Biological Theories Of Deviance
Deviance differ from culture to culture and person to person, it is hard to pinpoint what is considered
deviant to the masses and what is not. For example. a single culture may accept the idea of marrying
off their daughter at a young age as acceptable, but other cultures may not and might find this to be a
heinous act. While there are different forms of deviants ranging from criminal, sexual, to even a
persons lifestyle, theories have been reformed throughout the decades to better explain the basis of
these abnormal acts. There are various theories of deviancy. It is because deviance is not restricted to a
single type of biology, psychology, or sociology. Biological theories of deviance focuses primarily on
the nature of the individual.

The Battle Of The Ss St. Louis
On September 1, 1939 war broke out after Germany invaded Poland. The harsh act led to many more
invasions and battles. During the holocaust, Germany moved Jews by the thousands to concentration
camps all throughout Germany. These camps tortured Jews in different ways such as gas chambers,
hanged them, and burned them alive in large groups. In total, Hitler and his followers killed 11 million
people. 6 million of them Jewish and 1 million children(Wikipedia). Jews were trying to flee from the
country. Some were able to aboard the SS St. Louis. Captain, Gustav Schröder stepped up to get
refugees to safety in another country. This was one of many ways Jews escaped the country.

At 4:00 on May 27,1939, the ship arrived to the coast of Havana, Cuba. Cuba denied entry to the usual
docking areas for the ship. Due to the restriction, the ship dropped anchor and spent six long days
docked just outside of the harbor. After a long wait, the Cuban government granted any passengers
with a visa, access to Cuba. Twenty two of the twenty nine passengers that Cuba had given entry to
were Jewish and had valid U.S. visas. The six other passengers included four Spanish citizens and two
Cuban nationals that had the documents that allowed them valid entry. During this time, they brought
the one passenger who attempted to commit suicide to a hospital in Havana. For the remaining 908
passengers, the Cuban government would not allow them access.
Florida
Next, the ship circled around Florida. The Captain persisted and persevered through this trip to find
refuge for the passengers. Schröder even considered going close to the shore of Florida to allow the
refugees to jump off the ship and swim to shore, but the U.S. Coast Guard made this impossible by
watching them. The St. Louis was denied access to Cuba but also the U.S.; where they sent a warning
shot to keep the ship off the shores in Florida. According to the law, the refugees could not enter the
U.S. on tourist visas either because they did not have any return addresses. There was no hope for the
refugees to escape in the U.S. at the time. Not wanting to return to Germany, the

Chase Ross, a twenty six year old transgender male, creates YouTube content focused on promoting
LGBT issues along with educating LGBT youth. His content deals primarily with transgender

Social Factors That Changed The World
Clothing became less expensive in the 1960 s because of the Industrial Revolution, so more people are
seen being involved in popular fashion trends and expressing themselves in ways they please because
of the affordability. The sharply angled Vidal Sassoon hair style where women cut their hair shorter
and styled it in an angular way. This decade also started the trend of people wanting to look skinnier.
Designers preferred models looked younger, thinner, and had longer legs. Social factors occurring at
the time also effected fashion and helped represent people s beliefs. André Courrège s came out with
many new fashions that reflected America s involvement in the Space Race with Russia during that
time and our achievement for having sent a person to the moon. This space age caused Courrège to
come out with designs that resemble space suits which included: silver sequined pants, white plastic
like boots, and white sunglasses with slits. Courrège also came out with a regular suit that had a
geometrically cut jacket and angled collar which became a big hit. In the 1970 s, many fashions were
inspired by the hippie look and many clothes were becoming handmade again. Hair was often worn
long and straight or rolled into corkscrew curls and loose waves. Hot pants, tie dyed shirts, bell
bottoms, and flared pants worn with platform shoes became a hit. Jeans also became a standard
clothing worn by many and towards the end of the decade and high waisted and skinny jeans were

Foreign Affairs And Foreign Trade
MEMORANDUM
To: Honorable Maxine McClean, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade
From: Monica Perez
Date: November 14, 2015
RE: Engaging in trilateral cooperation: Mitigating the Chinese threat to U.S. hegemony in Latin
America
STATEMENT OF ISSUE:
Barbados is a net importing developing country (NIDC) with food imports significantly exceeding
food exports. As in most Caribbean islands, domestic agricultural output and food processing is
limited. Barbados relies on imports of practically the full range of food products to meet the needs of
its population. In fact, Barbados imports 70% of its food, over a third of which comes from the United
States. As a result, food security in terms of food self sufficiency and self reliance is severely lacking.
Moreover, the expanding tourism sector further fuels the demand for U.S. food products. U.S. exports
to Barbados of snacks, dairy products, processed fruits vegetables, fruit vegetable juices, and seafood
products have all registered increases since 2010. Fresh, chilled and frozen red meat products are also
an important product category which increased by 150% since 2010. These food imports, particularly
those of processed foods, are often associated with increasing weight and higher rates of chronic non
communicable diseases (obesity, diabetes, hypertension, stroke, heart disease, and cancer). Within the
Barbadian population, the increased consumption of animal fats, sugar products and salt from
processed foods has led

My Experience At The Fire Department Of New York Essay
The single greatest event that to this point that has shaped my life is clearly September 11, 2001. Not,
moment in a given day do not think about that day and how it changed me as a person. I worked
twenty years for the Fire Department of New York, I cannot say I got there by my intelligence or
physical prowess it was dumb luck on a civil service exam. My retirement was very simple first when
I was a teenager my family summered in Wells Beach I ha d gotten a summer job at the local beach
market known as Ben s Market I worked there four summers. My dream was when I would retire I
would buy the market from Ben. In the 1993 Ben got a divorce from his wife three years later the
market was in trouble with the bank and it went into foreclosure. Again as dumb luck would have it
my father told me about this and I bid on the proper at auction and somehow won the bid. This is now
1995 more than several years before I had planned on retiring; however one of the perks of being a
firefighter is that we only work 96 days a year. Or another way of looking at it is I worked 8 days a
month. So to work the market for three months during the summer I would have to find swaps for 24
days. So for the last five years of working at the firehouse I would swap out shirts during the fall and
winter to cover my time. The next part of my retirement plan was that I would work summers and my
wife and I would travel the rest of the time. Secretly, I wanted to talk my wife into sell the home we

