unconsciously incompetent, consciously
incompetent, consciously competent and unconsciously competent (Getha Taylor et al, 2013). A new
graduate usually is unconsciously incompetent as the individual is unaware of what is not known and
lacks the knowledge of an experienced physiotherapist (Getha Taylor et al, 2013). In this case the
structured clinical supervision of the NHS, discussed further below, would be beneficial in providing
scope for progression and

Influenza, Avian Influenza, and the Impacts of Past and Looming Pandemics
Avian influenza is a disease that has been wreaking havoc on human populations since the 16th
century. With the recent outbreak in 1997 of a new H5N1 avian flu subtype, the world has begun
preparing for a pandemic by looking upon its past affects. In the 20th Century, the world witnessed
three pandemics in the years of 1918, 1957, and 1968. In 1918 no vaccine, antibiotic, or clear
recognition of the disease was known. Killing over 40 million in less than a year, the H1N1 strain
ingrained a deep and lasting fear of the virus throughout the world. Though 1957 and 1968 brought on
milder pandemics, they still killed an estimated 3 million people and presented a new ... Show more

As stated by the World Health Organization, all fifteen HA subtypes and nine DNA subtypes have
been detected in free flying birds . (WHO, 2005, 12) They, in turn, provide a huge and highly mobile

Wild aquatic fowl, ducks in particular, serve as a reservoir for the Influenza virus to transmit into
poultry and then to humans. Infected birds shed flu viruses in their saliva, nasal secretions, and feces
(CDC, 2004). The current virus seen in Asia is denoted as H5N1 and was first seen in terns in South
Africa in 1961 (CDC, 2004). The first human seen infection of the avian H5N1 viruses was in 1997 in
Hong Kong in a three year old boy (Ruben, 2005). The outbreak involved 18 cases and killed 6, one
third of the confirmed infected population (Rueben, 2005). In three days 1.5 million birds were killed
in order to prevent further spread. A new pandemic is now on the horizon with recent outbreaks in
poultry in the eight Asian countries of Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, South Korea,
Thailand, and Vietnam since 2004 (CDC, 2005). As of July 5, 2005, there have been 108 reported

Overpopulation Is Still The Problem
In the article Overpopulation Is Still the Problem, Alon Tal (2013) claims that overpopulation remains
the number one problem facing the world today and discusses various problems and possible
solutions. Tal unveils the falsely assuring news stories refuting overpopulation as a problem. He
particularly dissects Ellis Erle s assertions, in the New York Times, concerning China s seemingly
magical works of technology. Erle comes to the conclusion that China s amazing technology has and
will always be able to keep them out of any problems regarding overpopulation. Of course Tal is able
to rhythmically rebut Erle s claims by explaining that, Anyone with a teaspoon of historic sensibilities
about the country s environmental history might want to mention its long litany of famines which
occurred precisely because carrying capacities were consistently outstripped by a growing population .
Tal then goes on to explain other problems linked directly to overpopulation in China like the food
crisis from 1958 1961 which led to the starvation of over 20 million people. He also discusses the
Chinese one child policy describing it as tough medicine although the application of the policy was
flawed he depicts how it has prevented the next round of famines. Tal ties the China population
problems into the rest of the article which is mainly about how quickly the world is growing and what
we need to do about it. He presents distressing facts like 1 in 8 people in the world suffer from

Mathematics Has Become A Part Of Our Life
ABSTRACT: Mathematics has become part of our life. Graph Theory is a branch of mathematics that
plays a major role in every field of human being. In this paper we define different matrices associated
with the Graphs along with some properties of a graph. And Rank of rank of an incidence matrix. Key
Words: Adjacency matrix, Incidence matrix, Degree matrix, Circuit matrix and Line graph.
INTRODUCTION: Incidence Matrix is one of methods of representing the graph. Let G = (V,E) be
graph whose vertices and edges are labeled as v_1,v_2,........v_n and e_1,e_2,........e_m. An incidence
matrix B associated with graph G of order n×m is defined by b_ij={█(1 if v_i is incident with e_j@0
Otherwise )┤ [4] The graph and its incidence matrix are shown as follows: The incidence matrix
contains only two elements 0 and 1. Such a matrix is called a binary matrix or (0 1) matrix. For a
given any geometric representation of a graph without self loops we can easily write its corresponding
incidence matrix. On the other hand if we were given an incidence matrix B we can construct a graph
without any difficulty. The graph and its incidence matrix are simply two alternative ways of
representing the same graph. [1] PROPERTIES: Some observations of incidence matrix and it s graph.

The Help Is an American novel that represents an era of civil rights, written by the point of view of a
white educated southern woman, in a very different time period of what the book is set in. The Help
takes place during the 1960 s in Jackson, Mississippi. This novel tells a story about the relationships

Mississippi but the greater part of the south, African American women were the nannies and maids to
white families for generations and dealt with racism in order to earn an income for their own families.

