Scientific Method and Sir Karl Popper
Sir Karl Popper, challenging the status quo, inspiring generations to ponder on the meaning of science,
the methods to find truth, is one of the most influential philosophers of the 20th century. Of particular
importance to scientific methods of inquiry is the brawl between the development of theory and the
criteria for science. In Popper s own words, it is in this brawl that Popper decided to grapple with the
problem: When should a theory be ranked as scientific? or Is there a criterion for the scientific
character or status of a theory? (Popper 1957), p. 1).
Born just after the turn of the century in 1902 (my Great Aunt was 4 at the time), in London, England,
Popper began grappling with the brawl between when is theory scientific ... Show more content on

The use of empirical methods and inductive explanations is the root cause for Popper s revolt upon the
metaphysical reasoning used to explain social behavior (at this time). It is not that astrology is a
pseudo science; astrology is merely a residue of the subject of the investigation (Popper 1952).
Disciplines are means of administratively distinguishing the unified systems from which problems
may be taught. It is far more important to understanding falsification that We are not students of a
subject matter but students of problems (Popper 1952)p. 125).
Traditionally, scientists formed hypotheses to explain or rationalize some natural phoneme that they
have observed. Popper intends that a hypothesis must predict a phenomenon or behavior and not just
offer to explain it. I believe that there is not a classic of science, or of mathematics, or indeed a book
worth reading that could not be shown, by a skillful application of the technique of language analysis,
to be full of meaningless pseudo propositions (Popper 1952), p. 130). Popper is positive that each
hypothesis has a possible contradiction. This sensitiveness to problems to the extent of having a
consuming passion for them fortifies Popper s revolt against merely accepting plausible and
rationalized results of observations.
For falsification to take place, the scientist must identify situations that falsify or negate the
hypothesis. Finally,

Athletes Foot Research Paper
Topic:
Millions of people in the United States are affected by this infection of the foot each and every day.
Athlete s foot, which is also known as jock s itch, is a very common infection in the foot caused by a
fungus called trichophyton ( What is athlete s foot?...) Trichophyton particularly likes tight, moist
places where it can grow and eventually form athlete s foot. This fungal infection is present when the
victim can feel itchy, dry and red spots on their foot; it is generally found between the toes, and around
the heel when present. Athlete s foot is caused many easy ways, but it is also very easy to avoid. One
really common cause of athlete s foot is a wet and hot condition, such as sweaty sneakers after a long
workout. Athlete s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From playing soccer to walking around barefoot so many times, I have been a victim of athlete s foot.
To treat my athlete s foot, I used a non prescripted medication that I sprayed on at night before bed,
and I also used a foot powder during the day; I put the powder also in my soccer cleats, and in my
everyday shoes and socks. Eventually, after using the two antifungal medications, my athlete s foot
went away. I knew I had athlete s foot, because my feet stung each time I got them wet, they were
constantly dry and itching, and the contaminated area was always red. My personal athlete s foot was
mainly caused because when I was younger, I didn t dry my feet correctly, I didn t wash my soccer
socks after each time I wore them, I didn t wear shoes outside in my backyard, I also didn t wear shoes
at swimming pools/ swimming locker rooms. Now, since I have been a host of trichophyton, I am
doing as many things possible that I can to avoid it. I am wearing shoes outside and at public
swimming pools, I wash my socks after every use, I do not share shoes with infected people, or
anyone, and I wear shoes at the appropriate times outside and inside. I also have a genetic mutation for
athlete s foot. My father has gotten athlete s foot many times before; he treated it the same way I did.
Because I am an athlete and have the genetic mutation, I am highly at risk to get athlete s foot

Hitchhiker s Guide To The Galaxy Quote Analysis
My favorite quote comes from Douglass Adam s A Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy and goes as
follows: don t panic. It is a rather short quote and lacks a that special gravitas found in memorable
quotes from famous historical figures, but it has served me better than any other piece of advice. I
interpret it as a reference to the brevity of life and the tendency of mankind to blow things out of
proportion; basically, life is short so try not to waste it by excessively worrying about things that are
not important. To paraphrase another quote from the same book, I would rather be happy than right. At
the end of your life you will remember all of the good times that you had with your loved ones rather
than all of the little trivialities that seemed

Battle Of Peleliu Analysis
A Battle Analysis of Peleliu The Battle of Peleliu is one of the United States Marine Corps bloodiest
battles that is underappreciated because it held no such tactical value in the allied forces strategy to
win the war in the Pacific theater, Sledge (2007) tells us: the battle of Peleliu resulted in the 1st
Marine Division suffering more than twice as many casualties as the 2nd Marine division had on
Tarawa. (p.57) To get a true understanding of the battle of Peleliu, it is important to understand the
kind of terrain that was fought on, the size, composition and disposition of both the US and Japanese
forces were and finally going over the actual fighting on Peleliu. Terrain is a huge factor that dictates
what courses of action that can be taken in order to influence the battle. There for terrain analysis is
needed to help come up with your courses of action. First look at the size of the objective area.

Aloha Airlines Case Analysis Essay
1. AIRCRAFT MISHAP TIMELINE
On 28 April 1988, Aloha Airlines Flight 243, a Boeing 747 based out of Honolulu International
Airport, Hawaii, began operations on what was scheduled for six inter island flights. The First Officer
checked in with Aloha Airlines Flight Operations about 5:00am followed by the Captain shortly after.
The aircraft log was signed off and released for flight with no open write ups. They both completed
pre departure duties and proceeded to the aircraft. All pre flight preparations were performed in the
crew compartment and a visual external aircraft inspection was performed. The first officer was
pleased with the aircraft after the walk around and deemed it Ready for flight .

The aircraft was to some extent unstable and was responding to flight control inputs. Captain
immediately began a rapid emergency descent towards Kahului airport on the island of Maui. The
First Officer began calling Air Traffic Control (ATC) to report the flight divert and the state of
emergency. The First Officer could not hear an ATC reply due to the high noise of air blowing through
the crew compartment and cabin. On approach, the First Officer swapped over to the tower radio
frequency and made contact with ATC.
The tower dispatched the emergency response to the runway. The aircraft continued to approach the
airport at an appropriate and safe speed although the flight controls felt sluggish. The aircrew stated
that the controls felt loose with the aircraft rolling left and right. The gear was selected down and the
main gear down position light illuminated. The nose gear light did not illuminate. A manual extension
of the nose gear was performed but the gear light did not illuminate. The gear unsafe light did not

The Catholic Church And The Church
The Catholic Church as we know it is much different than that of the past. Love, acceptance,
forgiveness, giving, and tradition are all things that come to mind when the words Catholic Church are
heard. If one were to ask those living in the 1400 1800s what comes to mind when thinking about the
Catholic Church, their answer would have been very different. With the exception of a few countries,
there is a separation of the church and state in todays government. In our current state of government,
the church has no say in the justice system or decisions made by the government. There is no priest or
king who rules over the country or attends government meetings. In early Europe, this was not the
case. The Catholic Church had great influence on the government. The church actually was the
government in some countries who operated under a theocratic ruling. With God being the ultimate
ruler, the Priest or King was the next in power. The royals are supposedly Gods chosen ones. They are
the closest to him and everyone else is below them. The church had power over the military, who had
access to education, individuals socioeconomic class, the laws, and almost anything else one could
think of.1 The ultimate goal of the church was to convert anyone who was not Christian into a
Christian as a way of gaining power. The inquisition ordered conquistadores to find and conquer lands
which could be used to cultivate Spanish wealth and spread Catholicism.2 In this sense, the church s

