Philosophical Schools Of Thought And Methods Of Reasoning...
Philosophy Summative Assignment Discuss the main philosophical schools of thought and methods of
reasoning relevant to the practice of chiropractic
Introduction
This assignment will discuss the main philosophical schools of thought and methods of reasoning
relevant to the practice of chiropractic. It is relevant to first understanding the meaning of chiropractic,
philosophy and its branches. The main schools of thought; vitalism, holism and naturalism to name a
few, will be discussed and related to the practice of chiropractic.
Chiropractic (Greek kheir, hand, and praktikos, practitioner) is defined as the science of treating
human ailments by adjustment of the spine Bradbury, P. (1957). It is grounded in the principle that the

The questions above can be answered by relating to the schools of thought, from connecting these
thoughts to the questions imposed, philosophy of chiropractic will evolve.
A Brief History
Throughout its short life time, Chiropractic has been divided by its internal factors; chiropractors
themselves. Chiropractic has been split for the last 100 years into at least two metaphysical camps
because of the inability to have honest, intellectual and critical debate over philosophical issues
(Coulter, 2000); innatists and rationalists. Innatists held their belief in vitalism. Opposing this are the
rationalists, who choose to reject the innate and universal intelligence. It is possible that this conflict
arose due to D.D. Palmer s confusion about philosophy and how it imposes chiropractic (Coulter, I.D.
1999). It is likely early happenings resulted in chiropractic defending its profession with chiropractic
philosophy rather than clarifying the nature of the profession by teaching philosophy of chiropractic .
This conflict had immediate impact on practice. Two types of chiropractors; straights, claiming true
chiropractic philosophy , practicing on the spine only, and mixers; who embraced a wider range of
practice, treating the whole body (Coulter, I.D. 1999). The concept of innate intelligence found itself
wedged between the split, embraced by the innatists, and persistent of dogma for the rationalists.

Why Is Food Coma A Myth Or Reality
Food Coma: Myth or reality????
Almost everyone is acquainted with the experience of finishing a big meal and the accompanying state
of drowsiness or lassitude. How many times we have taken resolutions to not over indulge in our
favorite food in the family occasions, celebratory meals or just regular heavy meals. Those are the
times when a couch seems more appealing and dozing off is the best possible idea. Sounds like a
familiar experience?
This phenomenon is called as food coma. No, one does not literally goes into a coma but it will
certainly seem like an individual is about to enter into one.
Is Food coma real?
Food coma, or in medical terms Postprandial somnolence is a real scientific phenomenon. There are
physiological explanations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Myths
Drop in blood flow from brain and oxygen delivery
Mostly people believe there is a drop in oxygen and blood flow after a meal which leads to after meal
drowsiness and sleepiness. But this is wrong because even though there is an increase in blood flow
due to passage of food in the gastrointestinal tracts, it is generally from the skeletal muscle tissue and
also by increasing the rate of blood pumped per minute by the heart.
Tryptophan present in the Turkey
Popular myth among everyone is that turkey is very rich in tryptophan which when consumed during a
Thanksgiving Day result in more than usual sleepiness and food coma. This is because tryptophan
produces serotonin which is associated with relaxation and sleepiness. However, the amount of
tryptophan present in turkey is similar to chicken, beef, and other meats. The quantity required to raise
brain serotonin level cannot be achieved by eating servings of turkey.
After effects of food coma

Heart of Darkness, by Joseph Conrad and The Rime of the...
Marlow and the Mariner in Heart of Darkness and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner are both morally
ambiguous characters with many similarities. Each embarks on a great journey in which their
character is tested numerous times. Their trials lead to many profound revelations about humanity,
which are explored in ways only possible because of their hazy morality. At the start of their
adventures, both Marlow and the Mariner were only sailors looking for adventure and fortune. The
motivations for their actions were simple; Marlow was lost in all the glories of exploration (pg. 13),
and the Mariner was only seeking to avoid a storm. But each would be changed in profound ways by
their journeys, in great part due to their ambiguous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His decision to continue no matter what caused him to wait quite a while for the rivets necessary to
begin his journey down the river and the helmsman to die in the barrage of the natives before ever
reaching Kurtz. But it was the same traits that allowed him to analyze the true nature of the lawless
environment and of the people in it, as in his suspicion of the natives not being inhuman (pg. 37). The
adventures of Marlow and the Mariner ended with profound revelations. After he unconsciously
blessed the snakes, he was returned to his homeland by a higher power. But he had penance more (l.
410) to do for his actions. Upon returning, he found himself compelled to tell his story to those that
needed to hear it, and to seek out new recipients of his story through long travels, teaching them all to
respect all the creatures of the Earth. Upon finding Kurtz, Marlow was able to see the true significance
of Kurtz s transformation, being free from the hypocrisy of his crewmates. Kurtz, too, is tinged with
moral ambiguity; he began as an upstanding, educated citizen, but even he couldn t resist the
corruption of an environment without any restrictions on his actions. His lust for power and ivory
consumed him, transforming him into a brutal, greedy man without respect for any kind of code. He
thought of himself as a god. But

Abstract This paper presents unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) which is an integration of
shunt and series Active Power Filters and aims to compensate for voltage sag, voltage and current
unbalance and other power quality problems [1],[5],[6]. The UPQC helps to improve power quality at
the point of installation on power distribution system or industrial power system. This paper deals
with design of UPQC by considering a controller based on PQ theory. Reference signal generation for
shunt active filter is done by using PQ theory while for series dual PQ theory is used [2], [3].
Reference signals are then applied to pulse generators. Pulse generation is carried out by using
hysteresis band controller for each filter. The validation of proposed scheme is carried out by using
Matlab/Simulink.
Index Terms Unified Power Quality Conditioner, Active Power Filter, hysteresis control, voltage and

