Introduction Of The Hershey Company Essay
Kyandra Byars December 3, 2016, Introduction to Business The Hershey Company Introduction The
Hershey Company produces the best chocolate according to a survey taken among my coworkers.
This company is well known for their Hershey s Kisses, Kit Kat, Whopper s, Reese s Peanut Butter
Cups and much more! Personally Kit Kat is my favorite. Hershey s is one chocolate that I can eat and
it changes my whole mood. Their mission statement is, Bringing sweet moments of Hershey
happiness to the world every day. 1 Hershey s focuses on love, and not only chocolate. History of the
Company 1894 is when it all started. This is when Milton Hershey had just established the company.
He was producing sweet chocolate as a coating for his caramels. 1894 was a great year for him
because this is also when he started developing his own formula for milk chocolate. In 1907, the
company began producing individually hand wrapped conical milk chocolate candies named Hershey
s Kisses Chocolate. 1921 is when machine wrapping was introduced. In 1963, The H.B. Reese Candy
Company was purchased by the Hershey Chocolate Corporation. In Between the years of 1925 and
1939, Mr. Good bar, Hershey s Syrup, Crackle Bar, and Hershey s Miniatures were introduced. In
1945 Hershey s ran a good competition against a nutritional bar called Field Ration D. Sadly this was
also the year that Milton Hershey passed away. Until this very day, a lot of different and awesome
tasting chocolates were

The Performance Based Budgeting And The Approach Of...
Hoover Performance Budgeting
Performance based budgeting refers to the approach of allocating funds that link measured results with
policy decisions. It focuses on results and outcomes of programs rather than on the cost of inputs. It
facilitates greater and more scientific accountability for outcomes. Fund allocation is prioritised based
on a program s ability to achieve goals.
Legislative Analyst s Office [1] defines performance based budget as:
... the allocation of resource based on an expectation of performance levels, where performance is
measured in specific, meaningful terms. It differs from the traditional approach to budgeting in that it
focusses on outcomes rather than on inputs or processes. [1]
For instance, providing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Hoover Commission made the following observations for performance budgeting while
recommending overhaul of the nation s budget process:
Under performance budgeting, government departments and agencies would prepare budgets
according to their major functions, activities and projects [8] focusing on the impact of the activity or
service instead of things to be acquired [8]
These budget reforms aimed to provide holistic information about programs and activities based on
measurement of ultimate impact of outcomes through parameters that measured effectiveness and
efficiency of operations. Thus the question of optimal utilization of resources and whether the
government is allocating them accordingly was to be addressed by this reform.
The Commission recommendations on performance budgeting requirements (HPB) were implemented
through two legislations: The National Security Act Amendments (1949) and the Budgeting and
Accounting Procedures Act (BAPA), 1950 that prescribed a less prescriptive definition of performance
budgeting that instituted country wide adoption of this budget technique.
Elements of Hover Performance Budgeting (HPB)
Performance measurement based processes require certain elements as prerequisite in each of the four
stages viz proposal; negotiation and approval; execution and reporting. To be meaningful,
performance measurement in budgeting must be reflected in each stage

Abstract
The SAARC region with over a billion populations is contiguous to the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal
and the Arabian Sea. Utilization of ocean resources for power generation such as tidal, thermal solar
and wind for energy, along with other green technologies like seaweed farming and sustainable
fisheries for food would need to be incorporated in a broad framework for the region. Development of
ocean based energy systems can be integrated with early warning networks linked by satellite which
can give a few hours to days warning to help mitigate the severity of natural disasters on human life. .
Some of the calamities of note have been the Tsunami of 2004, Bangladesh and Orissa floods,
earthquakes in Nepal and Pakistan, and recent inundation of Chennai due to weather and bad flood
management. A SAARC comprehensive Framework on disaster management was formulated in
alignment with the Hyogo Framework (2005 2015). In addition to the broad objectives of disaster
management and cooperation in the Indian Ocean and surrounding regions, impeding disasters due to
climate change need to be anticipated. Ocean energy systems are still in their infancy, while ocean

The Poetry Of Pablo Neruda
Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto, also known as Pablo Neruda was born on July 12, 1904 in a
small town in Chile. Neruda s mother died shortly after his birth, leaving him in the care of his father.
Neruda began to write at the age of ten. Gabriela Mistral, who would later become a Nobel Prize
winner, recognized Neruda s talents by giving him books and encouragement he did not have at home.
In his early teen years, he began to publish his writings under the name of what we know as Pablo
Neruda in memory of the Czechoslovak poet, Jan Neruda, but also to avoid his father s disapproval of
Neruda s interests in literature. This essay will analyze Neruda s life and how it may have influenced
his style, tone and other literary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of Garcia Lorca s death, Neruda joined the Republican movement, starting off in Spain then
in France, Neruda worked on a collection of poems called España en el Corazón, or, Spain in our
Hearts. When these poems were written, Neruda seemed to be in a very difficult place and it seemed
like he would be for a very long time. For example, his poem, Cursed states, Bring, bring the lamp,
see the soaked earth, see the blackened little bone eaten by the flames, the garment of murdered Spain.
Just by that excerpt, you can tell that the tone of this poem is very dark. In fact, the majority of Neruda
s poems in this book seemed as if they all had the same tone; gloomy and pessimistic. His poems
reflected this tone from the 1940 s and onward, showing the political struggle in South America. This
does show that life experiences can really affect the way that poets write. A disheartening event can
lead a poet to write very depressing poems, and vice versa. Even though Neruda wrote a lot about the
political struggle, he also wrote a lot of poems about love, such as, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of
Despair. One love poem that he wrote, Your Laughter, was intriguing. The poem reveals how the
person in the poem is obviously struggling in life. But, the laughter of their significant other s
motivates them to keep driving through whatever darkness they are going through, and keeps them
happy as well. A small excerpt of the poem states, My struggle

The Importance Of Setting In Blood Red Horse
The setting creates challenges and opportunities for characters. For example when Ellie was left
vulnerable and when the climber in the poem Ascent has finger pain. In all different genres, setting
affects the text whether it s physical challenges or emotional challenges.
In the novel Blood Red Horse, the author, K.M Grant, uses the setting to add conflict, challenges, and
opportunities to the story. In Blood Red Horse the setting, which is in the time of the crusades, affects
the character Ellie as it leaves her defenseless. In Blood Red Horse, the author writes, I do know you
can no longer marry Gavin De Granville. This means you will be fair game for knights on the prowl
(248). Because the setting takes place in a time of war Ellie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The climber has one place to go, to the top, this is an opportunity to prove everyone wrong, and smash
all the lies people were telling him. In the poem, the author writes, They tell you to never look
downThe average climbing rope is 50 meters longAnd rated by the numbers of fallsIt can
withstandBecauseIt is expected that you are going to lose your grip (2 7).This shows that no one
believes in him. When the author writes, it is expected (7), he implies that everyone else thinks that.
When Michael Salinger writes, But not your fingertip painTrigger loaded camsSway at your

pain because the cliff is so rough and jagged. The challenges in the poem Ascent by Michael Salinger,

Historic Value Of The Oregon Historical District
The Oregon Historical District is a twelve city block area in Dayton, Ohio that is registered with the
National Register of Historic Places. This reasonably small area has both commercial and residential
land uses. Though mixed use space, commercial and residential, is seen as a modern phenomenon, this
area of land is quite old for an American city with the original plat recording in 1829. However, the
homes in the area developed over a period of 100 years which allowed for them to development with
different architectural features with the most common being Classic Revival. This different
architectural development could also be seen throughout the business district. Intriguing ideas held
within the historic value of the Oregon Historical District are the ideas of preservation and protection.
Instead of requiring its residents to rehabilitate the homes to original status the requirements are that
the home look authentic and have the appeal of authenticity. The aesthetic nature of the homes should
be less museum like and more home like with the intention of preserving the architectural character of
the past. In 1975, the Oregon Historical District ratified a Constitution with the most recent
amendment in 2014. This Constitution requires that residents that live within the twelve block radius
of the district be part of the Oregon District Historic Society. These residents are known as members
and pay a yearly membership fee. There is a board of trustees that consists of nine

Tim Burton Analysis
In this painting by Tim Burton, our eyes are immediately drawn to the large, red spiral connected to a
large down facing arrow. I choose this picture, due to Tim s excellent use of the principal of Focal
point. He has used his principal of design to make this painting more complex by adding two other
elements, Colour and Lines. Tim s focal point has been careful made by the bright and bold colour
choice of red. Whereas the the organic spiral in the centre of the painting recreates the sense of
confusion and loneliness in which the real focus / subject of the painting might be feeling.
Another way Tim Burton has managed to create an artwork like this, is by he s specific use of tools in
which have been combined to make multiple techniques

