Theme Of Hyperreality In The Crying Of Lot 49
Introduction
Thomas Ruggles Pynchon, Jr. (b. 1937) who was awarded the US National Book Award for Fiction in
1974 for his most renowned novel Gravity Rainbow (1973) is mostly famous for such complicated
novels as V (1963), The Crying of Lot 49 (1966) and Mason Dixon (1977). While writing The Crying
of Lot 49, he was deeply distressed by the irreversible losses of World War II, the probability of
nuclear explosions, and role of the mass media; consequently he repeatedly presents the motifs of loss,
chaos, and entropy in his novel.
Pynchon is the author of seven novels, V (1963), The Crying of A lot 49 (1966), Gravity Rainbow
(1973), Vineland (1990), Mason and Dixon (1997), Against the Day (2006), andInherent Vic (2009).
Among them, the two novels correlating with the notion of reality and media ... Show more content on

Are the speculative nature, parodic playfulness and bookishness of the novels mere form diversions,
which leads us away from reality? To what extend can we distinguish hyperreality from reality, and
the referent, the subject, and its objects? Can media and advertisement shape the character of heroin,
and what consequences do it exposure in character worldview? Are there any structures or are they
only deceptive galaxies of signifier?
Here are some key terms regarding Baudrillad in Richard Smith s The Baudrillard Dictionary:
Simulation:With the advent of realistic media (photography, film, sound recording, TV, digital media)
it has also come to refer to an audio visual experience that artfully mimics but otherwise has no
connection with the reality it presents. It is the notion of a kind of copy which is not merely
indistinguishable from what it copies, but in which the very distinction between copy and original
disappears. Simulation threatens the difference between the true and the false, the real and the
imaginary. Simulating is not pretending. It is replacing the reality

Essay on Napoleon Bonaparte and the Catholic Church
Tension grew between the Catholic Church and France during the French Revolution, leading to a
schism, which deeply devastated the Church s economy. Pope Pius VII and Napoleon Bonaparte came
into power as the French Revolution was ending. For different reasons they both saw the importance
of restoring Roman Catholicism s position in France. The Catholic Church s initial support of
Napoleon greatly affected both parties (O Dwyer 12 14, 43, 49). This statement has led me to ask the
following question: To what extent did the support of Napoleon affect the Church s role as a political
and economic power in France? In this paper I will argue against the traditional view that Napoleon s
contract with the Catholic Church was solely beneficial to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The loss of one of its great powers caused the Catholic Church great distress. Pope Pius VI, who ruled
during the Revolution, died and in 1799, Pope Pius VII was elected. Pius VII inherited many
problems, including the division between France and Rome.
Just as Pope Pius VII was coming into power, Napoleon Bonaparte, a young, military genius, was
elected as First Consul of the Post Revolutionary French government (O Dwyer 43, 49). Both
Napoleon and Pius VII saw the importance in ending the schism and restoring Catholicism in France.
Napoleon saw the reestablishment of the Catholic Church in France as a social bedrock and as an
ideological anodyne (Ellis 41) and used it to gain immediate political power. The Catholic Church
wanted influence in France again and was willing to strike a deal with Napoleon to do so. In 1801 they
officially published the Concordat, which restored Catholicism as the main religion in France (O
Dwyer 56). In 1802, Napoleon, without Pius consent, added an additional a list of police regulations
that severely restricted the Papacy s role in France (Ellis 41), known as the Organic Articles, which
aggravated Pope Pius VII. The Church s support of the Concordat legitimized Napoleon s autocratic
rule, but it also stopped the schism that the Revolution had started. From Napoleon s coronation in
1804 to the imprisonment of Pope Pius VII in Fontainebleau, the relationship

Fear In The Tell-Tale Heart And The Masque Of Red Death
Fear is beneficial and dismissive
Fear is beneficial. Being cautious in the world is a survival skill and alerts you about your
surroundings. Fear is like a restraint holding you back from the temptation of irrational acts. Except
when the fears releases and lead to paranoia. Sometimes fear clouds the mind of rational thoughts
therefore, it that may or will become an obsession. In Edgar Allan Poe s The Tell Tale Heart , The Pit
and the Pendulum , and The Masque of Red Death , all of the main characters experience fear. Edgar
Allan Poe uses symbolism, irony, and imagery to illuminate how fear distorts the protagonist s mind
and resulting in such fear. The symbols in The Tell Tale Heart and The Masque of Red Death are the
items that the narrator obsesses over due to emotional excesses. An example would be the eye from
The Tell Tale Heart and how that it may be symbolism of his father s judgement. The judgement of the
father s eye haunted [ him ] day and night. (page 74). The eye haunted man with the symbolic of him

A Human Shadow s Form
A human shadow, in its most basic form, requires three things: exposure to a light source, a person,
and a surface to cast the shadow onto. A shadow s form is entirely dependent on the person creating
the shadow, and its light source; it can move, shrink, stretch, and stay still, based off of those
movements made by its creator and the respective position of the light. But what is a shadow that does
not have a creator, or person, blocking the light beams from reaching the desired surface? And how
does one s perception of a shadow change when viewing a shadow of this type? On the morning

A Diary That Affected The World By Anne Frank
Anne Frank wrote a diary that affected the world by showing she was a normal girl who wanted to be
her true self. Her diary was the only place she could really be herself (Frank 1). Anne s dream was that
her diary would one day become a book. She wrote that she wanted to be famous and to help others.
Her influence on World War II was based on her life experiences in hiding, and her diary.
Frank s life was full of hard times and persecution. She was born on July 12, 1929. She received her
famous diary on her 13th birthday, the same day of her very first diary entry (Frank 1). It was wartime
1942 in Amsterdam and Adolf Hitler was at his height of power (Byers 36). Hitler had given Germany
the scapegoat they had been looking for: the Jews. World War II was raging across Europe, making its
way toward changing the life of Anne Frank. The Nazis had taken much of Europe and there was
barely a place the Jews could go without fear of being persecuted. The Nazi special forces, the SS
Army, had taken away many of the Jewish families in Amsterdam and were offering a cash reward to
anyone who turned in a Jew. The Nazis isolated the Jews from daily life: They only allowed the Jews
to walk, gave them a curfew, banned them from swimming and going to the movies, and made them
wear a yellow star so they could quickly be identified. Hitler fanned the flame of an age old prejudice
until it exploded into a violent hatred (Lewis 4). The icing on the cake for the Jews was when Hitler

