Comparison Of Internal And External Conflicts And Their...
The comparison of internal and external conflicts and their affects on lives.
Essay? HOOK:
The story Blue Winds Dancing by Thomas S. Whitecloud demonstrates the experience of a native man
transitioning to his life into a white society. It exhibits the internal and external struggles in the native
s life that he encounters throughout his life. However, the native is an outcast and has a longing to go
back to his native reserve. In comparison, Angel Levine by Bernard Malamud describes the life of a
Jewish man, named Manischevitz, who lost everything: his children, his business, and his wife
because of her fatal illness. He reaches out to God, but there is no response which also leads him to
lose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manischevitz is distraught when a Black Angel appears to help, and he realises that all hope is lost.
This negatively affects Mr. Manischevitz because he seeks affirmation from God, although, he does
not believe in the black angel s powers. This leads Manischevitz down a spiral where he smote to the
naked bones, cursing himself for having believed in God to help him in his time of need. On the other
hand, in Blue Winds Dancing, the native also undergoes an internal conflict; the native feels alone and
lost in the White world. He feels like an outsider with no place in the white world that he desperately
wants to accept him. The native compares himself to a hobo because they both are outsiders because
they cherish different things from a typical white man. Additionally, the native in the story does not
have a name to symbolize that his experience is very similar to many other natives who want to be
apart of the white world. Overall, the native is having an Identity crisis because he does not know
whether to acculturate and become like every other white man or go back to the blanket because it is
familiar to him. He longs for home because he does not agree with the white man s customs of getting
a hill and wanting a mountain . He wants to return back home where people can be free and the native
can truly be himself. These internal conflicts are similar because both protagonists encounter identity
crises which cause them to seek affirmation in their faith

Analyse Character Traits
There are a few traits listed that I admire greatly among others, and would like to think that I hold
myself or am working on perfecting those traits within my being. Three main ones would be
Openness, Responsibility, and Empathy. People who are open minded tend to be the ones that are
responsible for our ever so evolving world, standards, morals, ethics, society, and way of life as it is.
This to me automatically makes them important and special, as the world and society would not be so
advanced as we are today without these type of people. I feel these individuals are not so quick to
speak, judge, and hold down others. If Christopher Columbus was not so exploratory due to his open
minded thinking, then perhaps we would live in a world that continued to think the earth was simply
flat. I personally feel that nothing is really so simple in this life, therefore, the same way of thinking,
acting, reacting, fitting, living, preserving, remedying and so forth....all of this could not ... Show more

The world could not improve if there were no people in it to see that improvements need to be made. I
think the world would be a more cruel and dark place without these individuals. It is my belief that
these types of people have a lot to offer and much to teach others. When I come across people such as
this, it is like taking a breath of fresh air after being under water for so long; it is not so common to
meet someone like this...because they preserve honesty, not just towards others, but within themselves.
Many changes I have made in my life have stemmed from me taking responsibility for my actions and
then making a plan to do better or something different that can provide better outcomes in the

Qualitative Strategies
I will explain how quantitative and qualitative strategies and methods/procedures are similar and
different. In qualitative strategies, there is a focus on data collection, analysis and writing (p. 176). In
qualitative strategies usually may fall in line with survey designs and experiments. The strategies
followed the same general format such as purpose, data collection, data analysis and conclusion. The
differences between the two for methods and procedures is the following: for quantitative methods
they tend to be used in a pretest and posttest control group designs. This is done by following six steps
which include administering measures of the dependent variable, assign the participants to pairs,
randomly assign members to the control group or experimental group, expose the experimental group,
administer measures of dependent variables and finally the performance. For ... Show more content on

There are two examples of qualitative methods, but one can see that the questions ask were best
served by qualitative methods. The question what resources are available to adolescent school students
in India and Sri Lanka to deal with mental health issues? In what ways could they provide assistance?
This is best by qualitative method because you would have spoken to the adolescents to see what they
felt was available to them, that is bets conducted through interviewing. Some additional research
questions they came up with when reviewing their theoretical framework was what were the culturally
valued personal and social competencies?? What were the social stressors? As stated by the video,
qualilative research method would be effective because they were trying to understand mental health
from the perspective of people who s culture differed greatly than the researchers. They desired to

management tasks that might help the organization to...
Identify 5 to 10 expected ongoing management tasks that might help the organization to prepare to
administer the network operating system:
Network and computer systems administrators are responsible for the day to day operation of an
organization s computer networks. They organize, install, and support an organization s computer
systems, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), network segments,
intranets, and other data communication systems. Being a System or Network Administrator of a large
computer network can be a difficult, and time consuming task. It is not as simple as people might
think. Yes, once it is all running well, the life of a Network Administrator may seem easy, but when
things go wrong, it can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Remember to always think of the future. Once it s all implemented and built, you can administer your
network.
When administrating a network, you have to ensure critical services have as close to 100% uptime,
because if they are down, your users are going to hassle you all the time and that can be quite
annoying with some users. When maintaining a network, you also have a number of other tasks to
perform every day. These include:
User management
Adding, removing and apply security to user accounts and groups
Hardware
Upgrading hardware
Replacing faulting hardware
Software
Providing support for applications and operating systems
Ensuring critical data is being backed up
Monitoring
Monitor the system
Checking logs
Conducting security audits
Support
Attending to users help requests
Writing documentation
One of the hardest challenges in administrating a network is application support. You can very rarely
just add a major application or a network service without any issues. Your network will need to
support it. For example, you cannot host a website if you only have dialup internet. Other factors that
are needed to be taken into consideration are:
Does it need to be secured? Both physically and virtually; internally and externally
Can the application be supported Are their people who know how to use the application?
What risks will it introduce? Viruses, Hackers, privacy?
Is there enough network capacity to

Graham Green s The Quiet American Essay
Graham Green s The Quiet American
The Quiet American by Graham Green is a story set during the Vietnam War before the United States
became involved. The main character is Thomas Fowler, an English Reporter stationed in Vietnam.
The story follows approximately six months of his life where he is faced with personal, professional,
and ethical trials. The story also follows closely, the lives of two close friends, Pyle and Phuong. Each
of the three main characters are from a different country, and they were used to represent it.
As the main character in the novel, Fowler possessed many complex levels to his psyche.
He came across as a bitter, cold hearted person but in actuality was probably the character that felt the
most in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is the perfect gentlemen, has money, and a good future. Pyle was a very quiet American (17). Only
he does possess one flaw, he is an assassin. He aids in the making of bombs and helps with the actual
bombing of areas. He was responsible for the bomb that killed several women and children in the
town square and all he could think about was the fact that he had to clean the blood off of his shoes
before he met with the Minister. He represented America, in that he pretended to stay out of the
situation, and simply be a good guy , but in reality was extremely involved. Much like the US was not
actually fighting, but helping France economically to fight instead, and wasn t publicly in the war until
the 60 s but was most likely involved earlier than that.
Eighteen year old, Vietnamese Phuong was terribly naive. This young girl was in a state of peace with
Fowler, but what she really wanted was to be settled, married. She, much like Vietnam, was being
fought for. And was constantly wavering between Fowler and Pyle. The Vietnamese want[ed] enough
rice (94) that s all, and all Phuong wanted was to be settled. That was why she left Fowler for Pyle,
why Pyles death wasn t so devastating for her, and why she was so happy to be able to be the second
Mrs. Fowler.
All three of these characters were believable. They were all flawed, and with a slight exception of
Pyle, all

Analysis Of The Article How Animals Keep Their Cool By...

