The God Of Small Things
The God of Small Things (TGOST) by Arundhati Roy and Tiny Sunbirds Far Away by Christie
Watson are two novels set in societies where females are significantly of lesser value and oppressed by
male figures. TGOST is an Indian novel following the Ipe family and their interactions during adverse
situations. Tiny Sunbirds Far Away shows the struggles that Blessing and her family endure when
moving from their wealthy apartment in Lagos to a complex in countryside Nigeria. Through their
respective novels, Roy and Watson explore the detrimental effects the dominance males have over
women both in family and society have on a female s identity. Such effects are revealed through
spousal issues between the older generation, the dependency that women have on men and the unequal
treatment of children in a family.
In Roy and Watson s representations of marital relationships between the elderly, the audience is
provided with an insight into the roles of male and female in the family and how it effects women. In
TGOST, Roy illustrates the physical and cruel dominance that males had over women in 1960s India.

salem witchcraft trials cause and effect Essay
In 1692 the area of Salem town and Salem village became very vulnerable to conflict. Severe weather
such as hurricanes had damaged land and crops, the effects of King Phillips War began to impact New
England society, and colonists were being forced off of the frontiers by Native peoples. The Church
and the government were in heavy conflict. And those residing in Salem began to grow suspicious of
one another when some prospered and others hadn t (Marcus, p13).
Suddenly people seemed very paranoid and soon residents were placing blame on one another and
accusing each other of witchcraft. In a fifteen month period between 1691 and 1692 nearly twelve
dozen people were accused of witchcraft in or near Salem (Norton, p8). ... Show more content on

Relationships between people and families seemed to crumble in the light of hysteria as children
accused parents and friends pointed out friends (Boyer, p67). Some confessed to witchcraft and saved
their own lives, others refused to tarnish their names and proclaimed innocence to their grave. The fact
that these people did not have freedom of speech and were proven guilty without any tangible
evidence caused even more hysteria throughout New England. People realized that at anytime anyone
of them could be pointed out and so the society fell even more.
One can see the Salem witch trials as being an excessive representation of the social and economic
changes taking place in New England at this time (Boyer, p67). Differences between those who
accepted change and those who feared it are what divided the colony. The hanging of witches can be
seen as the murder of difference or of change.
Perhaps if they had not been so insecure about their methods of governing the colony, the Puritans
wouldn t have felt threatened by the slightest change. It took nineteen innocent deaths for the leaders
of Salem to even begin to see the wrong doing in their trials. The Salem witch trials of the 1690 s had
an immense impact on American history. These dark times cast a shadow that would forever haunt this
country s past, knowing that our fore fathers were not the

Camera Angles In X-Men
A Visual Analysis of the Effects of Camera Angles in the film X Men 2000
The X Men is a science fiction action movie that tells the story of humans born with extraordinary
abilities, called mutants, and the conflict they encounter fitting in with ordinary humans. The story
describes shifting power dynamics between the two groups, as the mutant population is growing,
which results in certain factions of humans attempting to enforce stricter controls and regulations over
the mutants, because they are fearful of the mutant s strength. The film X Men, belongs to a series of
nine movies, the first film was created in 2000. The movie used multiple camera angles to express the
incongruity in levels of power between between the humans and mutants, and to show the
relationships among the characters and to make the audience feel empathy for some of the characters.

The first scene of the movie begins with a high angle focused down on a line of Jewish people on their
way to a concentration camp in world war two. This angle shows them as weak and vulnerable.
(swirk) A young mutant boy, Eric, is mixed in with the line of Jewish humans. Prior to revealing that
Eric is a mutant the camera does close ups of Eric s face, at a neutral angle, after his parents are taken
away, which make him appear as ordinary and encourages the viewer to feel empathy for him. The
close up also draws the audience s attention to his emotions, and the audience feels for him as he
realizes he is losing his parents. After being separated from his mother, Eric is filled with rage. He
raises his hand up to the gates between him and his parents escape. The camera zooms in to a close up
of Eric s hand, the gates break down, and the viewer can understand by the clever camera techniques
that Eric s hand that has a supernatural power that can bend

Realism Vs. Realism Of The United States
Realism versus Idealism. This argument is almost as old as the world we live in. The Unites States has
gone through a lot of stages in its history. The United States was sometimes realist and sometimes
idealist and that led to different presidents, governments and polices.
A Realist is a person who believes that the word and the people of the word can t change. They believe
that we can make the world a better but the people will still be the same no matter what you do to
them. For example Mahan was a realist who believed that a man s role in the world is to clime with
his country to the top knowing that some one will claim that spot from you in the future. In the history
of the united states there were a lot of examples or realist politicians. One of the first and most
important realists is Alexander Hamilton. An Idealist is a person who believes that the people can be
changed by education and time. An idealist is a peaceful person who believes that we can solve our
conflicts without wars. They believe that war is the failure in human evolution and that we should not
turn to it to solve our problems because all war is a symptom of man s failure as a thinking animal
(John Steinbeck). Woodrow Wilson is an example of an idealist presedent

How Did Robin Williams Shaped American Culture
Juliane Baur
US History
Period 3
Rough Draft
Robin McLaurin Williams was a remarkable person who shaped the american culture as an actor and
comedian. A lot of people see him as an idol. He was born on 21st July 1951 in Chicago, Ilinois. He
grew up in wealthy conditions as the only child of Laura McLaurin, a founder of a modeling agency
and Robert Fitzgerald who was a senior employee at Ford. He spent most of his childhood in different
places due to his father s profession before the family finally settled in Marin County.
Robin Williams was bullied badly during his childhood for being chubby. Therefore he spent a lot of
his time playing alone in the family s large home to avoid his tormentors. Eventually, he conquered his
overweight label by joining the wrestling and tracks teams. That s when he realised that he could make
the other children laugh as a way of gaining respect from them.
His father took early retirement when Robin Williams was 16. That is when they moved to California
where he finished his education at Redwood High School. Up to this point, he had already been
noticed for his flair in entertaining people, a natural talent.
After graduation in 1969, Robin Williams attended Claremont Men s College to learn more about

Underage Drinking Analysis
On the morning of February 21st, college students found 18 year old Ali Quartaro lifeless on the floor
of a famed party house. The night before, she had consumed large amounts of hard liquor until she had
passed out. While she lay unconscious for hours, others continued to party around her, afraid to obtain
her help. All because of a night of binge drinking, Ali s freshman year at the University of Wisconsin
Milwaukee ended grimly. The loss devastated her inconsolable mother who did not even know her
daughter drank. Unfortunately, all it takes is one night of binge drinking of alcohol to become a killer.

