Ethical Dilemma Of Mandatory Vaccinations
Introduction
The classic essay Tragedy of the Commons describes the dilemma society faces when the interests of
a group conflicts with the interests of individuals (Hardin, 1968). The example presented is that of a
group of cattle ranchers commingling their cattle in a common pasture. At full capacity, each cattle
owner still has an incentive to include additional cattle, since the slight decrease in overall yield per
animal is offset by the additional animal. Unfortunately, this overgrazing inevitably leads to failure of
the commons. The community goal of maximizing food production can only be achieved by placing
controls on the interests of the individual cattle ranchers in favor of those of the community (Hardin,
1968). This paper is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is called an immune response. Vaccination is an attempt to manipulate the immune system to
provide protection from disease caused by a pathogen without subjecting the person to the actual
disease. The cowpox virus was sufficiently similar to the smallpox virus that if an individual were
exposed to cowpox, the person would develop antibodies that would subsequently attack and disable
the smallpox virus. This basic principle discovered by Jenner over two hundred and fifty years ago is
used today to develop the dozens of vaccines we take for granted.
What Is Herd Immunity?
The term herd immunity first appeared in a paper published in 1923, entitled The Spread Of Bacterial
Infection The Problem Of Herd Immunity (Topley Wilson, 1923). Herd immunity refers to the
protection of populations from infection, which is brought about by the presence of immune
individuals (Anderson May, 1985). Herd immunity occurs when the proportion of people in a
population that has immunity to a pathogen is so high, the pathogen cannot find enough susceptible
hosts to infect and consequently can no longer survive (Coico Sunshine, 2015).
For example, if only 50% of a population has immunity to pathogen X, the chances of an infected
person coming in contact with a susceptible person to pass along pathogen X, is one in two. On the
other hand, if 90% of

Radio Energy Research Paper
This section summarizes the pioneer works already done in the field of radio frequency energy
harvesting. This chapter all the research paper are appraised briefly. Literature survey provide
information about history, present scenario of research and latest advancement in microstrip
technology. 1. In this paper, authors conducted a survey of RF power density in urban environment in
order to design a rectenna for harvesting ambient RF energy from free space. Although, RF energy
spread out in free space have very low power density levels of 36nW/cm2 at GSM 900 (BTx) and
84nW/cm2 at GSM 1800(BTx) which is a three times the MTx power therefore only power density of

A prototype of proposed dipole antenna is fabricated and tested to validate the simulation results. The
proposed antenna is integrated with a Villard voltage doubler circuit using an impedance matching
network and the output voltage and efficiency are monitored. The overall design of proposed RF
harvesting circuit is accomplished by using the Agilent ADS and achieve maximum efficiency of
46.82%[10] . 4. In this paper, they have developed a dual frequency printed dipole rectenna for the
wireless power transmission at 2.45 5.8 GHz. For operating at dual band, a novel uniplanar printed
dipole antenna is created using a coupling method. In this combination of low pass filter and bandstop
filters effectively blocked the higher order harmonic re radiations [11]. 5. In this project a printed
dipole antenna is being designed. Printed dipole antennas are of use, when an electronic circuit is
implemented on a printed circuit board (PCB) and is in need of a simple and low cost compact
antenna. These antennas has a fairly isotropic pattern, which makes it a good transmitter as well as
receiver for portable devices, in this paper they have modified a US patent design owned by Motorola.
The original design was for a portable pager device operating in the 900 MHz band. For this design
the dipole with their design equations are discussed, but as suggested by the patent , it was slightly
remodelled and adopted to the 400 MHz band. The antenna was built

Oedipus Moral Dilemmas
Moral Dilemmas Portrayed in World Literature For there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking
makes it so (Shakespeare 688). For centuries, authors, poets and philosophers have used their writings
to convey to their readers a code of conduct for life regardless of their religion, race, gender and
cultural background. Literature is full of epic vices that are either from a particular era, religion or a
setting which makes them specific and relatable only for specific populations. Every religion has its
own checklist of sin and virtue. However, the clear distinction between right and wrong is boundless
and timeless in every era, religion or culture. The concept of morality is portrayed in ancient and
medieval literature and the moral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, one of the major moral lessons conveyed by this play is that relating to hubris, meaning
excessive pride. His pride was based on two things; his wisdom and his kingship. He believed he
knew what a common man did not since he was the one to solve the riddle of the Sphinx. His
excessive pride and blind arrogance can especially be witnessed where he gets furious over the blind
prophet Tiresias who personifies truth in the play. When Tiresias indirectly calls Oedipus a desperate
fool to be living a life of sin and ignorance, Oedipus explodes with rage and ridicules the prophet for
his blindness and replies boastfully that When the Sphinx who barked black songs was hounding us
why didn t you speak up and free the city? Her riddle wasn t the sort just anyone who happened by

so blinded by his intellect and power that he tried to ignore the truth by blaming others to be envious
of his wealth and power. According to him Wealth and a king s power, the skill that wins every time

Mary Seacole
Nurse and Entrepreneur
Mother Teresa once said It is not how much we do it is how much love we put into the doing. In order
to be a good nurse, you have to have as much personality as the knowledge you possess. Mary Seacole
lived in the 19th century and was interested in medicine since she was a little girl. She was also a
businesswoman who moved to many places including Kingston, Panama, and London. Seacole
created the British Hotel, persisted to innovate ways to overcome being rejected because of her color,

The Murder Mystery By Edgar Allan Poe
In the year of 1809, Edgar Poe was born. When he was two, his dad abandoned him and his mom
died, so he was raised as an orphan from that point on. Poe spent five years in England, where he
attended boarding school. He moved to Richmond and spent most of his time learning Latin and
French at the University of Virginia. Because of his gambling problems, his foster parents stopped
supporting him. At the age of eighteen, Poe moved to Boston and wrote his first bundle of poems.
From the year 1832 to 1836, Poe spent his time with his aunt, Maria and cousin, Virginia Clemm, in
Baltimore. During this time, Poe began writing and selling poems to journals in Baltimore and
Philadelphia. At the age of 26, Poe became the editor for the Southern Literary Messenger in
Richmond. A year later, he married his cousin, Virginia Clemm. They formed a home in Philadelphia
and Poe appreciated most of these years because of his productivity. In 1847, Poe s wife, Virginia,
died of tuberculosis, and Poe was devastated. Two years later, at the age of forty, Poe died of acute

