The History And Economy Of Viking Dublin
In this essay, I will examine and explore the history and economy of Viking Dublin during the period
of 800 and 1169. I will analyse the establishment of Viking Dublin and how the town flourished to
become a paramount Viking settlement. I will examine how the town prospered economically by
means of trade and commerce.
There is great abundance of history related to the Viking settlement of Dublin. The city of Dublin is a
city of Scandinavian origin and is over eleven hundred and seventy years old . As the capital of the
country today, we can date its creation to the Scandinavian established settlement in the 840s. There
were various phases of Viking encroachment into Ireland. However, this transitioned erratically from
raiding the island, to trade and finally settling throughout Ireland . The Vikings invaded the Irish coast
by the end of the eighth century. Small masses of Scandinavians emerged until large expositions were
organised and the influx of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dublin was described as a wonder of Ireland in a twelfth century poem suggesting a national
acceptance of the prime value and undeniable importance of the Norse settlement. Additionally, the

was vastly prosperous and attributed to the prosperity of the Norse settlement .
In conclusion, is it evident that there is a rich history associated with Viking Dublin. The town
flourished into a Viking stronghold and suffice to say it remained a stable and a strenuous Viking
settlement for over three centuries. In addition, the economy of Viking Dublin was incredible diverse
but highly prosperous. Nonetheless, the city was built on barbarian wealth and appeared to have held a

Mapinfo Essay
CE1.12 I used the Raster image option in Mapinfo for generating detailed topographical features and
calculating the geographical distances and areas. I developed a two stage process for the creation of
raster image. First, I initialized the vector coordinate values of the new location site obtained from the
GPS receiver from the database Mapinfo software. Second step was the integration of the scanned
aerial photographs obtained from Google Earth and paper map of the site location provided by the
surveying agency, Survey of India. I added the coordinate values manually in the MapInfo table tool
box, as there were some areas where GPS signal was unavailable.

I documented all measurements and findings based on the land survey and submitted reports to Team

CE1.16 I was in charge for submitting pre deployment survey report for installation of the new BTS
tower. I investigated the terrain feature obtained from the Mapinfo software. The information obtained
from Mapinfo was used as the basis for the identifying the ideal location for the cell site. CE1.17 I
conducted a wireless survey by using a wireless adapter for detecting the existing active access points
and measuring the signal strength in new location site. Since pre deployment survey was initial
process for coverage site survey, I decided temporary access point as the reference point and applied
trial and error method to identify different AP located on the new site within the limited boundary.
CE1.18 I used a spectrum analyser with a band of 2.4 GHz which was connected to the PC for the
survey to detect the RF activity in the limited location and was used to calculate the signal as well as
the noise intensity in the region. I noticed variations in the power as I moved along from the reference
point; I noted and referred this variation was due to the channel interference of the neighbouring BTS
towers. I used the PC to generate the graphical and numerical data based on the spectrum analyser.

Soviet Union Effects
Effects of the fall of the Soviet Union Founded in December of 1922 after five years of Civil War, the
Soviet Union was a collection of countries united by communism. It lasted 69 years before collapsing
from numerous internal issues and outside influence. Some of the numerous causes of its collapse
include the introduction of western ideas, stagnation of the economy following the invasion of
Afghanistan, loss of the Eastern Satellite states of Poland and East Germany, and reforms that opened
up the country to outside influence. The Fall of the Soviet Union has had many effects, including
establishing the United States as the sole superpower, the rise of Vladimir Putin, the collapse of the
Russian Economy and Putin s rise to power, the Gulf ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Sticking to the Truman Doctrine president Bush Sr. sent military aid to the Afghans, and after 10

vacuum was created, with Al Qaeda eventually becoming the strongest power. Unlike the afghan

Springs
Alternative Title: The 5 Basic Features of Garage Door Springs That make all the Difference!
Garage door springs are undoubtedly the most crucial components in the mechanism of the door. They
are also the most dangerous since they bear the weight of the assembly, holding the door in place
when it s opened d closed. Unfortunately, like most mechanical systems, a garage door spring is prone
to wear and failure. However, before you consider a replacement, here are the 5 basic features of
garage door springs that you absolutely need to know about.
The all important question Do you need a new garage door spring?
A professional inspection is highly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The type: Garage door springs are available in two types, torsion and extension. Most older doors
have extension springs while newer models use torsion springs. Apart from the varying mechanism,
the placement of these springs also differs. Torsion springs are placed above the door while extension
springs are attached on the sides of the upper tracks.
As their name suggests, extension springs actually get stretched when the door is lowered and contract
when the door is raised. In contrast, torsion springs are tightly wound and they unwind when the door
is opened and the cable is wound back around the drum when the door is closed. An extension system
can be converted to a torsion spring system, but as you may have guessed, this does call for
professional intervention.
2. The dimensions: The weight that a garage door spring can handle will depend on its dimensions.
When it comes to torsion springs, the length, the wire size, the inside diameter of the drum and the
number of turns are crucial considerations. Accuracy is extremely important when measuring these
dimensions. If in any doubt, it would be best to err on the side of caution and go for springs that can
handle more weight than the existing components of the

Utilizing text and lecture discuss how archaeology illuminates the period of Jesus birth, life and
death? Include a discussion of the artifacts that help us understand the culture of the time of Jesus; the
possible impact of Sepphoris, and the archaeology of Galilean villages. What conclusions can we draw
regarding archaeological evidence for the figure of Jesus?
There are many aspects of Jesus birth and life that lay hidden within the folds of time, most of these
tend to bring about theories that to some degree cannot be proven or disproven. This vagueness around
the life of Jesus is offset by the works of the gospels in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The illumination that occurs with the archeological data is a deeper understanding of the history of
those who were like Jesus the lower middle class, not so well off citizens. This deeper understanding
of the way in which life was lived, the structures in which they resided, the consequences of outside
Greco Roman influence, and the overall culture of this place brings into focus the birth, the life, and
the death of Jesus. By understanding that Jesus was as Magness states, ...Jesus likely was a native
Galilean that is, a person of mixed origins whose family had been Judaized by the Hasmoneans
approximately a century before his time, (Magness pg 194). Which is to say that the fluidity of one
culture i.e. Greco roman... would be mixed with those around the area and created a community of
people with beliefs and ways of living that differed from those outside the communities during this
time and were shared like urban centers today, such as Chicago with a mixture of both standard
American culture, outside cultures, and those who dwell within both. This conclusion can be reached
through the explanation of the varying gospel accounts of the birth of Jesus and both the overt claim
and lack of claim to his lineage. Magness goes on to describe a bit on the theory that she has

Collaboration On Cosmological Theories
Collaboration on cosmological theories has helped to develop how we see the universe today.
Astronomers have been able to develop several theories, which helps us to learn about what we see in
the sky. Based on observations on what we can see and of what we now based on the laws of science,
space is able to been seen much closer than we think it is. As Astronomers collaborate together, they
are able to formulate theories on space itself using investigation and observation. Through theories