Fall 2017
It s hard to believe, but the season of fall has been with us since the near end of September, however
many of us haven t seem to put away our summer attire and for good reason too. No one wants to
sweat more than they have to. I say have to because sweating is a part of life. Many creatures get hot,
but the way they stay cool and regulate their temperature varies. In the science article How Animals
Keep Their Cool by Johanna Mayer, she explains how animals have evolved to beat the heat .
Humans are able to regulate their body temperature by sweating. Sweating, also known as perspiration
is explained as the release of a salt based fluid from our sweat glands. As sweat evaporates from the
skin, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mayer, once more makes this idea simple for all reads to truly comprehend the idea that she has
explained. Mayer wants her readers to imagine running their palm across a surface; i infer a smooth
one, because her imagery she writes is our palms should slide across. The sweat from a cat paw tells
them to grip the floor or couch to avoid sliding across the floor or falling off the couch.
The article does note that horses primary cooling mechanism is panting, like our four legged house
pets, yet it is the horse s snout that helps with the process. Lizards also have a unique way to stay cool,
which can result in moving between warmer and cooler areas or standing still, with its mouth opening.
Lizards tend to open their mouths to allow evaporation to occur. Lizards do not have an internal
mechanism to adjust their body temperature, and must make adjustment to their behavior to cool off.
Butterflies have a similar cool off method compared to lizards because they move into shady areas.
Butterflies can cool themselves while flying too.
Most humans can tolerate being in the heat for long periods of time because we can constantly sweat
to cool ourselves off. This is why there are so many different types of deodorant companies and styles.
Humans have a specific kind of sweat gland called eccrine glands that allows us to cool off. Mayer
states some hypothesis as to why and how did

* If you do not plan to use the computer for a while, try either turning it off, or putting it into a power
save mode. This will allow the computer to take a break and cool off for a while. * Try to avoid
having a computer placed right next to a floor heater of any kind as this will just increase the amount
of external heat being taken in by the computer.
With these few simple steps you are on your way to having a cooler safer computer, but there are other
issues to look out for, leading me into my next topic.
Dust!!! Now don t get me wrong, I m not saying anyone has a dirty house, but it s a fact that dust is

bristle head to lightly clean the vent fans and the computer case. This also works for laptops. The
bristles are a good way to remove loads of dirt and dust and to make sure your computer can vent
properly. * Canned Air is a must for any computer technician; I know we have loads of it at work. You

The Importance Of Outreach In America
Midway between the summer before last, I had the opportunity to take a trip not as a vacation, but
rather a missionary outreach. Before this chance I had never exactly been given a chance to travel to
somewhere very different from my residence in Lincoln, Nebraska. This outreach was held at the
YWAM(youth with a mission) Los Angeles, California chapter. When it had been announced that the
youth would be taking this trip to L.A. I had gone over to converse with my youth pastor Michael.
Every time I go to speak with Michael it always tends to brighten up my day. He is one of those
people who can turn your day around by just talking and venting to. I go to speak with the tall and
olive skinned man, who quite ironically has the features of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As we arrived at the base we were divided into cabins male and female. Several moments later I was
introduced to our Cabin father, Erick. Erick works in the missions field year round, because of this, he
was given a cabin to call home for as long as he lives in L.A.
Once I got close enough to Erick I instantly concluded that he was a surfer. The man s long, shaggy,
brown hair was constantly wet as though he had just gotten back from the beach. He always had an
aroma of salt around him, although it was sweet rather than a reeking scent, like saltwater taffy. In
order to arrive at our cabin we had to take a half mile walk uphill where it was to dark to see. The
instant I walked in the front door I rushed to get a good room, and crashed.
I woke up to a noise I had never dreamed I would arise to in Los Angeles. Silence.
I as I took my first step outside to be blinded by midday light although it was half past six in the
morning. Once my eyes adjusted I was blinded by something else, the beauty of the mountain we were
current residing on. From the base one can see the bright teal of the ocean crashing upon the land even
though we were easily thirty miles from the easternmost edge of the city. The sun shining of the
skyscrapers in the distance made them more impressive as if they were giants showing of their brand

38 Who Saw Hollander Analysis
Are there any acceptable reasons for letting someone die in front of your eyes? In the article The
Murder They Heard written by Stanley Milgram and Paul Hollander and first appearing in The Nation,
Milgram and Hollander explored the reasons for the neighbors failure to help, their lack of civic sense
and their actions toward Catherine Genovese s murder, in part, they are responding to the hype created
around Martin Gansberg s 38 Who Saw Murder Didn t Call the Police. Milgram and Hollander argued
that the witnesses were not at fault in that murder and instead, they blamed the city life, society norms,
law, and the situational pressure. Even though Milgram and Hollander stated some acceptable reasons
to think that the witnesses were not guilty, I still find the witnesses responsible for the loss of
Genovese s life. According to Milgram and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

okay for them to not call the police for help. They presented some of the reasons like the city life,
society norms, law, and the situational pressure. They also explained them in favor of the witnesses.
First of all, they talked about the personal relationships that are inferior in the city. People in the city
keep distance between themselves because they want to be free (902). This was considered a big
reason for the witnesses to not call the police or help her as they didn t know Genovese or wasn t close
to her. Moreover, Milgram and Hollander presented society rules as an another explanation for the
witnesses to not help Genovese. The witnesses were following the society rules by not taking the law
into their own hands (904). They

Rape Is A Serious Problem
Only rapists know when they will strike their prey with sexual assault. The victims, both men and
women, never see themselves in such a situation. But, what if both the victim and rapist are equally to
blame in that situation? What if women could be able to and should do everything they can to prevent
being raped? Is it possible that victims are not doing everything they can to prevent rape or defend
themselves when they are being violated? The argument of to whom the fault actually belongs to has
been a long occurring ordeal that perhaps may never be resolved. Rape is a serious problem, which is
why it is one of the most highly debated topics in today s society and media. Many actors and
actresses have spoken out against rape, some are even victims. There has also been a growing amount
of concern towards women expressed by many anonymous Twitter accounts. Those accounts have
helped make teenagers and other social network users more aware of rape culture.
According to the Marshall University Women s Center, rape culture is an environment in which rape is
prevalent and in which sexual violence against women is normalized and excused in the media and
popular culture ( Women s Center marshall.edu page 1). Women believe that rape culture is
emphasized through arrogant language, women being objectified by men, the overuse of television
sexual violence, and teaching the victims not to be raped instead of teaching the rapist not to rape.

