Aristotle s Influence On Democracy
After democracy was introduced in Athens around the 5th century B.C.E., the majority of the Greek
intellectual community condemned it as a form of communal tyranny. Socrates was put to trial and
executed after a vote by the Athenian citizens because, despite strong evidence negating their
arguments, the common people blamed him for corrupting the city s youth. Aristotle would later
argue in his writings that the most effective democracyshould include equal power between the
rich minority and the poor majority, so the poor could not take advantage of the rich. In other
words, Aristotle felt that the poor should have a disproportionately small voice in democracy,
perhaps believing that they were fundamentally less capable than the educated bourgeois of
making the right decision. After two and a half thousand millennia have past, we d all like to
believe we ve perfected this tried and failed egalitarian system. After all, the entirety of the first
world operates under political structures that can largely be described as democratic, and there is
something intuitively, morally correct about every person having an equal say, right?
On November 8th, 2016, when Hilary Clinton defeated Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential
election, the academic elite screamed their approval. This was progress. This will go down as the
iconic victory of tolerance over bigotry, of rational thought over dogmatism, of love over hate. After
a historically gruesome campaign, characterized by violence,

Analysis Of Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep
By 2021, nuclear war has devastated the planet Earth. It has led to the mass extinction of several
species and has prompted electric animal development; it has left entire apartment buildings to just
one tenant and has encouraged human connection via the Empathy Box; and it has caused
humankind such heartache, that scientists have created the Penfield Mood Organ to regulate
emotions. Above all else, however, it has led to isolation. The technological advancements that it
has inspired have consumed human s attention and pushed them apart.
In Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, Philip K. Dick suggests that human dependence on
technology has blurred the boundaries between humans and androids; both are in fact cyborgs
hybrid[s] of machine and organism (Haraway, 149). By having his human characters describe such
technologies as the Empathy Box, the Penfield Mood Organ, and television as extension[s] of
[their] bod[ies] and the absence of them as the absence of life, Dick supports post humanist literary
critic Katherine Hayles argument that technology...has become so entwined with the production of
identity that it can no longer meaningfully be separated from the human subject and implies that
technological inventions have replaced personal interactions (Dick, 66 and 5 / Hayles, xiii). Yet the
revelation at the end of the novel that the Empathy Box is fraudulent represents technology s
fraudulence. Technology only deceivingly replaces personal interactions; it fails to

Adjustment Disorder Case Study
In her report dated 23 December 2016, Dr Roesler diagnosed the worker with adjustment disorder
with depressed mood and secondary insomnia. In support of this diagnosis she referred to the
worker s presentation and complaints of trouble sleeping and stress at work that she considered an
aggravating factor.
Dr Roesler stated that while the symptoms were consistent with the original injury, the pain and
disability associated with the back strain was disproportionate.
She noted being concerned by influential relatives at the consultations, and that limited English
renders a conversation more difficult.
Dr Roesler considered the workplace to be a major contributor, although she stated that it was not
solely responsible for his current condition. She cited other contributing factors including the
language barrier, issues with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The worker reported that people at work had spoken to him in an unfriendly way and that
management treated him badly upon his return to work. While he had returned to work in a part
time basis performing light duties, his low back pain had not improved. The worker reported
difficulty sleeping due to low back pain and that he wanted to get off WorkCover as soon as he
could. The worker also reported that his supervisor had launched a psychological war against him
and there were communication issues between that he perceived to be done purposely on the
supervisor s part.
The worker also complained of being issued with numerous warnings, and that his supervisor
persistently put pressure on him to return to his original issues. Dr Ewer noted that the worker felt
that his supervisor gave him difficult duties to try to get him to resign. He perceived this treatment
as unfair and unwarranted and he believed that he was given the warnings because he had made a

Who Is Rick Blaine In Casablanca
Screening Report of Casablanca In Michael Curtiz s film, Casablanca , the character Richard
Blaine has an internal conflict that reflects the feelings of the refugees in Cuba. He also exhibits
the power of love. Richard Blaine is a saloon owner in Casablanca. He is very cynical in his
actions. Rick is also very uninterested by anyone of his guests in the saloon. He seems detached
from his surroundings even though he is worshipped by the customers. Rick likes to remain alone
and mysteries and will not have drinks with any companions. His actions and character may stem
from emotional distress from his past. Richard seems as though if he is waiting for someone or
something to return to him in Casablanca. Refugees in Casablanca are waiting for an escape to
America. They are somewhat prisoners of Casablanca. This idea of confinement is shown
throughout the film when many people are trading massive amounts of currency or themselves for
passes to Lisbon.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She shows up quite abruptly in the saloon, only to run into Richard. However, she is not alone.
Isla is accompanied by her husband, Victor Laszlo. As the film portrays the meeting of Isla,
Victor, and Richard, you can see that there is in fact tension between Isla and Rick. Richard
appears visibly affected by the meeting. This is a turning point in the film. Richard s longing for
his long lost love has finally came to an end. He now has a chance to see, touch, and interactive
with a past figment of his imagination. This emotional event causes Richard to become heavily
intoxicated to mask the effects Isla has on him. This can be compared to the crime that happens in
Casablanca by the refugees. The refugees are good, honest people; however, they are faced with a
loss of hope, making these refugees act out in to criminal activities to achieve their goals of leaving
communist command. Humans, when faced with physical or emotional distress, will always try to
ease the

Sumerians, Egyptians, and Chinese Contributions
Did you know that Sumerians developed the world s first form of writing? That many of today s
household objects were invented or used by the ancient Egyptians (lock and keys, combs, scissors,
wigs, makeup, deodorants, toothbrush and toothpaste)? Or that for the last 4,000 years China has
been the oldest continuous civilization on Earth? The Sumerians, Egyptians, and Chinese created
flourishing civilizations filled with many achievements in writing, architecture, and technology that
made lasting contributions to humankind.
Sumer is referred to as the cradle of civilization because there were many important inventions.

Only a small, educated elite had the time to master this system. Despite some changes made
through the years, the fundamental principles of the Chinese system still endures today. As a result,
the legacy of the Chinese system is that people speaking essentially different languages, such as
Mandarin and Cantonese, can read and understand the same text. The Chinese had a very unique
form of architecture. A Chinese structure is based on the principle of balance and symmetry. Office
buildings, residences, temples, and palaces all follow the principle that the main structure is the
axis. Other structures are positioned as two wings on either side to form the main room and the
yard. The distribution of interior space reflects Chinese social and ethical values. China had a very
advanced technology development. Bronze and iron played a major role. Weapons, chariot fittings,
musical instruments, and religious ritual vessels were made from it. One of the most important
contributions China made to humankind was its writing system that united all parts of China.
Other contributions include paper making, printing, gunpowder, and the mariner s compass. Small
inventions like these have made a huge difference in our society today. Ancient civilizations all

Eating Disorders And Excessive Exercise
EATING DISORDERS AND EXCESSIVE EXERCISE IN SPORT 2 Introduction One essential
part of competitive sport is nutrition and exercise. These factors are important because they can
considerably affect an athlete s performance. In the Perfect Body, Andie, an aspiring Olympic
gymnast, engages in a strict diet to fit her sporting norm. Her coach pushes her to lose weight,
and she feels pressured to maintain a small build. In order to reach the professional level, Andie
uses extreme measures such as self induced vomiting, fasting, and excessive exercise to control
her weight. While these methods may seem to improve performance initially, they may be signs
of an eating disorder. Compulsive exercise may also lead to burnout and overuse injuries.
Ultimately, food restrictions and overtraining can damage an athlete s health and performance.
Summary In the Perfect Body, Andie specializes in gymnastics from a very young age. In hopes
of reaching the Olympic level, she works with a leading, professional coach. She is willing do
whatever it takes to reach an elite status. On Andie s first day of training, her coach recommends
that she should lose weight to optimize performance. She fears that if she eats normally she will not
be able to compete at an elite level. Then Andie s teammate introduces her to deliberate bingeing
and purging, damaging methods of weight control. Initially she eats regularly, but soon she starts to
restrict her diet to

