The Dog Is Dark And Satirical Humor
After watching You the Living, my favorite scene was when there were dogs because it added a different energy to the
scenes. In the scene with the raging woman and her husband, the dog felt fake and dead at first, but then it came alive. I think
the dogs were the main attention grabber in both scenes. The dragging dog was very surreal, cruel and yet funny. When I saw
the comment from Slant Magazine blog that Andersson s vision is dark and satirical humor and not yet entirely hopeless, I
thought of this dog scene because the dog was hopeless, but everyone was laughing. Throughout the whole scene, I was just
trying to see if he actually dragged a real dog. However, I think another element that added to the comical side of this cruelty
is the mechanical movement and the rhythm of the whine. Everything was so exact and robotic, yet realistic looking.
The scene with the guy playing the guitar and a moving exterior background became more fascinating after I watched the
behind the scenes. The moving background was already awkwardly amazing when I watched the film, but the behind the
scenes made me appreciate it more because they put in a lot of practice and preciseness. The behind the scene surprised me
in many ways, especially when the city perspective was revealed as miniature 2D paintings hanging in different order. That
was really unexpected and I ve never seen this technique before. Additionally, when the behind the scenes revealed that
Anderson painted his actors pale

The Vaccine Against Cowpox Also Gave Protection Against...
In 1796, Edward Jenner showed the world that the vaccine against cowpox also gave protection against the smallpox disease.
Ever since Jenner s discovery, the main principles of vaccines has gained more acceptance through the years of practice. In
1816, 20 years after Edward Jenner s discovery, Sweden would create a compulsory vaccine for smallpox, which will
eradicate the disease in many countries (Ortqvist et al). By noticing the long lasting effects of vaccinations in people, one can
understand the importance of a well informed society. Acta Paediatrica, a peer review medical journal organization, noted,

However, 100 children out of the one million were diagnosed with a rare side effect in which a section of the small intestine
would fold into another section called intussusceptions. Tetanus is a very serious bacterial infection that has become
extremely rare in the United States. If one develops the infection, he or she is still recommended to take the vaccination. The
reason for it is due to the toxin made by the disease that would affect the immune system in the long run. Hib, HPV, and
pneumococcal vaccines all help to improve the immune response better than natural infection (Holland). Certain vaccines are
highly recommended but sometimes they are not fully covered, leaving children suffering from possible diseases that are
preventable such as: smallpox, chickenpox, measles, hepatitis B, and many more. Moreover, being covered is not the only
problem. The shortage of childhood vaccines, especially in the United States, are due to the lack of manufacturing capacity,
lack of accurate data, and lack of communication. Between December 2007 and September 2009, the United States had a
lack of Hib vaccines, leaving a high number of children at the risk of infection (Esposito et al). In 1989, a measles epidemic
infected more than 18,000 people and killed 41 children in the U.S.. The outbreak occurred due to extremely low
immunization rates. Jon Cohen, a physician executive business, believes It was just a disaster waiting

Totalitarianism In The Handmaids Tale
Dystopian texts explore unfavorable future societies of the authors worst fears, a parallel understanding of an apparent
contemporary concept, constructing an unfamiliar perspective that is conceivable and relatable. The realization that the
prospect of a dystopian future is built upon the contingent impact from the present, a fabrication of actions and inactions
from collective judgments of society. This idea of a contingent impact is reflected to a significant extent in the dystopian text,
Handmaids Tale, written by Margaret Atwood in 1985. The novel entails adventures from the perspective of protagonist
Offred, a handmaid in a fragmented society run by misogynistic and theocratic totalitarian government. It explores a reality
in which a familiar concept of autonomy, sexual prejudice and oppression in the present is metamorphosed into a
domineering structural pillar in dystopian world. For these reasons, Atwood challenges the reader with an imaginative
creation of the future with a contingent dependence on the present, exemplifying these matters and intensifying the potential
future under the reign of a totalitarian society. The conspicuous and problematic concern, which identifies the contingent
impacts of the present in the future, is conveyed through diverse notions of autonomy. In modern society, the concept of
freedom and independence is advocated, conversely the ideal of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing Genesis Creation And The Norse Culture
Although a lot of other cosmogonic myths have presented creations as part of a natural process that has the clear
understanding that it is an act of divine and creative will. We all know there are several creation myths across different
cultures. It is known that every different culture even has its unique creation myth that also explains how life and world came
to be (Leonard McClure, 2004). The two myths I would talk about when it comes to this topic are Genesis creation (Hebrew
origin) of the Christian culture, and the Norse culture of Iceland (the Vikings). From the readings of both, both myths also
start with an emptiness where conflict and chaos may even eventually develop. The Genesis conflict is between God,
loneliness, blackness, emptiness, and the need to create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also nine classifications of creation myths, which most also include more than one motif.
There was a misleading image of the Vikings that made them be known as pagans with a hatred of the Christian Church.
What some people failed to realize was that the Vikings had many gods and found it to be no problem accepting Christian
god alongside their own. The Vikings encountered with Christianity through their raids, and as they began to settle in lands
with a Christian population, they also could adapt to Christianity much quicker. The Vikings had 14 major Gods. Their
appreciation is the cosmos is divided into three main levels which are, Asgard, Aesir, which is also the upper level where the
major gods such as Odin, along with the fertility gods, and the light levels lived. Midgard was known to be the middle level
where dwarves, giants, men, and even the dark elves lived. Niflheim was known to be the lower level, and well known as the
underworld. They called Niflheim the world of the evil dead because this was where the evil dead died the second death in

People s History Of The United States By Howard Zinn Essay
The book People s History of the United States by the author Howard Zinn represents the history to the readers in a different
perspective, making the readers look into the history in a difference lens making it insightful. What is a history? To answer
this question, we must first establish a commonality in language: namely, what is history? It is a continuous, systematic
narrative of past events as relating to a particular people, country, period, person which is usually written as a chronological
account. The author discusses about how the major events were recorded and mainly the stories which were untold to the
people and were left out of the mainstream history books. In the first few chapters he gives critical details about how
America was founded by Christopher Columbus and gradually moving into detail about how he killed hundreds of native
Indians in the process of capturing the country. The author then moves into giving the readers about hidden class struggles
and the period of time where racism was affecting a majority of the people. Howard Zinn also mentions about the wars, the
Vietnam war and the Civil war that had changed the lives of many in the past and how it has made a major impact in the past
and today to the people. Some of the details in the book are real life experiences by the author, because he is not only a writer
but had also served in the army in the world war two as a pilot, which makes the readers understand every detail of some
events as it is told

