Explain Why the Arab Invasions of 710 and 711 Were so...
Explain why the Arab invasions of 710 and 711 were so successful. In answering this question we
must first appreciate the difficulty historians face in discovering the real truth of the early Arab
invasions, a fact well demonstrated in the varying estimates of Arab invasion forces (ranging from
1,700 9000 in current publications). Scant contemporary evidence exists beyond a short narrative
present in a Spanish chronicle of 754, a vital surviving Islamic administrative document of the time,
and some archaeological remains. Our knowledge of the invasions is largely founded on the works of
later Islamic historians, the Ajbar Machmua text for example and the works of Ibn Idhari and al
Maqqari. Unfortunately there are fewer Christian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The existence of a rival claimant caused dangerous divisions throughout the kingdom and in Akhila s
demesne land of Tarragona and Narbonne coins were minted without the king s image, a clear
measure of defiance. It is also reported in some sources that during the invasion Akhila conspired with
the Arabs to depose Roderic. Some go as far as to say that during the final battle a wing of Roderic s
army loyal to Akhila turned on him in the midst of the fighting. Whether this is true can hardly be
proven but something catastrophic must have happened for the King s army supposedly far larger than
Tarik s (Estimates 24,000 30,000 ) to suffer such a devastating defeat. Many historians support the
idea that elements within the Visigothic nobility gave assistance to the invaders probably as a means
of removing Roderic. It is unlikely however that they foresaw the long term implications of the
invasion and the extension of Muslim presence in Iberia. It is argued that as well as the problems the
succession dispute posed, the very fabric of Visigothic society itself was weak. It is suggested that the
Visgothic nobility of the time, who had placed themselves above the native Hispano Roman
population in terms of rights and privileges, were suffering a backlash from the lower sections of
society. Incidents of rebellion had increased as had the number of slaves deserting their Lords. Many
runaways turned to outlawry and as a consequence

Essay on The Author to Her Book by Anne Bradstreet
The Author to Her Book by Anne Bradstreet
In The Author to Her Book, Bradstreet is inundated in indecision and internal struggles over the
virtues and shortfalls of her abilities and the book that she produced. As human beings we associate
and sympathize with each other through similar experiences. It is difficult to sympathize with
someone when you don t know where they are coming from and don t know what they are dealing
with. Similar experiences and common bonds are what allow us to extend our sincere appreciation and
understanding for another human being s situation. In this poem an elaborate struggle between pride
and shame manifests itself through an extended metaphor in which she equates her book to her own
child.
The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She says that the child had been by her side until snatched from thence by friends, less wise than true
(line 3). Basically she is saying a trusted person snatched her work from her without permission to
take them to England to be printed. Had it not been for her brother in law taking her work back to
England and getting them printed they may have never been known. The intimacy and feeling she
shares with her work is like that of a mother and child and that bond was infringed upon when her
work was exposed to public view (line 4). The intrusion of her brother in law getting her work printed
is the cause of feeling that follow. Ironically the next thing she talks is the shame she has been thrust
upon her by not being able to perfect the work before it was published. This is illustrated in line five
where she writes, Made thee in rags, as to say her work is like a child dressed in rags.
In lines six through nine Bradstreet associates the embarrassment she feels due to her unperfected
work to the embarrassment a parent feels due to an irritable child. She feels ashamed that the errors
were not lessened (line 6) before the work was printed and refers to it as a rambling brat who is one
unfit for light (line 8 9) because her child was taken from her before she had time to prepare it to go
out into the world. She is

Pros And Cons Of Airport Security
Just recently there has been uproar over airport security and the use of body scanners on passengers.
After 9/11 many airlines have toughen up their security measures in order to prevent this tragic
accident to ever occur again. In order to improve security and make our lives a lot safer airlines have
implemented many different types of technology. Technology aids airline security to see what
passengers are possibly carrying under their clothing. Making passengers go through X Ray
screenings can not only prevent passengers from boarding a plane with harmful equipment but it can
also deter the thought of someone actually making an attempt to board while carrying a weapon. Other
technological advancements such as surveillance cameras are being ... Show more content on

Steve Harvey Research Paper
Though many people know him from the drastic Miss Universe incident, it is certainly not the
defining point of Steve Harvey s career. From the successful Family Feud host to Steve Harvey s
morning show, he has created a household name for himself and continues to bring comedy to the
world. He once also had over 500 suits in various colors and cuts, but he is most remembered for his
comedy. I believe that the long lasting legacy of Steve Harvey is bringing comedy to the world,
starting the Steve and Marjorie Harvey foundation, and being an example of hard work pays off.
Born Broderick Steven Harvey to Eloise and Jesse Harvey in Welch, West Virginia, on January 17,
1957, he was the youngest of five children. Unfortunately, his father died in ... Show more content on

He won the contest and was then told by his supervisor, Steve, you haven t said anything funny in all

Starting his career in stand up comedy, was difficult for him, only making $25 a night sleeping in his
car and showering in gas stations and pool showers. Harvey is the perfect example of hard work pays
off because he soon landed an agent and his career took off from there. Steve Harvey has found much
success in comedy. In 1993, he took over as the host of Showtime at the Apollo until 2000, and also at
that time he got his own sitcom, The Steve Harvey Show that lasted until 2000 (Steve Harvey). He has
also appeared in numerous TV shows and movies. Surprisingly, Steve Harvey has also written many
relationship advice, including best sellers, act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man (2009) and Straight
Talk, No Chaser (2010). These books take a comedic side to the typical relationship books. In 2010,
Steve Harvey won another iconic TV role, taking over as host of the game show Family Feud. Harvey
has won countless awards for his roles in television and in movies. He has been nominated for awards
16 times and won 14 awards in his career (Steve Harvey Biography). To say the least, without being
dared to enter that comedy contest, he would not be as nearly as successful as he is

Ten Days that Unexpectedly Changed America Summary Essay
Ten Days That Unexpectedly Changed America Chapter Summaries Chapter 1: Massacre at Mystic
May 26, 1637 was a fateful day in the history of America. The actions of Major John Mason and his
Puritan men set a precedent for the next two hundred years of European and Indian relations. On that
clear May night near the Mystic River of New England, hundreds of Pequot Indians were killed by the
Europeans and their allies, most of the victims being the elderly, women, and children. This massacre
was a massive turning point in the Pequot War, effectively ruining the tribe. Already weakened by
disease and by competing native tribes, the Pequot were quickly routed and by September 21, 1638
the war ended with the Treaty of Hartford. The treaty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Chapter 2: Shays Rebellion Everyone knows that the Constitution is one of the most important
documents in American history, but many people have never heard of Daniel Shays. Daniel Shays, a
Revolutionary War veteran turned farmer, lived in Western Massachusetts after the war. He had
planned on retiring from his military life from which he had fought for the ideals of the revolution.
However, he was drawn back into military life fighting against the very government he battled to
create. After the Revolutionary War, the Articles of Confederation were created to govern the new
nation. The states were loosely tied together by a weak national government that had little applicable
power. The states were left to individually find ways to pay for their war debts. Massachusetts did so
by heavily taxing its people. The taxes were so heavy that in many cases people were paying more
than they had paid under British rule. Daniel Shays, feeling outraged and betrayed, helped to organize
the already present groups of fellow angry farmers into a rebel army. His army numbered close to
2,000 men. January 25, 1787 was to be the day that Shays would lead his men to attack the federal
arsenal at Springfield. Due to communication difficulties, about 400 of Shays men were not

USSS Strength Training Program
Strength Training: The Secret Service has created a strength training workout to assist you in building
a strong base that will prepare you for your training and everyday duties. This program is not designed
to make you a body builder but to assist you in gaining strength to pass the USSS standards for the
Physical Fitness Program. It is important to build the muscle necessary to complete push ups and pull
ups.
Strength Training is also called resistance training because it involves strengthening and toning your
muscles by contracting them against a resisting force. Remember with strength training your muscles
need time to recover so it should be done on opposite days if possible. On those alternate days is when
you should be completing endurance training. If you do not put in the work you will not pass the
USSS Physical Fitness Test.

