Similarities Between The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button...
Francis Scott Fitzgerald s short story The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (1922) and David Fincher
s film of the same title (2008) tell the curious story of a man who is born old and ages backwards.
Fitzgerald and Fincher challenge their audiences to consider different themes and ideas throughout
their texts and utilise different techniques to do so. While the stories of the two texts remain similar,
they differ in their effectiveness. David Fincher and Francis Scott Fitzgeralds, The Curious Case of
Benjamin Button present the theme of aging, but do so differently. Fincher explains that life is not
defined by age whereas Fitzgerald present the sombre idea that age defines us in everything we do.
The dogged determination of the characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fincher uses the recurring motif of a man getting struck by lightning to show that life should be lived
in the moment and not lived in fear, because we never know what s coming As opposed to Fitzgerald s
idea of life is dictated by your circumstances. Throughout the story Benjamin is alone and is not
connected emotionally to anyone in his life, he follows a linear path not branching out, whilst Fincher
s character experiences many paths, becoming a sailor on a tug boat where that captain only cares
about his contribution not his age Why is it when you showed up you were no bigger than a pollard
with one foot in the grave... What s your secret? Well captain, you *did* drink a lot. Both authors use
the setting to enhance their separate ideas, Fincher uses the less aristocracy focused period to allow
Benjamin to live out these adventures meeting new people along the way, compared to Fitzgerald
whose setting only allows for the focus of the aristocracy lifestyle to rule the acceptance of Benjamin
in Baltimore. He would have to introduce this this septuagenarian for a dark instant Mr. Button wished
passionately that his son was black (pg.4). Fincher and Fitzgerald both insist that life is there to be
lived but present different views on how you can live

The Book The Namesake By Jhumpa Lahiri
The Struggle of Find a Cultural Identity
Many people of different ethnicity have passed over many obstacles and difficult experiences where
growing up in a new country has been like a great wall where you cannot exceed to the other side by
much effort can put. Growing up in the United States may differ between types of culture and
education given by parents. Over the years many people like me with double identity can struggle to
be two person at the time where you communicate and experience new cultures in other family or
persons. At home, you are the other person where you communicate with your first native language;
you interact with family regularly with manners, traditions and culture. It s really difficult to have two
identities and do not know who you really are, in the book The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri author,

Additionally, immigrants have been always tried to live with their same beliefs, traditions, manners,
and food. This may be due to the fact that most immigrants think that they could be betraying the roots
of ethnicity. According to Bagchi, Amitabha and Chatterji, Dejajyoti researches Bengalis immigration

Benjamin Bush Informative Speech
On the fateful September day nine years ago, Bush s first inkling of the unfolding tragedy came as he
walked into a classroom in Florida to read to a group of young children. On the short walk from the
motorcade to the classroom, Karl Rove mentioned that an airplane had crashed into the World Trade
Centre. That sounded strange. I envisioned a little propeller plane horribly lost, writes Bush. But then
his national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, called to tell him that what he thinks is a small plane
is actually a commercial airliner. I was stunned. That plane must have had the worst pilot in the world.
How could he possibly have flown into a skyscraper on a clear day? Maybe he had a heart attack,
writes Bush. The president may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The president looks as though he has been paralysed by shock. For seven minutes he sits there before
a group of children, immobile while America was under attack. But Bush says he was thinking. I
looked at the faces of the children in front of me. I thought about the contrast between the brutality of
the attacks and the innocence of those children. Millions like them would soon be counting on me to
protect them. I was determined not to let them down, Bush writes. The reading lesson continued, but
my mind raced far from the classroom. Who could have done this? How bad was the damage? What
did the government need to do? Bush finally leaves the class and is ushered into another room to
watch TV coverage of the attacks. The president s first impulse is to get on television himself. I
watched in horror as the footage of the second plane hitting the south tower replayed in slow motion.
The huge fireball and explosion of smoke were worse than I had imagined. The country would be
shaken, and I needed to get on TV right away, he says. He drafted a few words longhand and duly