Nationalism In The 20th Century
Evaluate the political role of Nationalism in the 20th Century was it more important as a force for unification or
disintegration.
Nationalism can be described as a mix, multidimensional morally developed or created concept involving a shared common
identification with one s Nation. It is more on politically motivated towards working and maintaining self governance, or full
sovereignty, working towards to a specific land or a territory of historical significance to the group such as land and its
belongings. In simple Nationalism is a nation command and lead itself, free from foreign influence, it is the concept of self
rule. Nationalism is further formed towards maintaining and developing a Sovereignty based on shared features such as
religion, language, race, culture, or either political goals or a belief in a customary ancestry. So its pride towards nation s
achievements, and the concept in world history has shown positive and negative impact, moreover in a political dimension it
leads either unification or disintegration.
Well talking about the Nationalist moves of the countries in 20th century, what we can see is some countries started fighting
for its freedom. After Second World War, the Salt march by Indian National congress and Muslim league of India lead by

Commentary On The Article Civil Rites By Caroline Miller
In the article Civil Rites by Caroline Miller, she stated that civility has become a more or less elusive proposition. Although I
am not sure whether I over react about certain etiquette that I find uncomfortable, or if there is really a general dissolution of
civility in today s modern world. I d like to think not, but in reality of this may be true; civility has been long gone in today s
modern world, and some of the older ones that still exist, are either offensive or confusing.
Tipping should serve as a reward for good service; however, it is now compulsory rather than a proper way of etiquette. My
husband said that tipping etiquette in the United States is important and mandatory in some places. It s part of being
civilized, he said. I laughed at him because I thought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Christian College s ( Pcc ) Definition Of...
Intro
Understanding art is often thought of as being an unreachable goal, but art should not be considered arbitrary because it
influences the cultures and societies around us. The purpose of this paper is to define and also establish my opinions on
Pensacola Christian College s (PCC) definition of art, the bibliosophy of art, and Dr. Francis Schaeffer s criteria for art.
These topics are useful for artists as well as anyone else critiquing art, and can also serve as guidelines and standards for an
artist when they create art.
PCC s Definition of Art
PCC s definition of art is stated as the organized visual expression of ideas or feelings . I believe this definition correctly
reflects God s personality as an artist with its emphasis on the word organized. 1 Corinthians 14:40 states Let all things be
done decently and in order . This belief is consistently recognized throughout creation. While I agree with specifying the
word organized, I disagree that art should be considered completely visual, as this leaves out areas of art such as music,
performance, and writing. Overall, I believe that this definition captures art fairly well by explaining that art expresses
human emotions and ideas.
Bibliosophy of Art
The bibliosophy of art defines art is four parts which are the canon, communication, the client, and creativity. The canon
refers to the Bible and its authority in our life as an artist, communication defines our message as an artist, the client states
who we are

The Kitchen House Research Paper
Topic #2 Since God gave us free will, we decide what to do with it. Evil is evident in the world, and God does not control it.
Evil is the wicked or immoral part of someone or something.(The Dictionary of American Slang). Evil is shown throughout
The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom in numerous, dreadful acts that take place in Tall Oaks. These acts are performed
by the characters Mr. Waters, Rankin, and Marshall. The author wants to communicate that poor actions can ruin ones life.
Mr. Waters in the beginning of the novel is a great example of this. Mr. Waters is introduced as the tutor of Marshall. Later
the novel reveals that Mr. Waters becomes an intruder that has been raping Marshall. We see this in chapter seven by the
stream when Mr. Waters says to Marshall, You want me to take your little sister next time instead of you? (Grissom ... Show

While hanging out with Rankin, Marshall starts to suffer the consequences. Marshall begins to take on evil ways like him
and becomes even more secluded from his family. We see this in chapter seventeen when Belle says, Papa says Rankin got it
in for Miss Martha and he doing everything he can to turn her boy against her. (Grissom p.122). This shows how Rankin is
already trying to transform Marshall into a different person. Once Rankin takes Marshall under his wing, Marshall starts to
form a taste for liquor at a young age. In chapter seventeen Belle says, He s letting that boy drink liquor, and young as he is,
Papa says, Marshall s already got a taste for it. (Grissom p.122). This shows how much of an impact Rankin has on Marshall
s life letting him drink under the influence at such a young age. Hanging with Rankin and drinking liquor carries out
throughout the whole novel. The liquor gets the best of Marshall, turning him into an alcoholic for the rest of his life. While
drunk Marshall performs atrocious

of 10,267 on Monday, before gaining a little to Friday s close of 10,325. The stagnant incomes in 1929 observed a 4 percent
drop in inflation adjusted disposable income of agricultural workers whereas the top bracket class observed a steady gain
whereas in 2008 (Waggoner J, 2008), inflation adjusted income for middle class workers dripped by 1 percent. The
concentration of wealth in 1929 was mainly in the hands of stock speculators (Tomkins L M, 2008) whereby the richest 1
percent of Americans owned approximately 40 percent of the country s wealth. However the current figures reveal that in
2008 the richest 0.1 percent of Americans constitutes only 11.6 percent of the total nation s income (Calbreath D, 2008). As
per the information given by Amity Shale s in her The Forgotten Man: A New History of the Great Depression , November
1933, figures reveal that unemployment rate had increased to over 23% whereas in the current times it s just 5%.
GOVERNMENT BOND RATES Stocks performed very badly during the Great Depression but on the contrary government
bonds did fairly well. During depression Bond prices did rise tremendously as bond yields came down sharply. For example,
the prime corporate bond output level fell from 4.59% in September 1929 to 3.99% in May of 1931. By June of 1938

in case of an assault. This will provide confirmation for investors that the company is reliable and has proper protection

As society grows in knowledge and fraudsters become just as educated in how to perform criminal acts against individuals

Essay On Supremacy Clause
Supremacy Clause Are South Coast s fleet rules preempted by the federal Clean Air Act? (Cheeseman 79) The Supremacy
clause of the U.S. Constitution establishes that the federal constitution, and federal law generally, take precedence over state
laws, and even state constitutions. While in this particular matter, the statutes of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
would generally trump the state level regulations of organizations such as the California Air Resources Board (CARB),
however the EPA has also mandated that The setting of these pollutant standards was coupled with directing the states to

standards. (EPA, 2015) The standards in questions are called National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) ... Show

Often times these more stringent standards are put in place by the EPA as federal standards after research and testing has
been accomplished by those states. An example of this is the required use of Catalytic converters on pollution controlled
motor vehicles in 1974 in California, two years later in 1976, the EPA required the use of Catalytic converters on all
pollution controlled motor vehicles nationwide. Due to the fact that South Coast s standards are more stringent than federal
standards, the association would find that the Supreme Court is more likely to uphold the decisions of the lower courts; at
that time, it is then set at the highest level court and future court cases will have to look at that precedent as the standard. If
the South Coast standard were set at a lower level than the federal standard established by the EPA, then this is a situation
where the Supremacy clause of the Constitution would come into play in order to mandate compliance with federal law.