Soylent Persuasive Essay
Can you imagine living in a world with no family time around the dining table, no more passing
the salt to add more flavor to the mashed potatoes, nor savoring in the different textures of baked
lasagna, crispy fried shrimp, and creamy broccoli cheddar soup? Neither can I. Now imagine
drinking a glass of flavorless, watered down oatmeal gunk for the rest of your life? Me niether.
But for those who can, Soylent seems to be the perfect choice. Soylent is a nutritional substitute for
solid food. In other words, it is a tasteless, unpalatable smoothie that is compatible for people
who have no time to cook a simple meal. The main reason why products like Soylent are created
is because many people devalue the time spent with their family and don t truly appreciate the
simple pleasures of life like savoring home cooked meals, going out to restaurants with your
friends, or even eatingpopcorn while watching a movie. How have we possibly made a... Show

Soylent is a nutritionally based drink that contains maltodextrin, rice protein and oat flour and
other key vitamins and minerals. Rob Rhinehart, Soylent s chief executive, developed the product
to save time on the average time it typically take to prepare a meal. It replaces the typical meals an
individual eats on a daily basis with a powdered drink that meets all the nutritional requirements
needed for the average adult.
Although some might think Soylent is a good innovation, it has presented some troubles. According
to The Soylent Revolution Will Not Be Pleasurable, Farhad Manjoo states, For a purported
breakthrough with such grand plans for reshaping the food industry, I found Soylent to be a
punishingly boring, joyless product. From the plain white packaging to the purposefully bland,
barely sweet favor to the motel carpet beige hue of the drink itself, everything about Soylent

so that they can write from and in response to those sources. Students should learn to interrogate a
text, not only to discern what it is saying but also to understand how and why it proposes what it
does. Students are strongly encouraged to take notes on their reading while they are reading (active
reading), and read the text more than once. It is highly suggested that students purchase the novel
to allow direct annotation in the book (for tips on annotating, click HERE and HERE). Students

The Humane Association At An Animal Shelter

Research Paper
Imagine being a staff member or a volunteer at an animal shelter. Imagine watching day in and day
out as animals passed through your doors, the unmistakeable scent of desolation and grief filling
the room like a tidal wave. Imagine standing in front of the donation jar, counting the measly
offerings, and hoping they added up to at least five dollars. Ravalli County should do more to
encourage adoption of impounded animals, and supply more resources for, the Bitterroot Humane
Association. The BItterroot Humane Association is our local pound that takes in lost, abandoned,
abused, or unwanted companions. They provide pet owners with an outlet should they ever not be
able to take care of their animals. Then, these pets are placed back into loving homes, making
everyone happy. With a limited budget, they have to care for many, many animals. The Bitterroot
Humane Association does not give animals a time limit for being put down. Some shelters in
Missoula, for example, euthanize their residents if they do not find homes soon enough. Many
animals at the kill shelters are very loving and sweet, and deserve a little more time to adjust. At no
kill shelters, such as the Bitterroot Humane Association, they are not put down. Several of the dogs
and cats have been there for a long time, which is definitely hard on them. Finally, the humane
association also helps other animals in

Animal Experimentation And The Human Understanding Of...
Any knowledge obtained, or currently being obtained, through the use of animals is beneficial to
furthering the human understanding of medicine (Greek et al. 15). Throughout history, animal
experimentation has been a key component in understanding the fundamentals of human life. Kay
Peggs argues that virtually every major medical advance of the last century is due, in part, to
research with animals (624). Before recent times, scientists could easily dissect animals strictly for
exploration and curiosity (Greek et al. 15). The knowledge gained from animal experimentation has
helped scientists get desired results without causing direct harm to humans. Without animal
experimentation, medicine and education would be in the dark ages.
In today s times, using animals for medical research and education is a highly controversial issue.
Some believe that it is not justifiable to use animals to serve as human models. They argue that
humans are the best models for human disease and treatment efficacy, not animals. However,
humans cannot be test subjects for the benefit of society without volunteering to participate and
fully understanding the question being researched. This is for all human beings, including
prisoners, the mentally impaired, and unwanted children (Rollin 5). Also, according to the USDA,
the first requirement for a new medical drug or vaccine to be considered for a clinical trial is that
nonhuman animal subjects were used during the development and testing

Minority Candidates Advantages And Disadvantages
To evaluate the question as to whether minority candidates are disadvantaged in campaign funding
support, a dataset constructed of the amount of monetary support for a candidate, candidate
characteristics, and district characteristics, is needed. The difficulty in the data collection effort is
the small number of minority candidates running in any given year in a general election cycle
(Hogan and Thompson 1998). Extending the timeframe across several years would increase the
number of minority candidates in the dataset, yet, one aspect to consider when evaluating the data
is the number of times the same candidate is in the data set, yet accounting for incumbency and
challenger status can help to indicate if certain candidates are driving the funding support levels. At
the federal level, many elected officials come from safe districts where incumbents have the
advantage and are reelected at a high rate.
The data set is also focusing on congressional elections. Focusing on the federal level helps to fit
the research into the larger literature related to minority campaigns and financial support (Theilman
and Wilhite 1989, 1991; Wilhite 1988, Whilhite and Theilman 1989). Focusing on... Show more

The Corruption Of The Puritans In New England In 1639
Deciding that religious freedom is worth the risks, the puritans crossed the sea. Puritans were
reformed protestants and believed that the church of England was still too much like it was before.
They believed the church of was corrupt. They didn t break from the church but sought to reform
it, so they set out for the New World in the 1630. When they arrived in the New Englandarea they
decided to start a new colony. The puritans were very strict and didn t tolerate other religions.
Thomas Hooker was the founder of Connecticut colony and a prominent puritan minister. His most
famous sermon was on May 31, 1638 on Principles of Government. This influenced the
fundamentals of government in 1639. Roger Ludlow wrote most of the fundamentals of government,

Masturbation And Sexual Pleasure During The 19th Century
April Haynes lectured and wrote about masturbation and sexual pleasure in the 19th century. She
covered the history behind the women led reformation of sexual pleasure and desire in women, and
spoke about the anti masturbation movement, which was surprisingly lead by women in the same
era. I found these talks to be very interesting in that they covered a discrepancy between the wonder
of sex, and the female reintroduction to knowledge about their body, and anti masturbation, which
was an ideology enforced by women of that time. An overarching theme in the 19th centurywas the
ideology of passionlessness. This claimed that women were incapable of experiencing sexual
pleasure, and had no sexual desire. It was prevalent throughout the early 19th century, but middle
class reformers shifted this view in the 1830s. Male lecturers used to only give men talks about
their own sexual bodies, but the reform was headed by these lecturers as well. They began to
speak about woman s sexual bodies, emphasizing that women have as much sexual desire as men,
and could achieve orgasmthrough hetrosexual sex. Women from the middle class, and lower middle
class, attended these lectures to gather information on their own bodies. 19th century women did
not know about their own bodies as they did in the past, which attracted women to these lectures, in
an attempt to re obtain this held knowledge. The popularity of these lectures not only caused a
reform against the ideology of passionlessness, but

Why Cats Are Better Than Dogs
Have you ever been bitten by a dog or scratched by a cat? I have before and I would take a scratch
before another dog bite any day. And thats why I m telling you these reason why cats are better
pets than dogs. Many families become interested in a family pet. For a new family with kids an
animal that takes up a lot of time wouldn t be ideal. Dogs are that kind of pet, they take up a lot of
time and need a lot of care. Cats on the other hand are very independent and can do most things on
there own. Cats can be left alone for long periods of time. So for example say you were on vacation
and you can t bring any animals. A cat would be an easy animal to kiss and say goodbye to but a dog
has many responsibilities and can t be left alone. With a dog you... Show more content on

All dogs good or bad have that gross wet dog smell and need baths often. However cats are way
more efficient, they clean themselves. And that helps with many things. LIke how a dog needs
a groomer to cut his hair every 6 months which can get pricey But cats are low cost when it
comes grooming/bathing. Another example is that many cats are bug repellents. Yes bugs are a
cats own chew toy that flies around with no batteries. Cats are a clean, independant animal that
helps with insect problems I would say that cats are a way better animal and pet. We all can
relate when it comes to funny cat videos. Whether they involve cats bouncing off the walls or
just running into them we can easily say that cats are very comical animals even if they don t
know it. A cat is comical but not as destructive as other pets. They are very agile and can easily
regain balance before crashing into your furniture. Finally when it comes to laser pointers and
cats, it is hands down hilarious and best of all with a cat all of this funny attributes is free
entertainment. After a long day we all could use some laughter with a cat you get that and maybe a