Little Bee By Jacques Lacan And Chris Cleave s Little Bee
Language can be seen throughout all cultures and intertwined in every part of people s daily lives. It
can be argued as the building blocks of society, as there are virtually no means of communication
without some form of language. For the nigerian refugee Little Bee, language has to do with life or
death, trying to survive in her new world when she has been detained in England. She struggles with
learning the Queen s English , all the while trying to stay safe without the protection of her friends
from home and the language that she is accustomed to. Two men: post structuralist psychoanalyst,
Jacques Lacan and nineteenth century linguist and semiologist, Ferdinand de Saussure, both have
famous theories about language that can be related to the book Little Bee, by Chris Cleave. The ability
for Little Bee to learn a new variation of her own language can be outlined in the works of both
Jacques Lacan and Ferdinand de Saussure.
Both men devoted their lives to the study of language and how it related people to the world around
them. Jacques Lacan s theory, described by author Fredric Jameson as The Prison House of Language
, means that once we have learned a language, we can not see outside of it; there is no other way to
communicate or represent the world. Saussure goes more in depth into language and has more points
about the role that language plays. His main model, structuralism, can be defined as the methodology
that parts of culture are understood by their

they used their wealth to better themselves. In contrast, The Captains of Industry was a term used to

Summary Of Alistair Macleod s The Boat
The Dilemma Between Tradition and Opportunity Through the angle in the screen door I saw my
father who had been walking into his room wheel around on one of his rubber booted heels and look at
her with his blue eyes flashing like clearest ice beneath the snow that was his hair. His usually ruddy
face was drawn and grey, reflecting the exhaustion of a man of sixty five who had been working in
those rubber boots for eleven hours on an August day, and for a fleeting moment I wondered what I
would do if he killed my mother while I stood there in the porch with those three foolish mackerel in
my hand. Then he turned and went into his room and the radio blared forth the next day s weather
forecast and I retreated under the noise and returned again, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When Macleod talks about the father s blue eyes flashing like clearest ice beneath the snow that was
his hair (228) the reader has a picture painted in their mind. This sentence uses imagery to put
emphasis behind the glare of the father s eyes. The word ice also has a second effect as it can refer to
the cold heartedness and fuming temper of the father in the passage. Imagery continues to be used by
Macleod as he continues on the reader is told that the father s usually ruddy face was drawn and grey
(228). The father s face was mentioned on a few occasions throughout the story as the reader hears
mention of his sunburnt face (230) just a couple pages later on. The reiteration of a small detail like
this brings emphasis back to the original passage. In order for his face to look drawn and grey
circumstances must be dire. Imagery is in many forms of writing and when used correctly, as in this
passage, it elevates the writing and draws emphasis to specific parts of the story that could be easily
missed without it. Imagery clearly shows the tense manner of this

The Epidemic Of Tobacco Use Essay
Salivary Biomarkers
Introduction:
Worldwide, tobacco use continues to be one of the leading causes of preventable death and has been
estimated to kill more than five million people annually1. Lately, the epidemic of tobacco use has
shifted from developed to developing countries2. It is estimated that by 2030 almost 10 million people
will die from tobacco use per year, with 70% of these deaths occurring in developing countries. India
accounts for one sixth of the tobacco related illnesses worldwide and is estimated to face an
exponential increase in tobacco related mortality from 1.4% of all deaths in 1990 to 13.3% in 20203.
In 2010, out of 52.8 million deaths that occurred worldwide out of which 34.5 million deaths were
attributable to non communicable diseases; more than a quarter of these occur in low income and
middle income countries4 5. Use of tobacco is one of the major risk factor for non communicable
disease which is slowly threatening human life5.
Tobacco smoking in any form constitutes a major risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD),
hypertension (HTN), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), oral, nasopharyngeal, bronchial
and other visceral malignancies6 . Smoking 1 4 cigarettes per day significantly increases the risk of
cardiovascular disease7. Smoking also increases the risk of thrombosis8 (8). Smokers are 3 times
more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than the non smokers. Smokeless tobacco users have a higher
incidence of diabetes

The High Desert Hesperia Analysis
Hesperia, California is my hometown. Hesperia is part of a desert community that locals call The High
Desert . Hesperia is a low income, high crime, underserved area. Over Thirty percent of the population
falls under the poverty line. In addition, only around sixty percent of the adult population have a high
school diploma or the GED equivalent. The majority of people in Hesperia are scraping by just trying
to make it to their next paycheck. In view of most residents living situations, Hesperia has many
wholesome people who try and make a difference throughout the community. The community often
comes together to try and help the less fortunate. An example of this would be the high desert clothing
exchange, one woman runs this exchange out of her garage with only the help of volunteers. The
premise is to bring what you can to donate and take with you need. When you live in a low income
household not having to spend money on new clothing is wonderful. She is always asking for

passionate about something they would not pick up drug habits. It would give them reasons to try

