Sociological Influences On Life
Every individual person in this world has many different sociological influences on their life. All
varying from education, religion, friends, and even the workplace. Some people may have a ton of
things that influence their lives and others may only have a few, all depending on that individual. In
my life particularly, the three biggest societal influences are education, family, and lastly my
extracurricular activities.
Education can be a huge part in some cultures, when it can also be a very small part in some cultures.
Our American culture education is huge. Kids spend their lives in school from when they are four
years old in preschool until they are 18 years as a senior in highschool. Those years are all spent six
hours a day five days a week throughout the year. After high school people have the option to continue
their education and go to college if they would prefer to. College may go upwards to 12 more years
depending on the degree that certain individual is pursuing. In our American Culture it is bad if you
don t have a college degree. People tend to think that people that don t continue to go to college are
not as intelligent when really they could be just as smart as anyone else. There are well over 20
prominent nations, which continue to discriminate against females by preventing them from learning.
In these countries, gender inequality in education not only stifles the development of women, but also
their sense of self worth. In Nepal, only seven percent

Poverty In Ayesha Says, By William Jaco
It s no secret that poverty affects minorities not only here in America but abroad as well. Our inner
cities see the blunt of legal system; with African American males incarcerated at a rate of 4,347 per
100,000 as of 2010(Shaefer Wu Edin 89) . Ayesha Jaco, sister to rapper Lupe fiasco, wrote the spoken
word poem Ayesha Says to shed light on injustices of a system that overwhelmingly affects minorities.
Ayesha s poem directly addresses issues that have been not only plaguing the black community, but
also compares the poverty we see here with the poverty we seen in conflict ridden countries. Things
like police brutality and the school to prison pipeline leading to mass incarcerations of minorities
overall, poverty and how it systematically affects minorities, and how people of all races and creeds
are coming together to fight these injustices. She reflects on how these things impact communities and
force a season of change among the people afflicted.
Ayesha s starting lines Englewood or Egypt, Bedstuy or Baghdad...the west bank or the westside of
Chicago(Ayesha) , alludes to comparisons between impoverished nations overseas to impoverished
areas of our country that generally occupied by minorities. This gets the ball rolling on the crux of
problems that people in the ghetto face, poverty being one of them. One of these results of poverty
that Ayesha mentions are that of food deserts. Wright defines Food Deserts , low income communities
with a poverty rate of 20% or

Womanhood In Pop Culture
American media is a powerful shaping force in developing values and behavior. As an institution, the
media wields the power to form, reinforce and dismantle gender ideologies (Stillman 51) which have
long lasting and negative results. Both magazines and television reflect behaviors, such as gossip and
sexual behaviors, already present within American culture (Stillman 52, MacKay and Covell 573), but
the media also creates new patterns of behavior that are then flooded into popular culture. Some of the
most common matters that the media creates and then floods into American culture are: fashion trends,
new phrases and other consumer oriented products. Because media within the United States is so
readily available to the people, it is nearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the United States, many people s behavior and thoughts on daily life are based on what is being
presented in television, young women especially. The images and realities being displayed on
American television contradicts Biblical womanhood by targeting specific virtues of Biblical women
and highlighting opposite characteristics. A specific contradiction to Biblical womanhood presented
often on television is gossip. The Bible teaches that women are to be reverent in behavior, not
slanderers (Titus 2:3). When the Biblical teaching against gossip is ignored by the media, the
destructive behavior of gossip and slander spreads violently among the women who watch television
shows in which gossip is prevalent. Gossip and slander lead to relational aggression among women,
especially those who are bombarded with images of women engaging in gossip and slander on
television constantly (Goldberg, Smith Adcock and Dixon 379). Because the Biblical teaching against
gossip is unheeded, relational aggression among women due to gossip and slander has become an
accepted part of life. That is to say, hostile behavior among women is now considered to be normal as
a result of the relationally aggressive images presented on television. Television

Narrative Essay On The Night Killer
The air turned black all around me.
When I woke up I realized that I had been captured by The Night Killer, . I was on my way to see my
friends when I stumbled and got mugged. Turns out I got to what looks to be a abandoned warehouse
of some kind. When I woke up there was a man about 6 4 and looked to be 240 pounds give or take
and then I asked.
What do you want . I will torture you without mercy so you will wish you never left your house, said
The Night Killer. I know what you do, you torture then kill people, I have seen it on the T.V. Mycroft
replied harshly. And I will do the same to you, bragged The Night Killer. So there I was stuck knowing

At that moment I was thinking hopefully I could get a wall or a piece a wall to move so I could
breathe. Then I realized that there were ceiling tiles so if I can move on and get it so I am in the ceiling
that would be amazing because I can escape. The next thing I hear was the sounds of police sirens and
I thought they were getting close but they were going on a high speed chase. I was happy then quickly
turned to sadness because I realized I would die in a ceiling if I could even get up there. The next task
that i wanted to accomplish was to get my body in the ceiling then use a piece of ceiling tile to
hopefully get a piece so it can flip up so I can go back out of the room. MI6, Put your hands where I
can, I won t ask again, yelled MI6. Never, responded The Night Killer The Night Killer tries to pull

for saving me, thanked Mycroft All I remember is a lot of police cars and sirens then I passed out in
the ambulance and woke up in the hospital. Then I ask Sherlock to come in here and I tell him that I
became really smart and want to join MI6 because I want to help and I like the name. Please I feel I
could help and hopefully bring down the Nite Owls, asked Mycroft Sure, why not, happily replied