Melia In The Ruined Maid
Throughout the poem, The Ruined Maid , Melia who represents the ruined maid literally shows us a
different version of what it means to be ruined. A former country maiden, now turned into an
illustrious town girl, Melia, happens to meet with an old friend of hers who is from the country like
her. Being a country girl, she is filled with admiration and envy upon seeing Melia as though she was
seeing her in a new light. When Melia is asked by her friend as to how she became so prosperous,
Melia in turn asks her if she hadn t known that Melia had been ruined. Melia s friend then points out
various instances of the life that Melia had lived through as a country girl. If we were to put ourselves
in the place of Melia s friend and compare our lives with Melia s, we might just appear to be finding
ourselves more ruined than Melia : You left us in tatters, without shoes or socks (line 5 ) . ... Show

When asked about the changes in manner of her speech from an ordinary country style talk to talking
in words that seem suited mostly for those of high class status, Melia replied : Some polish is gained

mannerism of speaking, she eventually acquires this high taste. Melia s physical transformation also
astonishes her friend since Melia s hands had changed from being country or farm hands to those like
a lady as well as a beautiful change in Melia s facial complexion. Melia indicates that another
advantage of being ruined is not having to do any work like her friend. Melia also seems to be more

The digital divide is a term used for to describe the growing distance between those with access to
information and those who don t have the access. We would be a perfect example of the digital divide.
What makes us a perfect example would be your lack of access to the internet and electronic devices
like smartphone, computers, and the internet and how I have access to all of that information at the
touch of my fingers. One aspect of the digital divide is the speed in which people can access
information. The difference between high speed internet and dialup can have a major impact on
staying informed. One way we are trying to bridge the digital divided is by trying to increase access to
the internet. Organizations like the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have been leading advocates of
provided the public access to the internet with networked computers in libraries since 1997. Some
would say we are succeeding at least in the United States now that nearly 99 percent of public libraries
have internet access available to the public. Now we are working on expanding the number of
computers in those libraries. With the increasing use of smartphones the digital divide between
different white Americans and African Americans shrunk greatly. Globally we face a harder time
closing the gap since the digital divide closely follows behind the economic divide. As the

Villanelle
Death is inevitable; there is no going around it. Do not go gentle into that good night by Dylan
Thomas is a short villanelle poem written in 1951. The author was born in Swansea, Wales on October
27, 1914. Raised by his father, David John Thomas, which was an English master at the local grammar
school, and became a big influence for Dylan Thomas. In the author s poem the speaker addresses his
father that if he must die then he should die with a fight. Nevertheless, the poem has a universal
meaning in which humanity should not fear the unknown, but they should confront it.
At the beginning of the poem, the speaker argues to not go peaceful by using aggressive choice of

In the past, Poets usually employed the villanelle for light or bucolic subjects, a kind of peacefully
rural poem or pastoral . In the poem, the villanelle is used in an uncommon form for the following
reason: the poem does not preach calm, as might be expected, but rage, rage against death, that event
often equated with Nature as an ultimate physical force (Jhan). The ending of a villanelle is the most
important because it is the central message of the poem. The speaker is persuading the readers the
importance to not die without a word. With the last stanza And you, my father, there on the sad height
(Thomas 16). The readers can conclude that the speaker is a son standing next to the deathbed of his
father. Although deathbeds are low to the ground, the admiration of his father is a sad height because
he looked up to him. Coincidently, the author was experiencing the same situation, making this poem
very personal. One can only imagine these were his last thoughts as his father was dying. The readers
can assume this poem was written in villanelle form to present it to his father. In the last stanza the
speaker is imploring to his father to not go peacefully, but to be part of these men that refuse to die. In
these last lines it finalizes the poem into a villanelle Do not go gentle into that good night

What makes a large organization like Wal Mart financially successful? One could say it is the result of
outstanding personnel or perhaps a strong determination to succeed. These factors certainly contribute.
However the key to financial success in organizations lies in good accounting. Since early civilization
began, accounting has been an important part of our financial transactions. In today s world our use of
modern accounting systems and accurate financial statements are critical components that make
modern organizations successful. To facilitate understanding of this point one must understand how ...

As organizations utilize software and the internet together to make transactions and complete
accounting functions, the threat of cybercrime comes into play. Cyber crime against private business is
growing, and consuming a larger share of Federal Bureau of Investigation resources than ever before...
(Kelly, M., amp; 42 staff, 2011) Modern organizations that utilize technology must now use their
resources to protect themselves from malicious cybercrime activities. A hacker could illegally intrude
into an organizations information network and use accounting software to mine information and steal
assets at a relatively low risk of being caught. With new threats introduced in the accounting
environment, modern organizations now must work hard to safeguard information that was not at such
a risk prior to new technology. Outside threats are a real danger to accounting functions in modern
organizations, but other dangers to success lie from within.
Accounting is the information system that measures business activity, processes the data into reports,
and communicates the results to decision makers. (Horngren amp; Harrison, 2007, p. 4) Decision
makers within an organization need accurate accounting information to manage organizational
activities and turn these efforts into success. Internal accounting accuracy plays just as important of a

Effective parental leave policy: a change in impact factors across three articles from 2008 2014.
Introduction
Traditional family model changed a lot these years, women have their own jobs and cannot pay all
their attention to their families as they used to. Therefore, parental leave policy is put forward for to
decrease work family conflict for both men and women. Parental leave is an employee benefit
available in almost all countries, including maternity, paternity, and adoption leave. During this
period, the policy supports new parents in two ways: offering job protected leave and offering

first one, which point out a new idea about the importance of flexible work place. Finally, after
reading and comparing the first two articles, I chose the recent article (Allen et al, 2014), which put
forward a new viewpoint about the attitude of employers, from the citing of the first one. These three
articles show the change of thinking and focus on different impact factors of the policy efficiency.