Ipv6 Transition
Abstract
The rapid diffusion of the Internet and development of high speed broadband networks have posed the
problem of inadequate IPv4 address space on the Internet. Moreover, this lack of address space has
been made worse by the progress made towards the ubiquitous network society, in which various
types of information equipment, mobile computers and electrical appliances communicate on the
internet. IPv6 was developed as a solution to this problem. In this paper I discussed various features
provided by IPv6 over IPv4 in terms of improved security, lower administration cost, QoS options,
mobility, auto configuration, and peer to peer capability etc. The transition mechanisms in use today
are discussed in details. I have conducted a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to understand that no matter what technology dominate the market today; tomorrow it
will have to be upgraded to fulfil the demand. When IPv4 was developed it was the latest protocol to
meet the demand of the time. Since the time has changes so has the demand, the need for change was
inevitable. IPv6 introduced the features like increased address space allocation, stateless address
configuration etc which have taken the limit of internet protocol to the edge. The reason behind
choosing the topic of the evolution of internet protocol is to gain detailed knowledge on IP and its
purpose and also discuss the issues related to the transition of IPv4 to IPv6. Besides the need for the
transition and the transition mechanisms will be discussed.
3 Scope of the Research
To conduct the research I will survey on three leading ISPs from Bangladesh. It would have been
much more informative if an interview could have been carried out in person. But since it couldn t be

organisations and how the transition can be done.

Jaws Analysis
When a young woman is killed by a 25 foot killer great white shark while skinny dipping near the
New England tourist town of Amity Island, police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) commits
himself to serve and protect his town by closing the beaches. Unfortunately, the mayor of the island
has a different idea. Mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) overrules him, fearing that the loss of
tourist revenue will cripple the town. Ichthyologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and grizzled ship
captain Quint (Robert Shaw) offer to help Brody capture the killer 25 foot beast, and the trio engage in
an epic battle of man vs. nature. Steven Spielberg s, Jaws is an instant classic horror film that ll bring

This is no mystery or surprise. The creature, which has long been the topic of numerous studies and
experiments, is still a source of great mystery. Why in the world does a shark need to grow the size of
a school bus? Who is it trying to impress with that massiveness? And those teeth? They taught us in
elementary school that a shark might use over 20,000 teeth in its lifetime. If one falls out, another
replaces it. Say what you may about the special effects in Jaws, those teeth look real and they will eat
your face off. So, therefore the movie was so successful. Because of the productions ability to create a
mechanical shark that is similar in anatomy and identical to the real predator, the film could create this
higher sense of man vs nature, good vs evil. This horror film will leave you wondering with the
question of what if this happens to me. Spielberg took something that was so real and had happened
before (shark attacks), and produced a movie that not only warned us and opened our eyes to its
reality, but was also able to deliver us with one of the most classic horror films in the history of

Impact Of Endangered Species
This report will be discussing and talking about endangered species and the impacts they have on
ecosystems. Endangered species is a species of animal or plants at risk of extinction because of human
activity, changes in climate, ruining of ecosystems, etc. This report will be split into different sections
discussing different examples of endangered species and the impacts that they have on different
ecosystems.
Blue whales, weighing in at 200 tonnes are the largest ever known animal to live on the planet. Sadly,
after whaling has occurred it has made the species endangered with only 10000 to 25000 remaining.
Blue whales play a significant role in keeping the food chain stable and helping with the reproduction
of other species. In the marine ecosystem whales help control the distribution of food by helping to
keep a stable food chain and ensuring that certain marine species do not overpopulate the ocean,
however, Blue whales are being killed and the food distribution in the ocean is becoming unstable and
causing major changes in the food supply of many other marine life A Blue Whale is able to consume
as much as 40 million krill per day, so the impact on the marine ecosystem would be huge because
overtime krill will overpopulate which causes problems in maintaining a food chain because the more
krill there is the more food they will eat so because of their new overpopulation it could make other
animals become extinct. If Blue Whales become extinct then marine life will

The Giver Movie And Book Comparison Essay
The Giver started off as a book. Then it was transformed into a movie. These are some differences
between the two. First off, in the book Jonas is 12 years old and in the movie he is 18. Which brings
me to my next reason. They added a special ❤ between Jonas and Fiona that was not in the book. In
the movie there was a lot of things left out. Like in the movie they skipped a year. When you look In
the book it showed when he was a 11 and then his sister was waiting for a bike. Also when Jonas left
in the movie the giver gave him the memory of strength and courage. In the book he does not receive
the memories of strength and courage. In the movie when Jonas was escaping from the community he
rode off in a motorcycle from one of the leaders. In the book he rode a bike. In the book when Jonas is
riding away with Gabe he has to hide behind trees and duck behind bushes so he would not be seen by
the drones. He also runs out of water so he has to drink from a pond he passes. In the movie there ...

then he wants to leave because his brother is going to be killed. He has to go to elsewhere to give the
community all of the memories. The book says that there is no color. In the movie it is all in black and
white until the very end where he gives everyone the memories. In the book they all have the same
jobs as the movie they did not add any or take any away. The movie had the same type of community
as the book. They have the same rules and the same objects. Finally they have the same memories.

