Minority entrepreneurs have many barriers they have to overcome in order to be successful.
Some typical problems they face are limited access to capital, lower equity investments, and less
exposure to entrepreneurship. Minority entrepreneurs are twice as likely to be turned down for
traditional lending, which can discourage them from even applying for a loan. Not only that but
they are less likely to be considered by traditional or angel investors. They also generally live in
run down areas, with poor schooling and less access to successful people. One entrepreneur who
has hurdled over all the barriers and became extremely successful is Russell Simmons, the co
founder of Def Jam Records.

There hasn t been a label whose fortunes have been so intertwined with hip hops fortune.
However, they were not the first label to put out rap and not as many revolutionary artists as one
might think. So why do they have an almost mythical status? Def Jam got its status because
Simmons recognized the worth of hip hop music, and saw how it could expand into a cultural
revolution. Def Jam s started in Rick Ruban s NYU dorm, with each Simmons and Rubin only
investing a few thousand dollars each. Their first official release was LL Cool J s I need a Beat. It
sold more than 100,000 copies giving Simmons the leverage he needed to cut a deal with CBS
Records for distribution. This deal was the first of its kind for hip hop. Simmons secured Def
Jams future by making clever decisions that seemed insane at the time, such as pairing Run
D.M.C. with Aerosmith on the cover of Walk This Way. The video of this duo finally got hip
hop onto MTV, which had a negative view on rap at the time. Rubin left Def Jam in 1988,
making Simmons the sole head of the company. Simmons also tried his hand in producing
movies; his company s name is Simmons Lathan Media. His first of which was called Krush
Groove (1985). This was a fiction that was loosely based on Simmons life. It was originally
supposed to be a plotless vehicle

Animal Hunting Satire
The bird stops singing at once and then I m aware of all that could happen to me... just me, I m
totally by my own now. I find myself, waiting for something really bad to happen; that feeling
inside found its way out, yelling at me, saying that this is not my imagination, that something is
actually wrong, I wonder what could it be. Seconds freeze, floating on the air, a moment seems
to be a life time, how many lifetimes have I been here waiting? And what am I waiting for?
Suddenly something hits me strong at my ribs, some of them might be broken by the impact; I fell
down, and think for an instant that it s just a wild animal hunting. Good. I d rather be killed by a
bear than by an actual person. Something amazingly sharp scratches the back of

Singapore And The New Xyz Co. Singapore
Our team has received a great opportunity to prove ourselves by working abroad at the new XYZ
Co. Singapore branch. We understand this is an important endeavor for the company and we
aim to surpass our target goals reached in St. Louis. Because we are entering unfamiliar
territory, I have researched three key topics that are pinpointed in this document: Hofstede s
Value Dimensions, doing business in Singapore and everyday living. Adjusting our current
procedures to the standards and norms of Singapore will be essential to our success in this
foreign society. By understanding these topics I have no doubt that we will be prepared for
employment in Singapore. HOFSTEDE S VALUE DIMENSIONS Many important assumptions
can be drawn from comparing Singapore and America s scores on the Hofstede s Value
Dimensions. Power distance describes how people respond to inequality in power in society
(Daft). Singapore scores high on power distance, at 74 compared to the U.S s 40. This means
that authority is centralized and control is to be expected (http://geert hofstede.com
/singapore.html). An individualistic society is a society where individuals are expected to
provide for themselves (Daft). Individualism ranks very low, scoring 20 compared to 91 in the
U.S. This is where the biggest difference lies between American and Singapore. America is a
highly individualistic society while Singapore is a collectivistic society. Mutual respect is expected
and conflicts are to be avoided

Analysis Of The Book Fist Stick Knife Gun By Geoffrey...
Geoffrey Canada pens a book that is part biography, part social view, a very thoughtful look into
inner city violence and the rules surrounding it. The book describes how his personal history
with violence influenced his work with youth and the programs that he has started to support
them. Geoffrey Canada describes the progression of violence that had happened in his lifetime.
He also points out that there is a disturbing difference between what the streets were like in the
1960s compared to those of today. As great storyteller, Geoffrey Canada is thoroughly
convincing. His Book Fist Stick Knife Gun, is a great explanation of violence and poverty in
late 20th century here in America s inner cities. Of how he changed from a timid and frightened
child into a young man who could hold his own in a fight in the streets, is written in a believable
way. Canada actually learned the way of the streets because he grew up in the streets. All of his
experiences first started when he was a child when he and his friends used their fists to settle
disputes and to gain a reputation that would bring respect from the other kids in the
neighborhood. At times, those disputes would escalate with other weapons like a knife. Having
grown up in the South Bronx in the 1960s, Mr. Canada brings you to a time when violence was
ever present but guns were not. At that time there were a very few adult men in the neighborhood,
and the police were of very little assistance. Not even old enough

The Color Purple Essay
Missionary work is defined as the spread of Christianity ( westernized culture) to other countries.
Christianity had a powerful impact on African culture and religious beliefs. Long after the early
missionaries left African culture and tradition are still considered barbaric and uncivilized.
In the novel The Color Purple , Nettie met the reverend and his wife corrine who were both
Christian missionaries. Nettie had the opportunity to follow the reverend and his wife to Africa to
spread the word and also educate them but without knowing they were not only going to spread the
word but also change the dynamics of their society . Missionary work in Africa had a profound

Different tools produced different types of scars, some subtle, others profound. In Africa,
scarification symbolized strength, unity and courage in men women and children. Tribal marks
were used to enhance a womens beauty there was also a social admiration. Kings and chiefs and
people of status in the community underwent the process of scarification but their scars were more
profound, it showed a sign of status. Another purpose for tribal marks was for a sense of identity
and tribal identity amongst a certain group. In some African societies, Girls and woman received
tribal marks on their abdomen, which emphasized the role of childbearing. More scars were added
throughout their youth and continued well into their adulthood . Christianity (western culture )
viewed this process of beauty and courage as barbaric and uncivilized. In the novel , The Color

Juxtaposition In Ideas
The foil poems The Chimney Sweeper Songs of Innocence and The Chimney Sweeper Songs of
Experience by William Blake show a clear juxtaposition in ideas. Songs of Innocence, shows an
idyllic view of religion, with a faithful boy entrusting his future to a higher power. In contrast, the
second poem, Songs of Experience, shows a cynical view of religion with no hope for a better
future. As a result of these ideas, the author conveys a sense of hopelessness for the future of these
children, regardless of their ideals. Through tone and imagery, William Blakeshows the hypocrisy of
religion in relation to child labor during the eighteenth century.
The tones in each of the respective poems show a contrasting view point of life. The naГЇve tone of