Vonnegut Death Theme
Death is used in various ways throughout literature. Death can be used to alter the characters, as well
as an attempt to try and connect with the audience. Themes and motifs are also employed in many
novels. Both can be traced throughout an entire book. In Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five, the
theme of suffering after loss is employed, along with the motif of so it goes , within scenes of death to
illustrate how Billy, the protagonist, realizes he does not have control of his circumstances. In
Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five, death seems to follow Billy. Everybody was killed except Billy. So it
goes. While Billy was recuperating in a hospital in Vermont, his wife died accidentally of carbon
monoxide poisoning. So it goes. (Vonnegut 25) Billy always seems to be around, and survive
catastrophic, and deadly situations. A whole plane full of people die, but he survives. While recovering
from the crash, his wife attempts to visit him and she dies. Throughout the book he has to suffer
through, and deal with the loss of people in his life. Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five employs the
saying so it goes repeatedly as a motif throughout the story. Billy has dealt with so much tragedy that

Throughout the Strait, its width and depth changes. At different points in the Strait, the width varies
from twenty one to fifty two nautical miles (thirty three to ninety six kilometers) (globalsecurity). The
lowest depth is twenty seven fathoms (fifty meters). Due to the shallow depth of the Strait, oil tankers
and cargo ships can only use certain paths to sail through the Strait. Ships can only sail in a ten
nautical mile wide section at the narrowest point ( Strait of Hormuz , Briney). These factors limit the
number of shipping lanes, which then limits the number of ships able to pass each day.
In the past thousand years, several empires have controlled the Strait. The ancient Greeks and later the
Persian Empire used the Strait to conquer the modern day Gulf Region. The island of Hormoz, which
is controlled today by Iran, was the capital of the Kingdom of Hormuz from the fourteenth to late
sixteenth century. The name Hormuz is derived from the Persian God Hormoz. In the early
seventeenth century the Portuguese took control of the Kingdom of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz

changes in mandatory subjects for bargaining without first providing the union with an opportunity to

an issue represents a mandatory subject for bargaining: 1. Whether it is plainly germane to the

Art Based Education
William Bennet, the former US Secretary of Education, claims The arts are an essential element of
education . . . music, dance, painting . . . are all keys that unlock profound human understanding and
accomplishment (ilmea.org, 2016, para 11). The arts are a crucial component to the success of students
overall experience in the academic setting. Students exposed in the arts throughout their educational
experience endure more benefits then those who go throughout school with no exposure to them.
Schools must require creative art programs in the K 12 curricula, because of the academic, emotional,
and social benefits for students.
Discussion
Academic. The most important aspect of school is the academics. What if the arts contributed to the
academic benefits that students experienced? Arsenault (2009) describes how creative art programs
can work alongside school subjects and help benefit the students to prosper through their studies.
Research also shows that an art based learning achieve higher scores on academic tests (Miller,

their school curricula demonstrate better academic success in all their subjects. Higher academic test

Rehabilitation Of Rail Transport For Relieve Traffic...
B. Rehabilitation of rail transport to relieve traffic congestion
The Tunisian authorities are considering rehabilitating rail transport, especially goods and vehicles
transporting them, in order to decongest the roads. This policy would make an invaluable service to
the country and would bring substantial gains to the entire national community. It should be noted that
more than one million vehicles are traveling on roads. This makes traffic density a real problem for
users, especially in towns and their surroundings, despite the improvement of most roads, the
extension of the motorway network and the construction of hundreds of interchanges. The number of
victims of accidents each year is around 1,600, not to mention the number of injured. Faced with these
realities, it is necessary to draw inspiration from the experiences of other countries by rehabilitating
the transport by rail. The promotion of rail in freight transport is a strategic choice, given its
competitive cost, and its safe and non polluting aspect. Since always it is the SNCFT which ensures
the evacuation of the goods and phosphate with a competitive price. In 2009, 6.1 million tonnes of
phosphates were transported by rail. SNCFT transports 11 million tonnes of cargo per year, of which
more than 8 million tonnes of phosphates are transported to the processing plants located in Gabes and
Sfax. However, since January 2011, this activity has been interrupted due to frequent socio economic
protests in the region.

How Did Lamarck Contribute To The Scientific Field
Who is Jean Baptiste Lamarck? What did he contribute to his scientific field? Why was his research
important? These are questions easy enough to answer, but the harder question is, how has his findings
influenced us today? And this is an essential question in understanding why Jean Baptiste Lamarck is
just a small piece to a much larger puzzle that shows has science itself has evolved over time.
John Baptiste Lamarck was born in Bazentin le Pertit, in Northern France, in 1744. He was born into a
military family, and while attending the Jesuit seminary at Amiens, his father died and he decided to
join the French campaign in Germany in the summer of 1761. He remained in the military, until 5
years after the end of his German campaign, until ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lamarck realized that although the Museum s collection was thoroughly enormous, it was also
thoroughly in chaos; there was very poor organization at the time. Lamarck s research was, at the time,
considered the least prestigious of the fields of biology to study, but what not one of his colleagues
would realize is that through his studies, he himself had created a new field of biology. After studying,
classifying, and lecturing on everything from worms to spiders, and everything in between, for around
ten years, Lamarck published two books, one of zoology, and the other on paleontology. His most
famous one was the Philosophie zooloique , published in 1809, and very much portraying Lamarck s
ideas on evolution.
Through his research, Lamarck observed many similarities in the different types of animals he studied,
these fascinated him and allowed him to draw his own scientific conclusions. First, he believed life
was not a fixed system and that When environments changed, organisms had to change their behavior
to survive. In short, he believed the body would understand how to adapt to different environments
over generations. He believed these adaptions were a process that the body was trying to form to

