The Decision Struck Down A Statute
In 1976, by a 7 2 decision, the Court adopted an intermediate level of review for gender
classifications in the case Craig v. Boren. The decision struck down a statute that allowed women
over the age of eighteen to purchase beer but only men over the age of twenty one. Using this
intermediate scrutiny, the Court has invalidated gendersegregation across the board. However,
while this heightened level of scrutiny has drastically helped women, it has not been equal in its
effect on men. Since Craig, the Court has upheld a requirement that only men register for the draft
(Rostker v. Goldberg) and a statutory rape law where only adult men were punished for having sex
with an underage individual of the opposite sex (Michael M. v. Superior Court). While these cases
occurred in the 80s, this trend of favoring women over men in gender discriminationcases has
continued, especially in regards to administrative law and protection. Recent Supreme Court cases
reveal that men are still being unfavorably ruled against over women, leading one to believe a push
for strict scrutinyis key in bridging that gap and implementing a federal statute that all States must
obey in order to ensure gender equality is achieved on both sides of the spectrum.
Beginning in the 70s, even before the decision of Craig, one is able to notice a trend of men
seeming to fail where women have strived in court. A notable case is Frontiero v. Richardson which
involved a lieutenant of the United States Air Force

Small Town Essay

This Small Town Means Business: Improving Local Economy When you grow up in a small town
the one thing that is the most difficult to withstand is boredom. At least, that s how it is for the
youth of the area. However, when you look at it from an older and more mature perspective you
might realize that the main issue with some small towns is job availability, as well as the town s
revenue for different projects, etc. Recently my hometown has been undertaking a few different
projects that will really benefit the area and it s economy. The youth league softball program has
grown tremendously within the past few years. Due to that improvement, Sallisaw was chosen to
host a state tournament. Which was wonderful until we realized that our softball complex was not
best suited for a tournament of this magnitude. This is when talk began on building an entirely new
sports complex for all of the youth league sports in the area. One other issue arose through hosting
this tournament. Out of sixty three teams who were in the tournament last summer, only one team
stayed in Sallisaw. The rest of the teams were sent to stay in hotels here in Fort Smith, all because
the hotels that are located in Sallisaw did not have an indoor swimming pool. The teams would
rather make a thirty minute commute than stay in a hotel that does not have a swimming pool. The
next project Sallisaw is undertaking is bringing in a well known hotel

Factors Influencing Labor Productivity On Building...
Chapter 1: Introduction
Need of the project
Productivity in construction is broadly outlined as output per labor hour. Labor Productivity in any
construction project is units of work placed or produced per labor hour, which directly influences
the total project cost, completion time period and project quality. Hence, it is very crucial for us to
have in detail information of the factors which positively or negatively influences the productivity
so that we can take required action to mitigate the negative effects and reinforce the positive effects.
Moreover, aluminum formwork is the dynamic evolution the construction industry which has been
adopted for advanced construction in various segments, hence its productivity is of utmost
important for its complete acceptance in the industry. This research will focus on determining the
factors which changes the output given by the laborers working with aluminum formwork. This
will help in enhancing the physical progress of the project by applying the tool or remedy
subjected to a particular factor.
Project Objective
The aim of this analysis is to identify factors influencing labor productivity in building construction
with attention on formwork operations and to understand its variations attributable in direct impact
on labor productivity. This research focuses on determining the relationship between various
attributes which effect labor productivity by collecting real time responses from job site. It is to be
done by taking

How Did Antoine Lavoisier Contribute To The Conservation...
One important contribution that Antoine Lavoisier made to chemistry was the conservation of
mass. In France, the law of conservation of mass is commonly referred to as Lavoisier s Law
showing the lasting impression that he made on the world of chemistry (Donovan, 2017). The law,
in its entirety, envelopes the ideas that matter can be transformed from one form to another,
mixtures can be separated or developed, and pure substances can be broken down, but the mass will
always remain constant (World of Chemicals, 2017). The law was first identified in the TraitГ©
Г©lГ©mentaire de Chimie, a book that incorporated the foundations of modern chemistryin 1789
(American Chemical Society, 1999). Originally, the law of conservation of mass was an assumption

Analysis Of Where There s Smoke Theres Fire Patterson
Where there s smoke there s fire by Russell Patterson
Russell Patterson (December 26, 1893 March 17, 1977) was a celebrated and prolific American
cartoonist, illustrator. Patterson s art helped develop and promote the idea of fashion style
known as the flapper in the 1920s and 1930s. Flappers had their own hairstyles and ways of
dressing, especially bobbed hair and short skirts. Flappers were a sign of changing times and
more freedom for women to express themselves. The message that he is trying to express is how
women new looks, jobs, and lifestyle were changing dramatically. His painting shows how women
are feeling more confident about themselves, and start to go outside and have fun rather than
staying at home all day and do the work.
Where there s smoke there s fire by Russell Patterson was painted in 1920s. He used water color on
an illustration board, and it is 45.1 cm by 59.2 cm. The painting has a fashionably dressed flapper
with one hand on her hip and the other hand is holding the cigarette. She has a classic bobbed
hair that all the flapper girls have. The girl is wearing a sexy white dress with pointed high heels.

