Aslan By Cs Lewis Analysis
Analysis: Aslan is a representation of adulthood and the idea of having responsibilities and reaching
full maturity. In the story written by C.S Lewis, we learn each member of the Pevensie siblings have
different charcter aspects that determine their view on Aslan (adulthood). Peter the eldest of the
Pevensie siblings is the most courageous and brave of them. This shows the Peter is very mature and
can face difficult obstacles that come in his way. His reaction was bravery and adventure, showing that
he looks forward with confidence in his future and may be the most ready. Susan Pevensie, the second
oldest, reacted with delight. Susan looks forward to her future also; delights, even, in the idea of being
a woman and maturing completely. Edmund

Causes and effects of Climate Change.
General purpose: to inform.
Specific purpose: After hearing my speech, my audience will know more what climate change is, what
causes it and its effects now and in the future.
Thesis Statement: Climate change is a very important issue that affects all of us, we need to know
more about this issue.
Organization pattern: Cause and effect.
Introduction:
I. (Attention getter): When you look at yourself in a dirty mirror; can you see your image very well?
No. The same occurs when the sun rays reflect on the sea and that reflection can t be released into the
space because gasses in the atmosphere block their exit causing the planet to get warmer.
II. Climate change is how the weather has changed in a specific area over a given period of time
usually 30 years. That means that changes in the weather could be variable or extreme depends on the
region you are. We are seeing these changes every year as the seasons change; I.e. Usually we
compare the weather of the season this year and the weather of the season from the past year.
III. According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Climate change
encompasses global warming, it refers to the broad range of changes that are happening to our planet.
That means the reason of Climate Change is because the planet is getting warmer and this heat is

The Issue of the Commonwealth s Spending Pattern
Intro The issue of the Commonwealths spending power?????. The recent High Court decision of
Williams s v Commonwealth [2012] , saw the introduction of significant changes to this area, and the
forthcoming Williams v Commonwealth No 2 , currently before the High Court, will likely see issue
further developed. The debate surrounding this area has to do with the fact that in addition to the
legislative heads of power in sections 51 and 52 of the constitution, there are a number of other
constitutional provisions which the federal government has attempted to use as a source of
Commonwealth spending power. The two most frequently cited examples being the section 81
Appropriations power and the section 61 Executive power. In considering both of these sections the
High Court has come to the conclusion that the scope of the spending powers should be limited. This
essay will argue the position that the High Court is justified in this approach and, with reference to the
various principles of interpretation set out by the High Court and the notions of Federalism and
Responsible Government, will show that limiting the Commonwealths spending powers, outside of
the legislative heads of power and the grants power in section 96 is both constitutionally valid and
necessary for the democratic process in Australia. The question is asked should the commonwealth be
able to spend its money on anything it feels like including or should it be limited to expenditure on

How Did Napoleon Bonaparte Change The World
When you think of an emperor, or a military general, you most likely think of leaders rather than men
who have been exiled from their country. However, that s exactly what happened to Napoleon
Bonaparte. Bonaparte had great ambitions that changed the world forever. In May of 1804, Napoleon
Bonaparte proclaimed himself the Emperor of France. He remained emperor from 1804 to 1814 and
briefly again in 1815. Napoleon Bonaparte was regarded as a prominent man in Western civilization.
Bonaparte was born on August 15, 1769 in Ajaccio, Corsica, a French island in the Mediterranean Sea.
Napoleon Bonaparte had two wives. He first married Josephine de Beauharnais, a widower, who
already had two children. Josephine was unable to give Napoleon a son, so in 1810, Napoleon
arranged for an annulment so he could marry eighteen year old Marie Louise. The couple had a son,
Napoleon II, on March 20, 1811 (A E). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bonaparte was the fourth child of Carlo Bonaparte, a lawyer, and his wife, Letizia Ramolino.
Napoleon Bonaparte was the second child out of four to actually survive.
Before Napoleon Bonaparte could join the military college of Brienne, he was enabled to enroll in
France s College d Autun. Napoleon s father, Carlo, was appointed assessor of the judicial district of
Ajaccio in 1771, a job that allowed his sons, Napoleon and Joseph, to go to college. Napoleon then
entered the military college of Brienne, where he studied for five years, before going to another
military academy in Paris (A E).
Carlo passed away from stomach cancer while Napoleon Bonaparte was at the academy. Napoleon
Bonaparte assumed the role of head of family, so he graduated early from the academy and returned to
Corsica in 1786 as second lieutenant of artillery. Napoleon Bonaparte ranked 42nd of 58 in the