Supporting Prayer in Public Schools Essay
Our Father... Denied For centuries, the debate has existed whether or not to allow prayer in public
schools. Many Americans feel it is not right of the schools to teach religion. With all the diversity
associated with the United States, public schools cannot select one standard religion to practice, due to
the cultural and religious differences in the country. Not only are schools the storm center of
controversy involving religious differences, they are the principal institution charged with transmitting
the identity and mission of the United States from one generation to the next. If we fail in our school
policies and classrooms to model and to teach how to live with differences, we endanger our

Prayer should be recited only in the privacy of one s own head or home. To allow individual prayer at
one s own choice is legal. To mandate standard prayer is illegal. The good thing about this is one can
choose to pray, or not, to whatever God they choose. Therefore someone praying to Allah, Buddha, or
Satan cannot require a Christian or a Jew to participate. Atheists have the right to choose not to
participate. A teacher or a government official cannot stop someone from praying silently. Public
schools are for all children, regardless of their race, sex, or religion. Schools are supported by all
taxpayers. The U.S. Supreme Court has replaced freedom of religion, guaranteed by the Constitution,
for freedom from religion. To ban school prayer diminishes the religious freedom of students who
would like to pray and forces them to act according to the dictates of a non religious minority. School
prayer would result in many societal benefits. The public school system is tragically disintegrating as
evidenced by the rise in school shootings, increasing drug use, alcoholism, teen pregnancy, and HIV
transmission. School prayer can help combat these issues, would instill a sense of morality and is
desperately needed to protect our children. The issues of prayer in the school system used to be on the
back burner but now it has been moved upstage, front and center. The discussion of a school prayer
amendment is not so much about prayer itself but more about what kind of prayer

Southern Renaissance Influence
The Southern Renaissance was a time during the 1920s and 1930s where there was a change in
southern literature. Even though most of the Southern Renaissance took place during the 1920s and
30s it was still affected by WWII. The Southern Renaissance is important because it saw a bunch of
new southern writers and affected southern literature. People say that the Southern renaissance ended
before WWII but it actually continued after WWII and was Affected by it. One example of how WWII
had an effect on the Southern Renaissance is ...the coming of the second World War and its aftermath
not only confirmed those changes but it created a modern day south that in numerous respects seemed
to bear little relationship to the community in which the leading writers of the Southern Renaissance
had been born a half century or so earlier (Rubin 463). This quote shows what the second world war
did to the south. The Southern Renaissance and WWII also had effects on segregation and black
novelists. One example of the effect the renaissance had on segregation is the period in which it
emerged saw the south decidedly on the defensive in its efforts to stave off challenges to segregation
(Abadie 14). A good example of how the renaissance affected black novelists is the depression in the
1930s and World War II in the 1940s are central events in American social history. Yet southern black
novels during these two decades rarely do more than hint at the effects either event had on the lives of

The Sun Is One Of The Most Significant Sources Of...
The Sun is one of the most significant sources of renewable energy. In one hour the Earth receives
enough energy from the Sun to meet its needs for nearly a year. A Photovoltaic (PV) cell is a
semiconductor device that directly converts the energy of solar radiation into electric energy. In
general, an element that converts sunlight into electricity is called a PV device. The fundamental PV
device is the PV cell, while a set of connected cells form a panel or module. As an array either a
module or a set of modules can be considered cite{Breza2013}. The purpose of this chapter is to
provide an introduction into the photovoltaic solar energy and to present the fundamental knowledges
on the behavior and the functioning of the PV devices. Furthermore, the different PV models are
discussed. section{Solar Energy Conversion} The basic element of a photovoltaic system (PV) is solar

My Passion In Music
My passion is music, and there isn t anything that beats it. I ve always done it as a kid. I started off
with guitar lessons at the age of 5 and just fell in love with the idea of putting your emotion through
chords and melodies. Although I may not have been a pro, I still enjoyed it no matter what. Later on in
my musical career, I realized a lot of music you create is all about owning what you do. And trials
after trials made me the musician I am today.
Our band named Saluda formerly named Rescue Party grew up in high school together playing gigs
every other night at the town s bars. It wasn t that hard to get these gigs because we were really the
only band in our town, Spartanburg. Our very first gig was at this small bar with about 5 or 6 people in
the audience. Half of them weren t even listening but it was the first time we could say we made
money because of music, and that really got us motivated. We barely knew what we were doing most
of the time because we were just kids and had no knowledge about the live music scene. We finally
graduated and half of the band was in high school and the other half college. It made us practice a lot
less, but we grew a lot in our instruments. As I went through my first year in college I became way
more into the music. I was practicing 5 hours everyday on covers and originals. This was making me
grow so much as a musician.