By doing this, he creates movement of the smoke because it controls the viewer s eyes and

create a contrast between the two. Russell also uses positive space on his painting because when
the background is dark, the space of a shape will stand out. The flapper in the painting also wearing
a white skirt, so it makes her will be the subject matter. The emphasis in the painting is definitely the
young woman because the background is just black and bland, while the young woman is being

Legalization Of Alcohol
The Legalization of Alcohol throughout the U.S. has been a social injustice issue in today s society.
Some issues throughout the time is that when people drink, their minds don t cooperate with their
bodies in result of getting drunk, having health issues, having violent tendencies, and also can kill
you faster than any other drugs including marijuana which is an illicit THC drug that comes from
the hemp plant affecting people differently around certain areas of the brain. During Prohibition
around 1920, Crimes increased, because illegal activity was required to sell illegal alcohol. Criminal
activity became organized and led to the rise of powerful crime syndicates that involved murder,
and the bribery of public officials and law... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another issue surrounded with legalizing Alcohol is the drinking age limit. Currently the legal
drinking age for beer and wine is 18 and liquor is 21 for the U.S. Simply that has a huge effect and
a big impact on underage drinkers. According to the 11 Facts About Teens and
Alcohol. In 2012, nearly 72% of students have consumed alcohol by the end of high school, and
more than 37% have done so towards the end of 8th grade. Underage drinkers account for 12%
of all of the alcohol consumed in the U.S. The average age teen boys first try alcohol is age 11,
for teen girls it s 13. Nearly 10 million young people, ages 12 to 20, reported that they ve
consumed alcohol in the past 30 days. Teens who start drinking before age 15 years are 5 times
more likely to develop alcohol dependence or abuse later in life than those who begin drinking at
or after the legal age of 21. In 2010, there were approximately 200,000 emergency rooms visits by
teens under age 21 for injuries and other conditions linked to alcohol. Teens who drink heavily are
three times more likely to try and hurt themselves than those who don t drink. The worst part when

Ottoman Disadvantages and its Implications on The Siege of...
Under Suleiman the Magnificent the Ottoman Empire was a force to be reckoned with, it ruled
the Middle East and Suleiman was quickly realizing his goal of advancing into Europe. However
in 1529 a major military upset in the Austrian city of Vienna would halt the Islamic Ottoman
expansion and save Europe from the possibility of Ottoman control. However this might not had
been the case if it were not for several key disadvantages the Ottoman Empirehad against the
Viennese. Suleiman the Magnificents defeat during the siege of Vienna, 1529, was caused by poor
weather conditions, chaos and disorganization amongst the Ottoman ranks, and a much stronger
Viennese defense than was anticipated.

This divided Hungary into two states, Royal Hungary and Ottoman Hungary, this division lasted
until 1700.
In the spring of 1529 Suleiman the Magnificent began to construct his massive army in Ottoman
Bulgaria, his objective is to conquer and secure control over all of Hungary and eliminate the
threat posed by Ferdinand I and the Holy Roman Empire. Estimates of the size of Suleiman s army
vary vastly from around 100,000 men to well over 300,000. The army also consisted of many units
of Sapahi, the elite Ottoman Calvary, and thousands and thousands of Janissaries, an extremely well
trained Ottoman fighting force. With such a vast group moving all at once there were certain
inherent difficulties the Ottomans faced. The biggest of these would be the sheer chaos caused by
the disorganization. Desertion was particularly rampant amongst the Ottoman forces and with the
disorganization it was nearly impossible to properly distribute resources, malnourishment was a big
problem because of the difficulty of acquiring food. This would mark a major disadvantage of the
Ottoman morale; it diminished their will to fight, and thus, their will to win.
Suleiman launched his campaign on May 10th, because this was so late in the year, the weather
was almost immediately a problem. The spring rains associated with that area of Europe caused
flooding and bridge wash outs were very common, this barley allowed to troops to leave

Government in Upper and Lower Canada
The need for government reform in Upper and Lower Canada was created because of the
incompetent way the government managed the country, a lack of representation in the government,
a lack of understanding of the colonist s in Upper and Lower Canada, and discrimination towards
the French in Lower Canada. Numerous colonists arrived to Upper and Lower Canadato begin a
new life with a proper government however, the government in Canada did not satisfy their
needs. Firstly, the unskilled way the government ran Upper and Lower Canada upset the
colonists. This included a lack of land for the colonists, even though they were promised land
when they arrived in British North America. Settlers were unhappy about land distribution
particularly about the clergy and crown reserves and the land speculators that were part of the
Family Compact. Also, absentee landlords overpriced and tied up prime land. The settlers were
also unhappy that the building of roadways was hindered by the clergy and crown reserves. The
colonists were unhappy with the government and the colonists complained loudly about land and
roads. Most knew that the Family Compact was to blame and they did not disguise their anger (Pg.
66). This meant that the colonists were aware that the Family Compact was responsible for this
problem because they completely ignored the colonist s complaints and they did not do anything to
help them. They could veto any laws passed by the Assembly and they did; they shut down

Compare And Contrast The Devil s Arithmetic Book And Book
The devil s arithmetic book by Jane Yolen and the movie by Dustin Hoffman are very similar to
each other. They both tell the story of a young girl who is transported through time to the 1940 s to
learn what it s like to live through the era of the holocaust after she ignores her family heritage. She
then dies in that time at the hands of the Nazis and learns why she must remember and tell the
future generation about the holocaust. These stories are the same but told in different ways and in
different forms.