Ross Sea Ecosystem
This article explores the possibility of threat to the ecosystem and the food chain of the Ross Sea. The
famous Antarctic toothfish plays a vital role in the food chain of the Ross Sea because it serves as a
main meal for higher order organisms. Researchers as well as locals have noticed the decrease in the
Antarctic toothfish because fishermen were not catching nearly as many toothfish as they were before
2002. This observation was puzzling because the use of a new tool for monitoring the amount of
Antarctic toothfish in 2014 showed that the prevalence of the Antarctic toothfish was similar to that
before 2002. These findings pushed researchers to hypothesize that either the Antarctic toothfish had
recently returned to the McMurdo Sound or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only piece of information used to determine that there was a lack in Antarctic toothfish was the 40
year record of toothfish reduction after 2001. This record was not explained thoroughly in this article.
It would be more useful if the data was given for each year in question after 2001. This would be used
to compare if there was a general decrease in Antarctic toothfish from year to year. Due to there being
a decrease in Antarctic toothfish, an immediate accusation was made towards the Ross Sea toothfish
fishery for the fault of this decrease. This accusation is not supported because the authors disclosed
that the fishery had not reported any increase in the amount of Antarctic toothfish caught by their
fishery during that time. Another experimental flaw was the use of a new program for monitoring the
Antarctic toothfish. This large of a discrepancy between observation and experimental results could be
due to an error resulting from using new equipment. In order to have effective results, credible
equipment that was known to work and give correct results should have been used to give the final
findings. Not only was new monitoring equipment employed, but new monitoring techniques were
implemented as well. Only one trial was completed using the new equipment and techniques. Multiple
trials should have been performed to compare if the

The Success Of Michael Vick
Another reason Michael Vick rebuilt his image after the dog fighting scandal of 2007 was that he
helped develop the Animal Fighting Speculation Prohibition Act. One way he did that was helping
craft the future to prevent dog fighting. Once Vick and a few others came up with the idea, they
brought it to Wayne Pacelle, the president of the Humane Society. We saw a great opportunity for me
to come to Capitol Hill and draw attention to some of the inadequate animal welfare laws (Vick). Vick
was eight years old when he saw his first dog fight. Back then, police would come break up the fights,
but no one would be arrested. Vick wanted to change that.

For instance, Philadelphia Eagles fans had mixed reactions with Vick s signing. Some supported him,

Philadelphia didn t want the Eagles to sign quarterback Michael Vick, because he was a convicted
felon ( Protester Again ). Vick new this and used it as fuel to work as hard as he could on and off the
field to prove those people wrong. Vick wanted people to know that he was not only going to talk the
talk, but he was going to walk the walk as well (Vick). One night, after Vick had a meeting with James
Dubose, who was producing a documentary on him, a reporter/sports writer followed him onto the
elevator. He asked Vick what he ate, if he had any drinks, and who he was talking to. He did this all to
try to expose him violating his probation (Vick). Vick was disturbed by this, because it meant that
some people hated him so much that they would go that far out of their way just to get rid of him.
Andy Reid, the Eagles coach at the time, took particular interest in Vick s recovery because he had
two sons imprisoned in 2007 for drug abuse. He knew what it was like seeing all those men in prison
throwing their lives away. Vick received advice and help from Coach

Comparative Analysis Of National Cultures Between Uk And...
Q 1
Based upon the comparative analysis of national cultures between UK and China, what should B Q
have considered with regard to their HRM in China operations, when they expanded their businesses
to China? (30 marks)
Due to the culture difference between the UK and China, the Human Resource Management system
also is different between these two countries. Thus when B Q explored Chinese market, the need
consider on changing their HRM system to keep efficiency and adapt China, this specific country,
mainly in four areas; work organization, performance management, rewards and promotions, as well
as recruitment and selection.
As for the work organization, according to Hofstede s national culture data(), China has a lower
individualism compare with UK,() it leads to a phenomenon that Chinese have lower degree of
specialization of each individual. Not like UK emphasizes work individually, China prefers to work in
group. Hence, B Q should regard that organization should been divide into many small group, and
arrange task through group. In addition, Chinese data reflects that power distance in this country is
relatively high; employee believes that inequalities amongst people are acceptable(). This would
accompany with a high level of work procedures and low autonomy in work related decision making,
as the employees do not have the power or interest to participate in its. Based on it, when B Q
expanded in China, specially focus on the HRM, they do not need to build flat hierarchy

Bar Mitzvah s Compared To Confirmation
Bar Mitzvah Bah Mitzvah s Compared to Confirmation
Catholic and Judaism are considered opposite religions, yet they share very similar rituals and
ceremonies. A Catholic child typically around twelve or thirteen years old goes through their
confirmation. This is a ceremony where the young adult promises to follow with the religion and
continue to learn about the faith. In the Jewish faith when a girl is twelve and a boy is thirteen they
celebrate their Bah Mitzvah if they are a girl or Bar Mitzvah if they are a boy. This ceremony is also
when the young adult promises to follow their religion and stay close to and learn more about their
faith.

A Bar Mitzvah or Bah Mitzvah is celebrated in a similar manor to the Catholic Confirmation. During a
Jewish Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah the child that is becoming of age reads from the Torah in front of
the Sabbath congregation, they say prayers and read other readings. After the ceremony at the
synagogue the whole family gathers to congratulate the young adult who just took their own step into
the faith of Judaism. At these parties a lot of food is served, the person who just had their Bah/Bar
Mitzvah receives their gifts. There is no religious aspect to the after party of the ceremony at the
synagogue so anything can take place during the party and it can have a theme to make it more
entertaining for the guests.
These two religions have celebrated these ceremonies for centuries and both religions continue to
today. Even though the religions beliefs conflict with each other it is no secret that they are very
similar in a lot of ways. The Confirmation ceremony and the Bah /Bat Mitzvah ceremonies are a
perfect example of this. They are celebrated almost the same but Catholic s now do confirmation with
groups and Jews still have individual Bar/Bah Mitzvah s. Besides that one difference the ceremonies
are both pretty much the same. Both the ceremonies are for the young adult to admit to the
congregation that they will continue to follow in the faith. Both ceremonies require readings and
prayers performed by

Rights And Responsibilities Of U.s. Citizens
Rights and Responsibilities of U.S. Citizens
Become a citizen of one of the best nations in the world is a privilege that not many people have. I m
talking about the United States of America. If you are an U.S natural born citizen you have rights and
responsibilities that protect you based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S Constitution.
People who are in the position to become U.S. citizens gain the same rights, privileges, and
responsibilities of citizenship as natural born American with the only restriction that they can t be
eligible for President of the United States.
The United States Constitution protects the rights of every U.S. citizen from every background,
culture or religion. Here are some of the rights and responsibilities that every citizen should exercise
and respect to ensures that America continues to be a free and prosperous nation.
Before I start describing some of the rights and responsibilities it s important to talk about the
difference between these two. Rights are what protect you as individual in a society, things that the
government has established for good in benefit of the citizens written on the Constitution and
responsibilities is what makes you morally or ethically accountable in society, in other words rights
are given to you from the government as a form of privilege and responsibilities is how you repay or
give in return for those rights given to you.