Advantages Of Four Point System For Fabric Inspection
Why Four Point System preferable for Fabric Inspection?
The word of Inspection in garments engineering mainly identifies to the visual examination or review/scrutinize of raw
materials (like fabric, accessories, trims etc). It is an imperative process in any apparel industry to keep away from rejects
due to low fabric or accessories quality and precautions to remove unexpected loss/defects of finished goods.
The quality of a finished item in apparel industry is mostly controlled on the quality of fabric when it is collected as a roll
from mills. Even it occupies 60/70 percent of total garments cost. Apparel industry should take some defensive actions to
ensure quality full fabric is being used in their items and set up fabric inspection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even the most exceptional/excellence manufacturing methods cannot compensate for defective materials.
* Garments producer: Have to inspect minimum 10% per color or more of any consignment when they got and assess them
based on a four point system. By this process, they can minimize fabric related quality troubles before it moved to
production.
* Fabric mill: Have to inspect 100% of finished goods; defects must be recorded for each roll.
Usually four methods may be followed for fabric inspection process.
1) Graniteville 78 system.
2) Dallas system.
3) 4 point system
4) 10 point system
But, above all 4 point system is most popular and broadly used as it is very simple to applicable, educate and learn. Let s find

To use this system someone has to know following procedure:
1) Vast idea on nature of fabric defects (how a defect looks and its appearance)
2) Fabric inspection method or preparation
3) Criteria of giving penalty points based on defects and defect length.
4) Calculation method of total penalty points for total defects found in a fabric roll or consignment.

Cherokee Native American Indians and the Trail of Tears
What made the Cherokee culture distinctive towards others in the Trail of Tears time period was that they had a more
peaceful, harmless outlook on the situation. In 1814, Andrew Jackson who would eventually become the President of the
United States, had his and his whole army s lives on the line in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend to the British forces when the
Cherokee allied with them to win the battle. Surprisingly, 16 years later when Jackson was President of the United States, he

They were walking mostly through moist valleys and forests which provided some nutrition and shelter. The weather was
overall favorable for the Cherokee during the Trail of Tears. The rivers were also helpful to the Cherokee as a source of food
and basis for navigation.
Some may wonder why the Cherokee did not fight for their land. Historians suggest that the Cherokee knew America was a
more powerful force. They were also a peaceful tribe that didn t wish to start a war, so they instead chose to go and find new
land. Based on their belief system they valued peace, not violence. This made the Cherokee distinctive to other tribes
involved in the Trail of Tears, because they peacefully left while the other tribes planned to fight until they realized they had
a small chance of winning a battle against Jackson and America. The Cherokee knew that America was acting harsh and
cruel towards them, but they didn t believe strongly in acts of violence. The Cherokee would also communicate with Jackson
occasionally (not often at all) about their progress and health during their voyage. After their long, treacherous voyage, they
reached their new land where they had to resettle, and had to start all over again.
When the Cherokee resettled, they were a different group with no leaders; everybody became the same during their voyage to
new settlement. The Cherokee then became more civilized, and began to fade

Cons Of Animal Conservationism
Third, as mentioned a few times in this paper, conservationism views animals as natural resources for the consumption of
humans. Consumption meant literally and figuratively, in that animals are valued for their entertainment value at the zoo for
humans to consume . In Constructing Consumables and Consent , author Cathy B. Glenn discussed the two common and
codependent corporate discursives in factory farms, yet, also used by conservationists like PNM. First, doublespeak , a word
of phrase that deliberately obscures language to hide the harmful truth. Stakeholders, like PNM, are pros at coming up with

Of course, there are real dangers our planet faces of running out of vital resources to sustain the human population. But,
conservation of resources, frames itself in a positive light, and masks the reality that conservationism is purely for human

problematic. For instance, amid my visit to the zoo, I heard two zoo goers speak to each other about, Why is that Tazmanian
Devil just sleeping and the other replied, speaking for the animal, I am just taking a Saturday afternoon nap . This is
problematic because the animal is seen as happily taking a nap and it is not considered that perhaps the animal is bored and
does not want to be there. As conservationists, PNM would approve of speaking animals because it distances the zoo goer

Most maintenance and security problems are occurred due to lack of guidance. Personnel assigned to the company are
unaware of the many variables that effect one of the company s primary forms of communication, both external and internal.
Needs
The lack of guidance for use of computers and the LAN is contributing to the requirement for excessive maintenance of the
company s hardware, software and LAN. By addressing this problem immediately, we can prevent hackers from interdicting
the company LAN, set a baseline for the company information security plan, and alleviate unscheduled maintenance on
network infrastructure.
Scope
The proposed plan includes a detailed assessment of the methods, costs and materials, personnel requirements, feasibility,
and expected results.

Benjamin Bazman Analysis
In modern life, we are offered a wide variety of genres that require the reader and write to have a complex knowledge of
social and institutional structures. Bazerman offers an example of what seems like a fairly simple genre junk mail but
demonstrates just how complex it can be:
Interpreting even the most ordinary junk mail solicitation for a credit card requires an understanding among other things of
the postal system, folded paper envelopes, advertising and direct mailing, promised inducements, the modern bank and credit
card system, modern application forms, store credit card transactions, monthly statements, internal record keeping, check
payments, and competition among various credit providers (Bazerman 1997).
Genres allows us to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As more subjects find their way into a letter like writing letters to deities instead of people and become recognisable, the
genre itself expands so that distinctive types of letters are established. As people begin to recognise these different
conversations they can carry out over long distances, models are established for how to write about a particular subject; these
models allow for the reader and writer to determine what roles they are playing. Historical scholarship has shown that these
varieties of letters became strongly typified in organisations. Through the typification of letters, organizations can extend
their power over greater distances, reinforce relationships, and even create new relationships through indirect contact with
third parties (usually through letters of reference). The abundance of letter writing practices that came from the ancient
civilizations made way for letters to become a powerful way of communication for the early Christian Church (Herrick). To
begin with, the books of the New Testament outside of the gospels are in the forms of letters. The letters explore everything
from narratives of miracles to prayers to warnings. The different subjects are told through letters and are further explored

Propaganda In Animal Farm
George Orwell, the pseudonym of english author Eric Arthur Blair, was an influential author of novels, novellas, and essays
that criticized the rise and practices of authoritarian governments. One of his most revered works, Animal Farm, is hailed as a
brilliant piece that satirizes the statues of Stalinism by allegorizing its tumultuous rise and the harsh, often lethal loyalty
Stalinism demands of its followers. One of the hallmarks of Stalinist rule is its frequent use of propaganda. In his novella,
Animal Farm, Orwell presents the use of propaganda in a Stalinist society through the deification of a leader, the use of
scapegoating against an exiled revolutionary and against the vices of man; and exposes the practice of engendering fear into
the population of Animal Farm. In Animal Farm, the leader of Animal Farm, Napoleon, frequently uses self deification
tactics to elevate his status above the working animals of the farm. Orwell stated that Napoleon was always referred to in
formal style as our Leader, Comrade Napoleon, and the pigs liked invent for him such titles as Father of All Animals, Terror
of Mankind, Protector of the Sheep fold, Ducklings Friend, and the like (Orwell 93). These titles expressed that Napoleon
was a benevolent, powerful, and god like figure, which elevated him over the common animal on Animal Farm. His titles
also projected a feeling of superiority, which made the animals fear his presence and the presence of other pigs. As the pigs