The Natural Environment
How does the natural environment influence culture?
There is a myriad of varying definitions for the word culture. Instead of defining culture in general
terms, it is often defined by how it is related to the environment; and consequently, how it is affected.
Culture provides direction, and reason. Throughout history, people have remained stalwart and true to
their roots and traditions. However, it has become evident that, with the changing environment, many
traditional practices have had to adapt. Climate change is a key component causing this adaptation.
Through reflecting upon environmental relativism, and cultural aspects, such as subsistence patterns,
economic systems, and religion and world view, it can be concluded that the natural environment
influences culture by causing environment based traditions to mould to external factors.
Environmental relativism can be defined as follows: the ways in which certain aspects of the physical
environment are relevant to cultures and traditions. It is how the environment relates to a culture
(personal communication, Kathy Rettie, September 7, 2017). The environment is an ever changing
system; it often cannot be predicted. Climate change, such as warmer winters, rising sea levels, and
changes in precipitation, provide evidence that the individuals affected by the physical environment
must change their way of life to adapt. This is particularly true for many nomadic cultures, who base
their survival off the changing weather

Identifying Potential Genres of Viral Videos Essay
Can a medium be a genre? If we casually substitute genre for more general synonyms like category,
class, or group, then the answer is yes, as demonstrated by the information architecture of online super
retailers like Amazon.com. Amazon subdivides its massive inventory first by medium, like Books or
Movies, before incrementally working toward a finer degree of granularity. Taking books as our
example medium, we can navigate by sub genres to find a title in Books Science Fiction Fantasy
Science Fiction Adventure. But this understanding of genre as synonym largely ignores the more
formal identification process performed within the established field of genre studies. Frow (2005)
provides several structural dimensions to use when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the absence of more helpful and readily definable structural dimensions structure of address, formal
features, thematic content that we could find in more traditional literary or film genres, we are forced
to determine whether viral videos constitute a genre by looking at which videos have gone viral to see
what, if anything, they have in common. These common elements are elusive, however, much to the
consternation of those seeking to cash in on this digital phenomenon.
Because of their ability to reach a large audience from a grassroots approach, viral videos are of
particular interest to marketing firms. And yet, a telling sign of why viral videos may not constitute a
genre is the inability of marketing gurus to define a set of must haves for producing a video that goes
viral, gaining popularity on its own apparent volition. This doesn t stop self proclaimed Internet
marketing experts from claiming they know what causes a clip to explode in popularity, using the
language of virality as a metaphor to describe how digital media spread. Elsewhere, I have criticized
this practice in depth, as have scholars like Henry Jenkins (2009) who argues instead for calling
Internet phenomena spreadable media because of the emphasis it places on human decisions to
popularize certain artifacts over others:
This winnowing down of cultural options is the product not

Rachel Ruyschs Still Life with Flowers on a Marble Tabletop
Good for a girl: Rachel Ruyschs Still Life with Flowers on a Marble Tabletop
In the early 16th century the Netherlands experienced what was called tulip mania this was the
beginning of the nations love for flora and foliage (Taylor 13). The result of this impressive flower
invasion was a society that took a historical turn from which the results still remain today. Flower
merchants, botanists and floral still life artists, were occupations that were an accurate reflection of the
Netherlands demands (Brown). An interesting example of a life that was effected by, and devoted to
the archiving of the flower craze was Rachel Ruysch (1664 1750) the 17th century Dutch flower
painter. Rachel Ruyschs career straddled the 17th and 18th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Early flower paintings tended to have static symmetrical compositions like the works of Ambrosius
Bosschaert (1573 1621), but flourished into more lively expressions when artists like Willem van
Aelst (1627 1687) started to make use of the S curve composition. While studying under van Aelst,
Ruysch employed the use the S curve, which distinguishes her paintings from less dynamic earlier
work. Ruyschs pieces also stand out because of her use of lighting. A spotlight is an appropriate
analogy for Ruyschs approach. One central point will be highlighted while the rest of her composition
lurks in the shadows. Her lighting technique distinguishes her work from later painters like Jan van
Huysum who moved towards the use of lighter backgrounds Still life with flowers 1 3). Ruyschs
works have qualities from both the 16th and 17th centuries, and are indicative of progression of the
Netherlands art. They confirm that the enthusiasm for floral painting was not short lived .
Although flower painting lived beyond the craze that sparked it, Rachel Ruysch did not. In the early
20th century Art History was deemed an academic discipline; however instead of accounting for a
variety of different histories that had occurred in art it became a select one pertaining to only male art.

The Supply And Demand For Metals Found At The Ocelot Mine
The supply and demand for metals found at the Ocelot Mine will vary by commodity although the
demand for all three is increasing. Zinc, in particular, shows the most potential for increase, as many
of the world s main producers are closing between the years 2015 and 2020 [16]. It is believed that
this will result in a gap between supply and demand. Already the demand is outweighing the supply,
and as such, zinc prices have increased dramatically. Silver and lead also show growth potential,
largely due to high demand from developing nations and the increase in the industrial sectors of these
countries. Being an operator in Peru also requires understanding what countries are buying Peru s
exports. China received 16.65% of the total value of Peru s exports in 2012 [22]. As such, the
continued growth of Peru s economy is largely dependent on the wellbeing of China s economy. A
slowdown in their economy would reduce the ability of producers to export their products. An
example of this can be seen in the financial crash of 2008 to 2009, which had a devastating impact on
the production of galvanized steel sheets. The global production decreased by 40% during this crisis,
as depicted in Figure 8.10. Since then the market has recovered approximately 65%, primarily due to
the growth in Chinese steel production [17]. This highlights the sensitivity of the zinc market to the
wellbeing of the Chinese economy. Figure 8.5: Historic production of galvanized steel [17] 8.4.

