Example Of A Argumentative Essay
Writing an essay on the topic "Example Of A Argumentative Essay" can present a unique
challenge. Firstly, one must navigate the delicate balance between providing a clear example
while also delving into the intricacies of argumentation. Crafting a compelling argumentative
essay requires thorough research, critical analysis, and the ability to articulate ideas persuasively.
Choosing a suitable example that effectively illustrates the structure, tone, and content of an
argumentative essay is crucial. It requires sifting through various sources to find a topic that is
both relevant and engaging to the audience. Additionally, one must ensure that the chosen
example encompasses the essential elements of argumentation, such as a clear thesis statement,
well-supported claims, counterarguments, and a strong conclusion.
Moreover, writing an essay on this topic demands a deep understanding of argumentative
techniques and rhetorical strategies. It involves analyzing how evidence is presented, evaluating
the strength of arguments, and anticipating potential objections from the opposing viewpoint.
Crafting a cohesive and persuasive essay requires careful planning, drafting, and revision to
refine the argument and strengthen the overall structure.
However, despite the challenges, mastering the art of writing argumentative essays can be
immensely rewarding. It sharpens critical thinking skills, enhances communication abilities, and
equips individuals to engage in meaningful discourse on complex issues. Ultimately, a well-
written argumentative essay serves as a powerful tool for advocating ideas, influencing opinions,
and fostering intellectual growth.

Analysis of Sherman Alexie s The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven and
Smoke Signals
Sherman Alexie based on some short stories included in his book, The Lone Ranger
and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, wrote the screenplay for the movie Smoke Signals.
Both the movie and the book portray problems that Indians had to deal with, and how
they dealt with it. The book is far more complex than the movie, showing a wider
variation of characters facing different situations.
In the movie there is Victor, the main character, which tries to be the typical Indian,
or maybe just a typical man. He shows just hate towards his father, who left Victor
and his mother alone and fled to Phoenix. The picture Victor has about his... Show

Even though she said so many good things about his father and about things he
was afraid of, Victor did not want to show any compassion for his father. It is like
the story on Real Boys, Inside the World of Boys: Behind the Mask of Masculinity.
Victor was hiding behind this mask so he would not show his emotions. However,
after the accident, he began to think about his father. He understood that no one could
be perfect and he finally saw that he really loved his father.
The book has many short stories that sometimes are connected with others. The book
focuses mainly on showing the degraded Indian society, where everyone is or will
be an alcoholic. The story ?The Only Traffic Signal on the Reservation Doesn?t Flash
Red Anymore? (Alexie p. 43 53) is an example of how the author depicts alcoholism
in the Indian society. In this story there is a young Indian that could have a nice
future playing basketball. However, he turns out to be just like most of the other
Indians in his reservation. He was committing crimes and then started drinking.
By reading the book, the author showed me was that the only thing left for the
remaining Native Americans is to drink, since everything they once had has
disappeared. Most part of the book is about Indians having bad experiences in life
and facing the loss of their tradition.
The book and the movie are great examples of how a man, or boy, tries to behave like
a man that has no fear, no pain, no

An OnDemand system has one library server and one or more object servers. An
object server can operate on the same server or node as the library server or on a
different server or node than the library server.
OnDemand client programs operate on personal computers running on Windows.
Using the client program, users can construct queries and search for reports, retrieve
documents from OnDemand, view, print, and fax copies or pages of documents, and
attach electronic notes to pages of a document. OnDemand servers manage control
information and index data, store and retrieve documents and resource group files,
and process query requests from OnDemand client programs. The documents can
reside on disk, optical, and tape storage volumes.
When a user submits a query, the client program sends a search request to the
OnDemand library server. The library server returns a list of the documents that
match the query to the user. When the user selects a document for viewing, the client
program retrieves a copy of the document from the object server where the document
is stored, opens a viewing window, and displays the document.
Report and
Comparing Male and Female Mass Indexes
Method:
The experiment was conducted with the informed consent of all of the participants.
These subjects consisted of 34 males and 30 females all of which were in good
health and aged between 18 and 36. Confidentiality was of utmost importance and
respected throughout the entire project. If any potential subjects did not wish to
participate then that was understood and they did not take part. Another means of
safeguarding the privacy of both groups (males and females) was to conduct the
measurements at different times. One session was for males only and another for
only females.
The following measurements were taken body mass (kg), height (m), % body fat, 2nd
digit (index finger)(mm), 4th digit (ring finger)(mm), foot (cm), waist (cm), hip (cm),
BMI and then the differences between 2nd and 4th digits, waist to hip and height to
foot sizes.
The body mass was taken using analogue scales, the height using a stadiometer, %
body fat using bio electrical impedance analysis monitor (with damp hands), 2nd and
4th digit (on the right hand) and foot (right foot) size using an accurate ruler and
finally the hip using a tape measure.
After the process had taken place of gathering all the required measurements we then
carried out a statistical analysis which included the mean averages, the standard
deviation and finally the t test using the primary data we had gathered. The software
used was OpenOffice.org Calculator, this software is very similar to that of Microsoft
Excel.

The Apprenticeship Of Duddy Kravitz
Mordecai Richler s The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz
Cunning though he is, Duddy Kravitz fails to learn the tricks of his trade and,
consequently, fails to become a whole person. In Mordecai Richler s The
Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, Duddy s peers succumb to his antics, thereby
becoming deficient as Duddy s teachers. Duddy s amoral business associates are
masters of ruthlessness and deceit, and his family members are enfeebled by the
society they live in. Trained at the hands of these cripples, Duddy Kravitz is unable to
complete his apprenticeship.

With strength gained from the weakness of his peers, Duddy learns to cheat stamp

After Duddy graduates from school, he is lead further astray by his peers in his

him to be ruthless by playing pranks on the young boy. Irwin, without much
conscience himself, not only makes life miserable for Duddy, but also enlists his
girlfriend Linda to cheat Duddy at his roulette game. Losing his entire summer
savings, Duddy realizes the truth about Linda and says to her, I thought you went

Uncle Benjy s dress factory, ThГ©rГЁse encourages Duddy to follow AdГЁle into

Observing the descriptive statistics of evaluation criteria shows that there is a huge
range within the cost, technical proposal, and safety. Technical proposal has a
dominant role in BV procurement in DBB projects. Cost comes up with the third
rank same as interview with the maximum of 40%. The reason is that all of the
collected projects procured with BV. Technical proposal and PPI gain the first
(48%) and second rank (45%), respectively despite the fact that collected projects
were delivered with DBB. In order to give statistical responses to the research
questions as well as test the hypotheses, the descriptive analysis and inferential tests
were demonstrated with the IBM SPSS 24.0 software package. Pearson s correlation
test was used to examine the relationship among the bid cost and other evaluation
criteria with satisfaction of assumptions that data were normally distributed.

Character Analysis Of Victor Frankenstein
Within this novel, our main character is the scientist Victor Frankenstein. His
curiosity and will to make the dead, well become alive, is what drives him to want
to succeed. His never ending curiosity of the fundamentals of the human body has
kept him pushing further, even losing sleep and his health decline. He strives to feed
that will, and when he does in fact succeed, he is astonished at to what he has created,
but appalled by its looks and inhuman demeanor.
Within the novel, in chapter 5, he is able to create and succeed at his lifelong dream.
In doing so, he is already regretting what he has done by the end. He create
something that went against what man was made for. He brought the dead and gave
it a life. In his eyes, wasting time on creating a monstrosity really got to Dr.
Frankenstein, making him distressed, leading him to let it roam free while he rested.
He dreamed of creating something such as the monster, but didn t think far enough to
what would happen after his success. Leading, to his problematic plot throughout the
rest of the book.
His need to create something that others haven t is evident in his journey
throughout his life. He wished to do something that would amaze others, leave him
in the books. His drive for success took over him, leading him to enclose and
distance himself from society in order to complete what he dreamed of. The
completion of his project led to the disruption of his once peaceful lifestyle. The fall

A Research Study On Mentoring Program
Summary Mentoring program have become common place in the social service
community, their general effectiveness has been well evaluated. This research will
provide foundation for the following review of Deep blue lines, focusing on mentor
/mentee relationships, family involvement, their camp element and program
evaluation (DBL). DBL is a mentoring program for at risk youths, run by Police
Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) is a aimed at 13 17 year olds who are at risk of entering
into criminal activities or disengaging from community, education and family. DBL
involves small group mentoring sessions ran by police officers, focusing on
communication, goal setting, making good choices, and positive self image. Another
elementto the program is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The program connects at risk teens with positive mentors, in order to learn to
communicate, set goals, make positive choices and create healthy relationships, in
addition, they participate in a camp where they are challenged to apply the skills they
have acquired (2016). DBL has no official documentation of how it is evaluation thus
it will be evaluated through the framework of comparative literature based on similar
mentoring programs.
There is no statistically information based on DBL to infer if the program is
successful or otherwise. Evaluation of such a program is valuable to assess not only
the success of your program but also, your demographic so you can further tailor your
program to your participants, gain access to funding through suppling evidence of
your results, gain community support by showing the community your results
(Parker and Lamont, 2010). Karcher et al. found that evaluation contributed to
program improvments inclding increased training for mentors, and improved
plasticity to allow for individual needs (2006). This aspect is lacking in DBL and
needs to be introduced to gain valuable information that will assist in the
improvement and success of the program however, there have been other effective
elements of DBL identified.
A factor that has been identified as effective in mentoring programs of at risk teens is
an engaging relationship between mentor and mentee, this is often