The next release in the series was Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. This game takes one back to the 80
s in Liberty City which is modeled after Miami. It is very reminiscent of the 80 s show Miami
Vice. In this game, the main character is a drug dealer who loses his boss shipment of cocaine
and money. He then has to run around the city and beat up jurors, steal cars, kill pimps and
prostitutes for money and run other unsavory missions. The music is catchy, and for someone
who remembers the 80 s well will enjoy walking down memory lane. The big appeal of the game
is its realism. The downfall is the language and the whole premise of the game. As soon as the
disc is in and the game starts, the first line of dialogue contains several curse words and racial
slurs. The game especially maligns the Latino population portraying them as drug dealers and
prostitutes or strippers. It is rated M for mature and not recommended for those under the age of 17
as are all the other Grand Theft Auto games.
The latest big release is Grand Theft Auto: San Andreasand it really escalated all the elements that
seem unsavory from previous games. This installment in the series allows the main character to
change growing fat or skinny, changing hair, clothes, and tattoos, and upgrading the car. There are
rival gangs and the main player can go on drive by shootings. The graphics in this newest

How Does Prufrock Show The Importance Of Time
T. S. Eliot s main purpose for writing The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock is to show the
importance of time. Prufrock, the main character and narrator of the story seems to think he has
plenty of time to sit around and wait forever to ask, whom we assume is someone he likes, an
overwhelming question (page 2524). Prufrock seems to be a big procrastinator, and uses the timehe
should be using to make excuses as to why he shouldn t rush since he has time later. Time for
you and time for me, And time yet for a hundred indecisions, And for a hundred visions and
revisions, Before the taking of a toast and tea (page 2525). In this quote Prufrock seems to stall
his question even more deciding that there is time to be indecisive before taking his toast and
tea. Prufrock s stalling and convincing of himself that there is more time, is exactly what makes
him not have time and grow old. Before we know it, Prufrock is an old man who now wonders
whether or not he should have used his time wisely when he was younger and would it have been
worth it, after all (page 2526). In the end, there is nothing he can do to get back the time he wasted
so he simply walks the beaches wondering whether the mermaids will come sing to him.

Deforestation Of Latin American Forest
Deforestation presents in an abundance of ways, including fires, clear cutting for agriculture,
ranching and development, unsustainable logging for timber, and degradation due to climate
change. The foremost reason of deforestation in Latin America is the requirement for food, fuel,
shelter, and foreign exchange. Year on year, a space of tropical forest
the size of Great Britain is
converted from an area equal to the size of Europe. Ever since 1950, according to the U.N. Food
and Agriculture Organization (FAO), half of the world s forests have disappeared. Latin
America has lost 37 percent of its tropical forests, says the FAO. As more and more of Latin
American forest are degraded, more and more detrimental effects are being seen. Deforestation is
changing a number of resources for tribal groups, altering their way of life, temperatures are
increasing at a dangerous rate because of a buildup of carbon dioxidein the atmosphere, habitats and
species such as plants and wildlife are being annexed due to the destructive effects of deforestation.
Deforestation is inarguably helpful to supplying money to countries that sell the products from the
forest, but huge wealth being generated from the forests comes with large scale environmental and
social costs. The local residences are not benefitting and the funds are being siphoned out of the
region.

The Goal of the United States Criminal Justice System
Within the United States Criminal Justice System, it is not only goal to simply punish those who
break the law, but to also reduce the level of criminal activity. In order to fulfill this important
aspect of the Criminal Justice System, offenders must be rehabilitated and motivated to refrain from
engaging in further criminal activity so that they do not return to prison. Since the early 1990 s, our
country s crimerate has been declining. Studies such as the Pew Safety Performance Project point

The Great Gatsby Narrator Analysis
A narrator is a character who recounts the events of a novel. These characters narrate the novel in
their point of view and how they perceive the events that occur. Their narration may be unreliable
due to bias and dishonesty. F. Scott Fitzgerald s, The Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway, a first person
narrator, tells the story through his point of view and interprets the events and characters in the
novel. Nick is an unreliable narratorbecause he is biased on his interpretations of the characters and
the events that occur, like Gatsby s death. For example, he speaks negatively of Tom throughout
the novel, and speaks highly of Gatsby due to their relationship. Nick s interpretation of Gatsby s
death is seen as unreliable because Nick s morals change, and he focuses the event on himself.
Nick s interpretations of the characters in the novel are biased due to the relationships he has
with them. Nick describes himself as one of the few honest people that [he has] ever known
(Fitzgerald 59). Nick desperately tries to prove that he is reliable and trustworthy, showing that
he is insecure. Early in the book, Nick shares the piece of advice that his father gave to him
when he was younger. He says, Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone . . . just remember that
all the people in this world haven t had the advantages that you ve had . . . I m inclined to reserve
all judgments (1). Nick s desire to be an authentic narrator, compels people to trust him and his side
of the story.

The Diagnostic Statistical Manual For Mental Health
The Diagnostic Statistical Manual is an extremely important asset to the mental health field. The
DSM was created to assist clinicians in diagnosing and recognizing mental illness in their clients.
It has been used for over six decades and there are a total of five editions. Each edition has some
updated and new information that wasn t included in the last edition. The reason for the changes in
the DSM is because the mental health field is always evolving. There s new information that s
discovered from research and is implemented into the next DSM. All mental health clinicians have
the common goal of providing treatment to their clients in the best and most effect way possible.
Homosexuality was once labeled a mental illness in the DSM, but in a later edition it was removed
from the DSM. In May 2013, the American Psychiatric Association (APA) published the fifth
edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders(DSM 5). This culminated 12
years of work with the stated goal of enhancing the clinical usefulness of DSM 5 as a guide in the
diagnosis of mental disorders (APA, 2013, p. 5). The latest edition of the DSM is DSM 5 it
represents some of the most current information on clinical psychology. Clinicians all over the
world use the same DSM and that s important for whole host of reasons. Some reason are to ensure
that everyone is getting the best treatment possible and to make sure clinicians are following a

Science Of Space Exploration And Identification Of The Moon
Is there a single person who has not been over the moon? Who has not reached for the moon,
mooned over someone, or promised the moon away? Every once in a blue moon, one might find a
person who has seemingly hung the moon and stars. Yet we know far more about Earth s lunar
companion than just the idioms associated with it. Humans have been observing the moonfor
thousands of years. Scientists have been documenting, discovering, and debating this body for
ages. Centuries of research have catalyzed discussion concerning the Moon s origin, innovative
development of space exploration, and identification of the Moon s features. By addressing and
analyzing scientist s data on these topics lunar formation theories, moon landing missions, and
specific lunar features we may gain further understanding of the history and characteristics of
Earths Moon. Five main theories exist to explain how Earth attained its moon. The first suggests
that the Moon formed somewhere else in the solar system. Then Earth s gravitational pull
disrupted the Moon s original orbit, capturing it and locking it in a new orbital path. While this
theory does explain how the Moon came to revolve around the Earth, it does not give specific
information about its actual formation. Senior writer for Space.com, Mike Wall (2014), points out
a few flaws in this hypothesis, the most serious problem being the geochemical similarity of the
Earth and Moon (Capture, para. 2). If the moon had formed far away from

Role Of Euphemism In Passover Seder By Hannah Stern
Hannah Stern is a young Jewish girl who lives in New Rochelle, New York. Most of her family
that she attends Passover Seder with at her grandparents house was alive during the Holocaust
they were even put in concentration camps. Hannah dreaded going over there because she is
tired of hearing about the past and is uncomfortable listening to her grandpa Will rant about his
experiences in the concentration camp. Through out the book you really understand how hard it
was back the and how Hannah was so brave for taking Rivkas place in being sent to euphemism
for extermination. By the end of the book you can tell how Hannah has changed her perspective
on the past and how it is boring to listen to her grandpa going on in on what happened back then.
The setting starts off in the twenty first century and ends in the twenty first century, but when
Hannah gets from the table to symbolically open the door for the prophet Elijah, she is transported
to Poland in 1942. When Hannah transports to Poland in 1942 she inhabits the life of Chaya

Monumento a la Memoria y la Verdad, San Salvador

Monument:
Monumento a la Memoria y a la Verdad. 6 Dec. 2003. Black Granite. San Salvador, El Salvador.
Sept. 2004.
This monument was created in order to commemorate the civilians lives lost during the
Salvadoran Civil War. The monument was made to resemble the Vietnam Memorial; it is made
of black granite and has in scripted the names of the war victims. However, the monument only
has in scripted the names of 30,000 of the 75,000 war victims. The names are organized in
alphabetical order. It is 85 feet long and 15 feet tall. The monument also has the name of the
massacres that took place during the war such as La Masacre del Izote in which an entire town
was burned down and 10,000 civilians were killed. The project begun in 1994 and it was finished
in 2003. The monument was made to pay the government s moral debt to the population, as stated
by the current president of El Salvador. It is meant to be a symbol of memory and reconciliation.
However, the reconciliation aspect of it can be debatable because it requires the forgiveness for all
the lives that were lost during the war and the horrific circumstances citizens were subject to. The
question whether or not the goal of the monument was met is challenged by forgiving means
forgetting paradox.