The Conflict Of Identity In The Picture Of Dorian Gray
The Picture of Dorian Grey as a novel in the Victorian Era was shocking to readers of the time due to
the open nature of topics like: sexuality, greed and corruption. A Freudian perspective of the
characters: Basil, Lord Henry and Dorian can be seen as the Id, Ego and Super Ego. Basil is the Super
Ego, he conforms to a certain extent and tries to make Dorian lead a moral life when it comes to
desperate times of the loss of the real Dorian ; Lord Henry can be seen as the Id, the immoral character
who tries to convince Dorian to submit to his natural urges and passions; Dorian is the Ego, one who
in the beginning is in between the two and has a power struggle within as to how he should act as a
character in the novel. In answering this question and exploring the conflicts shown in the novel one
must look at the gender, identity and sexuality.
One conflict shown in Dorian Grey is the conflict of identity portrayed in the novel by Oscar Wilde.
The character Basil describes Lord Henry to be a very influential character to another s identity, for
example, Don t spoil him. Don t try influence him. Your influence would be bad. Spoiling Dorian
shows that he is pure, and should not be tainted by Lord Henry s character; this shows that Lord Henry
is impure in thought and in his actions and this impacts his approach towards others. As Basil says
this, it shows that he understands the flaws in Lord Henry s character, but also his power in
manipulation, especially towards someone like

Heraclitus Argumentative Essay
Heraclitus believed in a world of Logos, or logic, and that mankind lacks basic reasoning. He stated
that senses are necessary to understanding the world we live in, but without the right language, we
cannot interpret it correctly, and so, it s a mistake for barbaric men to have senses (barbaric men do
not have the capability to learn language). Many of his ideas are widely known today. For example,
expect the unexpected and that if things happened the way we want or wish them to be, then the world
would become chaotic. Heraclitus stated, Opposition brings concord. Out of discord comes the fairest

to have certain occupations. For example, in the 1950s women were supposed to become housewives
and stay at home all day cleaning, cooking, or taking care of their children (Parry 1584). Men on the
other hand, were suspected to go out and work all day doing whatever occupation they held. Due to
the media uprising in the 19th century, women began to feel restrained on what they can accomplish.
They began to care about their appearance more than anything else. This is one of the factors that
created the gender gap, but society has always had the gap that has separated the two. This picture was
taken in California in 1921, and it depicts Dr. Louis Estes helping his daughter put on her boxing
gloves while she gets ready to square up against her little brother. The title of the picture describes the
daughter as husky which does not make sense. The word husky, usually applied to overweight
individuals, does not accurately describe the girl in the photo. It is possible that the author may be
referring to her as more masculine than feminine in the picture. This influential image shows the
daughter as taller than both males in the photo which asserts dominance. Also, both Dr. Estes and his
son s eyes, both lead to the daughter s, which makes her the focal point of the image. Dr. Estes

Ronald Reagan Commemorative Speech
Second Main Point Description of Speech
a. Brief summary of speech Ronald Reagan s address is a commemorative speech meant to honor the
victims of the Challenger disaster and bring hope to a nation facing tragedy by encouraging the
continuation of space travel. According to our textbook, a commemorative speech is When we speak
to praise, memorialize, or celebrate...a person, event, or idea (Houck, ch. 4). In this speech, Reagan s
main focus is to memorialize the victims of the Challenger disaster, but he also aims to celebrate and
praise their dedication to exploration.
i. During this address to the nation, Ronald Reagan followed chronological order by first comparing
the disaster to other space faring disasters that previously occurred, then discussing Challenger itself,
and finally providing his vision for hope and continuing exploration in the future. ii. Organizing his
speech in this way was very effective to reassure Americans that the nation would rise up from this
tragedy. By first discussing tragedies of the past, saying, Nineteen years ago, almost to the day, we lost
three astronauts in a terrible accident on the ground. But we ve never lost an astronaut in flight. We ve
never had a tragedy like this (Eidenmuller), Reagan acknowledges that the country has overcome
tragedies before, even if they were different. He then discusses the current situation of losing the
Challenger astronauts and the impact of the tragedy as the country mourns. By ending on his

Using Implicit And Explicit Self Esteem
First Article
Problem:
The problem the authors are addressing is the reason correlations of implicit and explicit self esteem is
lower in Chinese culture versus western culture (Yu, Chen, Zhang, and Jin, 2015). The authors
suggested the problem has not been clearly defined and researched and this was their motivation in
researching this topic. They wanted a clearer understanding as to why implicit and explicit self esteem
is lower in Chinese cultures versus western cultures. The authors were successful in articulating the
problem with the gap in the literature. The authors defined and discussed in detail collectivists and
individualists (Yu et. Al., 2015), and how it plays a role in self esteem. The authors suggested people
with a more individualistic background obtain a larger amount of self awareness than people with a
collectivism background (Yu et. Al., 2015). This is due to the fact that collectivism focuses on the
outside world, whereas individualism focuses on one s self. In the article a hypothesis was clearly
defined. The authors defined their hypothesis as the following, ...we hypothesize that individualism
would moderate the relationship between implicit self esteem and explicit self esteem, but
collectivism would not , as stated by Yu, Chen, Zhang, and Jin, 2015.
Methodology:
The authors used 100 participants from undergraduate studies from three different colleges, in medium
sized cities, in central China (Yu et. Al., 2015) There were a total of 41 men and

Critical Book Review of Slaughterhouse Five
In Slaughterhouse Five, Kurt Vonnegut explains his experience of the World War II bombing of
Dresden, Germany. Vonnegut s creative antiwar novel shows the audience the hardships of the life of a
soldier through his writing technique. Slaughterhouse Five is written circularly, and time travel is
ironically the only consistency throughout the book. Vonnegut outlines the life of Billy Pilgrim, whose
life and experiences are uncannily similar to those of Vonnegut. In Chapter 1, Kurt Vonnegut non
fictionally describes his intentions for writing the book. Vonnegut personally experienced the
destruction of Dresden, and explains how he continuously tried to document Dresden but was
unsuccessful for twenty three years after the war. Vonnegut let ... Show more content on