Definition Of A Modern Hero In Beowulf
The Anglo Saxons were one of the first groups of people to use and write the English language
and settled in what is now Great Britain. The Anglo Saxons wrote many epics depicting what they
thought heroes were, but is their definition of a hero the same as our own? A good example of an
Anglo Saxon hero is Beowulf, he travelled to Denmark with a group of warriors to fight a monster
named Grendelthat was terrorizing a city, he also killed Grendel s mother and a dragon to save the
people in the city. He may seem like a modern hero, he s saving the people in danger, he shows
leadership, and has the bravery to do so, but there are distinct differences between the Anglo Saxon
hero and a modern hero and those differences also show up in Beowulf.... Show more content on

That quote expresses the biggest difference between the Anglo Saxon hero and the modern hero,
in this story the only thing that Beowulf cares about is if he becomes famous. Since Fame and
glory is all that matters to Beowulf he is shown to be especially selfish and cold hearted, a trait
that most modern hero s don t show. The last reason Beowulf isn t considered a modern hero is
because he is materialistic. At the end of the story when Beowulf is killed by the giant dragon
he is sealed in a tower with all of his riches Then the Geats built the tower, as Beowulf had
asked... And the riches he and Wiglaf had won from the dragon, rings, necklaces, ancient,
hammered armor all the treasures they d taken were left there, too. (843 852). This quote shows
that Beowulf wanted his people to erect a tower in his name and put him in it just so he could
be buried with his spoils of war, his lust for gold and materials is yet another example of why he
isn t a modern hero. What it means to be a hero has changed profoundly over time, a hero to the
Anglo Saxons are fame driven, materialistic, arrogant people whose only goal is to be talked
about for centuries. The modern hero is also all of those traits, but they tend to not express it as
much and try to seem as selfless as possible. A modern hero is supposed to be a person who

Elephant and Rhino Comparison
The white rhinoceros and the Asian elephant possess many similar characteristics, including the
way they look, yet also possess many differences such as the two continents they live on. There are
five living species of rhino (black, white, Indian, Javan and Sumatran) and only two of the elephant
(African and the Asian). All are in jeopardy of extinction with their slow rate of breeding, poaching
and in the rhinoceroses, their territorial behavior.
Both of these beasts belong to the same kingdom (Animalia), phylum (Chordata), sub phylum

Jane Eyre And Great Expectations
Jane Eyre Great Expectations Comparative Essay
The novels Jane Eyre and Great Expectations both take place in a capitalist society. Marx s
fundamental ideas are prevalent in both novels. Karl Marx is a German philosopher who
challenged capitalism with the creation of communism. Marx s most essential and recognized
beliefs are that class creates conflict, modern work is alienating, and class struggle is at the heart
of the society. He also believes that individuals affected by capitalism are often rugged, which he
describes as putting self interest above the needs of the community. (Tyson 60). In Jane Eyre, Jane
questions other characters beliefs on Marxism throughout the novel. In Great Expectations,
characters challenge Pip on his Marxist beliefs. Therefore, throughout the use of interclass
relationships, classism and rugged individualism, readers are able to observe how Jane challenges
others Marxist beliefs and other characters challenge Pip s Marxist beliefs.
In the novel Jane Eyre, we re able to see how interclass relationships of all kinds were frowned
upon within society. Jane is in love with her master, Mr. Rochester who comes from a much higher
social class than her. though rank and wealth sever us widely, I have something in my brain and
heart, in my blood and nerves, that assimilates me mentally to him . (BrontГ« 332) Marx s idea
that class struggle is at the heart of society is evident because the class differences between Jane

Large Universities Vs. Small Universities . To Put It Quite
Large Universities vs. Small Universities To put it quite frankly, college searches are daunting for
students, parents, and even guidance counselors. With a plethora of universities offering a vast
variety of courses and degrees available, searching for one to settle down on can easily become a
quagmire for some. One of the biggest decisions to be made in this situation is the size of the
university. Although at first glance it may seem like a negligible detail, in fact, it can make or
break a student s collegeexperience. Large colleges have an incredible amount of majors to offer
students, while smaller ones may not have as many, yet find a way to tailor to individual students.
By that same token, large universities can have several... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The difference, besides the point that the University of Central Florida is more like Blue
Mountain State than a true institution, is that the University of Central Florida offers over 100
majors, ranging from real estate, to theatre studio management track, all the way to
biotechnology. Yale, on the other hand, only had 53 majors as of 2015. Therefore, as a student
who has groundwork all laid out, it may be easier to go to a school where their major even
exists, whereas an undeclared student would perhaps prefer a school with limited yet welcoming
options. Smaller universities, although having limited options also may offer the idea of
independent study or may tailor a major towards a small group of students with a specific subject
matter in mind something far from possible in an enormous school. In fact, Yale s undergraduate
page reads, Not yet sure what you want to do with your life? Don t worry. You have time. Most
Yale students wait until sophomore year before declaring a major. Therefore proving the idea that a
smaller school allows more academic freedom for students, which may be important to some. With
many majors, it is not surprising that larger universities are given more updated research facilities
and more research funding than a smaller school. On the contrary, reputable universities (such as
John Hopkins, Yale, Amherst College, MIT, the standard miracle schools) are given more credit in

Belongingness is one of those needs. People have a desire to be accepted by their peers, have
friendships, be a part of a group, and be loved (Daft, pg. 230). Coach K has the ability to
recognize those needs especially when he acknowledges players and recognizes them when the
execution of a game plan leads to a game win. This is done in the locker room in front of their
peers and on national television after a victory. As long as he continues to meet this basic need of
the players he will continue to bring victories to the Duke Basketball program. For the team, this
intrinsic reward was immediate when Duke achieved the victory over UNC at Cameron Indoor
Stadium that night.
In Coach K s book Leading with the Heart Grant Hill is allowed to write the forward and talk about
his coach from the perspective of a new college recruit, and later he speaks as a friend and
confidant. What Coach K teaches is about life and leadership. He sets the bar high so you can 1)
strive to be the best you can be; 2) appreciate the value and rewards of a hard work ethic; 3) build
close relationships based on trust; 4) set shared goals; 5) sacrifice and give of yourself; 6) win
with humility; 7) lose with dignity; 8) turn a negative into appositive; 9) be a part of something
bigger than yourself; and, 10) enjoy the journey (Krzyzewski, pg x).