My Grandpam My Grandma
Saturday mornings was our time or more like my time to debrief. The trees hovered over us, along
with the identical apartment buildings across the street. Children played games on the sidewalk
without a care in the world. Music played out loud from a neighbor s window, and an ambulance
wailed in the distance. Men strolled around, and cigarette aroma filled the air. There, outside of her
apartment complex, on the concrete steps we talked. Talking to my grandma was my safe place where
I could speak freely. She would make things make it easier with her advice or sometimes just listen.
Although she couldn t relate to many of my issues, she never failed at giving the best advice.
When my grandma was diagnosed with cancer we knew our time left with her was limited. This was
the first time I had to deal with cancer first hand. You always hear about it on the television, in the
news, and from people but never imagine it would someone you are close to. Once we found out the
news she was already at stage 4 of esophogeal cancer. She had been battling with it for months but
kept it a secret so we wouldn t worry about her. Grandma was the type of women that liked to do
things on her own even if it took double the amount of time. Family is everything she would
constantly remind us. Grandma did whatever it took to keep us all close and happy. She was a
stubborn, independently lady who refused to ask for help which explains why she didn t tell us sooner.

Index numbers are statistical measures designed to show changes in a variable or group of related
variables with respect to time, geographic location or other characteristics such as income, profession,
etc. A collection of index numbers for different years, locations, etc., is sometimes called an index
series. A simple index number is a number that measures a relative change in a single variable with
respect to a base. A composite index number is a number that measures an average relative changes in
a group of relative variables with respect to a base.

The Iraq War Necessary
The Iraq war is necessary because it is helping the world be a better place. By making Iraq less of a
threat it allows people to have the peace of mind that they are safe in the world they live in. In an
already chaotic world where good is hard to find, we do not need another thing to worry about. We
don t need another thing to worry about. Saddam Hussein made a lot of people worry about things that
they should not. He made people in the country he ruled feel unsafe. When you make people feel
unsafe in their own country that is when you have a problem. The Iraqi war is necessary because

If someone made Saddam Hussein mad he would just kill them because he could. That is a horrible
way to rule a country and a good reason to intervene into the affairs of Saddam Hussein and Iraq as a
whole. Hussein ordered the death of 148 Shiite men and boys(List of Saddam s). Shitte is a religion
like Islam, but instead of believing Mohammed is their god they believe Ali is their god. Ali is the
cousin of Mohammed. Ordering someone to death just because their religion is horrible. It is even
worse that he ordered the death of boys who believed in the god Ali as well. Saddam Hussein ruled for
twenty four years. In his time ruling there has been 250 mass graves found(List of Saddam s). Saddam
Hussein was a cold blooded murder and he even murdered other political power in the middle
east(List of Saddam s). In 1999 Hussein killed a Shiite priest. There was an uprising from Shiite
people in Baghdad. Saddam Hussein killed many people who tried to rebel. They rebelled because he
killed a big figure in their community. Many people would rebel if there was injustice. It happens now
today. One example of people rebelling or starting an uprising is because of police brutality. Saddam

Character Analysis Of Stronger
The story of Beth Elliott s life in the movie, Stronger, is a heart wrenching tale of an incredibly
talented musician with deep seated issues of depression. The movie s title was taken from her first hit
song she wrote and recorded. Elliott s life from the very start was surrounded in music. In the
beginning of the film she is shown at the age of two, giggling and happily performing songs she had
made up to entertain her family during a long car ride. As both her parents were musically inclined, it
is no wonder she possessed such a natural talent and love for music. Throughout the film, Elliott is
portrayed as having two entirely different personas. An extrovert in public and a introvert in private,
she at one point refers to herself as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an unexpected turn of events, after graduation, Elliott decides to return to her first love, performing
music. She had already been writing songs and performing in bars and clubs during the last few years
of college. Upon graduating, with determined focus and in what seems like a brush with fate, becomes
a well known and successful singer at age forty. In one scene, after an exceptionally magnificent
performance with her blues rock band, joyful emotions run high. On stage, Elliott leads her audience
to believe that her lyrics in her famous song Stronger, God I just want to be set free, from this black
dog that chains me are an uplifting expression of resilience after courageously finding her own way
after divorce. In fact, many fans repeatedly shower her with compliments of how much this song
reflects their own struggles. Suddenly, the film cuts from bright lights and stardom to a dark and
lonely room, thick with desolation. In those moments of solitude, it is clear that she wrote these words
not about her resilience, but instead encompassing her own lifelong struggle with depression. Even
through the realization of her childhood dream of becoming a famous singer, she still has not found
peace within. Whether surrounded by fans or alone in a room, there is a constant loneliness and
feeling of separation. The repetitive words spoken from everyone surrounding

Geoffrey Chaucer Thesis Statement
Thesis Statement: Geoffrey Chaucer was one of the most influential writers of the
Medieval times.
Geoffrey was born in the early 1340 s and he died in 1400.
Geoffrey Chaucer was born later than 1340, but probably earlier than 1345. There aren t any records
on his actual date of birth (Theodore 1). Geoffrey Chaucer s family name was deprived from the
French Chaussier which implies that his family were shoemakers at one time. His father and
grandfather were wine merchants, so they were both successful and rising men (Theodore 7). Chaucer
died in 1400 on October 25th. He passed away of unknown causes in London, England. Chaucer was