He has situated the book in a fashion that it is not chronological, has isn t linear, is fictional and non
fictional, and maintains the same satirical voice throughout. The style makes the reader think there is
no plot line, and that Vonnegut is freelance writing, however his work was greatly thought out, for
twenty three years actually. Vonnegut s constant confusion about the war and circular thoughts left few
options for techniques in which he could tell his story.
To portray the story clearly would have been virtually impossible, since the author himself didn t even
know the answers to his questions, so he approached it in a unique way. This organization, or assumed
lack thereof by the audience, indicates strongly Vonneguts deep confusion about life and death, and
his juggling with ideas over the concepts.
At some points in the story Vonnegut changes from third person to first person, indicating that he was
among the soldiers. When the paths of Billy and the narrator meet up at Dresden, there is a brief
period of person shift. The narrator uses ‘us and ‘we , simply because Vonnegut is there too. Charles

devastating firebombing. He, too, worked in the corpse mines and saw a friend

Peptic Ulcer Disease and Pediatric Patients
PUD is not as common in pediatric patients when compared to adult incidences. The most common
cause of PUD in pediatrics is due to Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) infection (Guariso Gasparetto,
2012). Primitive ulcers, due to H. pylori, cause changes in the gastric or duodenal mucosa and alter
gastric function such as overproduction of HCl and pepsin, resulting in ulcer forming lesions (Guariso
Gasparetto, 2012). NSAIDs, stress and other extra gastric pathogenic events cause secondary ulcers
within the stomach. The underlying pathology of PUD is due to the reduction of prostaglandins that
serve as a protective mechanism on the gastric mucosa. Patients most commonly present with dull
stomach ache or pain usually after a meal. Gas, bloating, nausea and vomiting are some less common
symptoms. PUD, although rare when compared to adults, is reported worldwide in children and most
commonly identified as initiated by H. pylori infection and the use of NSAIDs occurring in the second
decade of life. Other events such as stress, shock, or major trauma can trigger acute ulcers in children
but there is a hereditary family history component that increases acid output and accelerates gastric
emptying in more than 20% of patients (Guariso Gasparetto, 2012). Although H. pylori infection is the
more common cause of PUD, the use of NSAIDs increases the risk of acquiring PUD (Guariso
Gasparetto, 2012).

Summary Of Bruce Springsteen s Born To Run
The 1970 s, filled with unraveling American society and global uncertainty, spawned many of music s
greatest artists. One of these artists was Bruce Springsteen, who has paved the way for the rock genre
since his 1975 album, Born to Run. While global issues continued at the hands of politicians, no one
quite captured the average Americans issues like Bruce Springsteen s Born to Run. Preformed and
composed entirely by Springsteen, with primary producer Jon Landau and incredible accompaniment
by the wide range E Street Band, the album flawlessly depicted normal Americans problems with the
decaying American dream and crumbling ideals. Bruce Springsteen, through insightful lyrics and
instrumentation, successfully and emotionally showcased common American ideals through his Born
to Run album. Before his successful breakout album, Springsteen endured the uncertain and unstable
society created in the wake of World War II. The United States, in the midst of Cold War tensions on a
global scale, faced domestic challenges as social reform movements protested for natural rights and
American troop removal from Vietnam ( Modern America ). On the musical side of American society,
deaths of influential artists, such as legendary rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix and blues singer Janis
Joplin, and the demise of the 1960s counterculture soured the entrance into the 1970s. Born in a
struggling working class New Jersey in late 1949, Springsteen observed the nature of blue collar life
first hand through his family, despite the increase of affluent, suburban life ( Springsteen s Born to
Run ). These early life experiences influenced Springsteen s songwriting themes and provided an
escape through music. Although Springsteen had established his musical career before 1975, he had
yet to achieve commercial success ( Springsteen, Bruce ). Destined to become the next icon in the
rock genre, Columbia Records allowed Springsteen one final attempt to create a profitable record (
Springsteen, Bruce ). Joined by his E Street Band, which included keyboardists Roy Brittan and
Danny Federici, bassist Garry Tallent, backup guitarist Steven Van Zandt, drummer Max Weinberg,
and 1950 s R B influenced saxophonist Clarence Clemons, Springsteen set out to

The Beatitudes In Jesus sermon On The Mount In Matthew 5
Conforming to the world brings shame, but standing with the righteous brings eternal glory. In Jesus
Sermon on the Mount found in Matthew 5, He gives the world a path to follow, an outline of how to
live commonly known as the Beatitudes. The Beatitudes are puzzling to us. They are difficult to put
together rationally and find the logic in them. God s plans for our world and for our lives are not
always logical to us, but He is God and does things for reasons we cannot understand. We can see
through the Beatitudes and Beyond the Gates of Splendor that the Peacemaker is the Child of God
who can rejoice when persecuted for righteousness sake. This type of persecution shows that the
Peacemaker has been recognized as someone who has not conformed to the pattern of this world, and
has lived a life worthy of their call of Christ Jesus which then allows them to enter the Kingdom of
Heaven and be called children of God.
One of the biggest contradictions we seem to be faced with in the Beatitudes is the eighth and final
one. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against
you because of me. Rejoice and be glad because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way
they persecuted the prophets who were before you (Matthew 5:10). It does not seem to be logical to be
blessed when evil is against you. I struggle with the

The Reconstruction Era During The Civil War
The Reconstruction Era beginning in 1865 marked the period where white men and recently freed
African Americans quarreled over the concept of equality on the basis of race as well as where
freedom extended to. After the Civil War, there was a power struggle between the Republican and
Democratic parties as they had extremely distinct ideas on whether African Americans should be free
and hold citizen rights. African Americans were able to achieve citizenship as well as have equality
through the 14th amendment, however the struggle did not finish here, tensions between races
remained throughout the decades and the actual use of the amendment was not widespread. During
this time, two influential men were able to experience each side of this political spectrum. Robert
Smalls was a former slave who was able to gain positions in congress and advocated for political
equality throughout the southern states. Wade Hampton, was a highly educated southern planter, war
leader and senator who never accepted racial equality, always seeking to end all attempts of reform
alongside the Democratic Party. The Reconstruction proposed by congress was meant to abolish
slavery and enforce fair labor laws. As this sounds ideal, both Smalls and Hampton were bitterly
disappointed with it and would agree that Reconstruction was a failure despite their contrasting
political views. In a speech in 1876 Robert Smalls advocates against the removal of federal troops
located in the South to enforce the new

well. Abortion is a major topic in today s society. You have a great number of people who against it
and there are also some who support it. There are many different situations that a person takes into
consideration before making their decisions. I believe that the article And So I Choose by Allison

Wade. According to the Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, The Roe v. Wade case was decided on in
1973 by the U.S. Supreme Court. This decision legalized abortion in the first trimester of pregnancy. It
was created from two different cases. hat of an unmarried woman from Texas, where abortion was
illegal unless the mother s life was at risk, and that of a poor, married mother of three from Georgia,
where state law required permission for an abortion from a panel of doctors and hospital officials.
While establishing the right to an abortion, this decision gave states the right to intervene in the
second and third trimesters of pregnancy to protect the woman and the potential life of the unborn
child ( Roe V. Wade ). According to CNN Library, The Court held that a woman s right to an abortion
fell within the right to privacy (recognized in Griswold v. Connecticut) protected by the Fourteenth
Amendment. The decision gave a woman a right to abortion during the entirety of the pregnancy and
defined different levels of state interest for regulating abortion in the second and third trimesters. The
ruling affected laws in 46 states ( Roe v. Wade Fast Facts CNN.com ). There were also several other
court cases about abortion that followed the Roe v. Wade case.
Allison Crews, the author of this article, was much like us. She grew up in a pro life home and that
was all that she knew. Her mother was very active in helping young women make the decision to not
have an abortion. She protested with her mother and that is the day that her life was forever changed.
Shortly after she became pregnant at a young age and fought the urge to have an abortion and refused
to have an adoption regardless of what every one else wanted her to do. She became pro choice and
gave us readers a whole new definition of what pro choice