Electroconvulsive Therapy Argumentative Essay
Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), formerly known as electroshock therapy, is a treatment for mental
illnesses that runs small electric currents through the brain, with the intention of bringing on a brief
seizure. The goal is to change brain chemistry to reverse symptoms of certain mental illnesses. During
the 1940s 50s, ECT was the most effective way of treating certain mental illnesses and was used
frequently throughout many countries (Kendell, 1982). One of the main illnesses ECT is used for is
depression, but it is also used for other mental illnesses, such as mania and some cases of
schizophrenia. Patients undergo ECT about three times a week, totaling six to twelve sessions. This is
an important topic to research because ECT is known to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although ECT is shown to be effective, it does not always mean that is a safe form of treatment. If
ECT causes patients to have severe brain damage and cognitive deficits, it would be considered
unethical to use, regardless if it an effective form of treatment for certain mental illnesses (Reisner,
2003). There are limitations to ECT that doctors need to be aware of, such as patients having existing
medical conditions that could counteract with ECT treatment and cause damage to the patient.
Informed consent is an important process in undergoing ECT, it should let the patient know all of the
risks and all of the benefits of ECT. Many have suggested that although the risk of brain damage is
reported to be low, it is still an important deciding factor for a patient who is eligible for undergoing
ECT. Informed consent should include risks, benefits, acknowledge post treatment risks and
confusion, the possibility or uncertain effects of the treatment, as well as alternative options (Reisner,
2003). Because a risk of a treatment is not always certain, it should still be required to inform a patient
of the possible effects of the treatment they are undergoing, due to the minimal possibility that brain
damage or death could still

Presidential Debate Analysis
Debate or Debacle? by Fatima Navarro, Freshmen staff writer
The debate this august 6, 2015 was held in Cleveland Ohio, the first debate for the presidential
campaign. Many of the comments made were ridiculously childish. The following topics were
discussed at the debate taxes, immigration, education, Obama s decisions, war, Isis, woman rights, and
gay marriage. Not many answers were proposed rather there were lots of snarky comments. Donald
Trump has such a massive ego while he picked on his opponents; then later claimed that he will get

Huckabee has once tried to run as president but failed so this is his second time running. In the debate
he was asked about his view on gay marriage and of course being an ordained minister brought up god

that we recently attended a gay marriage of a friend of his. Scott Walker went to Marquette University
but did not graduate. Even though he was seen by many as a potential candidate and then chosen to
run for president, I think homosexuals would despise him for he is trying to ban gay marriage. Jeb

role of private industry in addressing the problem. Bush believes that the plan No Child Left

Navajo Art Forms
Prior to researching about the Navajo Native American art forms, I was unaware of all the various
forms of art seen in their culture. Most people think of the paintings and drawings when they think of
art, but there are other forms of art and ways to be expressive without painting and drawing. Upon
researching this fascinating culture, I learned so much more about their lives and the forms of art that
they create. Throughout this paper I will be talking about the different art forms the Navajo culture
possesses. The Navajo art forms consist of jewelry, blankets, rugs, pottery and baskets. For every

The Christ, The Son Of The Living God
Introduction
Jesus asked His disciples, Who do you say I am? Peter answered for them,
You are the Christ. (Mark 8:27 29) This word, Christ, is the Greek word christos and
translates the Hebrew messiah. The term messiah or Christ was used prophetically as the
title for the person or figure that God would appoint to usher in His kingdom. The
people s understanding of messiah has a military or political implication. Matthew s
gospel adds to Peter s statement You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God. (Matt.
16:16). There is a rich tradition in these words; going back to the kings of Israel, who
were called sons of God and suggests a special relationship to God, but Jesus was much
more than that. He is God s chosen One and indeed appointed to bring God s kingdom.
He is the divine Son. The long awaited One of the Old Testament prophesies. The next
verse in Mark gives another important title to Jesus. He teaches that the Son of Man
must suffer, die, and rise again. Who is the Son of Man? This title comes from Daniel
7:13 14. Daniel s vision depicts the Ancient of Days (God) taking a seat on His throne
then one like a son of man approaches God and is given authority, glory, and power.
All of the nations will worship Him. The Jews of Jesus s time see this figure from Daniel
as a prophetic vision of their Messiah. Jesus claimed to be this Son of Man . Despite
this truth, many had a vision of the Messiah as a military power that

