The Spread Of Hinduism
Hinduism is a religion that is most recognized in parts of South Asia in countries such as: India and
Nepal. Hinduism is one of the world s most practiced religions, following Christianity and Islam.
(Hinduism, 2015) The word Hinduism originated around the 14th century used by Arabs, Persians,
and Afghans. By the 19th century, the term had been adopted by the British colonial administration in
India, and used to describe the religion s beliefs and practice s used by most of India s population.
(Kinnard, 2015) Hindus have no knowledge of when Hinduism originated, or whom its founder was.
Hinduism is about 4,000 years old (1500 2000 B.C.E), which throughout the years has advanced and

Stemming from the roots of Rastafari in rising against the post colonial oppression of poor black,
Rasta s typically come from disadvantaged backgrounds . (Rastafari, 2015) Rastafarianism is
commonly said to be founded on November 2nd, 1930, but was based on the movement started in the
1920s. Rastafarianism was founded in Jamaica, by Marcus Garvey, who was a black Jamaican teacher
in the 1920s, and who had been considered a representative figure of John the Baptist. Those who
believe in Rastafarianism can be identified as Rastafarians, Rastafaris, Rastas, or Ras Tafarians.
Rastafarians have their own representation of Jesus, whom they refer to as Jah. Jah was the black
version of Jesus, whom they believe is Emperor Haile Selassie. Rastafarians, referred to Selassie as
H.I.M (him), and believe he is still alive, and it waiting for the Day of Judgment. Selassie, to
Rastafarians, is divine. Rastafarians don t believe in the afterlife, but call upon Africa (or to
Rastafarians as Zion) to be their Heaven on Earth. Rastafarians believe in the Old Testament, and
biblical figures such as Moses and Elijah. Though, Rastafarians, have their own version of the Bible,
which they call the Holy Piby (Black Man s Bible). The Holy Piby was published in 1924, by Robert

Question 1 Why do you think that Roberto Goizueta switched from a strategy that emphasized

By having this strategy, his focused was on increasing profitability and profit growth by reaping the
cost reduction that comes from economic of scale, learning effects and location economies. Douglas
Daft has taken different approach by taking localization approach strategy. In this approach Daft has
given back the autonomy power to the Country Manager to decide for any changes that was suit to
customer s expectation. The strategy taken by Daft was not really successful because even though he
managed to meet the customers requirement by customizing the product but actually in total the
company gained lesser profitability and profit growth due to higher cost per unit of products produced.
Question 3 How would you characterize the strategy Coke is now pursuing? What is the enterprise
trying to do? How is this different from the Goizueta and Daft? What are the benefits? What are the
potential costs and risk? Answer 3 I believe that Coke is now trying to pursue transnational Strategy as
it has been practiced by many multinational companies like Procter and Gamble, Xerox and etc.
Goizueta s approach was on Global Strategy and Daft s approach was more on localization strategy.
The transnational Strategy actually is a combination of both Global and Localization Strategy. The
firm seeks to combine the benefits of global scale efficiencies with the benefits of local
responsiveness.

My Passion For Field Hockey
From coach: I would describe you as a real team player someone who can be counted on to always do
her best, keep her commitments, and to rise to the occasion when needed. You lead by example with
your teammates, and continuously show that it is never too late to try something new, work hard at it,
and have success. You do this all with care for those around you and passion for being your best self. I
know for a fact that you inspire those around you with these qualities. I hope you agree with this
assessment and know how glad we are to have you as part of the Burnaby Bears community.
Tell us about who you are. How would your family, friends, and/or members of your community
describe you? If possible, please include something about yourself that you are most proud of and
why. (maximum 250 words)
Growing up as a shy girl, I stayed away from team sports; however, through joining Moscrop s field
hockey team, I developed skills which helped boost my confidence. As my passion for field hockey
grew, so did my involvement, as I proceeded to join the Burnaby Junior and Women s Leagues. This is
where I learned communication and cooperation within a team dynamic. The determination I found
deep within to push through and drive the ball through the opposing team s stick made me discover a
part of myself which I did not know existed yet which is essential for all pursuits. Due to this
resilience, my coaches trust me to fill other positions while teammates are away, allowing me to

What We Learn From Kendrick Lemar s At Pimp A Butterfly

What We Learn From Kendrick Lemar s To Pimp A Butterfly
Life is a jungle, a beautiful, colorful landscape, often painted with harsh conflict and oppression.
Navigating forward requires keeping healthy relationships with the community and those close to you,
maintaining focus on your true identity, and not losing sight of larger than life goals. These ideals are
the message that Kendrick Lamar wishes to bestow upon whomever experiences his latest album, To
Pimp A Butterfly.
Kendrick s story originates in Compton, a jungle at its core, where he learned that survival depends on
working with others and keeping intact with your roots. Because of the harsh living environment and
unavoidable presence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to Tupac, Kendrick wanted to demonstrate characteristics of a great leader so he too could be
an example for his people.
Unfortunately, the excessive fame and separation from Compton came with harsh consequences:
Kendrick began to struggle with keeping in touch with his roots, and the ideals that hoisted him to the
throne. He expresses these emotions in the track Momma, where he states how he knows everything
about life, but goes on to realize that after reaching stardom, he may be out of touch with his roots and
all he knew. Throughout the rest of To Pimp A Butterfly, we find out he felt lost in the cocoon a
metaphor for the grasp media has on society, and desperately began to cling to his true identity as a
way to break free from the cocoon s bounds. Eventually, Kendrick emerges as a butterfly, wanting to
return home and teach all the caterpillars what he learned.
For Kendrick, African American oppression and Compton s black on black crime is at the forefront of
his frustration, and a prime inspiration for his need to teach the community about working together.
On the track simply called I , a live recording, Kendrick is heard calling out to a crowd to join
together. Unfortunately, his message seems to initially fall on deaf ears. Instead of listening, the crowd
continues to fight over how to fix the problems in their community, rather than unite to fight them
together. As he continues to speak, the crowd becomes quieter, and Kendrick goes on to condemn