Rpac Case Study
I would like to take a moment to update you on two changes that were approved by the Massachusetts RPAC Board of
Trustees at their meeting last week: 1. The Trustees voted to end the current 70/30 RPAC split agreement with NAR. You
may recall that NAR recently amended their own RPAC policy to allow all states to either change the split amount or to end
the split entirely. After discussing and reviewing our own fundraising data from the past several years, the Trustees decided
to end the 70/30 RPAC split. This will allow RPAC to keep additional funds in state while still meeting the NAR fundraising
goal. We will only be sending NAR contributions made to NAR PAF (typically corporate contributions) or NAR PAC to
NAR. Therefore, we will meet our NAR fundraising goal primarily with NAR PAF or soft dollar investments. Per NAR

The Seven Tips For Effective Business Writing
Coherence is one of the seven tips for effective business writing. It allows flow of thoughts to be logical and easy to follow.
Analyzing purpose, examining reader s need and outlining before writing are some of the ways to make writing coherent. In
addition to these, there are several other techniques that can help to structure effective paragraphs and essays.
One way to write coherently is to write with unity. This can be achieved by establishing a main idea and summarizing it into
a single sentence called topic sentence. Any sentences or paragraphs that are irrelevant to topic sentence should be omitted.
This will make writing unified and coherent.
In addition, summary sentences can be used to make writing more coherent. Summary sentences are usually present near the
beginning of a document and they highlight the main ideas present in the documents. In such documents, there is a separate,
formal summary section emphasizing main ideas that are relevant to readers. Each of these ideas is then placed in a separate
paragraph and each of these paragraphs begins with a topic sentence. Summary sentences are also placed in the conclusion.
However, it should act as a reminder and should not sound repetitive.
The principle discussed above is based on deductive structure where reader s need is placed first. Readers are interested in
recommendation and findings rather than the process. Hence, this structure requires to put research findings first and then the
process. However,

The Importance Of Friendship In The School Stories
The school story is an important, recurring sub genre of children s literature, and is specifically rooted in British culture,
where boarding school are more common and provide an enclosed, secular setting to the characters adventures, often
becoming a character in its own right, and acting as a stage for the protagonists to grow, learn, fit in or stand out, deal with
and challenge authority. The hero is rarely alone; surrounded by the opposing and balancing forces of responsible adults and
mischievous peers. From Tyke Tyler s Danny Price to Harry Potter s Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, friends in the
school story are the centre of the protagonist s world, providers of balance, perspective, conflict and support. For the young
reader, these friendships suggest the need for company and intimacy in order to succeed at school and in life, and can even be
seen as guidelines showing children how to fit in and strike their own friendships. While this effect on the reader s life can be
seen as positive, providing them with positive role models and examples of kindness and sharing, literary friendships often
reveal, upon closer analysis, some darker and somewhat unhealthy dynamics. For young readers, stories act as a window to
the world, and often an example to follow. The struggles and successes their characters go through become a way to identify,
empathize and learn. The school story, with its strong representation of friendship and early social life, can thus help their

Generation After Generation, In Different Countries Of
Generation after generation, in different countries of the world, there has always been different styles of bodily expression.
Dance is a special form of art which movement of the body creates. One of the most delicate types of dance is ballet, a form
that evokes great emotion. For Martha Graham, ballet was not only a dance: it was a way to express a fear or happiness with
gestures created by the body. Scholars have recognized Graham as having made revolutionary changes in dance: in form,
subject matter, and theme. Martha Graham was one of the most influential figures in American modern dance, and her
techniques and styles continue to be practiced today. She became widely known throughout all ages and decades. As time

Martha knew that practice was the basis of all good dance and, therefore, a fundamental. Graham s intense belief in practice
aided in forming such a unique technique. To practice means to perform, in the face of all obstacles, some act of vision, of
faith, of desire, Practice is a mean of inviting the perfection desired. (Martha Graham) It is said that Martha worked on her
falls for fifty years, and they grew more beautiful and complex each time she performed them. This technique is not the only
one she worked to perfection. However, it provides a quality example to her devotion to the art of dance. Graham is
considered one of the major and most influential dancers in America. Graham s craving for dance gave her the strength and
determination she needed to become one of the best. Her incredible emotions changed the dancing world, not only in her
style as a dancer, but in her innovative style of choreography (182).
Graham was born in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, on May 11, 1894 (Pratt 8). She was the daughter of Jane Beers and George
Graham and the oldest of three daughters. She also had a brother named William Henry Graham, but he died of scarlet fever
at eighteen months. This devastated the family, especially Martha s father. George had always wanted a son; once they were

Why Do Mammals Increase Surface Area
All organisms require a large surface area in their gas exchange system, having a larger surface area to volume ratio increases
the efficiency on gas exchange. Each of the 3 organisms, diving mammal, fish and aquatic insects all have a large surface
area and have different ways of increasing this. Diving mammals increase their surface area by folding the tissue on the
alveoli of the gas exchange mechanism fold back on itself, these fold in the alveoli increase the surface area. Fish have
filaments and lamellae in the gills which are very long and thing increasing the surface area to volume ratio. The filaments in
the gills fold copious times and then the lamellae found inside the filaments also found numerous times increasing the

Psychosocial And Cognitive Learning Theories
Psychosocial and Cognitive learning are just a few of the theories that describe the makeup of human development and
behavior. Psychosocial theories explore the relationship between the social environment and an individual s psychological
condition (Crawford and Hawford, 2011). Whilst Cognitive Learning Theory explains certain behavioral responses of people
based on their understanding and mental representation of what is happening at the present time. This theory also explores a
person s everyday interaction within their environment and recognizes various social treatments as having an influential
impact on a child s development (Crawford and Walker, 2010). More specifically, this review of literature will be focusing on
key aspects of Psychosocial and Cognitive Learning theories through the Attachment Theory and Piaget s work respectively.
Attachment theory is a psychological, evolutionary and ethological theory concerning relationships with humans, (Becknel,
2012). John Bowlby initially developed the Attachment Theory in 1930, however, this theory was further extended in the
1950s through to the 1980s when Bowlby collaborated with Mary Salter Ainsworth (Bowlby and Ainsworth, 1992). Bowlby
theorized that in order for a child s social and emotional behavior to develop normally, a child must develop at least one
relationship with a primary caregiver. This attachment must occur within the first three years of the infant s life and be with a
caregiver that is consistently

Music During The Baroque Era
Music during the Baroque era was regarded as a powerful form of communication that could invoke emotions in the
listeners. This philosophical belief was derived from a revival of the ideas of the Greco Roman culture, and as a result,
composers believed that they could also affect their listeners through the power of melody, harmony, rhythm, and stylistic
details. The emphasis on communication was reflected in the major styles and components that were used throughout
Baroque compositions. Baroque music is characterized by the composers attention to detail, such as contrast in dynamics,
ornamentation, and the emphasis on bass line. These characteristics of the Baroque era are reflected in Antonio Vivaldi s
compositions. Known as one of the most popular pieces in Baroque repertoire, Vivaldi s The Four Seasons, a violin concerto,
reveals how composers of the Baroque period used different techniques to invoke emotion through the powerful
communication of music. The Four Seasons perfectly represents the Baroque period because of Vivaldi s elaborate style,
developmental techniques, and theme of emotional impact and contrast. During the Baroque period, composers tried to
convey emotions through contrasts in tonality, idiomatic writing, and ornamentation. The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia
stated that the baroque period was one of stylistic duality, and it was an era that displayed emotional extremes. Major and
minor tonality surfaced, as well as idiomatic writing ( Baroque, In