Timeliness In The Military
One of the most Important self disciplines the US military stresses is timeliness. In
order to meet hard times and avoid unwanted corrective training, a soldier must
develop a sense of time management. Punishment for failing to meet designated hard
times can range from corrective training, such as writing a paper, or harsher
punishment, such as article 15s, for more serious offenses, like missing movement.
In order to properly manage one s time a system and routine must be devised based
upon expected time requirements, such as the time it takes to get to and from point A
to B, and extra time must be allotted to allow for unexpected time sinks, or obstacles
with a potential for a variance in time consumption, such as construction, or the
security gates when entering post. After deciding upon a... Show more content on

A soldier must employ their sense of time management at all times, as the average
work day consists of many different hard times. The three main hard times that
need to be met on the average work day are as follows; pt formation, 9 o clock
work call, and 1300 return from lunch. In addition to this. in the military being on
time is not enough, and most leadership will consider you to be late if you are not

aim to be early to the 15 minute early soft time, just to provide a safe time cushion in
the event of unexpected delays. This is where the routine must be implemented. My
personal routine demands that I leave my apartment 30 minutes before the 15 minute
early mark, so essentially 45 minutes before the hard time. That 30 minutes is

Reproductive Rights Of Men And Women
One of the most controversial topics being discussed in today s society is the concept
of reproductive rights. According to the Salem Press Encyclopedia, reproductive
rights provide individuals with the freedom to make sexual and reproductive
decisions (Caffrey, 2014). Reproductive rights provide both men and women the
opportunity to seek reproductive healthcare and education. Additionally, these rights
are designed to provide individuals and couples with the opportunity to decide
whether or not they would like to have children throughout their lives. Some services
available to these individuals are the right to birth control and other contraceptive
options, abortion, sexually transmitted disease testing, and much more. Although
reproductive rightsdo aide to include the rights of men and women, this paper will
focus specifically on the reproductive rights of girls and women. Studies show there
is an importance around the idea of girls and women being able to have control of
their own bodies.
Why Are Reproductive Rights Important? In general, reproductive rights are
important to the individual as well as to our society. Reproductive rights are
important because they promote a sense of equality and personal freedom. They
provide individuals with right to a safe, responsible, and satisfying sex life. A key
aspect of reproductive rights is that they allow a person to choose if and when they
are going to have children. They also provide access to education, abortions, STD

Insenstivity Of Humanness In The Stranger By Albert
Camus
In society, behaving in a way that distances oneself from others is viewed as
unacceptable: be it mentally or physically. In the novel, The Stranger, by Albert
Camus, the main character, Meursault, does just that. Throughout the novel,
Meursault creates a problem for himself by emphasizing his individual existence
rather than acknowledging others. The text suggests that the solution to the presented
problem for Meursault is to recognize the subjectivity of others around him: such as
his mother and friends.
Meursault primarily shows his insensitivity toward others at his mother s funeral. At
the funeral, Meursault does not cry or show any signs of mourning the death of his
mother. He is very passive, and he even disregards the feelings of others present. The
text states, The woman kept on crying. It surprised me, because I didn t know who
she was. I wished I didn t have to listen to her anymore (10). This quote demonstrates
Meursault s passivity about the feelings of others. He puts off the feelings of the
woman due to the fact that he has never seen her and he wants her to essentially shut
up. This insensitivity towards others and his own mother s death is eventually used
against him when he is being tried for murder. The fact that Meursault did not cry
during the funeral and that he admittedly smoked in front of his mother s casket
while keeping vigil leads the prosecutor to question Meursault s place in society. As
Meursault sits in the courtroom, in his mind he
Summary Of The End Of Men By Hanna Rosin
Women are Rising In The End of Men?, an article featured in The Atlantic in summer
2010, author Hanna Rosin illustrates the drastic, ascending shifts perceived in modern
society. Rosin poises the theory of how men were traditionally seen as the superior
gender. The author believes there is a contractionary shift in genderroles and that the

are becoming prominent in the workforce, education, and family. Accordingly, she
explains how women are miraculously able to balance work while nurturing their
children. Rosin believes that this occurs because men are not biologically made to
tend children. Additionally, Rosin analyses how men lost 8 million jobs during the
Great Recession (Rosin 306). During that time, women were becoming what made a
majority of the workforce. There were increases in women s presence in what used
to be male dominated fields: school, politics, and business. Rosin questions this
drastic shift concerning women and men s roles in society, stating how they are now
equally competing for jobs. Moreover, the way women behave now show their
commendable abilities in the workforce and how society is changing as they establish
their dominance and authority everyday. Once, women were frowned upon, but
nowadays, more people favor having girls than boys. Today s era is commending
women with their admirable work ethic and self worth. Throughout most of history,

The Benefits Of Books
Publication world is very deceptive and misleading! Those who understand its
inner secrets are more likely to do well, while those rookies who do not understand
may fail miserably. Many authors commit numerous mistakes and blunders, because
of their lack of knowledge about the murky world of publishing. In fact, they
usually focus only on paying up front costs to publish their books at any cost.
Focusing only on upfront costs is dangerous and self inflicting. Simply speaking, you
are the owner of your creation and hence the master of the work because of
intellectual capital invested in the book. In effect, publishers who want to make
money from selling your book should pay you without fail. Obviously, you should
protect your asset (i.e.,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, popular fiction and non fiction writers want to earn money more than any
other thing especially for personal use.
The ground rule for those who want to make money is that they should visualize the
quantum of money they can make from the publishers after selling books. Big and
medium sized publishers usually pay advances and royalties, and they never charge
anything to the author before publication. Other publications, who are smaller may
never offer fat advances to an author; however, they are more likely to pay higher
percentages of royalties to make up for the lack of advances. Publishers are expected
to cover marketing and promotion costs. While bigger houses cover marketing costs
to certain extent, smaller and self publishing companies may not spend anything at
all. Therefore, you should be able to start submitting to bigger publication houses
first before approaching medium and smaller ones. You may need to raise a big red
flag if any publisher asks you money to cover marketing and promotion. The same
case applies to editors too. If they are working under a publisher, you need not pay
any upfront cost to them towards editing services.
However, you may wish to pay when you hire an outside editor who is either a
freelancer or an outsourcing professional. Many publishers use another surreptitious

