The Olympic Games Of The Olympics
The Summer Olympic Games is the leading international sporting event in which thousands of
athletes from around the world participate in a variety of competitions. According to existing historical
manuscripts, the first ancient Olympic Games were celebrated in 776 BC in Olympia. They were
dedicated to the Greek god Zeus and took place in the same place every four years. This four year
period became known as an Olympiad (International Olympic Committee, 2012). The first modern
games were held in Athens, Greece in 1896 with nine sports contested. The 2016 games will consist of
28 sports. Although the actual event may last for only a few weeks, the preparations commence up to a
decade beforehand and may entail considerable investment expenditures that can have longer term
economic significance.
In 2016, the Olympics will be held in Rio De Janeiro. When choosing the next country to host the
Olympics, Rio had one of the biggest advantages. The Olympic Games had never been held in South
America. Additionally, the International Olympic Committee understood what the power of
transformation of these games would mean to Rio, Brazil and South America. To the Olympic and
Paralympic Movements, this decision represented the opening of a new and promising frontier, and
the possibility of inspiring 65 million youths under 18 years of age in Brazil and 180 in the whole
continent.
There are many advantages of hosting the Olympic Games. First, is that the games always attract trade

Progressives Were Groups Of Reformers
Progressives were groups of reformers dedicated to improve the social and the political problems in
the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They live generally in the towns, were
well instructed professionals, and thought the government could be an instrument for the
transformation. They started a social movement that turned into a political movement. Unfortunately,
the remainder of the population was subject to law incomes, long working hours, risky industrial tools,
and unprincipled employers. Progressives believed the problems (poverty, violence, greed, racism,
class warfare) that the society faced could best be directed by offering good education, a safe
environment, and an efficient workplace. In the words of historian Howard Zinn, the Progressives
worked to stabilize the capitalist system by repairing its worst defects. 2and restore some measure of
class peace in a time of increasingly bitter clashes between capital and labor (Zinn 354). The
progressive tried to reform the United States; however, they were incapable to make significant
changes and improve the labors of the working class.
The social structure in America pushed people around because the opportunities were not equals. The
social in America was not favorable for the vast majority of tenant farmers, factory workers, slum
dwellers, miners, farm laborers, working men and women, black and white. Robert Wiebe sees in the
Progressive movement an attempt by the system to adjust to

Shakespeare s Portrayal of Henry V as the Model Monarch...
Shakespeare s Portrayal of Henry V as the Model Monarch In this essay I intend to show that
Shakespeare portrays Henry as the Classic Sovereign as he is patriotic, brave, cunning, religious,
natural leader in touch with the lower class of the country. I will use quotes and remarks in the play to
show this and present it. I shall firstly do a summery of the play and give a basic image of what it
contains, and then give a detailed analysis, which will give a more detailed view of particular scenes
to show how Shakespeare shows Henry s character and finally I shall make a conclusion to present my
evidence, to show that Henry is presented as a model monarch. The play is based around Henry V s ...

They give historical and legal reasons why his claim is valid and encourage him to go to France and
seize what is his. Some of the nobles in attendance support this view and, after making an allowance
for the threat of a Scottish offensive, Henry decides to invade France. Ambassadors from the Dauphin
deliver a rejection of his claims to territory in France as Henrys claim is through a Female, and an
insulting gift of tennis balls. The letter coming from the Dauphin is an insult in itself, as it is saying
Henry is not important enough to receive a message from the King of France. Henry sends a menacing
reply in response to this insult, saying that the Dauphin will bear responsibility for a great deal of
death and destruction. He then tells his nobles to prepare for war with France. ACT II. The Chorus
describes the excitement as the army gets ready to depart from Southampton, but he warns that there
are traitors in the English ranks. We witness a quarrel between Pistol and Nym over Nell Quickly, who
was supposed to be engaged to Nym at some point in time, but ran off with Pistol and got married to
him, both men threaten to fight and kill each other but they are both too cowardly to do anything. Also
we learn that an old drinking companion of the King, Sir John Falstaff is ill. At Southampton, King

Slavery Dbq Essay
Between 1775 and 1830, in many places African Americans gained their freedom from slavery and in
others, the institution of slavery expanded. Eventually, slavery became abundant in places where it
was most necessary and died out in the places where it was of little use. In response, most free African
Americans and enslaved African Americans took action against their maltreatment by petitions and
willingness to fight. The first trend of declining slavery was visible from the first declared
emancipation of slaves by Lord Dunmore in November of 1775. By granting freedom to all slaves
who would raise arms against the American rebels, Lord Dunmore hoped to bring more troops into his
ranks in Virginia. This movement continued following the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, however, slave labor was needed to do the backbreaking work in the hot Southern sun and
thus became more valuable than ever before. The map shows that in 1790, slaves consist of less than
10 percent of the population in most areas of the country, and as much as 50 percent in small sections
on the Southern coast. However, by 1830 most of the Northern states were areas either without any
slaves or less than 10 percent. In contrast, the majority of Southern states had a slave population
between 10 and 50 percent. This slave populous area extended along the Southern coasts as well as
deep into Kentucky and Tennessee. The changes in slave density between 1790 and 1830 directly
relate to areas were slave labor was an economic necessity. African Americans in separate situations
often shared similar opinions concerning slavery and freedom. Although many blacks, both freed and
enslaved, were willing to speak out against slavery and petition their rights, they did so in varying
degrees. In one instance, a slave politely requested that his owner grant him the right to purchase his
freedom. Another slave, Gabriel Prosser, took a more extreme approach to gaining his freedom. In
fact, he led a rebellion against the white slaveholders in 1800. Even freed African Americans were
maltreated. Both Prince Hall and Hosea Easton, Boston residents, protested the daily insults and abuse