A pull workout is defined as muscle groups that contract as the weight is pulled toward the body and
lengthens as the weight is extended away from the body.
We recommend a class push pull split workout to simplify your training and obtain faster results. You
should organize your workouts according to pushing and pulling movements. An example of a push
exercise would be chest, shoulder and triceps. A pull movement would be biceps, back, and
hamstrings. The push pull split workout allows you to hit the gym more often because the muscles you
are working are not sore from overuse.
Depending on the flexibility of your schedule some individuals chose to focus their routine on specific
areas such as chest, legs, upper or lower body. The key to splits can be identified in resting the area of
the body most recently exercised, while still hitting the gym each day: ie. Chest Mon, Back Tues, Legs

Medicine and Cardiology
Cardiology is mainly perceived as a study of the functions and disorders of the heart. However, it is
really much more than that. Since 13,000 B.C. medicine has been a thriving area of study. Even more
specifically than that, the heart has been a thriving area of study. As a result of the heart being the
organ that keeps one alive, numerous physicians from the past and the present strived to decipher the
heart. Since the heart has yet to be completely figured out, cardiology proves to be a promising career
in the future. In the beginning of time, herbalism was the first known form of medicine. At the time
however it was more seen as a type of religion. Many people thought diseases were caused by the
gods when they were angry. Therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This contributed to cardiology as a practice of medicine because people were able to make diagnosis
about the heart. In 1816, Rene T.H. Laennec invented the stethoscope. This also contributed to
cardiology as a practice of medicine. In 1903, William Einthoven invented the electrocardiograph.
This led to cardiology as a medicine because it helped take down the rhythms of a heart to make sure
that one s heart was just the right speed. (Occupational Outlook Handbook) In 1912, James Herrick
took a huge step in the right direction when he discovered how heart disease occurs. From his
research, he came up with the idea of hardening of the arteries and its contributions to affecting the
heart. He realized that heart diseases occur when arteries aren t functioning correctly. Therefore, if
arteries were hardening blood flow couldn t flow normally and the heart would loose blood and
oxygen resulting in a diseased heart. (History of Medicine) In 1938, Robert E. Gross performed the
first heart surgery. He performed the surgery on the great vessels near the heart. This was monumental
in cardiology history. With this, many other heart surgeries were able to be performed. In 1951,
Charles Hufnagel developed a plastic valve to fix an aortic valve. (History of Medicine +
Occupational Outlook Handbook)
In 1952, F. John Lewis performed the first open heart surgery. This was a huge event in the history of
cardiology. Not only did Lewis perform the surgery, but

Analysis Of Frost s Poem Frost
This was not a coincidence. The irony utilized by Frost clearly contributes to the overall theme of
design governing situations on earth. Frost also utilizes tone to emphasize the horrific nature of the
scene while speaking in a seemingly light manner. Frost s diction can be divided into two major
categories: whimsical and light, and dark. This contrast contributes to the irony of the scene as well.
Specific word choices in the octave show this clearly. Frost employs light, pleasant, and whimsical
words like dimpled, fat, snow drop, froth, and kite (7). These seem to set a tone reminiscent of a
nursery rhyme; however, these are combined with other words that have dark and evil connotations.
These include rigid, death, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator begins to analyze and question the scene that he is viewing, and begins to relate it to
concepts like fate, design and supernatural control. The tone of the sestet can be identified through the
questions the narrator asks. The first question is of annoyance and slight confusion. The flower is the
subject of this confusion. As a heal all, its proper color is blue, and should not have been white. This is
the first clue that suggests the involvement of something other than random chance. The blue had been
cast aside and forgotten, and the narrator views the flower as innocent. It had been implicated in such
an awful event by no fault of its own. This raises the question of whose fault it actually was. The next
seems harsh and sinister, questioning what force or chance brought the spider to the top of the flower,
and then why the moth flew straight into its grasps. Height normally shows superiority, but in this
context, it is negative. The evil spider is high up on a mutated flower, in the perfect place at the perfect
time to catch dinner. It seems hard to believe that random chance brought the spider to that particular
flower. The next part of the question concerns the moth and what force caused it to come into contact
with the spider and flower. The identical color of the flower, moth, and spider further contributes
evidence to the conclusion that this situation

Bon Secours reconsidered the acquisition in light of its mission statement that emphasized a caring

that Your Company is Willing to Live, Harvard Management Update, March 2002.) Typically, for a
NPO what is also important is that who writes the mission statement. Considering only senior
management or executives could be one answer, but I believe that since a NPO does most of its
operational work largely through volunteers and less through employees, it becomes important to have
representation of this constituency as well. The closer the mission statement is to what these
volunteers considers is important for their end customers, the more likely is the high quality of the
output and easier to continue recruiting volunteers. However, since many of the large NPO that we
know and will discuss in this paper have been existing for decades, it also makes sense to evaluate
mission statements in the context of emerging needs of the customers every 20 30 years. This doesn t
imply major shifts in the mission statement, but indicates adding newer dimensions/nuances to the
same by evaluating: * Is the mission up to date? Does it reflect what the

The Repercussions Of Feminism
G.D. Anderson once said that, Feminism isn t about making women strong. Women are already strong.
It s about changing the way the world perceives that strength. The idea of feminism is one that has
evolved significantly throughout history; from suffrage rights to feminist campaigns, different
historical periods have different legacies in the development of feminism. When reflecting on various
historical time periods, there have been several distinct legacies, all of which have had a lasting
impact on society in both the past and the present. During the Romantic Era in particular, the ideas of
feminism started to blossom within the common people. The once taboo notions of women s rights
and gender equality were slowly becoming more prevalent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The atmosphere of the Romantic era, which was vibrating with ideas focusing around individual
liberty, was an ideal opportunity for feminists to advance the thought of women being perceived as
equals in society. Advocates for women s rights attempted to further their goals by arguing that
equality should be a logical extension of liberty. If individual liberty was considered a human right,
then it should therefore also apply to women in order to be correct; to them it seemed undeniable that
the term individual included all individuals, regardless of race, gender, or religion. Concerning this
issue, Mary Wollstonecraft further inquired if it was, not inconsistent and unjust to subjugate women,
even though you firmly believe that you are acting in the manner best calculated to promote their
happiness? Who made man the exclusive judge, if women partake with him the gift of reason? In this
statement, Mary is bringing to light the fact that women were not allowed to make decisions about
their own lives due to the excessive power that was held by those surrounding them. This relates back
to the argument of individual liberties extending to women; women were barred from being
independent and giving importance to their own personal interests, which in fact, was a leading idea in
a movement of that time, individualism. It is certain that

The Hobbit Book Comparison
From the author of The Lord of The Rings trilogy, J. R. R. Tolkien, and the same crew behind their
film adaptations, Peter Jackson and his writing team, The Battle of the Five Armies is the final
instalment in a trilogy of films based on the classic fantasy novel, The Hobbit.
Picking up from The Desolation of Smaug, this final third follows on with the dwarves as they attempt
to reclaim their homeland of Erebor, as the titular battle ensues on The Lonely Mountain, with the
Goblins and the Wargs fighting against the Men of Lake town, the Elves, the Dwarves and Eagles.

filled with gold and one filled with silver. Second: Bilbo gives a silver and pearl necklace to the elven

for a while. before departing from Rivendell.
Bilbo is shown carrying a chest when he says goodbye to Gandalf in the film, but it is not shown that
he and Gandalf dig up chest they found in the Troll cave. In the book, they split the treasure, placing it
in bags on their horses.
When Gandalf visits Bilbo at the end of the film, Balin also joins them in the book.
Overall Verdict:
The first two instalments were also very different from the book, using characters we know from The
Lord of The Rings trilogy that didn t actually appear in The Hobbit, and additional plots to bulk the
adaptations out with Jackson making extensive use of the appendices published in the back of The
Return of the King, but it all felt necessary beforehand and filled the story out quite well. A lot of what
happens in this film, however, is completely unnecessary and only ends the franchise on a sour