Philippa had worked for Constance of Castile, John of Gaunt s second wife (Encyclopedia.com).
Chaucer and Philippa are usually credited with two sons and perhaps a daughter, Elizabeth Chacy
(Morrison 12). Chaucer received a yearly salary of ten pounds. Ten pounds was about the normal
income for a squire in an aristocratic or distinguished household. The city of London granted them a
home above Aldgate when he became Controller of Customs (Notablebiographies.com). Some
wardships in 1375 brought Chaucer a little over 175 pounds. He and Phillipa were financially secure
(Encyclopedia.com). None of Chaucer s poetry is addressed to Philippa, so it is assumed that they had
an arranged marriage. Almost none of Chaucer s work was complimentary towards marriage
(Historylearningsite.co.uk). When Philippa passed away in 1387 Chaucer stopped sharing her
earnings. Chaucer suffered from financial hardship and he would have to keep working in public
service to earn a living. He stayed in his work to help pay off his growing collection of

Accreditation Audit Task 1
1. Compliance Status
Following rules and regulations is important for institutions and any type of establishment to maintain
organization and most importantly provide safety for those involved. For the organization and safety
of everyone involved, it is important to comply with particular criteria.
Hospitals are one of the many organizations that must comply with regulations to keep patients and
staff safe and as well as maintain the quality of care. Ideally, a good care system for patients includes
medical professionals as well as friends and family to compliment each other in providing for patient
needs. Because patients require care from medical professions in hospitals, there are provisions that
the hospital must follow. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, documenting the completion of a time out is met by the Universal Protocol Policy but also
has the added benefit of being stated in the Pre procedure handout. Upon conduction the accreditation

sure they are being met.
The final standard under communication is the performance of a time out before a procedure. There
are also elements of performance that must be met to be in compliance for this standard. The first is
conducting a time out before every procedure. This is met by the Universal Protocol Policy. The
Universal Protocol Policy also meets the next bullet point of standardizing time out for Nightingale
Hospital and having them started by an elected team member with the involvement of team members.
The third element of performance is performing a time out between a change of people performing a
procedure on a patient. This is unfortunately not met by any protocol in the information provided by
Nightingale Hospital. Having team members agree the correct patient identity, the correct site, and the
correct procedure to be done on a patient is the next element of performance. The final element of
performance is the documentation of time outs . Though there are no policies bases on the information

The Vampires Are Now A Metaphor Of Human Beings
As one of the most attractive and enduring figures in the Gothic literature, the vampires have moved
from being a peripheral element with the genre to a place near the center and are capable of generating
its own massive tradition now. In the recent literary history, they have already been adapted to play a
role of a rebel against the moral, social, religious, and even sexual taboos. Put simply, the vampires
are now a metaphor of human beings in the modern society and life.
With the publication and popularity of The Vampire Chronicles, especially that of Interview with the
Vampire, Anne Rice innovates the Gothic tradition in the western literature successfully, for
comparatively speaking, the vampires in her novels are more sympathetic and humanized than the
terrible and emotionless monsters before. As it is said by both Jan Gordon and Veronica Hollinger, the
vampires also stand for some border anxieties, since they penetrate boundaries by their own special
and complicated nature, that is to say, between life and death, between love and fear, between power
and persecution. Furthermore, sensitive to the social issues very much, Anne Rice expresses the
sentimental feelings of the vampires in great detail and by exquisite words and describes vividly the
existing state of the outsiders of the modern times as well. Therefore, in the case of Interview with the
Vampire, there is a quite highly rational and philosophical probe into the life and the existence of
human beings.

Guy De Maupassant Envy
Being envious is a part of being human. Some people are more envious than others, some people only
felt envy a couple times in their life. Still we all feel it and we shouldn t strengthen our envy. Mathilde
Loisel did, she did nothing to stop herself from being so envious. ...she was unhappy as if she had
really fallen from a higher station;... (pg. 1). The author, Guy de Maupassant, developed her selfish
and envious character through her personality, her actions, and her dialogue.
First, the author develops her character through her personality. On page three it says, The day of the
ball drew near and Madame Loisel seemed sad, uneasy, anxious. Even though her husband gave her
the money he was setting aside for himself to buy her a dress, she still rather wouldn t go because she
didn t have any jewelry. She was anxious and depressed because of it. Madame Loisel also completely
ignored her husband s suggestion of putting natural flowers in her hair and the fact that they were in
style. She much prefers not to go just because she didn t have all the things she wanted.
Next, the author develops Mathilde s character through her actions. She was prettier than any other

Life Is Defined By All The Living Creatures On Earth
Life is defined by all the living creatures on earth. Biology is a broad topic of the study of life.
Biology contains many different types of subjects within it that may be studied, like terrestrial or
aquatic animals, or viruses and diseases. Here I will be talking about twelve of the millions of parts:
Characteristics of life and kingdoms, biomolecules, nature and the importance of water, cells, energy
and the carbon cycle, cell division through mitosis and meiosis, the central dogma through DNA/RNA
and proteins, genetics and inheritance, evolution, energy through food webs and food chains,
symbiotic relationships, and human impact. There are seven different characteristics of life. These
characteristics are known as organization or structure, reproduction growth and development,
adaptation, stimulus response, and evolution. After going through the list proving that the organism is
alive, the organism is set into one of three domains: bacteria, archaea, and eukaryotes. The eukarya are
known to have a nucleus and membrane bound organelles. Bacteria are characterized by having a cell
wall, by made from peptidoglycan. Archaea are characterized by having no nucleus, but having a cell
wall that isn t made from peptidoglycan. All of the eukarya are organized into different groups called
taxes or taxis (Anderson). The eight different taxis in order from biggest to smallest are domain,
kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species. For example in domain, there

The better the reputation of the president, the easier it will be to negotiate. There are people in
agencies and departments that have a huge amount of power and can have a huge force on the

questioned Neustadt stated Eisenhower s secretary of treasury George Humphrey publicly questioned
the integrity of some of Eisenhower s changes to the budget for that year of 1957. The very public
scrutiny by Humphrey, caused a national questioning of the budget and coarsely the reputation of
Eisenhower . Although Humphrey s words may not have been justified, Eisenhower s reputation was
scarred nonetheless . The president must always act and keeping in mind that there are those powerful
enough to publicly embarrass him. The last and important thing of presidential power that Neustadt
explains is public prestige. Public prestige is related to the president s reputation. Public prestige is
basically how the public views the president. Even though the public has no direct link with the
president, the public s view of the president affects how congress will act

