Compare And Contrast Essay Structure
Crafting an essay on the intricacies of "Compare and Contrast Essay Structure" can be a
challenging endeavor. The difficulty lies not only in the need for a comprehensive understanding
of the topic but also in the nuanced skill of drawing meaningful connections and distinctions
between two subjects.
To begin with, one must delve deep into the characteristics of the subjects under consideration.
This involves thorough research, critical analysis, and the ability to discern subtle differences and
similarities. The challenge is heightened by the necessity to maintain a balance in highlighting
both aspects without sounding biased or favoring one subject over the other.
Structuring the essay itself poses another layer of difficulty. Striking the right balance between
introduction, body, and conclusion is crucial. Each section must seamlessly flow into the next,
providing a logical progression of ideas. Ensuring that the reader can follow the comparative
analysis without getting lost in a sea of information requires finesse.
Furthermore, crafting a compelling thesis statement is no small feat. It must encapsulate the
essence of the comparison and contrast while hinting at the roadmap the essay will follow. This
demands a keen understanding of the subjects at hand and a knack for succinctly summarizing
complex ideas.
Transitions between points are also a critical aspect. Smooth transitions guide the reader through
the essay, helping them navigate the comparisons and contrasts effortlessly. Failure to achieve
this can result in a disjointed and confusing narrative.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the structure of compare and contrast essays is a multifaceted
challenge. It requires not only a deep understanding of the subjects being compared but also a
mastery of the art of essay writing. Navigating the intricacies of research, analysis, and structure
demands time, effort, and a keen eye for detail.

Violence In Leadership
Did you know that violence accounts for more than 1.6 million deaths every year?
Violence has been around us our whole lives and is something that will never come
to a stop. Violence will continue through the rest of our lives and the lives to come
in the future if someone doesn t step up and try to take a stand. Society s leading
problem is violence and can only be helped through the kind of leadership that
demonstrates Trust and Integrity, Confidence, and a good communication. First,
trust and integrity are one of my three most important qualities that every leader
needs to have if they are gonna try to stop violence within our society. Trust and
integrity is a key quality on how we can try to stop the problem of violence in our
society. Talking about integrity, Oprah Winfrey said: Real integrity is doing the
right, knowing that nobody s going to know whether you did it or not. What she
said kinda ties into to trust as well because everyone is gonna know that you re
going to do it and do well. Trust and Integrity would be important for a leader to stop
the violence because it shows a sense of trust and shows that the leader will do the
right thing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Confidence is very important because when you make decisions and you aren t
confident about them. Then your followers are gonna realize that you have no clue
what you are doing and they won t trust you. Henry David Thoreau once said Public
opinion is a weak tyrant compared with our own private opinion. What man thinks of
himself, that is which determines, or rather indicates, his fate. What he is trying to
say is that, if you don t have enough confidence in yourself then you will not

Golden Square Mile 19th Century
The Golden Square Mile, once home to Montreal s upper class citizens, is an area of
one square mile lined with beautiful Victorian homes, public parks and a profusion of
architectural masterpieces. Originally not more than a public, informal meeting space,
Dorchester Square was slowly transformed from a rural area, to a quiet, residential
space, to a bustling commercial hub. Through this shift, one can view how radically
city spaces can change, mirroring the social and economic conditions of a population.
In the late 18th century, Dorchester Square was the site of a small Jewish cemetery
and, in the turning of the 19th century, a Catholic burial ground was added to the
east. The city administrators wanted a rural cemetery further away from ... Show more

construction of St. George s Anglican
Episcopal Church in 1869 was beginning to form a dividing line between the estates
and suburbs of the North West and the commercial areas to the East. All the churches
as well as the
Noutsios 2 residential and commercial complexes contributed to the centralization of
the square by appointing it as a meeting point and formalizing it as a prestige location.
From then on, the construction of bourgeois houses and mansions divided Victorian
Montreal into two distinct poles: the rich municipalities on the hillsides of Mount
Royal and the poor sectors on the lower terrace. The well off merchants, lawyers
and businessmen, according to political writer, Stephen Leacock, [enjoyed] a
prestige in that era that not even the rich deserve (Marsan 258). Meanwhile, the poor

remarkable estates like the Prince of Wales Terrace, the

The Energy Crisis In America
The energy crisis in America is often placed on the back burner to the average
American citizen. Generally, one will only care about this crisis when the price of
gas changes. The energy crisis, however, is a prominent issue as it is ongoing and
getting worse, despite many efforts (Rinkesh). The world s natural resources, such
as oil, coal, and natural gas, cannot supply the world s increasing demand. The
amount of crude oil available is only 2 percent higher than the demand for it
(Muise). If the demand expands any higher, then the limited supply of natural
resources will be gone for good ( Learn about Energy ). It is projected that there is
enough oil to last 34 more years, enough natural gas to last 53 more years, and
enough coal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since no one has been able to propose a solution that is realistic, I put the solution
upon myself. I have created a bulletproof plan that will not only solve the energy
crisis, but it will help to decrease in obesity, the environment, and create jobs killing
four birds with one stone. Humans all around the world will defeat this problem
by creating and providing their own energy for themselves. They will do this by
riding a bike, that will be connected to a power bank, in one s own house. Every
day, before and after work, people will ride a bike. The power bank will be linked
to household appliances such as the refrigerators TVs, and heating systems. The
longer the person rides it, then the more electricity they get for their house. The
average hour riding a bike will provide 6 hours of electricity. Of course, this is also
dependent on how many electricity run products are in one s home If the person
has more electrical items, then they will need to ride for longer amounts of time
because the energy will be traveling to copious places. Using this method of energy
will decrease the use of harmful fossil fuels and decrease the amount of unpredictable
renewable resources by creating man made energy that can supply the needs of

Background
Eastern Waves Inc. is a steel manufacturing company located in Kuantan, Malaysia.
In 2009, Eastern Waves cash on hand was 188 ringgits (RM). In the previous year,
they had an even lower cash balance of RM188. Without cash, Eastern Waves are
unable to purchase raw materials from local raw material suppliers. Eastern currently
has a joint venture relationship with Jinan amp; Iron Steel Corp., which enables
Eastern to buy scrap steel on credit from the Jinan plate mill operation. This scrap
steel is crucial to Eastern s success given the market price of the purchased raw steel
billets. However, the scrap steel is of a lower grade than the standard raw steel billet.

The protection of Malaysian upstream steel industry was affecting local downstream
steel millers as they were forced to buy from the more expensive domestic suppliers.
The government are attempting to promote cordial relationships between
employers and employees and industrial harmony based on social justice and
equity. The minimum wage for an employee is RM1500 per month. The labor
regulations attempt to protect the domestic workers. As a result, the Malaysian
industries still rely heavily on cheap foreign workers. In order to reverse the
dependency on foreign workers and promote domestic workers, the government
has recently imposed an annual level of RM125 1500 on each foreign worker and
limited their work stay to only two years per permit. Eastern Wave is a small steel
manufacturing company in Malaysia. It has several plants in Malaysia and China
and produce various downstream steel products such as angle steel, I beam, and

Current Issues
The Malaysian government s trade barrier on billets in order to protect the domestic
billet producers has greatly affected the bottom lines of the downstream steel
manufacturing companies. The domestic billet price is 15 25% higher than the
international billet price. On the other hand, the government

The Mystery of Rocks
The Mystery of Rocks
In geology, a rock is solid, naturally occurring, is made up of one or more minerals.
Rocks are lying on the ground everywhere. Death Valley National Park is in the U.S.
states of California and Nevada. It contains many mysteries, involving one of nature s
strangest phenomenon where rocks seem to move all around on their own. In the
remote, almost totally dry lakebed called Racetrack Playa, some of the rocks move
across the desert when people aren t watching. What makes the rocks move?
Although, nobody has seen the rocks in motion, the leading theory is wind and ice.
The Racetrack is a scenic dry lake with sailing stones crossing it. It is located on the
northwestern side of Death Valley, in Death Valley National Park, California, U.S.
The playa is flat surface, dry without any plants and it doesn t rain that much.
When its dry in the Playa, the surface is covered with small, but solid mud crack
polygons. The sailing stones are a geological event found in the Racetrack. Big
rocks ranging hundred pounds are found in the Playa (King2). They carve and make
tracks as they move across the playa floor by themselves going uphills and in a
different directions without human or animal action. Scientists have been studied this
case for many years, but no one has seen the stones moving with their own eyes.