The Moral Principle Of The Right
The moral principle of the right to die, is a way of thinking where a human being has the choice to end
their life on their own terms. The right to die, also known as physician assisted suicide, is heavily
contemplated in patients who are diagnosed as terminally ill. Being diagnosed as terminally ill may
come at any point in one s life. Once a patient is given this news it puts a greater weight on their
shoulders as now they must adjust to accommodate a new reality. Many patients fear that their near
future will consist of becoming a burden to their family members financially as well as mentally, since
they may not be able to afford the medical bills. Those who are terminally ill may worry that they are
not going to be able to control their level of pain when it worsens as their physical condition
deteriorates. With the diagnosis of a terminal disease many believe what follows will be unnecessary
suffering that is brought on by the symptoms, many of which individuals would avoid at all costs.
Currently there are only four states that have the Right to Die Law enacted; California, Oregon,
Washington, and Vermont. Within these states patients have the option of physician assisted suicide, if
their medical condition meets certain requirements to obtain this option. Terminally ill patients who
live outside of these four states do not have the option of physician assisted suicide available to them.
In this position paper I argue, that enacting a National Right to Die Law in the

The Communication Between Two Presynaptic Neurons
A synapse is a small space at the end of a neuron. The synapses purpose is to pass information from
one neuron to another. Synapses are composed of three parts; the presynaptic end that contains
neurotransmitters, the synaptic cleft between two nerve cells and the postsynaptic ending that contains
receptors.
The communication between neurons advances through a series of steps. First, the presynaptic neuron
delivers an action potential down its axon until it loses its myelin sheath and divides into many
branches called buttons or synaptic knobs. (Zillmer, 2008, p. 105) Between the two neurons is a space
called the synaptic cleft. This is the space where neurotransmitters are sent before being received by
the postsynaptic neuron.

Imperial Reform in Britian from 1815 to 1870 Essay
Imperial Reform in Britian from 1815 to 1870 The period 1815 to 1870 was characterized by radical
change in the character of the British Empire, to the extent that, by the end of the period, the empire
consisted of two distinct parts: one made up of dependent colonies, experiencing direct formal rule;
and the other made up of self governing settlement colonies. This development occurred as a result of
a series of social, political and economic reforms. In order to judge whether economic factors
dominated imperial reform during this period, an assessment of the causes and nature of reforms is
necessary. However, while imperial reform was multicausal, great weight can be given to the
argument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In turn, the abolitionist movement, consisting of humanitarian reformers, church missionaries etc
exerted political pressure on government ministers, creating a climate in government circles which led
directly to the passing of the abolition acts. Therefore, the first major imperial reform of the 19th
century, the abolition of slavery, was primarily motivated by social and political factors, rather than
merely economic ones. Nevertheless, underlying economic factors, such as the cost of the slave
system in regions experiencing economic decline, as well as the economic advantages of
industrialisation which caused the emergence of a new middle class with differing views, may have
contributed to the change. Political reforms of the period focus mainly on the development of self
government within the colonies of settlement. The granting of self government was sparked by an
armed rebellion in Canada in 1837 following the failure of the British Governor to grant greater
democracy, and the resulting emergence of an oppressed minority of French settlers of Lower Canada.
The Canadian rebellion was a catalyst for political reforms, stemming from the 1839 Durham Report
which reprimanded the British administration and called for the uniting of Upper and Lower Canada
to form a single

Jurassic Era Research Paper
The beginning of the Jurassic brought a new climate. The weather changed from arid, dry, and
seasonal to humid, hot, and stable. The weather allowed for lush jungles to flourish, and with the lush
jungles, the dinosaurs. The weather change was due to the supercontinent Pangea breaking apart. Two
new smaller supercontinents were formed, Gondwana and Laurasia. The supercontinents now had
more area that was touching the ocean. This meant the water from the ocean made the supercontinents
more humid than before. The dinosaurs thrived in this climate. New species are being discovered to
this day from the Jurassic Period due to the immense diversity amongst them. The species diversity
included three main dinosaur groups, the Sauropods, the Theropods, ... Show more content on

The main dinosaurs that died off were Sauropod dinosaurs, long necked, four legged dinosaurs, and
stegosauridae, class holding Stegosaurus. Other species that died include ammonites, similar to the
living animals called nautilus, many marine reptiles, and bivalves, relatable to modern mollusca. Not
much is known about this extinction. It is mainly linked to climate change. So far, no connection to
volcanic activity or an asteroid has been made. This extinction gave way to the Cretaceous Period. The
Cretaceous Period had a similar climate to the Jurassic, warm. The geography, however, was changed
a drastic amount from the previous period. The Earth had very high sea levels at this time due to the
lack of polar ice caps. The supercontinents Laurasia and Gondwana were breaking apart into the
continents that are the same in the present day. Although the continents were the same, they did not
yet look exactly the same. The continents will be further shaped by volcanic activity and tectonic plate
activity. The shaping of the modern era was under way. Many other animals besides dinosaurs lived
during the Cretaceous. These animals were very diverse and included pterosaurs, ancient flying