Your Assumptions Are Your Windows On The World Summary
Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in awhile, or the light
won t come in. Isaac Asiman describes an assumption in a visual way. When people make an
assumption, their view of the world becomes dimmer and darker. The window will get more tainted
and the outside world won t be as clear as it used to be. Their windows will be completely dark until
all they can see is their reflections staring back at them with wondering eyes. The individual has been
so sure of themselves that they didn t realize the world was slipping away into a dimming light. Now,
all they are left with is darkness. Everyone has been pushed away by that individual s vision of how
things are ought to be. It s until that they see their own reflection do they see that the world has closed
off. For the light to reappear in their life again, the person will have to see the other side and get in
touch with the reality of the world. Once the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whenever someone makes an assumption, they will look for clues that will back up their assumption.
This happens a lot when someone is trying to figure out if two people are dating or not. If someone
assumes that the two are dating, they will keep their assumption hidden until they have all the facts.
One reason why assumptions stay hidden from us is that they are so deeply ingrained; the assumptions
may appear when we come across a certain person or group that ll remind us of the assumption.
People can also make assumptions about different cultures. While we may have a culture a certain
way, another country may have there s a completely different way. Whenever we travel to another
country, we will need to bring the different assumptions to light that way we can learn about their
culture with an open

Be the change you wish to see in the world is a great quote to live by because it guides you to help

use what I believe in, and my goals to make a change. Abortion is a very common debate in the world,
and it has been this way for hundreds of years. There are two main arguments when it comes to
abortion, most people are either Pro Life or Pro Choice. People that are pro life are against abortions
and believe that every human life has equal worth and should have the opportunity to live. While
people who are pro choice believe that women should have the choice to decide if they wanted to keep

because I believe that abortions are used as a way out of something that people are in no hurry to try

young adults think that they need to be joining what everyone is doing. This ends up creating a child

Ira L. Baldwin s The Biological Weapons Program During...
Ira L. Baldwin Review Ira Baldwin was born in the state of Indiana in 1895. His youth was spent on a
40 acre farm that his family owned. Growing up on a farm gave Baldwin a unique perspective. He saw
the devastation of what insects and pest could do to their crops. To pay his way through college, he did
what many farmers sons would do. He sold ducks and husked corn in order to get the money he
needed.
Baldwin had many accomplishments during his lifetime. He attended Purdue and then the University
of Wisconsin, Madison where he obtained his PHD. He later became faculty at the college as an
agriculture bacteriologist. He wrote an article called Chemicals and Pests. He was also the director of
the biological weapons program during World War II. After the war, he became the Vice President of
academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin. Someone who has these achievements must be highly
respected in their field.
As many public issues began to arise over the use of pesticides, Rachel Carson published Silent

using pesticides. She did significant research on the issues that go along with the use of pesticides but
left out the entirety of the benefits and contributions of their use. It does nothing to indicate all of the
positive ways that pesticides benefit the lives of humans daily. In his article, Ira says, I can understand

How White People Became White
How White People Became White
Paula S. Rothenberg
William Paterson University of New Jersey
Abstract Biologically speaking, it s just as possible for a given white person in Florida to have
genetics similar to his neighbor down the street as it would be for the same white person to have
genetics similar to a black person in Nigeria. We could just as easily disregard skin color and pay
attention to hair and/or eye color. Sociologists make this claim because they argue that the definition
of what constitutes a race is something that is arbitrarily decided by society. Additionally, what it
means to classify yourself or someone else as a particular race carries social meaning. Sociologist
claims that race as a biological concept ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whiteness refers to a historical systemic structural race based superiority (Philip C. Wander). You
might think that because skin color was so central to the law, that whiteness and blackness were
carefully defined and easy to understand. They were defined by law, but they were not easy to
understand in practice. The inferior were, by God s will, destined to be enslaved by the superior. Slave
property became totally identified with people who happened to have black skin, the color that had
always horrified the West (Kovel, 1984, p.21). Abraham Lincoln believed in the racial superiority of
white people, although he felt blacks should be paid a fair day s wage for their work. People in the
South thought he was an abolitionist in disguise. The confusion and the horror surrounding these
complexities emerged, after the Civil War, in Jim Crow laws designed to keep the races apart. The law,
pressured by the leaky nature of racial categories, devised a one drop theory if you had one drop of
non white blood in your veins, you could not qualify as white. Throughout our history, whiteness has
legally speaking, been a form of property (Harris amp; Wander 1971) In the twentieth century, these
fears gained a great deal of social legitimacy thanks to the efforts of an influential network of
aristocrats and scientists who developed theories of eugenics breeding for a better humanity and
scientific racism. Key to these efforts was Madison Grant s

Rhetorical Analysis: Pharmaceutical Innovation In Joel Lexchin s article Pharmaceutical innovation:
Can we live forever? A commentary on Schnittker and Karandinos he addresses the article made by
Schnittker and Karandinos about the progression of pharmaceuticals and whether or not we have
advanced enough to significantly increase our life expectancy. Lexchin uses a plethora of rhetoric to
persuade the reader into believing his argument, mostly relying upon logos, chiefly facts, to appeal to
the logical and sensible side of the readers. His argument is not limited to logos though, as there are

greater care units than Canada, as well as a higher NME approval rate, why is the life expectancy

The Night Of Broken Glass
There are so many different forms of hate in this world. Racism, prejudice, antisemitism, bullying and
more. There are victims and perpetrators everywhere, you may even be one yourself. Diverse groups
all over the world constantly face hatred from people. If you are white, and part of a religion like
christianity, you are in a majority. Very little hate is aimed towards you. So what about the minority?
Or the diverse people? They are looked down on. People who rarely experience or even see acts of
antisemitism, racism, and other acts of hate rarely know how to sympathize. They can t relate, so that s

really was. One women, Ruth Wichtenstein, questioned this dilemma by asking How can Jews tolerate

the truth of what happened that night? Ruth does not understand how Jewish people are going to be
able to explain this event to their descendants. She is implying that the event is so horrific, parents will
not be able to tell the truth. If I were jewish, I would struggle with this as well. All kids get curious,
and they would definitely want to know about their Jewish history and what really occurred on
November 9th, 1938. But how are we supposed to tell them? Kristallnacht was violent, scary, and not