Ethan King Persuasive Speech
Society generalizes first world teenagers, describing them as trapped inside a bubble, shielded from
harsh realities of impoverished nations and living with the delusions that their problems dominate all
others. While this stereotype does not hold true for all young adults, the unfortunate truth remains:
many do not count their blessings. Recently with our soccer team, we had the opportunity to visit
Vista Maria, a home and school in Dearborn for girls ages 11 to 17 coming from abusive domestic
environments, including sex trafficking and family deficiencies. Interacting with the bright and
beautiful girls felt incredible and encouraged us and the team to truly understand how fortunate we
live. This trip inspired us to plan on visiting Vista ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the young age of ten years old, Ethan traveled to Northern Mozambique with his father to
rehabilitate water wells. He began kicking his shiny, high quality soccer ball with children in the
community and noticed their makeshift balls, created from plastic bags and twine (Couch). Ethan
recalls, When I left [Mozambique], I gave away the soccer ball, and the kids went wild, starting
cheering. It was crazy (Couch). Ethan s generous spirit urged him to give away the ball, a simple act
that changed his life completely. The priceless smiles and shouts, filling the air with hope, resonated in
his head. During the return flight to the United States, he decided to begin recreating the moment for
more kids around the globe by sending out soccer balls, an idea he named Charity Ball in 2010
(Singer). Ethan resides in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as a 17 year old who still loves soccer. He plays
on a club team called Midwest United and the Region II team in part of the Olympic Development
program ( Charity Ball ). Gaining support proved difficult in the early stages of Charity Ball. Multiple
rejected phone calls left Ethan unsure about his vision, but he refused to give up. Eventually major
athletic brands began positively responding, including Franklin, Rawlings, and Wilson which fueled
the process (Couch). Ethan s creativity, generosity, and perseverance in bringing his simple idea to life
has spiralled into Charity Ball, a successful and growing

A New Barbie Commercial Challenges
A new Barbie commercial challenges us to question, What happens when girls are free to imagine they
can be anything? ( Imagine the Possibilities ). Mattel has created an inspiring and thought provoking
ad. The ad, titled Imagine the Possibilities, was developed and published by Mattel as a promotion for
Barbie Dolls. The ad was originally published on Mattel s YouTube channel (Rose). To create a
successful advertisement, Mattel targeted a particular audience. A very specific purpose was kept in
mind as Mattel created the ad. Rhetorical appeals were boldly used throughout the ad to capture the
audience s attention.
In the ad, five young girls pretend to be working professionals. The reaction of nearby adults is caught
by hidden cameras. The audience is first introduced to Gwyneth. Gwyneth walks into a college
classroom and announces to her new students that she will be their professor for the day. She jumps
right into a lesson about the brain. Gwyneth keeps her students on their toes when she says cute things
such as, There is no high school for the dog. We then see Brooklyn, the veterinarian. Brooklyn is
dressed in a white doctors coat with a cat shirt underneath. She has her hair braided into pigtails and a
stethoscope around her neck. She has even made herself a nametag that says doctor. At first, pet
owners seem skeptical about letting Brooklyn examine their pets, but they warm up to the idea pretty
quickly. While examining a cat, Brooklyn questions whether or

The Tar Heel Family Resort Development Plan
For every situation that Martin had to deal with, the battle against eminent domain in regard to his
coastal property is where there is a disagreement. Although, the Kelo case gave precedence to the
confiscation of personal property for economic development, the party that is executing the
condemnation must prove that the confiscation will lead to an economic development that will benefit
the common good. Within the proposal of the Tar Heel Family Resort development plan, there is no
indication that the development would be for public use. The only broad stroke benefit it may apply to
the public is the creation of jobs, which, if the judge uses a broad visionary approach to the concept of
eminent domain, the resort may succeed. However, if the judge uses a narrow scope of the term, and
that eminent domain will only hold if it s for public accommodations, then Martin will succeed. The
two categories are further detailed by Hoyman and McCall:
The first category, the narrow justification of eminent domain authority, means that the power is used
for traditional public use (Epstein 2005), such as water and sewer systems, prisons, roads, hospitals,
government office buildings, and other similar projects. The second category, the broad interpretation
of permissible eminent domain use, includes private redevelopment projects that arguably would
benefit the public at large (Malloy 2008), by bringing jobs and revenue to a particular jurisdiction (P.
886).