Post-Communist Transition Economies Touched by the Euro...
The focus of this paper is on post communist transition economies touched by the Euro Zone crisis.
The negative influence it has made to economic dynamics was felt by everyone living in Central and
Eastern Europe. Despite the actual collapse of some economies in Central and Eastern Europe, lower
standards of living in parts of the region, protests and social anxiety, little attention was paid to the
crisis and the recession in the post communist countries that joined the European Union in 2004 and
2007. With their currencies, banking systems and economies on the verge of collapse of the Republic
of the Baltic Sea, formerly known as Baltic Tigers , were affected by the crisis in the form of the
sharpest in the whole European Union. The deeper integration of these economies into the global
market and full integration into the world economy (and the EU in particular) meant that these
countries have become much more vulnerable to the crisis and recession. The foundations of the
weakness were in the broad assimilation of neoliberal policies of the economies of Central and Eastern
Europe, high dependence on investment and, in particular, in their specific exposure to the operation
of international finance.
In the second part of the essay I would like to recall the examples of successful and unsuccessful
companies operating in European Union. The positive

Telemedicine Application Essay
As the chief security officer, my organization I m considering the implementation a telemedicine
application. The telemedicine application will be useful for surgeons. It will allow our surgeons to
assist in an operation via telemedicine using Internet connection to do so. They will be able to connect
from one city to another with the use of this application. Listed below is my analysis on telemedicine
application risks.
Who might want to attack the program?
There is no true one identity to an attacker. As stated by C. Pfleeger, S. Pfleeger and Margulies (2015),
the type of attackers could be Criminals for hire, Loosely Connected Group, Organized Crime
Member(s), Hackers, Terrorist, and Individual(s). An attacker can be someone or a group ... Show

What kinds of vulnerabilities might they exploit to cause harm?
There is numerous type of vulnerabilities that are considered weaknesses. There is no true bulletproof
program, system, or computer. Vulnerabilities can be considered but not limited to weak
authentication, lack of access control, errors in the programs, finite or insufficient resources and
inadequate physical protection (Pfleeger et al., 2015, p. 28).
Who would be the owner of the telemedicine application?
The owner of the telemedicine application would, in this case, be the OR director, as that department
will be the primary owner and user of the application. Rinehart Thompson (2013), identifies the owner
of major applications to be the director of the department that will be the primary user of the
application.
What type of threats might be identified?
Threats can come in many different forms, human and nonhuman. Some can cause harm, while others
can cause no harm. Advanced persistent threat attacks come from organized, well financed, patient
assailants (Pfleeger et al., 2015, p. 15)

The Mummification Of Ancient Egyptian Mummies
These mysterious dried out bodies, encased in linen, are more interesting than you think. Ancient
Egyptians buried mummies in tombs with objects the mummy needed for something called the
afterlife. These creepy creatures were made in a quite nasty way. There are many questions asked on
Egyptian mummies such as what are the steps of mummification, why is the heart left in the body, and
how is the tomb prepared for the afterlife.s A few of the steps to making a mummy can be quite
disturbing. When someone passes away, their bodies can be mummified. The egyptians believed the
body was important in the person s next life. First, the dead body is cleaned with natron salt dissolved
in water, and rubbed in oil perfumes. Next, the body is brought to

Jet Blue and West Jet Essay
JET BLUE AND WESTJET: A tale of two IS projects
1. How important is the reservation systems at airlines such as WestJet and JetBlue. How does it
impact operational activities and decision making?
Over the past years, customers have been heavily relying on airline reservation systems to book their
tickets, reserve seats, pay for the tickets and also check in online. For customers, this has been a very
convenient method and they are able to easily plan their trips. For the Airline companies, these
systems have the whole flight inventory managed. They have all the flight information stored and
records are maintained. It also provides a platform for communication between other airline
companies for their code sharing plans and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
WestJet faces the risk of losing many of their customers due to their system crashes and delays. This
benefits their competitors and hence a lot of revenue is lost in this process. WestJet also spent a lot of
money for testing the system and training the employees well in advance however there was a high
risk of damaging the brand name since other surrounding issues such as website crashes made
customers angry and brought a bad reputation. After seeing what happened to WestJet, JetBlue faced a
similar risk of losing customers during the upgrade system however they had to incur costs to build up
a back up site. There s always a risk when customers don t like the upgraded system. It raises many
questions; What if the customers prefer the older system? Big losses can occur. However, on the other
side the upgrade can be efficient and if it works better than the previous version, it can lead to attract
more customers. 3. Classify and describe the problems each airline faced in implementing its new
reservation system. What people, organization, and technology factors caused those problems?
WestJet faced problems in transferring files containing data on transactions for customers who had
already purchased their tickets before the system upgrade. They could not access the passenger
bookings and this caused delays because it took time to transfer the files. Another problem they faced
was angry customers who flooded their site and