Manipulation Of Language In George Orwell s Novel 1984
Belief can be manipulated. Only knowledge is dangerous, said Frank Herbert, a
science fiction writer. This quote manifests the idea that beliefs can be molded and
modified, while knowledge tends to be solid and unchangeable. For this reason,
knowledge tends to be more dangerous since a higher authority cannot alter
knowledge. In his novel 1984, George Orwellexplores the concept of manipulating
the mindset of a whole society of people through the manipulation of language. The
Party manipulates language through deletion and modification in order to maintain
their control over the general population, much like the media tends to do today. The
Party constantly orders the modification of past events and the modification of
language itself.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of the Party s constant switching sides in the war and switching news stories to
follow the switch in side, Goldstein s book explains, The alteration of the past is
necessary for two reasons... the Party member, like the proletarian, tolerates present
day conditions partly because he has no standard of comparison... the more
important reason for the readjustment of the past is the need to safeguard the
infallibility of the Party (Orwell 212 213). The Party has been in power long
enough that most citizens cannot remember a time when they were not in power, so
most citizens would never question the authenticity of anything that the Party says.
The Party relies on this brainwashing as their source of power over the people. The
Party demands to appear to be inerrant and as perfect as possible, such as in their
predictions. If in the past they predict something that does not prove to be true, their
prediction must be changed so that they appear to always be right. As an example of
this type of manipulation, Winston recalls, Big Brother... had predicted that the South
Indian front would remain quiet but that a Eurasian offensive would shortly be
launched in North Africa... the Eurasian Higher Command had launched its
offensive in South India and left North Africa alone. It was therefore necessary to
rewrite a paragraph of Big Brother s speech in such a way as to make him predict the
thing that had actually
Bay Area s Generational Movement
Bay Area s Generational Movement
The later half of the Homelander Generation, also known as Generation Y, is
known for having little to no identity. Popular culture says that history repeats itself
and that I belong to a generation where an overall style does not exist. From music
to clothing everyone is desperately trying to reach into the past. The 60s, 70s, and
80s all have defining styles prevalent to that specific decade, for example disco. As a
result to addressing the uniqueness of California and its culture in the 1990s Bay
Area patrons began a move toward rap, hard hitting beats, baggy clothing and defined
dance styles. California was home to the newest cohesive generational movement. It
was home to the development of the Hyphy Movement and the defining aspects of a
craze that in itself was crazy. In areas that include San Francisco, Oakland, Fairfield
and Hayward transformed. The Hyphy Movement demanded acknowledgment of the
Bay Area s diverse and particularly its interesting take on the California Dream.
The Hyphy Movement was a special time in history because it was revolutionizing a
decade. The early 2000s was laced with an influential culture that spread throughout
the Bay Area as something entirely its own. The word hyphy from which the
movement gets its name began as slang for the word hyperactive. Keak da Sneak, an
Oakland based rapper, credits himself for beginning the terminology. Famous artists
from the Hyphy Movement also include Mac Dre, E 40, The
The s Guitar Hero Series And King s Candy Crush Saga
Games, in one form or another, have existed for almost as long as the human race
and despite the fact that they are often reduced to being something for children they
are in fact quite complex. When analysing games one must look at why they are
engaging what keeps us playing and how they foster participation in the average user.
By comparing and contrasting the characteristics of Activision s Guitar Heroseries
and King s Candy Crush Saga, it will become apparent that the former is more
engaging while the latter is more effective in fostering participation in players.
Before one can begin to analyse games in terms of their engagement and participation
qualities, a definition of what a game is and the characteristics that make them
effective must be established. Koster defines games by saying they are, iconic
depictions of patterns in the world...games are puzzles to solve (2004, p. 34),
indicating that games are simply non threatening representations of reality
designed to teach the player skills that they will first have to discover for
themselves. According to Koster the skills games intend to teach are often, things
that we can absorb into the unconscious as opposed to things designed to be tackled
by the conscious, logical mind (2004, P. 76) which is something that can be seen in
both Guitar Hero and Candy Crush. On the surface, Guitar Hero is a game about
being a rock star and playing music, but the way the game is played aims to improve

Comparing Synoptic Gospels And The Gospel Of John
Based on the vast difference between the Synoptic Gospels and the Gospel of John,
most scholars believe that John s vision of Jesus does not come from the accepted
Gospels, as John rarely even alludes to those writings. Geographically speaking, the
Gospel of John highlighted Jesus time in Jerusalem, while the Synoptic Gospels were
more focused on his time in Galilee. The Synoptic Gospels also indicate that Jesus
had a one year ministry with one visit to Jerusalem. John, however, suggests that it
was a three year ministry and Jesus visited Jerusalem three times during the season
of Passover. Other differences are that John excludes large amounts of material that
are found in the Synoptic Gospels, but also includes material not found in the
Synoptic Gospels (Harris, 2004). While Matthew and Mark disclose that Jesus never
taught without the use of parables, John does not share any parables or aphorisms in
his text. But, instead discloses long dialogues and philosophical speeches which
Jesus own character was the topic of discussion. John only records one new
commandment from Jesus, which is to love one another, while the Synoptic Gospels
speak of many ethical directives.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather than focusing on the biological birth, the Gospel of John encourages readers to
seek a second birth from above and allow Jesus to live in them and them in him,
just as he is in the Father (Myers, 2014). John was able to see Jesus as the eternal
Word, who became human and made his home among us (Publishers, 2011). His
purpose was to focus on Jesus being the Son of God, and not so much the son of
Mary. Perhaps it was for this reason that John did not find the birth of Jesus relevant
to the true purpose of
Chesapeake Colonies Dbq Essay
By the 1700 s, New England, the Chesapeake region and the Southern Colonies
developed into three distinct societies, despite coming from the same mother country,
England. The regions of Colonial America each had a distinctive culture and
economy entirely different from the other regions. Religion and religious tolerance
was completely different in each region, running from being free to complete
persecution. Ethnicity and racial composition ranged from almost complete British
descent to a wide range of composition. Each region was politically and economically
structured different and had its own identity. Each developed differently based on
immigration trends, geography and other features. Throughout the colonization of

These colonists were motivated by greed and saw a better opportunity to become
rich. Therefore the settlers came over from England. A Virginia ship list in 1625
reports the number of people to be transported to Virginia (Doc C). In comparison
to New England, there were very few women or families. Most of the people were
men of about 20 30 years of age. The ratios and ages suggest that these people were
looking to make money over starting families. The Chesapeake colonies were
mostly funded by England. The Governor of Virginia, William Berkeley, asked the
King of England to help out (Doc G). These colonies maintained fairly close
relations with England. They considered themselves part of and under England, and
still owed allegiance to England. The Chesapeake region had a colonial assembly.
These were mostly local people of the colony. There was also a governor who was
appointed by the King of England. The local people of the colony the colonial
assembly and the English appointed governor shared political power over the
region. The House of Burgesses was established in 1619 and was the first
representative government in the New World. Similar to the Chesapeake region, the
Southern colonies were founded by the upper class and gentry of England. The
reason for this was that there were vast areas of land available that were valuable for
farming. The Carolinas were
Key Performance Indicators ( Kpis )
As you know, in our current business environment, most companies have finite
resources and budget but they share a common objective which is to do more with
less and stay nimble . Extracting key insight from business data is crucial for
management to formulate strategy to drive improvement in our organization to
counter competition as the industry evolves. In addition, having the information at
the right time to departments and individuals will motivate the employees to act on
this information in relation to corporate or departmental goals. Due to the recent
trend in visualization and advanced technology in dashboard, corporations are
increasingly captivated with dashboards due to their vast ability to allow the users
visualize data in an interactive and engaging manner. The ability to use key analytics
and technology to manage performance through the use of key performance
indicators (KPIs) provides great benefits to companies and corporations. Companies
may use KPIs to set targets, identify trends, determine potential issues and
opportunities, and plan future activities to help increase performance. With that in
mind, I recommend to start an initiative to develop a set of relevant KPIs to better
measure our contract performance. As contract performance is a clear indicator of
the success of our business, we need a mean to measure the effectiveness of this
component in order for us to take action at the right time if we fall short on our
target. I want to propose

Niccolo Machiavelli Essay
Niccolo Machiavelli Around 1513 Niccolo Machiavelli while writing The Prince
would not be considered a theologian. When thinking of Machiavelli many people
confuse him together with the names of rulers who have abused his writings. It also
seems other people confuse Machiavelli with the rapper who took his name. Either
way people confuse Machiavelli it seems they fail to look at his true message,
bettering the state and the greater good. Machiavelli may seem evil to some but his
political theory properly applied is optimal for founding a state, establishing and then
maintaining order. Machiavelli being a consequentialist believed actions should be