Public Prostitution In The United States During The 19th...
Public humiliation has been around for years. It was always a controversial and terrible thing to do to
a person. Being outlawed in the states during the 19th century there is a reason why this was banned.
Public humiliation destroys a person emotionally. In my experience of public humiliation I posted a
fun joke about fictional character being crusty on tumblr (the place where everyone get offended).
Finding the joke funny, because who doesn t love a crusty joke, I posted it with no ill intent. Suddenly
the person I made the joke to started to get really offended. They even cried. They seriously posted a
text saying that they were really hurt about it. I didn t know what was going on, the joke was innocent,
I didn t know that they were offended

Brickham Case
Assignment Three. Case 9.2 Bilateral or Unilateral Contract: In the case of Bickham v Washington
Bank Trust Company, a distinction must be made as to what type of contract has been made if any. In
a unilateral contract is also called a Promise for an Act (Cheeseman, 2013). The meaning of this is that
an act must be completed in order for there to be a contract. An example of this is if someone was to
promise to pay a set amount if a second party painted a wall. If the wall is not painted then the
contract does not happen. A bilateral contract is a contract in which two parties agree to a promise for
a promise (Cheeseman, 2013). In this case there is a bilateral contract created. The agent of the bank

Mr. Bickham. This contract was initially performance based and required Mr. Bickham to move all his
financial transactions thru the bank. Once did this he performed his obligation to the bank, the bank
then in turn loaned Mr. Bickham the money at the agreed upon rates. Due to the fact that this contract
is a bilateral type, when the bank changes the deal they are in breach of the contract. The current
loans, regardless of current economic issues the bank is having, should not and cannot legally be
modified without both parties agreeing to the modification. Future loans as they have not been
formally signed and agreed upon would change to the new interest rate. To answer the second question

The Pains Of Sleep By Robert Southey Essay
The couplets encompass the odd tension of The Pains of Sleep : the ending is both over long,
extending the natural length of the stanza by an additional two lines, and abrupt, answering the
universal despair of wherefore fall on me? with an admittedly lacklustre response. The insistent
repetition such , wherefore , love furthers the resounding resolution of the poem. Coleridge s draft of
the poem in a letter to Robert Southey suggests that there is potential for movement beyond the
declaration of the last line, for he affixes c c c c c onto the end of the line, and whilst a large portion of
the draft is altered for its publication in 1816, this line remains untouched. Perhaps the clue is in one
of the lines from The Pains of Sleep which is altered for its 1816 publication but exists in the draft
version sent to Southey as well: The self created Hell within. (Letter to Robert Southey, September 12
1803.) The unfathomable Hell within. ( The Pains of Sleep , line 46.) The poem can be seen as a
verbal translation of the self created Hell within : whilst the poem is structurally contained, the
unfathomable interior world it describes, and the claustrophobic blending of reality and unreality, all
contribute to it seeming incomplete upon interrogation. Coleridge rejects the universal question in
favour of a personal answer because the poem cannot adequately make sense of the distorted images it
contains. Unlike

Essay On Hawaii Volcanoes
Hawaii: Geology s Volcanic Wonder of the World It is well know that Hawaii is very volcanically
active and is home to the world s most active volcanoes. Hawaii is unique because the islands are
caused by a hot spot in the middle of the Pacific Plate, one of the largest crustal plates on earth. There
are only a few hot spots on earth and they occur in an area where the plate is thin and weak creating
volcanism, where molten magma ruptures the earth s crust. For Hawaii, the hot spot is under the sea
floor, it creates under sea volcanoes. Over millions of years these volcanoes build up to sea level and
become islands. As for Hawaii, the Pacific Plate has moved northwest across this hot spot creating
what we know today as the Hawaiian Islands in the South Pacific Ocean. In all, ... Show more content