SWOT Analysis Of Activision Blizzard
Advancements in information and technology have been the driving force behind some of the
successful companies in the world. Businesses are leveraging this development to build competitive
strategies by which they can make and sell their products and services. One of the companies that are
leveraging technology to sell their services is Activision Blizzard, which makes and sells video game.
Activision Blizzard has managed to establish five different business units, all of which are in the
entertainment industry. The success of the company has seen it establish itself as one of the largest
company in the United States and Europe in terms of its market capitalization and revenue. In an
industry that has seen many other companies emerging, Activision Blizzard has the responsibility of
making and adjusting its operational strategies to remain ahead of the competition. One of the
approaches that it can use in the achievement of this important goal is using a SWOT analysis tool. By
doing the SWOT, Activision Blizzard can identify weaknesses and threats in its operations and device
strategies for working on them to remain relevant and competitive in the market.
Team Organization External (SWOT) for Activision Blizzard

Causes Of Residential Schools
What was the cause of having residential schools made? Who did the native people wrong to deserve
such discriminatory and harsh treatment? To begin with, we have the causes for the government to
open residential schools. It all began with Sir John A. Macdonald who funded residential schools
because he thought that the aboriginal people were not civilized enough to live in a modern society.
The government, wanted aboriginal people to learn how to read and write because they thought the
aboriginals were savages . Sir John A. Mac Donald said this because he did not like the way native
people have been taught, or their culture, and beliefs. Residential schools were established so native
children could be more successful if the school taught the children the main stream Canadian
curriculum. This curriculum consisted of learning Christianity as well as how to speak English or
French. They did this so native kids can better understand the Canadian culture, by speaking in
another language. The first residential school for the aboriginal people was established near Quebec
City, where Catholic missionaries aimed to civilize aboriginal boys. Parents didn t want to send their
children to the residential schools, Kids sometimes tried to run away. Similar attempts were made by
protestant missionaries in the Atlantic and in the Red River area but also failed. After that we have the
cause of the treatment of residential schools. Teacher were often poorly trained; few children received

Mig Welding
What is MIG Welding?
Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding, also sometimes called Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) is a process
that was developed in the 1940s for welding aluminum and other non ferrous metals. MIG welding is
an automatic or semi automatic process in which a wire connected to a source of direct current acts as
an electrode to join two pieces of metal as it is continuously passed through a welding gun. A flow of
an inert gas, originally argon, is also passed through the welding gun at the same time as the wire
electrode. This inert gas acts as a shield, keeping airborne contaminants away from the weld zone.
Advantages and Disadvantages of MIG Welding
The primary advantage of MIG welding is that it allows metal to be welded much more ... Show more

 The necessity for the inert gas shield means that MIG welding cannot be used in an open area where
the wind would blow away the gas shield.
Since its development in the middle of the 20th century, MIG welding has become commonplace in
many manufacturing operations. For example, it is commonly used in the automobile industry because
of its ability to produce clean welds, and the fact that it welds metals quickly.
What is TIG Welding?
Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding is the process of blending together reactive metals such as
magnesium and aluminum. The TIG welding method became popular and useful in the early 1940s
and, as a result, has greatly propelled the use of aluminum for welding and structural processes. TIG
welding is commonly used for both high quality and manual welding.
During the process of TIG welding, an arc is formed between a pointed tungsten electrode and the area
to be welded. As a result of the gas shield, a clean weld is formed. This prevents oxidization from
occurring.
The type of gas shielding typically used for TIG welding is argon, helium, or a combination of both.
When combined, these two gases can ensure a higher welding speed and welding penetration. Argon is
the preference of most welders when it comes to TIG welding. It is often used simply because it is
heavier than air and provides better coverage when welding.
With TIG welding, one can perform a variety of

The story of DELICATESSEN begins at an apartment complex where the peculiarities of the time and
place are both ambiguous. There are several people gathering together to live. There is a specific
vertical social power structure in the building. The butcher, who works in a grocery store on the
ground floor and is also the landlord of the building, is the dictator who leads others There is one
unique rule, which is eating people who are visitors or unable to provide food for the building. One
day, a retired clown, Pinon, comes to the building to get a job and a room to live in and the story
commences. He lives there as a maintenance man without knowing that he will be a future meal. In
the building, he meets many types of people and also falls in love with Marie Laure, who is a daughter
of the butcher. They try to survive against the tenants, and, in the end, the butcher dies and the
building s dictatorial structure is destroyed. Pinon and Marie survive and start to happily live in the
building. In general, the movie demonstrates many interesting images, such as the scenes with yellow
lighting or frequent filter changes. The directors also use contorted, unnatural compositions and angles
like Dutch angle. These movie features are a combination of the sensitivity of neo noir film and
Hollywood B style. The music and sound effects in the movie play a significant role. There is a sound
track, which is based on an entertaining waltz and jazz, the sound effects, which are made

Nazi Death Camp Research Paper
Nazi Death Camps
Imagine this: You are a Jew. You are loaded into a train car with several other people. It takes you to a
camp and you don t know what s going on. Nazis are shouting stern commands to you in German to
strip down and separate from your family. They take all of your belongings and tell you that you won t
need them. Worried, scared, and frightened, you are ushered into a large chamber with hundreds of
other people. Then the gas filters in. You and everyone else are dead within 20 minutes. This is how it
was for the prisoners of Nazi death camps during the Holocaust. Here are the examples of death
camps, Treblinka and Belzec, and also how it was in any Nazi death camp.
Many of the nazi death camps were part of Aktion Reinhard, (Operation Reinhard) a Nazi plan to kill
all of the 2 million Jews living in German occupied Poland (Treblinka). Most of the death camps used
gas chambers, a nazi favorite, to kill the prisoners. A gas chamber is a huge chamber that has pipes
running through it. The Nazis would pipe deadly carbon monoxide into them, killing everyone inside.
After they were dead, the Nazis would dump the bodies into mass graves, (huge pits) and dumped dirt
over them.

many tried to escape into the surrounding forest. Hundreds were killed during the attempt, but a few
prisoners escaped and survived the war. After the revolt, the Germans killed the remaining prisoners

History Of Wrestling Essay
Wrestling represents one of the oldest forms of combat. The origins of wrestling goes back 15,000
years through cave drawings in France. Here are the four old types of wrestling. Greco Roman
wrestling soon became prestigious in continental Europe and was the first style registered at the
modern Olympic Games, beginning in Athens in 1896 with one heavyweight bout, and grew in
popularity during the 20th century. Another form of wrestling is freestyle wrestling. Freestyle is a style
of amateur wrestling that is practiced throughout the world. Along with Greco Roman, it is one of the
two styles of wrestling contested in the Olympic games. Folkstyle wrestling started when the French
and English settlers started moving to North America, and it started ... Show more content on

`` Blue Moon Of Kentucky ``
From an American perspective, the color blue symbolizes and represents a multitude of social and
iconic aspects identified as uniquely Kentuckian. The Bluegrass State stands as one of the most
recognizable state monikers across the country, Blue Moon of Kentucky is a famous waltz recorded by
both Bluegrass musical creator Bill Monroe (as well as the king of rock Elvis Presley), and chants of
Go Big Blue!! echo across the state from those that support the University of Kentucky s athletic
programs. Lost to represent Kentucky citizens in this twentieth century movement toward a more
popular iconography are the sacrificial contributions for the Union cause made by ordinary
Kentuckians during the Civil War. As events unfolded in the 1860s domestic crisis between the Blue

those that marched and fought in the uniform of the darker hue. In 1897, future President Theodore
Roosevelt singled out Kentucky s Appalachian citizens impact on the war proclaiming when the full

To conclude, Mark Knopfler did a better job of conveying the sentiment of the war because he added

Essay On Organizational Changes Post Enron
Major changes in rules and regulations
Since the Enron collapsed an array of new laws and regulations has been adopted to tighten corporate
oversight. US offices were the first one to come out and implement the policies. Almost all of the
firms had their headquarters in the US and they replicated their headquarters policies to a good extend
in other offices around the world. Also other governments and regulatory bodies around the world
came out with their country specific rules and regulations which are quite similar to the rules in the
US. So these two factors ensured that rules which are followed in US are followed at the other places
also. Policies might differ in their length and breadth at different places due to cultural, country ...