Grauballe Man Poem Meaning
The Grauballe Man, is a bog body that has been preserved for more than two
thousand years, is one of Seamus Heaney s North collection poems. Historically,
the Grauballe Man is considered to be one of the most well preserved body of all
time. It was discovered in the peat bogs in Jutland, Denmark. The body showed signs
of violence indicating that the man was murdered rather than dying of natural causes.
Heaney s poem indicates his preoccupation with the body because it evokes him of
the atrocities that has happened during The Trouble. Heaney utilizes imagery to
describe the bog body, utilizes metaphor to associate bogbody and the victims of
Northern Ireland, and utilizes allusion to make historical references. Heaney explains

He connects the Grauballe Man with a famous sculpture in order to connect one
thing with another. Heaney states that, hung in the scales with beauty and atrocity:
with the Dying Gaul too strictly compassed. Dying Gaul is a Hellenistic sculpture
that realistically depicts the pain and suffering experienced by a dying man, the
root of the reference is that the pose of the sculpture reminiscences the death
position of the bog man. Heaney uses the allusion of Dying Gaul in order to make
the reader develop the idea of the unification of artifice and nature, which reveals
the unique characteristics of human beings. Additionally, the Grauballe Man itself,
is also an allusion. The allusion of the Grauballe Man exemplifies the brutal
history that has happened in the North. The Grauballe Man personifies the
sacrifices for religious excursions in Northern Ireland during The Troubles.
Furthermore, the cured wound opens inward to a dark elderberry place exemplifies
that the open wound will forever be exposed to the brutality and the violence that is
happening in Northern Ireland. However, it is very ironic because the wounds of
the bog body can never be cured because the body cannot develop or heal itself
Sully Movie Analysis
When the movie Sully first came out, it received a wide range of mixed reviews
from both critics and normal movie goers alike. Although everyone is entitled to
their own opinion, not everyone agrees with what other people think. Because
Sully is a movie that is based on a true real life event, society has mixed reviews
about how the movie was played out because it was based on a real event. Three
movie critics gave their thoughts on the movie and each one has different views then
the other reviewer does on the producer of the movie Clint Eastwood, the captain,
Sully, National Transportation Safety Board, and the co pilot, Jeffrey Skiles, whom
will all be seen in this essay. Sully will go down in history as the movie that had
both a wide range of reviews and also told the story of a government agency trying
to put the blame on a worldwide hero. Because Sully is based off an event that
involves an airplane, the safety personnel had to get involved to investigate the cause
if the accident. Due to the fact that the National Transportation Safety Board is made
up of many highly intelligent people, there was bound to give way to issues that
arrived between the captain who landed the plane, Captain Sully, and the National
Transportation Safety Administration know as NTSB for short. The NTSB was in
charge of investigating the event because it deals with transportation. Matthew
Lickona and Scott Marks are both movie critics who work for the San Diego Reader.

Romeo and Juliet, Tragedy or Romance
Romeo and Juliet, Tragedy or Romance? What determines what a true love story
is? Many events in Romeo and Juliet make the audience question whether or not
they are truly in love or are just blinded by a false or not true version of a not so deep
feeling. Romeo and Juliet is a famous love story but it stands out compared to other
lovestories. Romeo and Juliet continue to be a true love story to this day. They are
married at a young age and differentiate from other love stories, it s still considered
to be true love, though some aspects of the novel are considered to be more tragic
than romantic. Most people in this world will do just about anything for true love
and, given the chance; will go to major lengths to prove that they are in love, even
getting married at a very young age. To begin with, most people will do anything
for true love. According to Definition of Love, Simple infatuation is often called a
crush or puppy love . (Definition of Love, par. 1). This means that some people are
only in love for a small time or not in love very much. People like a teacher, and
uncle or aunt, a friend or family [or] an actor or actress (Definitions of Love, par. 1)
are examples of people we love but not very strong or for a very long time. Simple
infatuation is not true love. It is but a sliver of what true love really feels like a
silly dream that we have. Romeo and Juliet s love was so strong that nothing would
get in the way of their marriage, not even their age. Many
Reflection About Divorce
Divorce is difficult on the children involved. When my parents finalized their
divorce, it was decided that for the majority of the summer we would stay with our
mother. The divorce occurred when my brothers and I were very young. My
mother lived in a small, unremarkable town named Evart that is north of Lansing.
Our grandmother lived in the outskirts of nearby Reed City. We spent most of our
time during the summer at her cramped little trailer. The trailer she lived in was on
a decently sized plot of land. Her home was situated on a hill that leveled out
quickly as the path led to the road. The yard was expansive with hard brown grass
covering a small portion with dirt covering the rest. On one side of the trailer was
a large red barn with chipped paint. On the other side was an old brown camper that
held two beds and an old television with an antenna resting on the top. There was no
backyard as the trailer was a few feet from a wooden fence that had barbed wire
across the top to stop the neighbor s horses from entering the property. The camper
is where my brother and I slept while with my grandmother. The property where my
brother Sabastian and I stayed at shaped some of the ways my personality
developed. When our mother left us at my grandmother s she would take my oldest
brother Andrew with her, leaving my older brother Sabastian and I with our
grandma. We were mostly independent; we were not allowed in the house so we
roamed the property playing with the dogs
Nuclear Arms Race Research Paper
There were many impacts of the nuclear arms race. Some we re positive, and some
were negative. The nuclear arms race was a race to advance nuclear technology. This
race was primarily between the Soviet Union and the United States. There were large
monetary investments from both nations into their nuclear arms programs. Everyone
thought both sides would be destroyed in the end, both economically and physically.
The nuclear arms race impacted civilians, economies, military, and technology in both
nations.
The nuclear arms race was caused by the decreasing Soviet American relations. This
was because the United States wanted to control all atomic knowledge and weaponry.

Superstition And Religion
Superstition and Religion: How It Affects Western and Eastern Medicine My
personal experiences with religion and superstition are skewed due to the
evolvement of the way I perceive things today. Furthermore, I can easily realize that
I do not have this one set mind where everything should revolve around God and the
Catholic Church. Taking time to understand why certain things happen for a reason,
and gradually becoming aware of what people choose to believe in shaped my
personal views on religionand the beliefs of unseen forces today. Based on Marvin
Harris, the world may never have a solid answer as to why and how cultures decided
to establish religious beliefs as well as superstition. As for the Hmong culture,
however, there is a sign of major controversy with beliefs in religion and superstition.
The practices of Eastern and Western medicine will meet in the middle despite culture
clashes.
The reasons behind why people believe in religion as well as how religious culture
has evolved can be seen in Marvin Harris article, Why We Became Religious .
Harris, an anthropologist, defines the differences between spiritual beliefs and
superstition. People perceive the importance of the role of spirituality as well as the
unseen. Harris exemplifies this point with the term mana , which means magical
power in the Melanesian language. He goes on to discuss how Western culture
expresses the concepts of luck with baseball players who touch their caps or spit and

However, this gave way to an entrepreneurial approach that primarily focused on
local development and employment growth in the following decades. This is
mirrored across the capitalist world, but is perhaps most evident in the United
States where the reduction in the flow of federal redistributions and local tax
revenues after 1972 led to this revival in civic boosterism and entrepreneurialism
(Harvey, 1989). It certainly has far reaching consequences in that future growth
prospects may all be about playing the capitalist game , the paving to a zero sum
development. To that, Harvey asserted that urban entrepreneurialism (1) is based on
public private partnership so that local boosterism attracts external sources of
funding, direct investments, and employment sources, (2) is speculative in general
and thus compounded with risks and difficulties that are absorbed by the local
public sector, and (3) places emphasis on political economy rather than economic
projects that improve living and working conditions. The extension is a prime
example of this because it was intended to bring business and entertainment to the
Hudson Yards neighborhood, and it did many businesses in the area have seen
increased profits since the project s construction leading to a development boom in
its vicinity. However, it faced its own risks and difficulties from the start, seeing that
it was supposed to be funded by an innovative tax incremental financing that issued
city bonds for the construction to be repaid by future tax revenue from developers

into the hair and depiction of the human form across these two art styles. Just by
looking at a statue of the Buddha from Gandhara and a roman statue of an
important figure, it looks like they could be from the same place. However, it was
the way the silk road allowed cultures to interact and influence each other that
caused this connection. Looking at the Gandharan pieces found at the Sackler
Gallery, it is easy to see how the Roman influence carried over to many works of art.
Looking specifically at a statue of the head of the Buddha (Figure 1), one can get an
Causes Of Social Media
Social media can be used for many purposes. Throughout the years social media has
grown around the world. As social media is rising, adults and teenagers are joining
social outlets such as Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram. Even though social media
is a big impact in today s society it could do more harm than good. Social media can
cause harm because of isolation, bullying, and it could be dangerous.
One reason for my belief is that social media can cause isolation. Because of social
media individuals are connected by texting, calling on the phone, or video chatting
but this replaces real interactions and can make an individual feel left out. A study
of 1,787 participants expressed their feelings as I feel that people are around me
but not with me. Individuals also expresses, I feel that people barely know me
(Willingham). Also, social media has caused a decline in social events. Miller
McPherson, Lynn Smith Lovin and Mathew Brashear s who are all sociologist s
comments They depicted the rise of internet and mobile phones as one of the major
trends that pulls people away from traditional social settings, neighborhoods,
voluntary associations, and public spaces that have been associated with large and
diverse core networks (Hampton). Even though social media is a significant part of
communication at a certain point it could make an individual isolate themselves and
from their surroundings. Another reason for my belief is that social media can cause
bullying. Bullying
An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge Essay
In the short story, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, by the Realist author,
Ambrose Bierce, claimed to prefer the representative rather than the extraordinary a
face of life that is generally untrue. For example, the details throughout the story sight
proved that the author had witnessed the situation and had his story to truthfully tell,
He was a captain. A sentinel at each end of the bridge stood with his rifle in the
position known as support, that is to say, vertical in front of the left shoulder, the

the reader s hopes up by insisting on one circumstance while foreshadowing the

indicated an acknowledgment of facts instead of assumptions and took advantage
of this time to show accurate descriptions of American history. In The Ledge, by
Lawrence sargent Hall, he claimed that Naturalism was expressed through his use
of detached style of narration, accuracy of detail, and individuals being controlled
by society. If the story were from a personal perspective, situations throughout it