Later on in the novel, Ellen struggles with alcohol because she uses it as a coping device. Her drinking
ends up harming her mental state worse until Anna is able to pull her out of it. Alcohol is a highly
addictive and lethal substance that damages those who abuse it physically and mentally, especially
through the actions of drunk driving and underage drinking. As a result of extreme alcohol usage, the
body becomes impaired. The physical effects come in a wide variety of types, but all shorten the life
of the user considerably. Internally, alcohol mutilates organs such as the heart and liver while
externally, alcohol causes weight gain and the dehydration of your skin causing it to look blotchy. In
the heart, alcohol weakens the muscles which can cause heart failure. Additionally, high blood
pressure or hypertension often occurs which increases the risk of a heart attack or stroke. Because of
long term alcohol use, arrhythmia or an irregular heartbeat can occur. Sudden deaths are often the
result of an arrhythmia. Another organ affected is the lungs. Oftenly, alcoholics are more likely to get

Piano by D. H. Lawrence Essay
Piano by D. H. Lawrence
The poem Piano, by D. H. Lawrence describes his memories of childhood. Hearing a woman singing
takes him to the time when his mother played piano on Sunday evenings. In the present, this woman is
singing and playing the piano with great passion. However, the passionate music is not affecting him,
because he can only think about his childhood rather than the beauty of the music that exists in his
actual space.
A woman is singing softly to the speaker in the dusk. The speaker is describing the place he is at in the
present moment. It s partially dark, and a woman is singing to him. As he listens to the woman s soft
voice, he remembers the time when he was little. He says that it is taking ... Show more content on

This scenery is very pleasant and happy. A child is under his mother, he is touching her feet. This
shows how his childhood must have been, and the readers can see the reason why he wants to go back
to his childhood. In the next four lines of the poem, the speaker talks about how he feels as he
imagines his childhood. Even though he is in front of this woman who is singing and playing music, in
spite of himself, his present state, this insidious mastery of song betrays the speaker back till he weeps
to go back to his childhood. The guileful dominance of the song the woman is singing beguiles him to
think about his past experience. His heart weeps to belong to the old Sunday evenings at home. He
really misses the time when he was little, and he used to hear his mother playing piano every Sunday
evening. He wants to go back to his childhood and belong to that time again.
He describes the atmosphere at that time. It was winter outside and hymns in the cosy parlour, the
tinkling piano our guide. He is adding more description to the scenery he was imagining in the first
four lines of the poem. It s old Sundays, because this is when he was little, so he is emphasizing the
old times by using the word, old in front of Sundays to describe that he is not talking about present
Sundays. The time of the day is

Eight Million Tons Of Plastic Dumped In Ocean Every Year,...
In the National Geographic article Eight Million Tons of Plastic Dumped in Ocean Every Year , author
Laura Parker expresses how violent the simple act of dumping trash into the ocean really turns out to
be. This article goes into depth telling exactly what plastics pollution is causing, where it s mostly
coming from, and what you can do to decrease this problem and help save both our planet and ocean
wildlife. Every day, many people around the world dump trash into rivers or off of boats. To them it s
out of sight, out of mind , but it s not that easy for inhabitants of the ocean. As the garbage flows from
rivers into the oceans, it eventually combines with the garbage already floating in the ocean and
results in garbage patches, which all

The Bronx Zoo, And The Botanical Gardens
When one thinks of the Bronx, we think of Yankee Stadium, the Bronx Zoo, and the Botanical
Gardens. But ultimately, many neglect the Bronx as the poorest county, with the highest dropout rates,
and unemployment rates in the State of New York. I spent the last five years trying to fix some of
these issues, working especially with children from the ages of nine to seventeen with a nonprofit
organization called CBALL. We aim to empower young leaders and prevent children from falling
victim to the criminal culture that plague the Bronx. A direct correlation exists between the well being
of the residents in the Bronx and the crime rates. For example, seven out of the twenty New York City
neighborhoods with high violent crime rates come from the Bronx. As a future attorney, I would like
to attack this problem legally. Therefore, I actively swapped my ride along with Ben Cruz to intern
with the Bronx Defenders. Do to their stellar reputation; I was eager to see the Bronx Defender s
approach towards helping the borough. Also, my experience of that day impressed me and inspired me
to one day potentially work for the Bronx Defenders.
The Bronx Defenders impressed me with their holistic approach and resembled the work I do with
nonprofits. While at the Bronx Defenders office, I got a firsthand look at their overarching approach to
criminal defense and their tremendous dedication to their clients. I shadowed Robyn Mar, a criminal
defense attorney for the organization who represents

American Pie Essay
American Pie
With every aspect of our lives we are making a point, arguing a belief, or refuting some other aspect of
our existence. Aesthetic pieces, most avidly poems and songs, argue a message both in the lyrics and
in the meaning posed between the lines. American Pie, in a multitude of ways, argues that American
lives and memories are closely intertwined with the music of the time period. Not only does American
Pie argue a message it also pulls many generations together. Today, thirty years after the initial release,
American Pie still has an effect in our music and continues to be popular with all age groups. Don

Essentially, the late 1960s and early 1970s are an in between stage for America, where people were
exploring the many options in their lives. The release of American Pie in 1971 was a landmark in pop
music history because the song was eight minutes and thirty two seconds long. Later, it was divided
up into two parts and then turned into the version that is known today (www.don mclean.com). Now
that the time period that surrounded the release of American Pie is established it is easier to understand
the song because it can be read more in context.
The music of American Pie harkens back to a time of rock n roll, pianos, and acoustic guitars. A time
when the music was upbeat and peppy, causing you to want to jump up and dance. However, the
music during the time of its creation lacks the calming effect that is acquainted with the music of
previous eras. American Pie embodies many qualities of the music during the 1950s, including the
simplicity of the chord structures overall, the clear vocals, and well known and used instruments. With
the use of simple but repetitive chords, Don McLean is able to shift the attention from the musical
facet of the song back to the lyrics and the individual person listening to it.
At the opening of American Pie, Don McLean starts the song at a slow pace but then progressively
speeds up the pace through the first chorus. After the first chorus the music

Duality In 19th Century Russia
Just to the east of riotous, industrialising Western Europe sat Imperial Russia, pendent between
tradition and modernity, a vast empire of duality. As if trying to vent her frustrations, 19th century
Russia produced a selection of history s finest writers; each writer packing their work with themes of
duplicity, hope, and heavy social criticism.
Duality was the cardinal theme for Imperial Russia. 19th century Russia was a peasant filled, agrarian
empire rushed through the gawky adolescence of industrialisation. The serfs were only freed in 1861,
and by 1900 around 2.3 million Russians worked inside factories: in a century, Russia had moved
from a feudal system of serfdom to the shores of modernity. A theme of duplicity was carried ... Show