Photoreceptor Fatigue Lab Report
In this experiment, the effect of age on the speed of photoreceptor fatigue was tested. This was tested
by producing an afterimage in people of various ages to find when they became fatigued to the color
green. This result showed that people that were older often had their photoreceptors fatigue faster and
have their afterimage last longer. This may be connected to the fact that the amount of cells atrophy
with age. Further test may be needed to tell what causes the sudden increase in fatigue at an older age.
Introduction
The eye is a very important organ because it allows us to not just see something, but to also see them
in colors. Vision is created when light passes through the cornea, and reflected by lens until it hits the
retina in the back of the eye. On the retina are two types of light absorbing cells. These two types are
rods and cones cells. Cone cells are used for color vision while rods are used to see in black and white.
The cone cells can pick up 3 basic colors; red, green, and blue. When they pick up light,
photosensitive chemicals in the outer part of a cell release a electrical charge, allowing the brain to
precieve the light as color. They use different groupings of these colors ... Show more content on

The brighter and longer you take in the stimuli the longer it takes for it to readjust. An example of this
is the psychologist Kenneth Craig. After staring at the sun for two minutes he caused damage to the
retina. The photoreceptor cells were damaged beyond repair and gave him the view of a orange/black
sun whether his eyes were open or closed. With age it become apparent that many parts of the body
become weaker, and the eyes are no exception. Around the age of 40 is when the eyes begin to fail.
Along with basic things like peripheral vision, your color vision fades. The cells become less sensitive
to the colors it receives. Colors become less vibrant and less

Benefits of Using Mobile Technology in the Classroom
Technology is changing every day, and we are seeing this innovation in more places than ever,
especially in classrooms. More specifically, since the release of the first Apple iPad in March 2010 we
have seen an overwhelming amount of possibilities that were merely just ideas become available in
our classroom. Take for instance wanting to have a class trip to the Guggenheim. Now, this is possible
with virtual field trips. The Guggenheim offers a free app that lets individuals explore works of art
with a virtual tour and an audio tour. There are several other museums that offer this same feature,
such as Musée Du Louvre, The Canadian Museum of Civilization, and the American Museum of
Natural History. Say you want to bake a cake with the children in your classroom, but you have a child
with allergies. Now, this is possible with a cake baking app called Cake Maker Cooking Games, and
there are number of similar apps that allow the baking of all things imaginable via a tablet. With the
invention of iPads, and like tablets came the surge in production of applications or apps. Apps have an
interactive nature that allows users to play out real life scenarios, or scenarios that are far from reality.
Some may recall the 2009 commercial for the iPhone with the ever popular saying, There s an App for
that. Never would we have thought four years later, there really could be an app for almost any and
everything imaginable. Through experience in observing multiple schools and

The Theme Of Perseverance In Harry Potter And The Goblet...
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, by J.K. Rowling, is a story about a young wizard, by the name of
Harry Potter, who faces many challenges throughout his years in the magical school of Hogwarts.
With the help of his friends, Ron and Hermione, Harry was able to conquer Lord Voldemort s wrath
(Evil wizard set on destroying Harry) twice, save many school students from harm, and even help his
newly found godfather Sirius escape from the deatheaters. With all that has occurred in these past few
books, I think that a definite theme in this series is perseverance. I think that the lesson that the author
is trying to show about perseverance, is that sometimes you might be put into a difficult situation, but
it is important to power through and stay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As soon as they arrived in a small graveyard, both confused as to why they hadn t returned to the main
arena, a raspy voice echoed, saying Kill the other , and a blinding flash of green light struck down
Cedric. For a second that contained an eternity, Harry stared into Cedric s face, at his open gray eyes,
blank and expressionless as the windows of a deserted house, at his half open mouth, which looked
slightly surprised. And then, before he could feel anything but numb disbelief, he felt himself being
pulled up to his feet. Harry finally understood why he wasn t back, he had been deceived and brought
to Lord Voldemort himself, but he did not back down. He did not greet death so swiftly, and fought,
meeting Lord Voldemort himself in combat, for Cedric. As the closest bead of light moved nearer to
Harry s wand tip, the wood beneath his fingers grew so hot he feared it would burst into flame. The
closer the bead moved, the harder Harry s wand vibrated; he was sure his wand would not survive
contact with it; it felt as though it was about to shatter under his fingers. He concentrated every last
particle of his mind upon forcing the bead back toward Voldemort, his ears full of the phoenix song,
his eyes furious, fixed... and slowly, very slowly, the beads quivered to a halt, and then, just as

The Horatio Alger Myth
In the current state of America, several issues such as race, gender, sexual orientation and upward
mobility are still relevent concerns. The Horatio Alger Myth of being able to move upward on merit
and hard work alone is an ideology of the 1950 s that clings to the coattails of America s lower class
even today. Though the thought of moving upwards in society is hopeful, it is not always plausible.
The barriers seperating people in the lower class and upper middle class is growing. What is needed is
the Redefinition of upward mobility for pleople of lower income. The Horatio Alger Myth is still just
a myth for most, when it needs to become a reality. The impact of the Horatio Alger myth, is based off

As Coontz corrilates Still, I have no illusions that I d actually go back to the 1950s , and neither do
most people who express such occasional nostalgia (Coontz, 28). The air that it held of being secure in
ones job, future and family was something that everyone could take a security in. Even if that security
wasn t something that would have essentailly come to them. People of minorities weren t treated
fairly, neither were women. However the ideal of a white man in the 1950 s, working and being able
to live comfortably with a family and send his children to school was something that everyone wanted
to attain, and still want to attain today. Even as the bridges are closed between racial and gender
profiling and stereotyping are closing, even if their not closed completely. Financial stability and the
gap between the working and upper classes in America is still growing more and more distant as the
economy continues downward. The Horatio Alger myth is still going strong, and ideally as perfect as
that situation is. The Myth in question needs to change to suit the changes of America, or America
needs to become a place like the myth where you can move up in the world with hard work and merits

Socrates Expression Contemplation Of Death
What does plato mean with the expression contemplation of death ? Describe the doctrine of ideas as
exposed in the Phaedo.
Plato s idea of reality can be explained through his doctrine of ideas. He argues the point through a
dialogue argument between Socrates and his friends. Socrates thinks that there are two kinds of
existences; firstly, the visible world that we perceive with our senses, which is human, mortal,
composite, unintelligible, and always changing. Secondly, the invisible world of Forms that we can
access solely with our minds, which is divine, deathless, intelligible, non composite, and always the
same (78c 79a, 80b). Socrates explains that the theory which he regards as most certain, as least
vulnerable to attack, is none other than the Theory of Forms. This theory explains that there exist as
real entities such things as Beauty in itself, Goodness in itself, and ... Show more content on

Socrates proved that the life comes from death and death comes from life itself through the concepts
of opposites coming to be from their opposites (70e2) because similarly to awake being the opposite
of sleeping, (71c1) death follows life and since they are opposite, life would thus come after death.
Socrates also pointed out that if this was not the case, very soon all of the world would be dead. That
is to say, if all living things ends up dead, but new living things were not made from those that had
died, the number of dead would very soon supersede and overwhelm the number of the living, and
everything would ultimately be dead. (72d1) Even if the living could only be made out of other living
things through birth, there would only be a limited number of living things before they all run out and

Light Contour Research Paper
Hey Everyone Happy Saturday! I hope you all had a great Saturday! For today s post I am going to
share my thoughts about Kat Von D Shade+Light Contour Palette. I bought this in the haul that I did
after christmas. I have to say that I had had a hard time finding good bronzers that were good for
contouring. The ones that I had in my makeup collection were shimmery and after I would contour my
face would look like one big sparkle. Well I had hesitated in buying this palette just because of the
cost however I went to Sephora and swatched it and fell in love. This was back when it was fairly new.
Just before christmas I almost went and bought it however I waited until after christmas just incase
someone bought it for me. Well I didn t get it for christmas so when I went back into Sephora I Just
knew that I would have to get my hands on it. I love this palette! The colors that are in it are beautiful!
They are the perfect contouring colors. I love the bronzers. I use the first two colors of the bronzers
the most, but I have used the darkest color a couple times. I have used the Highlight shades as well,