I used the following passage of J.D. Salinger s Catcher in the Rye :
And the band started playing one of those really slow songs, like Stairway to Heaven or Freebird that
probably have really great lyrics or something but the song itself just is awful just awful. Then this
real phony guy, with the hair all slicked back on the top of his head stood up with the Sax and did a
solo. I almost died. I mean, almost completely died right there. It had to be the cheesiest solo I had
ever heard. I mean he was swaying back and forth and he closed his eyes like he was really getting

down and ordered another drink and waited for something else but not old Jean. She wanted to dance

me wrong, she just didn t smell quite right. I mean girls should smell a certain way like baby powder,

Saint Teresa Of Avila Research Paper
Saint Teresa of Avila was born on March 28th, 1515 in Avila, Spain. She is the patron saint of Spain.
She is the third daughter of a large upper class family and she has twelve siblings. Her nationality is
spanish. When she was only thirteen she was put in a convent school after her mother had died in
1521. Saint Teresa of Avila was not a very educated person. When she was a child she grew deathly ill
and fell into a coma that was mistaken for death. Wax was put over eyes to keep them closed. Just
before she was about to be buried she woke up. Many people asked her what death felt like. She saw
in a vision a clear crystal castle that contained a large number of rooms or mansions. The first rooms
or mansions contained people who have been given up the sins of the world. The second mansions
contained believers that are led to seek the company of the good and to receive the sacraments often
and to pray with much warmth and light. In the third mansions or rooms we will find highly virtuous
people who are still not totally surrendered to god. In The Interior Castle she, compares contemplative

Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury Analysis
The injury I chose to write about in this week s forum is anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) sprain. You
will commonly see an ACL sprain in athletes associated with contact sports that require them come to
an abrupt stop and pivot.
The knee joint is a hinge joint that connects the femur to tibia. The anterior muscles of the quadriceps
and the posterior muscles of the hamstrings help stabilize the knee joint (Prentice Bobo Benson,
2014). The ACL consists of long rope like bands that fasten bones together to keep the knee stable.
The ACL is one of four ligaments that stabilize the knee, and it is one of the most injured ligament in
the knee. The medial and collateral ligaments run along the outside of the knee and prevent the knee
from shifting side to side, and the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments are located inside the knee
and prevent the knee from shifting forward and backward (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). All these
muscles and ligaments work together to keep our knee stabilized ... Show more content on

The ACL runs through the narrow femoral notch as it attaches the femur and tibia. The femoral notch
is the space in the knee created by the femoral condyles (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). The femoral
condyles make contact with the tibial plateau of the knee. The narrow femoral notch will decrease
with every step through normal daily activities. When the leg is hyperextended while simultaneously
pivoting space is lost and the ACL gets pinched between bones (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014).
Depending on the amount of space in the narrow femoral notch and how much forced placed on the
ACL will depend on the severity of the injury (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). ACL injuries fall in to
one of three categories. Depending on the grade of the sprain depends on what type of treatment is
needed, and how long it takes the injury to heal. Knee sprains can last up to12 months to

Colossian Epistle To The Church In Colossae
The epistle to the church in Colossae was written by Paul during his incarceration at Rome in A.D. 60.
Many years after the establishment of the church, Epaphras travels to Rome to visit Paul and bring
some good news of the Colossian congregation. But the main purpose of his visit is to request Paul s
help against the heresies that were tearing at the core of the Colossian church. Paul s letter to the
Colossians not only exhorts and cautions, but primarily focuses on the supremacy of Christ and the
power of the gospel message (Elwell and Yarbrough 301).
Paul begins his Colossians epistle by expressing his interest in the church. He had never had a chance
to visit Colossae, for this community of faith was the result of his nearby ministry in Ephesus. Paul
speaks of gratitude for the faith the Colossians have shown thus far, as we have heard of your faith in
Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints (English Standard Version, Col. 1.4). ...

false teachers, they are to understand who they are in Christ and experience the true freedom that
knowledge brings. Their sin debt has been paid by the work of Christ on the cross, and they are now
alive to God. He exhorts the Colossians to progress in faith, with the living Christ as their

Candide, By Voltaire And Optimism
Candide or Optimism is one of the works of Voltaire. This novella mainly satirizes philosophical
optimism, which is a belief that everything in the world is done for a reason, and this world was
created by a perfect God therefore, it must be perfect. The novel s protagonist, Candide and his tutor
Dr. Pangloss, think everything is for the best in this best of all possible worlds. Candide looks to Dr.
Pangloss in times of need and question. In the novel when something tragic happens Candide looks to
Pangloss to explain why the tragedy has occurred. He proved incontestably that there is no effect
without cause, and that in this best of all possible worlds, his lordship s country seat was the most
beautiful of mansions and her ladyship the best of all possible ladyships (Voltaire, 20). This idea was
supported by many enlightenment thinkers but the philosphys main influence came from the
philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz. Voltaire did not agree with this philosophy, hence, he
created a brutal satire of optimism in Candide. This is clearly demonstrated through Candide s
suffering and Dr. Pangloss s philosophical speeches throughout the novel; Voltaire also uses the true