Throughout Songs of innocence the rhyme scheme AABB CCDD and continues where two lines
which rhyme before continuing to the next set. This has the effect of making the poem seem
surreal or unrealistic, since it gives the poem a fluid and sing song like rhythm. The rhyme
underscores the main idea of the subject matter of the poem by showing that the dream which
Tom Dacre has and the hope that the narrator gains as a result of this dream, are purely fantasy.
As the poem continues, the rhymes in the last stanza are not the same complete rhymes as the
ones that were used in the beginning part of the poem. The words dark (l. 21) and work (l.22)
along warm (l.23) and harm (l.24) are only half rhymes, again revealing the hope that the boys
have that their hard work will be rewarded, is only an illusion. Similarly, The Chimney Sweeper
Songs of Experience, uses AABB in the first stanza. This is done to show a clear dichotomy
between the two speakers at the beginning of the poem. However, as the poem progresses, the
rhyme scheme changes to CACA DEDE. As a result of the alternating lines in the poem, the
fanatical element which was exhibited in the first poem is not present. The alternating lines are able
to the conflicting ideas of the young chimney sweeper. The chimney sweeper describes his
situation, saying that he believes his parents made him begin chimney sweeping because they

Essay on Russian Composers
Russian composers are often mentioned in history as the most influential in the world. With style
unlike any other, Russians are able to capture mood through a unique ability to capture exactly what
they feel. Exactly how the Russians are able to do this is unknown, though through this, the greatest
composers have turned out to be Russian. Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and Shostakovichare all able
to write and portray the most detailed feelings and moods, and it is to them that we owe the
advancement of all music.
Tchaikovsky is one of the most beloved composers in history. An inspired craftsman of melody,
orchestration and tonal color, he wrote in an astonishing variety of musical forms, from symphonies
to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the same time, he was coming into his own as a composer, writing his Fourth Symphony (1877)
and other works. He also was starting to experience chronic depression. Many music historians say
this was in response to hiding his homosexuality, while others point to a clinical conditional
condition which was only exacerbated by his chaotic personal life (Sadie, 94).
He wrote the magnificent Violin concerto in D in 1878, and endured its rejection by Leopold
Auer, who deemed the work unplayable and followed with the Symphony No 6 and other
legendary works (Mason, 70). Throughout the 1880s, his fame spread to Europe and America, and
his financial position improved. In 1889 Madame von Meck suddenly, for unknown reasons, cut off
her financial support, a blow from which Tchaikovsky never recovered (Mason, 70).
In the same year he saw the premiere of Sleeping Beauty, a work which brought even higher
acclaim to the now famous composer (Sadie, 94).
In 1891 to 1892 he toured Europe and the United States, conducting concerts of his music and
winning praises from the public as well as the critics (Mason, 70). Never a robust person, in
constant strain from mental and physical disorders, Tchaikovsky died in 1893 under mysterious
circumstances. Some believe he contracted cholera during a trip to St. Petersburg, while others
believe he committed suicide or was

Neighbours By Tim Winton Analysis
An individual s growth is induced by their experiences of and response to discovery. The extent of
their discovery is determined by their will to embrace the process and the connections made.
Discoveries can provoke unexpected emotive responses, as did the journey undertaken by the
participants in Ivan O Mahoney s documentary Go Back To Where You Came From. Else, they
may result in the desire to re evaluate perceptions of the world, made evident in Tim Winton s short
story, Neighbours. Both texts explore the experience of self discovery through which the
development of profound new understandings and perceptions allowing the individuals to form
deeper relationships with themselves and the world around them. These ideas are made evident...

Thus, proving that When forced out of their comfort zone, an individual s will to learn can result
in a change of perceptions and attitudes over time. Winton s short story begins as a young couple
move into a street that is full of European migrants . Winton applies a simile to express how this
made the newly weds feel like sojourners in a foreign land . The young couple had been were not
used to the behaviour of their new neighbours and the limited space between their houses as they
had previously lived in the expansive outer suburbs with neighbours that were seldom seen and
never heard . The repetition of the seasons; autumn merged into winter and by late summer
symbolises the length of time the couple take to become familiar with their new neighbours and
accept and embrace their cultural differences. When the neighbours found out the young woman
was pregnant, they showered her with compliments and presents making her feel flattered,
claustrophobic, grateful, peeved . Through this oxymoron, the hormonal impact of the pregnancy is
illuminated and her previous, solely negative attitudes have altered towards her new neighbours as
these acts of kindness have overwhelmed her and she sees they re just trying to help. Therefore,
Discoveries can be sudden and

The Advantages Of Surrogate Endpoints
In clinical research, a clinical endpoint is a sign or symptom that constitutes a target outcome of a
study. Unfortunately, there may be no convenient clinical endpoint for some studies. For example,
the clinical endpoint of hypertension is death over the next 50 years, so blood pressure is used as a
surrogate endpoint. Similarly, the concentration of viral particles is used in HIV/AIDS studies.
Bone density is used in osteoporosis studies. A true endpoint must be a medical condition that a
patient would want treated and a physician or dentist would agree deserves treatment.
Surrogate endpoints are physiological or biochemical markers that are easier to measure than true
endpoints. Surrogate endpoints often occur soon after the intervention in the disease process. Such
surrogate endpoints can, therefore, be viewed as intermediate endpoints. Also, surrogate endpoints
may not be of direct practical importance to the patient. A given disease process may have multiple
markers that could be used as the surrogate endpoint. Or, more than one could be used. ... Show

The Rise Of Piano Instrumentals
The piano instrumentals have been very popular now for almost all the popular music and its
popularity doesn t seem to get down.
The grand piano is no doubt an amazing musical instrument. When any type of tune is performed
on piano it becomes a special piece of art. If you talk about an urban rap track, it will also sound
very smooth and gentle as the piano instrumental. It is because the track is changed and you also
add into the melodies, tone and harmonies of the piano.

Social Deviance Definition Essay
Merriam Webster defines straying or deviating especially from an accepted norm (dictionary). In
sociology, deviant behavior is a act that society, or the mass popular, thinks is unusual or different.
For a behavior to be considered deviant it must violate a social rule, prove disapproval, or be a
form of positive deviance. Deviant behavior can range from tattoo, unnatural dyed hair, criminology
, completing math in pen, domestic violence, to listening to punk music. Sociologyis about revealing
patterns and identifying underlining forces (TB).
As stated above, deviance can be anything that is different than society s definition of normal.
There are rules in place that the mass population upholds; there are means in place to ensure that
those rules are followed, ie. police, teachers, etc. Erkison brings a very valid point to the
dissuasion on societal deviance, Although we no longer attend public hangings or observe
people held in stockades, we are aware of the way society punishes (or fails to punish) deviant acts;
in so doing we continually redraw the social boundaries of acceptability (Erickson 17). He states
that the social rules that we follow are are developed by those who rule, or have power. ... Show

The Louisiana Purchase Shaping America
The Louisiana Purchase shaping America
Christopher Richeson