Joy Luck Club, And Waverly Tan s Joy Luck Club
Waverly Jong is very different from her mother, Lindo, but Waverly shares some similarities with her
mother. Both women know how to be tricky towards their situations. When married to Tyan yu in
China, Lindo devised a plan to exit the marriage without dishonoring her family. Lindo said, It was
really quite simple. I made the Huangs think it was their idea to get rid of me, that they would be the
ones to say the contract was valid. (Tan, Joy Luck Club 63). Lindo later stated, They didn t blame me
so much. Huang Taitai got her grandson. I got my clothes, a rail ticket to Peking, and enough money
to go to America. (Tan, Joy Luck Club 66). Lindo Jong uses her deceitfulness to get herself out of the
marriage, while Waverly Jong uses her deceitfulness to trick her opponents in chess. When going
against one of her opponents, she described it as the challenger disappearing, the color ran out of the
room, and I saw only my white pieces and his black ones waiting on the other sides. A light wind
began blowing past my ears. It whispered secrets only I could hear.... Check, I said, as the wind roared
with laughter. (Tan, Joy Luck Club, 96 and 97). When reading these examples, both mother and
daughter show a correlation with this craftiness in certain situations. Although, Lindo and Waverly
have their differences. Lindo Jong has a very strong sense of self during situations. Before Lindo s
marriage, she was questioning who she was. She then gains control over herself and tells

Whether you re building a wine cellar in Houston TX or another state, you want to be sure everything
is perfect. There are many people around the world who love wine, but not all of them have a wine
cellar in which they can safely store their wine. One of the reasons they may have opted to not build
one could be that they have believed the many myths about wine cellars. What they may not know is
that these myths they have chosen to believe are really just common misconceptions.
Here are five myths people may have believed about wine cellars.
1. Stains are toxic.
While there are some stains out their that are not ideal for use in a wine cellar, there are alternatives to
the stains that people consider toxic. Stains give wine racks a stylish appearance, which is why many

The bigger the refrigerator, the better.
You will most likely want to keep your wine chilled, so that means you ll need a refrigerator.
However, this doesn t mean that the refrigerator needs to be the biggest one on the market. As long as
you have a fridge that will keep your wine at the ideal temp, then size does not matter.
5. Wine cellars are expensive.
Wine cellars can be fancy and stylish, but that doesn t mean they have to expensive. There are various
wine racks available, as well as companies that can build you your dream cellar and won t drive you
broke.
If you love wine, a cellar would be the perfect addition to your home. You may have been skeptical
before, but now that you know the truth about wine cellars, you may be open to building one. Should

Tropical Cyclones in Australia
Location: Tropical cyclones occur in the northern part of Australia, around the periphery, or in the
tropics. The areas most affected by tropical cyclones are Queensland and Western Australia, with New
South Wales being one of the states rarely affected. The season for tropical cyclones in the southern
hemisphere is from November to April.
What is a tropical cyclone: Tropical cyclones are a type of low pressure systems which generally form
in the tropics. They are violent storms, which rotate anti clockwise. Cloud and wind rotates a calm
central area, in the tropics (area north or south of the equator) and causes damage to people s
properties, death, destruction of recourses, and leaves people severely injured. Tropical cyclones occur

State/Territory: The responsibilities vary in the different levels of government, the state has to deal
with such issues as schooling (public schools), making sure that each child has an education; if a
cyclone where to hit their responsibility would be also for the repair and maintenance of the schools.
Also policing would be an issue the state/ territory would have to deal with, making sure our criminal
system is in order, and by trying to prevent as little crime if a cyclone where to struck. Main roads,
and traffic would be a very important matter it would have to deal with, due to uneven roads, no traffic
lights, unstable ground if a cyclone where to come.
Federal: The federal responsibilities include the supervising of the local and state/territory, making
sure that they do their job to help people get through the misfortune of a cyclone. They also have the
task of quarantine, and hospitalizing the injured. In the case of a cyclone they would also have to
manage the imports of supplies to the homeless, the Medicare and wellbeing of the people that were
put through that ordeal.
How do cyclones occur or form?
For a cyclone to develop its form, stages take place for this natural hazard to occur:
Stage zero The temperature of the ocean/sea has to be 26.5°C or over, during this stage a low pressure
system starts to gather clouds and become very stormy. Continuous cloud build up occurs, during the
night and day, due to the sun assisting to heat ocean/sea in

The Development Of The Pair Bond
In our culture the relationship most often discussed when describing human interaction and that which
is considered the most ideal or normal relationship (demonstrated by cultural morality and various
forms of media) is that of the male female couple. This pair bonding is a phenomenon that exists to
some degree in the natural world, but occurs most prominently in humans. The development of the
pair bond is one of the single most important aspects of human evolution, culture, and relationships as
we understand them today. This behavior has driven human sociality, reproduction, and cultural
development through evolutionary, physiological, and psychological means. By understanding and
assessing the history and evolution of pair bonding, the means by which our cultural foundations were
established can be discovered. To determine how the pair bond has been established, one must look at
the various evolutionary pressures that lead to this type of behavior. As Herbert (2005) explains, the
reproductive strategies of organisms are often defined by biologists as r or K strategies. The former
tend to be smaller and live in unstable environments with their reproductive strategy being to produce
as many offspring as possible (potentially only once in their lifetime), many of them dying before
reaching the reproductive age of their already short life expectancy. The offspring with the highest
fitness are the ones that survive to this reproductive stage. In contrast, K strategists

Heart Of Darkness, By Joseph Conrad
The political philosopher Benjamin Constant argued, no one has a right to a truth which injures others.
The question of lying has been debated for centuries: where should one draw the line with lying?
Should one try to never tell lies? Can the public handle the truth? In Joseph Conrad s novella Heart of
Darkness, Marlow, the protagonist, tried to answer this conundrum. He lied three times during the
course of his story, each time becoming larger than the last. As the philosopher Kant argued, once a lie
is told, the concept of truth itself is attacked, leading to increasingly great lies until they become too
large for the liar himself. In this novella, Marlow began by lying to someone of no consequence;
subsequently he lied to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A reader wants to trust the author. The way the book is written, as someone else s story, makes the
reader question what is being said. How does one know that the speaker is trustworthy when they can
tell he is hiding his true feelings from himself and the others at some parts in the story?
The first time that Marlow introduced the idea of lying is when he let the first class agent at the
Central Station believe he was more influential than he actually was. After committing this minor
falsehood, he explained in depth that it was unusual for him to lie, as if to assure the reader not to
worry. Explaining not only to the men on the Nellie, but also to the readers, You know I hate, detest,
and can t bear a lie, not because I am straighter than the rest of us, but simply because it appalls me.
There is a taint of death, a flavor of mortality in lies which is exactly what I hate and detest in the
world what I want to forget (32), he was not trying to convince them that he did not lie ever, but that
when he did, it as for a specific, important reason. He lowered himself to the level of the pilgrims, the
worst of society in their power hungry mindset, because of his lie. Another important aspect of this
quote is that it was said before Marlow entered the wildness of Africa, and it s as if he lost his
innocence of the world. Before Africa, he was just as blind to the realities of the world as the other
Europeans. After this small lie, he underwent experiences in

Australian Code Of Research Ethics Essay
1) Codes and policies
Research integrity means meeting the professional standards expected of the researchers in the
institution. That includes honesty and fairness in proposing, performing and reporting research. It also
involves care and respect for all participants in and subjects of research, including humans, animals,
the environment and cultural objects. Researcher should conduct his/her research in a way which
allows others to have trust and confidence in the methods used.
The Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (the Code) guides institutions and
researchers in responsible research practices and promotes research integrity. It assists institutions in
developing their own codes.
In my research, the Australian code and RMIT policy govern my way in which I must conduct my

The Life Of A Registered Sex Offender
The Life of a Registered Sex Offender

Abstract
When we hear the phrase, sex offender, we normally feel repulsed. We think of dirty old creepy men. I
for one used to do this, I won t lie. This is because people like to rush to judgment. But my opinions
changed when I came to the realization that it s not just creepy old men who are sex offenders. I want
to talk about them, but not those who are serial rapists or child molesters; they don t deserve to be
talked about. I m talking about people who are convicted, whether it s falsely, or unjustly, and have to
wear a stamp on their forehead for the rest of their lives saying they are a sex offender.
I have an uncle named Michael and he s 29; he ll be 31 in October. In 2006 in Fredericksburg,
Virginia, he was convicted of rape. A young woman lied and said he raped her, and now he will
forever be scarred. In many rape cases, the defense will say that the victim was fantasizing the rape or
is lying, but sometimes she really is lying (Siegel, 1995, p. 304). Virginia has a two tier system for sex
offenders, violent and non violent. Even though Michaels charge was for the rape of an adult, he is
still considered a violent sexual predator, forever. This means he can t go to McDonalds, he can t go to
see his nieces and nephews, and he couldn t even go to my high school graduation two