The Machinery Of Freedom By David Friedman
In David Friedman s book, The Machinery of Freedom , he argues for anarcho capitalism, the theory
that believes the state should be abolished because it is unnecessary and a free market should be put
into place. Usually, anarcho capitalism is defended from one of two views, consequentialist or
deontologist. Friedman takes the consequentialist side believing that it is actually more desirable for
the market to provide law and protection than the state because it gives the people choice to choose
what they believe and competition will promote improvement. Deontologists, however, believe that
any initiation of force is immoral, so they would prefer a law banning the initiation of force rather than
private protection agencies. Despite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A proponent to Friedman s view would support this because consumers have better information than
voters do. It has been seen election after election that politicians will tell the public what they want to
hear in an effort to win, but during their candidacy they will not fulfill their promises. In an anarcho
capitalist society, this wouldn t happen because when people choose their protection agency they
would be able to look at the company s records of how they handle their other customers emergencies.
From this information they would be able to tell how they would be treated because companies
usually follow the same procedures for every customer. Politicians, on the other hand, often have to
face new problems so voters can only make an educated guess on what they will do next. Also, it is
often difficult to know how corrupt a politician really is behind the scenes. Therefore, the people
participate in rational ignorance because they know their vote alone won t change the result of the
election, so they don t bother to investigate deeply into each politician. Also, in an anarcho capitalist
society everybody gets to choose which laws they follow by picking protection agencies and courts
with beliefs that align with the person (Bill). An opponent to anarcho capitalism may respond

concern. He closes by saying he will go to his place and not recognize the peoples of Israel until they
earnestly seek him out.
In chapter 11 God capsulizes Israel s sins and his judgment against the people. He describes how he
chose the Israelites as His people and how he delivered them from slavery in Egypt. During this
dissertation he has a change of heart and decides he will not destroy the nation Israel even if they turn
from Him. He decides he will force Israel to repent by less destructive means.
In chapter 12 Hosea preaches the Lord s message to the Israelites. He starts by describing Israel s sins
against God and how the

Should Trade Sanctions Be Stopped Essay
SHOULD ALL TRADE SANCTIONS BE STOPPED?
To most of the world, sanctions are a mixed blessing. On the one hand, they reinforce trade rules and
promote respect for them. On the other hand, they tend to undermine the principles of free trade and
provoke a kind of trade envy (Charnovitz) in other international organizations.
Trade retaliation goes back quite a ways; we see examples of it in much of US law:
Antidumping Act of 1916, which has seen little use.(Charnovitz)
International Labor Organization, from the Treaty of Versailles 1919, which served as an international
dispute system, but no economic measures were ever recommended until 2000, against Burma.
(Charnovitz)

World leaders often decide that the most obvious alternatives to sanctions are no good military action
would be too strong and diplomatic protests too weak. Sanctions can provide a satisfying dramatic
display, but avoid the high costs of war.(Library of Economics) This isn t to say that sanctions don t
cost a thing, just that they re often less costly than the alternatives.
A second advantage to sanctions can be seen through foreign pressure to promote internal change,
assuming that the sanctioned government wants to comply with the rules, but can t because of
domestic politics.(Charnovitz) We can see in many cases that sanctions are being imposed primarily
for signaling purposes either for the benefit of allies, other third parties, or once again, their own
citizens. If the sanctions aren t carefully targeted or the costs are too high for the sanctioning country,
the intended signal may be lost.(Library of Economics)
Sanctions intended to change the behavior or government of a target country are very difficult to
design. They have to be imposed as quickly and easily as possible.(Library of Economics) By moving
too slowly, it gives the target country time to adjust by finding alternative markets, finding new allies,
and by gaining domestic support of its own policies.
Another advantage of trade sanctions is the fact that they have the power to be enacted

Marijuana Vs Marijuana Essay
Alcohol vs Marijuana: Which is more harmful to your health?
By Alfonzo Porter
Is getting drunk on alcohol worse than getting high on cannabis? This has been one of the most
debated questions throughout the majority of the 20th century until this very day. It s been nearly 85
years since the 21st Amendment to the Constitution repealed the prohibition of alcohol in the U.S. in
1933. With liquor now legal, citizens were free to indulge without restriction. This, while marijuana
continued to be classified as a schedule one drug and remained illegal nationally until the states of
Colorado and Washington legalized recreational pot in 2012. However, the hypocrisy of alcohol s
legalization decades ago did not go unnoticed.
The research into the health effects of marijuana is still in its infancy. However,
It has been demonstrated that using either alcohol or marijuana can have health consequences. They
are both intoxicants and can have long terms effects on the mind and body. It is a complex issue
because the two are difficult to compare.
Drinking too much liquor can be deadly. If your body is incapable of metabolizing alcohol as fast as it
is consumed leads to a build up of toxins in the brain that causes vital functions, needed for survival,
to shut down. Marijuana, on the other hand, has been found to increase the heart rate and blood
pressure. Yet, cannabis has not caused death as a result of overuse.
If you are on medication, alcohol might not mix well or interact with

One of the mirror is a stationary mirror and other one is a movable mirror. The beam splitter is used to
transmit half of the light and reflect half of the light. Subsequently, the transmitted light and the
reflected light strike the stationary mirror and the movable mirror. When reflected back by the mirrors,
two beams of light recombine with each other at the beam splitter.[27]
If the distances travelled by two beams are the same, it means that the distances between two mirrors
and the beam splitter are the same and the situation is defined as zero path difference (ZPD). But
imagine if the movable mirror moves away from the beam splitter, the light beam which strikes the
movable mirror will travel a longer distance than the light beam which strikes the stationary mirror.
The distance which the movable mirror is away from the ZPD is defined as the mirror displacement
and is represented by ∆. It is obvious that the extra distance travelled by the light which strikes the
movable mirror is 2∆. The extra distance is defined as the optical path difference (OPD) and is
represented by delta. Therefore, δ =