The second is immobilization and self protection, driven by fear or panic. The next is you can t make

hesitation. These behaviors prevent people from taking action. Instead, they hold back or complain as
others initiate new action. The result is that a needed change effort is derailed. The first step is not to
create a vision. This is especially true if your organization is in crisis, if alligators are nipping at your

Almost Lover by A Fine Frenzy Essay
Almost Lover Many songs have deeper meanings then what we truly think. Its important to really take
time out of the day, and sit down to dissect the song to find its true meaning, or maybe even its
multiple different meanings, that have been hidden away. The song Almost Lover, by A Fine Frenzy, is
one of the songs that could have multiple different meanings behind it. The female singer of A Fine
Frenzy, is named Alison Sudol. Alison Sudol is from Seattle, Washington. She was born December 23,

When she states that he told her he wasn t ever going to forget about what they had been through, or
their memories together. Then throughout the chorus of the song she repeatedly tells him goodbye. It
raises the two big questions, one of which is where did her almost lover go? Did he simply leave her
for someone new? Maybe he passed away, and she is still broken hearted about it. Its difficult to know
for sure, but in part of the song, Alison sings about how her almost lover used to sing her Spanish
lullabies. This could mean a few different things, one of which could be that he is Spaniard, and has
left her to go back home to live with his family again. Although it could just simply mean that he is
just bilingual, but the thought of him being bilingual raised other questions to me. Such as why is he
bilingual if his didn t grow up in a Spanish house hold? Did he learn the other language for a specific
reason? I realized that the answer to this question was the same answer to the second extremely big
question that came to mind when I realized that he didn t want to leave her either. This other question
that came to mind when dissecting this song was, why did the almost lover have to leave? If he never
truly wanted to leave her. Looking a bit more into the other two facts that were covered earlier. One of
which was that he was bilingual, and the other was that she can t look at the ocean without thinking

Deaf Art Deaf art is more than just a painting or drawing. So, what exactly is Deaf art? Deaf art is
something that can bring together the Deaf Community. The feelings that the Deaf experience are now
brought onto a canvas. Art plays a huge role in the Deaf community. After all, the Deaf are thought of
as the best visual people. Deaf artists bring their Deaf pride and pour their hearts out into their art
works. They are great role models to the people in their community. The first Deaf artists from
America started in the 1760 s through the early 1800 s. Most of these artists painted portraits of
American settlers in wanting to be recognized. There were no art museums or schools, so they taught
themselves. These artists tried making their living by painting portraits for the wealthy people. Their
artworks were not much different from the hearing world s artwork at the time since there was not a
Deaf culture that was developed yet. Most Deaf artists did not even know of another Deaf person at
that time. The more American developed, the more Deaf schools were being established. Artists
started to study art in France and Europe. Many of their arts reflected European styles because of this.
As more Deaf schools established, many Deaf communities formed a Deaf culture and emerged. The
artists in the communities made their artworks reflecting their lifestyle and surroundings. Deaf art is
now well known within the Deaf culture. Many Deaf artists use their life experiences

Analysis Of The Film Sankofa
For people of African descent, both in America and abroad, the questions and facts of enslavement in
the New World carry heavy questions of blame, assessment, wonder, and humiliation. For
contemporary citizens of the Americas, those diasporic questions are borne of race, morality,
disenfranchisement, and economic enforcement, raising larger questions centered in shared cultural
experience. Conspicuously, if film, as art, is to be looked at as a cultural artifact, then black
independent film and the recounting of black lived experiences can be seen as artistic markers of
racial progress, evidenced identity, and the claim to self definition, leading to questions centered on
the ways in which meaning is made of cultural experience as it is represented and shared.
It is to these questions that the film Sankofa (Gerima, 1994) addresses itself. Sankofa is not simply a
slave movie in the Hollywood sense of films like Amistad (Spielberg, 1997), Django Unchained
(Tarrantino, 2012), 12 Years a Slave (McQueen, 2013), Band of Angels Walsh (1957), or Gone With
the Wind (Fleming, 1939). Unlike these films, Sankofa stands outside of Hollywood standards by
demonstrating itself to be a black film as defined by film philosopher Tommy L. Lott: ...
(F)undamentally concerned with issues that currently define the political struggle for black people...
(Sankofa) incorporates a plurality of political values that are consistent with the fate and destiny of
black people as a group engaged in a

time at sea making difficult to study their behavioural tendencies. Rarely interact with one another

migration, little behavioural exchange among individuals. Their typical daily routine includes feeding

at the surface while in deep water or on the bottom wedged between rocks or under ledges in reefs.
Courtship Mating: Mating is believed to occur during a limited receptive period prior to the females
first nesting emergence. During mating season, males may court a female by nuzzling her head or by
gently biting the back of her neck and rear flippers. If the female does not flea, the male attaches
himself to the back of the females shell by gripping her top shell with the claws in his front flippers.
He then folds his long tail under her shell to copulate. Copulatoon can take place either on the surface