Comparing and Contrasting Prokaryotic, Archaean, and Eukaryotic Cells For the longest time, the
only known two domains in the taxonomical hierarchy were referred to as Prokaryotes and
Eukaryotes. In recent times, scientists have discovered and added a third domain of life, known as,
Archaea. These three taxons exist together to make up the microbial world that we live in. All three
domains can be found freely all over the earth. Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes are usually more common,
with Archaea being extremely rare. Although coming from three entirely different domains, all three
possess similar characteristics, but also have some unique features. Prokaryotes are single celled

The theory of Endosymbiosis originated in the early 1900s by the Russian botanist, Konstantin

prokaryotic cells that had been swallowed by them and survived by developing a symbiotic
relationship, two different entities working together to benefit each other, by living inside the larger
cell. Scientists have conducted extensive research and believe that mitochondria, chloroplasts, flagella,

The Importance Of Learning And Its Effects On Human Behavior
An individual will know things and will be able to perform different types of behaviours. Where these
behaviours come from however, depends on many things. Some things are innate therefore, one can be
born with the knowledge. Learning is a process that plays a part in determining behaviour. Learning
can thereby be defined as a comparatively permanent difference in behaviour and knowledge that
comes from experience or training. However, other forms of learning must be acquired actively. Thus,
any knowledge or behaviour that one may have without being born with, was somehow learned .
Various methods of learning have been examined through different methods such as from
experimenting on the salivation level of dogs, to examining how one ties their shoelace. Conditioning
on the other hand, although relatively similar to learning, is not the same as learning. It can be defined
as a behavioural process whereby a response will become more frequent and more predictable in any
given environment at any period of time as a result of reinforcement, while the reinforcement is
usually a stimulus that is a compensation for an aspired response. A form of mental and physical
behaviour that relates to learning is addiction. Addiction can be defined as an irresistible craving on a
behaviour or substance whereby one will either be able unable to stop the addiction, or continue to
crave it. Addictions usually increase in severity over time unless precautions or steps have been taken

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Food Biotechnology And...
Food Biotechnology and Dairy Product
What is Food Biotechnology?
Food biotechnology is a branch of food science that works to improve foods and its production.
Biotechnological processes which could be used to improve the food production are industrial
fermentation, plant cultures and genetic engineering.
It must be noted that it is through genetic engineering that organisms can change the DNA of a food
due to which new genetically modified food can be introduced in the market. These genetically
modified foods, which are high in demand, promotes new traits and great control as compared to the
old methods which include selective breeding and mutation breeding. (1)
History of Food Biotechnology:
Food biotechnology leads back to the era of the Sumerians and Babylonians who made fermented
beverages like beer with the help of yeast. Plant enzymes like malts ... Show more content on

Advantages and disadvantages of food biotechnology
It is alarming to know that there is a dispute over the use of the genetically modified food. Some
people consider GM food to be dangerous and they say that they are detrimental to health and
biodiversity would be disturbed by their use hence they must not be used. On the contrary, others
believe that using GM food would benefit the world by providing disease resistant plants and save

Poets of the Tang Dynasty Essay
Throughout human history, our beliefs have influenced our actions. This is why we have studies like
the humanities. During the Tang Dynasty, different religions developing during the time had enormous
influence on what was being produced during the era. When it comes to literature, poets like Wang
Wei, Li Bai, Du Fu, and Bo Juyi expressed their religions through their poetry during the Tang era.
While it was not always directly mentioned in their poetry, there are connections between the Tang
Dynasty poets works and their respective religions. Wang Wei (699 761CE), was a Buddhist poet that

1170). His poetry really appeals to the senses. One of the ways that Buddhism was introduced to the
Tang Dynasty was by means of a legendary monk: Xuanzang. He traveled to India, while the city of
Chang an suffered from chaos, to study the original Buddhist scripts and later returned to China to
translate all of them and interpret the ideas for the people through his Weishi School (Wen, 77). The
concept of emptiness is very prominent in Buddhism emptiness is neither reality nor total nothingness.
Thus, being and nothingness only differ in name; the ontological statuses of both are emptiness (76).
In Wei s poem, Hermitage at Chung nan Mountain he writes: ...and go there on a whim to wander
alone. But even in all this splendor, things remain empty. I climb to the headwaters where clouds rise
up from emptiness (Davis et al. 1170). The emptiness to which he is referring is not literal emptiness,
but to the underlying unity of all things. Also, the Chung nan Mountain that he refers to was a part of
the well known mountains that draw many followers of Taoism and Buddhism because of their
solitude. When he says Growing older, I grow into the Tao... he is referring to the way of life that can
be achieved by following Buddhist traditions. The poet Li Bai (701 762CE) was

Human Culture Exploded With The Invention Of Agriculture
Human culture exploded with the invention of agriculture approximately 10,000 years ago in the
Fertile Crescent. For the first time, instead of being largely nomadic, following herds of game animals
through their migrations, humanity could settle down into permanent settlements. For the first time
since the dawn of man, not every waking hour revolved around food. Man finally had a large amount
of leisure time, and energy to spare. This energy went into the creation of vast cities and temples, great
public works of art and engineering marvels. Less than 500 years after wheat and barley were first
grown by humans, we were brewing the first beers, and it was only up from there (O Neil). In the
blink of an eye, empires rose and fell again and again: Babylon, Egypt, Rome, Greece, and countless
more. As these empires grew, they spread out. This spreading out increased trade and globalization in
ways never before heard of. Continents no longer connected by land became connected by people.
Ships were sent off to distant lands and returned with new plants and animals, many of which became
the first invasive species. With no natural predators in their new environment, these newcomers could
quickly destabilize an ecosystem, and they often did. Muscles clinging to the hulls of ships could
become detached in foreign ports and establish a foothold on the ocean floor, quickly decimating the
native marine flora and fauna. Rats which had stowed away on the hulls of ships would sometimes

The Global Sex Trade And Women As The Supplier Essay
The Global Sex Trade and Women as the Supplier
Introduction
Women involved or forced into sex work (prostitution) are striped of dignity and self worth they come
from poverty, migration and cultural backgrounds that face gender inequality (Bhat Pushpam, 2013, p.
3). Forced prostitution is a global problem but is more prevalent in poorer countries (True, 2013).
Victims of prostitution affect women and children of all ages (Bhat Pushpam, 2013, p. 3). The sex
industry thrives making billions of dollars and is funded by investors, crooked recruiters, and even
corrupt government employees (Bhat Pushpam, 2013, p. 3). Females involved in the sex trade face
inhuman treatment they are raped, demoralized, defeated and will never live a normal life again (Bhat
Pushpam, 2013, p. 3). Many women will migrate across borders in search for economic stability but
instead will be coerced into sex work (Wonders Danner, 2002). Women in poorer countries with low
social class face gender inequalities mainly because of cultural and political misguidance. Strategies
that can help prevent women from forced prostitution and sex work include higher pay, a support
system for women to get an education, and government reforms to help prevent migration and the
people that keep the industry thriving.
Effects of Poverty on Women
Sex workers can exist anywhere but are primarily more prevalent in poorer countries and women and
children who participate or who are forced into sex work do so

The Third Wave Of Feminism In The Early 20th Century
Feminism is still very much needed in this day in age. Although Feminism has come a long way since
being first introduced in the early 20th century, the movement faces new challenges. Women have
accomplished the goals they had set from the first wave of Feminism, including the right to vote, the
right to work, and the right to have custodial rights over their children. The second wave of Feminism
focus was for women to have sexuality and reproductive rights. Women gained their reproductive
rights in the Roe vs. Wade (1973). In Roe vs. Wade, women gained the right to have abortions. The
third wave of Feminism, which is continuing right now, focuses on universal womanhood; how
women are portrayed in society. Although women have accomplished some of the goals they set in the

the second wave, one of the focuses was sexuality. Sexuality is still an issue today. Same sex marriage
had just been recently recognized in the United States (June 26 2015). Although same sex marriage is

Pharmaceutical Companies and the Availability of Hiv Drugs...

importation into the United States of pharmaceuticals sold at lower prices abroad (say, in Canada)?
Pharmaceutical companies try to maintain a monopoly in the early stages of a drug in order to recover
R amp;D investment. During this period of exclusivity they will try to make a fair profit. This is not a
monopoly in the true sense of the word because this period is limited in time. It is perhaps better to
describe it as a limited warranty. There are also other limitations. Pharmaceutical companies in some
countries may not respect intellectual property and may copy or produce generic drugs even before the
patent expires.