A New Methodology For Fingerprints
A New Methodology for Fingerprints The article I chose to research for my final capstone project was
an article that was published by the Forensic Science International and was written by Helio Barros
and Valter Stefani. The title of this article is A New Methodology for the Visualization of Latent
Fingermarks on the Sticky Side of Adhesive Tapes Using Novel Fluorescent Dyes . A little bit of
abstract about what the paper and the experiments are about is that there are three novel fluorescent
dyes that were tested in numerous experiments for the detection of latent fingerprints. These dyes were
tested on different types of adhesive tapes that varied in color. These dyes that were used are highly
selective to fingerprints, do not need any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A method that is used today for the visualization of latent fingerprints is a process of applying a dye
called Crystal Violet. Crystal Violet reacts with the fatty acids and lipids in your sweat and as a result
it produces a purple color. Although this process is used in the forensic science field today, it has its
limitations. The intense purple color of the dye sometimes results in the entire tape being stained and
as a result the entire fingerprint is ruined and can t be analyzed. The people in this article wanted to
find a better solution for the visualization of latent fingerprints that performed better than the methods
that we currently use today. This is where the introduction of the new dyes comes into the article. The
fluorescent dyes that are reported in this article can overcome the limitations that we currently have
with Crystal Violet and other commercial dyes. The Fluorescent dyes that were used in the study in the
article are named HB 7, HB 9, and HB 11. All of these dyes were synthesized and purified in a
laboratory and are currently patent pending. All the dyes used in this experiment are water soluble and
fluorescent in the blue green region when exposed to ultra violet light at 365nm. Alongside the dyes
that were used in this study, four different types of adhesive tapes were also used ranging from
different colors. Tape ID A that was used was Scotch Tape that was

Life Insurance, Accidental, And Long And Short Term...
Life insurance provides a guarantee of compensation in the case of loss of life in return for a payment
of a premium paid to a company. Life insurance, in different forms, may be offered by many
companies as part of a comprehensive benefits package. It is a significant benefit as it provides family
members with financial assistance and peace of mind in the event of death. There are several different
options for to choose from and deciding what options are best for each will depend on several factors
and the advantages of each option and the goals of each. This paper will define the different insurance
programs that may be available in organization s compensation and benefits package precisely term
life insurance, universal, whole life insurance, accidental death dismemberment, and long and short
term disability insurance. It will further outline the advantages of each.
No one can predict when their death is going to happen and for many this type of conversation may be
one that is uncomfortable. However, when thinking about loved ones left behind it is important to
think about the financial burdens that they may face in one s absence. Therefore, life insurance should
be thought of as income replacement that will be lost due to premature death. The factors an individual
should consider are the expenses required to be maintained such as mortgage, college education,
living expenses and surviving spouse retirement (Failla, 2014). In determining the options that may be

A Brief Look at France
II. Essay One The state which we today call France has undergone significant change since its origins
as the territory of Gaul. Between the years 480 and 1780, this territory was reshaped in terms of both
its physical boundaries and its inhabitants and rulers, creating a rich history of the nation of modern
France. First, in order to analyze the evolution of the state of France, it is necessary to define the
concept of the state. A state is a territory, defined by physical or imagined boundaries, containing a
population of people that is governed by a select few of those people. Within the state, the government
has authority and the power to impose their power on the rest of the population, enacting laws such as
taxation, fighting wars, and implementing a criminal justice system. It is now appropriate to consider
the territorial expansion and, at times, contraction of France from 480 and 1780. Before France was
united in any kind of Frankish state, the territory we now call France was mostly comprised of an area
called Gaul. This area, existing in parts of Spain and Rome, parts of present day Belgium, Germany,
Austria and other European nations, and south of England and the English channel, was inhabited by
the Gauls up until the end of Roman rule in the 1st 3rd centuries CE. The region was populated by
tribes and loosely connected governing bodies up until the 5th century CE, when it first began to take
shape under Clovis. Clovis I had established himself as the first

Analysis Of Arnold Wesker s The Kitchen
Britain in the 1950s was rife with many challenges and changes. Whilst the Second World War had
been over for years, war lived in the hearts of the nation. In 1953, Princess Elizabeth became Queen
Elizabeth II, the first female monarch in over 50 years and the ever present struggle of being a woman
in a world of men is referenced in Arnold Wesker s The Kitchen. A kitchen sink drama play, the issues
raised in the play are as relevant today as they were in the 1950s. From abortion to war, and
consequently, immigration, Wesker s play managed to merge the beliefs of two completely different
generations in one play.
David Mathieson states in Radical London in the 1950s, the possibility of Third World War cast a long
shadow over the politics of the 1950s . Many of the characters in The Kitchen came to Britain to
escape the horrors of war, such as Peter, Paul and Frank. Despite the last major war being finished
over a decade previous, there were many wars still being fought across the world with men signing up
to them thanks to the National Service. Moreover, due to the wars, a sundry of people came over to
Britain for a chance at a better life or at least to make money to send over to families in war torn areas
of Europe. However, as immigration increased, so did racial prejudices. This is notable in The Kitchen
through many of the British born characters, Bertha and Violet are just a few. In our version of the
play, Bertha clearly has a hatred of foreigners. Bertha: Don t you

Little Rascals Day Care Research Paper
In the spring of 1990 in Edenton North Carolina seven people including the owners and the staff
members of the Little Rascals Day Care Center had been arrested and charged with sexually abuse.
The mother Audrey Stever, who was concerned about her 3 year old Kyle reported the details of the
abuse to authority. Seven staff members that worked in the Little Rascals day care were innocently
accused of sexually abusing the majority of the children that attended the Little Rascals day care. This
is a witch hunt because the co workers were blamed. Put to jail, and judged for a crime they never
committed.
During the opening trial of the little rascals day care therapists and medical doctors had identified

4-33 By John Cage
John Cage, an American composer, once stated There is no such thing as an empty space or an empty
time. There is always something to see, something to hear. In Cage s musical career, he challenged the
concept of sound by finding a compelling beauty in silence. His philosophy was that silence let people
feel the sounds in the environment and that silence can give off a deep pleasure, which is shown in his
piece 4 33 . However, silence isn t viewed as a common conception of music, and at first I found Cage
s philosophy very abstract, but then realized its validity and how it can be a breakthrough in the
American culture. Overall, silence is just like music, it can be very powerful since it is an extended
form of communication, gives the ability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Silence is a time for the true self to connect to the flow of energy around. For the silent piece 4 33 , the
performance usually goes like this: a performer goes on stage, sits at the piano and opens the keyboard
lid but sits quietly for the duration with seldom turns of music pages. After each movement, the
performer closes and reopens the lid and sits again, at the end he closes the lid, bows and walks off
stage (Peter Gutmann, 1). However, the reactions of the audience and the sound of the environment is
what create the music. The tension builds in the hall because people are confronted with an
unexpected silence which stimulates many responses and makes sounds r through the ruffling of the
audience and the area of the hall. In the hall, coughing, sneezing, un wrapping of gum or mints,
shifting in seats, opening a door, the air conditioning, or any other aspect can occur as the nature of the
outside world such as wind, the passing of an airplane, crunching of leaves, and other natural aspects
also occur (Eric Rockwell, 1). This piece becomes a personal sound because every listener can create
their own reaction. Overall the balance between nature and human sounds are what John Cage
considers music. Each sound has a distinct tone and duration that the audience can become aware of
instead of how they usually disregard it. Through this silent piece, Cage helps the audience see that