Erupting steadily since March 2008, the summit crater, Halemaumau continues to send plumes of
sulfur dioxide and steam clouds. In the east rift zone of Kilauea is Pu u O o, a volcanic vent that is
considered active. You can safely access this area by helicopter because it is too far from roads to
drive however if you don t mind the mile walk, you can hike in on a marked pathway to view the lava
flows. The world s largest active shield volcano, Mauna Loa, is also located on the Island of Hawaii.
Mauna Loa s last eruption was March 24 through April 15, 1984, and has been heavily monitored
since 1912 because of its immediate threat to population centers. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
encompasses the summit of Mauna Loa and the southeast flank of the volcano and further south to
include Kilauea volcano.
Hawaii s volcanoes are shield volcanoes and considered to have effusive eruptions, a type of eruption
where lava steadily flows from the volcano onto the earth s surface and the viscosity of the lava,
amount and time of the eruption and the grade of the immediate area usually dictates the shape of the

Sorrow And Grief In Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet, one of many Shakespeare tragedy plays, reveals that Shakespeare thinks love brings
sorrow and grief. The play tells a story about two star crossed lovers named Romeo and Juliet, who
live in two different households that hate each other. Many problems arise with Romeo and Juliet
loving each other, but being enemies in nature. The story is told by many characters, including Romeo
and Juliet. Through this, Shakespeare uses dramatic irony, repetition of epithets, and pathos to show
how love brings sorrow and grief. Dramatic irony is seen throughout the whole play many times, but
one time stands out when the main character Romeo slays Tybalt, kinsmen to the Capulets (Juliet s
Family), out of sheer anger. Consequently, Romeo was banished. Said in the play by Paris, he stated,
Immoderately she weeps for Tybalt s death, And therefore have I little talk of love (Rom.IV.i.6/7).
Paris thinks that Juliet weeps for Tybalt being slain, but instead is weeping for Romeo who was
banished from Verona. Following the banishment incident, Juliet remained in a coma like death that
she put herself into not marry Paris, but everyone thought of Juliet being dead, even Romeo. By her
tomb, Romeo spoke, Beauty s ensign yet is crimson in thy lips and in thy cheeks (Rom.V.iii.94/95).
The coma was to end and she was to wake any minute that Romeo went to Juliet, nevertheless Romeo
didn t know of the potion that put her in the coma. Full of grief, Romeo proceeded to kill himself even
though he noticed that Juliet looked well alive. Previously, when Romeo was banished and Juliet in
the coma, many examples of repetition of epithets happened during those scenes. Romeo and Juliet
has many characters expressing their sorrow with the repeated use of adjectives to describe their or
another s state. When Tybalt was killed, many wept for their kinsmen including the nurse of the
Capulet s. The nurse exclaims, We are undone, lady, we are undone. Alack the day, he s gone, he s
killed, he s dead (Rom.III.ii.43/44). The nurse repeatedly states about Tybalt being killed and is dead.
She is so stricken by grief that she doesn t say who was killed and Juliet gets confused about who got
killed, Tybalt, Romeo, or both. Soon after,

Linda De Pauw s contribution of Land of the Unfree: Legal Limitations on Liberty in Revolutionary
America , written in a gender method discusses the slavery issue that was carefully overlooked during
the time that the Declaration of Independence was composed by Thomas Jefferson. De Pauw discusses
the irony of the colonists as they fought for their independence at the same time maintaining the
enslavement of the majority of the colonies population. Her article dared to voice the unspoken notion
that previous historians carefully avoided the issues of slavery. During this time there was
enslavements of both blacks and whites, however, there was different legal restrictions for each
classification of color.
De Pauw, discusses the majority and minority statistics, reflecting the gender history of the population
of the thirteen colonies during this time. Statistics shows the majority of the population were indeed
the less fortunate enslaved blacks, indentured white males and all females. Ironically the minority
numbers were the actual white males that pursued the liberty of this nation. De Pauw proceeds to
analyze the psychological legal ramifications of the majority of the population. She discusses the legal
status, traditions and practices that failed to provide the same liberties to all whether black