Benjamin Jonson And The American Revolution
Throughout the 16th and 17th centuries, Europe experienced a cultural revolution that would
ultimately transform thinking for years to come. In particular, this revolution was known as the
Renaissance. While most of this Renaissance way of thinking remained contained in countries such as
Germany and Italy, some of it began to diffuse into the heart of England itself, more precisely
Westminster. Westminster, England, a central city within the London area, is most known for the
elaborate palace in which the Royal Family lives. However, during the Renaissance, this city also gave
birth to one of history s few literary innovators: Benjamin Jonson. Through Jonson s influential works
in drama, poetry, and literature, Ben Jonson became one of the most influential authors of the early
17th century. Benjamin Jonson, who is most known for the popularization of the comedy of humors
was born in Westminster, England on June 11, 1572. He comes from a line of Anglo Scottish border
people, who historically have had trouble with the English since the beginning of time. Johnson s
father was a clergyman who died in his early childhood and as a result of this, his mother eventually
remarried to a master bricklayer or mason in today s terms. Jonson attend school first at St. Martin s
Lane, one of London s most prestigious secondary schools. He later went on to attend Westminster

13th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment
The 13th Pennsylvania Reserves Regiment (42nd Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment) were said to be
superior marksmen, and during the first year of the Civil War, they distinguished themselves as
fighters and sharpshooters. They were organized into the 149th and 150th Regiments of the
Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. Their most important contribution to the Battle of Gettysburg
occurred on McPherson s Ridge on July 1, 1863, where they fought one of the most desperate actions
of the battle. During the battle, the regiment drew heavy artillery fire from Confederate guns. The
shellfire was unremitting. The regiment held their ground and put up the fight of their life until the
Union line collapsed and the Confederates forced them to fall back. The Bucktails defense at

Based on the questionnaire administered to BBC users, we can see that BBC is seen very favorably by
its users. BBC as a brand is very strong, which is something the CEO of BBC WW will need to use
effectively. BBC WW is also in a very strong financial position. Based on the financial data provided,
the profits generated by BBC WW nearly tripled over the previous three years, and were on track to
meet the £100M target for the FY2006 2007. Lastly, BBC WW has a very well diversified portfolio of

Weaknesses
Due to the fact that BBC operates under a Royal Charter, it tends to be more conservative and it s very
focused in its programing on British culture. This can make it more difficult for BBC WW to see
programing in cultures that are not fans of the British culture. BBC WW is also significantly under

Finally, there seems to be a communication gap between BBC WW and BBC when it comes to

Wordsworth stood on the cliff not only with the sense of present pleasure ; (63) but he joyfully
anticipated the moments for future years ; (65). He came back to reality and began to analyze the
situation after his reminiscing. Wordsworth realized that he had lost some guidance and was searching
for the presence of nature when returning to the Wye. He remembered when he used to wander and
roam as free as a roe but as he matured he felt content with tapping into his memories of his youth
because as Wordsworth stated, That time is past? other gifts have allowed; for such loss, I would

of nature. The ad features vibrant colors and picturesque scenes which would appeal to his taste. As
Bernard explains, I want to look at the sea in peace...one can t even look with that beastly noise
(Huxley 90). Instead of playing Electro Magnetic Golf, Bernard proposed to view the Lake District
with Lenina. This shows how much more he values being alone with nature and his own thoughts.
Statistics and the advertising method of logos fill the ad for the crematorium. The ad asks the reader to
help society reach 400 tons of Phosphorus, following the 266,666 citizens that already contributed.
The statistics appeal to logic of a human because many want to follow the example of others. The ad

Homelessness Praxis Lab Report
Homelessness has proven to be a stubborn community issue in Utah, so much so that it was listed as
one of Utah s top ten priorities by the Utah Foundation. This is due to the fact that, according to the
Department of Workforce Services, nearly 15,000 people are considered homeless (continuous
homeless for one year) as of 2015. The homeless population, in addition to having no stable home,
faces a range of challenges in both their health and social situations. These issues include substance
abuse, mental health disorders, criminal records, and extended periods of unemployment. Despite the
state providing funding for housing, particularly with House Bill 436 of 2016, these issues will
certainly impede the ability of these people to maintain stable housing. For the purpose of the Praxis
Lab idea, the focus of this Praxis Lab description will be on the substance abuse problems and mental
health disorders the homeless experience. The lab would incorporate students majoring in Health
Promotion Education, Psychology, Sociology, and Health Society Policy. ... Show more content on

Nearly a quarter of the homeless face both substance abuse and mental issues, therefore individualized
care, while potentially effective in individual cases, will be slow in helping the homeless population as
a whole. Sociology students will examine the scope of the homeless population, encompassing issues
with poverty, social structure, and deviant behavior. Health Society Policy students will explore the
lifestyle, environmental exposure, and socioeconomic facets of the homeless. Together, these students
will have the purpose of creating a more long term and extensive solution mediated through their
research and

The Influence Of The Modern Period In British And Irish...
The modernist period in British and Irish literature was one of the most important and exciting times
in literary history. The term modernist stemmed from the beginning of the 20th century labelled the
modern period. The modern period was a time of confusion and transitions, mostly due to the result of
people returning from World War I. The modern period was an era of massive unemployment and
technological changes. Freud, Jung, and Marx were redefining human identity, Assembly lines and
factories were being introduced, and gender differences were starting to crumble. The modern period
was a time of change, and the field of Literature was no exception. Susan Gorsky, in her book titled
Virginia Woolf, states that Virginia Woolf perhaps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Poetry, Drama, and fiction were subjected to intensive scrutiny and extensive redefinition, producing
some of the most unusual and often difficult literary creations in English: Eliot s Wasteland, Yeat s
Plays for Dancers, and the fiction of Joyce and Lawrence is some examples. Modernist literature
reflects in it s structure as well as in it s content the overturning of tradition; the instances upon new
design produced plays and stories without plots or recognizably human characters, poems without
rhyme or meter (16, 17). The Modernist author was able to identify with their audience by creating
stories that not only asked important questions, but also got under the reader s skin. In George Orwell
s essay titled Inside the Whale, he addresses the fact that James Joyce s Ulysses is remarkable due to
the fact of its commonplaceness of its material. (Inside The Whale and Other Essays, 11). The reader
is able to put themselves in the characters shoes, the characters are very three dimensional, and like
modern life their stories are not so much like a fairy tales, as they are of everyday life. The character
Joyce creates in Ulysses enters many different states of consciousness, dream states, drunkenness....
demonstrating the ability modern literature has in relating the ideas of consciousness, in a way that the
reader would be able to identify with. Orwell goes further to say that Ulysses was filled with a Whole