American History 4th Period
December 15, 2015
Abstract
The Louisiana Purchase was a major event in the growth of the United States of America.
Purchased from France for 15 million by Thomas Jefferson in 1803, it gave America twice the
available land, adding 827,000 square miles. Some may argue the Louisiana Purchase is
unconstitutional, but Jefferson found a way around that. The Constitution says land may be
acquired through treaties such as the Louisiana Purchase. After the accusation of the Louisiana
Territory, Jefferson had an expedition lead by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. The goal of
the expedition was to map the new territory and find a quicker path to the Pacific Ocean. The
entire expedition lasted a little longer than two years to complete. The Louisiana Purchase was a
deal between The United States and France over 827,000 square miles west of the Mississippi River
. (Wilson, G. 2003) It allowed for major expansion and growth for the small republic in 1803.
What if France would have denied our efforts to acquire the land, would The Unites States be the
same as it is today? Through my research I believe that without the acquisition of the Louisiana
Territory, The United States would not have been able to grow and become what it is today.
Considered to be one of, if not the greatest real estate purchase in American history, the

My Experience At The End Of The Summer
We live in a world in which we are expected to work and survive; working provides the resources
needed for survival, but working does not necessarily bring happiness to our lives. When I was
in high school I got a summer job and was hoping for the best, before I even started working I
had already calculated how much I would earn at the end of the summer. Everything seemed
perfect I was not excited about having to wake up early but I knew I could manage it and I did.
For three consecutive summers I worked packing fruit out in the middle of nowhere surrounded
by fig trees. The first week on the job was fun and manageable; however, as time progressed I
began to hate my life. I hated the fact that I had to wake up at four in the morning and... Show more

I felt like I was sacrificing valuable time in order to do the most painful thing in the world. Marx
recognizes that external labour, labour in which man alienates himself, is a labour of self
sacrifice, of mortification. I did not feel embarrassed to be working out in the fields, but I did
hate my life and I felt like time was passing slowly. While working in the summer I made money
but I also learned a lot. Before working I knew that life could be difficult; however, I was never
consciously aware of the competition/envy that exists among workers. I had always heard my
parents talk about their jobs and they would mention greedy co workers but I thought that was
just something they did in order to scare me away from working. However, when I started
working I realized that my parents were not playing when they would tell me that people can be
very greedy. At work not only did I experience subject alienation, but I also experienced and saw
how species alienation comes into play when individuals compete for the resources available. The
first week of work was very fun because everyone got along and everyone worked together;
however, by the third week the work environment was different. People were now greedy with
their things, the ladies did not want to share boxes or share the fruit, even though all the workers
were getting paid the same for the same exact work. At that moment

Oscula Study of a Sponge Essay
All the sponge parameters measured in our study in between the two discrete depth zones
revealed a clear statistical difference and consistently higher values for the shallow location
except from the sponge surface area (Median shallow, deep = 85, 152 cm2, respectively) and
oscular number per sponge area (Median shallow, deep = 0.04, 024 cm2 respectively). Similar to
our study of turbidity in the previous section the parameters given above for the deeper zone was
higher for the sponges with lesser pumping rates, but this difference observed to be eminent for the
depth comparison (Table 4). The comparative study of shallow and deep locations at the two

The most efficient sponge patch at the deep site processed 0.166 cm3 cm 2 s 1 amount of
seawater with 23 oscula collectively pumping. These numbers clearly show that C. reniformis
specimens possessing few numbered large sized osculas, pump more efficiently than sponges
with many small sized oscula. This raises a question in mind; is it better to have single
enormous sized oscule or many smaller sized osculas? Our analysis marks out a discrete large
sized oscule provides a clear advantage on pumping efficiency to the sponges living in the wave
zone, but in the meantime at a cost of maintaining a smaller sized body and perhaps less growth.
The sponge specimens living in the deeper zones compensates this disadvantage by spreading
through a larger surface and forming many oscular openings.
The shallow pristine site, Meteor Bay is generally protected from wave action, but there are
regular storm events throughout the year. Absence of oceanic water currents leaves wave action
as the major source of mixing and water movement. A possible advantage for C. reniformis
specimens to acquire larger sized oscules might be described with the need of catching desired
food particles in a water movement zone affected by wave action. Continuous oscillation of
particles in a wave action could make it harder to catch desired particles for a

Analysis of The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost Essay
Thesis Robert Frosts The Road Not Taken is more symbolic of a choice one must make in their
life in attempt to foresee the outcome before reaching the end, than it is about choosing the right

The Road Not Taken, is described as a yellowed wood (Arp Johnson, 2009). Use of this description
could be that fall is upon the wood or the trees perhaps once white have yellowed with age.
Before the traveler is a road split into two different directions, he has no idea where each road

It could just be symbolic for a choice that he must make in his life. As college students, our road
is what major we will choose and this will help decide the outcome of our future. When one
decides to follow God a divided path becomes the focus of our lives, do we continue down the
path we have been on our whole lives, and is well known but will surely lead to death? On the
other hand, do we choose the path God would have us take not only changing our lives, but in
the end instead of an eternity spent in the cold grip of death, we find eternal life? Why does the
title emphasize the road not taken? The emphasis on the road not taken is Frost s way of making
us think as we read this poem that no matter which way the speaker chose to go a road would
always stay not taken. The speaker intended to complete his journey on the chosen path, then at
another time go back, and take the other direction. What are the rhythm patterns that Frost uses in
the poem (include the scansion and technical methods: alliteration, assonance, and consonance)?
Frost uses both masculine rhyme and end rhyme. The masculine rhyme is the rhyming sounds
that contain only one syllable such as wood, stood, and should. The end rhyme pattern that Frost
uses is, A, B, A, A, B C, D, C, C, D E, F, E, E, F and G, H, G, G, H. (Arp Johnson, 2009). There

Comparison Between Island Of Inventions And The Pearl
The time and work you put into a dream that has no chance of coming true is time truly wasted,
the time could be used towards other things. According to The Island of Inventions and The

Response To Conflict Research Paper
What is conflict? It is a word commonly used by humans, but some can t even define the word.
Conflict is a battle, fight, or struggle, and there are many ways that humans can respond to it.
However, the most effective way to respond is by compromising. Throughout history, compromise
has saved so many lives, and has kept peaceful relations between people. Even though war is a
terrible thing, there are times when it is necessary to effectively settle disputes, as shown by Elie
Wiesel, who survived a concentration camp, and Winston Churchill, who was struggling to defeat
Nazi Germany. Overall, compromise is the most effective way to respond to conflict.
There are multiple examples throughout history where conflict has had a better effect than ... Show

On the battlefield, soldiers are hurt and killed every day. But, according to the Science Museum,
Soldiers not only suffered on the battlefield. Veterans often needed long term care owing to the
physical and psychological impact of war. Especially in the Vietnam War, since the soldiers
were constantly being attacked, but couldn t see their enemy. This messed with their minds, and
the ones still alive today have never been the same since they got back from Vietnam. War not
only has negative effects on soldiers, but also on the townspeople who live near war. The
Science Museum also writes, Civilians, particularly children, can also suffer the effects of
trauma. Civilians don t only have the constant fear of the war getting too close to them, but also
the fear of bombs and harmful chemicals. Again, in the Vietnam War, US forces used a
chemical called agent orange to destroy the foliage of forests so they could see their enemy
better. This, though, has had a long term effect on everyone who was exposed to the chemical
by giving them radiation poisoning, or in some cases, cancer. Also in the Vietnam War, the US
dropped bombs on North Vietnam, and hit many houses, villages, and fields where the civilians
grew their food. Many people died who weren t even part of the war. It can be very hard for
countries to regain their strength and money once a long war is finished. Take Germany, for
example. After WW1, Germany s economy was very unstable, so the US gave them reparation
loans to rebuilt it. An article written by Wikipedia says, The German Government estimated it had
paid the equivalent of 67.8 billion gold marks in reparations. And they didn t pay it off until 2010!
War has many negative effects, which is why compromising is a better