Fatigue can also be prevented by employing relaxation techniques in care settings. There should also
be proper screening techniques to understand the level of fatigue of particular nursing personnel on a
particular day and if needed she should be deployed in less critical units to avoid chances of errors.
This is because critical care patents often lack suitable coping strategies to combat the errors that
jeopardize their safety.
Healthcare Associated Infections
Healthcare Associated Infections not only impacts the patients who are admitted but also the care
providers who are deployed for providing care. The major healthcare associated infections are
nosocomial infections and transmission diseases like hepatitis A and B. Nosocomial infections are
hospital acquired infections and are mainly caused by gram negative organisms and methicilin
resistant staphylococcus. These are opportunistic pathogens and whenever a patient is febrile or
having a decreased immune function, these pathogens cause super infections that leads to increased
morbidity and mortality in patients. These pathogens may also infect health care providers who have a
compromised nutritional and immunological status and such individuals are readily attacked by these
pathogens. The major cause of their prevalence is under dosing of antibiotic regimes, improper asepsis
procedures in healthcare

It s wintertime and below zero degrees. The family is cuddling by the fire trying to warm themselves.
But, the only thing that provides contentment is the warm socks they received. The warm socks shield
their cold feet from the outside world. The poem, Ode To My Socks, expresses that feeling. The socks,
given to him from Maru Mori, are a comfort to the narrator. The narrator compares the socks to other
items that may bring warmth and happiness to a person. In the poem, Ode To My Socks, Pablo

The future appears in dark after Trump s presidency. With numerous allegations with the president s

The United States must realize the trend, and act accordingly to maintain soft power. With the Go
Green campaign, many corporations actively try shifting towards renewable technologies with
enhanced innovation. Kearns, a current director of Domestic Energy Policy at the Center for American
Progress, cites how technological progress often helps create opportunities for emissions reductions
and economic growth , which have created opportunities for customers to reduce energy use while
saving money . Reducing energy leads to better allocation of energy, to increase energy efficiency.
Energy efficiency is key to the success of the program, because the system provides safe economic
landing for a radical change from oil market to the renewables market. As time progresses in the next
five to ten years, the shift of fossil fuel based economy to renewables will in many ways damage the
international oil market, but the plan provides gradual develop to act as safe cushion for next future

through the public voluntary programs, the United States can better produce affordable, and effective
distribution for citizens to access.
Assuming affordable alternative energy source appears in few years, the United States can be the

Social Media Oxymoron
The Social Media Oxymoron Social Media might be the best worst thing to ever happen to our current
times. Social Media is defined as websites and applications that enable users to create and share
content or to participate in social networking. The premise of social media was to help young adults or
business owners to network in order to build a following. The term has become very broad in recent
times. For many, the term means social applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and
Snapchat. For others, the term is loosely interpreted as any site on the internet that people can
communicate on. Although the latter is technically true, we will interpret the term as being the social
applications. The advent of social media has caused both positive and negative developments on our
times. Social media has developed our times through the access to a multitude of information or news
and the access to people s personal lives. What is Social media? Social media is becoming an
important part of life online as social websites and applications generate more of a following. Most
social media sites include components, such as comment fields for users. In business, social media is
used to promote products, promote brands, connect to current customers and create new business.

The Brazilian Audit Committee
An Introduction to the Audit Committee
An audit committee is a subcommittee of the board of directors that oversees the financial reporting
process of a company including its audit procedures. In general, the audit committee s responsibilities
are to monitor the financial reporting process, oversee the internal control systems and to oversee the
internal audit and independent public accounting function (Doupnik Perera, 2012). Another
requirement for publicly traded companies in the United States is that the committee must be made up
of independent directors, meaning that no committee member can work for the company, with one
committee member being a financial expert in accounting and auditing.

Brazil s main stock exchange is the BM F Bovespa. It is located in Sao Paulo and was founded on
August 23, 1890. The mission of the BM F Bovespa is stated as follows: Public confidence in the
soundness of the capital markets and in the professional who work in those markets is an essential
component for continued vitality and growth. (BM F Bovespa, 2014) In the year 2000, in order to
further this mission BM F Bovespa created stock listing levels with increasingly strict corporate
governance and disclosure requirements. The listing levels are as follows: regular Bovespa, Level 1,

Brazilian law requires public companies to have a board of directors, with at least three members.
Firms that list on regular Bovespa, Level 2 or Novo Mercado must have at least 5 member boards.
Brazil has no legal requirements for board independence, but only one third of board members may be

The Existence Of Latin American Culture
The question of what exactly Latin American culture is was brought up very early in the text. Does
Latin American culture exist outside of the european spectrum it has been put in? Was there ever such
a thing as latin american culture in the first place?
Although this question sounds merely ignorant and condescending, it is in fact questioning the very
existence of Latin American people in what is now known as the American Continent.
According to Retamar, these questions of existence have to do with colonialism, neo colonialism and
imperialism. All three are used to suppress the voice and expression of people of color all throughout
the Americas causing a cultural hierarchy that does not express the true nature of Latin America and is