Autobiography Of My Childhood
I am 16 years old. My dog is a mix of Husky and Saint Bernard. My favorite flavor of cake is
chocolate. I manage the wrestling team, and have since 6th grade. I own a Toyota T100. I have a 2
year old niece. I like roses. I want to go to college for business so I can own my own bakery. I have
two brothers. My house looks like a log cabin on the outside, but it s just a regular house on the inside.
Though mint chocolate chip is my favorite flavor of ice cream, I love changing it up and getting
different things, like a chocolate vanilla twist in a waffle cone or a strawberry milkshake. I was
student of the month in 7th and 9th grade. I go to Arundel, which is right out of Biddeford and maybe
25 minutes from Portland, a lot. I hate out of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cassie Martin Book Report
Cassie Martin is the daughter of a famous star comedienne Abby Grant. Cassie doesn t really seem
impressed by her moms fame or Hollywood at all. She then meets a film student named Marc Jenkins.
She finds him very appealing and wants to help finance his film. Although when she ask to get money
from her mom she refuses and becomes angry. She still wants to help Marc and thinks she is old
enough to help him, but she doesn t want to betray her mother. I give this book 3.5 stars out of 4.
My favorite character is Cassie, she is outgoing, kind, and really smart. She is outgoing towards her
new friends including Marc Jenkins. She is very kind for helping him finance for his movie. She is
also smart because she finds different ways to help Marc as much as she could without having to ask
her mom for money. Even when her mom gets her upset, she gets angry but finds a way to change the
situation.I also think that she is nice to her mom but her mom isn t nice to her back when she ask for
money. This is why Cassie is my favorite character, but also Marc too. ... Show more content on

New Crossover Operator Based On The Machine And Mutation...
Abstract To solve the job shop scheduling problem more effectively, some genetic operators were
designed. In order to increase the diversity of the population, a mixed selection operator based on the
fitness value and the concentration value was given. To make full use of the characteristics of the
problem itself, new crossover operator based on the machine and mutation operator based on the
critical path were specifically designed. To find the critical path, a new algorithm to find the critical
path from schedule was presented. Furthermore, a local search operator was designed, which can
improve the local search ability of GA greatly. Based on all these, a hybrid genetic algorithm was
proposed and its convergence was proved. The computer simulations were made on a set of
benchmark problems and the results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
Keywords Hybrid genetic algorithm, Job shop scheduling, hybrid scheduler.
1. INTRODUCTION
Job shop is a system that process n number of tasks on m number of machines. In this type of
environment, products are made to order and in a low volume. Usually, these orders are differ in term
of processing requirements, materials needed, processing time, processing sequence and setup times.
Genetic algorithms are inspired by Darwin s theory about evolution. Solution to a problem solved by
genetic algorithms is evolved. Algorithm is started with a set of solutions (represented by
chromosomes) called population.

Hemophilia Research Papers
Hemophilia A
Hemophilia A, an X linked genetic disease, is the most common coagulation disorder with an
incidence of about 1 2 in 10,000 males and is caused by mutations in the factor VIII (FVIII)
coagulation gene [PubMed1]. It causes infected individuals to not be able to coagulate their blood
efficiently or at all when getting a cut or some injury in which blood is exposed. This disease can be
very deadly because of major blood loss.
Hemophilia A is an X linked recessive disorder. This means that in order for a female to be affected
with the disease, she must inherit the recessive alleles from a mother that is either infected with the
disease or a carrier of the disease and a father that is infected with the disease, since the father only ...

This is because this allele can arise simply from mutations. However, once the mutation in the
hemophilia gene is present, the chance of passing it on exists [HOG]. It is possible, however, for
hemophilia to disappear from the family tree as well [HOG]. This can happen if all family members
who have hemophilia or who carry the hemophilia gene give birth to children who by chance do not
get the gene [HOG]. As far as the level of severity goes, the clotting factor level will be about the
same from one generation to the next. For example, a son who inherited the recessive allele from his
mother will typically have the same severity level as his mother, if she also has the disease. Another
example is that the daughter of a man who is infected with a mild recessive allele will typically carry
the allele for mild hemophilia as well. Parents children will all carry the same level [HOG]. This will
usually be the case, unless of course another mutation happens upon the existing mutation causing a
difference in severity from the parent in comparison to the

Influence of the Eu on Democracy in the Uk
Influence of the EU on Democracy in the UK One of the objectives of the creation of the European
Union was to develop a single market and remove trading barriers so there would be standardisation
of technical regulations and convergence of conditions between European markets. With this in mind,
it saw the need for employers and employees to work together in order to achieve this. The main
statement of the European social policy is the Social Charter (approved by 11 of the then 12 member
states) which seeks to improve working and living conditions and ensure the effective use of human
resource across the EU. This policy seeks to guarantee rights to individuals in areas such as freedom
of movement, improved living and working standards, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The IRA plays a big role in ensuring that employees are fairly treated in the workplace. Organizations
have opted to implement employee relations policies within their organizations as well. These provide
a forum for employee participation and employee involvement. Although organizations in Trinidad
and Tobago are governed by legislation, it is still ineffective in many instances. There are cases where
the recognized majority trade union defy the law and do not comply with the regulations of the IRA.
An example is the No Work Day Campaign by the Public Services Association in January, 2011. This
protest would clearly go against section 69 (1) where public servants are not allowed to take industrial
action. In relation to participation in the EU, various countries have different approaches to
encouraging employee participation. For example, in Germany, a system called co determination is
used where employees and their representatives are involved in all decisions relating to personnel and
other aspects of company policy. It is supported by legislation and involves three methods by which
workers can participate. These methods include a Works Council, Supervisory Board, and
Management Board. Works Councils are formed where there are more than five workers and consists
only of workers representatives. They have rights to receive information on health and safety, jobs,
work changes that adversely affect employees, and the