Stochastic Model For Energy Spot Price Analysis
In this chapter, we construct stochastic model for energy spot price by using e of Ordinary Least
Square Regression Model. At this point, it is imperative to discuss seasonality, which is a commonly
observed characteristic in energy markets. In order to assess whether there is actually an underlying
pattern prevailing in the return an autocorrelation test can be easily carried out for verification. As
explained in [10], the evidence of high autocorrelation manifests an underlying seasonality. On the
contract, if the returns were independents, as assumed by the Black Scholes model, the correlation
coefficient would be very close to zero indicating insufficiently evidence for an underlying
seasonality. Here, would follow an approach where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Impact Of Media On Children s Life
Introduction Socialisation is the process an individual experiences to become a unique individual and
an active member of society. Through socialisation, individuals accept and acquire beliefs, roles,
motives, values and behaviours. The process of socialisation is influenced by many factors including:
family, school, peers, location and the media. The impact the media has on socialisation, particularly
in Western countries, is immense, as it has the ability to influence ideas, opinions, attitudes and images
to many people. The media is a macro agent in socialisation, as it presents people with ideas and
generalised views of society from beyond their micro worlds. Family is another important agent of
socialisation, as for most children, their family is responsible for their initial socialisation process.
Families have a major and long lasting effect on children s lives. The home and the family is the first
environment of learning for the child, where a child s first acquisition of knowledge, skills, attitudes
and values begins. School is another important agent of socialisation. The official purpose of school is
to teach knowledge and life skills. However, students don t just learn from the academic curriculum.
In school, we also learn skills to prepare us to become functional members of society. The focus of
this report is to compare how the agents of socialisation have changed over time. The primary research
conducted was a survey and an interview of people from varied

distance. This is known as the vanishing point. Objects on a picture plane can appear larger or smaller,
depending on the distance from the viewer. For instance, in Paris Street; Rainy Day, the architecture
towering over the horizon provides a significant indication of where the vanishing points are situated.
The lines representing the roof, mouldings, windows and balconies on the façade of the building in the
middle left of the painting recede diagonally towards the horizon. If these lines visibly extended
further, they would converge at two points on either side of the building along the horizon. More
specifically, these vanishing points would be located by the umbrella on the left and just to the right of
the lamp post along the horizon. Whether there are one, two, or three, vanishing points enable one to
recreate a perceived point of view with form and depth in space. Perspective is a fundamental
component of producing realistic landscapes, still lifes, portraits, etc. As demonstrated through the

Opening Scene of the Film Gladiator The opening scene in any film is important as it introduces the

The Rights Of Habeas Corpus
The president s executive order 456 that called for the suspension of the writ of habeas corpus amid
intense political instability was necessary. In order to give legal advice with substance to Her
Excellency President Dove, the counsel remained very objective and impartial on her actions within
the period of time the civil war lasted. The counsel is reviewing Madame Dove s actions on three
folds, 1, is her action to wage war constitutional? 2, is her action violate the constitution check and
balances of powers? 3 is her action completely unconstitutional? These are the questions we will be
answering with the fact patterns available. According to the United States constitution Art I sec 9 cl 2
the privilege of habeas corpus shall not be suspended unless when cases of rebellion or invasion the
public safety may require it. Habeas Corpus allows detainee to question the reason for their
detainment. Habeas insures that the defendant isn t arbitrarily imprisoned by the government and that
they can exhaust all legal means possible to fight the accusation. Unfortunately, habeas has been
suspended numerous times throughout the United States history, most notably during the Civil War of
1861, President Lincoln suspended the writ of habeas corpus. While at this contemporary time
President Bush has also suspended habeas corpus under the Military Commissions Act of 2006. The
suspension of habeas corpus means that anyone that the government wants to arrest it can do so,

The Main Goal Of An Artist
Similar to all great writers and innovators, the main goal of an artist is to spark a creative perspective
in the audience. Sarah Ruhl s oddly blunt play, Eurydice, was meant to open up our minds and create
an outlook that has never been achieved before. Her intent was to keep us on our toes and read
between the lines in order to find the hidden truths in each line. The simplicity of the script was meant
to be a little strange and dull, but by doing this Ruhl entered a realm of playwriting that has not been
accomplished before. Usually, in the performances we watch we are bombarded with long, complex
sentences that leave the audience confused. The vocabulary used is always either outdated or too
complicated for many people to understand quickly. However, in this place Ruhl took the opposite
approach and chose short and simple sentences, leaving more room for interpretation. By making each
line somewhat awkward and dull, Ruhl engages the audiences attention in order to make sense of the
words. Many factors could have motivated Ruhl to write her play in such fashion. For example, when
I was reading the play I connected her style of writing to artists and poets of the 1960 s, like Bob
Dylan and Jim Morrison, who had such a beautiful yet simple play on words. Her outlandish sentences
probably made no sense to someone with a closed mind, this related directly to how the Dylan and
Morrison were perceived in their time as well. Many people didn t understand or allow

In Venezuela a man called Leopoldo Lopez is a living example of the validity Dr. King s values have

Nicolas Maduro through pacific demonstrations on the street all over the country.
Venezuelans response to Lopez s call was tremendous and thousands of people went out to the streets
to reestablish the democracy and the dignity of a country where toilet paper, milk, diapers and other
basic goods are a privilege. Maduro s forces tried to silent the people by using violence. The final
results were 43 demonstrators dead, thousands injured and around 1500 arrested including Lopez.
But Lopez arrest was not a normal one. After the first demonstration in Caracas, the government
issued an order to detain Lopez. It was not the first time the party in power tried to silent Lopez, he
has been a victim of multiple accusations including an order to restrict his right to be elected in any