For Retamar, Sarmiento represents all of the pro United States, pro capitalist, ethnocentric, and racist
values that Martí opposes (25). Martí s vision of a mestizaje culture, on the other hand, is the only
authentic aesthetic for Latin America. Retamar goes further than Martí in his proposition: he argues
that the only way to realize this authentic mestizaje culture is through a socialist revolution: Our
culture is and can only be the child of revolution, of our multisecular rejection of all colonialisms (38).
Therefore, he views the Cuban Revolution as a great success despite its imperfect outcomes and as an
exemplary move for all of Latin America. For Retamar, the European educated elite is the bourgeoisie
while the mestizo population is the proletariat. While the bourgeoisie continues to hold a monopoly
over culture, the general population has no agency. Therefore, a socialist system is a way to ensure the
democratization of education and economic resources in order to reclaim culture for the

The History of the Seminole War in Florida
Throughout history there has been many wars that had taken place.
Wars happen because societies can come across conflict, different opinions, or simply people on
country may be interested in anothers land or resources. A war that can relate to this is the second
Seminole War which first began in the 19th century. This war started because of discrimination over
the Native American people and the drive to have them relocate for their land.
After many attempts and one war before the second seminole war America realized they really need to
demand changes and take action. The European Americans, American government and President
Andrew Jackson felt that it was necessary to relocate the Seminoles from North of Lake Okeechobee
to the west of the Mississippi river. The whites had intentions to remove all seminoles just so they can
have the rich soil. Andrew Jackson decided to take action and divide Florida into two counties.
What was once known to be West Florida was suddenly called Escambia county and what was once
known as Easy Florida was know St. Johns County. Andrew Jackson had suddenly left Pope DuVal to
be the Florida leader. Once he became the leader of florida, it was officially known as territory on
March, 30, 1822. When northern settlers started intertwining with the Seminoles they did not get
along. President Jackson felt it was best to relocate the Indians.

Regulatory
Regulations around food trucks can very wildly depending on locations. They must meet many similar
codes and regulations that restaurants do because of food safely laws( How to Start a Retail Food
Business ) . They must also be knowledgeable able of all of the local sanitation regulations. A lack of
regulations though is linked with a growth in the industry (Odendahl 2012). Vending laws also play a
big part, when and where can your truck operate? Your location influence this a lot. Liz Leslie (2013)

Economic
Food trucks are a step up from fast food and a notch below sit down restaurants. They can give what
many normal restaurants can t, affordability. They give what fast food cant t, healthy food. Food
trucks have turned out to be incredibly resilient to our suffering economy (Gaur 2013). Statistics and
numbers only confirm what we see on the streets, food trucks have come and will be staying; and
making a huge profit. IBISworlds Market research report shows just this in their SWOT analysis
The Street Vendors industry is in a growth phase of its life cycle. Over the 10 years to 2017, industry
value added (IVA), which measures an industry s contribution to GDP, will grow at an average annual
rate of 3.5%. By comparison, GDP is anticipated to grow at an annualized 2.1% over the same period.
If you read the entire report you can also find that in contradiction to what you might think with the
30,810 street vendor businesses in operation no one has any dominant share (Gaur 2013).
Food trucks not only have reasonable food prices, but reasonable prices to start one as well. They are
not the only ones to notice the economies influence on food trucks, Jane Seo who is writing her

gained supreme power by defeating Mark Antony. Mark Antony had been a close friend and relative to
them for a long time. Augustus and Mark Antony s relationship had began to deteriorate so he then
had given his sister to marry Mark Antony in hope to get their bond back. Then, Augustus thought that
Mark Antony had used his sister because he had divorced her and married Cleopatra. So therefore,

Comparing Candide And The Pursuit Of Happyness
The book and film that I have decided to compare are Candide written by Voltaire and The Pursuit of
Happyness, whose screenplay was done by Steven Conrad. The main characters in both The Pursuit of
Happyness and Candide have a very optimistic view of the world and are searching for their own ideas
of true happiness but they both go about it in two very different ways. By the end of the book and film
each character learns what it takes for them to reach their own version of the pursuit of happiness.
Although each character finds happiness in their own way their main goals of finding out how to live a
truly happy life are the same. In Candide and the Pursuit of Happyness, the main characters, Candide

The character Candide tries to find his happiness through the materialistic things in the world because
he believes that that s what s going to make him happy, The first day of their journey was rather
pleasant. They were heartened by the thought that they now possessed more treasure than all of Asia,
Europe and Africa could assemble (Voltaire Pg.67). Candide thinks that if he has lots of money then
somehow his life will be so much better altogether, but Candide realizes that money is something that
can go away just as fast as it came. Just because money can buy you a lot of things its not going to
necessarily make your life a happier one. Money is something that can bring you joy but it isn t going
to bring your true happiness. Joy is one of those things that s there for a little bit but it can be taken
away very easily, true happiness on the other hand is something that stays with you. While Candide
looks to materialistic things for happiness Chris uses the motivation to be a good father to his son to
find his own happiness. Christopher Gardner: You gotta trust me, all right? Christopher: I trust you.