When thinking of right and wrong would it not be right to save more even though
you have to hurt some? Machiavelli is not against all that is good. Machiavelli,
although thought to be, is not against religion. Machiavelli believes religion is a
great unifier. A fact many have overlooked in his philosophy. Also it seems there is
a hint of belief or acknowledgement in God in his passage Although one should not
reason about Moses, since he merely executed what God Commanded, yet he must
be praised for the grace that made him worthy of speaking with God. But let us
consider Cyrus and the others who acquired great kingdoms: they were all
praiseworthy, and their actions and institutions, when examined, do not seem to
differ from Moses, who had such a mighty teacher. This quote too could be
Machiavelli simply covering his tracks so he does not seem blasphemous and the
punishment that would come with being blasphemous. It is interesting though why
he would even mention Moses when he could have been as easily left out?
Machiavelli believed for a prince to be successful he must found a state that will
not need a prince once he dies. This belief was stretched over The Prince and The
Discourses. The question though is how can a prince make himself obsolete or
should he make himself completely obsolete? The answer is no he can not make
himself completely obsolete. A Prince should establish a republic but still
Comparing Brazilian Culture To American Culture
Brazil is a country located in the North Eastern and Eastern section of South
America. It is the fourth largest country in the world and fifth most populous,
holding over 200 million people, which also accounts for one third of South America
s entire population. (The World Factbook: Brazil 2018) Because of its huge size,
Brazilreceives millions of tourists each year; which makes it important to
understand how to evaluate Brazilian culture and their way of communication. The
culture of Brazil is one of the most diverse cultures in the world due to its long
history of colonizers and explorers. The first European settlers to arrive in the now
Brazilian area (A Brief History of Brazil, n.d.), were the Portuguese led by Pedro
Cabral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first dimension in Hofstede s cultural dimensions is the power distance. This is
the degree in which people in a particular culture view the unequal distribution of
power as acceptable (McCornack, 2015). Brazil has a much higher belief in power
distance than the United States. In Brazil there is a large power distance, which
means that they believe that each person has a place in the social hierarchy, that
authorities should not be challenged, that hierarchy and inequality are appropriate
and actually benefit the society (Comparing Brazilian Culture to American Culture,
n.d.). This is very different to American culture because America was founded on
challenging the government. Our constitution was made so that we can challenge
our government and keep its power in check, so the government does not abuse its
power. Most Americans also believe that inequality is bad for our country. We have
gone through many periods of inequality in this country and we look back on them
to see what we did wrong and how we can do better now as to not repeat our
mistakes. Another dimension is the uncertainty avoidance, Cultures vary in how
much they tolerate and accept unpredictability (McCornack, 2015). Brazil has a
high uncertainty avoidance culture. Cultures like Brazil make rigid rules and set
regulations to try and cut down on uncertainty. This can be seen in their history of
military leaders as leaders of the country. Brazil is a high context society, which
means they put a strong emphasis on how the message is said rather than focusing
on the words used alone. Examples of this include Brazilians will sometimes
exaggerate a point but it will be done in a way that the others know it to be an
exaggeration. Brazil is also a collectivistic culture. This means that Brazilians
emphasize group identity, interpersonal harmony, and the well being
An Assortment of Memories, a Myriad of Histories
American society has traditionally been referred to as a melting pot, welcoming
people of all races, religions, and heritages to enjoy the freedom that only America
could provide. That was not always the case, as incidents such as the internment of
Japanese Americans at Manzanar and the Lewis and Clark journey along the
Columbia River exhibited American racial intolerance and demonstrated the inherent
racism of the Manifest Destiny an ideal upon which this nation was founded. Today,
government agencies such as the National Park Service (NPS) aim to repair the
United Statesnegative reputation by creating national historic sites, which serve as
either a celebration of American historyor an apologetic reminder of events that can
never... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a major reason why the National Park Service essentially contradicts itself
and fails in its goals to create a unified history for all Americans. The treatment of
memory at the Manzanar historical site specifically shows that the way in which the
National Park Service treats historical sites containing foreign heritage will never be
able to create a single, shared history for all Americans. One source of tension
derivative of this project is the grossly generic incorporation of specific stories within
Manzanar in its conversion from purely a site of tragic memory to a site of National
memory. The production of this national memory tends to absorb the meaning of
individual and group histories, especially when that group represents an ethnic
minority (Hayashi 55). This absorption ignores specific stories of Japanese immigrant
experience at the site, creating a universally incorrect generic representation of the
experience and painting an incomplete picture of the events that occurred there. To
paint an incomplete picture of a historical site is to contest the memories of the ethnic
minorities who were there. When asked about this limited representation of Japanese
immigrant history represented at the site, Jerry Rogers, Associate Director of Cultural
Resources for the National Park Service, stated

Ethical Considerations For A Crisis Management Plan
In order for a crisis management plan to be carried out, a crisis management team

Also, another ethical consideration for school counselors would be if the student is
a danger to themselves or another student, then it s important to disclose that
information along with getting their parents involved. The legal considerations
that must be applied when responding to a student crisis is that school counselors
have a duty to protect students when they re going through a crisis. Going back to
the crisis of a student being a danger to another student, school counselors have the
legal duty to protect that other student as well as reporting to the authorities
(Kanel, 2015). It s important that school counselors know how to collaborate
before, during, and after a crisis. Before a crisis, the school counselor can
collaborate with teachers and other school staff members by training them and
coming up with ways on how to help students during a crisis situation. During a
crisis, the school counselor will show other staff members how to comfort students
during their time of need in the crisis situation. After a crisis, the school counselor
will help staff members by showing them how to help students recover from a
crisis as well as providing them resources if they need any more additional help.
The way that collaboration assist in a crisis response is that school counselors and
staff members come together to work as a team help students heal through a crisis
situation (Kelley, 2015). As for a post crisis response, School counselors and staff
members must prepare to come up with a plan along with intervention strategies and
resources in order to help students recover successfully from a crisis situation. There
are many techniques for school counselors to take into consideration that would be
helpful for students who experience a traumatic event such as cognitive behavioral

China is known for their interesting history, traditions, geography, and more. Have
you ever been curious about China s history, traditions, geography, and more? If you
are curious then this is a perfect thing to read!
Let s begin with history in China. In the Prehistoric Times original humans began
activity in the Paleolithic Times, and early culture and society forming. The Xia
Dynasty was the first dynasty made, and was established by Qi (son of Yu the
Great). It was a country made up of different tribes. The Shang Dynasty was
established by the leader Tang, was also ruled by 31 rulers. Then, it became a
society based on slavery. The Zhou Dynasty originated from the Zhou clan. By the
11th Century BC, this clan had become very powerful and had extended
throughout the present Shaanxi and Gansu Provinces. Lasting from the 11th
century BC to 771 BC, the Western Zhou was established by King Wu. This
dynasty included the reigns of 13 emperors and played a very important role in
Chinese history. With the death of King You, the last king of the Western Zhou
Dynasty, the Eastern Zhou Dynasty began. Xuan Jiu, the son of King You,
established the dynasty in 770 BC. The Western Han (206BC 24AD) was regarded
as the first unified and powerful empire in Chinese history. Lasting from 206 BC to
24 AD, it was established by Liu Bang. Regarded as a continuation of the Western
Han (206 BC 24 AD), the Eastern Han (25 AD 220 AD) was established by Liu
How Educational Policies Affect Our Country Essay
Over the past 10 years, there have been significant changes to educational policies in
our country. From No Child Left Behind to Race to the Top, the adoption of Common
Core Standards and high stakes testing, students, teachers, and schools have been
resilient and have adapted to these changes. In addition, Race to the Top also
encourages reform relating to teacher evaluation. States across the country
restructured their teacher evaluation models to align with policy changes to ensure
that their schools would receive federal grant funding (Donaldson Papay, 2015).
Based on the Measure of Effective Teaching Project (MET), funded by the Gates
Foundation, states developed teacher evaluation models that assess teachers using
multiple measures that include student achievement, classroom observations, and
student feedback (Gates Foundation, 2009). Various instruments are being used to
measure student achievement and in turn to evaluate teachers. Value added measures
(VAM), state tests, standardized assessments, and student learning objectives (SLOs)
are examples of ways states are evaluating teachers effectiveness. When looking
specifically at SLOs, there are also variations among states, districts, schools, and
teachers in how SLOs are developed and the types of measures used to evaluate
student progress (CITATION). Measures for student learning objectives may include,
but are not limited to, standardized assessments, state tests, vendor generated
assessments, value added

Thermo catalytic Degradation of Waste Polythene into lubricants using Zeolite
Mr. Amol Vagad Department of Instrumentation Engineering,
MCT s Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology,
Mumbai, India amolvagad@gmail.com ABSTRACT: Waste polythene primarily in
the form of used polythene bags, comprises of most of the plastic pollution caused in
India. Many processes have been developed to combat this issue which includes
pyrolysis and catalytic cracking. This paper states an experiment that was carried out
using catalytic cracking using Zeolite (ZSM 5). The catalyst in presence of heat
helped to break down the polymer molecules. The experiment gave a product which
consisted of 80% grease. The obtained product can be used for various industrial and
domestic applications where lubrication is required. The recyclable nature of the
catalyst makes this process efficient, affordable as well as environment friendly.
KEYWORDS: polythene, pyrolysis, catalytic cracking, Zeolite, grease.
I.INTRODUCTION
Pollution due to waste plastic has been a very largeissue in countries like India and
China in the Asian region. India generates 5.6 million tones of plastic waste
annually. In this large plastic waste there is a large share of the metro cities [4].

Notes On Debt And Debt Essay
6) The Danger of Debt Debt is not a sin, debt is never the real problem, it is only
symptomatic of real problems greed, self indulgence, impatience, fear, poor self
image, lack of self worth, lack of self discipline, and perhaps many others.
7) There are Five Different Kinds of Debt
1.Credit card debt 2. Consumer debt 3. Mortgage debt 4. Investment debt 5.
Business debt The primary economic danger of debt is that compounding work
against you rather than for you. Decide not to go into debt and become debt free.
Biblical Principles of borrowing is waiting on God Timing and not our own.
Dollars spent today take multiple dollars out of the future, but dollars saved puts
dollars back into the future.
We need a financial planner to help make the right move. 1) summarize present
situation 2) establish financial goals 3) increase cash flow margin.
8) Setting Financial Goals
1) Believe in accomplishment
2) Set goals and objectives
3) Personal motivation
4) Spend time with God
5) Take action
9) Avoiding Financial Mistakes What is required on your part are two things; first
trust that God will do his part, and second, take action by making a first step. If we
would comment to God s way things will be better for us, if we give God the
flexibility to do things his way, with his timing and his resources. Common mistake:
A consumptive lifestyle is simply spending more than you can afford, or spending
more than you should, given your other goals and priorities. Common mistake:
The Modern History Of Oil
The modern history of oil can be traced back to the early nineteenth century in
1849. Abraham Gesner, a prominent Canadian geologist, can be seen as one of the
primary founders of Kerosene. Before this invention of kerosene, whale oil was the
primary application for illumination in lamps but it was expensive and gave off a
strong odor. Kerosene provided a cheaper and cleaner burning alternative. Shortly
after his discovery, he founded the Kerosene Gas Light Company and first began by
installing streetlights in Canada. Demand grew substantially and lead to Gesner
relocating to the United States. Even though Gesner never hit it rich from his
discovery, he has been known in history as the Father of the PetroleumIndustry.