Fairytales Double Standards
Throughout time, double standards have always been present in every type of situation and every type
of literature; they are even present in children s fairytales. Though fairytales were intended for adults,
they were soon transformed to entertain children; and double standards of men and women are still
present in today s variations of the tales despite the changes made to them. There are many types of
double standards presented in a variety of ways. One of those standards is who can and who cannot

such tales as Cinderella , Diamonds and Toads , Jack the Giant Killer , and Tom Thumb . The double

older time periods, especially that of the medieval time period, royalty only married royalty and on
very rare occasions they would marry nobles. The requirement was money and title. A prince would
only marry a princess or queen and a princess would only marry a prince or king. It was not socially
acceptable for royalty to marry those that were not royalty. In the instances of Cinderella and

Lack of Morality in War Depicted in Tim O Brien s The...
Tim O Brien s book The Things They Carried epitomizes the degradation of morals that war produces.
This interpretation is personified in the characters who gradually blur the line dividing right and
wrong as the motives for war itself become unclear. The morality of soldiers and the purpose of war
are tied also to the truth the soldiers must tell themselves in order to participate in the gruesome and
random killing which is falsely justified by the U.S government. The lack of purpose in the Vietnam
War permanently altered the soldier s perspective of how to react to situations and in most cases they
turned to violence to express their frustration. The men s mission was plainly described by O Brien,
stating If you weren t humping, you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though the men reacted in violent ways in different situations, O Brian s violent act was something
that stayed with him for the rest of his life and completely changed who he was as a person. The Man
I Killed describes in detail the man and his life Tim O Brien killed on a path in the jungle, even though
he obviously did not know the man s personal background, but mimicked it after his own. This
description shows O Brien s life came to an end at his first act of violence, mirrored in the loss of the
man s life. After O Brien s incident on the pathway, he became cold and exemplified this new
disposition after Jorgenson almost allowed O Brien to die from a bullet wound, and in turn O Brien
needed pay back by scaring him in the middle of the night. The war may have physically killed many,
but in this sense it damaged every soldier mentally.
When truth became distorted by the ambiguous or absent motive for war, the soldiers needed to make
up their own truths in order to keep sane enough to live through the senselessness and fear. Along with
the fact that O Brien s boyhood died after killing the man in the path, his conception of truth died as
well. He examines this fact when his daughter Kathleen asks him, Daddy tell the truth, did you ever
kill anybody? and O Brien ponders this stating, And I can say, honestly, Of course not. Or I can

Blackberries in June In Ron Rash s Blackberries in June, it was easy to be immediately drawn into the
story. People can relate to the life of Matt and Jamie. Their life of being married after high school and
having a house of their own is a plan many people work to strive towards when in love after high
school. Their life seems almost perfect or typical throughout the story. A wonderful and happy
marriage with the wholesome relations with the other family members, and some tenseness between

After the accident, Jamie s mother tells her, You know you got to help them, referring to Charlton s

they waste it on booze, unnecessary make up, and an abundance of vehicles that are not needed. Jamie
feels there is no reason to give up what she and Matt have when there is plenty of other ways for
Charlton to receive help. Jamie s mother believes, That lake house, you had no right to expect such a
place so young... It was a miracle you got it in the first place. You cannot expect miracles in this life,
girl. Jamie will not sell her miracle and says Maybe not, Momma, But when they come a person has
got the right to take them (Rash 247).
Matt strongly does not put up with Jamie s family s thoughts of selling the lake house. He becomes
irritated with Linda and tells her Me and Jamie do not owe you anything. Linda s reply of you owe us
everything, if Charlton had not taken you on you would never have been able to make a down

is astounding that Matt and Jamie are looked down upon because their life together is