Consequences of Vietnamese Victory Against the French in...
Assess the consequences of the Vietnamese victory against the French for Indochina in the periods 1954 1964.
The Vietnamese victory against the French at the battle of Dien Bien Phu in 1954 brought about dramatic changes to
Indochina. These changes took place in the Geneva Conference which shortly happened after the battle of Dien Bien Phu.
General Vo Nguyen Giap and Ho Chi Minh who were the Vietminh s leader had only one goal and that was to unify Vietnam
and declare independence from colonial rule but however their goals were not achieved at the end of the Geneva Conference
due to a number of reasons.

The Soviets were more concerned about the security situation in Europe while China feared being dragged into another
Korea style confrontation against the US in Indochina and therefore pressured the Vietminh to accept the division of
Vietnam. The result of the tensions at the conference due to behind the scenes pressures and secret meetings was the Geneva
Agreement of 1954. It was a compromise which satisfied nobody. This would soon lead to a second Indochina war due to the
involvements of the U.S who sought to spread nationalism and anti communist ideas throughout Vietnam and the Soviet and
China who supported the Communist North.
The historian Stanley Karnow made a comment that America had a strict desire to not be committed to anything being signed
at Geneva because of the fact that US Secretary of State Dulles ordered the US delegation chief, Bedell Smith, to remain
aloof and make no concessions to the Communists. Dulles knew, suggests Karnow, that whatever was going to come out of
Geneva was going to be unsatisfactory.
The Geneva Conference produced no durable solution to the Indochina conflict, only a military truce that awaited a political
settlement, which never really happened. So the conference was merely an interlude between two wars or rather, a lull in the
same war
This comment made by Karnow is true as

The Search for Truth in Plato s Allegory of the Cave and Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio
The novel Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson has many themes that present themselves throughout the book. One such
recurring theme is a search for truth. The characters in the book do not fully realize that they are searching for truth, but they
do feel a vague, indescribable thing that pushes and prods their minds to actualize a higher plane of thought. This search for a
higher plane by the characters of Winesburg nearly parallels another literary work of ancient Greek origin Plato s Allegory of

Life for the prisoners goes on this way without occurrence until one of them is freed, led up outside the cave, and shown the
real world. The freed person will realize that the truth of the shadowed reality is actually a falsehood. After this realization
the person who visited the upper world is returned to imprisonment in the cave. Her eyes have to adjust to the darkness of the
cave once again. However, this adjustment naturally takes a long time. As a result, the once free person can no longer see the
shadows as well as she did before her release into the upper world. To the people who have remained in the cave, it seems as
though going into the upper world has destroyed her faculty for seeing reality. Some of the captives then say that trying to
reach the outer world is harmful, and that anyone caught trying to loose themselves or another person for the purpose of
reaching the outside will be punished. Plato says that the cave symbolizes the world of sight and the outside represents the
world of knowledge. Plato also instructs people to interpret the journey upwards to be the ascent of the soul into the
intellectual world. Plato s belief is that in the world of knowledge the idea of good appears, and that humans should strive to
reach this goodness through philosophical thought.
The connection between Winesburg, Ohio and the Allegory of the Cave presents itself in the very first passage, The Book of
the Grotesque. In this first

Orientalism In Jane Eyre
Jane Eyre (1847) has been considered one of the classic English texts which celebrates the arrival to selfhood of Jane from
the state of an uncared for orphan to a governess of a rich household and eventually as an heiress of Ferndean. English
literature (as all other literatures of the world) has certain canonical texts, which are widely acclaimed and accepted as
classics. In the classics, we expect to find the finest embodiment of a culture. However, in the post colonial era literature is
often read in a contrapuntal way to uncover the gaps. According to Said, such a reading bears witness to the worldliness of

All I have to say about A Rose for Emily is that she was a crazy person! Faulkner is a really worthy and famous writer that

words were published in the newspaper the following day, it was recognized for its brilliance; in later years, Faulkner s

Critique Of An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge
Critique of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge
Summary of Major Ideas In An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, Ambrose Bierce tells the story of Peyton Farquhar, a man
who is about to be hanged for aiding the Confederacy during the Civil War. In the moments before his hanging, he
reminisces about scheming to set a bridge on fire in order to prohibit the advancement of Union soldiers, which is why he is
being hanged. Peyton then begins plotting his escape and the reader is tricked into thinking he escapes his execution and
makes it safely to his house, when in reality he is actually hanged.
Critical Evaluation First, Bierce effectively portrays imagery through his thorough description of the setting at Owl Creek
Bridge. He starts by describing a man standing on a railroad bridge, gazing into the water several feet below with his hands
tied and a rope around his neck. This really gives the reader the view and the physical feeling from the man s perspective.
Bierce also explains the various positions of the soldiers on the bridge and how their stances would have looked. For
example he writes, A sentinel at each end of the bridge stood with his rifle in the position known as support, that is to say,
vertical in front of the left shoulder, the hammer resting on the forearm thrown straight across the chest a formal and
unnatural position, enforcing an erect carriage of the body (Bierce, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, 183). As a soldier in
the Union Army, Bierce could

Effects Of Isolation In Bartleby
Effects of Isolation on an Individual In Melville s Bartleby Many of traumatizing and devastating events that have taken

isolation on an individual affects one s mind, alters his or her ability to exercise cognitive control, and sometimes even lead
to violence. Prolonged isolation is physically bad on individuals, particularly mentally. Isolation interferes with everyday
functioning, such as sleep patterns, attention and logical and verbal reasoning (Bond). In this novella, Bartleby seems to

The Allocation Of School Funds
Allocation of School Funds The case study involves the allocation of school funds to employ three, possibly six, new
personnel to assist a high school as it continues to grow as part of a recruitment effort. Being a fine arts magnet program, the
school s departments have varying needs and requests for the new positions. Specifically speaking, the fine arts department
insists on adding a staff member, the science department needs a physics instructor, the music department wants to add an
experienced strings professional, the English department has two members on the verge of retirement, and the athletic
director requests two more coaches or he will resign. (Ubben, Hughes Norris, 2011, p. 374) The principal must employ
strategies that will aid in the overall decision making process and prepare for the implementation of the new positions while
providing a solid recommendation to the district central office all within a three week time frame. As described in the
Rational Decision Making: Steps in Systematic Problem Solving, Figure 3.1, the first step in making a rational decision is to
define the problem (Ubben, Hughes Norris, 2011, p. 48). In this case, we know this involves how the school budget should
be allocated to decide who and how many positions to create for the upcoming school year. With the problem clearly defined,
the principal must next analyze the problem. The first step would include analyzing the current budget allocation to

Living Inside The Large City
Geneva
This is my home in Geneva. My family lives in a manor near a lake, and about a league outside of the large city, because we
don t like living inside the large bustling city, which currently has a population of around 37000. [1] I am about to leave
home to continue my education. I am going to miss my family and friends here, but I need to pursue my dreams, and I could
always visit home if I miss it. Pursuing science and philosophy has been a dream of mine since I was a small child, and saw a
tree struck by lightning. [ch. 2] I can finally satisfy this lust more so than I had by reading every one of those old books about
the wonders of philosophy and alchemy.