Many accounting firms and independent CPAs reacted to these events and implemented changes in

The Effects Of Pesticides On The Coffee Industry On Coffee
Coffea commonly known as a coffee plant is the member of the Rubiaceae family (USDA 2015).
While there are various species of the coffee plant, Coffee Arabica and Coffee Canephora are mostly
grown. However, between them Coffee Arabica is considered to have greater quality and flavor. With
the increase in demand of coffee within coffee drinkers globally, coffee has successfully ensured its
place to become the world s second largest commodity. Brazil is known as the top manufacturer of
coffee followed by countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Colombia, and Ethiopia (USDA 2014). The
rising demand for coffee has augmented the dependence of the coffee industry on countries that grows
coffee. Using pesticides on coffee fields seemed to be an ultimate solution for farmers who were
hoping for maximum productivity of coffee. Pesticides are used in agriculture in order to protect
plants from fungal diseases, pests, insects that affect the growth of food crops. On the short run, using
pesticides has an advantage as it increases the production and the quality of coffee. However, pesticide
practices have negative issues on the environment, the quality and the amount of coffee manufactured,
and the health of the coffee drinkers and the farmers in the long run.
The agricultural practice that involves the usage of pesticides has contributed in the exploitation of the
environment. The consumption of pesticides in countries that grows coffee has increased rapidly over
the decades. For example,

Emancipation from Damaging Early Years
While mental and emotional factors are important, the physical factors are just as key in emancipating
yourself from damaging early years. Negative memories from a childhood in which physical needs
were not met can easily influence a future. Children with these memories often go on to create
unhealthy relationships, unattainable goals, or a life with no purpose. Motivation can become more
difficult as time goes on due to lack of results in one s life as well as a lack of true satisfaction.
Physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, and acts of drug or alcohol abuse in the child s presence can
make a lasting impression in one of two ways. Either the child must make the difficult choice at a
young age to rise above such things or they must continue the cycle of living a life of despair as their
parents did before them. Liz s friend Chris chooses the latter, and Liz must leave behind her friends,
her family, and her home for a better life. As seen in these examples, children who witness traumatic
situations are forced to grow up and gain wisdom beyond their years. For those who choose not to live
a life like their parents s, the next step is starting on the long journey between a rough childhood and a
triumphant adulthood. In this modern day and age, education is stressed at a very young age. From the
first day of kindergarten, we are taught how to read and write so we can learn bigger and better things.

Banks
Over time, technology has increased in importance in Ghanaian banks. Traditionally, banks have
always sought media through which they would serve their clients more cost effectively as well as
increase the utility to their clientele. Their main concern has been to serve clients more conveniently,
and in the process increase profits and competitiveness. Electronic and communications technologies
have been used extensively in banking for many years to advance agenda of banks
In Ghana, the earliest forms of electronic and communications technologies used were mainly office
automation devices. Telephones, telex and facsimile were employed to speed up and make more
efficient, the process of servicing clients. For decades, they remained the main information and
communication technologies used for transacting bank business.
Later in the 1980s, as competition intensified and the personal computer (PC) got proletarian,
Ghanaian banks begun to use them in back office operations and later tellers used them to service
clients. Advancements in computer technology saw the banks networking their branches and
operations thereby making the one branch philosophy a reality. Barclays Bank (Gh.) and Standard

Comparing The Wanderer And The Seafarer
One of the most tragic fates that an Anglo Saxon man or woman could ever have to face is exile. In
the Anglo Saxon poems such as the The Wanderer and the The Seafarer , the authors experience times
of exile while sailing the oceans. They tell tales of men set out at sea, describing their life lives filled
with loneliness and complete desolation. In both poems, the setting of the rough, open seas highlights
the theme of exile and plays an integral role in representing the distance and conflicts between the
main characters and society. As they follow paths of suffering and affliction, the ruthless seas further
torment their lives, only adding to their feelings of loneliness and exile.

Mayan Civilization Disappearance
What Cause The Disappearance Of Maya Civilization?
The Maya civilization was an extremely mysterious and glorious ancient civilization. Most of the
Mayans were distributed throughout Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala. Mayans made a brilliant
civilization with the simple implement of production in the Neolithic Age, and they did not have any
metal tools or transportation. They left towering pyramid temples, majestic palaces, and finely carved
stone tablets. They also made many well made pottery and beautiful oblations. They created an
accurate mathematics system and an astronomical almanac system, and a hieroglyphic system, which
has still, not be decoded. As the only civilization that lived in the tropical jungle, instead of large river

Though the NFL protest of kneeling during the Star Spangled Banner appears to be disrespectful at
first glance, if one really takes the time to investigate the issue they will see it is a justifiable way to
express their first amendment right. Kneeling is something people do when they pray to show great
respect toward their heavenly father. However, when one person kneels during the National Anthem
many people go and claim their actions are disrespectful without any knowledge of why they kneeled.
Many believe that the kneeling is to show disrespect toward the country. Well, it s not. The protest is
really just about those denying the most basic freedoms. According to Julius Peppers, this wasn t
about disrespecting the military, disrespecting the flag, police, first responders, none of that, and those

Allen and Dadgar (2012) utilized data on 22, 962 incoming college freshmen who were part of the
City University of New York s (CUNY) College Now program and had enrolled in a CUNY campus
within 15 months after high school graduation. This data was merged with data from the New York
City (NYC) Department of Education which included all high school students who had been peers of
the students in the College Now dual enrollment program. The NYC Department of Education data
included extensive demographic information and test score data as well information on institutional
differences between high schools. This rich data set enabled comparison between students who had
participated in dual enrollment and comparable peers who had not participated. In order to control for
preexisting differences that were not reflected in the data set this study used a quasi experimental
analysis called the difference in differences. The results of this study confirm the work of other recent
quantitative analyses which have shown higher GPA s and reduced time to graduation for dual
enrollment students as compared to their peers. The authors suggest that this study confirms the
importance of academic momentum by demonstrating that students who are able to gain credits before
starting college also earn more credits once they are enrolled in college. This study adds to the
evidence that dual enrollment has a positive impact on postsecondary GPA and time to graduation.

Increasing Population Uncertainty Essay
Increasing Population Uncertainty
Carrying capacity is defined as the number of individuals of a certain species that can be sustained
indefinitely in a particular area. The Earth s capacity to support people is determined both by natural
constraints and by human choices concerning economics, environment, culture (including values and
politics), and demography. Human carrying capacity is more difficult to estimate than some of the
standard demographic indicators, like expectation of life or the total fertility rate, because human
carrying capacity depends on populations and activities around the world. Human carrying capacity is
therefore dynamic and uncertain. Ecologists have often made use of the concept of carrying ... Show

Many environmental, social, and economic problems either stem from or are increased in magnitude
by the overpopulation problem. With an exponentially increasing population, the problems created by
overpopulation grow correspondingly. Population growth is out spacing growth in agricultural
production and it is putting increasing pressure on erodible soils, grazing lands, water, and fuel wood
supplies (Chapman, Peterson, Smith Moran, 2000). To ensure population stability not only in the
increasingly wealthy third world areas, but also in the industrialized areas, countries and individuals
must work together to achieve controlled population growth.
The earth does not contain enough resources to indefinitely sustain the current enormous population
growth. For instance, there only is a limited area of arable land and living space available to us. China,
home to 1.2 billion people or 1/5 the world s population, is an excellent example of the kinds of
problems that arise in an increasingly crowded society. Trying to increase the standard of living of its
people, China has industrialized and the economy has grown (Hanson, 1995). This increase in wealth
has increased the demand for food in China. The demand is so great that China went from exporting 8
million tons of grain in 1992 to becoming a net importer of 16 million tons of grain in 1994 (China
News Digest, 1995). This causes a worldwide grain shortage that raises prices,

effects of fire and how fire regimes and fire severity impacted the landscape (Fulé et al. 2003,
Reynolds et al. 2013). Herbivores, such as elk, deer, and bighorn sheep, respond in post fire
wilderness due to the open dense canopies that allow an increase in understory plants that herbivores
feed on (Bailey and Whittam 2002). For example, elk prefer forage quality that provide their required
calorie intake to allow them to successfully produce milk. During early succession, mid succession,
and late succession of post fire habitat, forage quality is at its highest during early succession stages in
both mesic and xeric sites (Swanson et al. 2011). This suggest that herbivores, like elk, would utilize
these early succession post fire areas. Carnivores and mesocarnivores respond to post fire changes as
well. Male american black bears and grizzly bears used burned sites increasing their home range post
fire. Canids, such as the coyote, use both burned and unburned areas due to food availability
(Cunningham et al 2002). The Mount Washburn sites are in landscapes that experienced high severity
fires and have an abundance of whitebark pine deadfall in the area. This overabundance of deadfall
might detter larger herbivores and carnivores decreasing wildlife species diversity. Wildlife species
diversity is an intuitive way to determine an ecosystem s health and status (Edwards and Abivardi
1998). Wildlife species diversity boosts ecosystem productivity due to diversification