The Day Of My Day
WOO HOO! MRJEFF exclaimed. He had just found a $100 dollar bill soaked into the ground. He
picked it up and kept walking to work. It was the early morning, the frost was still nipping at his skin
and the sun was barely creeping its way over the mountains to the west. Today MRJEFF felt
surprisingly happy today. Normally he was always unhappy as his full name was MRJEFF Jeff. He
was always being made fun of even as an adult. He arrived at work and all his co workers greeted him
sarcastically.
Hey Mr. MRJEFF Jeff they all said one after another like a broken record. Later that day he left work
and started his walk home. On his way home he saw a homeless man slumped against a red brick wall
off to the side of the road. Unfortunately the only cash he had with him was the $100 from that
morning. He handed the bill to the grubby man.
Thank you so much! he happily said as he hugged MRJEFF.
You are very welcome
This made my day. MRJEFF then continued on his way home. Stopping periodically to pet dogs, tie
his shoes, etc. He stopped at a gas station and bought a scratch ticket. He pulled a coin out of his old,
worn out, leather wallet and proceeded to scratch the thin silver layer off the stiff piece of laminated
paper. One king, probably just one of these he thought to himself. Two kings, wow, that s probably all
that i ll get. He started scratching the third slot. The first thing he saw was the shining from the king s

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Textual Passwords
The system and information security is most important factor for security program and the major
security method for information and system security is authentication[1]. The authentication is widely
used for verifying the identity of a particular person. The most popular authentication method is
password authentication. In this, textual(alphanumeric) passwords are mostly used as traditional
method. These types of textual passwords are strings of letters and digits. But there are several
deficiencies in these textual passwords such as passwords used are short and simple which are easy to
remember[2].So textual passwords can be personal names of family members, dictionary words, birth
date, pet name, phone number etc.and vulnerable to various attacks like dictionary attack, easy to
guess etc.[3][4]
Mostly users require the passwords for personal computers, social networks, email and more, and for
all these systems. For easy remembrance the users use the same password which reduces security[5].
Hence if textual passwords are kept difficult then they are difficult to remember and if it is easily kept
then they are easy to guess. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Brady s Legacy
Well Rich, to begin, what makes someone great? What separates the ordinary from the spectacular?
Most importantly, how do you determine the greatest to ever do it? There s a reason why it holds such
a special and important meaning when in conversation relating to sports. There is no more deeply
discussed and talked about topic in the world of sports than the G.O.A.T discussion. The reason is
because it is such a controversial and subjective topic. Very few have undisputedly reached greatest of

displayed a remarkable career, Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Junior hit the final nail in the coffin on
that warm Sunday night in Houston and cemented his legacy among the best to ever do it. Having

his unrivalled success that much more impressive and tantalizing. Tom Brady was selected 199th

Frankenstein s monster begins his life full of hope, displaying care for other people and a desire for
knowledge despite the abandonment and confusion he feels. Somewhere along the road of his life,
however, the creature s pain and loneliness damage his internal being with violent results. At what
point did the dark forces of his outside world become too much to endure? Could he have ignored his
reality and continued to live in hope of a better time? Furthermore, how can we apply the creature s
struggle to humanity?
Circumstances or events in a person s life can affect him or her in a multitude of ways and at a
multitude of times. At the beginning of the book, Frankenstein s monster is alone and confused, and
yet he feels nothing but a desire to live fully and with a good heart. The creature s explanation is
simple: As yet I looked upon crime as a distant evil; benevolence and generosity were ever present
before me, inciting within me a desire to become an actor in the busy scene where so many admirable
qualities are called forth and displayed (130). The creature is referring to his time watching the
cottagers, whom he observed and admired from afar for a time at the beginning of his life. He sees
only the good in these people and thus looks on the world and his life from a positive point of view.
He claims that crime was but a distant

The Modernist Attributes of C.L.R. James’s Minty Alley...
The Modernist Attributes of C.L.R. James s Minty Alley
Born in Trinidad and later expatriating himself first to London and then the United States, C.L.R.
James was a key figure of the West Indian literary scene during the 1930s. Today he is primarily
associated with his nonliterary writings in sociology and politics, and his fiction seems to have
dropped from critical attention. Part of this shortsightedness stems from the fact that little of his fiction
is readily available to a reading public in this country. Although a selection of his shorter work is now
available in The C.L.R. James Reader (1992), the only extant edition of James novel Minty Alley
(1936) is published by the small London press New Beacon Books. Because of its ... Show more

In part, my desired shift of critical focus is a response against the predominant tendency in Anglo
American literary studies of underestimating the formal experimentation of early twentieth century
Caribbean writing. Critics tend to construct narratives in which British, American, and continental
European writers set the standard for and carry out the work of producing modernist experimentation.
Those few critics who have turned their attention to James fiction continue to follow suit of this
general critical trend. Paget Henry and Paul Buhle have remarked that this author s value lies in his
status as an anti colonial writer, an identity that they believe to be affirmed by Minty Alley because of
the careful artistic representation [that it] gives to the lives of working class Trinidadians and its
affirmation of the creative self projections that such individuals established in relation to their world
(122). James did envision his novel as a populist one, affirming his own mothers s adage that [t]o
write forblack people in the Caribbean was a distinction (James interviewedin Henry and Buhle 57).
But does its accessibility to a contemporary audience preclude the incorporation of experimental
elements? Aldon Lynn Nielsen, a prominent promoter of James s workin this country, perpetuates the
mythos that modernist

The Sustainability Website, And There Are Some Positive...
I have recently reviewed the UMass sustainability website, and there is some positive things that I
have seen. There are also some things that could be improved upon. I will be discussing a number of
different issues regarding communication of sustainability, and how UMass appears to be approaching
those issues, as well as ways to improve our initiative.
To begin with I would like to state that there is a difference between the dominant and ecological
paradigm in the context of the sustainability initiative. The dominate paradigm is what values in a
society that are most standard and widely held. Dominant paradigms are shaped both by the
community s cultural background. The ecological paradigm sees the current dominant paradigm as ...