  • 2. Theme Of Hyperreality In The Crying Of Lot 49 Introduction Thomas Ruggles Pynchon, Jr. (b. 1937) who was awarded the US National Book Award for Fiction in 1974 for his most renowned novel Gravity Rainbow (1973) is mostly famous for such complicated novels as V (1963), The Crying of Lot 49 (1966) and Mason Dixon (1977). While writing The Crying of Lot 49, he was deeply distressed by the irreversible losses of World War II, the probability of nuclear explosions, and role of the mass media; consequently he repeatedly presents the motifs of loss, chaos, and entropy in his novel. Pynchon is the author of seven novels, V (1963), The Crying of A lot 49 (1966), Gravity Rainbow (1973), Vineland (1990), Mason and Dixon (1997), Against the Day (2006), andInherent Vic (2009). Among them, the two novels correlating with the notion of reality and media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Are the speculative nature, parodic playfulness and bookishness of the novels mere form diversions, which leads us away from reality? To what extend can we distinguish hyperreality from reality, and the referent, the subject, and its objects? Here are some key terms regarding Baudrillad in Richard Smith s The Baudrillard Dictionary: Simulation:With the advent of realistic media (photography, film, sound recording, TV, digital media) it has also come to refer to an audio visual experience that artfully mimics but otherwise has no connection with the reality it presents. It is the notion of a kind of copy which is not merely indistinguishable from what it copies, but in which the very distinction between copy and original disappears. Simulation threatens the difference between the true and the false, the real and the imaginary. Simulating is not pretending. It is replacing the reality ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on Napoleon Bonaparte and the Catholic Church Tension grew between the Catholic Church and France during the French Revolution, leading to a schism, which deeply devastated the Church s economy. Pope Pius VII and Napoleon Bonaparte came into power as the French Revolution was ending. For different reasons they both saw the importance of restoring Roman Catholicism s position in France. The Catholic Church s initial support of Napoleon greatly affected both parties (O Dwyer 12 14, 43, 49). This statement has led me to ask the following question: To what extent did the support of Napoleon affect the Church s role as a political and economic power in France? In this paper I will argue against the traditional view that Napoleon s contract with the Catholic Church was solely beneficial to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The loss of one of its great powers caused the Catholic Church great distress. Pope Pius VI, who ruled during the Revolution, died and in 1799, Pope Pius VII was elected. Pius VII inherited many problems, including the division between France and Rome. Just as Pope Pius VII was coming into power, Napoleon Bonaparte, a young, military genius, was elected as First Consul of the Post Revolutionary French government (O Dwyer 43, 49). Both Napoleon and Pius VII saw the importance in ending the schism and restoring Catholicism in France. Napoleon saw the reestablishment of the Catholic Church in France as a social bedrock and as an ideological anodyne (Ellis 41) and used it to gain immediate political power. The Catholic Church wanted influence in France again and was willing to strike a deal with Napoleon to do so. In 1801 they officially published the Concordat, which restored Catholicism as the main religion in France (O Dwyer 56). In 1802, Napoleon, without Pius consent, added an additional a list of police regulations that severely restricted the Papacy s role in France (Ellis 41), known as the Organic Articles, which aggravated Pope Pius VII. The Church s support of the Concordat legitimized Napoleon s autocratic rule, but it also stopped the schism that the Revolution had started. She received her famous diary on her 13th birthday, the same day of her very first diary entry (Frank 1). It was wartime 1942 in Amsterdam and Adolf Hitler was at his height of power (Byers 36). Hitler had given Germany the scapegoat they had been looking for: the Jews. World War II was raging across Europe, making its way toward changing the life of Anne Frank. The Nazis had taken much of Europe and there was barely a place the Jews could go without fear of being persecuted. The Nazi special forces, the SS Army, had taken away many of the Jewish families in Amsterdam and were offering a cash reward to anyone who turned in a Jew. The Nazis isolated the Jews from daily life: They only allowed the Jews to walk, gave them a curfew, banned them from swimming and going to the movies, and made them wear a yellow star so they could quickly be identified. The ending of a villanelle is the most important because it is the central message of the poem. The speaker is persuading the readers the importance to not die without a word. • 20. Vonnegut Death Theme Death is used in various ways throughout literature. Death can be used to alter the characters, as well as an attempt to try and connect with the audience. Themes and motifs are also employed in many novels. Both can be traced throughout an entire book. In Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five, the theme of suffering after loss is employed, along with the motif of so it goes , within scenes of death to illustrate how Billy, the protagonist, realizes he does not have control of his circumstances. In Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five, death seems to follow Billy. Everybody was killed except Billy. So it goes. While Billy was recuperating in a hospital in Vermont, his wife died accidentally of carbon monoxide poisoning. So it goes. (Vonnegut 25) Billy always seems to be around, and survive catastrophic, and deadly situations. A whole plane full of people die, but he survives. While recovering from the crash, his wife attempts to visit him and she dies. Throughout the book he has to suffer through, and deal with the loss of people in his life. Rehabilitation of rail transport to relieve traffic congestion The Tunisian authorities are considering rehabilitating rail transport, especially goods and vehicles transporting them, in order to decongest the roads. This policy would make an invaluable service to the country and would bring substantial gains to the entire national community. It should be noted that more than one million vehicles are traveling on roads. This makes traffic density a real problem for users, especially in towns and their surroundings, despite the improvement of most roads, the extension of the motorway network and the construction of hundreds of interchanges. The number of victims of accidents each year is around 1,600, not to mention the number of injured. Faced with these realities, it is necessary to draw inspiration from the experiences of other countries by rehabilitating the transport by rail. The promotion of rail in freight transport is a strategic choice, given its competitive cost, and its safe and non polluting aspect. In particular, this revolution was known as the Renaissance. While most of this Renaissance way of thinking remained contained in countries such as Germany and Italy, some of it began to diffuse into the heart of England itself, more precisely Westminster. Westminster, England, a central city within the London area, is most known for the elaborate palace in which the Royal Family lives. However, during the Renaissance, this city also gave birth to one of history s