Carl Jung s Theories And Theories
Carl Jung was one of the main theorists in the Psychodynamic field and created his own theory,
psychoanalysis. Jung was a student of Freud and his theories and ideas very much align with Freud s
theories. The similarities are evident in Jung s ideas of unconsciousness, his theory of the libido, and
is his notions of archetypes. The main difference is that Jung emphasized other factors besides
childhood memories. He partly focused on future aspirations and also delved into the supernatural in
his theories and ideas. Jung was one of the first to implement a theory on personality as well. To this
day we still refer to Jung s ideas of introversion and extroversion. Contemporary music has adopted
facets of Jung s theories in their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jung s psyche notion is broke into three parts: the ego, the personal unconscious, and the collective
unconscious. The ego is the awareness of the person and includes memories, cognitions, and affect.
The unconscious had a direct effect on personality in Jung s eyes, and was broken down into two
parts. The first part is the personal consciousness, this can contain personal information along with
repressed or forgotten past experiences. One of the major parts of the personal consciousness is the
complex. This notion is still referred to in the mainstream public and was a topic for many self help
books. The complex are the cognitions used on a particular topic, and the more emphasis put on the
topic the greater the complex. The last part is the collective unconscious. This was brought about by
Jung s research into the Native Americans, the supernatural, and through dream analysis. This level of
unconsciousness is shared throughout humanity and can explain why the same motifs are found in
dreams from people who do not communicate with one another. It is comprised of all the human
experience from the present to our ancestral past. It very much has an evolutionary aspect in that
experiences that our ancestors may have incurred are embedded deep within each person s
consciousness as a totality of the human experience. Archetypes are any artifacts, cognitions, or

Propagand Like A Good Neighbor
Like A Good Neighbor Our society has used different forms of advertisements, commercials, and
propaganda since even before the 20th century. Propaganda is described to be information that is
usually misleading or uninformed, that tends to be used to promote political views or to persuade a
consumer into buying a sellers product. According to Ann McClintock, propaganda is the systematic
effort to influence peoples opinions, to win them over to a certain view or side. Overtime with the
advancements of technology, forms of propaganda and advertisements have changed, but the end
result has always been the same, as well as the goal to get the consumer to buy the goods. There are
many propaganda techniques that advertisers use. Name Calling, Glittering Generalities, Transfer,
Testimonial, Plain Folks, Card Stacking, and Bandwagon are the seven propaganda techniques.
Companies use these techniques to persuade people to buy their products and to trust the company.
For example, in the commercial from the insurance company State Farm, the commercial starts off
with the husband on the phone with Jake, who is a representative from State Farm, and the husbands
wife walking in at three in the morning astounded and concerned as to why he would ever be talking
to anyone on the phone that late at night. The clock on the wall is very visible behind the wife, making
sure the audience knows that it is three in the morning. The viewer can then see as the wife takes the

Non Traditional Students Of Color Essay
Non traditional students of color are often faced with obstacles that make life that much more
challenging as compared to traditional students. Rendon (1994) labeled non traditional students as
those that attend affordable community colleges and minority serving institutions, and traditional
students are those whose families have a history of college attendance, come from middle and upper
class families, and typically feel confident about attending college
(p. 13). And, research shows that these obstacles, challenges, and barriers that people of color face
have negative effects throughout their lives. Education is a prime example of how people of color
suffer great setbacks when they first enter college. Rendon (1994) points out students from
underrepresented backgrounds often experience isolation, a lack of self efficacy, and a lack of a sense
of belonging in college contexts (p. 48). Furthermore, one needs to take it one step back and realize
that most students of color are much more likely to attend schools where most of their peers are poor
or low income. Therefore, socio economic status (SES) determines the education a person receives
throughout K 12. Walpole (2004) also describes how low SES parents are more likely to define
success as a secure full time job after graduating from high school. College attendance is not an
expectation and often means enrolling in a community college or technical school when it does occur
(p. 47). When a student reaches the

We Need Clean Drinking Water Pollution
Introduction
As the world s population is continually increasing, the amount of resources that humans are
exploiting is creating an unstainable future that presents a challenging endeavor for the world s
people. Currently, the world has a population of 7.1 billion inhabitants, and by the year 2050, the
world s population is expected to reach 9 billion (Population Institute, 2010, page 2). If the estimates
are correct, how can the earth supply its inhabitants with the limited amount of resources needed for
life? Perhaps it is impossible, as the world is already experiencing a water crisis. Only 20% of the
world s inhabitants have access to clean running water, while over one billion people do not have
access to clean drinking water (Population Institute, 2010, page 2). In public health, 21 of the 37
leading diseases in developing countries are related to unstable water sanitation (Population Institute,
2010, page 1). As a result, nearly 1.2 billion people inherent a greater probability to obtain a health
problem by consuming unclean water (Population Institute, 2010, page 2). Currently, the water crisis
is found in developing and developed countries. However, water sanitation and water scarcity is
predominantly evident in developing states. To combat such issues, many developing countries have
adopted public utilities that privatize water.
By description, water privatization is given by municipal or national governments to private
companies to control and maintain water

Chipotle Vs Del Taco Research Paper
Chipotle vs. Del Taco Here are two restaurants that may make you become hungry when they come to
mind. One, Chipotle which some of you may know for their humongous burritos and classy, cozy
wooden tables. The other, Del Taco where their tacos are extremely crunchy and have convenient
hours. Some people may believe that since Chipotle and Del Taco are both Tex Mex restaurants that
they are similar but based on their menus, environment, and prices one can tell how they differ from
one another. The menus at both of these restaurants differ significantly. At Chipotle, people are given
four main food entrees to choose from: a burrito, a salad, a bowl or tacos. After deciding what entrée
they want, one gets to choose what ingredients they want on their meal. For example, say that Sarah
decided to get a bowl, now she can decide what type of meat, beans, rice, salsa etc. she wants on it. As
for Del Taco the menu is completely different, there are more options to choose from. There is
quesadillas, crunchy tacos, soft tacos, regular size burritos, and combo meals. Del Taco not only
serves Tex Mex food but they also bring an American flavor to their menu by also serving burgers and
fries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Most Significant Moment In My Life
We all have that moment in life that changes us in some ways. I think back at events in my life, as an
example the births of my children that caused me to grow into a mother and the woman I am today.
However, there is a moment in my life, after my children, I was psychologically lost. This moment
changed my life forever! I was married for thirteen years with five children. During these thirteen
years, I would be the head of the house hold and ensured structure in the house. My husband at the
time, was an addict and in/out of prison. We attempt counseling and all types of treatment. The last six
years together, we were very involved in church. My faith in God grew and I believed my husband
could be delivered from this addition. I had to be the strong one in the family, the rock, the foundation
of our house to give the perception to people we were okay. After trying everything possible, I
realized, only he can be in recovery of addiction, I cannot make him. I had to make the decision to
break up my family for the safety of my children. After my separation, I became angry. My faith was
questionable, and I was angry at God. My family was torn, we lived with a friend in a small room. My
step children had to live with their mom because I could not afford to keep them. I no longer felt
strong, or had structure in my house. The feeling of failure and the mourning of the loss of my family
was overwhelming. I began to drink alcohol every day. My daily routine would consist of going to
work and as soon as I got out I would stop and get a Smirnoff Black, go home, cook for the three kids,
leave work out, drink and go out, go home at two am. The next six months, I did not care about
anything or anyone. I allowed these feelings to consume me. In September 2013, the first week, I was
driving drunk, I swerved and ran my mirror in to the wall. The second week, I was drunk and could
not leave the parking lot of a club, until the following morning. The third week, I was driving drunk to
a friend s house, and I remember fighting with him at the door way, and he asked me to leave. The
next thing I remember I woke up in a stranger s car, holding a blanket to my chin full of blood. The
young gentleman driving said, Miss, you