Bowling Ethnography
Heather Dooley 10 Pound Balls We tend to think that bowling is a very simple and boring sport played
by only older men. I did my fieldwork at a bowling alley during two different leagues to explore the
different social interactions among bowlers. I learned that bowling is not limited to one specific age
group or gender. I also discovered there is a unique hierarchy among the bowlers that is not
determined by their age or gender. This social status is dependent upon their bowling average, type of
ball used, and the weight of their balls. I found there were many other social interactions that occurred
between smaller groups of bowlers such as teammates. I first entered the field during a Wednesday

Some men used them as a way to brag to the other men. They would say the reason another man is

weight of their balls to poke fun at the other bowlers. They will compare their ball s weight to their
manhood or manliness. For instance, Wow, you re only using that little ten pound ball. Did you borrow
that from your girlfriend? Careful carrying that big sixteen pound ball you might not be big enough for
that yet. [pic] There are many different kinds of socialization among the bowlers. They joke and tease
each other, give tips on how to bowl better and they also play card games with their teammates. There
are two different types of games played among the different leagues. On Wednesday night they play a
game called Kiddy Pot. This is a money game played by the men bowlers only that corresponds to
how well you are playing. If you miss the five pin, throw a gutter ball, or miss the head pin twice you

Hand Influence On Mental Rotation
Introduction The purpose of this experiments was to study the effects of hand preference on mental
rotation. We did so by conducting an experiment where half of the participants were asked to use their
dominant hand to respond to images rotating at one of four degrees or to use their non dominant hand.
I hypothesize a main effect for angle and hand dominance as well as interaction between the two
variables in effecting the response time as well as the accuracy rate. In an experiment on the mental
rotation of three dimensional objects conducted by Shepard and Metzler(1971), the researchers were
looking more in depth of the rotation of these objects. They were either rotations of each object or

the mental rotation of both two dimensional and three dimensional object was conducted by Sonya
Regehr, Lyndon B.J.P. Smith, and Garth N. Smith (1985). They hypothesized that three dimensional
objects would be harder to mentally rotate than two dimensional objects. They found that response
time to mirrored objects were significantly less in the two dimensional objects than the three
dimensional objects. They were able to conclude that for larger degrees of rotation, the rate of mental
rotation for two dimensional objects is greater than those for three dimensional objects. In an
experiment comparing the differences in gender on mental rotation of three dimensional objects, S.
Marion Tapley and M.P. Bryden (1977) found that men had higher accuracy rates than women and that
the slope of function relating to the response time to degree of rotation was steeper in women. This
study suggests that frequent use of visual imagery was related to mental rotation rated in men and not

roles. In the book, Mexico an illustrated History it explains, Men were expected to be unflinching in

their world restricted to the household. Children were cherished, but taught to respect discipline and

Just like the Aztecs, Mexicans take their traditions very seriously. Mexicans also take the admiration

Affordable Food Argument Essay
The United States prides itself on its freedoms and the many rights it guarantees to its citizens. A
person has the right to religious freedom, to a trial by jury, to free speech, to free expression but what
about the right to healthful food? At this point, no right in the United States explicitly guarantees
citizens access to nutritious, affordable food. A possible reason for this is that guaranteeing equal
access to food across the nation is a daunting task. How does one even begin to accomplish such a
goal? But despite its difficulty, this is an end to which the nation must work. It is too important an
opportunity to miss because of indolence. Access to healthful, affordable food should be a right of
citizenship in the United States because the nation recognizes such access as a basic human right and
because such access is arguably a more important right than many that we currently enjoy. While
practically, realizing this goal will be a challenge, the United States can do so by simply protecting

Ontario Sex Education Curriculum Analysis
Being a parent is already hard enough, but adding social media into the equation, and suddenly topics
like: sexting, gender fluidity and anal sex are taking the foreground. In response to this unregulated
adult information, Service Ontario who made the Ontario Sex Education Curriculum has decided to
take necessary steps and include more similar topics into elementary schools.
All education has its own purpose, even sex education. According to Service Ontario, The revised
health and physical education curriculum is based on the vision that the knowledge and skills students
acquire in the program will benefit, throughout their lives and enable them to thrive in an ever
changing world by helping them ... lead healthy, active lives and promote healthy, ... Show more

The school leads the sex education and has the curriculum to first educate students. It is not only the
responsibility of the school or government; the parents also have responsibilities to teach their
children at home. According to A Parent s Guide, it says, Parents help their children form values about
relationships and behaviours and their sexual health. (Ontario, 2015) The schools, parents, and
communities are responsible for educations of children to feel involved in the changed and new
concept society has developed. Most parents tend to avoid this kind of communication with their
children. Parents are the most important role models to give the proper ideals on the issues. The results
and conclusions depend on the children, not the parents or communities. Parents should give the right
for the children to decide about the issues without forcing any specific opinions on them. Society
should give the opportunities to the children to face the challenges that come ahead, and make
decisions to solve problems based on the education they had in their childhood. With the decisions,
children or students can develop their ideas of the sexual issues and topics by themselves. Through
this stage, they are able to grow up further with

Gender Roles In Little Mommy
The views of the time about women and men in the workplace were reflected through the story Little
Mommy written in 1959. The story showed how women were the house keepers, the nurtures of the
children, and the person to care for the house. The man was viewed as independent. He made his own
money, bought his own cars, and held less of a role in his children s lives.
The author of this book showed a little girl being a mommy. Each page showed a task that a mommy
should perform. For example the little girl is shown playing with her babies (dolls), washing dishes,
sweeping the floor, and washing clothes. There is one page in the book that mentions the daddy. He is
shown in a car. The author explains that he works in the city then the author asks, if we as readers,
think that his car is pretty? Since this book was written in the late 50 s there was a large emphasis on
the woman being at home taking care of the house and the kids; while the father went to work to
provide money for his family. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the examples from this book that disturbed me the most was Boys invent things. Girls use the
things boys invent. These two pages of the book alone showed the sexism of the author. The author
was implying that boys are handymen and are capable of using their mind to invent things. He also is
implying that girls are not as smart as boys or incapable of inventing anything for themselves because
they are girls. The author went on to point out jobs that a boy or girl can have. Examples of this
include Boys as doctors. Girls are nurses. Boys are policemen. Girls are meter maids. Boys build
houses. Girls keep houses. While expressing what boys and what girls are expected to grow up to be
this teaches the readers that boys and girls are not equal. They are not allowed to be what they want to
be, but what their gender is expected to become based on society s