Bissel had the crazy idea of drilling for oil. This was seen as irrational at the time,
since mining was the standard. Bissel ended up contracting a man named Edwin
Drake to investigate oil deposits in Pennsylvania. In August of 1859, Drake strikes
oil in Titusville, Pennsylvania. This event goes down as being one of the major
moments in the birth of the petroleum industry and is what initiated the oil boom.
Titusville and the surrounding areas began to fill with oil refineries and wells. The
Titusville population alone increased from 250 to 10,000 in just five years. Ten
years after Drake s discovery, annual domestic output was at 4 million barrels. Oil
became the second most valuable export of the United States during this time.
Because of this large influx, price per barrel shrunk down to 10 cents. This caused
the producers to create the Oil Creek Association, which capped output and enacted
floor pricing to $4 a barrel. By 1970, John D. Rockefeller had officially founded the
Standard Oil Company. This time period for the oil industry was a topic of hot
debate as there were no anti monopoly laws in place at the time. Standard Oil
became the largest oil refiner and Multinational Corporation in the world. Rockefeller
was aware of the competition in the oil industry and proactively began to purchase
many of them. Any company that was purchased and deemed inefficient was shut
down. Rockefeller also began secret negotiations with
Kosciuszko Bridge
Introduction The Kosciuszko bridge, named after the Polish American patriot
Tadeusz Kosciuszko, is the bridge that carries the Brooklyn Queens Expressway
across Newtown Creek, and is situated between Brooklyn and Queens. The current
bridge carries over 160,000 vehicles every day, and it is recognized as being
essential infrastructure for commerce on both a local and regional scale. The bridge
is 75 years old, and has been continually maintained by New York State Department
of Transportation (NYSDOT). In 2014, the state announced that a new bridge would
be built by the frim Skanska Kiewit and ECCO III with the goal of reducing
congestion, improving travel speeds, and improving traffic safety on this stretch of
the BrooklynQueensExpressway. Governor Cuomo provided an initial $555 million,
which is the largest single contract in NYSDOT s history. The following report covers
the project in detail, and will include information on the background, location,
justification, planning and schedule, public scope, environmental impact, and
implications for the project.
Background
Construction on the Kosciuszko Bridge was completed in 1939, prior to the
construction of the Brooklyn Queens Expressway (BQE) and the Long Island
Expressway (LIE). Over the past 75 years, NYSDOT has poured considerable
resources into the maintenance of the bridge, ... Show more content on

The study found that alternatives needed to be considered for rehabilitation; however,
repairing the existing bridge would be difficult as conditions continued to deteriorate.
The study also noted that the local street network would not be able to safely carry
the diverted traffic. The study led to the conclusion that it was time to prepare to
identify and evaluate the potential implications of future solutions to the issue (New

Why I m Considering Becoming a Mechanical Engineer
Essay
Finding out how and why things work and discovering how products are made has
always my passion. I regularly watch engineering and science shows on the
television. From my childhood, I have always been a very curious person who
would not believe just because someone told me, but I had to know the reason
behind it. Science always fascinated me, and I always wondered how we remained
on the ground and never fell off something that is spherical. In school I was more
interested in maths and science rather than History or Arts and this made me choose
Chemistry, maths and physics as my Higher subjects. This has helped me appreciate
how Science has been utilised to improve man s life and make it easier. It is because
of this that I would like to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Apart from my curriculum, I am involved in various extracurricular activities such
as cricket and basketball. I am also involved in chess club helping me to develop
my detail orientation and decision making skill all essential for mechanical
engineering. I also volunteer in my church. I organize and participate in different
activities like drama, carol service and other programs related to my culture like
Onam festival of flowers, this has enabled me to develop my leadership and
organizational skills and to work in an environment that requires patience and
ability to consider ideas of others. During my free times, I read about different
captivating things like brief history of time by Stephen Hawkings and also let my
creative side flow by drawing. It helps me to relax and soothes my mind when I am
stressed. By being involved in games and sport, I am able to build a strong mind
and good concentration which then enables me to be an effective learner. During
holidays and summer vacation I did voluntary work at the British Heart
Foundation, and I currently have a paid job at Morrisons where I enjoy working as
a part of a team. My personal strengths are that I am a keen learner and organized
person because like Benjamin Franklin I believe that if I fail to plan then I am
planning to fail. Above all I am confident that I have made the right choice and that I
am a suitable candidate for
Legal Constraints And Its Effect On The War On Terror
The war on terror, following the events of 9/11, made people acknowledge a new
form of enemy. Terrorisms became the central focus of nations and various actions
were taken to ensure that such a horrendous act never transpires again. However, the
problems associated with these legal constraints has led to many international law
violations. This paper will seek to discuss these legal constraints and its effect on the
war on terror. In order to demonstrate this, the principles of distinction,
proportionality and military necessity will be examined to understand whether the
legal actions of the United States were appropriate and legal. The principles of
distinction, proportionality and military necessity are central to jus in bello (also
known as the laws of war). These three principles are closely interconnected with one
another and are necessary to determine whether a war can be perceived as being
legitimate.
In this paper, the principles of distinction, proportionality and military necessity will
be defined and discussed in relation to the event of 9/11. As well as, the legal
constraints that are associated with the conduct of hostilities under the new
conditions imposed. The term terrorism and terrorist were included following the
events of 9/11, identifying a new type of enemy. Narratives of who the enemy was
changed towards individuals who were or seemed like a Muslim. Muslims were
perceived as the new enemy. This subsequently led to major legal constraints such as
Weather In Moulin Rouge
How does Baz Luhrmann use the weather to portray distress in the protagonists lives
in the films Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge with the help of camera angles?
The manipulation of the weather is a concept that features in both Romeo and Juliet
and Moulin Rouge. In both of these films, it is used to show distress and the death
of one or both of the protagonists. This concept of distress and/or death will be
explored. For the film Romeo and Juliet, sequence will be used where Romeo kills
Tybalt and sequence will be used, where Romeo is banished because of him
murdering Tybalt. For Moulin Rouge, I will be exploring sequence , where Christian
is thrown out of the Moulin Rouge on to the street, as well as the closing sequence, ...

This is similar to sequence of Romeo and Juliet where Romeo is banished from the
town that he once lived in. In both films there is rain in both of these sequences,
showing that Romeo and Christian are now at their lowest points in their lives,
being rejected from places they love and the people who they have grown fond of,
and fallen in love with. In Moulin Rouge Christian is full of sadness and anger from
being thrown out on the streets. The camera angle of Christian in this sequence is
different from that of Romeo in sequence of Romeo and Juliet. We see Christian in
an eye level shot as he lies on the floor in the rain possibly showing, cinematically
that he has hit rock bottom in his life.
In the closing scene of Moulin Rouge we find Satine slowly dying in Christians arms.
The camera angle that Baz Luhrmann decides to use is a birds eye view shot (or in
other words an extreme high angle shot) which shows just how powerless Christian
is in this situation. This shows that Christian s emotions are just of complete and
utter surprise and of course sadness. At the end of this scene we see that it is in fact
snowing, showing and emphasising Satine s words to Christian that she is
Feminist Story Of Disney s The Princess And The Frog
The story of Tiana in the movie The Princess and the Frog is one of Disney s more
progressive princess movies in that it moved away from the typical, cookie cutter
princess story in which the woman needs saving from the handsome and charming
prince. The movie is the story of Tiana, a young, African American woman of low
socioeconomic status, who lives in New Orleans. The movie centers around Tiana s
dream of owning her own restaurant named Tiana s Palace and how she gets to her
happily ever after of owning her restaurant. Though progressive the movie still
contains similar traits to other Disney princess movies. The Princess and the Frog
exhibits traits of Feminist theories throughout Tiana s journey in building her
restaurant while the movie still undermines the oppression of women. Moreover, in
her journey aspects of Karl Marxist s commodity theory arises when Tiana interacts
with other characters in the movie. Marx s commodity theory is a two category
theory; objects become commodities when they have more use than their standard
value. When commodities are traded they can either have exchange or sign
exchange value. Exchange value occurs when monetary value is placed on an
object and is traded and sign exchange value is when a commodity is exchanged
social status is obtained (Tyson 62). As Tiana goes along her adventure to achieve
her goal of buying a building to open her restaurant she, as well as other characters
use their commodities in hopes to gain something in
Kind Project Malawi
Tony collins
Many people in Malawi don t have much money. A lot of families have issues
sending their children to school because of this. The kind fund help families and
schools in Malawi with these issues. Malawi is among the smallest countries in
Africa, and the poorest country in the world. The kind project, sponsored by unicef
and MSNBC, have collaborated to develop and improve the education in Malawi.
This essay will explore how the kind project started, why they chose Malawi and the
impact it has had on the country.