The SUmmer of a Jupiter Symphony Essay
The Summer of a Jupiter Symphony The year is 1788 as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart began to
work on his last three symphonies during a time of strife for musicians as the Austro Turkish War
continues to war on in Austria. Tired from moving his family from central Vienna to the suburbs of
Alsergrund all while in debt to his ears as he continued to borrow money from friends including a
fellow mason, Michael Puchberg, Mozart finished his final symphony on August 10, 1788. This
piece, nicknamed the Jupiter Symphony, coined by impresario Johann Peter Saloman, was Mozart s
longest symphony with a total of four movements, a typical symphonic form during the Classical
era. The Jupiter Symphony totals to about forty five minutes of music ending... Show more content

Mozart was known for having an ear that would make any musician envious. From a young age
he was able to listen to any piece of music and his mind would interpret all of that data with ease.
While in Rome, he listened to a performance of Gregorio Allegri s Miserere only twice at the
Sistine Chapel and was able to write it down for memory when he got home (Abert 135). After
Mozart and his father returned to Italy from a ten year tour, Mozart was employed by Prince
Archbishop Hieronymus Collero to be a court musician in the year 1773. With a pay check of
only 150 florins a year though, Mozart began to look for other job ventures and began to try to
write operas that he hoped would help kick start his career as a professional musician. It was not
until 1782 when Mozart began to receive the credit that he deserved. Performing on multiple
local keyboard competitions, he was soon established as one of the best keyboard players in
Vienna. Finally in 1783, as he finished writing the opera Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail, he
began to be seen as a successful independent composer and started to receive a reputation as such
(Abert 642). As Mozart got older, he matured even more as a composer writing a total of over six
hundred pieces including symphonies, operas, concertos, and other styles of pieces during his life

Characteristics Of Romantic And Familial Love
Love is a unique aspect of the human condition that does not seem to exist in any other lifeform.
In spite of this, like many other traits that stem from evolution, it is likely that love is a product
of that process as well. Regardless of whether it is subconscious or not, romantic and familial love
seem to go hand in hand as people tend to seek qualities that may benefit a future family. It can be
argued that the sensation felt by a large majority of the population, love, can be attributed to the
selfish genes that inhabit the body. For the sake of argument, love can be described as the
relationship between people and their concern for each other. Dawkins introduces processes like kin
selection, mating strategies, and reciprocal altruismwhich may play a role in both romantic and
familial love. To summarize these processes: kin selection is when an organism risks their own
well being for a relative to increase the likelihood of genereplication, mating strategies describe the
methods in which an organism uses to attract a mate, and reciprocal altruism is acting in a manner
that temporarily reduces one s well being with the assumption that the apparent act of altruism will
be reciprocated.
Perhaps the most obvious example of kin selection is observed in familial relationships. Members
of the family typically have a greater degree of care for each other in comparison to those
unrelated. This love, or in this case, this concern for those related can be explained using the

Sir Isaac Newton on Christmas Day, 25 December 1642 . His studies had impressed the Lucasian
professor, Isaac Barrow, who was more anxious to develop his own religious and administrative

elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1672. The author of the manuscript De analysi per
aequationes numero terminorum infinitas, sent by Isaac Barrow to John Collins in June 1669, was

His use of methods involving one or more orders of the infinitesimally small is present in his De
motu corporum in gyrum of 1684 and in his papers on motion during the two decades preceding
1684 . Newton had been reluctant to publish his calculus because he feared controversy and
criticism. He was close to the Swiss mathematician Nicolas Fatio de Duillier. In 1691, Duillier
started to write a new version of Newton s Principia, and corresponded with Leibniz. In 1693, the
relationship between Duillier and Newton deteriorated and the book was never completed.
Starting in 1699, other members of the Royal Society accused Leibniz of plagiarism. The dispute
then broke out in full force in 1711 when the Royal Society proclaimed in a study that it was
Newton who was the true discoverer and labelled Leibniz a fraud. This study was cast into doubt
when it was later found that Newton himself wrote the study s concluding remarks on Leibniz.
Thus began the bitter controversy which marred the lives of both Newton and Leibniz until the

Insomni Behavioral Interventions For Insomnia
Insomnia
Many people experience insomnia and are not even aware of how common this disorder have
become. This paper is to present an overview of behavioral interventions for insomnia. Behavioral
interventions for insomnia include relaxation training, stimulus control therapy, sleep restriction
therapy, sleep hygiene, paradoxical intention therapy, cognitive restructuring, and other approaches.
These are briefly explained in detail. Scientifically, insomnia is a general clinical term that refers to
a difficulty in initiating or maintaining sleep. Scientists contend today that insomnia is widely
prevalent in the general population, especially in the elderly and in those with medical and
psychiatric disorders. It is noted that several people complain about having a struggle when it
comes to sleeping.
This phenomenon is known as an ailment. Basically, insomnia affects the individual who has
acquired symptoms that disturbs their sleeping. and those who suffer with this often have low
disposition and are irritable. On the other hand, most patients are not functional during the day due
to not getting the sleep required at night. There are a few common sleeping disorders such as sleep
apnea, restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy but insomnia is the focus. Due to the large number of
sleep disorders and complaints, the health care professionals are increasing the awareness on sleep
disturbances to better assist patients.

Misconceptions Of Depression Essay
Depression can present itself in many ways depending on the person it is effecting. The most
commonly known symptoms of depression are persistent sad moods, loss of interest or pleasure in
activities, change in weight or appetite, difficulty sleeping or oversleeping, agitation, loss of energy,
feelings of worthlessness or unneeded guilt, difficulty thinking or concentrating, and thoughts of
death or suicide. A common misconception is that all people with depressionare suicidal. While
there are many cases of suicidal thoughts in sufferers of depression, not every person with
depression has suicidal thoughts. The type of depression one is diagnosed with depends on how
many of the symptoms the person is showing. Major depressive disorder, also known as unipolar
major depression, is diagnosed if the patient has five or more of the symptoms during a two week
period. Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depressive illness, is diagnosed through the
symptoms of major depression episodes, abnormal and constant elevated moods or irritability.
Bipolar disorder also presents in symptoms such as lack of need for sleep, increased talkativeness,
racing thoughts, increased physical agitation, increased involvement in activities that have a high
risk of painful consequences. Dysthymic disorder is the next most common depression disorder next

World War I Poetry with Emphasis on Wilfred Owens
World War I spanned four years, from June 1914 to June 1918. During this war, technological
advances increased the danger for the soldiers who took part in battle. Poison gas and trench
warfare transformed World War I into a cesspool of sickness and death. Poetry during World War I
provided a way to connect people back home with the horrific lifestyle soldiers had to face on a
daily basis. Poets such as Wilfred Owens used vivid imagery, dire diction, and other literary devices
to depict the grueling tasks of warfare. World War I
, otherwise known as the Great War, began on
June 28th, 1914, when Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo, Bosnia. This