Does Your Car Need Up Essay
What Is A Tune Up And Does Your Car Need One? That s a good question, this is something most
people don t think about or forget about all together. Every vehicle s owners manual will have a
schedule in it, listing when you should have this performed. A tune up on vehicles manufactured
before 1990 and one s after 1990 are not the same. On older vehicle s they would actually go in and
tune or adjust things on your vehicles engine such as timing, spark plug gap etc. On modern vehicles
everything is electronic and non adjustable so it is more of a check up. What Is Involved In A Tune
Up? A tune up on modern vehicles typically includes replacement of air and fuel filters, checking of
the spark plugs and plug wires and replacement if necessary. They may also check your timing belt
and water pump as these components must be replace at certain times which vary depending on the
vehicle. There are many other components that are not checked during this process, such as the
breaking system, cooling system and other important parts. If you are going to take your vehicle in
annually for a tune up it is a good idea to have a complete vehicle check up at the same time. That way

Song Of Myself Poem Analysis
As stated above, Song of Myself is one of the original 12 poems from the original publication of
Leaves of Grass that eventually grew to encompass 52 sections of Whitman s expression of what he
believed being an American truly meant in a way that caught to unite all people regardless of who they
were or how they lived their life. The poem is centered around 5 themes, with those 5 being identity,
Whitman s vision of an American in which everyone was equal and united as one, friendship,
spirituality, and sexuality.
The first theme, identity, is perhaps the most central theme of the poem, despite the word itself only
appearing in the poem a handful of times. To elaborate, Whitman was drawn to the idea of the
transcendentalist principal of the oversoul the soul that is connected to the souls of everyone on this
earth; in his mind, private experiences and thoughts were nonexistent, instead, he believed that he
experienced the pain and suffering as well as the joys and pleasures of the natural world and all of its
inhabitance because he is connected to them by the oversoul and thereby was at one with them, or so
to speak. This belief is greatly reflected through the poem, although, a good example of such can be
seen in the first section of the poem, in which he states that he celebrates himself and assumes what
you(the reader) shall assume because for every atom belonging to me as good belonging to you ; when
he says he celebrates himself , he is actually referring

An Effective Power Of Attorney
#1 Ineffective Power of Attorney
Whether one has an effective Durable Power of Attorney document can mean the difference between
having a trusted person handle all of your affairs, in a manner that you would yourself if you could,
versus having to endure a costly Guardianship proceeding. Therefore, having an effective power of
attorney can be crucial. Keep in mind that all Power of Attorney documents are not the same.
In fact, even if you have a Durable Power of Attorney, you will want to make sure it has sufficient
language so that your Agent can indeed administer all your affairs without the need of judicial
intervention. In other words, by having a custom Power of Attorney document that meets all your
needs, you could save thousands of dollars by avoiding Guardianship Court.
#2 No Backup
So you have found your trusted person to act for you if you are unable. Perhaps you have chosen your
spouse, an adult child, maybe a dear friend. Question now is: What happens if that person becomes
incapable of acting for you in your time of need. For example, What if the person you named has died
or is incapacitated him or herself? The question will then be: Do you have a backup were the first
person you named is unable to act for you? For couples, they will often name a trusted adult child as a
backup.
In the context of not having a backup Power of Attorney, a Guardianship may be required. In the
context of medical directives, you may be at the mercy of the

Marketing research refers to a well planned and rational study analysis and interpretation of marketing

Education Policies And The Greens
Social wellbeing is contingent upon equitable social policy addressing all varieties of demographics
and needs. One highly contested social policy issue in Aotearoa is that of tertiary education. Tertiary
education policies are proposed by multiple parties, however the most contentious of these can be
drawn from the Greens and ACT who hold highly opposing social wellbeing ideologies. Essentially, to
reveal binary oppositions between these policies, market and state ideologies must be considered, in
addition to the opposing views of individualism and collectivism which form the cornerstone of how
social wellbeing will be met. Moreover, the differences ACT and the Greens see in what tertiary
education should offer, ultimately reveal their opposing ideologies in policy, and their perspectives
towards social wellbeing. Act and the Greens both agree that Aotearoa as a country in the developed
world should face minimal social inequalities, however they hold vastly different opinions on how this
should be achieved. By comparing ACT who hold market beliefs to the Greens who hold state beliefs
it is increasingly evident that extreme beliefs drawn from either end of the political spectrum pose
significant problems in meeting social milestones. Market beliefs are often viewed as conservative and

In doing so, it creates more space around the spinal cord. The cervical portion of the spine is made up
of your uppermost vertebrae in the neck. This procedure is known to be combined with the posterior
fossa decompression surgery. Both treatments work to maximize the restoration of cerebrospinal fluid
flow.
3. Spinal Fusion
In this procedure, the surgeon will join the skull and the uppermost vertebra of the neck so they come
together and heal as a single bone, increasing stability and support. This procedure protects the spinal
cord from further damage.
4. CSF Diversion
CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) is the fluid that bathes the brain and spinal cord. It is formed in the
ventricles of the brain and follows a course down the spinal column and back up to the brain, where it
is reabsorbed into the bloodstream.
CSF diversion is a way to deal with the buildup of cerebrospinal fluid. This surgery is typically used
in secondary cases of Chiari where hydrocephalus (abnormally increased pressure in the skull) forces
the cerebellum down to create the Chiari. In this procedure, the cerebrospinal fluid is treated by
shunting the CSF elsewhere in the body (typically the abdomen), where it can be reabsorbed into the
bloodstream.