Comparing The Creation And The Story Of Genesis And Genesis
In the sacred scripture of both the Bible or the Hebrew Tanakh, the first two chapters of Genesis
consist of both the Creation, and the story of Adam and Eve. Despite one story being ordained to
one and another. Both the Creation, and the story of Adam and Eve can be compared on both their
similarities, the way how both stories can connect, and finally by their differences on connecting
their stories. When the author was writing the first chapter of Genesis, the author emphasized
densely on the creation of the world and how he wanted to show the creation of the humanity. By
stating In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth (Genesis 1:1), later in the chapter,
the statement that was written in Genesis 1:1 would help transit to a new chapter in Genesis 2:4
which is the story of Adam and Eve. As Genesis 2:4 states This is the account of the heavens and
the earth when they were created, when the Lord God made heaven and the earth (Genesis 2:4),
the transition from Genesis 1:1 to Genesis 2:4 showed the similarity on how the chapter started,
by stating how God created the heaven and the earth on the first day, and how in Adam and Eve
the author stated how the world was created by the creator himself as stated from the Bible Study
Tool, None but the Creator himself could give this information, and therefore it is through faith
we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God (Hebrew 11:3, BST). However, in

Why Is Lying Acceptable
Is Lying Acceptable? Getting people to tell the truth can never be easy, but lying can never be as
easy either. Lying will never solve anything, you should always take responsibility for your
consequences. In some cases, lying can be okay, on the other hand lying was never what so ever
justified. Telling the truthwould be better, though more times lying is just easier and causes people
from getting hurt. It can also be hard to get people to face the truth sometimes. Lying can be
acceptable when protecting someone s feelings.
To begin with, lying to keep someone from harm or from hurting their feelings can sometimes be
acceptable. In the AP lpsos, percent of those questioned said it was sometimes OK to lie to avoid
hurting someone s feelings, even though 52 percent said lying, overall, was never justified
(NBCNEWS, 2006). People who say lying is wrong are often in abstract. Very little of people would
admit to thinking it is ok to lie on a resume.
Not to mention, lying can make people not believe you or not trust you as much anymore once
they find out. Every single lie has its cost, (NBCNEWS, 2006). People tell all kinds of lies every
day to protect someone s feelings and most of the times lies are just told in different ways. They ...

This experiment performed the second step in a multistep synthesis. The reaction carried out was
an oxidation of benzoin to benzil using a recyclable copper catalyst, cupric acetate. The cupric
acetate acted as an electron acceptor in a redox type reaction. The benzoin donated an electron to
cupric acetate and formed the Cu+ ion while becoming a benzoin radical cation. The benzoin

Cu2+ and the benzoin radical took place, forming a second Cu+ ion and the benzoin cation lost a
proton to another acetate ion to form the product benzil. The benzoin was oxidize to benzil as well

Similarities And Differences Between Olfo And Orsino
Orsino and Olivia
Orsino and Olivia are worth discussing together, because they have similar personalities. Both claim
to be buffeted by strong emotions, but both ultimately seem to be self indulgent individuals who
enjoy melodrama and self involvement more than anything. When we first meet them, Orsino is
pining away for love of Olivia, while Olivia pines away for her dead brother. They show no interest
in relating to the outside world, preferring to lock themselves up with their sorrows and mope
around their homes.
Viola s arrival begins to break both characters out of their self involved shells, but neither
undergoes a clear cut change. Orsino relates to Viola in a way that he never has to Olivia,
diminishing his self involvement and making him more likable. Yet he persists in his belief that
he is in love with Olivia until the final scene, in spite of the fact that he never once speaks to her
during the course of the play. Olivia, meanwhile, sets aside her grief when Viola (disguised as

Love is generally represented as something sudden and irresistible, something that attacks its
victim from the outside in a fashion similar to a disease. Like a disease, love is extremely
difficult to get rid of or cure. People seem to suffer painfully from it or at least they claim to
suffer. Orsino describes it as an appetite that must be satisfied (I.i.1 3); Olivia calls love a plague
(I.v.265); Viola sighs that [m]y state is desperate for my master s love (II.ii.35). Because love
makes those who suffer from it desperate, it has the potential to result in violence, as in Act V,

the play is only a few delicate steps away from turning into a tragedy a testament to how violent

Divorce And Negative Affectivity
Over the past few decades, divorce has risen dramatically and has impacted many individuals,
including adolescents. Adolescence is a time of change and the addition of divorce in the family
complicates this development, especially in terms of mental health. (N. Civitci, A. Civitci N.C.
Fiyakali, 2009) Following parental divorce, adolescents tend to suffer because of the poor coping
strategies they implement, influencing increased negative affectivity. (Consoli et al., 2013)
Negative affectivity may be defined as emotional distress or a tendency to experience negative
emotions. The purpose of this paper is to examine research surrounding the effects of divorce on
adolescents negative affectivity. Inquiries illustrate a positive correlation between divorce and
negative affectivity, however this association is dependent on familial relationships. (YГЎrnoz

The large population size and business investments presents a personnel and financial hazard to
the city. Kansas City is a major transportation and economic hub that is responsible for millions
of tons of cargo passing in and out annually worth trillions. The city is in the heart of the
Midwest and is vulnerable to tornadoes and snow storms. Man made disasters are also a constant

Currently, the problem of unauthorized immigration divides Congress along political party lines.
Many politicians who are anti immigrant and pro immigrant seek for ways by which they can

immigrants as criminals (Correa Cabrera 2012). This media spectacle serves to exploit the fears of
many Americans who oppose legalization. As a result, many people feel encouraged to contact their
local representatives to stand against the legalization of the unauthorized population.
Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965
First, it is important to present a historical context of unauthorized immigration to understand the
current dilemma. In order to change discriminatory immigration policies, the Immigration and
Nationality Act of 1965 was signed into law. After the 1965 act, immigration from Asia and Latin
America increased dramatically. However, for Latin America countries, the legislation restricted the
number of legal entries into the United States. Since the bill allowed for visas through family
reunification, the number of immigrants from Latin American countries increased, thus exhausting
the available visas. The result of these events created chain migration which caused unauthorized

Dehumanization Of Women In The Handmaids Tale
To dehumanize someone is to strip them of everything that makes them human, all their good
qualities, all their basic rights, everything that can label them an individual. Similarly, in
Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale, the women in the Republic of Gilead are degraded in
such a way that they are stripped of their previous selves. Women in Gilead are outfitted by their
functions, forced to have sex and they, especially handmaids, are used as tools. In The Handmaid
s Tale, Atwood utilizes motifs to further dehumanize the women of Gilead. To begin, the
Republic of Gilead outfits women based on their function to strip them of their individuality. The
process starts by colour coding women into easily identifiable class groups. This is seen when
Offred makes her way to town, narrating the scene and drawing attention to the other women by
saying, There are other women with baskets, some in red, some in the dull green of the Marthas
(Atwood 27). Women in Gilead have been colour coded to be easily identifiable and known under
their respective colours, completely erasing their identities. Furthermore, the colours they wear
identify their sole purposes to society. When Offred first introduces Econowives she notes that
...the striped dresses, red and blue and green... Econowives, they re called. These women are not
divided into functions. They have to do everything... (Atwood 27). The Econowives are the wives
or the poorer men, wearing the medley of all three colours to