The Controversy Of Banning Bottled Water
Plastic water bottles can take between 400 and 1,000 years to decompose according
to(www.banthebottle.net) .That can cause harm to the air that we breath and did you know that the
plastic in the bottles that we drink also has harmful chemicals in it such as such as bisphenol A (BPA).
These are just a few of the reason why Waunakee should ban bottled water.
One reason that I think that bottled water should be banned in Waunakee is because if we ban bottled
water we could actually save bottled water. it takes at least twice as much water to produce a plastic
water bottle as the amount of water in the water bottle. according to(hidden water in everyday
product) Certain countries that make water are in droughts and it they are most likely wasting alost of
their water on the plastic for the bottles. What you can do to prevent that is just drinking plain water
from your fridge. Also by doing that you could avoid drink the chemicals in the bottles. There for one
reason the I think that bottled water should be banned in Waunakee WI is because they use up too
much water actually make the plastic for the bottle.
A second reason why bottled water should be banned in Waunakee is because we are we are wasting
fossil fuels on them when we could use them for other things. Production of bottled water increases
the use of fossil fuels. according to ( cons of bottled water) we are already running out of fossil fuel
we can stop using the fossil fuels for bottled water by doing one thing

Materialism and Dualism are both theories based on where the mind is located. The mind consists of
mental states. Mental states can be divided into three categories: cognitive, conative and affective.
Cognitive states are aimed at fitting the world and these include beliefs, knowledge, memories,

people with the disease lose many of their mental states and what makes them an individual. When a
person has Alzheimer s their brain is damaged and they develop impaired memory, thinking and
behaviour. Through damages to the brain from the disease and other research scientists can conclude
that certain mental states can be attributed to certain parts of the brain. Such as, that the temporal lobes
of the brain process working memory and higher emotions such as empathy, morality and regret, the
limbic system contains our desire and emotions, the hippocampus forms new memories and that the
cerebellum stores our muscle memory. When a person has Alzheimer s the brain cells die and lead to
the brain shrinking. The connections within the brain are also damaged so signals cannot be passed.
(Fightdementia.org.au, 2014) If the mind was not in fact within the brain how could Alzheimer s affect
a persons mental states that are located within the soul? The soul would be perfectly intact as would

The Failure Of Fantastic Four s Reboot
Introduction The failure of Fantastic Four s Reboot has been arguing since its global release in theaters
in 9th of august in 2015. The reviews by critics led the earnings of the movie to reach approximately
$29.4 million in its debut in cinemas. In one hand, the most noticeable final impression of reviewers is
that the majority agreed to consider Fantastic Four s Reboot the worst superhero movie ever. On the
other hand, almost all of the critics did not blame the actors and actresses to be the reason of the movie
s failure. Yet, There were several aspects affected the movie to not be worthy of audience s attention in
the Box Office such as visual language superficiality, more realistic and dramatic than a fantasy
movie, promising actors and actresses in an under qualified movie, in addition to a confusing trailer.
However, this essay will seek critically to find the major mistakes that occurred in the final montage
as well as spoiled it with a supporting evidence. Visual Language Superficiality Primarily, In an article
(Gleiberman, 2015) an arguable point has been broached to describe the visual language in the movie
to be very outdated in this era. In fact, that means the product lacks the quality of the visual effects
that can appear in well done movies. In addition to the lack of meanings in its Cinematography, a way
to express meanings via visual actions only. Furthermore, another article (Reoper, 2015) Fantastic
Four s visual effect is not indeed bad, however,

Madoff s The Great Ponzi Scheme
Mr. Madoff s crimes were extraordinarily evil. The breach of trust was massive. I simply do not get
the sense that Mr. Madoff has done all that he could or told all that he knows. These are all quotes
given by the US district attorney Denny Chin that give a mere glimpse into the horrible impact that
Bernie Madoff has had on 21st century American society. Madoff cheated investors worldwide in the
biggest Ponzi scheme in American history stealing over sixty five billion dollars from his clients .His
enormous ponzi scheme was essentially evil genius and because of this incredible con Madoff has
become the face of fraud in the 21st century and someone who exemplifies the dark side of wall street.