Peloponnesian War Strategy
Evolution of Strategy Throughout the Peloponnesian War
In the years leading up to the Peloponnesian War, Athens and Sparta formed a successful alliance
defending Hellas from a Persian invasion. This alliance dissolved soon after leaving two independent
city states in its place. Athens possessed a robust naval force and Sparta possessed a formidable
military force. Each possessed unique systems of government and policies that defined markedly
different approaches for relationships with their respective allies. These policies shaped the strategies
that each city state developed and implemented during the 27 year Peloponnesian War. This paper

Total Quality Management (TQM) is a management approach that originated in the 1950s and has

within his novel The plague. In this novel Camus speaks about a small city called Oran. In this city the
seasons rarely change and everyone settles for what they have and demonstrate almost a complete
feeling of contentedness in their everyday lives. In the novel he also shows that the saying you don t

similar role is necessary when interacting with diverse work populations. It is also salient for these
employees during times when personal, emotional, topics are being addressed. It has been my
experience that having successful communication skills is a quality that is developed amongst leaders
and not necessarily an inherent trait. My goal is to help a team of Human Resources low to mid level
leaders to develop their social communication skills so that they may build deeper rapport with their
subordinates.
To successfully have the outcomes mentioned above this workshop will consist of the following
objectives:

Essay on Matrix Year 11 Draft for Reference(Not Plagiarism)
Mat MPS 1 Part A: Determining fair rank between teams(no ties) Let win=3, draw=1 and lose=0. The
reason for this weighting method is because it is natural for the loser not to get a point. Also, there
must be a visible gap between winners and draw players. This can be proved by contradiction proof.
Blue | B | Crimson | C | Green | G | Orange | O | Red | R | Yellow | Y | Assume that win=2 draw=1 and
lose=0. If the supremacy matrix is calculated, tie always occurs, which proves that if there is a small
gap between win and draws, that supremacy matrix isn t valid. This is the teams and their initial
letters, arranged by alphabetical order. Then, the diagraph below is converted into the following
matrix. M= ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is fair to provide lesser coefficient to M3, due to its relation with the original data. This
means, the coefficient of M3 must be lesser than the first or second order Matrix. Therefore, the
coefficient of M3 is 0.4, which is smaller than any of M or M2. S= M+0.5M2+0.4M3 = = The rank
order is found as same as if the coefficient of M3 was different. The rank order is Oranges, Reds,
Blues, Yellows, Crimsons and Greens. This rank has escalated the rank of Red Team into 2nd from
3rd, without any ties. This suggests the validity of the Supremacy Matris, S= M+0.5M2+0.4M3.
Justification for the calculation The reason why I used S= M+0.5M2+0.4M3 is because of the
reliability of the real data. In the dominance matrix M, not every cases are examined. However, even
though escalating the coefficient can be considered as a solution, I chose to use M3 because if the rank
order was same all the time in Supremacy Matrix including second order matrix, I would have chose
to increase the coefficient of M2. However, not every cases had same order. In fact, they had
insufficient reliability to use as the Supremacy Matrix. As the alternative solution, M3 is used and it
proved the efficiency of using M3 in the Supremacy Matrix. Also, as it can be seen in the second order
Supremacy Matrix, second order Matrix has lesser coefficient. To keep this trend, M3 had lesser
coefficient than M2, resulting the Supremacy Matrix of S=

The Speech Of Steve Jobs
Speeches come in all shapes and sizes, some fantastic, some horrible, some motivational and some
inspirational. The one detail I can tell you there is always a few that will linger and stick around in
your head. These speeches go through history as being remembered and studied for decades. A few
that come to mind happen to be I have a dream by Martin Luther King, Never give up...Don t ever
give up, by Jimmy Valvano and You ve got to find what you love, by Steve Jobs. Each and every one
of these speeches was written by men who were challenged to make difficult decisions in their lives
which would inadvertently affect their future in one way or another.
The most current speech of the four is Steve Jobs You ve got to find what you love. His speech targets
college graduates of the 21st century. After I read Steve Jobs speech, I understood the power of his
words. At the beginning, he stated that he, unlike the graduates, never graduated from college; he
dropped out after 6 months. Additionally, he reveals information about himself throughout the speech,
such as being adopted, and the fascination for calligraphy. At the age of 20, Steve and a friend created
Apple, a computer company in his parent s garage, later to be fired from his own company. But of
course that did not stop Jobs; he ended up creating two more companies called NeXT and Pixar.
Presumably, the scariest time in his life started when he was diagnosed with an incurable pancreatic