Political Philosophy Of Thomas Hobbes
Thomas Hobbes
Thomas Hobbes, a 17th century philosopher who is regarded as one of the forefathers of modern
political philosophy was born on April 5, 1588 in Westport, near Malmesbury, Wiltshire in
England. The unique mind of Thomas Hobbes found profound interest in disciplines like
geometry, physics and math, and studied at Magdalen Hall in Oxford. Hobbes is popularly
known for his masterpiece The Leviathan, his book that was published in the year of 1651 .
Hobbes is well known for being an atheist and for the fruition of what we now know as the social
contract theory which was the method of justifying political principles or arrangements by appeal
to the agreement that would be made among suitably situated rational, free, and equal persons
(Hobbes, 1651). He is infamous for having used the social contract method to arrive at the
astounding conclusion that we ought to submit to the authority of an undivided and unlimited
sovereign power (Hobbes 1651) . Though Hobbes had formed ideologies and applicable viewpoints
on both moral and political philosophy, his conceptualization of moral philosophy has been less
influential than his political philosophy, because the theory was rather ambivalent for the content to
be agreed upon by the general public of the 17th Century. Hobbes had many arguments of why
human beings disobey the law.
One argument that Hobbes uses to illustrate his generalized idea of man is metaphysical: the theory
that only bodies in motion are real and

Ancient Calendars
Accepted systems for the division of time into days, months, and years, calendars reflect a human
effort to measure and order extended periods of the future. Scholars divide calendars into three
general categories lunar, solar, and lunisolar depending upon whether their temporal divisions are
principally based upon the movements of the moon or the sun or on a compromise between both.
Regarding Western forms of chronology, in which solar reckoning of time predominates, historians
have studied calendar reform, which encapsulates many scientific advancements and cosmological
debates of the Renaissance and Enlightenment. In their studies of other parts of the world, where ...

Building upon the work of the astronomer Christoph Clavius, whose calculations had produced a
closer approximation of the tropical year, the Gregorian Reform removed centurial leap years,
except for those divisible by 400. While the reform was rapidly accepted throughout Catholic
Europe, Protestant countries were resistant. Over time, new scientific discoveries concerning the
mechanics of the universe were brought to light, causing astronomers, regardless of religious
persuasion, to acknowledge the errors of the old system. Notably, as the work of Sir Isaac Newton
in the seventeenth century effectively annihilated the last remnants of the ancient and flawed
Ptolemaic cosmological model and presented a new vision of the universe, resistance began to
erode. Eventually the German states fell into line by 1699, in large part due to the lobbying efforts
of Newton s contemporary, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. Still, the change was not accepted until
1752 in England, where, tradition has it, the loss of 11 days in the calendar sparked protest the so
called British time riots throughout the

What is happening in this picture? Why?
Artemisia Gentileschi s was one of the skilled painters of Baroque era who created a masterpiece
of Judith Beheading Holofernes which portrays the biblical character, Judith. Judith, who first
seduced Holofernes, then beheaded him with his own sword. She is accompanied by her maid.
Maid seems to hold Holofernes with all her strength. Judith has grasped his hair on the beard with
her left hand and she is beheading him with her right hand. This piece of art looks very violent to
me and blood is all over the white sheets. She took matters into her own hands to keep her
community safe from the constant invasion of the city. Assyrian General was Fascinated with her

Jack The Ripper Research Paper
Jack the Ripper, as he has been named, is one of the most notorious serial killers off all time. He
haunted the streets of Whitechapel, England in 1888 and has continued to do so for many years.
His identity has never been confirmed, although there have been multiple different suspects over
the last 126 years. The Metropolitan police had various possible suspects but one of the most
persistent was a Jewish immigrant. Was a Jewish immigrant simply an easy target for the
Metropolitan police or was Jack the Ripperin fact a Jewish immigrant? To understand why the
Metropolitan police may have targeted this group we must first be familiar with the background
of the killings, have an understanding of the Metropolitan Police, how they functioned and how
they came about attempting to solve the crime. Then, we must look at the Jewish immigrants and
why they may have been targeted as murderers. Jack the Ripper has been accused of murdering
five prostitutes in the East End of London. Each of these killings happened late at night with the
bodies, badly stabbed and mutilated in most cases, found early the next morning. These five
women have since been called the canonical five . There are many cases of people who believe

We Must Learn from the Holocaust
The holocaust is not only humanities darkest hour, but also one of the most educational experiences
that ever occurred. Failure is not something good, but you should always learn from it. This also
applies to the holocaust. The thing we should have known before the holocaust was that before
punishing someone, think of the choice they did or didn t have in the matter. The Germans failed to
do this when they brutally persecuted the jews. The people caught in the middle didn t realize that
the Germans were wrong in their persecution, and the jews actually forgave the children of the
holocaustbecause they were raised to only know one thing and didn t know that they had a choice.
The Germans were wrong in their persecution of the jews for many reasons. They didn t think
about why they were persecuting jews, who sometimes were only persecuted because someone in
their family was a jew. The Germans didn t even think about why they were taking land from other
countries. People believed that Hitler would honor his agreement not to take land from France, but
He said the same thing about Polandsix months ago (page 43). This quote refrences an argument
between Alfons and his mother in the book Parrallell journeys. Alfons was a young kid who was
loyal to hitler while many of his family memebers were not. Alfons believed Hitler s every word,
but his family could see the lies that he said. Alfons was not the only one to have blind leadership

Why Do Asylum Seekers Enter Australia Essay
Ask yourself this, if we were on a plane and it broke down with everyone being stuck on an
island. Would the government not try to find us? To save our lives and bring us back to a better
place where there is food, shelter and an overall better living environment. Then why not look for
asylums seekers out there? An asylum s seekers life here in Australiais another life saved from war,
conflict and other disasters. Asylum seekers should be able to come into Australia through boat
and by any means necessary as something that is an act of humanity and not an act of the law,
rules and regulations. Because they don t have time to wait around and be saved by someone.
We do not get to decide whether or not their life can be here but we do get a say about it! So let s
all make a difference. The main reasons for me bearing this opinion is one of three. For one,
Asylum seekers should be able to enter Australia on a boat because they are trying to get away

Bowling For Columbine Documentary Essay
Documentary reflection
The assignment task for Term two was for a small group of people (three), to create a documentary
and then each person to write a reflection. Before starting this documentary, we studied the history
and development of documentaries. We then looked more into how different documentaries,
Spellbound (objective) and Bowling for Columbine (subjective), how each separate style was
created and made and how each different style affected people.
We ran into conflict when we were choosing what topic for our documentary. We all had many
ideas but most of them we had to rule out because they would not be suitable for Year 5 and 6. The
target audience only left us a few ideas. This is because when we first started off thinking ... Show

We interviewed most of or interviewees in a classroom. The reason why we choose this area is
that because when a student is at school, they are constantly in a classroom. So soon enough
many feel more comfortable in a classroom than other places. We interviewed some grade tens
were their bags are. We assumed they would be more honest if they were interviewed
somewhere that was familiar and in a sense comforting because if they feel comfortable, they
would normally be more truthful. We chose to do a mid shot because when most people are
nervous, they tend to move their feet and we didn t want to show them nervous to be interviewed.
We also used different camera angles to show different people. Some were smaller, so we lowered
the angle and where the camera was positioned.
From watching Bowling for Columbine and Spellbound , we decided to choose a subjective
documentary because we were all more interested in Bowling for Columbine than Spellbound .
When editing we looked at what Bowling for Columbine did with editing things together and things
out to get what our point across more affected.
When working in a group, we found it hard to balance out the roles, but I think we did. I was the
editor and camera person which is a great duo because I imagined what I wanted to do with the
filming and just had to ask