Florence Art School Research Paper
Florence requires more advanced education in the arts. I propose that a new academy be constructed in
the city with the purpose of teaching these skills to citizens from across Europe. The main concern for
this academy is the curriculum. First of all, there should be an emphasis on Humanism, because it s a
belief system growing in popularity that has been advancing the arts so far and has been restoring
Roman design elements in all mediums of art, most notably observable in architecture and
perspective. Next, I should specify the materials that will be taught. There will be a focus in
architecture, painting, metalworking, ceramics and sculpture. There will also be a language
requirement, calling for students to learn classical Latin and Greek while at the Academies, allowing
for them to read original Roman and Greek texts. This will allow them to draw inspiration for their
work. As someone who learned the secrets of Architecture by studying Ancient Roman structures and
texts, I can attest to their ingenuity and knowledge, some of which, remains undiscovered. In addition,
I propose that a library be constructed in order for students to have access to original Ancient Greek
and Ancient Roman texts and sources. Finally, some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

students to practice and perfect their skills as architects and artists like I did with my orphanage in
Florence. This will also allow students to showcase their work and therefore gain popularity and fame
before leaving. As previously mentioned, a vast library should be included on

Pan s Labyrinth And Heroic Ofelia Essay
Pan s Labyrinth and Heroic Ofelia The hero is one of the most commonly seen archetypes throughout
literature and film. While there are many different types of heroes, there are particular characteristics
that identify a character as a hero. These characteristics are largely not in regards to who the hero is:
personality traits, beliefs, or values rather, these attributes concern the hero s journey and the actions
the hero takes while on that journey. In Guillermo Del Toro s film, Pan s Labyrinth, Ofelia is an
archetypal hero because she is born into royalty, leaves her family and land, goes on an adventure,
receives supernatural help, proves herself many times, and is rewarded spiritually when she dies. The
first indication that Ofelia is a heroic character is that she is born into royalty and then leaves her
family and land. According to Bryan Davis, two characteristics of an archetypal hero are that their
birth occurs under unusual circumstances such as being born into royalty and that the hero leaves their
family and land, and goes to live with someone else (Davis). At the beginning of Pan s Labyrinth, the
narrator tells a story about a princess who dreamt of the human world. The princess escaped from her
family and went to the human world, where she was blinded by the sun and her memory was erased.
The story continues to state that the princess eventually died in the human world, but her father (king
of the underworld) believed that her soul would one day return

How Did The Wright Brothers Change The World
How the First Flight by The Wright Brothers Changed the World How did the first flight made by the
Wright brothers change the world? Few inventions have changed the world as dramatically as the
Wright brothers did, with their creation of the first aircraft. With the construction of an artifact capable
of flying just for a few seconds, the Wright brothers began a new era; the era of the aviation around
the world, thus the era that would revolutionary change people s lives. In fact, the repercussion of the
first flight into the world of aviation has mainly brought benefits to mankind such as: its use in
airlines, in the military, and as utility in general. One of the most important effects that occurred
because of the development of what the Wright brothers started many years ago, is known today as
Civil Aviation. Civil Aviation, has allowed people to easily expand their lives into the world. Domestic
and international tourism increased dramatically after its invention because quicker means of transport
enabled people to arrive to their final destinations much faster than before. Also, throughout its
development, job opportunities have increased with the emerge of new airports and airlines. Now that

The Problem Of Drugs And Drug Abuse In Israel
America is not the only country in the world that struggles with drug abuse; Israel has similar
problems. It wasn t until the 80 s that drug use in Israel became a central problem. Israel has
developed into a society that is copied after our modern western society. With the reflection of our
western society, Israel received many good points, as well as many bad ones; a drug issue being a
negative effect. The issue of drug abuse mostly effects kids starting in Elementary school.
Unfortunately, drugs are not hard to obtain due to the large black market operations. Drug dealers in
Israel are very business minded and know how to achieve repeat customers. Their tactics include
giving out free drugs to first time users, getting them addicted, and then charging them. This problem
leaves many kids broke and looking for other means to make money many times resorting to illegal
activities. Approximately 300 thousand people in Israel are drug users. Of the 300 thousand, 70
thousand are children between the ages of 12 18. This is 11% of the age group in Israel. 25 thousand
are addicts. Heroin, cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy, and LSD are the drugs of choice in Israel. Users
usually need about three doses a day. 100 tons of marijuana is smuggled into Israel through the
Egyptian border. 3 4 tons of heroin and cocaine come through the Lebanese and Jordanian borders. A
cool 20 million tablets of ecstasy and LSD are smuggled by way of sea and air ports. Drug addicts are