The Impact Of Smart Technology On Technology
The Impact of Smart Technology Technology has improved so much over the last couple decades. One
of the best and biggest technological advancements for this decade is the creation of Smart
Technology. What is Smart Technology? By definition SMART is actually an acronym which stands
for Self Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology. It is used to protect and prevent errors in hard
drives. The SMART technology basically monitors and analyzes hard drives, then checks the health of
your hard drive and lets you know if there are any problems. The main purpose of SMART is to keep
your hard drive running smoothly and prevent it from crashing. (Christensson 2006). Smart
Technology is changing the way people around the world work, live, play, study, pay bills, shop and
communicate. The effects of technology is becoming younger which is the reason Smart Technology
has such a huge impact on the younger generations. Techno giants are aiming new technology at
younger generations opposed to others, like mid aged to elderly people who sometime struggle with
technology functionality. Although, some elderly may not care or be concerned about modern
technology they may not escape it, it is everywhere. Marshall Mcluhan warned, that technology will

Allowing himself to be pulled into this world says a lot about the author s character: it is almost as if
he is vulnerable, and this vulnerability in some cases can be seen as a weakness. However, this
vulnerable act allowed him to find himself and strengthen his previous beliefs and attitude. According
to Aristotle, authors have an ethical obligation to have a strong ethos: this entails authors to have
intelligence, rectitude, and goodwill, and Covington expresses this throughout his entire memoir. Even
though, at the beginning he does not understand their behavior, and after he is embarrassed and
virtually kicked out of the society, he is able to write the truth about the handlers with the utmost
respect. Yes, he exposes many aspects of the handlers lives, but he does so in a respectful and
journalistic manner: it is clear that the information he divulges is essential to the reader understanding
the true meaning of his argument. The author does not purposely try to portray these people in the best
light possible, but rather the most ingenuous way. He demonstrates his goodwill by remaining
impartial during most of the memoir: occasionally he allows his emotions to effect his depiction of the
characters; however, this is almost impossible to achieve, because he interacted with these people and
was reacting to certain situations.
Covington writes this memoir for many reasons: he writes in order publicize this exclusive

The World Economic Scenario Of Brazil
A lot has changed in the world economic scenario over the past 25 years. World trade has increased
from $8.7 trillion in 1990 to over $46 trillion in 2014 (Global Economic Prospects 2016: 219). These
numbers reflect a growth in the trade of goods and services amongst different nations, which came as
a result of globalization. With that being said, an economic interdependence has been formed.
Countries that have been actively participating in this phenomenon by joining trade agreements,
eliminating tariffs, and facilitating commerce have highly benefited from this transformation. On the
other hand, nations that have isolated themselves from these opportunities through protectionist
policies, have been negatively impacted. Members involved in these trading blocs gain a competitive
edge over those who opted to stay out. Brazil serves as a good example of the negative effects that
adapting a protectionist policy may have on a nation s economy. The country has access to a vast
amount of primary resources, including soy beans, oil, sugar cane, iron ore, coffee, and orange juice.
Nonetheless, its exports account for a mere 11.2% of its GDP, in comparison to the world average,
which in 2015, amounted for a total of 29.3% (World Bank Group, 2016). One of the main reasons for
the disparity between these numbers is given by the lack of free trade in the government s foreign

Reasons Why the United States Failed in the Vietnam War
President Johnson ordered revenge air strikes against the patrol boat s bases. After that, Congress had
approved the resolution eighty eight to two and Johnson had been granted the powers to prosecute the
war in Vietnam. Senator Wayne Morse or Oregon voted against it, reminding McNamara that the
North Vietnamese patrol boat attacks had been provoked by U.S. presence in Tonkin Bay (Armstrong
52). It was apparent that the past of American policy in South Vietnam seemed to be leading America
into war. The United States had affiliated themselves with a policy that was a form of American
colonialism, of saving U.S. interests at the cost of the Vietnamese people. The Tonkin Resolution was
evidence. Prior to the war President Franklin D. Roosevelt had stated that American policy should be
changed, but no steps were taken to change it. In 1954, the U.S. refused to sign the Geneva Accord, so
from then on America claimed that North Vietnam was violating the accord by sending help to the
rebels against the South Vietnamese Government. But we decided not to go to the countries that
signed the agreement and who were responsible for its enforcement. But, instead we violated by
joining in the fighting. Every American person or item that was sent to South Vietnam was a violation.
In January 1965, five months after the Gulf of Tonkin incident, West Point graduate Richard Steinke
refused to join a unit operating in Vietnam (Schutts). Many knew that the decision to join the war was

Nurses Care Of Patients With Multiple Problems And Needs
Registered nurses take care of patients with multiple problems and needs. Being able to establish
priorities by figuring out which needs take superiority over other needs is a crucial role in our career.
Prioritizing is the important to time management. It allows the registered nurse to focus on tasks that
require more of your attention, energy, and time. Some things may be left undone, but they can be
passed down to the oncoming shift, and some things can be delegated to other team members. Nursing
is a 24 hour job. Prioritizing patients should be done according to Maslow hierarchy of needs, ABCs,

levels of human needs. There are five levels of needs: physiological needs these are basic needs; they
include both needs necessary for survival and needs that are basic, but not mandatory for survival.
Safety needs the things we need to give us a sense of security; your property, your well being, and
your family all provide you with your safety needs. Love/Belonging needs your need to feel like you

Comparing the Atkins and South Beach Diets Essay
Comparing the Operations of the Atkins and South Beach Diets
In today s society, an ongoing trend of diets have played a major impact in the nutritional and dieting
markets such as the Atkins and South Beach. Both diets may be considered similar since they were
both designed and intended for dieters to produce similar results of dramatic rapid weight loss within
stages. Though the end result may be similar, the method of achieving the weight loss differs in many
aspects. Both the Atkins and South Beach diets, varies in the choice of foods consumed by the dieter
and the step by step process on how the diet operates. In the Atkins diet, it involves eating foods which
are high in protein and fat, while limiting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The South Beach differs with the Atkins in that it allows carbohydrates, especially those high in fiber
like multigrain bread and wild rice. The South Beach diet relies on the glycemic index or GI to
determine good carbohydrates from bad carbohydrates. The glycemic index is a system that ranks
foods by how they affect your levels of blood sugar and insulin. Low GI foods that are less than 55
produce a gradual rise in blood sugar that s easy on the body. Foods between 55 and 70 are
intermediate GI foods. Foods with high GI that is more than 70 would make blood sugar as well as
insulin levels spike fast, which is a major health risk. The glycemic index is important since keeping
insulin levels low is the central principle behind all low carbohydrate diets. So under South Beach,
bad carbohydrates with a high glycemic index like refined flour products, potatoes, pasta, and white
rice are forbidden, while good carbohydrates with a low glycemic index like whole wheat products
and wild rice are permitted. The limitations and choices of carbohydrates, in both the Atkins and the
South Beach, may be one of the main differences, but they also differ in the way the diets are executed
in a step by step process. In the Atkins diet, it requires several stages in order to achieve the intended
goal weight reduction. There are four phases within the diet. The first phase is known as the induction
phase, where dieters are urged to be on a low carbohydrate and a