Duddy Kravitz Analysis
Throughout the novel, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, Duddy makes decisions that overall
define who he is as a person. These actions show that at times he is moral and his actions can be
considered to be good. Though what he does can be good, it can also be considered to be quite
immoral or bad.
First off some of Duddy s actions were very immoral and only did bad for others. Duddy shows
himself at times as an unsympathetic person that will do his best to take advantage of others while
avoiding any moral responsibility. Duddy is on a quest for land and will not let anything get in his
way. As a result of this he decides to give his friend Virgil a job as a truck driver for his company.

Duddy can be considered an underdog that is trying to achieve something that may just be handed to
others that are on a different playing field then him. In the novel he is just trying to even out the
playing field for himself. Though this does not account for everything Duddy has done, it does give
reasoning and justifiability to some of his actions. Duddy shows his concept of fairness when talking
to Calder, as Calder explains why he thinks Duddy s brother should be expelled. Duddy says to
Calder, Maybe he did. But he s a poor boy and he never met up with ladies and gentlemen before.
Present company expected (198). He comes from a Jewish family and at the time Jewish people would
not get the same treatment as others got. For example the land Duddy ends up getting at the end of the
novel had to be purchased by Yvette. This was because of the fact Duddy is Jewish and relates back to
him being the underdog in the situation. Duddy thinks about what it would have been like if he was
born into a rich family. I m a failure. All I needed was to be born rich. All I needed was money in the
crip and I would have grown up such a fine, lovable guy (310). Duddy feels that his actions are
justified by the fact that he is on the lower end of the playing

Contemporary Issues In Siemens
Introduction
This essay would like to examine three contemporary issues, corporate corruption, sustainable global
supply chains and cultural challenges during post acquisition integration in Mergers Acquisitions.
Also, it will describe how the three issues influence Siemens respectively and responsive actions from
Siemens. Siemens, is a multinational corporation in Germany, is a global technology powerhouse
which plays a pioneering role in the field of motor and electronics, and is active in energy, health care,
industry and infrastructure and urban business. Meanwhile, it will give the views of public or
stakeholders about Siemens specific actions for issues. Finally, some recommendations will be given
about how Siemens should do for handling the three issues respectively in the future. So this essay
aims to utilize three real and typical events from Siemens to explain deeply and critically three
contemporary issues.
1. Corporate corruption
Definitions in the literature
Corruption is recognized as a contemporary problem in the international community currently.
Corruption can take kinds of types that can include graft, bribery, embezzlement and extortion. For its
influence, the United Nations international crime prevention center claimed that corruption has the
threaten ability and negative impact on social, political and economic development and the value of
morality, social stability and security of the world(Das, 2016). Corporate corruption is defined as any

The Global Sportswear Sector Operates In The Global Apparel
The global sportswear sector operates in the global apparel and footwear industry that recorded
worldwide sales worth $1.67 trillion in 2016 (Businesswire, 2017). Out of this, the sales of sportswear
items accounted for 7% with most of the sales coming from the U.S. and emerging markets in
Thailand and India (Businesswire, 2017). Besides, the industry employs more than 75 million people
globally working in apparel, footwear and sportswear sectors (ILO, 2015). The growth the global
sportswear sales can be attributed to the growth in popularity in healthy lifestyles as more people in
the developed and emerging economies engage in physical activities hence increasing the demand for
sportswear. Sportswear refers to the apparel that people use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the report, suppliers of leading brands like Puma, Nike, Adidas and Reebok have forced their
employees to work overtime and denied them the rights to form trade unions. In addition, some of the
workers work without being paid while others are underpaid after working for long hours (Clean
Clothes Campaign, 2004).
Similar findings were also reported by the Play Fair (2008) report. The report findings showed that
workers manufacturing sportswear items in form of apparel, footwear and soccer balls faced similar
problems. These include: abuse of employment contracts, violation to the freedom of association and
collective bargaining, and employment insecurity. Consequently, workers who attempt to form trade
unions are dismissed, denied the chance to negotiate and the facilities with unionized workers get
closed. In addition, the rise in factory closures has led to job insecurity among workers and this
reduces the likelihood of workers to seek better employment conditions. The Play Fair report also
argued that buyers tend to disregard facilities that are compliant with labor practices and such facilities
end up being shut down (2008). The report also highlighted the rise in short term employment
contracts and precarious employment that undermine labor regulations and the rights of workers to
social security and freedom of association (Play Fair, 2008).