The Prohibition Of The Second Amendment
Gun control is one of the most debated about topic today in America; between news outlet, the
public, and politicians. As some politicians look to resolve the gun control issues, with banning
them, imposing more restriction to sellers, buyers and owner; some people and politicians consider
the second amendment to be relic and should be removed from the constitution. History has shown
us time and time again even through all the violence and chaos in the world and America, that there
is a reason for the creation of the second amendment. From history of America independence in
1776 to the ratification of the bill of right in 1791 the 2nd amendment still remains relevant form it
creation, to modern times, and the protection of America s future; for the freedom of its inhabitants
and citizens. The once influential 20th century thinker George Santayana once said, Those who
cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it . Looking back into ancient history, the
history of second amendment, recent and current history we can find clues that will support the
relevance of the 2nd amendment. We will also define the second amendment and try to find
solutions to our current problems from what our forefathers had say. The United States of
America, only 240 years old; still one of the youngest nations to come to power, still has a thing or
two to learn from ancient history. Rome, an empire for more than 500yrs, had similar belief some
American politicians of disarming the people. The

Internal Conflict In The Bhagavad Gita
In the Bhagavad Gita, Arjuna struggles with whether or not to engage in battle with his relatives,

Causes Of Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an idiopathic, chronic inflammatory process. Individuals with
this condition often experience periods of symptomatic relapse and remission. (Lehmann et al.,

Democracy And Politics Of South Korea

Democracy and Politics in South Korea
Democracy that means the rule of people has been used as a political system since Ancient Greece.
Even though its concept has changed as time goes by, it is still regarded as one of the best political
systems and used in many countries. Unfortunately, most Asian countries did not use this political
system until the middle of the 20th century, so they have a very short history compared with
western countries. Because of that, Asia has had some troubles. For example, Park and Shin (2006)
said that many countries have had military dictatorship which is a common government for a
developing country. A developing country, above all, might want to develop their economy, so
they endure dictatorship because the dictator can make a decision easily and quickly (Park, C. D.
Shin, D., 2006). It also happened in South Korea 50 years ago. In spite of military dictatorship in
the past, South Korea has the most successfully established democracy in Asia (Whitehead, L.,
2002).
There is a special history of democracy in South Korea. Democracy was accepted in 1945 in
South Korea because South Korea achieved independence from Japan. Right after independence of
Korea from Japan, they were divided into two countries; North and South Korea. South Korea
founded and developed a democratic government. However, democracy could not be preserved
because a military general, Junghee Park, accomplished the

Effects Of Central Venous Catheters On Health Care
In spite of the pronounced benefits that this technique has brought into health care, it has been
associated with the risk of infections in the bloodstream that results from the microorganisms
inhabiting the outer surface of the device or alternatively such microbes colonizing the fluid
pathway during insertion of the device or while it is in use. As per Marschall et al. (2014), central
venous cathetershave been described to be the most frequent cause of health care associated
contagions in the bloodstream. Consequently, there has been increasing recognition to the fact that
central venous catheters associated infections, as well as other health care associated infections are

Generally, the high morbidity and mortality that is associated with central venous catheter post
insertions, as well as other health care related infections, has improved the understanding of their
preventability, pathogenesis, and even elimination (Napalkov et al. 2013). Additionally, the
increasing unwillingness of patients as well as other stakeholders in the health care sector to view
CVC associated infections as a tolerable risk has resulted in the development of non tolerance mind
set, and stress that societies adhere to the conventional objective of eradicating CVC related
infections. As a result of the risk factors that have been associated with this medical procedure,
various strategies have been implemented to help reduce if not eliminate the threat of central
venous related contagions post insertion. Some of these strategies include the following;
disinfection of the needleless connectors, hubs, as well as the injection ports before the use of the
central venous catheter (Pongruangporn et al. 2013). Drawing from various research findings on the
prevention of CVCs associated infections post insertion, the infection of the center, commonly
referred to as the hub of the catheter as a result of the non sterile access technique has been
identified to be the main path for developing infections associated with the insertion of the catheter.

Animal Farm Dialectical Journal
Journal Entry 1
Summary: In this part of the chapter, we are given a brief summary on the farm that they live on.
They live on a large farm with 6 family members who all have to help maintain the farm in
Minnesota. They have some traditions that would be odd in the eyes of others. For example, when
an animal dies they lay it on the ground to help fertilize the ground beneath it.The family members
on the farm consist of Mother, Father, Uncle David, Wayne and Eldon. The chapter starts off with
characterization explaining the roles of each family member. Eldon is only 11 so he helps
around with everyone, Wayne does the same, but he is also very gifted at baseball and hopes to
play professional, Mother cleans and cook while Uncle David and Father do the majority of the

Like Wickham, the audience is positioned to marginalise Nero, viewing him as cold, calculating

Wickham is represented as uneducated and uncivilised, writing that ...his studying the law was

Civil Law
Civil law (common law)
Civil law is the branch of law dealing with disputes between individuals or organizations, in which
compensation may be awarded to the victim. For instance, if a car crash victim claims damages
against the driver for loss or injury sustained in an accident, this will be a civil law case.[1] Civil
law differs from criminal law, whose emphasis is more on punishment than in dispute resolution.
The law relating to civil wrongs and quasi contract is part of the civil law.[2]
Overview
In the common law, civil law is the area of laws and justice that affect the legal status of
individuals. Civil law, in this sense, is usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be contrasted with common law systems whose intellectual framework comes from judge
madedecisional law which gives precedential authority to prior court decisions on the principle that
it is unfair to treat similar facts differently on different occasions (doctrine of judicial
precedent).[1][2]
Historically, civil law existed in the times of Ancient Egypt and it is the group of legal ideas and
systems ultimately derived from the Code of Justinian, but heavily overlaid by Germanic, canon
law, feudal, and local practices,[3] as well as doctrinal strains such as natural law, codification, and
legislative positivism.
Conceptually, civil law proceeds from abstractions, formulates general principles, and distinguishes
substantive rules from procedural rules.[4] It holds case law to be secondary and subordinate to
statutory law, and the court system is usuallyinquisitorial, unbound by precedent, and composed of
specially trained judicial officers with a limited authority to interpret law.Juries separate from the
judges are not used, although in some cases, benches may be sat by lay judges alongside legally
trained career judges.
Overview
The purpose of codification is to provide all citizens with an accessible and written collection of
the laws which apply to them and which judges must follow. It is the most widespread system