But the struggle, and the sense that one is saving bits from the wreckage, doesn t give one a chance
to be mastered by the unutterable woe (Gay).
Chemical warfare was developed by German scientist in 1914, but was not deemed chivalrous
until January 1915. . The Germans launched the first major poison gas attack near Ypres on
April 22, 1915. French colonial troops were the victims. Two days later another gas attack hit
Canadian troops who had just entered the trenches. On both occasions the Germans inflicted
thousands of casualties and penetrated enemy lines but failed to achieve the hoped for decisive
results. Much the same pattern would follow as the war progressed. Following the initial
German example, both sides used increasingly treacherous varieties of poison gas and perfected
methods of delivery (Lengel 18). The use of poison gas claimed the lives of 500,000 to 650,000
people. One man who served for the British Expeditionary Force described poison gas as, a
crawling yellow cloud that pours in upon you, that gets you by the throat and shakes you as a
huge mastiff might shake a kitten, leaves you burning in every nerve and vein of your body with
pain unthinkable (Gay). Wilfred Owens was born on March 18, 1893 in Shropshire, England.

Premises Liability Case
Trip and fall or slip and fall cases are also referred to a premises liability. A claim such as this
generally arises due to a defect in the property s floor that causes an individual to trip or slip and
fall. The act of tripping or slipping on someone s property does not automatically trigger liability.
The fact that the defect exists is irrelevant unless evidence establishes that the property owner was
aware of the defect and neglected to fix it. The question in an Illinois liability claim is notice.
Because notice is the most important issue in a premises liability case, the definition of notice is
difficult to define; however, there are standards that the court has set to assist lawyers and their
claimants to determine whether a premises liability case exits.... Show more content on

For example, if a defect is not obvious or only appears under certain conditions obtaining
adequate pictures for evidence may be challenging. No previous complaints or prior inspections
of the property also make establishing defects difficult. In situations such as this, the attorney
will conduct an investigation to determine whether or not the property owner should have been
aware of the defect responsible for causing the slip and fall. Defining Notice Notice refers to
what a property owner knows or should have known at the time of the incident. One of the
classic notice situations involves a property owner knowing about a defect, but neglects to fix it.
Evidence must be presented showing the number of times an owner was informed of the defect
and ignored it. Exceptions to Premises Liability Claims The Illinois courts have ruled that water
tracked into a property by visitors on a rainy day is a natural occurrence; therefore, a property
owner is not considered liable in the event of a slip and fall. In addition, a property owner is not
liable if a slip and fall is caused by other natural occurrences, for example ice and

Mexico Gender Inequality
Gender inequality is the unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals based on their gender. It
arises from differences in socially constructed gender roles. Throughout the world there are men
and women who seek change in society s gender infrastructure, they seek equality and justice for
both genders. In some developing nations like the countries in the Middle East, China, and India,
women are still perceived as the inferior gender; they re forced to be obedient to the opposite sex,
their basic rights are restricted and they aren t treated fairly in most cases. However, in developing

Control and Treatment of Tuberculosis with DOTS Strategy
Introduction
Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the oldest diseases known to mankind, that despite the great
achievements of human society still remains a major health problem. Because due to the
socioeconomic problems and negligence in the treatment of tuberculosis, as well as HIV epidemy,
in many countries there are a large number of smear positive patients often remain undiagnosed. On
the other hand, patients failure to visit a physician after initiation of complaints, Lack of timely
diagnosis and treatment by a physician, inadequate treatment, improper administration of anti TB
drugs, patients financial problems in preparing medications, and patients inadequate information
about their disease status and discontinuation the medication can lead to the creation of drug
resistant cases of TB. Since 1993, World Health Organization has accepted the Directly Observed

about 10 8 million people become infected with TB and 3 2 million people die annually due to this
disease. The World Health Organization has declared tuberculosisa global emergency and has
recommended efforts to control the disease. Tuberculosis is considered as an endemic and common

The Importance Of Growth Mindset In Education
In today s education, educators encourage students to endorse a growth mindset for their learning.
A growth mindset is when someone believes that their intelligence can be developed through hard
work and dedication. A fixed mindset is when students believe that they can not develop intelligence
rather they are smart or not. In the United States educationsystem, the US is struggling to keep pace
with other countries student academic achievements. In the article, Leveraging Mindsets to
Promote Academic Achievement: Policy recommendations , the authors state, Academic mindsets
are powerful when implemented correctly: they can left grades and motivation, particularly among
struggling students, and they can reduce racial, gender, and social class achievement gaps. Growth
mindsets are praised in the education communities because it s reflects high results of studies that
show that student raise their grades and intelligence through persevering through hard work.
Students who adopt a growth mindset, will further develop their intelligence and achieve academic
goals
Many people believe praising students for their intelligence will boost their confidence and
motivation to learn but praising students does the complete opposite. When students are praised
about their intelligence, it gives them pride for a short amount of time and stops students from
continuing to push themselves to learn more. In a studied conducted by Carol S Dweck in The

How The Method Of Growing Food Organically Or Non...
The purpose of this study was to study how the method of growing food organically or non
organically affected the mold growth between the two. Also, looking at whether or not organic
food or non organic food is healthier for you. Throughout a one week period, data was collected
each day by a ranking system on a scale of 1 to 5. The rank gave a number for how much mold
grew after one day. 1 meaning no mold and 5 meaning more than 10 spots of mold. The three
foods involved in this study were cheese, strawberries, and bananas. There were an organic and non
organic foodfor each food item. The food was placed in a dark and warm cabinet. It is claimed
that non organic food will grow mold faster based on the number of mold spots grown because
mold likes to grow in the dark better. Other studies explained there is not a significant difference
nutritionally between organic and non organic foods.
Introduction
How does the method of growing organic food affect the growth of mold and nutritional value
versus non organic foods? This question is significant because many people buy organic food
because they think it is healthier. Also, since non organic foods usually have more preservatives
in them to make them last longer, the assumption is that non organic foods will mold faster.
Molds are fungi that grow best in warm, dark, damp, and humid conditions. Mold spreads and
reproduces by making spores that can survive harsh conditions (CDC, 2014). If a food is to be

Gran Torino Ethos
We have seen Clint Eastwood many times before Gran Torino. Over a long career, he has
portrayed many distinctive roles that have included cowboys, police officers and boxing managers.
Even though the roles differed in time and place, they were often characterized by a strong sense of
independence and commitment to seeing difficult challenges through to the end. The end often
meant the death of villains. Eastwood s many roles have created an Eastwood ethos, or philosophy,
that his fans have been able to count on in each movie, no matter their genre or historical context.