Management Theories During The Industrial Revolution
During the industrial revolution, a number of management theories were introduced
which have helped contribute to our understanding of the structure of management in
the current business setting. These many different theories have assisted managers in
conceptualising new ways of the organisation and managementof their workplace.
Several theories have influenced and contributed to today s modern management
theories, these include the Scientific Management Theory, which was introduced by
Frederick Taylor and the Human Relations Movement developed by Elton Mayo and
his work on the Hawthorne studies. Both of these theories tried to introduce the best
way possible to achieve maximum productivity within the work place. This essay will
discuss the contributions of these theories in the development of the modern
management theory, and in particular, how these past theories have contributed to the
development of the contingency theory, and two separate approaches to modern
management, in the quantitative and behavioural approach.
Scientific management Fredrick Taylor
Several modern management theories have been shown to have their roots stemming
from the ideologies of the scientific management theory. The basic principles of
scientific management include standardised work activity based on measurement and
formulae, workers are matched to tasks, coordination of activities in order to execute
a number of related tasks and separation of planning and execution with the aim of
maximum output. (4) The scientific management theory explores the idea that
managers should manage and the workers should work. The industrial revolution era
brought the need to bring about an increase in the effective rate of output and
productivity and that led to the introduction of the scientific management theory by
Frederick W. Taylor. Taylor was an engineer interested in efficiencies through work
measurement and coordination of tasks and focused on the problems of dividing up
labour tasks. He believed that the most efficient methods for completing a task and
for the selection, development and motivation of employees could be scientifically
determined, Taylor concluded that there was one best way to achieve things (4).
Taylor had four
Spinal Cord Protective Structures
Protective Structures of the Brain and Spinal Cord
The brain and spinal cord are surrounded and protected by three different sets of
structures/tissues.
1.Bony skull (cranial cavity) and vertebral column (vertebral canal)
2.Meninges connective tissue coverings dura mater, arachnoid mater, pia mater
3.Cerebrospinal fluid filled cavity subarachnoid space, cisterns and ventricles of brain
and central canal of spinal cord.
The outermost coverings are the bony skull (cranium) and the vertebral column;
within the cranial cavity and vertebral canal of which are located the brain and spinal
cord, respectively. Within these, the brain and spinal cord are surrounded by three

It also holds venous sinuses between its two layers to drain the venous blood out of
the cranial cavity and brain.
The middle arachnoid mater (meaning spider web membrane) is thin and has an
underlying meshwork of subarachnoid space containing major blood vessels, their
branches and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The arachnoid membrane forms protrusions
called arachnoid villi/ granulations that project into the dural venous sinuses for
drainage of the CSF. The CSF forms a watery cushion that provides additional
protection, allows buoyancy of the brain making it lighter in weight and acts as
lymph for volumetric balance, metabolic and excretory functions.
The inner pia mater (meaning soft mother), is also a very thin vascular layer that is
firmly connected with the neuroglial tissue in the brain and spinal cord. It conveys
the blood vessels and hence nutrition and oxygen into the substance of the brain and
spinal cord. The arachnoid and piamater are together also referred to as
leptomeninges (lepto means thin and delicate) (Table
Interview Questions On Counseling And Counseling
I was able to interview four people about their perceptions and beliefs about
counseling. I noted differences and similarities among their responses which bring
about a clearer perspective on the reality of counseling as a profession. The family
and friends I choose to interview about their perspective on counselingincluded my
mom Cathy, my brother Ben and my friend Mackenzie. I interviewed a counselor
named Chris who is a youth leader at my church. Chris works at Penn State Hershey
Medical Center Psychiatry Unit with adults doing individual, couple and family
counseling. The responses given through these interviews allowed for a broader and
clearer view of the perception and reality of counseling. The first question posed to
the interviewees was what happens in a typical counseling session. My mom, Cathy
stated she thoughtthe counselor asks questions to the client and listens. She went on
to explain the counselor is trying to get to the root of the problem. The process of
counseling is done through the lens of empathy according to Cathy. Mackenzie states
the counseling begins by the counselor asking the new client questions about him or
herself. The counselor is trying to figure out what brought the client into counseling
and discuss what goals can be achieved. Ben thought counseling session starts with
the client telling the counselor how they are feeling. The counselor is able to move
the client past the surface and move to the issues that lie beneath the surface
Winds That Influence Ocean Currents
Winds, water density, and tides all drive ocean currents. Coastal and sea floor
features influence their location, direction, and speed. Earth s rotation results in the
Coriolis Effect which also influences ocean currents and any moving mass as long
as it moves, so water in a gyre might be expected to curve to the center of The North
Atlantic and stop. Winds and ocean waters get deflected from a straight line path as
they travel across the rotating Earth. This phenomenon causes ocean currents in the
Northern Hemisphere to veer to the right and in the Southern Hemisphere to the
left. The deep water currents or thermohaline circulation of water is also called the
Global Conveyor Belt. It takes almost 1000 years for it to complete one cycle around
Ken Elton Kesey Essay
Ken Elton Kesey, author and guru of the hippie generation, was born on September
17, 1935, in La Junta, Colorado. However, Kesey was brought up in Springfield,
Oregon, where his parents had a dairy farm and he was prominent in wrestling, as
well as playing football. Kesey also developed an interest in theatre at the University
of Oregon at this time, but a scholarship for his accomplishments in wrestling
deterred him from pursuing an acting career.
After marrying Norma Faye Haxby, Kesey s high school girlfriend, he considered a
career as an actor once more, but instead he won a scholarship to the graduate
program in writing at Stanford University (A E Networks Television, 23 Mar. 2016)
and enrolled there in 1958 (Public Broadcasting Service, n.d.). While attending
Stanford in 1960, Kesey began volunteering as a paid experimental subject by the
U.S. Army. During these experiments, he was given mind altering drugs and told to
report on the effects. Simultaneously, he worked as an attendant in a psychiatric ward

Keep Your Coins, I Want Change
Over a century ago Antonio Gramsci extrapolated on the theory of hegemony derived
from Marxist ideology. Gramsci sees hegemony, in the context of culture, as a
dominant group who holds the most power and asserts it through controlling
dominant messages. Alternatively, counter hegemony is the oppositional voice to
these messages. People who are part of the dominant group live with dominant
messages may not be aware that they are hegemonic reinforcements. That is where
counter hegemonycomes in to disrupt the dominant message and show its flaws or
reminds us that they are just conditionings and that we actually have a choice of
other alternatives (Edgar Sedgwick). One artist who works with these messages is
Banksy. He is a cultural jammer... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Counter hegemony could also help a society to function because it can bring in
new and better ideas. Like with Banksy s artwork messages can be put into the
public to inform them of different choices. I think Gramsci s theory is too linear in
some aspects like when he mentions that we are all controlled by hegemonic
messages, if this were so, then counter hegemony would never be able to change
anything. Feminisim is an example of a counter hegemonic message that has
changed peoples perceptions. Another critique of this theory is that hegemony is
apparently completely bad and desperately needs to change. If it were so bad, I
believe people would have no problem dismantling it. If rebellion didn t exist,
especially in art, what would happen? Would culture decay? Cultural jamming seems
to take concepts from Gramsci s ideas because it uses counter hegemony to fight
against capitalist hegemony and disrupt normal values. Banksy again is a good
example of this with his work because he chooses anonymity in a generation that
seems to emphasize fame and popularity. Ironically his fame and the worth of his art
seems to dominate the messages which are more important in front of it. Counter
hegemony art in a capitalist society? Without
USA policy of containment
Was the US policy of Containment a success or a failure?
It was in a speech made by the 33rd President of the United States of America, Harry
Truman in which he announced a policy that would undoubtedly shape the way his
nation would be looked at for much of the century (or at least the half of it that
remained). It was in this speech that he announced his very own Doctrine, intended to
to support free people who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or
by outside pressures. , to save the free peoples of Eastern Europe from the monster
known as Communism, a political ideology born out of the Russian Revolution of
1917, that had spread somewhat like a plague, throughout the lands in the East, which