Advantages Of Multi-Dimensional Family Therapy
Model Applied:
In the scenario, the family which consisted of 17 year old Lisa and her mother Ms. Bowler, were
mandated to attend monthly therapy sessions. In the therapy sessions the therapist implemented Multi
Dimensional Family Therapy (MDFT). MDFT is an integrated and comprehensive, family centered
treatment for youth experiencing problems and disorders. According to Multi Dimensional Family
Therapy, it prevents out of home placement; and focuses on key areas of the adolescent s life by
providing effective and cost efficient treatment (An Evidence Based Intervention.) . The model targets
a range of youth behavior problems that consist of substance abuse, delinquency, antisocial and
aggressive behaviors, school and family problems, and emotional difficulties. Its overall goal is to
eliminate substance abuse, crime, delinquency, and to improve mental health, school, and family
functioning. It aims to improve the adolescent s coping, problem solving, and decision making skills,
and enhance family functioning, which is a critical ingredient in positive youth development (An
Evidence Based Intervention.) . This model was chosen during therapy because it has many factors
that will contribute to the anticipated improvements in Lisa and Ms. Bowler.
Strengths and Weaknesses of the Model:
One strength of MDFT is that it is proven effective. According to Multi Dimensional Family Therapy,
it has over 30 years of supporting research in U.S. based and international studies

Analysis Of Concord, By Jakob Andreae And Martin Chemnitz
The book of Concord, or Concordia , lays out the beliefs and theology of the Lutheran Church. It was
officially put together as of 1580, or late 16th century in order to put a stop to religious controversy
after the death of Martin Luther in 1546. This book was written by a group of theologians led by
Jakob Andreae and Martin Chemnitz. This book was intended to grasp all of the prefaced doctrines
and beliefs and to put together the Lutheran Church as we know it today. It opens with a preface, and
then goes into three past creeds that establish what a Christian is, then followed by the Ausburg
Confession, Which is the literal written out beliefs of The Lutheran Church.
Inside of the Ausburg confession, there are 28 articles, including a preface and a conclusion, though
only the first 21 are actual chief articles of faith, the other 7 speak of abuses of power.
Article 1 is about how the Lutheran church sees God as a whole, believing in the Triune God and
reject other interpretations regarding the nature of God.
Article 2 speaks of sin, how since the fall of Adam, all men (and women) are born into sin without the
fear of God, without trust in God and with strong desires to please oneself, and that even now we are
dead to sin, unless saved through being born again through babtism and the Holy Ghost.
Article 3 speaks on their beliefs in Jesus, or the Son of God. They believe that the Word did assume
human nature in the womb of Mother Mary, but also kept his divine holiness,

Abortion And The Social Aspects Of Abortion
INTRODUCTION
It is estimated almost half of pregnancies in Australia are unplanned . Unexpected pregnancies happen
for various individual, social, economic and political reasons . The World Health Organisation (WHO)
approximates one in three women in Australia will have an abortion procedure in their life . Abortion
data is only gathered by South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. However,
South Australia is the only state to publish data and report findings annually. Abortion is a heavy topic
which has the nation spilt into two groups; pro life or pro choice. Pro life is in favour of the foetus and
they believe that by killing the foetus it is equivalent to murder. Pro choice is for abortion, as they
believe that the woman has the choice to do what she wants with her body. This report will cover how
religion deals with abortion and how it can clash with modern ethnicity, abortion safety, the
repercussions of abortion and the social aspects of abortion.
RELIGION VS ETHNICITY
Religious communities have had a convoluted history in regards to abortion. The Catholic Church of
Australia states the direct and voluntary killing of an unborn is gravely immoral. No reason, however
serious or tragic, can ever justify the deliberate killing of an innocent human being . Abortion is not
explicitly forbidden within the Bible; as neither the Old nor New Testament condemns it. As a social
norm, however, Catholic s believe that life starts at conception via

Analysis Of Jane Campion s The Piano
Applying a postcolonial perspective, write an analysis of the ideas and values in Jane Campion s The
Piano
Looking at Jane Campion s The Piano through a post colonial perspective ideas of isolation, civilised
vs the uncivilised, and authority and the power as a result of European settlement in New Zealand can
be examined.
Jane Campion s The Piano explores cultural differences between the native Maori people of New
Zealand and the newly arrived Europeans. The first aspect that must be taken into account in this
analysis is the physical setting. The film is set within the lush bush of New Zealand just off the coast
in the 1850s. The setting itself is intriguing, and very intense in its complexity and density, but yet
provides an air of isolation and confinement for the newly arrived Ada. Upon arrival to the beach their
shelter for the night, is set against the backdrop of a hostile and empty coast. Ada s surroundings act as
a canvas to display the displacement of European settlement.
The Maoris often complement the natural environment, working with it in their movements, rather
than against as do Ada and Flora. They are shown struggling through the mud and the new terrain in
situations where the Maoris fit in seamlessly with their surroundings. Their property is also
immediately surrounded my tree trunks, rather than the rich greenery seen elsewhere in the film,
symbolic of the Europeans destructions as a result of colonisation.
Campion utilises costuming to display the authority and power of the European culture, whilst also
criticising its limitations. The natural setting is often juxtaposed with the Europeans dark, and
structured clothing, which is ultimately entirely impractical. Ada wears her exuberant, yet dull
Victorian clothing, whilst Stewarts clothing is often almost too small, confining and restricting. Her
costuming immediately draws the intrigue of the locals, as does her fair skin, isolating her further.
This use of costuming highlights how out of place the Europeans are, but also their ignorance of the
realities of their environment. This is compared with the Maori s more natural, relaxed clothing that
blends with the naturalistic environment. However, there are often aspects of European

More data on success probabilities may help to direct the course of action
We would also like to have information about the willingness of production companies to sell sequel
rights at a pre negotiated price. Action Plan: Given our analysis of the motion picture industry, we
recommend that Arundel carefully select the major film studios from which they intend to purchase
sequel rights. The net present value of hypothetical sequels taken from the available previous years
shows not only that the industry is highly volatile, but also that certain production studios are more
volatile than others in terms of their recent performance. In addition, some studios are consistently less
profitable than others. (See NPV for Each Production Company chart in appendix) Since the success
of film studios are relatively stable in the short term (see Rental Shares of Major Film Distributors
table and graph) Because of this stability, it is possible for Arundel to approach more profitable studios
with their offer to purchase sequel rights. Out of all the major film studios, only MCA Universal,
Warner Bros., and The Walt Disney Company generate a positive net present value on a per film basis.
However, according to casual inquiries, it is unlikely that any movie studio would enter negotiations
with Arundel on a per film price that is less than 1 million. Instead, the film studios seem to