So when Charles ponzi found a way to make profit by buying coupons from other countries and
selling it here the result was profit which he said he share with his investors around 50 percent in 50
90 days. However eventually he was caught and was sentenced to 14 years in prison after owing 7
million dollars adjusted for inflation that is over 82 million dollars. Madoff seemingly took inspiration
with ponzi and used a similar hook; both madoff and ponzi would use their immense charm and use of
diction stressing words that would intrigue the customer while being patient and exclusive . An
example of their prowess would be if you decided to go to a part and you meet Madoff who suddenly
has taken a liking to you. To him, you seem sharp and able to recognize a gold mine when you see it.
He says he only offers this tip to his closest friends, but he s willing to make an exception for you. He
says if you get in on this opportunity now, you ll be an early investor in the next big thing. You ve
intrigued by his offer and decide to join. That is how Madoff would trap you. As humble beginnings

Therefore, the book industry, and in particular book wholesale industry is still flourishing, since they
provide possibility to distribute and resell books in smaller quantities than suppliers do.
The wholesalers whose business is connected only to books, journals and newspapers are generally
considered to be speciality wholesalers. Speciality wholesaler is the one that specializes in one product
line (or a few product lines) but carries the line or lines in considerable depth (MONASH Marketing
Dictionary 2004). This type of wholesaler can have products from various suppliers, but the product
type or industry is the same. Since the industry is specialized, such book wholesalers have broad
knowledge on assortment, trends, and new releases. They have to maintain relationships with different
publishers worldwide in order to achieve access to various printed books required by the customers.
For the wholesalers of books the warehouse or distribution center is the most important asset. The
main task of wholesalers is to buy the products from various suppliers and resell them to retailers,
other wholesalers, businesses or end customers. Therefore, it is crucial to have sufficient place for
storing books and processing the orders.
However, various characteristics of book as a product

Analysis Of Relational Unions And Connections
Deceiving in relational unions and connections has been extremely uncontrolled particularly in the
contemporary society. Many individuals have lost their marriage accomplices because of deceiving
either sincerely or sexually. Individuals are typically less dedicated and fulfilled seeing someone when
they get an inclination that their accomplices are undermining them. Conning or misdirecting on ones
accomplice is generally determined by less duty in one relationship whereby a few people may cheat
as an endeavor to escape a relationship (Gunderson and Ferrari 2008 2). In most sentimental

these companionships. As indicated by specialists on these reviews the primary normal for an
enthusiastic undertaking is that for the most part the included people are completely unconscious of
their conduct and that they once in a while consider themselves to be being unfaithful (Jet 2004 15).
The way that these individuals may not rehearse sexual undertakings makes them to see their

sense its damages infrequently significantly more than the physical or sexual tricking. Enthusiastic
deceiving turns out to be more risky and harming to a lady when she finds that her accomplice has

The Importance Of Flexibility In The Lens
. Why is it important for the lens in the vitreous humor to maintain flexibility? When does the
flexibility start to reduce and what is the result of the inflexibility? The interior chamber of the eyeball
consist of the vitreous humor which is a transparent, jelly like structure, located behind the lens. The
vitreous humor aids in upholding the structure of the eyeball and acts as a support for the lens
ensuring that it does not get damaged due to its delicacy (BiologyMad, 2015). The lens is a transparent
structure that is composed of flexible tissues which plays a critical role in maintaining flexibility
(Than, 2016). The flexibility and the elasticity of the lens are crucial as it allows the lens to change the

When the flexible tissues (muscles) contract, the lens also contracts causing the lens to thicken. The
inflexibility allows the eye to be able to see closer objects more clearly (Than, 2016). When the
flexible tissues (muscles) relax, the lens pulls away and flattens, increasing the flexibility in the lens.
This allows the eye to be able to see objects from a distance (Than, 2016). The ciliary muscles play an
important role in aiding the flexibility of the lens. The study of the eye and its parts has led to much
medical advancement in ophthalmology. Describe a condition/disease/disorder that affects the eye and
how the structures in the eyes are affected by the condition/disease/disorder. What course of action is
taken to relieve the problem and how are the structures and functions compensated for? Corneal ulcer
is an open sore or an epithelial defect that causes inflammation to the cornea (Dahl, 2016). The cornea
is a thin transparent lens found on the eye allowing light rays to come into and be focused by the eye
(Dahl, 2016). Corneal ulcers often appears light grey in color on the transparent cornea (Dahl, 2016).
This grey colour may at times be hard to see in one s eye and requires to be magnified to be diagnosed

Essay about The Controversy Over the Electoral College...
The Controversy Over the Electoral College System
A number of Americans fail to realize that when they vote they are not voting for the president and
vice president directly, but for electors who then cast their ballots in the Electoral College. Until the
recent battle between Gov. George W. Bush and Vice president Al Gore for the presidency, this new
generation of American voters has never witnessed a controversial election. Historically, there have
been problematic elections allowing voters to question this system. The Electoral College is now a
process open to criticism and debate, specifically because many do not understand its origin or
purpose today. On November 7, 2000, Election Day, I was excited to become an official voter. ...