first mass produced gas powered automobile, the Model T. The Model T production run was the

urbanized and as rural regions improved. Even after mass urbanization, the Model T remained
unchanged long after it was technologically outdated. Model T owners began to upgrade to larger,
faster, smoother riding, and more stylish cars. Originally, gasoline automobiles ran on leaded gasoline
to reduce knocking as well as other sounds within engines. Because of the harmful effects that leaded
gasoline possesses such as environmental problems, effects on peoples health, and its negative effects
on engines, it was ruled out in 1974 and was switched to unleaded gasoline. Today gasoline powered
cars are manufactured with different engine powers. A car today is usually produced with a cylindered

about unity and working together as one whole unit for the better of the society. The third value is

Edward The Vikings Achievements
After Alfred the Great and his son successfully ruled England, many of the kings that followed them
were not as successful. Eventually, under the rule of Ethelred, the Vikings took over England again. As
the years progressed, and the Anglo Saxons lived together with the Vikings, they began to all began to
think of themselves as English. This understanding meant no more Viking troubles, right? Well, not
exactly. When Edward the Confessor ruled England, he had no sons. Because of this, several men
wanted to inherit the throne. Harold, a nobleman from Wessex, gained support from many of those in
power throughout England. William, the duke of Normandy (in France), thought that since he was a
distant cousin of Edward the people should crown him the next English king. When Harold s boat

Effects Of Child Death Rates On Children
As a child, everyone remembers having to get shots. My first memorable experience with shots came
at age four. I didn t understand why I needed shots. All I knew was this sharp thing was going to be
stuck in my arm and it was going to hurt. Before I got my four year old shots I received my first set of
vaccines, vaccines that people are now claiming are dangerous. Research shows that child death rates
have been reduced by more than half since 1990 due to vaccinations (Asia News Monitor). The
vaccinations are given though out infancy and childhood to prepare the immune system against any

Both have reasons to believe what they do. It has been known that ever since the vaccines for diseases
like diphtheria and measles were introduced in the twentieth century, the number of deaths related to
these diseases decreased by more than 500 percent. On the other hand, the mid twentieth century was
also the time when such indicators as nutrition, sanitation and healthcare, and other important factors
of spreading vaccine preventable diseases have been greatly improved (McMahon Pratt, 2005). It is
rather difficult to objectively determine what influenced the decrease in the number of deaths the
invention of antibiotics in the 1940 s, the improvement of sanitation and healthcare standards, or the
introduction of certain vaccines. Those opposing mandatory vaccination choose to believe that it was
the first two factors rather than the third one. There are facts to support both versions. For example,
death rates from the pertussis (whooping cough) declined from 12,000 deaths per year in 1905 to less
than 1,000 deaths per year in 1950 12 times less. But as the pertussis vaccine was not widespread until
late 1940 s, we can logically assume it obviously was not the vaccine that influenced the mentioned
decrease. At the same time, since the vaccine was introduced and

Rhetorical Analysis Of A More Perfect Union
Senator Barack Obama had many issues throughout his campaign. Obama s speech, A More Perfect
Union , delivered on March 18, 2008, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, conveyed many issues
concerning racism throughout the United States, but it starts out stating how the founders of this
nation constructed the Declaration of Independence, creating all men equal. Obama then begins to talk
about his pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, and his racial remarks against America and Israel, as it is
divisive at a time when we need unity , referring to the two wars, a terrorist threat, a falling economy,
a chronic health care crisis going on at the time. (Obama 2) Obama remarks I am the son of a black
man from Kenya and a white woman from Kansas, (Obama 1) because there is much criticism in his
campaign due to his race. Obama argues that race is paralyzing our nation, and that it is still a major
issue due to white privilege, and racial inequality. In the end, Obama hopes to move past the racial
stalemate we ve been stuck in for years, (Obama 6) and wishes to improve health care, jobs, schools,
and other social issues for the United States.
There is not one rhetorical strategy used in this speech as ethos, pathos, and logos are all seen. Obama
appeals to emotion very successfully reaching people affected by racial issues. Obama successfully
uses allusion and repetition, along with personal anecdotes to relate with the audience. Ethos is a

The sound waves that we encounter in our daily lives exist as pressure vibrations in the air, water, and
solid mediums that they travel through dissipating and becoming weaker as the displacement from the
initial source increases. As sound is transmitted in the form of a travelling wave, the pressure varies
and is dependent on both the displacement and time passed from its emission, according to the
following equation: y=Asin 2π/λ(x vt)
Where A is the amplitude, λ is the wavelength, v is the wave speed, t is the time elapsed, and (x,y) is
the displacement of the wave.
Just like any type of wave, sound waves transmit energy of a magnitude proportional to the square of
the wave s amplitude (E=kA^2). This can mean large amounts of high amplitude sound waves cause
significant destruction, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is increasingly prevalent as our cities become ever more densely populated and built up. To try
and reduce this disruption and isolate the sound inside or out of different spaces, acoustic insulation
can be used often labelled soundproofing. There are several different types, each with the common
aim to decrease the sound pressure level in certain different spaces. Many techniques, such as
damping, reflection, diffusion and cancellation, can all be used to achieve this.
Damping is the reduction of any resonance in a room, through the absorption of either the acoustic
resonance in the air or mechanical resonance in the room s structure. As friction and interference
exists on the boundaries between air and solids, materials with a high surface area exposed can be
used to absorb acoustic resonance, and this resistance dampens the sound pressure. A possible
example of this is foam or any spongy material, as they contain a high surface area compared to a flat
surfaced