  • 2. Scientific Method and Sir Karl Popper Sir Karl Popper, challenging the status quo, inspiring generations to ponder on the meaning of science, the methods to find truth, is one of the most influential philosophers of the 20th century. Of particular importance to scientific methods of inquiry is the brawl between the development of theory and the criteria for science. In Popper s own words, it is in this brawl that Popper decided to grapple with the problem: When should a theory be ranked as scientific? or Is there a criterion for the scientific character or status of a theory? (Popper 1957), p. 1). Born just after the turn of the century in 1902 (my Great Aunt was 4 at the time), in London, England, Popper began grappling with the brawl between when is theory scientific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of empirical methods and inductive explanations is the root cause for Popper s revolt upon the metaphysical reasoning used to explain social behavior (at this time). It is not that astrology is a pseudo science; astrology is merely a residue of the subject of the investigation (Popper 1952). Disciplines are means of administratively distinguishing the unified systems from which problems may be taught. It is far more important to understanding falsification that We are not students of a subject matter but students of problems (Popper 1952)p. 125). Traditionally, scientists formed hypotheses to explain or rationalize some natural phoneme that they have observed. Popper intends that a hypothesis must predict a phenomenon or behavior and not just offer to explain it. I believe that there is not a classic of science, or of mathematics, or indeed a book worth reading that could not be shown, by a skillful application of the technique of language analysis, to be full of meaningless pseudo propositions (Popper 1952), p. 130). Popper is positive that each hypothesis has a possible contradiction. This sensitiveness to problems to the extent of having a consuming passion for them fortifies Popper s revolt against merely accepting plausible and rationalized results of observations. For falsification to take place, the scientist must identify situations that falsify or negate the hypothesis. Finally, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Athletes Foot Research Paper Topic: Millions of people in the United States are affected by this infection of the foot each and every day. Athlete s foot, which is also known as jock s itch, is a very common infection in the foot caused by a fungus called trichophyton ( What is athlete s foot?...) Trichophyton particularly likes tight, moist places where it can grow and eventually form athlete s foot. This fungal infection is present when the victim can feel itchy, dry and red spots on their foot; it is generally found between the toes, and around the heel when present. Athlete s foot is caused many easy ways, but it is also very easy to avoid. One really common cause of athlete s foot is a wet and hot condition, such as sweaty sneakers after a long workout. Athlete s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From playing soccer to walking around barefoot so many times, I have been a victim of athlete s foot. To treat my athlete s foot, I used a non prescripted medication that I sprayed on at night before bed, and I also used a foot powder during the day; I put the powder also in my soccer cleats, and in my everyday shoes and socks. Eventually, after using the two antifungal medications, my athlete s foot went away. I knew I had athlete s foot, because my feet stung each time I got them wet, they were constantly dry and itching, and the contaminated area was always red. My personal athlete s foot was mainly caused because when I was younger, I didn t dry my feet correctly, I didn t wash my soccer socks after each time I wore them, I didn t wear shoes outside in my backyard, I also didn t wear shoes at swimming pools/ swimming locker rooms. Now, since I have been a host of trichophyton, I am doing as many things possible that I can to avoid it. I am wearing shoes outside and at public swimming pools, I wash my socks after every use, I do not share shoes with infected people, or anyone, and I wear shoes at the appropriate times outside and inside. I also have a genetic mutation for athlete s foot. My father has gotten athlete s foot many times before; he treated it the same way I did. Because I am an athlete and have the genetic mutation, I am highly at risk to get athlete s foot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Hitchhiker s Guide To The Galaxy Quote Analysis My favorite quote comes from Douglass Adam s A Hitchhiker s Guide to the Galaxy and goes as follows: don t panic. It is a rather short quote and lacks a that special gravitas found in memorable quotes from famous historical figures, but it has served me better than any other piece of advice. I interpret it as a reference to the brevity of life and the tendency of mankind to blow things out of proportion; basically, life is short so try not to waste it by excessively worrying about things that are not important. To paraphrase another quote from the same book, I would rather be happy than right. At the end of your life you will remember all of the good times that you had with your loved ones rather than all of the little trivialities that seemed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Battle Of Peleliu Analysis A Battle Analysis of Peleliu The Battle of Peleliu is one of the United States Marine Corps bloodiest battles that is underappreciated because it held no such tactical value in the allied forces strategy to win the war in the Pacific theater, Sledge (2007) tells us: the battle of Peleliu resulted in the 1st Marine Division suffering more than twice as many casualties as the 2nd Marine division had on Tarawa. (p.57) To get a true understanding of the battle of Peleliu, it is important to understand the kind of terrain that was fought on, the size, composition and disposition of both the US and Japanese forces were and finally going over the actual fighting on Peleliu. Terrain is a huge factor that dictates what courses of action that can be taken in order to influence the battle. There for terrain analysis is needed to help come up with your courses of action. • 10. The Catholic Church And The Church The Catholic Church as we know it is much different than that of the past. Love, acceptance, forgiveness, giving, and tradition are all things that come to mind when the words Catholic Church are heard. If one were to ask those living in the 1400 1800s what comes to mind when thinking about the Catholic Church, their answer would have been very different. With the exception of a few countries, there is a separation of the church and state in todays government. In our current state of government, the church has no say in the justice system or decisions made by the government. There is no priest or king who rules over the country or attends government meetings. In early Europe, this was not the case. The Catholic Church had great influence on the government. The church actually was the government in some countries who operated under a theocratic ruling. With God being the ultimate ruler, the Priest or King was the next in power. The royals are supposedly Gods chosen ones. They are the closest to him and everyone else is below them. The church had power over the military, who had access to education, individuals socioeconomic class, the laws, and almost anything else one could think of.1 The ultimate goal of the church was to convert anyone who was not Christian into a Christian as a way of gaining power. The inquisition ordered conquistadores to find and conquer lands which could be used to cultivate Spanish wealth and spread Catholicism.2 In this sense, the church s power ... • 12. Ross Sea Ecosystem This article explores the possibility of threat to the ecosystem and the food chain of the Ross Sea. The famous Antarctic toothfish plays a vital role in the food chain of the Ross Sea because it serves as a main meal for higher order organisms. Researchers as well as locals have noticed the decrease in the Antarctic toothfish because fishermen were not catching nearly as many toothfish as they were before 2002. This observation was puzzling because the use of a new tool for monitoring the amount of Antarctic toothfish in 2014 showed that the prevalence of the Antarctic toothfish was similar to that before 2002. These findings pushed researchers to hypothesize that either the Antarctic toothfish had recently returned to the McMurdo Sound or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only piece of information used to determine that there was a lack in Antarctic toothfish was the 40 year record of toothfish reduction after 2001. This record was not explained thoroughly in this article. It would be more useful if the data was given for each year in question after 2001. This would be used to compare if there was a general decrease in Antarctic toothfish from year to year. Due to there being a decrease in Antarctic toothfish, an immediate accusation was made towards the Ross Sea toothfish fishery for the fault of this decrease. This accusation is not supported because the authors disclosed that the fishery had not reported any increase in the amount of Antarctic toothfish caught by their fishery during that time. Another experimental flaw was the use of a new program for monitoring the Antarctic toothfish. This large of a discrepancy between observation and experimental results could be due to an error resulting from using new equipment. In order to have effective