Drosophila Melanogaster Linkage And Inheritance Essay
Drosophila melanogaster, Linkage Inheritance
Peggy Chang 999349986
BIOC15 Peter, PRA002
University of Toronto Scarborough
Abstract
This experiment studied Mendel s law of independent assortment through observing three generations
of Drosophila melanogaster. His law was examined by looking at the inheritance patterns that
predicted genetic linkage, mapping distances and interference. Genes are located along chromosomes
and the distances between them vary. During recombination, these genes may become unlinked. The
frequency to which this occurs relies on the recombination frequency, in which a greater value
represents a greater distance between two loci. By looking at inheritance patterns and recombination
frequencies, this experiment showed that white eyes, short wings and forked bristles are X linked
traits. As well, dumpy wings and brown eyes are autosomal traits. The expected ratio of a dihybrid
cross of 9:3:3:1, was used to determine linkage between two loci. This was then verified using a chi
square test. Through analysis of our results, linkage existed between white eyes and short wings, as
well as between short wings and forked bristles. Linkage was also found for the strains that had
dumpy wings and brown eyes.

Taking a Look at Cervical Spondylodiscitis
Conclusion
Cervical spondylodiscitis is a rare and serious illness that can arise from various causes, such as
pyogenic infections, iatrogenic infections and complications after swallowing foreign bodies. No cases
of cervical spondylodiscitis caused by a penetrating neck injury have been published in the literature.
It is difficult to treat patients with penetrating neck injuries (induced by stab wound, gunshot wound or
by accidents) in the emergency department. Diagnostic and treatment options depend on the
cardiopulmonary condition of the patient.
In a patient who presents unstable hemodynamic conditions, prompt surgical neck exploration is
necessary. The optimal surgical approach depends on the anatomical zone of the injury. Most injuries
can be reached through an anterior sternocleidomastoid incision. Sometimes, a median sternotomy,
supraclavicular incision, transverse cervical collar incision or manipulations of the mandible are
necessary to reach the origin of the vessel injury (11).
For patients in stable condition with a suspected vessel injury, computed tomographic angiography
(CTA) is recommended to detect the direct and indirect signs of vessel injury. A CT scan could
decrease the likelihood of a negative neck exploration (13, 14). Nevertheless, Gonzalez et al showed
in a prospective study that not all vessel injuries and esophageal injuries due to penetrating zone II
injuries could be detected using a dynamic CT scan or esophagography (15).

The Scream
In this essay I will be analyzing two works of art using aesthetics as a basis of judgment. Also I will be
examining and critiquing these two great works of art. Furthermore, I will be using the four part
process of the method in critiquing artwork which is understood to be describing, analyzing,
interpreting, and evaluating. The works of art I have chosen to like is The Scream by Edvard Munch.
According to Khan Academy Munch created four forms of this art work, the first was created in 1893
painting in oil, tempera and pastel on cardboard. The second and third in 1893 and 1895 both in
pastels and last 1910 was done in tempera. The piece I will be writing about is located at The National

The shapes and forms are unnatural and the whole painting is filled with disturbing images of
deformed women. Moreover, the uncomfortable feeling the painting makes you feel as the three
images in the center stares directly back at you. His use of that psychic line is uncanny and very
disturbing and I can t help but to feel I hate this painting. Picasso uses sharp angular shapes and forms
with the neutral color black as it appears he painted the head of the woman s image located on the top
right hand corner of the canvas where it seems he blotted and smeared paint on the canvas to represent
his meaning of deformity. Every other image is defined with geometric shape and this effect in my
view causes the painting to be unbalanced. His use of the elements and principles were ignored or not
present, he used shading that was irregular on his forms which caused the effect of confusion on where
the direction of light was coming from. Patrick Frank writes, in Artforms, Although some art
historians decry this work s negative depiction of women, viewers are challenged by the paintings
hacked out shapes and overall intensity (401). This makes my point of if a painting has no meaning or
a painting without a clear meaning to it will mostly lead to confusion and more time than not it will
lead the viewer to a feeling of

Effects Of Aging On Aging And Aging
Introduction
Also spelled as ageing, this is generally the process of becoming old. It is the in a way the opposite of
immortality. In a broader aspect, it may occur to single cells in an organism also called cellular
senescence or the population of a species, known as population ageing. This process primarily affects
human beings and fungi. In humans, it signifies the accumulation of various changes which occur over
time. The changes include physical, social and psychological changes.
Causes of aging are very uncertain. Besides, there are several factors which predispose an individual

Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity
As the power industry expands and improves the technological functionality, control, and monitoring
components used in generation, transmission, and distribution, the vulnerabilities of the power grid to
cybersecurity attacks greatly increase. Not all cybersecurity attacks are preventable, but the current
security regulation and compliance requirements set by the North American Electric Reliability
Corporation (NERC) are not adequate to prevent even the most common types of attacks. When
attacks occur, they can lead to lengthy system blackouts where the impact may range from minor

The core of this framework has five basic functions as it relates to cybersecurity: identify, protect,

regard to required compliance versus voluntary security, compliance with regulations does not ensure
security. The BES consists of both generation and transmission assets and devices, but does not
include system distribution. There are also potential risks associated with the technologies and
operations of the distribution system though, so the distribution system must be included in the

safety due to a greater potential impact than attacks on other types of BES components. For example,

However, her tragic past hasn t hindered Rowling in the slightest. In addition to publishing seven
books in the Harry Potter series, two crime novels, and several tie ins that expand the magical world
of Harry Potter, Rowling has become an active philanthropist.
It may seem odd, or even strange, for Healthy Aging to use a fantasy author as the cover for our
magazine. However, Rowling s actions are exactly why Healthy Aging chose her for this month s
cover. Rowling s determination, her resilience, and her activism are qualities every single one of us
can aspire to.
The Brightest of Her Age
Born in Yate, Glouchester to an air craft engineer and a science technician, Rowling s early life was a
happy one. She attended St. Michael s Primary school, and