The God Of Small Things The God of Small Things (TGOST) by Arundhati Roy and Tiny Sunbirds Far Away by Christie Watson are two novels set in societies where females are significantly of lesser value and oppressed by male figures. TGOST is an Indian novel following the Ipe family and their interactions during adverse situations. Tiny Sunbirds Far Away shows the struggles that Blessing and her family endure when moving from their wealthy apartment in Lagos to a complex in countryside Nigeria. Through their respective novels, Roy and Watson explore the detrimental effects the dominance males have over women both in family and society have on a female s identity. Such effects are revealed through spousal issues between the older generation, the dependency that women have on men and the unequal treatment of children in a family. In Roy and Watson s representations of marital relationships between the elderly, the audience is provided with an insight into the roles of male and female in the family and how it effects women. In TGOST, Roy illustrates the physical and cruel dominance that males had over women in 1960s India. More specifically, the abusive relationship between Pappachi and Mammachi that began when Mammachi s new pickling business took off. Pappachi was retired and He slouched around the compound in his immaculately tailored suits, weaving sullen circles around mounds of red chillies and freshly powdered yellow turmeric, watching Mammachi supervise the buying, the weighing, the salting and ... • 3. salem witchcraft trials cause and effect Essay In 1692 the area of Salem town and Salem village became very vulnerable to conflict. Severe weather such as hurricanes had damaged land and crops, the effects of King Phillips War began to impact New England society, and colonists were being forced off of the frontiers by Native peoples. The Church and the government were in heavy conflict. And those residing in Salem began to grow suspicious of one another when some prospered and others hadn t (Marcus, p13). Suddenly people seemed very paranoid and soon residents were placing blame on one another and accusing each other of witchcraft. In a fifteen month period between 1691 and 1692 nearly twelve dozen people were accused of witchcraft in or near Salem (Norton, p8). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Relationships between people and families seemed to crumble in the light of hysteria as children accused parents and friends pointed out friends (Boyer, p67). Some confessed to witchcraft and saved their own lives, others refused to tarnish their names and proclaimed innocence to their grave. The fact that these people did not have freedom of speech and were proven guilty without any tangible evidence caused even more hysteria throughout New England. People realized that at anytime anyone of them could be pointed out and so the society fell even more. One can see the Salem witch trials as being an excessive representation of the social and economic changes taking place in New England at this time (Boyer, p67). Differences between those who accepted change and those who feared it are what divided the colony. The hanging of witches can be seen as the murder of difference or of change. Perhaps if they had not been so insecure about their methods of governing the colony, the Puritans wouldn t have felt threatened by the slightest change. It took nineteen innocent deaths for the leaders of Salem to even begin to see the wrong doing in their trials. The Salem witch trials of the 1690 s had an immense impact on American history. These dark times cast a shadow that would forever haunt this country s past, knowing that our fore fathers were not the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States was sometimes realist and sometimes idealist and that led to different presidents, governments and polices. A Realist is a person who believes that the word and the people of the word can t change. Hearing a woman singing takes him to the time when his mother played piano on Sunday evenings. In the present, this woman is singing and playing the piano with great passion. However, the passionate music is not affecting him, because he can only think about his childhood rather than the beauty of the music that exists in his actual space. A woman is singing softly to the speaker in the dusk. The speaker is describing the place he is at in the present moment. It s partially dark, and a woman is singing to him. A child is under his mother, he is touching her feet. This shows how his childhood must have been, and the readers can see the reason why he wants to go back to his childhood. In the next four lines of the poem, the speaker talks about how he feels as he imagines his childhood. Even though he is in front of this woman who is singing and playing music, in spite of himself, his present state, this insidious mastery of song betrays the speaker back till he weeps to go back to his childhood. The guileful dominance of the song the woman is singing beguiles him to think about his past experience. His heart weeps to belong to the old Sunday evenings at home. He really misses the time when he was little, and he used to hear his mother playing piano every Sunday evening. He wants to go back to his childhood and belong to that time again. He describes the atmosphere at that time. It was winter outside and hymns in the cosy parlour, the tinkling piano our guide. He is adding more description to the scenery he was imagining in the first four lines of the poem. But ultimately, many neglect the Bronx as the poorest county, with the highest dropout rates, and unemployment rates in the State of New York. I spent the last five years trying to fix some of these issues, working especially with children from the ages of nine to seventeen with a nonprofit organization called CBALL. We aim to empower young leaders and prevent children from falling victim to the criminal culture that plague the Bronx. A direct correlation exists between the well being of the residents in the Bronx and the crime rates. For example, seven out of the twenty New York City neighborhoods with high violent crime rates come from the Bronx. As a future attorney, I would like to attack this problem legally. Therefore, I actively swapped my ride along with Ben Cruz to intern with the Bronx Defenders. Do to their stellar reputation; I was eager to see the Bronx Defender s approach towards helping the borough. Also, my experience of that day impressed me and inspired me to one day potentially work for the Bronx Defenders. The Bronx Defenders impressed me with their holistic approach and resembled the work I do with nonprofits. While at the Bronx Defenders office, I got a firsthand look at their overarching approach to criminal defense and their tremendous dedication to their clients. Essentially, the late 1960s and early 1970s are an in between stage for America, where people were exploring the many options in their lives. The release of American Pie in 1971 was a landmark in pop music history because the song was eight minutes and thirty two seconds long. Later, it was divided up into two parts and then turned into the version that is known today (www.don mclean.com). Now that the time period that surrounded the release of American Pie is established it is easier to understand the song because it can be read more in context. The music of American Pie harkens back to a time of rock n roll, pianos, and acoustic guitars. A time when the music was upbeat and peppy, causing you to want to jump up and dance. However, the music during the time of its creation lacks the calming effect that is acquainted with the music of previous eras. American Pie embodies many qualities of the music during the 1950s, including the simplicity of the chord structures overall, the clear vocals, and well known and used instruments. With the use of simple but repetitive chords, Don McLean is able to shift the attention from the musical facet of the song back to the lyrics and the individual person listening to it. At the opening of American Pie, Don McLean starts the song at a slow pace but then progressively speeds up the pace through the first chorus. After the first chorus the music ... As if trying to vent her frustrations, 19th century Russia produced a selection of history s finest writers; each writer packing their work with themes of duplicity, hope, and heavy social criticism. Duality was the cardinal theme for Imperial Russia. 19th century Russia was a peasant filled, agrarian empire rushed through the gawky adolescence of industrialisation. The serfs were only freed in 1861, and by 1900 around 2.3 million Russians worked inside factories: in a century, Russia had moved from a feudal system of serfdom to the shores of modernity. The title of this article is A New Methodology for the Visualization of Latent Fingermarks on the Sticky Side of Adhesive Tapes Using Novel Fluorescent Dyes . A little bit of abstract about what the paper and the experiments are about is that there are three novel fluorescent dyes that were tested in numerous experiments for the detection of latent fingerprints. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A method that is used today for the visualization of latent fingerprints is a process of applying a dye called Crystal Violet. Crystal Violet reacts with the fatty acids and lipids in your sweat and as a result it produces a purple color. Although this process is used in the forensic science field today, it has its limitations. The intense purple color of the dye sometimes results in the entire tape being stained and as a result the entire fingerprint is ruined and can t be analyzed. The people in this article wanted to find a better solution for the visualization of latent fingerprints that performed better than the methods that we currently use today. This is where the introduction of the new dyes comes into the article. The fluorescent dyes that are reported in this article can overcome the limitations that we currently have with Crystal Violet and other commercial dyes. The Fluorescent dyes that were used in the study in the article are named HB 7, HB 9, and HB 11. All of these dyes were synthesized and purified in a laboratory and are currently patent pending. • 19. A Brief Look at France II. Essay One The state which we today call France has undergone significant change since its origins as the territory of Gaul. Between the years 480 and 1780, this territory was reshaped in terms of both its physical boundaries and its inhabitants and rulers, creating a rich history of the nation of modern France. First, in order to analyze the evolution of the state of France, it is necessary to define the concept of the state. A state is a territory, defined by physical or imagined boundaries, containing a population of people that is governed by a select few of those people. Within the state, the government has authority and the power to impose their power on the rest of the population, enacting laws such as taxation, fighting wars, and implementing a criminal justice system. It is now appropriate to consider the territorial expansion and, at times, contraction of France from 480 and 1780. Before France was united in any kind of Frankish state, the territory we now call France was mostly comprised of an area called Gaul. This area, existing in parts of Spain and Rome, parts of present day Belgium, Germany, Austria and other European nations, and south of England and the English channel, was inhabited by the Gauls up until the end of Roman rule in the 1st 3rd centuries CE. The region was populated by tribes and loosely connected governing bodies up until the 5th century CE, when it first began to take shape under Clovis. Whilst the Second World War had been over for years, war lived in the hearts of the nation. In 1953, Princess Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth II, the first female monarch in over 50 years and the ever present struggle of being a woman in a world of men is referenced in Arnold Wesker s The Kitchen. A kitchen sink drama play, the issues raised in the play are as relevant today as they were in the 1950s. From abortion to war, and consequently, immigration, Wesker s play managed to merge the beliefs of two completely different generations in one play. David Mathieson states in Radical London in the 1950s, the possibility of Third World War cast a long shadow over the politics of the 1950s . Many of the characters in The Kitchen came to Britain to escape the horrors of war, such as Peter, Paul and Frank. Despite the last major war being finished over a decade previous, there were many wars still being fought across the world with men signing up to them thanks to the National Service. Moreover, due to the wars, a sundry of people came over to Britain for a chance at a better life or at least to make money to send over to families in war torn areas of Europe. However, as immigration increased, so did racial prejudices. This is notable in The Kitchen through many of the British born characters, Bertha and Violet are just a few. • 23. 4-33 By John Cage John Cage, an American composer, once stated There is no such thing as an empty space or an empty time. There is always something to see, something to hear. In Cage s musical career, he challenged the concept of sound by finding a compelling beauty in silence. His philosophy was that silence let people feel the sounds in the environment and that silence can give off a deep pleasure, which is shown in his piece 4 33 . However, silence isn t viewed as a common conception of music, and at first I found Cage s philosophy very abstract, but then realized its validity and how it can be a breakthrough in the American culture. Silence is a time for the true self to connect to the flow of energy around. For the silent piece 4 33 , the performance usually goes like this: a performer goes on stage, sits at the piano and opens the keyboard lid but sits quietly for the duration with seldom turns of music pages. After each movement, the performer closes and reopens the lid and sits again, at the end he closes the lid, bows and walks off stage (Peter Gutmann, 1). However, the reactions of the audience and the sound of the environment is what create the music. The tension builds in the hall because people are confronted with an unexpected silence which stimulates many responses and makes sounds r through the ruffling of the audience and the area of the hall. In the hall, coughing, sneezing, un wrapping of gum or mints, shifting in seats, opening a door, the air conditioning, or any other aspect can occur as the nature of the outside world such as wind, the passing of an airplane, crunching of leaves, and other natural aspects also occur (Eric Rockwell, 1). This piece becomes a personal sound because every listener can create their own reaction. Overall the balance between nature and human sounds are what John Cage considers music. Each sound has a distinct tone and duration that the audience can become aware of instead of how they usually disregard it. Through this silent piece, Cage helps the audience see that ... The first part is the personal consciousness, this can contain personal information along with repressed or forgotten past experiences. One of the major parts of the personal consciousness is the complex. This notion is still referred to in the mainstream public and was a topic for many self help books. Propaganda is described to be information that is usually misleading or uninformed, that tends to be used to promote political views or to persuade a consumer into buying a sellers product. According to Ann McClintock, propaganda is the systematic effort to influence peoples opinions, to win them over to a certain view or side. Overtime with the advancements of technology, forms of propaganda and advertisements have changed, but the end result has always been the same, as well as the goal to get the consumer to buy the goods. There are many propaganda techniques that advertisers use. Name Calling, Glittering Generalities, Transfer, Testimonial, Plain Folks, Card Stacking, and Bandwagon are the seven propaganda techniques. Companies use these techniques to persuade people to buy their products and to trust the company. Rendon (1994) labeled non traditional students as those that attend affordable community colleges and minority serving institutions, and traditional students are those whose families have a history of college attendance, come from middle and upper class families, and typically feel confident about attending college (p. 13). And, research shows that these obstacles, challenges, and barriers that people of color face have negative effects throughout their lives. Education is a prime example of how people of color suffer great setbacks when they first enter college. Rendon (1994) points out students from underrepresented backgrounds often experience isolation, a lack of self efficacy, and a lack of a sense of belonging in college contexts (p. 48). Furthermore, one needs to take it one step back and realize that most students of color are much more likely to attend schools where most of their peers are poor or low income. Therefore, socio economic status (SES) determines the education a person receives throughout K 12. My step children had to live with their mom because I could not afford to keep them. I no longer felt strong, or had structure in my house. The feeling of failure and the mourning of the loss of my family was overwhelming. I began to drink alcohol every day. My daily routine would consist of going to work and as soon as I got out I would stop and get a Smirnoff Black, go home, cook for the three kids, leave work out, drink and go out, go home at two am. The next six months, I did not care about anything or anyone. I allowed these feelings to consume me. The electric car from its birth to present day has evolved greatly. At the electric cars birth, the electric automobile started out having ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The gasoline powered automobiles/modern day engine was born in the mid to late 1800 s by Gottlieb Daimler of Germany. He invented the first modern day direct injection gasoline engine, and later that year invented the first four wheeled gasoline powered automobile. In 1908 Henry Ford released the first mass produced gas powered automobile, the Model T. The Model T production run was the longest of any automobile model in history until 1972. The Model T was originally portrayed to be a farmer s car that served the transportation needs of a farmer. Its popularity declined as the country urbanized and as rural regions improved. Even after mass urbanization, the Model T remained unchanged long after it was technologically outdated. Model T owners began to upgrade to larger, faster, smoother riding, and more stylish cars. Originally, gasoline automobiles ran on leaded gasoline to reduce knocking as well as other sounds within engines. Because of the harmful effects that leaded gasoline possesses such as environmental problems, effects on peoples health, and its negative effects on engines, it was ruled out in 1974 and was switched to unleaded gasoline. Today gasoline powered cars are manufactured with different engine powers. A car today is usually produced with a cylindered engine. The more cylinders an engine posses the faster it can pump fuel into the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. How Did Elvis Influence How did Elvis Presley make an influence? To many people, he was the definition of the 20th century. Elvis is most known for his music. Many people think he invented Rock and Roll, but he didn t. He was a big influence in it though. His style made it unique. It was a sound no one has ever heard before. Segregation was a big part of the 20th century. Elvis grew up listening to African American singers. Elvis