Examples Of Dystopia In The Giver
The Giver by Lois Lowry takes its readers into a world of pure utopianism, or so it seems. The book
portrays a seemingly perfect society in which there is no pain, hurt, and corruption. Lying beneath the
veneer of perfection, however, is the fact that the community is in emotional and mental chaos. No
one knew of the problems the society was facing, because the state of life in which they lived now was
all they knew. The community was missing out on many wonderful things to obtain what they thought
was perfection (Politics and Film Database). A utopia is a world in which there are no problems, and
the opposite would be a dystopia (Pryor Utopia and Dystopia ). In a utopia one can find peace and
love, but in a dystopia there is only malice and corruption, often masked by illusion of controlling
everything for the good of the community. As seen in The Giver and several examples from history,
there is no such thing as a utopian society, as utopianism will never be reached without God. Those
that try to do so will only end up with dystopianism

The Oneida community, also known as the complex marriage, was established in upstate New York in

was the husband of every woman and every woman was the wife of every man (Dunn 2013). Even
though they were all married to each other, sexual relations were limited and a committee would

However, the United States and Russia both appear to stand steadfast due to a fear of showing
weakness. However, eventually egos are set aside, and cooler heads prevail allowing the two nations
to begin talks of de escalating the situation. Now, each country is ready with a set of specific demands
for the other government to agree upon to allow negotiations to succeed. For instance, the Russian
Prime Minister demands that the United States agree not to invade Cuba after the Russian troops and
supplies pull back from the island (History.com Staff, 2009). Also, the United States President requires
that all Russian ballistic missiles return to their garrison base. Now, both countries agree to the initial

condition of the United States; the Russian Prime Minister asks for all missiles that currently reside in
Turkey go back to the United States (Scott Smith, 1994, p.669). Consequently, President Kennedy

enable prompt dialogs. Now, that there is a substantial explanation of international negotiations that

Limitations Of Reducing Crime In A School Environment
Limitations of reducing crime in a school environment.
There are always limitations to deter actions at school because the environment is meant to be a safe
haven for children and teens to go in and get a proper education. So, stepping up security in schools is
not always possible because parents would not always support the advancement of security, due to
risks with safety and the atmosphere where they would not want their children in. The focus of my
qualitative research is to find if there is a correlation between the level of education that a person has
and the amount of crime they commit/ will commit based on their educational level. The objectives
during the study will be to find certain patterns that may underline why or why not crime rates differ
based on the level of education that a person has. One question and objective of the study is to find out
whether extracurricular activities advocate students to avoid committing crimes because they were a
part of a different society outside of the classroom and that would hypothetically reduce crime because
they value their person more.
Limitations of identifying a correct correspondence of a certain variable to the others.
Limitations of being able to identify school conditions.

The research design selected for this experiment is participant observation. Where we would develop a
sustained relationship with people and observe them as they go about their days during school and

the experiment, and see if they influence the subject participants. With the exception that we
understand a subject cannot be constantly followed due to restrictions, so we intend on placing
restrictions to allow more concurrent observations of the ethnographic study. The limitations will be
that an observer may only observe a participant on their way to school, on their way back, and during

opportunities that make Sugar Bowl a viable business in the long term. The company s key strengths
are Shelby Givens as its strategic leader and Charlie Campbell as its private event sales person. Both
individuals are crucial intangible resources that help Sugar Bowl achieve a sustainable competitive
advantage.
Givens s obtained valuable knowledge about marketing from the general manager that runs a
successful bowling venue in Washington, D.C. In addition, she managed to find methods to increase
revenue by keeping costs down. For example, she was able to increase average customer spending to
$50 by narrowing down the menu, re negotiating the company s catering contract, and increasing the
prices of the best selling plates (2012, p. 8). In like manner, Charlie Campbell was able to quickly line
up a potential of $35,000 in revenue in his first months working with the company. Campbell provides

Failure Of The Stalemate On The Western Front
The main theatre of fighting in World War One was on the Western Front. The Western Front was a
stretch of land weaving through France and Belgium from the Swiss Boarder to the North Sea. The
belligerents on the Western front consisted of the central powers, Austria Hungary and Germany pitted
against the Entente Powers. This involved the British empire, the Russian empire and the French with
the addition of the United States from 1917 onwards. The creation of the stalemate on the Western
Front is linked to a variety of reasons. These include the failure of the Schlieffen plan, The Battle of
the Marne, Plan 17 and the Race to the Sea and the defensiveness of weapons. Failure of the
Schlieffen Plan To a large extent the failure of the Schlieffen plan was the most significant reason for
the creation of the western front. The Schleiffen Plan was a defensive military strategy to deal with the
French and Russian forces , staunch allies, in order to avoid a war on two fronts. Which was not what
Germany wanted. This plan created by Von Schleiffen Outlined that troops being sent through
Belgium and the Netherlands whilst simultaneously having the bulk of troops travel down to defend
the Alsace Lorraine region which Germany had gained in the Franco Prussian war (1970). The troops
at Belgium would attack as a hammer swing effect for they would travel south and around Paris

Analysis Of Ann Marie Macdonald s Fall On Your Knees
The extraordinarily horrible stories of multiple families connected together through love, marriage,
and friendship, all slowly unravel in Ann Marie MacDonald s award winning novel, Fall on Your
Knees . The story begins with Materia Mahmoud eloping with James Piper, who both move to a small
Village together in Nova Scotia where they raise a family of girls, all of very different personalities.
Materia always tries to be the best mother she can be, and James is a good man who had an
unfortunate upbringing, which eventually corrupts his morals later on when he has his own family.
Through various events in the story, three basic archetypes become very evident in the main
characters. These three archetypes include the Nurturer, the Outlaw, and the Explorer, which all
become very obvious, quite early in the story. The first archetype seen in this story, the Nurturer, is
revealed in two characters: Materia and her second daughter Mercedes. The Nurturer is responsible,
organized, and loving, and is very good at taking care of others. Materia is not moulded into a nurturer
until she has her second child, Mercedes. Materia has trouble loving her first daughter Kathleen and is