results, credible equipment that was known to work and give correct results should have been used to give the final findings. Not only was new monitoring equipment employed, but new monitoring techniques were implemented as well. Only one trial was completed using the new equipment and techniques. One way he did that was helping craft the future to prevent dog fighting. Once Vick and a few others came up with the idea, they brought it to Wayne Pacelle, the president of the Humane Society. We saw a great opportunity for me to come to Capitol Hill and draw attention to some of the inadequate animal welfare laws (Vick). Vick was eight years old when he saw his first dog fight. For example, the owner of a sandwich shop vowed to never serve Vick food (Vick). Vick didn t let this bother him, because he just had to keep going. Also, protesters in Philadelphia didn t want the Eagles to sign quarterback Michael Vick, because he was a convicted felon ( Protester Again ). Vick new this and used it as fuel to work as hard as he could on and off the field to prove those people wrong. Vick wanted people to know that he was not only going to talk the talk, but he was going to walk the walk as well (Vick). One night, after Vick had a meeting with James Dubose, who was producing a documentary on him, a reporter/sports writer followed him onto the elevator. He asked Vick what he ate, if he had any drinks, and who he was talking to. He did this all to try to expose him violating his probation (Vick). Vick was disturbed by this, because it meant that some people hated him so much that they would go that far out of their way just to get rid of him. Q 1 Based upon the comparative analysis of national cultures between UK and China, what should B Q have considered with regard to their HRM in China operations, when they expanded their businesses to China? (30 marks) Due to the culture difference between the UK and China, the Human Resource Management system also is different between these two countries. Thus when B Q explored Chinese market, the need consider on changing their HRM system to keep efficiency and adapt China, this specific country, mainly in four areas; work organization, performance management, rewards and promotions, as well as recruitment and selection. As for the work organization, according to Hofstede s national culture data(), China has a lower individualism compare with UK,() it leads to a phenomenon that Chinese have lower degree of specialization of each individual. Not like UK emphasizes work individually, China prefers to work in group. Hence, B Q should regard that organization should been divide into many small group, and arrange task through group. In addition, Chinese data reflects that power distance in this country is relatively high; employee believes that inequalities amongst people are acceptable(). After the ceremony at the synagogue the whole family gathers to congratulate the young adult who just took their own step into the faith of Judaism. The Conflict Of Identity In The Picture Of Dorian Gray The Picture of Dorian Grey as a novel in the Victorian Era was shocking to readers of the time due to the open nature of topics like: sexuality, greed and corruption. A Freudian perspective of the characters: Basil, Lord Henry and Dorian can be seen as the Id, Ego and Super Ego. Basil is the Super Ego, he conforms to a certain extent and tries to make Dorian lead a moral life when it comes to desperate times of the loss of the real Dorian ; Lord Henry can be seen as the Id, the immoral character who tries to convince Dorian to submit to his natural urges and passions; Dorian is the Ego, one who in the beginning is in between the two and has a power struggle within as to how he should act as a character in the novel. In answering this question and exploring the conflicts shown in the novel one must look at the gender, identity and sexuality. One conflict shown in Dorian Grey is the conflict of identity portrayed in the novel by Oscar Wilde. The character Basil describes Lord Henry to be a very influential character to another s identity, for example, Don t spoil him. Don t try influence him. Your influence would be bad. Spoiling Dorian shows that he is pure, and should not be tainted by Lord Henry s character; this shows that Lord Henry is impure in thought and in his actions and this impacts his approach towards others. As Basil says this, it shows that he understands the flaws in Lord Henry s character, but also his power in manipulation, especially towards someone like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He stated that senses are necessary to understanding the world we live in, but without the right language, we cannot interpret it correctly, and so, it s a mistake for barbaric men to have senses (barbaric men do not have the capability to learn language). Many of his ideas are widely known today. For example, expect the unexpected and that if things happened the way we want or wish them to be, then the world would become chaotic. • 22. Women During The 19th Century Men and women play different roles in society. In the beginning of the 19th century, the gap between males and females was much larger than it is now. Back then men and women were usually assumed to have certain occupations. For example, in the 1950s women were supposed to become housewives and stay at home all day cleaning, cooking, or taking care of their children (Parry 1584). Men on the other hand, were suspected to go out and work all day doing whatever occupation they held. Due to the media uprising in the 19th century, women began to feel restrained on what they can accomplish. They began to care about their appearance more than anything else. This is one of the factors that created the gender gap, but society has always had the gap that has separated the two. This picture was taken in California in 1921, and it depicts Dr. Louis Estes helping his daughter put on her boxing gloves while she gets ready to square up against her little brother. The title of the picture describes the daughter as husky which does not make sense. The word husky, usually applied to overweight individuals, does not accurately describe the girl in the photo. It is possible that the author may be referring to her as more masculine than feminine in the picture. This influential image shows the daughter as taller than both males in the photo which asserts dominance. Also, both Dr. Estes and his son s eyes, both lead to the daughter s, which makes her the focal point of the image. Dr. Estes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Brief summary of speech Ronald Reagan s address is a commemorative speech meant to honor the victims of the Challenger disaster and bring hope to a nation facing tragedy by encouraging the continuation of space travel. According to our textbook, a commemorative speech is When we speak to praise, memorialize, or celebrate...a person, event, or idea (Houck, ch. 4). In this speech, Reagan s main focus is to memorialize the victims of the Challenger disaster, but he also aims to celebrate and praise their dedication to exploration. i. During this address to the nation, Ronald Reagan followed chronological order by first comparing the disaster to other space faring disasters that previously occurred, then discussing Challenger itself, and finally providing his vision for hope and continuing exploration in the future. ii. Organizing his speech in this way was very effective to reassure Americans that the nation would rise up from this tragedy. By first discussing tragedies of the past, saying, Nineteen years ago, almost to the day, we lost three astronauts in a terrible accident on the ground. But we ve never lost an astronaut in flight. We ve never had a tragedy like this (Eidenmuller), Reagan acknowledges that the country has overcome tragedies before, even if they were different. • 24. Using Implicit And Explicit Self Esteem First Article Problem: The problem the authors are addressing is the reason correlations of implicit and explicit self esteem is lower in Chinese culture versus western culture (Yu, Chen, Zhang, and Jin, 2015). The authors suggested the problem has not been clearly defined and researched and this was their motivation in researching this topic. They wanted a clearer understanding as to why implicit and explicit self esteem is lower in Chinese cultures versus western cultures. The authors were successful in articulating the problem with the gap in the literature. The authors defined and discussed in detail collectivists and individualists (Yu et. Al., 2015), and how it plays a role in self esteem. The authors suggested people with a more individualistic background obtain a larger amount of self awareness than people with a collectivism background (Yu et. Al., 2015). This is due to the fact that collectivism focuses on the outside world, whereas individualism focuses on one s self. In the article a hypothesis was clearly defined. The authors defined their hypothesis as the following, ...we hypothesize that individualism would moderate the relationship between implicit self esteem and explicit self esteem, but collectivism would not , as stated by Yu, Chen, Zhang, and Jin, 2015. Vonnegut s constant confusion about the war and circular thoughts left few options for techniques in which he could tell his story. • 27. Peptic Ulcer Disease and Pediatric Patients PUD is not as common in pediatric patients when compared to adult incidences. The most common cause of PUD in pediatrics is due to Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) infection (Guariso Gasparetto, 2012). Primitive ulcers, due