A Research Project On Project Management Essay
Introduction
Working in the industry I do I have found myself in the position of either initiating or participating the
process improvement projects. I feel that project management is a very broad term for any type of
project that a company, or individual, uses to implement a change or improvement to a product or
service. With this definition, I concluded that one of biggest projects I ever managed was when I was
approached and began participating in a Greenbelt (PMP) project for a process that I utilize daily
basis. The intention of this project was to eliminate email correspondence and create a more
streamlined form of communication from engineering to manufacturing in regards to change orders.
As the bill of materials specialist for the configuration management team and having 8+ years
experience in the field I was the first point of contact when it came to improvements or ideas.
Mission Statement
To begin a project a mission statement must be identified. A mission statement states the purpose of a
project its general direction and aims. (Leading Project Teams). A mission statement should be clear
and concise in nature and should establish the intention of the projects outcome. In this project the
mission statement, as mentioned above, was to ultimately to eliminate or reduce email correspondence
between departments. The mission statement indicated the project team responsible for completing
this project and the stakeholders who were responsible for the review and

Essay On Mama Joad In The Grapes Of Wrath
Mama Joad has proven herself to be one of the most involved and caring characters throughout the
The Grapes of Wrath written by John Steinbeck. Mama a woman who holds her family together and is
constantly showing her strengths. Even Pa noticed the authority that Mama showed. She is an example
of a strong mom that every family would hope to have. Within the Church, there are seven Catholic
Social Justice Teachings, which include: the life and dignity of the human person; call to family,
community, and participation; rights and responsibilities; option for the poor and vulnerable; the
dignity of work and the rights for workers; solidarity; and care for God s creation. A person who
exemplifies the above characteristics is someone who is attempting to lead the best life that they
possibly can. Mama Joad is a major character who lives by the seven tenets of Catholic Social Justice
Teaching, especially call to family, rights and responsibilities, and solidarity. Throughout the story, Ma
continues to show her love for her family, and follows Catholic Social Justice Teaching of call to
family, community, and participation. Ma portrays her call to family the most. While the Joads were
struggling to find gas money, a place to live, and suffering through the sadness of Grandpa s death,
She walked for the family and held her head straight up for the family (ch 13). Ma was able to hold
the family together unlike anyone else. Not even Pa has the type of ease and grace

A Rational Look at the Abortion Controversy Essay
A Rational Look at the Abortion Controversy
One of the most hotly contested issues inside and outside of biomedical ethics today is abortion. The
discussion received a new impetus at the release of the controversial abortion drug RU 486, a pill to
increase access to abortions and let women get them privately from their own doctor instead of facing
shouting protesters at clinics. 2 As is the case with all controversial issues, there are very passionate
people on both sides of the fence. Unfortunately, a heated discussion on abortion can easily and
quickly turn into a battle of rhetoric rather than a dialectic of reason. But the guiding light in such a
discussion must always be reason, not rhetoric or other fallacies, for only reason ... Show more content

Abortion is the unnatural termination of a pregnancy by killing (at least) one human fetus. This
definition is not contested, and I think it seems clear that it is correct. Science confirms that life begins
at conception,3 and that this life is human is a scientific as well as logical necessity, because it is the
product of two humans, and humans can only produce humans. Ergo, the fetus involved is human.
Secondly, the fetus is, at least scientifically speaking, a singular and individual organism, as evidenced
by his own unique genetic make up, which he shares with no other human being on earth (unless he
have an identical twin). There is thus an essential difference between a human fetus and, say, a tumor
or similar parasite. Finally, that the fetus is alive is confirmed through empirical observation, and
hence forcing that life to come to an end involves at least some sort of killing. Therefore, the
unavoidable conclusion is that abortion deliberately and forcibly puts to death a human being. Again,
this definition is uncontested and thus I shall not dwell on it any further. Rather, I shall now turn to the
moral implications necessarily connected with abortion.
The question that arises is as to whether or not abortion is morally justifiable. It cannot be wrong by
definition, since sometimes there is moral justification for forcibly putting to death another human
being, in such cases as self defense, just war, or capital

Segregation As Depicted In The Great Debaters
The Great Debaters is a fantastic true story with insight into the world of segregation during 1935. The
movie takes place in Marshall, Texas during 1935. We can see during the beginning of the movie that
there are obvious racial issues in the city because one of the main characters, James Farmer Jr., states
that Marshall, Texas was the last city to surrender after the Civil War, The movie is about a poet and
professor, Melvin B. Tolson, who teaches at the all black school called Wiley College. He was inspired
by the Harlem Renaissance decides to start a debate team, which was very taboo for a black college to
have back then. At first he butts heads with the influential father of one of his best debaters, James

lawyer should be versed in the kind of case that you re facing. A homicide expert might not be the
lawyer to bring in to defend a robbery or DUI. * Has trial experience if you think the case will go that
far. * Trust you. This, too, is important. If you get the feeling the criminal defense lawyer doesn t trust
you, it could be very difficult for the person to give you a solid defense even if he or she really tries.
When their heart isn t in it, it s your future that could be on the line. While it s impossible to tell

State Building
Sovereign State Formation and Stimulation of Increased Ethnic Conflict
This paper looks to examine parallels in the rise of ethnic tensions that have followed state building
efforts of multiple forms in regions that had legacies of colonial rule, traditionally independent states,
and newly independent states. In considering the potential for ethnic conflicts to become violent we
must consider the fact that the ethnic divisions have evolved in a longer running historical context that
includes the colonial and post colonial periods. As modern states have become institutionalized across
the Third World, the politicization and conflicting nature of ethnic divisions have taken on new
dimensions as the newly created states have taken up the mantles of aspiring to represent the entire
nation. (Wimmer, 1997) The role of ethnicity has played varying degrees of importance in either
solidifying or fragmenting the creation of national identities. Ethnic wars became increasingly
common in numbers in the years from 1950 1999, comprising 55 percent to 72 percent of all civil
wars during the period. Additionally, in the 1990s alone, more than 200 ethnic minorities and
subordinate majorities throughout the world were contesting their political status. (Johnson, 2008). As
new nations develop, ethnic conflict is often a key source of division within states for a variety of
causes.