Theological Turning Points Book Review
Theological Turning Points is written by Donald K. McKim. This work focuses on the major
theological issues that Christianity has faced for centuries. These theological issues often go through
several turning points that help resolve their problems. After reading through this book, I found myself
learning new information that has helped clear any misunderstandings that I had towards Christianity.
I have a better understanding of the Christology of who Jesus was, the sacrament of Baptism, and the
Eschatology of what the Kingdom of God is.
Theological Turning Points made me feel more informed on who Jesus Christ was. Jesus is our savior
who came down to earth to die for our sins, but I wasn t sure if Jesus was to be considered pro divine
or pro human. I wasn t sure if Jesus was God taking a human form, or if he was truly human like every
other person. Justin Martyr believed that Jesus preexisted as God and was made flesh of the virgin,
being born as a man (McKim, 1988, pg. 27). Apollinarius ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I always considered the Kingdom of God to be created when God returns to earth and begins his work
in creating the new heaven and earth. However, this only half of what I learned from Theological
Turning Points. John Calvin conceived the Kingdom of God in two ways. The Kingdom of God for
Calvin has two senses: (1) the teaching the Gospel by which Christ gathers the church to himself and
(2) the actual fellowship of the godly, who, have been united among themselves by the sincere faith of
the Gospel (McKim, 1988, pg. 161 162). In the first sense, the kingdom of God has already been
created when Christ died on the cross for our sins, but in the second sense, the world had not yet been
united under God s banner. I am also reminded by Karl Barth that the kingdom of God escapes all
intellectual systematizing (McKim, 1988, pg. 164). The true glory of the Kingdom of God will never
be understood until the day it

School security has been a major problem in the United States since the last few years. There have

Schools, 10 of which are Middle Schools, 25 of which are Elementary Schools, and 5 preschools.
The number of school shootings in the 2 3 years, has exponentially grown. Approximately every
month there is at least one major shooting. The cause of the problem is either students with mental
disorders or no control over gun usage. Researchers gathered records of school shootings, and
concluded that national media coverage of a mass shooting might influence kids. ... Show more

There should be restrictions and limitations to how, when and where guns can be used. This might
decrease the number of shootings and the amount of gun violence. There have been incidents when
kids have stolen their parents gun and brought it to school. On October 22, 2015, there was a school
shooting in, Tennessee State University in Nashville. Cameron Selmon, a 19 year old student was shot
and killed after an argument over a dice game. The incident happened after an argument over a dice

Business Lessons in World of Warcraft
Massive multiplayer online role playing games is one of the largest online collaboration environments
that exists in the world today. Popular games like, World of Warcraft, see thousands of people around
the world interact with one another. With this interaction the creation of virtual economies becomes
apparent. This paper argues that players of World of Warcraft are taught basic business concepts and
ideas which can translate into real life business lessons. The paper will firstly define the nature of
World of Warcraft as a massive online game. It will then examine and explain a series of in game
business concepts and how they relate to the real world. World of Warcraft (released in November
2004 by Blizzard Entertainment) is a fantasy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Large corporations might choose to consolidate their IT system in one virtualized (and very
expensive) server farm saving on hardware, support and maintenance costs over time. Seasonality is
described as systemic and a calendar related effect. In the real world, seasonal events affect the price
and demand for particular products and/or services. For instance, Christmas is a time when retail
stores experience a large influx of consumers. In the last month of 2005, an estimated 21.1 billion
dollars ($500,000 per minute) was spent by Australians leading up to the Christmas period (Fleur
Leyden 2005, Business). In the same way, seasonal events in World of Warcraft influence price and
demand for particular products and/or services. During Christmas time the cities within World of
Warcraft are decorated with trees and adornments. At the same time players are required to complete
quests, in order to progress in the game, that are only available during this seasonal event. Candles are
a major component in completing these quests. As demand increases so does the price of raw materials
to make candles. By understanding seasonality and its affects, players learn that they can increase
there profits by savings the raw materials leading up to the calendar event, and demand the highest
price when the time is right. Crafting in World of Warcraft is known as a