The Theme Of Racism In Down At The Cross By James Baldwin
The environment surrounding an individual determines reactions and character. Down at the Cross
from The Fire Next Time is James Baldwin s memoir pertaining to his life experiences with racism.
The author presents an original writing strategy which uses examples and details to reach the main
goal of helping the reader discover the main points of the story. The rhetorical style for the second half
of the novel furthermore aids Baldwin in his overall purpose of informing Blacks in the 1960 s of how
White people, who are incapable of accepting and loving themselves, create a racist environment,
which African Americans, despite fear and risk, can conquer with love and strategy. Upon my
reflection on the writing, I was pleasantly surprised to find Baldwin has a perspective unlike any other
theorist, because he has convinced me to believe with him how the end of racism can be found in the
root cause of the issue.
Because Caucasian people are uncomfortable and unconfident with themselves, they consistently
persecute and destroy people of African descent. When James Baldwin says some argue Whites must
accept Blacks, he counteracts this using procatalepsis suggesting, White people in this country will
have quite enough to do in learning how to accept and love themselves and each other, and when they
have achieved this which will not be tomorrow and may very well be never the Negro problem will no
longer exist (Baldwin 22). The author has brought to my attention how self pity,

The Atomic Bombing Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki Essay
The atomic bombing of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 is the most
controversial military decision in the history of Air Power, and may even be the most controversial
decision in history. The first of the bombings happened at Hiroshima, where the B 29 Superfortress
Enola Gay dropped Little Boy, an Uranium based atomic bomb. Structural damage estimates vary,
with some sources claiming the blast and fires destroyed about 90% of the city (History.com Staff
Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki ) and some estimating a little more than a third of the buildings
were destroyed or severely damaged ( The Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. ). Most
sources estimate about a third of the population of the 300,000 person city died in the immediate
explosion (Wright), with tens of thousands more dying in the subsequent days as a result of wounds
and radiation. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki led directly to the unconditional surrender of
the Japanese Empire and the end of World War 2, and indirectly caused the Cold War between the
United States and the USSR. Initially, historians took Churchill and Truman s justifications that the
bomb was dropped to end the war quickly, and that was the end of the argument. Throughout time,
revisionists have challenged that notion and argued that the bombs were not necessary for ending the
war in Japan in a timely fashion, and it was merely an unethical, immoral show of power to the
Soviets at the expense of the Japanese

Review Of Amazing Night With Logan
I had been about two weeks since Lexi had gone to the doctors and had experienced that amazing
night with Logan. She was about three days late for her period now and had just come back from the
store, a pregnancy test in hand. Now she was anxiously awaiting the results. She bit her lip, looking in
the mirror. What if she really was pregnant? How would Logan react? Would he be happy or mad?
Lexi really wanted a baby, to start her own family, especially with Logan. The test suddenly dinged
and Lexi picked it up excitedly. It was positive! I m going to have a baby! Lexi squealed in delight.
She was about to run out of the bathroom and find Logan to tell him the good news when she
suddenly realized that he was out of the house for the day. She sighed softly and decided to wait until
he got home. She wanted to tell him in person.
Logan had woken up early. He looked over at Lexi, still sleeping before kissing her forehead gently,
trying not to wake her. He got dressed quietly before walking over to the nightstand and scribbling a
note. Have to do some errands today. Should be back around lunch time, I ll bring back some food! I ll
miss you. Stay beautiful!
Love Logan

Research Paper
Many authors like to write fantasy novels, stories that detached themselves from reality, novels that
tell us about magic, parallel dimensions, between others. But even in these fictional stories there is
still the presence of the universal themes that can be touched not only in this kind of novels but also in
the simpler ones, themes like the fight between good and evil, love, between others.
There are also the authors that actually mix the fantasy and the reality to a point that it is really hard to
see the difference between them, Gabriel Garcia Marquez is said to be the father of this gender called

The Pros And Cons Of Pornography
What is pornography?
Pornography can be any form of media digital or print that stimulates sexual arousal in a person. This
media often features, but is not limited to nude men and or women performing sexual acts. There have
been mixed feelings about the concept of pornography all throughout history.
Some relationships are brought together by the use of pornography, maybe by helping to create a spark
or rekindle the sexual factor that is no longer present. Other relationships have been completely ruined
by excessive pornographic use or when one partner doesn t agree with their partner watching porn and
or masturbating.
Today millions of people own pornographic material or observe pornographic content in one form or
another from the comfort of their cellular phones or computers. Even televisions now have direct
access to web browsers making it even easier for someone to instantly access a thrill of pornographic
sexuality. Printed pornography has also been a very popular form of adult entertainment.
For hundreds of years, sex has been transcribed and depicted in print. Though some content is created
to educate, other content is solely for sexual enticement. The most popular publisher of adult content
is Playboy, who has been selling millions of copies of their magazines for decades and is so well know
that people from every generation are well aware of the brand even if they don t follow the material.
All forms of media today, from music to movies contains suggestive themes that can entice someone
to either masturbate or watch porn. Sexual pleasure is a part of our nature and has been from the
beginning of time.
There have been paintings and carvings found all around the world depicting sexual acts dating back
thousands of years. This concept is nothing new; though certain cultures see pornography as a taboo,
other cultures see it as a socially acceptable. Regardless of who thinks what, today the porn industry
has billions of viewers and supporters and is worth several billion dollars.

There is one scene in the movie which could have been impossible to produce without computer
imagery. The scene involves Scar who wants to kill his royal relatives by trapping them under the
crowd of thousands running wildebeests.
Occasionally, there s an effect that the directors want in a film that would be virtually impossible to do
with traditional animation techniques, explains CGI supervisor Scott Johnston. That s where computer
animation can sometimes make a difference. A stampede of thousands of wildebeests would be too
laborious to create by hand but animators working with computers can figure out what the behaviour
of the animal is and replicate it. We can also create all the camera angles that the scene requires and

They came up with the idea a simulation, sort of following the leader. They created the leaders and the
followers so logically, the followers had to follow the leaders but at the same time avoiding each other
because they did not want the wildebeests to crash into each other. The next step was to match them
into the background. The CGI crew built the 3 dimensional grid stages which matched the perspective
and the look of the background which was going to be in the scene. Then they placed one of the
simulations on the grid and replaced the small magnets with the wildebeests running. The different
angles of the camera gave the audience the possibility to see the wildebeests running either over the
camera or under or even zoomed in the crowd.
In terms of color, the animators wanted the wildebeests to be slightly of different color so they gave
them random wild colors. It was made with the purpose that the director now could say what exactly
he liked or disliked and what he wanted to change in the particular wildebeest in the scene. When they
put this scene in the film for a draft version, the shades of grey were applied to match the black and
white film. And then in final color, they gave them each different coloring but within a very limited
range of shading: some of them became slightly lighter grey, some of them darker grey. All in all, five
CGI specialists spent over two years creating the incredible two

Transferability Skills Analysis
In determining employability, one must determine and consider a person s current occupational
profile, which includes their functional abilities, education, aptitudes, work experience and

Just because two individuals have an identical impairment does not necessarily equate to them both

Vocational Rehabilitation Specialists (VRS) are qualified to use work samples and standardized

VRS are qualified to use (if required), usually include: general aptitude for learning, academic