This quote connects to what the kind fund did for the children in malawi. That is
because the kind fund made learning conditions in schools better. Having a better
education can help improve a community. The quote is saying it is a key to having a
better life, and that is true because if people don t have a good education they can t
make their life better.
The kind project has made up to 15,000 dollars for students desks, and 7 million
total. Lawrence O donnell says that donating desks for schools makes it better to
have a school scholarship. People have not been just paying with money but have
donating money online. The kids were overjoyed because now they can have a
better education, but this also makes people who helped out with the kind fund glad.
This is because they were able to make an attempt to make the kids in malawi have a
better life.
The kind project has helped a lot of people in Malawi and helped them learn a lot
faster and better. The KIND fund helped the children because sitting on desks is
better than on the ground. Also because they are on desk in might help them focus
better. Many of kids are a better and smarter person from before. The project also
wants kids to learn more each day too because the kids love the new desks, and other
Country Snapshots--China
Nowadays, China, the emerging market in Asia, contains huge business opportunities.
At the same time, because of the different culture and history, the characteristics of
Chinese society including its source of power, social order, and solidarity, is actually
very different from the West. The big difference is that Chinais a relationship oriented
society. For this reason, how can Westerner adapt the ways of doing business in
China? Here are three recommendations for the entrepreneurs that want to enter the
Chinese market.
пЃ¬Learn The Crucial Concept of Face
The meaning of face in China covers much more aspects than the Western countries.
Face is related to dignity, respect, and also to a person s social status, therefore face is

Dealing your business with key person is important for growing the relationship in
China. Building up good relations with government officials is not always wrong.
This is indeed the key to the success during a short period of time.
пЃ¬Indirect Communication Style
The communication style in China is indirect. For Chinese people, the conversation
is one way to build relationships, while in the West, it is to exchange information
effectively in order to get things done as soon as possible. It is uncommon that the
company gets the business done in the first time (Wang).
Very few Chinese who do business directly cut to the chase; they often talk a few
pleasantries with number of disparate topics at first. An example is asking a
government officer Zhang, How is your son? Do his college things all go well? Even
so someone may think that pleasantries are unnecessary, it is a perfect time to work
on your relationship with others. Do not underestimate this part, you need to fully
prepare before you start conversation with the trivial things seemingly insignificant to
the other party. Take the prior conversation for example, in the first place
How Does Lee Use Injustice In To Kill A Mockingbird
False Justice She ran up to me, arms flailing at her sides. Her face was streaked
with tears. She tripped and tumbled as her six years old feet raced towards me. The
little girl collapsed into my arms, her tears slowing down. She doesn t need to be
asked, for she tells me immediately: They think Donald Trump will hurt me! I glare
at the sneering boys, then look down at her dark, pretty face. Discrimination is a
terrible flaw in American society. Although those who are discriminated against are
victims of bias, a small portion of people learn to see through the lies and
acknowledge the wrong, as presented in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbirdand Maya

Harper Lee is careful with her word choice to create a heavy tone in the verdict
scene: ...Mr.Jem, I ain t ever seen any jury decide in favor of a colored man over a
white man (238). The purpose of this dialogue between Reverend Sykes and Jem is
to foreshadow the wrongful outcome. While Scout is waiting for the verdict, she
thinks to herself I had never seen a packed courtroom so still (238). This line builds
suspense within the scene. The reader can visualize a room full of people holding
their breath. A jury never looks at a defendant it has convicted...none of them looked
at Tom Robinson (240). With this line, the reader knows that the jury has gone
against rightful morals, convicting an innocent man. This line further insinuates the
focal point of the scene: color can dictate your fate, even when you ve done nothing
unlawful. In Still I Rise, Ms.Angelou uses action verbs to set an upfront tone in the
poem. ...shoot me with you words (21). The strong connotation of the word shoot
contrasts with words as words are not meant to be tangible weapons. Lines in the
poem that reflect such a contrast as well are ...cut me with your eyes (22) and ...kill
me with your hatefulness (23). These lines are essential to the overall poem, as they
help the reader understand the extent of which Maya Angelou fights the status quo.
Both authors have a different approach to set up the tone of a scene or poem:
Liberalism And Conservatism Are An Abstract Political...
Liberalism and conservatism are an abstract political ideology that is formed from
evolving list of political attributes (Bruns Gimpel, 2000). While it may be difficult to
create a comprehensive definition, Smith (1990) defined liberalism as individuals
who are reformist, democratic, libertarian, humanitarian, egalitarian, and permissive.
Conservative attributes focus on, small state, minimal regulations, individual freedom
and responsibility, patriotism, and strong law and order (Dommett, 2015). When
measuring trends in a variety of topics, Smith (1990) found that trends dealing with
individualism and equal rights were mostly associated with liberal views, while
trends on the topic of crime was mostly associated with conservatives. Bruns and
Gimpel (2000) noted that Americans identification as either liberal or conservative
was not entirely due to political knowledge, instead, their identification reflects the
individual s actual feelings towards particular groups and topics. Such findings
(Smith, 1990; Bruns Gimpel, 2000; Dommett, 2015) on the topic of crime and
individualism have recently been the subjects of debate throughout the presidential
election. On June 16, 2015, Donald Trump began his Republican National Committee
(GOP) presidential campaign with a speech labeling Mexican immigrants as rapists
and criminals. Throughout the rest of his successful campaign, now president elected,
Trump continued to use such rhetoric towards Hispanics as one of the leading

  • 2. Analysis of Sherman Alexie s The Lone Ranger and Tonto... Analysis of Sherman Alexie s The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven and Smoke Signals Sherman Alexie based on some short stories included in his book, The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, wrote the screenplay for the movie Smoke Signals. Both the movie and the book portray problems that Indians had to deal with, and how they dealt with it. The book is far more complex than the movie, showing a wider variation of characters facing different situations. In the movie there is Victor, the main character, which tries to be the typical Indian, or maybe just a typical man. He shows just hate towards his father, who left Victor and his mother alone and fled to Phoenix. The picture Victor has about his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though she said so many good things about his father and about things he was afraid of, Victor did not want to show any compassion for his father. It is like the story on Real Boys, Inside the World of Boys: Behind the Mask of Masculinity. Victor was hiding behind this mask so he would not show his emotions. However, after the accident, he began to think about his father. He understood that no one could be perfect and he finally saw that he really loved his father. The book has many short stories that sometimes are connected with others. The book focuses mainly on showing the degraded Indian society, where everyone is or will be an alcoholic. The story ?The Only Traffic Signal on the Reservation Doesn?t Flash Red Anymore? (Alexie p. 43 53) is an example of how the author depicts alcoholism in the Indian society. In this story there is a young Indian that could have a nice future playing basketball. However, he turns out to be just like most of the other Indians in his reservation. He was committing crimes and then started drinking. By reading the book, the author showed me was that the only thing left for the remaining Native Americans is to drink, since everything they once had has disappeared. Most part of the book is about Indians having bad experiences in life and facing the loss of their tradition. The book and the movie are great examples of how a man, or boy, tries to behave like a man that has no fear, no pain, no

An object server can operate on the same server or node as the library server or on a different server or node than the library server. OnDemand client programs operate on personal computers running on Windows. Using the client program, users can construct queries and search for reports, retrieve documents from OnDemand, view, print, and fax copies or pages of documents, and attach electronic notes to pages of a document. OnDemand servers manage control information and index data, store and retrieve documents and resource group files, and process query requests from OnDemand client programs. • 5. Comparing Male and Female Mass Indexes Method: The experiment was conducted with the informed consent of all of the participants. These subjects consisted of 34 males and 30 females all of which were in good health and aged between 18 and 36. Confidentiality was of utmost importance and respected throughout the entire project. If any potential subjects did not wish to participate then that was understood and they did not take part. Another means of safeguarding the privacy of both groups (males and females) was to conduct the measurements at different times. One session was for males only and another for only females. The following measurements were taken body mass (kg), height (m), % body fat, 2nd digit (index finger)(mm), 4th digit (ring finger)(mm), foot (cm), waist (cm), hip (cm), BMI and then the differences between 2nd and 4th digits, waist to hip and height to foot sizes. The body mass was taken using analogue scales, the height using a stadiometer, % body fat using bio electrical impedance analysis monitor (with damp hands), 2nd and 4th digit (on the right hand) and foot (right foot) size using an accurate ruler and finally the hip using a tape measure. After the process had taken place of gathering all the required measurements we then carried out a statistical analysis which included the mean averages, the standard deviation and finally the t test using the primary data we had gathered. The software used was OpenOffice.org Calculator, this software is very similar to that of Microsoft Excel.