Underage Driving Irresponsible
Underage Driving Go ahead you can drive when you don t have the authority too, you ll end up in jail,
hospital, or in a grave. Many teens are getting killed because of underage driving. I do not support
underage driving because you risking your life and other, breaking the law, and irresponsibility. Thirty
three percent of deaths among thirteen to sixteen years old in 2010 occurred in motor vehicles crashes,
on top of that, underage driving les to 32,700 death in the United States only, can you imagine how
would it be around the world? Apparently, teens driving is a huge mistake and irresponsible. Teens
didn t even attend driving lessons or even a driving school which means they don t know the rules of

Texas Big Brothers Big Sisters
Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters has many strengths within this large, long standing organization. For
example, due to the longevity of the organization, the many processes that have been put in place for
the safety and satisfaction of the child at Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters provide extremely good
customer service and a customer centric value that is a necessity in the world of non profits. Another
benefit is that Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters is the second largest subsidiary of the national Big
Brothers Big Sisters organization and with that comes a strong reputation for serving a large number
of families. Between the size of the organization and how long it has been functioning, it has a strong
hold in the non profit community as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though this organization is large and has withstood generations of volunteers, lack of funding
would crumble it almost immediately. Luckily, Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters is in a great position
right now as there are many opportunities that they can undertake. For example, they have a waiting
list of over 4,000 children who are wanting to be matched with a Big. If the right mentors can be
located throughout the state while continuing to find the resources needed, then the organization has
the ability to serve over 10,000 children in Kansas. As over 70 percent of children on the waiting list
to receive a Big are male, Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters has the opportunity to target males in the
community specifically. Fortunately, many of the counties that are being served in Kansas are in
college towns and so many of the students attending college are looking for philanthropic
opportunities and will be willing to engage with the organization. There is a huge need for this
organization looking ahead. Even though there is large market in Kansas still awaiting to be served or
ready to get involved, due to Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters being a non profit and lacking the
funding needed to be self sustaining, aspects such as technology tend to suffer in the organization.
Continual developments in technology have already began to pose a threat to the organization and
resources have had to be redistributed to becoming more technologically savvy in order to

There s A Certain Slant Of Light
Emily Dickinson s poem There s a certain Slant of Light is a powerful reflection on the pain of
depression and other internal struggles. As a recluse, Dickinson most likely was familiar with these
feelings and conveys them in a way we can all relate to. Although cryptic at first, this poem
communicates many universal emotions as well as an insight into Dickinson s state of mind.
Stanza one opens with Dickinson referring to a certain Slant of light, Winter Afternoon . This light is
described in the rest of the work, although it is not the main idea. Dickinson capitalizes Slant and
Winter Afternoon to the characterize the setting. The Slant of the light refers to the time of day,
morning or evening, and Winter Afternoons describes the season

Museums Issues With Open-Air Photographs
Even though there was still to a certain extent a paternalistic tenor in the diction of the event
organizers, the change in the roles, functions and perspectives of the participants marked forms of
appropriation that clearly went beyond the participatory initiatives, which had been expressed since
the end of the 1970s in the debate about the task and function of museums.10 In Tejgadh participation
meant to be observer and observed at the same time, with alternating perspectives and interests. For
the period of the presentation, the photographs caused in a way that is not unlike the qualitative
sociological interview process of the photo elicitation all of the viewers, regardless of their social,
professional or disciplinary background, to act and speak both about the customs and conventions of
earlier generations of the indigenous population of India, their current meaning and the specific
characteristics of everyday life today, as well as about the ways in which photography is used in the
context of scientific research and local social politics. They exposed the preconceptions and
expectations with which the local organizers as well as the European scientists had contextualized the
event in advance. Without appearing with respective stable profiles and clearly differentiated from one
another the different audiences performed themselves and in relationship to one another. A fluid,