Plastic chairs are affordable and look great as well
Plastic chairs are a common feature in most of the Indian homes, be it rural or urban. Plastic chairs
are also convenient to use, clean and durable and that is the reason behind the popularity of plastic
chairs in India.
When it comes to picking out pieces of decor for your home, plastic furniture designs are often not

creative designs are making this otherwise boring product much more interesting.

Examples Of Microtransactions
So what exactly are microtransactions? Microtransactions can be defined as the exchange of
real money for virtual goods. It is a system where users can purchase virtual goods via
micropayments. hence the term microtransaction ( Microtransaction 2017.) This type of
business model is common in free to play games and is typically used to speed up progression
within the game itself. However, some developers have decided to incorporate microtransactions
despite customers already paying the full price for the game. While this is not necessarily an issue
if the goods are cosmetic and have no effect on the core gameplay, it is an issue if it provides users
who pay for offered goods with an unfair advantage over free to play players. One might... Show

In my opinion, this was a blatant money grab by EA and in no way ethical because they were not
acting in the interest of their clients (the users) and utilizing us as a means to an end. They could
have made the same game sans the microtransactions and have made a reasonable profit from the
cost of the base game itself, but instead chose to make a greedy decision to increase profit margins
for what would have been a successful game regardless. Had I been the one to make the decision, I
would have lowered the time sink required to unlock heroes by a substantial amount, and limited
the microtransactions to cosmetic items. That way, the needs of the customers would have been
satisfied, but the company would have still made more profit than it normally would. In summary,
the decision was not ethical because they acted against the interest of the customers and instead
decided to further their own profits. To understand why microtransactions have become so
prevalent one has to understand the history of them first. Microtransactions date as far back as
early 2005 with the release of the Xbox Live Marketplace. Back then, players could purchase

Death In The Black Death
Deprivation is an understatement for what struck London in 1665. Disease and plague
drastically fled all throughout Asia, North Africa and Europe until it hit London. The Black
Death lasted from 1350 and intermittently came back killing half of the population. The plague
started with an infected rat flea that contained Yersina Pestis bacterium. This infection not only
was found in rats, but dogs, cats, squirrels, chipmunks and mice. Since antibiotics weren t
invented, treatments they tried to use were ineffective and useless. Everyone was in a chaotic
state, trying to be free from this awful death that surrounded them, or cure it perhaps, but it was
unsuccessful. Until one day, a fire burned bright and vast all through London and the crippling
buildings and state also led to a solution to end sickness and bring new life to London. London
was in chaos. Not only mentally and health wise, but physically. The great fire started in 1666
and burned viciously for about five to six days burning one hundred houses every hour. Fires in
London had been frequent over the years, so many had created ways to diminish the fire before it
spread. However, they were quite unprepared when it came to this great fire. The weather at the
time had been very scarce in rain, helping the fire continue its route faster and catching dry
buildings rapidly. It destroyed 13,200 houses and 87 parish churches, along with various other
places surrounding. Only 6 deaths were reported, however rural areas

The Great Gatsby Illusion Vs Reality
The famous Parker Palmer once stated, I think the pursuit of happiness is the pursuit of reality
because illusion never leaves us ultimately happy. Writings by F. Scott Fitzgerald exemplify illusion
versus reality. Fitzgerald reveals the major differences between the two through his characters
emotions and actions.
Fitzgerald s emphasis on superficial versus real love between the characters prevails. For instance,
all of the characters present incredible facades of success, happiness, and love; however, none of
them are truly successful nor happy. Throughout the novel it becomes evident that the relationship
between Tom and Daisy Buchanan is superficial rather than real love. Raised in a wealthy home,

Fitzgerald portrays the illusions versus reality through the characters and objects within the
novel. For example, Tom portrays himself as an extremely wealthy, powerful man who has a

and let Mr. Nobody from Nowhere make love to your wife (Fitzgerald 137). Tom refers to the
affair Daisy is having with Gatsby which reveals the ill character of Tom who is a careless
coward. In addition, Gatsby creates the illusion that he had a well up bringing and the great
stories of how he got his money. However, in reality Gatsby is named James Gatz, a poor boy
from the Midwest who changes his name to become a different person and create an entirely
new image of himself to be a man who wealthy and respected enough to be with Daisy. Last,
Fitzgerald creates the illusion that the eyes of Doctor T.J. Eckleburg look out over the Valley of
Ashes, resembling the eyes of God. In reality, the billboard is just an abandoned sign from an
optician who since moved his practice away. These illusions give the novel a much deeper meaning

The Impact Of The Fourteenth Amendment
For centuries, the success of a democratic society has been measured by its commitment to equality,
a resounding principle central to our nation s founding. The Enlightenment inspired language of the
Declaration of Independence, namely the age old axiom that all men are created equal, pervades
our perception of the American creed. However, nearly a century passed before the Lockean
principles espoused in the Declaration of Independence began to bear the force of law. Entitling
American citizens to due process and equal protection of the law, the Fourteenth Amendment,
perhaps the most transformative Amendment of all, has inspired the steady progression of
American society. Nonetheless, while the Amendment serves as the chief legal force behind the
democratic goal of equality, questions regarding its achievement of that goal... Show more content

