This document discusses collaboration and group decision support systems (GDSS). It defines GDSS as a computer-based system that facilitates solving unstructured problems by a group. GDSS aims to support group activities, minimize process losses, and be easy to learn and use. However, GDSS may induce process and task losses if team participants have different backgrounds or if a few members dominate. Effective GDSS requires attention to participant quality and management of conflicts that can arise from differing interests or understandings among group members.