Friendship Between George Washington And Marquis De Lafayette
Throughout history, friendships have formed amongst important leaders that in turn propelled history
into greatness. Starting in the Greek and Roman times, Roman Emperor Octavian with best friend and
defense minister Marcus Agrippa worked together to develop Rome into a major global power.
Similarly, the friendship between Meriwether Lewis and William Clark allowed for the exploration
and development of western America as it is formed now ( 10 of History s Greatest Bromances ,
Mandatory.com). Even the friendship between activists Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton
propelled the women s rights movement to equality (Bower, Life123.com). But one friendship that is a
little less known, but seemingly the most important to history, is that between George Washington and
Marquis de Lafayette. This powerful friendship allowed for the successful outcome of the American
Revolution by providing strong leadership and wisdom to American armies. This pair of generals
changed the course of history simply through their bond as friends. Marie Joseph Paul Yves Gilbert du
Motier, or Marquis de Lafayette, was born on September 6th, 1757. Unfortunately, by the age of 12,
Lafayette s entire family had passed away and he was left an orphan but an orphan with a sizeable
inheritance. Following in his father s footsteps, a royal navy general, when Lafayette turned 16 he
joined the Royal Army in France. Two years later he married into the Royal family and therefore made

In the light of ever increasing greenhouse gases, global energy use, the increasing cost of energy
services, concerns over energy supply security, climate change and local air pollution, this report
centers around the question of how CO2 emission can be reduced in long term. As transport system
plays a major role in the increased greenhouse gases, this report highlights the use of future vehicles in
the transport sector from an economic, technical and environmental point of view.
Through its multi disciplinary approach the report provides a knowledge base concerning different
strategies made by government and recent advancements in automobile sector in order to reduce

Low carbon fuel standards are rapidly becoming an part of the national debate over how to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions. Transport system plays a vital role in the increased greenhouse gases.
Increase in number of vehicles has increased the carbon emission rapidly. A pie chart gives you the
information about the total amount of CO2 emission by different sector in 2010. Electricity, heat
generation and transport system are the three major systems accounted for 63% of total CO2 emission
during the year 2010 (I E A Statistics, 2012).
The potential for increased levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere cost
of fossil fuels and high demand for non renewable fossil fuels has brought attention to CO2 emission
reduction strategies. Government has set some policy context and emissions standards for the

Exothermic Reactions
Introduction: There are five types of chemical reactions that can occur; synthesis (A+B=C),
decomposition(C=A+B), single replacement (A+BC=B+AC), double replacement (AB+CD=AD+CB)
, and combustion. A combustion reaction consists of a hydrocarbon plus oxygen gas which yields
carbon dioxide and water (CxHx +O2=CO2+H2O). Another characteristic that can distinguish
between types of reactions is whether they are endothermic or exothermic. Exothermic is a process
that releases heat due to the surroundings being a lower temperature than the object.Endothermic on
the other hand, absorbs energy through heat from its surroundings, the object is at a cooler
temperature. Some commonly known processes that are endothermic are sublimation and evaporation

Aerobic respiration happens inside our body everyday, just like other chemical reactions. Aerobic
means with air meaning that this type of respiration needs oxygen for it to occur so it is called aerobic

respiration takes place in the cytoplasm, the inner cell space. Cells break down food in the
mitochondria which then produces 36 ATP. The first step is glycolysis, the second is the formation of
acetyl coenzyme A, then the citric acid cycle, and the fourth is the Electron transport system. In the
process of Glycolysis, a six carbon glucose molecule is converted into two, 3 carbon molecules of
pyruvate. This process occurs in the cytoplasm. 2 molecules of ATP are consumed in order to begin
this process, while four molecules of ATP and 2 molecules of NADH are

Sound Connections Chapter Summary
Chapter 3 TONAL AND RHYTHM SYLLABLE SYSTEMS
Amber Hall
MUSE 100
Dr. Palmer
RT 2
The third chapter of Don P. Ester s book, Sound Connections, introduces many systems for teaching
pitch and rhythm. The chapter discusses the benefits and disadvantages of the many systems, such as,
Ester starts by introducing his idea of the criteria for selecting effective syllable systems. One of his
many points is, The syllables must connect very efficiently with the aural syntax of music, allowing
the learner to easily link syllables to patterns before encountering notation. The next being The
syllables must eventually link to musical symbols in a practical and intuitive manner. The last being,
The syllables should be appropriate for use with all ages. Ester also outlines specific guidelines for
tonal and rhythmic systems that vary from each other. The most successful systems chosen by Ester
meet these criteria points, and are outlined as to why they are the most successful. ... Show more

As Ester explains both of these methods, he is quick to point out the flaws and show why they are no
longer used today. The first method does not cover the primary focus of reinforcing specific letter
names, while the second method allows incorrect rhythm. There is a German version that has single
syllables, but it does not correlate with English flats or sharps. Another flaw quickly mentioned by
Ester, is the fact that a different syllable pattern has to be sung for each tonic triad associated with the
fifteen key signatures, making it nearly impossible for beginner level students to comprehend. This
clearly does not meet the criteria of being appropriate for all

Prejudices in Cathedral
Prejudice comes in all forms; whether it is due to someone s skin color, religion, or disability, fear of
someone who is different than what you view as normal is apparent all around us. Miriam Webster
defines Prejudice as injury or damage resulting from some judgment or action of another in disregard
to one s rights . Although most people tend to associate prejudice with racism, that is not always the
case. In quite a few instances of everyday life, it is hate towards another person you consider to be
inferior and not normal. Prejudice implies a closed point of view, one that is not open to differences

The Narrator s thoughts show us that he holds onto these prejudgements of blind people, believing
they have both physical and mental incapabilities, and has not made a point to try and fix this
perspective. The Narrator also feels he has an inherent superiority to Robert because of this, placing a
self centered twist onto everything. For all of the Narrators prejudice towards others, he is more than
happy to not place any of his critical and judgemental focus on himself.
It is shown in glimpses of the story how the Narrator dictates his world by only what he can actually
see, placing a limitation on himself that Robert does not have. It was beyond my understanding.
Hearing this, I felt sorry for the blind man for a little bit. And then I found myself thinking what a
pitiful life this woman must have led (139). The Narrator lacks what can be perceived as a sight into
both his own, and others, emotions. It is further on that we come to realize how much the Narrator
relies on his vision, thinking that Robert s wife, Beulah, could have worn anything she wanted to, not
because she felt like it, but because no one could appreciate how she beautiful or ugly she looks.
Although the Narrator can obviously see, he does not realize the restrictions he placed upon himself
and how those restrictions prevented him from wanting or doing anything greater with his own

Lao Tzu Leadership Influences
Introduction Lao Tzu, the Father of Taoism, lived a large part of his life searching for an individual s
path of natural goodness. He is known for numerous inspirational quotes, such as Be the Chief, but

encouragement throughout my Coast Guard career. The title of lord is inherited or given as a
positional power granted by landowners. The Chief is chosen by the people to make the right

subordinates to get them to meet future goals. If they do not have the future goals laid out for them,

#5 Praise people for a job well done also needs my attention. I have a terrible habit of correcting and

My hardest challenge will be #8 because it Challenges people to try out new and innovative ways to

Social Comparison Essay On Fast
When we want to evaluate something we really only have one tool to use: Comparison. Even with

We are constantly looking to others to evaluate and determine our adequacy. When we look to people