The Pros And Cons Of Atomic Bombing
The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are encased in one of the most controversial
presidential decisions of America s history. The war on the European front was coming to an end, but
Japan still held a firm fighting position against the Allied Powers. With each Japanese island the U.S.
Army seized, American casualties increased. As the supply of American soldiers dwindled, alternative
solutions had to be discussed before proceeding with one of the most costly invasions America would
undertake. America s chief priorities consisted of victoriously ending the war in the shortest time
possible, and saving the most lives Japanese and American alike. The only possible way to meet this
was through the use of atomic energy. If it were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was about what could shock the Japanese into thinking their pride meant little to nothing. At this
point, war was no longer about physical strength, but instead about intelligence, and the real fear of
losing everything. With conventional warfare Japan thought they had a chance to win, or at least
severely damage America, no matter how bad Japanese losses were. When an entirely new age of
weaponry was unleashed onto Japan, they simply submitted within a few days. World War II was
officially over, and millions of lives were saved in the process of using atomic energy. Since other
nations gained knowledge of the atomic process, it only made sense for America to use the bomb.
Although the war was over, powerful nations would now be arming themselves to the teeth with new
age atomic weapons, in order to not be vulnerable like Japan. The controversy of whether it was moral
to use the atomic bomb is ill conceived on two aspects: 1. The bomb saved millions of lives despite
the hundreds of thousands that died as a result, and were dying every day to air raids much like Tokyo.
2. Atomic energy was widely known throughout the world, so it was only a race to determine which
nations mastered the process first. There was no other better way America could have handled the
situation without losing the lives of

Native American Mascots Should Be Changed
In the recent years the media has sparked a controversy weather names such as the Redskins should be
changed and this debate still rages on because there is no clear cut answer. I am on the side that Native
American mascots should not be changed. First, Native American people see this as a chance for
dialogue and conflict resolution. Next, This gives people to have an insight on Native American
culture. Finally, many Native Americans feel that the names are not offensive.
Native Americans see this issue of mascots as a topic that needs discussion. This discussion is seen by
Native Americans as a way to learn about their culture as written by Paul Lukas in an interview with
Frank Cloutier, a Native American man,
What if a high school or university wasn t interested in doing these types of cultural exchanges and
educational efforts? What would your feelings be about their use of Native imagery?
It would be completely different. If they re not willing to celebrate and show the culture, they shouldn
t have the privilege of depicting it.
What about states that have already banned all Native imagery from their high schools, like Wisconsin
and Oregon?

Their proposal of changing the name and mascot can be seen as a form of censorship and this now is a
violation of the first amendment. From here the issue becomes an argument of of intent, and names
like the Redskins are not intended to be hateful they are meant to be seen as exactly that a mascot, a
figure that can be rallied about or around, not to have a hateful intent. To be censored as they see fit
this would have to fall under hate speech and to be this hate speech you have to have a hateful intent,
therefore it is not hate speech and does not have to censored and should stay how it is because they

Steven Crane s Role in the Literary Revolution and an...
If it takes a revolutionary to topple the general way of thinking, Stephen Crane is that revolutionary
for American literature. The dominant literary movement before Crane s time, Romanticism,
originated in Germany and England as a response to classicism and soon dispersed worldwide.
(McKay 766). Romanticism stressed the power of the human conscience and the intensity of emotion.
It was essentially a spiritual movement, fiercely conflicting with the rigid rules and standards of
classicism and the restraint of the Enlightenment. The belief that all humans embodied a unique
greatness was widespread. Further along in history, however, came a man who sought to destroy this
confident idea from his despondent circumstances. Disenchanted by the ... Show more content on

Crane s literary skills were also influenced from a very early age; his brother was a newspaper
columnist who lived with him at home during his youth (Szumski 14). Similarly, his parents were
educated and civic minded, used to making persuasive speeches, admirers and cultivators of the
spoken word (Szumski 14). Even while being raised in an environment with such high moral
expectations, Crane soon displayed signs of independence. He dropped out of Methodist boarding
school to attend a military academy, where he developed an interest for poker and baseball, according
to colleague Harvey Wickham (Szumski 14). Following a life path deviating more and more from his
family s traditionalist beliefs of faith and purity, it is clear that through these factors Crane would hone
his literary skills to combat traditional norms. Crane s decision to write a story in a context (the Civil
War) with which he had no experience showed that this stemmed from his desire to dissect the
philosophy of individualism in a setting where no societal influences exist. The fact that he also does
not mention the meaning of the war and its battles demonstrates his desire to make an Everyman of
Henry: he is any young man of any era facing a trial by fire in any battle (Johnson 25). The
groundbreaking theories of Charles Darwin, an English naturalist of his time, influenced Crane s
attack on individualism. Darwinism s implications questioned orthodox religious

Macbeth, By William Shakespeare
In Shakespeare s time, supernatural entities, such as witches or ghosts, were to be feared. It was a
point in history of extremely superstitious people, where women were burned at the stake for being
accused of using magic. At odds with the beliefs of his time, Shakespeare uses the supernatural in a
very logical way, providing a glimpse into his characters unique dispositions through the use of
witches, ghosts, or magic to represent their internal thoughts and struggles. Each play deals with
corruption and morality as a main themes, which are enhanced by the otherworldly elements within
their respective stories. Macbeth focuses on the corruption of unchecked ambition and greed for
power, Hamlet considers the corruption of power and the repercussions of action in the pursuit of true
knowledge and justice, and The Tempest outlines the exploitation of magic on others, or the use of
others for gain by a person of power, and the illusion of justice. Through the use of the supernatural,
Shakespeare provides an external driving force that highlights internal ideas or desires, and provides
insight into the character s mindset throughout each storyline. The supernatural elements of Macbeth,
Hamlet, and The Tempest serve as integral parts to the structure of the plot, and provide the driving
force of their respective stories. Each respective character the metaphysical element interacts with has
internal ambitions for power or revenge, but without the validation of Macbeth s