If what they say in their first statement is true, this is a good step. Exploring and communicating ways
to improve upon our communities practices, ideas, and technologies would fall into the new ecological
paradigm. It would be an attempted to shift away from the dominant unsustainable paradigm. The next
point mentioned in the mission statement is We educate the campus community to create a healthier
and more responsible environment . Education of a community is how a paradigm shift will happen.
Education about what is unsustainable, why being unsustainable is harmful, and how to become more
sustainable is absolutely vital in order to shift a community s thoughts, ideas, and behaviors. Next the
mission statement says that We develop progressive solutions to reduce negative environmental
impacts in ways that are economically beneficial . Solutions to reduce negative environmental impacts
are what is needed in order to change from unsustainable to sustainable. Understanding problems won
t help unless solutions to those problems are known. Lastly, the mission statement says that We create
and consistently advocate for a diverse inclusive culture of sustainability throughout the campus
community and beyond . By trying to create and advocate a culture of sustainability, they are also
trying to shift the paradigms from the dominate to ecological. Based on the information provided by
the mission statements, I would have to say

The Mentally Ill O FF Ender Treatment And Crime Reduction...
The Mentally Ill Offender Treatment and Crime Reduction Act of 2004: Problems and Prospects by
Christine M. Litschgea and Michael G. Vaughn, is a research article whose focus is three fold. First,
the researchers reviewed the literature available on the components that have influenced the
considerable increases of incarcerated persons with severe mental illness (SMI). Secondly, they
analyzed the Mentally Ill Offender Treatment and Crime Reduction Act of 2004 (MIOTCRA), and
evaluated if, since its inception, has reduced the problems associated with incarcerated persons with
SMI. Thirdly, they offered recommendations about policy improvements; how to decrease the number

Lastly, they propose recommendations, these are based on the outcome of their reviews and analyses,
which include: effecting and requiring enforcement of policies already in existence, decreasing the
number of individuals with untreated SMI by changing outpatient commitment specifications, which
would require close monitoring of patients compliance with treatment, thus reducing the overall
number of SMI individuals becoming involved in the criminal justice system at all. They also
recognized the need for evidence based programs, and additional research to investigate the actual
effectiveness of MHC s and public mental health services.
Analysis and Evaluation
The issue chosen by the researchers, is a relevant issue facing the criminal justice system. The
predominance of mental health problems among incarcerated persons in both prisons and jails present
major problems for each component of the criminal justice system; law enforcement, courts, and
corrections. The entire criminal justice system is negatively impacted and overburdened by untreated
mental illness. According to Bureau of Justice Statistics, more than half of all prison and jail inmates
have a mental health problem (James Glaze, 2006).

The Avatar Is The Ideal Version Of Oneself
SIMS is a fan favorite video game, where an avatar can be created that is the ideal version of oneself.
The avatar can marry, have a family, land a dream job, and if the individual is so inclined, the avatar
can even kill. As SIMs demonstrates, humans can currently create avatars to do out bidding, to behave
as some aspect of the individual s personality wishes it could do. While this creative process is limited
to video games, the theoretical process suggests that an alternative or parallel reality exists where an
individual can live through another person, in a separate field from his or her actual physical being. In
this other reality, the individual can be who he or she wants to be and behave however they choose,
with the goal of living out their most intimate desires, good or bad. Such is the plot of Being John
Malkovich, whereby Craig, a puppeteer who lives his fantasies through his puppets, ultimately finds a
portal that allows him to live through and control the actor, John Malkovich. Panopticism is a central
theme in Being John Malkovich; Panopticism is a mechanism for gaining power and keeping it, where
criminals who are constantly under surveillance, internalize fear and involuntarily take into their mind
the concepts of the authority figure. Such a mechanism allows power to easily by disseminated
without being weakened. Being John Malkovich demonstrates the idea of panopticism by portraying

Exchange Traded Funds
Internationally, the flow of capital across national borders and into markets once believed to be
impregnable is occurring at the speed of light. Technological innovation, accessibility to international
market economies, and increased globalization has expanded the universe of securities available for
investments and more importantly portfolio diversification. The developments mentioned above
questions traditionally accepted principles by investors who believed that investing solely in U.S.
securities would result in a better risk return tradeoff. Prudent investors have known that diversifying
across industries and markets will lead to a given level of expected return at a significantly lower level
of risk, and vice versa. However, the advantages of such diversification are limited due to the same
cyclical economic fluctuations that all assets (or companies) in a particular country are exposed to.
The availability of a universe of assets internationally, and accessibility to these assets and the markets
where they trade has opened a plethora of opportunities to investors across borders who seek
diversification accompanied by return maximization and corresponding risk reduction through
international portfolio investments. Moreover, the limiting effects of economic cycles on assets in a
particular country can now be hedged through international portfolio formation and investing that
incorporates the advantage of cross country diversification in nations whose economic cycles