It keeps up with traffic on surface streets, but its fifty years old, and it was built for the highways of
fifty years ago. Driving on today s highways is not exactly the definition of a stress free environment.
But every other month I get to go out with a classic British car club on what we call runs . A line of ten
to thirty classic cars, going on Sunday drives, through the mountains at about fifty miles an hour.
Basically, modern traffic can suck it. But without fail, there is always one guy in a 2002 Jaguar XK8
tagging along with us. I hate that guy. When I have the chance I will pick a point in line as far away
from him as possible, preferably next to a Triumph Spitfire. Why? Because the TR4 and the Spitfire
were sold as his and hers cars, and the Spitfire was hers. This is what downward social comparison
looks like. If I were to drive with the 370 horsepower Jaguar I would be constantly reminded of my
110 horsepower car s inferiority, however next to the 69 horsepower Spitfire I m reminded of its

Sociological Analysis Of The Titanic Essay
Sociological analysis of the Titanic When researching movies for my paper, I decided that the Titanic
was the perfect option. Being that the movie was based on the true event of the RMS Titanic sinking, I
knew I could also find a lot of research during the time of the Titanic to help strengthen my paper. The
movie Titanic took place in the early 1900 s, a time rich in sociological issues. Their way of life was a
lot different than ours today. Some major sociological concepts that were shown several times in the
movie were, social stratification, gender inequality and sexism, inequality of income, and
discrimination. During this time period people faced huge gaps in wealth, gender, class, and race.
Gaps between the rich and poor were extreme. The wealthy were rich and the poor were in poverty.
The middle class was not a common standing within society: you were either upper or lower class. It
was very difficult to rise above the lower class standing, and easier to fall below the upper class line
(Prezi web). Men dominated in almost all social standings; voting, ownership of land, professions,
wealth, etc. Women were still viewed as property and in most ways, treated as such. The gap between
the upper and lower class caused discrimination amongst them. Lower class was treated poorly by the
upper class and seen as less worthy. In my paper I plan to include all of these sociological issues, and
clearly connect them within the movie, Titanic. The movie Titanic was a drama,

The Success Of The Great Crash
Generally, there was a calm period of the economy known as the Great Moderation where Central
banks around the world claimed that it was due to increasingly competent use of interest rate policy
(Garnaut, 2009). However, it was not long until the market failure makes its way into the economy in
2008. The period was known as the Great Crash where combination of several failures in the economy
contributed to the collapse.
The Great Crash
Real estate had significantly grown in popularity because as it is considered as a good consumption as
well as investment (Malpezzi, 1990). Financial institutions start to offer easy credit to many, including
the non credit worthy ones, mainly the underprivileged. Credit history, financial ability and ... Show

Unfortunately, the opposite happens, where payments increase sharply coupled with decrease house
value leaving the subprime borrower in dire position to meet monthly payments (Ebrahim, 2009).
Thus, due to negative equity, many defaulted as they do not have any option causing a domino effect
in the economy (Ebrahim, 2009). The property became an underwater investment triggering further
strategic default (Foote, et. al., 2008) mainly by the prime borrowers. The house value became lower
than the loan value at this time of the economy, spreading more defaults as borrower felt that it is not
worth to continue payment.
The Economic Collapse
The effects of subprime mortgage were horrendous, as it causes domino effect in the entire chain. The
risky ARMs loan had become a toxic debt, causing financial fragility (Ebrahim, et. al., 2014) which
leads to economic collapse. There were too many debt in the economy and financial institutions starts
to fall out. Large financial institutions in the United States like Bear Stearns, Merrill Lynch, Goldman
Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Lehman Brothers, were either taken over, bailed out by the government or
went bankrupt (Wikipedia, 2015). The collapse of Lehman Brothers and government s refusal to bail
out had been the starting point for extraordinary downturn in global economy (Garnaut, 2009).
Stemming from that, financial institutions now believe that no one is safe. Government

What Are The Negative Effects Of The Santa Ana By Joan Didion
In her essay, Didion uses a very ominous and foreboding tone to convey the topic of the Santa Ana
winds. From the very beginning of the essay, the reader is given a feeling that these Santa Ana winds
possess a type of evil in them that seem to affect people for the worse. The reader is never allowed to
look past the negative effects of the Santa Ana winds. I will explain how Joan Didion does this in the
following examples.
In order to give a greater sense of authenticity and awe, Didion utilizes a wide range of descriptive
phrases. For example, There is something uneasy in the L.A. air this afternoon, some unnatural
stillness, some tension. What it means is that tonight a Santa Ana will begin to blow, a hot wind from
the northeast whining down through the Cajon and San Gorgonio Passes, blowing up sandstorms out
along Route 66, drying the hills and the nerves to the flash point. This opening group of sentences
clearly describe the Santa Ana winds and give them a corporeal form. These sentences ... Show more

In the entire essay, not once are the foehn winds ever mentioned to be a positive force, nor are any
scientific facts stated. She only tells of how terrible and mysterious the winds are and that only
miserable circumstances follow in their wake. For instance, .... we feel it. The baby frets. The maid
sulks. I rekindle a waning argument with the telephone company . This excerpt is a good example of
Didion writing how the winds affect people in general, it tells about how a sense of unease or worry
settles upon the population. Also, as seen in the example above, Didion does not only manipulate the
feelings brought out in her essay by selecting what data or biased observations are allowed in her
work, but also by manipulating the way that her writing transitions in the

Racism In Patricia Williams The Emperor s New Clothes
Race and the different racial characteristics have been the main topic of many debates all over the
United States and has been for a long time. The topic of race continues to stay relevant because of the
way race is regarded. In the expert from Patricia Williams The Emperor s New Clothes she establishes
multiple reasons on why and how racism is viewed in today s day and time.
Williams makes very strong points and claims within the excerpt however one her most recognizable
ones is on page 10 the first paragraph and last sentence Williams states The noisy, racial chasm still
yawn darkly beneath us all, but we few brave souls glide gingerly above, upon a skim of hope, our
bodies made light with denial, the black pond so dangerously and thinly iced with the conviction that
talking about it will only make things worse. Williams claim in this is clear: not talking about racism
will only continue to add to the fire which will only make the situation worse. Not talking about
racism is letting a pot stir and allowing racism to grow beneath our noses. When we don t speak on
racism it slows down the process of us advancing as a world. Many white people were taught that
talking about racism is racist so they tend to shy away conversations that evolve around race without
knowing they are involuntary apart of the problem by refusing to recognize the issue.
Williams starts off by using her son as an example on how race is disregarded. Williams talks about
how multiple white teachers

Accidents, Illness and Emergencies in the Early Years Setting
Describe the policies and procedures for dealing with accidents, injuries, illnesses and other
emergencies that are in place within the school setting (P3).
These policies and procedures of accident, injury, illness and other emergencies are in place within the
school setting to govern working practices and provide quality and an agreed framework for action.
The management within the school setting is responsible for creating the policies and for checking that
they are being followed, and the staffs are responsible for implementing the policies.
As all staff and parents must be aware of these policies, you will often find them on a notice board, or
in the settings brochure. It is also important that new staff are informed of these ... Show more content