CHAPTER I
THE DIVISION OF LABOUR.
When a work is broken down into much smaller work and distributed into individuals that specialize
in that work, we can achieve maximum productivity.
For example the work of making a computer program can be divided up into these assignments. 1. The
main programmer handles the Coding. 2. A debugger scans for errors and bugs within the program. 3.
The designer designs the interface of the program.
By using this example we can show how productivity works, because if all of those tasks will be ...

There are some works that are only available in large cities.
Example, In a big city a construction worker can specialize to a specific work, he only does the
welding of metals, while others do the cutting of metals, carrying the cement bags and etc.
A construction worker in a province would do almost all tasks related to construction welding, placing
the foundation, roofing, and finishing.
I was able to reconnect this to the computer Game I was playing, Assassin s Creed. In that game I own
a community where my workers produce Goods like timber, and different animal pelts and skins and
even meat. By means of water carriage a more wide market is opened to my community than what

inland cities.

Powerful Beacon Love Illuminating Human Attachment in Hemingway s A Farewell to Arms love is
not the central theme of the book. The topic that does reoccur and therefore proposes itself as the
central principle, however, is the idea associated behind the process of healing from pain. In the book,
both Frederic Henry and Catherine Barkley had to fight against pain during the times when Barkley
loses her first lover, when Henry suffers from the trench mortar trauma, and when Henry bids farewell
to the dying Barkley. In the opening pages of the book, Hemingway did a fantastic job in highlighting
Barkley s grief for her lost lover. Notably, Barkley had never met Henry before, but with his mention
of the stick which belonged to her fiance, she instinctively talked with anguish. He was a very nice
boy. He was going to marry me and he was killed in the Somme... He could have had anything he
wanted if I would have known (Hemingway 18 19). Even so, the next night she would allow Henry to
give her a kiss. Oh, darling, she said. You will be good to me, won t you? (Hemingway 27). To many
this would have appeared to be a romantic scene, but in reality, however, Barkley s mind is elsewhere;

Comparing Dionysius And Socrates
Ethics are what separates civilized men from savages, driving their decisions, and determining their
destiny. The actions of both Dionysius and Socrates, in both Bacchae and Phaedrus respectively, are
driven by their personal ethics and beliefs in justice. Bacchae, a Greek tragedy written by Euripides,
tells the story of the Greek God Dionysus s arrival to ancient city of Thebes, and the city s reaction
towards him and his strange religion. Phaedrus on the other hand is a dialogue, written by Plato, about
a series of arguments between Socrates and Phaedrus starting with what makes a good speech,
journeying into the fundamental understanding of the universe itself. Dionysius, the protagonist of
Bacchae, having returned from south east Asia, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

what separates him from the other gods, in that he acknowledges the harm his actions will bring to
Thebes, promising to undo all the damage upon their acceptance of him, while most of the other gods
would leave after satisfying their quest for vengeance. The most important line in this quote is the last
sentence I ve transformed myself, assumed a mortal shape, altered my looks, so I resemble any human

forcing or scaring the people into compliance. So, Dionysius starts out with good intentions, he wants
to gain willing followers into his religion, achieve justice for the defamation of his mother, and be

Comparing Parkinson´s Disease And Huntington s Disease
Two Diseases, One Hope: Fetal Neural Transplantation in the Treatment of Parkinson s and
Huntington s Disease
Parkinson s Disease (PD) and Huntington s Disease (HD) are neurodegenerative diseases that are
caused by malfunctions within the motor sector of the nervous system. These malfunctions, which are
caused either by the surplus (as in HD) or absence (as in PD) of hormones, are a direct result of neural
cell deterioration within the brain. PD and HD illustrate two very different behavioral patterns that are
subsequently caused by two opposite and extreme biological abnormalities. Yet the common thread
between the two conditions is that there are major mechanical predicaments arising between cellular
connections within the brain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Information from the nigra cells passes through the synapses with the aid of a specific hormone,
dopamine, which is a significant chemical transmitter in the brain. Because the existence of dopamine
is essential to the function of the substania nigra, it is also essential for the various muscular activities
controlled by the striatum, such as walking, balance, etc. (16).
In Parkinson s Disease and Huntington s disease the nigra striatum neural communication assemblage
is severely hampered. PD results from a depletion in the amount of dopamine produced by the brain.
At the onset of the disease, dopamine secreting cells of the substania nigra, either because of genetic
factors or environmental toxins, experience mass cell death. Thus, the nigra cells are unable to form
synapses through which they secrete and relay dopamine to the striatum in a neural circuit within the
basal ganglia (18).
HD, in contrast, is not a condition offset by the environment, as PD is thought to be. It is indeed a
condition due to cell death in the brain (basal ganglia) but is caused by an abnormal gene that codes
for a mutant protein called huntingtin. Huntingtin, thus, interferes with normal brain cell functions by
causing a depletion in neural cellular energy and neural death (12)(9).
Another example of how HD can be described as being the opposite condition to PD, has to do with
both behavioral and biological symptoms of the neurodegenerative