[3] To put it in my own words, Mont Blanc, the supreme and magnificent Mont Blanc, raised itself from the surrounding
aiguilles, and its tremendous dome overlooked the valley. [ch. 9] I had thought I saw the monster, but the monster had seen
me as well. He confronted me in the valley and told me his life story of everything he could remember from after his
creation. I can t help but feel sorry for this creature that I had brought into life so miserable.
I am in England now, which is just a resting point on my journey. I am with my friend best friend, Henry Clerval. I have
decided to make a wife for the monster, and need to find a place to do so. But I shall remain in London for a few months. It is
nice to visit these places that I have heard of even in Geneva, such as Greenwich, which has recently been established as the
prime meridian for all maps. [4] I wish I could be happy, at least for Henry s sake, but every time I come close to being
happy, I think of poor William and Justine, the deaths of whom I feel responsible for, and I cannot feel happy knowing what I
had done. [ch. 19]
At the advice of someone who once stayed in my family s house in Geneva, I have decided to go to Scotland, where I will set
up my lab and finish my goal, specifically in the Orkneys Islands, which are small, fertile, remote islands. [5] I have picked a
small island that is just a small rock with water beating it on all

Generation Gaps in Flannery s A Good Man is Hard to Find
The use of symbolism that emphasizes a major gap between the two generations, as well as religion, theme, and imagery
along with an intriguing story plot make Flannery s A Good Man is hard to Find one of America s classic short stories.
Imagery is widely used in O Connor s story, which makes the characters and surroundings seem lifelike. In the depiction of
the grandmother the reader can visual see the woman sitting in the car waiting on the others to arrive. Her collar and cuffs
were white organdy trimmed with lace and at her neckline she had penned a purple spray of violets containing a sachet.
These are a few phrases of description that O Conner used to describe the old ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They both agreed that a good man is hard to find. The children and the ways of the grandmother symbolized the division
between the generations in the story. The children, June Star and John Wesley, represent a new generation of unruly and
disrespectful people. On the other hand, the grandmother represents the strong, southern heritage and stubborn godly beliefs.
The two conflict when they discuss going to Tennessee rather than go to Florida, which is what the grandmother wants to do.
June Star, who can read the grandmother like a book, remarks after John Wesley told his grandmother to stay at home if she
did not want to go to Florida, She wouldn t stay at home for a million bucks. Afraid she d miss something. She has to go
everywhere we go. This is a prime example of the loss of respect the children had for the grandmother. The grandmother
does nothing but reply, Alright, Miss. The generation gap creates a stir, but the outcome of the two coinciding might be
positive. Religion is a crucial point of the story. Coming to the end of the story, The Misfit and the grandmother are alone
together talking. The Misfit s responses to the grandmother s prayers advice reveal that these two individuals are on two very
different levels with concern to religion. The Misfit has a much deeper understanding of religion and his belief system than
does the grandmother. As the two continue in conversion, the Misfit asks the grandmother if it seems right that Jesus was

Life Has Learned In My Life
At the age of six I had not given much thought about life and death, but this day changed that. As a baby, I cannot imagine all
the things I did that put myself in danger. I was completely unaware of the consequences of my actions. As a child, I was
playful, innocent, and cheerful. Throughout my years of growing up I have learned many lessons through life. Only a few
events happened before this one that I can remember. On my 6th birthday, life could have been lost, and from that I learned
to always be careful and that life can change in an instant. First, I woke up Saturday afternoon. Since it was Saturday, I slept
longer than usual. Today was the day chosen to celebrate my birthday, which was actually a few days before. It was my 6th
birthday party. My parents and I decided that the party would take place at our home. We invited all our neighbors and
friends. I was young, energetic, and ready to enjoy life. Next, I got out of my Rugrats sheet covered bed. I headed down the
narrow and white hallway to the living room. I greeted my parents and had a small breakfast. I ate scrambled eggs and toast
for breakfast. After eating I asked my parents if I could ride my bike with friends before coming back home. My parents
agreed that was ok. I went into the garage to get my blue, new, Mongoose bicycle. My bicycle was a gift from my parents,
which I received on my birthday. After returning home from bike riding, I got an hour of rest before the party was ready to
begin. I exited

Examples Of Ethical Issues In News
Ethical issues are situations which have positive and negative effects. TV news programmes try to be as objective, fair and
accurate when presenting their stories to the public but what does it actually mean. Objectivity means not being bias,
judgemental or prejudice when presenting the news. Fairness means that the information is free from discrimination while
accuracy means the facts are true and free from error. In other words, the news stories that reporters make should not have
personal opinions towards an issue. This is so that the news stories, that are shown to the public, are neutral and unbiased.
The New Zealand television industry have three main news programmes. One news, owned by TVNZ, which is owned by
the government. Three news, owned by media works, which is owned by the government and prime news, owned by sky

they should care. this means that the issues and two opinions or sides to it, which has resulted in being an ethical issue. The
person himself will have to decide which side they believe is right and and which side is wrong. This opinion should not be
used by reporters when representing the news. the right side is ethical while the wrong side is said to be unethical. Ethics has
everything to from feeling, to beliefs and behaviour. Objectivity, fairness and accuracy are issues in news reporting because
the feelings, beliefs and behavior of the reporter should not convey the issues that they are reporting. This means that their
news story should not lean to one side of the argument, or the other. This would lead to the story being opinionated and
biased. The story should be neutral and using a language that does not convey the reporters opinions to the topic. Reporters
can do this by not characterising people in ways good and

Robert Stinnett s The Pearl Harbour Deception
Robert Stinnett is a former sailor and served in the US Navy during World War II. The perspective that Robert Stinnett
presents regarding the Pearl Harbour attack which will be discussed within this report is that he believes, upon extensive
historical research, not only did FDR have prior knowledge of the impending Japanese attack on the US naval base Pearl
Harbour, he more consequently, allowed the attack to take place. One highly discussed reason why Robert Stinnett attained
this perspective regarding FDR s prior knowledge was due to the fact that FDR wanted to provoke the Japanese into an
attack, so that America could reciprocate with her own declaration of war. In an interview conducted on the AntiWar Radio
and KAOS Radio Station

reasoning for his own perspective on the matter discussed within the book. He confirms his reasoning with the fact that when
his book Day of deceit hit seller s shelves, almost immediately, NSA began withdrawing records regarding Pearl Harbour
from public records. The fact that Stinnett has gone to many different lengths to prove his perspective superior, demonstrates