Philosophy Summative Assignment Discuss the main philosophical schools of thought and methods of reasoning relevant to the practice of chiropractic Introduction This assignment will discuss the main philosophical schools of thought and methods of reasoning relevant to the practice of chiropractic. It is relevant to first understanding the meaning of chiropractic, philosophy and its branches. The main schools of thought; vitalism, holism and naturalism to name a few, will be discussed and related to the practice of chiropractic. Chiropractic (Greek kheir, hand, and praktikos, practitioner) is defined as the science of treating human ailments by adjustment of the spine Bradbury, P. (1957). It is grounded in the principle that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The questions above can be answered by relating to the schools of thought, from connecting these thoughts to the questions imposed, philosophy of chiropractic will evolve. A Brief History Throughout its short life time, Chiropractic has been divided by its internal factors; chiropractors themselves. Chiropractic has been split for the last 100 years into at least two metaphysical camps because of the inability to have honest, intellectual and critical debate over philosophical issues (Coulter, 2000); innatists and rationalists. Innatists held their belief in vitalism. Opposing this are the rationalists, who choose to reject the innate and universal intelligence. It is possible that this conflict arose due to D.D. Palmer s confusion about philosophy and how it imposes chiropractic (Coulter, I.D. 1999). It is likely early happenings resulted in chiropractic defending its profession with chiropractic philosophy rather than clarifying the nature of the profession by teaching philosophy of chiropractic . This conflict had immediate impact on practice. Two types of chiropractors; straights, claiming true chiropractic philosophy , practicing on the spine only, and mixers; who embraced a wider range of practice, treating the whole body (Coulter, I.D. 1999). The concept of innate intelligence found itself wedged between the split, embraced by the innatists, and persistent of dogma for the rationalists. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Almost everyone is acquainted with the experience of finishing a big meal and the accompanying state of drowsiness or lassitude. How many times we have taken resolutions to not over indulge in our favorite food in the family occasions, celebratory meals or just regular heavy meals. Those are the times when a couch seems more appealing and dozing off is the best possible idea. Sounds like a familiar experience? This phenomenon is called as food coma. There is a psychological effect involved which makes a person feel lazy and tired all at once. Myths Drop in blood flow from brain and oxygen delivery Mostly people believe there is a drop in oxygen and blood flow after a meal which leads to after meal drowsiness and sleepiness. But this is wrong because even though there is an increase in blood flow due to passage of food in the gastrointestinal tracts, it is generally from the skeletal muscle tissue and also by increasing the rate of blood pumped per minute by the heart. Tryptophan present in the Turkey Popular myth among everyone is that turkey is very rich in tryptophan which when consumed during a Thanksgiving Day result in more than usual sleepiness and food coma. This is because tryptophan produces serotonin which is associated with relaxation and sleepiness. However, the amount of tryptophan present in turkey is similar to chicken, beef, and other meats. The quantity required to raise brain serotonin level cannot be achieved by eating servings of turkey. Marlow and the Mariner in Heart of Darkness and The Rime of the Ancient Mariner are both morally ambiguous characters with many similarities. Each embarks on a great journey in which their character is tested numerous times. Their trials lead to many profound revelations about humanity, which are explored in ways only possible because of their hazy morality. At the start of their adventures, both Marlow and the Mariner were only sailors looking for adventure and fortune. The motivations for their actions were simple; Marlow was lost in all the glories of exploration (pg. 13), and the Mariner was only seeking to avoid a storm. His decision to continue no matter what caused him to wait quite a while for the rivets necessary to begin his journey down the river and the helmsman to die in the barrage of the natives before ever reaching Kurtz. But it was the same traits that allowed him to analyze the true nature of the lawless environment and of the people in it, as in his suspicion of the natives not being inhuman (pg. 37). The adventures of Marlow and the Mariner ended with profound revelations. After he unconsciously blessed the snakes, he was returned to his homeland by a higher power. But he had penance more (l. 410) to do for his actions. Upon returning, he found himself compelled to tell his story to those that needed to hear it, and to seek out new recipients of his story through long travels, teaching them all to respect all the creatures of the Earth. Upon finding Kurtz, Marlow was able to see the true significance of Kurtz s transformation, being free from the hypocrisy of his crewmates. Kurtz, too, is tinged with moral ambiguity; he began as an upstanding, educated citizen, but even he couldn t resist the corruption of an environment without any restrictions on his actions. His lust for power and ivory consumed him, transforming him into a brutal, greedy man without respect for any kind of code. He thought of himself as a god. But ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The UPQC helps to improve power quality at the point of installation on power distribution system or industrial power system. This paper deals with design of UPQC by considering a controller based on PQ theory. Reference signal generation for shunt active filter is done by using PQ theory while for series dual PQ theory is used [2], [3]. Reference signals are then applied to pulse generators. Pulse generation is carried out by using hysteresis band controller for each filter. The validation of proposed scheme is carried out by using Matlab/Simulink. • 6. Little Bee By Jacques Lacan And Chris Cleave s Little Bee Language can be seen throughout all cultures and intertwined in every part of people s daily lives. It can be argued as the building blocks of society, as there are virtually no means of communication without some form of language. For the nigerian refugee Little Bee, language has to do with life or death, trying to survive in her new world when she has been detained in England. She struggles with learning the Queen s English , all the while trying to stay safe without the protection of her friends from home and the language that she is accustomed to. Two men: post structuralist psychoanalyst, Jacques Lacan and nineteenth century linguist and semiologist, Ferdinand de Saussure, both have famous theories about language that can be related to the book Little Bee, by Chris Cleave. The ability for Little Bee to learn a new variation of her own language can be outlined in the works of both Jacques Lacan and Ferdinand de Saussure. Both men devoted their lives to the study of language and how it related people to the world around them. Jacques Lacan s theory, described by author Fredric Jameson as The Prison House of Language , means that once we have learned a language, we can not see outside of it; there is no other way to communicate or represent the world. Saussure goes more in depth into language and has more points about the role that language plays. His main model, structuralism, can be defined as the methodology that parts of culture are understood by their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In addition, they looked down upon several members of society, but they were needed due