The Tyger Poem Analysis
This poem dramatizes the conflict between the divine perspective and the speaker s terrified human
and morally affronted perspective. The theme of The Tyger is creation and the ability of divine figure
to create evil. The poem mainly focuses on the beauty and ferociousness of creation in general and
how we think we see the whole story. William Blake wrote this piece in the voice of a witness that
watched the making of the so called Tyger and what it has become. This witness describes to the
audience which is directed to society of what he/she sees in order to open their eyes to see the bigger
picture. The poem is written in a rhythm of both trochaic and iambic meter where the author purposely
changes the last line of each stanza in order to make that specific line stand out the most for the
audience to notice. The Tyger is composed of six stanzas, each containing four lines, and is written
with an AABB rhyme scheme. Many of the sentences are written as interrogative sentences as Blake
asks several rhetorical questions. Also, the first and last stanzas are almost identical, with the
exception of a single word, which emphasizes this text and at the end forces the reader to reevaluate
these words after reading the rest of the poem. The author uses words such as fearful, dread, and
deadly to draw an image for the reader that the creature is a beast capable of destruction. The first 2
lines begin with the repetition of the character ( Tyger, Tyger ). The repetition creates a chant like
mood to the whole poem, which contributes to the mysteriousness. It quotes burning bright (1) which
is an example of alliteration. This piece may describe the appearance of the Tyger as tigers have fiery
orange fur, or it may on a deeper analyzation describe a kind of energy or power that this Tyger
possesses. The Tyger s presence in the forests of the night (2) further increases the mystery and power
of the creature it s mysterious, while at the same time burning with some sort of inner force. The
speaker uses the symbolic character of a tiger as something so fearsome yet very beautiful. William
Blake is building on the idea that nature, like a work of art, can in some way contain a reflection of its

Dentist Application Essay
As a second time applicant, I have gained experience working in both general dentistry and in
specialty dental practices. Working part time alongside a general dentist gave me the opportunity to do
dental charting, prepare instruments, and provide instructions and advice on brushing and flossing
techniques to patients. I have since developed a habit of taking detailed notes and drawings of the
surgery in my own journal to reinforce my learning. At the office, I noticed that a lot of patients walk
into the office with pain that even interrupts their daily lives. In many of the cases, the handiwork of a
dentist provided the patients immediate help by relieving them from pain. My observations and
experiences working in a dental office have taught me these rewarding moments, which have
solidified my goal to become a dentist.
Furthermore, I explored many specialty practices, such as oral surgery, periodontics, and endodontics,
which allowed me to observe many different courses of treatment. Luckily, this shadowing
opportunity opened the door to a position working at Berkeley Orinda Oral Surgery. Because this was
an office with four oral surgeons and more than 25 staff members and surgical assistants, ... Show

Program and a dental service trip to Panama, which gave me better insight into the realities of public
health inside and outside the United States. While spending my time in Panama, I gained a true
appreciation for dentistry as a profession whose work is not limited to in office care, but one that
allows to reach out to the greater public. The help that I could provide to those communities were
limited without professional skills, but I would like to go back and help in the most needed regions in
the world after achieving my professional goal to become a skilled clinician in dental

Social And Cultural Factors Of Society And Culture
Society and culture play an important role in affecting the health and well being of individuals or a
community. The social and cultural factors that determine the health in a society or a culture are
income, education, social wealth, occupation, societal support, community structure, accessibility of
health services, structural inequality, attitude, cultural beliefs, and legal channels. These factors are
linked to produce a disproportionate burden or risk of death, disease, disability and ill health on a
particular population or group known as health disparities. Health disparities are induced through a
process known as social stratification, which is when individuals in a society are divided into
subgroups base on attributes that are considered important by society such as sex, income, race, and
education. Stratification is responsible for formalizing inequality in the way of unequal access to
valuable resources, such as education, health care, dental care, and housing. The United States is a
country that values good dental health but not everybody have access to oral health care in reasonable
way because of social disparities and social stratification. However, since the Surgeon General
highlighted oral health as a major component of general health and well being, there have been many
initiatives taken by the government bodies, the private sector, and community organizations to help
lessen or eliminate social disparities, and make sure dental care is provided to all

The Importance Of Happiness In Literature
Humankind, regardless of geography, gender, sexual orientation, religion, race, education or economic
status all come to down to one thing within everyone, which is happiness. Through literature that
authors provide insight, comfort, and oftentimes advice to help us cope with our humanity. In
literature, it illustrates all the human conditions that we humans face. We are so fond of some
literature because we can relate to the human condition even though we may not know it sometimes.
Through a few literatures I am going to link the human condition, Happiness , and connect it to our
society to see where that relativeness comes in.
Happiness is usually the human condition, we struggle to understand. In the poem, Who understands

She is in envy of her sister is because she compares herself to her. She s looking at the positive of her
sister and the negatives of herself. Maggie hasn t accepted her scars that is why she is not happy with
herself. Often times people today compare themselves to other people and they find it hard to accept
themselves. Another thing it says I did something I never had done before: hugged Maggie to me, then
dragged her on into the room, snatched the quilts out of Miss Wangero s hands and dumped them into
Maggie s lap. (Walker L84) and then Maggie smiled; maybe at the sunglasses. But a real smile, not
scared. (Alice Walker) Affection wasn t apart of Maggie and her mom s relationship. No affection
could lead Maggie to think that she s not loved. How could she accept herself if no one else accepted
her? That reassurance her mom gave her was a relief that she was loved and accepted. In this story
Maggie learned to accept herself with the help of her mom, she then was able to smile. Acceptance is
the key to happiness.