Beowulf And King Arthur Analysis
Beowulf versus King Arthur
Courage, perseverance, and honor are all traits of a hero. Beowulf and King Arthur both share many
qualities of a hero. The epic of Beowulf is about a great Geat that defeats the horrid Grendel of
Denmark. The story, Once and Future King, is about the great King Arthur and how he became king
and his reign in England. Beowulf is a fearless leader that defeats great monsters and deadly giants.
Later in his life he defeats Grendel, Grendel s mother, and a dragon. King Arthur was the outcast in his
family; he did not fit in as a child. As he grows older, his tutor Merlyn teaches him about different
values in life. King Arthur, formally known as Wart, becomes king when he pulls the famous sword
from the stone. Both Beowulf and King Arthur shared many traits that made them epic heros.
Courage is a trait shared by Beowulf and King Arthur or Wart . Beowulf showed courage through the
many battles he fought . Beowulf went to Heorot in hopes of defeating Grendel, the monster that had
been attacking Herot for the last twelve years. This was courageous because he knew that he could be
killed, but he fought anyway because that s what he needed to do. Wart showed courage when he
pulled the sword out of the stone. He did not want to be King of England, let alone at such a young
age. He wanted to put the sword back in the stone or let someone else become King. Wart was
courageous and became King because he knew that was his duty. These examples show that courage