How Does Sita Portrayed In Ramayana
Chapter 1
Introduction
Sita is the most controversial figure in Indian mythology. Critics are always at war while discussing
her actual character. Some regard her as a Goddess while there are many who consider her as an
oppressed woman bearing the pangs of patriarchy. As she is a mythical figure, not much proof is
available regarding her existence. It was first through the epic Ramayana by Valmiki that we received
information about her character and personality. Myths are not a reliable source as they are ambiguous
and cannot be assigned a single meaning.
You should never assign a meaning to a myth because if you assign a meaning, the mind clamps onto
just that one meaning. Then it s no longer active, because when a story is active it allows for new
beginnings all the time. Don t give meanings to anything...[for] it doesn t ever mean just one ... Show

However, Samhita Arni aims at defying such an opinion. She unleashes another perspective which is
the intermingling of first two perspectives in her graphic novel Sita s Ramayana . She believes that
Sita is a very complicated character and there is a lot more to her when observed deeply. She agrees
that Sita is victimised by the patriarchal society but she rejects the view that considers Sita as a
submissive. Her opinion does not identify Sita only as an ideal , loyal and devoted wife but she also
becomes a subversive and fiery woman as and when the situation demands. According to Samhita and
most feminists, the name Sita itself is synonymous to strength , grace , valour and sacrifice . Sita is the
very image of kindness and therefore she forgives Rama and acts as a moral bridge in a marital
relationship. She maintains a graceful bond with her husband no matter how ill matched is Rama s
thinking. She shows her subversive side when she rejects Rama at the end and plunges herself into the

Maya Angelou Measure
In the autobiography I know why the caged bird sings by Maya Angelou, Marguerite sees Mrs.
Flowers as the measure of what a human being can be. Marguerite lives with her grandmother, and
looks up to a member of her neighborhood, Mrs. Flowers. The shame Marguerite has when her
grandmother speaks to Mrs. Flowers is astronomical. One day when Marguerite luckily gets to go to
the home of Mrs. Flowers, she is given books to read and remember and to Marguerite it proved she
liked her. The measure of a human being is different for everyone and it will reflect on their actions.
Maya Angelou writes that Mrs. Flowers is the measure of what a human being can be to really
emphasize how good of a person Mrs. Flowers was and how much she looked up to her. Going
through what Maya Angelou did at such a young age battered her. Being a young woman she needed
someone to look up to, Mrs. Flowers became that person. With the charisma and manners of Mrs.
Flowers it is no wonder why she looked up to her. Now don t you look nice Mrs. Flowers made
Marguerite feel very special even with the simplest compliment. Mrs. Flowers, however isn t just a
nice person, but a wise one too. Words mean more than what is set down on paper. ... Show more

Such a person should be caring, wise, honest, the list goes on. The measure of a human being for me is
Jesus. Everything Jesus did was for the good of the whole world; he was caring, thoughtful, respectful
and honest. 1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, Do not look on his appearance or on the
height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the
outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart. We judge people on their appearance, Jesus didn
t. He took fishermen and farmers instead of the rich to be his followers. To be the measure of what a
human can be you need to be someone all people should base their lives on, in my eyes Jesus is that

Energy Of Renewable Energy Sources Essay
In recent years many endeavors have been devoted to reduce the pollutant energy generation by
increasing the utilization of clean energy sources. Actually, the power sector is responsible for roughly
a quarter of anthropogenic CO2 emissions [1]. Thus, the widespread introduction of renewable energy
sources is seen to be one of the major solutions. Meanwhile, fossil fuel based power plants will still be
needed. In any case, fully abstaining from the use of fossil fuels is difficult. Nevertheless, fossil fuel
resources are ultimately finite and the goal should be to shift to renewable energy sources gradually.
Due to its effective role in clean energy generation, microgrid structure is increasingly utilized in
power systems, nowadays [2]. Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and Renewable Energy Sources
(RESs) as environment friendly sources of energy are the key players to this goal [3].
Microgrid as an aggregator manages power scheduling of DERs and RESs to serve sustainably and
reliably through energy management system (EMS) [4], [5]. Employing EMS, microgrid not only
alleviates undesirable impacts of intermittencies pertained to RESs, DERs and load, but also provides
secure energy services according to smart grid provisional objectives [6],[7]. EMS is in charge of
synchronization with the main grid, voltage and frequency control through power balancing and
preserving secure operational margins [8],[9],[10],[11],[12]. Microgrids usually experience power
fluctuations due to