to the control over certain industries such as railroads, oil, steel, etc. They used this industrial power to gain higher political rank, and ultimately they used their wealth to better themselves. Summary Of Alistair Macleod s The Boat The Dilemma Between Tradition and Opportunity Through the angle in the screen door I saw my father who had been walking into his room wheel around on one of his rubber booted heels and look at her with his blue eyes flashing like clearest ice beneath the snow that was his hair. His usually ruddy face was drawn and grey, reflecting the exhaustion of a man of sixty five who had been working in those rubber boots for eleven hours on an August day, and for a fleeting moment I wondered what I would do if he killed my mother while I stood there in the porch with those three foolish mackerel in my hand. Then he turned and went into his room and the radio blared forth the next day s weather forecast and I retreated under the noise and returned again, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Macleod talks about the father s blue eyes flashing like clearest ice beneath the snow that was his hair (228) the reader has a picture painted in their mind. This sentence uses imagery to put emphasis behind the glare of the father s eyes. The word ice also has a second effect as it can refer to the cold heartedness and fuming temper of the father in the passage. Imagery continues to be used by Macleod as he continues on the reader is told that the father s usually ruddy face was drawn and grey (228). The father s face was mentioned on a few occasions throughout the story as the reader hears mention of his sunburnt face (230) just a couple pages later on. • 11. Ipv6 Transition Abstract The rapid diffusion of the Internet and development of high speed broadband networks have posed the problem of inadequate IPv4 address space on the Internet. Moreover, this lack of address space has been made worse by the progress made towards the ubiquitous network society, in which various types of information equipment, mobile computers and electrical appliances communicate on the internet. IPv6 was developed as a solution to this problem. In this paper I discussed various features provided by IPv6 over IPv4 in terms of improved security, lower administration cost, QoS options, mobility, auto configuration, and peer to peer capability etc. The transition mechanisms in use today are discussed in details. It is important to understand that no matter what technology dominate the market today; tomorrow it will have to be upgraded to fulfil the demand. When IPv4 was developed it was the latest protocol to meet the demand of the time. Since the time has changes so has the demand, the need for change was inevitable. IPv6 introduced the features like increased address space allocation, stateless address configuration etc which have taken the limit of internet protocol to the edge. The reason behind choosing the topic of the evolution of internet protocol is to gain detailed knowledge on IP and its purpose and also discuss the issues related to the transition of IPv4 to IPv6. Besides the need for the transition and the transition mechanisms will be discussed. 3 Scope of the Research To conduct the research I will survey on three leading ISPs from Bangladesh. Blue whales, weighing in at 200 tonnes are the largest ever known animal to live on the planet. Song Of Myself Poem Analysis As stated above, Song of Myself is one of the original 12 poems from the original publication of Leaves of Grass that eventually grew to encompass 52 sections of Whitman s expression of what he believed being an American truly meant in a way that caught to unite all people regardless of who they were or how they lived their life. The poem is centered around 5 themes, with those 5 being identity, Whitman s vision of an American in which everyone was equal and united as one, friendship, spirituality, and sexuality. The first theme, identity, is perhaps the most central theme of the poem, despite the word itself only appearing in the poem a handful of times. To elaborate, Whitman was drawn to the idea of the transcendentalist principal of the oversoul the soul that is connected to the souls of everyone on this earth; in his mind, private experiences and thoughts were nonexistent, instead, he believed that he experienced the pain and suffering as well as the joys and pleasures of the natural world and all of its inhabitance because he is connected to them by the oversoul and thereby was at one with them, or so to speak. This belief is greatly reflected through the poem, although, a good example of such can be seen in the first section of the poem, in which he states that he celebrates himself and assumes what you(the reader) shall assume because for every atom belonging to me as good belonging to you ; when he says he celebrates himself , he is actually referring ... One highly contested social policy issue in Aotearoa is that of tertiary education. Tertiary education policies are proposed by multiple parties, however the most contentious of these can be drawn from the Greens and ACT who hold highly opposing social wellbeing ideologies. Essentially, to reveal binary oppositions between these policies, market and state ideologies must be considered, in addition to the opposing views of individualism and collectivism which form the cornerstone of how social wellbeing will be met. Moreover, the differences ACT and the Greens see in what tertiary education should offer, ultimately reveal their opposing ideologies in policy, and their perspectives towards social wellbeing. The book portrays a seemingly perfect society in which there is no pain, hurt, and corruption. No one knew of the problems the society was facing, because the state of life in which they lived now was all they knew. The belligerents on the Western front consisted of the central powers, Austria Hungary and Germany pitted against the Entente Powers. This involved the British empire, the Russian empire and the French with the addition of the United States from 1917 onwards. These include the failure of the Schlieffen plan, The Battle of the Marne, Plan 17 and the Race to the Sea and the defensiveness of weapons. These theological issues often go through several turning points that help resolve their problems. After reading through this book, I found myself learning new information that has helped clear any misunderstandings that I had towards Christianity. I have a better understanding of the Christology of who Jesus was, the sacrament of Baptism, and the Eschatology of what the Kingdom of God is. Theological Turning Points made me feel more informed on who Jesus Christ was. Jesus is our savior who came down to earth to die for our sins, but I wasn t sure if Jesus was to be considered pro divine or pro human. I wasn t sure if Jesus was God taking a human form, or if he was truly human like every other person. Justin Martyr believed that Jesus preexisted as God and was made flesh of the virgin, being born as a man (McKim, 1988, pg. 27). Apollinarius ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I always considered the Kingdom of God to be created when God returns to earth and begins his work in creating the new heaven and earth. However, this only half of what I learned from Theological Turning Points. John Calvin conceived the Kingdom of God in two ways. The Kingdom of God for Calvin has two senses: (1) the teaching the Gospel by which Christ gathers the church to himself and (2) the actual fellowship of the godly, who, have been united among themselves by the sincere faith of the Gospel (McKim, 1988, pg. 161 162). In the first sense, the kingdom of God has already been created when Christ died on the cross for our sins, but in the second sense, the world had not yet been united under God s banner. I am also reminded by Karl Barth that the kingdom of God escapes all intellectual systematizing (McKim, 1988, pg. 164).