April By Edna St. Vincent Millay Analysis
In the poem Spring by Edna St. Vincent Millay, the speaker questions the return of the month
April. They are dissatisfied with the renewal of life and question the reason for this renewals
occurrence. As well, the speaker contemplates reason of life and states that it is not enough that life
merely occurs. In addition to that, I believe that the poet also is trying to convey that it is not enough
to let ones life merely move one day to day, one must be motivated is make their life theirs by
taking control and filling their life with what they want. As well, while reading this poem, I felt
enlightened. It put me in a philosophical mood. However, the poets tone was quite critical and full
of discontent, as if something was irking them. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The redness symbolized life because red is associated with life. The next usage of symbolism was
in the seventh line. The spikes of the crocus referred to a flower called the crocus. The crocus was
often the first of the spring flowers to bloom so it is a symbol of the return or rebirth of life in spring.
The spikes (of the crocus) represent the pains of rebirth. This would be especially fitting since the
line before said The sun is hot on my neck as I observe. With both lines combined, this could be
interpreted as the poet observing the pains of life. Later in the poem, in line eleven, under ground
are the brains of men symbolizes the downfall of human knowledge since the brain is associated
with intelligence and underground can be taken literally as lower that dirt. Hence, this can be
translated into the statement: Not only is mans intelligence lower than dirt. The poet, in my
opinion, is stating that today, men are no longer knowledgeable. And then the line after that, the
twelfth line, Eaten by maggots. further emphasizes this. Finally, at the end of the poem in lines