Political Changes And Indicators Of Political Risk Essay
3. Political Changes and Indicators of Political Risk in Egypt
As mentioned before, components of political risk index are divided into six sub indicators. This
section examines changes in political risks sub indicators as a response to political changes and the
mutual relationship between the six sub indicators that form political risk index in Egypt.
3.1 Behavior of and Changes in Political Risks Sub Indicators
Figure (1) shows that indicators of political risk have had noticeable changes especially after 25th of
January revolution except for government effectiveness and control of corruption indicators which
stayed at levels 0.5 and 0.33 respectively during the considered period. The following points
summarize the performance of political risks sub indicators as a response to political changes in
Egypt. An indicator with points near to 1 indicates a relatively very low risk indicator, while an
indicator with points near to 0 indicates a relatively very high risk indicator.
The most vulnerable and risky indicator of political risks sub indicators is voice and accountability
indicator, as points awarded to this indicator were always below 0.5 and hence it is always located in
very high risk zone. Prior to 25th of January (from 2006 to 2010), the indicator recorded 0.4 average
points and during revolutions period this average points has been dropped to 0.24. Voice and
accountability indicator recorded average points 0.33 during the whole considered period

Q3: How the 7 Eleven stores in Taiwan compare with their counterparts in the US?
The first Taiwanese 7 Eleven store was launched by PCSC in 1980. As the local franchisee, PCSC
kept the store logo and the core of convenience store concept that was well established in America. By
contrast, other aspects of the store chain had been re formatted. For the layout, 7 Eleven in Taiwan had
smaller average store area of 700 m2, only a quarter of that in the US. In terms of product offerings,
despite providing basic daily use products as the US model, the Taiwanese 7 Eleven stores also served
local common foods such as tea egg, luwei and biandang. Furthermore, innovative services were the
distinctive traits of Taiwanese 7 Eleven. In spite of the high level of operations, PCSC also extended
the concept of customer convenience to the information technology(IT). For example, 7 Eleven in
Taiwan introduced e commerce (i Bon reserve train or opera tickets), e payment (i Cash), mobile
communications (phone cards and the Internet) , pickup and delivery (books and auction items).

82 days and included 21 patients (3 days after diagnosis) and 32, (within 30 days of being diagnosed.
These subjects were injected with two different variations of Anakinra. After around 14.5 months,
Nigrovic says that improvement was a fast positive improvement. 25 out of 29 patients fever and rash
healed in about 1 2 days. 8 of 10 patients treated with only Anakinra did not require any additional
therapy after the trial. The specialists in this study associated Anakinra with positive outcomes.
(Nigrovic, P. A., et al., 2011) Another trial was used to see if Anakinra was safe to use in minors. 69%
of the test subjects responded to the medication while 31% did not. After figuring out weight based
exposure to Anakinra provided adequate exposure to the patients they concluded that Anakinra was a

Secularisation Of Religion In Australia Essay
The process of secularization arises not from the loss of faith but from the loss of social interest in the
world of faith. It begins the moment men feel that religion is irrelevant to the common way of life and
that society as such has nothing to do with the truths of faith. (Dawson Russello, 1998) Contemporary
society has exposed Australians of all ages to secularism making it vital that citizens adapt and
strengthen a personal and global conscience to keep fundamental religious values, morals and ethics
relevant. Humanity will prosper once there is a realization of the importance of a spiritual future. This
concept can truly be understood once society has a deep understanding for the secular dispute between
church versus state, the powerful depiction the media has of religion as well as the correlation between
secularism and immigration rates.
Within a secular society there are still cultural and social traditions that are established from
traditional religious beliefs and rituals. Most countries implement a dominate religion to which they

Ethical Theory Of Utilitarianism
In this essay, I will attempt to explore the ethical theory of Utilitarianism and the impression it has left
on me. The Utilitarian theory suggests that it is morally right to seek the greatest good for the greatest
number of people. The morally right act is the act which results in the most happiness for the people
of this world. Nature has placed mankind under the governance of two sovereign masters, pain and
pleasure. It is for them alone to point out what we ought to do. (Bentham quoted in Dupré, 2013:49)
Every person s individual actions must be done with the view that their actions will in turn result in
greater happiness, not just their own personal happiness but that of every person affected. The ethical
theory of utilitarianism was developed by Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill, who both practiced
philosophy and economics. Utilitarianism at first glance seems to have many positives and upsides,
but unfortunately no system is perfect, so it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is evident to me that it most definitely has its flaws. Although it has made an impression on me I am
left asking myself many questions. For example, does the end result always justify the means by
which it is achieved, even if harm is still put upon some people, they may not be the majority but they
are still human beings with feelings and emotion. And how can happiness be measured accurately?
The theory of utilitarianism is based on the idea that the action or choice that results in the greater
good should be carried out. But what is good? How can you measure and compare the goodness of
separate actions? Every individual will have a different perception on what good is depending on how
it will impact on their own personal lives. All our decisions are subjective, made in our own minds
influenced by our own personal feelings and emotions. This impressed me as the basis of what
utilitarianism is built upon cannot be

Canadian Prime Minister s Power
The prime minister has a significant amount of power within the Canadian government. Some of the
sources of the prime minister s powers are the number of seats in the House of Commons he and his
party has, his ability to give push/give priority to certain government agendas, and his ability to
appoint different governmental positions. For a politician to hold the office of PM his party must hold
the majority of the seats in the house; this means that by convention his party must be in solidarity
with his decisions, which gives the PM s the loyal support of his party. Another power of the PM is the
ability to put forward government agendas that they believe should be prioritized. The PM also has the

Swabia during the eleventh century. The name was taken from their ancestral home (the Burg
Hohenzollern Castle). The family split into two groups, the Catholic Swabian branch and the
Protestant Franconian branch. Hechingen was ruled by the Swabian branch until their extinction in
1869. The Franconian branch was comparatively more successful. Branches within the Franconian
branch ascended the throne of Margravate of Brandenburg in 1415 and of the Duchy of Prussia in
1525. The union of these two Franconian branches, in 1618, allowed the creation of the Kingdom of
Prussia in 1701, the state which led the unification of Germany and the creation of the German Empire
in 1871. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Schleswig in 1864 and the Austro Prussian War of 1866, and became the dominant power in the North
German Confederation. Following victory in the Franco Prussian War, William I was proclaimed
German Emperor in 1871, while retaining the title and powers of King of Prussia. His only son