  • 20. Insenstivity Of Humanness In The Stranger By Albert Camus In society, behaving in a way that distances oneself from others is viewed as unacceptable: be it mentally or physically. In the novel, The Stranger, by Albert Camus, the main character, Meursault, does just that. Throughout the novel, Meursault creates a problem for himself by emphasizing his individual existence rather than acknowledging others. The text suggests that the solution to the presented problem for Meursault is to recognize the subjectivity of others around him: such as his mother and friends. Meursault primarily shows his insensitivity toward others at his mother s funeral. At the funeral, Meursault does not cry or show any signs of mourning the death of his mother. He is very passive, and he even disregards the feelings of others present. The text states, The woman kept on crying. It surprised me, because I didn t know who she was. I wished I didn t have to listen to her anymore (10). This quote demonstrates Meursault s passivity about the feelings of others. He puts off the feelings of the woman due to the fact that he has never seen her and he wants her to essentially shut up. This insensitivity towards others and his own mother s death is eventually used against him when he is being tried for murder. The fact that Meursault did not cry during the funeral and that he admittedly smoked in front of his mother s casket while keeping vigil leads the prosecutor to question Meursault s place in society. As Meursault sits in the courtroom, in his mind he

Rosin poises the theory of how men were traditionally seen as the superior gender. The author believes there is a contractionary shift in genderroles and that the new era is [B]etter suited to women (Rosin 304). Recent studies show that women are becoming prominent in the workforce, education, and family. Accordingly, she explains how women are miraculously able to balance work while nurturing their children. Rosin believes that this occurs because men are not biologically made to tend children. Additionally, Rosin analyses how men lost 8 million jobs during the Great Recession (Rosin 306). During that time, women were becoming what made a majority of the workforce. There were increases in women s presence in what used to be male dominated fields: school, politics, and business. Rosin questions this drastic shift concerning women and men s roles in society, stating how they are now equally competing for jobs. Moreover, the way women behave now show their commendable abilities in the workforce and how society is changing as they establish their dominance and authority everyday. Once, women were frowned upon, but nowadays, more people favor having girls than boys. Today s era is commending women with their admirable work ethic and self worth. The ground rule for those who want to make money is that they should visualize the quantum of money they can make from the publishers after selling books. Other publications, who are smaller may never offer fat advances to an author; however, they are more likely to pay higher percentages of royalties to make up for the lack of advances. This quote manifests the idea that beliefs can be molded and modified, while knowledge tends to be solid and unchangeable. For this reason, knowledge tends to be more dangerous since a higher authority cannot alter knowledge. In his novel 1984, George Orwellexplores the concept of manipulating the mindset of a whole society of people through the manipulation of language. The Party manipulates language through deletion and modification in order to maintain their control over the general population, much like the media tends to do today. Of the Party s constant switching sides in the war and switching news stories to follow the switch in side, Goldstein s book explains, The alteration of the past is necessary for two reasons... the Party member, like the proletarian, tolerates present day conditions partly because he has no standard of comparison... the more important reason for the readjustment of the past is the need to safeguard the infallibility of the Party (Orwell 212 213). The Party has been in power long enough that most citizens cannot remember a time when they were not in power, so most citizens would never question the authenticity of anything that the Party says. The Party relies on this brainwashing as their source of power over the people. The Party demands to appear to be inerrant and as perfect as possible, such as in their predictions. If in the past they predict something that does not prove to be true, their prediction must be changed so that they appear to always be right. By comparing and contrasting the characteristics of Activision s Guitar Heroseries and King s Candy Crush Saga, it will become apparent that the former is more engaging while the latter is more effective in fostering participation in players. Before one can begin to analyse games in terms of their engagement and participation qualities, a definition of what a game is and the characteristics that make them effective must be established. • 29. Comparing Synoptic Gospels And The Gospel Of John Based on the vast difference between the Synoptic Gospels and the Gospel of John, most scholars believe that John s vision of Jesus does not come from the accepted Gospels, as John rarely even alludes to those writings. Geographically speaking, the Gospel of John highlighted Jesus time in Jerusalem, while the Synoptic Gospels were more focused on his time in Galilee. The Synoptic Gospels also indicate that Jesus had a one year ministry with one visit to Jerusalem. John, however, suggests that it was a three year ministry and Jesus visited Jerusalem three times during the season of Passover. Other differences are that John excludes large amounts of material that are found in the Synoptic Gospels, but also includes material not found in the Synoptic Gospels (Harris, 2004). While Matthew and Mark disclose that Jesus never taught without the use of parables, John does not share any parables or aphorisms in his text. But, instead discloses long dialogues and philosophical speeches which Jesus own character was the topic of discussion. John only records one new commandment from Jesus, which is to love one another, while the Synoptic Gospels speak of many ethical directives.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather than focusing on the biological birth, the Gospel of John encourages readers to seek a second birth from above and allow Jesus to live in them and them in him, just as he is in the Father (Myers, 2014). John was able to see Jesus as the eternal Word, who became human and made his home among us (Publishers, 2011). His purpose was to focus on Jesus being the Son of God, and not so much the son of Mary. Perhaps it was for this reason that John did not find the birth of Jesus relevant to the true purpose of

Chesapeake Colonies Dbq Essay By the 1700 s, New England, the Chesapeake region and the Southern Colonies developed into three distinct societies, despite coming from the same mother country, England. The regions of Colonial America each had a distinctive culture and economy entirely different from the other regions. Religion and religious tolerance was completely different in each region, running from being free to complete persecution. Ethnicity and racial composition ranged from almost complete British descent to a wide range of composition. Each region was politically and economically structured different and had its own identity. Each developed differently based on immigration trends, geography and other features. Therefore the settlers came over from England. A Virginia ship list in 1625 reports the number of people to be transported to Virginia (Doc C). In comparison to New England, there were very few women or families. Most of the people were men of about 20 30 years of age. The ratios and ages suggest that these people were looking to make money over starting families. The Chesapeake colonies were mostly funded by England. The Governor of Virginia, William Berkeley, asked the King of England to help out (Doc G). These colonies maintained fairly close relations with England. They considered themselves part of and under England, and still owed allegiance to England. The Chesapeake region had a colonial assembly. These were mostly local people of the colony. There was also a governor who was appointed by the King of England. The local people of the colony the colonial assembly and the English appointed governor shared political power over the region. The House of Burgesses was established in 1619 and was the first representative government in the New World. Similar to the Chesapeake region, the Southern colonies were founded by the upper class and gentry of England. The reason for this was that there were vast areas of land available that were valuable for farming. The Carolinas were

Key Performance Indicators ( Kpis ) As you know, in our current business environment, most companies have finite resources and budget but they share a common objective which is to do more with less and stay nimble . Extracting key insight from business data is crucial for management to formulate strategy to drive improvement in our organization to counter competition as the industry evolves. In addition, having the information at the right time to departments and individuals will motivate the employees to act on this information in relation to corporate or departmental goals. Due to the recent trend in visualization and advanced technology in dashboard, corporations are increasingly captivated with dashboards due to their vast ability to allow the users visualize data in an interactive and engaging manner. The ability to use key analytics and technology to manage performance through the use of key performance indicators (KPIs) provides great benefits to companies and corporations. Companies may use KPIs to set targets, identify trends, determine potential issues and opportunities, and plan future activities to help increase performance. With that in mind, I recommend to start an initiative to develop a set of relevant KPIs to better measure our contract performance. As contract performance is a clear indicator of the success of our business, we need a mean to measure the effectiveness of this component in order for us to take action at the right time if we fall short on our target. When thinking of right and wrong would it not be right to save more even though you have to hurt some? Machiavelli is not against all that is good. Machiavelli, although thought to be, is not against religion. Machiavelli believes religion is a great unifier. A fact many have overlooked in his philosophy. Also it seems there is a hint of belief or acknowledgement in God in his passage Although one should not reason about Moses, since he merely executed what God Commanded, yet he must be praised for the grace that made him worthy of speaking with God. But let us consider Cyrus and the others who acquired great kingdoms: they were all praiseworthy, and their actions and institutions, when examined, do not seem to differ from Moses, who had such a mighty teacher. This quote too could be Machiavelli simply covering his tracks so he does not seem blasphemous and the punishment that would come with being blasphemous. It is interesting though why he would even mention Moses when he could have been as easily left out? Machiavelli believed for a prince to be successful he must found a state that will not need a prince once he dies. This belief was stretched over The Prince and The Discourses. The question though is how can a prince make himself obsolete or should he make himself completely obsolete? The answer is no he can not make himself completely obsolete. The first dimension in Hofstede s cultural dimensions is the power distance. This is the degree in which people in a particular culture view the unequal distribution of power as acceptable (McCornack, 2015). Brazil has a much higher belief in power distance than the United States. In Brazil there is a large power distance, which means that they believe that each person has a place in the social hierarchy, that authorities should not be challenged, that hierarchy and inequality are appropriate and actually benefit the society (Comparing Brazilian Culture to American Culture, n.d.). This is very different to American culture because America was founded on challenging the government. Our constitution was made so that we can challenge our government and keep its power in check, so the government does not abuse its power. Most Americans also believe that inequality is bad for our country. We have gone through many periods of inequality in this country and we look back on them to see what we did wrong and how we can do better now as to not repeat our mistakes. Another dimension is the uncertainty avoidance, Cultures vary in how much they tolerate and accept unpredictability (McCornack, 2015). Brazil has a high uncertainty avoidance culture. Cultures like Brazil make rigid rules and set regulations to try and cut down on uncertainty. This can be seen in their history of military leaders as leaders of the country. Brazil is a high context society, which means they put a strong emphasis on how the message is said rather than focusing on the words used alone. Examples of this include Brazilians will sometimes exaggerate a point but it will be done in a way that the others know it to be an exaggeration. Brazil is also a collectivistic culture. This means that Brazilians emphasize group identity, interpersonal harmony, and the well being