Personal Statement On Personal Responsibility
Personal responsibility is holding you accountable for all your actions and decisions. Being personally responsible means
you take ownership of what you do in and with your life. This means from the time you wake up until you go to bed at night,
your life is your responsibility and yours alone. Your values, morals, and beliefs are all contributing factors in how you view
being personally responsible. If you have been raised and taught to believe that you should consider your actions at all times,
then responsibility becomes second nature to you . For some it may be a little more difficult to grasp this concept. What we
need to remember is that personal responsibility is important in every aspect of life . In college one has to take personal
responsibility very seriously. I began my college education in my early thirties. I had been out of school for quite some time
and knew that I faced a real challenge. I had to purpose in my mind that I was going to do whatever it took to reach my
academic goals. Starting out I faced several disadvantages , from lack of financial aid, to self doubt. I had to take charge of
what was my dream and find a way to make it happen. I went to the college after obtaining my GED and just laid it all out on
the line. Once I received my first class schedule I felt I was on my way. That very first class night I had an eye opening
moment. I realized that this was going to take a lot of hard work and determination. I found out quickly that not everyone

Color Purple Symbolism
Symbolism in The Color Purple
Alice Walker s Pulitzer Prize winning novel, The Color Purple, tells the story of a young black woman in rural Georgia over
thirty years in the first half of the twentieth century. Through her letters to God and her sister Nettie, the protagonist, Celie,
shares her struggles against physical, sexual, emotional and verbal abuse. Through Celie s story and the stories of the other
people in her life, the novel explores the themes of racism, sexuality, spirituality, and gender roles. Walker enriches the story
and advances these themes through the use of symbols such as the sewing of quilts and pants; music; and the use of colors.

Sewing quilts and pants provides Celie a way to focus her energy on creative production. This provides her independence
and growth much like music provides the same opportunities to Shug Avery and Mary Agnes. Music however also has a dark
side in the rural Georgia society and members of the community see it as dark and seductive. This view of music and
musicians liberates the women and provides them with sexual power of men. Lastly, colors are important symbols in the
novel. In particular, purple, the novels namesake, represents Celie s fully developed spirituality and an appreciation for God

A Life Event That Changed My Life
As I am writing/typing this journal based on a life event, which changed my outlook on life, I actually come across more
than several experiences. However, the one event that gave me an outlook on being strong and tenacious was the birth of my
last child. See, I have five children; they are three boys and two girls. I tell people that I met all the time that God started me
with a girl and I ended up with my last girl. My daughter, who is now three, was born prematurely at 36 weeks. Now, as the
reader, you are wondering how this impacts my life. What is the influence of academic work and goals? Allow me to explain
my theory of this experience. As I sit in the hospital for four days in labor, and praying that our daughter is healthy when