Veterans Pros And Cons
Veterans Benefits:
A Disservice to Veterans as The Backlog Continues I WANT YOU FOR THE US ARMY was the
slogan on the most famous poster according to its creator James Montgomery Flagg. According to the
Library of Congress website This poster tells all of America to wake up and do their part for the war
effort (para. 5). This poster of Uncle Sam was used to call upon every man, woman, and child to
endure the personal sacrifice and domestic adjustments to further the national agenda. This
encouraged rationing, conservation and sacrifice. Uncle Sam spoke not only to the sacrifice of the
soldiers and families of World Wars I II but continued with the Korean War, the Vietnam War and into
the current day s wars and military service. According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
American veterans need more government funding because they have served their country with honor
and their benefits should be commensurate with the sacrifices that they and their families have made.
This delay is a tremendous strain on those who have medical problems due to their service to our
country. There are numerous medical issues that can be caused by the trauma of fighting in battle.
High blood pressure can be just as troubling as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). While the
effects might not be the same, the fact that an American citizen develops any type of medical problem
in service to this country supports the argument that we should be taking care of these veterans
medical issue as expeditiously as possible. In some cases the possibility of death exists. In an
investigation by CNN, Scott Bronstein and Drew Griffin found a tragic story. Seventy one year old
navy vet Thomas Breen was very proud of his military service and would only go to the VA for
treatment. On September 28, 2013 with blood in his urine and a history of cancer went to the VA
emergency room in Phoenix, Arizona where they examined him and sent him home. His family
obtained a chart that clearly stated the urgency of Thomas needing to see a urologist or a primary care
physician within one week. He did get an appointment with a rheumatologist for his

The Case Of The Two Girls
The Case of the Two Girls
There were two girls, they were best friends, in their school having classes, all normally. But when the
classes finished they decided, instead going the way they always go to their homes, to go another way
to their homes. It was all right, right now. They saw that two persons were lost and the two persons
told the two girls to guide them to their home, because they were new in the city and they didn t know
the avenues and the streets.
When the two girls arrived to the house of the two persons, they tell the two girls thank you and then
they said that they had to go to their homes, because their families could be worried about them (the
two girls). The girls thought they were good people, but they weren t; they ... Show more content on

They make another called to say them that if they don t have the money in 24 hours, they were going
to kill the two girls.
After they make the call, the police track again that call and knew the place where the girls and the
kidnappers were staying.
The police make contact with the families of the girls and they told them where their girls were
staying.
Finally the police rescue the girls and they arrested the kidnappers, without money of the families.
When this happened, the girls were very excited and happy, that they found them, could see again
their family, and all will be normal again.
At the end the two families celebrated that the girls were in home and they were saved; and they
thanked the person that told them where the girls were around. They decided to make a picnic to
celebrate that they were saved.
From that on, the girls decided that they will not use another way to go home, only the one that is
easier and safer. Also to obey their parents, so that wouldn t happen again. And the girls were always
the best friends for ever.

Lincoln s Plan For Reconstruction Essay
Abraham Lincoln is credited to be the reason the Union won the civil war. His death and lack of
leadership, rise of the radical republican power, and southern refusal to accept northern policies can
arguably be the reason reconstruction failed. After the Union won the war the next task to be
addressed was how to readmit the south into the union. Lincoln set the standard in his 1865 second
inaugural address stating malice towards none, and charity for all . These words would be remembered
in the following years as people, like Johnson, look to Lincoln s ideals during the reconstruction years.
Lincoln s plan for reconstruction supported the idea of a strongly governed united country. Lincoln
was one of the few to recognize that one needed to look past personal glory, and instead, do what was
best for the country as a whole (Herman Belz pg.5). However, because of Lincoln s untimely
assassination in 1865, the newly re formed United States was left in the hands ... Show more content

They saw the acts as a blatant attempt to end their standard of living (Franklin pg72). The south found
ways to avoid the new laws passed, such as the creation of share cropping instead of slavery. Also the
use of intimidation groups like the Ku Klux Klan to scare the newly freed black population and
discourage their participation in the voting process (Franklin pg.68).
The post civil war reconstruction effort was hindered greatly by the unrest in the government. The
country desperately needed leadership to gain unity, but instead there was conflict at the highest level
of leadership, making it impossible for the north and south to unify quickly. The many acts imposed
by the radical republicans during this period contributed to the unrest of the south and ultimately the
failure of post civil war reconstitution in the United States.

Frank And Mustard
Frank and Mustard gather the historical information from the sixteenth century and note that the
authorities during this period recognized that famines were man made rather than natural disasters not
because food was not available but because of the lower classes inability to obtain it or gain access to
it (p.3). The state interfered, which angered farmers, producers, and merchants and contributed to the
grievance against Charles I and the Civil War. The Tutor Stuart program of food relief, this policy
change subjected England to nearly two centuries of periodic famines, food riots because of
distribution and not production (p.4).

The decrease in mortality rates over the over the past 150 yrs. has been attributed to four factors
according to the UN report in 1953. Those factors are; 1) public health measures;2) advances in
medical knowledge and therapeutics;3) improved personal hygiene; and 4) improved standard of
living (p.5). Mckeown and Brown s attempts at understanding why health improved, explored factors
which influenced the major decline in mortality rates in the United Kingdom after 1840 (p.5). They
cited a large decline in mortality from airborne diseases, water and sanitation systems in the 1800 s
and finally concluded that the decrease in mortality was due to improved prosperity and nutrition
(p.5). These factors are discussed in modern times as Dr. Steven Woolf gave his testimony to the U.S.
Senate in 2013, that as an example, 68% of American adults have income that is more than twice the
poverty level. Suppose we boosted that number just slightly, from 68% to 70% and looked at the
impact on one disease diabetes. That higher income would mean about 400 million fewer cases of
diabetes saving $2 billion per year to treat that disease (p.1). Increasing income contributes to lower
health issues and chronic disease. The applied simplistic equation of increased income decreased
health issues is phenomenal, but why are we a society in which inequalities in health still