Why Is Napoleonic Code So Important To The French Revolution
The nineteenth century was one of the most significant era through the human history. Many new
efficient technologies got developed by those outstanding people. Besides those fancy technologies,
new rules and laws got established as well. Although the new rules were nothing but some words on a
document for people to read and follow, but those new acts were as important as the technologies. It
pushed our civilizations forward in a speed of life, it fixed the old problems we used to have. Today I

Sandy Hook Massacre Sociological Perspective
The Sandy Hook massacre also, described as one of the deadliest shooting in all U.S history. 20
children and 6 adults were killed on December of 2012 in Newtown, Connecticut. (Connecticut) This
massacre was the earliest memory I could recall on gun violence, not just learning about it but also
watching it unfold and be told on news outlets all over television and social media. The Sandy Hook
massacre shaped my generation by creating a more debatable topic on gun control in the United
States. Through the Sociological point of view, gun violence can be understood by the functionalism,
conflict, and symbolic theoretical approach. While trying to understand such event with such theories,
we begin to unfold how society has shifted and changed over time, how we as a society view gun
violence today and what we have done to prevent such act to happen again. When looking at the
functionalist point of view, which states that everything serves as a particular capacity in our general
public and the capacities should be comprehended. (Ferrante, 2015) Which relates to the gun control
that one needs to view how strict gun policy laws and free weapon control laws will influence society.
The U.S. would be viewed as a nation that has free weapon control laws. Most U.S citizen s can go to

Essay on Presentation of Self Claim
Erving Goffman s Presentation of Self Claim Erving Goffman was a sociologist who studied and
analyzed social interaction. He took special interest in explaining how people live their lives as if they
were actors performing on stage. He looked at the world as if he were a director seeing what goes on
in everyday life. He called this observation of the world dramaturgical analysis. He applied terms to
this explanation, which include the concepts of status and role. He referred the part in a play as the
status, and then the script is the role. His claim of presentation of self was used to describe a person s
efforts to create specific impressions in the minds of others. Goffman thought that when any
individual is around others, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of our performances are different though. They can also vary because every place we are can
change how we perform . Body language is a critical aspect in our daily performances. Sometime
body gestures can tell people things about you that you may not have want them to know, such as the
mood you are in that day. If you lied to someone they may be able to tell because of the body image of
nervousness you possess because of lying. Nonverbal communication can often provide those around
you with enough information to catch you in a lie. Another element in presentation depends on gender
too. For example, Goffman implied that men need more space than women do. Certain facial
expressions affect presentation as well, such as eye contact and smiling. Presentation also brings about
the elements of embarrassment, idealization, and tact. In modern day life, a prime example of
presentation of self can be seen through a professor teaching a class. The students in this case are the
audience and the professor of course is the actor on stage, or in front of the classroom. Students can
often times be a very intimidating audience. The professor must also present his or her self in the
proper manner. Negative body gestures can cause the students to not pay attention. Idealization plays a
huge role in the professor s presentation as well. They go into the classroom with certain motives for
teaching others. Sometimes embarrassment plays a role too. Because

NOT WAVING BUT DROWNING
BY STEVIE SMITH
The poem Not Waving But Drowning , by Stevie Smith, is a poem in which there is a drowning man
at sea. In this poem, the poet is talking about the difficulty of communication and the fundamental
isolation of the individual in modern society. The title of the poem gives us an immediate indication
that the poem will tackle a serious matter. The poem contains three voices; the drowning man, the
observers and the people on the beach. It can be interpreted on both a literal and metaphorical level of
meaning.

The pause after gave way , followed by the last line They said , indicates that other interpretations are
possible which really reflects what happened: that the man found life as too lonely or difficult and
gave up.
The observers completely misinterpret the situation. The people on the beach are unable to discern the
man s moments of joy from his moments of despair. We can interpret the phrase It must have been too
cold for him his heart gave way , in both a literal and figurative way. Literally, the observers could be
saying that the man has had a heart attack as a result of the cold temperature of the water; figuratively,
we might say that this unknown man lacked the warmth of human relationships. His life was empty of
love and warm feelings which has caused him to give up on life.
The third and final stanza shows us how desperate the man s situation has been, both past and present.
The repetition of no stresses this fact by underlining how he has always felt cold, unloved,
unappreciated and misunderstood. In fact he says I was much too far out all my life . The water in
which he drowns, symbolizes a barrier which separates him from the rest of society, such as his
inability to make friends. It could also symbolize his life, a life in which he could not cope due to the
various difficulties he was experiencing.
The poem s apparent simplicity concerns serious issues which preoccupied the poet, Stevie

What Is The Mood Of Louisa May Alcott Little Women
Louisa May Alcott is a prominent American Author that captured the hearts of many people with her
heart wrenching stories about family. In her most famous story, Little Women, one can see the effects
of family on one s feelings. It shows that even in the midst of misfortune, one often looks onto their
family for emotional support. Sometimes, that time of misfortune can derive from family troubles in
its own. Though not always, the people closest to a person easily have the ability to influence his or
her s feeling or mood, therefore it is clear that one s family has a great affect on a person s happiness.
Even when times are rough, the thought of spending time with a loved one can brighten one s mood.
The passage states, Somehow the sight of the old shoes had a good effect upon the girls, for Mother
was coming ,and everyone brightened to welcome her. In the excerpt, the sisters were discussing how
they were saddened at the fact that they wouldn t receive any presents for Christmas. However, just

The character Nobody, is perhaps the most highly intelligible representation of a native American of
any western films. Nobody was rejected by his own native culture and adopting the name given to him
which means He who talks too much says nothing summing up the false capitalistic activity of the
Western culture (Petković 2011, p 10). Nobody s decision to rename himself demonstrates that he is
cognizant that he is not identical with his socially assigned identity. (J, McMahon). Although he