few literary innovators: Benjamin Jonson. Based on the financial data provided, the profits generated by BBC WW nearly tripled over the previous three years, and were on track to meet the £100M target for the FY2006 2007. Lastly, BBC WW has a very well diversified portfolio of media to meet any demand. Weaknesses Due to the fact that BBC operates under a Royal Charter, it tends to be more conservative and it s very focused in its programing on British culture. This can make it more difficult for BBC WW to see programing in cultures that are not fans of the British culture. BBC WW is also significantly under staffed in its international offices, which could make it difficult to implement major strategy changes. Analysis of Tintern Abbey by William Wordsworth Essay Analysis of Tintern Abbey by William Wordsworth William Wordsworth existed in a time when society and its functions were beginning to rapidly pick up. The poem that he Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey, on Revisiting the Banks of the Wye , gave him a chance to reflect upon his quick paced life by taking a moment to slow down and absorb the beauty of nature that allows one to see into the life of things ; (line 49). Wordsworth s Tintern Abbey ; takes you on a series of emotional states by trying to sway readers and himself, that the loss of innocence and intensity over time is compensated by an accumulation of knowledge and insight. ; Wordsworth accomplishes to prove that although time was lost along with his innocence, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wordsworth stood on the cliff not only with the sense of present pleasure ; (63) but he joyfully anticipated the moments for future years ; (65). He came back to reality and began to analyze the situation after his reminiscing. Wordsworth realized that he had lost some guidance and was searching for the presence of nature when returning to the Wye. He remembered when he used to wander and roam as free as a roe but as he matured he felt content with tapping into his memories of his youth because as Wordsworth stated, That time is past? other gifts have allowed; for such loss, I would believe, abundant recompense ; (83 88). He realized that he was involved with more mature things in life because he had become more intelligent through the years and saw nature in the light of his intelligence. Yet, he insisted that he was still a lover of the meadows and the woods, and the mountains; and of all that we behold from this green earth ; (102 105) but indeed, in a more composed way. Nature played a major role in this poet s life but it was not all about his physical senses that he took as reality. It was due to the fact that he was a worshipper of Nature (152) and he knew that nature never did betray (122) him. And those thoughts were what had comforted and encouraged him to connect with nature through his mind. He wanted to affirm to his readers that his mind not only receives sensation and ... This is due to the fact that, according to the Department of Workforce Services, nearly 15,000 people are considered homeless (continuous homeless for one year) as of 2015. The homeless population, in addition to having no stable home, faces a range of challenges in both their health and social situations. These issues include substance abuse, mental health disorders, criminal records, and extended periods of unemployment. Despite the state providing funding for housing, particularly with House Bill 436 of 2016, these issues will certainly impede the ability of these people to maintain stable housing. • 46. New Crossover Operator Based On The Machine And Mutation... Abstract To solve the job shop scheduling problem more effectively, some genetic operators were designed. In order to increase the diversity of the population, a mixed selection operator based on the fitness value and the concentration value was given. To make full use of the characteristics of the problem itself, new crossover operator based on the machine and mutation operator based on the critical path were specifically designed. To find the critical path, a new algorithm to find the critical path from schedule was presented. Furthermore, a local search operator was designed, which can improve the local search ability of GA greatly. Based on all these, a hybrid genetic algorithm was proposed and its convergence was proved. The computer simulations were made on a set of benchmark problems and the results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. Keywords Hybrid genetic algorithm, Job shop scheduling, hybrid scheduler. 1. INTRODUCTION Job shop is a system that process n number of tasks on m number of machines. In this type of environment, products are made to order and in a low volume. Usually, these orders are differ in term of processing requirements, materials needed, processing time, processing sequence and setup times. Hemophilia Research Papers Hemophilia A Hemophilia A, an X linked genetic disease, is the most common coagulation disorder with an incidence of about 1 2 in 10,000 males and is caused by mutations in the factor VIII (FVIII) coagulation gene [PubMed1]. It causes infected individuals to not be able to coagulate their blood efficiently or at all when getting a cut or some injury in which blood is exposed. This disease can be very deadly because of major blood loss. Hemophilia A is an X linked recessive disorder. This means that in order for a female to be affected with the disease, she must inherit the recessive alleles from a mother that is either infected with the disease or a carrier of the disease and a father that is infected with the disease, since the father only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because this allele can arise simply from mutations. However, once the mutation in the hemophilia gene is present, the chance of passing it on exists [HOG]. It is possible, however, for hemophilia to disappear from the family tree as well [HOG]. This can happen if all family members who have hemophilia or who carry the hemophilia gene give birth to children who by chance do not get the gene [HOG]. As far as the level of severity goes, the clotting factor level will be about the same from one generation to the next. For example, a son who inherited the recessive allele from his mother will typically have the same severity level as his mother, if she also has the disease. Another example is that the daughter of a man who is infected with a mild recessive allele will typically carry the allele for mild hemophilia as well. Parents children will all carry the same level [HOG]. This will usually be the case, unless of course another mutation happens upon the existing mutation causing a difference in severity from the parent in comparison to the ... The main statement of the European social policy is the Social Charter (approved by 11 of the then 12 member states) which seeks to improve working and living conditions and ensure the effective use of human resource across the EU. There are cases where the recognized majority trade union defy the law and do not comply with the regulations of the IRA. An example is the No Work Day Campaign by the Public Services Association in January, 2011. This protest would clearly go against section 69 (1) where public servants are not allowed to take industrial action. In relation to participation in the EU, various countries have different approaches to encouraging employee participation. It is supported by legislation and involves three methods by which workers can participate. These methods include a Works Council, Supervisory Board, and Management Board.