  • 2. The Olympic Games Of The Olympics The Summer Olympic Games is the leading international sporting event in which thousands of athletes from around the world participate in a variety of competitions. According to existing historical manuscripts, the first ancient Olympic Games were celebrated in 776 BC in Olympia. They were dedicated to the Greek god Zeus and took place in the same place every four years. This four year period became known as an Olympiad (International Olympic Committee, 2012). The first modern games were held in Athens, Greece in 1896 with nine sports contested. The 2016 games will consist of 28 sports. Although the actual event may last for only a few weeks, the preparations commence up to a decade beforehand and may entail considerable investment expenditures that can have longer term economic significance. In 2016, the Olympics will be held in Rio De Janeiro. When choosing the next country to host the Olympics, Rio had one of the biggest advantages. The Olympic Games had never been held in South America. Additionally, the International Olympic Committee understood what the power of transformation of these games would mean to Rio, Brazil and South America. To the Olympic and Paralympic Movements, this decision represented the opening of a new and promising frontier, and the possibility of inspiring 65 million youths under 18 years of age in Brazil and 180 in the whole continent. There are many advantages of hosting the Olympic Games. First, is that the games always attract trade and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Progressives Were Groups Of Reformers Progressives were groups of reformers dedicated to improve the social and the political problems in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They live generally in the towns, were well instructed professionals, and thought the government could be an instrument for the transformation. They started a social movement that turned into a political movement. Unfortunately, the remainder of the population was subject to law incomes, long working hours, risky industrial tools, and unprincipled employers. Progressives believed the problems (poverty, violence, greed, racism, class warfare) that the society faced could best be directed by offering good education, a safe environment, and an efficient workplace. In the words of historian Howard Zinn, the Progressives worked to stabilize the capitalist system by repairing its worst defects. 2and restore some measure of class peace in a time of increasingly bitter clashes between capital and labor (Zinn 354). The progressive tried to reform the United States; however, they were incapable to make significant changes and improve the labors of the working class. The social structure in America pushed people around because the opportunities were not equals. The social in America was not favorable for the vast majority of tenant farmers, factory workers, slum dwellers, miners, farm laborers, working men and women, black and white. Robert Wiebe sees in the Progressive movement an attempt by the system to adjust to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Shakespeare s Portrayal of Henry V as the Model Monarch... Shakespeare s Portrayal of Henry V as the Model Monarch In this essay I intend to show that Shakespeare portrays Henry as the Classic Sovereign as he is patriotic, brave, cunning, religious, natural leader in touch with the lower class of the country. I will use quotes and remarks in the play to show this and present it. I shall firstly do a summery of the play and give a basic image of what it contains, and then give a detailed analysis, which will give a more detailed view of particular scenes to show how Shakespeare shows Henry s character and finally I shall make a conclusion to present my evidence, to show that Henry is presented as a model monarch. The play is based around Henry V s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They give historical and legal reasons why his claim is valid and encourage him to go to France and seize what is his. Some of the nobles in attendance support this view and, after making an allowance for the threat of a Scottish offensive, Henry decides to invade France. Ambassadors from the Dauphin deliver a rejection of his claims to territory in France as Henrys claim is through a Female, and an insulting gift of tennis balls. The letter coming from the Dauphin is an insult in itself, as it is saying Henry is not important enough to receive a message from the King of France. Henry sends a menacing reply in response to this insult, saying that the Dauphin will bear responsibility for a great deal of death and destruction. He then tells his nobles to prepare for war with France. ACT II. The Chorus describes the excitement as the army gets ready to depart from Southampton, but he warns that there are traitors in the English ranks. We witness a quarrel between Pistol and Nym over Nell Quickly, who was supposed to be engaged to Nym at some point in time, but ran off with Pistol and got married to him, both men threaten to fight and kill each other but they are both too cowardly to do anything. Also we learn that an old drinking companion of the King, Sir John Falstaff is ill. At Southampton, King Henry exposes the traitors, Lord Scroop, Grey of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Slavery Dbq Essay Between 1775 and 1830, in many places African Americans gained their freedom from slavery and in others, the institution of slavery expanded. Eventually, slavery became abundant in places where it was most necessary and died out in the places where it was of little use. In response, most free African Americans and enslaved African Americans took action against their maltreatment by petitions and willingness to fight. The first trend of declining slavery was visible from the first declared emancipation of slaves by Lord Dunmore in November of 1775. By granting freedom to all slaves who would raise arms against the American rebels, Lord Dunmore hoped to bring more troops into his ranks in Virginia. This movement continued following the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, however, slave labor was needed to do the backbreaking work in the hot Southern sun and thus became more valuable than ever before. The map shows that in 1790, slaves consist of less than 10 percent of the population in most areas of the country, and as much as 50 percent in small sections on the Southern coast. However, by 1830 most of the Northern states were areas either without any slaves or less than 10 percent. In contrast, the majority of Southern states had a slave population between 10 and 50 percent. This slave populous area extended along the Southern coasts as well as deep into Kentucky and Tennessee. The changes in slave density between 1790 and 1830 directly relate to areas were slave labor was an economic necessity. African Americans in separate situations often shared similar opinions concerning slavery and freedom. Although many blacks, both freed and enslaved, were willing to speak out against slavery and petition their rights, they did so in varying degrees. In one instance, a slave politely requested that his owner grant him the right to purchase his freedom. Another slave, Gabriel Prosser, took a more extreme approach to gaining his freedom. In fact, he led a rebellion against the white slaveholders in 1800. Even freed African Americans were maltreated. • 6. The Moral Principle Of The Right The moral principle of the right to die, is a way of thinking where a human being has the choice to end their life on their own terms. The right to die, also known as physician assisted suicide, is heavily contemplated in patients who are diagnosed as terminally ill. Being diagnosed as terminally ill may come at any point in one s life. Once a patient is given this news it puts a greater weight on their shoulders as