The scenes occur mostly in and around Walt s and Thao s homes over the course of a film.
Editors often use fade ins and fade outs to indicate changes in time, especially when the
locations remain the same. The editors used straight cuts rather than fades in expressing its
story. In the scene when Walt tells Thao to dig up a neighbour s tree, the editor uses various
alternating scenes of Walt smoking and watching while Thao digs in the rain. The cameras
shots of Walt and Thao are separated by various dissolves. What gives the film its strength is the
way Eastwood shows Walt struggling with his prejudices and coming to terms with a changing
world and with his inner demons, many of the latter stemming from the horrors he witnessed in
the Korean War. Finally, it turns into a kind of modern western, with Walt preparing for a finale.
At the end of the film I have picked up a flaw and it appears when Walt takes Thao to get a job

Hyman and Summers (2004) classified seven major problems which are associated with current
practices over work life balance these are unevenness of adoption across different sectors and
organizations, lack of formalization of policies at organizational level, restricted employee voice
over the introduction and implementation of policies , policies are primarily to meet business
needs rather than those of employees, there is no evidence of reduction in working hours, tangible
and intangible work intrusions into domestic life , domestic responsibilities are still conducted

is a need for a practical instrument to measure the present situation of work life balance. However,
as revealed by the researchers Eikhof et. al.
(2007), the current work life balance policies are narrow minded in terms of addressing the needs
and aspirations of employees but there is need for its realization as reflected in Emerald article,

Mary Parker Follett s Leadership
Mary Parker Follett had approached management in a different view than most managers of her
time. Rather than seeing conflict as just that, a conflict, she thought a conflict could be a good
thing. Mary believed that managing was not about dominating the employees, nor
compromising with them but rather stating each of the preferences a person holds and striving
to meet each of the personal needs together. She also believed that when a manager is giving
orders, they need to thoroughly discuss the instructions as well as deal with resentment. Chris
Kolbe believes his authority comes from his commitment to the company and his team, the way
he approaches things and his performance. Kolbe states he draws it from what he does every
minute, in how he communicates with his employees, and his directness. It seems as though
Kolbe and Follett had similar managerial practices. Follett thrives for a work place where each
person can express their personal preferences yet being respectful and mindful of those around
them. Kolbe creates a work environment where each employee feels safe and enjoys working
with him. He allows each employee to express their ideas and be their own person within the
business. By putting each and every employee into the broader picture, they have a sense of
belonging. This creates a thriving business. Also, Follett goes on to state that a manager needs to
be direct and thorough about what needs to be done. Kolbe has these one on one talks with his
employees

Analysis Of Schuman s Speech
The Schuman Declaration is the foundation of the European project that we live in today. In his
speech on 9 May, 1950, Robert Schuman proposed to pool France and Germany s Coal and Steel
production together for the greater purpose to create peace and safeguard Europe. For some it
came as a surprise because only five years passed since devastating World War II came to an end.
Withal, it gives room for interpretation and speculations. Therefore, this paper will analyse the real
motivation of Robert Schumanwhether his intentions were primary to secure peace in Europe or
whether, he had something different and lower intentions in mind.
First a version of the Schuman Declaration must be decided on to continue the analysis further. To
find an appropriate version of the Schuman Declaration, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, it was interested in achieving world peace and to improve living conditions in Europe.
Second, it was aiming for the greater goal for itself to create the ECSC. Subsequently, France was
driven by its own interest to benefit from an economic partnership with Germany. Thus, the
Schuman Declaration provides enough credibility for the idea of the ECSC. Withal, the reader
should not completely discount the notion of peace keeping. It is likely, that France acted in its
personal interest but saw more prosperity in the

Impact Of Biodiversity On The Extinction Of Plant And...
Review of Literature
Issue:
The rapid increase in the extinction rate of plant and animal species has proven to be a massive
issue regarding biodiversity loss.
Anil Markandya, from the Basque center for Climate Change and author of The Economic
Feedbacks of Loss of Biodiversity and Ecosystems Services says,
Globally, terrestrial biodiversity is projected to decrease by a further 10% by 2050. As with
biodiversity, the planet has also experienced major losses in the services derived from
ecosystems. During the last century, for example, the planet has lost 50% of its wetlands, 40% of
its forests and 35% of its mangroves. Around 60% of global ecosystem services have been
degraded in just 50 years.
This loss of Biodiversity is a phenomenon that has currently been under scrutiny. Markandya states
The topic of biodiversity loss has been the subject of a vast and growing scientific and economic
literature. Species are estimated to be going extinct at rates 100 to 1000 times faster than in
geological times. Malcolm McCallum, author of Vertebrate Biodiversity Losses Point to a Sixth
Mass Extinction brings the grim figures to light,
The human race faces many global to local challenges in the near future. Among these are
massive biodiversity losses. The 2012 IUCN/SSC Red List reported evaluations of ~56 % of all
vertebrates. This included 97 % of amphibians, mammals, birds, cartilaginous fishes, and hagfishes.
It also contained evaluations of ~50 % of lampreys, ~38 % of

My First Certificate Course Of Computer Science
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The computer technology has ushered in a revolution that is unprecedented in its sweep. Its effect
on the everyday lives of ordinary people has been phenomenal. Right from the super satellite control
stations to the grocer s shop, the multinational company and the busy kitchen in the home this
technology is all pervasive, all consuming. This is what makes it one of the most challenging fields
as it not only meets needs but has the power to create new needs, rules and total environments of its
own.
I completed my first certificate course in computers in 1995, it was on GWBASIC language. Since
then, computers became a curiosity for me. Due to financial problems at home back then, I could
not take admission in an undergraduate course of computer engineering. Therefore, I joined
Bachelor of Science degree (B.Sc.) course with major in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. In
the second year of graduation, I decided to take admission in Master degree course in Computer
Science (MCA). MCA is a three year rigorous course that specializes in computer science. During
MCA, subjects like Discrete Mathematics, C programming, OOPS and C++, Operating Systems,
Numerical Methods, Software Engineering, Databases etc. were my area of focus.
The last semester of MCA was internship program with sumIT Infosoft P Ltd, where I developed
a web based bidding system for one of the clients. Here, I got real exposure to the world of
software. The internship program helped me to

The Lincoln Lawyer By Michael Connelly
1.Full Title, author s name, copyright date, and number of pages. 2.The Lincoln Lawyer is a
404 page crime fiction novel written by Michael Connelly, 2005. Criminal defense attorney
Mickey Haller is presented with his latest client, Beverly Hills playboy, Louis Roulet. Roulet is
accused of rape and murder but this does not trouble Haller; on the contrary, he revels in it
because it means he is being offered a franchise case, or a case offering a huge payout. Naturally,
Haller takes the offer but what is unique about this case is that for the first time ever, Haller thinks
he may have an innocent client. This is very worrying as Haller s father once said There is no
client as scary as an innocent man. As the case continues, however,... Show more content on