Yet in the morning, I learn that Florida is again announced too close to call because by Florida law, the
percentage difference between the candidates was so marginal, a recount was necessary. Is this
possible to have such a close race and no president announced on Election Day? Because Al Gore had
a slim lead in the popular vote, the decision of which candidate receives the electoral votes in Florida
seemed irrelevant to the people. However, there have been many presidents who have merely won the
plurality vote, meaning they have not received a majority of the popular vote, but electoral votes,
therefore becoming minority presidents. John Quincy Adams, with 30.92 percent of the popular vote
defeated Andrew Jackson in 1824, which was decided by a contingency election in the House of
Representatives. Even Abraham Lincoln became a minority president in the election of 1860. He
polled the lowest popular vote percentage in the history of the presidency. In 1876, Rutherford B.
Hayes was elected with 47.95 percent of the popular vote and 185 electoral votes, compared to Tilden
who held 50.97 percent and 184. Minority presidents also include: Woodrow Wilson, Harry S.
Truman, John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon(1968), and Bill ClintonHowever, the election of 1888 is
similar to our current situation. Benjamin Harrison won the election against Cleveland in which no
candidate polled a majority, yet Cleveland beat him in the

Where Did Slaves Come To Brazil
Ever since the first coffee bean tree was discovered in Ethiopia, the bean became a pleasurable
commodity that spread quickly to Yemen and other Asian countries. It wasn t long before it came to
Brazil, becoming one of the largest coffee producing countries in the world today. Throughout time,
people came up with brewing systems and coffee making machines that made it easy to manufacture
coffee but it wasn t like that in the early 1800 s. Slaves came into Brazil and were forced to work in
difficult labor conditions to collect and roast coffee beans.
1. The first question that popped in my mind was where did slaves come from and how did they get to
Brazil? According to the article Slavery and International Relations on the Southern Border of