The Lady Reward Summary
Afternoon is about the gentle days of old age, and the author tries to convey the message that we
should enjoy the young and developing times that we have before it s too late. The mood
established by the poem is long and slow, gentle and calm, with actions being described as
comforted or Fragile , and relaxed concepts like peace. This goes on until the last 2 stanzas, where
the author admits their hopes for the days of old age to be further away to enjoy the younger times
longer, hence the main point of the passage.
The Lady s Reward is essentially a guide on how to allure men by faking yourself to be the
perfect woman. The main point Dorothy Parker is trying to make is that this kind of false love
would never make you truly happy. This is shown by the end of the passage, where the elegant
tone of the text shifts to a less formal and rhetorical demeanor, stating If that makes you happy,
kid, you ll be the first it ever did. The parts leading up to that have a regal or feminine tone,
indicated by words such as serene , delicate , gay , and the simile using cherry flowers.
The poem, RГ©sumГ© , is about the inconveniences of suicide, and Dorothy Parker intends to tell
that living is bad, but not nearly as bad as all the ways you could commit suicide, indicated by the
final line of might as well live . The mood established in the poem is pessimistic, indicated by
saying might as well , which shows unwillingness but acceptance of life, a concept that most anyone

Coastal Artillery Research Paper
Coastal Artillery is an anti ship artillery used to defend the coast with heavy sized weapons. In this
essay, you will learn a few facts on the history of Coastal artillery, and weaponry.
From the middle ages to WWII, Coastal artillery was highly important to the U.S. in the defense of
the coast and in naval battles. One of the first uses of coastal artillery was in 1381, but it expanded
in the 16th century, during the Age of Discoveries. In 1794, Coastal artillery was established as a
branch in the army, creating the first system in 1794 and the second system in 1804. Coastal
artillery was organized into 7 regiments, two of which were created in 1898. However, in 1901

and booms, ships, and maybe even planes themselves. All of the armed forces contributed to the
defense of the coast. In WWI, Subs and planes became more useful and important.
Coastal artillery was responsible for the installation and operation of controlled mine fields.
Weapons for discharging missiles, placed along the shore for defense against naval attack. After
WWI, all but 10 regiments were disbanded. In 1922, coastal artillery acquired new 16 inch and 14

Artillery were created in 1922.
It was considered that one shore based gun was equal to three naval guns of the same caliber. Land
based guns also benefited in most cases from additional protection to walls. The larges guns used
by coastal artillery were generally of 16 inch diameter. The 14 inch gun M1907 and its variants

The Sniper Theme Essay
What a cruel thing is war : to separate and destroy families and friends... Robert E. Lee. This quote
relates to The Sniper, because it explains how the sniper killed his brother. It separated and
destroyed his family because he shot his brother. He thought his brother was the enemy even though
he wasn t. The Sniper the short storyby Liam O Flaherty, starts off with the sniper patrolling the
surrounding area he is in. Then he decides to take a smoke and a bullet flies past him. After his
last smoke he gets hit in the right forearm. Then he thinks of a plan to killthe other shooter. He
drops his rifle off the roof making the other shooter think he is dead. The sniper then fires a long
distant shot. The shooter slowly falls to the ground and dies. He then goes and looks into the
dead shooters face and sees his brother. The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty believes that duty and
sadness is always a part of war.

included the theme of duty because in war duty is essential. The soldiers have to do their duty or
else they will not win the war they are fighting. The story shows that war has and will always
have duty involved in it as well as sadness, because people will kill each other even if they know

Roaring Twenties Dbq Analysis
The Roaring Twenties is an epoch typically correlated with prosperity and modernity. The
positive advances of the twenties are concentrated on further than the abundant negative
developments. The improvement of the standard of living of Americans allowed for an easier
life for many, however there were copious adverse social and economic developments that
occurred in the 1920 s, which included the subjugation of African Americans, and the prejudice
set against immigrants. The economic boom of the 1920 s enhanced the everyday life of
Americans. Mass production of goods made prior tasks, such as washing clothes, simple and