In total, Hitler and his followers killed 11 million people. 6 million of them Jewish and 1 million children(Wikipedia). Jews were trying to flee from the country. Cuba denied entry to the usual docking areas for the ship. Due to the restriction, the ship dropped anchor and spent six long days docked just outside of the harbor. After a long wait, the Cuban government granted any passengers with a visa, access to Cuba. Twenty two of the twenty nine passengers that Cuba had given entry to were Jewish and had valid U.S. visas. The six other passengers included four Spanish citizens and two Cuban nationals that had the documents that allowed them valid entry. During this time, they brought the one passenger who attempted to commit suicide to a hospital in Havana. For the remaining 908 passengers, the Cuban government would not allow them access. Florida Next, the ship circled around Florida. The Captain persisted and persevered through this trip to find refuge for the passengers. Schröder even considered going close to the shore of Florida to allow the refugees to jump off the ship and swim to shore, but the U.S. Coast Guard made this impossible by watching them. The St. Louis was denied access to Cuba but also the U.S.; where they sent a warning shot to keep the ship off the shores in Florida. According to the law, the refugees could not enter the U.S. on tourist visas either because they did not have any return addresses. Social Factors That Changed The World Clothing became less expensive in the 1960 s because of the Industrial Revolution, so more people are seen being involved in popular fashion trends and expressing themselves in ways they please because of the affordability. The sharply angled Vidal Sassoon hair style where women cut their hair shorter and styled it in an angular way. This decade also started the trend of people wanting to look skinnier. Designers preferred models looked younger, thinner, and had longer legs. Social factors occurring at the time also effected fashion and helped represent people s beliefs. André Courrège s came out with many new fashions that reflected America s involvement in the Space Race with Russia during that time and our achievement for having sent a person to the moon. This space age caused Courrège to come out with designs that resemble space suits which included: silver sequined pants, white plastic like boots, and white sunglasses with slits. Courrège also came out with a regular suit that had a geometrically cut jacket and angled collar which became a big hit. • 7. Foreign Affairs And Foreign Trade MEMORANDUM To: Honorable Maxine McClean, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade From: Monica Perez Date: November 14, 2015 RE: Engaging in trilateral cooperation: Mitigating the Chinese threat to U.S. hegemony in Latin America STATEMENT OF ISSUE: Barbados is a net importing developing country (NIDC) with food imports significantly exceeding food exports. As in most Caribbean islands, domestic agricultural output and food processing is limited. Barbados relies on imports of practically the full range of food products to meet the needs of its population. In fact, Barbados imports 70% of its food, over a third of which comes from the United States. As a result, food security in terms of food self sufficiency and self reliance is severely lacking. Moreover, the expanding tourism sector further fuels the demand for U.S. food products. U.S. exports to Barbados of snacks, dairy products, processed fruits vegetables, fruit vegetable juices, and seafood products have all registered increases since 2010. Fresh, chilled and frozen red meat products are also an important product category which increased by 150% since 2010. These food imports, particularly those of processed foods, are often associated with increasing weight and higher rates of chronic non communicable diseases (obesity, diabetes, hypertension, stroke, heart disease, and cancer). Within the Barbadian population, the increased consumption of animal fats, sugar products and salt from processed foods has led ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. My Experience At The Fire Department Of New York Essay The single greatest event that to this point that has shaped my life is clearly September 11, 2001. Not, moment in a given day do not think about that day and how it changed me as a person. I worked twenty years for the Fire Department of New York, I cannot say I got there by my intelligence or physical prowess it was dumb luck on a civil service exam. My retirement was very simple first when I was a teenager my family summered in Wells Beach I ha d gotten a summer job at the local beach market known as Ben s Market I worked there four summers. My dream was when I would retire I would buy the market from Ben. In the 1993 Ben got a divorce from his wife three years later the market was in trouble with the bank and it went into foreclosure. Again as dumb luck would have it my father told me about this and I bid on the proper at auction and somehow won the bid. This is now 1995 more than several years before I had planned on retiring; however one of the perks of being a firefighter is that we only work 96 days a year. Or another way of looking at it is I worked 8 days a month. So to work the market for three months during the summer I would have to find swaps for 24 days. So for the last five years of working at the firehouse I would swap out shirts during the fall and winter to cover my time. The next part of my retirement plan was that I would work summers and my wife and I would travel the rest of the time. Secretly, I wanted to talk my wife into sell the home we have in ... • 12. The Natural Environment How does the natural environment influence culture? There is a myriad of varying definitions for the word culture. Instead of defining culture in general terms, it is often defined by how it is related to the environment; and consequently, how it is affected. Culture provides direction, and reason. Throughout history, people have remained stalwart and true to their roots and traditions. However, it has become evident that, with the changing environment, many traditional practices have had to adapt. Climate change is a key component causing this adaptation. Through reflecting upon environmental relativism, and cultural aspects, such as subsistence patterns, economic systems, and religion and world view, it can be concluded that the natural environment influences culture by causing environment based traditions to mould to external factors. Environmental relativism can be defined as follows: the ways in which certain aspects of the physical environment are relevant to cultures and traditions. It is how the environment relates to a culture (personal communication, Kathy Rettie, September 7, 2017). The environment is an ever changing system; it often cannot be predicted. Climate change, such as warmer winters, rising sea levels, and changes in precipitation, provide evidence that the individuals affected by the physical environment must change their way of life to adapt. This is particularly true for many nomadic cultures, who base their survival off the changing weather ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Identifying Potential Genres of Viral Videos Essay Can a medium be a genre? If we casually substitute genre for more general synonyms like category, class, or group, then the answer is yes, as demonstrated by the information architecture of online super retailers like Amazon.com. Amazon subdivides its massive inventory first by medium, like Books or Movies, before incrementally working toward a finer degree of granularity. Taking books as our example medium, we can navigate by sub genres to find a title in Books Science Fiction Fantasy Science Fiction Adventure. But this understanding of genre as synonym largely ignores the more formal identification process performed within the established field of genre studies. In the absence of more helpful and readily definable structural dimensions structure of address, formal features, thematic content that we could find in more traditional literary or film genres, we are forced to determine whether viral videos constitute a genre by looking at which videos have gone viral to see what, if anything, they have in common. These common elements are elusive, however, much to the consternation of those seeking to cash in on this digital phenomenon. Because of their ability to reach a large audience from a grassroots approach, viral videos are of particular interest to marketing firms. And yet, a telling sign of why viral videos may not constitute a genre is the inability of marketing gurus to define a set of must haves for producing a video that goes viral, gaining popularity on its own apparent volition. This doesn t stop self proclaimed Internet marketing experts from claiming they know what causes a clip to explode in popularity, using the language of virality as a metaphor to describe how digital media spread. Elsewhere, I have criticized this practice in depth, as have scholars like Henry Jenkins (2009) who argues instead for calling Internet phenomena spreadable media because of the emphasis it places on human decisions to popularize certain artifacts over others: This winnowing down of cultural options is the product not ... While studying under van Aelst, Ruysch employed the use the S curve, which distinguishes her paintings from less dynamic earlier work. Ruyschs pieces also stand out because of her use of lighting. Zinc, in particular, shows the most potential for increase, as many of the world s main producers are closing between the years 2015 and 2020 [16]. It is believed that this will result in a gap between supply and demand. Already the demand is outweighing the supply, and as such, zinc prices have increased dramatically. Silver and lead also show growth potential, largely due to high demand from developing nations and the increase in the industrial sectors of these countries. Being an operator in Peru also requires understanding what countries are buying Peru s exports. China received 16.65% of the total value of Peru s exports in 2012 [22]. As such, the continued growth of Peru s economy is largely dependent on the wellbeing of China s economy. A slowdown in their economy would reduce the ability of producers to export their products. An example of this can be seen in the financial crash of 2008 to 2009, which had a devastating impact on the production of galvanized steel sheets. The global production decreased by 40% during this crisis, as depicted in Figure 8.10. Since then the market has recovered approximately 65%, primarily due to the growth in Chinese steel production [17]. A person has the right to religious freedom, to a trial by jury, to free speech, to free expression but what about the right to healthful food? Abortion is the unnatural termination of a pregnancy by killing (at least) one human fetus. This definition is not contested, and I think it seems clear that it is correct. Science confirms that life begins at conception,3 and that this life is human is a scientific as well as logical necessity, because it is the product of two humans, and humans can only produce humans. Ergo, the fetus involved is human. Secondly, the fetus is, at least scientifically speaking, a singular and individual organism, as evidenced by his own unique genetic make up, which he shares with no other human being on earth (unless he have an identical twin). There is thus an essential difference between a human fetus and, say, a tumor or similar parasite. Finally, that the fetus is alive is confirmed through empirical observation, and hence forcing that life to come to an end involves at least some sort of killing. Therefore, the unavoidable conclusion is that abortion deliberately and forcibly puts to death a human being. Again, this definition is uncontested and thus I shall not dwell on it any further. Rather, I shall now turn to the moral implications necessarily connected with abortion. The question that arises is as to whether or not abortion is morally justifiable. Michael Snyder State Building Sovereign State Formation and Stimulation of Increased Ethnic Conflict This paper looks to examine parallels in the rise of ethnic tensions that have followed state building efforts of multiple forms in regions that had legacies of colonial rule, traditionally independent states, and newly independent states. In considering the potential for ethnic conflicts to become violent we must consider the fact that the ethnic divisions have evolved in a longer running historical context that includes the colonial and post colonial periods. As modern states have become institutionalized across the Third World, the politicization and conflicting nature of ethnic divisions have taken on new dimensions as the newly created states have taken up the mantles of aspiring to represent the entire nation. (Wimmer, 1997) The role of ethnicity has played varying degrees of importance in either solidifying or fragmenting the creation of national identities. Ethnic wars became increasingly common in numbers in the years from 1950 1999, comprising 55 percent to 72 percent of all civil wars during the period. Additionally, in the 1990s alone, more than 200 ethnic minorities and subordinate majorities throughout the world were contesting their political status. (Johnson, 2008). The designer designs the interface of the program. By using this example we can show how productivity works, because if all of those tasks will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Likely a farmer will live nearby, so a person will hire the farmer to do all the work rather than doing it themselves. This reinforces the ability of the farmers to specialize in their work. Sufficient business gt;Sufficient workers gt;close distance with both parties gt;People utilizes the Farmers specialty in farming. There are some works that are only available in large cities. Example, In a big city a construction worker can specialize to a specific work, he only does the welding of metals, while others do the cutting of metals, carrying the cement bags and etc. A construction worker in a province would do almost all tasks related to construction welding, placing the foundation, roofing, and finishing. I was able to reconnect this to the computer Game I was playing, Assassin s Creed. In that game I own a community where my workers produce Goods like timber, and different animal pelts and skins and even meat. By means of water carriage a more wide market is opened to my community than what land carriage alone can afford. Throughout history the seacoast cities have developed much faster than inland cities. CHAPTER IV THE ORIGIN AND USE OF MONEY From chapter I III the division of labor has become established, A cloth maker will not be able to produce his own food if he is consistently occupied working with his time. Forces him to trade with the farmer who produces crops and foods for his own and for trade, so the society