Regardless of the guarantees evoked in its wording, only court challenges will determine the
fulfillment of its intent, demanding a conscientious populace and Supreme Court that evolves in
time with the dynamic sentiment of modern society. In another respect, the erroneous conclusion
that the amendment itself is immune to criticism must be rejected. For instance, Section II of the
amendment permits the disenfranchisement of felons, a provision that ironically has perpetuated
the marginalization of those that the amendment was intended to protect. The war on drugs, a
campaign that has disproportionately ravaged African American communities, effectively deprives
a substantial percentage of the African American community of the most basic privilege of
citizenship, a consequence that runs counter to the egalitarian quality that defines the amendment.
Nonetheless, all things considered, the sheer existence of the Fourteenth Amendment manifests the
American commitment to wholly achieving equality, a rewarding work in

Time management determines by the difference between successful and unsuccessful people.
Successful people are able to balance the goals they wish to achieve and duties. And this success
comes from their ability to their time optimally in light of their objectives.
There are two types in our lives:
Type I: A difficult timeorganizing, or managing how much time we spend in our basic needs such
as eating, comfort, family relations and social mission. It is a time cannot use it a lot in what has
been designated a degree of importance to keeping equilibrium in our life.

Sometimes we need rest and break to achieve the goal, so what we do is close the computer, close
the phone, shut down the TV or anything that makes noise. Take a short nap. That gives more
energy for every day. Also sleeping at night is better.
What I understood from these ways is if we want to manage our time well, we have to look for
efficacy and efficiencies.
Efficacy: to perform work properly and reach the desired result.
Efficiency: the performance of work in the right way and getting to the desired result, but with
minimal effort, time and cost. we need to profit and Exploit marginal times, times between
commitments and actions (such as: the use of the car, waiting at the doctor, travel, waiting for
meals, expected visitors). We must know How we spend time, then decompose and identify times
marginal, and develop a plan of operation to benefit them as much as possible. Also do not give up
urgent for the things unnecessary. According to Cameron Chapman bellow are sixteen tips to help
us better managing our time:
1) Get organized.
2) Separate work Space from Everything Else Space.
3) Take advantage of time

episode features and consists of inter linked sketches, based upon an excerpt when Mr Bean is
preparing a Christmas lunch. In this assessment task this comic excerpt is to be analysed, and
individually in essay format, analyse its use of the elements of drama, stage craft and comic style to
determine the creation of comic meaning. The elements used within the excerpt are all contributed
to create and draw a larger focus to the comedic impact trying to be pursued; this is done
successfully due to the use of human context (roles and relationships), tension (tension of the task,
relationship, mystery, and surprise) and movement (e.g. physical actions, gestures and facial
expressions). Human context is displayed within the excerpt when displaying dimensions of the
main character and how they help to develop his character; this is done by characterising Mr Bean
himself and associating him in the opening scene, where he is presented making up in a childish
manner and expression of his relation with Teddy his toy bear, to the audience. Other than the initial
relationship introduced throughout the beginning of the excerpt, the relationship with Irma
reassures the audience that Mr Bean although he acts childish and immature he still possess traits
that position him as an adult. Another theme

Analysis Of Alan Murray s The Wall Street Journal Guide...
In accordance with an adaptation from The Wall Street Journal Guide to Management by Alan
Murray, published by Harper Business, although leadership and management must function
collectively, they are not identical, however they are unavoidably connected and corresponding; any
attempt to disconnect the two is liable to initiate more complications than it resolves. Nevertheless,
considerable effort has been consumed outlining the dissimilarities. The manager s responsibility is
to strategize and coordinate, whereas the leader s responsibility is to encourage and motivate.
(Murray, A., 2009)
Part A:
Manager
A manager is an individual in an establishment who is accountable for the four operations of
occupational management: preparation, coordinating, leadership, and commanding. You will
observe that one of the tasks is leadership, therefore, you may presume that all managers are
leaders. Hypothetically, yes, all managers would be leaders if they successfully accomplish their
leadership accountabilities to communicate and encourage workforces towards an elevated level
of production. Conversely, not all managers are leaders frankly, because not all managers are able
to do all those elements just itemized. An underling will adhere to the guidelines of a manager for
exactly how to achieve a duty because they must, however an operative will willingly adhere to the
instructions of a leader because they have confidence in who they are as an individual, what they

The second probe concerned allegations of coordination between the Walker campaign and
several pro Walker political action committees during his recall election in 2012. After exhaustive
legal battles at several levels of the state court system the Wisconsin Supreme Court, in a sweeping

lower court had previously determined that no laws were violated even if Walker s campaign and
the groups had worked together. Walker, along with fellow republican, chose to denounce the

Regardless of Walker s decision making process, the Governor should ve been able to develop a
policy avenue that minimizes conflicts of interest while also achieve his desired goals. If Walker
had a legitimate and dutiful motive for carrying out the changes to the campaign finance, ethics, and
John Doe investigatory standards, then the governor should have taken additional steps to insulate
himself from the policy changes. For example, the Governor could have postponed the rule changes
until the end of his political career (final term), thereby removing the perceived incentive to position
himself against future ethics violations. While it is impossible to address the ethical implications of

ethicality in the actions of the presiding judges

with the beliefs of the authors of the Robert Johnson and the Classic Blues passages. At the start of
the Robert Johnson passage, the author describes the perfect possibility of the American promise
as gaining energy from the pursuit of happiness. As Americans there is this innate belief that we
could achieve whatever we may want and if we do not have the ability to achieve our goals, in a
way we still deserve to obtain them. The author contrasts the statement, with the way that Robert
Johnson delivers his blues music as a way of breaking up and uncovering this desolate America
that reveals itself when it does fail you. Robert Johnson in Ramblin on My Mind , is an example
of the singer wanting love in his life but having to leave it since he is hurting. Throughout Johnson
s discography, a lot of his songs deal with sex. Here in this song it appears he found something real
with a woman but has been hurt through her actions and must leave her for his own emotional sake.