When Haller meets Roulet for the first time in jail, the author lightly introduces the issue of
jailhouse snitches. Although it is only a brief moment that Haller urges Roulet to stay quiet, it
is an important moment that highlights an extremely common problem in today s jail system,
which is that of eavesdroppers and the way they can further endanger their fellow criminals.
Furthermore, Connelly excels at comparing the legal system to Haller s own philosophies.
Much of the book revolves around the concept that the law is a machine, and that there are many
gray areas. Haller uses all of the technicalities of the law in order to provide for the best defense
of the client, and it is these technicalities or gray areas that is what makes the whole novel so
believable. An example of this is when his investigator, Raul Levin, gives Haller a video of
Roulet meeting the victim at the bar. Haller knows that he will have to turn it over to the
prosecution in accordance with the rule of discovery, but at the same time, he uses it to his
advantage because he didn t technically have to turn over anything until I was sure I planned to
use it in trial (105). In today s legal system, there are countless instances of cases winning on
technicalities or on very unspecific laws, so much that is clear to see how Haller s methods are
constantly replicated in the real world. 5.Haller is initially a very unlikeable character

Some typical problems they face are limited access to capital, lower equity investments, and less exposure to entrepreneurship. Minority entrepreneurs are twice as likely to be turned down for traditional lending, which can discourage them from even applying for a loan. Not only that but they are less likely to be considered by traditional or angel investors. They also generally live in run down areas, with poor schooling and less access to successful people. One entrepreneur who has hurdled over all the barriers and became extremely successful is Russell Simmons, the co founder of Def Jam Records. Biography of Russell Simmons Russell Simmons was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There hasn t been a label whose fortunes have been so intertwined with hip hops fortune. However, they were not the first label to put out rap and not as many revolutionary artists as one might think. So why do they have an almost mythical status? Def Jam got its status because Simmons recognized the worth of hip hop music, and saw how it could expand into a cultural revolution. Def Jam s started in Rick Ruban s NYU dorm, with each Simmons and Rubin only investing a few thousand dollars each. Their first official release was LL Cool J s I need a Beat. It sold more than 100,000 copies giving Simmons the leverage he needed to cut a deal with CBS Records for distribution. This deal was the first of its kind for hip hop. Simmons secured Def Jams future by making clever decisions that seemed insane at the time, such as pairing Run D.M.C. with Aerosmith on the cover of Walk This Way. The video of this duo finally got hip hop onto MTV, which had a negative view on rap at the time. Rubin left Def Jam in 1988, making Simmons the sole head of the company. Simmons also tried his hand in producing movies; his company s name is Simmons Lathan Media. His first of which was called Krush Groove (1985). HOFSTEDE S VALUE DIMENSIONS Many important assumptions can be drawn from comparing Singapore and America s scores on the Hofstede s Value Dimensions. Power distance describes how people respond to inequality in power in society (Daft). Singapore scores high on power distance, at 74 compared to the U.S s 40. This means that authority is centralized and control is to be expected (http://geert hofstede.com /singapore.html). An individualistic society is a society where individuals are expected to provide for themselves (Daft). Individualism ranks very low, scoring 20 compared to 91 in the U.S. This is where the biggest difference lies between American and Singapore. • 5. Analysis Of The Book Fist Stick Knife Gun By Geoffrey... Geoffrey Canada pens a book that is part biography, part social view, a very thoughtful look into inner city violence and the rules surrounding it. The book describes how his personal history with violence influenced his work with youth and the programs that he has started to support them. Geoffrey Canada describes the progression of violence that had happened in his lifetime. He also points out that there is a disturbing difference between what the streets were like in the 1960s compared to those of today. As great storyteller, Geoffrey Canada is thoroughly convincing. His Book Fist Stick Knife Gun, is a great explanation of violence and poverty in late 20th century here in America s inner cities. Of how he changed from a timid and frightened child into a young man who could hold his own in a fight in the streets, is written in a believable way. Canada actually learned the way of the streets because he grew up in the streets. All of his experiences first started when he was a child when he and his friends used their fists to settle disputes and to gain a reputation that would bring respect from the other kids in the neighborhood. At times, those disputes would escalate with other weapons like a knife. Having grown up in the South Bronx in the 1960s, Mr. Canada brings you to a time when violence was ever present but guns were not. At that time there were a very few adult men in the neighborhood, and the police were of very little assistance. Not even old enough ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Songs of Innocence, shows an idyllic view of religion, with a faithful boy entrusting his future to a higher power. In contrast, the second poem, Songs of Experience, shows a cynical view of religion with no hope for a better future. As a result of these ideas, the author conveys a sense of hopelessness for the future of these children, regardless of their ideals. Throughout Songs of innocence the rhyme scheme AABB CCDD and continues where two lines which rhyme before continuing to the next set. This has the effect of making the poem seem surreal or unrealistic, since it gives the poem a fluid and sing song like rhythm. The rhyme underscores the main idea of the subject matter of the poem by showing that the dream which Tom Dacre has and the hope that the narrator gains as a result of this dream, are purely fantasy. As the poem continues, the rhymes in the last stanza are not the same complete rhymes as the ones that were used in the beginning part of the poem. The words dark (l. 21) and work (l.22) along warm (l.23) and harm (l.24) are only half rhymes, again revealing the hope that the boys have that their hard work will be rewarded, is only an illusion. Similarly, The Chimney Sweeper Songs of Experience, uses AABB in the first stanza. This is done to show a clear dichotomy between the two speakers at the beginning of the poem. However, as the poem progresses, the rhyme scheme changes to CACA DEDE. As a result of the alternating lines in the poem, the fanatical element which was exhibited in the first poem is not present. Similarly, the concentration of viral particles is used in HIV/AIDS studies. Bone density is used in osteoporosis studies. A true endpoint must be a medical condition that a patient would want treated and a physician or dentist would agree deserves treatment. Surrogate endpoints are physiological or biochemical markers that are easier to measure than true endpoints. Surrogate endpoints often occur soon after the intervention in the disease process. In sociology, deviant behavior is a act that society, or the mass popular, thinks is unusual or different. For a behavior to be considered deviant it must violate a social rule, prove disapproval, or be a form of positive deviance. Deviant behavior can range from tattoo, unnatural dyed hair, criminology , completing math in pen, domestic violence, to listening to punk music. Sociologyis about revealing patterns and identifying underlining forces (TB). As stated above, deviance can be anything that is different than society s definition of normal. There are rules in place that the mass population upholds; there are means in place to ensure that those rules are followed, ie. police, teachers, etc. Erkison brings a very valid point to the dissuasion on societal deviance, Although we no longer attend public hangings or observe people held in stockades, we are aware of the way society punishes (or fails to punish) deviant acts; in so doing we continually redraw the social boundaries of acceptability (Erickson 17). • 15. The Louisiana Purchase Shaping America The Louisiana Purchase shaping America Christopher Richeson East Forsyth High School Mrs. Callendar American History 4th Period December 15, 2015 Abstract The Louisiana Purchase was a major event in the growth of the United States of America. Purchased from France for 15 million by Thomas Jefferson in 1803, it gave America twice the available land, adding 827,000 square miles. Some may argue the Louisiana Purchase is unconstitutional, but Jefferson found a way around that. The Constitution says land may be acquired through treaties such as the Louisiana Purchase. After the accusation of the Louisiana Territory, Jefferson had an expedition lead by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. The goal of the expedition was to map the new territory and find a quicker path to the Pacific Ocean. The entire expedition lasted a little longer than two years to complete. The Louisiana Purchase was a deal between The United States and France over 827,000 square miles west of the Mississippi River . (Wilson, G. 2003) It allowed for major expansion and growth for the small republic in 1803. What if France would have denied our efforts to acquire the land, would The Unites States be the same as it is today? The most efficient sponge patch at the deep site processed 0.166 cm3 cm 2 s 1 amount of seawater with 23 oscula collectively pumping. These numbers clearly show that C. reniformis specimens possessing few numbered large sized osculas, pump more efficiently than sponges with many small sized oscula. This raises a question in mind; is it better to have single enormous sized oscule or many smaller sized osculas? Our analysis marks out a discrete large sized oscule provides a clear advantage on pumping efficiency to the sponges living in the wave zone, but in the meantime at a cost of maintaining a smaller sized body and perhaps less growth. The sponge specimens living in the deeper zones compensates this disadvantage by spreading through a larger surface and forming many oscular openings. The shallow pristine site, Meteor Bay is generally protected from wave action, but there are regular storm events throughout the year. Absence of oceanic water currents leaves wave action as the major source of mixing and water movement. A possible advantage for C. reniformis specimens to acquire larger sized oscules might be described with the need of catching desired food particles in a water movement zone affected by wave action. Continuous oscillation of particles in a wave action could make it harder to catch desired particles for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the other hand, do we choose the path God would have us take not only changing our lives, but in the end instead of an eternity spent in the cold grip of death, we find eternal life? Why does the title emphasize the road not taken? The emphasis on the road not taken is Frost s way of making us think as we read this poem that no matter which way the speaker chose to go a road would always stay not taken. The speaker intended to complete his journey on the chosen path, then at another time go back, and take the other direction. • 24. Characteristics Of Romantic And Familial Love Love is a unique aspect of the human condition that does not seem to exist in any other lifeform. In spite of this, like many other traits that stem from evolution, it is likely that love is a product of that process as well. Regardless of whether it is subconscious or not, romantic and familial love seem to go hand in hand as people tend to seek qualities that may benefit a future family. It can be argued that the sensation felt by a large majority of the population, love, can be attributed to the selfish genes that inhabit the body. For the sake of argument, love can be described as the relationship between people and their concern for each other. Dawkins introduces processes like kin selection, mating strategies, and reciprocal altruismwhich may play a role in both romantic and familial love. To summarize these processes: kin selection is when an organism risks their own well being for a relative to increase the likelihood of genereplication, mating strategies describe the methods in which an organism uses to attract a mate, and reciprocal altruism is acting in a manner that temporarily reduces one s well being with the assumption that the apparent act of altruism will be reciprocated. Perhaps the most obvious example of kin selection is observed in familial relationships. Members of the family typically have a greater degree of care for each other in comparison to those unrelated. This love, or in this case, this concern for those related can be explained using the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