  • 2. The Dog Is Dark And Satirical Humor After watching You the Living, my favorite scene was when there were dogs because it added a different energy to the scenes. In the scene with the raging woman and her husband, the dog felt fake and dead at first, but then it came alive. I think the dogs were the main attention grabber in both scenes. The dragging dog was very surreal, cruel and yet funny. When I saw the comment from Slant Magazine blog that Andersson s vision is dark and satirical humor and not yet entirely hopeless, I thought of this dog scene because the dog was hopeless, but everyone was laughing. Throughout the whole scene, I was just trying to see if he actually dragged a real dog. However, I think another element that added to the comical side of this cruelty is the mechanical movement and the rhythm of the whine. Everything was so exact and robotic, yet realistic looking. The scene with the guy playing the guitar and a moving exterior background became more fascinating after I watched the behind the scenes. The moving background was already awkwardly amazing when I watched the film, but the behind the scenes made me appreciate it more because they put in a lot of practice and preciseness. The behind the scene surprised me in many ways, especially when the city perspective was revealed as miniature 2D paintings hanging in different order. That was really unexpected and I ve never seen this technique before. Additionally, when the behind the scenes revealed that Anderson painted his actors pale ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ever since Jenner s discovery, the main principles of vaccines has gained more acceptance through the years of practice. In 1816, 20 years after Edward Jenner s discovery, Sweden would create a compulsory vaccine for smallpox, which will eradicate the disease in many countries (Ortqvist et al). By noticing the long lasting effects of vaccinations in people, one can understand the importance of a well informed society. Vaccines, however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, 100 children out of the one million were diagnosed with a rare side effect in which a section of the small intestine would fold into another section called intussusceptions. Tetanus is a very serious bacterial infection that has become extremely rare in the United States. If one develops the infection, he or she is still recommended to take the vaccination. The reason for it is due to the toxin made by the disease that would affect the immune system in the long run. Hib, HPV, and pneumococcal vaccines all help to improve the immune response better than natural infection (Holland). Certain vaccines are highly recommended but sometimes they are not fully covered, leaving children suffering from possible diseases that are preventable such as: smallpox, chickenpox, measles, hepatitis B, and many more. Moreover, being covered is not the only problem. The shortage of childhood vaccines, especially in the United States, are due to the lack of manufacturing capacity, lack of accurate data, and lack of communication. Between December 2007 and September 2009, the United States had a lack of Hib vaccines, leaving a high number of children at the risk of infection (Esposito et al). In 1989, a measles epidemic infected more than 18,000 people and killed 41 children in the U.S.. The outbreak occurred due to extremely low immunization rates. • 4. Totalitarianism In The Handmaids Tale Dystopian texts explore unfavorable future societies of the authors worst fears, a parallel understanding of an apparent contemporary concept, constructing an unfamiliar perspective that is conceivable and relatable. The realization that the prospect of a dystopian future is built upon the contingent impact from the present, a fabrication of actions and inactions from collective judgments of society. This idea of a contingent impact is reflected to a significant extent in the dystopian text, Handmaids Tale, written by Margaret Atwood in 1985. The novel entails adventures from the perspective of protagonist Offred, a handmaid in a fragmented society run by misogynistic and theocratic totalitarian government. It explores a reality in which a familiar concept of autonomy, sexual prejudice and oppression in the present is metamorphosed into a domineering structural pillar in dystopian world. For these reasons, Atwood challenges the reader with an imaginative creation of the future with a contingent dependence on the present, exemplifying these matters and intensifying the potential future under the reign of a totalitarian society. The conspicuous and problematic concern, which identifies the contingent impacts of the present in the future, is conveyed through diverse notions of autonomy. In modern society, the concept of freedom and independence is advocated, conversely the ideal of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Comparing Genesis Creation And The Norse Culture Although a lot of other cosmogonic myths have presented creations as part of a natural process that has the clear understanding that it is an act of divine and creative will. We all know there are several creation myths across different cultures. It is known that every different culture even has its unique creation myth that also explains how life and world came to be (Leonard McClure, 2004). The two myths I would talk about when it comes to this topic are Genesis creation (Hebrew origin) of the Christian culture, and the Norse culture of Iceland (the Vikings). From the readings of both, both myths also start with an emptiness where conflict and chaos may even eventually develop. • 6. People s History Of The United States By Howard Zinn Essay The book People s History of the United States by the author Howard Zinn represents the history to the readers in a different perspective, making the readers look into the history in a difference lens making it insightful. What is a history? To answer this question, we must first establish a commonality in language: namely, what is history? It is a continuous, systematic narrative of past events as relating to a particular people, country, period, person which is usually written as a chronological account. The author discusses about how the major events were recorded and mainly the stories which were untold to the people and were left out of the mainstream history books. In the first few chapters he gives critical details about how America was founded by Christopher Columbus and gradually moving into detail about how he killed hundreds of native Indians in the process of capturing the country. The author then moves into giving the readers about hidden class struggles and the period of time where racism was affecting a majority of the people. Howard Zinn also mentions about the wars, the Vietnam war and the Civil war that had changed the lives of many in the past and how it has made a major impact in the past and today to the people. Some of the details in the book are real life experiences by the author, because he is not only a writer but had also served in the army in the world war two as a pilot, which makes the readers understand every detail of some events as it is told ... • 9. Analysis Of The Christian College s ( Pcc ) Definition Of... Intro Understanding art is often thought of as being an unreachable goal, but art should not be considered arbitrary because it influences the cultures and societies around us. The purpose of this paper is to define and also establish my opinions on Pensacola Christian College s (PCC) definition of art, the bibliosophy of art, and Dr. Francis Schaeffer s criteria for art. These topics are useful for artists as well as anyone else critiquing art, and can also serve as guidelines and standards for an artist when they create art. PCC s Definition of Art PCC s definition of art is stated as the organized visual expression of ideas or feelings . I believe this definition correctly reflects God s personality as an artist with its emphasis on the word organized. 1 Corinthians 14:40 states Let all things be done decently and in order . This belief is consistently recognized throughout creation. While I agree with specifying the word organized, I disagree that art should be considered completely visual, as this leaves out areas of art such as music, performance, and writing. Overall, I believe that this definition captures art fairly well by explaining that art expresses human emotions and ideas. Bibliosophy of Art The bibliosophy of art defines art is four parts which are the canon, communication, the client, and creativity. The canon refers to the Bible and its authority in our life as an artist, communication defines our message as an artist, the client states who we are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Propaganda In Animal Farm George Orwell, the pseudonym of english author Eric Arthur Blair, was an influential author of novels, novellas, and essays that criticized the rise and practices of authoritarian governments. One of his most revered works, Animal Farm, is hailed as a brilliant piece that satirizes the statues of Stalinism by allegorizing its tumultuous rise and the harsh, often lethal loyalty Stalinism demands of its followers. One of the hallmarks of Stalinist rule is its frequent use of propaganda. In his novella, Animal Farm, Orwell presents the use of propaganda in a Stalinist society through the deification of a leader, the use of scapegoating against an exiled revolutionary and against the vices of man; and exposes the practice of engendering fear into the population of Animal Farm. In Animal Farm, the leader of Animal Farm, Napoleon, frequently uses self deification tactics to elevate his status above the working animals of the farm. Orwell stated that Napoleon was always referred to in formal style as our Leader, Comrade Napoleon, and the pigs liked invent for him such titles as Father of All Animals, Terror of Mankind, Protector of the Sheep fold, Ducklings Friend, and the like (Orwell 93). • 24. The Seven Tips For Effective Business Writing Coherence is one of the seven tips for effective business writing. It allows flow of thoughts to be logical and easy to follow. Analyzing purpose, examining reader s need and outlining before writing are some of the ways to make writing coherent. In addition to these, there are several other techniques that can help to structure effective paragraphs and essays. One way to write coherently is to write with unity. This can be achieved by establishing a main idea and summarizing it into a single sentence called topic sentence. Any sentences or paragraphs that are irrelevant to topic sentence should be omitted. This will make writing unified and coherent. In addition, summary sentences can be used to make writing more coherent. Summary sentences are usually present near the beginning of a document and they highlight the main ideas present in the documents. In such documents, there is a separate, formal summary section emphasizing main ideas that are relevant to readers. Each of these ideas is then placed in a separate paragraph and each of these paragraphs begins with a topic sentence. Summary sentences are also placed in the conclusion. However, it should act as a reminder and should not sound repetitive. The principle discussed above is based on deductive structure where reader s need is placed first. Readers are interested in recommendation and findings rather than the process. Hence, this structure requires to put research findings first and then the process. However, ... For the young reader, these friendships suggest the need for company and intimacy in order to succeed at school and in life, and can even be seen as guidelines showing children how to fit in and strike their own friendships. While this effect on the reader s life can be seen as positive, providing them with positive role models and examples of kindness and sharing, literary friendships often reveal, upon closer analysis, some darker and somewhat unhealthy dynamics. For young readers, stories act as a window to the world, and often an example to follow. The struggles and successes their characters go through become a way to identify, empathize and learn. • 32. Music During The Baroque Era Music during the Baroque era was regarded as a powerful form of communication that could invoke emotions in the listeners. This philosophical belief was derived from a revival of the ideas of the Greco Roman culture, and as a result, composers believed that they could also affect their listeners through the power of melody, harmony, rhythm, and stylistic details. The emphasis on communication was reflected in the major styles and components that were used throughout Baroque compositions. Baroque music is characterized by the composers attention to detail, such as contrast in dynamics, ornamentation, and the emphasis on bass line. These characteristics of the Baroque era are reflected in Antonio Vivaldi s compositions. Known as one of the most popular pieces in Baroque repertoire, Vivaldi s The Four Seasons, a violin concerto, reveals how composers of the Baroque period used different techniques to invoke emotion through the powerful communication of music. The Four Seasons perfectly represents the Baroque period because of Vivaldi s elaborate style, developmental techniques, and theme of emotional impact and contrast. During the Baroque period, composers tried to convey emotions through contrasts in tonality, idiomatic writing, and ornamentation. The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia stated that the baroque period was one of stylistic duality, and it was an era that displayed emotional extremes. Her eyes have to adjust to the darkness of the cave once again. However, this adjustment naturally takes a long time. As a result, the once free person can no longer see the shadows as well as she did before her release into the upper world. Critique Of An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge Critique of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge Summary of Major Ideas In An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, Ambrose Bierce tells the story of Peyton Farquhar, a man who is about to be hanged for aiding the Confederacy during the Civil War. In the moments before his hanging, he reminisces about scheming to set a bridge on fire in order to prohibit the advancement of Union soldiers, which is why he is being hanged. Peyton then begins plotting his escape and the reader is tricked into thinking he escapes his execution and makes it safely to his house, when in reality he is actually hanged. Critical Evaluation First, Bierce effectively portrays imagery through his thorough description of the setting at Owl Creek Bridge. He starts by describing a man standing on a railroad bridge, gazing into the water several feet below with his hands tied and a rope around his neck. This really gives the reader the view and the physical feeling from the man s perspective.