Managing innovation effectively can turn companies around dramatically, allowing companies to be
ahead of its competitors. Introducing new technologies and products will help businesses attract
customers and provide a unique selling point. It can also help cut costs along with raising profits.
Effective innovation allows for new opportunities and may lead companies getting a larger market
share and may even break companies into new markets. Good innovation can also increase employee
motivation and moral creating an efficient working environment.
However having a good idea doesn t mean a company is innovative, making the idea work effectively
so that it brings value to the business is successful innovation. Furthermore innovation can also
propose risks and if not carefully executed innovation may harm the business. New ideas need to be
carefully executed after in depth research, if this is not done correctly a new idea is likely to fail
incurring unnecessary costs and falling profits. It may also result in competitors taking advantage of a
failed idea making a business vulnerable losing its clients as they may begin to look elsewhere.
Ultimately innovation is very important it is a strategy that needs to be implemented with a lot of
thought and analysis.

The Church Went Through A Period Of Cruel Persecution
INTRODUCTION
The Church went through a period of cruel persecution under various Roman Empire emperors prior
to the 4th century. The church also had to go through the issue with heretics inside the church. During
this crucial period in church history, one of the important theological and ecclesiastical question
concerned Christology. Christology deals with the life of Jesus Christ. One bishop, Arius, taught that
Jesus was not God the Son. God providentially sent a man, St. Athanasius, to defend the Lord s
church. St. Athanasius, bishop of Alexandria, became an important figure in church history. The
cconflict with Arius and the successive Roman emperors shaped Athanasius s ministry career. Why is
Athanasius important for the life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His work affects issues in the church today. For example, The Jehovah s Witnesses, in their rejection
of the deity of Christ and the doctrine of the Trinity, not only follow in the footsteps of Arius, but hold

Alexandria was a leading commercial and cultural center in the Mediterranean world, second only to
Rome itself . ...Alexandria became a great Christian learning center, the home of the great catechetical
school of Christian instruction... this is the place where Athanasius would get his education. More
importantly, The background to the conflict lay in the church of Alexandria .
St. Athanasius was born around the year AD 297 to a Christian family in the city of Alexandria. His
parents were wealthy enough to afford giving him a fine secular education. At the young age of 10
years old, in A.D. 306, there was a baptism ritual with other children. Playing the part of a church
official, he baptized one of the children during this sacrament of baptism. He impressed the bishop of
Alexandria, Alexander, which he became one of his disciples.
He writes his treaties to Macarius, true lover of Christ. In 318 Athanasius wrote his most famous
work, De Incarnatione Verbi (On the Incarnation of the Word ), which shows the influence of Irenaeus
and Origen; the incarnate Logos was divine and restored