Discrimination And Discrimination Essay
It is a well known fact that in today s society there are large quantities of people from all age
demographics and all areas of the world that struggle with at least one mental illness. The unfortunate
part of this fact is that there is also a large amount of stigma surrounding mental illnesses which
causes mental illness patients to feel alone and unable seek needed help. Most of this stigma is due to
a lack of education and understanding of mental illnesses. This ignorance is what creates the majority
of negative connotations related to mental illnesses. But what would happen if our society had the
opportunity to become more educated about mental illnesses? It is important to educate people about
mental illness stigma in order to prevent discrimination and prejudice.
A study used a total of 303 adolescents that all completed a revised version of an Attribution
Questionnaire that described four different patients: a peer with a mental illness, a peer with a mental
illness caused by a brain tumor, a peer with an alcohol abuse problem, and a peer with leukemia. The
adolescents discriminated among conditions. Important variables that lead to discrimination were
blame and dangerousness. Adolescents who believed that mental illness patients are responsible for
their own illnesses believed that those patients are dangerous. This caused the adolescents to
discriminate more towards these patients. However, the adolescents did not feel the same way toward
alcohol abuse patients.

reduced inventories, increasing sale prices and insufficient building and construction to meet demand.
But that s not the entire story. Outside primary metropolitan areas, when a large employer closes down

Take The Wicker Man Analysis
Sometimes it s hard to define a particular horror movie s genre, but in an attempt to sort through the
confusion, I m going to provide an explanation of both the basic genres in horror, of which there are
about 4 with closely related branches in their family tree. Often horror movies tend to fuse different
film genre elements together to create a horrific masterpiece, or just something awful to watch that
ends in disaster. I m not talking about the movie plot itself, but those failed attempts at crafting
masterful cinema. Take the Wicker Man, for instance. This film includes elements of psychological
horror, fantasy, macabre, thriller, and even exploitation horror.
Basic Horror Genres

Exploitation Horror Exploitation horror films generally exhibit blood, guts, and gore for the sake of

included in this genre, often along with cannibal (We Are What We Are), sexual deviancy (A Serbian
Film), murderous cult (Bless the Child), and backwoods psycho motifs (House of 1,000 Corpses the
Devils Reject) running through them.
Urban Legends Often urban legends come in the form of a horror anthology, which is a set of stories
that can be related on unrelated that are typically short and told by a person in a position of wisdom,
such as Jud Crandall in Pet Cemetary, who is a very elderly, local man who provides information that

The Gangster Genre of Films Essays

a stylized way that all latter gangster films have conformed to this genre but also evolved it as films

Directed by Francis Ford Coppola The Godfather re invented the gangster genre elevating it to a
Hollywood status and making it commercially profitable. It looks into the life of the Corleone family

Two other gangster directors are Quentin Tarantino, famous for many films but Pulp Fiction stands

writers have been influenced by The Godfather , its stereotypes, plots and gangster families, and
although both writers have both influenced the genre in their separate ways, neither of them have

group or individual gains too much control. The three branches consists on the following Legislative,
Executive, and Judicial. Legislative branch rejects or confirms presidential appointments, and also has
the authority to declare war. The power of the Executive branch is to carry out and enforce laws. It
includes the president, the vice president, the cabinet, independent agencies, executive departments,
commissions, committees, and other boards. The last branch that is the Judicial branch interprets the
meaning of laws, decides if laws violate the constitution, and applies laws to individual cases. Article I
of the United States Constitution created and empowered our legislative branch of government. The

Civil War Essay
The United States Civil War: A Time of Change and Equality for All
The United States Civil War, which lasted from 1861 to 1865, represented a time of major change
around the world. This civil war that absorbed our nation during the mid 1860s not only fought for the
rights of African Americans in the United States but for the rights and respects of African Americans
around the globe. These times of fighting altered the lives of women living in a strongly patriarchal
society by giving females a chance to live independently and successfully while their husbands were
at war. American males came back from battle to find a stronger, liberated nation that was now
influenced by voices in society that were muted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be said that the roots of the feminist movement began in 1861 with the start of this brutal war.
Quoting Dr. William Carrigan, Professor of History at Rowan University, When men were away
fighting in the Civil War, women managed the farms and took on the duties that their husbands once
had. Women became individuals during the war (Carrigan, personal interview). Women did change
their lives dramatically from 1861 to 1865, assuming many chores and responsibilities that many
thought females could not handle (Carrigan, personal interview). The wives of the plantation owners
assumed many responsibilities and single
Clarkson 3 handedly ran the South for four long years. Douglas Grunn, member of the 33rd New
Jersey Volunteer Infantry Reenactment Group, said in a recent interview that women in the North also
played a key role in the results of the Civil War.
Many women would sew flags, make bullets, act as field nurses, and administer bandages to aid their
husbands and soldiers (Grunn, personal interview). Everyday field nurses would impact the war by
saving the lives of soldiers who needed serious and quick medical care. The U.S. Civil War would
have resulted differently if it weren t for the many females who decided to put their efforts into the
war.
Even though it was considered wrong and illegal, over 400 women fought during the Civil War

Examples Of Sibling Rivalry In East Of Eden By John Steinbeck
East of Eden, a novel written by John Steinbeck, is set in Salinas, California, a place Steinbeck calls
home. Steinbeck believes East of Eden to be his most sacred piece of work. Throughout the novel,
Steinbeck explores the universal themes that all humans experience, such as: lust, family, sin, and free
will. The novel foreshadows the roles that the characters play as they reenact the biblical story of Cain
and Abel. Several characters through the course of Steinbeck s novel, East of Eden, demonstrates a
lack of self ability and corruption of the soul. In East of Eden, John Steinbeck portrays stories and
concepts of the Bible through good versus evil, sibling rivalry, and the importance of truth through the
external and internal conflicts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel, the characters withhold the truth from themselves and everyone else. Neither knows that
Kate is alive until Aron falls in love with Abra Hamilton, Sam s daughter. Abra eventually reveals this
information to Aron, who now realizes that his father has not been forthright with him. (Shuman).
Once they start telling the truth, they feel as if their lives start to align. Adam and Charles father,
Cyrus, lies about his Civil War reputation to earn an important job and a massive fortune. Charles
withholds the truth about Cathy s seduction towards him on her and Adam s wedding night. Lee lies to
himself about wanting to leave the Trask family and open a bookstore. Cal keeps his work with Will
Hamilton a secret from his father. Adam and Lee keep the truth about Cathy from Cal and Aron.
Likewise, Cal fails to inform his father and Lee that he knows that his mother is alive and a well
known brothel owner. Adam lies to himself about Cathy and excuses her psychotic behavior.
However, the truth sets Adam and Cal free. Adam finally faces the truth about Cathy. Once he tells her
the truth, he relaxes and feels free. Also, Cal faces up to the fact that telling Aron the truth might have
resulted in his death. Cal takes responsibility for his actions, and realizes that he has the ability to
make good choices in the future. Lee leaves and goes to open up his bookstore, but realizes the truth.