  • 2. What Is Nancy Mairs Cripple In the excerpt Disable (1992) , Nancy Mairs claims that she prefers to be described as a cripple as opposed to the more accepted terms disabled or handicapped. Mairs states, I am a cripple. I choose this word to name me. I choose from among several possibilities, the most common of which are handicapped and disabled . In order to allow the audience to understand her viewpoint, Mairs utilizes repetition by consistently using the term cripple , denotation using the words handicapped and disabled, and has a blunt tone. Maris is targeting the everyday American, whether the individual contains a disability or not. Throughout the excerpt, Mairs emphasizes that cripple is the most appropriate and honest term to use, and continuously utilizes the term. For example, from lines 1 through 20, cripple is used in four instances to support her point of view. In Line 1, Mairs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Mairs describes in the excerpt, I would never refer to another person as a cripple. It is the word I use to name only myself. In Maris opinion, society cannot even begin to accept people who have physical or even mental disorders; she states, society is no readier to accept crippledness than to accept death, war, sweat, or wrinkles. Furthermore, Mairs explains why she prefers the term cripple stating that, ...to be fair to myself, a certain amount of honesty underlies my choice. Cripple seems to me a clean word, straightforward and precise. It has an honorable history, having made its first appearance in the Lindisfarne Gospel in the tenth century. As a lover of words, I like the accuracy with which it describes my condition: I have lost the full use of my limbs. Disabled, by contrast, suggests any incapacity, physical or mental. Their mission was part of an international peacekeeping and humanitarian effort to stabilize the areas estimated 4.5 million starving population. The seventh attempt by these Soldiers, to capture this warlord, named Muhammed Farah Aydid, is the subject of this paper and known as the Battle of Mogadishu, occurring on October 3 4, 1993 (Encyclopedia Britannica, Somalia Intervention ). The process of time, leadership resolution, and the changing battlefield have produced relevant and elaborative primary and secondary sources on this event. The enemy used the innocent local population to his advantage. By this, I mean he used women as shields as he fired upon U.S. Forces, armed children, and deception methods such as pretending to be an innocent but in close proximity to the smoking gun (Tomasso, 5, 12). Safety has been an ongoing and seemingly uncontrollable opponent of the Army. Arguably, faulty Washington level coordination caused the failures related to this mission, While better policy coordination from the Secretary of Defense down to TFR [Task Force Ranger] could have prevented the 3 October 1993 raid from occurring, TFR did have all the means in Mogadishu to successfully accomplish the mission. However, overconfidence in TFR s capabilities and underestimation of the enemy s ability to find and attack TFR vulnerabilities were critical failures that led to a series of other failures (Sangvic, 1998). I believe lack of knowledge, inexperience, and a technology gap were the causes of the aforementioned planning issues. Effects of the ill decision making were enormous. The hanger received indirect fire from the enemy resulting in the wounding of several helicopter crew chiefs. Soldiers met confusion when navigating the rules of engagement (Tomasso, 5, 12 13). • 4. Nietzsche Overcoming Nihilism Analysis Friedrich Nietzsche: Overcoming Nihilism The understanding of Friedrich Nietzsche s argument suggests that we can overcome nihilism. Nihilism suggests that all values are untrue and nothing is justifiable, and Nietzsche believes one can overcome it by revaluating our values (Nietzsche et al. 1887). From the following quote, I understand that Nietzsche has two main arguments, one of which is a cultural debunking argument which refers to a social selection and the other is a consequence based argument which is the bad consequences of us subscribing to the slave morality. Considering these two arguments, Nietzsche notions that by devaluating our values, one could start seeking power and answers. One final argument Nietzsche mentions is that we are all incomplete nihilists and we need to become complete nihilists by creating our own values. All in all, Nietzsche claims that cultural debunking arguments, consequence based arguments and devaluating our values will help one overcome nihilism. Firstly, by culturally debunking theories, Nietzsche believes we can find meaning in something that is not already there. Nihilism states that existence has no aim , unity or truth to it, making life valueless as a result (1888). Nietzsche states that we have to put meaning into this fictitious world and by doing so, we can deposit a true world beyond the world we re familiar with. In premise one of the cultural debunking argument, Nietzsche states that society has a concern with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. What Is A Role Model When you think of a role model, who comes to mind? Many would say an actor, singer, athlete, etc. My role model is my sister, Natasha Hobley. For those who don t know Natasha personally, they probably wouldn t understand why she is a role model to me. However, I find her to be a role model for many reasons. Not only is Natasha strong, fearless, and independent, but she is the most loving person I have ever met. Regardless of the trials that have been thrown at her, she always comes out on top, and stronger than before. Natasha has unfortunately lost loved ones in her life, but still manages to find happiness in the darkest situations. Despite battling mental and emotional battles, my sister continues to find the best in situations, and always uplifts others. Ever since I was a child, I remember looking up to her and always wanting to be just like her. Natasha Hobley is my role model. My sister Natasha is one of the most amazing and loving people I have ever met. Some of my earliest memories are of her taking care of my two other sisters and me. I remember always going places with her and her friends, and her loving bringing me places. There was no greater feeling than getting to go places with my big sister and her friends, that I thought were so cool! In January of 2017, my dad s brother passed away. • 9. Betrayal In Poetry Essay Carol Ann Duffy and William Blake both explore aspects of betrayal, but from different perspectives. While Duffy explores the betrayal of a single person, Blake explores the type of betrayal that corrupts and oppresses a society as a whole from the point of view of an outsider. Carol Ann Duffy presents the sense of betrayal in her poem Havisham in many ways. She successfully presents this theme in the first line of stanza one: Beloved sweetheart bastard. Not a day since then I haven t wished him dead. The oxymoronic juxtaposition of sweetheart and bastard in the first line presents a vivid picture of personal betrayal, as the sarcastic tone is suggested in the positive sweetheart , which immediately turns into anger as the speaker calls the man a bastard. By stabbing the cake, it symbolises the death of her marriage, through the betrayal of her partner, by being