  • 2. Sociological Influences On Life Every individual person in this world has many different sociological influences on their life. All varying from education, religion, friends, and even the workplace. Some people may have a ton of things that influence their lives and others may only have a few, all depending on that individual. In my life particularly, the three biggest societal influences are education, family, and lastly my extracurricular activities. Education can be a huge part in some cultures, when it can also be a very small part in some cultures. Our American culture education is huge. Kids spend their lives in school from when they are four years old in preschool until they are 18 years as a senior in highschool. Those years are all spent six hours a day five days a week throughout the year. After high school people have the option to continue their education and go to college if they would prefer to. College may go upwards to 12 more years depending on the degree that certain individual is pursuing. In our American Culture it is bad if you don t have a college degree. People tend to think that people that don t continue to go to college are not as intelligent when really they could be just as smart as anyone else. There are well over 20 prominent nations, which continue to discriminate against females by preventing them from learning. In these countries, gender inequality in education not only stifles the development of women, but also their sense of self worth. In Nepal, only seven percent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Poverty In Ayesha Says, By William Jaco It s no secret that poverty affects minorities not only here in America but abroad as well. Our inner cities see the blunt of legal system; with African American males incarcerated at a rate of 4,347 per 100,000 as of 2010(Shaefer Wu Edin 89) . Ayesha Jaco, sister to rapper Lupe fiasco, wrote the spoken word poem Ayesha Says to shed light on injustices of a system that overwhelmingly affects minorities. Ayesha s poem directly addresses issues that have been not only plaguing the black community, but also compares the poverty we see here with the poverty we seen in conflict ridden countries. Things like police brutality and the school to prison pipeline leading to mass incarcerations of minorities overall, poverty and how it systematically affects minorities, and how people of all races and creeds are coming together to fight these injustices. She reflects on how these things impact communities and force a season of change among the people afflicted. Ayesha s starting lines Englewood or Egypt, Bedstuy or Baghdad...the west bank or the westside of Chicago(Ayesha) , alludes to comparisons between impoverished nations overseas to impoverished areas of our country that generally occupied by minorities. This gets the ball rolling on the crux of problems that people in the ghetto face, poverty being one of them. One of these results of poverty that Ayesha mentions are that of food deserts. Wright defines Food Deserts , low income communities with a poverty rate of 20% or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Womanhood In Pop Culture American media is a powerful shaping force in developing values and behavior. As an institution, the media wields the power to form, reinforce and dismantle gender ideologies (Stillman 51) which have long lasting and negative results. Both magazines and television reflect behaviors, such as gossip and sexual behaviors, already present within American culture (Stillman 52, MacKay and Covell 573), but the media also creates new patterns of behavior that are then flooded into popular culture. Some of the most common matters that the media creates and then floods into American culture are: fashion trends, new phrases and other consumer oriented products. Because media within the United States is so readily available to the people, it is nearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the United States, many people s behavior and thoughts on daily life are based on what is being presented in television, young women especially. The images and realities being displayed on American television contradicts Biblical womanhood by targeting specific virtues of Biblical women and highlighting opposite characteristics. A specific contradiction to Biblical womanhood presented often on television is gossip. The Bible teaches that women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers (Titus 2:3). When the Biblical teaching against gossip is ignored by the media, the destructive behavior of gossip and slander spreads violently among the women who watch television shows in which gossip is prevalent. Gossip and slander lead to relational aggression among women, especially those who are bombarded with images of women engaging in gossip and slander on television constantly (Goldberg, Smith Adcock and Dixon 379). Because the Biblical teaching against gossip is unheeded, relational aggression among women due to gossip and slander has become an accepted part of life. That is to say, hostile behavior among women is now considered to be normal as a result of the relationally aggressive images presented on television. Television ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I was on my way to see my friends when I stumbled and got mugged. Turns out I got to what looks to be a abandoned warehouse of some kind. When I woke up there was a man about 6 4 and looked to be 240 pounds give or take and then I asked. What do you want . I will torture you without mercy so you will wish you never left your house, said The Night Killer. I know what you do, you torture then kill people, I have seen it on the T.V. Then I realized that there were ceiling tiles so if I can move on and get it so I am in the ceiling that would be amazing because I can escape. The next thing I hear was the sounds of police sirens and I thought they were getting close but they were going on a high speed chase. I was happy then quickly turned to sadness because I realized I would die in a ceiling if I could even get up there. The next task that i wanted to accomplish was to get my body in the ceiling then use a piece of ceiling tile to hopefully get a piece so it can flip up so I can go back out of the room. • 6. Post-Communist Transition Economies Touched by the Euro... The focus of this paper is on post communist transition economies touched by the Euro Zone crisis. The negative influence it has made to economic dynamics was felt by everyone living in Central and Eastern Europe. Despite the actual collapse of some economies in Central and Eastern Europe, lower standards of living in parts of the region, protests and social anxiety, little attention was paid to the crisis and the recession in the post communist countries that joined the European Union in 2004 and 2007. With their currencies, banking systems and economies on the verge of collapse of the Republic of the Baltic Sea, formerly known as Baltic Tigers , were affected by the crisis in the form of the sharpest in the whole European Union. The deeper integration of these economies into the global market and full integration into the world economy (and the EU in particular) meant that these countries have become much more vulnerable to the crisis and recession. The foundations of the weakness were in the broad assimilation of neoliberal policies of the economies of Central and Eastern Europe, high dependence on investment and, in particular, in their specific exposure to the operation of international finance. In the second part of the essay I would like to recall the examples of successful and unsuccessful companies operating in European Union. The positive Unfortunately the collapse of Malev Hungarian Airlines, who has ended its operations in the beginning of 2012, was mostly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Who would be the owner of the telemedicine application? The owner of the telemedicine application would, in this case, be the OR director, as that department will be the primary owner and user of the application. Rinehart Thompson (2013), identifies the owner of major applications to be the director of the department that will be the primary user of the application. What type of threats might be identified? Threats can come in many different forms, human and nonhuman. Some can cause harm, while others can cause no harm. After seeing what happened to WestJet, JetBlue faced a similar risk of losing customers during the upgrade system however they had to incur costs to build up a back up site. There s always a risk when customers don t like the upgraded system. It raises many questions; What if the customers prefer the older system? Big losses can occur. However, on the other side the upgrade can be efficient and if it works better than the previous version, it can lead to attract more customers. 3. WestJet faced problems in transferring files containing data on transactions for customers who had already purchased their tickets before the system upgrade. My goal in this paper is to define the true meaning of Aloha ʻĀina, talk about the Aloha ʻĀina movement, and help others understand why this term is so important to Hawaii. Kearns, a current director of Domestic Energy Policy at the Center for American Progress, cites how technological progress often helps create opportunities for emissions reductions and economic growth , which have created opportunities for customers to reduce energy use while saving money . Reducing energy leads to better allocation of energy, to increase energy efficiency. Energy efficiency is key to the success of the program, because the system provides safe economic landing for a radical change from oil market to the renewables market. • 19. Social Media Oxymoron The Social Media Oxymoron Social Media might be the best worst thing to ever happen to our current times. Social Media is defined as websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. The premise of social media was to help young adults or business owners to network in order to build a following. The term has become very broad in recent times. For many, the term means social applications such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. For others, the term is loosely interpreted as any site on the internet that people can communicate on. Although the latter is technically true, we will interpret the term as being the social applications. The advent of social media has caused both positive and negative developments on our times. Social media has developed our times through the access to a multitude of information or news and the access to people s personal lives. What is Social media? After many attempts and one war before the second seminole war America realized they really need to demand changes and take action. The European Americans, American government and President Andrew Jackson felt that it was necessary to relocate the Seminoles from North of Lake Okeechobee to the west of the Mississippi river. The whites had intentions to remove all seminoles just so they can have the rich soil. Andrew Jackson decided to take action and divide Florida into two counties.
