career goals would involve international travel of some sort. Although I m on the path of becoming a
doctor, main goal is to join the Doctors without Borders initiative and be actively apart of that for

Introduction: Acute corrosive poisonings are caused by ingestion of corrosive chemicals which are
most commonly used as household agents. Intoxications with these kind of agents produce numerous
and severe post corrosive complications of the upper gastrointestinal tract. On the other hand, our
experience showed that corrosive agents may also cause injuries of the respiratory system, which
makes the treatment very hard and additionally complicates the severe clinical condition of the patient.
Objective: The aim of the study is to show the incidence of respiratory complications in acute
corrosive poisonings, the need of various clinical investigations and also the treatment and final
outcome of these kind of poisoning.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed clinical records of 415 patients hospitalized and treated at the
University clinic for toxicology and urgent internal medicine, in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia, in
the period between 2007 and 2011. The protocol consisted of methods for analyzing the systemic
complications, with an accent on the post corrosive respiratory complications.
Results: From the total number of patients even 98 (23.61%) exhibited systemic complications, from
which 51 (52.04%) are respiratory complications. The majority of patients are female (n=40, 78.43%)
and the most common complication is pneumonia (n=47). The youngest patient in this study was 14
and the oldest was 87 years old.

How Technology Is Becoming More Widespread
These days technology is becoming more widespread. The question is are we still reading as
attentively and thoroughly as we used to due to these new portable ways of reading. The main issue
here is that our attention is divided between pixels and link as our brains respond differently to
onscreen text than to words on paper. There have been many published studies since 1980 s where
researchers from different fields like psychology, computer engineering and information science have
brought up such issues in more than one hundred published studies. Many of these studies done before
1992, always concluded that people read slowly, less accurately and less comprehensively on screens
than on paper. In recent studies, it shows that people still like to read from paper especially when they
want to read intensively. Although the e reading technology is gaining more popularity and becoming
more common, people s attitudes are changing. They read these books for facts and fun. In the US,
there is about 15 to 20 percent of all trade book sales (Jabr, 2013). People are known to be less
conducive to learning from computers and tablets as compared to paper. Reading has a physicality.
When we already have an e book we start to miss it. There was a study done in January 2013 by Anne
Mangen of the University of Stavanger in Norway. Her colleagues and she asked 72 10th grade

Food Insecurity Is A Fact For Millions Of Americans
Food insecurity is a fact for millions of American every day in our country. Children, adults, and the
elderly of all races, living in poverty or in lower middle class families, are at a higher risk of not
having enough to eat. The United States, in 2012, used roughly 40% or 915 million acres of all US
land as farmland (USDA 2014, 1), yet as a nation we cannot feed all of our people. The American
government subsidizes commodity crops, such as corn, wheat, and soy more than any other type of
crop in the United States, (This does not include the subsidies directly paid to the meat and dairy
industry, which is a whole other paper!). Government subsidies are less common for the production of
fresh fruits and vegetables. Government subsidies encourage farmers to grow commodity crops
instead of growing fruits and vegetables for consumers at competitive prices creating food insecurity.
The cheap production of commodity crops force families in the lower middle class and poverty to
choose a diet of processed food, which are less nutritious than fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole
grains causing many of the health problems that we see in the population today. According to the
USDA website in 2015, 12.7 percent, or 15.8 million of American households were food insecure. A
food insecure household is a household that had difficulty at some time during the year providing