left at the altar. Lastly, Duffy presents the theme of betrayal by the use of enjambment at the end of the poem. Love s Hate behind a white vail, Love s hate stands out the most to the audience because of the contrast between the two words, of being positive and negative at the same time. Thus causing the audience to feel confused with the speaker at the events that are unfolding within the poem. The enjambment within the line suggests how separate the two emotions are for the speaker as she battles with the contrast of emotions inside of her. Linking to the oxymoron of Love s hate , this conveys the sense of confusion in her thought waves as she battles between love and hate after her ex fiancé betrayed her by leaving her on her wedding ... On page 39 the magical realism of accentuated detail begins, The moment they took their first bite of the cake, everyone was flooded with a great wave of longing. The people eating the cake felt Tita s longing for the wedding, but that s not the pinnacle of the detail. The greatest moment of magical realism is on the next page, She struggled to control her nausea, but it was too much for her! Her only concern was to keep her wedding dress from being fouled by the degradations of her relatives and friends; but as she crossed the patio she slipped and every inch of her dress ended up coated with vomit. She was swept away in a raging rotting river for several yards; she couldn t hold back anymore, and she spewed out great noisy mouthfuls of vomit, like an erupting volcano, right before Pedro s horrified eyes. Mobile Technology Is A Major Leader Essay Mobile technology is a major leader in information technology and provides opportunities for innovation, agility and flexibility in the workplace ( GOVERNMENT USE OF MOBILE TECHNOLOGY , 2012). This fast growing field provides new innovation, agility, flexibility in the workplace while driving the future of our end user computing platform ( GOVERNMENT USE OF MOBILE TECHNOLOGY , 2012). The Obama administration recently ordered all federal agencies to begin making at least two apps as part of its digital government plan (Breeden II, 2012). With this mandate some agencies are already ahead of the power curve having apps hit the market already while still developing new apps, but one of the things that government agencies will have to adjust is the level of their apps as they are considered primitive compared to the private sector apps. Also to note is that government apps are linked to stored information which makes most of them simple databases. The NASA app was one of the first agencies to have an app go public and has been available since 2010. This app shows pictures of the universe and it shows it in high definition. The Ask Karen app was launched by the Agriculture Department and is a friendly app that can answer all questions pertaining to food for example, how long food can last in a power failure or if you want to know if a restaurant cooked your fish correctly (Breeden II, 2012). Barker was harmed on December 4, 2006 by the individuals from the Jena Six, and got treatment at a crisis room. While the case was pending, it was regularly refered to by a few media reporters as a sample of racial treachery in the United States. A few analysts trusted that the litigants had been accused at first of as well genuine offenses and had been dealt with unjustifiably. Various occasions had occurred in and around Jena in the months prior to the Barker ambush, which the media have connected with a claimed acceleration of nearby racial strains. These occasions incorporated the hanging of rope nooses from a tree in the secondary school patio, two brutal showdowns in the middle of white and black young people, and the decimation by flame of the fundamental working of Jena High School. This is something that is later on considered to be normal because Gandalf comes and goes throughout the duration of the trip. All through the quest Bilbo ends up saving the party from many dangerous situations. This is something that at first Bilbo finds hard to believe because he has very low self esteem. The group always seems to find themselves in worse, and worse problems, but they always overcome these problems, with the help of Bilbo and some times Gandalf. Some of these problems include: getting caught by trolls, getting captured by goblins, being attacked by large wolves called Wargs, one of the dwarves falls into a coma from touching black water in the Mirkwood Forest, nearly dying of starvation, being captured by large spiders and being captured by wood elves. Although this is all very good action, the real action begins when the party finally reaches their destination Lonely Mountain (home of Smaug). • 17. Neutrality In My Brother Sam Is Dead The American Revolution was a war of principles fought by Loyalists and Patriots. However, Loyalists believed in neutrality, peace, and no brutality or treason. Therefore, Patriots believed in freedom of religion, the right to bear arms, and the right to break away from the British government. In the novel My Brother Sam is Dead created by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier, a family disputes over which side is right. James and Christopher Collier use the ironies of Life, Jerry, and Sam s death to induce Tim s decision of neutrality. Firstly, Life s death contributes to Tim s reasons to be neutral. For an instance, Tim finds out that father was taken by cowboys on the way back from Verplanks Point. In June of that year, 1777, we found out that father was dead. ...it wasn t a Rebel prison, ship it was a British one (164). Tim expects father would die because the cowboys had already attacked him for cattle and he was a Loyalist. Tim discovers that loyalty is valued in the British side. He thinks that why should he be loyal to a side that s dishonest. Tim chooses neutrality because the Loyalists are deceptive, brutal, and aren t true to their word. TB is more likely to develop if you have HIV/AIDS, are an alcoholic, abuse drugs, or live in damp, overcrowded conditions. People with weaker immune systems, are also more susceptible. How to avoid the spread of the disease A vaccine containing a weakened version of the bacterium has been produced, called Bacille Calmet Guerin (BCG) to prevent the spread of TB. This is often given to people aged 16 35 and those more likely to catch the disease, i.e. people travelling to, and staying in, countries where the infection is more likely to occur, healthcare practitioners, homeless shelter workers and immigrant hostel workers. Whilst working with an active TB patient, the spread of this disease can be easily avoided by washing hands, before and after a task is completed, wearing the appropriate P.P.E. (personal protective equipment), and making sure it is clean, never using needles more than once, and correctly disposing of them. Surfaces should be wiped down with disinfectant, before and after use, and all equipment must be sterile, to prevent cross contamination and there are procedures you should always follow to keep both yourself and your patient safe. • 20. Hydraulic Fracture Case Study In grid based models, the fracture is propagated through a fixed grid. This idea was used in early 2D hydraulic fracture simulators (Settari 1980) where when the stress normal to the fracture plane exceeded the tensile strength, the fracture extended into a new grid cell. Therefore, grid based models were suitable for coupling with reservoir simulators and geomechanics codes (Ji, Settari, and Sullivan 2009). 