Reflective Essay On Service
To do service is to help others and to do justice is to serve. With limited service experience and
minimal justice work, I have a different understanding of what justice is and how I can do it as a
professional. The service work that I have done while at Creighton happened during my freshman
year. My idea of justice comes from how I was raised, some personal experience, and one of the
readings that was discussed in class.
My experience with service while at Creighton started and ended my freshman year with the
Freshman Leadership Program. Because this service experience was three years ago I do not
remember all of the details and conversations that I had while doing this service, following is what I
remember of my service experiences. One of the service sites that I went to through this program was
the South Omaha Boys and Girls Club. At the club the members of the program were asked to play
with the kids, helped the children make crafts, and teach kids from 12 to 14 years of age about
bullying.
When I think about how I was feeling about this service I did not really understand how I was helping
out the organization or how this was really considered service. I was just walking around talking to
kids who could care less if I was there or not. When I think of who really benefitted from me going to
this service site once a week, my list starts with institutions, Creighton University, the Freshman
Leadership Program, the Boys and Girls Club. Then on a lesser scale

Francis Scott Fitzgerald s short story The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (1922) and David Fincher s film of the same title (2008) tell the curious story of a man who is born old and ages backwards. Fitzgerald and Fincher challenge their audiences to consider different themes and ideas throughout their texts and utilise different techniques to do so. While the stories of the two texts remain similar, they differ in their effectiveness. During the 1940s 50s, ECT was the most effective way of treating certain mental illnesses and was used frequently throughout many countries (Kendell, 1982). If ECT causes patients to have severe brain damage and cognitive deficits, it would be considered unethical to use, regardless if it an effective form of treatment for certain mental illnesses (Reisner, 2003). There are limitations to ECT that doctors need to be aware of, such as patients having existing medical conditions that could counteract with ECT treatment and cause damage to the patient. The morality of soldiers and the purpose of war are tied also to the truth the soldiers must tell themselves in order to participate in the gruesome and random killing which is falsely justified by the U.S government. This description shows O Brien s life came to an end at his first act of violence, mirrored in the loss of the man s life. After O Brien s incident on the pathway, he became cold and exemplified this new disposition after Jorgenson almost allowed O Brien to die from a bullet wound, and in turn O Brien needed pay back by scaring him in the middle of the night. When truth became distorted by the ambiguous or absent motive for war, the soldiers needed to make up their own truths in order to keep sane enough to live through the senselessness and fear. • 23. Essay on Matrix Year 11 Draft for Reference(Not Plagiarism) Mat MPS 1 Part A: Determining fair rank between teams(no ties) Let win=3, draw=1 and lose=0. The reason for this weighting method is because it is natural for the loser not to get a point. Also, there must be a visible gap between winners and draw players. This can be proved by contradiction proof. Blue | B | Crimson | C | Green | G | Orange | O | Red | R | Yellow | Y | Assume that win=2 draw=1 and lose=0. If the supremacy matrix is calculated, tie always occurs, which proves that if there is a small gap between win and draws, that supremacy matrix isn t valid. This is the teams and their initial letters, arranged by alphabetical order. Then, the diagraph below is converted into the following matrix. M= ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it is fair to provide lesser coefficient to M3, due to its relation with the original data. This means, the coefficient of M3 must be lesser than the first or second order Matrix. Therefore, the coefficient of M3 is 0.4, which is smaller than any of M or M2. S= M+0.5M2+0.4M3 = = The rank order is found as same as if the coefficient of M3 was different. The rank order is Oranges, Reds, Blues, Yellows, Crimsons and Greens. This rank has escalated the rank of Red Team into 2nd from 3rd, without any ties. This suggests the validity of the Supremacy Matris, S= M+0.5M2+0.4M3. Justification for the calculation The reason why I used S= M+0.5M2+0.4M3 is because of the reliability of the real data. In the dominance matrix M, not every cases are examined. However, even though escalating the coefficient can be considered as a solution, I chose to use M3 because if the rank order was same all the time in Supremacy Matrix including second order