Criticism In Animal Farm And The Prophet s Hair
Literature generally reflects life. It doesn t just describe the events; it creates characters and conflicts
to help the reader better understand the meaning of the events. Modern literature is often linked to
ideology, either supporting or discriminating it. George Orwell s Animal Farm and Salman Rushdie s
The Prophet s Hair are among the literary texts that attack the ideologies, Communism and Islam
respectively. Even though the texts are written in the genres that are usually used to support the
principles and ideas of the philosophy they promote, Animal Farm and The Prophet s Hair undermine
these philosophies. There are certain similarities in the way G.Orwell and S.Rushdie discriminate the
ideologies in question; however, some differences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, the tone of describing events and characters in both texts is sarcastic. Humorous undertone
is expressed by different means: caricatures, contrasts and hyberbolisations in Animal Farm; high
diction and exaggeration in The Prophet s Hair ( procession , endless ululating crocodiles of
lamentation , ramifications , massive police search ). Moreover, both protagonists, Napoleon and
Hashim, are obsessed with the idea. Napoleon puts in place any means to achieve his goal; and
Hashim becomes a different person, betraying his own principles, in order to satisfy the requirements
of his new ideas. Worship of the ideology, be it Communism or Islam, is at the core of the conflicts. In
addition, both characters use their ideologies, but not common sense and consciousness, to justify their
acts. Napoleon s every new decision, even the most abnormal, is supported by Surely, comrades, you
do not want Jones back? ; by Jones implying the old regime. After these words every argument
becomes unanswerable. For his part Hashim uses religion to justify his greed and passion. He tells
himself: ...the Prophet would have disapproved mightily of this relic worship: he abhorred the idea of
being deified, so by keeping this rotting hair from its mindless devotees, I perform do I not? a finer

Slip And Fall Injury Essay
It is not uncommon for a person injured in a slip and fall accident to not realize they were hurt until a
day or more after the incident. Pain may arise from the fall itself, or the impact may have aggravated a
pre existing condition. Back pain that results from a slip and fall accident could possibly be very
serious, and should not be ignored. Some common slip and fall or trip and fall injuries include:
Cervical spine injuries These injuries involve the neck. A bone may dislocate, potentially damaging
the spinal cord. This unstable situation generally requires surgical correction.
Fracture A broken bone in the spine causes intense pain. In backward falls, the tailbone is often
involved. Fractures range in severity, from simple fractures

Impact of Telecommunication Technologies on Virtual Universities
Shena D. Sterling
IX540: Research Methods for Education and Instructional Technology
Professor Kimberly Case
December 13, 2014
Introduction
Virtual Universities are on the rise and are a legitimate threat to replace the traditional University. The
most prominent reason for the current explosion in student enrollment in the virtual universities, are
advancements in telecommunications technologies. This paper presents a methodology for
quantitatively testing the relationship between growth in telecommunications technologies, and
parallel growth in student enrollment in Category 1, Title IV 2yr and 4yr degree granting distance
education programs recognized by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As advancements in telecommunications technologies go forward the costs associated with such
technologies have decreased while the benefits increased. New cutting edge technologies are always
priced at a premium when they are introduced into the market. As competitors enter the market the
cost of the technology gradually declines and demand rises following the law of demand.
In this project one of the major questions that must be answered is whether the value of low cost
distance education programs, supported by new and innovative telecommunication technologies, is
greater than the value of traditional educational programs costing much more. The researcher proposes
that the explosive growth in student enrollment in on line programs answer this question affirmatively.
The researcher will use quantitative analysis to support the null hypothesis identified in the document.
Within the context of this quasi experimental study the researcher has carefully investigated the role
advancements in telecommunications technologies have played in the establishment and growth of
virtual universities in the U.S., the impact telecommunications technologies have had on Title IV, Post
Secondary 2yr and 4yr degree granting colleges and universities, how the explosive growth in on line
student enrollment has globally

Boston from 1850 to 1900 Essay
Brandee Meyer
Boston from 1850 1900 There was no time in Boston that was most emphasized, than the 1850 s to
1900 s. In the city of Boston there were a lot of changes that had occurred between the second half of
the 19th century, not only with the city but also with the people living in Boston. Boston has always
been changing and in transition.
Boston had changed majorly from being the merchant city to the industrial metropolis. The population
of people went up about ¾ in 50 years of its physical change. When Boston was a merchant city in
1850, it was tightly packed and crowded, then once it because an industrial metropolis in 1900, it was
a spread out to a 10 mile radius, containing 31 cities and towns. The metropolis was ... Show more

It was the same with the omnibus that was created in 1826, because it moved slowly and didn t hold
many people. The steam railroad was another form of transportation that was introduced in 1835 and it
was a better form of transportation because it moved quicker and could hold many more passengers,
but it was also expensive and didn t always take the people to where they wanted to go because it didn
t stop very often, and only went one route.
There were land changes that occurred during the second half of the 19th century such as the South
End and the Back Bay. The South End was almost entirely taken up by houses in 1880 and then went
to the Back Bay that was almost completely taken up by houses in 1900. Only the rich could afford to
live on these pieces of land, because they were so expensive. Street railways were created and they
were the most aggressive expansion in the 19th century. From the 1880 s to the 1890 s street railways
took up at least six miles from City Hall in Boston. The service of the first railway began in 1852. The
first street railway in Boston would go between Harvard Square, Cambridge, Summerville, and Union
Square. The increase in the street railway brought excitement for the entrepreneur s as well in other
cities in America. Eventually the street railways replaced the omnibus s that were already running

Increasing Mobility of Micro-robotics Essay
Chapter Two
The Review of the Related Literature
Introduction
Micro robotics is a field that stresses mobility from being able to fit in tight spaces to being able to
navigate varying terrain. Scientists and engineers are often trying to make smaller and more mobile
robots as seen in the 3cm long RoACH robot (Hoover, 2008), and the DASH (Birkmeyer, 2009) and
iSprawl (Kim, 2006) robots which can reach speeds of up to 15 body lengths a second. A common
method to make robots smaller is to reduce the amount of actuators a robot has to both reduce the size
of the robot and the weight but this has a negative effect on the robots mobility. The smaller robots
become the less mobility they come to have and so in an effort to make robots more ... Show more

This project also deals with the use of inertial appendages in under actuated miniature robots. An
inertial appendage in the form of a tail was added to a robot to study the effects a tail would have on
dynamic steering. Tails can contribute to steering through either a shift in the robots center of mass or
through the transfer of angular momentum. The goal of this study is to provide a model of a legged
robot that successfully uses an inertial tail for faster and sharper turns. Other factors that can affect the
robots movement are also studied such as changing the tail s inertia, the friction between the robot and
the surface, and motor input voltage. There are also two types of tails that will be tested and
compared, a symmetric tail with weights on either side, and an asymmetric tail with half the length
and a weight only on one side. The symmetric tail separates the effect of changing the robots center of
mass as the system is still balanced but the asymmetric tail changes the robots center of mass which
may prove either detrimental or beneficial to the robots mobility.
History of Inertial Appendages The idea of inertial appendages first stemmed from a proposal in 1969
by a paleontologist who said that theropod dinosaurs had tails which acted as dynamic stabilizers
during rapid or irregular movements. (Libby, 2012) This led to the discovery that other animals such
as lizards and cats have been known to use their tails to self right their bodies in free fall.