  • 33. Illuminating Human Attachment In Ernest Hemingway s A... A Farewell to Arms In Ernest Hemingway s fiction book A Farewell to Arms the reader follows protagonist Frederic Henry through his continuously winding journey. This colorful wartime book possesses many themes, but contrary to the idea hinted behind Joel Armstrong s literary criticism A Powerful Beacon Love Illuminating Human Attachment in Hemingway s A Farewell to Arms love is not the central theme of the book. The topic that does reoccur and therefore proposes itself as the central principle, however, is the idea associated behind the process of healing from pain. In the book, both Frederic Henry and Catherine Barkley had to fight against pain during the times when Barkley loses her first lover, when Henry suffers from the trench mortar trauma, and when Henry bids farewell to the dying Barkley. In the opening pages of the book, Hemingway did a fantastic job in highlighting Barkley s grief for her lost lover. Notably, Barkley had never met Henry before, but with his mention of the stick which belonged to her fiance, she instinctively talked with anguish. He was a very nice boy. He was going to marry me and he was killed in the Somme... He could have had anything he wanted if I would have known (Hemingway 18 19). Even so, the next night she would allow Henry to give her a kiss. Oh, darling, she said. You will be good to me, won t you? (Hemingway 27). To many this would have appeared to be a romantic scene, but in reality, however, Barkley s mind is elsewhere; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Comparing Dionysius And Socrates Ethics are what separates civilized men from savages, driving their decisions, and determining their destiny. The actions of both Dionysius and Socrates, in both Bacchae and Phaedrus respectively, are driven by their personal ethics and beliefs in justice. Bacchae, a Greek tragedy written by Euripides, tells the story of the Greek God Dionysus s arrival to ancient city of Thebes, and the city s reaction towards him and his strange religion. Phaedrus on the other hand is a dialogue, written by Plato, about a series of arguments between Socrates and Phaedrus starting with what makes a good speech, journeying into the fundamental understanding of the universe itself. Dionysius, the protagonist of Bacchae, having returned from south east Asia, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dionysius here is essentially listing the injustices he as suffered by the city of Thebes, promising to make undo any harm he causes after being accepted, warns that his rejection will result in his wrath, and finally disguises himself as preacher to find willing followers. Dionysius views on justice are what separates him from the other gods, in that he acknowledges the harm his actions will bring to Thebes, promising to undo all the damage upon their acceptance of him, while most of the other gods would leave after satisfying their quest for vengeance. The most important line in this quote is the last sentence I ve transformed myself, assumed a mortal shape, altered my looks, so I resemble any human being (70 73) , in that he wants people to choose to follow him out of their own free will, rather than forcing or scaring the people into compliance. So, Dionysius starts out with good intentions, he wants to gain willing followers into his religion, achieve justice for the defamation of his mother, and be worshiped by other, but is forced to make good on his promise to ... Comparing Parkinson´s Disease And Huntington s Disease Two Diseases, One Hope: Fetal Neural Transplantation in the Treatment of Parkinson s and Huntington s Disease Parkinson s Disease (PD) and Huntington s Disease (HD) are neurodegenerative diseases that are caused by malfunctions within the motor sector of the nervous system. These malfunctions, which are caused either by the surplus (as in HD) or absence (as in PD) of hormones, are a direct result of neural cell deterioration within the brain. PD and HD illustrate two very different behavioral patterns that are subsequently caused by two opposite and extreme biological abnormalities. Yet the common thread between the two conditions is that there are major mechanical predicaments arising between cellular connections within the brain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Information from the nigra cells passes through the synapses with the aid of a specific hormone, dopamine, which is a significant chemical transmitter in the brain. Because the existence of dopamine is essential to the function of the substania nigra, it is also essential for the various muscular activities controlled by the striatum, such as walking, balance, etc. (16). In Parkinson s Disease and Huntington s disease the nigra striatum neural communication assemblage is severely hampered. PD results from a depletion in the amount of dopamine produced by the brain. At the onset of the disease, dopamine secreting cells of the substania nigra, either because of genetic factors or environmental toxins, experience mass cell death. Thus, the nigra cells are unable to form synapses through which they secrete and relay dopamine to the striatum in a neural circuit within the basal ganglia (18). HD, in contrast, is not a condition offset by the environment, as PD is thought to be. It is indeed a condition due to cell death in the brain (basal ganglia) but is caused by an abnormal gene that codes for a mutant protein called huntingtin. Huntingtin, thus, interferes with normal brain cell functions by causing a depletion in neural cellular energy and neural death (12)(9). Another example of how HD can be described as being the opposite condition to PD, has to do with both behavioral and biological symptoms of the neurodegenerative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Beowulf And King Arthur Analysis Beowulf versus King Arthur Courage, perseverance, and honor are all traits of a hero. Beowulf and King Arthur both share many qualities of a hero. The epic of Beowulf is about a great Geat that defeats the horrid Grendel of Denmark. The story, Once and Future King, is about the great King Arthur and how he became king and his reign in England. Beowulf is a fearless leader that defeats great monsters and deadly giants. Later in his life he defeats Grendel, Grendel s mother, and a dragon. King Arthur was the outcast in his family; he did not fit in as a child. As he grows older, his tutor Merlyn teaches him about different values in life. King Arthur, formally known as Wart, becomes king when he pulls the famous sword from the stone. Both Beowulf and King Arthur shared many traits that made them epic heros. Courage is a trait shared by Beowulf and King Arthur or Wart . Beowulf showed courage through the many battles he fought . Beowulf went to Heorot in hopes of defeating Grendel, the monster that had been attacking Herot for the last twelve years. This was courageous because he knew that he could be killed, but he fought anyway because that s what he needed to do. Wart showed courage when he pulled the sword out of the stone. He did not want to be King of England, let alone at such a young age. He wanted to put the sword back in the stone or let someone else become King. Wart was courageous and became King because he knew that was his duty. These examples show that courage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