French colonial troops were the victims. Two days later another gas attack hit Canadian troops who had just entered the trenches. On both occasions the Germans inflicted thousands of casualties and penetrated enemy lines but failed to achieve the hoped for decisive results. • 30. Premises Liability Case Trip and fall or slip and fall cases are also referred to a premises liability. A claim such as this generally arises due to a defect in the property s floor that causes an individual to trip or slip and fall. The act of tripping or slipping on someone s property does not automatically trigger liability. The fact that the defect exists is irrelevant unless evidence establishes that the property owner was aware of the defect and neglected to fix it. The question in an Illinois liability claim is notice. Defining Notice Notice refers to what a property owner knows or should have known at the time of the incident. One of the classic notice situations involves a property owner knowing about a defect, but neglects to fix it. Evidence must be presented showing the number of times an owner was informed of the defect and ignored it. Also, looking at whether or not organic food or non organic food is healthier for you. Throughout a one week period, data was collected each day by a ranking system on a scale of 1 to 5. The rank gave a number for how much mold grew after one day. 1 meaning no mold and 5 meaning more than 10 spots of mold. The three foods involved in this study were cheese, strawberries, and bananas. There were an organic and non organic foodfor each food item. The food was placed in a dark and warm cabinet. It is claimed that non organic food will grow mold faster based on the number of mold spots grown because mold likes to grow in the dark better. Other studies explained there is not a significant difference nutritionally between organic and non organic foods. Introduction How does the method of growing organic food affect the growth of mold and nutritional value versus non organic foods? This question is significant because many people buy organic food because they think it is healthier. Also, since non organic foods usually have more preservatives in them to make them last longer, the assumption is that non organic foods will mold faster. As with biodiversity, the planet has also experienced major losses in the services derived from ecosystems. During the last century, for example, the planet has lost 50% of its wetlands, 40% of its forests and 35% of its mangroves. Around 60% of global ecosystem services have been degraded in just 50 years. This loss of Biodiversity is a phenomenon that has currently been under scrutiny. Markandya states The topic of biodiversity loss has been the subject of a vast and growing scientific and economic literature. Species are estimated to be going extinct at rates 100 to 1000 times faster than in geological times. Malcolm McCallum, author of Vertebrate Biodiversity Losses Point to a Sixth Mass Extinction brings the grim figures to light, The human race faces many global to local challenges in the near future. Among these are massive biodiversity losses. The 2012 IUCN/SSC Red List reported evaluations of ~56 % of all vertebrates. This included 97 % of amphibians, mammals, birds, cartilaginous fishes, and hagfishes. It also contained evaluations of ~50 % of lampreys, ~38 % of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Criminal defense attorney Mickey Haller is presented with his latest client, Beverly Hills playboy, Louis Roulet. Roulet is accused of rape and murder but this does not trouble Haller; on the contrary, he revels in it because it means he is being offered a franchise case, or a case offering a huge payout. Naturally, Haller takes the offer but what is unique about this case is that for the first time ever, Haller thinks he may have an innocent client. This is very worrying as Haller s father once said There is no client as scary as an innocent man. As the case continues, however,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Haller meets Roulet for the first time in jail, the author lightly introduces the issue of jailhouse snitches. Although it is only a brief moment that Haller urges Roulet to stay quiet, it is an important moment that highlights an extremely common problem in today s jail system, which is that of eavesdroppers and the way they can further endanger their fellow criminals. Furthermore, Connelly excels at comparing the legal system to Haller s own philosophies. Much of the book revolves around the concept that the law is a machine, and that there are many gray areas. Haller uses all of the technicalities of the law in order to provide for the best defense of the client, and it is these technicalities or gray areas that is what makes the whole novel so believable. An example of this is when his investigator, Raul Levin, gives Haller a video of Roulet meeting the victim at the bar. Haller knows that he will have to turn it over to the prosecution in accordance with the rule of discovery, but at the same time, he uses it to his advantage because he didn t technically have to turn over anything until I was sure I planned to use it in trial (105). In today s legal system, there are countless instances of cases winning on technicalities or on very unspecific laws, so much that is clear to see how Haller s methods are constantly replicated in the real world. 5.Haller is initially a very unlikeable character ...