  • 2. Ethical Dilemma Of Mandatory Vaccinations Introduction The classic essay Tragedy of the Commons describes the dilemma society faces when the interests of a group conflicts with the interests of individuals (Hardin, 1968). The example presented is that of a group of cattle ranchers commingling their cattle in a common pasture. At full capacity, each cattle owner still has an incentive to include additional cattle, since the slight decrease in overall yield per animal is offset by the additional animal. Unfortunately, this overgrazing inevitably leads to failure of the commons. The community goal of maximizing food production can only be achieved by placing controls on the interests of the individual cattle ranchers in favor of those of the community (Hardin, 1968). This paper is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is called an immune response. Vaccination is an attempt to manipulate the immune system to provide protection from disease caused by a pathogen without subjecting the person to the actual disease. The cowpox virus was sufficiently similar to the smallpox virus that if an individual were exposed to cowpox, the person would develop antibodies that would subsequently attack and disable the smallpox virus. This basic principle discovered by Jenner over two hundred and fifty years ago is used today to develop the dozens of vaccines we take for granted. What Is Herd Immunity? The term herd immunity first appeared in a paper published in 1923, entitled The Spread Of Bacterial Infection The Problem Of Herd Immunity (Topley Wilson, 1923). Herd immunity refers to the protection of populations from infection, which is brought about by the presence of immune individuals (Anderson May, 1985). Herd immunity occurs when the proportion of people in a population that has immunity to a pathogen is so high, the pathogen cannot find enough susceptible hosts to infect and consequently can no longer survive (Coico Sunshine, 2015). For example, if only 50% of a population has immunity to pathogen X, the chances of an infected person coming in contact with a susceptible person to pass along pathogen X, is one in two. On the other hand, if 90% of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Literature survey provide information about history, present scenario of research and latest advancement in microstrip technology. 1. In this paper, authors conducted a survey of RF power density in urban environment in order to design a rectenna for harvesting ambient RF energy from free space. Although, RF energy spread out in free space have very low power density levels of 36nW/cm2 at GSM 900 (BTx) and 84nW/cm2 at GSM 1800(BTx) which is a three times the MTx power therefore only power density of base station is considered. The proposed antenna is integrated with a Villard voltage doubler circuit using an impedance matching network and the output voltage and efficiency are monitored. The overall design of proposed RF harvesting circuit is accomplished by using the Agilent ADS and achieve maximum efficiency of 46.82%[10] . 4. In this paper, they have developed a dual frequency printed dipole rectenna for the wireless power transmission at 2.45 5.8 GHz. For operating at dual band, a novel uniplanar printed dipole antenna is created using a coupling method. In this combination of low pass filter and bandstop filters effectively blocked the higher order harmonic re radiations [11]. 5. In this project a printed dipole antenna is being designed. Printed dipole antennas are of use, when an electronic circuit is implemented on a printed circuit board (PCB) and is in need of a simple and low cost compact antenna. These antennas has a fairly isotropic pattern, which makes it a good transmitter as well as receiver for portable devices, in this paper they have modified a US patent design owned by Motorola. The original design was for a portable pager device operating in the 900 MHz band. For this design the dipole with their design equations are discussed, but as suggested by the patent , it was slightly remodelled and adopted to the 400 MHz band. The antenna was built ... For centuries, authors, poets and philosophers have used their writings to convey to their readers a code of conduct for life regardless of their religion, race, gender and cultural background. Literature is full of epic vices that are either from a particular era, religion or a setting which makes them specific and relatable only for specific populations. However, one of the major moral lessons conveyed by this play is that relating to hubris, meaning excessive pride. His pride was based on two things; his wisdom and his kingship. He believed he knew what a common man did not since he was the one to solve the riddle of the Sphinx. His excessive pride and blind arrogance can especially be witnessed where he gets furious over the blind prophet Tiresias who personifies truth in the play. When Tiresias indirectly calls Oedipus a desperate fool to be living a life of sin and ignorance, Oedipus explodes with rage and ridicules the prophet for his blindness and replies boastfully that When the Sphinx who barked black songs was hounding us why didn t you speak up and free the city? Her riddle wasn t the sort just anyone who happened by could solve; prophetic skill was needed... I used my wits to solve the answer. I solved it (719). He was so blinded by his intellect and power that he tried to ignore the truth by blaming others to be envious of his wealth and power. Children played games on the sidewalk without a care in the world. Music played out loud from a neighbor s window, and an ambulance wailed in the distance. Men strolled around, and cigarette aroma filled the air. There, outside of her apartment complex, on the concrete steps we talked. Talking to my grandma was my safe place where I could speak freely. She would make things make it easier with her advice or sometimes just listen. Although she couldn t relate to many of my issues, she never failed at giving the best advice. When my grandma was diagnosed with cancer we knew our time left with her was limited. This was the first time I had to deal with cancer first hand. You always hear about it on the television, in the news, and from people but never imagine it would someone you are close to. Once we found out the news she was already at stage 4 of esophogeal cancer. She had been battling with it for months but kept it a secret so we wouldn t worry about her. The Vampires Are Now A Metaphor Of Human Beings As one of the most attractive and enduring figures in the Gothic literature, the vampires have moved from being a peripheral element with the genre to a place near the center and are capable of generating its own massive tradition now. In the recent literary history, they have already been adapted to play a role of a rebel against the moral, social, religious, and even sexual taboos. Put simply, the vampires are now a metaphor of human beings in the modern society and life. With the publication and popularity of The Vampire Chronicles, especially that of Interview with the Vampire, Anne Rice innovates the Gothic tradition in the western literature successfully, for comparatively speaking, the vampires in her novels are more sympathetic and humanized than the terrible and emotionless monsters before. As it is said by both Jan Gordon and Veronica Hollinger, the vampires also stand for some border anxieties, since they penetrate boundaries by their own special and complicated nature, that is to say, between life and death, between love and fear, between power and persecution. Furthermore, sensitive to the social issues very much, Anne Rice expresses the sentimental feelings of the vampires in great detail and by exquisite words and describes vividly the existing state of the outsiders of the modern times as well. Therefore, in the case of Interview with the Vampire, there is a quite highly rational and philosophical probe into the life and the existence of human beings. From ... The smaller the figures are, the further away they are portrayed. Furthermore, when the parallel lines of an object on a picture plane extend toward a single point, the object will appear as though it is further away. Thus, these lines will eventually converge and disappear at a point in the implied distance. This is known as the vanishing point. Objects on a picture plane can appear larger or smaller, depending on the distance from the viewer. For instance, in Paris Street; Rainy Day, the architecture towering over the