3D grid based models were extended to deal with multiple fractures, for example, the MultiFrac Placement Pseudo 3D (MLF P3D) model (Dontsov and Peirce 2015). (2010), considers the effect of natural fractures, stress distribution, and influence of the mechanical properties of fracture morphology (Cipolla et al. 2010). The UFM model can simulate the propagation of asymmetric fracture networks accounting for fluid flow in the fracture network and elastic deformation of the fractures. The initial assumptions and governing equations (fluid flow in the fracture network, mass conservation and fracture deformation) are similar to the conventional P3D model (Weng 2015). Passey et al. (2010) claimed that there is a large variability in lithology between shale plays and even within a single shale formation (Passey et al. 2010). Britt and Smith (2009) emphasized the importance of geomechanics and the state of stress of a shale play for a successful hydraulic fracturing stimulation (Britt and Smith 2009). In addition, Rickman et al. (2008) stressed that the mechanical rock properties, such as brittleness and mineralogy, are fundamental in completion designs. While ductile shale tend to restore any fracture formed, brittle shale often have natural fractures which react to hydraulic fracturing (Rickman et al. 2008). Diabetes can impair blood flow to your feet and cause nerve damage (Castro 180). High blood sugar can injure nerve fibers throughout your body, but diabetic neuropathy most often damages nerves in legs and feet. Enigmatically, recent reports have described that long term tight glycemic control may be major risk factor for the development of diabetic neuropathy (Zhang, et al. 1). Diabetic neuropathy can also affects the eyes, retinopathy, increasing the risk for glaucoma and blindness. Physicians recommend eye exams every six months to one year. The eyes must be checked often as vision can deteriorate quickly in patients with diabetes. A person with diabetes may not be aware of a wound or injury to their foot due to a decreased sensation in their feet, a condition called diabetic neuropathy. Therefore, great care must be taken to inspect the feet everyday. Neuropathy is a chronic condition, which will get worst over the time. Been diagnosed with neuropathy can change a patients life; this can turn into a chronic disease that will be treated with adequate medication, maintaining low blood sugars, doing self examinations of the feet to prevent any further complications and visiting the physician as directed to do routine check ups. From this preparation, the individual can then appreciate the level of clinical supervision that will be required post graduation to support professional development and direct of job applications appropriately towards either the NHS or private sector. One model of self analysis that an individual can use is the four stages of competency. These four stages allow a person to identify the level currently at in relation to a specific skill and then over time chart the course of the development of the skills from incompetence to competence (Getha Taylor, Hummert, Nalbandian and Silvia, 2013). The result is that a needed change effort is derailed. The first step is not to create a vision. This is especially true if your organization is in crisis, if alligators are nipping at your feet. If they stand on a burning platform, they have no choice but to take immediate action, to jump away from their comfortable positions. Assembling a team to discuss the organization s new vision won t be very successful, because team members will be worried more about self preservation than the new vision. Its important to really take time out of the day, and sit down to dissect the song to find its true meaning, or maybe even its multiple different meanings, that have been hidden away. The song Almost Lover, by A Fine Frenzy, is one of the songs that could have multiple different meanings behind it. The female singer of A Fine Frenzy, is named Alison Sudol. Alison Sudol is from Seattle, Washington. She was born December 23, 1984. She sings mainly Indie songs, and also stars in a few movies. Then throughout the chorus of the song she repeatedly tells him goodbye. It raises the two big questions, one of which is where did her almost lover go? Did he simply leave her for someone new? Maybe he passed away, and she is still broken hearted about it. Its difficult to know for sure, but in part of the song, Alison sings about how her almost lover used to sing her Spanish lullabies. This could mean a few different things, one of which could be that he is Spaniard, and has left her to go back home to live with his family again. Although it could just simply mean that he is just bilingual, but the thought of him being bilingual raised other questions to me. Such as why is he bilingual if his didn t grow up in a Spanish house hold? Did he learn the other language for a specific reason? I realized that the answer to this question was the same answer to the second extremely big question that came to mind when I realized that he didn t want to leave her either. This other question that came to mind when dissecting this song was, why did the almost lover have to leave? If he never truly wanted to leave her. Deaf art is something that can bring together the Deaf Community. The feelings that the Deaf experience are now brought onto a canvas. Art plays a huge role in the Deaf community. After all, the Deaf are thought of as the best visual people. Deaf artists bring their Deaf pride and pour their hearts out into their art works. They are great role models to the people in their community. The first Deaf artists from America started in the 1760 s through the early 1800 s. Most of these artists painted portraits of American settlers in wanting to be recognized. There were no art museums or schools, so they taught themselves. These artists tried making their living by painting portraits for the wealthy people. Their artworks were not much different from the hearing world s artwork at the time since there was not a Deaf culture that was developed yet. Most Deaf artists did not even know of another Deaf person at that time. The more American developed, the more Deaf schools were being established. Artists started to study art in France and Europe. Many of their arts reflected European styles because of this. As more Deaf schools established, many Deaf communities formed a Deaf culture and emerged. The artists in the communities made their artworks reflecting their lifestyle and surroundings. Deaf art is now well known within the Deaf culture. Many Deaf artists use their life experiences ... • 40. Analysis Of The Film Sankofa For people of African descent, both in America and abroad, the questions and facts of enslavement in the New World carry heavy questions of blame, assessment, wonder, and humiliation. For contemporary citizens of the Americas, those diasporic questions are borne of race, morality, disenfranchisement, and economic enforcement, raising larger questions centered in shared cultural experience. Conspicuously, if film, as art, is to be looked at as a cultural artifact, then black independent film and the recounting of black