Bicycle Thieves Essay
Bicycle Thieves (1948) is the story of a father and his desperate search for his stolen bicycle, without
which he faces poverty and an inability to support his young family. The film was directed by Vittorio
De Sica, who co wrote the screenplay with Cesare Zavattini, based on the novel of the same name by
Luigi Bartolini. André Bazin (1971) notably champions the view that it is a true masterpiece of Italian
neorealism, to which it was a relative late comer, in fact he insists that De Sica had reignited the
aesthetic of neorealism, breathing new life into what he felt was a struggling movement.1 In many
ways, his assertion was true, with the likes of Rossellini and Visconti continuing to produce additions
to the canon, De Sica again contributing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This produces an almost documentary like aesthetic, layering the fiction with a sense of honest reality;
the camera feels like a spectator placed in the environment, reflecting the ambience of documentaries.
Similarly, in Bicycle Thieves, the use of location shooting produces a similar result; the busy Sunday
market, the search by the Tiber, Antonio s failed theft outside of the stadium; all of these scenes carry
an atmosphere of actuality. Bicycle Thieves succeeds as a realist film here, the use of real location
lends a sense of authenticity to the aesthetic quality of the film. While it may not have the same raw
delivery as Rome, Open City, which was haphazardly shot during the liberation of Italy, we are still
presented with a cinematography and mise en scene which respects the reality it is attempting to
portray. Bicycle Thieves prospers in this sense, the simple journey through Rome over the course of
the film does not exploit the wonders of the ancient city. De Sica purposefully shows us the streets we
are not familiar with, the parts of the city which belong to its people, not its internationally recognized

1. Hawken, Heal and others discuss the facts that the market doesn t deal well with the differences

The two possible approaches to addressing externalities explained by economists Pigou and Coarse
are cost incorporation and bargaining.
Under Pigous approach, he discusses that creators of pollution did not bear the full costs of production
of the environmental and damages they have produced. Pigou studied the inadequacies that came from

of government and business. What ideas do they have in common? What do you think about what they

The meaning of Restoring the Guardian is essentials to protect our environment and society, and not
change to the desires of businesses.
Hawken suggest that the government has been taken over by commerce, and this is causing
detrimental damages to the environment and societies. For instance, Libby folks were a prime
example of the lack of government control. The ramifications were irreversible and many Folks

Jared Diamond s argument that our attitude toward government may actually compromise the quality

government s involvement in executing laws on zoning boundaries, they are diminishing natural

Just like what I discuss in last section, to train employees with professional skills and ethical thoughts
are the same important criteria. In cloud computing era, everyone is given more or less permissions or
access of company information stored in cloud system. How to deal with such information is an
interesting part. Although employees will sign a confidentiality contract with company, it is not for
sure that every employee will keep the standards stated in confidentiality contract. So employees with
permission to touch company information would be the first risk factor in cloud computing. The
second risk factor in this case would be the information technology staff. The company of our size
have suffered cyber attacks almost every day, an employee of JP Morgan Chase, Patricia Wexler, said
in an email. Enterprises are vulnerable to hacker attacks from multiple sources. After scanning
network of JP Morgan, computer security researchers discovered a malicious software that could steal
sensitive data in JP Morgan Hong Kong and India office. The researchers also found that, in July
2014, JP Morgan s Hong Kong office network infected malware Zeus Trojan, which can steal banking
credentials. In addition, JP Morgan India office website was also found to be infected by computer

The Viewer Is The Witness In Night And Fog
How the Viewer is the Witness in Night and Fog Alain Resnais Night and Fog is a Holocaust
documentary shot in 1955 that served as a lens into the hellish landscape of the Holocaust. It was shot
with footage of the Holocaust combined with a voiceover narration that provides a detailed look into
the horrors of the Holocaust. The film proved to be a success but it struggled through censorship due
to its inherent gruesome nature. This is because the film uses various techniques in such a way that the
viewer of the film feel that they themselves have become witnesses of these tragedies, as opposed to
just being a viewer of a documentary about the Holocaust, thus making the viewer experience of the
film much more impactful. Traditional documentaries use interviews and first hand witness accounts
to tell the story, but Night and Fog does not. It presents everything objectively and lets the powerful,
fast paced cinematography and narration tell the story. Another technique used is the rapid
juxtaposition shots from the past and present, thus giving the film a sense of timelessness. The last
technique used is toward the end when the narrator asks the harrowing question whether or not ...

Night and Fog refrains from all of this, and accomplishes its goal of educating about the Holocaust by
simply showing horror after horror after horror of the Holocaust, giving the viewer no time to digest
and process the information. Without anytime for the viewer to breathe, the fast pace makes for a truly
painful viewing experience which is precisely what the director intended. Some documentaries might
refrain from the utmost revolting of content for fear of deterring their viewers but Night and Fog never
censors the unquestionable reality of the past. Even though the film is only half an hour long, this
stylization allows the film to encompass plenty of information about the

There is a strong connection between the senses and the formation of our perception. Traditionally, the
sense categories are known as sight, smell, sound, taste and touch. The modern perspective views the
senses as systems in which information about our external world is acquired; visual, auditory,
olfactory, gestation and haptic (tactile) systems. Architecture in the sense of environmental design is
the art of nourishing these senses. In order to receive information from the environment, each sense
organ is part of a sensory system which receives and transmits sensory information to the brain. How
the human body engages space is of prime importance; as the human body moves, sees, smells,

The smell receptors interact with the molecules of these vapors and transmit sensations to the brain.
We need only a little amount of molecules of substance to trigger an impulse of smell in a nerve end,
and we can smell more than ten thousand different scents. If it is a new scent it is possible to
remember the scent and identify it again later. The scent captures one s memory of the place; the nose
makes the eyes remember. For the blind people, the sense of smell can help awareness of one s
location. Odour can also relate to hunger and the desire to consume. Since it is not possible to name all
the odours, spatial qualities or experiences are often associated with scents. Positive experiences of
smell can be used in design to induce positive memories or associations to a space, while negative
smells can do the opposite. Bringing certain smells into a designed space can immediately stimulate
emotions, guide us, or distract us. Designer Valerie Trent cites research that connects smell and
memory; People can often recall aromas from childhood or a distinctive odor they ve only smelled
once. Whatever your particular nose prefers, smells do enhance comfort and