As black folk in America began recognizing a sense of place within the American society these
types of blues songs developed. Classic blues tended to be more relatable to the general audience
because of said shift. Now this form of blues was not just about the trials and tribulations of black
people in America, because of slavery and overall negative treatment. The ideas and themes within
the songs now dealt with the internal monologues within themselves on a human level. Because
they were now in the same place of talking about the dissatisfactions of life, white America could
relate to these

The Importance Of Learning A Foreign Language
Out of my six year career as a teacher, I could observe that learning a foreign language by relying
only on the conventional teaching strategies will lead to little or no result. Departing from the
repetitive grammar translation method to other innovative approaches helped me attain a certain
level of motivation and interest from my students in learning ESL. Likewise, as a Fulbright FLTA, I
would adopt the same trajectory in teaching Arabic to non native speakers in order to improve the
students acquisition of the target language. One of the approaches that I currently implement in my
classroom is giving my students an immersive and interactive learning experience. It is undeniable
that full immersion in the target language can be quite problematic seeing that as soon as the
learners leave the school setting, they are once again surrounded by their native language. For this
reason, I endeavor to gain insights into the student learning attitude from off class communications
with them in the hope of bringing something new for each lesson. Should I be given the opportunity
to teach Arabic at US universities, I would persuade my students to step out of the traditional
learning setting by visiting Arabic speaking families and interacting with them, or encouraging
them to get involved in events held by Arabs living in the area. As an FLTA, I will be ready to offer
students uncommon access to target languages by hosting cooking sessions, cultural presentations,
and other

Us Involvement In Libya Research Paper
Does everything that the UN authorize really benefit those that it is meant for? The United
Nations is known for its unilateral strive for peace worldwide. The only time that the United
Nations ever decides to intervene in a conflict is always for the betterment of the people that are
involved. Does every choice that the UN come to actually do specifically that? The premise of this
paper is to argue that when the UN authorized NATO to intervene with the rebellion that was going
on in Libya (during a conflict in 2011) actually unnecessarily prolonged the conflict. I believe that in
this isolated occurrence, The United Nationsactually prolonged a conflict rather than solving it.
For years in Libya, there has been a very corrupt government. There was a dictator in power, his
name was Muammar Muhammad Abu Minyar al Qaddafi. This lasted from the years of 1969 to
2011. His dictatorship and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What the mainstream media doesnt know about that conflict was that there were a lot of
negative and lasting effects on the United Nations choice to intervene in this conflict. After
NATO started to bomb, the Libyan government forces decided to discontinue there eastern
offensive against the rebels. I think that because of this the rebels were As a result, Benghazi
was not retaken by the government, the rebels did not flee to Egypt, and the war did not end in
late March. Instead, the rebels in Benghazi reversed their retreat and launched a second westward
offensive. Within barely a week, beneting from NATO bombing of government forces, the rebels
recaptured Brega and Ras Lanuf which are main cities on the eastern side of the country. ( Model