horizon provides a significant indication of where the vanishing points are situated. The lines representing the roof, mouldings, windows and balconies on the façade of the building in the middle left of the painting recede diagonally towards the horizon. If these lines visibly extended further, they would converge at two points on either side of the building along the horizon. Sarah Ruhl s oddly blunt play, Eurydice, was meant to open up our minds and create an outlook that has never been achieved before. Her intent was to keep us on our toes and read between the lines in order to find the hidden truths in each line. The simplicity of the script was meant to be a little strange and dull, but by doing this Ruhl entered a realm of playwriting that has not been accomplished before. Usually, in the performances we watch we are bombarded with long, complex sentences that leave the audience confused. The vocabulary used is always either outdated or too complicated for many people to understand quickly. However, in this place Ruhl took the opposite approach and chose short and simple sentences, leaving more room for interpretation. By making each line somewhat awkward and dull, Ruhl engages the audiences attention in order to make sense of the words. Many factors could have motivated Ruhl to write her play in such fashion. For example, when I was reading the play I connected her style of writing to artists and poets of the 1960 s, like Bob Dylan and Jim Morrison, who had such a beautiful yet simple play on words. Drosophila Melanogaster Linkage And Inheritance Essay Drosophila melanogaster, Linkage Inheritance Peggy Chang 999349986 BIOC15 Peter, PRA002 University of Toronto Scarborough Abstract This experiment studied Mendel s law of independent assortment through observing three generations of Drosophila melanogaster. His law was examined by looking at the inheritance patterns that predicted genetic linkage, mapping distances and interference. Genes are located along chromosomes and the distances between them vary. During recombination, these genes may become unlinked. The frequency to which this occurs relies on the recombination frequency, in which a greater value represents a greater distance between two loci. By looking at inheritance patterns and recombination frequencies, this experiment showed that white eyes, short wings and forked bristles are X linked traits. As well, dumpy wings and brown eyes are autosomal traits. The expected ratio of a dihybrid cross of 9:3:3:1, was used to determine linkage between two loci. This was then verified using a chi square test. Through analysis of our results, linkage existed between white eyes and short wings, as well as between short wings and forked bristles. Taking a Look at Cervical Spondylodiscitis Conclusion Cervical spondylodiscitis is a rare and serious illness that can arise from various causes, such as pyogenic infections, iatrogenic infections and complications after swallowing foreign bodies. No cases of cervical spondylodiscitis caused by a penetrating neck injury have been published in the literature. It is difficult to treat patients with penetrating neck injuries (induced by stab wound, gunshot wound or by accidents) in the emergency department. Diagnostic and treatment options depend on the cardiopulmonary condition of the patient. In a patient who presents unstable hemodynamic conditions, prompt surgical neck exploration is necessary. The optimal surgical approach depends on the anatomical zone of the injury. Most injuries can be reached through an anterior sternocleidomastoid incision. Sometimes, a median sternotomy, supraclavicular incision, transverse cervical collar incision or manipulations of the mandible are necessary to reach the origin of the vessel injury (11). For patients in stable condition with a suspected vessel injury, computed tomographic angiography (CTA) is recommended to detect the direct and indirect signs of vessel injury. A CT scan could decrease the likelihood of a negative neck exploration (13, 14). Nevertheless, Gonzalez et al showed in a prospective study that not all vessel injuries and esophageal injuries due to penetrating zone II injuries could be detected using a dynamic CT scan or esophagography (15). Furthermore, I will be using the four part process of the method in critiquing artwork which is understood to be describing, analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating. The works of art I have chosen to like is The Scream by Edvard Munch. According to Khan Academy Munch created four forms of this art work, the first was created in 1893 painting in oil, tempera and pastel on cardboard. The second and third in 1893 and 1895 both in pastels and last 1910 was done in tempera. The piece I will be writing about is located at The National Gallery, Oslo, New York and is 36 x 28 7/8 . Moreover, the uncomfortable feeling the painting makes you feel as the three images in the center stares directly back at you. His use of that psychic line is uncanny and very disturbing and I can t help but to feel I hate this painting. Picasso uses sharp angular shapes and forms with the neutral color black as it appears he painted the head of the woman s image located on the top right hand corner of the canvas where it seems he blotted and smeared paint on the canvas to represent his meaning of deformity. Every other image is defined with geometric shape and this effect in my view causes the painting to be unbalanced. His use of the elements and principles were ignored or not present, he used shading that was irregular on his forms which caused the effect of confusion on where the direction of light was coming from. Patrick Frank writes, in Artforms, Although some art historians decry this work s negative depiction of women, viewers are challenged by the paintings hacked out shapes and overall intensity (401). This makes my point of if a painting has no meaning or a painting without a clear meaning to it will mostly lead to confusion and more time than not it will lead the viewer to a feeling of ... There are also potential risks associated with the technologies and operations of the distribution system though, so the distribution system must be included in the cybersecurity discussion. One such distribution security risk involves the increasing popularity of smart meters and the fact that there are no cybersecurity regulations associated with them. Some regard her as a Goddess while there are many who consider her as an oppressed woman bearing the pangs of patriarchy. As she is a mythical figure, not much proof is available regarding her existence. It was first through the epic Ramayana by Valmiki that we received information about her character and personality. Myths are not a reliable source as they are ambiguous and cannot be assigned a single meaning. You should never assign a meaning to a myth because if you assign a meaning, the mind clamps onto just that one meaning. She agrees that Sita is victimised by the patriarchal society but she rejects the view that considers Sita as a submissive. Her opinion does not identify Sita only as an ideal , loyal and devoted wife but she also becomes a subversive and fiery woman as and when the situation demands. • 44. Energy Of Renewable Energy Sources Essay In recent years many endeavors have been devoted to reduce the pollutant energy generation by increasing the utilization of clean energy sources. Actually, the power sector is responsible for roughly a quarter of anthropogenic CO2 emissions [1]. Thus, the widespread introduction of renewable energy sources is seen to be one of the major solutions. Meanwhile, fossil fuel based power plants will still be needed. In any case, fully abstaining from the use of fossil fuels is difficult. Nevertheless, fossil fuel resources are ultimately finite and the goal should be to shift to renewable energy sources gradually. Due to its effective role in clean energy generation, microgrid structure is increasingly utilized in power systems, nowadays [2]. Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) as environment friendly sources of energy are the key players to this goal [3]. Microgrid as an aggregator manages power scheduling of DERs and RESs to serve sustainably and reliably through energy management system (EMS) [4], [5]. Employing EMS, microgrid not only alleviates undesirable impacts of intermittencies pertained to RESs, DERs and load, but also provides secure energy services according to smart grid provisional objectives [6],[7].