matrix, I would have chose to increase the coefficient of M2. However, not every cases had same order. In fact, they had insufficient reliability to use as the Supremacy Matrix. As the alternative solution, M3 is used and it proved the efficiency of using M3 in the Supremacy Matrix. Also, as it can be seen in the second order Supremacy Matrix, second order Matrix has lesser coefficient. To keep this trend, M3 had lesser coefficient than M2, resulting the Supremacy Matrix of S= ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A few that come to mind happen to be I have a dream by Martin Luther King, Never give up...Don t ever give up, by Jimmy Valvano and You ve got to find what you love, by Steve Jobs. Each and every one of these speeches was written by men who were challenged to make difficult decisions in their lives which would inadvertently affect their future in one way or another. The most current speech of the four is Steve Jobs You ve got to find what you love. His speech targets college graduates of the 21st century. After I read Steve Jobs speech, I understood the power of his words. At the beginning, he stated that he, unlike the graduates, never graduated from college; he dropped out after 6 months. Additionally, he reveals information about himself throughout the speech, such as being adopted, and the fascination for calligraphy. At the age of 20, Steve and a friend created Apple, a computer company in his parent s garage, later to be fired from his own company. But of course that did not stop Jobs; he ended up creating two more companies called NeXT and Pixar. Duddy shows his concept of fairness when talking to Calder, as Calder explains why he thinks Duddy s brother should be expelled. Duddy says to Calder, Maybe he did. But he s a poor boy and he never met up with ladies and gentlemen before. Present company expected (198). For example the land Duddy ends up getting at the end of the novel had to be purchased by Yvette. This was because of the fact Duddy is Jewish and relates back to him being the underdog in the situation. Duddy thinks about what it would have been like if he was born into a rich family. I m a failure. All I needed was to be born rich. All I needed was money in the crip and I would have grown up such a fine, lovable guy (310). In addition, some of the workers work without being paid while others are underpaid after working for long hours (Clean Clothes Campaign, 2004). Similar findings were also reported by the Play Fair (2008) report. The report findings showed that workers manufacturing sportswear items in form of apparel, footwear and soccer balls faced similar problems. These include: abuse of employment contracts, violation to the freedom of association and collective bargaining, and employment insecurity. Consequently, workers who attempt to form trade unions are dismissed, denied the chance to negotiate and the facilities with unionized workers get closed. In addition, the rise in factory closures has led to job insecurity among workers and this reduces the likelihood of workers to seek better employment conditions. The Play Fair report also argued that buyers tend to disregard facilities that are compliant with labor practices and such facilities end up being shut down (2008). The report also highlighted the rise in short term employment contracts and precarious employment that undermine labor regulations and the rights of workers to social security and freedom of association (Play Fair, 2008). • 33. Reflective Essay On Service To do service is to help others and to do justice is to serve. With limited service experience and minimal justice work, I have a different understanding of what justice is and how I can do it as a professional. The service work that I have done while at Creighton happened during my freshman year. My idea of justice comes from how I was raised, some personal experience, and one of the readings that was discussed in class. My experience with service while at Creighton started and ended my freshman year with the Freshman Leadership Program. Because this service experience was three years ago I do not remember all of the details and conversations that I had while doing this service, following is what I remember of my service experiences. One of the service sites that I went to through this program was the South Omaha Boys and Girls Club. At the club the members of the program were asked to play with the kids, helped the children make crafts, and teach kids from 12 to 14 years of age about bullying. When I think about how I was feeling about this service I did not really understand how I was helping out the organization or how this was really considered service. I was just walking around talking to kids who could care less if I was there or not. When I think of who really benefitted from me going to this service site once a week, my list starts with institutions, Creighton University, the Freshman Leadership Program, the Boys and Girls Club. Then on a lesser scale ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