The successful products must therefore provide sufficient margins to recover R amp;D costs and to
finance future projects. Packaging and transportation will also result in significantly higher costs than
say the manufacture of cereal.
Another factor for higher margins is the greater risk that pharmaceutical companies take on. It is
impossible to tell whether a viable drug that is safe for the public will emerge, and competitors may
launch a better drug in the time period between submission and regulatory approval. Because of grey
trade, the company may also find its profit margin in high priced markets being eroded.
Suggest an approach to the big pharmaceutical company problem of differential pricing in the US,
Western Europe, and Japan versus the less developed world.
At the moment, differential pricing is the pharmaceutical industry s preferred solution to inadequate
financial access to anti retroviral (ARV) therapies for AIDS. Differential pricing permits drugs to be
sold cheaply in low income countries, while maintaining high prices in markets like the United States.
The alternative to differential pricing would be uniform pricing, wherein the wherein the seller sets

such pricing, the seller maximizes his profits against global demand or

The Importance Of Education In High School
From a young age, I have always been encouraged by my parents to take advantage of every
educational opportunity that I could. My mother was the first in her family to go to college, and my
father was educationally gifted from his youth, so they instilled their beliefs of the importance of
education in me. In the third grade, I was accepted into the Center Based Gifted (CBG) program, and
was surrounded with other educationally driven people from that time until I graduated from middle
school. From there on, I applied for several specialty centers in my county, which closely resemble
colleges in their application processes and the emphasis on certain fields of academia. The Math and
Science High School at Clover Hill was the most fitting program for me and I was a part of the
competitively academic program offered there for all of high school. As my education has always been
a major part of my life, college was a given post high school plan for me. The struggle from there
became deciding which college best fit my personal academic needs. The house I grew up in was
surrounded by modest wooded areas, ideal for exploring, and had a small creek running through it. In
reality, the creek was a sewage ditch, but to me it was where I fell in love with biology and marine
life. I was fortunate enough to spend my childhood knee deep in water, exploring the tiny tadpoles,
crayfish, newts, lizards, and minnows that found their home in the creek. Experiencing the life cycle

Isolation In Me Before You, By Sylvia Plath And The Bell Jar
The novel The Bell Jar written by Sylvia Plath and the film Me Before You directed by Thea Sharrock
both explore the idea of isolation. Both the author and director use various techniques in their texts to
position the audience to understand that isolation makes a person withdraw from life and therefore
leads to their downfall. Techniques such as symbolism, motif, imagery, simile and visual and literary
techniques allow the author and director to deliver the message. Plath and Sharrock actively portray
that while being remote and withdrawn from life one cannot develop growth skills to overcome
struggles through the use of symbolism, while Plath further raises this through implementing a motif.
Both the author and director use symbolism to show the audience that both characters become
isolated. Plath utilised the bell jar to symbolise that Esther is gripped by the insanity in her mind that
is inescapable, compelling her to disengage from those around her and causes her loneliness. Plath
explored this further [VB1] as Esther became isolated through her mental breakdowns as during these
periods she did not want to get out of bed as the air of the bell jar wadded around her. She would be
sitting alienated under the same glass bell jar, stewing in my own sour air. Demonstrating to the
audience that although Esther can view the world, her perspective is distorted as the glass jar prevents

The American Dream In The Overnighters And The California...
Since the inception of this country, the concept of the American Dream has been driven forward by
men and women who believe that they can be as successful as they desire if they only roll up their
sleeves, take charge of their lives, and work hard to accomplish their goals. Indeed, it was this idea
that brought many foreigners to settle in this country in the first place. These types of men and women
jump at any opportunity to better their lives, such as when hundreds of thousands flocked out to
California in 1849 to become wealthy through the search and acquisition of gold. The underlying
situation at play in The Overnighters is no different from the search for the New World or the
California Gold Rush. The communities that form around such fountains of opportunity often strain
the surrounding areas, however, and the Overnighter community of vagabonds and strangers that
formed in the town of Williston, North Dakota was no different, ultimately becoming a source of
conflict that forced the metaphorical moral hands of nearly everyone they surrounded. In recent years,
the North Dakota oil boom has attracted men and women looking for wealth and success from all over
the United States. In some cases, these people packed up nearly everything they have, left everything
they had ever known, and made the hike to North Dakota to seek a job in the oil industry that they did
not know they would receive once there. These individuals no doubt heard stories of plentiful jobs

Combination Therapy In Contemporary Psychotherapy
Last week, I went to grand rounds and watched a presentation by Dr. Susan J. Waller and Dr. William
T. Nay. Their presentation was titled The Role of Psychotherapy in Contemporary Psychiatry, which
aimed to find greater understanding of the dynamics that have changed psychotherapy s role in
modern psychiatry and medical education. Their present goal was to assure VCU students and faculty
that there are no problems or bias in VCU/MCV psychotherapy training. Currently, students are
required to study psychotherapy, so Waller and Nay looked to find if it was a necessary requirement.
The lecture started off with a brief history of psychiatry. At it s birth in the 1800s, psychiatry became a
medical specialty to treat severely ill and severely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Five years later, the therapists were asked to complete self reported surveys based on their honesty,
humor styles, playfulness, and creativity. The effect of these traits on treatment is called therapist
effect or therapist effectiveness and is believed to account for about 5% of the variance in patient
outcomes. That sounds like a small effect, but comparing treatment from the most effective and the
least effective therapists on the study s scale can double chances of improvement. The study looked to
find variables that may contribute to a therapist s effectiveness as to better identify therapists that with
have a higher number of positive outcomes. Many demographic variables (i.e. gender, age,
professional degree) were not included in the study because they have already been found to be
unreliable when predicting outcomes of the therapist effect. The study purposely used the four distinct
personality traits to characterize therapist effectiveness. Additionally, unlike other short term studies
researching the same topic, this study was comprised of 1 hour sessions every week for a year. The
study surprisingly

Psychodynamic Andy Paper
Psychodynamic Andy s lack of self discipline, poor planning and anxious behavior can be explained
by Freud s analysis of personality development. Andy s age would indicate that he is in the genital
stage of psychosexual stages. The genital stage focuses on a maturation of sexual interest that is
causing the inability to focus on day to day activities as well as prohibiting the conscious mind from
exhibiting appropriate behavior when interacting with peers. The anxiety is a product of Andy s trying
to retain control of his sexual and aggressive impulses. The over critical behavior towards others is a
defense mechanism that he is using to reduce his own anxiety or at least redirect the anxiety towards
people around him but distorting reality. By utilizing the defense mechanism of displacement, Andy is
hoping to shift these impulses to the people around him. Andy s repression and use of projection and
displacement to others is his method of trying to rid himself of the underlying thoughts and feelings
that are causing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on Andy s behavioral pattern he is quite introverted and is showing unstable behavior. The
instability can be attributed to his age and tendencies for extraversion and emotional stability to
decrease in middle adulthood. Andy s genetic makeup could also be having a significant influence on
the traits. Andy s lack of conscientiousness, agreeableness, emotional stability, openness and
extraversion are all expressed in his behavior towards others and lack of discipline. Andy s self
concept is negative and he feels dissatisfied and unhappy. Andy needs to be genuine with himself and
other s and have acceptance of others around him as well as show empathy to others feelings. This
change is behavioral traits will create a positive self concept and a more stable