Initially, American leaders were unsure about how exactly containment would be
implemented. Would it be applied everywhere? Would it involve economic aid to help
nations reconstruct their economies? Would it involve military confrontation? The
answer was to come soon.
In June 1947, the United States announced the Marshall Plan, intended to help
economic recovery in Europe and thus prevent the spread of Communism in a
Europe that was increasingly becoming a breeding ground of hate , thus providing a
comforting environment for the rise of the Marxist ideology. At first, the Marshall
Plan seemed to be a success, with economic aid worth $17 billion being made
available to Europe and ensuring the protection of democratic governments in Turkey
and Greece. Marshall Aid did help economic recovery in Europe, erasing
unemployment and improving living standards greatly. Most Western European
nations were happy to accept American aid in order to redevelop their economies.
However, Stalin forbade any Eastern European countries from accepting the Plan and
setup organizations like the Cominform and Comecon instead, to further tighten
Stalin s grip over Eastern Europe.
One of containment s major aims was also to ensure that West Germany and West
Berlin could get its economy back on track to prevent the infiltration of Communism
from East Germany, controlled by the Soviets. In 1946, the Allied zones of Germany
were combined
Whitney Museum of Art Essay
The Whitney Museum of American Art has often been referred to a citadel of
American Art, partially due to the museums façade, a striking granite building
(Figure 1), designed by Bauhaus trained architect Marcel Breuer. The museum
perpetuates this reference through its biennial review of contemporary American Art,
which the Whitney has become most famous for. The biennial has become since its
inception a measure of the state of contemporary artin America today.
Since the Museum s opening in 1931, the collection has grown to more than 12,000
paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, and photographs, representing nearly 2,000
individual artists and providing the most complete overview of twentieth century
American art of any museum in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in the 2004 biennial their was 113 artists shown, consistent with the
2000 show of around 103 artists. The Whitney seems determined to include as much
art as possible that can fit in their relatively small sized museum in order to better
reflect the condition of the art scene in contemporary America.
To fully understand the role of the biennial today, we must look to its past. The
earliest Biennials were assembled informally; easy groups of artists and museum
personnel made the selections. Most of those in the show lived in New York City,
although many had originally come from elsewhere. In 1937, the format was
changed and the exhibitions became Annuals, with one year for painting, one for
sculpture and various media. Some years, a single Whitney curator chose pieces;
sometimes an outsider was added. In 1973, they went back to Biennials. Today the
tradition remains the same as was begun fully in 1973. Increasingly in current shows
curators search out a wide range of ethnic and gender varieties to fully grasp the
breadth of American culture that is represented in current art work. Their has been
much criticism of the Whitney and their exclusion of non American artists. There are
sections of critics who believe that the Whitney is only
What Is The Reflection Of The Private Life Of Henry Viii
The goal of The Private Life of Henry VIII was to show King Henry s life behind
closed doors. As king, Henry needed to put on a very masculine, tough, and stern
image to protect his people, but behind the scenes, he was a hopeless romantic
searching for someone to rule with. He hides his soft side from everyone in the
kingdom, which the movie accurately shows. At first, the movie portrays Henry in
a negative light. He seems very evil: killing one wife and immediately marrying the
next. He is short with his courts people and comes off profoundly uncultured. At
his meals, he devours his food and throws the bones on the floor. He is constantly
needing to be cleaned up after and watched. Even though he shows this ignorant
side to everyone else, he secretly cares about his image and how he acts. He goes to
get his beard trimmed and comes down his hair before he talks to a woman he is
interested in. When he talks to Catherine Howard, his fifth wife, he knocks on the
door before coming in. He talks sweetly to her and isn t short with her. Although he
portrayed this tough guy with the kingdom, he was a teddy bear at heart hoping for
love and affection. Henry didn t always want an everlasting love. Jane Seymours (his
third wife), life was hardly even shown. The movie showed when the maids were
preparing the bed for their wedding night and not much else. Henry had an appetite
for sex and didn t really care about the woman herself. He even makes a comment

Biblical archaeology is defined as a sect of archeological studies that refers to the
study of lands found in the Bible and their history (biblicalarchaeology.org). The
firsthand goal of Biblical archaeology is to prove the authority of scripture through
providing concrete evidence that the Bible lines up with accepted geography and
history. The JerusalemSiege Tower shows the accuracy of what was described as

the places that Jesus spoke of while performing miracles really existed, and still do.

(Shanks, 86 87) Two archaeologists, Ronny Reich and Eli Shuckron, were excavating
in the area of the Gidhon Valley, at the outset of the tunnel. While digging in the kings
garden, Shuckron noticed two steps in the ground, and after getting clearance from
the Israeli Antiquities Authority, they began to excavate that area, discovering the
true location of the Siloam Pool. (Shanks, 88)
The Pool was then identified to be a trapezoid shape and around 225 long, with
steps on the at least three of the exteriors. Archaeologists were also able to identify
that the pool went through two phases, and that the stone steps were a part of the
second phase. In the first phase, the steps were actually plastered, not stone. They
also found coins inside the plaster, which dated back to the assumed first phase of
the pool. The coins were all dated back to the era of the Jewish king, Alexander
Jannaeus, who would be succeeded by Herod the Great. Therefore, archaeologists
can conclude that the pool was developed the late Hasmonean period or early
Herodian period. Excavators also found Second Temple pottery, which had all been
finished in the Roman destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD, and coins from the First
Jewish revolt against Rome, which lasted from 66 to 70 AD. With this knowledge,
archaeologists could conclude that the pool was in use until the end of the revolt. The
pool eventually disappeared under
Children Of The Lucky Country Case Study
Australia, a nation known as The Lucky Country , has an excellent award winning
democratic society with a booming economy. It is a land with unique fauna, climate,
great golden beaches and natural resources. Despite increasing economic prosperity
and technological advancement, many Australian children are not benefiting from
the progress. In fact, for some the reality is an actual decline in the vital areas of
health, education and opportunity. Although, the trends in infections, survival at
birth and in infancy, accidents and deaths in the primary school years, death rates
from severe diseases such as cancers, and overall life expectancy have all
improved. However, the levels of many problems affecting children and young
people are worryingly high and appear to be increasing. Therefore, while death rates
have fallen, proportions of children and youth with complex diseases such as asthma,
diabetes, overweight and obesity, intellectual disabilities and particularly
psychological problems such as depression, suicide and eating disorders have
increased. Similar is the trend in premature births and physical disabilities such as
cerebral palsy. Such concerns about children and young people in the lucky country
were raised by the Australian of the Year 2003, Fiona Stanley and inspired her to

Definition Of Coronary Artery Disease
Definition of Coronary Artery Disease
Coronary artery disease (CAD) develops when plaque builds up in the narrow arteries
of the heart. The arteries that are affected supply blood to your heart, oxygen, and
numerous amounts of nutrients to the heart. The plaque that builds in the arteries is
from the amount of cholesterol that is accumulated in the arteries. The plaque that
builds within the arteries of the heart decrease the blood flow to the heart often
resulting in chest pain (angina), shortness of breath, or other symptoms. This disease
is often not diagnosed until the patient has a heart attack. The reason that coronary

wildfire that Jon Walker (the replacement for Brent Wilson) and original band
member Ryan Ross had left the group. Ryan and Jon felt they needed to take some
time to themselves. On February 1st, 2011, Panic released the first track on their
third studio album, The Ballad Of Mona Lisa , and their first song without Ross and
Walker, but introduced Ian Crawford and Dallon Weekes. On March 22nd, 2011, the
album named Vices Virtues was officially released, thus returning the exclamation in
Panic! at the Disco.
2013 was a revolutionary time for P!ATD, it was their escalation from their original