The Turkish Letters Essay
The Turkish letters date back to 1555 1562, and is referencing the Ottoman empire s progression to the
throne. During this time, the state building of the Ottoman empire was increasing and expanding
immensely, due to Suleiman s rule. Suleiman led the golden age of the Ottoman empire during his
rule. The text displays the interactions of the Sultan s laws and encounters among the people. The text
explains that the Sultan s hall was crowded with many people, and the Janissaries were in charge of
protecting him. The event that was taking place was an assembly discussing about the Turkish
Monarchs going to war, and the fear of Persia impacting the Ottoman empire. This source represents
the time period because while the Janissaries were going to war, people were also worried about the ...

The author was trying to accomplish an insight on what life was like during the 15th century, not only
for the civilians, but the army and the Sultan. The author may have had ulterior motives. One being
that the janissaries did not like their job and did not want to fight in war, but rather learn, study, and
prosper through the years peacefully, rather than violently.
The main idea of this text is the relationship between the people and the ruler of the Ottoman empire.
The point the author was trying to make was made clear that the people living in the Ottoman Empire
were concerned for their empire during war, and there ruler s succession on the throne. The author s
background may have effect on the message, because if the author was female, That person may have
made the role of females in the society more prominent. The author s occupation may have hindered

18th Century Roman Clothing
1. In the realm of fashion, the attire one wears can broadcast a statement, whether of their political
view or general lifestyle. Consequently, throughout history groups in our society are often associated
with a typical style of clothing. For instance, in 18th century France the sans culottes (translated to
those without britches ) were the unruly lower class that would wear, long trousers...[and] special
caps, the same as those worn in ancient Rome by free slaves. (pg. 81) This is indicative toward their
ideals of a well off government as well as the prospect of liberty. Moreover, they would refuse to sport
the knee breeches worn by the wealthy, and was a method of identification, with this distinctive
difference between them and the bourgeoisie.

Cri-Du-Chat Syndrome Research Paper
Cri du Chat (cat s cry) Syndrome is a rare chromosomal disorder that is caused by the deletion of
genetic material on chromosome 5. Due to this, this syndrome has an alternative name, known as 5p ,
or 5p minus syndrome. Although this genetic defect is able to be diagnosed, the cause of the deletion
on the chromosome is unknown. Almost all cases of the Cri du Chat Syndrome are found to have no
relation with family members or previous generations. This syndrome is generally not inherited, as the
deletion occurs randomly during meiosis (the formation of the gametes). In about 90% of people who
have this condition, the deletion is completely random and is not inherited. The remaining 10% of
affected people inherit a chromosome with a deleted section from an unaffected parent. This is
because the parents balanced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This deletion can occur through a variety of genetic arrangements, in the form of unbalanced
translocation, ring chromosomes, interstitial deletion, and inversion. The main symptom of individuals
with Cri du Chat is that at a young age, they have a high pitched cry, that resembles that of a cat. This
cry generally becomes less noticeable as the individual ages. Some of the other symptoms of Cri du
Chat Syndrome are mental retardation, hyperactivity, delayed development, small heads, round faces,
low nasal bridges, widely spaced eyes, low birth weight, and weak muscle tone. Since the size of the
deletion of the genetic material varies between each affected person, these individuals can all show
slightly different symptoms and levels of intensity with these symptoms. Individuals with this
syndrome may come across feeding issues due to difficulties in swallowing food and sucking in
liquids. They also sometimes lack sufficient communication and verbal skills, and face delays in the
progress of learning to walk. There is no cure for Cri du Chat Syndrome as of