Anthony Ng Architects Limited
ANTHONY NG ARCHITECTS LIMITED: building towards a paperless future 2011 BSM920 Topics
in Advanced Strategy Group D 8/6/2011 1. Introduction Since the 1970s, the architectural industry in
Hong Kong enjoyed a brilliant growth as a result of real estate and stock market speculation. In 1996,
the industry was very profit oriented and time conscious, and heavy bureaucracy was one of the main
characteristics of the market. The role of the government and others institutions such as the HKIA
(Hong Kong Institute of Architects) are essential in the Hong Kong architectural industry. Anthony Ng
is an architect from Hong Kong who started his own architectural practice in 1991 in Wan Chai.

The HKIA is an association which is using rewards and penalties to coerce architects into compliance
with the standards they came up with = gt; COERCIVE REGULATION On the other side the
government is a national institution which encourage compliance as it is taken for granted as the way
things are done (Oliver 1991, Shenkar 2002) = gt; cognitive internalization To respond to these
institutional pressures, Anthony Ng decides to use co option strategies to cope with government
pressures. Learning to deal with the Building department was an important aspect of the architectural
industry, as it would help avoiding important delays and loss of contracts. Another aspect of the co
option strategies use by Anthony Ng was to adopt corporate social responsibility which is considered
as a new institutional logic (Lee, 2008). In addition to standards building and attractive designs,
Anthony Ng decided to work on eco friendly projects, which enabled the firm to won the highest
honour from the HKIA. 3. Chaos The implementation of a paperless system was a change that would
take place in a complex environment. When starting to use this new system Anthony Ng did not know
the real outcome of this change, because there could have been many different effects that were
largely unknown in advance. When the staff started using the paperless system, the organization could
not assure that

Graduation Speech At Virginia Commonwealth University
As a member of Virginia Commonwealth University s (VCU) Leaders Engaging in Advance
Discoveries (LEAD), were are expected to complete eighty hours of service over the course of two
academic school years. Each semester VCU LEAD students are required to complete twenty hours of
service, ten community engagement hours and ten leadership hours. I believe that having a
requirement of participation hours pushes students to get involved on VCU s campus and the greater
Richmond area, introduces time management, as well as influences them to reflect on their new found
experiences. During this fall semester, I have had the privilege of volunteering with the local youth of
Richmond. In one encounter, I spent time creating a safe environment for kids to enjoy the Halloween
festivities. Throughout the Living Learning Program (LLP) week in October, I decided to volunteer
my services to the ASPiRE LLP. On October 28th, 2016 from three thirty till five thirty I participated
in the Halloween Party. Before all the children arrived from Caver Elementary, I helped other ASPiRE
students decorate the hallways with cobwebs, created obstacles courses for relay races, as well as
helped to hang festive banners and signs. Once the kids came to the West Grace South Residence
Center, I spent most of my time at the face painting station. Since most of the students came straight
from school, a lot of them did not have Halloween costumes. I really enjoyed making the kids into

Relationship Between Indentured Servants And Slaves
The typical colonial planter s views were inconsistent due to the exploited non white races within the
vast majority of indentured servants and the economic manipulation of the British government.
Indentured servants and slaves were overworked by their masters because exploitive colonial planters
and plantation owners pushed them to the degree that they eventually died at a very early. When
indentured non white servants migrated to Virginia in the seventeenth century, they were immediately
put to work because masters sought to gain wealth as soon as possible and lead forty percent of these
servants to die before their four year term was finished (Jovanovich, 1984). Inhumane exploitation

Classification System ( 17 ) Essay
All patients were diagnosed with a stage 2, 3, or 4 idiopathic MH according to the Gass classification
system(17) and underwent a comprehensive ophthalmologic examination before and 1, 3, and 6
months postoperatively, including measurement of the best corrected VA (BCVA), binocular indirect
ophthalmoscopy, and non contact lens slit lamp biomicroscopy. The SD OCT examination also was
performed in all patients on the same day as the clinical examination. Standard 3 port pars plana
vitrectomy for MH repair consisted of a core vitrectomy with intravitreal injection of triamcinolone
acetonide to visualize the vitreous gel, surgical creation of a posterior vitreous detachment if it had not
yet occurred, ILM peeling using Briliant blue G (BBG), and fluid gas exchange followed by flushing
with a mixed non expansile concentration of 20% sulfur hexafluoride. Patients were instructed to
remain facedown for 2 to 7 days postoperatively. Anatomic success was defined as the presence of a
flat or closed MH 1 month postoperatively confirmed by biomicroscopy.(18) All patients provided
written informed consent after they received a detailed explanation of the surgical procedure and SD
OCT follow up examinations. Our retina specialist (SB) performed the surgeries. One of two
experienced examiners performed the VA examinations, and experienced technicians conducted the
SD OCT examinations. The study adhered to the tenets of the Declaration of Helsinki and was