Interpretation Of Seismic Data Recorded By Earthquake...
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1Motivation
Interpretation of seismic data recorded by earthquake seismographs and that obtained
in seismic reflection surveys conducted in the search for hydrocarbons presents a
great challenge. The challenge lies in constructing appropriate models of the
subsurface to extract as many properties of the subsurface rocks as possible and then
solving the associated forward modeling problem followed by design of suitable
inversion methods to extract the desired information. Simple models do not involve
very complex mathematics but yield only limited information about the subsurface.
The degree of mathematical sophistication increases with more realistic models of
subsurface rocks.
Simple models of subsurface assume rocks to be homogeneous, isotropic and
perfectly elastic. Rocks actually encountered in the subsurface do not exhibit any of
these ideal characteristics. Rocks consist of a number of minerals with varying
properties and grain sizes leading to point to point variation of their physical
properties thus exhibiting a high degree of inhomogeneity.
Even if rocks are regarded as homogeneous on a large scale, they may exhibit
directional dependence of their physical properties. It is known that a stack of thin
homogeneous and isotropic layers can be replaced with a homogeneous but
anisotropic medium in which seismic wave velocities differ in the vertical and
horizontal directions. Another situation that leads to anisotropy is the existence of
The Indelibility Of The Past In The Mayor Of
Casterbridge...
In the Mayor of Casterbridge, Thomas Hardy shows how one man s mistakes can
impact the rest of his life. The two themes I found most significant in The Mayor
of Casterbridge are honesty and the indelibility of the past. In order to fully study
these themes and their effects on our protagonist s life, we must start where his
story begins. Mr. Henchard, our story s namesake, has committed a grievous sin by
drunkenly auctioning off his wife and child. This is not the first time he has made
an abusive action against Susan, as evidenced by her line, I ve lived with thee a
couple of years and had nothing but temper! (Hardy 13). Evidently their
relationship is incredibly flawed if Michael could not put to rest his alcoholism and
anger issues for the sake of his wife and child. He takes action against his alcohol
issues by vowing never to touch strong liquor for the next twenty years. However, it
is too late for his marriageand the damage has already been done. The place of
women in Henchard s life ties deeply into the indelibility of the past. When we meet
him again, he has not only become the most successful hay trusser in the town, but
has also become the mayor. Henchard s reformed behavior shows results, but it isn t
enough to break him from his curse of bad interpersonal relationships. For one thing,
he has made commitments to another woman who caught feelings for him and got in
trouble for messing with him, and he felt he owed her something. While this story
Impact Of Trade On Intra Trade Industry
In the globalization era nowadays, trading has become an important activity across
all regions. Trading is known as an exchange of good and services from country to
another country. Commonly, trading is necessary due to the limited resources are
scattered unfairly between other regions and some countries are better producing
products than other (Lipsey R., 1960). However, trading not solely occur to the
scarce resources but also happens to other country that can specialize in similar
goods and services. For instance, Malaysia and Thailand are better in producing rice
but yet they do trading of rice with one another. This trade action is known as intra
industry trade. (Krugman P.,1991) stated that intra industry trade is a two way trade
in similar goods or in other words known as an exchange of similar goods between
countries in same industry. It is important for intra industry trade to grow in the
current emerging market since there trading has become beneficial activity. Intra
trade industry consists of homogeneous products and heterogeneous products. It is
vital to acknowledge why economists have turned their attention to intra industry
trade. Standard trade theory was introduced and founded by David Ricardo in the
period of 1817 when he formulated what we now call the theory of comparative
advantage. Comparative advantage deals with all sorts of goods and services that are
caused by the differences among countries. Ricardo highlighted the key ingredient of
the theory of
The Pros And Cons Of Costa Rica
10. Conclusions Since 1985 and after a severe economic crisis Costa Rica has been
implemented a trade liberalization and a foreign investment attraction policy as a
core development program. With a FTA with the United States, the country
consolidated a long relationship with its largest trading partner. Under the Caribbean
Basin Initiative all countries of Central America enjoyed preferential treatment for
almost all its exports. However, the unilateral nature of the CBI had weaknesses and
uncertainties that jeopardized growth and thousands of jobs. This issue gained
recognition and moved up to the political agenda of the region. Consequently, Costa
Rica had to support the Treaty to avoid the loss of its competitive edge in the
continent.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
CAFTA had the support of the Government, mass media and most part of the
productive sector, while the opposition encompassed labour unions, cooperatives,
students and other social groups without big economic resources. Although one week
before the referendum, final polls predicted a victory for the NO Group , one day
before the election a statement of the White House rejecting a renegotiation in case of
a disapproval of the Treaty changed the course of action. In October 2007, Costa Rica
narrowly approved the agreement (51.6% in favor and 48.4% against), enabling its
entry into force at the beginning of 2009. During 2008 the Government focused its
attention on reaffirming their obligations under the Agreement with the approval of a
body of laws included in the Implementation Agenda. For this reason, complementary
reforms needed to take advantage of the benefits of CAFTA and to reduce its
disadvantages were moved into the background. Three funds from international
organizations were insufficient on the promotion of projects to support the local
production, while compensation policies to mitigate the negative distributive effects

Supply Chain Management within the Healthcare Sector
Supply chain management
With the aging of the population and the increasing developments of technology,
healthcare facilities are more and more pressured to provide high quality medical
services. This increasing stress associated with the changing needs of the population
forces the healthcare providers to also develop and to adjust their operations.
Specifically, they are informally required to place an increased emphasis on the
administrative and business side of their operations. In this specific order of ideas,
the role of supply chain management increases (Uzsoy, 2005).
In a traditional setting, supply chain management would integrate the totality of
operations and processes which ensure that the product is created and delivered to the
end consumer (Handfield, 2011). Within the setting of healthcare provision, the
supply chain management would refer to the totality of the operations which ensure
that the medical act is created and delivered to the patient; this medical act includes
both the services of the medical teams, as well as the medical products required, such
as medical equipments, beds, MRI machines, or medicines.
At a primary level, the supply chain would be formed from the primary
manufacturers, followed by the secondary manufacturers, the distribution centers and
the wholesalers. From the wholesalers, the medical equipments and pharmaceuticals
would be transmitted to hospitals and clinics. This supply chain management in the
healthcare industry is
Summary Of Captivity And Restoration Of Mary
Rowlandson
In A Narrative of Captivity and Restoration of Mary Rowlandson, Mary Rowlandson
is forced out of her home along with her children by the Native American people.
The relationship between the Native American people and Mary Rowlandson begins
in a very harsh way as they attack the Garrison, and capture her. Native Americans and
colonial Americans have always hated each other the Natives wanting the white men
to leave their land, and the colonial American believing that it is their right to have
this land. During the writing of Rowlandson, she shows several examples of the
Native Americans showing her sympathy and helping her even though she is
captured by them. Mary Rowlandsonmentions on several occasions how the Native
American s are pagans as if their religion is below her own, this also causes serval
problems between the Natives and Mary Rowlandson.... Show more content on

In sixteenth and seventeenth century England, there were three general
classifications of righteous violence: state sanctioned punishment or military action,
actions taken in defense of community standards...and violence in the name of
religion (Perreault). The colonial people and the settlers justify their murder of the
Native people by saying that it is in the name of Christianity. During Rowlandson s
captivity she mentions on several occasions her hatred for the native people. From
all which places they shot against the house, so that the bullets seemed to fly like
hail; and quickly they wounded one man among us, then another, and then a third
(Rowlandson). They had destroyed her home and killed and wounded many people
around her, including herself and her small child whom she was holding in her arms.
Now away we must go with those barbarous creatures, with our bodies wounded and
bleeding, and our hearts no less than our bodies
Essay on The Energy Star Home
The Energy Star Home
The Energy Star label is awarded to products that promote energy efficiency. New
homes have been included in the Energy Star Program. Energy Star products must be
at least 30% more energy efficient than current regulations demand. The same energy
requirements apply to the Energy Star Home as well. Such areas on a home that are
targeted for improvement include: framing, ducts, windows, insulation, and HVAC.
Although, the energy star program includes appliances and electronics, when
applying the program to a home, only structural improvements are taken into
consideration. It is possible for a home to receive an Energy Star Label but at the
same time be filled with non energy star appliances. Older homes can ... Show more

New energy star homes will have a label on the breaker box stating that the home
has undergone a third party evaluation. This evaluation ensures that the home
either meets or exceeds energy star requirements. The Home Energy Rating
System, or HERS, scoring is how a home is ranked based on energy efficiency. The
HERS works on a 100 point system, with a score of 80 for a house that meets the
minimum requirements of the Model Energy Code. Each point on the HERS scale
corresponds to a 5% increase in efficiency meaning that a minimum score of 86 is
needed for a home to receive an energy star label.
There is another possibility for builders known as the Builder Option Packages, or
BOPs. For the purpose of BOPs, the US has been divided into 19 climate zones.
Each climate zone has construction specifications that include performance levels for
the thermal envelope, insulation, windows, orientation, HVAC systems, and water
heating efficiency. A home built to BOP specs is not rated by the HERS system but
still is subject to third party verification. BOP homes either pass or fail as energy star
homes.
The first consideration when building an energy efficient house is tight construction.
There are hundreds of holes that penetrate the outside of a house resulting from
framing and holes drilled for wiring, plumbing, and ducts. By framing the house more
carefully and tightly, there will be fewer
Compare And Contrast The Constitutional Requirements
The Constitution Requirements
Define the Articles of Confederation and why the Constitution was needed
The agreement made by the original 13 states in 1777 establishing a confederacy to
be know as the United Stated of America; replaced by the Constitution of 1788.
There have some reasons to create this Constitution.
To replace the Articles of Confederation, which granted too little power to the federal
government. Like: could not raise money for taxing; no control the foreign
commerce; it could pass laws but can t force the states to follow them.
The history of the Constitutional Convention
James Madison and Edmund Randolph, who were the two Virginia delegates who
had anticipated this possibility, arrived at the Convention with the rough ... Show