  • 2. Explain Why the Arab Invasions of 710 and 711 Were so... Explain why the Arab invasions of 710 and 711 were so successful. In answering this question we must first appreciate the difficulty historians face in discovering the real truth of the early Arab invasions, a fact well demonstrated in the varying estimates of Arab invasion forces (ranging from 1,700 9000 in current publications). Scant contemporary evidence exists beyond a short narrative present in a Spanish chronicle of 754, a vital surviving Islamic administrative document of the time, and some archaeological remains. Our knowledge of the invasions is largely founded on the works of later Islamic historians, the Ajbar Machmua text for example and the works of Ibn Idhari and al Maqqari. Unfortunately there are fewer Christian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The existence of a rival claimant caused dangerous divisions throughout the kingdom and in Akhila s demesne land of Tarragona and Narbonne coins were minted without the king s image, a clear measure of defiance. It is also reported in some sources that during the invasion Akhila conspired with the Arabs to depose Roderic. Some go as far as to say that during the final battle a wing of Roderic s army loyal to Akhila turned on him in the midst of the fighting. Whether this is true can hardly be proven but something catastrophic must have happened for the King s army supposedly far larger than Tarik s (Estimates 24,000 30,000 ) to suffer such a devastating defeat. Many historians support the idea that elements within the Visigothic nobility gave assistance to the invaders probably as a means of removing Roderic. It is unlikely however that they foresaw the long term implications of the invasion and the extension of Muslim presence in Iberia. It is argued that as well as the problems the succession dispute posed, the very fabric of Visigothic society itself was weak. It is suggested that the Visgothic nobility of the time, who had placed themselves above the native Hispano Roman population in terms of rights and privileges, were suffering a backlash from the lower sections of society. Incidents of rebellion had increased as had the number of slaves deserting their Lords. Many runaways turned to outlawry and as a consequence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on The Author to Her Book by Anne Bradstreet The Author to Her Book by Anne Bradstreet In The Author to Her Book, Bradstreet is inundated in indecision and internal struggles over the virtues and shortfalls of her abilities and the book that she produced. As human beings we associate and sympathize with each other through similar experiences. It is difficult to sympathize with someone when you don t know where they are coming from and don t know what they are dealing with. Similar experiences and common bonds are what allow us to extend our sincere appreciation and understanding for another human being s situation. In this poem an elaborate struggle between pride and shame manifests itself through an extended metaphor in which she equates her book to her own child. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She says that the child had been by her side until snatched from thence by friends, less wise than true (line 3). Basically she is saying a trusted person snatched her work from her without permission to take them to England to be printed. Had it not been for her brother in law taking her work back to England and getting them printed they may have never been known. The intimacy and feeling she shares with her work is like that of a mother and child and that bond was infringed upon when her work was exposed to public view (line 4). The intrusion of her brother in law getting her work printed is the cause of feeling that follow. Ironically the next thing she talks is the shame she has been thrust upon her by not being able to perfect the work before it was published. This is illustrated in line five where she writes, Made thee in rags, as to say her work is like a child dressed in rags. In lines six through nine Bradstreet associates the embarrassment she feels due to her unperfected work to the embarrassment a parent feels due to an irritable child. She feels ashamed that the errors were not lessened (line 6) before the work was printed and refers to it as a rambling brat who is one unfit for light (line 8 9) because her child was taken from her before she had time to prepare it to go out into the world. After 9/11 many airlines have toughen up their security measures in order to prevent this tragic accident to ever occur again. In order to improve security and make our lives a lot safer airlines have implemented many different types of technology. Technology aids airline security to see what passengers are possibly carrying under their clothing. • 5. Steve Harvey Research Paper Though many people know him from the drastic Miss Universe incident, it is certainly not the defining point of Steve Harvey s career. From the successful Family Feud host to Steve Harvey s morning show, he has created a household name for himself and continues to bring comedy to the world. He once also had over 500 suits in various colors and cuts, but he is most remembered for his comedy. I believe that the long lasting legacy of Steve Harvey is bringing comedy to the world, starting the Steve and Marjorie Harvey foundation, and being an example of hard work pays off. Harvey is the perfect example of hard work pays off because he soon landed an agent and his career took off from there. Steve Harvey has found much success in comedy. In 1993, he took over as the host of Showtime at the Apollo until 2000, and also at that time he got his own sitcom, The Steve Harvey Show that lasted until 2000 (Steve Harvey). He has also appeared in numerous TV shows and movies. Surprisingly, Steve Harvey has also written many relationship advice, including best sellers, act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man (2009) and Straight Talk, No Chaser (2010). These books take a comedic side to the typical relationship books. In 2010, Steve Harvey won another iconic TV role, taking over as host of the game show Family Feud. Harvey has won countless awards for his roles in television and in movies. He has been nominated for awards 16 times and won 14 awards in his career (Steve Harvey Biography). Ten Days that Unexpectedly Changed America Summary Essay Ten Days That Unexpectedly Changed America Chapter Summaries Chapter 1: Massacre at Mystic May 26, 1637 was a fateful day in the history of America. The actions of Major John Mason and his Puritan men set a precedent for the next two hundred years of European and Indian relations. On that clear May night near the Mystic River of New England, hundreds of Pequot Indians were killed by the Europeans and their allies, most of the victims being the elderly, women, and children. This massacre was a massive turning point in the Pequot War, effectively ruining the tribe. Already weakened by disease and by competing native tribes, the Pequot were quickly routed and by September 21, 1638 the war ended with the Treaty of Hartford. The treaty ... Chapter 2: Shays Rebellion Everyone knows that the Constitution is one of the most important documents in American history, but many people have never heard of Daniel Shays. Daniel Shays, a Revolutionary War veteran turned farmer, lived in Western Massachusetts after the war. He had planned on retiring from his military life from which he had fought for the ideals of the revolution. However, he was drawn back into military life fighting against the very government he battled to create. After the Revolutionary War, the Articles of Confederation were created to govern the new nation. The states were loosely tied together by a weak national government that had little applicable power. The states were left to individually find ways to pay for their war debts. Massachusetts did so by heavily taxing its people. The taxes were so heavy that in many cases people were paying more than they had paid under British rule. Daniel Shays, feeling outraged and betrayed, helped to organize the already present groups of fellow angry farmers into a rebel army. His army numbered close to 2,000 men. January 25, 1787 was to be the day that Shays would lead his men to attack the federal arsenal at Springfield. Due to communication difficulties, about 400 of Shays men were not ... • 8. Medicine and Cardiology Cardiology is mainly perceived as a study of the functions and disorders of the heart. However, it is really much more than that. Since 13,000 B.C. medicine has been a thriving area of study. Even more specifically than that, the heart has been a thriving area of study. As a result of the heart being the organ that keeps one alive, numerous physicians from the past and the present strived to decipher the heart. Since the heart has yet to be completely figured out, cardiology proves to be a promising career in the future. In the beginning of time, herbalism was the first known form of medicine. This contributed to cardiology as a practice of medicine because people were able to make diagnosis about the heart. In 1816, Rene T.H. Laennec invented the stethoscope. This also contributed to cardiology as a practice of medicine. In 1903, William Einthoven invented the electrocardiograph. This led to cardiology as a medicine because it helped take down the rhythms of a heart to make sure that one s heart was just the right speed. (Occupational Outlook Handbook) In 1912, James Herrick took a huge step in the right direction when he discovered how heart disease occurs. From his research, he came up with the idea of hardening of the arteries and its contributions to affecting the heart. He realized that heart diseases occur when arteries aren t functioning correctly. Therefore, if arteries were hardening blood flow couldn t flow normally and the heart would loose blood and oxygen resulting in a diseased heart. (History of Medicine) In 1938, Robert E. Gross performed the first heart surgery. He performed the surgery on the great vessels near the heart. This was monumental in cardiology history. With this, many other heart surgeries were able to be performed. In 1951, Charles Hufnagel developed a plastic valve to fix an aortic valve. Frost also utilizes tone to emphasize the horrific nature of the scene while speaking in a seemingly light manner. Frost s diction can be divided into two major categories: whimsical and light, and dark. This contrast contributes to the irony of the scene as well. Specific word choices in the octave show this clearly. Frost employs light, pleasant, and whimsical words like dimpled, fat, snow drop, froth, and kite (7). The tone of the sestet can be identified through the questions the narrator asks. The first question is of annoyance and slight confusion. The flower is the subject of this confusion. As a heal all, its proper color is blue, and should not have been white. This is the first clue that suggests the involvement of something other than random chance. The blue had been cast aside and forgotten, and the narrator views the flower as innocent. It had been implicated in such an awful event by no fault of its own. This raises the question of whose fault it actually was. The next seems harsh and sinister, questioning what force or chance brought the spider to the top of the flower, and then why the moth flew straight into its grasps. Height normally shows superiority, but in this context, it is negative. The evil spider is high up on a mutated flower, in the perfect place at the perfect time to catch dinner. It seems hard to believe that random chance brought the spider to that particular flower. The next part of the question concerns the moth and what force caused it to come into contact with the spider and flower. The identical color of the flower, moth, and spider further contributes evidence to the conclusion that this situation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Typically, for a NPO what is also important is that who writes the mission statement. Considering only senior management or executives could be one answer, but I believe that since a NPO does most of its operational work largely through volunteers and less through employees, it becomes important to have representation of this constituency as well. The closer the mission statement is to what these volunteers considers is important for their end customers, the more likely is the high quality of the output and easier to continue recruiting volunteers. However, since many of the large NPO that we know and will discuss in this paper have been existing for decades, it also makes sense to evaluate mission statements in the context of emerging needs of the customers every 20 30 years. The idea of feminism is one that has evolved significantly throughout history; from suffrage rights to feminist campaigns, different historical periods have different legacies in the development of feminism. When reflecting on various historical time periods, there have been several distinct legacies, all of which have had a lasting impact on society in both the past and the present. The atmosphere of the Romantic era, which was vibrating with ideas focusing around individual liberty, was an ideal opportunity for feminists to advance the thought of women being perceived as equals in society. Advocates for women s rights attempted to further their goals by arguing that equality should be a logical extension of liberty. If individual liberty was considered a human right, then it should therefore also apply to women in order to be correct; to them it seemed undeniable that the term individual included all individuals, regardless of race, gender, or religion. Concerning this issue, Mary Wollstonecraft further inquired if it was, not inconsistent and unjust to subjugate women, even though you firmly believe that you are acting in the manner best calculated to promote their happiness? Who made man the exclusive judge, if women partake with him the gift of reason? In this statement, Mary is bringing to light the fact that women were not allowed to make decisions about their own lives due to the excessive power that was held by those surrounding them. This relates back to the argument of individual liberties extending to women; women were barred from being independent and giving importance to their own personal interests, which in fact, was a leading idea in a movement of that time, individualism. • 16. Causes Of Residential Schools What was the cause of having residential schools made? Who did the native people wrong to deserve such discriminatory and harsh treatment? To begin with, we have the causes for the government to open residential schools. It all began with Sir John A. Macdonald who funded residential schools because he thought that the aboriginal people were not civilized enough to live in a modern society. The government, wanted aboriginal people to learn how to read and write because they thought the aboriginals were savages . Sir John A. Mac Donald said this because he did not like the way native people have been taught, or their culture, and beliefs. Residential schools were established so native children could be more successful if the school taught the children the main stream Canadian curriculum. This curriculum consisted of learning Christianity as well as how to speak English or French. They did this so native kids can better understand the Canadian culture, by speaking in another language. The first residential school for the aboriginal people was established near Quebec City, where Catholic missionaries aimed to civilize aboriginal boys. Parents didn t want to send their children to the residential schools, Kids sometimes tried to run away. Similar attempts were made by protestant missionaries in the Atlantic and in the Red River area but also failed. After that we have the cause of the treatment of residential schools. Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding, also sometimes called Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) is a process that was developed in the 1940s for welding aluminum and other non ferrous metals. MIG welding is an automatic or semi automatic process in which a wire connected to a source of direct current acts as an electrode to join two pieces of metal as it is continuously passed through a welding gun. A flow of an inert gas, originally argon, is also passed through the welding gun at the same time as the wire electrode. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...  The necessity for the inert gas shield means that MIG welding cannot be used in an open area where the wind would blow away the gas shield. Since its development in the middle of the 20th century, MIG welding has become commonplace in many manufacturing operations. For example, it is commonly used in the automobile industry because of its ability to produce clean welds, and the fact that it welds metals quickly. What is TIG Welding? Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding is the process of blending together reactive metals such as magnesium and aluminum. The TIG welding method became popular and useful in the early 1940s and, as a result, has greatly propelled the use of aluminum for welding and structural processes. TIG welding is commonly used for both high quality and manual welding. During the process of TIG welding, an arc is formed between a pointed tungsten electrode and the area to be welded. As a result of the gas shield, a clean weld is formed. This prevents oxidization from occurring. The type of gas shielding typically used for TIG welding is argon, helium, or a combination of both. When combined, these two gases can ensure a higher welding speed and welding penetration. Argon is the preference of most welders when it comes to TIG welding. It is often used simply because it is heavier than air and provides better coverage when welding. With TIG welding, one can perform a variety of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The national anthem is just the vehicle for the protest. Meaning people of color just want equal rights and want to be treated like humans instead of animals. Many may believe that people of color have all equal rights, yet those people that believe that are white and may not be educated on what is happening around them. • 35. The University Of New York Allen and Dadgar (2012) utilized data on 22, 962 incoming college freshmen who were part of the City University of New York s (CUNY) College Now program and had enrolled in a CUNY campus within 15 months after high school graduation. This data was merged with data from the New York City (NYC) Department of Education which included all high school students who had been peers of the students in the College Now dual enrollment program. The NYC Department of Education data included extensive demographic information and test score data as well information on institutional differences between high schools. This rich data set enabled comparison between students who had participated in dual enrollment and comparable peers who had not participated. In order to control for preexisting differences that were not reflected in the data set this study used a quasi experimental analysis called the difference in differences. The results of this study confirm the work of other recent quantitative analyses which have shown higher GPA s and reduced time to graduation for dual enrollment students as compared to their peers. The authors suggest that this study confirms the importance of academic momentum by demonstrating that students who are able to gain credits before starting college also earn more credits once they are enrolled in college. This study adds to the evidence that dual enrollment has a positive impact on postsecondary GPA and time to graduation. Academic Impact of Dual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Increasing Population Uncertainty Essay Increasing Population Uncertainty Carrying capacity is defined as the number of individuals of a certain species that can be sustained indefinitely in a particular area. The Earth s capacity to support people is determined both by natural constraints and by human choices concerning economics, environment, culture (including values and politics), and demography. Human carrying capacity is more difficult to estimate than some of the standard demographic indicators, like expectation of life or the total fertility rate, because human carrying capacity depends on populations and activities around the world. Human carrying capacity is therefore dynamic and uncertain. Ecologists have often made use of the concept of carrying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many environmental, social, and economic problems either stem from or are increased in magnitude by the overpopulation problem. With an exponentially increasing population, the problems created by overpopulation grow correspondingly. Population growth is out spacing growth in agricultural production and it is putting increasing pressure on erodible soils, grazing lands, water, and fuel wood supplies (Chapman, Peterson, Smith Moran, 2000). To ensure population stability not only in the increasingly wealthy third world areas, but also in the industrialized areas, countries and individuals must work together to achieve controlled population growth. The earth does not contain enough resources to indefinitely sustain the current enormous population growth. For instance, there only is a limited area of arable land and living space available to us. China, home to 1.2 billion people or 1/5 the world s population, is an excellent example of the kinds of problems that arise in an increasingly crowded society. Trying to increase the standard of living of its people, China has industrialized and the economy has grown (Hanson, 1995). This increase in wealth has increased the demand for food in China. The demand is so great that China went from exporting 8 million tons of grain in 1992 to becoming a net importer of 16 million tons of grain in 1994 (China News Digest, 1995). This causes a worldwide grain shortage that raises prices, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wildfire Effects Whitebark pine (Pinus albicaulis) is a keystone species (Tomback et al. 2001), forming subalpine and treeline forests that supply food and shelter for hundreds of plant and animal species. This trait makes whitebark pine a quintessential high elevation conifer and it forms unique habitat types with both geographic and successional variation that support considerable biodiversity across the higher mountains of the United states and Canada. (Tomback et al. 2001, Tomback and Achuff 2010). Whitebark pine is a foundation species. The tree stands create a stable environment for other trees and plants by holding rocks and soil on slopes where other trees cannot survive (Arno and Hoff 1989). Wildfire and prescribed burns have a variety of impacts on wildlife and habitats, both direct and indirect (Wasserman 2015). Direct effects include fatality, emigration out of burned areas, immigration into new areas. Indirect effects is changes in vegetative structure, diversity, species composition, and other components of their habitat. Species responses to wildfire depends on these direct and indirect effects of fire and how fire regimes and fire severity impacted the landscape (Fulé et al. 2003, Reynolds et al. 2013). Herbivores, such as elk, deer, and bighorn sheep, respond in post fire wilderness due to the open dense canopies that allow an increase in understory plants that herbivores feed on (Bailey and Whittam 2002). For example, elk prefer forage quality that provide their required calorie intake to allow them to successfully produce milk. During early succession, mid succession, and late succession of post fire habitat, forage quality is at its highest during early succession stages in both mesic and xeric sites (Swanson et al. 2011). This suggest that herbivores, like elk, would utilize these early succession post fire areas. Carnivores and mesocarnivores respond to post fire changes as well. Male american black bears and grizzly bears used burned sites increasing their home range post fire. Canids, such as the coyote, use both burned and unburned areas due to food availability (Cunningham et al 2002). The Mount Washburn sites are in landscapes that experienced high severity fires and have an abundance of whitebark pine deadfall in the area. This overabundance of deadfall might detter larger herbivores and carnivores decreasing wildlife species diversity. Wildlife species diversity is an intuitive way to determine an ecosystem s health and status (Edwards and Abivardi 1998). Wildlife species diversity boosts ecosystem productivity due to diversification ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though the texts are written in the genres that are usually used to support the principles and ideas of the philosophy they promote, Animal Farm and The Prophet s Hair undermine these philosophies. • 43. Increasing Mobility of Micro-robotics Essay Chapter Two The Review of the Related Literature Introduction Micro robotics is a field that stresses mobility from being able to fit in tight spaces to being able to navigate varying terrain. Scientists and engineers are often trying to make smaller and more mobile robots as seen in the 3cm long RoACH robot (Hoover, 2008), and the DASH (Birkmeyer, 2009) and iSprawl (Kim, 2006) robots which can reach speeds of up to 15 body lengths a second. A common method to make robots smaller is to reduce the amount of actuators a robot has to both reduce the size of the robot and the weight but this has a negative effect on the robots mobility. The smaller robots become the less mobility they come to have and so in an effort to make robots more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This project also deals with the use of inertial appendages in under actuated miniature robots. An inertial appendage in the form of a tail was added to a robot to study the effects a tail would have on dynamic steering. Tails can contribute to steering through either a shift in the robots center of mass or through the transfer of angular momentum. The goal of this study is to provide a model of a legged robot that successfully uses an inertial tail for faster and sharper turns. Other factors that can affect the robots movement are also studied such as changing the tail s inertia, the friction between the robot and the surface, and motor input voltage. There are also two types of tails that will be tested and compared, a symmetric tail with weights on either side, and an asymmetric tail with half the length and a weight only on one side. The symmetric tail separates the effect of changing the robots center of mass as the system is still balanced but the asymmetric tail changes the robots center of mass which may prove either detrimental or beneficial to the robots mobility. History of Inertial Appendages The idea of inertial appendages first stemmed from a proposal in 1969 by a paleontologist who said that theropod dinosaurs had tails which acted as dynamic stabilizers during rapid or irregular movements. (Libby, 2012) This led to the discovery that other animals such as lizards and cats have been known to use their tails to self right their bodies in free fall. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Due to this, this syndrome has an alternative name, known as 5p , or 5p minus syndrome. Although this genetic defect is able to be diagnosed, the cause of the deletion on the chromosome is unknown. Almost all cases of the Cri du Chat Syndrome are found to have no relation with family members or previous generations. This syndrome is generally not inherited, as the deletion occurs randomly during meiosis (the formation of the gametes). Some of the other symptoms of Cri du Chat Syndrome are mental retardation, hyperactivity, delayed development, small heads, round faces, low nasal bridges, widely spaced eyes, low birth weight, and weak muscle tone. Since the size of the deletion of the genetic material varies between each affected person, these individuals can all show slightly different symptoms and levels of intensity with these symptoms.