An Assortment of Memories, a Myriad of Histories American society has traditionally been referred to as a melting pot, welcoming people of all races, religions, and heritages to enjoy the freedom that only America could provide. That was not always the case, as incidents such as the internment of Japanese Americans at Manzanar and the Lewis and Clark journey along the Columbia River exhibited American racial intolerance and demonstrated the inherent racism of the Manifest Destiny an ideal upon which this nation was founded. Today, government agencies such as the National Park Service (NPS) aim to repair the United Statesnegative reputation by creating national historic sites, which serve as either a celebration of American historyor an apologetic reminder of events that can never... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a major reason why the National Park Service essentially contradicts itself and fails in its goals to create a unified history for all Americans. The treatment of memory at the Manzanar historical site specifically shows that the way in which the National Park Service treats historical sites containing foreign heritage will never be able to create a single, shared history for all Americans. One source of tension derivative of this project is the grossly generic incorporation of specific stories within Manzanar in its conversion from purely a site of tragic memory to a site of National memory. The production of this national memory tends to absorb the meaning of individual and group histories, especially when that group represents an ethnic minority (Hayashi 55). This absorption ignores specific stories of Japanese immigrant experience at the site, creating a universally incorrect generic representation of the experience and painting an incomplete picture of the events that occurred there. To paint an incomplete picture of a historical site is to contest the memories of the ethnic minorities who were there. When asked about this limited representation of Japanese immigrant history represented at the site, Jerry Rogers, Associate Director of Cultural Resources for the National Park Service, stated

Going back to the crisis of a student being a danger to another student, school counselors have the legal duty to protect that other student as well as reporting to the authorities (Kanel, 2015). It s important that school counselors know how to collaborate before, during, and after a crisis. States across the country restructured their teacher evaluation models to align with policy changes to ensure that their schools would receive federal grant funding (Donaldson Papay, 2015). Based on the Measure of Effective Teaching Project (MET), funded by the Gates Foundation, states developed teacher evaluation models that assess teachers using multiple measures that include student achievement, classroom observations, and student feedback (Gates Foundation, 2009). In both films there is rain in both of these sequences, showing that Romeo and Christian are now at their lowest points in their lives, being rejected from places they love and the people who they have grown fond of, and fallen in love with. In Moulin Rouge Christian is full of sadness and anger from being thrown out on the streets. The camera angle of Christian in this sequence is different from that of Romeo in sequence of Romeo and Juliet. We see Christian in an eye level shot as he lies on the floor in the rain possibly showing, cinematically that he has hit rock bottom in his life. In the closing scene of Moulin Rouge we find Satine slowly dying in Christians arms. The camera angle that Baz Luhrmann decides to use is a birds eye view shot (or in other words an extreme high angle shot) which shows just how powerless Christian is in this situation. This shows that Christian s emotions are just of complete and utter surprise and of course sadness. At the end of this scene we see that it is in fact snowing, showing and emphasising Satine s words to Christian that she is

Feminist Story Of Disney s The Princess And The Frog The story of Tiana in the movie The Princess and the Frog is one of Disney s more progressive princess movies in that it moved away from the typical, cookie cutter princess story in which the woman needs saving from the handsome and charming prince. The movie is the story of Tiana, a young, African American woman of low socioeconomic status, who lives in New Orleans. The movie centers around Tiana s dream of owning her own restaurant named Tiana s Palace and how she gets to her happily ever after of owning her restaurant. Though progressive the movie still contains similar traits to other Disney princess movies. The Princess and the Frog exhibits traits of Feminist theories throughout Tiana s journey in building her restaurant while the movie still undermines the oppression of women. Moreover, in her journey aspects of Karl Marxist s commodity theory arises when Tiana interacts with other characters in the movie. Marx s commodity theory is a two category theory; objects become commodities when they have more use than their standard value. When commodities are traded they can either have exchange or sign exchange value. Exchange value occurs when monetary value is placed on an object and is traded and sign exchange value is when a commodity is exchanged social status is obtained (Tyson 62). As Tiana goes along her adventure to achieve her goal of buying a building to open her restaurant she, as well as other characters use their commodities in hopes to gain something in

Dealing your business with key person is important for growing the relationship in China. Building up good relations with government officials is not always wrong. This is indeed the key to the success during a short period of time. пЃ¬Indirect Communication Style The communication style in China is indirect. For Chinese people, the conversation is one way to build relationships, while in the West, it is to exchange information effectively in order to get things done as soon as possible. It is uncommon that the company gets the business done in the first time (Wang). Very few Chinese who do business directly cut to the chase; they often talk a few pleasantries with number of disparate topics at first. An example is asking a government officer Zhang, How is your son? Do his college things all go well? Even so someone may think that pleasantries are unnecessary, it is a perfect time to work on your relationship with others. Do not underestimate this part, you need to fully prepare before you start conversation with the trivial things seemingly insignificant to the other party. Take the prior conversation for example, in the first place

She tripped and tumbled as her six years old feet raced towards me. The little girl collapsed into my arms, her tears slowing down. She doesn t need to be asked, for she tells me immediately: They think Donald Trump will hurt me! I glare at the sneering boys, then look down at her dark, pretty face. Discrimination is a terrible flaw in American society. Although those who are discriminated against are victims of bias, a small portion of people learn to see through the lies and acknowledge the wrong, as presented in Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbirdand Maya Angelous Still I Rise. Ms. Angelou tackles the issues explicitly, while Scout... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Harper Lee is careful with her word choice to create a heavy tone in the verdict scene: ...Mr.Jem, I ain t ever seen any jury decide in favor of a colored man over a white man (238). The purpose of this dialogue between Reverend Sykes and Jem is to foreshadow the wrongful outcome. While Scout is waiting for the verdict, she thinks to herself I had never seen a packed courtroom so still (238). This line builds suspense within the scene. The reader can visualize a room full of people holding their breath. A jury never looks at a defendant it has convicted...none of them looked at Tom Robinson (240). With this line, the reader knows that the jury has gone against rightful morals, convicting an innocent man. This line further insinuates the focal point of the scene: color can dictate your fate, even when you ve done nothing unlawful. In Still I Rise, Ms.Angelou uses action verbs to set an upfront tone in the poem. ...shoot me with you words (21). The strong connotation of the word shoot contrasts with words as words are not meant to be tangible weapons. Lines in the poem that reflect such a contrast as well are ...cut me with your eyes (22) and ...kill me with your hatefulness (23). These lines are essential to the overall poem, as they help the reader understand the extent of which Maya Angelou fights the status quo. Both authors have a different approach to set up the tone of a scene or poem:
  • 52. Liberalism And Conservatism Are An Abstract Political... Liberalism and conservatism are an abstract political ideology that is formed from evolving list of political attributes (Bruns Gimpel, 2000). While it may be difficult to create a comprehensive definition, Smith (1990) defined liberalism as individuals who are reformist, democratic, libertarian, humanitarian, egalitarian, and permissive. Conservative attributes focus on, small state, minimal regulations, individual freedom and responsibility, patriotism, and strong law and order (Dommett, 2015). When measuring trends in a variety of topics, Smith (1990) found that trends dealing with individualism and equal rights were mostly associated with liberal views, while trends on the topic of crime was mostly associated with conservatives. Bruns and Gimpel (2000) noted that Americans identification as either liberal or conservative was not entirely due to political knowledge, instead, their identification reflects the individual s actual feelings towards particular groups and topics. Such findings (Smith, 1990; Bruns Gimpel, 2000; Dommett, 2015) on the topic of crime and individualism have recently been the subjects of debate throughout the presidential election. On June 16, 2015, Donald Trump began his Republican National Committee (GOP) presidential campaign with a speech labeling Mexican immigrants as rapists and criminals. Throughout the rest of his successful campaign, now president elected, Trump continued to use such rhetoric towards Hispanics as one of the leading