So, the government need to separate the powers to the three parts: legislative (the
people who create the laws), executive (the people who enact the laws), and judicial
powers of government (the people who judge the laws).
Federation is one of the more ingenious creations to grow out of the Constitutional
Convention. The federal system established by the Constitution was unique in that it
created a governmental system in which the real powers of the political system were
truly divided between the centralized and decentralized units of government. (
Weatherman, Donald V. U.S. Constitution. Salem Press Encyclopedia (2015) ) It like
the separation of powers, was built in to the constitutional system as a check on
government powers.
Republicanism is written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay in
1787 to 1788. The first advantage of republicanism is that governmental authority is
delegated to a small group of citizens (By learning the interests and needs of a
diverse number of groups, representatives approach governmental decision making
with a broader perspective). The second is that republican governments can cover a
much larger geographical area than a direct democracy can (This diversity decreases
the likelihood that a single interest will constitute a majority on any given
Fear Of Death In Poe s Premature Burial
The party in the Masque of the Red Death can be seen as a result of Prince
Prospero s fear of premature death since his group is locked away in a fantastically
decorated abbey, hiding from the disease festering around them in comfort and
security (Poe 319). To be sure, the Prince has good reason to hide, the plague
results in agonizing death for all who contract it (Poe 319). More likely is that
Prospero s motives for his actions have nothing to do with fear of death, and the
disease outside the abbey is just a reason for the Prince to have a party. After all, he
does not sound like someone in fear of death, premature or otherwise; his mood is
described as happy and dauntless and sagacious (Poe 319), not at all fearful. Upon
meeting the Red... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because his condition resembles death so closely, Poe is faced with the very real
possibility that he will be buried alive. He describes being buried alive as a fairly
common occurrence, (Poe 309 310), strengthening the argument that his actions
are a result of true fear of death. How the two characters end up is important
because it allows some insight into how Poe intended to portray the motivations
that lead each character to the situations they found themselves in. Prospero ends
up stabbed in front of all his friends by his own dagger (Poe 322). While Poe
overcomes his fear when he awakens thinking he has been buried alive, resulting
in him living a fuller life (Poe 318). Ralph Waldo Emerson was a Transcendentalist
author, so he explored concepts beyond the scope of science. That is to say, non
empirical concepts that cannot be known through observation, the senses, or
experience, without pattern. The concept of beauty is non empirical because it
cannot be fully understood by observation. While a man can see that a rose is
beautiful, or feel the beauty in the weight and smoothness of a strand of pearls, he
can never know that a thing is beautiful by seeing or touching it. This is why
Emerson describes beauty as an eternal fugitive (75) in Ode to Beauty. Emerson s
philosophy can be seen as a reaction to the limitations of the Rational Movement, who
rejected non empirical
The Squire In The Canterbury Tales Essay
The Squire is best described as a player with the ladies. The prologue says So hot he
loved that, while night told her tale, he slept no more than does a nightingale (4). In
Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, the Squire is the Knight s son but it is clear they want
different things. The Knight wants his son, the Squire, to be a brave and honorable
knight serving the community, but the Squire wants to play his flute and romance
women. The flirty, outgoing Squire was a Knight in training. His father, the Knight,
pressures the Squire to become this extraordinary knight who will save many lives.
The Squire was described as a very proficient horseman with some skills that would
help him to be a Knight, but also as a young man with blonde curly... Show more

Besides the point that the Squire was a flirtatious, young man he was an
astonishing candidate for becoming the next Knight, following in his father s
footsteps. The squire shows humbleness and politeness, when he fights alongside
with his father he is very talented and trained well. Courteous he, and humble,
willing and able (4).awk The Squire also professes his desire to be a poet and
profess his love for music and the arts. The squire has grown up being a noble
because of his father s status. This could have verb tenseshaped the Squire into
putting himself before others and doing certain things to impress the ladies.
Conclusion sentence. Pinked out he was, as if he were a mead, All full of fresh
cut flowers white and red (3). This interprets the Squire as a young and foolish boy.
Chaucer also states that the squire may not be the most trustworthy man because
he fights for approval of women and not for the sake of the people. With looks well
curled, as if they d laid in press (3). Chaucer shows us a different side than most
Squires in the Middles Ages. Chaucer shows us the side of the squire s sexuality and
song and poem writing. Singing he was, or fluting, all the day (3). Chaucer thinks
that the Squire should not be on the battlefield if he believes that winning women and
writing love poems was a priority over helping his community.
The squire is a man of his word and does most things to get attention and the

Importance Of Sexist Language
Did you know that using sexist language is considered violence? Although some
sexist expressions appear to be harmless, they have become a major problem in our
society for many years. Sexist language is the language used in favor of one sex
while the other sex is treated in a discriminatory manner. (Lei, 2006) In most cases,
sexist language reinforces the idea of the superiority of men over women in many
aspects of life. Within the English language, it is very common to find sexist
language in the use of nouns, pronouns, sayings, roles, etc. Therefore, it is
important to know more detailed these sexist expressions, their use and
consequences in the society that we live. Over the years it has been seen that sexist
language lower women by using male pronouns like he, his, and him instantly in
contexts where the sex of the person is not defined. These pronouns tend to be
generalized when talking about an uncertain group of people or any person. For
example, Each student must go to his class to meet his new teacher , Each one
should write his own fantasy story , The boss did not attend the meeting, he is very
busy. In the same way, there are many professions that are male oriented because they
contain the suffix man . For instance, foreman , congressman , councilman , freshman
, chairman etc. (Lei, 2006)However, these terms are used for women and men
commonly. Another way in which sexist language discriminates women is in the use
of affixes. This means that to form
Lord of the Flies Compared to Animal Farm Essay
Dictators often use fear as a control tactic in their countries as they want to make
sure they have total power over their people. Fear is defined as an unpleasant and
often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger, often causing
a person to act according to what is necessary for survival. Although fear can be
unpleasant, many people like it in different ways; some like the suspense that scary
movies bring, while others like the thrill that is created when cliff jumping. George
Orwell s allegory Animal Farm and William Golding s novel Lord of the Flies,
exemplifies societies who are controlled by authority figures during the war. Jack, a
narcissist dictator takes over Ralph s democratic power over the society and... Show

Napoleon uses that strategy because animals are scared and their ignorance makes
them believe that if they work harder and do what Napoleon says, they will have a
better chance of surviving. Jack s tribe also does everything he says because they
are scared to physically get hurt or killed. Therefore both leaders benefit from this
physical fear that both societies experience. Both leaders use supernatural things
and outside influences to establish fear over their society. Jack uses constantly the
beast to his own advantage. He often makes allusion of it to scare his tribe, as it is
shown when he says the beast might try to come in (Golding 177) to his guards.
This shows that he is definitely afraid of the beast even though he tries to reassure
his tribe to not be afraid, which perfectly links with his previous words of this head
is for the beast. It s a gift (Golding 151) which clearly proves his fear of the beast,
while at the same time using that as a way to persuade his tribe that they are safe
with him as long as they do what he says. Napoleon uses lies about outside enemies
to his own advantage. Napoleon claims that Snowball is a traitor and was secretly
frequenting the farm by night (Orwell 52) causing panic in the animals. Therefore

American Independence Day
An American is someone who is part of a culture of individuals, who sought to
achieve greatness without any control over them. A priority of immigrant
ancestors, that has been passed down to form an ideology of freedom and peace.
Americans are a people of fight and determination. The nation that was solidly built
on morals that have been stuck to and believed in for centuries. Freedom is a
precious and an enjoyed idea of all Americans. Every American descended from
immigrants who fled their oppressed and impoverished country to seek equality and
opportunity. Independence day is celebrated on July fourth in honor of those who
fought and secured our nation s sovereignty. Why is it celebrated on this day? It goes
back to 1776 when the revolutionary
Achieving and Maintaining Invididual Excellence

Achieving and Maintaining Individual Excellence Individual excellence is pushing
yourself to surpass other s expectations and excel in everything you do. Individual
traits, ethics, values, experiences, and individual performance help develop and
define a person s individual excellence on a personal and professional level.
Individual excellence will lead a person to be a better leader, manager, supervisor,

As a human service manager, I must learn to take feedback, both negative and
positive, and learn from every experience to make me a better employee and future
manager.
Supervision is needed to guide employees, motivate them, and reward them to
achieve program effectiveness. My strengths are my ability to work alone, to
supervise, motivate, and recognize other people s achievements. My restraining
force is that I have very little experience supervising individuals and I am usually a
follower rather than a leader. I will gain the confidence needed to take on the roles
and responsibilities of any position or challenge that I am faced with.
Financial management is referred to successfully managing finances by the human
service manager. My personal drive is the success I have at managing my own
finances, because I have no experience managing finances for large organizations. I
am currently debt free and feel very proud that as a mother of two I can handle
finances very well even money is tight. My restraining factors is that I am not a big
saver and can work on creating a budget or savings plan for the organizations future
and long term goals. According to Lewis (2007) a well designed information systems
can enhance an organization s effectiveness and responsiveness and raise an

frequency and phase relationships would change in response to a sudden visual
stimulus. As seen on Chart Trace 2, the duration of the wingbeat cycle for both the