  • 2. Comparison Of Internal And External Conflicts And Their... The comparison of internal and external conflicts and their affects on lives. Essay? HOOK: The story Blue Winds Dancing by Thomas S. Whitecloud demonstrates the experience of a native man transitioning to his life into a white society. It exhibits the internal and external struggles in the native s life that he encounters throughout his life. However, the native is an outcast and has a longing to go back to his native reserve. In comparison, Angel Levine by Bernard Malamud describes the life of a Jewish man, named Manischevitz, who lost everything: his children, his business, and his wife because of her fatal illness. He reaches out to God, but there is no response which also leads him to lose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Manischevitz is distraught when a Black Angel appears to help, and he realises that all hope is lost. This negatively affects Mr. Manischevitz because he seeks affirmation from God, although, he does not believe in the black angel s powers. This leads Manischevitz down a spiral where he smote to the naked bones, cursing himself for having believed in God to help him in his time of need. On the other hand, in Blue Winds Dancing, the native also undergoes an internal conflict; the native feels alone and lost in the White world. He feels like an outsider with no place in the white world that he desperately wants to accept him. The native compares himself to a hobo because they both are outsiders because they cherish different things from a typical white man. Additionally, the native in the story does not have a name to symbolize that his experience is very similar to many other natives who want to be apart of the white world. Overall, the native is having an Identity crisis because he does not know whether to acculturate and become like every other white man or go back to the blanket because it is familiar to him. He longs for home because he does not agree with the white man s customs of getting a hill and wanting a mountain . He wants to return back home where people can be free and the native can truly be himself. These internal conflicts are similar because both protagonists encounter identity crises which cause them to seek affirmation in their faith ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analyse Character Traits There are a few traits listed that I admire greatly among others, and would like to think that I hold myself or am working on perfecting those traits within my being. Three main ones would be Openness, Responsibility, and Empathy. People who are open minded tend to be the ones that are responsible for our ever so evolving world, standards, morals, ethics, society, and way of life as it is. This to me automatically makes them important and special, as the world and society would not be so advanced as we are today without these type of people. I feel these individuals are not so quick to speak, judge, and hold down others. If Christopher Columbus was not so exploratory due to his open minded thinking, then perhaps we would live in a world that continued to think the earth was simply flat. I personally feel that nothing is really so simple in this life, therefore, the same way of thinking, acting, reacting, fitting, living, preserving, remedying and so forth....all of this could not ... When I come across people such as this, it is like taking a breath of fresh air after being under water for so long; it is not so common to meet someone like this...because they preserve honesty, not just towards others, but within themselves. • 4. Qualitative Strategies I will explain how quantitative and qualitative strategies and methods/procedures are similar and different. In qualitative strategies, there is a focus on data collection, analysis and writing (p. 176). In qualitative strategies usually may fall in line with survey designs and experiments. The strategies followed the same general format such as purpose, data collection, data analysis and conclusion. The differences between the two for methods and procedures is the following: for quantitative methods they tend to be used in a pretest and posttest control group designs. This is done by following six steps which include administering measures of the dependent variable, assign the participants to pairs, randomly assign members to the control group or experimental group, expose the experimental group, administer measures of dependent variables and finally the performance. Some additional research questions they came up with when reviewing their theoretical framework was what were the culturally valued personal and social competencies?? What were the social stressors? When administrating a network, you have to ensure critical services have as close to 100% uptime, because if they are down, your users are going to hassle you all the time and that can be quite annoying with some users. When maintaining a network, you also have a number of other tasks to perform every day. You can very rarely just add a major application or a network service without any issues. Your network will need to support it. Both physically and virtually; internally and externally Can the application be supported Are their people who know how to use the application? What risks will it introduce? The main character is Thomas Fowler, an English Reporter stationed in Vietnam. No one wants to sweat more than they have to. I say have to because sweating is a part of life. Many creatures get hot, but the way they stay cool and regulate their temperature varies. In the science article How Animals Keep Their Cool by Johanna Mayer, she explains how animals have evolved to beat the heat . Humans are able to regulate their body temperature by sweating. The sweat from a cat paw tells them to grip the floor or couch to avoid sliding across the floor or falling off the couch. The article does note that horses primary cooling mechanism is panting, like our four legged house pets, yet it is the horse s snout that helps with the process. Lizards also have a unique way to stay cool, which can result in moving between warmer and cooler areas or standing still, with its mouth opening. Lizards tend to open their mouths to allow evaporation to occur. Lizards do not have an internal mechanism to adjust their body temperature, and must make adjustment to their behavior to cool off. Butterflies have a similar cool off method compared to lizards because they move into shady areas. Butterflies can cool themselves while flying too. Most humans can tolerate being in the heat for long periods of time because we can constantly sweat to cool ourselves off. This is why there are so many different types of deodorant companies and styles. Humans have a specific kind of sweat gland called eccrine glands that allows us to cool off. First of all, they talked about the personal relationships that are inferior in the city. People in the city keep distance between themselves because they want to be free (902). But, what if both the victim and rapist are equally to blame in that situation? What if women could be able to and should do everything they can to prevent being raped? Is it possible that victims are not doing everything they can to prevent rape or defend themselves when they are being violated? The argument of to whom the fault actually belongs to has been a long occurring ordeal that perhaps may never be resolved. Rape is a serious problem, which is why it is one of the most highly debated topics in today s society and media. Many actors and actresses have spoken out against rape, some are even victims. There has also been a growing amount of concern towards women expressed by many anonymous Twitter accounts. Those accounts have helped make teenagers and other social network users more aware of rape culture. According to the Marshall University Women s Center, rape culture is an environment in which rape is prevalent and in which sexual violence against women is normalized and excused in the media and popular culture ( Women s Center marshall.edu page 1). • 16. The Impact Of Smart Technology On Technology The Impact of Smart Technology Technology has improved so much over the last couple decades. One of the best and biggest technological advancements for this decade is the creation of Smart Technology. What is Smart Technology? By definition SMART is actually an acronym which stands for Self Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology. It is used to protect and prevent errors in hard drives. The SMART technology basically monitors and analyzes hard drives, then checks the health of your hard drive and lets you know if there are any problems. The main purpose of SMART is to keep your hard drive running smoothly and prevent it from crashing. (Christensson 2006). Smart Technology is changing the way people around the world work, live, play, study, pay bills, shop and communicate. The effects of technology is becoming younger which is the reason Smart Technology has such a huge impact on the younger generations. Techno giants are aiming new technology at younger generations opposed to others, like mid aged to elderly people who sometime struggle with technology functionality. World trade has increased from $8.7 trillion in 1990 to over $46 trillion in 2014 (Global Economic Prospects 2016: 219). These numbers reflect a growth in the trade of goods and services amongst different nations, which came as a result of globalization. With that being said, an economic interdependence has been formed. Countries that have been actively participating in this phenomenon by joining trade agreements, eliminating tariffs, and facilitating commerce have highly benefited from this transformation. On the other hand, nations that have isolated themselves from these opportunities through protectionist policies, have been negatively impacted. Members involved in these trading blocs gain a competitive edge over those who opted to stay out. Brazil serves as a good example of the negative effects that adapting a protectionist policy may have on a nation s economy. The country has access to a vast amount of primary resources, including soy beans, oil, sugar cane, iron ore, coffee, and orange juice. Nonetheless, its exports account for a mere 11.2% of its GDP, in comparison to the world average, which in 2015, amounted for a total of 29.3% (World Bank Group, 2016). • 22. Reasons Why the United States Failed in the Vietnam War President Johnson ordered revenge air strikes against the patrol boat s bases. After that, Congress had approved the resolution