In order to maintain a clean and healthy environment this policy provides guidance for staff and
parents as to when children should or should not be in school if showing signs of illness. The health
and wellbeing of all children is of paramount importance to enable them to be successful learners and
to be the best that they can be.
Guidance
Children should not be brought to school if they are displaying signs of illness. If parents do bring
children to school and staff feel that they are unfit for school, parents / carers / emergency contact will
be contacted and requested to come and collect their child and requested not to return their child to
school until symptom free.
If a child is thought to be unwell while at school they will be seen by a qualified first aider as the
condition of the child needs to be assessed. This should be done in a kind and caring manner. The
Head Teacher of should be informed of any sick children.
Should a child become ill whilst at school, a member of staff will contact the parent / carer /
emergency contact. While awaiting the arrival of parents, the staff will ensure the comfort of the child
in the school office, taking appropriate action, which would include seeking medical advice if
necessary. If the child is in danger, the staff will seek medical advice immediately. Should a member
of staff consider an illness / situation to warrant immediate medical attention, they will report to a

The Cosmological Argument
The Cosmological Argument
An important argument to try and prove the existence of God is the Cosmological Argument brought
on by observations of the physical universe, made by Saint Thomas Aquinas, a thirteenth century
Christian philosopher. The cosmological argument is a result from the study of the cosmos; Aquinas
borrows ideas from Aristotle to make this systematically organized argument. Aquinas first point
begins with the observation that everything is moving. Aquinas says that everything that moves must
be moved by another moving thing, which has to be moved by another moving thing and so on. This
cannot be infinite though, because consequently the motion of the series would have no origin, and the
origin of this series cannot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But David Hume, a Scottish philosopher, objected to Aquinas second point by arguing that if each
individual link in the chain of causes and motions can be explained then there is no need for an
additional explanation for the whole of the chain. The explanation of each part is enough of an
explanation for the whole itself. But defenders say that the discovery of the Big Bang theory would be
the beginning of the causes and motions in the universe and is not infinite, so infinite regress would
not be possible.
A third objection to the cosmological argument as a whole is that Aquinas insists that everything has a
cause; if that is true, then what caused God? There being an uncaused cause would be a contradiction
to Aquinas whole argument that everything has a cause yet God has no cause. But Aquinas defends his
argument by saying that only everything in our universe has a cause because everything in our
universe is a limited, dependent being. That still would require an uncaused, neither finite, nor
dependent being unlike anything in our universe, God. Critics also object that the cosmological
argument does not prove a loving and personal God, but Aquinas would probably respond by stating
that this wouldn t prove his argument is wrong, only that it has a limited purpose. I think between the
two arguments, Cosmological and Ontological, the cosmological