Frederick Lee Shuttlesworth Essay
Frederick Lee Shuttlesworth was born on March 18, 1922 in Mount Meigs, Alabama. Born into a large
family, Shuttlesworth moved to Birmingham Alabama as a young child. A black man graduating from
high school in the South during the 1940s and 50s was a rarity. Not only did Shuttlesworth graduate
from high school but he was the valedictorian. High school was just the first step in Frederick s
education. Shuttlesworth became inspired to pursue a life in the church and looked to further his
education by earning his B.A from Selma University in 1951. In 1952 while earning is B.S at Alabama
State College Shuttleswoth began preaching at local churches in the city of Selma. Shuttlesworth s
travels would take him full circle towards the end of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Board of Education ruling proved to be the spark that inspired Shuttlesworth to speak out racism in the
South. Shuttlesworth used the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights (ACMHR) to sue the
city of Birmingham when they refused to hire black police officers. Shuttlesworth and the ACMHR
eventually went on to attack and challenge all of Birmingham s segregation laws. This led to the first
attempt on his life when unknown persons blew up his house. His life was threatened, but his courage
stood fast. The very next day Shuttlesworth led a group of people that attempted to integrate
Birmingham s buses. Shuttlesworth s crusade to end segregation grew even stronger when he helped
cofound the Southern Leadership Conference on Transportation and Nonviolent Integration. He wasn t
the only great leader at this conference; both Martin Luther King Jr. and Bayard Rustin were present
as well, earning the nickname the Big Three. It was here where the commitment to a non violent civil
rights movement was reinforced. Shortly after the conference concluded Shuttlesworth attempted to
enroll his children in an all white school in Birmingham. With no police in sight, Shuttlesworth was
beat to within an inch of his life and his wife was stabbed. Shuttlesworth had somehow survived a
second attempt on his life. However when his home was once again bombed Shuttlesworth was forced
to move to Cincinnati, Ohio where he became the leader of the Revelation Baptist Church. Cincinnati
provided temporary safety for both he and his

The Great House
The Great House, the largest prehistoric native American structure in North America, is a four story
building constructed by ancient Sonoran Desert people, the Hohokam. The Hohokam were native
American tribes that vanished in the 1400 s leaving behind archaeological evidence of a sophisticated
culture, revealing advanced canal systems, and the Casa Grande, a big house in the Sonoran Desert
valley. Missionary, explorer and mapmaker Eusibio Francisco Kino, was the first European to
discover the site in 1694 and named it Casa Grande . After the railroad came through in 1879,
travelers would scratch their names into the walls, some took artifacts, even pieces of the wall were
taken as souvenirs. In 1889, Congress voted to take action to protect ... Show more content on

The Hohokam managed to thrive for more than 1000 years in the arid climate of the Sonoran Desert,
carving irrigation canals throughout the landscape to support an agricultural environment, bringing life
to the dry desert.(Leonard, 2007) The Hohokam were masters of the desert. Their canals became the
foundation of the modern canals used to irrigate crops along the Salt and Gila rivers. This farming
community which now lies in Coolidge Arizona became a place where they eventually would build
the Great House and many other structures and mounds around the Great House. The Great House was
designed with holes in the walls that align with the sun and the moon to mark important events in
time. Twice a year sunlight would pass through a pair of holes located in opposite walls of the
uppermost room of the Great House marking the Vernal and Autumnal equinoxes. These events would
mark the midpoint positions of the sun as it moves along its North South path. The holes were an
alignment system that helped the Hohokam keep track of time. ( Views of the National Parks, n.d.)
Public architectures included ballcourts, platform mounds, cemeteries, and trash disposal areas. The
Great house was built with over 3,000 tons of caliche to make the multi story structure that contained
eleven rooms. Surplus crops were stored in lower rooms. Eventually for reasons unknown the
Hohokam would vanish leaving behind valuable evidence of their ancient desert culture. As we study
these ancient people, we are reminded how critical water, food and shelter are for survival in the
desert, and we begin to understand the delicate balance between consuming and protecting our natural
resources. ( Views of the National Parks, n.d.) Researchers can not tell exactly what the purpose of the
Great house was, but it must have been of good importance that would require the whole community
to help build as the had no machinery or animals

The Rational Choice Theory Of Cesare Beccaria
The topic I have chosen to write this research paper over is the rational choice theory. The rational
choice theory started with the work of Cesare Beccaria in the late eighteenth century. From that point
forward, the theory has been developed and opened up to incorporate different viewpoints, like
discouragement and routine activity theory. The rational choice theory is a monetary rule that
expresses that people dependably settle on reasonable and legitimate choices. These choices furnish
individuals with the best advantage or fulfillment, given the decisions accessible and are likewise in
their most elevated self interest.
Rational choice theory accepts that all individuals attempt to effectively expand their preference in any
circumstance and in this way reliably attempt to minimize their misfortunes. The hypothesis depends
on the possibility that all people construct their choices in light of sound figuring s, act with
discernment when picking, and intend to increment either delight or benefit. Rational choice theory
likewise stipulates that all unpredictable social wonders are driven by individual human activities.
Accordingly, if a business analyst needs to clarify social change or the activities of social
organizations, he needs to take a look at the balanced choices of the people that make up the entirety.
The rational choice theory permits inclinations to be spoken to as genuine esteemed utility capacities.
Monetary basic leadership then turns into an issue of

Marijuana in the New World Essay
Marijuana in the New World The first definite record of the marijuana plant in the New World dates
from 1545 AD, when the Spaniards introduced it into Chile. It has been suggested, however, that
African slaves familiar with marijuana as an intoxicant and medicine brought the seeds with them to
Brazil even earlier in the sixteenth century. There is no record that the Pilgrims brought marijuana
with them to Plymouth but the Jamestown settlers did bring the plant to Virginia in 1611, and
cultivated it for its fiber. Marijuana was introduced into New England in 1629. From then until after
the Civil War, the marijuana plant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
British mercantile policy hampered American hemp culture for a time during and after the colonial
period by offering heavy bounties on hemp exported from Ireland; but the American plantings
continued despite this subsidized competition. At various times in the nineteenth century large hemp
plantations flourished in Mississippi, Georgia, California, South Carolina, Nebraska, and other states,
as well as on Staten Island, New York. The center of nineteenth century production, however, was in
Kentucky, where hemp was introduced in 1775. One Kentuckian, James L. Allen, wrote in 1900: The
Anglo Saxon farmers had scarce conquered foothold in the Western wilderness before they became
sowers of hemp. The roads of Kentucky . . . were early made necessary by the hauling of hemp. For
the sake of it slaves were perpetually being trained, hired, bartered; lands perpetually rented and sold;
fortunes made and lost.... With the Civil War began the decline, lasting still. The invention of the
cotton gin and of other cotton and wool machinery, and competition from cheap imported hemp, were
major factors in this decline

Police Agencies Implement Community Policing, And Problem...
Introduction Do Canadian police agencies implement community policing, and problem oriented
policing? and if so do they work? In this paper, this paper will examine the two different styles of
policing in a contemporary society. Community policing where the main emphasis is that the police
and the community work together on issues, and problem oriented policing where the police try and
understand specific issues within the community. It will also examine several examples of different
policing agencies in Canada, and what they implement for community policing, and problem oriented
policing programs, and most importantly are they community policing, or problem oriented? Like
many thing in life there are always critics of different ideas, so it will also examine the criticism on
both of these policing styles.
Policing in a Contemporary Society
Problem Oriented Policing Problem oriented policing is the method in which police agencies focus
their attention to the reasons of why crimes are committed, and the complaints of crimes from the
public, with the focus on trying to better understand them (Goff, 2016). Problem oriented policing was
developed by Herman Goldstein in 1979, he described it as a change in the way in which police
function (Goff, 2016). Goff also stated the main premise is that crime needed to be studied, the police
did not have the true understanding of the underlying cause of crime, it was also stated that if they did
not do this there would be a greater