  • 4. The Issue of the Commonwealth s Spending Pattern Intro The issue of the Commonwealths spending power?????. The recent High Court decision of Williams s v Commonwealth [2012] , saw the introduction of significant changes to this area, and the forthcoming Williams v Commonwealth No 2 , currently before the High Court, will likely see issue further developed. The debate surrounding this area has to do with the fact that in addition to the legislative heads of power in sections 51 and 52 of the constitution, there are a number of other constitutional provisions which the federal government has attempted to use as a source of Commonwealth spending power. The two most frequently cited examples being the section 81 Appropriations power and the section 61 Executive power. In considering both of these sections the High Court has come to the conclusion that the scope of the spending powers should be limited. This essay will argue the position that the High Court is justified in this approach and, with reference to the various principles of interpretation set out by the High Court and the notions of Federalism and Responsible Government, will show that limiting the Commonwealths spending powers, outside of the legislative heads of power and the grants power in section 96 is both constitutionally valid and necessary for the democratic process in Australia. The question is asked should the commonwealth be able to spend its money on anything it feels like including or should it be limited to expenditure on topics related to ... The Tar Heel Family Resort Development Plan For every situation that Martin had to deal with, the battle against eminent domain in regard to his coastal property is where there is a disagreement. Although, the Kelo case gave precedence to the confiscation of personal property for economic development, the party that is executing the condemnation must prove that the confiscation will lead to an economic development that will benefit the common good. Within the proposal of the Tar Heel Family Resort development plan, there is no indication that the development would be for public use. The only broad stroke benefit it may apply to the public is the creation of jobs, which, if the judge uses a broad visionary approach to the concept of eminent domain, the resort may succeed. However, if the judge uses a narrow scope of the term, and that eminent domain will only hold if it s for public accommodations, then Martin will succeed. The two categories are further detailed by Hoyman and McCall: The first category, the narrow justification of eminent domain authority, means that the power is used for traditional public use (Epstein 2005), such as water and sewer systems, prisons, roads, hospitals, government office buildings, and other similar projects. The second category, the broad interpretation of permissible eminent domain use, includes private redevelopment projects that arguably would benefit the public at large (Malloy 2008), by bringing jobs and revenue to a particular jurisdiction (P. 886). • 12. The Pains Of Sleep By Robert Southey Essay The couplets encompass the odd tension of The Pains of Sleep : the ending is both over long, extending the natural length of the stanza by an additional two lines, and abrupt, answering the universal despair of wherefore fall on me? with an admittedly lacklustre response. The insistent repetition such , wherefore , love furthers the resounding resolution of the poem. Coleridge s draft of the poem in a letter to Robert Southey suggests that there is potential for movement beyond the declaration of the last line, for he affixes c c c c c onto the end of the line, and whilst a large portion of the draft is altered for its publication in 1816, this line remains untouched. Perhaps the clue is in one of the lines from The Pains of Sleep which is altered for its 1816 publication but exists in the draft version sent to Southey as well: The self created Hell within. (Letter to Robert Southey, September 12 1803.) The unfathomable Hell within. ( The Pains of Sleep , line 46.) The poem can be seen as a verbal translation of the self created Hell within : whilst the poem is structurally contained, the unfathomable interior world it describes, and the claustrophobic blending of reality and unreality, all contribute to it seeming incomplete upon interrogation. Coleridge rejects the universal question in favour of a personal answer because the poem cannot adequately make sense of the distorted images it contains. Unlike ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hawaii is unique because the islands are caused by a hot spot in the middle of the Pacific Plate, one of the largest crustal plates on earth. There are only a few hot spots on earth and they occur in an area where the plate is thin and weak creating volcanism, where molten magma ruptures the earth s crust. For Hawaii, the hot spot is under the sea floor, it creates under sea volcanoes. Over millions of years these volcanoes build up to sea level and become islands. • 15. Sorrow And Grief In Romeo And Juliet Romeo and Juliet, one of many Shakespeare tragedy plays, reveals that Shakespeare thinks love brings sorrow and grief. The play tells a story about two star crossed lovers named Romeo and Juliet, who live in two different households that hate each other. Many problems arise with Romeo and Juliet loving each other, but being enemies in nature. The story is told by many characters, including Romeo and Juliet. Through this, Shakespeare uses dramatic irony, repetition of epithets, and pathos to show how love brings sorrow and grief. Dramatic irony is seen throughout the whole play many times, but one time stands out when the main character Romeo slays Tybalt, kinsmen to the Capulets (Juliet s Family), out of sheer anger. Consequently, Romeo was banished. Said in the play by Paris, he stated, Immoderately she weeps for Tybalt s death, And therefore have I little talk of love (Rom.IV.i.6/7). Paris thinks that Juliet weeps for Tybalt being slain, but instead is weeping for Romeo who was banished from Verona. Following the banishment incident, Juliet remained in a coma like death that she put herself into not marry Paris, but everyone thought of Juliet being dead, even Romeo. By her tomb, Romeo spoke, Beauty s ensign yet is crimson in thy lips and in thy cheeks (Rom.V.iii.94/95). The coma was to end and she was to wake any minute that Romeo went to Juliet, nevertheless Romeo didn t know of the potion that put her in the coma. Full of grief, Romeo proceeded to kill himself even though he noticed that Juliet looked well alive. Previously, when Romeo was banished and Juliet in the coma, many examples of repetition of epithets happened during those scenes. Romeo and Juliet has many characters expressing their sorrow with the repeated use of adjectives to describe their or another s state. When Tybalt was killed, many wept for their kinsmen including the nurse of the Capulet s. The nurse exclaims, We are undone, lady, we are undone. Alack the day, he s gone, he s killed, he s dead (Rom.III.ii.43/44). The nurse repeatedly states about Tybalt being killed and is dead. She is so stricken by grief that she doesn t say who was killed and Juliet gets confused about who got killed, Tybalt, Romeo, or both. Soon after, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Is this possible to have such a close race and no president announced on Election Day? Because Al Gore had a slim lead in the popular vote, the decision of which candidate receives the electoral votes in Florida seemed irrelevant to the people. However, there have been many presidents who have merely won the plurality vote, meaning they have not received a majority of the popular vote, but electoral votes, therefore becoming minority presidents. John Quincy Adams, with 30.92 percent of the popular vote defeated Andrew Jackson in 1824, which was decided by a contingency election in the House of Representatives.