rebellion that could have lasted six weeks ended up lasting thirty

  • 2. The Decision Struck Down A Statute In 1976, by a 7 2 decision, the Court adopted an intermediate level of review for gender classifications in the case Craig v. Boren. The decision struck down a statute that allowed women over the age of eighteen to purchase beer but only men over the age of twenty one. Using this intermediate scrutiny, the Court has invalidated gendersegregation across the board. However, while this heightened level of scrutiny has drastically helped women, it has not been equal in its effect on men. Since Craig, the Court has upheld a requirement that only men register for the draft (Rostker v. Goldberg) and a statutory rape law where only adult men were punished for having sex with an underage individual of the opposite sex (Michael M. v. Superior Court). While these cases occurred in the 80s, this trend of favoring women over men in gender discriminationcases has continued, especially in regards to administrative law and protection. Recent Supreme Court cases reveal that men are still being unfavorably ruled against over women, leading one to believe a push for strict scrutinyis key in bridging that gap and implementing a federal statute that all States must obey in order to ensure gender equality is achieved on both sides of the spectrum. Beginning in the 70s, even before the decision of Craig, one is able to notice a trend of men seeming to fail where women have strived in court. A notable case is Frontiero v. Richardson which involved a lieutenant of the United States Air Force ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Small Town Essay Gabrielle Bolin Dr. Lindsy Lawrence English 1213 0D4 23 April 2015 This Small Town Means Business: Improving Local Economy When you grow up in a small town the one thing that is the most difficult to withstand is boredom. At least, that s how it is for the youth of the area. However, when you look at it from an older and more mature perspective you might realize that the main issue with some small towns is job availability, as well as the town s revenue for different projects, etc. Recently my hometown has been undertaking a few different projects that will really benefit the area and it s economy. The youth league softball program has grown tremendously within the past few years. Due to that improvement, Sallisaw was chosen to host a state tournament. Which was wonderful until we realized that our softball complex was not best suited for a tournament of this magnitude. This is when talk began on building an entirely new sports complex for all of the youth league sports in the area. One other issue arose through hosting this tournament. Out of sixty three teams who were in the tournament last summer, only one team stayed in Sallisaw. The rest of the teams were sent to stay in hotels here in Fort Smith, all because the hotels that are located in Sallisaw did not have an indoor swimming pool. The teams would rather make a thirty minute commute than stay in a hotel that does not have a swimming pool. The next project Sallisaw is undertaking is bringing in a well known hotel ... The law, in its entirety, envelopes the ideas that matter can be transformed from one form to another, mixtures can be separated or developed, and pure substances can be broken down, but the mass will always remain constant (World of Chemicals, 2017). Patterson s art helped develop and promote the idea of fashion style known as the flapper in the 1920s and 1930s. Under Suleiman the Magnificent the Ottoman Empire was a force to be reckoned with, it ruled the Middle East and Suleiman was quickly realizing his goal of advancing into Europe. However in 1529 a major military upset in the Austrian city of Vienna would halt the Islamic Ottoman expansion and save Europe from the possibility of Ottoman control. However this might not had been the case if it were not for several key disadvantages the Ottoman Empirehad against the Viennese. Suleiman the Magnificents defeat during the siege of Vienna, 1529, was caused by poor weather conditions, chaos and disorganization amongst the Ottoman ranks, and a much stronger Viennese defense than was anticipated. In the spring of 1529 Suleiman the Magnificent began to construct his massive army in Ottoman Bulgaria, his objective is to conquer and secure control over all of Hungary and eliminate the threat posed by Ferdinand I and the Holy Roman Empire. Estimates of the size of Suleiman s army vary vastly from around 100,000 men to well over 300,000. The army also consisted of many units of Sapahi, the elite Ottoman Calvary, and thousands and thousands of Janissaries, an extremely well trained Ottoman fighting force. With such a vast group moving all at once there were certain inherent difficulties the Ottomans faced. The biggest of these would be the sheer chaos caused by the disorganization. Desertion was particularly rampant amongst the Ottoman forces and with the disorganization it was nearly impossible to properly distribute resources, malnourishment was a big problem because of the difficulty of acquiring food. This would mark a major disadvantage of the Ottoman morale; it diminished their will to fight, and thus, their will to win. • 11. Definition Of A Modern Hero In Beowulf The Anglo Saxons were one of the first groups of people to use and write the English language and settled in what is now Great Britain. The Anglo Saxons wrote many epics depicting what they thought heroes were, but is their definition of a hero the same as our own? A good example of an Anglo Saxon hero is Beowulf, he travelled to Denmark with a group of warriors to fight a monster named Grendelthat was terrorizing a city, he also killed Grendel s mother and a dragon to save the people in the city. He may seem like a modern hero, he s saving the people in danger, he shows leadership, and has the bravery to do so, but there are distinct differences between the Anglo Saxon hero and a modern hero and those differences also show up in Beowulf.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That quote expresses the biggest difference between the Anglo Saxon hero and the modern hero, in this story the only thing that Beowulf cares about is if he becomes famous. Since Fame and glory is all that matters to Beowulf he is shown to be especially selfish and cold hearted, a trait that most modern hero s don t show. The last reason Beowulf isn t considered a modern hero is because he is materialistic. At the end of the story when Beowulf is killed by the giant dragon he is sealed in a tower with all of his riches Then the Geats built the tower, as Beowulf had asked... And the riches he and Wiglaf had won from the dragon, rings, necklaces, ancient, hammered armor all the treasures they d taken were left there, too. (843 852). This quote shows that Beowulf wanted his people to erect a tower in his name and put him in it just so he could be buried with his spoils of war, his lust for gold and materials is yet another example of why he isn t a modern hero. What it means to be a hero has changed profoundly over time, a hero to the Anglo Saxons are fame driven, materialistic, arrogant people whose only goal is to be talked about for centuries. The modern hero is also all of those traits, but they tend to not express it as much and try to seem as selfless as possible. A modern hero is supposed to be a person who ... Marx s fundamental ideas are prevalent in both novels. Karl Marx is a German philosopher who challenged capitalism with the creation of communism. Marx s most essential and recognized beliefs are that class creates conflict, modern work is alienating, and class struggle is at the heart of the society. He also believes that individuals affected by capitalism are often rugged, which he describes as putting self interest above the needs of the community. (Tyson 60). In Jane Eyre, Jane questions other characters beliefs on Marxism throughout the novel. In Great Expectations, characters challenge Pip on his Marxist beliefs. Therefore, throughout the use of interclass relationships, classism and rugged individualism, readers are able to observe how Jane challenges others Marxist beliefs and other characters challenge Pip s Marxist beliefs. Unfortunately, most Asian countries did not use this political system until the middle of the 20th century, so they have a very short history compared with western countries. Because of that, Asia has had some troubles. For example, Park and Shin (2006) said that many countries have had military dictatorship which is a common government for a developing country. The Black Death lasted from 1350 and intermittently came back killing half of the population. The plague started with an infected rat flea that contained Yersina Pestis bacterium. This infection not only was found in rats, but dogs, cats, squirrels, chipmunks and mice. Since antibiotics weren t invented, treatments they tried to use were ineffective and useless. The elements used within the excerpt are all contributed to create and draw a larger focus to the comedic impact trying to be pursued; this is done successfully due to the use of human context (roles and relationships), tension (tension of the task, relationship, mystery, and surprise) and movement (e.g. physical actions, gestures and facial expressions). Nevertheless, considerable effort has been consumed outlining the dissimilarities. The manager s responsibility is to strategize and coordinate, whereas the leader s responsibility is to encourage and motivate. I identified with the beliefs of the authors of the Robert Johnson and the Classic Blues passages. At the start of the Robert Johnson passage, the author describes the perfect possibility of the American promise as gaining energy from the pursuit of happiness. As Americans there is this innate belief that we could achieve whatever we may want and if we do not have the ability to achieve our goals, in a way we still deserve to obtain them. The author contrasts the statement, with the way that Robert Johnson delivers his blues music as a way of breaking up and uncovering this desolate America that reveals itself when it does fail you. Robert Johnson in Ramblin on My Mind , is an example of the singer wanting love in his life but having to leave it since he is hurting. One of the approaches that I currently implement in my classroom is giving my students an immersive and interactive learning experience.