  • 2. Introduction Of The Hershey Company Essay Kyandra Byars December 3, 2016, Introduction to Business The Hershey Company Introduction The Hershey Company produces the best chocolate according to a survey taken among my coworkers. This company is well known for their Hershey s Kisses, Kit Kat, Whopper s, Reese s Peanut Butter Cups and much more! Personally Kit Kat is my favorite. Hershey s is one chocolate that I can eat and it changes my whole mood. Their mission statement is, Bringing sweet moments of Hershey happiness to the world every day. 1 Hershey s focuses on love, and not only chocolate. History of the Company 1894 is when it all started. This is when Milton Hershey had just established the company. He was producing sweet chocolate as a coating for his caramels. 1894 was a great year for him because this is also when he started developing his own formula for milk chocolate. In 1907, the company began producing individually hand wrapped conical milk chocolate candies named Hershey s Kisses Chocolate. 1921 is when machine wrapping was introduced. In 1963, The H.B. Reese Candy Company was purchased by the Hershey Chocolate Corporation. In Between the years of 1925 and 1939, Mr. Good bar, Hershey s Syrup, Crackle Bar, and Hershey s Miniatures were introduced. Hoover Performance Budgeting Performance based budgeting refers to the approach of allocating funds that link measured results with policy decisions. It focuses on results and outcomes of programs rather than on the cost of inputs. It facilitates greater and more scientific accountability for outcomes. Fund allocation is prioritised based on a program s ability to achieve goals. The Hoover Commission made the following observations for performance budgeting while recommending overhaul of the nation s budget process: Under performance budgeting, government departments and agencies would prepare budgets according to their major functions, activities and projects [8] focusing on the impact of the activity or service instead of things to be acquired [8] These budget reforms aimed to provide holistic information about programs and activities based on measurement of ultimate impact of outcomes through parameters that measured effectiveness and efficiency of operations. Thus the question of optimal utilization of resources and whether the government is allocating them accordingly was to be addressed by this reform. The Commission recommendations on performance budgeting requirements (HPB) were implemented through two legislations: The National Security Act Amendments (1949) and the Budgeting and Accounting Procedures Act (BAPA), 1950 that prescribed a less prescriptive definition of performance budgeting that instituted country wide adoption of this budget technique. Utilization of ocean resources for power generation such as tidal, thermal solar and wind for energy, along with other green technologies like seaweed farming and sustainable fisheries for food would need to be incorporated in a broad framework for the region. Development of ocean based energy systems can be integrated with early warning networks linked by satellite which can give a few hours to days warning to help mitigate the severity of natural disasters on human life. . Some of the calamities of note have been the Tsunami of 2004, Bangladesh and Orissa floods, earthquakes in Nepal and Pakistan, and recent inundation of Chennai due to weather and bad flood management. A SAARC comprehensive Framework on disaster management was formulated in alignment with the Hyogo Framework (2005 2015). In addition to the broad objectives of disaster management and cooperation in the Indian Ocean and surrounding regions, impeding disasters due to climate change need to be anticipated. • 5. The Poetry Of Pablo Neruda Ricardo Eliécer Neftalí Reyes Basoalto, also known as Pablo Neruda was born on July 12, 1904 in a small town in Chile. Neruda s mother died shortly after his birth, leaving him in the care of his father. Neruda began to write at the age of ten. Gabriela Mistral, who would later become a Nobel Prize winner, recognized Neruda s talents by giving him books and encouragement he did not have at home. In his early teen years, he began to publish his writings under the name of what we know as Pablo Neruda in memory of the Czechoslovak poet, Jan Neruda, but also to avoid his father s disapproval of Neruda s interests in literature. Because of Garcia Lorca s death, Neruda joined the Republican movement, starting off in Spain then in France, Neruda worked on a collection of poems called España en el Corazón, or, Spain in our Hearts. When these poems were written, Neruda seemed to be in a very difficult place and it seemed like he would be for a very long time. For example, his poem, Cursed states, Bring, bring the lamp, see the soaked earth, see the blackened little bone eaten by the flames, the garment of murdered Spain. Just by that excerpt, you can tell that the tone of this poem is very dark. In fact, the majority of Neruda s poems in this book seemed as if they all had the same tone; gloomy and pessimistic. His poems reflected this tone from the 1940 s and onward, showing the political struggle in South America. This does show that life experiences can really affect the way that poets write. A disheartening event can lead a poet to write very depressing poems, and vice versa. Even though Neruda wrote a lot about the political struggle, he also wrote a lot of poems about love, such as, Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair. One love poem that he wrote, Your Laughter, was intriguing. The poem reveals how the person in the poem is obviously struggling in life. But, the laughter of their significant other s motivates them to keep driving through whatever darkness they are going through, and keeps them happy as well. This reasonably small area has both commercial and residential land uses. However, the homes in the area developed over a period of 100 years which allowed for them to development with different architectural features with the most common being Classic Revival. This different architectural development could also be seen throughout the business district. Intriguing ideas held within the historic value of the Oregon Historical District are the ideas of preservation and protection. Instead of requiring its residents to rehabilitate the homes to original status the requirements are that the home look authentic and have the appeal of authenticity. The aesthetic nature of the homes should be less museum like and more home like with the intention of preserving the architectural character of the past. In 1975, the Oregon Historical District ratified a Constitution with the most recent amendment in 2014. This was tested by producing an afterimage in people of various ages to find when they became fatigued to the color green. This result showed that people that were older often had their photoreceptors fatigue faster and have their afterimage last longer. This may be connected to the fact that the amount of cells atrophy with age. Further test may be needed to tell what causes the sudden increase in fatigue at an older age. Introduction The eye is a very important organ because it allows us to not just see something, but to also see them in colors. Vision is created when light passes through the cornea, and reflected by lens until it hits the retina in the back of the eye. On the retina are two types of light absorbing cells. These two types are rods and cones cells. Cone cells are used for color vision while rods are used to see in black and white. The cone cells can pick up 3 basic colors; red, green, and blue. When they pick up light, photosensitive chemicals in the outer part of a cell release a electrical charge, allowing the brain to precieve the light as color. They use different groupings of these colors ... Plato s idea of reality can be explained through his doctrine of ideas. He argues the point through a dialogue argument between Socrates and his friends. Socrates thinks that there are two kinds of existences; firstly, the visible world that we perceive with our senses, which is human, mortal, composite, unintelligible, and always changing. Secondly, the invisible world of Forms that we can access solely with our minds, which is divine, deathless, intelligible, non composite, and always the same (78c 79a, 80b). Socrates also pointed out that if this was not the case, very soon all of the world would be dead. That is to say, if all living things ends up dead, but new living things were not made from those that had died, the number of dead would very soon supersede and overwhelm the number of the living, and everything would ultimately be dead. The Development Of The Pair Bond In our culture the relationship most often discussed when describing human interaction and that which is considered the most ideal or normal relationship (demonstrated by cultural morality and various forms of media) is that of the male female couple. This pair bonding is a phenomenon that exists to some degree in the natural world, but occurs most prominently in humans. The development of the pair bond is one of the single most important aspects of human evolution, culture, and relationships as we understand them today. This behavior has driven human sociality, reproduction, and cultural development through evolutionary, physiological, and psychological means. By understanding and assessing the history and evolution of pair bonding, the means by which our cultural foundations were established can be discovered. To determine how the pair bond has been established, one must look at the various evolutionary pressures that lead to this type of behavior. Champ State College of Florida Intro to Criminology CCJ 2010 Professor George Ackerman Barry Puett January 26, 2015 Abstract When we hear the phrase, sex offender, we normally feel repulsed. We think of dirty old creepy men. I for one used to do this, I won t lie. This is because people like to rush to judgment. But my opinions changed when I came to the realization that it s not just creepy old men who are sex offenders. I want to talk about them, but not those who are serial rapists or child molesters; they don t deserve to be talked about. I m talking about people who are convicted, whether it s falsely, or unjustly, and have to wear a stamp on their forehead for the rest of their lives saying they are a sex offender. I have an uncle named Michael and he s 29; he ll be 31 in October. In 2006 in Fredericksburg, Virginia, he was convicted of rape. A young woman lied and said he raped her, and now he will forever be scarred. In many rape cases, the defense will say that the victim was fantasizing the rape or is lying, but sometimes she really is lying (Siegel, 1995, p. 304). Virginia has a two tier system for sex offenders, violent and non violent. Even though Michaels charge was for the rape of an adult, he is still considered a violent sexual predator, forever. This means he can t go to McDonalds, he can t go to see his nieces and nephews, and he couldn t even go to my high school graduation two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In recent times, scientists have discovered and added a third domain of life, known as, Archaea. These three taxons exist together to make up the microbial world that we live in. All three domains can be found freely all over the earth. Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes are usually more common, with Archaea being extremely rare. • 26. The Importance Of Learning And Its Effects On Human Behavior An individual will know things and will be able to perform different types of behaviours. Where these behaviours come from however, depends on many things. Some things are innate therefore, one can be born with the knowledge. Learning is a process that plays a part in determining behaviour. Learning can thereby be defined as a comparatively permanent difference in behaviour and knowledge that comes from experience or training. However, other forms of learning must be acquired actively. Thus, any knowledge or behaviour that one may have without being born with, was somehow learned . Various methods of learning have been examined through different methods such as from experimenting on the salivation level of dogs, to examining how one ties their shoelace. Conditioning on the other hand, although relatively similar to learning, is not the same as learning. It can be defined as a behavioural process whereby a response will become more frequent and more predictable in any given environment at any period of time as a result of reinforcement, while the reinforcement is usually a stimulus that is a compensation for an aspired response. A form of mental and physical behaviour that relates to learning is addiction. Addiction can be defined as an irresistible craving on a behaviour or substance whereby one will either be able unable to stop the addiction, or continue to crave it. • 30. Human Culture Exploded With The Invention Of Agriculture Human culture exploded with the invention of agriculture approximately 10,000 years ago in the Fertile Crescent. For the first time, instead of being largely nomadic, following herds of game animals through their migrations, humanity could settle down into permanent settlements. For the first time since the dawn of man, not every waking hour revolved around food. Man finally had a large amount of leisure time, and energy to spare. This energy went into the creation of vast cities and temples, great public works of art and engineering marvels. Less than 500 years after wheat and barley were first grown by humans, we were brewing the first beers, and it was only up from there (O Neil). In the blink of an eye, empires rose and fell again and again: Babylon, Egypt, Rome, Greece, and countless more. As these empires grew, they spread out. This spreading out increased trade and globalization in ways never before heard of. Continents no longer connected by land became connected by people. Ships were sent off to distant lands and returned with new plants and animals, many of which became the first invasive species. With no natural predators in their new environment, these newcomers could quickly destabilize an ecosystem, and they often did. Muscles clinging to the hulls of ships could become detached in foreign ports and establish a foothold on the ocean floor, quickly decimating the native marine flora and fauna. • 40. Isolation In Me Before You, By Sylvia Plath And The Bell Jar The novel The Bell Jar written by Sylvia Plath and the film Me Before You directed by Thea Sharrock both explore the idea of isolation. Both the author and director use various techniques in their texts to position the audience to understand that isolation makes a person withdraw from life and therefore leads to their downfall. Techniques such as symbolism, motif, imagery, simile and visual and literary techniques allow the author and director to deliver the message. Plath and Sharrock actively portray that while being remote and withdrawn from life one cannot develop growth skills to overcome struggles through the use of symbolism, while Plath further raises this through implementing a motif. Both the author and director use symbolism to show the audience that both characters become isolated. Plath utilised the bell jar to symbolise that Esther is gripped by the insanity in her mind that is inescapable, compelling her to disengage from those around her and causes her loneliness. Plath explored this further [VB1] as Esther became isolated through her mental breakdowns as during these periods she did not want to get out of bed as the air of the bell jar wadded around her. She would be sitting alienated under the same glass bell jar, stewing in my own sour air. Demonstrating to the audience that although Esther can view the world, her perspective is distorted as the glass jar prevents her from realistically perceiving life and the society [VB2] around her. Ultimately, this begins to cause Esther s mental stability to diminish as she feels as though she does not belong in the world. Positioning the audience to understand that Esther has struggled to find herself through her battle and therefore becomes paralysed within her body. Plath further conveys this message as Esther felt that the world itself is the bad dream illustrating to the audience that she is living in a constant nightmare of her life and is unable to forget her past. Consequently it is the world that ostracises her, controlling her and her emotions. Sharrock also highlighted the same message through utilising[VB3] Will s wheelchair, symbolising his restrictions which induced his seclusion from the world due to his confinement in a ... Since the inception of this country, the concept of the American Dream has been driven forward by men and women who believe that they can be as successful as they desire if they only roll up their sleeves, take charge of their lives, and work hard to accomplish their goals. Indeed, it was this idea that brought many foreigners to settle in this country in the first place. Shuttlesworth used the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights (ACMHR) to sue the city of Birmingham when they refused to hire black police officers. Shuttlesworth and the ACMHR eventually went on to attack and challenge all of Birmingham s segregation laws. This led to the first attempt on his life when unknown persons blew up his house. His life was threatened, but his courage stood fast. The very next day Shuttlesworth led a group of people that attempted to integrate Birmingham s buses. Shuttlesworth s crusade to end segregation grew even stronger when he helped cofound the Southern Leadership Conference on Transportation and Nonviolent Integration. He wasn t the only great leader at this conference; both Martin Luther King Jr. and Bayard Rustin were present as well, earning the nickname the Big Three. It was here where the commitment to a non violent civil rights movement was reinforced. Shortly after the conference concluded Shuttlesworth attempted to enroll his children in an all white school in Birmingham. With no police in sight, Shuttlesworth was beat to within an inch of his life and his wife was stabbed. Shuttlesworth had somehow survived a second attempt on his life. • 46. The Great House The Great House, the largest prehistoric native American structure in North America, is a four story building constructed by ancient Sonoran Desert people, the Hohokam. The Hohokam were native American tribes that vanished in the 1400 s leaving behind archaeological evidence of a sophisticated culture, revealing advanced canal systems, and the Casa Grande, a big house in the Sonoran Desert valley. Missionary, explorer and mapmaker Eusibio Francisco Kino, was the first European to discover the site in 1694 and named it Casa Grande . After the railroad came through in 1879, travelers would scratch their names into the walls, some took artifacts, even pieces of the wall were taken as souvenirs. In 1889, Congress voted to take action to protect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Hohokam managed to thrive for more than 1000 years in the arid climate of the Sonoran Desert, carving irrigation canals throughout the landscape to support an agricultural environment, bringing life to the dry desert.(Leonard, 2007) The Hohokam were masters of the desert. Their canals became the foundation of the modern canals used to irrigate crops along the Salt and Gila rivers. This farming community which now lies in Coolidge Arizona became a place where they eventually would build the Great House and many other structures and mounds around the Great House. The Great House was designed with holes in the walls that align with the sun and the moon to mark important events in time. Twice a year sunlight would pass through a pair of holes located in opposite walls of the uppermost room of the Great House marking the Vernal and Autumnal equinoxes. These events would mark the midpoint positions of the sun as it moves along its North South path. The holes were an alignment system that helped the Hohokam keep track of time. ( Views of the National Parks, n.d.) Public architectures included ballcourts, platform mounds, cemeteries, and trash disposal areas. The Great house was built with over 3,000 tons of caliche to make the multi story structure that contained eleven rooms. Surplus crops were stored in lower rooms. Eventually for reasons unknown the Hohokam would vanish leaving behind valuable evidence of their ancient desert culture. As we study these ancient people, we are reminded how critical water, food and shelter are for survival in the desert, and we begin to understand the delicate balance between consuming and protecting our natural resources. ( Views of the National Parks, n.d.) Researchers can not tell exactly what the purpose of the Great house was, but it must have been of good importance that would require the whole community to help build as the had no machinery or animals ... British mercantile policy hampered American hemp culture for a time during and after the colonial period by offering heavy bounties on hemp exported from Ireland; but the American plantings continued despite this subsidized competition. At various times in the nineteenth century large hemp plantations flourished in Mississippi, Georgia, California, South Carolina, Nebraska, and other states, as well as on Staten Island, New York. The center of nineteenth century production, however, was in Kentucky, where hemp was introduced in 1775. One Kentuckian, James L. Allen, wrote in 1900: The Anglo Saxon farmers had scarce conquered foothold in the Western wilderness before they became sowers of hemp. The roads of Kentucky . . . were early made necessary by the hauling of hemp. For the sake of it slaves were perpetually being trained, hired, bartered; lands perpetually rented and sold; fortunes made and lost.... With the Civil War began the decline, lasting still. The invention of the cotton gin and of other cotton and wool machinery, and competition from cheap imported hemp, were major factors in this decline ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Police Agencies Implement Community Policing, And Problem... Introduction Do Canadian police agencies implement community policing, and problem oriented policing? and if so do they work? In this paper, this paper will examine the two different styles of policing in a contemporary society. Community policing where the main emphasis is that the police and the community work together on issues, and problem oriented policing where the police try and understand specific issues within the community. It will also examine several examples of different policing agencies in Canada, and what they implement for community policing, and problem oriented policing programs, and most importantly are they community policing, or problem oriented? Like many thing in life there are always critics of different ideas, so it will also examine the criticism on both of these policing styles. Policing in a Contemporary Society Problem Oriented Policing Problem oriented policing is the method in which police agencies focus their attention to the reasons of why crimes are committed, and the complaints of crimes from the public, with the focus on trying to better understand them (Goff, 2016). Problem oriented policing was developed by Herman Goldstein in 1979, he described it as a change in the way in which police function (Goff, 2016). Goff also stated the main premise is that crime needed to be studied, the police did not have the true understanding of the underlying cause of crime, it was also stated that if they did not do this there would be a greater ...