  • 2. Aristotle s Influence On Democracy After democracy was introduced in Athens around the 5th century B.C.E., the majority of the Greek intellectual community condemned it as a form of communal tyranny. Socrates was put to trial and executed after a vote by the Athenian citizens because, despite strong evidence negating their arguments, the common people blamed him for corrupting the city s youth. Aristotle would later argue in his writings that the most effective democracyshould include equal power between the rich minority and the poor majority, so the poor could not take advantage of the rich. In other words, Aristotle felt that the poor should have a disproportionately small voice in democracy, perhaps believing that they were fundamentally less capable than the educated bourgeois of making the right decision. After two and a half thousand millennia have past, we d all like to believe we ve perfected this tried and failed egalitarian system. After all, the entirety of the first world operates under political structures that can largely be described as democratic, and there is something intuitively, morally correct about every person having an equal say, right? On November 8th, 2016, when Hilary Clinton defeated Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election, the academic elite screamed their approval. This was progress. This will go down as the iconic victory of tolerance over bigotry, of rational thought over dogmatism, of love over hate. After a historically gruesome campaign, characterized by violence, ... • 3. Analysis Of Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep By 2021, nuclear war has devastated the planet Earth. It has led to the mass extinction of several species and has prompted electric animal development; it has left entire apartment buildings to just one tenant and has encouraged human connection via the Empathy Box; and it has caused humankind such heartache, that scientists have created the Penfield Mood Organ to regulate emotions. Above all else, however, it has led to isolation. The technological advancements that it has inspired have consumed human s attention and pushed them apart. In Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, Philip K. Dick suggests that human dependence on technology has blurred the boundaries between humans and androids; both are in fact cyborgs hybrid[s] of machine and organism (Haraway, 149). By having his human characters describe such technologies as the Empathy Box, the Penfield Mood Organ, and television as extension[s] of [their] bod[ies] and the absence of them as the absence of life, Dick supports post humanist literary critic Katherine Hayles argument that technology...has become so entwined with the production of identity that it can no longer meaningfully be separated from the human subject and implies that technological inventions have replaced personal interactions (Dick, 66 and 5 / Hayles, xiii). Yet the revelation at the end of the novel that the Empathy Box is fraudulent represents technology s fraudulence. Technology only deceivingly replaces personal interactions; it fails to ... • 4. Adjustment Disorder Case Study In her report dated 23 December 2016, Dr Roesler diagnosed the worker with adjustment disorder with depressed mood and secondary insomnia. In support of this diagnosis she referred to the worker s presentation and complaints of trouble sleeping and stress at work that she considered an aggravating factor. Dr Roesler stated that while the symptoms were consistent with the original injury, the pain and disability associated with the back strain was disproportionate. She noted being concerned by influential relatives at the consultations, and that limited English renders a conversation more difficult. As the film portrays the meeting of Isla, Victor, and Richard, you can see that there is in fact tension between Isla and Rick. Richard appears visibly affected by the meeting. This is a turning point in the film. Richard s longing for his long lost love has finally came to an end. He now has a chance to see, touch, and interactive with a past figment of his imagination. This emotional event causes Richard to become heavily intoxicated to mask the effects Isla has on him. This can be compared to the crime that happens in Casablanca by the refugees. The Chinese had a very unique form of architecture. A Chinese structure is based on the principle of balance and symmetry. Office buildings, residences, temples, and palaces all follow the principle that the main structure is the axis. Other structures are positioned as two wings on either side to form the main room and the yard. The distribution of interior space reflects Chinese social and ethical values. China had a very advanced technology development. Bronze and iron played a major role. Weapons, chariot fittings, musical instruments, and religious ritual vessels were made from it. • 8. Eating Disorders And Excessive Exercise EATING DISORDERS AND EXCESSIVE EXERCISE IN SPORT 2 Introduction One essential part of competitive sport is nutrition and exercise. These factors are important because they can considerably affect an athlete s performance. In the Perfect Body, Andie, an aspiring Olympic gymnast, engages in a strict diet to fit her sporting norm. Her coach pushes her to lose weight, and she feels pressured to maintain a small build. In order to reach the professional level, Andie uses extreme measures such as self induced vomiting, fasting, and excessive exercise to control her weight. While these methods may seem to improve performance initially, they may be signs of an eating disorder. Compulsive exercise may also lead to burnout and overuse injuries. Ultimately, food restrictions and overtraining can damage an athlete s health and performance. Summary In the Perfect Body, Andie specializes in gymnastics from a very young age. In hopes of reaching the Olympic level, she works with a leading, professional coach. She is willing do whatever it takes to reach an elite status. On Andie s first day of training, her coach recommends that she should lose weight to optimize performance. She fears that if she eats normally she will not be able to compete at an elite level. Soylent Persuasive Essay Can you imagine living in a world with no family time around the dining table, no more passing the salt to add more flavor to the mashed potatoes, nor savoring in the different textures of baked lasagna, crispy fried shrimp, and creamy broccoli cheddar soup? Neither can I. Now imagine drinking a glass of flavorless, watered down oatmeal gunk for the rest of your life? Me niether. But for those who can, Soylent seems to be the perfect choice. Soylent is a nutritional substitute for solid food. In other words, it is a tasteless, unpalatable smoothie that is compatible for people who have no time to cook a simple meal. The main reason why products like Soylent are created is because many people devalue the time spent with their family and don t truly appreciate the simple pleasures of life like savoring home cooked meals, going out to restaurants with your friends, or even eatingpopcorn while watching a movie. Imagine watching day in and day out as animals passed through your doors, the unmistakeable scent of desolation and grief filling the room like a tidal wave. Imagine standing in front of the donation jar, counting the measly offerings, and hoping they added up to at least five dollars. Ravalli County should do more to encourage adoption of impounded animals, and supply more resources for, the Bitterroot Humane Association. They provide pet owners with an outlet should they ever not be able to take care of their animals. Then, these pets are placed back into loving homes, making everyone happy. With a limited budget, they have to care for many, many animals. The Bitterroot Humane Association does not give animals a time limit for being put down. Some shelters in Missoula, for example, euthanize their residents if they do not find homes soon enough. Many animals at the kill shelters are very loving and sweet, and deserve a little more time to adjust. At no kill shelters, such as the Bitterroot Humane Association, they are not put down. • 12. Animal Experimentation And The Human Understanding Of... Any knowledge obtained, or currently being obtained, through the use of animals is beneficial to furthering the human understanding of medicine (Greek et al. 15). Throughout history, animal experimentation has been a key component in understanding the fundamentals of human life. Kay Peggs argues that virtually every major medical advance of the last century is due, in part, to research with animals (624). Before recent times, scientists could easily dissect animals strictly for exploration and curiosity (Greek et al. 15). The knowledge gained from animal experimentation has helped scientists get desired results without causing direct harm to humans. Without animal experimentation, medicine and education would be in the dark ages. In today s times, using animals for medical research and education is a highly controversial issue. Some believe that it is not justifiable to use animals to serve as human models. They argue that humans are the best models for human disease and treatment efficacy, not animals. However, humans cannot be test subjects for the benefit of society without volunteering to participate and fully understanding the question being researched. This is for all human beings, including prisoners, the mentally impaired, and unwanted children (Rollin 5). Also, according to the USDA, the first requirement for a new medical drug or vaccine to be considered for a clinical trial is that nonhuman animal subjects were used during the development and testing ... • 13. Minority Candidates Advantages And Disadvantages To evaluate the question as to whether minority candidates are disadvantaged in campaign funding support, a dataset constructed of the amount of monetary support for a candidate, candidate characteristics, and district characteristics, is needed. The difficulty in the data collection effort is the small number of minority candidates running in any given year in a general election cycle (Hogan and Thompson 1998). Extending the timeframe across several years would increase the number of minority candidates in the dataset, yet, one aspect to consider when evaluating the data is the number of times the same candidate is in the data set, yet accounting for incumbency and challenger status can help to indicate if certain candidates are driving the funding support levels. At the federal level, many elected officials come from safe districts where incumbents have the advantage and are reelected at a high rate. The data set is also focusing on congressional elections. Focusing on the federal level helps to fit the research into the larger literature related to minority campaigns and financial support (Theilman and Wilhite 1989, 1991; Wilhite 1988, Whilhite and Theilman 1989). • 15. Masturbation And Sexual Pleasure During The 19th Century April Haynes lectured and wrote about masturbation and sexual pleasure in the 19th century. She covered the history behind the women led reformation of sexual pleasure and desire in women, and spoke about the anti masturbation movement, which was surprisingly lead by women in the same era. I found these talks to be very interesting in that they covered a discrepancy between the wonder of sex, and the female reintroduction to knowledge about their body, and anti masturbation, which was an ideology enforced by women of that time. An overarching theme in the 19th centurywas the ideology of passionlessness. This claimed that women were incapable of experiencing sexual pleasure, and had no sexual desire. It was prevalent throughout the early 19th century, but middle class reformers shifted this view in the 1830s. Male lecturers used to only give men talks about their own sexual bodies, but the reform was headed by these lecturers as well. They began to speak about woman s sexual bodies, emphasizing that women have as much sexual desire as men, and could achieve orgasmthrough hetrosexual sex. Women from the middle class, and lower middle class, attended these lectures to gather information on their own bodies. 19th century women did not know about their own bodies as they did in the past, which attracted women to these lectures, in an attempt to re obtain this held knowledge. For a new family with kids an animal that takes up a lot of time wouldn t be ideal. Dogs are that kind of pet, they take up a lot of time and need a lot of care. Cats on the other hand are very independent and can do most things on there own. Cats can be left alone for long periods of time. So for example say you were on vacation and you can t bring any animals. A cat would be an easy animal to kiss and say goodbye to but a dog has many responsibilities and can t be left alone. Another example is that many cats are bug repellents. Yes bugs are a cats own chew toy that flies around with no batteries. Cats are a clean, independant animal that helps with insect problems I would say that cats are a way better animal and pet. We all can relate when it comes to funny cat videos. Whether they involve cats bouncing off the walls or just running into them we can easily say that cats are very comical animals even if they don t know it. A cat is comical but not as destructive as other pets. They are very agile and can easily regain balance before crashing into your furniture. He then has to run around the city and beat up jurors, steal cars, kill pimps and prostitutes for money and run other unsavory missions. The music is catchy, and for someone who remembers the 80 s well will enjoy walking down memory lane. The big appeal of the game is its realism. Time for you and time for me, And time yet for a hundred indecisions, And for a hundred visions and revisions, Before the taking of a toast and tea (page 2525). In this quote Prufrock seems to stall his question even more deciding that there is time to be indecisive before taking his toast and tea. Prufrock s stalling and convincing of himself that there is more time, is exactly what makes him not have time and grow old. Before we know it, Prufrock is an old man who now wonders whether or not he should have used his time wisely when he was younger and would it have been worth it, after all (page 2526). In the end, there is nothing he can do to get back the time he wasted so he simply walks the beaches wondering whether the mermaids will come sing to him. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Deforestation Of Latin American Forest Deforestation presents in an abundance of ways, including fires, clear cutting for agriculture, ranching and development, unsustainable logging for timber, and degradation due to climate change. The foremost reason of deforestation in Latin America is the requirement for food, fuel, shelter, and foreign exchange. Year on year, a space of tropical forest the size of Great Britain is converted from an area equal to the size of Europe. Ever since 1950, according to the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), half of the world s forests have disappeared. Latin America has lost 37 percent of its tropical forests, says the FAO. As more and more of Latin American forest are degraded, more and more detrimental effects are being seen. Deforestation is changing a number of resources for tribal groups, altering their way of life, temperatures are increasing at a dangerous rate because of a buildup of carbon dioxidein the atmosphere, habitats and species such as plants and wildlife are being annexed due to the destructive effects of deforestation. Deforestation is inarguably helpful to supplying money to countries that sell the products from the forest, but huge wealth being generated from the forests comes with large scale environmental and social costs. The local residences are not benefitting and the funds are being siphoned out of the region. These characters narrate the novel in their point of view and how they perceive the events that occur. Their narration may be unreliable due to bias and dishonesty. F. Scott Fitzgerald s, The Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway, a first person narrator, tells the story through his point of view and interprets the events and characters in the novel. Nick is an unreliable narratorbecause he is biased on his interpretations of the characters and the events that occur, like Gatsby s death. For example, he speaks negatively of Tom throughout the novel, and speaks highly of Gatsby due to their relationship. Nick s interpretation of Gatsby s death is seen as unreliable because Nick s morals change, and he focuses the event on himself. Nick s interpretations of the characters in the novel are biased due to the relationships he has with them. Nick describes himself as one of the few honest people that [he has] ever known (Fitzgerald 59). Nick desperately tries to prove that he is reliable and trustworthy, showing that he is insecure. Early in the book, Nick shares the piece of advice that his father gave to him when he was younger. He says, Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone . . . just remember that all the people in this world haven t had the advantages that you ve had . . . I m inclined to reserve all judgments (1). Who has not reached for the moon, mooned over someone, or promised the moon away? Every once in a blue moon, one might find a person who has seemingly hung the moon and stars. Yet we know far more about Earth s lunar companion than just the idioms associated with it. Humans have been observing the moonfor thousands of years. Scientists have been documenting, discovering, and debating this body for ages. Centuries of research have catalyzed discussion concerning the Moon s origin, innovative development of space exploration, and identification of the Moon s features. By addressing and analyzing scientist s data on these topics lunar formation theories, moon landing missions, and specific lunar features we may gain further understanding of the history and characteristics of Earths Moon. Five main theories exist to explain how Earth attained its moon. The first suggests that the Moon formed somewhere else in the solar system. Then Earth s gravitational pull disrupted the Moon s original orbit, capturing it and locking it in a new orbital path. While this theory does explain how the Moon came to revolve around the Earth, it does not give specific information about its actual formation. Senior writer for Space.com, Mike Wall (2014), points out a few flaws in this hypothesis, the most serious problem being the geochemical similarity of the Earth and Moon (Capture, para. 2). Comparing The Creation And The Story Of Genesis And Genesis In the sacred scripture of both the Bible or the Hebrew Tanakh, the first two chapters of Genesis consist of both the Creation, and the story of Adam and Eve. Despite one story being ordained to one and another. Both the Creation, and the story of Adam and Eve can be compared on both their similarities, the way how both stories can connect, and finally by their differences on connecting their stories. When the author was writing the first chapter of Genesis, the author emphasized densely on the creation of the world and how he wanted to show the creation of the humanity. By stating In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth (Genesis 1:1), later in the chapter, the statement that was written in Genesis 1:1 would help transit to a new chapter in Genesis 2:4 which is the story of Adam and Eve. As Genesis 2:4 states This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the Lord God made heaven and the earth (Genesis 2:4), the transition from Genesis 1:1 to Genesis 2:4 showed the similarity on how the chapter started, by stating how God created the heaven and the earth on the first day, and how in Adam and Eve the author stated how the world was created by the creator himself as stated from the Bible Study Tool, None but the Creator himself could give this information, and therefore it is through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God (Hebrew 11:3, BST). Kansas City is a major transportation and economic hub that is responsible for millions of tons of cargo passing in and out annually worth trillions. The city is in the heart of the Midwest and is vulnerable to tornadoes and snow storms. Man made disasters are also a constant hazard due to the sports teams that attract tens of thousands of visitors. The Kansas City government identifies possible risks and hazards they face by conducting a THIRA. The last publicly available THIRA was from the year 2012 and was conducted by the Mid America Regional Council on Homeland Security. The THIRA: lists a total of eight natural and man made disasters that the city believes is possible, identifies goals and objectives in combating these threats, and indicates timelines for completing the goals. The eight scenarios listed are: tornado, severe winter weather, HAZMAT release, IED/armed terrorist attack, cybersecurity, emerging infectious disease, anthrax, and waterway bridges (KC, p. 1). The commonality shared between the disasters that the city has identified is that they could potentially affect a large percentage of the population. • 43. Unauthorized Immigration Currently, the problem of unauthorized immigration divides Congress along political party lines. Many politicians who are anti immigrant and pro immigrant seek for ways by which they can impact their political base. As research shows, politicians and anti immigrant groups take advantage of the mass media in order to persuade their constituency. The media uses quantitative data analysis of the unauthorized population to create a media spectacle, by the portrayal of unauthorized immigrants as criminals (Correa Cabrera 2012). This media spectacle serves to exploit the fears of many Americans who oppose legalization. As a result, many people feel encouraged to contact their local representatives to stand against the legalization of the unauthorized population. Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 First, it is important to present a historical context of unauthorized immigration to understand the current dilemma. In order to change discriminatory immigration policies, the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 was signed into law. After the 1965 act, immigration from Asia and Latin America increased dramatically. However, for Latin America countries, the legislation restricted the number of legal entries into the United States. Since the bill allowed for visas through family reunification, the number of immigrants from Latin American countries increased, thus exhausting the available visas. • 44. Dehumanization Of Women In The Handmaids Tale To dehumanize someone is to strip them of everything that makes them human, all their good qualities, all their basic rights, everything that can label them an individual. Similarly, in Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale, the women in the Republic of Gilead are degraded in such a way that they are stripped of their previous selves. Women in Gilead are outfitted by their functions, forced to have sex and they, especially handmaids, are used as tools. In The Handmaid s Tale, Atwood utilizes motifs to further dehumanize the women of Gilead. To begin, the Republic of Gilead outfits women based on their function to strip them of their individuality. The process starts by colour coding women into easily identifiable class groups. This is seen when Offred makes her way to town, narrating the scene and drawing attention to the other women by saying, There are other women with baskets, some in red, some in the dull green of the Marthas (Atwood 27). Women in Gilead have been colour coded to be easily identifiable and known under their respective colours, completely erasing their identities. Furthermore, the colours they wear identify their sole purposes to society. When Offred first introduces Econowives she notes that ...the striped dresses, red and blue and green... Econowives, they re called. These women are not divided into functions. They have to do everything... (Atwood 27). • 45. Political Philosophy Of Thomas Hobbes Thomas Hobbes Thomas Hobbes, a 17th century philosopher who is regarded as one of the forefathers of modern political philosophy was born on April 5, 1588 in Westport, near Malmesbury, Wiltshire in England. The unique mind of Thomas Hobbes found profound interest in disciplines like geometry, physics and math, and studied at Magdalen Hall in Oxford. Hobbes is popularly known for his masterpiece The Leviathan, his book that was published in the year of 1651 . Hobbes is well known for being an atheist and for the fruition of what we now know as the social contract theory which was the method of justifying political principles or arrangements by appeal to the agreement that would be made among suitably situated rational, free, and equal persons (Hobbes, 1651). He is infamous for having used the social contract method to arrive at the astounding conclusion that we ought to submit to the authority of an undivided and unlimited sovereign power (Hobbes 1651) . Though Hobbes had formed ideologies and applicable viewpoints on both moral and political philosophy, his conceptualization of moral philosophy has been less influential than his political philosophy, because the theory was rather ambivalent for the content to be agreed upon by the general public of the 17th Century. Hobbes had many arguments of why human beings disobey the law. One argument that Hobbes uses to illustrate his generalized idea of man is metaphysical: the theory that only bodies in motion are real and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Failure is not something good, but you should always learn from it. This also applies to the holocaust. The thing we should have known before the holocaust was that before punishing someone, think of the choice they did or didn t have in the matter. The Germans failed to do this when they brutally persecuted the jews. The people caught in the middle didn t realize that the Germans were wrong in their persecution, and the jews actually forgave the children of the holocaustbecause they were raised to only know one thing and didn t know that they had a choice. The Germans were wrong in their persecution of the jews for many reasons. They didn t think about why they were persecuting jews, who sometimes were only persecuted because someone in their family was a jew. The Germans didn t even think about why they were taking land from other countries. • 53. The Lady Reward Summary Afternoon is about the gentle days of old age, and the author tries to convey the message that we should enjoy the young and developing times that we have before it s too late. The mood established by the poem is long and slow, gentle and calm, with actions being described as comforted or Fragile , and relaxed concepts like peace. This goes on until the last 2 stanzas, where the author admits their hopes for the days of old age to be further away to enjoy the younger times longer, hence the main point of the passage. The Lady s Reward is essentially a guide on how to allure men by faking yourself to be the perfect woman. The main point Dorothy Parker is trying to make is that this kind of false love would never make you truly happy. This is shown by the end of the passage, where the elegant tone of the text shifts to a less formal and rhetorical demeanor, stating If that makes you happy, kid, you ll be the first it ever did. The parts leading up to that have a regal or feminine tone, indicated by words such as serene , delicate , gay , and the simile using cherry flowers. The poem, RГ©sumГ© , is about the inconveniences of suicide, and Dorothy Parker intends to tell that living is bad, but not nearly as bad as all the ways you could commit suicide, indicated by the final line of might as well live . The mood established in the poem is pessimistic, indicated by saying might as well , which shows unwillingness but acceptance of life, a concept that most anyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