eighty eight to two and Johnson had been granted the powers to prosecute the war in Vietnam. Senator Wayne Morse or Oregon voted against it, reminding McNamara that the North Vietnamese patrol boat attacks had been provoked by U.S. presence in Tonkin Bay (Armstrong 52). It was apparent that the past of American policy in South Vietnam seemed to be leading America into war. The United States had affiliated themselves with a policy that was a form of American colonialism, of saving U.S. interests at the cost of the Vietnamese people. The Tonkin Resolution was evidence. Prior to the war President Franklin D. Roosevelt had stated that American policy should be changed, but no steps were taken to change it. In 1954, the U.S. refused to sign the Geneva Accord, so from then on America claimed that North Vietnam was violating the accord by sending help to the rebels against the South Vietnamese Government. But we decided not to go to the countries that signed the agreement and who were responsible for its enforcement. But, instead we violated by joining in the fighting. Every American person or item that was sent to South Vietnam was a violation. • 23. Nurses Care Of Patients With Multiple Problems And Needs Registered nurses take care of patients with multiple problems and needs. Being able to establish priorities by figuring out which needs take superiority over other needs is a crucial role in our career. Prioritizing is the important to time management. It allows the registered nurse to focus on tasks that require more of your attention, energy, and time. Some things may be left undone, but they can be passed down to the oncoming shift, and some things can be delegated to other team members. Nursing is a 24 hour job. Prioritizing patients should be done according to Maslow hierarchy of needs, ABCs, stable versus unstable patients or the nursing process. Maslow hierarchy of needs identifies different levels of human needs. There are five levels of needs: physiological needs these are basic needs; they include both needs necessary for survival and needs that are basic, but not mandatory for survival. Safety needs the things we need to give us a sense of security; your property, your well being, and your family all provide you with your safety needs. Love/Belonging needs your need to feel like you fit in. Esteem needs the things that add to your ego. Self actualization the highest level of the hierarchy; insight that is complete when you reach your full prospective and your ability to distinguish your full prospective. Comparing the Atkins and South Beach Diets Essay Comparing the Operations of the Atkins and South Beach Diets In today s society, an ongoing trend of diets have played a major impact in the nutritional and dieting markets such as the Atkins and South Beach. Both diets may be considered similar since they were both designed and intended for dieters to produce similar results of dramatic rapid weight loss within stages. Though the end result may be similar, the method of achieving the weight loss differs in many aspects. Both the Atkins and South Beach diets, varies in the choice of foods consumed by the dieter and the step by step process on how the diet operates. The South Beach differs with the Atkins in that it allows carbohydrates, especially those high in fiber like multigrain bread and wild rice. The South Beach diet relies on the glycemic index or GI to determine good carbohydrates from bad carbohydrates. The glycemic index is a system that ranks foods by how they affect your levels of blood sugar and insulin. Low GI foods that are less than 55 produce a gradual rise in blood sugar that s easy on the body. Foods between 55 and 70 are intermediate GI foods. Foods with high GI that is more than 70 would make blood sugar as well as insulin levels spike fast, which is a major health risk. The glycemic index is important since keeping insulin levels low is the central principle behind all low carbohydrate diets. So under South Beach, bad carbohydrates with a high glycemic index like refined flour products, potatoes, pasta, and white rice are forbidden, while good carbohydrates with a low glycemic index like whole wheat products and wild rice are permitted. The limitations and choices of carbohydrates, in both the Atkins and the South Beach, may be one of the main differences, but they also differ in the way the diets are executed in a step by step process. In the Atkins diet, it requires several stages in order to achieve the intended goal weight reduction. There are four phases within the diet. The first phase is known as the induction phase, where dieters are urged to be on a low carbohydrate and a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Connecticut) This massacre was the earliest memory I could recall on gun violence, not just learning about it but also watching it unfold and be told on news outlets all over television and social media. The Sandy Hook massacre shaped my generation by creating a more debatable topic on gun control in the United States. Through the Sociological point of view, gun violence can be understood by the functionalism, conflict, and symbolic theoretical approach. While trying to understand such event with such theories, we begin to unfold how society has shifted and changed over time, how we as a society view gun violence today and what we have done to prevent such act to happen again. • 27. Essay on Presentation of Self Claim Erving Goffman s Presentation of Self Claim Erving Goffman was a sociologist who studied and analyzed social interaction. He took special interest in explaining how people live their lives as if they were actors performing on stage. He looked at the world as if he were a director seeing what goes on in everyday life. He called this observation of the world dramaturgical analysis. He applied terms to this explanation, which include the concepts of status and role. He referred the part in a play as the status, and then the script is the role. Body language is a critical aspect in our daily performances. Sometime body gestures can tell people things about you that you may not have want them to know, such as the mood you are in that day. If you lied to someone they may be able to tell because of the body image of nervousness you possess because of lying. Nonverbal communication can often provide those around you with enough information to catch you in a lie. Another element in presentation depends on gender too. For example, Goffman implied that men need more space than women do. Certain facial expressions affect presentation as well, such as eye contact and smiling. Presentation also brings about the elements of embarrassment, idealization, and tact. In modern day life, a prime example of presentation of self can be seen through a professor teaching a class. The students in this case are the audience and the professor of course is the actor on stage, or in front of the classroom. Students can often times be a very intimidating audience. The professor must also present his or her self in the proper manner. Negative body gestures can cause the students to not pay attention. Idealization plays a huge role in the professor s presentation as well. They go into the classroom with certain motives for teaching others. Sometimes embarrassment plays a role too. Because ... In this poem, the poet is talking about the difficulty of communication and the fundamental isolation of the individual in modern society. The title of the poem gives us an immediate indication that the poem will tackle a serious matter. The poem contains three voices; the drowning man, the observers and the people on the beach. The pause after gave way , followed by the last line They said , indicates that other interpretations are possible which really reflects what happened: that the man found life as too lonely or difficult and gave up. The observers completely misinterpret the situation. The people on the beach are unable to discern the man s moments of joy from his moments of despair. We can interpret the phrase It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way , in both a literal and figurative way. Literally, the observers could be saying that the man has had a heart attack as a result of the cold temperature of the water; figuratively, we might say that this unknown man lacked the warmth of human relationships. His life was empty of love and warm feelings which has caused him to give up on life. The third and final stanza shows us how desperate the man s situation has been, both past and present. The repetition of no stresses this fact by underlining how he has always felt cold, unloved, unappreciated and misunderstood. In fact he says I was much too far out all my life . The water in which he drowns, symbolizes a barrier which separates him from the rest of society, such as his inability to make friends. It could also symbolize his life, a life in which he could not cope due to the various difficulties he was experiencing. • 49. Graduation Speech At Virginia Commonwealth University As a member of Virginia Commonwealth University s (VCU) Leaders Engaging in Advance Discoveries (LEAD), were are expected to complete eighty hours of service over the course of two academic school years. Each semester VCU LEAD students are required to complete twenty hours of service, ten community engagement hours and ten leadership hours. I believe that having a requirement of participation hours pushes students to get involved on VCU s campus and the greater Richmond area, introduces time management, as well as influences them to reflect on their new found experiences. During this fall semester, I have had the privilege of volunteering with the local youth of Richmond. In one encounter, I spent time creating a safe environment for kids to enjoy the Halloween festivities. Throughout the Living Learning Program (LLP) week in October, I decided to volunteer my services to the ASPiRE LLP. On October 28th, 2016 from three thirty till five thirty I participated in the Halloween Party. Before all the children arrived from Caver Elementary, I helped other ASPiRE students decorate the hallways with cobwebs, created obstacles courses for relay races, as well as helped to hang festive banners and signs. Once the kids came to the West Grace South Residence Center, I spent most of my time at the face painting station. Since most of the students came straight from school, a lot of them did not have Halloween costumes. I really enjoyed making the kids into zombies, mummies, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
