Intervertebral Disk Disease (IVDD) is one of the most common spinal cord disorders in small animals.
It is the degenerative process of the intervertebral disk which causes bulging or herniation into the

had severe IVDD with paralysis and no deep pain perception used to be surgery but recent studies

This study consisted of 50 small breed dogs such as pekingese, dachshunds, cocker spaniels and
maltese. The dogs were between the ages of one and six and weighed less than ten kilograms. Each
dog was evaluated for the neurologic dysfunction grades and functional neurologic scores. The
neurologic dysfunction grades varied from grade one to grade five. They split the dogs up into a group
of 26 who received conventional medicine and electroacupuncture and 24 dogs who received just
conventional medicine. All dogs were given prednisone and tramadol if needed. If the dogs had any
adverse effects they were given ranitidine for five to seven days. The owners were advised that they