to H. pylori, cause changes in the gastric or duodenal mucosa and alter gastric function such as overproduction of HCl and pepsin, resulting in ulcer forming lesions (Guariso Gasparetto, 2012). NSAIDs, stress and other extra gastric pathogenic events cause secondary ulcers within the stomach. The underlying pathology of PUD is due to the reduction of prostaglandins that serve as a protective mechanism on the gastric mucosa. Patients most commonly present with dull stomach ache or pain usually after a meal. Gas, bloating, nausea and vomiting are some less common symptoms. PUD, although rare when compared to adults, is reported worldwide in children and most commonly identified as initiated by H. pylori infection and the use of NSAIDs occurring in the second decade of life. Other events such as stress, shock, or major trauma can trigger acute ulcers in children but there is a hereditary family history component that increases acid output and accelerates gastric emptying in more than 20% of patients (Guariso Gasparetto, 2012). Although H. pylori infection is the more common cause of PUD, the use of NSAIDs increases the risk of acquiring PUD (Guariso Gasparetto, 2012). • 30. Summary Of Bruce Springsteen s Born To Run The 1970 s, filled with unraveling American society and global uncertainty, spawned many of music s greatest artists. One of these artists was Bruce Springsteen, who has paved the way for the rock genre since his 1975 album, Born to Run. While global issues continued at the hands of politicians, no one quite captured the average Americans issues like Bruce Springsteen s Born to Run. Preformed and composed entirely by Springsteen, with primary producer Jon Landau and incredible accompaniment by the wide range E Street Band, the album flawlessly depicted normal Americans problems with the decaying American dream and crumbling ideals. Bruce Springsteen, through insightful lyrics and instrumentation, successfully and emotionally showcased common American ideals through his Born to Run album. Before his successful breakout album, Springsteen endured the uncertain and unstable society created in the wake of World War II. The United States, in the midst of Cold War tensions on a global scale, faced domestic challenges as social reform movements protested for natural rights and American troop removal from Vietnam ( Modern America ). On the musical side of American society, deaths of influential artists, such as legendary rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix and blues singer Janis Joplin, and the demise of the 1960s counterculture soured the entrance into the 1970s. Born in a struggling working class New Jersey in late 1949, Springsteen observed the nature of blue collar life first hand through his family, despite the increase of affluent, suburban life ( Springsteen s Born to Run ). These early life experiences influenced Springsteen s songwriting themes and provided an escape through music. Although Springsteen had established his musical career before 1975, he had yet to achieve commercial success ( Springsteen, Bruce ). Destined to become the next icon in the rock genre, Columbia Records allowed Springsteen one final attempt to create a profitable record ( Springsteen, Bruce ). Joined by his E Street Band, which included keyboardists Roy Brittan and Danny Federici, bassist Garry Tallent, backup guitarist Steven Van Zandt, drummer Max Weinberg, and 1950 s R B influenced saxophonist Clarence Clemons, Springsteen set out to ... In Jesus Sermon on the Mount found in Matthew 5, He gives the world a path to follow, an outline of how to live commonly known as the Beatitudes. The Beatitudes are puzzling to us. They are difficult to put together rationally and find the logic in them. God s plans for our world and for our lives are not always logical to us, but He is God and does things for reasons we cannot understand. We can see through the Beatitudes and Beyond the Gates of Splendor that the Peacemaker is the Child of God who can rejoice when persecuted for righteousness sake. This type of persecution shows that the Peacemaker has been recognized as someone who has not conformed to the pattern of this world, and has lived a life worthy of their call of Christ Jesus which then allows them to enter the Kingdom of Heaven and be called children of God. One of the biggest contradictions we seem to be faced with in the Beatitudes is the eighth and final one. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you (Matthew 5:10). The Reconstruction Era During The Civil War The Reconstruction Era beginning in 1865 marked the period where white men and recently freed African Americans quarreled over the concept of equality on the basis of race as well as where freedom extended to. After the Civil War, there was a power struggle between the Republican and Democratic parties as they had extremely distinct ideas on whether African Americans should be free and hold citizen rights. African Americans were able to achieve citizenship as well as have equality through the 14th amendment, however the struggle did not finish here, tensions between races remained throughout the decades and the actual use of the amendment was not widespread. During this time, two influential men were able to experience each side of this political spectrum. Robert Smalls was a former slave who was able to gain positions in congress and advocated for political equality throughout the southern states. Wade Hampton, was a highly educated southern planter, war leader and senator who never accepted racial equality, always seeking to end all attempts of reform alongside the Democratic Party. The Reconstruction proposed by congress was meant to abolish slavery and enforce fair labor laws. This decision legalized abortion in the first trimester of pregnancy. It was created from two different cases. hat of an unmarried woman from Texas, where abortion was illegal unless the mother s life was at risk, and that of a poor, married mother of three from Georgia, where state law required permission for an abortion from a panel of doctors and hospital officials. While establishing the right to an abortion, this decision gave states the right to intervene in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy to protect the woman and the potential life of the unborn child ( Roe V. Wade ). According to CNN Library, The Court held that a woman s right to an abortion fell within the right to privacy (recognized in Griswold v. Connecticut) protected by the Fourteenth Amendment. The decision gave a woman a right to abortion during the entirety of the pregnancy and defined different levels of state interest for regulating abortion in the second and third trimesters. His youth was spent on a 40 acre farm that his family owned. Growing up on a farm gave Baldwin a unique perspective. He saw the devastation of what insects and pest could do to their crops. To pay his way through college, he did what many farmers sons would do. He sold ducks and husked corn in order to get the money he needed. Baldwin had many accomplishments during his lifetime. He wrote an article called Chemicals and Pests. He was also the director of the biological weapons program during World War II. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whiteness refers to a historical systemic structural race based superiority (Philip C. Wander). You might think that because skin color was so central to the law, that whiteness and blackness were carefully defined and easy to understand. They were defined by law, but they were not easy to understand in practice. The inferior were, by God s will, destined to be enslaved by the superior. Slave property became totally identified with people who happened to have black skin, the color that had always horrified the West (Kovel, 1984, p.21). Abraham Lincoln believed in the racial superiority of white people, although he felt blacks should be paid a fair day s wage for their work. People in the South thought he was an abolitionist in disguise. The confusion and the horror surrounding these complexities emerged, after the Civil War, in Jim Crow laws designed to keep the races apart. The law, pressured by the leaky nature of racial categories, devised a one drop theory if you had one drop of non white blood in your veins, you could not qualify as white. A commentary on Schnittker and Karandinos he addresses the article made by Schnittker and Karandinos about the progression of pharmaceuticals and whether or not we have advanced enough to significantly increase our life expectancy. Lexchin uses a plethora of rhetoric to persuade the reader into believing his argument, mostly relying upon logos, chiefly facts, to appeal to the logical and sensible side of the readers. His argument is not limited to logos though, as there are faint traces of pathos, the longing to live forever, as well as ethos, society s needs for further advances, to further convince the reader. ... While throwing logic at us from every angle, Lexchin also manages to appeal to our deeper desires. He plays on humans yearning for eternal youth and immortality, as well as our fear of death. Immortality is a common goal of society and Lexchin uses is as a tool to get the reader to listen to his argument. With a respectable argument against the idea of pharmaceutical advances eventually leading to immortality, Lexchin uses multiple forms of rhetoric, mostly logos, to sway the readers. He sets our deep fantasies of someday being able to live forever against our rational minds and backs up his case with sound logic and viable examples that leave us no doubts about human limitation. ...