Essay on The Corruption of the American Dream in The Great...
On April 10, 1925 F. Scott Fitzgerald published The Great Gatsby, a novel that would later become
one of the best known pieces of classic literature in history. However, at the time of its publication,
Gatsby was fairly unpopular ad the reviews were never consistent. As shocking as it may seem, I
believe it is because Fitzgerald s intelligence and creativity levels were way ahead of his time, which
is evident when one pays close attention to the themes of the novel. Forgiveness, love, and memory of
the past are just a few themes you will come across in this story. Aside from these, there is one other
theme that is much more dominant and could possibly have been the cause of The Great Gatsby s
slight lack of initial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you were, or are, one of those who feel this way you believe that if one does not own the fanciest
clothes, the fastest cars, or the most extravagant house then they simply are not living the American
dream. This materialistic aspect completely disregards happiness, family, and moral values. It is also
the aspect that Fitzgerald seems to focus on the most with The Great Gatsby. In the novel, the main
character, Jay Gatsby is most definitely living the American dream in the sense of materialism. He was
never seen wearing less than the best of suits, and even seeing his shirts drove his love interest, Daisy
to tears. They re such beautiful shirts...I ve never seen such beautiful shirts (Fitzgerald, p. 98). His
mansion was described as looking like the World s fair when he was throwing one of his thrilling
parties. Although the only information Fitzgerald gives us about Gatsby s car is that it was a Rolls
Royce (pg. 35), that is enough to tell us he was not lacking in the fastest cars area. As for the
fundamentally based ideas of the American dream, Jay Gatsby has only a few of them covered. He is
certainly wealthy and prosperous. And if the fact that he can host a party, have the entire town attend,
and repeat every weekend without ever showing his face does not scream high social status , I don t
know what does! The part of this fundamental aspect that Mr. Gatsby is lacking is a family and
happiness.

Labor Unions And The Labor Union
Every year in this country, there are major labor disputes that result in strikes or work stoppages. In
each case, the organization, the labor union, and the public are negatively affected. Why can t there be
a better way of resolving disputes between the management and labor unions to avert unnecessary
strikes? Why does the relationship between the labor unions and management have to be adversarial in
nature? Does anybody benefit from strikes and work stoppages? These are some of the questions that I
will explore in this study. Firstly, it will seem that the management and the labor union of any
organization have a stake in the success or failure of that organization. The success of the organization
has to be the priority or the number one goal of any member or members of the organization. As such,
the entire organization has to work as a team in order to succeed, thrive and survive. In the real world,
that is not what is happening. As a matter of fact, the labor unions and the management of some
organizations see each other as adversaries. MTA Strike of Year 2000 The year 2000 saw a disastrous
labor strikes in Los Angeles County. The United Transportation Union (a labor union) of The
Metropolitan Transportation Authority of Southern California (MTA) went on strike that lasted for
almost six weeks. A lot of people thought that the strike was unnecessary and could have been
avoided. The management of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority of Southern