  • 2. The History And Economy Of Viking Dublin In this essay, I will examine and explore the history and economy of Viking Dublin during the period of 800 and 1169. I will analyse the establishment of Viking Dublin and how the town flourished to become a paramount Viking settlement. I will examine how the town prospered economically by means of trade and commerce. There is great abundance of history related to the Viking settlement of Dublin. The city of Dublin is a city of Scandinavian origin and is over eleven hundred and seventy years old . As the capital of the country today, we can date its creation to the Scandinavian established settlement in the 840s. There were various phases of Viking encroachment into Ireland. However, this transitioned erratically from raiding the island, to trade and finally settling throughout Ireland . The Vikings invaded the Irish coast by the end of the eighth century. Small masses of Scandinavians emerged until large expositions were organised and the influx of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I developed a two stage process for the creation of raster image. First, I initialized the vector coordinate values of the new location site obtained from the GPS receiver from the database Mapinfo software. Second step was the integration of the scanned aerial photographs obtained from Google Earth and paper map of the site location provided by the surveying agency, Survey of India. I added the coordinate values manually in the MapInfo table tool box, as there were some areas where GPS signal was unavailable. I documented all measurements and findings based on the land survey and submitted reports to Team lead for further verification of the report. CE1.16 I was in charge for submitting pre deployment survey report for installation of the new BTS tower. I investigated the terrain feature obtained from the Mapinfo software. The information obtained from Mapinfo was used as the basis for the identifying the ideal location for the cell site. CE1.17 I conducted a wireless survey by using a wireless adapter for detecting the existing active access points and measuring the signal strength in new location site. Since pre deployment survey was initial process for coverage site survey, I decided temporary access point as the reference point and applied trial and error method to identify different AP located on the new site within the limited boundary. CE1.18 I used a spectrum analyser with a band of 2.4 GHz which was connected to the PC for the survey to detect the RF activity in the limited location and was used to calculate the signal as well as the noise intensity in the region. I noticed variations in the power as I moved along from the reference point; I noted and referred this variation was due to the channel interference of the neighbouring BTS towers. I used the PC to generate the graphical and numerical data based on the spectrum analyser. CE 1.19 For the accuracy of measurement and data, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Garage door springs are undoubtedly the most crucial components in the mechanism of the door. They are also the most dangerous since they bear the weight of the assembly, holding the door in place when it s opened d closed. Unfortunately, like most mechanical systems, a garage door spring is prone to wear and failure. However, before you consider a replacement, here are the 5 basic features of garage door springs that you absolutely need to know about. The all important question Do you need a new garage door spring? A professional inspection is highly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The type: Garage door springs are available in two types, torsion and extension. Most older doors have extension springs while newer models use torsion springs. Apart from the varying mechanism, the placement of these springs also differs. Torsion springs are placed above the door while extension springs are attached on the sides of the upper tracks. As their name suggests, extension springs actually get stretched when the door is lowered and contract when the door is raised. In contrast, torsion springs are tightly wound and they unwind when the door is opened and the cable is wound back around the drum when the door is closed. An extension system can be converted to a torsion spring system, but as you may have guessed, this does call for professional intervention. 2. The dimensions: The weight that a garage door spring can handle will depend on its dimensions. When it comes to torsion springs, the length, the wire size, the inside diameter of the drum and the number of turns are crucial considerations. Accuracy is extremely important when measuring these dimensions. If in any doubt, it would be best to err on the side of caution and go for springs that can handle more weight than the existing components of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was officially put together as of 1580, or late 16th century in order to put a stop to religious controversy after the death of Martin Luther in 1546. This book was written by a group of theologians led by Jakob Andreae and Martin Chemnitz. This book was intended to grasp all of the prefaced doctrines and beliefs and to put together the Lutheran Church as we know it today. It opens with a preface, and then goes into three past creeds that establish what a Christian is, then followed by the Ausburg Confession, Which is the literal written out beliefs of The Lutheran Church. Inside of the Ausburg confession, there are 28 articles, including a preface and a conclusion, though only the first 21 are actual chief articles of faith, the other 7 speak of abuses of power. Article 1 is about how the Lutheran church sees God as a whole, believing in the Triune God and reject other interpretations regarding the nature of God. Article 2 speaks of sin, how since the fall of Adam, all men (and women) are born into sin without the fear of God, without trust in God and with strong desires to please oneself, and that even now we are dead to sin, unless saved through being born again through babtism and the Holy Ghost. • 13. Abortion And The Social Aspects Of Abortion INTRODUCTION It is estimated almost half of pregnancies in Australia are unplanned . Unexpected pregnancies happen for various individual, social, economic and political reasons . The World Health Organisation (WHO) approximates one in three women in Australia will have an abortion procedure in their life . Abortion data is only gathered by South Australia, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. However, South Australia is the only state to publish data and report findings annually. Abortion is a heavy topic which has the nation spilt into two groups; pro life or pro choice. Pro life is in favour of the foetus and they believe that by killing the foetus it is equivalent to murder. Pro choice is for abortion, as they believe that the woman has the choice to do what she wants with her body. This report will cover how religion deals with abortion and how it can clash with modern ethnicity, abortion safety, the repercussions of abortion and the social aspects of abortion. RELIGION VS ETHNICITY Religious communities have had a convoluted history in regards to abortion. The Catholic Church of Australia states the direct and voluntary killing of an unborn is gravely immoral. No reason, however serious or tragic, can ever justify the deliberate killing of an innocent human being . Abortion is not explicitly forbidden within the Bible; as neither the Old nor New Testament condemns it. As a social norm, however, Catholic s believe that life starts at conception via ... • 14. Analysis Of Jane Campion s The Piano Applying a postcolonial perspective, write an analysis of the ideas and values in Jane Campion s The Piano Looking at Jane Campion s The Piano through a post colonial perspective ideas of isolation, civilised vs the uncivilised, and authority and the power as a result of European settlement in New Zealand can be examined. Jane Campion s The Piano explores cultural differences between the native Maori people of New Zealand and the newly arrived Europeans. The first aspect that must be taken into account in this analysis is the physical setting. The film is set within the lush bush of New Zealand just off the coast in the 1850s. The setting itself is intriguing, and very intense in its complexity and density, but yet provides an air of isolation and confinement for the newly arrived Ada. Upon arrival to the beach their shelter for the night, is set against the backdrop of a hostile and empty coast. Ada s surroundings act as a canvas to display the displacement of European settlement. The Maoris often complement the natural environment, working with it in their movements, rather than against as do Ada and Flora. They are shown struggling through the mud and the new terrain in situations where the Maoris fit in seamlessly with their surroundings. Their property is also immediately surrounded my tree trunks, rather than the rich greenery seen elsewhere in the film, symbolic of the Europeans destructions as a result of colonisation. Campion utilises costuming to display the authority and power of the European culture, whilst also criticising its limitations. The natural setting is often juxtaposed with the Europeans dark, and structured clothing, which is ultimately entirely impractical. Ada wears her exuberant, yet dull Victorian clothing, whilst Stewarts clothing is often almost too small, confining and restricting. Her costuming immediately draws the intrigue of the locals, as does her fair skin, isolating her further. This use of costuming highlights how out of place the Europeans are, but also their ignorance of the realities of their environment. This is compared with the Maori s more natural, relaxed clothing that blends with the naturalistic environment. However, there are often aspects of European ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Movie rights are to be purchased prior to films being made. Arundel wants to come up with a decision to either purchase all the sequel rights for a studio s entire production during a specified period of time or purchase a specified number of major films. Arundel s profitability is dependent upon the price it pays for a portfolio of sequel rights. Our analysis of Arundel s proposal includes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More data on success probabilities may help to direct the course of action We would also like to have information about the willingness of production companies to sell sequel rights at a pre negotiated price. Action Plan: Given our analysis of the motion picture industry, we recommend that Arundel carefully select the major film studios from which they intend to purchase sequel rights. The net present value of hypothetical sequels taken from the available previous years shows not only that the industry is highly volatile, but also that certain production studios are more volatile than others in terms of their recent performance. In addition, some studios are consistently less profitable than others. (See NPV for Each Production Company chart in appendix) Since the success of film studios are relatively stable in the short term (see Rental Shares of Major Film Distributors table and graph) Because of this stability, it is possible for Arundel to approach more profitable studios with their offer to purchase sequel rights. Out of all the major film studios, only MCA Universal, Warner Bros., and The Walt Disney Company generate a positive net present value on a per film basis. However, according to casual inquiries, it is unlikely that any movie studio would enter negotiations with Arundel on a per film price that is less than 1 million. Instead, the film studios seem to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. The Theme Of Racism In Down At The Cross By James Baldwin The environment surrounding an individual determines reactions and character. Down at the Cross from The Fire Next Time is James Baldwin s memoir pertaining to his life experiences with racism. The author presents an original writing strategy which uses examples and details to reach the main goal of helping the reader discover the main points of the story. The rhetorical style for the second half of the novel furthermore aids Baldwin in his overall purpose of informing Blacks in the 1960 s of how White people, who are incapable of accepting and loving themselves, create a racist environment, which African Americans, despite fear and risk, can conquer with love and strategy. Upon my reflection on the writing, I was pleasantly surprised to find Baldwin has a perspective unlike any other theorist, because he has convinced me to believe with him how the end of racism can be found in the root cause of the issue. Because Caucasian people are uncomfortable and unconfident with themselves, they consistently persecute and destroy people of African descent. When James Baldwin says some argue Whites must accept Blacks, he counteracts this using procatalepsis suggesting, White people in this country will have quite enough to do in learning how to accept and love themselves and each other, and when they have achieved this which will not be tomorrow and may very well be never the Negro problem will no longer exist (Baldwin 22). • 21. The Atomic Bombing Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki Essay The atomic bombing of the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 is the most controversial military decision in the history of Air Power, and may even be the most controversial decision in history. The first of the bombings happened at Hiroshima, where the B 29 Superfortress Enola Gay dropped Little Boy, an Uranium based atomic bomb. Structural damage estimates vary, with some sources claiming the blast and fires destroyed about 90% of the city (History.com Staff Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki ) and some estimating a little more than a third of the buildings were destroyed or severely damaged ( The Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. ). Most sources estimate about a third of the population of the 300,000 person city died in the immediate explosion (Wright), with tens of thousands more dying in the subsequent days as a result of wounds and radiation. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki led directly to the unconditional surrender of the Japanese Empire and the end of World War 2, and indirectly caused the Cold War between the United States and the USSR. Initially, historians took Churchill and Truman s justifications that the bomb was dropped to end the war quickly, and that was the end of the argument. Throughout time, revisionists have challenged that notion and argued that the bombs were not necessary for ending the war in Japan in a timely fashion, and it was merely an unethical, immoral show of power to the Soviets at the expense of the Japanese ... The scene involves Scar who wants to kill his royal relatives by trapping them under the crowd of thousands running wildebeests. Occasionally, there s an effect that the directors want in a film that would be virtually impossible to do with traditional animation techniques, explains CGI supervisor Scott Johnston. That s where computer animation can sometimes make a difference. They created the leaders and the followers so logically, the followers had to follow the leaders but at the same time avoiding each other because they did not want the wildebeests to crash into each other. The next step was to match them into the background. The CGI crew built the 3 dimensional grid stages which matched the perspective and the look of the background which was going to be in the scene. Then they placed one of the simulations on the grid and replaced the small magnets with the wildebeests running. The different angles of the camera gave the audience the possibility to see the wildebeests running either over the camera or under or even zoomed in the crowd. In terms of color, the animators wanted the wildebeests to be slightly of different color so they gave them random wild colors. It was made with the purpose that the director now could say what exactly he liked or disliked and what he wanted to change in the particular wildebeest in the scene. When they put this scene in the film for a draft version, the shades of grey were applied to match the black and white film. And then in final color, they gave them each different coloring but within a very limited range of shading: some of them became slightly lighter grey, some of them darker grey. Exothermic Reactions Introduction: There are five types of chemical reactions that can occur; synthesis (A+B=C), decomposition(C=A+B), single replacement (A+BC=B+AC), double replacement (AB+CD=AD+CB) , and combustion. A combustion reaction consists of a hydrocarbon plus oxygen gas which yields carbon dioxide and water (CxHx +O2=CO2+H2O). Ester s book, Sound Connections, introduces many systems for teaching pitch and rhythm. One of his many points is, The syllables must connect very efficiently with the aural syntax of music, allowing the learner to easily link syllables to patterns before encountering notation. The next being The syllables must eventually link to musical symbols in a practical and intuitive manner. The last being, The syllables should be appropriate for use with all ages. I need to keep correcting in private, but praise in public. I acknowledge their hard work with awards, but those tend to have time restrictions often taking months or years after the incidents. Giving immediate recognition is a practice I need to adopt. It is not difficult telling someone Great job today or Good work but it is hard to get into that routine. I also realize that there must be a balance between recognition and praise to not overdo it and thereby making it meaningless. My hardest challenge will be #8 because it Challenges people to try out new and innovative ways to do their work. My subordinates must be given the opportunity to grow. If they don t see me letting go of the reigns to give them ownership, they will see my supervision as being a lord and not a leader. It will be tough to see them disappointed with the failure; that is what stops me from letting them have their own experiences in leadership. • 40. Social Comparison Essay On Fast When we want to evaluate something we really only have one tool to use: Comparison. Even with empirical, objective, means of measurement, without context, a measurement would mean nothing. Is your car fast? If you ve only ever driven a Yugo before, you might say it s pretty fast, but if you just took a ride in a Bugatti Veyron, you might have a new definition of fast. Social Comparison Theory is the idea that the same way you determine whether your car is fast, is the exact same way you determine your own attributes. We are constantly looking to others to evaluate and determine our adequacy. When we look to people of higher status it is called upward social comparison, when looking at those of lower status it s called downward social comparison. While social media and celebrity culture provide many opportunities for people to compare upwards, generally most people prefer to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 41. Sociological Analysis Of The Titanic Essay Sociological analysis of the Titanic When researching movies for my paper, I decided that the Titanic was the perfect option. Being that the movie was based on the true event of the RMS Titanic sinking, I knew I could also find a lot of research during the time of the Titanic to help strengthen my paper. The movie Titanic took place in the early 1900 s, a time rich in sociological issues. Their way of life was a lot different than ours today. Some major sociological concepts that were shown several times in the movie were, social stratification, gender inequality and sexism, inequality of income, and discrimination. During this time period people faced huge gaps in wealth, gender, class, and race. Gaps between the rich and poor were extreme. The wealthy were rich and the poor were in poverty. The middle class was not a common standing within society: you were either upper or lower class. It was very difficult to rise above the lower class standing, and easier to fall below the upper class line (Prezi web). Men dominated in almost all social standings; voting, ownership of land, professions, wealth, etc. Women were still viewed as property and in most ways, treated as such. The gap between the upper and lower class caused discrimination amongst them. Lower class was treated poorly by the upper class and seen as less worthy. In my paper I plan to include all of these sociological issues, and clearly connect them within the movie, Titanic. The movie Titanic was a drama, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. What Are The Negative Effects Of The Santa Ana By Joan Didion In her essay, Didion uses a very ominous and foreboding tone to convey the topic of the Santa Ana winds. From the very beginning of the essay, the reader is given a feeling that these Santa Ana winds possess a type of evil in them that seem to affect people for the worse. The reader is never allowed to look past the negative effects of the Santa Ana winds. I will explain how Joan Didion does this in the following examples. In order to give a greater sense of authenticity and awe, Didion utilizes a wide range of descriptive phrases. For example, There is something uneasy in the L.A. air this afternoon, some unnatural stillness, some tension. What it means is that tonight a Santa Ana will begin to blow, a hot wind from the northeast whining down through the Cajon and San Gorgonio Passes, blowing up sandstorms out along Route 66, drying the hills and the nerves to the flash point. Racism In Patricia Williams The Emperor s New Clothes Race and the different racial characteristics have been the main topic of many debates all over the United States and has been for a long time. The topic of race continues to stay relevant because of the way race is regarded. In the expert from Patricia Williams The Emperor s New Clothes she establishes multiple reasons on why and how racism is viewed in today s day and time. Williams makes very strong points and claims within the excerpt however one her most recognizable ones is on page 10 the first paragraph and last sentence Williams states The noisy, racial chasm still yawn darkly beneath us all, but we few brave souls glide gingerly above, upon a skim of hope, our bodies made light with denial, the black pond so dangerously and thinly iced with the conviction that talking about it will only make things worse. Williams claim in this is clear: not talking about racism will only continue to add to the fire which will only make the situation worse. Not talking about racism is letting a pot stir and allowing racism to grow beneath our noses. When we don t speak on racism it slows down the process of us advancing as a world. Many white people were taught that talking about racism is racist so they tend to shy away conversations that evolve around race without knowing they are involuntary apart of the problem by refusing to recognize the issue. Williams starts off by using her son as an example on how race is disregarded. Williams talks about how multiple white teachers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. The Cosmological Argument The Cosmological Argument An important argument to try and prove the existence of God is the Cosmological Argument brought on by observations of the physical universe, made by Saint Thomas Aquinas, a thirteenth century Christian philosopher. The cosmological argument is a result from the study of the cosmos; Aquinas borrows ideas from Aristotle to make this systematically organized argument. Aquinas first point begins with the observation that everything is moving. Aquinas says that everything that moves must be moved by another moving thing, which has to be moved by another moving thing and so on. This cannot be infinite though, because consequently the motion of the series would have no origin, and the origin of this series cannot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But David Hume, a Scottish philosopher, objected to Aquinas second point by arguing that if each individual link in the chain of causes and motions can be explained then there is no need for an additional explanation for the whole of the chain. The explanation of each part is enough of an explanation for the whole itself. But defenders say that the discovery of the Big Bang theory would be the beginning of the causes and motions in the universe and is not infinite, so infinite regress would not be possible. A third objection to the cosmological argument as a whole is that Aquinas insists that everything has a cause; if that is true, then what caused God? There being an uncaused cause would be a contradiction to Aquinas whole argument that everything has a cause yet God has no cause. But Aquinas defends his argument by saying that only everything in our universe has a cause because everything in our universe is a limited, dependent being. That still would require an uncaused, neither finite, nor dependent being unlike anything in our universe, God. Critics also object that the cosmological argument does not prove a loving and personal God, but Aquinas would probably respond by stating that this wouldn t prove his argument is wrong, only that it has a limited purpose. I think between the two arguments, Cosmological and Ontological, the cosmological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