now they must adjust to accommodate a new reality. Many patients fear that their near future will consist of becoming a burden to their family members financially as well as mentally, since they may not be able to afford the medical bills. Those who are terminally ill may worry that they are not going to be able to control their level of pain when it worsens as their physical condition deteriorates. With the diagnosis of a terminal disease many believe what follows will be unnecessary suffering that is brought on by the symptoms, many of which individuals would avoid at all costs. Currently there are only four states that have the Right to Die Law enacted; California, Oregon, Washington, and Vermont. Within these states patients have the option of physician assisted suicide, if their medical condition meets certain requirements to obtain this option. Terminally ill patients who live outside of these four states do not have the option of physician assisted suicide available to them. In this position paper I argue, that enacting a National Right to Die Law in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Communication Between Two Presynaptic Neurons A synapse is a small space at the end of a neuron. The synapses purpose is to pass information from one neuron to another. Synapses are composed of three parts; the presynaptic end that contains neurotransmitters, the synaptic cleft between two nerve cells and the postsynaptic ending that contains receptors. The communication between neurons advances through a series of steps. First, the presynaptic neuron delivers an action potential down its axon until it loses its myelin sheath and divides into many branches called buttons or synaptic knobs. (Zillmer, 2008, p. 105) Between the two neurons is a space called the synaptic cleft. This is the space where neurotransmitters are sent before being received by the postsynaptic neuron. • 8. Imperial Reform in Britian from 1815 to 1870 Essay Imperial Reform in Britian from 1815 to 1870 The period 1815 to 1870 was characterized by radical change in the character of the British Empire, to the extent that, by the end of the period, the empire consisted of two distinct parts: one made up of dependent colonies, experiencing direct formal rule; and the other made up of self governing settlement colonies. This development occurred as a result of a series of social, political and economic reforms. In order to judge whether economic factors dominated imperial reform during this period, an assessment of the causes and nature of reforms is necessary. However, while imperial reform was multicausal, great weight can be given to the argument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In turn, the abolitionist movement, consisting of humanitarian reformers, church missionaries etc exerted political pressure on government ministers, creating a climate in government circles which led directly to the passing of the abolition acts. Therefore, the first major imperial reform of the 19th century, the abolition of slavery, was primarily motivated by social and political factors, rather than merely economic ones. Nevertheless, underlying economic factors, such as the cost of the slave system in regions experiencing economic decline, as well as the economic advantages of industrialisation which caused the emergence of a new middle class with differing views, may have contributed to the change. Political reforms of the period focus mainly on the development of self government within the colonies of settlement. The granting of self government was sparked by an armed rebellion in Canada in 1837 following the failure of the British Governor to grant greater democracy, and the resulting emergence of an oppressed minority of French settlers of Lower Canada. The Canadian rebellion was a catalyst for political reforms, stemming from the 1839 Durham Report which reprimanded the British administration and called for the uniting of Upper and Lower Canada to form a single ... • 9. Jurassic Era Research Paper The beginning of the Jurassic brought a new climate. The weather changed from arid, dry, and seasonal to humid, hot, and stable. The weather allowed for lush jungles to flourish, and with the lush jungles, the dinosaurs. The weather change was due to the supercontinent Pangea breaking apart. Two new smaller supercontinents were formed, Gondwana and Laurasia. The supercontinents now had more area that was touching the ocean. This meant the water from the ocean made the supercontinents more humid than before. The dinosaurs thrived in this climate. New species are being discovered to this day from the Jurassic Period due to the immense diversity amongst them. The main dinosaurs that died off were Sauropod dinosaurs, long necked, four legged dinosaurs, and stegosauridae, class holding Stegosaurus. Other species that died include ammonites, similar to the living animals called nautilus, many marine reptiles, and bivalves, relatable to modern mollusca. Not much is known about this extinction. It is mainly linked to climate change. So far, no connection to volcanic activity or an asteroid has been made. This extinction gave way to the Cretaceous Period. The Cretaceous Period had a similar climate to the Jurassic, warm. The geography, however, was changed a drastic amount from the previous period. The Earth had very high sea levels at this time due to the lack of polar ice caps. The supercontinents Laurasia and Gondwana were breaking apart into the continents that are the same in the present day. Although the continents were the same, they did not yet look exactly the same. The continents will be further shaped by volcanic activity and tectonic plate activity. The shaping of the modern era was under way. Many other animals besides dinosaurs lived during the Cretaceous. Then this real phony guy, with the hair all slicked back on the top of his head stood up with the Sax and did a solo. I almost died. I mean, almost completely died right there. It had to be the cheesiest solo I had ever heard. I mean he was swaying back and forth and he closed his eyes like he was really getting into it and all, but it was the fakest thing you ever heard. • 11. Saint Teresa Of Avila Research Paper Saint Teresa of Avila was born on March 28th, 1515 in Avila, Spain. She is the patron saint of Spain. She is the third daughter of a large upper class family and she has twelve siblings. Her nationality is spanish. When she was only thirteen she was put in a convent school after her mother had died in 1521. Saint Teresa of Avila was not a very educated person. When she was a child she grew deathly ill and fell into a coma that was mistaken for death. Wax was put over eyes to keep them closed. Just before she was about to be buried she woke up. Many people asked her what death felt like. She saw in a vision a clear crystal castle that contained a large number of rooms or mansions. The first rooms or mansions contained people who have been given up the sins of the world. The second mansions contained believers that are led to seek the company of the good and to receive the sacraments often and to pray with much warmth and light. Four years after she joined the Carmelite Convent of the Incarnation she contracted an illness, probably of physiological origin. • 13. Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury Analysis The injury I chose to write about in this week s forum is anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) sprain. You will commonly see an ACL sprain in athletes associated with contact sports that require them come to an abrupt stop and pivot. The knee joint is a hinge joint that connects the femur to tibia. The anterior muscles of the quadriceps and the posterior muscles of the hamstrings help stabilize the knee joint (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). The ACL consists of long rope like bands that fasten bones together to keep the knee stable. The ACL is one of four ligaments that stabilize the knee, and it is one of the most injured ligament in the knee. The medial and collateral ligaments run along the outside of the knee and prevent the knee from shifting side to side, and the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments are located inside the knee and prevent the knee from shifting forward and backward (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). When the leg is hyperextended while simultaneously pivoting space is lost and the ACL gets pinched between bones (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). Depending on the amount of space in the narrow femoral notch and how much forced placed on the ACL will depend on the severity of the injury (Prentice Bobo Benson, 2014). • 15. Colossian Epistle To The Church In Colossae The epistle to the church in Colossae was written by Paul during his incarceration at Rome in A.D. 60. Many years after the establishment of the church, Epaphras travels to Rome to visit Paul and bring some good news of the Colossian congregation. But the main purpose of his visit is to request Paul s help against the heresies that were tearing at the core of the Colossian church. Paul s letter to the Colossians not only exhorts and cautions, but primarily focuses on the supremacy of Christ and the power of the gospel message (Elwell and Yarbrough 301). Paul begins his Colossians epistle by expressing his interest in the church. He had never had a chance to visit Colossae, for this community of faith was the result of his nearby ministry in Ephesus. Paul speaks of gratitude for the faith the Colossians have shown thus far, as we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints (English Standard Version, Col. 1.4). ... This novella mainly satirizes philosophical optimism, which is a belief that everything in the world is done for a reason, and this world was created by a perfect God therefore, it must be perfect. The novel s protagonist, Candide and his tutor Dr. Pangloss, think everything is for the best in this best of all possible worlds. Candide looks to Dr. Pangloss in times of need and question. In the novel when something tragic happens Candide looks to Pangloss to explain why the tragedy has occurred. He proved incontestably that there is no effect without cause, and that in this best of all possible worlds, his lordship s country seat was the most beautiful of mansions and her ladyship the best of all possible ladyships (Voltaire, 20). This idea was supported by many enlightenment thinkers but the philosphys main influence came from the philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz. Voltaire did not agree with this philosophy, hence, he created a brutal satire of optimism in Candide. The Machinery Of Freedom By David Friedman In David Friedman s book, The Machinery of Freedom , he argues for anarcho capitalism, the theory that believes the state should be abolished because it is unnecessary and a free market should be put into place. Usually, anarcho capitalism is defended from one of two views, consequentialist or deontologist. Friedman takes the consequentialist side believing that it is actually more desirable for the market to provide law and protection than the state because it gives the people choice to choose what they believe and competition will promote improvement. Deontologists, however, believe that any initiation of force is immoral, so they would prefer a law banning the initiation of force rather than private protection agencies. Despite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A proponent to Friedman s view would support this because consumers have better information than voters do. It has been seen election after election that politicians will tell the public what they want to hear in an effort to win, but during their candidacy they will not fulfill their promises. In an anarcho capitalist society, this wouldn t happen because when people choose their protection agency they would be able to look at the company s records of how they handle their other customers emergencies. From this information they would be able to tell how they would be treated because companies usually follow the same procedures for every customer. Politicians, on the other hand, often have to face new problems so voters can only make an educated guess on what they will do next. Also, it is often difficult to know how corrupt a politician really is behind the scenes. Therefore, the people participate in rational ignorance because they know their vote alone won t change the result of the election, so they don t bother to investigate deeply into each politician. Also, in an anarcho capitalist society everybody gets to choose which laws they follow by picking protection agencies and courts with beliefs that align with the person (Bill). A second advantage to sanctions can be seen through foreign pressure to promote internal change, assuming that the sanctioned government wants to comply with the rules, but can t because of domestic politics.(Charnovitz) We can see in many cases that sanctions are being imposed primarily for signaling purposes either for the benefit of allies, other third parties, or once again, their own citizens. This has been one of the most debated questions throughout the majority of the 20th century until this very day. It s been nearly 85 years since the 21st Amendment to the Constitution repealed the prohibition of alcohol in the U.S. in 1933. With liquor now legal, citizens were free to indulge without restriction. This, while marijuana continued to be classified as a schedule one drug and remained illegal nationally until the states of Colorado and Washington legalized recreational pot in 2012. However, the hypocrisy of alcohol s legalization decades ago did not go unnoticed. The research into the health effects of marijuana is still in its infancy. However, It has been demonstrated that using either alcohol or marijuana can have health consequences. They are both intoxicants and can have long terms effects on the mind and body. It is a complex issue because the two are difficult to compare. Drinking too much liquor can be deadly. If your body is incapable of metabolizing alcohol as fast as it is consumed leads to a build up of toxins in the brain that causes vital functions, needed for survival, to shut down. Marijuana, on the other hand, has been found to increase the heart rate and blood pressure. Yet, cannabis has not caused death as a result of overuse. • 33. Pan s Labyrinth And Heroic Ofelia Essay Pan s Labyrinth and Heroic Ofelia The hero is one of the most commonly seen archetypes throughout literature and film. While there are many different types of heroes, there are particular characteristics that identify a character as a hero. These characteristics are largely not in regards to who the hero is: personality traits, beliefs, or values rather, these attributes concern the hero s journey and the actions the hero takes while on that journey. In Guillermo Del Toro s film, Pan s Labyrinth, Ofelia is an archetypal hero because she is born into royalty, leaves her family and land, goes on an adventure, receives supernatural help, proves herself many times, and is rewarded spiritually when she dies. The first indication that Ofelia is a heroic character is that she is born into royalty and then leaves her family and land. According to Bryan Davis, two characteristics of an archetypal hero are that their birth occurs under unusual circumstances such as being born into royalty and that the hero leaves their family and land, and goes to live with someone else (Davis). At the beginning of Pan s Labyrinth, the narrator tells a story about a princess who dreamt of the human world. The princess escaped from her family and went to the human world, where she was blinded by the sun and her memory was erased.