Violence has been around us our whole lives and is something that will never come to a stop. Violence will continue through the rest of our lives and the lives to come in the future if someone doesn t step up and try to take a stand. Society s leading problem is violence and can only be helped through the kind of leadership that demonstrates Trust and Integrity, Confidence, and a good communication. First, trust and integrity are one of my three most important qualities that every leader needs to have if they are gonna try to stop violence within our society. Trust and integrity is a key quality on how we can try to stop the problem of violence in our society. Talking about integrity, Oprah Winfrey said: Real integrity is doing the right, knowing that nobody s going to know whether you did it or not. Generally, one will only care about this crisis when the price of gas changes. The energy crisis, however, is a prominent issue as it is ongoing and getting worse, despite many efforts (Rinkesh). The world s natural resources, such as oil, coal, and natural gas, cannot supply the world s increasing demand. The amount of crude oil available is only 2 percent higher than the demand for it (Muise). Humans all around the world will defeat this problem by creating and providing their own energy for themselves. They will do this by riding a bike, that will be connected to a power bank, in one s own house. Every day, before and after work, people will ride a bike. The power bank will be linked to household appliances such as the refrigerators TVs, and heating systems. The longer the person rides it, then the more electricity they get for their house. The average hour riding a bike will provide 6 hours of electricity. Of course, this is also dependent on how many electricity run products are in one s home If the person has more electrical items, then they will need to ride for longer amounts of time because the energy will be traveling to copious places. Death Valley National Park is in the U.S. states of California and Nevada. It contains many mysteries, involving one of nature s strangest phenomenon where rocks seem to move all around on their own. In the remote, almost totally dry lakebed called Racetrack Playa, some of the rocks move across the desert when people aren t watching. What makes the rocks move? Although, nobody has seen the rocks in motion, the leading theory is wind and ice. The Racetrack is a scenic dry lake with sailing stones crossing it. It is located on the northwestern side of Death Valley, in Death Valley National Park, California, U.S. The playa is flat surface, dry without any plants and it doesn t rain that much. Historically, the Grauballe Man is considered to be one of the most well preserved body of all time. It was discovered in the peat bogs in Jutland, Denmark. The body showed signs of violence indicating that the man was murdered rather than dying of natural causes. Heaney s poem indicates his preoccupation with the body because it evokes him of the atrocities that has happened during The Trouble. Heaney states that, hung in the scales with beauty and atrocity: with the Dying Gaul too strictly compassed. Dying Gaul is a Hellenistic sculpture that realistically depicts the pain and suffering experienced by a dying man, the root of the reference is that the pose of the sculpture reminiscences the death position of the bog man. Heaney uses the allusion of Dying Gaul in order to make the reader develop the idea of the unification of artifice and nature, which reveals the unique characteristics of human beings. Additionally, the Grauballe Man itself, is also an allusion. The allusion of the Grauballe Man exemplifies the brutal history that has happened in the North. The Grauballe Man personifies the sacrifices for religious excursions in Northern Ireland during The Troubles. • 13. Sully Movie Analysis When the movie Sully first came out, it received a wide range of mixed reviews from both critics and normal movie goers alike. Although everyone is entitled to their own opinion, not everyone agrees with what other people think. Because Sully is a movie that is based on a true real life event, society has mixed reviews about how the movie was played out because it was based on a real event. Three movie critics gave their thoughts on the movie and each one has different views then the other reviewer does on the producer of the movie Clint Eastwood, the captain, Sully, National Transportation Safety Board, and the co pilot, Jeffrey Skiles, whom will all be seen in this essay. Sully will go down in history as the movie that had both a wide range of reviews and also told the story of a government agency trying to put the blame on a worldwide hero. Because Sully is based off an event that involves an airplane, the safety personnel had to get involved to investigate the cause if the accident. Due to the fact that the National Transportation Safety Board is made up of many highly intelligent people, there was bound to give way to issues that arrived between the captain who landed the plane, Captain Sully, and the National Transportation Safety Administration know as NTSB for short. The NTSB was in charge of investigating the event because it deals with transportation. Matthew Lickona and Scott Marks are both movie critics who work for the San Diego Reader. Both authors
  • 14. Romeo and Juliet, Tragedy or Romance Romeo and Juliet, Tragedy or Romance? What determines what a true love story is? Many events in Romeo and Juliet make the audience question whether or not they are truly in love or are just blinded by a false or not true version of a not so deep feeling. Romeo and Juliet is a famous love story but it stands out compared to other lovestories. Romeo and Juliet continue to be a true love story to this day. They are married at a young age and differentiate from other love stories, it s still considered to be true love, though some aspects of the novel are considered to be more tragic than romantic. Most people in this world will do just about anything for true love and, given the chance; will go to major lengths to prove that they are in love, even getting married at a very young age. To begin with, most people will do anything for true love. According to Definition of Love, Simple infatuation is often called a crush or puppy love . (Definition of Love, par. 1). This means that some people are only in love for a small time or not in love very much. People like a teacher, and uncle or aunt, a friend or family [or] an actor or actress (Definitions of Love, par. 1) are examples of people we love but not very strong or for a very long time. Simple infatuation is not true love. It is but a sliver of what true love really feels like a silly dream that we have. Romeo and Juliet s love was so strong that nothing would get in the way of their marriage, not even their age. Many
  • 15. Reflection About Divorce Divorce is difficult on the children involved. When my parents finalized their divorce, it was decided that for the majority of the summer we would stay with our mother. The divorce occurred when my brothers and I were very young. My mother lived in a small, unremarkable town named Evart that is north of Lansing. Our grandmother lived in the outskirts of nearby Reed City. We spent most of our time during the summer at her cramped little trailer. The trailer she lived in was on a decently sized plot of land. Her home was situated on a hill that leveled out quickly as the path led to the road. The yard was expansive with hard brown grass covering a small portion with dirt covering the rest. On one side of the trailer was a large red barn with chipped paint. On the other side was an old brown camper that held two beds and an old television with an antenna resting on the top. There was no backyard as the trailer was a few feet from a wooden fence that had barbed wire across the top to stop the neighbor s horses from entering the property. The camper is where my brother and I slept while with my grandmother. The property where my brother Sabastian and I stayed at shaped some of the ways my personality developed. When our mother left us at my grandmother s she would take my oldest brother Andrew with her, leaving my older brother Sabastian and I with our grandma. We were mostly independent; we were not allowed in the house so we roamed the property playing with the dogs

Taking time to understand why certain things happen for a reason, and gradually becoming aware of what people choose to believe in shaped my personal views on religionand the beliefs of unseen forces today. Based on Marvin Harris, the world may never have a solid answer as to why and how cultures decided to establish religious beliefs as well as superstition. As for the Hmong culture, however, there is a sign of major controversy with beliefs in religion and superstition. The practices of Eastern and Western medicine will meet in the middle despite culture clashes. The reasons behind why people believe in religion as well as how religious culture has evolved can be seen in Marvin Harris article, Why We Became Religious . Harris, an anthropologist, defines the differences between spiritual beliefs and superstition. People perceive the importance of the role of spirituality as well as the unseen. Harris exemplifies this point with the term mana , which means magical power in the Melanesian language. This is mirrored across the capitalist world, but is perhaps most evident in the United States where the reduction in the flow of federal redistributions and local tax revenues after 1972 led to this revival in civic boosterism and entrepreneurialism (Harvey, 1989). It certainly has far reaching consequences in that future growth prospects may all be about playing the capitalist game , the paving to a zero sum development. To that, Harvey asserted that urban entrepreneurialism (1) is based on public private partnership so that local boosterism attracts external sources of funding, direct investments, and employment sources, (2) is speculative in general and thus compounded with risks and difficulties that are absorbed by the local public sector, and (3) places emphasis on political economy rather than economic projects that improve living and working conditions. The extension is a prime example of this because it was intended to bring business and entertainment to the Hudson Yards neighborhood, and it did many businesses in the area have seen increased profits since the project s construction leading to a development boom in its vicinity. However, it faced its own risks and difficulties from the start, seeing that it was supposed to be funded by an innovative tax incremental financing that issued city bonds for the construction to be repaid by future tax revenue from developers (Jaffe,

Just by looking at a statue of the Buddha from Gandhara and a roman statue of an important figure, it looks like they could be from the same place. However, it was the way the silk road allowed cultures to interact and influence each other that caused this connection. As social media is rising, adults and teenagers are joining social outlets such as Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram. Even though social media is a big impact in today s society it could do more harm than good. Social media can cause harm because of isolation, bullying, and it could be dangerous. One reason for my belief is that social media can cause isolation. Because of social media individuals are connected by texting, calling on the phone, or video chatting but this replaces real interactions and can make an individual feel left out. A study of 1,787 participants expressed their feelings as I feel that people are around me but not with me. Individuals also expresses, I feel that people barely know me (Willingham). Also, social media has caused a decline in social events. Miller McPherson, Lynn Smith Lovin and Mathew Brashear s who are all sociologist s comments They depicted the rise of internet and mobile phones as one of the major trends that pulls people away from traditional social settings, neighborhoods, voluntary associations, and public spaces that have been associated with large and diverse core networks (Hampton). Even though social media is a significant part of communication at a certain point it could make an individual isolate themselves and from their surroundings. Another reason for my belief is that social media can cause bullying. Bullying