(Rastafari, 2015) Rastafarianism is commonly said to be founded on November 2nd, 1930, but was based on the movement started in the 1920s. Rastafarianism was founded in Jamaica, by Marcus Garvey, who was a black Jamaican teacher in the 1920s, and who had been considered a representative figure of John the Baptist. Those who believe in Rastafarianism can be identified as Rastafarians, Rastafaris, Rastas, or Ras Tafarians. Rastafarians have their own representation of Jesus, whom they refer to as Jah. Jah was the black version of Jesus, whom they believe is Emperor Haile Selassie. Rastafarians, referred to Selassie as H.I.M (him), and believe he is still alive, and it waiting for the Day of Judgment. Selassie, to Rastafarians, is divine. Rastafarians don t believe in the afterlife, but call upon Africa (or to Rastafarians as Zion) to be their Heaven on Earth. Rastafarians believe in the Old Testament, and biblical figures such as Moses and Elijah. Though, Rastafarians, have their own version of the Bible, which they call the Holy Piby (Black Man s Bible). By having this strategy, his focused was on increasing profitability and profit growth by reaping the cost reduction that comes from economic of scale, learning effects and location economies. Douglas Daft has taken different approach by taking localization approach strategy. In this approach Daft has given back the autonomy power to the Country Manager to decide for any changes that was suit to customer s expectation. The strategy taken by Daft was not really successful because even though he managed to meet the customers requirement by customizing the product but actually in total the company gained lesser profitability and profit growth due to higher cost per unit of products produced. Question 3 How would you characterize the strategy Coke is now pursuing? What is the enterprise trying to do? How is this different from the Goizueta and Daft? What are the benefits? What are the potential costs and risk? Answer 3 I believe that Coke is now trying to pursue transnational Strategy as it has been practiced by many multinational companies like Procter and Gamble, Xerox and etc. Goizueta s approach was on Global Strategy and Daft s approach was more on localization strategy. The transnational Strategy actually is a combination of both Global and Localization Strategy. • 4. My Passion For Field Hockey From coach: I would describe you as a real team player someone who can be counted on to always do her best, keep her commitments, and to rise to the occasion when needed. You lead by example with your teammates, and continuously show that it is never too late to try something new, work hard at it, and have success. You do this all with care for those around you and passion for being your best self. I know for a fact that you inspire those around you with these qualities. I hope you agree with this assessment and know how glad we are to have you as part of the Burnaby Bears community. Tell us about who you are. How would your family, friends, and/or members of your community describe you? If possible, please include something about yourself that you are most proud of and why. (maximum 250 words) Growing up as a shy girl, I stayed away from team sports; however, through joining Moscrop s field hockey team, I developed skills which helped boost my confidence. As my passion for field hockey grew, so did my involvement, as I proceeded to join the Burnaby Junior and Women s Leagues. This is where I learned communication and cooperation within a team dynamic. The determination I found deep within to push through and drive the ball through the opposing team s stick made me discover a part of myself which I did not know existed yet which is essential for all pursuits. • 5. What We Learn From Kendrick Lemar s At Pimp A Butterfly James Powell Ben Pack WRIT 340 31 March 2015 What We Learn From Kendrick Lemar s To Pimp A Butterfly Life is a jungle, a beautiful, colorful landscape, often painted with harsh conflict and oppression. Navigating forward requires keeping healthy relationships with the community and those close to you, maintaining focus on your true identity, and not losing sight of larger than life goals. These ideals are the message that Kendrick Lamar wishes to bestow upon whomever experiences his latest album, To Pimp A Butterfly. Kendrick s story originates in Compton, a jungle at its core, where he learned that survival depends on working with others and keeping intact with your roots. Because of the harsh living environment and unavoidable presence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similar to Tupac, Kendrick wanted to demonstrate characteristics of a great leader so he too could be an example for his people. Unfortunately, the excessive fame and separation from Compton came with harsh consequences: Kendrick began to struggle with keeping in touch with his roots, and the ideals that hoisted him to the throne. He expresses these emotions in the track Momma, where he states how he knows everything about life, but goes on to realize that after reaching stardom, he may be out of touch with his roots and all he knew. Throughout the rest of To Pimp A Butterfly, we find out he felt lost in the cocoon a metaphor for the grasp media has on society, and desperately began to cling to his true identity as a way to break free from the cocoon s bounds. Eventually, Kendrick emerges as a butterfly, wanting to return home and teach all the caterpillars what he learned. For Kendrick, African American oppression and Compton s black on black crime is at the forefront of his frustration, and a prime inspiration for his need to teach the community about working together. On the track simply called I , a live recording, Kendrick is heard calling out to a crowd to join together. Unfortunately, his message seems to initially fall on deaf ears. Instead of listening, the crowd continues to fight over how to fix the problems in their community, rather than unite to fight them together. As he continues to speak, the crowd becomes quieter, and Kendrick goes on to condemn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Pros And Cons Of Atomic Bombing The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are encased in one of the most controversial presidential decisions of America s history. The war on the European front was coming to an end, but Japan still held a firm fighting position against the Allied Powers. With each Japanese island the U.S. Army seized, American casualties increased. As the supply of American soldiers dwindled, alternative solutions had to be discussed before proceeding with one of the most costly invasions America would undertake. America s chief priorities consisted of victoriously ending the war in the shortest time possible, and saving the most lives Japanese and American alike. The only possible way to meet this was through the use of atomic energy. If it were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was about what could shock the Japanese into thinking their pride meant little to nothing. At this point, war was no longer about physical strength, but instead about intelligence, and the real fear of losing everything. With conventional warfare Japan thought they had a chance to win, or at least severely damage America, no matter how bad Japanese losses were. When an entirely new age of weaponry was unleashed onto Japan, they simply submitted within a few days. World War II was officially over, and millions of lives were saved in the process of using atomic energy. Since other nations gained knowledge of the atomic process, it only made sense for America to use the bomb. Although the war was over, powerful nations would now be arming themselves to the teeth with new age atomic weapons, in order to not be vulnerable like Japan. The controversy of whether it was moral to use the atomic bomb is ill conceived on two aspects: 1. The bomb saved millions of lives despite the hundreds of thousands that died as a result, and were dying every day to air raids much like Tokyo. 2. Atomic energy was widely known throughout the world, so it was only a race to determine which nations mastered the process first. There was no other better way America could have handled the situation without losing the lives of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Native American Mascots Should Be Changed In the recent years the media has sparked a controversy weather names such as the Redskins should be changed and this debate still rages on because there is no clear cut answer. I am on the side that Native American mascots should not be changed. First, Native American people see this as a chance for dialogue and conflict resolution. Next, This gives people to have an insight on Native American culture. Finally, many Native Americans feel that the names are not offensive. Native Americans see this issue of mascots as a topic that needs discussion. This discussion is seen by Native Americans as a way to learn about their culture as written by Paul Lukas in an interview with Frank Cloutier, a Native American man, What if a high school or university wasn t interested in doing these types of cultural exchanges and educational efforts? What would your feelings be about their use of Native imagery? It would be completely different. If they re not willing to celebrate and show the culture, they shouldn t have the privilege of depicting it. From here the issue becomes an argument of of intent, and names like the Redskins are not intended to be hateful they are meant to be seen as exactly that a mascot, a figure that can be rallied about or around, not to have a hateful intent. • 9. Steven Crane s Role in the Literary Revolution and an... If it takes a revolutionary to topple the general way of thinking, Stephen Crane is that revolutionary for American literature. The dominant literary movement before Crane s time, Romanticism, originated in Germany and England as a response to classicism and soon dispersed worldwide. (McKay 