lived experiences can be seen as artistic markers of racial progress, evidenced identity, and the claim to self definition, leading to questions centered on the ways in which meaning is made of cultural experience as it is represented and shared. It is to these questions that the film Sankofa (Gerima, 1994) addresses itself. Sankofa is not simply a slave movie in the Hollywood sense of films like Amistad (Spielberg, 1997), Django Unchained (Tarrantino, 2012), 12 Years a Slave (McQueen, 2013), Band of Angels Walsh (1957), or Gone With the Wind (Fleming, 1939). Unlike these films, Sankofa stands outside of Hollywood standards by demonstrating itself to be a black film as defined by film philosopher Tommy L. Lott: ... • 42. The Tyger Poem Analysis This poem dramatizes the conflict between the divine perspective and the speaker s terrified human and morally affronted perspective. The theme of The Tyger is creation and the ability of divine figure to create evil. The poem mainly focuses on the beauty and ferociousness of creation in general and how we think we see the whole story. William Blake wrote this piece in the voice of a witness that watched the making of the so called Tyger and what it has become. This witness describes to the audience which is directed to society of what he/she sees in order to open their eyes to see the bigger picture. The poem is written in a rhythm of both trochaic and iambic meter where the author purposely changes the last line of each stanza in order to make that specific line stand out the most for the audience to notice. The Tyger is composed of six stanzas, each containing four lines, and is written with an AABB rhyme scheme. Many of the sentences are written as interrogative sentences as Blake asks several rhetorical questions. Also, the first and last stanzas are almost identical, with the exception of a single word, which emphasizes this text and at the end forces the reader to reevaluate these words after reading the rest of the poem. The author uses words such as fearful, dread, and deadly to draw an image for the reader that the creature is a beast capable of destruction. The first 2 lines begin with the repetition of the character ( Tyger, Tyger ). The repetition creates a chant like mood to the whole poem, which contributes to the mysteriousness. It quotes burning bright (1) which is an example of alliteration. This piece may describe the appearance of the Tyger as tigers have fiery orange fur, or it may on a deeper analyzation describe a kind of energy or power that this Tyger possesses. The Tyger s presence in the forests of the night (2) further increases the mystery and power of the creature it s mysterious, while at the same time burning with some sort of inner force. The speaker uses the symbolic character of a tiger as something so fearsome yet very beautiful. William Blake is building on the idea that nature, like a work of art, can in some way contain a reflection of its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Working part time alongside a general dentist gave me the opportunity to do dental charting, prepare instruments, and provide instructions and advice on brushing and flossing techniques to patients. I have since developed a habit of taking detailed notes and drawings of the surgery in my own journal to reinforce my learning. At the office, I noticed that a lot of patients walk into the office with pain that even interrupts their daily lives. In many of the cases, the handiwork of a dentist provided the patients immediate help by relieving them from pain. My observations and experiences working in a dental office have taught me these rewarding moments, which have solidified my goal to become a dentist. Furthermore, I explored many specialty practices, such as oral surgery, periodontics, and endodontics, which allowed me to observe many different courses of treatment. Luckily, this shadowing opportunity opened the door to a position working at Berkeley Orinda Oral Surgery. • 44. Social And Cultural Factors Of Society And Culture Society and culture play an important role in affecting the health and well being of individuals or a community. The social and cultural factors that determine the health in a society or a culture are income, education, social wealth, occupation, societal support, community structure, accessibility of health services, structural inequality, attitude, cultural beliefs, and legal channels. These factors are linked to produce a disproportionate burden or risk of death, disease, disability and ill health on a particular population or group known as health disparities. Health disparities are induced through a process known as social stratification, which is when individuals in a society are divided into subgroups base on attributes that are considered important by society such as sex, income, race, and education. Stratification is responsible for formalizing inequality in the way of unequal access to valuable resources, such as education, health care, dental care, and housing. The United States is a country that values good dental health but not everybody have access to oral health care in reasonable way because of social disparities and social stratification. However, since the Surgeon General highlighted oral health as a major component of general health and well being, there have been many initiatives taken by the government bodies, the private sector, and community organizations to help lessen or eliminate social disparities, and make sure dental care is provided to all ... We are so fond of some literature because we can relate to the human condition even though we may not know it sometimes. They are dissatisfied with the renewal of life and question the reason for this renewals occurrence. As well, the speaker contemplates reason of life and states that it is not enough that life merely occurs. In addition to that, I believe that the poet also is trying to convey that it is not enough to let ones life merely move one day to day, one must be motivated is make their life theirs by taking control and filling their life with what they want. As well, while reading this poem, I felt enlightened. It put me in a philosophical mood. However, the poets tone was quite critical and full of discontent, as if something was irking them. In ... The next usage of symbolism was in the seventh line. The spikes of the crocus referred to a flower called the crocus. The crocus was often the first of the spring flowers to bloom so it is a symbol of the return or rebirth of life in spring. The spikes (of the crocus) represent the pains of rebirth. This would be especially fitting since the line before said The sun is hot on my neck as I observe. With both lines combined, this could be interpreted as the poet observing the pains of life. Later in the poem, in line eleven, under ground are the brains of men symbolizes the downfall of human knowledge since the brain is associated with intelligence and underground can be taken literally as lower that dirt. Hence, this can be translated into the statement: Not only is mans intelligence lower than dirt. The poet, in my opinion, is stating that today, men are no longer knowledgeable. And then the line after that, the twelfth line, Eaten by maggots. further emphasizes this. Finally, at the end of the poem in lines thirteen to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