Management Theories During The Industrial Revolution During the industrial revolution, a number of management theories were introduced which have helped contribute to our understanding of the structure of management in the current business setting. These many different theories have assisted managers in conceptualising new ways of the organisation and managementof their workplace. Several theories have influenced and contributed to today s modern management theories, these include the Scientific Management Theory, which was introduced by Frederick Taylor and the Human Relations Movement developed by Elton Mayo and his work on the Hawthorne studies. Both of these theories tried to introduce the best way possible to achieve maximum productivity within the work place. This essay will discuss the contributions of these theories in the development of the modern management theory, and in particular, how these past theories have contributed to the development of the contingency theory, and two separate approaches to modern management, in the quantitative and behavioural approach. Scientific management Fredrick Taylor Several modern management theories have been shown to have their roots stemming from the ideologies of the scientific management theory. The basic principles of scientific management include standardised work activity based on measurement and formulae, workers are matched to tasks, coordination of activities in order to execute a number of related tasks and separation of planning and execution with the aim of maximum output. (4) The scientific management theory explores the idea that managers should manage and the workers should work. The industrial revolution era brought the need to bring about an increase in the effective rate of output and productivity and that led to the introduction of the scientific management theory by Frederick W. Taylor. Taylor was an engineer interested in efficiencies through work measurement and coordination of tasks and focused on the problems of dividing up labour tasks. He believed that the most efficient methods for completing a task and for the selection, development and motivation of employees could be scientifically determined, Taylor concluded that there was one best way to achieve things (4). People who are part of the dominant group live with dominant messages may not be aware that they are hegemonic reinforcements. Like with Banksy s artwork messages can be put into the public to inform them of different choices. Feminisim is an example of a counter hegemonic message that has changed peoples perceptions. Another critique of this theory is that hegemony is apparently completely bad and desperately needs to change. If it were so bad, I believe people would have no problem dismantling it. If rebellion didn t exist, especially in art, what would happen? Would culture decay? Cultural jamming seems to take concepts from Gramsci s ideas because it uses counter hegemony to fight against capitalist hegemony and disrupt normal values. Ironically his fame and the worth of his art seems to dominate the messages which are more important in front of it. Counter hegemony art in a capitalist society? Without

At first, the Marshall Plan seemed to be a success, with economic aid worth $17 billion being made available to Europe and ensuring the protection of democratic governments in Turkey and Greece. As king, Henry needed to put on a very masculine, tough, and stern image to protect his people, but behind the scenes, he was a hopeless romantic searching for someone to rule with. He hides his soft side from everyone in the kingdom, which the movie accurately shows. At first, the movie portrays Henry in a negative light. He seems very evil: killing one wife and immediately marrying the next. He is short with his courts people and comes off profoundly uncultured. In fact, for some the reality is an actual decline in the vital areas of health, education and opportunity. Although, the trends in infections, survival at birth and in infancy, accidents and deaths in the primary school years, death rates from severe diseases such as cancers, and overall life expectancy have all improved. However, the levels of many problems affecting children and young people are worryingly high and appear to be increasing. Therefore, while death rates have fallen, proportions of children and youth with complex diseases such as asthma, diabetes, overweight and obesity, intellectual disabilities and particularly psychological problems such as depression, suicide and eating disorders have increased. Similar is the trend in premature births and physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy. Such concerns about children and young people in the lucky country were raised by the Australian of the Year 2003, Fiona Stanley and inspired her to write the book, Children of the Lucky Country? • 40. Interpretation Of Seismic Data Recorded By Earthquake... CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1Motivation Interpretation of seismic data recorded by earthquake seismographs and that obtained in seismic reflection surveys conducted in the search for hydrocarbons presents a great challenge. The challenge lies in constructing appropriate models of the subsurface to extract as many properties of the subsurface rocks as possible and then solving the associated forward modeling problem followed by design of suitable inversion methods to extract the desired information. Simple models do not involve very complex mathematics but yield only limited information about the subsurface. The degree of mathematical sophistication increases with more realistic models of subsurface rocks. Simple models of subsurface assume rocks to be homogeneous, isotropic and perfectly elastic. Rocks actually encountered in the subsurface do not exhibit any of these ideal characteristics. Rocks consist of a number of minerals with varying properties and grain sizes leading to point to point variation of their physical properties thus exhibiting a high degree of inhomogeneity. Even if rocks are regarded as homogeneous on a large scale, they may exhibit directional dependence of their physical properties. It is known that a stack of thin homogeneous and isotropic layers can be replaced with a homogeneous but anisotropic medium in which seismic wave velocities differ in the vertical and horizontal directions. Another situation that leads to anisotropy is the existence of

The two themes I found most significant in The Mayor of Casterbridge are honesty and the indelibility of the past. In order to fully study these themes and their effects on our protagonist s life, we must start where his story begins. Mr. Henchard, our story s namesake, has committed a grievous sin by drunkenly auctioning off his wife and child. This is not the first time he has made an abusive action against Susan, as evidenced by her line, I ve lived with thee a couple of years and had nothing but temper! (Hardy 13). Evidently their relationship is incredibly flawed if Michael could not put to rest his alcoholism and anger issues for the sake of his wife and child. He takes action against his alcohol issues by vowing never to touch strong liquor for the next twenty years. However, it is too late for his marriageand the damage has already been done. The place of women in Henchard s life ties deeply into the indelibility of the past. When we meet him again, he has not only become the most successful hay trusser in the town, but has also become the mayor. Henchard s reformed behavior shows results, but it isn t enough to break him from his curse of bad interpersonal relationships. For one thing, he has made commitments to another woman who caught feelings for him and got in trouble for messing with him, and he felt he owed her something. While this story

Trading is known as an exchange of good and services from country to another country. Commonly, trading is necessary due to the limited resources are scattered unfairly between other regions and some countries are better producing products than other (Lipsey R., 1960). However, trading not solely occur to the scarce resources but also happens to other country that can specialize in similar goods and services. For instance, Malaysia and Thailand are better in producing rice but yet they do trading of rice with one another. This trade action is known as intra industry trade. (Krugman P.,1991) stated that intra industry trade is a two way trade in similar goods or in other words known as an exchange of similar goods between countries in same industry. It is important for intra industry trade to grow in the current emerging market since there trading has become beneficial activity. Intra trade industry consists of homogeneous products and heterogeneous products. It is vital to acknowledge why economists have turned their attention to intra industry trade. Standard trade theory was introduced and founded by David Ricardo in the period of 1817 when he formulated what we now call the theory of comparative advantage. Comparative advantage deals with all sorts of goods and services that are caused by the differences among countries. Ricardo highlighted the key ingredient of the theory of

Supply Chain Management within the Healthcare Sector Supply chain management With the aging of the population and the increasing developments of technology, healthcare facilities are more and more pressured to provide high quality medical services. This increasing stress associated with the changing needs of the population forces the healthcare providers to also develop and to adjust their operations. Specifically, they are informally required to place an increased emphasis on the administrative and business side of their operations. In this specific order of ideas, the role of supply chain management increases (Uzsoy, 2005). In a traditional setting, supply chain management would integrate the totality of operations and processes which ensure that the product is created and delivered to the end consumer (Handfield, 2011). Within the setting of healthcare provision, the supply chain management would refer to the totality of the operations which ensure that the medical act is created and delivered to the patient; this medical act includes both the services of the medical teams, as well as the medical products required, such as medical equipments, beds, MRI machines, or medicines. At a primary level, the supply chain would be formed from the primary manufacturers, followed by the secondary manufacturers, the distribution centers and the wholesalers. From the wholesalers, the medical equipments and pharmaceuticals would be transmitted to hospitals and clinics. This supply chain management in the healthcare industry is

New energy star homes will have a label on the breaker box stating that the home has undergone a third party evaluation. This evaluation ensures that the home either meets or exceeds energy star requirements. The Home Energy Rating System, or HERS, scoring is how a home is ranked based on energy efficiency. The HERS works on a 100 point system, with a score of 80 for a house that meets the minimum requirements of the Model Energy Code. Each point on the HERS scale corresponds to a 5% increase in efficiency meaning that a minimum score of 86 is needed for a home to receive an energy star label. There is another possibility for builders known as the Builder Option Packages, or BOPs. For the purpose of BOPs, the US has been divided into 19 climate zones. To be sure, the Prince has good reason to hide, the plague results in agonizing death for all who contract it (Poe 319). More likely is that Prospero s motives for his actions have nothing to do with fear of death, and the disease outside the abbey is just a reason for the Prince to have a party. The concept of beauty is non empirical because it cannot be fully understood by observation. Although some sexist expressions appear to be harmless, they have become a major problem in our society for many years. Sexist language is the language used in favor of one sex while the other sex is treated in a discriminatory manner. (Lei, 2006) In most cases, sexist language reinforces the idea of the superiority of men over women in many aspects of life. Within the English language, it is very common to find sexist language in the use of nouns, pronouns, sayings, roles, etc. Therefore, it is important to know more detailed these sexist expressions, their use and consequences in the society that we live. Over the years it has been seen that sexist language lower women by using male pronouns like he, his, and him instantly in contexts where the sex of the person is not defined. These pronouns tend to be generalized when talking about an uncertain group of people or any person. We were only able to retrieve data from the left forewings with the visual stimulus. The change in duration of the wingbeat cycle for the left forewing was not as significant as the hindwings. The duration of the left forewing changed from 49.77 ms to approximately 49.95 ms. If comparing only the wingbeat