766). Romanticism stressed the power of the human conscience and the intensity of emotion. It was essentially a spiritual movement, fiercely conflicting with the rigid rules and standards of classicism and the restraint of the Enlightenment. The belief that all humans embodied a unique greatness was widespread. Further along in history, however, came a man who sought to destroy this confident idea from his despondent circumstances. Disenchanted by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Crane s literary skills were also influenced from a very early age; his brother was a newspaper columnist who lived with him at home during his youth (Szumski 14). Similarly, his parents were educated and civic minded, used to making persuasive speeches, admirers and cultivators of the spoken word (Szumski 14). Even while being raised in an environment with such high moral expectations, Crane soon displayed signs of independence. He dropped out of Methodist boarding school to attend a military academy, where he developed an interest for poker and baseball, according to colleague Harvey Wickham (Szumski 14). Following a life path deviating more and more from his family s traditionalist beliefs of faith and purity, it is clear that through these factors Crane would hone his literary skills to combat traditional norms. Crane s decision to write a story in a context (the Civil War) with which he had no experience showed that this stemmed from his desire to dissect the philosophy of individualism in a setting where no societal influences exist. The fact that he also does not mention the meaning of the war and its battles demonstrates his desire to make an Everyman of Henry: he is any young man of any era facing a trial by fire in any battle (Johnson 25). The groundbreaking theories of Charles Darwin, an English naturalist of his time, influenced Crane s attack on individualism. Darwinism s implications questioned orthodox religious ... • 11. Macbeth, By William Shakespeare In Shakespeare s time, supernatural entities, such as witches or ghosts, were to be feared. It was a point in history of extremely superstitious people, where women were burned at the stake for being accused of using magic. At odds with the beliefs of his time, Shakespeare uses the supernatural in a very logical way, providing a glimpse into his characters unique dispositions through the use of witches, ghosts, or magic to represent their internal thoughts and struggles. Each play deals with corruption and morality as a main themes, which are enhanced by the otherworldly elements within their respective stories. Macbeth focuses on the corruption of unchecked ambition and greed for power, Hamlet considers the corruption of power and the repercussions of action in the pursuit of true knowledge and justice, and The Tempest outlines the exploitation of magic on others, or the use of others for gain by a person of power, and the illusion of justice. Through the use of the supernatural, Shakespeare provides an external driving force that highlights internal ideas or desires, and provides insight into the character s mindset throughout each storyline. The supernatural elements of Macbeth, Hamlet, and The Tempest serve as integral parts to the structure of the plot, and provide the driving force of their respective stories. Political Changes and Indicators of Political Risk in Egypt As mentioned before, components of political risk index are divided into six sub indicators. This section examines changes in political risks sub indicators as a response to political changes and the mutual relationship between the six sub indicators that form political risk index in Egypt. 3.1 Behavior of and Changes in Political Risks Sub Indicators Figure (1) shows that indicators of political risk have had noticeable changes especially after 25th of January revolution except for government effectiveness and control of corruption indicators which stayed at levels 0.5 and 0.33 respectively during the considered period. The following points summarize the performance of political risks sub indicators as a response to political changes in Egypt. An indicator with points near to 1 indicates a relatively very low risk indicator, while an indicator with points near to 0 indicates a relatively very high risk indicator. The most vulnerable and risky indicator of political risks sub indicators is voice and accountability indicator, as points awarded to this indicator were always below 0.5 and hence it is always located in very high risk zone. As the local franchisee, PCSC kept the store logo and the core of convenience store concept that was well established in America. By contrast, other aspects of the store chain had been re formatted. • 16. Secularisation Of Religion In Australia Essay The process of secularization arises not from the loss of faith but from the loss of social interest in the world of faith. It begins the moment men feel that religion is irrelevant to the common way of life and that society as such has nothing to do with the truths of faith. (Dawson Russello, 1998) Contemporary society has exposed Australians of all ages to secularism making it vital that citizens adapt and strengthen a personal and global conscience to keep fundamental religious values, morals and ethics relevant. Humanity will prosper once there is a realization of the importance of a spiritual future. This concept can truly be understood once society has a deep understanding for the secular dispute between church versus state, the powerful depiction the media has of religion as well as the correlation between secularism and immigration rates. • 19. Ethical Theory Of Utilitarianism In this essay, I will attempt to explore the ethical theory of Utilitarianism and the impression it has left on me. The Utilitarian theory suggests that it is morally right to seek the greatest good for the greatest number of people. The morally right act is the act which results in the most happiness for the people of this world. Nature has placed mankind under the governance of two sovereign masters, pain and pleasure. It is for them alone to point out what we ought to do. (Bentham quoted in Dupré, 2013:49) Every person s individual actions must be done with the view that their actions will in turn result in greater happiness, not just their own personal happiness but that of every person affected. The ethical theory of utilitarianism was developed by Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill, who both practiced philosophy and economics. And how can happiness be measured accurately? The theory of utilitarianism is based on the idea that the action or choice that results in the greater good should be carried out. But what is good? How can you measure and compare the goodness of separate actions? Every individual will have a different perception on what good is depending on how it will impact on their own personal lives. My paper is based on this and includes two people whom I think were the most effective leaders within the royal family. The house of Hohenzollern is said to be a noble family and royal dynasty of prince electors, kings and emperors of Prussia, Germany, and Romania. Its origin is based from an area around the town of Hechingen in Swabia during the eleventh century. The name was taken from their ancestral home (the Burg Hohenzollern Castle). The family split into two groups, the Catholic Swabian branch and the Protestant Franconian branch. Hechingen was ruled by the Swabian branch until their extinction in 1869. The Franconian branch was comparatively more successful. Branches within the Franconian branch ascended the throne of Margravate of Brandenburg in 1415 and of the Duchy of Prussia in 1525. • 24. Lincoln s Plan For Reconstruction Essay Abraham Lincoln is credited to be the reason the Union won the civil war. His death and lack of leadership, rise of the radical republican power, and southern refusal to accept northern policies can arguably be the reason reconstruction failed. After the Union won the war the next task to be addressed was how to readmit the south into the union. Lincoln set the standard in his 1865 second inaugural address stating malice towards none, and charity for all . These words would be remembered in the following years as people, like Johnson, look to Lincoln s ideals during the reconstruction years. Lincoln s plan for reconstruction supported the idea of a strongly governed united country. Lincoln was one of the few to recognize that one needed to look past personal glory, and instead, do what was best for the country as a whole (Herman Belz pg.5). Mckeown and Brown s attempts at understanding why health improved, explored factors which influenced the major decline in mortality rates in the United Kingdom after 1840 (p.5). They cited a large decline in mortality from airborne diseases, water and sanitation systems in the 1800 s and finally concluded that the decrease in mortality was due to improved prosperity and nutrition (p.5). The Viewer Is The Witness In Night And Fog How the Viewer is the Witness in Night and Fog Alain Resnais Night and Fog is a Holocaust documentary shot in 1955 that served as a lens into the hellish landscape of the Holocaust. It was shot with footage of the Holocaust combined with a voiceover narration that provides a detailed look into the horrors of the Holocaust. The film proved to be a success but it struggled through censorship due to its inherent gruesome nature. This is because the film uses various techniques in such a way that the viewer of the film feel that they themselves have become witnesses of these tragedies, as opposed to just being a viewer of a documentary about the Holocaust, thus making the viewer experience of the film much more impactful. Traditional documentaries use interviews and first hand witness accounts to tell the story, but Night and Fog does not. It presents everything objectively and lets the powerful, fast paced cinematography and narration tell the story.