had a huge following. Once people realized that Elvis was inspired by African American singers, they began to realize that they weren t so different from us. African American singers became more and more popular. • 37. Hawaii Culture Research Paper Hawaii Culture I chose Hawaiian culture because when people thing of Hawaii a lot of times we think hula skirts, hula dancers, or the beach. I had this image of dancers and a tropical get away. I am interested in the background of their culture and the different traditions that get Hawaii to where it is today. I have been asking myself many questions such as: Who founded or first landed in Hawaii? Is there a specific language spoken there? What is the true meaning behind hula dancers, leis, and some of their clothing? My final question was how did these traditions start and are they still being carried out today? The purpose of this essay is to evaluate the Hawaiian culture and form an appreciation for their customs, values, celebration, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hawaii is founded upon six main values, those being; 1. Ke Akua, Mana, 2. Lōkahi, 3. ʻOhana, 4. Poʻokela, 5. Hoʻomau, 6. Koho ʻIa. The first one Ke Akua, Mana can most relate to the English word Prayer, but this isn t the whole meaning completely. The whole meaning would be having a full divine understanding of life and the harmony between man and nature. Lōkahi the second foundation value is about unity and working together as one whole unit for the better of the society. The third value is ʻOhana meaning family. Hawaiians think this is the most important of all the founding values. ʻOhana is not just about immediate family, this means the relationship with their creator as well. Forth is Poʻokela, this refers to excellence which is not only desirable for Hawaiians but also very important to any Hawaiian. Second the last is Hoʻomau, this means growth and regrowth of generations to keep family traditions still going. Hawaiians must continue to grow or cease to exist, thus they have chosen to give breath to life. Last but not least is Koho ʻIa. Which was adopted at a later time. Koho meaning chosen. This concept pertains to everyone having the choice even if it may not seem that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Edward The Vikings Achievements After Alfred the Great and his son successfully ruled England, many of the kings that followed them were not as successful. Eventually, under the rule of Ethelred, the Vikings took over England again. As the years progressed, and the Anglo Saxons lived together with the Vikings, they began to all began to think of themselves as English. This understanding meant no more Viking troubles, right? Well, not exactly. When Edward the Confessor ruled England, he had no sons. Because of this, several men wanted to inherit the throne. Harold, a nobleman from Wessex, gained support from many of those in power throughout England. William, the duke of Normandy (in France), thought that since he was a distant cousin of Edward the people should crown him the next English king. When Harold s boat shipwrecked on the coast of Normandy, William deviously welcomed Harold into his castle. He prepared a feast and afterwards made Harold promise he would give the throne to William. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 39. Effects Of Child Death Rates On Children As a child, everyone remembers having to get shots. My first memorable experience with shots came at age four. I didn t understand why I needed shots. All I knew was this sharp thing was going to be stuck in my arm and it was going to hurt. Before I got my four year old shots I received my first set of vaccines, vaccines that people are now claiming are dangerous. Research shows that child death rates have been reduced by more than half since 1990 due to vaccinations (Asia News Monitor). The vaccinations are given though out infancy and childhood to prepare the immune system against any possible outbreak of these potentially fatal diseases. Vaccinations involve an injection of, in most cases, an attenuated version ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both have reasons to believe what they do. It has been known that ever since the vaccines for diseases like diphtheria and measles were introduced in the twentieth century, the number of deaths related to these diseases decreased by more than 500 percent. On the other hand, the mid twentieth century was also the time when such indicators as nutrition, sanitation and healthcare, and other important factors of spreading vaccine preventable diseases have been greatly improved (McMahon Pratt, 2005). It is rather difficult to objectively determine what influenced the decrease in the number of deaths the invention of antibiotics in the 1940 s, the improvement of sanitation and healthcare standards, or the introduction of certain vaccines. Those opposing mandatory vaccination choose to believe that it was the first two factors rather than the third one. There are facts to support both versions. For example, death rates from the pertussis (whooping cough) declined from 12,000 deaths per year in 1905 to less than 1,000 deaths per year in 1950 12 times less. But as the pertussis vaccine was not widespread until late 1940 s, we can logically assume it obviously was not the vaccine that influenced the mentioned decrease. At the same time, since the vaccine was introduced and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Monkey See Monkey 2 Analysis In the article, Monkey See, Monkey 2: Scientists Clone Monkeys Using Technique that Created Dolly the Sheep, written by Jen Christensen of CNN, explains how scientists have cloned a monkey in China. The article described how using somatic cell transfer, the removing a nucleus from an unfertilized egg and replacing it with with a nucleus from another cell, which is then transplanted into a surrogated mother, scientists were capable of creating a clone of a primate. My position on this experiment is believing animals should not be cloned due to the fact that it can result in many different complications. To start off, cloning is inefficient and a very hazardous procedure. There have been many attempts to clone primates other than humans, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Rhetorical Analysis Of A More Perfect Union Senator Barack Obama had many issues throughout his campaign. Obama s speech, A More Perfect Union , delivered on March 18, 2008, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, conveyed many issues concerning racism throughout the United States, but it starts out stating how the founders of this nation constructed the Declaration of Independence, creating all men equal. Obama then begins to talk about his pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, and his racial remarks against America and Israel, as it is divisive at a time when we need unity , referring to the two wars, a terrorist threat, a falling economy, a chronic health care crisis going on at the time. (Obama 2) Obama remarks I am the son of a black man from Kenya and a white woman from Kansas, (Obama 1) because there is much criticism in his campaign due to his race. Obama argues that race is paralyzing our nation, and that it is still a major issue due to white privilege, and racial inequality. In the end, Obama hopes to move past the racial stalemate we ve been stuck in for years, (Obama 6) and wishes to improve health care, jobs, schools, and other social issues for the United States. There is not one rhetorical strategy used in this speech as ethos, pathos, and logos are all seen. Obama appeals to emotion very successfully reaching people affected by racial issues. Obama successfully uses allusion and repetition, along with personal anecdotes to relate with the audience. Ethos is a rhetorical strategy used to appeal to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Fibreglass Vs Mass Loaded Vinyl Sound Insulation Materials: Fibreglass vs Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) Background Science Sound The sound waves that we encounter in our daily lives exist as pressure vibrations in the air, water, and solid mediums that they travel through dissipating and becoming weaker as the displacement from the initial source increases. As sound is transmitted in the form of a travelling wave, the pressure varies and is dependent on both the displacement and time passed from its emission, according to the following equation: y=Asin 2π/λ(x vt) Where A is the amplitude, λ is the wavelength, v is the wave speed, t is the time elapsed, and (x,y) is the displacement of the wave. Just like any type of wave, sound waves transmit energy of a magnitude proportional to the square of the wave s amplitude (E=kA^2). This can mean large amounts of high amplitude sound waves cause significant destruction, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is increasingly prevalent as our cities become ever more densely populated and built up. To try and reduce this disruption and isolate the sound inside or out of different spaces, acoustic insulation can be used often labelled soundproofing. There are several different types, each with the common aim to decrease the sound pressure level in certain different spaces. Many techniques, such as damping, reflection, diffusion and cancellation, can all be used to achieve this. Damping is the reduction of any resonance in a room, through the absorption of either the acoustic resonance in the air or mechanical resonance in the room s structure. As friction and interference exists on the boundaries between air and solids, materials with a high surface area exposed can be used to absorb acoustic resonance, and this resistance dampens the sound pressure. A possible example of this is foam or any spongy material, as they contain a high surface area compared to a flat surfaced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
